Speaker 1 (00:00):
How good was it day one on Friday to actually
put that twelve link into that in a second and
be a Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
It felt amazing. I came here on a thirty visit,
and you know, I was just anxious at that time, like,
you know, want to know where I'm gonna end up
at or I'm gonna be and we're franchise, I'm gonna
have a chance of turning around. So I was just
excited that finally, you know, everything came true, and you
know this bing is extremely comfortable.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
It's a beautiful day in Berea. Well, now I really
do mean this. It's seventy six degrees. This is the
best weather available for the best podcast available. And welcome
to our second edition of Rookie Minicamp. My name is
andrews Aciliano. This is the great Jason Gibbs. We are
just merely two men wearing hats.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
And long sleeve shirts, which was a poor choice given
the weather. No, I always do this, sweating, always.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Long sleeves during training camps. You gotta protect yourself from
the sun.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
And seriously, dude, I'll deal with it. Come on, I
put sunscreen on.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Kids. I want you to watch NFL practices. And I
really do mean this or adults, and look at how
many of the coaches are wearing long sleeves. When you
get to training camp. You're out there, this is only
mini camp out there every single day. You gotta protect yourself, Buddy.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
I do just fine. I have sunscreen SPF fifty, nothing
but the finest. I just this is not a breathable
material right now. This is a couple of years old.
It's not the newer models I wore all those. I
need a laundry day.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Happy Mother's Day, yes, very much so. Also Happy birthday
to my mom. She gets to the double. We're recording
this on Saturday, May tenth, after the brown second of
a scheduled three rookie mini camp practices. Gibby, let's get
to the headline of the day, not the quarterbacks on
the podium. The headline of the day, and we say
this jokingly, is Mason Graham losing his lunch, which was

(01:57):
wings from the kitchen. I didn't have the wings wings.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
The pizza was unbelievable, it was great, the food outstanding.
Just ate too many of them.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Kevin Stefanski pointed out, it looks like he ate a
little bit too much lunch, and he lost said lunch
on the field. However, in a move worthy of the
fifth overall pick, Mason Graham got the water cleaned out
his own helmet and he put that baby back on
and he got back in there.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
I loved every minute of it. Got back in then
apologized to the offensive line. We were just talking beforehand.
One of the grounds keepers, one of our great grounds
crew here come running up with a blue you know,
the water jug that goes in like the office. Sure,
And I'm looking around, like, where does that plug into?

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Here?

Speaker 3 (02:45):
We're out in the middle of a field. I don't
know where that's going. And he's getting ready to run out,
and at this point I didn't know what had happened.
And the one senior grounds crew literally stops him.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
He's running.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
He goes, now, we're gonna flood the field out if
we do. We got to figure out a different way
to clean it up and wash it. And I was like, oh,
he boot and rallied.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
All right.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Someone did perfect. I mean, that was an ultimate You
don't see that in college and be able to do that.
That was a great move by him.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
It's a move aided by youth and Mason Graham, obviously
a rookie, was able to get back out there, and
he's not the first no rookie to lose it during
rookie Minicamp. Dwan Jones did a couple of years ago
as well. On Day one, worked out okay, Mason Graham.
I have no doubt it is going to work out okay.
And I also have no doubt it's going to work
out okay for both of these quarterbacks. Today was the

(03:34):
first time that Dylan Gabriel picked ninety four. SHOODEORW Sanders
pick one four were on the podium speaking to the
Cleveland media and the assembled media nationally as well. Kimberly
Martin from ESPN was here other national coverage the first
time since the draft. I thought they were both great,
and I'm not just you know, try to blow sunshine

(03:55):
like the sunshine coming out on our heads here as well.
They both, if take individually, if they were the only
quarterback that was drafted by the Browns, I think Browns
fans would love each of them, and they will love
both of them, but they were very, very different. Let's
start with Dylan Gabriel. He was up first. He has
a maturity and a confidence about him that I have

(04:15):
said many many times before. He played six years in
college football. He has seen a lot. He has a
I'm gonna say maturity again. He is an adult. Is
the best way for me to say it. He was
asked a question about how he is going to deal
with the daily comparisons with Shador, not only here in
rookie medicamp, but as we progress into Mini Caamp and

(04:37):
even into the season, and he said, well, not attacking
the person who asked the question. I don't like that
question because it can only divide us. It's me, it's Shadoor,
It's Joe Flacco's Kenny Pickett, it's Deshaun Watson. He listed
all five and focusing on that will divide our quarterback
room and divide our locker room. And I'm not for that. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
I thought that he came across really really well well
answered every question there was never there was never a
second of hesitation, never, And if there was something that
he couldn't answer, he was pretty blunt and said, come
back to me in two weeks. I can answer that question.
I've been here for twenty four hours, forty eight hours now.
I can't answer that. I don't know how to answer that.

(05:20):
I know what we have, I know what we've done.
I know where I want to get to, and where
we want to get to is a football team. A
lot of we with Dylan Gabriel, Yeah, I thought it
was impressive. He was asked what did he think when
he heard they drafted shud Or Sanders, and his words
were short and simple. Love it, he said, I loved

(05:40):
it for a number of reasons. Number one for who
it is, meaning I love that they drafted another quarterback.
I love that they drafted him. And he said he
embraces the competition. He was a competitor in high school
in Honolulu. He was a competitor at UCF, he was
a competitor at Oklahoma, he was a competitor at Oregon.

(06:00):
And he embraces the competition here as well. He seems
totally unaffected by the outside No, he said to himself,
I run toward the competition. I want to be in
a competitive environment. I want to run towards that situation
and not away from it.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Very impressive, as was Shadoor sanderses like, if you sat
here watching these press conferences, going which one do I
like better? Honestly, when they both got done, you'd be like,
I love them both, truly, Shadoor, million dollar smile, very confident.
I thought he said all the right things, including I'm
not here to prove people wrong, I'm here to prove
myself right. It was great. I mean, he was humbly

(06:42):
talked about giving back and why he was at John
Marshall High School for example, and giving back to the
community and being in northeast Ohio. Truly fantastic an interview
that we're going to play in a few minutes. I
got the impression from him Gibbie as well, that he
was just happy to be grounded anywhere, to have the
pre draft process behind it, but like being able to

(07:03):
sit in a hotel room, watch the Cavs game last night,
be in his playbook, and just have a place to
call home.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
I think that he did a fantastic job. He looked
more relaxed on day two. Day one. It's your first day.
There's a lot going on. The cameras are out, everybody's broadcasting.
Everybody wants to see what you can do or what
you can't do, and everybody wants to put a label
on things and judge. On May ninth, which is crazy
to me. So today much more relaxed. He gave great answers,

(07:34):
but he also he also had some fun like at
the end, are you gonna are you gonna try to
buy number two? The number two? And he was like,
my signing bonus is not big enough for me to
go down that road.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Or even the first question, which was something along the
lines of why are you so popular? And I think
you think he came back?

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Why do you think of it?

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Why do you think And the response was, well, you're likable,
is it okay? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (08:02):
And then he flashes that smile.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
And it is a fantastic smile. Yep. You're gonna love
them both. Hey, who's your favorite kid? Like talking to
any parent, you love them both, you know, Gibbey, I'm
not gonna ask you you know that question, but then
I love you, buddy. Yeah, yeah, you got you eventually
get to the point where they got out there on
the grass and you make your own decisions. They've both

(08:24):
had their moments on the field. They were both great
on the podium. Dylan Gabriel picked off today in a
red zone period by Carson swesssinger, may I ask you
to make this a pro Carson Swessinger moment and not
a anti Dylan Gabriel moment, because the thirty third pick
is supposed to be out there and make plays, and
he did, and he looked good. The entire thing is,

(08:44):
Kevin Sefanski has stressed, is a learning lab.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
Yeah, and again he got another day tomorrow to put
tape down. Whether you're gonna be here on Monday or
whether you're not gonna be you it's all about putting
good work in and good tape down. And the guys
have done that today, all fifty six of them that
are here.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
To quote Rashid Wallace, both teams played hard, but man.
Both teams played hard. Both quarterbacks played hard, Both running
backs played hard. All of these rookies look good. It's
their first step in the journey. Let's get to that
interview I mentioned he is now wearing number twelve for
the Cleveland Browns. Shortly after he got off the podium,

(09:24):
I was able to talk to Shoud or Sanders. Shoud
or Sanders, we saw that video of you walking out
of the building here at the Cross Country Mortgage field
House and you looked at that grass. How good was it?
Day one on Friday to actually put that twelve on,
get to that in a second and be a Cleveland Brown.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
It felt amazing. I came here on a thirty visit,
and you know, I was just anxious at that time, like,
you know, want to know where I'm gonna end up at,
where I'm gonna be and with franchise, I'm gonna have
a chance of turning around. So I was just excited
that find. You know, everything came true and you know
this building is extremely comfortable the.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
End of a long journey. I would have to think
that actually getting that, that whole process, getting the pro day,
getting all of that behind you and actually putting a
helmet on and throwing a football just felt normal again,
didn't it? It did?

Speaker 2 (10:20):
It did? So that's what I told myself, Like yesterday
after the Esay prize, I said, I gotta have more fun.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
Do you not have fund No? I have not.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
For sure, I have fun, But you got thinking those
process it's so serious, so serious, so serious all the time,
and whenever you're around the teammates and just being around
everybody now it gave me that wholesome feeling again just
being around just the team chemistry to different personalities that
you're gonna meet just all those different type of things.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
So like be loose, in other words, like yourself a
little bit more.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
Yeah, I'll say that. That's what That's what teams bring
out of you. So now everybody yelling with each other.
Everybody met each other. So it's really exciting that, you know,
I'm excited for today's price.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Just feels like the pressure is off. Feel a little
bit more add pressures, like like the way to the
world of the whole process. No, not really.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
The way of the process is like you actually able
to meet and understand different human beings that is in
the same process with you.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
That's what the most.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
Interesting thing and fun thing to me is now that
you know these are actual people too.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
We don't see it, but you're wearing twelve. You're joking
to the media that you're not buying anyone else's number
right now. No, but did twelve feel good? It's Dad's
number backwards.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
You get the hint, You get the hint. So yeah, no,
I felt good wearing it for sure. It felt good.
Where any number gonna feel good wearing it? Is about
what I do in the number for real?

Speaker 1 (11:47):
A level you said out there as well, you said,
You're not here to prove people wrong. Finish it for me.
You are.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
Here to prove myself right.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
How do you prove yourself right?

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Win games? So I think that that's with all the
fans and that's when everybody want to want to see
and just be the person I know I am.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
How do you embrace this competition not just with Dylan
Gabriel but with the other quarterbacks and what we all
agree is a crowded quarterback room? How do you do that?

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Just focus on myself and what I need to do
to get better in any areas. You know, I'm not
going in.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
What have your first couple of days? You've been here
for a while now, a couple of weeks now, been
in Cleveland, whether it's going to meet kids at a
high school, working out, sitting in your hotel room, I know,
watching the cabs and grinding on the playbook as well.
What's that all been like for you?

Speaker 2 (12:38):
It was in a good experience. It's been different for me.
It's adjustment, I would say, but it's an adjustment for
the better. Like you know, when I get to my
hotel room, I feel comfortable in there every day, you know,
cause I know I'm not leaving here until they say so.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
It's exciting, you know what.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
I'm able to have a nice place to sleep at
that's made me feel cozy, make me feel at home.
I know I won't be switching rooms and getting in
and out of, you know, a different hotel room.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
How important is it for you to get out in
the community.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
I'll say it's extremely important. But it's important for my
own happiness.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
How does it make you happy? It makes me happy.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
Because I'm being able to connect, connect with people, connect
with human beings, and not just because this is the thing.
If you live in a world of social media, you're
gonna think very negatively. And it's for all athletes. You'll
think very negatively about yourself or you'll feel too high up.
You get what I'm saying, because that's how media is

(13:42):
either gonna be however, they're gonna tear you down.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
It's gonna be one to two. It's no in between.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
So for me, I don't pay attention to that stuff.
I focus on, you know, real life. I never seen
hate in real life by fans and people spectator that
I met. Ever, so hey only exists online.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
How do you deal with it? Because it's a lot.
I'm not saying, hey, it's just it's spotlight. Some of
it can be negative, certainly. How do you deal with that?

Speaker 2 (14:12):
It's the same as it is every year, so I'm
accustomed to it. I'm used to it, so I don't
even really, you know, focus on or they don't live
in my mind at all.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
What's the biggest misconception about you, whether it be from
social media.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
I don't know what people think of me. I don't
know what people think of me. So if we had
just a question there and put everybody in the building,
what do you think about your door? Eventually, then I'm
pretty sure I'll be number positive.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
I guarantee you there'll be plenty of positives as well,
and there'll be positives when they get out there in
the field as well. You have a message here for
Browns fans who have been speaking of social media, obviously
sitting on their phones, hanging on their phones looking for
every possible clip of you or Dylan or any of
these rookies, Mason all the way down the line. What
is your message here for the dog pat We're.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Here to work simple, That's what we came here to do.
That's what we're gonna do.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
All right, and that work begins this weekend. Chador the
twelve looks good man begins, now begins now actually yesterday,
all right, Well we're about to get out there for
day two. Good luck with that. Man really enjoyed that
conversation with Shador Sanders. I want to pull back the
curtain if I could for you here. So I actually
made the rookie mistake to show you the kind of
teammate Shador is. At the very beginning of that interview,

(15:34):
I got the days wrong. I mean, I don't know
why we all been on the road, everyone's been working.
And I said that today was what day is it?
I got the day wrong. I said it was Friday
on Saturday, your first day as a Brown in uniform. Saturday, Saturday,

(15:55):
Friday Friday. Yeah, Oh, I got my days wrong. You
want to do it again, dude, right, And he looked
at me, huh, and he's corrected me, and then I
didn't get it. And then this is like twenty seconds
into the interview, and then I'm like, oh man, I
got the days wrong. We had a good laugh about it,
and then we started over. But like you saw a

(16:18):
little glimpse of him like he was going to be
a good teammate, he was going to help you, he
was going to pick you up right and and we
started over. And then I also really thought that came
through again later in the interview when he said that Gibbie,
he said after day one of practice that he wasn't
really himself and part of being himself is getting that

(16:41):
energy from his teammates and learning everyone's name and getting
to know the people you're going to be sharing a
locker room with, and that that process is something that
he really enjoys and that with each passing day he's
going to be more of himself. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
I mean you saw it a little bit today with
the media.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
I mean that it's an environment he thrives in. He
can handle himself, and that I think a lot of
that is him. Some of it obviously he gets from
his father with being able to handle the media, But
I mean that's you saw the confidence a little bit
more today.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
Yeah. And another thing from that as well, Browns Fans.
I don't know if it was the reason he picked twelve,
but twelve is the opposite of the number his dad wore,
which was twenty one. And when I pointed that out.
He said, you get it.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
So now you're getting the invitation to the barbecause.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
There you go. That might explain the number twelve jersey.
Also keep in mind, however, the jerseys can be changed
before the beginning of the regular season. Just keep that
in mind. Okay. Also keep in mind that we've got
some other great interviews coming up on future editions of
The Best Podcast Available. You've already heard from quinchn You've
already heard from Mason Graham. We also have Carson Swessinger

(17:56):
and Harold Fannin. We also have jacqueses Air, the Browns
d line coach, talking about Mason Graham and Dylan Sampson
as well as we try to find a good nickname
for the Quinn Shawn Dylan Sampson tandem. It is very
much a work in progress. We could work shop it
as we continue.

Speaker 3 (18:16):
So I've already gotten a few on social media.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
Okay, they're quite good, all right, So you guys work
at that and you could tweet tweet either of us.
We're just guys wearing hats on Mother's Day weekend. Thanks
