Speaker 1 (00:00):
That's up, guys, all right?

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Injuries for practice today, Ricky personal knee, will not practice,
the Winners knee limited, Brindle Hamstring Limited, Tatum thigh limited,
Bryce Helf hamstring limited, rock Perty toe limited.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Go ahead?

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Is you're gonna sit back with prisall or how was
the status right now?

Speaker 4 (00:26):
Just the same as what I said last week? No
step back, just take longer to hell than we thought.

Speaker 5 (00:31):
As far as Brandon and you are, are you confident
that he's going to play this year or is there
a possibility that he doesn't.

Speaker 6 (00:40):
He doesn't ever get that window open and it.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
Doesn't play, I would think, I mean, I'm pretty confident
that he's going to eventually, I mean at least open
up his practice one window. And we talked about it
being week to week right now, so still wait until
he's ready.

Speaker 6 (00:53):
Is it a matter of you know, hit him hitting
these marks, you know, the GPS stuff, the speech to
those types of things, very.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Technical things at this point.

Speaker 6 (01:03):
Yes, you didn't mention at arch would your plan be
with that he's healthy?

Speaker 1 (01:09):
That just slotted right back in as the start.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
Uh, We'll see how the week goes and depends how
he looks. That spends it a real good job last week, so,
but he's not limited today, he's full go, so.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Gives him a better chance. But we'll see how the
week plays out.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Use eater have and is there a chance he'll be
back this year or is it bad enough.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
That no, he pulled his hamstring? But yeah, there he'll
be back.

Speaker 5 (01:30):
What do you think of Jordan Watkins obviously kind of
making his way back on the field the last two games.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
What do you think about what you've seen from him?

Speaker 5 (01:37):
And then how does it kind of help out with
the as to say injuries with the way.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
I received, Well, I mean he's gotten up and got
his opportunity because of the injuries. So that's why he's
been up the last two weeks. And I thought he
had a big play last week on the second and
twelve that we went to him on and just getting
better each week and waiting for more opportunities.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Do you see yourself giving Rock more first team round
this week? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:01):
I'd like to. Yeah, plan on pushing it each week.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
One rookie we haven't seen it as Jordan James.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
How's he doing in practice?

Speaker 5 (02:07):
And was the planned to sort of regard him this
year if the veterans ahead of him stay healthy or
could he work.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
His way onto the field.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
No, I think he could work his way onto the field.
I think it's tough. You know, the plan wasn't too originally,
but hurt his knee. I think his first practice came
back two weeks later, broke his pinky, then missed all
that and so he missed an entire training camp. Came
back I think in week two. Once he did, we
had already traded for Brian. You know, we have Isaac
with our special team's role in the past game, and

(02:35):
I think Jordan's We's been getting more reps in practice,
doing a good job, and hopefully we'll be able to
get him up sometime this year.

Speaker 6 (02:41):
You were, excuse me, grow fairly candid before the trade
deadline of the week? Who are about what you guys
were looking for? Your approach? I think a lot of fans,
you know, when you don't make any of the move
besides Keanon white, like do that as some sort of
a white flag on the season or whatever. I guess,
how would you respond to factly didn't make a significant

(03:03):
move and like kind of likes on how you viewed
this year's team.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
Yeah, I don't think it has to do with how
we be this year's team. I think we worked just
as hard this year to make a trade that made
sense for our team this year and next year, just
as hard as we do every year. I mean, there's
there's a lot of teams with records like six and
three or better than didn't make any big trade. They're
not Just because you make a big trade doesn't mean
it's always a smart move. There's a lot of risk

(03:29):
that goes into it, not just for this year, but
throughout your whole future. I was excited we were to
be able to make it one that we felt real
good about last week and getting keyon. I know we
looked into a ton of them, but the asking price
was too much on all the ones Ki.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
When you had the Elnja Mitchell here, you finished games
with him.

Speaker 6 (03:46):
What do you want to see from these other backs
or what do you want to see from a back
that you want to finish a game with because you're
finishing with Christian.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Now, I guess.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
I mean that they're running the ball the same way.
I'm at that Brian stepped into a good job. I
mean we never said he like Elishah was our finisher
by any means, It's just how it played out. Sometimes
sometimes you go in and a guy runs two good
runs and you stick with them for a little bit.
But yeah, no, we never had any role for any backwards,
like all right, this guy goes and finishes it, this
guy starts it. It's really just the momentum how guys

(04:18):
are doing. And I think Brian has really stepped it
up these last couple of weeks. He's got a couple
more opportunities, made some big plays on special teams and
hopefully we can get him in there.

Speaker 5 (04:27):
More pile between max play on the field and his leadership.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Is he even better than advertised?

Speaker 4 (04:35):
I mean, I guess maybe a little better than advertised,
but that's just based off how good advertisements are Max
always he's just done so much in college and done
a lot in this league, So we had a pretty
good we had a good feeling that he could be
like this, and he's been like this since Ota, so
hasn't been much of a surprise for everyone in the building.

Speaker 6 (04:55):
Pretty notices the kicker, and then yet you hired a
new coordinator. What do you think else has gone into
the overall improven of special teams?

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Particularly the last month or so.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
I mean, I think making kicks and getting a pump
blocked as usually see, the biggest things that stick out
the most are giving up a big return. I mean
those are you can play really good special teams, and
any one of those three things happens on just one play,
then it's catastrophic special teams. So I think we've been
able to avoid some of the bigger plays that we
missed last year. Obviously, the kicker being on it like

(05:26):
he has been has really helped. And then I think
a number of the guys we brought in, and I
think all three specialists have done a real good job
and they've all gotten better throughout the year too. I
think guys like Gibson, guys like Neil, I mean Giffard,
guys like Neil. Bringing those guys in have helped a bunch,
and I think guys are just proven.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Giving guys guys back healthy is going to give you
the situation where the rookies don't have to play as
much can and that be good at this part of
the season that they got those reps in the up,
but maybe to take a step back so they can
avoid you know, the rookie.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
Ball or rep Yeah, I think so. I mean, I
think lots of guys get opportunity because of injury, and
I think opportunities always help people. Whether you did good
with it or bad with it, you can learn from it.
And sometimes when you don't have to do it for
an entire year or something like that, sometimes you get
in there and you can manage it for a little bit,
but you're not quite ready for it, so eventually you
break down. And so when you can get in and

(06:17):
get out, I do think it helps.

Speaker 5 (06:18):
Gus Well, I've been wanting to ask you about Jake Tanjis,
you know, a local guy and went to cal and
what have you seen from him this season that sort
of allowed this breakout as far as his performance.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
Really just stepping it up in game moments and just
showing his teammates and everyone that the game's not too
big for him. Starting back to the Seattle game, we
had such a big game plan for Kittle that game,
and we weren't at all anticipating losing them as early
as we did, and we had to change a bunch
of stuff and eventually you just got to say screw
it and live with results. And every time we went
to him, he made a bunch of plays and we

(06:50):
made a game winning play, and then he's done it
every week since, and not just in the past game,
but also in the run game, playing through some juries.
So we always knew we had some ability, but I
feel like you just really matured in the moment and
it's been getting it done on Sundays.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
Give Sean McVay drew place for you early in his career.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
What do you remember about his time in that role?
About what uh when he when Sean Drew plays for you?

Speaker 3 (07:10):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (07:10):
So, yeah, Sean was awesome.

Speaker 4 (07:13):
I you know, I remember my dad and I interviewing
him and he killed it in it.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
My dad was more impressed with it.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
I thought he was doing it John Grudden impersonation the
whole time, but obviously I'm just joking. I was impressed too,
But I had the same j job that Sean had
for Gruden. So what I did for John for two years,
I think after me was Nate Hackett, and then after Nate,
I think was Sean. So we both had the same background.
So it was cool to watch and interview him and
know where he was coming from. And then he was

(07:42):
unbelievable with the stuff. I think always, you know, the
pictures always has the most access to the coordinator, the
guy spend the most time with and stuff.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
But he didn't last long there.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
I remember our titand coach John Imbery got the head
coach shop of Colorado and I think it was like
by week fourteen that I lost my picture Jarar and
we made him the tight end coach of doing.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
That job specifically helps young coach.

Speaker 4 (08:03):
I think it's one access to the coordinator, but to like,
once you become a position coach, I mean that that's
what your job is, like, that's what you have to do.
Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. You
lock into that position and making sure that position is right.
When you're a picture Jarre and you're dealing with the
coordinator a lot, you've got to do a little bit
of everything. So you just kind of gives you a
very good foundation on how you're going to coach the

(08:24):
rest of the year, I mean the rest of your career.
And I go back to my times before I was
a position coach or coordinator, and that's when I really
learned defense. That's when I really learned other positions, really
learned to O line play, really learned the fronts on
defense and stuff like that, and once you become a
position coach, yeah, you like to do that stuff, but
that's not really what's important at that time. What's important
is making sure your position gets.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
The job done. And there's a lot more room to
grow when you're not that. You know, all the injuries
to key players.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Is it fair to say that this team is overachieved
through the first half of the season.

Speaker 4 (08:54):
I mean, I want to say overachieved because when we
believe we could do this, you know, I think I
think I'll always when you have injuries, it's it's much
more of a challenge, definitely. But I think some of
the key positions we have had it key injuries we've had,
We've had some good guys step up. I mean, I'm
thinking all these positions, it's just a total backup. I
think we've had some guys come in and play like starters.

(09:16):
And I also know other teams in the league have
some of these issues too. So we're six and three
and we got a chance here, we're in the hunt,
and but we'll see how we finished rest of this half.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Out Gosh, how well Mac has played.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
Does there come a point this season where you get
concerned about messing with offense and chemistry if you make
a switch or go back or go abroad. No, I
don't really get concerned too much of the offensive chemistry.
I mean it's more I mean Max Shoney can play
at a high level. Everyone knows that Brock can play
at a high level. When Brock is healthy and he's himself,
we know he'll play at a high level. So as

(09:48):
long as you have a quarterback playing at a high level,
don't worry too much about the chemistry.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
What have you seen from.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
Left in stout and I know the secondary has been
moving around a little bit, what have you seen their progress?

Speaker 1 (09:58):
I mean I love the way up to the sole plays.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
I think he's a rookie out there who plays the
right way, who's gonna be a really good starter in
this league for a while. As always, you get got
to go through some ups and downs when you just
throw guys in the fire like we have with him.
But he never shies away. He always plays physical plays
to me, with probably the least hesitation on our defense,
just with how hard he reacts, how hard he runs
to the ball. And truly believe he's made of the

(10:20):
right stuff, and I think this year is really good
for him and he's gonna be a good player for us.

Speaker 6 (10:25):
The last you guys have the ball, McCaffrey and Robinson,
and they're gonna get most of the carries. But you know,
Grenda did show flash his last year. What does what
does he need to improve to at least give him
a chance to.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
Get on the field on He needs to be better
than two backs in front of him, you know, I
mean that's how it was in the past. You know,
he got his opportunities when JP got hurt, got his
opportunities to start when both of those guys got hurt,
and he did very.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
Well with it.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
And that's he's just the third guy right now. And
you don't hand the ball up to two guys, you know,
you hit it off to one and usually there's a
two man rotation. Sometimes you can have a third, but
with our with Christian being elite as he is in
the past game and protections and stuff, it's kind of
hard to get a three man rotation there.

Speaker 6 (11:11):
Okay, first matchup, you ran the ball a lot at
thirty plus times and didn't get a lot for it,
but you stayed with it now since then, what have
you seen from them?

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Their defense on film? Why are they so tough against
the run?

Speaker 4 (11:24):
I mean, I think their front five, the guys they
keep on the line of scrimmage usually is probably the
best in the NFL. I think, you know, they don't
have to make the secondary very vulnerable and doing a lot,
so they can always have usually six or seven guys
swarm into the ball, extremely hard to give up a
big play on I don't think they've given up a
third and twelve plus this year, which is kind of
unheard of. By week nine, I think they're number one

(11:44):
in the NFL and second eleven plus.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
So when you can when you have.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
As good of a pass rushes there as in the league,
and that same pass russ group can stop the run,
it leads to a very good defense. And that's what
they are, all

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Right, Thanks guys,
