(00:53):
quick reminder that you can have the latest edition of
this podcast delivered right to your phone, tablet, or computer
by subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. It's the greatest
thing since the Freak's List. Every year, sportswriter Bruce Feldman
from The Athletic comes out with a list of the
biggest athletic freaks in college football in terms of strength, speed,

(01:17):
and explosiveness. There's one hundred and one players on the list,
and the University of Cincinnati had three of them this year.
The only school with Moore was Penn State with five.
I mentioned the three Bearcats on ACTS a few days
ago and a Bengals fan named Chris McGill responded by
asking me how many current Bengals have been on the list?

(01:39):
A fun question, So I look back over the last
five years and the answer is nine. They are Dylan Fairchild,
Chris Jenkins, PJ Jeweles Miles Murphy, andre Yosi Vash, DJ Turner,
Tyson Anderson, Desmond Ritter, and Jamar Chase. Seeing Pete Jay

(02:00):
Jewles was a bit of a surprise, but the biggest
surprise is that Shamar Stewart was not on the list.
They don't come much freakier than the Bengals first round
draft pick. Now time for radio replays from the City
of the Brotherly Shove. Good evening, everybody in Greetings from Philadelphia,

(02:21):
where tonight it's a matchup between the defending Super Bowl
champion and a team with Super Bowl aspirations. It's the
Philadelphia Eagles against the Cincinnati Bengals, and it is time
for the pig skin to fly. Here at Lincoln Financial Field,
three receivers left, one out to the right. The receiver
to the right is Chase. Here's a short pass caught

(02:43):
by Tanner Hudson lunging toward the goal line. Touchdown Bengals.
Tanner Hudson caught it at the three, lowered his shoulder
pads and got the football over the goal line. Ball
is inside the one and the Eagles will line up
in the tush push formation. McKee gets shoved toward the

(03:04):
goal line and he's in. It's a Philadelphia touchdown. Burrow
waiting for the shotgun. Snap two y two formation looks left,
throws left cock by Chase escapes a tackle racing down
the sideline. Touchdown Nie Bengals. Chamarge. Chase picking up where
he left off last year when he led the NFL

(03:26):
with seventeen touchdowns, and Kee Lee, Ringo's athletic supporter is
sitting on the playing surface. It is third down and
goal from the seven. McKee will look to throw his
pass into the end zone, caught for an easy touchdown
by a Nias Smith. He had a couple of yards
of separation. Way too easy in that part of the field.

(03:48):
McKee waits in the gun. He has the ball. He's
looking left now throws to the right. Touchdown Wow. Near
the forward right pylon. Darius Cooper calls in a perfect
throat oh from Tanner McKee.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Boy Tanner McKee is on fire.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Thompson Robinson hands it off and shun Derrick Powell bounces
it wide to the right and goes into the end zone,
standing up for the Philadelphia touchdown. Second down and eight,
Ridder fakes a hand off from the goal line, launches
a deep ball. He's got to make it open. Jamoy
Mays makes the catch. Bear Cat to bear cat and

(04:28):
Mays has tackled at the forty two of Philadelphia. From
the twelve yard line of Philadelphia, Ridder, looking left, floats
it into the end zone for Hudson Tanner. Hudson comes
down with a football. It's a touchdown, his second of
the game as Desmond. Ridder timed a nice touch throw

(04:48):
right on the sideline in the end zone and Hudson
got his feet down for the score.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
He did, I mean the right foot was marvelous. The
way he got that right foot down. I mean man
tap tap.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
Fourth down and nine. The Bengals a thrown twenty one
two deep safeties for Philly ritter back to throw passes
to the left and it's incomplete intended for Rashad Owens.
No penalty, flag down, and Philadelphia is going to win
the game. The final score Philly thirty four, Cincinnati twenty seven.

(05:20):
Here's the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good
was the play of the first team offense. Two series,
two touchdowns, a total of fifteen plays for one hundred
and forty six yards. That's nine point seven per snap.
Joe Burrow went nine for ten for one hundred and
twenty three yards, with a twelve yard touchdown past the
Tanner Hudson and a thirty six yard score to Jamar Chase.

(05:45):
This just in, Burrow and the Bengals offense are good.
The bad was the play of the defense. Even though
Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, AJ Brown, and the other offensive
starters did not play for Philly, the Eagles still run
up four hundred and thirty two yards of offense three
hundred passing and one hundred and thirty two rushing and

(06:07):
backup quarterback Tanner McKee picked them apart, going twenty for
twenty five for two hundred and fifty two yards, with
two touchdown throws, one touchdown run, and a passer rating
of one thirty five point three. Again, that's Tanner McKee.
Then there's the ugly penalties committed on special teams. A

(06:30):
seventy two yard kick return by Gary Brightwell was wiped
out by holding on cam Grandy Djivy lined up off
sides on a fifty five yard field goal attempt. The
kick was no good, but the penalty helped extend the
drive and the Eagles eventually kicked a much shorter field goal. Then,

(06:51):
on another field goal attempt, McKinley Jackson was called for
roughing the snapper. You don't hear that one every day.
On the very next play, Philadelphia scored a touchdown to
take a seventeen point lead. Let's hear what Zach Taylor
had to say as he spent a few minutes with
Dave Lapham after the game.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
First of all, coach, give us you know your overall
impressions about how you feel like your football team went
out and performed in Week one in the preseason.

Speaker 4 (07:17):
Yeah, not good.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Enough.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
That's a team loss right there. And there were some
silly mistakes we made that contributed straight to the seven
points just on gimmes, you know, on field goal alone,
lining up off side in the center, that's seven points.
And it was a seven point ball game.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
You know.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
We gave him shortfield on interception, gave him short field
on a punt return, had a kickoffer negated on a
long run because of walking the back that had nothing
to do with Philly led us to a loss, and
we can't let it happen again.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
You mentioned one of the one of the big keys
to the game if you was minimizing, trying to eliminate
or minimize penalties, and there seemed to be you know,
a few penalties obviously that were very crucial and harmful
during the course of the football game.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
Absolutely, and there to learn from it.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Now.

Speaker 4 (07:57):
We don't want to have to learn from whatever. We
have higher expectations than that. But again, if losing this
game is going to help us be better for going forward,
then that's a good thing. But I'm still disappointed because
there were some control balls there that this could have
had a different outcome.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
What do you think you did best in the football game.
When I know it's probably hard to, you know, reflect
back on everything right now. Everything's a big whirlwind right now.
But you know, as you look back, what do you
feel most proud about the football team accomplished.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
The second half?

Speaker 4 (08:28):
Proud of the momentum where we regain to get ourselves
back in a defense, got some stops, and the defense
isn't a tough spot because we're trying not to expose
our DV. We've got new coordinator in here, and so
we're trying to limit what we're doing, and so we're
expecting some guys to make some one on once, you know,
and there are some fifty to fifty plays that we
got to make. But I just thought, overall, the second half,
guys gave us some energy, gave us some momentum, gave

(08:49):
us a chance. We got the ball back down seven,
having been down by seventeen, and so I was pleased
with the fight they showed. There's That doesn't mean that
there's still not a lot to clean up though.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Individually. Can you think of does any any individual performance
that any player gave you out there tonight strike you
as that was pretty special?

Speaker 4 (09:07):
Those are the things we'll have to watch, I was spat.

Speaker 6 (09:09):
You know.

Speaker 4 (09:09):
The first team offense went down there and scored fourteen points,
and just about every play was a positive play to
my eye. So that's something we can continue to build
on as a team, and you know, we'll watch the
tape to get specific performances.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
Joe burrow and had one incompletion, and he threw two
touchdown passes and he had a third that was called back.
So obviously he executed a pretty high level for you.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
Didn't he Yeah, there's not much more to say about that.
He'll probably tell you'd rather go ten for ten, which,
of course, but pleased without how that group started.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
You mentioned that the second offensive group was having a
tough time finding its rhythm, finding its timing. Was that
Jake was it? Everybody was it a combination.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
They collective effort, and the quarterback leads to the group,
it's collective effort. There's some things he can't see even
happening as the play's developing, you know, right in front
of him that we got to be better at. So
definitely not putting it on any one person, this as
a whole. We got to be better with the second.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Group, the offensive line and defensive line, two areas where
you're looking for added depth, improve depth as a football team,
particularly in the interior. When you're looking at the guard
position in the defensive tackle position, how do you think
those positions performed for you to time?

Speaker 7 (10:17):
It was too hard to tell.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
Yeah, that's a tough one to tell right now. You know,
we'll go back and watch it and see where the
good was and the bad was and assess it from there.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
So anybody, any younger player, step out, you know, step up,
catch your eye, make a big play, do something that
was unexpected, or did exactly what they were supposed to
do snap after snap.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
I mean, it was good to see the big turnover
you know, that got us back in the scoring position
there that they had to a touchdown drive for us.
So that was that was a great turna momentum there.
So again it's there's some things obviously we have to
go back through and I don't want to hire somebody
good or bad until I've seen more of the tape.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
So now you get to travel back to Cincinnati. Obviously
it's a late night games, some some tough travel back
to Cincinnati and uh and get back at get get
back out in the practice field. What do you think
is the first thing you're going to try to address.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
We just have to be sharper from top to bottom,
you know. And the penalties really I think are the
biggest thing that we just changed that and those are
control balls on our end, that's nothing Philly did whatsoever.
Then we were likely had a chance to walk away
with a win. And so obviously there's there's some exes,
those things we got to clean up. There's some drops

(11:32):
we had during the game. Those are all things that
we're going to obviously talk about as the practice goes on.
But it was the silly mistakes that are completely unabordable
pre snap, immediately post that penalties that we can't tolerate.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
It's hard to pick somebody other than Burrow for the
Bengals star of the game, but tight end Tanner Hudson
deserves a shout out. With Mike is sick, he nursing
a sore hamstring and Noah Fant not up to speed
yet after just signing a few days ago, Hudson and
played nearly the entire game and finished with six catches
for sixty two yards, had a pair of touchdowns. I

(12:07):
spoke to him after the game. We're in the locker
room with Timmer Hudson six catches, sixty two yards and
a pair of touchdowns. Let's talk about the first You
got Joe Burrow in the first team offense out there
in the opening drive. I thought it was a great statement.
Did you march right down the field scored a touchdown
Andy with your twelve yard catch.

Speaker 6 (12:25):
Yeah, it felt good, you know, especially when you got
you know, Jamar and t outside of you and then
Dre inside. You know, that creates some space in the
field and took advantage of it and got the end zone.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
I don't know if the first team offense needs any
extra confidence at this point, but when you have two
drives and scored two touchdowns, if this kind of reinforced
the notion that this should be one of the higher
scoring teams in the NFL, doesn't.

Speaker 6 (12:49):
Yeah, I agree, But you know there's always stuff to
build on, always stuff to improve.

Speaker 7 (12:53):
Get in watch the film.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
And get better each and every day.

Speaker 6 (12:56):
You know, when you got playmakers like you know we
have on our team, expect to be one of the best,
if not the.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
Best, offensive in the league. So, you know, like I said,
just got to continue stag days.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
On that first touchdown, you looked like a swimmer trying
to touch the wall. Your your legs were off the ground,
ball fully extended. That was a great job to get
the ball of the line.

Speaker 7 (13:19):
Yeah, I appreciate it.

Speaker 6 (13:20):
Yeah, tried to, you know, try to keep the knees off.
I feel like most of the time people come down
and you know you need touches.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
Right before you extend.

Speaker 6 (13:26):
So just gotta try to straighten those legs out and
you can get the ball cost plane and.

Speaker 7 (13:30):
Then touchdown number two.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
We saw your footwork because that was a heck of
a right foot toe tap to get both feet down.

Speaker 7 (13:37):
Yeah. Yeah, I knew I was getting close.

Speaker 6 (13:39):
Does put it in really the only place that I
could catch it dropped in the bucket, So incredible throw by.

Speaker 7 (13:46):
Him, and then you know, just trusting me to get
the job done.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
On lie In.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
You made a bit of a statement in the last
week not to be forgotten for what you can contribute
to this offense.

Speaker 7 (13:56):
I don't know if I'm looking at it like that.
I'm more so just you know, control what I can.

Speaker 6 (14:00):
Control out there, trying to do my best each and
every day to show that you know I can and
have played well in.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
This league and we'll continue to appreciate your time.

Speaker 7 (14:09):
Congrats on a great game. Thank you.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
M up next a road game against the Washington Commanders
coming up a week from Monday. The Bengals Booth Podcast
is brought to you by pay Corps, Proud to be
the Bengals Official HR software provider, by Alta Fiber future
Proof Fiber Internet designed elevate your home, business and community
to a new level, and by Kettering Health, the best

(14:33):
care for the best fans. Kettering Health is the official
healthcare provider of the Bengals. Now time for the radio
guys recap. Let's start with the biggest positive, and that
would be the play of the first team offense. They
got to play at quarter. As Zach Taylor said, they
would couldn't have gone any better. Two drives, two touchdowns,
two TD passes for Joe Burrow.

Speaker 7 (14:55):
Yeah, I mean, honestly do astronomenal.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
I thought, you know, and you have a third touchdown
past of was nullified by penalty, So I mean he
went nine to ten, really ten for eleven. You know,
I guess you'd probably like to get that first pass
back and complete it and have a perfect day. I
mean the guy's quarterback ratings astronomical anyway. But that's the
way he plays the game. It doesn't matter if it's
a scrimmage, intersquad scrimmage, preseason game, regular season game, postseason game.

(15:23):
He takes every game in a serious mindset with a
desire to learn and improve and make his game better
every way he possibly can.

Speaker 7 (15:35):
He was well protected on those two drives.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
He was I thought, I thought the offensive line stepped
up and played well. I thought Dylan Fairchild had a
strong game. All the other guys who pretty much you know,
had been there, done that before, and let's be honest,
that the Philadelphia because didn't have their best group out there.
So you know, that's a factor when you get your
number one is working against guys that aren't their number one.

Speaker 7 (16:00):
As necessarily, you'd hope that things.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
Might end up slanting your way a little bit in
terms of performance and execution, But the fact is you
still have to go out there and do it. You
have to still have to go out there and perform
and play, and even if it's against Eric, you still
have to go out there and perform and play. So
I think overall that's probably the brightest spot I think
of the of the of the night is that Joe

(16:22):
Burrow and the two receivers were lights out, and that's
what they hope and expect and anticipate would be the
case every week this season.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
The biggest negative in my mind is the fact that
the first team defense gave up two scoring drives to
the Eagles second team offense and quarterback Tanner McKee. He
looked really good. Would you like to think that as
well as those guys have performed by and larger training camp,
they could have at least forced one point?

Speaker 7 (16:49):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
I think they're probably all kind of disappointed for sure
in the way that the way that the whole thing
evolved and unfolded to not make the Philadelphi Eagles punt
one time with Tana McGee at the quarterback position is
not something that I think they felt like it was
gonna be the case going into the game. But just

(17:11):
like we talked about, you know, with the offense on
a snap by snap basis, you have to go out.

Speaker 7 (17:16):
There and perform, and they didn't.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
They didn't step up enough, didn't make enough players when
the players were there to be made to get the
Eagles off the football field to disrupt their rhythm and timing,
and they just they just got into a mindset where
things were very very smooth, very very.

Speaker 7 (17:35):
Easy for them.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
A lot of yards after catch after contact, too many
penalties that that cost the defense. You give any professional
football player second opportunity, they're gonna make good on it,
and the Eagles did that tonight with regularity.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
Two touchdown catches for Tanner Hudson. We talked about it
during the game. They recently picked up no A paint.
They have Mike get SICKI and don't know exactly what
his role is going to be going forward, but he
certainly showed the win.

Speaker 7 (18:07):
Given opportunities, he can make plays. Yeah, that's that's a fact,
you know. And and uh, I think I think they
got to be proud of Tanner HUDs No.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
I mean, you know, he's a he's a guy that
you know, everybody just never considers him. And when they
start to make a player count at the position, you know,
it's always like, oh yeah, and then there's there's Tanner Hudson.

Speaker 7 (18:29):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
And they're going and pick up tight ends in the offseason,
right before the season starts, pick up another tight end.
But oh yeah, yeah, that's right. You know, we still
have Tanner Hudson. He goes out there and starts to
right and shows up, shows up and makes plays. Can't
ask for more than that. I mean, he uh, what
do you have five catches for like.

Speaker 7 (18:50):
Sixty some odd yards?

Speaker 1 (18:51):
I think it was six catches for sixty two yards
and two TVs.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
That's good night's work. You know, you get six catches,
two of them go for scores. It's a good ratio
right there, a very good percentage, you know, sixty plus
yards out of the tight end position and taking advantage
in the middle of the football field like he did.

Speaker 7 (19:10):
You know, it makes it easier and better.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
For the outside guys to operate and manipulate, you know,
their people one on one.

Speaker 7 (19:17):
On the perimeter. And when you.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
Get Jamar Chase and t Higgins on the outside, when
you're in high cotton right there, you have mismatches waiting
to happen. So I think Tanner Hudson is gonna still
surprise the people. Every year he surprises people by what
he contributes to the football team. I think this year
is going to be no exception. I think that he
is going to make some plays and some football games

(19:41):
are going to be like, man, what if we didn't
have Tanner Hudson? And that says a lot.

Speaker 1 (19:46):
Defensively, statistically, the guy that popped the most tould be
McKinley Jackson. He had three tackles for loss our running plays.

Speaker 7 (19:54):
That was good.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
I'm not sure that anybody else really stood out to
be Shimart.

Speaker 7 (19:59):
Stewart actually splashed a little bit when he was in
the game.

Speaker 1 (20:02):
Defensively, Other than that, I can't really say that anybody
shown in my opinion, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
I would very much agree with that, Dan, you know,
I think I think you're gonna give m ckinny Jackson credit,
you know. I mean he's trying to be a pros pro,
get himself, give himself ready to perform on a snap
by snap basis knowing that you've got, you know, X
amount of snaps from an opportunity standpoint, so you have

(20:30):
to go maximize each and every one of them. And
I think that's the mindset that he wanted to a
football game with. I thought that team played hard every
single snap, and on three occasions it turned into negative
players tackle philos I mean, when you're doing that for
your your defense and then helping the offense by you know,

(20:50):
picking up additional hidden yards.

Speaker 7 (20:52):
You know, you're you're making an impact on the football game,
and and.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
That that you know, that's his goal somehow influenced impact
the football game with the snaps.

Speaker 7 (21:00):
And he's been given money.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
Mack was good and special teams, but way too many
penalties in that year.

Speaker 3 (21:06):
At tonight exactly, I mean, I bet Darren Simmons is
pissed off. There's no there's no question. He's not a
happy camper in the locker room right now. Everybody's going
to give him his distance, but you know they'll he'll
review the tape. Who reviewed the tape with his players
and and uh rectify that issue. I don't I don't

(21:26):
think that's gonna be a season long problem with special teams,
you know, costing the Cincinnati Bengals big plays and yards
and potential returns and all that with with silly kind
of the mistakes. I just can't foresee that. I think, uh,
I think Darren Simmons will kill everybody.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
First, the long journey is underway. Didn't begin with a
win tonight, but hey, the loss doesn't count.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
Yeah it is, it's a big Orlando It's yeah, it's
it's number one in the books. First preseason game in
the twenty twenty five season did not go the way
that hope are expected.

Speaker 7 (22:07):
But as you said, doesn't mean a hill of beans
when you're.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
Trying to, you know, generate a playoff spot at the
end of the season, win the division they advanced to,
the to the playoffs, advance to the AFC Championship Game,
and ultimately win the Super Bowl's that's the goal, and
I think this team's good enough to do it.

Speaker 7 (22:29):
I really do. I mean, this.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
Preseason game is not going to change my opinion and
my feeling about what they've got in this locker room.
I think these guys all played hard. I think another
positive sign was when they fell behind, they rallied back.
You know, it didn't just you know, spit the bit
it's over. They rallied back and had a chance to
tie the football game down the stretch.

Speaker 7 (22:51):
And that's what you hope for.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
That puts a wrap on the preseason opener. Now it's
time for this week's fun fact segment. In his final
News Got Prince before this game, Joe Burrow was asked
a question about andre Yosi Vash and wound up talking
about the team's depth at wide receiver.

Speaker 5 (23:08):
Yeah, he's having a great camp.

Speaker 3 (23:10):
Now.

Speaker 5 (23:10):
Everybody knows I'm gonna throw a number one at number five.
But there's a lot of teams that do a really
good job of, you know, taking those two guys away.
And when you have a guy like Andre, you have
a guy like Mike Main Chuck both really stepping up
this camp. Now we're we're as deep as we've been
at the receiver position since I've been here. And then

(23:34):
you have guys like Mitch ands in Isaiah having great
camps as well. I feel great about where that room is.
And you know there's gonna be injuries, guys are gonna
go down, and we have guys that we can play
right in.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
So, in addition to discussing Andre, Joe mentioned Mike as
in Gasiki, Maine as in Jermaine Burton, Chuck as in
Charlie Jones, Isaiah as in Isaiah William who joined the
team with six games to go last year. And he
also threw in the name Mitch. That caught my ear
because we haven't heard much about Mitchell Tinsley. So let's

(24:11):
get to know the person under the pads. Time for
some fun facts with wide receiver Mitch Tinsley from Lee's Summit, Missouri,
near Kansas City. We won't judge you. Were you a
Chiefs fan growing up?

Speaker 8 (24:26):
I was definitely, you know, growing up in Kansas said
you can't help but be as she's fan.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
But you know I'm all Bengals now.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
No doubt about that. And along those lines, Joe Burrow
recently said we are as deep at the receiver position
as we've been since I've been here. And then the
first name he mentioned after that sentence was yours. Did
you hear that or hear about it? And what do
you think?

Speaker 8 (24:51):
I didn't necessarily hear it, but my mom she had
mentioned it to me when I got home after practice
that day.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
But yeah, that's pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (24:59):
The Joe Burrows shout out is a good thing because
you have to develop trust with that guy, and clearly
you're in the process of doing that.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
Yeah, most definitely.

Speaker 8 (25:06):
I think for the most part, it just comes down to,
you know, coming in here, doing my work, keeping my
head down, and you know, know one to do when
I'm out there.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
We're visiting the wide receiver Mitch Tinsley, The Bengals are
your second NFL team, You spent the last couple of
years in Washington, and yet you only played one year
of high school football. Why only one?

Speaker 8 (25:26):
Uh well, football was always my first love. It's kind
of one of them things that you know, growing up
my parents were separated, I wanted to play other sports,
and you know, when middle school team came around for basketball,
I wanted to really try that.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
So I had to go hoop dreams for a second.
And so I took a break.

Speaker 8 (25:43):
From football, and I was mainly just doing basketball for
the most part. I did a little track also, but
then I came back out I was missing it, and
I came back my senior year.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
It all worked out in the end. But when you
play just one year of high school football, it's hard
to get a lot of interest from college team. And
you started out as a walk on at Hutchinson Community College?
How did you wind up there?

Speaker 2 (26:07):
So?

Speaker 8 (26:07):
As crazy is you know the recruiting process for me,
I didn't really have much attention. There was some d
two schools that you know, were sort of interested. They
wanted me to walk on, but my ACT score wasn't
good enough, so I tried to retake it a couple
times insteadn't get a high enough score to get in
so Juco. And I always felt like I felt like
I could play the Division Division one level. I had

(26:29):
those dreams, I had those aspirations. So Juco was another
opportunity to give me a chance or a shot at
getting there. So that's kind of how that happened. And
then I had a recruiter. It was so bad that
like I had a recruiter who was kind of sending emails,
I'll sending my tape out to people. And he had
told me about there was a walk on spot or
a walk on tryout there at Hudgerson Community College. And

(26:51):
went there and you know the rest of his history.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
You certainly made the most of it. After two years there,
you transferred to Western Kentucky and in twenty twenty one
you had eighty seven catches for more than fourteen hundred
yards and fourteen touchdowns. At that point, did you start
to think that the NFL was a realistic possibility?

Speaker 2 (27:11):
What's crazy?

Speaker 7 (27:11):
Is?

Speaker 8 (27:11):
I mean, even coming from those circumstances, I always felt
like I would be there for somehow, some way I
was gonna get there.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
But yeah, it became more realistic after that year. You know, I.

Speaker 8 (27:21):
Had some really big games against some powerfile schools.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
You know, I think everything just kind of came together
that year.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
You spent your final college season at Penn State, where
your quarterback and one of your roommates was Sean Clifford.
He's from Cincinnati, he went to Saint Xavier High School.
Are you two still in touch and if so, has
he told you anything about Cincinnati.

Speaker 8 (27:42):
I haven't really talked to him about Cincinnati, but yeah,
me and him were still in touch. I was actually
probably about a month and a half ago. I was
at his wedding. He just got married up in Philly.
So yeah, we definitely keep in touch with pretty close.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
Your final game at Penn State was the Rose Bowl,
a win over Utah. You had six catch which including
a touchdown in that game. Considering your journey one year
of high school football, starting out as a walk on
it at the junior college level, was it surreal to
walk off that field as a Rose Bowl champion?

Speaker 8 (28:13):
It definitely was, for sure, because you know the whole
reason I wore number five from college and as a kid,
I was Alrobady, like five or six years old.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
USC had played Texas against Vince.

Speaker 8 (28:26):
Yeah, Vince Young, Yeah, and so, and Reggie Bush was
my favorite player, and you know, that was a rose
ball game. And for me to be able to end
up in that situation coming from the circumstances I came from,
is it definitely you know, was a dream come true.
But at that moment, I was more focused on, you know,
what was the next steps and get into my ultimate goal.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
Why was Reggie Bush your favorite player?

Speaker 8 (28:49):
He just I don't know, it was it was just
something about he's on the cover and ce double a.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
He just he just had to swagger about him.

Speaker 8 (28:55):
He was, you know in La you know, he was
at USC that was like really in my dream school.
It was I don't know, It's just everything, the whole
combination of everything just really just made me. And they
were winning national championship at the time, Like, he was
just one of my favorite players.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
After Penn State, it was onto the NFL. You started
your career with the Washington Commanders, and in your third
preseason game, you caught a thirty eight yard touchdown pass
from Jacoby Brissett against the Bengals. It included a great
spin move to blow by Jordan Battle. Has that come
up now that you two are teammates.

Speaker 8 (29:29):
Now I hasn't came up yet. I haven't really, you know,
brought it up or anything like that. But it's kind
of crazy how how it all, you know, came together,
and how I'm here now.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
Do you think he knows you were that guy?

Speaker 2 (29:40):
I'm not sure. I'm sure you. You probably would have
to ask him. I'm not sure. I haven't really haven't
really talked to him about it.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
I might have to bring it up, see what he says.

Speaker 2 (29:47):
It was definitely.

Speaker 1 (29:49):
We're visiting with wide receiver Mitch Tinsley. You spent last
year in Washington's practice squad, so she got a first
hand look at rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who had a
fantastic season. He's a high Trophy winner from LSU. You
are currently playing with a HEIGHSPO Trophy winner from LSU
and Joe Burrow. What are those two guys have in common,
if anything, on or off the field.

Speaker 2 (30:11):
I think it's just how they prepare.

Speaker 8 (30:12):
As far as their mentality, I think they're very dedicated
and you know, they take their work very serious. I
think they're very detailed oriented when it comes to just everything,
knowing everybody's responsibilities, knowing what they have to do and
also when plays break down and knowing just how to
operate when under pressure.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
How does catching a ball compare from each of them?

Speaker 8 (30:34):
I would definitely say they both though you know a
great ball for sure, you know. I think with Jayden,
he you never know where he's gonna be at in
the pocket. He could be moving, he could be doing
things like that. I think that's really the only two
different things that kind of separate the two as far
as Jaden's just you know, athleticism. But for the most part,
they both though you know, really great balls.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
All right, a few wild card topics now for wide
receiver Mitch Tinsley. You already mentioned that Reggie Bush was
your favorite football player growing up. How about from another sport?
Do you have a favorite athlete from something other than football?

Speaker 8 (31:09):
It would most definitely be either Muhammad Ali or Kobe Bryant.
Those are probably my two favorite like players or athletes
from other sports that I really you know, find inspiration
from or just as far as you know, the way
they attacked their craft.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
I really appreciate that Kobe Bryant is a common answer
among people your age. Muhammad Ali not as much. Why
Muhammad a LEI.

Speaker 8 (31:34):
For you, I think it's just everything he stood for
as far as you know, the air he grew up
in and you know, came up in, as far as
you know, things he had to deal with and on
the mean, you know, out the ring, in the ring,
as far as you know, just the pressure that comes
with being a big name, and also you know the
pressure that comes with you know, dealing with the things
that were going on at that time.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
So I think for.

Speaker 8 (31:55):
Me, it's just you know, really just being able to
It's a good testament of how to stay focused and
stay poised and you know, just do what you do
when you're in your craft.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
Next wild card question, what have you saved from your
sports career that's meaningful to you?

Speaker 8 (32:14):
I'd say for me, when I got my first Division
on offer when I was at Hutchinson Community College, it was,
you know, I was just going D one was you know,
a dream for me, and you know when I finally
got that call in that offer that day, it was
it was definitely probably one of the happiest days I
had so far.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
Aside from sports.

Speaker 8 (32:33):
Do you have any talents, I would say so, I'm
very artistic. I like to draw, but also video game.
I'm kind of nerdy, so like when it comes to
like out outside of football, like, I'm really video games.
I like, I like playing pretty much all video games
and things like that. Yeah, that's I would say those
are probably my two things that I do the most.

Speaker 1 (32:54):
What types of things do you like to draw?

Speaker 8 (32:57):
I'm a very like pencil person, so like as far
as any realistic thing, like when it comes to shading
and things like that, or people's faces or things like,
I'm pretty incident.

Speaker 2 (33:08):
All right.

Speaker 1 (33:09):
Final fun fact for wide receiver Mitch Tinsley. This one's
a little bit deep. If you could meet anybody in history,
living or deceased, who would that person be?

Speaker 2 (33:21):
It would definitely probably be one of that well two
I go with.

Speaker 8 (33:25):
Like I said, it would be Muhammad Ali, Kobe Bryant,
or it would be the wrapper Nipsey Hustle. That's probably
if I had a chance to meet and you know,
talk to him for a second, that would be the
people I will want to talk to.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
All right, you're off the hot seat. I appreciate your time.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
Best of luck. All right, thank you.
