Speaker 3 (01:02):
He's gonna laugh so much harder Mine, explain yours before
you show up to the So this looks like it
is the Oh they got you dad? Yeah, shout out
to my pops. He used to cut my hair. He
had me push back at a young age.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
You guess you lined up a little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yeah, but you see the pushback at a young age.
I'm trying to remember what great that is. This is
from my uh my sixth grade yearbook.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Huh, well I don't have access to that, but stan
from ig right, No, Stanford actually did a Stanford story
on you.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
Yeah, okay, you want the story from the photo?

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Please please.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
So this is my sixth grade yearbook photo and the
we do like.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
Yeah, year one, sixth grade No, go ahead, smart kid.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Ye, anyway, we had to do like a in ten years,
I will and then you fill in the blank. And
I had said in ten years, I'll be graduating from
Stanford with a history degree.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
And so that that's heartwarming.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
But yeah, I used to look shout your other camera.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Yes, please do rough.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
It's tough.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
Shout out to my pop for give me the pushback.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
You know the trend. Please please go ahead and say
sign it.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
Now. Let's let's see let's see a young fan.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Well, this is right.

Speaker 5 (02:17):
Here is a like Curtis said, this is a young
flan just so signed the old letter intent to the
good old great University of Arizona. You know, got the
uh got the nice little hair doing no facial hair,
same smile, pencil neck about about one.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
One fifty six, soaking wet, soaking wet. Oh yeah, you
look so happy though, Yeah, got a good old smile.

Speaker 4 (02:48):
Man.

Speaker 5 (02:49):
You know it's not that bad, man. I kind of
like this one though. This is this is some good
memories here.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
Positive.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Ah man, you know that.

Speaker 5 (02:55):
That good dopamine word to coach, holler that dope mean.
So I'll go ahead and sign this.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
You can't lie, y'all. Cut it. Y'all could have done
me way worse.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
So honestly, I don't fully expect I did a deep dive.
This is what. This is what I came up with.
These are on recruiting websites and.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
Get me on Facebook.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
So y'all are okay, Okay, I like that.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
That's good.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
I feel like these are these are okay these this
is his is it's what.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Okay, that's great.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Thank you, Thank you for indulging us in that. All right,
so let's let's continue the deep dive into pre forty
nine ers. Flanning Curtis, So, tell us a little bit
about your path that led you to this team.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Yeah, okay, I'll start it off.

Speaker 5 (03:38):
You know, obviously I was a you know, skinny guy
in college. You know, I was a young safety in
college and then you know, when I was going through
the whole draft process, they Niners came to me and
they they wanted me to, you know, go into the box,
potentially playing linebacker. So I already kind of had a
plan with them, kind of already knew where I was
going to be. Obviously, you know, you have other teams

(03:58):
knocking on your door trying to figure out, you know what,
you know, what position they want you to play. And
so as the draft process grows, I go undrafted and
then the Niners call, and then I felt comfortable, you know,
coming here because if I already had a set plan
on what I was going to do, so you know,
it was just kind of an easy signing for me.
It is kind of like I already knew where I
wanted to be.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
So a lot of people don't know this. You're a former.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Safety, Yeah, I'm a former safety.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
What's it like making that transition at the NFL level?

Speaker 6 (04:28):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (04:28):
It was hard.

Speaker 5 (04:28):
It was rough, man, I remember, I remember, you know,
it was like a I was trying to do a
run pass key and it was a run and I'm
buzzing to the.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Opposite side, like it was bad. It took. It took
about a good, good two to two and a half years.

Speaker 5 (04:43):
I kind of really know how to get my keys right,
So it was a it was a struggle.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Any desire to play safety ever again.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Ever, absolutely not. The way this game is.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
How these people playing space, that's like a foreign language
to me.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
I can't do it.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
And Curtis, you started with the Broncos.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Yeah, So I went undrafted to the Broncos kind of
similar to him. It was a few teams that I
was picking between h once I found out that I
was going to go undrafted, and Denver ran a similar
scheme to what I ran in college, so it kind
of just made sense. And then somehow, some way come
I think it was week twelve, my rookie year, I
got cut from Denver and then luckily I got picked

(05:24):
up here that following Saturday and been here ever since.
Kind of hopped between peace squad and active roster and
kind of found my way this year so like and
honestly played linebacker the whole time. I didn't get to
be a safety convert like Flann, but luckily I had
some good guys in front of me, and Johnny got
me right over the past few years, so it's been it's.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
Been a long journey, but it's been a cool one
for sure.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
It is rare that we see you two not right
next to each other. So would love to hear the
story of how you two became friends.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
So I'll start. People might not know this truth.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Tell the truth.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
I'm going to touch the true. Flann hated me when
we first met, right stick.

Speaker 5 (06:05):
By this rightfully, so I still hate him.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Him and disease. They took me under their wing very
quickly my rookie year. This was in twenty one. When
I first got here, my locker was right next to
his ease, and Flann couldn't stop bothering his ease. So well,
I'll be honest, he couldn't stop, so naturally we all
kind of grouped up. You know, I didn't know Flann

(06:29):
too well. I didn't know his manner HYSM, so I
assumed he was too fond of me.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
Yeah, little did I know.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
I'm just I'm just a laid back kind of dude.
You know what I'm saying. How you didn't say you
and he and.

Speaker 5 (06:40):
He's like a bounce off the wall kind of guy,
kind of be off your face.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Like a little gnat hesitation. Yes, and I just you know,
I'm like, and then you know.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
You were figuring him out.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
Yeah, just like he's a little brother. That's what it is.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Continue Curtis, it's crazy a little bro me on the
podcast you are, but uh but yeah, nah, it was,
Uh it was cool.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
I do appreciate it, Like, looking back, I do appreciate
it the way that they took me under their wing.
But uh yeah, didn't didn't think Flann liked me all
the way up until that that following off season. That's
when I'm I kind of realized he was just messing around.

Speaker 4 (07:13):
And I learned more about him.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
But uh yeah, especially once AZ's left. Flann told me
I had no choice, and so from that point on,
I kind of just accepted my fate.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
But uh yeah, it's my guy.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Was there an event or somewhere where you figured it
out like, Okay, we actually are cool? A hangout perhaps
a linebacker outing no, so.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Yeah, you go.

Speaker 5 (07:37):
Well, I mean, like Curtis said, it wasn't like it
wasn't written on stone, like I don't like you, you
know what I'm saying. It was kind of one of
those things where, like I said, like I'm just a
laid back dude, and we just kind of gradually gradually
improved our relationship over time. And then when a Z's left,
it was like he ain't got nobody else, you know
what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
He got me, so from then on, you know, so
it was like it was like a friendship exactly. Okay,
you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
So he kind of kind of took him under my wing,
and you know, and now I look at him from
a caterpillar to a butterfly.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
See. I had a good answer, but we'll just stick
with it was a pity friendship.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
I mean it sounds like you guys are best friends now.
So water under the bridge, I would say, sure. So
both of you have had a chance to reevaluate your
situations throughout your several seasons with the Niners. What keeps
you coming back? What's special about this organization?

Speaker 2 (08:27):
I just think the camaraderie.

Speaker 5 (08:28):
Man, Like everybody, everybody acts like brothers in this locker room.
And it doesn't matter like who you are, you know
what I'm saying, where you come from. It's just all
like one big family. And that's kind of like something
that I would never take for.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Granted, Yeah, I agree with him, and to build off that.
Like for me personally, I've had to grow a lot
as a player and as a person here with a
lot of the guys both in my rookie class and
obviously guys like Flann, Fred and Dre and just countless
guys that I've been here since I've been here, that
it was important for me to kind of continue that
journey here as long as I have the opportunity and

(09:00):
continue to grow.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
So it meant a lot to me to be able
to continue.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
To evolve my game and just kind of, you know,
evolve as a person here along with everyone that's kind
of helped me through that process.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
Both of you are now kind of on the veteran
end of that linebacker room. We've had Fred and Dre
on this podcast a couple of times. Take me through
the personalities of the room. Not everyone is as outgoing
I've noticed, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Not not everyone is outgoing. So we'll break it down.

Speaker 5 (09:32):
You got Tatum rookie, right, you know, he's real low
key quiet as of right now. You know, he's not
like he's open. He's opened himself a little bit to us,
but to everybody else he's kind of you know, got
that shell on, but he's a good kid.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
It out.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
So you're an out good guy, you know what I'm saying.
Love to be around him.

Speaker 5 (09:51):
You got d winners, Top three, talks a lot. Okay,
he always we see now listen, I said in our room.
He always has something on his mind. There's always something
that there's always a topical conversation. He's always he's always
critiquing something. Then you got Curtis Robinson. As you see here,

(10:12):
he already explained who he is.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
How would you how would you describe Curtis Robinson personality wise?

Speaker 5 (10:19):
A little bit, a little bit less indeed, but kind
of like on that that line of you know what
I'm saying, I got something to say, but I'm not
gonna say it. You know, he's gonna keep it to himself,
and then he's gonna say it. It's kind of like
you don't know what Curtis you're gonna get.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
I would argue, that's not so different from you. You
also have lots of thoughts. Okay, all right, okay, okay.

Speaker 5 (10:40):
I'll let him explain me. And then you got dre character,
huge character, loves ball obviously, you know what I'm saying,
And I love to be around Dre's He's it's just
funny because I came in with Dre.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
So it's just seeing him grow and seeing who he
is now is it's crazy and it's it's just great
to see. And then you got friend. Everybody loves Fred,
all right, everybody loves Fred Captain America.

Speaker 5 (11:08):
You know what I'm saying, Always does the right thing.
You know, has a kid now, man shout out to them.

Speaker 4 (11:13):
Man.

Speaker 5 (11:13):
You know, he's just I mean, obviously you know what
I'm saying. Like I've I've been with Fred for years too,
So it's just like it's it's just fun to it's
fun to be around him, you know what I'm saying.
Like he always brings he always brings light to a
cloudy day, you know what I'm saying. Always has energy,
you know what I'm saying. It doesn't matter what's going on,
he has he has great energy.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Man. It's just he's just a great guy to be around.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Curtis take it away, you get you get to describe
plan for everyone.

Speaker 3 (11:37):
And then there's Demetrius. Where do I start? Very outspoken?
You will know when he's having a good day. You
will know when he's having a bad day. Absolutely, and uh,
as much.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
As I love the guy, oh no, that man can
be a pain. But it's one of those things where
it's like, you don't know.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Like I was gonna say, it's one of those things
where it's it's it's one of those family members where
you know when they're coming to the family gathering and
you're like, all right, let's kind of prepare ourselves a
little bit.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
But then for me or for you what we're talking
about here.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Let's not ask the team because you can act funny
for the podcast. But all right, like I said, you
love him regardless, but you gotta know he's coming with
a little extra like.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
Uncle at the thinks.

Speaker 5 (12:32):
Absolute absolutely, yes, yes.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
You hear how he is.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
That's exactly that's me. I could take that. Yeah, that's me.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
That's okay, I could see that. Both of you have
mentioned this off season and it sounds like off seasons
past you stayed to train with Fred. What does that
entail to train with us?

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Okay, I'm.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
All right, Well him chiming all that, No.

Speaker 5 (13:03):
We uh yeah, I mean all three of us past
two off seasons trained here.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
I mean it's been great.

Speaker 5 (13:09):
I mean kind of seeing them every day is kind
of daunting, but at the same time it's fun. But
you know what I'm saying, just you know, being able
to you know, because we all play the same position,
we all know the techniques, just to be able to
critique one another. How can we get each other better?
You know, It's been great, so I love it. We
push each other.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
How does the boxing fit into all of this? Is
this a whole line backer group participation?

Speaker 2 (13:32):
And it's it's kind of why are you laughing? It's
kind of a.

Speaker 5 (13:39):
Well me, me, me and Fred go consistently and Dre
sprinkles in there.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
And I'm not I'm not a boxer.

Speaker 5 (13:44):
Yeah, I've tried, tried. I've tried to, you know, bring
them along, you know, whenever you're ready.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
You can come. But maybe next year, Yeah, maybe next year.

Speaker 5 (13:52):
But yeah, my dog MJ kind of you know, always
gets me and Fred right every single off season. That's
something we kind of doing, like our off days. We
go up there and get right.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
What is the correlation with Fred's three forced fumbles in
that book? Is there any just the right hook that
he's throws as just.

Speaker 5 (14:10):
I mean Fred, I mean, it's like but Fred practices
every day in practice, so it's kind of like when
it gets in the game, it's kind of.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Like already human nature.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
No one's surprised.

Speaker 5 (14:18):
Yeah, nobody's surprised when he gets it because that's that's
what he does in practice, So Fred to do it
at the game, it's not surprised at all.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
For both of you taking on bigger roles this year.
With Dre still out with his achilles injury, has that
added pressure to the season for you too, or is
that something you welcome?

Speaker 2 (14:34):
I mean you welcome it. Man.

Speaker 5 (14:35):
That's the standard that we have for the whole room.
Like whoever's out there, you kind of got to uphold
that standard and play to a high level.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
Yeah, I mean it's to me. I see it as
an opportunity. I think everyone involved with the forty nine
ers is excited for Dre to come back. Like he said,
it's a standard that's already set and just an opportunity
to live up to that standard.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
We've been able to see Dre out there of practice,
pretty vocal sideline coach. Has he laid any gems on
you guys in terms of technique or what you guys
should be.

Speaker 4 (15:05):
Doing I'm always hearing it from Dre.

Speaker 3 (15:07):
I sit next to dream meetings, so there's always a
little internal conversation going on in the middle of Johnny's
meetings too, So I always get nice gems from Jerry.
He's a hell of a player, and like he said,
he's a football head. Exactly loves ball. So like that's
all he's ever thinking about is ball. So whenever he
has something to say to me, whether it's good or bad,
I'm tuned in football junkie.

Speaker 5 (15:28):
He always has something. He always has a nugget for
you to play better or play faster.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
You love it.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
What is the best piece of advice you've gotten from
him so far?

Speaker 5 (15:36):
Man, y'all see you just see how dre plays, you
know what I'm saying. So it's just he'll be trying
to punish folks, so that's kind of what he preaches.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
Does he also reprimand or like you know, offer stern advice?

Speaker 4 (15:50):
That's more of Fred's thing.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
Okay, all right, leave that, yeah the enforcer? Okay, got it,
all right? So let's see here first or of the
Year interception of Aaron Rodgers. Where does that land in
the career milestone?

Speaker 2 (16:07):
The top that's at the top. First off, a future
Hall of Famers. It can't beat it. I wish I
should have did that, but I don't want to.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
No, did you keep the game up?

Speaker 2 (16:21):
I did right there on the gaming table.

Speaker 1 (16:24):
I asked this question to fred Andre when they were
on the pod. They both feel very confident that if
they weren't linebackers, they would be quarterbacks. Don't roll your eyes.
That's what they picked. So I have to look back
to the tape. I believe both of them decided they

(16:46):
would be qbs in another life. So same question to
both of you. If you weren't linebackers, what position do
you think you could thrive in?

Speaker 4 (16:56):
Does it have to be offense? I think I could
be a cold punter.

Speaker 3 (17:01):
If you give me like two years to really train,
I'll be a cold punter.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
Did you ever play soccer?

Speaker 2 (17:06):
No?

Speaker 1 (17:07):
Okay, so you blind faith there?

Speaker 3 (17:09):
Yeah, I mean if they get to say they get
to be a good quarterback, I think I think I'll
be cold.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
All right, here we go. I think I could be
a legit receiver. I really do.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
What if what position?

Speaker 2 (17:22):
Receiver? X Z or I'm the ex. Damn You're I'm
the AX. I'm I'm not.

Speaker 5 (17:29):
I'm not going to say I'm like crazy. Shift you
to play in the slot.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
You gotta have routes. If you're the ex like you gotta.
You're getting manned up by the number one corner. He's
following you all.

Speaker 5 (17:39):
How is that He's gonna have a long day. But listen,
I think, yeah, I think I can play receiver. I
think I can. I can I can really get the
job done. Give me you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
What's your line? What's my stating?

Speaker 4 (17:49):
Yeah, like going into a contract year, what's your stat
line as a receiver.

Speaker 5 (17:52):
As a receiver the first the first four games I'm
giving you first Listen, can I can?

Speaker 6 (17:58):
I can?

Speaker 2 (17:58):
I can?

Speaker 3 (17:59):
I I just want to receptions, touchdowns, yards, going into
a contract year.

Speaker 4 (18:02):
Listen, how are you coming.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
First and foremost? I'm getting a fifteen.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
Hundred that's crazy?

Speaker 2 (18:07):
How many receptions?

Speaker 1 (18:09):
Crazy?

Speaker 4 (18:09):
Exactly how many receptions?

Speaker 5 (18:10):
I'm getting about ten to twelve touches a game. Okay, now,
first four games, I'll hear you this. Listen, it's going
to be like a eighty five and it's gonna graduate
go back ninety three.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
And then that third game is like you're hitting triple digit.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
I'm going crazy.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
So you're out playing like the likes of Brandon Nyuk and.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
No disrespect, no disrespect. This is this is this is
a this is an alternate reality. This is an alternate reality,
another life life.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
I'm going crazy out of curiosity. When is the last time,
if ever, that you've played receiver high school?

Speaker 4 (18:49):
I was way colder a receiver than playing.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
What was the stat line in high school? Just for
you know, a comparison.

Speaker 5 (18:55):
I wouldn't say it was crazy. We had a lot
of athletes, so it wasn't like one of those things
that clips fifteen. Yeah, yeah, I wouldn't like I said,
alternate life, alternately life.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
Okay, that's fair. We did put those parameters on it. Okay,
off the field right now. I know time is limited.
You guys like to spend a lot of time together,
right or no? Unfortunately, what are the hobbies or hangouts?

Speaker 2 (19:20):
