He said, touchdown.

The latest news and notes from the insiders who cover
the team.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Touchdown, Tyler Murray. That defender is in multiple pieces.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Oh that was nasty right there.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Rights slam the ground by fooda baker like a torpedo.
He came flying into the backfield.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
I ain't scared of nobody.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Here's Paul Calvic.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
We are gathered here today at Cardinals camp twenty twenty
five moments ago, and he said, the big hammer is
my ISO, so we know we're absolutely ready to go here,
Paul Calvic, Darren.
Speaker 5 (01:07):
Urban's not giving any context.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
I'm going to start actually with how the first padded
practice ended, which I think says it all in training camp.
Here's the following do you guys, hear this. We're all
standing in the same general area. It was third string
against third string. Might have been four string against four string.
I'm not exactly sure, but the very last play from
scrimmage was a spectacular touchdown catch in the back of
(01:30):
the end zone, and a very prominent player I'm gonna
protect the names of the innocent here behind us yelled out, Wow, touchdown,
great catch. What's that guy's name again? Literally didn't know
the receiver's name. I didn't get much of a reaction
on this.
Speaker 6 (01:47):
I don't want to rain on anybody's parade, but both
referees called him out of bounce.
Speaker 5 (01:52):
Wow, And I also don't want to rain on your parade.
Speaker 7 (01:56):
I was not able to be there at that time
because I was getting set up for a sit down
in a but I take your.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Word it was.
Speaker 6 (02:01):
It was a spectacular catch. Was it by uh, I'm
trying to remember. Was it Quiz Watkins? Was it Tristan Jackson?
Speaker 2 (02:09):
So you know what that little anecdote, that play by play,
that to me sums up training camp, any training camp,
is actually further illuminating because Darren shuts me down with
the particulars right he tells me that technically I'm wrong,
and then Danny big times me by saying I was
sitting down for an interview with like the franchise quarterback
or something. She spared me the name on that one,
just not to make me feel bad. So you know
(02:30):
what that does sort of summarize where we are here
at training camp.
Speaker 5 (02:33):
We have funny here at State Farm Stadium.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Don't Paul, Danny, we'll get into a certain outtake that
you tweeted out a little bit later. Not really sure
if there's an agenda. I don't need any help looking bad.
I'll just say that we have the rest of cardinals
underground for yours truly to look bad?
Speaker 4 (02:53):
Can we?
Speaker 6 (02:53):
Speaking of looking excellent, you have not shaven your mustache yet.
You said our last recording that it was probably gonna
be gone by now, and it is still there. Well,
I and drawing plot.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
It's all over the place. I've noticed.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Well, I went up the food chain of decision makers
just to see there's a little event on Sunday in
front of the fans, and you know, should I get
rid of it by day? They said no, you know,
it's still early in camp. But by the time the
last TV preseason game comes around because speaking a big time,
Dave Pash is going to hand to Ireland for Week
zero in college football, you might want to lose it
(03:28):
by the time the TV broadcast against the Raiders, and
I said, okay, I'll take that as more than just
a little hint. So that's that's sort of the game
under advisement. You know what we're doing. So the clock
is ticking. But once again, nothing says training camp like
a really bad mustache and a fully padded practice which
we break down rep by rep, do we not? It
is amazing. By the time we get to week one,
(03:50):
we're like, what were we doing? But it's all we
have at this point. We're trying to figure out, Okay,
where do certain players stand. I'll give you two quick takeaways.
You guys can agree or disagree here Cardinals underground, I
know you will. Everyone's mission and objective is to be
regular season ready by the time you go to New Orleans.
Mac Wilson senior looks regular season ready. Might want to
(04:11):
put him in bubble wrap right now. And then there
are other guys who's sort of playing their way into shape.
Kalais Campbell, and he said as much to the media
in the off season, right, I mean, he's looking good,
but I sort of look at Khalais I go, you
know what, we still have four or five, maybe even
six weeks to go. You know, he's sort of getting himself.
He knows where he needs to be at what point,
and then there's everyone else who's in between.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
No, I think, you know, it's funny.
Speaker 6 (04:36):
After that first pat of practice, it was Kyler Murray's
time at the podium after practice, and the first thing
he said was, yeah, it was not a good day
for the offense. We've played really well in camp and
this was our first bad day, and of course this
is the day I gotta come talk to all you all.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
And I don't think he was thrilled about that.
Speaker 6 (04:56):
The one thing I noticed with the pads was that
the defense stood out.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
And when we talk.
Speaker 6 (05:03):
About the pads, like, yeah, it's crazy that we're putting
so much emphasis on this and everything. But at the
same time, it's like for those of us who are
trying to see, especially on a team that built up
its defensive line, like you literally can't get any real
sense of what either line looks like until the pads
come on. So it is a big deal for that
(05:24):
first day.
Speaker 7 (05:25):
It's interesting in camp of what we are watching is
we don't know the true goal of certain drills. There
are going to be some drill, some parts of team
periods that are geared towards defense, or gear towards offense,
or they are working on something so particular that you're thinking,
why did the quarterback hang onto the ball, but he
was he was tasked with going through and hitting his
(05:47):
third read right. So there's so many things that we
don't truly know when we are watching practice. From what
we could see, the defense is what shined in that
first padded practice. I mean in team drills, they were
I say getting pressure because it's still such limited contact, right,
nobody's going near any quarterback, but the defense was getting
(06:07):
in the backfield.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
I'm going to just quick thing.
Speaker 6 (06:10):
Jonathan Gannon has already mentioned what two or three times
about I had to tell ex player getting too close
to the quarterback. So don't say they're not getting too
close to the quarterback, because apparently they are.
Speaker 7 (06:20):
What I do want to keep my eye on when
we're doing team drills is who is earning first team reps.
It's not solidified this early into training camp, especially this
far out from week one.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
What it does tell you.
Speaker 7 (06:32):
Is who is picking things up physically mentally to go
out and earn those reps. And so when you see
a rookie light cornerback Will Johnson getting some first team reps,
that is big. When you see it's outside linebacker Baron
Browning opposite of Josh Sweat, that is telling. That's what
you can really gather from these early team drills, what
they have their pads on.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
Is there any position more contester right now than the
inside linebacker spot next to the mic linebacker in terms
of of the number of guys who have run first
team with Mac Wilson Senior. I mean, let's name names
right here. It's everyone from Owen Papo to a Keen
Davis Gather. You've seen Cody Simon, We even saw Xavon Collins.
Speaker 6 (07:12):
I know, I'm surprised you didn't lead with that, Paul.
I was expecting to bring that up right away.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
You know, I just I didn't want to, you know,
save the flex for a little bit later on the whole.
Zavon Collins, I don't know, it's two three months ago.
We identified it and got we really, you know, got
shouted down around here on Cardinals Underground, is Paul, where's
your ven mits some sort of hot take, But no,
when you were so loaded along that defensive front, if
you're looking to get your best dudes on the field
at all time, your best eleven and then all of
(07:38):
a sudden, wait a minute, Zaven Collins has the ability
to literally play six different positions within a defense, and
he probably will, and Nick rollis we know he is
wont to dial it up and put different guys in
different positions at different times, right. I mean, all of
a sudden, offenses are going to be, you know, throwing
out the air raid signal at this point when when
(07:59):
they're getting descend pond by the Cardinals front seven.
Speaker 6 (08:01):
Well, just so you know, the air raid signal is
not like whatever is going on in the background as
almost dies a thousand deaths over here.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
Hearing whatever they're working on in the stadium.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
So, I mean, this is this is real time stuff
we got going here.
Speaker 6 (08:12):
It's not the garbage trucks all right outside the dorm
and the original underground, but it's it's closed.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
It's a good's it's a good throwback right there. I mean,
this is a working camp in more ways than one.
Speaker 7 (08:22):
What I do find interesting when you're talking about middle
linebacker is how many times we saw Mac Wilson Senior
as the only linebacker.
Speaker 6 (08:30):
I was gonna say, how many times are they actually
going to have to inside?
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Good point?
Speaker 7 (08:34):
Wait, we talked about but if you're going to talk
about wanting your best eleven on the field, there are
going to be certain instances where you are not just
a nickel. But I think they're going to be in
dime quite a bit. It all is really going to
stem from what they're going to decide to do at cornerback.
Because when you're not having Starling Thomas, who was placed
(08:54):
on ir Gannon said he's going to be out for
the year. It's reported torn Acl adjustments are going to
have to be made, and it might be as simple
as Johnson stepping up and earning a starting role opposite
of Max Melton. From what we've seen, though, there's a
good chance that Garrett Williams will move outside quite a
bit and not just stay in the slot corner. And
(09:14):
so if you're going to move Williams outside, we've seen
Rabbit Taylor Demerson come in and join Buddha Baker and
Jalen Thompson. So I think they're going to get creative,
and I think we're going to see Garrett Williams play
outside cornerback more than we have in his time here.
Speaker 6 (09:29):
I think I think a he was in my opinion,
he was always going to do that even before Starling
Thomas got hurt.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
Really yeah, I do think, not as much as he's
going to now.
Speaker 6 (09:39):
And I absolutely believe based on how they've been lining
up that Garrett Williams coming into this camp, because we
saw it before Starling got hurt, he was going to
be one of the two cornerbacks when you were in
a base defense. Now, I think we all agree that
most of the time they're going to have three corners
out there or five defensive backs, and in that case,
Garrett Williams is probably going to be the slot. But
I've noticed that every time they've lined up in Bay,
(10:01):
almost every time they've lined up in base and they've
only got two safeties and two corners. Garrett Williams is
one of the outside corners. So you know, I had
seen a lot of stuff out there between fans talking about,
like Garrett Williams, he's only in nickel he's only in nickel.
You know, Garrett Williams was making the point the other
day in the locker room. All he played in college
(10:22):
was outside. He didn't become this nickel safety thing until
he got here, so you know he can't do it.
And you know Jonathan Gannon nick rosis has said he
can do it the whole time. It's just they're better
sit up the other way. And I and you know, Danny,
you made the point like you're gonna have if you
have three defensive backs, he's going to be the nickel.
You'll have two other guys playing outside. But I am
(10:43):
fascinated about the dime thing, Like I'm I'm fascinating how
often they might have three cornerbacks and three safeties and
when you're talking about having their best players on the field.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
I mean, I was coaching up Ron Wolfley on the
Game of Football and I was saying, now, wait a minute,
if they consistently go dime was six defensive backs, won't
the opposing offense make an adjustment and cram that vertical
against the Cardinals defense? And then we got into well, sure,
but if you're much more equipped to stop the run
with four and Drew stand has made that point on
(11:15):
Red Sea Report throughout the offseason. Everyone, you know, guys
like us, you know, we're like, oh, you know great,
you know you can rush for no, no, no, First, you
got to be able to stop the run with four.
Then that really unlocks what Nick Ross can do with
the back seven. And so if that's the case, then
I guess that's how you get away with playing just
a single inside linebacker.
Speaker 6 (11:31):
And that's and that's kind of what I was thinking
is when they upgraded. It was like, and I think
of written at or whatever, like if you only have
the four I've done in a couple of interviews, if
you've got four guys that can stop the run or
five with the linebacker, And let's not put aside that
you also have a safety who not only has shown
the ability to stop the run because he doesn't care
(11:54):
about his body, but he also has the flexibility to
read the.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
Play and get closer.
Speaker 6 (12:00):
So you might have six defensive backs out there, but
if Buddha Baker smells something and gets to the line
of scrimmage, all of a sudden, the alignment at the
snap might not be six defensive backs.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Ish we're talking about Buddha running into the darkness. Is
that what you're saying. That's what I'm saying, the Troy
Polamalo of box safety. So I'm gonna go with that
this year. What do you think about that, Danny right,
thinking like that.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
Okay, that's a long nickname.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
I mean, it's not a s'more, but you know it's
it's Okay. Here's the other thing I'll say before we
get into what we really came to watch in the
powder practice, which was Olne d Line the whole Starling
Thomas the fifth season ending injury. Man does that stink?
But man, does that open up an opportunity for either
Denzel Burke or Elijah Jones? Right, I mean the time
(12:43):
is all Clark, Petrel Clark, The time is now for
those three young cornerbacks. To me, I mean that's sort
of you know, under the radar might be the most
competitive position battle right now on this team.
Speaker 7 (12:56):
Absolutely that you're going to get good reps, whether that
is practice. I think we're going to see a lot
of those younger players get some good reps in preseason
games to try and get a good look of them.
That's the name of the game. It's the unfortunate part
of it, but injuries are going to happen. And when
they say next man out mentality, this is what they mean.
Speaker 6 (13:15):
I it's it's interesting, it's very it's he didn't say
anything that everybody didn't already know, but for the coach
to come out and say, business wise, it's a huge
thing because Starling was going to be on this roster
and now essentially somebody who wasn't going to be on
the roster is now going to be on the roster.
(13:36):
We knew that, but usually coaches don't say that, and
it's it's it just struck.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Me by the way the little bit of intel have
been able to glean. Denzil Burke is really equipped to
play outside or inside. So they like that flexibility.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
They love their versatility.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
They love that. Elijah Jones bigger corner, not so much
an inside or slock corner, more of an outside guy.
But he's long, lanky, I mean, his measurables, his skill
set is really intriguing. Question is, okay, how quickly can
he navigate the learning curve because he's so many different ways.
He's really a rookie all over again. Elijah Jones, after
(14:11):
missing the entirety of last season, so I'm guessing all
three of those guys are gonna get a lot of
reps in preseason games.
Speaker 6 (14:19):
It was funny watching at the first pat of practice
the one on ones. The first one on one for
key Trow Clark was Michael Wilson, and he was Clark
was in a good position, trailing, but he was in
a good position, and Michael Wilson put, I mean, if
it was basketball, it would have been the ankle breaker crossover.
(14:40):
And he put a move on and completely lost Clark
and then darted away and made the catch. And Key
Trow had like a little smile on his face and
kind of patted Michael Wilson on the helmet after It's
like you got me. But the next time Wilson was up,
somebody else was supposed to take Wilson and Clark said, no, no, no,
I get him this time.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
And he made the play.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Yeah, the p he was an out towards in your
side line, right, I remember that. Yep, he did. He
did make that pass breakup. That was good. But the
advantages with the offense, there's so much space.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
Yeah, the ones, I mean you got to cover.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
For like six or seven seconds. I mean you got
into it you get a safety against Greg Dortch in space.
I mean, you know you're just getting roasted. Yes, it's
brutal in so many ways. I mean, the propensity to
look bad as a dB in that drill is huge. Yes,
there's no doubt about this. So uh but old line,
d line, all right, give me some takeaways on that.
(15:33):
There were some heavyweight bouts Dalvin Tomlinson against Yelda Froholt. Yes,
I mean that was like, wow, okay.
Speaker 5 (15:40):
Hole held his own.
Speaker 7 (15:42):
He did because Paris Johnson Junior earlier in the week
he said he was excited to go up against Thomlinson.
Speaker 5 (15:47):
And called him a wall, and then fro Holt held
his own.
Speaker 6 (15:51):
I know we're gonna we'll probably touch on a q
Shipley in a minute, but I you know, Aq is
even before he was just hired to be the Cardinals
color analyst to replace Ron Wolfley.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
He's a guy who brokes. He loves Yell defro hold.
Speaker 6 (16:05):
He was mentioning it before we started recording today on
the Pat McAfee show, how much he likes yell defro hold.
And it's really amazing as we talk about it, and
I thought I thought the same thing. I'm like to me,
yelled to one the day with those two guys. I
it is amazing how impressive he has been. And I've
said this a million times, how impressive Yell defroh hole
(16:26):
has been considering how little fanfare he signed for. And
we talked that whole offseason. Okay, he's the center now,
and we kept waiting, who are they going to sign
and training camp? We who's going to be their center?
Who's gonna is John Gaines gonna be their sent like?
Who who's gonna end up? And it was Yelled that
ended up keeping the job. And not only to keep
the job, He's done a great job.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
You know, it's a big red rage. Thursday night, we
were looking at the rosterally Wolf went to this whole
thing where Koleis is the rectangle, Dalvin Tomlinson is the square.
Okay in terms of body types, and when you're looking
at the defensive line, I'm like, all right, Wolf, that's
pretty good. And then I said, uh, true or false? Wolf?
Are you buying three twenty five the listed weight for
(17:10):
Dalvin Thomason. Well, the very next morning they up to
to three thirty five. Yes, most of the guys on
the sideline, think you need to add another ten And
speaking a Q Shipley, how many times off the record
in the locker room over the years we talked to
him and he'd go against some premier defensive lineman, some
nose tackle I don't know, Dexter Lawrence type or whatever,
and they list him at like three thirties, Like, yeah,
no chance that guy isn't a biscuit under three sixty five.
(17:32):
Like the amount of fudging they do on the listed
weights on some of these nose tackles around the NFL
is almost comical. And I can't wait to get into
it with a Q Shipley about that and Dalvin Thomason.
I'd love to get a real reading on the lbs.
Speaker 4 (17:46):
Well, let's let's be nice. I mean, we don't want
a body shame.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
Well and look, this is what makes him an NFL player,
the fact he can move like that. Yeah, at that
size right and that girth thing is I want to
see him now, Okay, yelled a Frohold. Check that box
your regular season ready, you know, go stand over there
with Mac Wilson Senior. I do want to see Dalmond
Tomlinson against Isaiah Adams next, Isaiah Adams against Kalais was
(18:10):
good stuff and I thought he held his own, But
now I mean but more I really want to see
because you know, for Isaia Adams, I think that is
the big test. He's technically proficient enough and I think
his mechanics are good enough from what we hear. I'm
the last guy you should be breaking down O line play.
I'm gonna admit that right now, Polly Pencilneck. But it's
sort of the big dude who bull rush, And that's
why I want to see Dalvin Tomlinson against the young
(18:31):
guy Isaiah Adams.
Speaker 7 (18:32):
The first head to head between Campbell and Adams, Adams
held his own, and the second one he didn't, and
it would have been a pretty bad holding call for
Campbell to get past him. It is not to undermine
adams play, but you were talking on it earlier in
the show of Campbell is still getting warmed up. He's
been very clear about that, right he needs a little
bit more time to kind of rev up his engine.
Speaker 5 (18:53):
So I'd be curious as we see more one on ones, maybe.
Speaker 7 (18:57):
Later next week, and if those two go head ahead
all and all, the offensive line fared pretty well against
that defensive front. Josh sweat and Paris Johnson Junior was
a great matchup. Justin Jones, who's coming back from a
triceps injury, looked good.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
And when I set out some of the videos, Rob
Frederickson reacted to the Dante Stills. He's like, you're not
giving enough love to Dante Stills and what he's been
able to do.
Speaker 6 (19:19):
I kind of feel bad for Dante Stills a little
bit because of all the other people that we've mentioned
and everybody that they have in that room that he's went.
I mean, nobody's talking about him. But that being said,
that's what happens when you build up a room, people
are going to fall under the radar. And Balal Nichols
isn't even playing right now, so I mean again, that's
(19:41):
why when the Walter Nolan injury hit, and to a
lesser extent, the Starling Thomas. It's not that they aren't
hurt by losing players like that, but if you had
to pick two areas where they built up enough that
they could sustain a single injury, those are the two places.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
I was talking about. Defensive line. No one was talking
nearly enough about Elijah Simmons until we named him our
poly pigskin breakout player a camp.
Speaker 5 (20:08):
How about you have one, Ladies and gentlemen.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
He did his homework, just beat the deadline. I would
say it was approximately two and a half minutes before
the first padded practice commenced. We sent out there Elijah
Simmons the nose tackle six one, three thirty five. We
would like a more accurate reading on that weight. By
the way, the rookie out of Tennessee and then the
seventh round pick, Keaton Crawford. So those were the Those
(20:31):
are the two guys, at least the vibe I get
on the sideline. Players no players, coaches, no players. Those
are the two guys are most interested to see.
Speaker 6 (20:40):
I'll be honest, I've noticed Crawford quite a bit. Now
he's obviously playing down the depth chart, but I feel
like I've noticed him and the fact that he was
so good on special teams. I think you're looking for
a young guy to make the team on special teams
if that's possible. Simmons is going to be in a
whole different world because of what we were just talking about.
I mean, we're talking about Dante Stills having a fight
(21:01):
for a place. Elijah Simmons is going to be tough,
but I know they really really liked him. During the draft.
He was he nearly was one other draft pick, so
to get him undrafted was pretty big.
Speaker 7 (21:12):
Simmons had good reps one on one against rookie Hayden Connor.
What's interesting is to not spoil the whole interview, but
I did have a chance to sit down and talk
with defensive line coach coach Debo.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
Who was he wearing the cleats?
Speaker 7 (21:24):
He was not wearing them. He doesn't wear cleats in practice.
It is a hands on approach doing the drills.
Speaker 5 (21:28):
With his players.
Speaker 7 (21:30):
And I asked him, I said, which player do you
jump out of the way a hair early, no hesitation.
Elijah Simmons Really that was the name he mentioned.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
Interesting, Okay, I feel better about that right now. But
as far as Keen Crawford goes and we'll move on.
Just one quick thought on the seventh round or don't
forget Cardinals last year lost Zach Paskeal, Yeah, Dennis Gardek,
Jesse Luketta. It was the released three guys who played
all the special teams. They played all four special teams.
I mean, those were some of Jeff Rogers stalwarts on teams.
Speaker 7 (22:03):
And it's hard enough for Rabbit to find playing time
in a room with players as successful and skilled as
Buddha Baker and Jalen Thompson. Special teams as a great
way to find your spot on the roster.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
All right, should we get culture, Danny? What do you think?
Speaker 5 (22:19):
Let's do it?
Speaker 6 (22:19):
Can you just say? Am I the philistine here? Because
we don't have the intro?
Speaker 2 (22:23):
I'm always the philistine.
Speaker 7 (22:26):
We don't have the intro music because we are from
the stadium. Okay, well, everybody just take a second think
about the intro in your head?
Speaker 4 (22:32):
Are you going to see all there?
Speaker 5 (22:33):
Let's go, Let's go.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
I mean, check Danny's Twitter account. I was most definitely
the philistine trying to make spores. Oh my goodness, hashtag.
It can always get worse.
Speaker 7 (22:43):
First on the list, how about a little Love Island,
but not the most recent season season seven? Going back
last year Season six, which is the group that really
put the US version on the map, finalists and fan
favorites Jenny and Kenny have seemingly split and it has
caused the uproar amongst people who follow Love Island. There
(23:03):
was a group of six very close friends all the finalists.
Speaker 5 (23:06):
All five of.
Speaker 7 (23:07):
Them, including the men and the TV host of Love Island,
have unfollowed Kenny on Instagram. The influencer whose party they
were out unfollowed him. People don't know what exactly went down,
Rumors of possible cheating or liking other women's photos online.
Speaker 5 (23:22):
People are very curious. I will keep you both updated.
Speaker 4 (23:25):
I will have to.
Speaker 6 (23:26):
Say the the the humanity, the narrative just in general
of the unfollowing. Uh, I'm not just this like anybody
when we because we talk about sports, there was all
the time like, oh that.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
Player unfollowed the team. Something's wrong. It's just it's amazing
how that's a harbor.
Speaker 5 (23:45):
Admit, I hate that, but it is what it is.
That's the world.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
We people talk about it, or that they unfollow that
it's as.
Speaker 5 (23:50):
Big of a deal as it is to unfollow.
Speaker 4 (23:53):
Danny wants to unfollow people in silence.
Speaker 5 (23:56):
And she does.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Do you think, like, okay, so that those are I mean,
I don't know what qualifies as a long lasting relationship
in terms of Love Island, because we're obviously grading on
a curve. To me, if they lasted a year, I
mean that's that's like a whole contents right there.
Speaker 5 (24:11):
Right, I mean, come on the next one.
Speaker 7 (24:13):
It's hard for me to have any sort of hard
feelings towards Beyonce, but I do have a little. She
ended her Cowboy Carter tour in Vegas a few days ago.
I actually saw her in Houston about a month ago,
which was a fantastic performance, possibly the best live performance
I have ever seen.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Wow.
Speaker 7 (24:29):
However, she waited until her last two shows in Vegas
to bring out the big guns of celebrities. She reunited
Destiny's Child, which is the girl bands of all girl bands,
and they looked and sounded incredible. They are still in
sync with not only they're stepping, but the heigh difference
of their heel to the stage.
Speaker 5 (24:48):
They still have it.
Speaker 4 (24:50):
I am really sad. I didn't where was Where was there?
Was it? They in Vegas?
Speaker 5 (24:53):
It was in Vegas.
Speaker 6 (24:54):
See Paul Coral, good friend of mine. You know Paul,
sure he was there with his wife and kids, so
he got to see all that.
Speaker 5 (25:00):
He was blessed to see Destiny's Child.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
You know what. Paul was ahead of me and the
Paul powerpole here locally, and now he fell behind me.
The whole Destiny's Child thing I'm sorry, Paul, I'm sorry.
Speaker 7 (25:09):
Okay, this last one, This last one I will say
is courtesy of my training camp roommate, our team photographer,
Caitlyn Epps, So shout out to her.
Speaker 4 (25:18):
Didn't curl.
Speaker 7 (25:20):
Yes, I'm sorry, but it's her professional name is still
EPP's photography. So if you want to follow her.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
On all socials, say, I think she gets irritated with.
Speaker 7 (25:28):
So Caitlin is the one. I mentioned this when I
was talking about influencer Tricia Petus.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
And the theory that Aquaman.
Speaker 7 (25:36):
Yes Aquaman, that when her children are born on the
same day that major celebrities die, that those celebrities have
been reincarnated as her children. So Caitlyn brought up the
discussion point. It's really more of a question for the
two of you, rather than culturing you. If you could
have a new child, no offense to your already born children,
a new child that is, is a reincarnated celebt.
Speaker 5 (26:00):
Who would you choose?
Speaker 4 (26:02):
Celebrity? It would have to be a celebrity.
Speaker 7 (26:04):
Yes, goodness, Wow, I'll get the ball rolling because I've
had a little bit of time to think about this, right,
I think Robin Williams would be a great answer that
kind of personality and humor.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
I don't know, as long as it would be at home,
because that would be mentally exhausting.
Speaker 6 (26:19):
I mean, if we're just talking about the surface part
of it, I mean, I don't know if I want
to be having a kid reincarnated into somebody with with
all due respective, Robin Williams had a lot of mental
issues in terms of like he struggled his whole life.
I don't it's hard enough being a parent when everything
is quote unquote normal.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
That would be kind of time I'm.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
Saying more than humor. Diana is another good answer.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
Sure, I don't know. Warren Buffett, you know generational wealth?
How about that?
Speaker 4 (26:46):
Yeah, that's that's a. That's a.
Speaker 7 (26:50):
I think this conversation worked better and it was just
Caitlin and myself and our photography.
Speaker 5 (26:53):
Yeah, but that's it. You both have been culture.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
Of your walk could have been teed up so we
get a thought about it.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
But can I can I pose a follow up question
from the yes the footwork comment about Destiny's child or
you're measuring it to within inches of high heels? I mean,
what are you for real on that?
Speaker 7 (27:09):
I mean, when you look at the photos just the
synchronization is it is almost precise the way they are
stepping to the same beat.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
So when you sit down with Kyler Murray, you should
show him a video of that footwork and then you know,
just get his comments. You know, and that's sort of
footwork because you know, there's so much made by Drew
Petsing of his quarterbacks footworks and left foot or right foot,
you know what.
Speaker 7 (27:29):
The quarterback would respect that or would he just get
up and walk away. I don't know if he's a
Destiny's Child fan.
Speaker 6 (27:33):
I did enjoy the fact that, yeah, he's been doing
a lot of country concerts, Like I mean.
Speaker 5 (27:40):
I can't relate to me.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
Maybe he was a cowboy carter himself. Here we go.
Speaker 6 (27:45):
I did find out humorous with Kyler talking about what
makes a good quarterback or how you have to be successful,
and he was talking about being good at the boring
things and acknowledging that he has had to be reminded
over and over to work on the boring things over
and over and over because that's what makes you elite.
(28:05):
I thought that was very self aware and super accurate.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
As long as he doesn't play like that. And what
I mean by that is, he's not Trent Dilfer, he's
not a game manager, he's not a boring quarterback. So
when it's third and gotta have it, be Kyler Murray
and I do think we're gonna see more of that
this year. I really do. I think instead of okay,
(28:30):
you know, first, second, and third objective, stay in the pocket,
read the defense, no, I think when you're in those moments,
I'm Kyler Murray, You're not. I'm gonna get out, I'm
gonna create with my legs. I don't think we've seen
a lot of it, if any of it, here in camp.
But I do think when the regular season starts and
games are on the line, especially in the second half,
(28:51):
that I'd love Craig Riolu get on that start tracking
that stat right now. I'd like to know in certain
moments what the analytics say about Kyler's willingness and propensity
to pull it down and just run and try and
make a defense look stupid.
Speaker 7 (29:05):
The most discussions have been about off script plays, so
we'll see about design quarterback runs. It's not something we
have seen a lot of the last couple of years.
We'll see if that changes this time around.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
What other big picture observations. Have you guys written down
in your notes? I mean speaking agreed, right, you got notes,
you got stabbed.
Speaker 6 (29:23):
I mean I would have to say, because this is
like really low hanging fruit. But I feel like Trey
McBride has been everywhere early and again as good as
he is, I wouldn't be surprised. I mean, obviously Marvin's
gotten the ball and he's going to get the ball.
But like I watch what they're doing out there, and
I'm like, yeah, Trey McBride's not going anywhere. He still
(29:44):
feels like he's going to be target number one.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
How about some of the comments. Kyler himself said that
he turned to Trey the other day and said, you
know what, your name's going to be on these rafters
up here with some of the luminaries in the Ring
of Honor. You keep going to this rate. Jonathan A.
Gannon half. I think about how he told Nick Rolis,
Trey McBride keeps wrecking all our defenses, keeps wrecking all
our practices. You're going to figure out a way how
(30:07):
to check them. And they sort of had a good
nature debate about what do you do? It's the same
debate every division rival, every Cardinals opponent is having. Yes,
how do you defend eighty five?
Speaker 4 (30:17):
You know?
Speaker 6 (30:18):
And again you know when you're using the multi tight
end lineups that they do, formations that they do. It's
not just because they want to run the ball. It's
also in a situation where if you're using all those
tight ends, then you're having more linebackers and defensive linemen
on the field from the defense. And then all of
a sudden, perhaps you get a matchup with Trey McBride
(30:39):
that the defense does not want to have.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
The question I wanted to pose is Drew Pets And
at his press conference they didn't get in and it
got caught off twice. I'm not gonna tell it. Name
names is to which TV anchors cut me off? It
was tip Ryman? Is there a potential for tip Ryman
to be more of a target in the past game?
See for me, I get it in terms of you know, priority,
he's like seventh right in terms of targets, maybe even lower.
(31:02):
But but if Trey's gonna get all that attention and
you don't really have an established wide receiver two or
three yet, I mean, could you catch a defense by
surprise by targeting tip rime.
Speaker 6 (31:14):
I'm not I'm not gonna say no because you want
him on the field when you can, But I just
I mean, he's the third target in the tight end room.
Like they clearly want to go to Elijah Higgins, who
I think has developed. He's been a I mean, Elijah
Higgins is probably not going to reach a Pro Bowl
and you're only gonna have one of those tight ends.
But like, Elijah Higgins has made huge strides in my opinion,
(31:37):
since he showed up and I.
Speaker 5 (31:38):
Shut up as a wide receiver.
Speaker 6 (31:40):
Yes, so, I mean I think he's I think they've
turned that tight end room into which again you and I, Paul,
we've been around this team basically since forever. Like for
them to have this strong of a tight end room
just really shocks.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
Somebody shouted out on the sideline it was a couple
of practices ago. Deepest tight end room in the league.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
I would have to look and I'm like, well enough.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
Interesting, I mean top to bottom one through.
Speaker 4 (32:05):
I know the Cowboys had one, but didn't they just
lose one of their guys.
Speaker 7 (32:09):
It's also interesting of what you would consider a deep
room because what is asked of the tight ends here
in terms of multi set, multi tight end sets, right,
and the blocking is that different than what is asked
of tight ends in other rooms? Like, I don't know it.
It's a good discussion. I think it's just something that's
unique for each team of what is being asked those players.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Well, I mean, you know Trey McBride, Tip Ryman, Elijah Higgins,
and then of course you have Marvin Harrison Junior. You know,
is your four tight end According to Paris Johnson Junior
person that was a.
Speaker 5 (32:43):
Great line weight he put on.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
When Marv walks into the huddle, they're like twelve personnel.
Speaker 6 (32:47):
I enjoyed better when it was like, well Marvin gets
confused and he starts running off.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
No, no, no, no, you're supposed to be out here.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
So have you seen any I don't know before and
after actually, in an as to how the muscle gains
have served Marvin Harrison Jr.
Speaker 4 (33:05):
There was there was a play.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
It's subjective, but have you seen get off me that?
Speaker 4 (33:10):
Well?
Speaker 6 (33:11):
Yeah, there was one with Will Johnson and Pad of
Practice where I think Will was trying to In fact,
it might have been the play you and I kept
talking about. I think Carl Johnson tried to press him
and Marvin just kind of.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
Went and done.
Speaker 6 (33:28):
But but there's been a couple of times where he's pushed.
There was another time on a catch where I think
it was the one on one one, but it was
one of those where you don't go downfield, but you're
curling in so the defenders on your back and just
coming in and I think it was Will Johnson. Actually,
Will Johnson came up and I think Will Johnson thought
the way we're colliding and where my hand is, this
(33:48):
ball's popping out and Marvin didn't let it go, and
I think Will Johnson looked a little surprised, like, wow,
I didn't dislodge that ball, And that's what people are
taalking about. I had a question in the mail bag
this week about how many times last year Marvin lost
the ball because the defender could get his arm in
(34:09):
between his two hands. Now, I'm like, well, I don't
think they have stats on that. I do remember it
happening a couple of times, and I don't care how
strong you are. If you're an NFL player and you're
getting an arm between those two arms in the speed
of the game, it's going to be hard to come
down with a touchdown, you go. But I mean I
(34:31):
do think he just I I agree with Kyler. I
think between the muscle gain and the confidence you're just
naturally going to have. Everybody talks about this year Wonder,
Year two Jump. I don't think it's about the learning
curve to me as much as the confidence anything else.
Speaker 4 (34:46):
I remember.
Speaker 6 (34:49):
Covering this team for the first time full time in
two thousand and then you're you're kind of learning your way.
Speaker 4 (34:54):
I going into this.
Speaker 6 (34:56):
I was so excited to go into my second training
camp because like, I know what I'm doing now. I
think even if you're you don't know all the nuances
of what you still have to learn. There's just a
part of every person that goes into the second year
of whatever it might be, and you're like, Okay, I
can do this as I've done it.
Speaker 7 (35:12):
Absolutely more comfortable and confident in himself. And that shows
in his play, that shows and how he speaks to
the media. What's been key about the weight Harrison has
put on is that it's muscle. That's how you can
add weight and keep speed or actually get faster. Is
not putting on fat, but putting on muscle. So to
put on seemingly eleven pounds of muscle is going to do
(35:33):
nothing but help him. It's going to help him be stronger,
and contesta catches help him be faster when he's breaking
his route. So ideally we should see I don't want
to say it completely new Marvin Harrison Junior, because he
had a good rookie outing, but a very elevated version
of what we saw.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
It's going to be different. You know, the physical strength,
the mental strength of the confidence. I think, the way
they use him, I mean you've already seen him in
motion more in camp. Dare I say you've seen the
cheap motions in some way of the drills that the
Dolphins love to use with Jalen Waddle and Tyreek Hill. Okay,
Craig Grielho had a stat there was some sort of
analytic where he was only in motion seven times last year.
(36:12):
So I think it'll be different in so many, so
many ways. So we'll see. I mean, look, if he
can just increase his rate of contested catch, what does
that do for this offense? A lot? Does a lot.
So beyond that, I'm trying to think any other real
standouts in terms of look in terms of questions, you know,
(36:34):
right side of the offensive line. I'm still wondering about.
There's no doubt about it. Isaiah Adams tracking, Well, we'll
see I mean gotten to the free I meant got
to the red white practice yet, But you know, Jonah
Williams okay, and if not Kelvin Beacham, I mean it
is amazing. You'll see a rookie in those on line
D line drills and they'll struggle and they'll be all
a lot of sorts, and then Kelvin Beachan will make
(36:55):
it look so easy. The best at anything in life
are those who make that ta look easy, and that's
what beach does. So I guess he's always the fallback
plan there. But we'll see. All right, what else do
we have in terms of winning behavior? Are we going
to go through this right here?
Speaker 6 (37:10):
We could do winning behavior no sounder, but you know
we all want we'll see winning behavior.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
I'm waiting because I thought maybe we edited that in later.
But I was also waiting on Cardinal's bird watch that
we would edit out something later and then my smores.
Speaker 5 (37:22):
I'm not in charging meet it.
Speaker 6 (37:24):
Dann Okay, you know what, this is a good place
to start explain what we're talking about. And why is
there already beef between the two of you.
Speaker 5 (37:31):
I don't have beef.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
So maybe it's Matthew over there, my mustachioed colleague over there.
I don't know whoever was responsible for the final edit.
Speaker 7 (37:39):
The Cardinals bird watch. And we had a campfire because
it's camp and any and I was unable to professionally
conduct myself because I got off on a laughing fit
watching Paul try to make a smore and I had
a call a audible in the moment, and we were
(37:59):
both under the person that would not make the final edit,
and much to our surprise.
Speaker 5 (38:03):
It did.
Speaker 6 (38:03):
And you know what that's winning behavior is for that
to make the final edit?
Speaker 2 (38:07):
Right?
Speaker 4 (38:07):
We all need a little humor in ours, Paul.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Yeah, that's right. I'll take one for the team on
that front. I mean, come on, I grew up in
the Silicon Valley. I didn't go any stinking campfires. Okay,
I mean I thought s'more was like a stockticker smo R.
What else do we have? But the earth is spinning
faster this summer.
Speaker 6 (38:23):
Now, yeah, it's not just the summer. I did read
the whole article. It's it's been doing that for a while. Yeah,
then we're talking about milliseconds. But after a while catches
up with you.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
It does. Yeah, point three four and one point twenty
five milliseconds shorter than twenty four hours.
Speaker 4 (38:40):
That adds up over however many years we've been around, Paul.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
What's the margin of error in tracking milliseconds per twenty
four hour period? Because I would like to argue, I
physical we can't even rely on these figures.
Speaker 4 (38:51):
I did not stay at a holiday and express last night.
Speaker 2 (38:53):
I don't know what is the ninety five percent confidence
interval with the degree of marginal are.
Speaker 4 (38:58):
Going to be a hater?
Speaker 2 (38:59):
Okay, let's move on here, coming from the guy who
is consistently a hater whenever I bring out something that's uh,
that's fair culturally savvy idea. Here, Oh Astronomer and the
Gwyneth Paltrow video.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
Yes, we talked about the cold Play couple last week.
Speaker 6 (39:15):
Oh boy, the CEO eventually resigned the company.
Speaker 4 (39:24):
What was it called astronomer?
Speaker 6 (39:25):
Astronomer and I'm still not one hundred percent sure what
they do, but they they hired Gwyneth Paltrow, who not
only is obviously a famous actress also the ex wife
of Coldplay's lead singer, which I did not know, and
they hired her to do a minute long video where
she answers a couple questions about what the company is
(39:49):
all about. And it's so nice that you're you're now
interested in our company. So as long as you're having
you know, as long as you're here and you have
interest in our company, here's what we're about.
Speaker 4 (39:59):
That's pretty I.
Speaker 6 (40:00):
Did see someone as say it would have been cooler
if they'd been been able to get it out a
couple of days earlier than that, because it's some time
it passed. Still, yeah, I mean, still a fantastic pivot.
Speaker 7 (40:11):
Considering where they were crisis management to take advantage of
all the engagement. I did see online that supposedly the
man behind the affair is suing Coldplay.
Speaker 5 (40:23):
I did see that reportedly on what grounds lie distress?
Emotional distress maybe.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
Okay, yeah, maybe in a civil court, damages of some sort.
Speaker 4 (40:31):
Okay, but that video big time winning behavior.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
Yeah. Ryan Reynolds apparently yes, behind that as well. So
sort of remind you ever seen the movie Big Short
on the whole you know, Real Estate Collapse two thousand
and eight and for all the financial you know, Minutia,
they got Margot Robbie in a bubble bath to explain
all the financials, and so I was sort of buckin
to that. Marvin Ayerson Junior eating breakfast okay as the
(40:57):
key to muscle game.
Speaker 4 (40:58):
I thought that was interesting.
Speaker 6 (41:00):
I'm far enough away from being in my early twenties,
but I do recall being in a place where I
never wanted to eat breakfast. And it was just funny
when I'm hearing Marvin Harrison say about one of the things,
and then obviously it's not the only thing. Just going
eating a bunch of eggs isn't going to put on
nine pounds of muscle or eleven pounds of muscle.
Speaker 2 (41:17):
But I don't know it worked for Rocky with all
the raw eggs, you know, in the morning.
Speaker 4 (41:21):
But when he said, I just started eating more.
Speaker 6 (41:23):
I know, I never like to eat breakfast, and I
realized the importance of a good breakfast early in the morning.
And I'm like, and I said in the press conference,
I said, does that make you like every other like
twenty year old and goes, yeah, yeah, it's just getting
an adult. But it is funny, like how when you're
that age, you like have no desire to like to.
Speaker 4 (41:40):
Get her breakfast.
Speaker 6 (41:42):
I mean game sitting here eat drinking a protein shake
instead of my defense.
Speaker 7 (41:46):
I had a five thirty wake up call for seven
am interview and then I'm here, so I didn't really
have breakfast time.
Speaker 4 (41:52):
She's a grinder.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
Paul, Wow, Okay, that's good. But when you see JG,
you know, shout out your wake up call. Whether he's
the one who likes to get up up at five
am and work out.
Speaker 4 (42:02):
He's not the only one. But anyways, fucking.
Speaker 6 (42:08):
But anyways, I just I found it humorous that Marvin
Harrison's like, these guys are pro athletes and they're here
and yet they still like, yeah, I decided I probably
should start eating breakfast.
Speaker 4 (42:21):
I'm like, yeah, you sound like my kids, Like yeah,
good for you.
Speaker 6 (42:24):
My oldest son at one point, there's been so many
times where I see him and he doesn't live with
me anymore, but I see him and I'm like, hey,
you know, are you gonna did you eat lunch it?
And he goes, no, no, he goes, I haven't eaten
anything today. And it's like one o'clock in the afternoon.
I'm like, what are you doing?
Speaker 2 (42:42):
I told you what the new barminter of the gauge
is from productivity at Cosa CALVICI with two teenagers during
the summer when I get home after work. Were you
more productive than Cheeto the dog? For example, yesterday Cheeto
woke up my fifteen year old at twelve thirty because
he was due, so he said, I always get my
treat around noon. What you're still sleeping? And he woke
(43:05):
her up and I said, well, you failed. You failed.
The dog was more productive? Then?
Speaker 4 (43:10):
Wait? Is your daughter not in school yet? Not yet? No?
Speaker 2 (43:12):
Wow, can't come soon enough? Let's yes? Okay, so, oh
my goodness. All right, what else do you want? Here's
my final question? What else do you want to see
between Cardinals camp in the first preseason game? What else
are you're like? Okay, you know what. It'd be nice
to get an answer to that. It'd be nice to
(43:33):
see that player flash here in this situation? Is there
anything else that you'd like to see other than the obvious?
Maybe some of the injured guys return ahead of schedule.
Speaker 6 (43:42):
But if you're on that, if we're not going with
low hanging fruit like the injury stuff, that's that's I
think that's a really good question because I'm not sure
exactly what's going to get answered. I do I'm sure
they're going to have those one on one drills again,
and I do want to see again when we talk
about some of these offensive linemen going again against some
of these veteran defensive linemen and how they hold up.
(44:03):
It was funny. I was talking to some other people
that I can't remember if it was Zach Er or Greed,
but we were talking about Justin Jones going against somebody
down the depth chart with the offensive line, and it's
gonna work out that way because they have so many
players in the defensive line. You have a guy that
was one of your starters last year and probably still
(44:25):
could be one of your starters, and he's gonna go
against a guy who may or may not make this
team because of how deep you are at the defensive line.
I mean, that's great help for the offensive lineman.
Speaker 4 (44:36):
I'm in.
Speaker 6 (44:37):
I'm hoping their defensive linemen are getting the kind of
work they need to, but I'm fascinated to see how
some of these upper depth chart defensive lineman Isaiah Adams
in particular, like continue to hone their skills against these
guys that they built up, and probably the offense in general.
I mean Kyler said, okay, that first pat of practice stunk. Okay,
let's see how good it gets.
Speaker 7 (44:58):
It's hard to not say offensive line cornerbacks with the
opportunity that is there, who is going to step up
and make the most of those reps? You can talk
about wide receivers. Is there going to be a wide
receiver too that's really going to solidify themselves as that
role is. We even talked a lot about Zay Jones.
Speaker 4 (45:12):
I think he's looked good.
Speaker 7 (45:14):
So what kind of role is he carved out? Greg Dortch,
is he going to have a similar role in the
past or is that going to be expanded. There's a
lot of things that it's still early and to Darren's point,
how much are we really going to gather from training camp?
Only a certain amount. There's a handful of things, especially
on the offense.
Speaker 4 (45:30):
I don't think it's locked in yet, but unlike the
last couple of years, I do think there's a chance
they could be padded up for the red and white practice,
where the last couple of years they haven't been on Saturday.
Speaker 6 (45:40):
So that's a big day for the fans. Make sure
you get your tickets. Obviously, Red and White practice on Saturday.
What's the day is that? The second August second, So
make sure you keep so make sure you go to
Ezycardinals dot com and get your tickets.
Speaker 5 (45:53):
They're free.
Speaker 4 (45:53):
They're free, and everything's parking is free. Tickets are free.
Speaker 6 (45:58):
And if they do end up being passed it out
there on Saturday, I mean, it's never going to be
like the old days where you're actually scrimmaging.
Speaker 4 (46:04):
We're way past that.
Speaker 6 (46:06):
But if they're padded up, I mean, it makes for
a little bit more interesting of a practice and it'll
be fun. It'll be a fun day and then we'll
wrap up that first then we're into a game week.
Speaker 2 (46:15):
It's crazy live goal line drill. How long ago was
it Red and White they would do a live goal
line drill? Wasn't that long ago?
Speaker 6 (46:22):
It wasn't as long as I mean, I know Wizna
used to do it. I think Arians might have done
it a couple of times. But like we're long past
the full on scrimmage at the walk up SkyDome and
flag staff.
Speaker 2 (46:33):
By the way, I hope the two of you appreciate
State Farm Stadium. Can we just get a golf clap
for climate control? Did you happen to see back together weekend?
And as they popped around all the camps, including Cardinals camp,
I mean, raiders are outside in Vegas practicing insane heat
in the Midwest, like Kansas City Chiefs heat index is
like one oh five and they're out there practicing in
(46:55):
the middle of the day. East Coast Commander's Camp.
Speaker 7 (46:58):
I mean there's some sends, the colds, all that humidity,
and you know what, I used to be a believer.
Speaker 2 (47:05):
Okay, good, you know, tough, get guys tough, get guys
in shape. Now with a seventeen game regular season, I
really wonder if some of those teams fade. Yeah, Like,
remember it was a good ten to fifteen years ago.
Now remember that camp. Mike's singletary ran with the forty
nine ers and it was like medieval and they came
out and they started like eight and two and then
(47:26):
they went two and six down the street. I mean
they faded hard.
Speaker 6 (47:30):
Before the bubble at the Cardinals facility. That used to
be an argument about the Cardinals is one of the
reasons they struggled. Would be because of all the heat
practices they had to do early in the season.
Speaker 7 (47:41):
I'm on the schedule in front of me. How many
games do the Cardinals even play outdoors? Cincinnati Tampa Bay?
Speaker 2 (47:48):
You know what, that's a great observation of buddy of mine, and.
Speaker 5 (47:50):
I went Caroline is here.
Speaker 7 (47:52):
Those might be the only two even open stadium games
they play in.
Speaker 2 (47:57):
See if they can find it right away. A buddy
of mine sent me as stat and I can't find it,
but the Cardinals have the most indoor games of any
team in the NFL this year. It's either thirteen or
fourteen indoor games.
Speaker 4 (48:09):
That's crazy.
Speaker 5 (48:10):
And and again, oh Seattle.
Speaker 4 (48:13):
Seattle'll be outdoors, that's true. Yeah, it's forty nine ers
as well, So I mean you have a few, but still.
Speaker 5 (48:18):
Probably thirteen indoors. I guess the math.
Speaker 6 (48:20):
Look the way they're talking about building new stadiums these days,
a dome is on the table every single city they
talk about, every single one.
Speaker 2 (48:30):
And U sideline reporters salute that. And we'll leave you
with that, also with a shout out Jimal Mahundra with
a final note over there is that what you're gonna
throw out there?
Speaker 6 (48:41):
AQ Shipley, as we mentioned earlier, is now the the
Ron Wolfully replacement on the radio broadcast and joining you, Paul.
Speaker 2 (48:50):
Well, that was gonna be my segue there. You know,
as long as AQ, you know, respects the sideline reports.
You know, that's a we have to I have to
have a long conversation with AQ.
Speaker 5 (48:58):
Sure I love that.
Speaker 2 (48:59):
Yeah, it's uh but no, it's and we mentioned a
little earlier, but I can't reiterate enough. I mean the
combination of what I call infotainment, information and entertainment, because
why do people come to sports, Why do people come
to football as an escape? It's entertainment. Okay, it can't
be all a math lecture, it can't be all analytics.
I mean, there has to be the anecdotal. There has
(49:20):
to be the concrete content and the analysis. I get it.
But the very best in that role combine all the above.
That's why Wolf, in my opinion, was elite, because I
mean he sounded like football. In fact. Now I don't know,
I mean he might get now that he's eligible a
free agent. Maybe the WW is gonna recruit Wolf, you know,
that's his calling, or the guy with the wrestler voice.
(49:42):
Maybe he needs to go announce some of the rest.
Speaker 6 (49:43):
Now, if we just hired a guy a Q Shipley
who's already tied with the wrestling dude, Pat McAfee, so
Wolf doesn't, we can only have one of them hovering around. Yeah,
I have noticed Wolf's been around the practice. I mean,
I know he's doing Arizona Sports, but it's it's it's
just it's an interesting time.
Speaker 4 (50:00):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (50:00):
And and obviously AQ is gonna have a different style
than the Wolf did, but uh, we've got we've got
a good crew and hopefully you and passion won't ruin him.
Speaker 2 (50:10):
And you know what we're gonna obviously we're gonna see
AQ on uh on a lot of these platforms and
talking to him real soon, like real soon, like starting
probably red and White. You're gonna start hearing from Aq
quite a bit. Not that he hasn't received already enough
publicity via the McAfee show and getting retweets by Adam
Schefter and so forth.
Speaker 4 (50:28):
So, yeah, the same thing happened when you got hired Paul.
Speaker 2 (50:31):
Hey robust start for a Q Shipley. As we disregard that, yeah,
you know we started, uh we end right where we started.
You know, you're truly taken. Strays Cardinals Underground brought to
