Speaker 1 (00:00):
I see this debate all the time. You're no longer Mike.
Oh here, Michael, until we get to the bottom of this.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Okay, going back, you said something that bothered me, you know,
ruffling by feathers.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
Scientifically we are we are not normal.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Absurd both go to jail. It is extremely over I
think this is crazy. I just I don't have any words.
I thought you were better than this.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
There's many things that ruffle Mike feathers.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Let's get ready and roun.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Ruffled Feathers, the debate show
where we get under each other's skin, and today we
are talking about sleep. How much of it do you
really need? And to join me in doing this. We've
got Josh Woods, We've got Mike Ford. They are gonna
go at it. Gentlemen, you have the floor, Mike sleeping
eight hours? Do you really need it?

Speaker 4 (00:49):
I just think it's just outrageously too much sleep. I
mean me, personally, we get twenty four hours in the day.
I personally don't want to spend a third of my
day sleeping. I don't think I don't think that that's
you know, that's that's very beneficial.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
You know Okay, So would you consider yourself a premier athlete? Yeah,
so you say that you exert a ton of energy.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Correct, Yes, I've been doing in my whole life.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
So you don't think that you need to rest, recovery,
regenerate all of that stuff.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
So this is where I take the thinking out. I
know that you know for going on thirty years now
that I don't consistently sleep for eight hours. I usually
get in between four to six. You hit your round
cycle within h I want to say it's sixty to
ninety minutes, So I mean I hit about what three
roalm cycles. I'm good to go. My brain's restored. I'm

(01:46):
a premier athlete, so I'm mentally strong. I don't have
much stress because I know what I'm doing with my job.
I know how to do my job, and I perform
it well. So these are things that you know benefits
of sleep. I necessarily don't feel as if I need
because mentally I'm strong long enough.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Okay, So mentally you can make your muscles regenerate that
the same ones that are tearing in the weight room
every day that happens during sleep. No, mentally you can
go ahead and get your brain power back together for
each install every day. Mentally, you can do all of that.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
Yeah, I have been doing it. I've been doing it.
You know, I'm going on eight years in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
So just never mind the science.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
I would say, you know, mentally, like I say I'm strong,
then I would say physically recovering. That comes from, you know,
the things inside of the facility. So I mean, what
are you what are your points? You're saying in sleep
in a third of your your day away, you know,
a third of your life. You know, because when you're
seventy five, you only live for fifty years.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
If you're sleep at eight, No, you live seventy five.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
No, you slept.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
You needed that sleep in order to get each to
the next day or the next year or whatever.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
You weren't living. You were sleeping for twenty five years because.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Your brain's so active, the hardest still pumping. What are
you talking about. You're not living, that's in coination.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
You're unconscious. You were sleep sleep.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Yeah, there's a part of your body that is still
conscious technically.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
A part yeah, not fully.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Okay, Okay, Michael, I'm gonna call you Michael. You're no
longer Mike. You're a Michael, until we get to the
bottom of this. Okay, let's go, dude. You have to sleep,
like you have to sleep. God rested on the seventh day. Okay,
like you have like rest is important if you just go, go, go,
go go. Eventually the cup is empty, the tank is empty,

(03:29):
you like, at some point you have to replenish it.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
Yeah, we refilled it with you know, a two hour nap,
not eight hours of consistent sleep.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
That makes no sense.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
It makes perfect sense. Our bodies work, our bodies working
around the sun.

Speaker 4 (03:41):
So how did you make it to the NFL You
slept for eight hours every day? Or did you did
you put it in work or did you get up
and work? Have you been told all your life the
early bird gets the.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Worm, right?

Speaker 4 (03:52):
You know you have to outwork your competition absolutely. You
know you work when your competition is sleep, right, not necessarily.
I mean that's what we've been told, you know. Coming
up there, these are quotes that we hear we work
while competition is sleep.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Either you're getting better you're getting worse.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
One saying that, So where is your your advantage if
you're sleeping and I'm working.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Well, I mean I would say that my advantage is
the simple fact that I'm sleeping, recuperating while you're up
doing god knows what, and then we come in at
the same time. I'm fully I'm ready to go. I
got no crust in my eyes. I'm ready, I'm roaring,
I'm ready to go. I'm in already, I'm already in
six gear. You're still warming up.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
So so I want I want the people out there
to really really think about this, to become a professional.
It's ten thousand reps, right, yeah, so this gives me
a chance to become a professional before him. Correct if
I'm not sleeping as much as him, so therefore I
am getting a better advantage by not arresting.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
That's that's completely that's completely false, because there's no telling
what I'm doing with my other sixteen hours. You're not working.
Just because you're up longer doesn't mean you're working for
all of those hours.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
But I am. I'm working not all of the hours,
but I'm getting more work put in than you are.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
You can't say that I have more time on hand. No, Well,
let's say you're just using two hours scrolling on Instagram.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Well that's for someone who's not a professional. We're both
sitting here.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
As professional, I can tell you right now, as a professional,
I'm scrolling on Instagram at times. But what I'm telling
you is I need sleep. There's no way I got
an or Ring. Okay, I'm competing with the Yeah, I'm
competing with the guys every day because I'm trying to
see my readiness score above ninety. I'm trying to see
my recovery. I want to see my heart rate drop.
I want to see all of those things because I

(05:34):
wanted the best next day for me.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
So here's my question for you.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
Today starts last night. So that's what I believe my.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
Question for you. You were an or Ring.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
Right, sure do you've slept eight hours with that or
ring on this told you it.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Wasn't good sleep?

Speaker 1 (05:47):
I sure have, I sure have.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
So I mean there are hours guaranteed like that is Beneficialick,
you could be in bed sleeping for eight hours and
never hit around cycle.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Well, so, I mean there are a lot of factors
that count bad. So that play into that.

Speaker 4 (06:02):
There's no point in me laying down and resting for
eight hours. I'll rest when i'm tired.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Just never mind the science. There's science behind it, and.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
You are just RAM cycles. I'm hitting them, they're recovering.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
How much rimsleep are you supposed to get?

Speaker 3 (06:18):
Do you know you're supposed to get? What? Four to six?

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Four to six cycle cycles?

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (06:25):
And scientifically, scientifically, scientifically we are we are not normal.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Four is absurd, like four is absurd. Four hours I'm not.
I'm not. I'm willing to die on that hill. Four
is absurd. Four hours of sleep, four.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
Hours of sleep.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
Four hours of sleep hits me at about two to
three RAM cycles.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
I just I don't have any words, dude, I thought
you were better than this.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
So no words means dumb chat.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
No chance, no chance that.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
Is going to be in the hands of our fan base.
