the radio replays from Sunday's Bengals Patriots game at pay
Course Stadium. It is a bright and sunny late November
day here in downtown Cincinnati as the Bengals look to
knock off one of the NFL's hottest teams, the New

(01:56):
England Patriots, who come to town with a nine and
two record and an eight game winning streak. And it
is time for the pig skin to fly here in
the jungle. This will be a fifty four yard try.
Moneymack just one for four from fifty plus this year,
but for his career he's made sixty seven percent from

(02:18):
beyond fifty yards. The snap is perfect, the kick is
on its way, it has the distance, and it is
good nice, And the Bengals score on their opening drive.
They started at their own nine yard line and moved
it enough for Moneymack to drill a field goal from
fifty four yards out. It is three to nothing Cincinnati.

(02:40):
On second down. May throws and it's intercepted by Gino
Stone running it back to the twenty far sideline. Fifteen
ten five touchdown Chino Stone and the Bengals. First and
ten from the Bengals twenty eight. May to throw under pressure,
fires downfield, nobody near Hunter Henry. He catches at the

(03:02):
ten and runs into the end zone for a Patriots touchdown.
Second and five Bengals at their own thirty six. Tightly
clustered formation for Cincinnati. Flacco fakes a hand off the
Tizz Brooks Pump fakes Bros picked off.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
It's going to be a pick six.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Atrocious decision by veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, and Marcus Jones
picks it off and runs it into the end zone.
It is second career pick six for Marcus Jones, both
of them against Cincinnati. There have been three attempts in
franchise history of sixty plus. Moneymack missed from sixty seven.

(03:39):
Doug Pelfrey missed from sixty three. Shane Graham missed from
sixty two. This will be a sixty three yard try
as Evan McPherson tries to join the club of NFL
kickers who have made kicks from beyond sixty yards. Ryan
Rico on the Bengals logo, waiting for the snap from
Will Wagner. Snap is good. Here comes the kick. Loft

(04:02):
it high in the air, bendoverend kick, Yes good nice.
Evan McPherson makes Bengals history with a sixty three yard
field goal, and Cincinnati scores at the gun in the
second quarter to pull within four. Fourth and goal from

(04:23):
the one. Bengals gotta stop under these circumstances a little
while ago, but pass interference on Dax Hill gave the
Patriots another chance. May in the gun Stevenson to is right,
May hands it off.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Stevenson hits no and stop.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
He did not get in real What a goal line stand.
Chino Stone getting too Ramandre Stevenson. The Bengals get two
stops on fourth and goal from the one, and this
time it counts. This will be the shortest possible field goal, right,
a nineteen yarder for Bori Gallis trying to give the

(05:04):
Patriots a ten point leave the snap the swing of
the right leg and the kick is good, and the
Patriots have a twenty three to thirteen lead with five
minutes and fifty five seconds to go. Flaccough, looking to
throw fires for the end zone, got hand, it is
caught by Mitch Tinsley, a touchdown on a gorgeous over

(05:26):
the shoulder throw, Mitch Tinsley beating Christian Gonzalez and Flacco
dropped it right in the basket for the touchdown.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
Or you're right, Dan, gorgeous is a great call, in
perfect description for that throw. I mean he got just
the right distance and more importantly, just the right height
and the ball came straight down. Not bad coverage, I
mean decent coverage, but the throw was too perfect that
he couldn't do anything about it.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
The Bengals have converted fourth and eight. Now they will
try to convert on fourth and ten. They have it
at the twenty only twenty three seconds to go. Flaco
catches the shotgun snap Blitz coming throws before getting hit
and it's broken up incomplete at the nine yard line.
No penalty flag on the field. Marcus Jones with the breakup,

(06:15):
and the Patriots winning streak is going to be extended
to nine game. The final score the Patriots twenty six
the Bengals twenty After the game, I spoke to players
on offense, defense, and special teams. Let's start on offense.
It was a tough game for Joe Flacco, who completed
fifty one percent of his passes for one hundred and

(06:37):
eighty three yards with a touchdown and a pick six.
But he didn't have Jamar Chase to throw to, and
with five minutes to go, Tee Higgins left the game
with a concussion. Flacco also missed a play when he
dislocated a finger on his throwing hand, but he kept battling,
throwing a touchdown pass to Mitch Tinsley with four forty

(06:58):
to go that made it a three point game. I
talked to Tinsley in front of his locker.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
We're in the locker room.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
You betch Tinsley, you had a touchdown catch today, an
opportunity there there late in the game to potentially pull
it out. Unfortunately, you guys couldn't quite score that game
winning touchdown. But what did you think of the offensive
performance late in the game and at least making it
a possible come from behind wind.

Speaker 5 (07:23):
I feel like We did a good job fighting, trying
to take advantage our opportunities when we were out there.
You know, some guys went down, and you know, some
guys stepped up, and I think, you know, we just
try to fight.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Today.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
Your touchdown pass was the first that Christian Gonzalez.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Is allowed all year.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
It looked like a perfect throw from Joe. Flacco, described
the route, described the play.

Speaker 5 (07:44):
Oh, it was a man coverage and you know, because
that was a great player, but you know.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
I've seen him.

Speaker 5 (07:50):
I gave him a great release stacked on them.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
You know, I just looked the.

Speaker 5 (07:53):
Ball and Joe put it right right there while I
needed to, and you know, I just made a play.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
You guys didn't have Jamar for the entire game. It
didn't have Tea late. How did that affect you and Andre
and some of the other guys trying to you know,
take up for that absence and make plays down the stretch.

Speaker 5 (08:10):
I mean, I feel like all of us has just
tried to do a good job of, you know, approaching
every single day in practice and you know, just every
just everyday mentality like where the starters. So I I think,
you know, we had to go in knowing that with
the confidence knowing that we can make plays, uh, you know,
when our numbers called, and just being ready for the opportunity.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
I mentioned the touchdown catch. How about the the catch
on fourth down late in the game. I'm not sure
how you caught that. It looked like went right through
the defensive back's hands and you somethholp up the found
the ball and state in balance.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
Yeah, it was just Uh that was just a focused then, honestly,
cause uh, I wasn't sure if he was gonna get
high enough or anything to you know, to get hand
on it. And then when I see him go through
his hands, kind of a reaction to everything, cause where
I thought the ball was gonna go and where it
actually ended up.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
You know, I just had to react to it.

Speaker 5 (08:53):
But uh, yeah it.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
Was and I just try to make a play. Mitchell,
Are you encouraged by what the defense is doing. It's
too weeks now where the defense at least has given
up twenty or fewer points to the other team's offense.

Speaker 5 (09:05):
I have full confidence in our defense, you know. I
feel like they grind, they go hard every single day.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
You know, they have a.

Speaker 5 (09:10):
Great mentality, the way they proach practice every single week,
and you know, I think it's showing out there this week,
so last week. So I mean, I know they're gonna
continue to do with what they've been doing, and you know,
just go go on to the next.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Mitch finished with two catches for twenty nine yards. Andre
Yosi Vas led the Bengals in receiving yards with sixty one.
Chase Brown had another big day, carrying nineteen times for
one hundred and seven yards and added twenty three receiving
yards on two catches. That's one hundred and thirty scrimmage yards,
the fifth straight game that Chase Brown is topped one hundred.

(09:46):
On defense, the Bengals were good against the run, holding
the Patriots to three point five yards of carry, but
they struggled to cover tight end Hunter Henry. He finished
with seven catches for a career high one hundred fifteen yards. Still,
the Patriots only scored one offensive touchdown, getting the rest
of their points on four field goals and a pick six.

(10:10):
With Cam Taylor Brett going on the injured list this week,
Jalen Davis was promoted from the practice squad and jumped
right into the starting lineup at slot corner. He had
the Bengals only sack and definitely contributed as a run stopper.
It's Jalen's sixth year with the Bengals, but it was
the first time he's played this season. Jalen, you moved

(10:30):
into the starting lineup today. I thought you played a
great game. How did you feel about your performance?

Speaker 6 (10:35):
I feel like I played good, but you know, things
feel a lot better when you win, So yeah, I
played good, but we gotta go back to thed onboard
get better.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
On Thursday night, let's talk about what the defense did well.
You held their offense to nineteen points. They scored a
defensive touchdown. That's two weeks in a row now where
it's been twenty or less. Do you see significant progress
on the defensive side.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
Of the ball. I feel like we've been actually getting better.
Every every week we make getting better.

Speaker 6 (11:01):
But like I said, we still gotta so much more
to improve. So we all just gotta, like I said,
get back to the d on board, look all the mistakes,
and just get better.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
It seemed like the one thing the Patriots did that
hurts you guys was find their tight ends over the
middle of the field. Anything stand out from your perspective
on those.

Speaker 6 (11:18):
Plays, not that I can say right now. I just
had to look at the film again and then go
from there.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
I gotta pick six defensive score from Geno Stone and
gave the team a ten to nothing lead. What was
your view of that play?

Speaker 4 (11:32):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (11:32):
It was turned up.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
Boy, gotta pick six.

Speaker 6 (11:35):
It's none better than that. But like I said, we
gotta keep their foot on the next and don't let
them in the next level.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
Time.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
Guys gotta stop late in the game to give the
offense a chance to pull it out. I mean, the
Patriots did score three, but they weren't able to score
a touchdown to pull away. Is that progress because there
have been some games this year where you needed to
get that stop late and couldn't quite do it.

Speaker 6 (11:57):
Prodst for sure, but that's not the standard that does
not even give him three. So, like I said, you
got to go back to the dram more.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Just get better, get better.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
How much did you enjoy having this opportunity today?

Speaker 5 (12:10):
I meant everything so mean, man, I ain't been out
there in a very long time, so I just appreciate
my brother's always holding me down.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
Yeah, Jalen, congrats on a great game.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
Appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Bengals leading tackler was rookie linebacker Barrett Carter with sixteen
Gino Stone had thirteen tackles and his second career picked
six on special teams. It was quite a day for
Evan McPherson, who kicked a fifty four yard field goal
in the first quarter and a team record sixty three
yarder in the second. Evan shared the old record of

(12:43):
fifty nine yards with Cade York. Kevin McPherson made team
history today with a sixty three yard field goal. It
was the exact set of circumstances that you've talked about
before for getting an opportunity like that final play of
the half sixty plus rip from sixty three.

Speaker 7 (13:01):
Yeah, you know, I felt like I felt like we
had a good chance to get a shot there at
the end of the half. And you never You're never
out of it. And that's kind of what I learned
throughout the years is never take time off and never
let your mind wander, because in a blink of an
eye you can be thrown out there for a long
field goal at the end of the half. And so
I think we did a good job stand in the

(13:23):
game and not just flicking forward to halftime, and we
executed really well snaphol kick, everybody blocked really well.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
And yeah, you know, it's.

Speaker 7 (13:32):
Just a lot of fun to get to go out
there and a tempt those and I'm just really happy
that this one worked out for us.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
There aren't that many members of the sixty yard club
in the NFL. Maybe a couple does, and I don't know,
but it's not a huge list. How significant is it
to have that one extra yard from your previous long
of fifty nine.

Speaker 7 (13:49):
Yeah, you know, I've always thought about it. It would
be cool to get one on the other side of
the field one day, And you know, I'm just blessed
to be putting that situation, that opportunity. The coaches trust
me to go out there and make it, and I'm
just glad that, you know, they have that trust in me.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
A little extra special after the sixty seven yard er
that was good but didn't count at Green Bay.

Speaker 7 (14:12):
Yeah, yeah, you know, I always enjoy like I feel
like my rookie yar, I enjoyed the fifty plus attempts
and now it's kind of switched to like, sixty plus
is a lot of fun. Just go out there and
swing away and kind of see what happens. And I
feel like when we go out there, we're looked at
to make those kicks, and so, you know, I felt
confident going into it, and with how we've been hitting

(14:35):
it in practice and the operation and everything's going. So
it felt good running out of the field for that one.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
The NFL record is sixty eight. Now, yeah, how long
would that have been good from? But the way you
struck that ball.

Speaker 7 (14:47):
Man we needed the track man and how they used
to have to set up good from, I'm not sure.
I think maybe cut another five on it or so.
It's hard to really tell, but i'd say maybe.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
Not another five.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
I think you're right.

Speaker 3 (15:05):
Congrats on the record, Thank you.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
The loss drop the Bengals to three and eight. They're
three back in the AFC North with six to go,
and there's now a tie for first place in the division.
Since the Ravens won and the Steelers lost, Baltimore and
Pittsburgh are six and five. Now, time for my conversation
with head coach Zach Taylor. Zach, the defense allowed nineteen

(15:30):
points today, it was twenty last week. What progress do
you see on that side of the.

Speaker 8 (15:34):
Ball they're finding rhythm, you know, it's they're believing in
each other, what we're doing, finding ways to get stops.
Guys are stepping up and making plays. I've loved the
communication from that group, and they're starting to get more
and more confidence.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
You know.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
That's just that's how the world works. To have some success,
you get more confidence.

Speaker 8 (15:51):
There's a lot of things today I think that'll continue
to build towards that as well, and which we'll build on.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
That moving forward.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
Jalen Davis has been part of this team for most
of your tenure. He got an opportunity to play extended
snaps today and I thought he played, well, what did
you think of Jayleen?

Speaker 8 (16:06):
He's not afraid to go make a play, you know,
and that's what you saw. He went after him, got
a sack, did a great job fitting in the big
gaff and getting a holding penalty one time that set
him back, and so you just you see things. He's
a competitor, he's got a high football a Q. He's
not afraid to go make a play and I saw
that from JD today.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
I think there was a stretch where New England had
ten straight plays in goal to go situation. So inside
the ten where the defense did not allow them to
get in the end zone. What kind of a building
block is that.

Speaker 8 (16:35):
That's character. I mean, that's character and toughness and guys
just doing their job and then knowing that other guys
are going to do theirs. And that's exactly how he
pointed out, And proud of those guys that gave us
a lot of momentum, you know, and they stopped him
on the two and we didn't go score, but we
were able to get the ball out to the forty
and try to flip the field. And so again I
was proud of the effort on those that drive you're

(16:57):
talking about with the defensive guys.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
Chase Brown ran for more than a high yards today.
I don't think I'm back at top sixty against the
Patriots defense this year. Do you feel like the running
game now you can safely say it's more or less
turn the corner and it's pretty reliable.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
I do.

Speaker 8 (17:10):
Again, that speaks to the confidence. I think the whole
group's got confidence in the run game. The guys up
front are really coming off the ball, doing a great
job of their communication backs, understanding where we're going to
fit these balls. The tight ends are doing excellent job
on the perimeter. Receivers are bought in as well, and
so we do have a lot of confidence a run
game right now, and we'll continue lean on.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
You didn't have Jamar Chase, and you lost T Higgins
late in this game. Mitch Tinsley caught a touchdown pass.
Andre yoc Bosch made some big catches. But how difficult
is it offensively when you're essentially down to a couple
of wide receivers.

Speaker 8 (17:38):
That's just that's the way it works. You got to
find a way. No one wants to hear excuses. You
got to put those guys in a position to be successful.
I think their position coaches have been an excellent job
preparing the next man up, problem solving on the move
there as guys were playing a different position for the
first time in a run, concepts that probably hadn't practiced.
I thought our execution was still really at a high
level and gave us a chance to win a game.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
To consider the possibility of Joe Burrow playing this week,
how quickly would you like to have a decision made
for the Thursday night game against Baltimore.

Speaker 8 (18:07):
Yeah, there's got to be clarity. You know in terms
of just we're not physically practicing, we're walking through and stuff.
But you'd like the quarterback Steff Clarity, so Sooner wrote that.

Speaker 1 (18:15):
Later, appreciate you time.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
Yep, thank you. Dam up.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
Next a Thanksgiving night road game in Baltimore with the
possibility of Joe Burrow returning to action. The Ravens open
as a seven point favorite. The Bengals Booth Podcast is

(18:41):
a new level, and by Kettering Health, the best care
for the best fans. Kettering Health is the official healthcare
provider of the Bengals. Now time for the radio guys
recap lap ice defensive progress. I wish it were resulting
in wins. We all do. But in the last week

(19:01):
the defense allowed twenty to the Steelers and nineteen today
against the Patriots. Obviously, I am subtracting the defensive touchdowns
that the other teams have scored. That's really what the
last six games are about, right, trying to make significant
improvement on that side of the ball.

Speaker 4 (19:17):
No question about it, Dan, And you know, I remember
back in the day when I was playing football, Paul
Brown his magic number was seventeen. If you can hold
the opponent to seventeen points or less in the National
Football League, that should be a win, that should be
a victory. And I do think they are playing a
better defense. I do think they are improving. Other miles

(19:38):
to go before they rest. Yeah, I mean, they're not
there yet, but they're playing much better defense than they were,
you know, earlier in the season. The biggest problem that
the team has is inconsistency of performance from each phase
of the game. Offense plays well, defense doesn't. Defense plays well,
offense doesn't know teams isn't supporting you know either well enough.

(20:04):
Although I do think that Darren Simmons group is playing
probably the best of the three, the most consistent, and
I'm not surprised. I think he's one of the best coaches.
It's not the best special teams coach in the National
Football League and he's assistant head coach with the Bengals
for a reason.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
The defense stopped the run pretty well throughout the game.
They were unbelievable in the low red zone. The Patriots
ran ten plays in a row without being able to
get in so that was stellar. On the other hand,
tight ends over the middle of the field have just
haunted this team. Not just this year, but it seems
like for several What is the problem with defending tight

(20:41):
ends in the middle of the field.

Speaker 4 (20:42):
I wish I hadn't answer to that question. That's a
million dollar question, Dan, You've hit on it. I mean,
it's just and like you said, tight ends for the
last few years. It's not just this season, not just
this game, not for just half of this game, not
for just the end of the football game. Over and
over again, the middle of the football field has been
wide open, you know. I mean, you can just cherry

(21:03):
pick big plays in the middle of the football field
if you're a tight end, or if you're a wide
receiver running back out of the backfield. Everybody kind of
works their way back, migrates their way back to the
middle of the football field, and they get rewarded with
huge plays. I don't know if it's your technique is
not good enough and fundamentals aren't good enough, or if
you're just blowing coverages. It could be a combination of both,

(21:25):
but I tend to think I lean toward blowing coverages.
I think that guys are too wide open.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
Joe Flacco by and large has been great since being
picked up by the Bengals, but the last couple of
weeks haven't been as good. Do you think the shoulder
is giving him trouble? Obviously he made one awful decision
today on the pick six.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (21:45):
I love Joe Flacco. I think we just came from
a presser that Joe Flacco addressed the mass media, and
he never gives excuses. You know, He's adverse to blaming
it on something, whether it's his dislo kid index finger.
You know, you're a quarterback and your index finger is
garled up and dislocated, that could be alarming, you know,

(22:07):
But he just kind of like, you know, they come
out and put it back in a place. And I'm
sure there was some pain there when he was releasing
the football, but he's still threw with pretty good accuracy. Now,
there were more throws in this football game that were
off and significantly off than in prior games, and I
think that is due to due to the injury. But
credit him, he wasn't going to come out of that

(22:27):
football game. He came out for one snap and Jake
Browning goes one for one and has a perfect quarterback
rating with his completion to Tinsley. So you know, it is,
it is what it is, and I you know, I
think the thing again, the thing about Joe Flacco is
he's a man's man in terms of look, I got
to play better. Everybody has to play better for us

(22:50):
to win football games down the stretch.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
The Bengals didn't have Jamar Chase today because spit happened
last week. Pittsburgh go'll get him back on Thursday night
in Baltimore, but I can't imagine and the t Higgins
will play. He suffered a concussion late in the game.
Maybe if he had a whole week he'd be back,
but I'd be shocked if he were able to come
back on a short week on Thursday night.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
Yeah, I'm in the same school. I thought you are there, Dan.
You know, concussions and no joke, I had a couple
of those as well, And you know they really there
was no real concussion protocol and Blue ten and all
that sort of thing back in the seventies. And I
do think they've made significant advancements for player safety in
that regard. But man, just you know, wouldn't it be

(23:30):
great to have Jamar, Chase and t Higgins playing the
same football game with their quarterback Joe Burrow? The Big Three?
Have the Big Three go out against the Baltimore Ravens
on Thanksgiving?

Speaker 2 (23:41):
You know that would be like, how about that?

Speaker 4 (23:44):
Go out and enjoy a nice football game where those
guys are all making plays and come out with a
victory against the Baltimore Ravens.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
Go home and throw it on some turkey.

Speaker 1 (23:53):
I think Zach Taylor was very close to letting Joe
Burrow play this week. Do you think he plays on
Thursday night in Baltimore?

Speaker 4 (24:02):
I agree with you on both counts. I think he
was very close to letting Joe play this week. I
think that, you know, it had to be one hundred percent,
not ninety nine point five, not ninety nine point nine.
Had to be one hundred percent. There had to be
if he found himself in trouble on the football field,
he had to be able to move well enough to
protect himself and not subject himself to additional injury. So

(24:25):
I think that was the final determining factor of him
not playing. You know, in this football game. But I
do think he will play against the Baltimore Raves, and
I have a sneaky suspicions going to play pretty well.
I mean, he's beside himself patrolling that sideline. He is
so competitive. I mean, he just doesn't know what to
do with himself, and he is giving Joe Flacko good

(24:45):
information about, you know, what the opponent's trying to do
in terms of coverages and taking players away and some
of the receiving the best routes of receivers run taken
away from them and neutralizing things. But it would be very,
very celebratory, I think to get Joe, to get Joe
Burrow back in action against a division rival on Thanksgiving

(25:06):
under the lights at pay Corse Stadium on national television,
I think that'll be big in Baltimore, in Baltimore, I
wish it was here in Baltimore under the lights.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
It'll be big time.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
We saw Bengals history today, a sixty three yard field
goal from Moneymack, the first sixty plus field goal in
franchise history. It's not a super long list of guys
that have made field goals in the NFL. From sixty plus.
We knew he could do it nice to see him
come through it is.

Speaker 4 (25:32):
He has got a howartzer hanging off of that right
hip man. It is amazing when he strikes that football,
it is it's thumped. I mean it is lit up,
and not only for distance, but he gets that quick
elevation that he gets because of his leg strength. I
mean he takes it a long way and he takes
it very very high as well. So I think he's

(25:54):
the best in the National Football League, I really do.
I think that his kickoffs, he can do a lot
of things the football. He's got like a magic toe
or magic foot hanging off to that right leg. He
is a very unique player and a total team player.
He knows what his role is and you know he
doesn't try to do anything to step out of line

(26:15):
in terms of that role.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
So the Bengals tried to snap an eight game losing
streak today. They came up six point six point short,
and now they will try to snap what I believe
is a six game winning streak next week. Baltimore hasn't
lost since starting one in five. I guess they've won
five straight. So two of the best games in the
entire NFL. Last year with the two games between Cincinnati

(26:37):
and Baltimore. They were both thrillers. Unfortunately the Ravens won
them both. And here we go again with a Thanksgiving
night game. That's why the NFL put this game on
Thanksgiving Night going into the season. They thought, you know what,
those are two of the best games in the league
last year. Let's put one of those on Thanksgiving Night.

Speaker 4 (26:53):
Couldn't agree with you more, Dan, I mean, the league
knows what they're doing. Roger Goodell is a wizard, you know,
in turn of being able to handle negotiations with the
networks and put the National Football League in the best
light possible. And I mean the fans just I mean
their week is built around getting ready for the next

(27:14):
game with their professional football team. If they're in a
market one of the thirty two big city markets in
the National Football League, you know, if not, they've still
got their fan bases for sure. So it is, it's
a celebration. It's almost like watching a football game on
Sunday is like almost like another national holiday. But there's
too many of those to consider it that. But I

(27:36):
think that the NFL couldn't have made a better decision
and be in a better spot than to have the
Bengals Ravens Aft North Division bloodbath on Thanksgiving night.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
Look forward to spending my Thanksgiving with you, my friend.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
I do the same, Dan, no doubt about it.

Speaker 4 (27:54):
Well, what do you say to Like we talked about
the Bengals beat the Ravens.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
We go pound some turkey man or crabcakes or crabcakes.
Nothing wrong with those as well.

Speaker 1 (28:06):
That's a wrap on the Patriots game. Now time for
this week's fun Facts conversation, where you get to know
the person under the pads. Time for some fun facts
with offensive lineman Dylan Fairchild, from Coming, Georgia, about forty
minutes north of Atlanta, the birthplace of country music stars
Zach Brown, among others. Describe growing up in Coming and

(28:29):
some of the things you enjoyed doing.

Speaker 3 (28:30):
As a kid.

Speaker 9 (28:31):
I just, you know, I loved I've been playing sports
since I was six years old. That took most of
my time, I'd say that, And obviously just elementary school
and high school and you know whatnot. But I love fishing.
I love being outside in the woods. That's probably like
the number one place I go. I love camping, just
being out there, like just use your peace of mind

(28:52):
and that was like my favorite thing to do, just
in like when I had downtime.

Speaker 3 (28:56):
So absolutely, just being.

Speaker 1 (28:58):
Outside excellence as a high school wrestler is a big
part of your bio. It's a sport that's not for everybody.
Why did you enjoy it so much?

Speaker 9 (29:08):
I just love the grit. You know, it's a gritty sport.
It's a difficult thing to do. I didn't love it
every day, but some of those days, like I remember,
like I you know, there were Sundays every Sunday, my
dad would take me to go to my gym and wrestle,
and just I that was one of those days. We're
growing up, Like I didn't really want to go on Sunday,

(29:28):
But now that I look back, I realized, like those
Sundays were Obviously we're playing athletics on Sundays now, so
you know, like it, I think that kind of just
like put discipline into me even more because you know,
there's nothing better than just sitting at home chilling on Sunday.
But when you're over there grinding and stuff like it
just really put me put some core values in my

(29:49):
in my brain and in my body and just you know,
help me develop as a person.

Speaker 3 (29:54):
The most.

Speaker 1 (29:55):
You were an undefeated state champion as a junior and
as a senior. What was your fast pin?

Speaker 9 (30:01):
Oh gosh, I don't even know. I think it was
like four seconds. This guy like he just rolled over.
I was like, are you serious? No, it was, it was.
It was pretty ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (30:12):
I was. I was shocked. I didn't even He just
immediately shook hands and basically laid down.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
I was like, wow, this is crazy.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
Be nice if defensive lineman did that, No, that'd be great.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
He's so great.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
On the flip side. Did anybody give you a really
good match in those last two years?

Speaker 3 (30:31):
Oh?

Speaker 9 (30:31):
Absolutely, there was a couple of great guys. There's a
kid from Central I ends up forgetting his name Central Forscyth.
It's a really tough kid, like impossible to try to
turn and pin. My hardest match ever was a kid
named Tamari Fox.

Speaker 3 (30:45):
Uh.

Speaker 9 (30:45):
He went to UNC North Carolina and played I believe
d n there and it was just a stud athlete
like he gave me, by.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
Far the hardest match I remember walking away from. I
ended up losing.

Speaker 9 (30:58):
I walked away and I wasn't even upset because I
just I gave everything I had. I threw up profusely
in the bathroom and was like, I knew I emptied
the tank. So that was by far, Like that was
one of my most thrilling matches, even though I lost.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
So it was just fun.

Speaker 1 (31:18):
Sounds like something you grew from.

Speaker 3 (31:19):
Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (31:20):
No, I knew, like I've been training for him for
months and months and months at a time. And after
the match, I mean I was gonna be so I
pre pre match and pre tournament. It was a state tournament,
so I was like, I wanted to win really bad,
and I thought I'd be really upset, but I wasn't
because I knew, like I had given everything and I
learned a lesson that day, like when you give everything

(31:42):
you've got, like it's everything you got, you know, so
win or lose, you at least can go to sleep
knowing everything you gave everything you had to try to
get a win.

Speaker 3 (31:52):
You know that day. So sometimes it just doesn't turn
out in your favor.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
We're chatting a Dyllan fair Child. You're from Georgia and
you went to Georgia. You played at the University of
Was that the dream growing up?

Speaker 3 (32:02):
I think so?

Speaker 9 (32:03):
Yeah, I think so I knew I honestly, like, I
didn't know what I was gonna do. I thought I
was gonna wrestle for a long time, and I thought
I was gonna play football. Then I thought I was
gonna wrestle. Like I was kind of back and forth.
But it was always a Georgia fan. I was always
watching those national championships when they were in it, and
just somehow it didn't pull through. I'm not gonna I'm
not gonna talk about it, but no, but I was

(32:26):
definitely a Georgia fan my whole life.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
My dad raised me a Georgia fan.

Speaker 9 (32:30):
We always pulled for the Dogs, and I just knew
that was the place to go. You know, it was
the hardest place I could possibly go to, other than
one more that I'm not gonna mention this happens to.

Speaker 3 (32:40):
Be our neighbor.

Speaker 9 (32:41):
But you know, those two programs are by far the
best programs you know at the time, and we're the
toughest programs, had the best recruits and so but it
was a no brainer for me. If I was gonna
challenge myself, that's the place to do it.

Speaker 1 (32:56):
You spend four years with the Bulldogs, you started your
last two who was the toughest person you faced, whether
it was a teammate that you were facing it practice,
or an opponent.

Speaker 9 (33:06):
I'd probably say Jalen Carter was probably the toughest dude.
There's a couple of guys. I mean, there's an endless
list of guys I could name that were on the
team that were there were dogs, you know, I mean,
all of them ended up being first rounders. DeVante Whyatt,
Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis. There's a lot of guys, and
they were all good at different things. I think overall,
just talent wise, I think Jaalen Carter was probably the

(33:27):
most talented.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
Guy for sure.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
We learned from your college teammate of Marius Mims, that
your nickname at Georgia was Pickle. What is the origin
story of the pickle nickname?

Speaker 9 (33:38):
Mims was the one who started it. I don't even know.
I think I honestly couldn't tell you. I have no idea.
I think Mems this one day said it and it
just stuck, and then all the boys, all the guys
started calling calling me Pickle, and it just we.

Speaker 3 (33:54):
Just wrote it out from there on and that was it.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
Since Mims is in the building here, has that nickname
Mike rated to Cincinnati.

Speaker 9 (34:01):
It has with memes. Yeah, I think I'll always be
pickled to memes. But I don't think some of these
older guys are going to buy into that.

Speaker 1 (34:08):
You're a twenty two year old rookie and a married man.
You got married about a month before the NFL draft.
Why did you and Elizabeth decide to get married at
such an early age.

Speaker 3 (34:18):
I think it was just the way I grew up.

Speaker 9 (34:21):
My parents were divorced, and I just I love God
and I love her, and I knew that she has
led me to success in ways that you know, it's
hard for me to you know, reciprocate, and like she's
just given me a piece to be able to come
here every single day and do my job and fully

(34:41):
focus on my job. And that's really what I want,
you know. And I love her the most out of
any you know, anything and anyone other than the Lord above.
And I knew that we were going to pursue, continue
to pursue God, and continue to pursue each other.

Speaker 3 (34:55):
So there was really no.

Speaker 9 (34:57):
Questions, you know, There was just that the answer was
we wanted to get married, and it was quick.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
It was a free wedding.

Speaker 9 (35:04):
So we actually didn't go like we didn't Elope, but
it wasn't like a full wedding, so it was It's
pretty cool. Yeah, it was. I'm glad that we did it.
She's glad we did it, and I wouldn't want it
any other way.

Speaker 1 (35:17):
We're chatting with Dylan Fairchild. So a month after that,
really big day came the other one, when you were
selected in the third round by the Bengals. In this
year's draft, described that entire day. I know, it can
be really stressful leading up to getting the phone call
from Zach Taylor.

Speaker 3 (35:32):
No, it was extremely stressful. I was. I was really
The third round was where we were helping me, my agent,
just my whole family.

Speaker 9 (35:40):
You know, obviously you want to continue to do better
and better, but you know, that was where we had
hopefully predicted where I would go, and I did not
know it would be at Cincinnati. I had no idea.
This was one of the last places I had on
my mind of where I thought.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
I would be too.

Speaker 9 (35:54):
I just we had a couple of meetings, but it
just wasn't, you know, like it wasn't just wasn't what
I thought, you know, And so there were some picks,
you know, at some times where they slipped by, and
I was like, oh, you know, we may be waiting
another day. And then my friend started ringing, and it's
just the whole day was just like that was probably

(36:14):
the most stressed out of thing I've ever been because
there was nothing, nothing I could do. Nothing's in your control,
you know, like it's all in God's hands, it's all
in the coach's hands, in the in the owner's hands,
so there's nothing that you can really do about it.

Speaker 3 (36:28):
Be so I just sit and wait, and that feeling
is kind of scary, you.

Speaker 9 (36:31):
Know, you just sitting there waiting to get a phone call.
But and when I did, I I couldn't even believe it.
Like I just answered the phone and I felt so robotic.
I was like hello, you know, and so it was
it was really a huge blessing, and like I just
you know, I was so shocked and just couldn't believe it.
And I was just immediately so blessed. And you know,
you're nervous because you don't you know, you'd love to

(36:54):
be anywhere on any NFL team, but it's scary, you know,
growing up in Georgia going to georgiad move literally completely
across the entire country coast to coast, So it's really
cool being like I still on the East coast, just
being close to home, Like it's a seven hour drive,
which is and I love the drive too, So it
was really awesome to just it's a huge blessing. You know,

(37:15):
it was immediate blessing. Just my whole family and my
mom started crying.

Speaker 3 (37:19):
It was awesome. It was awesome.

Speaker 1 (37:21):
That stress will be topped when you and Elizabeth have
your first child, but that's still to come. When you
came to town after the draft, he lived with Ted
Karras for a little while. Yeah, what was your reaction
when he made that offer?

Speaker 3 (37:33):
I was, I was kind of surprised. Most guys aren't
as just charismatic as him, you know.

Speaker 9 (37:41):
I mean he's extremely just like a person of such
high character, and he's just a like a rich person,
you know, like when it's just like like almost like
a rich cake, like when he's just got so many
layers to his personality, so many layers to just the
guy that he is. And when he did I was
just you know, straight up in the top of the
cake with him. You know, there's No, there's nobody liked ed.

(38:03):
So when he did that, I was just extremely you know,
honored and blessed and I just appreciated that the most.

Speaker 3 (38:10):
My wife made sure.

Speaker 9 (38:11):
That we got them a nice basket to some of
some chocolates and stuff, so it was really nice of him.

Speaker 3 (38:17):
Yeah, that was That was awesome.

Speaker 1 (38:19):
We're having this visit about midway through your rookie year.
How would you describe your first NFL season to day.

Speaker 9 (38:25):
I'm just trying to be a sponge, you know, and
just absorb, absorb, absorb all the information and knowledge I
can and then on Sunday just letting it fly, you know,
just letting it go. Treating every day as if I
have nothing to lose, you know, and that's the only
way I know how to do it, and just going,
you know, balls of the wall. There's no other way
to put it. It's just hard every day, you know,

(38:47):
just go hard every day. And yeah, that's really all
I It's all I do is I try to look
forward every single day all right.

Speaker 1 (38:55):
Time for a few wild card topics now with Dylan Fairchild,
who is your all time favorite athlete in any sport?

Speaker 3 (39:02):
And why I'd probably have to say Nate Dia is
my favorite. Yeah, you know, I don't I don't know
if you know. Is that like a UFC guy fighter?

Speaker 9 (39:11):
Yeah, yeah, he uh, he's just a dog like he's
not He's just one of those guys. It's like he
doesn't ever stop, Like he just doesn't quit ever.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
You know.

Speaker 9 (39:22):
It's they say Nat Diez doesn't lose fights. He just
runs out of time, you know. Like he he's just
one of those guys that nobody wants to fight because
he's just a dog like he has no inch of
care in his body and he's willing to put it
all out there on the line every time. And I
feel the same way. You know, I don't think I
do what he does. But he's a little he's just
a couple of steps above us.

Speaker 3 (39:43):
But he's probably my favorite guy that I look to.
Is just like inspiration.

Speaker 9 (39:48):
Like when things don't go well, Like he's a nasty dude,
you know, and things don't go well for him, you know,
it might be vulgar, but he gives him the middle
finger and like he just keeps going, you know. And
that's I sway my father raised me. That's the way
that I've I've been you know, taught my whole life
and I just love he embodies that.

Speaker 3 (40:06):
So he's probably my favorite for sure.

Speaker 1 (40:09):
Speaking of UFC guys, we saw footage of you wrestling
with UFC champ Sean Strickland in the off season. How
did that come about? And did the Bengals object when
they saw the footage they reposted it. I guess not.

Speaker 3 (40:25):
No, I was really it's not Honestly, I was nervous.

Speaker 9 (40:27):
I was kind of like, like, what did I just do?
But no, everybody was cool about it. Everybody loved it
and that was good. It was all clean and fun,
so that was a good thing. But no, we were
just in Vegas and we were there with my agent
actually put a little event on and it was awesome.
Joe Panosi's a guy. But yeah, we were out there

(40:49):
in Vegas and again like we were just gonna watch
a fight and like just having fun hanging out. And
he had the idea to go to the UFC Performance Institute,
which is a huge complex for all the fighters and
any fighter can show up at any time. So he
happened to be there and we walked in and he
said a couple cuss words at us, and so he

(41:09):
said who wants to wrestle, So he was.

Speaker 3 (41:11):
He is as advertised, I'll tell you that. So no,
it was really cool though. He was really cool about
it too. It was it was, It was really cool.
It was awesome.

Speaker 1 (41:20):
Since you're still basically a newlywed, do you and Elizabeth
watch TV shows together? And if so, what are some
of your favorites.

Speaker 3 (41:30):
We used to watch a lot more.

Speaker 9 (41:33):
We've gotten more into movies now because we just don't
have a lot of time to watch TV shows.

Speaker 3 (41:37):
So we're like big movie people. We just watched Narnia h.

Speaker 9 (41:40):
Two nights ago because it's been so long since I've
seen that movie. So she wanted to watch it, so
we watched it. But I'll put her on some Quentin
Tarantino films. You know, I'm a big movie guy. I
love movies, so I love Tarantino's work. You know, I
love just a lot of different directors. I try to
go by director. You know, Spielberg is another good one.

(42:03):
You know, just try to like show were like really
good film.

Speaker 1 (42:06):
You know.

Speaker 9 (42:07):
I appreciate that her family is also huge in the
film industry and they make movies all the time. So
it's really interesting. Now her mom decided not to. She
wanted to go into service. So they're amazing people. And yeah, no,
we but our shows that we did well, I mean
I tried to get it or like Breaking Bad. She
didn't like it though, as I thought her it was

(42:29):
a great show, but she didn't like it. We watched
the one hundred. The Walking Dead was a good one
that we finished. That was so long it took us
a year to finish it. So it was a long show.

Speaker 1 (42:41):
Breaking Bad's my all time favorite show. So you have
excellent taste. Pulp fiction, kill Bill. What's your favorite to
Quentin Tarantino.

Speaker 9 (42:51):
And Glorious Bastards. Probably, Yeah, that's my favorite one. It's
just a great movie. It's a solid movie.

Speaker 3 (42:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (42:58):
The opening scene with the people under the floorboards. Man,
that one gives me.

Speaker 3 (43:02):
Chills does every time.

Speaker 9 (43:04):
I know it's he does very well just describing almost
putting that type of anger in you.

Speaker 3 (43:11):
As the whole movie goes on and it's a it's
a glory movie. It's a crazy movie.

Speaker 9 (43:15):
But you know, he does a really good job of
again like just making you feel those emotions and as
the movie goes on.

Speaker 1 (43:22):
Final fun fact for Dylan Fairchild, this one's a little
bit deep. If you could meet anybody in history, living
or deceased, who would that person be?

Speaker 9 (43:33):
I go Jesus, absolutely, yeah, no, I would. I'd love
to meet Jesus. Hopefully that's where I'm going, you know,
one day. But that was absolutely who I would go
to meet for sure.

Speaker 1 (43:45):
You know.

Speaker 9 (43:45):
I try to root myself in that and just ground
myself no matter what happens, good or bad, and just
live live that life, you know, And I do a
better job talking about it than being about it, you know,
just being honest with you and fall short like everybody else.
But again, like I just try to live with that
type of love you know, in my heart and just

(44:07):
love and forgive people. And that's just again, like my
wife does an amazing job of just bringing me back
to that base level every day.

Speaker 3 (44:16):
You know.

Speaker 9 (44:17):
She's absolutely the reason that I was brought back to
the Lord and she's my rock.

Speaker 3 (44:22):
And so yeah, no it it'd be Jesus for sure.

Speaker 1 (44:26):
This has been fun. Really appreciate your time. Best of
luck the rest of the year, sir.

Speaker 3 (44:30):
Thank you so much.
