(01:08):
getting better and for today's program. We're now a few
days removed from the NFL Draft. I wanted to go
to an article that was put up on cbssports dot
com uh by Kyle Wilson, and he basically went through
each of the thirty two NFL teams and he listed
the following three things, his favorite pick for each team,
(01:31):
his best value pick of the draft for each team,
and the most surprising pick in the NFL Draft for
each team. Now, we'll go over his selections in just
a bit after we take your phone calls at two
oh one nine three nine four five one three. My
favorite pick for the draft, and Pearson Butler, our crack producer,
(01:55):
has already made it pretty obvious who my favorite pick
was because he the video up for the whole world
and universe to see was Cam'scatibo, the running back from
Arizona State in the fourth round. Now, it's not necessarily
that I liked guys better, but because the Giants got
(02:16):
him in the fourth round, a guy I targeted for
my personal selection for the Giants in the fourth round,
it just so happened to be a double bullseye for
me and I talked about this guy at the combine
when we left the combine and I said to John,
fourth round Cam's scatibo and he said, they'll never make it.
(02:36):
He's gonna be in the third round. He'll never make it.
And if you're joining us today and haven't listened the
other two days of the week, you know, we finally
agreed that okay, maybe he'll be there at ninety nine
at the end of the third round and the Giants
could get him there. Well, as it turned out, they
got him at one oh five at the beginning of
(02:56):
the fourth round. So not only because I really had great,
great hopes for this player and I was magnetized to him,
I was thrilled to see that he wound up being
there at one five at the top of the fourth
round for the Giants. So it's not just about the
(03:18):
fact that he's a terrific talent and an energizer bunny
who was going to bring the intensity and the blood
and guts that could really spark and inspire this offense
and this MetLife stadium crowd, but also on a personal note,
because I happened to hit that bull's eye twice over.
So yes, Cam'scatibot is my favorite pick for the Giants
(03:42):
in this draft, and I'm sure a lot of you folks,
as you have watched the highlights in the last few days,
you now understand why I was hoping that this guy
would be there for the Giants for the past three months.
Best value pick for the Giants now I think this
(04:02):
one here is got to be defensive tackle Darius Alexander
in the third round out of Toledo, smaller school out
of the Mid American Conference, had a couple of playoff
games this year. Pitt was one of them and played
extremely well and then did real well at the Sea Bowl.
(04:28):
The tape on him shows at about six four, three
hundred and five pounds or whatever it is, give or
take a little bit on the measurements. He is a
Leonard Williams' style of three technique defensive tackle that is
a penetrator and a passwash type of guy who will
go downhill. He is not so much Leonard Williams of
(04:52):
the defensive end variety who came out of USC and
then was misused by the Jets for a few years
and then came to the Giants where they finally gave
him a home and decided that you know what, forget
this hybrid stuff. He truly is a three technique defensive tackle.
Darius Alexander is cut out of that mold, cut out
(05:15):
of that cloth, and as I understand it, that's the
goal They would love to see him, if not be
part of the rotation, but even potentially sees the starting
job if he's capable of doing it that quickly out
of the box to play next to Dexter Lawrence. He's
not an o's tackle. He's not a defensive end. More
(05:38):
than anything else, he is a three technique defensive tackle.
It is my belief that this is going to allow
Chauncey Golston not necessarily to move into defensive tackle the
three technique. I don't think he's going to see a
whole ton of snaps there. I think that what we're
going to see is more of goal Now playing the
(06:04):
run stopping defensive end where he's going to help set
the edge off of the end. I don't think we're
going to see as much of Goalsten Now as the
three technique because of the addition of Alexander. Now, you
may say to me, well, but Alexander's just one guy,
(06:25):
and I understand that he is just one guy. But
the Giants honestly believe that they've got Roy Robertson Harris
to compete at the three defensive tackle spot. Now why
is that important? Well, because when he was in college,
(06:48):
Andre Patterson, the Giants defensive line coach, coached him for
two years when he was in college before we got
to the NFL. As I now see the draft picks
come into the building, it is my understanding that Robertson
Harris and Alexander will be the guys who wind up
(07:12):
splitting the playing time at the three technique. Alexander's learning
curve for development will determine how many of those reps
he gets and perhaps even if he steals the starting job.
But I do know that Robertson Harris is going to
be in that three technique mix because they love the
(07:34):
fact that Andre Patterson has got another chance to work
with this guy. He's been in the league for a
few years and I know maybe the production has not
been anything that's overwhelming or jaw dropping or eye opening,
but Andre Patterson is a guy who when he believes
in a player, oh yeah, he'll get something out of him.
(07:57):
And I think the reunion with Patterson, from what I
I can understand, is going to be very good for
Robertson Harris and so he and Alexander will give the
Giants depth at the three technique and that will allow
Chauncey Golston to exclusively work more so, if not exclusively
(08:17):
as a defensive end, as a guy who can set
the edge on that end, much like Justin Tuck used
to do. And then when they decided that well his
past ERUW skills are really good, let's have him play
some three technique as well. So this is really setting
up so well for the Giants because they're going to
(08:40):
have some versatility and of course Led Betters in there
as well, the former Jaguar who is the backup nose
tackle to spell Dexter Lawrence. The Giants have done a
terrific job of adding guys to that defensive line, not
to mention the cold front seven itself, that will allow
them to match up, to change and go very multiple
(09:04):
whenever they feel the need to do so. So I'm
going to say to you folks that in terms of
value pick, I think I think Darius Alexander to me
is a great value pick which will enhance the value
of this front seven tremendously and I say best value
(09:27):
because I'm also taking into account he's only a third rounder.
I can't say value pick is Abdul Carter because everybody
knew he was going to be a top three pick
in the draft. So while you will get blue chip
play out of him, the value for a third rounder
(09:47):
who's going to have an impact on this front seven
makes me go to Alexander. I want to keep that
in mind. Value in context. Okay, when you guys call
in with your name, with your names at two to one, four,
five three. My most surprising pick for the Giants is
Thomas for Doni, the tight end. I did not think
(10:11):
the Giants were going to draft a tight end or
a wide receiver in this draft. I thought they could
pick up a couple of wide receivers and a speed guy,
perhaps in the undrafted rookie free agent allotment. It looks
as though that's what they're going to do by some
of the names that have been reported. What I also
(10:33):
thought was if they decided to bring in another tight end,
that's where it would come from. So my most surprising
pick is Thomas for Doni, the tight end out of
Nebraska who came via the seventh round with the Giants
first pick of the seventh round. We know about the
two ACL injuries that kind of sidetracked the first couple
(10:56):
of years of his career, but been very productive over
the way last two years and looks to be a
very intriguing wide receiver threat. And as it's been said
to me from outside the building, someone suggested to me
a long time scout said, he's the kind of guy who,
(11:18):
if you know, if he gets a little dinged up
in training camp, you can ir him for the season,
red shirt him, and give him a chance to get
his sea legs, grow him, develop him, and then kind
of bring him out in twenty twenty six and see
if he can truly become a part of the rotation
(11:43):
and become a threat in the passing game. Because, let's
face it, because of being derailed for two years by
injuries in college, he does not have the kind of
snaps and the kind of experience that a normal tied
end and who had not been hurt would come out
of school with. So he's going to need some extra
(12:05):
seasoning and so there's nothing wrong with that if that
turns out to be the case. So I'm thinking right now,
as it stands that Fordni and Dart are immediately the
two guys who are most likely to be red shirts.
Whether or not Bo is the fifth round choice the
(12:27):
offensive lineman, the swing tackle guard out of Purdue, also
becomes a red shirt remains to be seen. It depends
on what he shows when he hits the ground running
here during the spring and during the summer. Can he
interject himself into a competition to find out if he's
one of the best five offensive linemen on this roster.
(12:49):
Maybe he can. I don't want to put any limitations
on him. I just know this. People I've talked to
said he easily could have gone at least around and
maybe even two rounds earlier than he did. He does
play with tenacity, He's got terrific feet, he's got athleticism,
(13:09):
he can get to the outside on a poll. There's
a lot to like there. So in any event, that's
the way I see it, best value, most surprising pick,
and favorite pick of the Giants' draft class. With that,
(13:30):
I open up the phones and I ask you, folks,
if you might have an answer to those three questions.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
We go to line one.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
Jeff in Maine, your first big Blue kickoff Live. Good morning.
Speaker 5 (13:44):
Oh hey, how's it going, Paul. How are you today?
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Very well? How are you doing?
Speaker 3 (13:48):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (13:49):
Very happy? Loving the draft? Oh great show yesterday too.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
By the way, thank you.
Speaker 5 (13:52):
But I think Joe Shane did it again. I give
him an A plus. I knew he would, and I
do like the harder pick. I was initially worried about
injuries just because of what's happened over the last few years,
but now I'm fine. I think actually Hunter might have
been a bigger injury risk because of the small size.
So I'm very fine there. And I think there's gonna
(14:13):
be no problem with playing time because over the course
of the season, you need all three guys playing seventy
percent of the time, and that way they'll all stay
fresh and injury free. And you know, I don't see
how people think there's not going to be enough playing
time for all three guys.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Jeff. Just remember this, and we've said this at different
times on the program. The Philadelphia Eagles, and they don't
do it necessarily with their front seven. They do it
with their defensive line, not so much with their linebackers,
but they do everything they can to get those guys
into a rotation. So that it increases their efficiency so
(14:48):
that the snaps that those guys are putting out on
the field are at the highest of levels of production.
And can you imagine if you can heighten the level
of production from a Burns, from a Carter, from a
Dexter Lawrence, and from a Thibodeaux, Imagine getting even more
impact out of those players if you can. How cool
(15:09):
is that?
Speaker 6 (15:10):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (15:11):
My god?
Speaker 5 (15:11):
Exactly and yeah for sure, and uh yeah, I totally agree.
And then I love the Jackson dark cook. I've got
a question. Do you think I know we won't start
this year, but do you think they might come up
with a couple, say, RPO packages for him, just to
get them a couple of snaps here and there.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
I would think not. It's my belief that Dart would
be a red shirt and that the only way he
would get into a game, and it's going to involve
a bunch of stars lining up. You know, the constellations
up in the sky are going to have to line
up a certain way where the Giants are either you know,
getting hammered late in the season in a game where
(15:49):
it's garbage time, or maybe excuse me, for some reason,
they have a huge lead, and you just want to
get them a series or two. I mean, there's always
the unthinkable, right, and that is the Giants have another
really rough season one loss wise, and they start off
like going five, and all of a sudden, before you
know what, they're two to nine, and now, you know,
(16:12):
you start saying, well, you know, maybe we should take
a look. But then again, even with all of those
things that I just mentioned, Dart's own rookie progression is
going to have a tremendous impact on the Giants' impetus
to put him in a game if they don't feel
he's ready. No matter what these circumstances are that we've
(16:35):
just talked about, he's not going to get off the bench, period,
end of story. You have to go into this season
saying he is a red shirt who will not play,
and then worry about working backwards about certain circumstances that
may prompt you to give him a few appearances. But
(16:55):
even so, the number one requirement is going to be
is Jackson Dart ready and up to it? You know,
you remember what eli back in two thousand and four
when they put him in there for Kurt Warner, and
it was really really rough and the results were really
really ugly. But Tom Kauflin knew when he put Eli
in at that point that even if he wasn't prepared
(17:18):
for the results, he knew he was prepared emotionally, psychologically,
and mentally to handle that adversity. And that's going to
be part of this equation too, because you have to
know if you put a rookie quarterback into those situations
down the stretch of the season, it may go really
really bad, just like it did for Relie. And if
(17:40):
you're a young rookie quarterback is not prepared to deal
with that properly, If you don't think he's strong enough
to handle that and let the water wash off of
his back, well now you could damage him. So these
are the kinds of things you have to think about.
But I'd say, going in right now, think of Dart
as a red shirt.
Speaker 5 (18:01):
Oh yeah, no, I totally do. I'll just think of
maybe the occasional gadget play now with that.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
I would not even suggest that at all. I think
that would be a very very bad idea.
Speaker 5 (18:12):
Okay, well, that just one least comment about Joe Shane.
I guess put impressing most is the value he got
for not just see Russell Wilson sign he's for only
ten million, but training up to get Dark for just
the third round or whatnot?
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Two third rounds.
Speaker 5 (18:27):
I'm a great poker player.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Yeah, it was. Consider that Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network
the day before the draft had to mock where the
Giants were going to trade up from thirty four to
eighteen with Seattle and have to give up a second
rounder in twenty twenty six. Well, instead of going up
to eighteen to get Dart, they only had to go
to twenty five, and then they wind up only giving
(18:50):
up a third rounder this year and next year. So
I agree with you. If Jackson Dart becomes even seventy
five percent of what they hope he is, the two
third rounders are a steel for the Giants.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
Oh it's ridiculous.
Speaker 5 (19:05):
Yeah, totally all right, Well, keep up on the good work.
I appreciate it's all I got.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
Thank you so much for the call. Two on one
nine three nine four five one three. Jay is in
Phoenix and you're next time Big Blue Kickoff Live.
Speaker 8 (19:18):
Hello, Hey Paul, how are you doing?
Speaker 2 (19:20):
I'm great? How are you?
Speaker 8 (19:22):
I'm doing well? I was calling because and I apologize
I didn't hear the beginning of the podcast or of
the show to hear what the three questions were.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
Yeah, well, I figured we would go to the CBS
Sports model that was put out within the last twenty
four hours. I want to know who your favorite pick
was of the Giants draft. Okay, who the best value
pick was of the Giants draft? And then who was
the surprise pick of the Giants draft?
Speaker 8 (19:52):
Okay, I could do all of that.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Please do all.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
That, Okay.
Speaker 8 (19:55):
So overall, I love the draft. I love that they
have added an meaning like a just a grittiness throughout
all seven picks. I think that's great. So I think
that the answer your first question. I knew Abdul Carter
if he was there, he was going to be the guy.
So I'm gonna go with Jackson Dart. I loved, okay
that they traded back up into the first to get him,
(20:17):
and I really liked listening yesterday to Charlie Weiss talk
about how to develop him and the things he's already
bringing to the table. I think it's merely emphasized to
me and hopefully to all the fans how important it
is to understand that these are kids who have a
lot of growing to do, and if the coaching staff
feels really good about him, the chances are they see
(20:38):
in him what they need to be able to put
a lot on his plate and stea him grow.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
Yeah. Jay, you know, since the combine, I had been
saying that outside of cam Ward, who we all knew
was going to go to the Titans, that was pretty
much faded complete. Dart was my next favorite quarterback on
the board, and I thought if the Giants were going
to go for one, Remember I was like, if they
don't take one, it's fine, that's kind of the way
I lean anywhere. But if they're going to go for one,
Dart to me was the best fit. So you know
(21:05):
how I feel about that pick.
Speaker 8 (21:08):
And I even liked that Charlie was talking about watch
him come in and lead. I like the idea of
having Dart lead the bottom of the roster, the practice squad,
the guys that he's actually going to be lining up with,
because you know, Russell and James are going to be
with the ones and twos, you'll have Tommy and Jackson
at the end. But if he can come in and
help that group to perform at a high level. I
(21:29):
think that's awesome too, A nice competition in practices. And
I don't know if it hasn't been announced yet, but
I think one of the things that Giants did with
him that's really smart is they added one of his
receivers from old miss as Udfa, and I think having
somebody who has some instant chemistry with will really help
build his confidence as well. I think that's a good
(21:49):
I thought the player is a good player too. That's
the other thing anyway, So the other question, nobody's going
to bring this name up that I'll bring him up.
I like Corey Black, who they brought.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
In the seven around corner.
Speaker 8 (22:01):
Cornerback and Paul I would think, I don't know if
you've seen the highlights of him half screaming off the
edge on extra points and field goals.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
Really good special teams for edge.
Speaker 8 (22:11):
And he's blocking kicks. It's beautiful.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
Yeah. When I talked to Joe Shane about him in
that interview that John and I did with Joe after
the draft is up on giants dot com and the YouTube.
I had asked Joe specifically in the seventh round. So
many people look for special teams guys, and Black is
a really good special teams guy, but how much of
his cornerback traits also went into his grade And Joe
(22:35):
said they liked his ability at corner and that he
could compete for some defensive snaps. So this is not
just a special teams pick. This is a player that
they had an eye on.
Speaker 8 (22:47):
Yeah, very good. And then the last one, it's not
so much it's a surprise pick because of his abilities.
It's because as a Bringham young University fan, I was
third feet from the beatdown that's camp scattered boot put
on the Cougars and at ASU Stadium in Tempe, and
(23:10):
I did not like him, did not want him because
I was just I haven't forgiven him yet, but I'll
tell you right now.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Can you do it now?
Speaker 8 (23:17):
I always do. He as a good player, and I'm
working on that forgiveness.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
Please do.
Speaker 8 (23:22):
He's going to bring a nice edge with him and
Tracy and Singletary in the backs of I'm excited for
that picnic.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
You shd you with thirty feet? You were on the sideline, Well.
Speaker 8 (23:31):
Okay, maybe I was. I was in the third or
fourth row.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
Okay, let me ask you a question. Could you tell?
Could you tell? And and I know, you know, you
had people around you and again you're in the crowd,
but could you tell the kind of infectious energy and
intensity that he brings to his teammates on the field
just by being that close to the field.
Speaker 8 (23:53):
It's not just the teammates, it's the entire stadium. Yeah,
but yes, you could see it on the side.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
I mean, he's he's.
Speaker 8 (24:01):
Got he has a sweater to him. And it's funny
because he's a smaller guy too, but I like the
small thick backs.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
Well, he's a power back. That's how I call it.
Don't worry about yeah, don't worry about his height, don't
worry about his high just call him a power back
because that's what he is.
Speaker 8 (24:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
And you know, I've likened his effect on a team
to what Brandon Jacobs used to do.
Speaker 8 (24:23):
Right, and you know watching him play because I watched
them the same day, his highlights and then every touch
Carrie play that Tracy was involved in last year, and
it was interesting to compare the two and see how
when Tracy's very good at breaking tackles, but with him
he's got some good power, but guys have a tendency
to slip off of him, which is awesome to see.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Yeah, it's a great compliment.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
Bouncing off of him.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
This is like a Jacob's Bradshaw team teammate kind of thing.
It's a tag team like what Bradshaw and Jacobs was.
That's how I see these two guys working in the
Giants backfield.
Speaker 3 (24:59):
Absolutely so.
Speaker 8 (25:00):
Anyway, it's very excited about the draft, the hopeful for everything.
I'm really excited to see. Jackson Dart was my number
two B side hind camp as soon as Cam was off,
not off the board, but that the Titans were taking.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
I'm sure I love Jackson Dart.
Speaker 8 (25:12):
I'm really excited for him.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
Thank you, Jason, appreciate it. Go two one nine three,
nine four five one three Here on Big Blue Kickoff Live,
we go back to the phones. Uh that was Jay. Actually,
I guess we're going to Jason now, right, Jay Mack.
We're going to Jason now, Jay, I'm sorry, I got
I got the names mixed up on the screen. We're
going to Jason and new Haven right now.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
How you doing all right? Man?
Speaker 2 (25:37):
Good to talk to you.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
Good good. Yeah, I'm glad to get you again. I
know it's touch you. On Saturday, A few things heard
some of the questions you had about who your most
surprising pigs. The pick I kind of liked was the
Bowl pick. Was it Marcus bow right.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
Out of Produce, fifth round offensive lineman.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
Yeah. I mean apparently from what I've heard over the
few months from different people that you know, scouts or
draft gurgles, quote unquote, was that he was more of
a second to third round pick I've.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
Heard around or too earlier would have been good. I
don't know about second round, but I've heard his highest
third round right right.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
But yeah, I liked all the picks. Both to me,
has a chance to play. I know he may get
a red shirt, but I think he may have a
chance to play, depending on how things happen. Now, well
I pencil him in as a start or anything like that. No,
you know, I think going into the you know, going
into camp in a few months, I can kind of
(26:39):
guess who the starting five will be. I could belong.
But but what I like about bo is his balance.
One of the underrated traits was especially tackles, in my opinion,
are balance and agility right out, moving laterally right. I
know a lot of times you would get caught up
in the traits of an offensive line. Oh he's six
(26:59):
y six, he's three forty. You know, the mountain and
we and we all, I won't say everybody, but you know,
we all, you know, we like those traits and players.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
Yeah, but Jason, as you said, what good is six six,
three forty if it's on the ground exactly?
Speaker 3 (27:14):
And that's some of the And I'm not here to
down evenil, that's not what this call is about. But
you get in love with the traits. But you know,
he has the long arms, he has the big legs,
the thighs, you know, very strong. But he lunges a lot.
He's on the ground a lot. You know when you
see this, you know Marcus bol kid, you know his agility,
(27:34):
his aggression, his lateral movement is very impressive for a
three hundred pounds. The same with Alexander. Kind of the
same scenes athletic lateral quickness. You know, two different positions,
but you can see the similarities in the footwork, in
the those kind of things. You know.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
What's funny though Alexander has I believe thirty four inch arms.
I'm pretty sure he does. So he has long arms
that you like in the trenches, both believe it or not.
I think was measured at about thirty two, which is
usually frowned upon as a little shorter. But when you
watch his tape that doesn't stick out because he's got
the other traits that you're alluding to.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
Right, And I know people talk about, oh, he may
he may have to move into guard. I don't know.
I think he could play adequate enough to tackle. You know,
he reminds me of Paul, and I hate to do
comparison just for the sake of just for the sake
of argument. He reminds me of Zach Tom from the Packers.
Zach Tom wasn't a overly big player with the same
(28:37):
kind of bill, the same kind of lateral quickness, and
he's turned into a pretty good starting right tackle for
the Packers. So I'm not saying he's going to turn
into turn into that. Yeah, yeah, I'm not saying he's
going to turn into that, but he has that same
kind of profile. The Thomas foot don't pick. I liked
the one thing I've noticed with the Shane and Davill
err right now and maybe Paul maybe ogree disagree with me,
(29:01):
when it comes to tight end. It seems like they
really hone in on tight ends that have that that
high r RAS score. You know, at least in my opinion,
what I what I know, Bellinger.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
The track record is there. Yes, the track record is there.
You're correct.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
So you know, I don't know if he'll make the team,
especially with Bellinginger on the last year of his contract,
but apparently they see something in this kid. You know,
he catches the ball pretty good. He's a pretty good
route runner. Now he has to work on some his
run block in but I think a lot of the
stuff is technique and want to and he has the
frame to probably put on another five to ten pounds
(29:38):
of muscles. So that was a good trades pick. And
then the cam uh. You know, I talked to you
on Saturday about it. He was the surprising one. Not
in a bad way because I like him as a player,
Like I said, I'm a long hunch fan, and he
practically kept Arizona State in that game in the playoffs, So,
you know, not surprised because I thought, you know, there's
(30:00):
a running back. This running back class is so deep. Sure,
I was surprised we took went that high, but apparently
he was their number one guy on the board at
that time. And I'm fine with it. And another comparison,
I hate to do it. I know you brought up Brandon,
but to me, he reminds me more of a of
of the other legendary running back we had, which was Bradshaw.
(30:22):
Not a big guy, not fast, but more quick than fast,
and you're not bring you know, when watching Bradshaw, you
wasn't bringing him down with one arm, even at his size.
You know, he was running through guys. He was. He
was very hard to bring down, and Cam kind of
reminds me of Bradshaw in that way. Not more quick
(30:43):
than fast, but he's a He's a single and doubles hitter, right,
He's not a home runner like you.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
Know, that's for sure. Bradshaw and Jill Morris both had
incredible power below the hips and that's how they were
able to break a lot of arm tackles and to
bust through defenses. Scatibow has much more upper body strength,
and I think that, to me is the difference between
(31:10):
you may get the same result, you're going to get
guys running through defenders, but I think the upper body
strength is what separates Scataboo from me, and that's why
to me, it was insistent that the Giants, if they
go running back, which I had wanted them to, it
was a power back. I was not interested in any
other style of back. It needed to be. I know
(31:31):
John disagreed, he was on the other side of that,
but I felt the compliment to Tracy was more important.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
Right. And then the one last player, Paul, so, I
know you can get to other callers. He's a UDFA
And I heard the other caller bring him up was
Antoine Juice Well's the receiver from moments that Dark played with.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
Yeah, the caller brought him up. Were not allowed on
the program to discuss any of the undrafted guys until
they sign. Once they passed their physicals and signed, we
can discuss them.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
Okay, So I'll just I'll keep I'll keep him on
ice until.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
If you don't mind, Yeah, if you don't mind. And
the reason becoming because those things are reports and any
of the undrafted rookies could wind up maybe verbally agreeing
to a deal and then wind up actually going somewhere else,
conducting a physical and signing with another team, and then
all of a sudden, you don't have him. So that's
why we have to put that on the shelf until
(32:28):
such time I understand.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
And then the last point, since I can't talk, I
won't talk about willis I'm really hoping that this class,
And like I said, like I told you on Saturday, right,
these things have to be played out in training camp,
preseason and the games, right, So don't I don't want
to get to too you know, straight to the moon
with some of these projections, right, because things happen. Players
sometimes don't pan out, But we'll keep positive just for
(32:51):
the sake of argument. I'm hoping that this class, right,
and I'm not saying it has to be directly like
this class, but the class that came out right in
that eight season with the Bradshaw, the Boss Smith, they
weren't number round, they weren't first round picks, right.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Well, No, it was top to bottom that seven draft,
top to bottom gave the Giants immediate production bottom.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
But but I feel like sometimes in the NFL you
need to hit on some of these third round picks.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
You always do, not just sometimes it's valuable, I.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
Know, but sometimes the rate of it happening is such
it's not a high rate in my right, But I'm
really hoping that even for Shane because I like Shane
and I like Davill. Right, you know I'm not and
I know the NFL is a what have you done
for me in results business? I'm fully aware of that,
but I think their process has been good. Have the
results panned out in some of these players? They have it,
(33:48):
and that's fine. But the Cams, the the Marcus Bowles,
the Fedons, the Corey Blacks, the Davis Alexander's, these plays,
in my opinion, if these guys can hit right, if
they can really hit and make a real contribution, man,
the sky to me is the limit because I've always
(34:09):
said we have Now last year it didn't work out,
but in my opinion, we have some talent on this team. Right.
It comes down to injuries and everybody pulling together. So Paul,
thanks for taking my call and I'll listen off.
Speaker 2 (34:21):
Here all right, appreciate it. Thank you so much. To
A one nine three nine four five one three. John
is back.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
Sorry about that.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
Well. The question of the day is who is your
favorite pick of the Giants draft, who is your sleeper
pick of the Giants draft? And who was the best
value pick of the Giants draft. Okay, can we've been
doing can I wrap it? Fire it for you? Mine?
Speaker 3 (34:41):
Do it?
Speaker 4 (34:42):
Okay? Sleeper pick is Thomas Faedoni.
Speaker 9 (34:45):
I had a chance to talk to Marcus Sadderfield, who
was his OCA and tight ends coach and Nebraska that's
going to go off at some point next.
Speaker 4 (34:53):
Week, I believe, on the johnst podcast.
Speaker 9 (34:55):
And just spoke lowingly about the kid, and most importantly,
you know that role. They ran a pro offense there,
so they huddled NFL play calls. He played, why he
played in line? He goes look his and remember and
Sadderfield was with rule when he was a Carolina so he.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
Knows what the NFL is about.
Speaker 9 (35:12):
Oh sure, So he says, look, there's gonna be no
issue with him contributing quickly. Well, I would not be
surprised if he gets on the field much faster than
a normal seventh round pick would. He was the second
highest tight end recruit in his class when he went
to Nebraska. He moves really well. He's asked to block.
(35:35):
So that's that's my sleeper selection.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
He was mine too, But a scout told me, don't
be surprised if he's a red shirt for a year
because he missed so much time in college.
Speaker 9 (35:44):
Just two years though. Yeah, he's only played two seasons
in college.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
That has got to keep that in mind.
Speaker 9 (35:48):
Yeah, and what Saderfield told me, there should be no
concerns about him handling things mentally, Like they said, he's
a really smart kid and like coming off the ACLS, Paul,
they had to pull him out of practice in the
spring because he wanted to go.
Speaker 4 (36:02):
And that's just the personality is. So I came.
Speaker 9 (36:06):
I was. I was already bullish on him, but I
was even more bullish after I did that interview. I'm
gonna talk to Marcus Bostuh, offensive line coach from Perdue
this afternoon. That's going to go up either next week
or the following week. We're trying to book all these
interviews as we go.
Speaker 4 (36:18):
Here.
Speaker 9 (36:18):
Guys, that's my value pick. I had a third round
great on him to get him in the fifth round.
Speaker 4 (36:25):
You don't see.
Speaker 9 (36:26):
Guys that are six' four with thirty three inch, arms
that have feet like that get to the fifth round very.
Often you just.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
DON'T i Had Darius. ALEXANDER i think that's a good fit.
Speaker 4 (36:37):
Too but you know, what, though.
Speaker 9 (36:40):
You get a guy that you thought was a second
round pick in the top of the third. Round all,
right but he's like twenty picks.
Speaker 4 (36:45):
Off that's. Fine, yeah you, KNOW i think he's going.
Speaker 2 (36:48):
To give The giants more, snaps high quality, snaps certainly
quicker and who knows that long?
Speaker 4 (36:54):
Term, yeah but that's not but that's not the. Question
we're talking of value.
Speaker 9 (36:57):
Pick, Yeah Dorek's alexander will be better Than marcus both this,
YEAR i have no doubt a and maybe even for his.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
Career, Correct but that's WHY i went. There but that's the,
question is the. Value and you got value for me
third round to get a guy who could be an
impact defensive. Tackle, yeah, yeah BUT i mean you're looking
for wrong, Here. Johnny it's.
Speaker 9 (37:18):
Correct but the Reason i'm Going Marcus bow here is
that it's very rare to find the guy that has
frankly high level starting offensive line traits in round, Five David.
Deal it just doesn't happen very. Often, now he's got
a lot of work to do on, fundamentals play, strength
somelling things like, that and.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
There's work to.
Speaker 9 (37:34):
Do that's why that's why he got the round. Five
that's why he's a developmental, guy, Right, Yeah but to,
me that's. Value you just don't have traits of a
guy that can play offensive tackle lasts that. Long whether
he winds up a tackle or, not we'll. See he
might end up being a guartery of it a center
for that, Matter so wolf to wait and see how
that goes for. Him BUT i thought that was.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
Value Joe shane said that this, morning by the way About.
Center he was on with a serious set Of Fail
radio and he said this morning that they believe that
bo has the potential possibly to become a center down the.
Road that it's interesting you mentioned.
Speaker 9 (38:06):
That, YEAH i mean there was talk about that The
Senior bowl. Too Zach tom is my is my pro
comp for? Him Remember Zach tom was a tackle coming,
out really good.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
Athlete But qaula just mentioned.
Speaker 9 (38:15):
That but people didn't think he could be a tackle
on the pros in the packagers, like, no we're playing
him a tackle and it's worked out just. Fine so
that will be my comp for. Him and then favorite,
PICK i mean it has to Be Abdul. CARTER i,
MEAN i love.
Speaker 4 (38:30):
The Darius alexander.
Speaker 9 (38:31):
PICK i think he's gonna be a really good, Player
BUT i mean you can get potentially a guy that's
going to get twelve to fifteen sacks a year for
the rest of his.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
Career how could that not.
Speaker 6 (38:40):
Be my favorite?
Speaker 2 (38:40):
Pick?
Speaker 4 (38:41):
Cool that has to be my. Favorite picky as a monster.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
TWO a one, nine, three, nine four five, Three let's have.
It what do you got to?
Speaker 4 (38:47):
Do let's go To Stephen New. Jersey he's up next, Day. STEVE, O,
Hi hi are you?
Speaker 3 (38:52):
Guys we're.
Speaker 6 (38:52):
Good i've been a Lifelong giants. Man that is the
only Time i've ever called anybody, well.
Speaker 4 (38:59):
Thank, you we're CALLING, U. Steve what do you?
Speaker 9 (39:01):
Got?
Speaker 6 (39:02):
Uh all? RIGHT i just wanted to let you KNOW
i go back To chuck And Trollie. Cornelly so it's way.
Speaker 4 (39:08):
Back yet Another ole miss quarterback.
Speaker 6 (39:11):
State, Indeed, yes, YES i have a couple of. Comments
first of, All i'd be, curious as far as europ
teams are, concerned how how this New giant team with
the new draftees is going to affect or hopefully affect
(39:31):
the almost given losses in THE Nfl east AGAINST Uh
philadelphia and And. Dallas it almost seems like it's a
you know that it's a zero and four story zero
and poor record that they they have against those. Teams
they just can't get by and. Uh now with the
(39:54):
new quarterback In, WASHINGTON i don't even know if that's
going to add to, it BUT i that's one, question
is how do you think the new draftees are going
to a friend that given you, know breakthrough at least
that given Start giants to have in the last number of.
Speaker 8 (40:16):
Years what's your second?
Speaker 6 (40:18):
Question my questions and then get, Off, yeah that's.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
Yeah that.
Speaker 6 (40:21):
Works the second one is, is, UH i was very
impressed with scatombo or however you pronounced all, right and
UH i. WAS i was. WONDERING i read that his
uh combined running and uh pass catching was the second
(40:44):
uh last in his last. Year this was the second
total to the to the number one uh uh rated
back Uh and why why is? That why DID i
not influence more? People why did he end up going
in the fourth? ROUND i seem to me that that
(41:07):
was a very impressive, record AND i think he's going
to be somebody who uh who makes who is going
to be popular for The giants. FANS i even read
where he threw a touchdown and hen kicked some field,
Goal SO i, mean this guy is quite an amazing.
Guy and my last, comment it seems to me that
(41:31):
by now The giant should realize That neil is not
going to be a. Tackle it seems like he just
doesn't have to speed initially to stop the Faster. Russias
they just go by him before he can do. Anything
and why but, he on the other, hand he's big
(41:54):
enough and apparently uh skilled enough to be quite a good.
Guard and why it's taking so long for them to
try and at that, point at that. Position so those
those are the questions That i've. Had And i'll just
listen to, you. Guys, no thank, You, steve, great great.
Speaker 4 (42:14):
Call don't be a. Stranger please call back from me.
Speaker 2 (42:17):
AGAIN a lot Like Bill, pollian didn't He, yeah a little.
Speaker 9 (42:19):
Bit, actually wasn't that? Cool it was a little bit
Like Bill, pollyon you're, right all? Right, yes, WELL i
guess we'll work, backwards. Okay one On Evan. Neil it
sounds like they're gonna start working to mcguard this. Offseason,
now they'll do a little bit of. Both i'm sure
he'll back a couple of, spots but they're gonna start
to start working in. Mcguard and Like I've i've, been,
GUYS i have not been like hiding about. THIS i
think he is a chance to be a pretty darn good.
(42:41):
Guard Like i'm, More i'm even more autimistic about him
going to guard THAN i was About flowers going to
guard back in the.
Speaker 4 (42:46):
Day much more. Optimistic so better attitude for.
Speaker 9 (42:49):
Sure, WELL i think that's a big that's a big
part of, it, Right so, YES i think they will
AND i hope he is given a chance and he
has a chance to succeed.
Speaker 4 (42:59):
THERE i Think Evan neil.
Speaker 9 (43:01):
Cares he's a good, dude AND i think he's a
chance to be a good guard in The National Football.
League that's question number. One question number, Two Cam scataboo so.
Correct last Year ashton genty was third all times is
nineteen fifty. Six in collegiate yards from, scrimmage he had
twenty seven hundred and thirty. Nine, Well Cam scatabuu all
(43:22):
time is fourteenth at twenty three hundred and, sixteen and
he was second last. Year and that's WHAT i think
gets me excited About. Scataboo Johnny, mack you can screw.
Speaker 4 (43:30):
One more if you want a couple.
Speaker 9 (43:31):
More is that he's a bruiser between the, Tackles paul
and we love that part of his. Game he breaks
a ton of. Tackles but that dude can catch the. Football,
man he can catch the. Football he's a good receiver
out of the. Backfield he's a good football. Player so
that gets me excited about. Him and the reason he
(43:52):
dropped as far as he did WAS i think a
people wonder with his running, style how long is he gonna,
last you, know take such a beating because he loves
physicality so. Much go, back you, Know i'm gonna go.
Back i'm gonna sound Like Paul, now go back to Or?
Speaker 4 (44:07):
Campbell.
Speaker 9 (44:08):
Right Or campbell was maybe one of the best running
backs in football for five or six, years and then
his legs pretty much like fell.
Speaker 2 (44:13):
Off the crash test dummy thing does come into. Place it's.
Speaker 9 (44:17):
Real it's a real. Thing, now some guys can survive.
That but cam' scataboy's also not two hundred and forty five. Pounds,
no he's two, twenty, right so that that's not small
for running back, now but it's not to forty, either,
Right so.
Speaker 2 (44:30):
The fact that his frame's a little bit shorter will
help him.
Speaker 9 (44:33):
Some he's stock, here you, know it'll be tougher for
guys to get a good hit on.
Speaker 4 (44:37):
Him he's runs. Low he runs will.
Speaker 2 (44:38):
To help, him but it doesn't mean necessarily that he's
oblivious to.
Speaker 9 (44:41):
It i'm one thousand percent with you on. That so
that would be the scataboo. Question and then the first
question the speed thing. Too oh, Yes AND i didn't
say the. Speed the speed would knock him. Down he
ran in the Four, sexes so he gets.
Speaker 2 (44:52):
Caught from behind on long runs.
Speaker 9 (44:55):
And he doesn't pull away from. People, no he's, explosive he's.
Strong his short area stuff is, excellent Like Joe shane
talked to us about on The draft, show which is
the more important on the draft interview you did with,
him which is the more important, stuff by the, Way
but it's the top speed and people looking for burners,
now so he'll.
Speaker 2 (45:13):
Take good angles to make guys. Miss but you, know,
downfield forty yards, downfield he's gonna get.
Speaker 3 (45:18):
Caught.
Speaker 9 (45:18):
John, yes for some people it might be a sixty yard.
Run for, him it might be a twenty five yard.
Run and that's the. Difference and there are.
Speaker 2 (45:24):
A lot of teams who were going to favor that speed.
Factor and then the other thing is can he compliment
what you have in the? Room, yeah you, know and
The giants had had a need for this type of.
Speaker 9 (45:35):
Guy so, anyway and then, NO i THINK i HONESTLY i,
FORGOT i didn't mention it up all excellent. Point and
then number ONE Nfc east nfcast is really. Good it's
either the second or third best division in. Football it
could be the. BEST i, mean you're looking at THE Nfc,
north which just doesn't have a. Week the thing about
THE Nfc, north it just does not have a bad
(45:56):
team in. It you, know The bears had a bad,
record but they were not a bad team last. Year
they were not a bad. Team so they're good top
to bottom in THE Nfc. North THE Afc west has
become very good, now especially with The raiders Adding Gino,
smith who's a competent. Quarterback Sean payton's In, Denver Jim
harbaugh's and with The Chargers Andy reids with The. Chiefs
(46:17):
tough division lists the head, coaches just list the head,
coach And Pete carroll's in In.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
Vegas, yeah those are.
Speaker 9 (46:23):
FOUR i, MEAN i know three of those guys have
the chance to be A hall of.
Speaker 4 (46:28):
Famers mm hm.
Speaker 2 (46:30):
Agreed i'm just so glad The giants Aren't.
Speaker 9 (46:33):
Sean, Payton Andy, reid And Pete carroll all have real
chances to BE Nfl hall Of fame. Coaches, man and
they're all in the same. Division, NO i, KNOW i,
know and A bonnecks keeps. Progressing and we'll, say one,
year does not you, know make a? Quarterback make you
gonna have four good quarterbacks in that?
Speaker 4 (46:48):
Division?
Speaker 2 (46:48):
Two at least The giants only play two of those
teams instead of, three like if they were in that,
division they'd have to play all three of. Them, Correct,
well they're not Playing Kansas city this.
Speaker 4 (46:58):
Year, yes they are at. Home they played for all
four teams they.
Speaker 2 (47:01):
Played That they are Playing Kansas.
Speaker 4 (47:03):
City they played the.
Speaker 2 (47:04):
Year great year to be playing THE Afc. West and
by the, way looking at, it, now.
Speaker 4 (47:08):
You know the three DIVISIONS i just mentioned this could
be the best in.
Speaker 2 (47:10):
Football oh, yeah they're all on The.
Speaker 9 (47:12):
Giants Scare giants play all three of, them that's, Right
so that is fourteen of their. GAMES i just wanted
to throw that out, there FOR i forgot.
Speaker 2 (47:20):
About Kansas city coming. Here i've remembered The chargers and The,
broncos BUT i Forgot Kansas city.
Speaker 9 (47:25):
Was coming in The giants travel To vegas so well
could see scat uh those bags again it will Be
and then the other division that's really good IS Afc.
Speaker 4 (47:33):
North that would be the that would be the other.
Speaker 9 (47:34):
Division those are the those those those to me are
the four best divisions of.
Speaker 4 (47:37):
Football THE Fc.
Speaker 9 (47:38):
North again The browns in, there which kind of drags
it down a little bit with their quarterback, situation but
the other three teams are all.
Speaker 4 (47:43):
Excellent so and the.
Speaker 2 (47:46):
Times to the callers, Point philadelphia drafted. Well we believe
That dallas drafted fairly, well And washington with the trade
getting Deep O samuel And Marcus. Lattimore even though they're
draft they didn't have a lot of. Picks they made some.
Speaker 9 (47:59):
TRADE i, mean but we like we Like Josh connery
within the round, one and we Like trey almost at
the end of the round.
Speaker 2 (48:05):
Two so it's the whole good. Pick the whole division
probably got.
Speaker 9 (48:07):
Better, yeah THE Nfc east right now is very well,
run and that's a. PROBLEM i, mean The cowboys have
always drafted. Well you, know, say which want about What
Jerry jones does in free agency and you, know waiting
to sign guys and all that, Stuff but they've always
been a good drafting. Team won.
Speaker 4 (48:25):
Twelve wins three years in a.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
ROW i know.
Speaker 9 (48:28):
RECENTLY i Know, eagles they've been to a bunch Of Super,
bowls and now The commanders all of a sudden looked like.
Speaker 4 (48:33):
They were really well run.
Speaker 9 (48:34):
Organizations so remember one, thing, though.
Speaker 2 (48:36):
Those teams seem to have stocked up a bunch of
wins against The. Giants that, helps.
Speaker 9 (48:40):
WELL i mean to To steve's, point The, giant he,
says like every year you're kind of zing four against
The cowboys and The. Eagles he's not wrong about. That, no,
no and now that they were owing two against The
commanders last, year it's.
Speaker 2 (48:52):
Time it's time for that to start to. Change has
to do it absolutely.
Speaker 4 (48:56):
Has, to like has.
Speaker 9 (48:58):
To all, right we got two, calls was get them both.
In let's go To cliff In New. York, cliff you're up.
Speaker 4 (49:03):
Next Pw.
Speaker 10 (49:05):
Hey, guys how you doing?
Speaker 2 (49:06):
Right?
Speaker 10 (49:08):
Yeah this is this is great, Stuff. Manu my surprise
pick was the Whole day three because after after lighting
up the way they did in days one and, TWO i, said,
WELL i, guess, well just you, know who else did they?
Need who else could they possibly? Use you? Know and
then it starts off With. Scatterboo and WHEN i looked
(49:29):
him up a little, bit you, KNOW i had never
seen his, film and he reminded me Of travis at the.
End SO i looked up the size and he's got
ten pounds On travis and ONE i don't know about
the one inch height if that makes a. Difference so
if He'sn't eddie end was was was was not good
for us to be facing in our division last year
(49:51):
after coming over from THE Afc. West and and, Uh
i'm very excited about.
Speaker 9 (49:57):
Him click, click hold, ON i don't think you Mean
Travi trevor a T. M do you Mean Austin? Ekeler, yeah,
DIFFERENT i think you're.
Speaker 10 (50:04):
Right, different you're right the guy that came From San
diego that, Begins.
Speaker 9 (50:08):
Yes That's Austin. Eckler and THERE i. MEAN i Think
scataboo is a much more physical running back than that
one there, THERE i think stature, wise height, wise and
they both think they can both catch the. Ball And
eckler also ran in the four, sixes so that's all,
Correct But skataboo is a more physical running back and.
Speaker 4 (50:27):
Different echolo relies on his quickness more Than.
Speaker 10 (50:30):
Scatabay absolutely But scataboo looks as quick As eckler.
Speaker 4 (50:35):
Close i'm not sure if he's quite that, quick but he's, close.
Speaker 10 (50:37):
Yeah close enough to make me, think is that guy all?
Right either? Way within the room of the running, BACKS i, think,
WELL i guess he takes Uh cam takes some running
play snaps away from last year's fifth Round.
Speaker 9 (50:57):
Hero trace two years, Ago Eric, Oh tracy from last,
YEAR i Mean tracy And, scataboo and then you could
Throw Devin, singletary Who i'm sure they're still gonna try
to uy in some. Way they're they're gonna they're gonna
split the, carry So Tyrone, Tracy fantasy football owners might
not be, happy but it's but it's gonna help The, Giants.
Speaker 2 (51:16):
Cliff they don't have a single back on this roster
who's going to carry the ball twenty five times a.
Game they just. Don't that's not the way it's trying to.
Speaker 4 (51:23):
BE i might even get the. Eighteen, yeah you know
it's not gonna.
Speaker 3 (51:25):
Be.
Speaker 10 (51:26):
No beltick Wasn't buffalo when they first started to get really, good,
either was.
Speaker 2 (51:30):
It?
Speaker 9 (51:31):
No And, cliff we talked about this is only six
or seven teams in the whole league that have Won
belcow running back now six or seven teams in the whole.
Speaker 4 (51:37):
League that's.
Speaker 10 (51:38):
It, well BUT i was also thinking of the touchdown
That i'm blanking out on his name that the last
year's fifth round we just named them, Again Tracy uh
in The indianapolis, victory he catches a touchdown pass in
the back of the end. Zone and WHEN i remember
looking at that AND i, say, boy he sure looked
(51:59):
like a wide receiver.
Speaker 8 (52:01):
On That what it?
Speaker 7 (52:01):
Was you?
Speaker 4 (52:02):
Know, WELL i mean that's why we.
Speaker 10 (52:04):
See more of him that way out of the. Backfield
and there's that. Change when you guys talk about that eleven.
Thing you know how many wideouts are on the, field
there's another wide out in the.
Speaker 4 (52:15):
Backfield, now ye appreciate the.
Speaker 9 (52:18):
Call, look, Yeah tracy was a former wide receiver in,
college as we, know and he can catch the. Football
and WHAT i love about this running back, combination even
though their styles are a little bit different in terms
of how they run, it they can both do. Everything
so this is not, like all, right, Well tracy's gonna
be on the field for first and second down and
scataboo on third down Or scataboy's going to be your
(52:38):
early down Back tracy on third. Down you can literally
just rotate. Series you're, like all, right this is A scataboo,
series and already happens to carry it six or seven
times and he needs a, breathe and then you can
Bring tracy. In, Sure but you can literally just hand
the series to either, guy because they can handle, running
they can handle, receiving they can handle pass. Protection they
can run, inside they can run. Outside they can do
(52:58):
everything both these, guys and so Can, singletary to be
honest with, You so you can literally just split up
the game into series and, say all, right this is
A scattabu, series this is A tracy.
Speaker 4 (53:08):
Series let's rock and.
Speaker 2 (53:09):
Roll i'll tell you one. THING i don't think we'll
See john And i'm pretty sure you're going to be
on board with me.
Speaker 4 (53:14):
On This scataboo as a. Punter, no he did punter
like twelve. TIMES i make a.
Speaker 2 (53:19):
JOKE i know somebody tweeted me and suggested that why
don't we see more snaps Of tracy as a wide? Receiver,
no AND i, said, no that's not going to. HAPPEN i,
mean you could.
Speaker 9 (53:31):
Both book the. Milk they did like Putting singletary And
tracy on the field last.
Speaker 2 (53:34):
Year you could go empty backfield right and possibly get
him out, there or you.
Speaker 9 (53:39):
Could do pony and you could put both guys in the.
Speaker 4 (53:40):
Backfield BUT i.
Speaker 2 (53:41):
Don't See tracy lining up as a. Receiver, no not
as a standard. Receiver, NO i don't see that.
Speaker 4 (53:47):
HAPPENING i agree with.
Speaker 2 (53:48):
That you, know they made him a running back for a.
Reason he's a running back, here.
Speaker 9 (53:51):
Mammy he was made OF i, mean he wasn't exactly
a productive wide receiver In. Iowa then, Again iowa doesn't
create many high product the wide receivers because they don't
tend to throw the ball for What.
Speaker 4 (54:02):
Iowa but that is what it. Is all.
Speaker 9 (54:05):
Right let's wrap things up With john And Staten. Island,
john you're On Big Blue Kickoff.
Speaker 4 (54:09):
Lives how are you? Pale?
Speaker 3 (54:10):
Good?
Speaker 7 (54:11):
Good first of, ALL i just wanted to thank you
guys for the great work you've done over the last
couple of. Weeks it's been. Outstanding thank, You.
Speaker 4 (54:18):
John i've gone to other.
Speaker 7 (54:19):
Teams, websites Particularly, cleveland to see what they were thinking
about before the. Draft they have nothing on their websites
that we are so lucky to have you not even?
Speaker 4 (54:30):
Believable, Well, john thank. YOU i appreciate. That that, me
it means a lot every.
Speaker 2 (54:35):
Time thank.
Speaker 7 (54:35):
You second, thing for anybody who's who's not in favor
Of Jackson dark coming to The, giants watch The manga
cast With Charlie weis And Bob poppa to guys Who
giants fans should certainly.
Speaker 9 (54:51):
Trust, Well, john you don't have to go to The manta.
Speaker 4 (54:53):
Cast just tune in The Big Blue. Kickoff just tune into.
Speaker 7 (54:56):
Interview yeah, great there you.
Speaker 3 (54:59):
GO i listened to it three.
Speaker 4 (55:01):
Times thank.
Speaker 2 (55:02):
You, wow how about?
Speaker 7 (55:03):
That and then, thirdly go on YouTube and look up
To John gruden but that he did With Jackson. Dark
and if that doesn't convince you That John bruden doesn't
know a good quarterback when he sees, one, RIGHT i
think you'd. BE i think you need to move To. Portland. Me, now.
Speaker 1 (55:22):
That's.
Speaker 4 (55:23):
Funny well you don't understand the.
Speaker 9 (55:25):
Joke oh you are friends right over your. Head you
gotta be a little bit.
Speaker 2 (55:29):
Quick it took about half half a second too long
to get to the.
Speaker 4 (55:35):
Three seconds to the. Receptor.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
Yeah, anyway, anyway the two things that.
Speaker 7 (55:42):
Do still concern me, Though one is we draft well.
Right one of the Things gruden said was when when
a wide receiver when somebody what he was talking about
was illegal motion or uh, Offside but, anyway he was
(56:03):
saying that if an offensive lineman moves before the, snap
it's not only the offensive lineman's.
Speaker 8 (56:08):
Fault it's the coach's.
Speaker 7 (56:10):
Fault how we could line up a receiver five times
off side last year is concerning to. ME i kind
of wonder where the coach is after three. Times i'm
glad they changed the receiver the defensive back coach BECAUSE
i thought that that was a. Weakness and so, ANYWAY
(56:30):
i think That George, Shane Joe shane needs to think
about development and player development a little more as we move.
Along he seems to have the draft thing, down, Pas
let's move on to now developing these players and they
play above their draft. Level and the third thing, is
let's suriously take a look at all of the other
(56:54):
teams and how they handle injuries and physical. Training somebody's
at the top for the. List somebody has the leased
the amount of injuries in THE. Nfl what are they
doing that we're Not because we cannot continue to have
good teams if we're always. Injured, anyway that's my comments that,
today guys are. GREAT i love.
Speaker 8 (57:15):
You let's take the rest off.
Speaker 4 (57:19):
Line, Awesome thank, You, john have a great day.
Speaker 9 (57:21):
Now The giants soft tissue injuries weren't that bad last.
Speaker 2 (57:23):
Year, no they had a lot of structural.
Speaker 9 (57:25):
Stuff And i'm not gonna go nuts on The Andrew
thomas and that that that's a freak injury at the
start of the year where he's. Sprinting you, know no
one's training and offensive tackle to sprint forty yards that
no one's training in that, Way.
Speaker 4 (57:36):
So that that that was some bad.
Speaker 9 (57:38):
Luck but the thibodaum injury was a broken, HAND i,
mean like rist whatever it. WAS i, mean you, know,
what what are.
Speaker 2 (57:45):
You gonna do about? That and by the, way this
team for, years.
Speaker 4 (57:48):
Most neighbors is injury at the end of the.
Speaker 2 (57:50):
Year neighbors at one point had a. Concussion it was a.
Speaker 4 (57:53):
Concussion that's what kept them.
Speaker 2 (57:54):
Out that's, RIGHT i, mean what are you gonna?
Speaker 4 (57:55):
Do that's?
Speaker 2 (57:55):
Right, Correct but BUT i think it's important to note
that for years The giants have been snake bit with.
Injuries this goes back not just one or, two this
goes back at least a half a dozen and they
have gone through every study that you could possibly find
from here To. Timbuctoo, yeah and and you, know so
don't think it's for lack of, trying because they. Have
(58:17):
they have really dug deep to find out what they
could do that might enhance the health of this. Team
and they go through it every off. Season, yeah they.
Speaker 4 (58:28):
Do i'm with.
Speaker 9 (58:29):
You but look last year they did make Some they've
had people coming in and out in terms of like
strength and conditioning and stuff like, that and they have you,
know moved people in and out of that. Group SO
i think they got back to what was working a
few years, ago and they really had a Downtick paul
(58:49):
in terms of soft tissue, injuries AND i think that
will help moving forward as they try to you, know
revamp some of that in terms of what they're. Doing
SO i think they're on the right on the right path,
there to be honest with. You you, know we'll see as
they moved forward if that ends up being the. Case
but you, Know Aaron wellman is a guy who did
(59:10):
a really nice job when he was here the first
time before he went back To, indiana and they did
cut their soft titchy stuff way down when he was
here the first. Time, oh he returned last, year AND
i think you saw another down tick in the soft tissue.
Stuff you're never gonna. Hurt you're never gonna save knee.
Injuries if a guy gets rolled up, on you're never
gonna saved. Ankles that Was, runyon, right wasn't running an
ankle at the end of the year like he got
(59:30):
rolled up on. Hacks, yeah it got hyper extended when
he got quantum pile like there's there's there's nothing you
can do about that sort of, stuff, Right the soft
tissue injury, stuff, yes there are things you can, do
like the endless like is Heizo? Jali like did he
have the calf injuries last? Year no he did, not
like he had a couple of years. Ago SO i
think they're on the right path with. That and keep
(59:55):
your fingers crossed because you can do all the right
things and guys can still get.
Speaker 8 (59:57):
Hurt.
Speaker 2 (59:58):
Right it's a tough. Game it is what it. Is
as far as the assistant, COACHES i want you to
understand something. Too player development is not just on the.
Coaches it's also on the players. Too they have to
be receptive to everything that they're being, taught they have
to understand. It they have to have the desire and
the willpower to go through and follow all the. Directions
so you, Know i'll be. Honest Jerome, henderson who you
(01:00:21):
know has since left The giants now the change was made.
There you AND i both, Agree, john he's one of
the FINEST dB coaches that we've ever. Known he's very
good and you, know so don't don't necessarily automatically not
the assistant coach for whatever disconnect there may have been.
There it doesn't always go on.
Speaker 9 (01:00:38):
Him and remember, too he wasn't one Of Shane bonen's guys.
Either he's somebody That Shamee boen inherited when he got.
Speaker 2 (01:00:43):
Here and coordinators are always entitled by the head coaches
to name as many staff members as they want.
Speaker 9 (01:00:48):
To, Remember henderson was up for that defensive coordinator and
then he got the passing game, coordinator right.
Speaker 4 (01:00:55):
Is that he?
Speaker 9 (01:00:55):
Got he got bumped a little bit, there so you,
know times it, works sometimes it. DOESN'T i Think Carmen
brisillo is a really good developer of talent on the offensive.
Line looks Like mike grow has been great a wide.
Speaker 4 (01:01:08):
RECEIVER i think we have a lot of respect for
the job he does out.
Speaker 9 (01:01:10):
There so and of Course Andre patterson is one of
the best defensive line coaches.
Speaker 4 (01:01:14):
In the whole.
Speaker 9 (01:01:15):
League so and look what and look what Eggs john
Of grogru who has done With mike. McFadden i'm when
don't come along as a player at. Linebacker SO i
do think they have some good developmental. Coaches we saw
last year's class and and and how they've.
Speaker 4 (01:01:28):
Developed oh look.
Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
At, tracy Now Joe thomas, left, correct but you, know
look look What Tyrone tracy. Did they converted wide receiver
and he was dark.
Speaker 9 (01:01:38):
Good and if there's one, Thing iowa cranks out running
and that's Where Ladell betts came.
Speaker 3 (01:01:43):
From.
Speaker 4 (01:01:43):
Exactly they can't pass the, ball LIKE i, mentioned but they.
Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
Can and that is The Ladell bets who played for
The washington Then. Redskins that's, Correct so you know you
know what he's all.
Speaker 9 (01:01:54):
About, yes, Correct And Tim kelly is an excellent tight ends.
Speaker 2 (01:01:57):
Coach so so it's good. Staff so please be careful
when you talk about the. Development there's a lot of
factors that go into.
Speaker 9 (01:02:03):
That and again from those first Two Joe shane draft
classes have guys not developed as quickly as maybe some
people would have.
Speaker 4 (01:02:09):
Liked we totally get, that we.
Speaker 9 (01:02:10):
Understand but that could be player, related coach, related it
could be, both depending on what the situation. Is we're
not gonna make those value, judgments but, yeah, look you
have to draft and development in order to be successful
in The National Football. League so all, right, everybody thanks
for being with. Us did you plug The Giants tottle
