Zielone dachy, zielone fasady, ogrody deszczowe czy różnego rodzaju niecki retencyjne to są takie rozwiązania, które wprowadzamy zwykle w ściśle zabudowanych terenach miejskich.
Ogrody deszczowe są obecnie bardzo popularne i pojawiają się w coraz większej ilości miast, to de facto grządka, w której pod warstwą darni, w której rosną rośliny, zwykle wsypywany jest żwir czy różnego innego rodzaju kruszywa, które mają więcej przestrzeni pomiędzy kamykami. Dzięki temu w takie miejsce dużo więcej wody jest w stanie przesiąknąć. Ona przechwytuje taką wodę jak gąbka. Rośliny, które sadzone są w ogrodach deszczowych muszą wytrzymać zarówno zalewanie, jak i późniejsze okresy suszy.
