Rok 2024 bude pre Európsku úniu kľúčovým rokom, pretože Európsky parlament čaká nová éra. Voľby budú začiatkom júna – presnejšie od 6. do 9. júna, keď budú občania EÚ čeliť novej výzve: Vybrať si zvolili svojich národných zástupcov na nasledujúcich päť rokov. Odchádzajúci EP riešil nebývalé množstvo výziev. Niektoré sa dali predvídať už na začiatku, ako napríklad potreba zmierniť – teda prispôsobiť sa – klimatickým zmenám. Platí to aj pre a neustále sa zvyšujúcu digitalizácia našich životov, vrátane nášho zložitého vzťahu s umelou inteligenciou. Vyskytli sa však aj neočakávané výzvy: Pandémia COVID-19, následná hospodárska kríza a ruská invázia na Ukrajinu. To všetko vyústilo do výslednej krízy energetickej bezpečnosti, spojenej so záväzkom EÚ podporovať vojnové úsilie Ukrajiny.
