Speaker 1 (00:00):
Warning tell us what their first practice was like.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
And yah, you do only have rookies out there, which
just what it's like to to kind of have that
arrival feeling of being in the unifrum.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
It's sir, it was a good experience. It was great.
Speaker 4 (00:11):
Uh it was a little warm outside yesterday, but I
mean other than that, I mean it was good. It
was good to get out there on the grass. You know,
it's been a minute since i've uh, you know, had
like a football workout, so it's been good. It was good.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
What your thoughts on Tampa so far? A little bit
of time here, but.
Speaker 4 (00:27):
So far the feeling, Yeah, I mean feels good. I mean, uh,
I haven't really been doing much except you know, coming
in here and going back to uh sleep at the hotel.
But I mean, other than that, I mean it's been good. Hopefully, uh,
after we're done with our camp and outa and stuff,
I gets, you know, see the city.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
A little more.
Speaker 5 (00:45):
Your thoughts on the coaching staff, Oh.
Speaker 6 (00:46):
The great.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
Uh, you know, coach Strong, we have a little bit
of relationship. I'm familiar with him already, so I mean
it's kind of been smooth. Uh, it's been a smooth transition, Uh,
coach Bowls. He's a real kind of cool coach. He's
very calm, you know. So, uh that's been really really
good to see for sure.
Speaker 7 (01:02):
That's what b uh coach Coles will say. And he's like,
I feel like I feel like Charlie was everybody.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know he's have He's had like
a long uh college background, so I mean he was
my coach for a year at Miami and then even
the year after. I think he he has a lot
of connections with a lot of people on this team.
So I mean he's you know, he's like one of
the co coaches here for sure.
Speaker 8 (01:26):
How does that help having a coach that very recently
has had his hand on the college game to now
coaching at the NFL level, Like, how can that help.
Speaker 5 (01:34):
You guys in your transition?
Speaker 4 (01:36):
I think it's good cause uh he kind of knows
how to uh how to teach us and how to
reach us.
Speaker 9 (01:41):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
I mean, uh, I haven't been with it any other
coach in the NFL yet, uh obviously, but he's been.
Speaker 6 (01:47):
I mean he's been great.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
He's kind of he gives you that college field a
little bit, you know, that little joking kind of but
you know, serious at the same time.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
But Coach Stongs is a cold guy.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
As it is.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
You know, he likes to uh play around a little bit,
but he also loves to work as well.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Lest you know, you're here now you have a a
sense of how they do things.
Speaker 10 (02:03):
But what what are the most important things for you
in the tube or between now and and discourage Rain?
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Guess sir, just learning to playbook as much as I can.
Just tryna uh help the team out any way I can,
whether that's special teams, whether that's on passing downs, early downs,
whatever the case may be. Just tryna just tryna uh
utilize my strengths and just uh anything that is a
weakness and the colt's eyes just you know, harp down
on that as well.
Speaker 7 (02:28):
Where do you feel.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
Most at home?
Speaker 8 (02:29):
Because you were kind of described to us as a
guy that could do potentially a lot of different things,
whether it's you know, outside, inside, on the d line,
or you know as an edge guy.
Speaker 7 (02:38):
Like, where where do you feel most comfortable?
Speaker 4 (02:40):
I mean, honestly, wherever they want me. You know, Uh,
I'm not like a a piggy guy who's gonna say, oh,
you know, I can only play this. I only wanna
do this, So I mean, whether that's three four or
five six, I mean, whatever the case may be.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
I mean, I just been learning to the.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
Entire playbook and just been trying to get that down
pack first, and then wherever they need me on game
days or during camp coming up soon, I'll be.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Ready for it.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
What do they have you focusing on right now?
Speaker 8 (03:02):
I know it's kind of hard to tell, like cause
you have the all of the players when you guys
are lining up, and so it's a little hard to
see like where everybody's lining up.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
It's no I've been on Coach Strong mostly in the
D line room for sure, but you are.
Speaker 7 (03:13):
You look as far as outside.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Or inside just uh a little bit of I guess
both in the scheme that we have, uh, but I
mean there's a outside back room and there's a D
line room, and I've been with the D line would have.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Been like learning both as defense so far.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
That l it's good man.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
He has a very uh like creative mind, you know,
and we don't v and I'm pretty sure we've only
learned like the kind of like the surface of it,
you know, for sure. So I mean it's been great
to see it. Uh, Like I was just saying earlier,
you know, you could be anywhere in this defense from
a three, four, five, or six. So it's been really
really good.
Speaker 7 (03:45):
Any especially with ninety five.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
I know they work a million different options for you,
but why do you pick them?
Speaker 4 (03:49):
I mean, it wasn't like you said, it just wasn't
really options, So I just uh just took a number,
but I mean, uh, hopefully I can make it especially
number for sure.
Speaker 9 (03:58):
Did they did?
Speaker 7 (03:58):
Have they given you any idea of kind of.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
Where they want you size wise?
Speaker 9 (04:01):
No?
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Not yet, no, ma'am. No.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
I mean I'm about like twenty five right now, but no.
Speaker 9 (04:07):
Look a specific is that a comfortable playing wait for you?
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Or this is not for sure?
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Around twenty five two ninety so this is pretty comfortable
for sure, gotcha.
Speaker 11 (04:15):
Do you like the way they do it where they
have all the rookies and all the first year guys
before you get a chance to be right up against
all the veterans.
Speaker 7 (04:24):
Do you think that that?
Speaker 4 (04:25):
Yes, sir, I think it's good for a rookie standpoint,
cause you know a lot of guys really don't know
each other, so you kind of give a chance for guys,
you know, to learn each other, like uh, me and
David Walker have have got you know, pretty cool with
each other over the past few days. He's a really
cool dude, and I mean, I mean he's a great
player on the field as well. So just being able
to get closer with guys like that, and I mean,
(04:45):
I think it's a really good, uh concept, a really
good way of doing that for sure.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Or you really yes, sir, yes, sir?
Speaker 7 (04:52):
To keep a TV on at night?
Speaker 9 (04:55):
No?
Speaker 4 (04:55):
Nah, nah nah, he turns he turns it off around
like nine thirty, ten o'clock. M.
Speaker 8 (05:05):
What's it been like again, you know, having another draft
pick where you guys don't play, you know, cause again.
Speaker 7 (05:10):
You're you're reversatile.
Speaker 8 (05:11):
But just having someone that I guess is you know,
similar position group and sometimes the same position group that's
going through all.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
The same things that you are.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Yeah, it's been good. You know, we've been able to
you know, talk about the playbook at night time. You know,
it just kind of like you said, we're kind of
in a similar role right now. So it's been kind
of good just to you know, pick each other's brains
and help each help each other out in certain uh,
certain areas and that's aspect.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
But I mean it's been good.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
You know, Uh, it's only the second day, so I
mean there's still a lot of stuff that we're still
gonna have to learn and get adjusted to.
Speaker 6 (05:42):
But I mean it's been good.
Speaker 9 (05:43):
It's been really good.
Speaker 8 (05:49):
You certainly kick things off with the bang yesterday with
that leaping interception there.
Speaker 7 (05:53):
Just what did it mean for you to have, you know, impactful.
Speaker 9 (05:56):
Moment like that on day one showed me a lot
to be really just to be able get in there
and get a pick six. I had to pick six
in a minute, so you know, that kind of kind
of made my day, to be.
Speaker 11 (06:04):
Honest, you must have made a heck of an impression
on Coach Bowles because he's already talking about maybe you're
a sorry mm.
Speaker 9 (06:12):
I mean I don't know yet. You know, it's early.
Like I said, we still gut training came to so
so I'm tryna tryna get on the food, gonna do anything,
but it takes it down on the field.
Speaker 7 (06:18):
Though he was also really outamant too.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
He corrected me on this like height wise.
Speaker 8 (06:22):
You know a lot of people would say, oh, he's
going inside, but bole said, I view him as an
outside guy first.
Speaker 7 (06:28):
He can play inside as well, but mm, he'd use
you as.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
An outside guy first.
Speaker 8 (06:31):
What's it been like for you kind of having to
overcome some of those misconceptions about you as far as
height and stuff goes, which you know you certainly showed
a lot of leaping ability on again on that pick.
Speaker 5 (06:42):
Yeah, play a lot taller than you Mark.
Speaker 9 (06:44):
Yeah, I mean just my whole life always been the
smaller guy. So it's I feel like it's my mindset.
Like when I sip on the food, I feel like
I'm the best player on the food and that that's
how I approach each every day. So that's how Yeah,
that's how I do it.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
We supposed who the fastest guy out there was? Was
sixty guys out there, and he said it was you.
Is that the porn pride?
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Uh?
Speaker 9 (07:00):
Yeah, I feel I could have been pretty faster though,
to be honest, you know, getting understanding his scheme and
I feel like once I understand it came up to be
a lot faster though.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Learning bolls his defense.
Speaker 9 (07:09):
It's really cool. Real it's different too, compared to where
I was at before. You know, he does a bunch
of different things, unique things, and I'm excited 'em in
his system.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
We actually for for NFL defeats that you like, if you, yeah,
model your game after who would you talk about?
Speaker 9 (07:23):
Shoot, I'll say, uh Trick McDuffie, Denzel Ward and uh
Jiyer Alexander. I like to watch those guys a lot.
Speaker 8 (07:31):
When you were at Kansas State, Uh Climbing was a
you know, you know, defensive guy back bru remember correctly
he was just safety.
Speaker 7 (07:39):
Did he really.
Speaker 11 (07:40):
Focus on defensive backs a lot when when you were there?
Speaker 6 (07:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (07:44):
Uh he We would do any with him. Uh he
the defense he brought from uh North Dakota State. He
brought a Kansas State, So I don't know. He I
feel like him be a lot when it came to
that system, just understanding his scheme meself. But he helped
a lot.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
What are you looking forward to today?
Speaker 9 (07:58):
Day two and everything shoo again, just trying to get interceptions,
make plays and just impress the coaches.
Speaker 7 (08:04):
What's it been like.
Speaker 5 (08:05):
Having Benjamin Morrison along for the journey with you?
Speaker 8 (08:07):
I mean, you guys are both drafted on the same day,
so you're gonna do the same thing, same position group.
Speaker 5 (08:11):
Like, what what's that been like?
Speaker 9 (08:12):
It's very cool. Uh he's my roommate right now, you know,
so I'm getting to know him. Just uh, we're doing
this together. You know, this whole process is good. Just
know I got my next pot on my side. It
really helps me a lot. So I'm excited for me.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
Have you been communicating with some of the guys and
if that's.
Speaker 9 (08:26):
The DV room, Uh, I haven't really to be honest, Uh,
I know. Antoine wood Food texts me after I got
drafted in Tayke Smith. It text me so, like I said,
I'm excited to work with them. Guys.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
What's it like to plan for a guy like coach?
Hepball his Wood you know obviously head coach, but he
was a DV before.
Speaker 8 (08:44):
Like having a dB background, He's known to spend a
lot of time, even you know, in the early morning
hours watching tape with the dB.
Speaker 5 (08:50):
Sometimes he he can't even locate any office furniture because yeah.
Speaker 7 (08:54):
You know, I well, I'm sorry.
Speaker 8 (08:55):
Other coaches haven't build to locate off the furniture because
they're bringing it all into his room.
Speaker 7 (08:58):
What what's that like for you?
Speaker 9 (09:00):
She was r it was really dope, to be honest,
and just getting learned from him. I know he's always
gonna tryna put me in the best position to win
my matchup. So I'm excited for for the system.
Speaker 7 (09:08):
When you got a text from the wind show, Yeah,
that's sort of uh we're going to the NFL moment
for you, I mean in all protecting me.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (09:14):
I it was crazy, to be honest, cause, uh, right
after I got drafted, I took my phone and then
I saw a text me. I'm like this crazy. I
used to watch him while I was growing up. Uh,
Like I said, he's really good safety man. Excited to
work with him.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
What about you?
Speaker 7 (09:26):
For you like that?
Speaker 8 (09:27):
That one interception that lived in when I was talking
about yesterday, like that was intended for I believe it
was a back cup. Yeah, like to be able to
make a play like that against uh, another really talented
player again on day one.
Speaker 5 (09:37):
I mean that's a that's a home set play.
Speaker 12 (09:39):
Yeah, what what went through your mind during that?
Speaker 9 (09:41):
S really just tryna prove, you know, if anybody in
front of me, I feel like I'm the better player.
So that's how that take any matchups. So I feel
like I'm the best player in I field. So that's
what I'm gonna proachea there.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
Every day you get really good positive reinforcement.
Speaker 9 (09:52):
After Yes, yeah, people just wapping me up and so
saint bit job myself.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
So it was cool.
Speaker 7 (09:57):
What about Kevin Ross your thoughts on him?
Speaker 9 (09:59):
He's he's real good code to he owes school, but
he he's really cool. Uh, he's intense too, So you know,
I like it.
Speaker 13 (10:06):
Er, you're out there with Shiloh and and uh, coach says,
there's a lot of communication going on.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
How how did that go to have.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
Somebody talking with you and you guys communicating as much
as you did.
Speaker 9 (10:15):
It was good. He he's very smart, to be honest.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (10:17):
He was helping me a lot through the adjustments and calls. So,
like I said, he's very intelligent man. Excited to work
with him too.
Speaker 8 (10:22):
It's not often you have that, like during your rookie
camp where you you do have that.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
Much communication so early on when everything is new for
you guys.
Speaker 9 (10:29):
Yeah, I would imagine, I'm sorry, can't you?
Speaker 8 (10:33):
Yeah, just I mean I did that that feel a
little different like on a I mean, I know you're
coming from college, but just when you can have that
type of communication already, like on day one, when everybody's
still learning things to be able to have a partner
that's out there on the Yeah, it's doing that, it's
talking through things.
Speaker 9 (10:46):
Yeah, I mean it's it's pretty dope, to be honest.
It's under same like we all going through this whole
process together. We all try and learn scheme and it's
all trying to get on the same page. So just
each and every day trying to prove well. I'll say
that Jake, you.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Were able to get a feel at k State during
your freshman season. Does that give you some confidence giving
your football like you that you'll be able to pick
things up here and and see some really playing time
in Tampa.
Speaker 9 (11:08):
Yeah, I mean, i'm'a always do the require when it
comes to scheme any type of work. So I'm I'm
always gonna do on no car I'm always gonna put
that extra effort and that's up so I can play early.
So that's my plan, And that's how a person thinks.
Speaker 8 (11:20):
Did you have a preference as far as playing outside
and believingize the boundary and things like that, or or
playing inside.
Speaker 5 (11:26):
Or does it not really matter?
Speaker 9 (11:27):
Should really does matters? Which one every gonna get me
on the field career?
Speaker 1 (11:31):
Anything else?
Speaker 7 (11:32):
Thanks so much.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
Alright, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 5 (11:35):
I was day one for you yesterday.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
It was good. It was a move pretty much what
I expected.
Speaker 8 (11:40):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
They gave me a good like run down and how
it was gonna be.
Speaker 7 (11:43):
And you didn't have to adjust to the Florida heat
because you're.
Speaker 5 (11:46):
Used to that.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
Yeah, I'm from here.
Speaker 8 (11:47):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (11:47):
I think I was spoiled a little bit trending inside
during like the off seats and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
So it was hot, but I'm used to it, you
know what.
Speaker 7 (11:54):
The same body, you know, suffering from the heat.
Speaker 9 (11:56):
That's no.
Speaker 13 (11:58):
You can tell those first day you know a lot
of a lot of like mistakes and whatnot. But other
than that, it was pretty pretty normal, pretty normal first day.
Speaker 11 (12:06):
Is is it almost surreal that this is where you
grew up and then you're a Gator and now it
a you're in Tampa.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (12:13):
I was having a conversation maybe a couple of days ago,
like my life feels like a movie. You know, you
couldn't write a script where a person goes from little
lead to high school to college not having to move
out of the state. Think one of the coach was
messing with me the other day cause I've still never
seen snow.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
So yeah, I desmon you talked about about the the
weight loss that you've already had from your pro day
when you're four to sixty four? Do I think? Uh,
four thirty seven has been reported most recently, But are
you even under that swet?
Speaker 3 (12:43):
The kind of we're still working.
Speaker 13 (12:44):
You know, it's getting it's getting newt uh transitioned from
new nutritions and things like that. So we're still coming
up with a plan to keep it going. Obviously you
know it's still work in progress. So yeah, what's do
you appreciate, Like.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Just the support system, the.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Number of people I do you, I do appreciate it.
Speaker 13 (13:01):
Yeah, like the posts and stuff like that, you know, uh,
seeing all the people that's local that's supporting you know,
it's it's a good push and things like that.
Speaker 8 (13:08):
But also just having access to I mean they've got
not only a nutrition staff, but a a sports science
staff and y obviously Florida has a lot of of
those same things. But just knowing that you you will
have a team behind you, uh to really help you.
Speaker 13 (13:19):
Yeah, being being in the area, I have a huge team.
My mom's forty five minutes away, so you know, if
all use they can get her to get on me.
Oh yeah, so yeah, I got I feel like I
got the best team around.
Speaker 7 (13:29):
Is she tough love or is she? Is she more
of Yeah?
Speaker 3 (13:31):
Every everybody I grew up with is tough love.
Speaker 7 (13:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
So smiling since you got.
Speaker 13 (13:36):
Here, Yeah, I'm happy. It's it's a dream come true.
It's I feel like you can't do anything but smile,
you know.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
W What is your your ideal target in terms of
where you feel you're going to be at your best.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
As a football player.
Speaker 13 (13:49):
Yeah, I'm not sure specifically. Like I said, it's still
it's still work in progress. So it's it's a ways
to go and we're just gonna see, like where where
I play best at, where I feel best at?
Speaker 1 (13:57):
What's it been like?
Speaker 10 (13:57):
Uh looking at the playbook and uh learning what with you?
Speaker 13 (14:03):
It's been It's been pretty good. It's for the most part,
it's easy. I prot myself on being able to adjust
pretty quickly and things like that. I had a a
couple of different different, uh, defense coordinators in college, and
I was able to adjust pretty good.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
So it's been it's been cool.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Ye.
Speaker 13 (14:15):
Uh so.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
Yeah, that that's another part of the story.
Speaker 7 (14:21):
How did that coaching staff.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
It was. It was great. Uh.
Speaker 13 (14:26):
I think being sec and having being blessed to have
the coaches I had, I was prepared for to go
to the next level and just being able to go
from that or the coaching staff I had to this
is is a great adjustment. Uh, it's been pretty pretty
easy to adjust for the most part so far.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
That you had the chance to interact.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
Not really just a little handshake.
Speaker 13 (14:46):
You know, we're pretty busy right now in campra stuff
like that, and I know I have playing a question
for him in the future and things like that, but
it's just a handshake of greeting things like that.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
Could you talk about just maybe looking up to him
as a like a professional Mentoris thinking a previous interview
you've mentioned him as somebody that you really look up to,
and right did buy him.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
Yeah, I've been watching him since high school. You know.
Speaker 13 (15:04):
I feel like, of course I'm a lot bigger or whatnot,
but those those were some people I try to model
my game at there as far as being a dominant
run stopper and things like that. I think, again, like
I said, it's like a movie script. Being put in
a position to have somebody that you look up to
and somebody you try to model your game after as
a leader or a vet on your team in position group.
Uh yeah, I just I I feel like I'm blessed.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
It was this regular handshake. It it was nice.
Speaker 7 (15:29):
Has w what's Todd Balls told you?
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (15:32):
Specific like have you had a chance one on one?
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Yeah? We haven't had any one on ones? Uh.
Speaker 13 (15:37):
I know that he was very interested in me, you know,
just you know, talking and whatnot, hear and hearing the
advice that you have for me. So I'm just taking
it in and trying to progress.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
Did you k you couldn't hit twenty one?
Speaker 6 (15:47):
Just fifty six?
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Is a story to it?
Speaker 3 (15:49):
Or just no story to it? That's that's his number.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
There's a fancy to really reading about you, following your story.
Speaker 6 (15:56):
Have you kind of felt that love?
Speaker 3 (15:57):
And why why do you think that is? Yes?
Speaker 13 (16:00):
Of course I I felt the love. Why do I
think that it is? Mainly because it's mostly unheard of.
I feel like people can really uh gravitate towards me.
It's feel like that my whole life as far as
just I guess the energy I care around, carry around
stuff like that. I'm not sure what it is that
makes some gravitate towards me, but I do appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (16:15):
You know, you're like.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
Entering this level.
Speaker 7 (16:18):
You're kind of like a one on one.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (16:20):
Uh well, I feel like my name is is extra
history of course, as being the official, you know, heaviest
player in NFL or what not. It's a good story.
But at the same time, I don't want that be
to be my narrative and things like that. I wanna
be known as a football player, and a good football
player at that. But it's it's nice to be able
to make history. I guess again cause I there in
college too, But it's nice to be able to make history.
But at all in all, I am a football player
and I wanna be known as a good one at that.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
So it's just a process that comes with it.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
I guess you could be a chance to, you know,
like shake hands with says Johnson's smallest.
Speaker 13 (16:49):
And yeah, yeah, yeah. I think he did media yesterday
and came up to me and we spoke about it.
But I think that just goes to show how like
good of a sport that football is. You know, you
can have a person that's his sides and the person
that's my side on the same field.
Speaker 9 (17:01):
You know.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
It's just it's good to see.
Speaker 6 (17:06):
I'm sure.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
I'm sure it happened eventually.
Speaker 7 (17:09):
For in in football.
Speaker 8 (17:11):
Not all sports are like this where they catered towards
like one body type, right that in f on on
a football team, you need a variety of different skill sets,
talents and also body types that allow you to do
those things.
Speaker 13 (17:21):
Yeah, I think that's that's one of the things that
make football the best sport. You know, to me personally,
it's just nice to be able to see the the uh,
the variety of different people, different personalities, different backgrounds, and
even different sizes.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
You had a very successful carry in that too lane
and you picked up a first down, right, you're only.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Toach in college. What was that like? And uh you
just talk about that moment.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
Yeah, it was. It was special.
Speaker 9 (17:43):
You know.
Speaker 13 (17:43):
Uh, A lot of the people, my supporters and things
like that, have been trying to get me and my
coachest to have to do it, and I was always
against it, I guess, but I feel like to finish
off my college career, I had to had to give
most people what they wanted to see.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
It's just not my thing.
Speaker 13 (17:58):
I play d line, you know that yeah, but I
you know, I'm I think I it's just a a
meet thing, you know. I like to play d line,
that is what it is. It's hard to hold the
ball when you haven't been trained to do it too, so.
Speaker 7 (18:11):
You know, and his high school, you know, he's.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
Just a running back.
Speaker 8 (18:14):
Yeah he's he's even lined up a little bit on offer.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
Yeah, I've seen it. I've seen it.
Speaker 7 (18:18):
Yeah, you get you get fans that they clamor for it.
They call it a we need a fixed six.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
That's what it's called.
Speaker 13 (18:23):
I never heard that, Okay, yeah, I never heard that.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
Oh were were your friend growing up?
Speaker 7 (18:31):
Mm?
Speaker 13 (18:32):
No, I wasn't. Honestly I wasn't, but I am now.
My mom My mom was a uh a Bucks fan.
She would always trying to draw me to it. So
I guess another thing that goes into the movie script,
you know, is just justin't another team.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
I'm I'm buck standing now, so.
Speaker 7 (18:46):
Cause I guess that she probably was a War fan.
Speaker 13 (18:48):
Then she's just been a Bucks fan as far as
I can remember. She I don't think she had like
a specific player that she was just you know, but
it's definitely Buck saying what do you are.
Speaker 7 (18:57):
The misconceptions you think that people have about.
Speaker 5 (18:59):
You and and being.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
I'm not sure. I really try not to pay attention
to it.
Speaker 13 (19:05):
I try to focus on on what I'm good at
and get better at the things that I'm not good
at it. So UH, if there is, hopefully I can
prove them wrong in the future. But as right now,
it's not really anything our main thing. I'm harping on what.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
You're planning now until the close to training.
Speaker 13 (19:19):
Came, where you been working on just getting better progress?
Uh as far as the way thing you know, working
with NUTR new nutrition iss. Uh, getting a plan and
just being being better by the time we get to
that point.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
What are you looking as a defensive tackle technique wise,
position wise.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
To improve on everything? Uh?
Speaker 13 (19:39):
Like I said, I was blessed to have a a
a good vet in front of me. UH, great coaches
and things like that. Just everything that they they can
help me on.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (19:47):
I feel like that's what makes uh a good FO
good football player, a good football player. UH, taking everything
in and being able to apply it anything else.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
THANKR.
Speaker 10 (19:59):
I was uh yesterday that was everything going for you,
just adjusting and get down here in Tampa. Saw on
your YouTube and moving down and everything pretty excited.
Speaker 12 (20:07):
Yeah, I tried to get down here early so I
could connect with some guys on the team already, Like Antoine.
He helped me a lot, get me with you know,
certain coaches that I needed to talk to. Don't learn
extra and I was just, you know, just happy for
this opportunity to just grateful. I just want to prepare
myself the best I can, you know, for this rookie camp,
(20:28):
and yesterday was a good day.
Speaker 13 (20:30):
Ton Bowles said, yesterday when very intelligent, very loud, and
I know he likes I know he likes communication.
Speaker 6 (20:37):
I'm just being cool right now, but I get really loud.
Speaker 12 (20:41):
But that's not that's the number one thing you have
to do as a safety is just be able to
communicate and just be an extension of the defensive coordinator
on the field.
Speaker 8 (20:49):
Speaking of coach Bowles, I know there was a video
actually the Bucks just tweeted it out. It was your
kind of celebration for signing with the Bucks, and your
dad said some really kind things about coach Boles.
Speaker 5 (20:59):
Would have been your impressions and him.
Speaker 12 (21:01):
He's a great coach, great leader, and he's very knowledgeable
about this game. And to have a guy like that
that I could just go talk to whenever and learn football.
And you know him also helped me get this opportunity.
Speaker 6 (21:16):
You know him.
Speaker 12 (21:17):
My dad got on the phone right after I had
signed and he told him that it was it was
interested in me and they can't wait to see what
I could do here. And I just want to, you know,
make everybody proud, especially coach Bowl that you have.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Choices, right, So what what made you think that this
would be a great situation for you?
Speaker 6 (21:36):
Man?
Speaker 12 (21:36):
Look at where we're at, you know what I'm saying, Like,
just look at the whole coaching staff. It's like it's
real supportive coaching staff. Everybody wants to see everybody do good.
Even the guys on the team just been talking to everybody.
Everybody's cool. We all want to see each other win.
And it's just a great environment, you know, to thrive.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
And is talking about the need for ball hawks this
off season.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
He wants more Hawks and the secondary the foreignerceptions of
Jackson stateia pick six of Colorado forced four fumbles? What
what about taking the ball away?
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Is in your wheelhouse?
Speaker 12 (22:12):
It's just it think either you got it or you don't.
But throughout my whole career. I've always been, you know,
a guy that gets the ball out in any way,
shape or form, forced fumbles, pigs, it is.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
What it is.
Speaker 12 (22:25):
I'm gonna get the ball, and you know that's the
whole part of playing defense.
Speaker 6 (22:30):
We want to get offense the ball.
Speaker 10 (22:32):
What was the draft process like for you, whether your
expectations were being drafted or whether how confident were you going.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
Into the draft.
Speaker 12 (22:41):
You know, I put it in the work, you know,
I film it is what it is at that point.
Now it's up to guy's playing, and you see how
everything unfolded. Everything ended up being great for me and
my brother. You know, I know he's alluding to him too.
Everything was good, you know, just just we're just excited
for these opportunities we have and uh, the situations that
(23:03):
we're in.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
It.
Speaker 6 (23:04):
We're just thankful for everything.
Speaker 8 (23:05):
You celebrated moment getting that phone call like it was
your own.
Speaker 7 (23:09):
Just can you talk about what it's been like.
Speaker 8 (23:10):
Having to experience all of this for the first time
with him, and just what that moment was like for.
Speaker 12 (23:16):
You, knowing all the work, he's been missing me, He's
been calling me in the morning. He'll call me at
like six am because we're on the same schedule right now. Actually,
I think he's doing the interview right now too, So
you know, he needs he wants some brotherly love. You know,
he misses me and stuff. His big brother's not next
to him no more in practice, and you know we
talk a lot, so y'all yesterday, yes, Like, he'll call
(23:40):
me in the morning and he actually called me. I
stay later to meet with coach of shot and he'll call.
Speaker 6 (23:47):
Me during the meeting.
Speaker 12 (23:48):
I'm like, Bro, you messing up my study session. Ro
you need to be studying right now. But nah, we
we we talk. Actually, I think he really does miss
me though.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Well, you had a couple of years at South Carolina
where you weren't with your dad or your brother. Is
that transition to Tampa Bay gonna be a little bit
smoother because you were all together as a family at
Jackson State, Colorado.
Speaker 12 (24:11):
For I think every step in my life, everything that
God put me through, prepared me for things that happen
in the future for me, So South Carolina and going
there and getting on a new team, new environment, new
locker room, new coaches, and having to work my way
up from not playing at all to you know, getting
(24:32):
some playtime, and what it takes to be trusted by
the coaches that taught me a lot.
Speaker 6 (24:37):
And as a safety you got to be.
Speaker 12 (24:39):
Trusted knowledge wise and that comes from preparation and studying.
And that's all I've been doing this whole time.
Speaker 11 (24:47):
Did your know not only was your dad Hall of
Famer also played defensive back. I'm sure he's given you
a lot of advice now coming down here.
Speaker 7 (24:55):
Is there something that's at the top.
Speaker 11 (24:58):
The best piece of advice that your dad has given you?
Speaker 3 (25:01):
Now?
Speaker 12 (25:01):
Being an NFL player, well, him as my coach, he
teaches us how to practice, how to go full speed,
and how to prepare, you know. So I just listened
to him and the coaches he's hired, you know, along
this college career that I've had, and and just took
business pieces from everybody and just put it all together.
Speaker 8 (25:20):
You've talked about the fact that like every step that
you've been at in your life has.
Speaker 5 (25:24):
Taught you something different.
Speaker 8 (25:25):
You've spent so much of your life living under the microscope,
you know, streaming a lot online, social media things like that.
Speaker 7 (25:32):
So what has it been like for.
Speaker 8 (25:33):
You kind of experiencing these moments, these high highs, but
also moments of disappointment.
Speaker 7 (25:38):
Like having to experience that like in a very public way.
Speaker 12 (25:41):
Oh well, my take on being disappointed and loads is
like it's not real low because you can't change the
past and you can't really do anything about something already happened.
So I just you know, I just trust God and
I always end up doing something great, so I just
know it's gonna happen. And whatever is happening currently is
(26:02):
is to learn or to grow from.
Speaker 5 (26:04):
Is that kind of the attitude.
Speaker 8 (26:05):
And you take from like not hearing your name called
on draft day, but instead you get a phone call, You.
Speaker 7 (26:09):
Get to choose your spot, going to a team that
you think you have a great opportunity out and use
a solver lining.
Speaker 12 (26:15):
I don't know if y'all know, but the Bucks was
the first team to call, and they gave me a
chance before anyone. So I'm forever grateful to the Buccaneers.
And you know, I'm just gonna do everything I can
to help this team win. Everything in my power to
help this team win, and that's all I want.
Speaker 6 (26:35):
Right after the draft ended, I was.
Speaker 12 (26:39):
I was on the stream because I streamed the whole draft,
so I was like, all right, y'all, I gotta go
tell the coach Prime, I gotta go get on the
team real quick.
Speaker 6 (26:48):
I'll be right back. So I left.
Speaker 12 (26:50):
As soon as I walked down the stairs, my agent
called and said Bucks are offering you a contract. And
I think I did the dougiebout for fifteen minutes. But
uh but nah, I I'm just, you know, so grateful
for the opportunity you know, of them give me this
chance when nobody else would at that time.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
So sha'll have to talk about iron sharping's iron right.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
And you're gonna as a defensive back against Mike Evans,
Chris Godwin when he returns to the field, Gila McMillan
had a great year day touchdowns and now.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
What is that gonna be like?
Speaker 2 (27:25):
Going up against the star studed wide receiving court in practice.
Speaker 6 (27:29):
It's gonna be great. You know. It's just gonna make
everyone better.
Speaker 12 (27:33):
And I'm a competitor, so you know, it's just a
blessing being able to practice against guys like that.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
Have you had any contact with any of the vetters an.
Speaker 12 (27:43):
Reach out to you or yes, I'm already preparing on
Sunday to get in the safety group chat for all
the snacks. I'm gonna be the snack guy. So we're
just gonna get a get a whole wholesale. I'm gonna
have everything everybody needs. So because the meetings are really long,
so I understand. So yeah, but we'll find out on Sunday.
(28:06):
I might have like a little spreadsheet with everybody's favorite
stuff on there. You know what I'm saying, what you
I'm just a rookie. Yeah, I have to bring my
own up. I gotta make sure that the vests are good.
You know what I'm saying. Because they really been helping
me and teaching me a lot of stuff. I'm really
grateful for that. So that's the least I can do.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
What are your best on Tampa so far? And before
training camp for yourself?
Speaker 12 (28:32):
The plan before training camp, I got out here early
and just to prepare walking around and feel that he
you know, walked around the beach train at Plant High School,
I think trained up there, shout out the coach and
you know, just really try to get myself acclimated to this.
(28:53):
And coming from Colorado really helped me, like wind wise,
like with my conditioning. So just being out here being
ready to go and you know being metically prepared to
be the safety that coach wants me to be. Communicate,
be a leader, stuff like that clear water. Hey, y'all
give me some beach recommendations.
Speaker 6 (29:14):
Also know people for.
Speaker 5 (29:22):
You want really like nature, like all nature
Speaker 6 (29:25):
Are y'all gonna be a practice
