Speaker 1 (00:01):
Go ahead.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
How did how did Jeff Wilson look after what three
years away from the forty nine ers.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Look good today?
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Has a different hair coach, so I didn't recognize him
right away, but got a few carries today and looked like, Jeff,
is that.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
An easy transition for him being in Miami and now
coming back here?
Speaker 4 (00:21):
Can you just kind of pick up? Oh?
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Yeah, I believe so.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
I mean the verbiage is real similar, and a lot
of the styles are runs and are very similar. And
we got a lot of time with Jeff so awesome player,
awesome person and pumped out him back in here.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
Would you like the most when you when you rewatch
the game about your offense?
Speaker 3 (00:40):
I ended, I like to I thought we blocked better
than I anticipated. There's a few that I thought got
away from us from the sidelines, But when I watched
the tape, I was encouraged with some of the young guys.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
I liked how Corey ran. I thought he ran hard.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
We'll keep pushing him to get better as a runner,
but I just love the mentality he ran with.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Those are the things stuck out the most.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Any update on up dissed out.
Speaker 5 (01:00):
I saw him out there on the sideline and then
I'll sold.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
J uh.
Speaker 5 (01:03):
You said that yesterday you guys were gonna evaluate Cali
and Green. How do you do it?
Speaker 3 (01:08):
We were hoping Upton could go today, Uh, it was
feeling too sore, so we're being safe with him. Be
surprised if he goes tomorrow. Hopefully we'll be back by
the Raiders practice. Jake and Ronardo had uh R. Jake
had a real good day to day, hit all his
times and stuff, so he'll get out there tomorrow. Ronardo didn't,
so we'll be safe with him and probably hold him
this week.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
And you said it just sort's came yes, yup, Jordan Watkins.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Uh, Jordan Watkins ended up having a high ankle spring.
It's gonna be out about a month.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Yup. You guys move that.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
No, Yeah, he didn't know. I'm even he didn't feel
it after the game. He was surprised.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
He actually reported some other things came in the next
day saying how I was a little sore, maybe we
should look at it. And we weren't worried about it
til we got an MRI and showed a high ankle.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
So he know it's the date on those, but it
was usually take about a month to me doing more
details on uh more, see the seagul was good? He
was and you checked out fine? Uh he was out
there practice in the day.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Sieg will have a chance to grab that starting spot
a safety.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Yeah, I'd say so.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
I mean, I think there's a lot of open competition
there and I thought he had a real good game
special teams and on defense, So I wanna rule them
out for that.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
Y you m talk with Pete carrolllet or did that
happened later this week?
Speaker 1 (02:27):
We've talked earlier.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
We've done all the our coordinators, We've got all the
practice schedules. But Pete and I will talk probably the
next couple of days.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
Were they in a similar situation to you? I mean,
cause you guys are gonna go with s a lot
of guys that aren't gonna be able to practice. It
looks like, is it he can still get good practice?
Speaker 6 (02:41):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Yeah, I mean it's we're in a similar situation as
we were last year where it gets tough to do
these at this time. But I also fill our or
our our team is in a different situation in just
terms of guys that need this, and we got a
lot more young guys a lot of more new guys,
so I really do wanna get a practice for someone else.
But we'll see how these next couple of days go,
whether we even can do threes. We couldn't do threes today,
(03:02):
couldn't do one on ones today, things like that, So
we've had to cut things out. Hopefully won't have to
cut too many things out vers Vegas. But we'll see
after the next practice. How de Marcus Robinson being these
few weeks, and and is the league giving you any
heads up whether there's an appeal process.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Going on or yeah, there is an appeal process.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
I'm not sure how it's going, so I always just
planning for the worst and hope for the best. But uh,
he's done a good job here. We've really enjoyed him
as a guy. No, one won't be in there most
likely those first few games. He'll play a lot more
in the preseason, but hopefully, well we can shorten that
with an appeal process.
Speaker 6 (03:41):
You know, if.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
One and you haven't, you haven't receivers on the roster.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
I mean, it's kind of been an obvious situation me
for a while. So it's stuff we're working on. It's
stuff we're trying to really put pre showing these younger guys.
So I was really unfortunate for Walkins to get that
step back because really believed he could have helped us early,
but he needed the practice to do it to be
able to help us. So it's a minor setback for him.
He'll get back, hopefully he's back around then. But mostline
(04:14):
to pick up on the practice time and stuff like that,
and kids opportunities for a lot more guys. So all
these guys got opportunities to make our team this year,
opportunities to help us here definitely in week one, but
it's a lot more open than it's ever been before.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
You about Chosen, your your take on Chosen, how he's
been practicing, But then also you know he was here
last season. Did you make the team? Now he's back
taking a step since you guys brought him in elst.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Did he's been or yeah, I believe he's ahead of
where he was last year. He came in towards end
last year for similar situations. We were out a number
of guys last year. And Chosen is a guy who's
got a good resume. He's put some good things on
tape over his career, and he came in and got opportunities,
showed some talent. We ended up offering him in practice squad.
He chose to go to Miami and then the same
(05:01):
opportunities come up this year. We've had some injuries, got
some open competition and we.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Worked him out. He looked good.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
I think he's in better shape than he was last
time he came. I think he's got a better understanding
of the playbook th the last time he's came. And
I think he's got a better opportunity because of our situation,
to have a chance to make this team too.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
But he's got to catch up watch the film.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
Do you have any more to add about your young defensive.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Climate that I was just I was proud of them
because we've been so down on d Lineman that those
six guys were the six guys who got us through
all of practice on Thursday, and then those were the
same six guys interior wise that got us through the
entire game on Saturday, and there we got one back today,
so but we only had the seven guys, so one
(05:44):
fresh guy today. So I've been very proud of those
guys battling a lot of those guys need the reps
it's been good that they're getting all the reps, but
I also like their mentality that they're pushing through it.
I know they're tired, I know they're sore, but on
the clinda making better in the long run.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
We were pretty clear when you wrapped at Berg and
that he makes his team, it's going to be as
return specialists. Has he been any kind of a pleasant
surprise as a receiver?
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Yeah, yes, I mean that's why we brought him here
because of his return ability that he did in college.
But he's got a lot more opportunities going into this
camp being down guys, and you know, we initially expected
and I think he's shown he's ready for it. I mean,
he's been able to catch the ball good, he's learned
the playbook and we've been able to put him in
there and use him as a receiver and that definitely
helps his chances any better.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Idea now, rough idea about Brandon I you's return and
when when he could actually you know, play for you
in a.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
Game this season?
Speaker 1 (06:39):
Not really.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
I don't know what I've said in the past, but
I kind of view all those guys around the same time,
whether it's Mustafa, whether it's Rourk or whether it's Brandon.
They're all at different stages, but where they're at I
always see him around week six, which means that could
be week ten, means a week could be week five.
But that's the area where I start thinking about it,
which is a long ways away. I know it's not
(07:01):
week one or anything like that, and so it's something
I'm not really thinking about too much.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
How do you approach that seven of the NFL's better players.
Is it possible that they may not play at all
in the preseason.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
It's possible, but I doubt it.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
I still liked each guy's different, but I still liked
the player starters. I just got to see how it
pans out and what the risk reward is with it.
Speaker 5 (07:23):
Go to Juwan, Is there any concern on the coaching
staff with the seriousness of his calf injury? And like
last season there was a calf situation with caffrey and
then it turned out to be a lot worse. Is
that the same kind of tone with this one.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
Or that so much he's just trying.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
No, McCaffrey's was achilles tendonitis that you been bothering for
a while and never got better and Juwana is a
calf that he missed all last training camp with. You know,
it's something that we don't think will be too serious,
but it's bothering him now and depending on how much
he misses. And I always want guys out there. It
helps him, it helps the team. But Jean was already
(07:58):
last year too, missing some time.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
With so many receivers likely unavailable to begin the season,
but coming back maybe.
Speaker 6 (08:06):
Week six or week six, how do you approach right now?
I mean, do you start looking at a more high
profile you know, I'm a Mauri Cooper for example, somebody
like that took.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
To bring in.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
I mean it is a challenge.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
I mean there's a lot, there's possibilities later none are guaranteed,
but you know, and there's lots of things that tied
to that. Who's available, how much are available for and
the situation our teams in salary cap wise and stuff
and what we can do.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
But yeah, we're looking into everything.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
We'll always try to do the best, but try not
to just panic and do something to survive a tough
situation at the expense of what would really hurt you
later in this year and definitely next year.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
You to fit in the salary cap. You have a
lot of solid cap this year, but not in the
next few years.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
Is important to roll some over and you're thinking about that.
That's definitely more a math question for people who study it.
But I also know what you see on the salary
cap right now when people will get stuff. When it
happens isn't always exactly the same as it looks. So
it's when when signings are accounted for, when the bonuses
go in.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
So it's all don't have as much as it seems.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
Special Teams operation as a.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Whole, by no means perfect.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
But I was happy with the style that they played
at a number of guys showed up, a number of individuals,
and we'll keep pushing them for we want better.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
But I always happy with the first game.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
You're happy with Mark in the game and after watching
the film, did that validate.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
What your thoughts were? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (09:33):
It did.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
It's definitely from a defensive standpoint, Special team is not
quite the same, but definitely from a defensive standpoint, is probably.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
Always you know.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Potent, I mean studying coming out of college and we
know he has the ability to you know, he's played
in the sleep for a fe years, so that's what
we brought him here to do at least compete with
these guys on it.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
And today was the first day we.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Got him out of practice, so uh, I think it's
a good star for him to hopefully be able to
earn that spot.
Speaker 5 (10:11):
And Isaac Garrindo saw him out there kind of working,
same kind of deal with my question with Ricky Pierso.
He seemed kind of like he was going closer to
full speed somewhere in there. Is he close to a return?
And if so, impossible, did you see him Saturday or no?
Speaker 3 (10:25):
No, it's he's going full speed because it's his shoulder,
so he can run full speeds. Just you know, he's
got to protect himself, so it's his shoulder. Is gonna
kee himut a couple more weeks?
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Yeah, coming along? Who's that? He's coming along?
Speaker 3 (10:40):
Hoping that I was hoping to have him back this week.
Then it goes good yesterday as we anticipated. We can
see for possible Thursday, but I'm guessing it'll be another
week now.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Good.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
All right, thanks guys,
