two o one nine three nine four five one three
(00:44):
and we will talk Giants football with you for the
next hour. You could also go to Twitter at hashtag
Giants chat and John, are we live on YouTube again today?
Indeed we are. So you could always go to the
Giants YouTube channel, stream the show live there and be
afraid to throw up some comments there in the live chat.
We will also address those as well. Paul Deatino, Matt
(01:07):
Sidtek with you today. The Giants were off they had
a walk through. They will be back for a fully
padded practice tomorrow, then a carded practice on Thursday, where
they just go through a walkthrough of some specific plays
that they're going to be using for themselves in the
game on Saturday, as they open the preseason in Buffalo.
Then on Friday, they will actually travel to Buffalo and
(01:30):
then have the game Saturday at one o'clock. But that
right now is not on our minds. What is on
our minds today is what we're going to do for
the next hour. The Giants have released their unofficial depth chart.
You guys know how I feel about those things, but
there are a couple of small items that I do
think we should at least mention. The depth chart is
(01:51):
put out by the public relations department, is not put
out by the coaching staff. It is not anything to
be confused with as being official at all. However, as
we know, Andrew Thomas has been dealing with rehab for
his foot at least the Giants' dep chart and many times.
By the way, when you see the preseason depth chart,
(02:12):
it'll be the projected week one depth chart, and people
won't even take the time In the public relations department
or the media relations department to consider what has happened
during the spring or summer camps. That's not true here
at the Giants. The Giants pr staff is all over it.
They've been out there, they've been watching the practices. And
Andrew Thomas is not on the Giants' depth chart that
(02:36):
came out today, and so that just tells you that
these guys are doing their job and they're on top
of things. Their eyes are open. Andrew Thomas is not
the starting left tackle this weekend against the Bills, no surprise.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
I mean, look with this unofficial depth chart, and I
cannot emphasize this enough. Unofficial. This is not coming directly
like from coach Dable. This is unofficial. I'm gonna say
a million more times over the next hour to make
sure I hammer the point down. But yeah, the guys
that are listed on this unofficial depth chart are the
(03:12):
guys that have been out at practice. If a guy
is not out there practicing, which if you're on the
pup list, you're not out there practicing, You're not gonna
find that guy's name on this unofficial depth chart. That's
just the way we do it around here. Honestly, that's
the way you should do it because you're going into
a game week. You have the guys that are officially,
(03:32):
you know, able to practice available to you. The guys
that aren't practicing on the pup list are obviously not
going to be suiting up because they're not allowed to
suit up while they're on the pup list.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
So it makes sense to do it this way.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
But yeah, again unofficial, So do not get all worked
up if you see some player you think that should
be the starter and he's currently the number two. You know,
Abdul Carter is listed as the backup to Brian Burns
on the outside linebacker position.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Don't.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
I don't want you to see that and think, oh
my god, the Giants have Abdul Carter as a reserve,
because that's not necessarily the case. So, you know, just
take everything here with the great assault because it is unofficial.
It's the preseason. I would say the week one depth chart,
which again will be unofficial when we get to that
point in a month, that will, I would say, carry
(04:24):
a little more water than this one, might, you know,
heading into the preseason opener.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Now I will direct your attention to the right guard
spot where one Evan Neil at this moment is listed
as a backup to Greg van Roten. Now, Greg just
had a baby. In fact, he's talking to the media
right now. Oh, his wife had a baby. I'm sorry,
it would be painful if he did. In any event,
(04:52):
the Van Rotens. Congratulations to them. It's their second child,
a little girl, I believe, just what he had and
so he was just telling them, madea how grateful he
is to be local and that he could actually be
there for the delivery. So congratulations to them. Marvelous, marvelous
that it worked out for him. He didn't have to
fly across country and get out of camp to be
able to see the birth of his child. So that's
(05:15):
that's a great situation. And by the way, that's one
of the reasons he signed here last year. He told us, Yeah,
that one of the reasons he continued his career and
signed the deal with the Giants was because he's from
Long Island. He wanted to be local.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
Yeah, I mean, this is year two now, so no
one's asking him the same questions as they.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Did last year.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
But yeah, that was a very big talking point when
he first signed here, was at the beginning of August
last year. We were like about a week or ten
days in a training camp when he signed, and yeah,
he mentioned, you know, he's from Long Island. Being local
was a very very significant factor in him deciding to
sign here last year, and obviously would assume that it
played a big role in him deciding to re sign
(05:53):
here as well. Obviously everyone would love to be close
to home. So yeah, great for him, it all worked out.
Congratulations to his family.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
So to finish out what has been listed for the
starting offensive line, Van Roten is at right guard right now,
ahead of Neil, and they've also listed, of course James
Hudson as the left tackle because he's taken the most
reps there.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Yeah, but just in terms of the right guard spot,
I don't think this comes as a surprise to us
going into the first preseason.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Oh no, this is what we were expecting.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
And Neil's taken more snaps than Van Roten has so
far in the summer.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
Yeah, I mean part of that was because Greg missed
those three practices. Yeah baby, yeah, But yeah, point being
we all we've said this for months now the preseason, well,
first when the Pats came on a training camp, but
then really when the preseason game start is when Evan
Neil will really get a chance to show how much
he's grown and how much he's I guess developed into
(06:48):
this right guard spot. That will be his chance to
really prove himself and try to.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Earn that starting spot.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
It wasn't never gonna happen during practice, because we've talked
about he's looked good. Practice doesn't matter until the actual
games start happening and he does it in a game
against another opponent. So this Saturday will be his first
chance to show the coaches that but he can do
it right guard.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
There will be those in the final actual depth chart
comment to make. There will be those who are going
to make an awful lot out of the fact that
Banks and flot are both listed as dual starters at
the cornerback spot opposite pulse of the debo. Go ahead,
make out of it what you will. I'm telling you
(07:34):
what it is Banks. It's his job to lose. It's
really that simple. Now. Of course, if he does not
perform like he's supposed to, he could fritter the job away.
We've discussed this. He could lose the job. He could
lose the job. But it is his job. Right now
and as long as he does what he's got to do.
(07:55):
But to this point he and Flott have split a
ton of the reps. So I understand why they put
it that way on the chart. I just don't want
people to get carried away.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
In previous years we have listed players the same sort
of way. All it represents really is that there is
a true competition.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
I know you may not.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
Think it's it's such a competition or it's leading one way,
but regardless, it's a prodding, is what it is.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
That is all that.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
Means that the coaching staff, even in unofficial capacity the
PR department, no one is ready to declare one guy
further along, as you know, leading as the starter than
the other at the time. And newsflash, this is happening
with teams across the league. There is a certain quarterback
competition in Indianapolis where they have the two the top
(08:46):
two top guys listed exactly the same way that the
Giants have Deontay Banks and Cordell Flatt listed.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
You'll see it with teams across the NFL. It's not
not breaking news.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
It's not any I don't hold any significance to that
because that is another spot where these guys are gonna
have to show it in games, and then joint practices
with the Jets. That'll be a good opportunity for both
of those guys in a non game setting. And honestly,
we've spoken about it before, we'll talk about it more
going into those practices next week.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
Those joint practices are those reps you get just as valuable,
if not more valuable than the preseason reps.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Well, the twelfth and the thirteenth, when the Giants and
Jets will go at it in Florham Park and then
here in East Wellerford, that's two days worth of snaps
against an opponent. Now, again, even if you only play
in a preseason game, you know how many snaps you're
gonna play in that game. If you get two full
days against an opponent, that's why the joint practices have
(09:45):
become so valued in recent years.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
Yeah, one hundred percent. So you know some in the
preseason game.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
But I'm really keeping an eye on those practices next week,
especially against the Jets, who obviously have some talent across
the offense. So that'll be a good opportunity for those
two guys at corner to sort of at least attempt
to separate themselves from the other one. I do agree
that if I had to guess right now, I would
(10:13):
say my guess is Deontay Banks would be starting opposite
pulse to a debo. But at the same time, a
month from now, it would not shock me if Cordel
Flott is the starter.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Shock is the word I use.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
I still think it will be Banks, But Cordell's played
pretty well in the first two weeks of camp.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
It would not show really good camp.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
Yeah, it would not shock me at all if he
If he does end up winning that spot, and even
if he does, that doesn't mean that Deontay Banks is
just going to be banished to the bench. He will
get his opportunity. Still, it's not in these unofficial depth charts.
Nothing is set in stone.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
It changes week to week.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
There's a reason why each one of these is released
each and every week throughout the season because it can change.
So even if Deontay does not win it originally doesn't
mean that will be the case for seventeen games.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
Now. I think it's important to note, and we just
told you about two of the corners. Tyler Nuben had
already spoken to the media a little bit earlier before
this program began, and he was asked something that I
think is very appropriate because you and I had this
very conversation a couple of days ago on BBKL. Somebody
(11:21):
said to him, with all the hype that your pass
rushers are getting, it looks like your secondary could wind
up being pretty dawn good this year too. How do
you guys feel about not getting that kind of attention
when everybody is piling it on the front and not
really talking much about the secondary. Right we just talked
about this, didn't we Yeah? Okay. So Nuban's answer, and
(11:42):
I thought this was really good. He goes, the guys
know what they have in the defensive backs room, and
they don't need too many people talking about them, and
these guys are hungry. That's the exact approach he needs
to take, and the exact approach those guys need to.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
You know that. It reminds me of that reminds me
of the Giants teams under coach Coughlin. Sure, he did
not want anyone talking about the Giants as front runners
or contenders. He wanted the Giants to sort of be
in the background and come the start of the season
each and every Sunday that is when the Giants would
do their talking, and sounds like Nuben has the same
(12:21):
exact mindset. May maybe those visits from coach Coughlin has
been rubbing off on the team, which we can only
hope that's the case, because I know it can only
mean good things.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Nuben was also asked about the overall hype that's being
given to this defense, and again, to paraphrase, he said,
the mentality from the beginning of camp is that we
have to earn it and we have to work for it,
trying to get better every day, play in every game
this season, and the guys are absolutely focused and ready
to go. Again, not buying any of the newspaper clippings,
(12:54):
which in this isolated instance have actually been good. People
are talking very well, very highly. They're saying very positive
things about the Giants defense, more specifically the front seven,
but as a whole, the defense has been getting some
very pleasant commentaries from people around the country. They don't
(13:15):
say that about the whole team. In fact, in spite
of the good defense, they seem to say the Giants
will be terrible. Okay, Well, Nuban says, they're not reading
any of those press clippings anyway.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
Well, I mean that does not surprise me in the
slightest bit that Nuben is saying this, because Dexter Lawrence
and Brian Burns have been reittering this message since the
start a camp, honestly going back to the spring. They
have been saying, you know, media is talking all this.
I'm not going to use their exact words because we're
a family friendly program.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Is how about that?
Speaker 4 (13:47):
They can say all they want and you know, put
all this praise on us, but we have not done
anything yet. It does not matter until we go out
on Sundays and prove it in a game. Until that happens,
everything else is just talk. And that was coming from
Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns, who are probably not probably
are the two most accomplished players on this defense in
(14:09):
terms of their individual accomplishments and feats over the recent years. Yeah,
and it is coming from them. So it's coming from
the top of this defense down. And so Tyler Nuben,
who from all reports, everything we've heard from all his
teammates and coaches, has very much been stepping up as
a leader despite the fact that it's only a second
year in the NFL. The fact that he is reiterating
(14:31):
this same exact message does not surprise me in the least.
That means that that message from Dex and Burns seems
to really be sticking with everyone on the defense, which
is a good thing because you don't want it doesn't
matter how much talent you have on paper, you don't
want your defense going into this season thinking, oh, we're
you know, we're hot stuff. No one's gonna score on us. No,
you want to go out, as Tyler Nuben said, come
(14:55):
out hungry and prove to people that that talk that
they're putting you all those praises, that is worthier, that
the defense is worthy of it.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
First, all right, now, the other item. Brian Dable was
asked again for the five gazillionth point seventy five trillionth
time about how many snaps his offense and his regulars
and his starters will take against the Bills. Brian said,
for exactly the same number of times that he's been asked,
(15:27):
that his staff is going to continue talking about it
and they'll figure it out later in the week. Obviously,
that will be after the writers get their chances to
ask their questions. Now. He did, however, say this presee
again paraphrasing preseason snaps or for the veterans, and they
present a different value for each team. He said, there's
(15:49):
no right formula. You do what's best for your specific team.
He said, we talk about it as a staff, and
there is no substitute for playing in the game, but
you have to balance that against the injury risk. So
he understands the question. It's a calculation that him and
his guys are going to figure out and then come
(16:12):
to a decision. He has not been one to play
his starters since he's gotten here. I can't tell you
what he's going to do against Buffalo until I'm in
Buffalo and we're actually calling the game. He's not going
to let anybody know.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
And you know why, he doesn't have.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
To let anybody know because, as we know, things are
different in the preseason where there are no required injury reports,
so you don't have to say so and so is out.
He's not starting because he's hurt, or he's questionable, or
whatever the case may be. In the preseason, you don't
have any of that. So that's why it is. And
(16:50):
I know most of the scribes are very frustrated by this,
but that's just the way it is. So folks don't
ask about who's starting again Buffalo or what does it mean,
because we have nothing for you.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
Yeah, I have no idea who's gonna start, who's gonna play,
how much they're gonna play. I have zero confidence of
being able to make any declarations on that. I am
very confident in saying that we will not hear anything
of that sort from coach Dable prior to the game
on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
There's no doubt.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
This is now his fourth season, and I don't I
can't remember one going into one preseason game the last
three seasons where he actually shared, oh, yeah, you know,
we're gonna play the starters X amount of series or
drives maybe a quarter.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
No, he's not gonna share that information. You know.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Maybe maybe when he speaks to the media on Thursday,
if there are a couple of guys that are hurt
and he knows for sure there's no chance they're gonna
suit up Thomas, maybe yeah, like maybe he will tell
us that, like, those handful of guys are not gonna play.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
That's about the.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
Only information we're going to get out of Coach Dable
prior to kickoff. Now, in the preseason, you know sometimes
Bob Poppa on the radio broadcast, you will get some
sort of you know, information on who's not gonna suit up.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
This week Now it's my radio broadcast this weekend.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
You might get that information, but you're not going to
get that or at least to be able to share
it until, like the game is actually correct. So that's
not that I know before kickoff, is my point.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
You are right, Bobby. Bobby will be on the TV
with Banks, Sims, Bruce Beck, and Howard Cross, and I'll
have Sean o'hana and Madelin Brook on the radio side
on wfa N coming up on Saturday. Okay, let's go
quickly to a phone call and Ryan from Illinois, you
are going to be first on Big Blue Kickoff Live today.
Speaker 5 (18:50):
Hello, Hey there, how are we doing today?
Speaker 2 (18:53):
Very well, sir? How are you?
Speaker 3 (18:54):
What's up? Brian?
Speaker 6 (18:55):
Pretty good? I've got a couple of things for you. So, firstly,
John was making a point about the wide receiver too
maybe not existing on this team. Do you guys think
that it's too much to put that kind of a
workload on CEO Johnson? Or do you think he's ready
for that kind of next step.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Well, I've discussed this many times. If the Giants don't
have what they believe to be a go to guy
after neighbors in the wide receiver room, THEO Johnson could
wind up being that next go to guy. You could
use him as a big slot. You could do that, Yeah,
and you could wind up throwing him sixty five passes
and he might wind up catching nine hundred yards worth
(19:37):
of passes. It's not unreasonable. Today's NFL, you've get tied
ends who have not become either the first or second
option in the passing game. That is not unheard of.
I don't think that's going to happen. I'm I'm probably
gonna be You're probably gonna be on my page with this.
(19:58):
It'll probably still be one of the I think the
Giants would like their second option to be another receiver.
But if it's not, I do think Johnson has the
ability to maybe step into that role if he has to.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
I do think THEO can and probably will play a
big role in the passing game this year. It would
not surprise me at all if he has, you know,
fifty plus sixty plus receptions.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
That would not surprise me.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
But at the end of the day, I don't think
the Giants are gonna have, you know, maybe like a
solidified traditional number two wide receiver. But come the end
of the season, if everyone says healthy, my guess is
Wandell Robinson probably will be second on the team in
receptions behind the league and I had to guess, Darius
(20:44):
Slayton would probably be second in receiving yards behind Malik.
So you know, there might not be like a top
one to two combo on the Giant atop the Giants
wide receiver depth chart like other teams across the NFL do,
But I don't think that necessarily matters. If you have
guys that are able to catch the ball in different ways,
(21:04):
I don't think you necessarily need that, you know, bona
fide number two wide receiver, because Darius Layton obviously brings
some specific traits to the passing game, as does Wandel Robinson,
Theo Johnson. As you mentioned, we've talking at length about
how the running backs we think are going to be
pretty big parts of the passing game as well. We've
already seen it in camp. All the running backs have
(21:26):
made numerous catches in during team drills and on play,
not just like scrambled drolls, like legitimate you know routes
that they are running.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
Yeah, the quarterbacks are hitting them.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
So I don't think there's gonna be you know, that
traditional one two wide receiver duo at the top of
the depth chart. But as I mentioned, between Darius Layton
and Wandel Robinson, those guys are going to play very
big roles in the offense and in the passing game.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Now, I would caution you, and I'm going to go
really deep here. This is not a by any means
fantasy football comment, but it's a football comment which is
much more relevant than any fantasy football comment could possibly be.
And that is this because of Russell Wilson's diminutive size.
We know he's not very tall. We've talked about how
the front of the pocket can get very clouded and
(22:17):
very dirty, especially if there's any pressure coming from the
defensive front. That does restrict the amount of times that
Wilson's gonna throw the ball over the middle or down
the seam, which is mostly where your tight ends like
to go. Your tight ends they love to do the
seam route. They love to do the short crosses over
(22:38):
the middle. Those are very popular tight end routes. Now,
if the Giants cannot use their offensive line to protect
those passing lanes correctly, and they're forced to use a
lot of rollouts and a lot of stuff to the perimeter,
because that's where Wilson has the cleanest amount of passing lanes,
(22:58):
then it is possible that your tight end will not
necessarily compile big time receiving numbers. And that has nothing
to do with the tight end. It will have to
do with the effectiveness of how the Giants are keeping
certain passing lanes open for him. This is deep football stuff.
This isn't fantasy football stuff, but it can apply to
(23:22):
the stuff that you're talking about. You know, if you're
looking for him to catch eighty passes, you know, with
the Giants offensive line, what it is, I don't think
that's gonna happen. Okay, So that is something you do
kind of want to keep in mind. The beauty of THEO.
Johnson and Russell Wilson's talked about this. THEO is a
very large target. He has long.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
Arms, six foot six, six' five at least RIGHT i
don't know what they're listening him, as but we've stood
next to him.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Yeh and he's got long, arms so he does have
a large catch radius which helps him in that. Regard
but nonetheless the front of the pocket that's gonna. DETERMINE
i think a lot of the quote, opportunities if you,
will That johnson might have between the hash, marks well
(24:11):
between the. Numbers wilson's got to be able to see him.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
Clearly the only Thing i'll say to, that because everything
you just said was honestly a slight CONCERN i had
About Russell wilson since he got brought.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
In you Should we've been talking about it for, months.
Speaker 4 (24:26):
BUT i will say the let you, know it's we're
almost two weeks into training. Camp that has not been
an issue the first two weeks of training. Camp not,
yet not, again not, yet but he has.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
Been completing passes over the.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
Middle there have been a handful of plays Where Russell
wilson completes a pass in traffic to one of his
pass catchers over the middle WHERE i turned to you
or To Dan salamon on the sideline And i'm, like
how the heck did he get that pass?
Speaker 3 (24:55):
There it has not been an issue so.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
Far, now granted it's two weeks of, practice not game,
settings but that what you just mentioned to, me that
has not really been a concern Because Russell wilson has
been completing passes to every single part of the field
over the first two weeks of camp and has not
had an issue with any particular, area which AGAIN i
(25:17):
was a little concerned about his passing over the. Middle
so far he has shown me not much to be concerned.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
About this is part of that show me list of
questions that The giants will have to prove during the
early part of the, season and if they can't prove
those things, correct other teams will take. Advantage, yeah it's
just that.
Speaker 4 (25:37):
Simple and the coaching staff will make the necessary changes
and adapt as we see every.
Speaker 3 (25:42):

right YouTube comments and please ring us up two on
one nine five one. Three we love talking to people
more than we do reading the. Chats but that's. Okay
if you're bashful and, shy we'll go here. Anyway the
(30:39):
over under guy, says do we know if starters are
starting versus The bills or The? Jets now The jets
preseason game number, two The patriots preseason game number. Three,
No the answer is not only do we not know who's,
starting Against. Buffalo we have no idea who's starting at
(30:59):
game games two or three of the preseason. Anyway, HOWEVER
i do think based on past experience With Brian dabele
and the logic that MOST nfl coaches, use in today's,
game you're more likely to see more of your regulars
take a few snaps in game number.
Speaker 4 (31:17):
Two, YEAH i was gonna, Say traditionally in the preseason
there's always one game that the starters play more so.
Speaker 3 (31:25):
Than the other two. Games now that we're into three.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
Preseason, games and just based on the schedule and the,
timing IF i had to, guess it would be the
second game against The, jets just because it gives players
in case of any injuries a little bit more time
to heal up before the actual regular season opener In week.
One but that's, again that's just going off of what
(31:52):
we've seen in the last couple of. Years that doesn't
mean it's going to be the case this. Year we
very much do not know because we do not get
this information ahead of, time, Unfortunately but IF i had to,
guess The jets game would be the game that more
of the starters play. In but this comment also mentions
just wanting to See Jackson Dart now he, HIM i
(32:14):
think will get snaps in every. Game probably they were
gonna because he may not get much playing time once
the season, starts at least the beginning of the. SEASON
i would think that they would want it to get
as many reps as possible in the, preseason to just
throw him out there and see how he. Does, AGAIN
i don't know, this but IF i had to, GUESS
i would SAY i would think he would get some
(32:36):
action in the least at least two of the, games
if not all.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
Three, yeah he's gonna have to get. Some, yeah they
have a.
Speaker 3 (32:44):
Choice come week, one he probably won't be playing at
all and for a, while.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
Well come week, one it's gonna Be wilson And winston getting.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
All hopefully he does not take, It, yes for a long.
Time that's a good, world.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
Hopefully, yes that was the second part of his. Question
SO i will add this, though because of the dual
practices some of these, coaches and again we don't know
What brian's gonna, do BUT i do want to just
add this item in. There it's not unusual now for
some of these, coaches because they'll add the they'll give
their veteran starters a lot of work in the dual,
(33:21):
practices and they'll kind of use that as a pseudo.
Exhibition so some of these guys don't even want to
play their regulars In week. Two they'll just, say forget.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
IT i got them in the dual.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
PRACTICES i got them back to back days of bone
crunching tackles and hits against another. Team that's, Enough i'm
not doing it. Anymore some guys do.
Speaker 4 (33:42):
That, YEAH i don't know IF i should say, unfortunately
but it's a little different from last year because, no
it was it two years ago that we had two
sets of joint.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
Practices last year was just The jets joid. Practice.
Speaker 4 (33:55):
Correct last Year detroit was In detroit was in, Okay,
yeah remember of mine sat two years ago To.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
Detroit two years.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
Ago, Okay so this year there's only one set of
joint practices and Coach, DABLE i believe it was over the,
weekend sometime within the last couple of, days spoke that
he did research and found out that it is better
for the team to have to not have joint practices
(34:25):
leading up to the first preseason, game, right and to
instead have them in the second preseason week because it
gives them a little more time to get used, to you,
know training camp practices and these padded practices hitting just
to try to minimize the injury. Risk so we don't,
have you, know an exact blueprint from the previous year
(34:45):
to kind of go off of in terms of how
coach might do things this. Year so that's why it's
even more so where we're saying we don't really know
what it's going to.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
Be very, good little. Geo i'm gonna read your question
just to give you the satisfaction of saying that you posted.
Something but at the same, time tongue in, cheek you,
said is the depth chart? Unofficial, yeah it. Is thank.
You we do appreciate your, time AND i, figure, look
you spent the effort to type that. Out we're going
(35:14):
to give you a little pop on the. Show, okay next,
time try to come with a better. Question Papa sutra, Says,
PAUL i can't freaking rate for this. Defense this defense
is looking. Monstrous well there's the hype. Again Tyler nuban
doesn't want to hear. It, Okay Tyler nuban doesn't want
any part of your. Post and, gosh Seeing russ put in.
(35:35):
WORK i can't stop thinking about. It, well, again that's
what they're. Doing they're putting in the. Work Adrian fink,
says do you see The giants making any potential trades
late in the? Summer what doesn't depend on. Injuries, look
if there's one thing that we have, learned and we've
been Around Joe shane now you know for three full seasons,
(35:56):
plus he is, always, always every waking moment thinking about
something he can do to make the roster.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
Better, yes one thousand percent he. IS i will, say
AND i said this maybe a month, ago at this
point leading into training, camp it is important to remember
that UNTIL i believe it's week, four week six of
the regular, season the order for waiver wire claims go
by last year's. Record, YEAH i think it's the first,
(36:25):
month the first month of the, Season, okay think so
The giants will be number three in the waiver waiver
order claiming order in terms of everyone that's cut across THE.
Nfl sorry not. Veterans veterans don't go through, waivers.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
Right it's got to be under four years of experience
to be on.
Speaker 4 (36:44):
Waiver SO i would say when it comes down to
like cut down day might be a time where you,
know The giants are really looking at who else is
getting released around THE. Nfl and you, know unless The
titans Are browns claim a, guy The giants will get
any other guy they, claim as long as those two
other teams don't put in a.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
Claim the waiver period is based on last year's draft
order until through the conclusion of the third week of games,
played which is about a.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
Month, yeah so The giants will be one of the
top teams in the waiver priority order in that. Case but,
yeah as you, Mentioned, paul we have seen the last
what two, years whether it's trading a guy away or
trading for a, Guy Joe shane making a move during
the preseason doing some sort of late Rounds, Simmons Isaiah,
Simmons Boogie. Basham last year they traded Away Jordan. Phillips
(37:36):
So Joe shane has shown he's not hesitant at all
to make a trade during the summer leading into the.
SEASON i would say right now it is way too
early to even guess on who or what. POSITIONS i,
mean as the question, mentions it's a lot of it's
going to depend on, injuries a lot of it's going
to depend on who has just becomes available across the.
(37:58):
League you, know if If Joe shane finds out that
a team is thinking of moving a guy or cutting a,
guy he might make a call and be, like, hey
before you cut, him.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
We don't want to risk.
Speaker 4 (38:08):
It we'll offer you some late round swap to guarantee
that we get him on our.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
Team that's not going to happen FOR i would think
at least another two.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
Weeks, yeah, Easy, yeah. Easy just so you, understand and
we mentioned this on the show the other, day you
may have missed. It Joe shane has gone to his
pro personnel department and he's told those guys there's a
room of those. Guys he's given each guy several teams and,
said look at their depth. Chart pretend you're THE gm
of that. Team try to put your fifty three together
(38:42):
and try to take educated guesses as to who might
be available either via a trade from that team if we're,
interested or who may potentially get cut from that, team
so that we're prepped and ready to go as soon
as those names hit the wire when they have to
cut the fifty three couple of days after they play The,
(39:03):
jets The, PATRIOTS i should say after they played The
patriots the third, game that they can. Pounce so the
preparation is. Continuous it's. Ongoing they're not just suddenly at
the very end getting that list of cuts and, saying,
oh we'll see who do we. Like that's not the
way it. Goes, no they've been doing this for.
Speaker 4 (39:21):
WEEKS i was gonna see. That preparation has been. Months
the personnel department has been studying other teams the, rosters
probably since the contusion of the. Draft, YES i, agree
undrafted rookie free agents started signing across the.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
League once we got past that little.
Speaker 4 (39:37):
Window they've been studying all these other, rosters getting prepared
for what is it about a little over three weeks
from today cut? Down or it is three weeks from,
today when it's cut down day and every roster has
to go down to fifty three, players they will be
ready to. Pounce i'm sure on at least a couple of.
GUYS i, mean obviously it depends on who gets caught
(39:59):
in which of the jibt its own players step. Up you,
know obviously in an ideal, world The giants won't even
want to claim any guys from other teams because they're
so happy with everyone.
Speaker 2 (40:08):
On their own.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
ROSTER i don't know if that will be the, case but,
no we don't. Know ideal world that would Be the
final cut.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
Is august twenty, Seventh just so you, know it goes
from ninety to fifty three thirty seven.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
GUYS i gotta. Ask we might have talked about this last.
YEAR i don't.
Speaker 4 (40:28):
Remember do you like this new way they do, it
where it's just one day it's, required or you liked
it the old way where it was a little by
little each.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
WEEK i like segmented cuts because for, me if you
can make segmented cuts as you're going through, training camping
through your, games you have better opportunities to start giving
more and more reps to the guys who were staying.
Behind you, KNOW i make that first, TRIM i know
(40:58):
these guys really aren't going. Anywhere, okay that's. It NOW
i have more time to spend with the next set of.
Guys all, right these guys are the. Fringe all, Right,
well now it's another round of. Cuts they're. Gone NOW
i got even more time to spend with my closer core.
Players now that's me from a coaching. Perspective from a player,
PERSPECTIVE i want to be on the team as long
(41:20):
AS i. Can, True so it depends on whose hat
are you.
Speaker 4 (41:26):
Wearing although from a player's, perspective if you get cut
earlier from one, team it does give you more time
to potentially latch on and show what you can.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
Do it, Does it, Does but every player will tell
you that every rep they take in practice gives them
a chance to impress. Somebody and if you are able
to go through the whole three preseason, games remember that
third preseason. Game mostly everybody who's getting cut plays that
third preseason. Game, yeah because nobody wants to get anybody.
(41:56):
Hurt so all your back end guys in the ninety
are putting something on tape in week three of the.
Preseason if that guy is cut player axes cut two weeks,
ago he doesn't get to put anything on, Tape that's.
True so it depends on what hat you're. Wearing, yeah you,
KNOW i tend to look at things from a coach's.
(42:16):
Perspective that's that's always my preferred, mentality SO i would
rather slice it. Down but, anyway Little geo has another comment,
here and you know he, says do you guys Believe
russ and the starter should get a series or two
in the first preseason. Game, Look i'm just gonna go
with this. Philosophically i've always believed because you, know, HECK
(42:39):
i remember When Phil simms played into the fourth quarter
of a preseason. GAME i remember When Frank tarkenton years
ago played into the fourth, quarter played a whole preseason.
Game i'm of the mentality that players can't get hurt
at any. TIME i know there's a, risk BUT i
think there's more benefit depending upon certain, situations the newness
(42:59):
of the, player the newness of the, unit the mixture
of the. ROSTER i think there are instances WHERE i
would philosophically prefer my veteran starters to get some snaps
in the. Preseason but that is on an individual case,
basis where.
Speaker 4 (43:15):
They're saying the first preseason, game not in the preseason in.
Speaker 3 (43:18):
General this week's.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
Game, yeah AND i think that goes for the first game.
Speaker 3 (43:23):
Too, Okay, NO i just wanted to clarify if you
meant a preseason game or.
Speaker 2 (43:27):
THIS i think it applies in both, cases not just this,
game but to the whole. PRESEASON i think it should
be determined on a case by case. Basis dabel was
asked about the reasoning behind, it and he did say
again he understands that there's always weighing the benefits of
snaps because he does think there's a great deal to
be learned in snaps compared to the risk. Injury everybody's
(43:51):
got to weigh that. Individually, yeah, NO i.
Speaker 4 (43:54):
AGREE i, mean, look there's a lot of continuity on
the offensive side of the ball this, year but the
one position that there is the biggest change from last
year is the most important, position and is the engine
really for the entire. Offense, Obviously i'm talking about the quarterback. Positions,
yeah OBVIOUSLY i do see the benefits of, having you,
(44:14):
Know Russell wilson go out this weekend with the, starters
or at least some of the. Starters you, KNOW i
don't THINK i need to See Milague neighbors go out
there On.
Speaker 3 (44:22):
SATURDAY i don't think.
Speaker 4 (44:24):
He's he's shown me enough last year and the first
two weeks of training camp Where i'm, Like i'm good
with him.
Speaker 2 (44:29):
And t WHY i, said it's on an individual, Consideration,
yeah BUT i do, think you, know questioning asking About
russ in particular with this.
Speaker 4 (44:37):
QUESTION i do think there is some benefit with having
him go out, there even if it's just for one,
series just to have him get his feet wet a
little bit in an actual game setting with at least
some members of the starting. Offense but at the end
of the, DAY i trust that Coach dable and the
rest of the coaching staff are going to come up
with a good plan and a smart plan for the entire.
(44:59):
Preseason they don't look at it just one week at a.
Time they have a whole plan mapped, out obviously for
the next three.
Speaker 2 (45:06):
Weeks and he's already said.
Speaker 3 (45:07):
That, yeah so whatever he thinks is, Best i'm.
Speaker 4 (45:10):
Gonna trust the guy who's been doing this way longer
than Even i've been.
Speaker 2 (45:15):
Alone it's his decision to, make not, HOURS i would.
Say philosophically, speaking, though if you wanted the best case
For Russell wilson taking some preseason snaps this weekend or
at all during the, preseason the best case to be
made for that is to get his offensive line and
(45:36):
him used to his, cadence because right now all they've
got are practice. Reps that's not the same as game.
Reps you need to you not only need to be
used to his cadence in terms of the tempo of
how he calls, signals but the inflection of his. Voice
that basically just getting used to listening to the sound
of his voice while the crowd is yelling and, screaming
(45:59):
you're under. Conditions we don't have game conditions. Here, yeah
you know we got we got fans in the stands
for trading, camp but that's not game. Conditions so there
is there is something to be. Gained even Though Russell
wilson's been in the league fourteen, years there is something
to be gained by having him play Some it's not
(46:20):
our decision to make whether or not that's valuable enough
to put him.
Speaker 4 (46:24):
In And i'm Sure russ would say the same exact
thing that we're. Saying i'm, sorry if we're up to,
him he would love to go out, there but at
the end of the, day he's gonna trust the coaching
staff to do his best for him in the entire.
Speaker 2 (46:34):
TIME i would say, this, though, AGAIN i don't want
people to think That i'm just a crazy risk. Taker
IF i were to Play wilson for let's say a
possession or, two it would be primarily. Handoffs he's not rolling, Out,
Okay i'm not rolling them. Out i'm not setting him
back on a five step drop and asking him to
(46:55):
throw the ball fifty yards downfield because now he's got
to hold the ball too, long and it's a chance
he's going to get What, OKAY i would say very
few passes if he's going to take some, snaps BECAUSE
i want the benefit of the, timing the presence in the,
huddle not Too they don't have a presence of us
in the huddle for a game. Yet, yeah they don't
(47:17):
know what that's. Like SO i would want. THAT i
would want the benefit of the cadence with the offensive
line and the receivers and the backs and the tight
ends getting used to him calling. SIGNALS i would want,
that AND i could get benefit from. That but he's
gonna hand the ball off practically every, time and if
he's gonna throw, it it's gonna be a quick wide receiver, screen,
(47:37):
okay or it's gonna be a swing pass to a running,
back and that's about. It because the ball's coming out
as quick as. Possible i'm taking no chances that a
defender's going to come within a sneeze of. Him, Okay
i'm with you two one nine three nine four five
one three we.
Speaker 3 (47:57):
Do.
Speaker 2 (47:58):
So let let's go back to the call and we'll
get back to the YouTubers in just a. Minute david And, Anaheim.
California you are next on the. Show, Hello, hi how
are you guys? Doing what's going?
Speaker 5 (48:10):
On?
Speaker 2 (48:10):
Man what's?
Speaker 3 (48:11):
Up?
Speaker 7 (48:11):
David, Hey i'm a longtime, listener first time. Caller thank.
Speaker 2 (48:15):
YOU i know you're.
Speaker 7 (48:17):
Welcome thank, you, guys AND i JUST i just wanted to.
CALL i listened. Yesterday it seemed like there was some
confusion about What Cam scataboo. Is someone that lives on
The West. COAST i watched him play a. Lot he's
a three down. Back he can be anything you want
him to.
Speaker 3 (48:36):
Be, okay, well SAID i.
Speaker 7 (48:40):
AGREE i, mean, well there was some confusion about he's
a power, runner he's this. RUNNER i think he's just
an all purpose running.
Speaker 4 (48:50):
Back, fine no argument, HERE i mean. Fine Coach dables
straight up said that, himself Him, Tyrone Tracy devin. Secretary
he's called all of them.
Speaker 3 (48:59):
All hes do.
Speaker 4 (49:01):
Everything which it's great to have three running backs atop
of your depth chart that can, run catch and.
Speaker 7 (49:08):
Block oh, NO i, Agree AND i just want to
give a comp IF i could to Cams.
Speaker 3 (49:15):
Kataboo, yeah let's hear.
Speaker 7 (49:16):
It so they're both five to, nine both over two,
tens both run the what a forty a four to
six five, forty both having those for the end. Zone
and that would Be Kyrin.
Speaker 2 (49:30):
Williams, okay the Former Notre dame back who's playing for The.
Speaker 3 (49:35):
Rams we just got a nice ex for The.
Speaker 7 (49:36):
Ram, yeah, YEP.
Speaker 2 (49:39):
I love K williams coming out of, School SO i
Mean i'm not going to guess that at. All.
Speaker 4 (49:44):
YEAH i mean if Cam' skataboo has the start of
his career Like Kien, williams THAT i think we all
signed up for that and.
Speaker 2 (49:50):
Hardbeat no one would be disappointed with Kyn williams two point.
Speaker 7 (49:55):
Zero, yeah AND i really do think he is going
to take over the starting role than.
Speaker 2 (50:00):
Later, Well i'll tell you, What Tyrone tracy has had
a terrific offseason and coach has been very very insistent
upon praising him for changing his carry with the ball
security and in, FACT i was talking to la Troll,
betts the running backs, coach just last, week and they
(50:21):
have really worked on that because we remember the whole high
and tight With. Tikiye tracy had trouble with the ball last,
year and they have really done everything they can and
the proof will be in the. Games but they've really
tried to fix that and they're looking forward to it
because they think he has tremendous upside and that could
all be dereled if he can't hold onto the.
Speaker 3 (50:42):
Ball, yeah but just.
Speaker 7 (50:44):
In terms of it would be a great problem to.
Speaker 4 (50:46):
Have, yeah just to your, Point, david you know, WHAT
i don't think it would shock me if by the
end of the Season Camp scautabou is maybe getting more
touches Than Tyrone. Tracy but IT'S i don't think if
those two guys are both, HEALTHY i don't think it
is ever going to get to a point where one
is getting significantly more touches than the. OTHER i think
(51:07):
this is going to be a pretty even, split With
Devin singletary getting mixed in for some touches as. Well
Coach table was just talking yesterday About Devin singletary and
how great he's been during, camp the veteran presence he
brings to that running back, room and how he can
just straight up depend on Him he's a reliable veteran running,
back SO i hear where you're coming. From and you,
(51:29):
know at the end of the day Camp scatabu could
could end up being.
Speaker 3 (51:34):
The best running back in that.
Speaker 4 (51:35):
Room BUT i don't think at any point one guy
is going to get significantly more touches than the. Other
assuming everyone stays, healthy it could wind up.
Speaker 7 (51:45):
That would be dynamic.
Speaker 3 (51:46):
Though, yeah it could be.
Speaker 2 (51:47):
Great look If singletary winds up being the, three WHICH
i think is going to eventually, Happen i'm not sure
what date that's going to, happen but the first two,
guys they could be a fifty five to forty five.
SPLIT i don't, know it might not be fifty to,
fifty But i'm with you it's it's gonna be a
lot closer than people.
Speaker 3 (52:06):
Think, yeah AND i don't know who is gonna end
up getting more touches than the.
Speaker 4 (52:09):
Other because everything you said About Tyrone tracy so far
this whole offseason is very.
Speaker 3 (52:13):
True he's looked.
Speaker 4 (52:14):
Great, yeah SO i don't think The giants are going
to be rushing, to you, know try to get him off.
Speaker 2 (52:19):
The, field and he's got better out of.
Speaker 4 (52:21):
It is obviously got his own skilled skill, set very
talented player, himself and obviously with everyone's gonna want to
see him on the field as. Well SO i really
think it's gonna end up being a fairly even split
between the two if they stay.
Speaker 2 (52:34):
Healthy to no one's, Surprised, David tracy's got a better
chance of taking the ball to the house with long.
Speed not that he's got blazing long, speed but he's
got better long speed Than scottaboo. Does for, Sure oh for.
Speaker 7 (52:46):
Sure yeah, no and that's no.
Speaker 2 (52:48):
Doubt thanks for the. Call hit us up, Again, david
appreciate it very. Much rod From New. Jersey you are
local and next on the. Program, Hello hey.
Speaker 8 (53:00):
Guys, HEY i like their Rush hour. Name as a local,
resident every Time i'm on the, road it feels like
it's rush.
Speaker 2 (53:06):
HOUR i couldn't agree. MORE i, mean come, on think about.
It we're at the intersection of the turnpike And route.
Three if that doesn't scream Rush, hower what else? Does
And root seventeen's just on the other side of the.
Speaker 8 (53:18):
Building speaking Of route three And root, Seventeen i'm going
to be There thursday for. PRACTICE i think it's going
to be full pads and in the beginning of the,
show you, said it's not what's going On.
Speaker 2 (53:28):
Thursday thursday's a carded. Practice what does that? Mean, well
they draw up individual cards of specific plays that they
want to. Run they're not calling it under game. Conditions.
Okay they basically go into the practice and they, say,
look here's a stack of. Cards we're drawing up the
plays that we. Want and in between each, play one
(53:50):
of the assistant coaches goes up to the line of
scrimmage and they hold up the. Card they literally physically
hold up the card and, say this is the play we're, running.
Guys so it's not game, conditions you know What i'm,
saying as opposed to a practice which literally the coach might, say, okay,
guys balls on the twenty yard, line you got two,
minutes get down the. Field go and they play it
(54:12):
like it's a real two minute.
Speaker 5 (54:13):
Game, yep all, Right well it still should be.
Speaker 8 (54:16):
Interesting any particular advice on WHAT i should be.
Speaker 3 (54:19):
Looking for some good? Football you, Go, hey best advice
of all?
Speaker 8 (54:25):
Time is he good with holding the? Ball what's his record?
Speaker 3 (54:28):
There he did have.
Speaker 2 (54:30):
A little bit of fumble lightis when he was At Arizona.
State a few, times didn't didn't always hold on to
it as much as he would have. Liked but it wasn't.
Horrible wasn't horrible from from What i've been told by
The Arizona state. People BECAUSE i did quite a bit
of investigation on, HIM i wanted them in the, draft
(54:50):
SO i dug in pretty pretty. Tight and they told
me that sometimes he could have held it a little bit,
better but they didn't think it was going to be a.
Problem but my best advice to, you and it's the
best advice of old, time just keep an eye on
the lak. Neighbors that's all, well and you guarantee you
saying something you.
Speaker 8 (55:06):
Like, okay take, Guys thank thank, You, Ron.
Speaker 3 (55:09):
Thanks, ron appreciate.
Speaker 2 (55:11):
It mike For, mediata you're next to the.
Speaker 7 (55:14):
Program, hello, awesome glad to be.
Speaker 5 (55:17):
ON i hope you guys are doing.
Speaker 2 (55:18):
Well, yes, sure.
Speaker 8 (55:19):
Hopefully what are the odds That Tommy DeVito doesn't make.
Speaker 7 (55:22):
The roster this?
Speaker 6 (55:23):
Year do we?
Speaker 8 (55:24):
Keep do we keep four?
Speaker 5 (55:25):
Quarterbacks it doesn't seem.
Speaker 8 (55:27):
Feasible? Uh and could this could this next?
Speaker 5 (55:31):
Game you, know in the next three games that we?
Speaker 6 (55:33):
Have?
Speaker 8 (55:34):
Uh be kind Of Tommy DeVito's? Fairware farewell. Tour. Uh you,
know do you see him maybe making uh A.
Speaker 2 (55:42):
Qb, TWO qb three on ANOTHER nfl.
Speaker 8 (55:44):
Roster uh if he doesn't make it with The giants
AS qb Four.
Speaker 7 (55:49):
And do you see him who do you see.
Speaker 5 (55:51):
Having more playing? Time uh this week against The?
Speaker 8 (55:54):
Bills?
Speaker 7 (55:55):
Uh the veto Or Dark And i'll take my answer
off the.
Speaker 3 (55:59):
Air thank, You, Thanks, mike go.
Speaker 4 (56:01):
AHEAD i mean we've spoken at since the selection Of Jackson,
DART i feel like we've spoken about, this the quarterback.
QUESTION i can't see The giants carrying four, quarterbacks right
because it just as we've talked. About you take four,
quarterbacks you're taking away depth at other. Positions and when
(56:21):
you only have one guy that gets to play the
position each, game obviously barring, injury it's tough to have
that man that much depth at that position and sacrifice
the depth at other positions where you have more than
just one guy.
Speaker 3 (56:35):
Getting into the action each.
Speaker 4 (56:37):
Week SO i don't think there will be more than
three quarterbacks on the. Roster and given obviously the contracts
that were given To Russell wilson And Jameis winston And
Jackson dart being a first round, pick that would you
know Put tommy as right now the guy that probably has.
Speaker 3 (56:55):
THE i, guess the least likely chance to make.
Speaker 4 (56:58):
IT i think he is the last two seasons that
he is capable of being AN nfl, quarterback and he
deserves to be on AN nfl. ROSTER i think he
might just be one of those cases where he because
of the roster. CRUNCH i don't know if it's going
to be, here but he's certainly shown in one enough
(57:20):
games already as an undrafted rookie free agent the last
couple of years that he belongs.
Speaker 3 (57:26):
To be on AN nfl. Roster and if it's not, here,
UNFORTUNATELY i obviously. WOULD i think we would all love
for him to stay here no matter.
Speaker 4 (57:36):
What BUT i just think he's too good To if
he were to get cut here for no other team
to claim, HIM i don't think THAT'S i don't think
that would. HAPPEN i think he's shown, That, yeah he
deserves to get picked up somewhere, else and whether that's
A qb, two A qb three THAT i don't. Know
it will depend on whatever team picks him. Up with
(57:56):
their depth at the position is looking, like obviously things
can change over the next few. Weeks we see every
year guys get. Hurt SO i don't think it's a
certainty That Tommy DeVito will not be here come week,
one because things, happen things can, change circumstances, change they.
Do but right, now he obviously has the biggest uphill
(58:18):
BATTLE i would say to making the.
Speaker 2 (58:19):
Team, Yeah i'll say. This if it comes down to
cutdown day and The giants know who their three qbs
are on the fifty, THREE i firmly believe they'd love
to bring him back to the practice. Squad BUT i
just don't see how he goes. UNCLEAN i just Don't,
YEAH i, MEAN i just don't see.
Speaker 4 (58:40):
It without even considering potential injuries over the next few,
WEEKS i can already immediately Think i'm not gonna say,
them but a handful of teams whose quarterback death is
let's just call, it not the greatest and who Would
Tommy DeVito would certainly be an upgrade to other members
that are currently in those other quarterback.
Speaker 2 (58:59):
Rooms i'll tell you this right, now all, Right and
more and more teams are going to keep three quarterbacks, Now,
yeah that's the way it's. Becoming because of the. Injuries for,
sure right, now in my, mind without any, DOUBT i
would feel comfortable Saying Tommy DeVito could be a number
three quarterback on probably at least two thirds of the
(59:22):
teams in THE Nfl right. Now he's better than two
thirds of the number threes who are in this league
as of. TODAY i believe that now can he be a.
Two the only THING i will say is last, year
when he did get a chance to play, again he
did not progress enough quickly enough for me to say
(59:44):
he should be a. Two and that's one of the
reasons why The giants Signed Jameis. Winston they wanted a
guaranteed guy who had enough of a performance resume to
be a two and also had veteran leadership that could
also help with the young guy that they were are
potentially going to bring. In so in that, regard at the,
(01:00:05):
MOMENT i still Think tommy is a terrific number. Three,
well The giants in all likelihood will already have three
by the time they get to Opening, day and that's
the numbers problem that he.
Speaker 4 (01:00:18):
Faces, yeah BUT i do, think you, know barring another
team calling The giants trying to trade For tommy in
the next week or, TWO i Think tommy will be
here until the end of training camp because let's not forget,
sure all three other quarterbacks in that quarterback room this
is their first year in the. System this Is tommy's
(01:00:39):
third year in the. System so, Obviously Russell wilson And
Jameis winston have MORE nfl experience under their belts Than
Tommy DeVito by a wide. Margin but when it comes
To Brian diable And Mike kafka's, Offense Tommy DeVito.
Speaker 3 (01:00:51):
Is the veteran of the group in terms of the.
Speaker 4 (01:00:53):
System yep and those other guys have spoken to the
media about how they will sometimes lean On tommy to
pick up things about the offense that they're still.
Speaker 3 (01:01:02):
Learning so he's gonna be here until the last possible.
Speaker 2 (01:01:07):
Moment and don't, forget he's bonded very well With Jackson.
Dark dable has told us that a few. Times for.
Speaker 3 (01:01:12):
Sure that's. Important that's very.
Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
Important all, right real, quick go to Your giants dot
com site and check Out Phil simms is sit down
With Tommy. DeVito if You're Tommy DeVito, fan you're gonna
want to see.
Speaker 3 (01:01:25):

Speaker 4 (01:01:27):

Speaker 2 (01:01:30):
