Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, how y'all doing good?
Speaker 2 (00:03):
For sure? I know you've moved on from the last game,
and this trampish just saying it seems like weeks ago,
since it was a Thursday game, But how much feedback
did you get for your performance that night? So many
people talking about how tough you are and the things
you've battled through, teammates, media, everything.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Yeah, I think everybody did. Honestly, it was a tough game.
Any overtime game in the NFL, you're going to have
guys who are playing more plays, and the defense did
a great job and I was really just proud of
the team. And that's part of football is playing tough.
And the tough part is, you know, getting back and
having to do it the next week. So we had
a couple of days and at the end of the day,
(00:42):
all these games are going to hopefully come down to
one score, and you just got to be tough and
mentally physically and put your body through it and then
keep playing.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Question about your took this in. I mean, you had
some spurts in the game where it looks like you
were tired. It looked like you were hurting or dry heaving,
but you were fighting through, like all the illments that
you were dealing with, did you learn anything about yourself
thick game? Did anything happen where you like, I've unlocked
something in my own confidence about myself after the game.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Yeah, I know what you're saying. I just think that
every game is different, and and that game I knew
was gonna take a lot of toughness and just taking
it one play at a time. And I believe if
you can protect yourself, that you should be out there
and playing. And a lot of guys are working through stuff.
That's that's the NFL. And I've learned that you just
got to be able to go out there and protect
(01:31):
yourself and play. And yeah, I think that's our team's
DNA right now, and we got to continue that. Just
because you do it for one one week or two
weeks or three or whatever. You got to be able
to not be complacent with your effort and toughness. And
that's something that you can control, to be honest, and
and that's that's a variable that you can control. So
I always focus on that. The results take care of themselves,
(01:53):
but you can be tough and have a good attitude
and work through the mental and physical stuff, and that's
all you can ask for.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Really an eventful Thursday. Can you take us through what
happened to begin the day in your hotel room.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Yeah, there was just some police activity and stuff and
I don't really want to talk about it, and just yeah,
it was before the game or whatever, and I'm kind
of just moved on to this week.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
How did you spend the weekend kind of recovering and
how do you.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Feel right now? Yeah? It's, uh, every game you have
a plan for for what you need to fix and
what you need to get better at, not only on
the field but off the field with your with your
body and how you feel. So for me, just getting
treatment every day and work in and we have a
good plan in place, and I feel confident and I'm
just working through it day by day and and that's
(02:41):
that's all you can do.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
For your oblique entry on the last snap, And if so,
do you think you could have continued to play?
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Yeah, it was definitely in the game, and I don't
know that was the last snap, so I guess you
didn't have to find out. But yeah, I think, like
I said, we got a plan in place and just
got to work through it and make sure you can
protect yourself right now help wise working through it. I think,
like I said, got a plan with the training staff
(03:12):
and been getting treatment every day and trying to do
everything I can, sleep, eat, do the little things. And
everyone else is doing the same thing. So that's that's
NFL football.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
It's a bit of a difficulty with throwing right now.
Just during a portion of practice, we got to watch
and notice you weren't doing it.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Yeah, well Mick, Mick Lombardi got to go out there
and play quarterbacks, so he looked pretty good.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Because of the oblique that just kind of resting.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Yeah, I was just like just trying to save, save,
save some throws and you know there's a lot of
volume out there and at the end of the day,
got to be ready for Sunday, And like I said,
we got a plan, so taking it day by day.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
When it goes to Adrian Martinez, coach Salasta, if you
spend a little bit of time with him, then you
be impressed by him. Just we see you guys out
there to Chad and Latin sometimes yea by for sure,
what's the relationship between you and Martinez VI. So the
type of person he is, player of preparation. What is
it like from your perspective.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Yeah, I think he's just he's really cool, just laid
back dude and doesn't let a lot of get to him.
And I feel like he has had an interesting journey
and played really well and obviously he's done a great job.
Like just having him in the room, he's just a
cool vibe, so really appreciate him. We've got to know
each other and gotten close, so he's the same guy
every day. And those are the guys you want in
(04:31):
your quarterback room. That makes it easy for Brock and
I and everybody and the coaches. So when you have
a quarterback room that's unified and together, like you can
go places, and when you don't, you don't really go anywhere.
So you mentioned that you have a plan that you're
working with the training stuff on.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Do you feel if the game was today, would you
be comfortable playing?
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Yeah? I mean the game's not today, right, so I
don't really do like the theoretical questions, but definitely feel
like I have a good plan in place and the
games on Sunday and we'll see how I feel when
we get there.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Sure, Nick, he probably saw the clip from Nick Saban
over the weekend telling everybody that he used to call
you mac and rowe because you would blow up and
he didn't throw pay make a perfect play and because
of your tennis background, there is that still is that
still part of you in terms of the you know,
making a throat.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
A Yeah, I told I need to call him because
I thought we graduated from that. He brings that one
up every year. I'm like, Coach Savan, like get a
new joke or something. But next time I see him,
I'll rip him just like he used to rip me.
But no, I definitely like had to work on that
and he actually helped me a lot with that. And
hope the next time he talks about it, he'll talk
(05:42):
about the progress I made from my freshman to my
sophomore year just working with different people on staff, doctors
and whatnot, and just meeting with people and having these
conversations about how can I get my mental game better
and really just playing each play, one play at a time.
That's what he preached. But he had a there's a
guy named He's the Wizard Alanie Rosen. He worked with
(06:04):
him at Michigan State, so I got to meet with
him and that kind of helped me really get my
mental game going and kind of just play, to play
one play at a time and not show emotion like that.
And I really graduated from that, so he can stop
saying that.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Then he thought that the tennis it's transferable in terms
of things you do in the pocket.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Yeah, is that true?
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Think?
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (06:27):
I think so. I mean I didn't play like, like
super competitively. I was pretty competitive, but my sister played
in college and my dad obviously in the pro. So, like,
I mean, the serve is very similar to the throwing motion,
and like my dad used to like have me warm
up with a tennis racket because like you're doing the
same motion, and then your footwork is very similar because
you could be playing on clay and it's you know,
(06:48):
you're sliding around, or you can play on hard court
and you got to be very firm with your footing.
So and then obviously running to the ball, like you
have to have hand eye coordination. So it's all reaction based.
And I do feel like I haven't played tennis in
a while, but I can go out there and hit
the ball and I do feel like it helps me
with my feet.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Give football my mayores. When you're sleeping and if so,
could you give an example of one?
Speaker 1 (07:10):
What not? Really not anymore, at least maybe back back
in the day, but right now I'm good.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Going back to coach Shavan. Do you ever see him
on college game day and he's light and funny And
do you ever think like, where was this when I
was your player?
Speaker 1 (07:26):
Yeah? No, he was light and funny with me. I
think you just have to be able to give him
something back, you know, if you if you're if you
act scared to coach Saban, then he knows like he
can be mean and stuff. But I did like his
white suit the other night. That was pretty nice. So
hopefully he keeps wearing some good suits. That's where I
get my suits from. So all right, thanks
