Speaker 1 (00:00):
Everyone. Mitchelt's Voice of the Chiefs. Here a reminder that
our Fantasy Draft podcast is presented by bud Light, the
official beer of the Chiefs Kingdom. Now we're on the clock.
The Kansas City Chiefs are now on the clock. The
Kansas City Chiefs first round selection with a fifteen selection
(00:21):
pig with a sixty third kick. The Kansas City Chiefs
have selected. All right, it's time. You wanted it, you
got it. Episode four of our Chiefs Fantasy Draft. Mitchelt
is with you, Voice of the Chiefs. Are a my
bread beach too? Am I moving? And my trading? Am
I going up down? What am I doing getting extra picks?
I've already made a blockbuster trade in episode three. If
(00:41):
you didn't see it, go back and watch it along
with Matt McMullan, Chiefs reporter. So this has been kind
of fun so far after three episodes, Yeah, Mat, sure has.
We've gone through a lot so far. I've gone through
pretty much the entire offense. So first episode we did quarterback, punter, kicker,
special teams obviously, but the head coach. Then we did
our skill guys on offense, and episode number two back
wide receiver and tight end. Then in episode three we
(01:02):
did our entire offensive line. So I'll run through my
team role here really quickly. Then you can run through years.
At quarterback, I have Patrick Mahomes backing him up is
Lynn Dawson. That's pretty good. My punter is Dustin Colquit,
kicker is Jon Stinnerude, My head coach is Hank Stram.
My three running backs Jamal Charles, Christian Koya, and Marcus Allen.
Pretty good. My wide receivers Tyreek Hill at, Carlos Carson
and Dwayne Bow tight end at Tony Gonzalez, Jason Dunn
(01:25):
and blocking for all those guys. At offensive tackle, I
have John Alt and John Tate. My offensive guards are
Will Shields and Brian Waters. And then my center is EJ.
Hollid with Casey Wigman backing him up. My head coach
Andy Reid big Red. I've worked with Andy, you know
for so many years. It's great. Hall of Fame going
to can't know how I gotta can't know how to
see him just saying. Joe Montana at quarterback, Alex Smith
(01:47):
backing him up. My place kickers Harrison Butker, Jerald Wilson.
Thunderfoot is my punter. Then you look at episode two,
rocked it crushed, It crushed it. With this group, Travis
Kelsey's a tight end along with Fred arbanis one it
will be in the Hall of Fame. The other one
should be Otis Taylor. This is my should be Hall
of Fame team. Otis Taylor's at wide receiver. But here's
where Coach Reid wants me to find people who can
(02:08):
do different things. Listen to this group. Abner Haynes, Priest Holmes,
Joe Delaney, Chris Burford, Dante Hall. They'll put it letter
by them. Don't put a letter by on. You're just
pigeonholing them. Although I got people moving around, I got
defensive coordinators losing sleep, and then my offensive line got
a block. For all those guys. Here we go Willie
Rove Pro Football Hall of Fame left tackle, right, Teckle
(02:29):
Dave Hill of Super Bowl one in four of Fame.
My guard's ed buddy, same Super Bowl four. Jack Rudyeat
at center was on that team as well. And then
Mo Mormon made the block the trap block on sixty
five toss part trap. Tim Grennard as my backup center,
just to keep it lively in the OL line room.
So there we go. It leads us up to episode four. Yeah,
and episode four it's all about defense. So we're doing
(02:51):
the second and third level of the defense in this one,
so corner, safety and linebacker will do two corners, two safeties,
and three linebackers. And what we need the preface here
is we've been kind of alternating who has the first
overall pick. I had the first overall pick in the
first episode. You had a number two in episode three,
our last episode, you trade it up for the first
overall pick. Now in episode four, some of those things
(03:11):
that you traded, he's on the phone. I'll tell you, guys,
some of the things that he's traded are coming to
roost here. So he has the first overall pick in
episode four. But then I have the second pick, the
third pick, and the fourth pick. So we'll see how
this works out for for Brett Feach number two aka
Mitch Holt this in this one. But yeah, so you'd
the first overall pick, then it's all me for three picks. Yeah,
I don't know what that was. I was I was
going trying to make a trade and make and move
(03:33):
and shaken it. But it was Rob wriggle right, So
I don't know if you heard it, like he was
awesome and stepbrothers pow, you know, not up in here
light mixer. There we go. But I get the number
one pick of episode four, right, and then I go
down the line and I get the picks five, seven,
and nine, and then whatever's left over. Trying to figure
(03:53):
out now, my fans who loved the trade in episode three,
we're going, wait a minute, where's our picks in episode four?
That's the way it works, man. Yeah, but I'm gonna
start with my very first pick of episode four, and honestly,
I think he might be other than Patrick Mahomes, the
greatest player in the history of the Kansas City Chiefs
and the greatest defensive player of the Kansas City Chiefs.
(04:14):
Because Bobby Bell is way ahead of his time, he
is my number one pick. I can do a lot
of things with Bobby. Plus he's my long snapper. When
you look at what Bobby Bobby Bell was so explosive
he could still play today. Six Pick six is two
scoop and scores on sitekick in return for a touchdown,
fifteen fumble recoveries, so and I can move. So we
(04:35):
all look for these hybrid linebackers. Now, I'm looking for
him now, twenty twenty one draft. Right's what we're looking for. Right.
I'm love Willie Grady Junior. We like what we did
last year. Bobby Bell. Bobby Bell hybrid linebacker, way ahead
of his time. So if there was a Chiefs themed
dictionary next to the word legend, you would see Bobby
Bell there. Yeah, but you would also see Derek Thomas there. Yeah.
(04:55):
And with the second overall pick, the first of three
straight picks, I have an episode of for I'm picking
up Derek Thomas. And Derrek Thomas is, without a doubt,
one of the greatest pass rushers, if not the greatest
pass rusher of all time. And you think about his
career one hundred and twenty six and a half sacks,
it's a franchise record. He had over seven hundred sack
yards and think about that. It's absolutely incredible. He was
(05:18):
just the absolute definition of a competitor of a pass rusher.
And he's kind of if I have Patrick Mahomes on
one side, you're telling me I have Derek Thomas on
the other side. I'm feeling pretty good about this. So
Derrek Thomas. I'm gonna pizel him in. Here is my
first pick, but now I have two more in a row.
What do I do? Now? Do I add to my
linebacker Cord? Do I go defensive tackle? Do I go corner?
While you're on the phone over here, you know, I'm
(05:40):
gonna go with another Pro Football Hall of Famer at
three overall, Willy Lanier in the middle of my defense.
Twenty seven interceptions so he could cover as a middle linebacker,
eighteen fumble recoveries, tremendous and coverage, as I mentioned, had
an interception in the Super Bowl, and he played in
every Pro Bowl from nineteen sixty eight to nineteen seventy five.
The guy was incredib and this is the pick you
(06:00):
got in the trade, right exactly. So this is the
one they'll they'll look through all the years ago there.
That's the trade. Yeah. So I was excuse, what's two
Hall of famers? Though? I mean, it's Willy Rolf. It's
Willy Lanier to Willie's. It's kind of interesting. It's win win, man,
It's what we're talking about. We're talking win win, win win.
It works out winning for everybody, chiefs Kingdom winning. So
Now I have Willy Lanier and Derek Thomas in my
linebacker cor I'm gonna address another area. So now with
(06:23):
my fourth overall pick, what am I going to do?
Do I add to my linebacker corps get three straight
picks in, you get three straight picks? Yeah, I know,
are gonna go safety. I was starting to make a deal.
There was a Delaware Alumni association and they won the donation.
Everybody's calling. What it's like, doctor, call down? I've we're
in the draft. I mean, you're busy right now. I
haven't slept for since oh twenty twenty twenty, It's been
February least a year. Yeah. Um, but okay, so what
(06:44):
do I do here? I can't go back to linebacker.
I'm already rich there. I feel like, let's go corner.
Let's go with Emmett Thomas at cornerback. Another Pro Football
Hall of Famer as both a coach trade and a player.
Twelve interceptions in nineteen seventy four with two touchdowns that year.
That was frankly ridiculous. In fifty eight interceptions in his
career from nineteen sixty six to nineteen seventy eight, that's
a Chiefs record, incredible coach as well. I mentioned he
(07:06):
was in the Hall of Fame as a coach. Emmett
Thomas is the first corner off the board here, and
my fans have been on me. They've been all over
social media because like, when are we gonna pick again? Hey,
go back and look at the Willie Rove trade, right,
you got to remember it all, put it all in context.
But I need a corner. You took Emma Thomas best
corner in the history of this franchise, But I'm gonna
take the second best corner in the history of the
franchise because Albert Lewis was a man he could shut
(07:28):
down a half of the field, Ring of Honor, head
of his time, long lean just like Emmett, physical but
very skilled. So I'm gonna take Albert Thomas old number
twenty nine. It's gonna be my fifth pick of episode four.
A is a my number one corner. Yeah, I like
that a lot. I was doing some research on Albert
Lewis and did you know Jerry Rice said that he
(07:49):
was one of the toughest corners he ever faced. You're
selling it to my fans. Tell my fans, that's what
I'm saying it's true. Put it out there. It's a
fact that Albert Lewis was the man. He was the man,
way underrated when get into some of these names here too,
But Albert Lewis was part of a secondary in that
era of Chiefs football that's maybe one of the most
underrated secondaries of all time. We talked about the Legion
of Boom a few years ago that it was a
legion of boom in the early nineties. I'm late eighties
(08:11):
in Kansas City with some of these guys, pretty impressive.
I'm not gonna go with that group for this pick, though,
I'm going to go with let's go with Johnny Robinson.
That's safety who finally made the Pro Football Hall of
Fame a couple of years ago. So I'm just going
in Hall of famers. I'll done the list here. So
he played for the Texans slash Chiefs from nineteen sixty
to seventy one. Eight or more interceptions three times in
(08:34):
his career, including two seasons with ten or more interceptions,
which is just crazy. And the thing with him is
you love versatility, right, Johnny Robinson could play offense too,
no problem. He had one year it was in nineteen
sixty he had over a thousand yards from scrimmage. So
if in a pench, if some of my offensive guys
can't go, I got Johnny Robinson. He's like, I can
play running back, wide receiver, no problem. So Johnny Robinson
(08:55):
at safety, but if he has to do other stuff,
I can put him in there. Johnny Robinson at safety
is my pick. Yes, they're awesome pick. Man, I'm taking
another call though we're working at It's Rudd. Oh, it's Rudd. Yeah, Aunt, man,
what are we doing? Talk to me? You were a
great man. You're awesome anchor man. All right, he says,
we're gonna go with Kevin Ross with the Rock. The
Rock you talk about all that great secondary, right, all
(09:17):
those dudes at all the same time. I got two
of him. Man, it's my corners, Albert Lewis and the
Rock Kevin Ross, both in the Chiefs Ring of Honors.
So we're going with the Rock with my seventh pick
of episode four. So I'm setting with the best backer
ever in Chief's history arguably, and then Albert Lewis Kevin Ross. Okay,
I like that a lot. I'm in a spot now
(09:38):
where I can go linebacker I can go safety, I
can go corner. What should I do. I'm gonna go linebacker.
I'm gonna go Jim Lynch at linebacker. He's another member
of the Super Bowl four linebacker corps that included Bobby
Bell and Willy Lanier. And he can play inside or outside,
which I like. He plays some inside then on that
Super Bowl four him. I believe he is an outside linebackers.
He can play some outside with Willy Lanier in the
(10:00):
middle of this group. Seventeen career interceptions across one hundred
and forty two starts. Just a solid, solid player, Jim
Lynch rounding out my linebacker corps. Hey, this is where
I mean. This is when you get Kayper gone. There's
our round right now on linebackers. I'm looking at my
linebacker on my big board. You know I've been moving.
I like what I'm doing. But I can go find linebackers.
Already talked about Willie Gate Jr. We you know we
talked here, we go, you know, find the Derek Johnson
(10:24):
is still on the board. I'm taking Derek Johnson, the
all time leading tackler in Kanas City Chiefs history. Again.
He can play that hybrid role. He can cover, he
can hit, He's got that whole block tackle thing down. Shoot,
I'm going Derek Johnson because you got me in a
position where you're just pulling these linebackers off the board.
I better grab one. So I'm gonna take DJ Derrek Johnson,
one of my all time favorite players in Chief's history. Yeah,
(10:44):
that's a great pick, love DJ. I feel like I'm
in a situation now where I have to go corner.
Looking at this corner board, I'm gonna go Dale Carter
at corner. Seven seasons with Kansas City from nineteen ninety
two to nineteen ninety eight, twenty one picks in that span,
nine fumble recoveries and fensive Rookie of the Year nineteen
ninety two, Dale Carter opposite in Adamis on my defense,
I got my two corners. I'm set with Lewis and Ross.
(11:07):
I got two linebackers in Bobby Bell and Derek Johnson.
Try to get something done against that crew. Just saying,
but I'm also gonna I haven't chosen a safety yet,
and I'm looking on this line of safeties, and this
is where it's gonna get really, really tense, because I
could pick a whole bunch of them here. But I
might need a leader of this group, and you're either
(11:28):
going back in time, but he's already in the ring
of honor. You know. I'm bread Veach too, right. I
like to find those diamonds in the roff. I'm gonna
take an undrafted guy that was a punter at Rutgers
in dron Cherry and put him as the leader of
my back end in my defense. And he's there with
Albert Lewis and Kevin Ross. I'm telling you, Matt, the
band is back together. So dron Cherry is my first safety.
(11:51):
Chosen new dron Cherry had seven or more interceptions in
five different seasons. I mean, just absolutely crazy. Imagine him
in today's game where the balls being thrown so much,
his numbers will be absolutely out of this world. Okay,
so I only have one spot left. I need a safety.
You have a few spots left, So after I picked
this one, you'll fill out the rest of your rosters
like supplemental picks or what do we got? Essentially, yeah,
I mean you can't. You have to feel the team.
(12:12):
So luckily there's still lots of guys out there. But
I need a safety. What am I gonna do here.
I can go, I can go Lloyd Burst if I
want to go back in time to that same group,
or I think I know what I'll do. I'll go
Tyron Matthew because you mentioned a leader of men. That's
what Tyron Matthew is. And you have a great defensive
group here on my team with Emma Thomas Dale, Carter,
(12:34):
Johnny Robinson, DT, Bully Lanier and Jim Lynch. But if
you get a guy like Tyron Matthew to bring it
all together, to be the leader of this group, I
feel like their potential would fully be unleashed. And he's
a good player on the field, obviously, seven interceptions last year,
All Pro. But he's also a leader of men, one
of the best leaders of men I've ever seen. Tyron
Matthew rounds at my group. Good picks, I get to
(12:56):
last two, I gotta check with Burkholder here and get
a medical in on some of these guys. Yeah, get
it all right, all right, all right, all right, good,
that's what we're gonna do. So I got a pick,
I got a safety left, and I got a linebacker left.
So I'm going with the well I can pick either way.
I got the next two picks. So this is tough
because I can go Eric Barry here, I can go
(13:16):
Lloyd Burus. But I got that whole band back together
with Kevin Ross, to Ron Cherry and Albert Lewis. Why
would I not go Lloyd Burris and put that whole
crew back together, gonna and terrify everybody in my division?
How did you get all of them? I got them all.
I got them all the no fly zone before there
was a no fly zone. Go find the poster of
like the nineteen eighty three Chiefs or whatever. They're all
(13:36):
standing there like nobody's flying over us. So I'm going
Lloyd Burus, my pins flying up. I got, I got
stuff going on. It's crazy. So I got one more
linebacker to fill. This is where it gets tough too.
But I need I need a ring of honor guy.
I need a guy in the middle to kind of
because I got speed guys on the outside, right, I
got Bobby Bell, I got Derek Johnson, so I'm kind
of got I can flip flop those guys. I'm gonna
(13:56):
go with Ring of honor guy, Gary Spainey. Gary Spainey,
just put him in the middle. Of the mic. Now, Gary,
just make a be a tackle machine and you so
go for it. Plus k staters, I'll love the pick.
But Gary Spainey rounds out in my group and episode
four and so there we go. So what' you get
done with your linebackers, corners and safeties. Yeah, so my
corners are Emmett Thomas and Dale Carter. My safety's Johnny Robinson,
(14:18):
Tyrene Matthew and my linebackers Woolly Lanier, Jim Lynch and
Derek Thomas. I looked at Donnie Edwards at that last
linebacker spot, but I needed a mic, and you took.
You took the mic, Mike of all Mike's and wheel
little near. So I got Gary Spinney at my mic.
But here we go. I got Bobby Bell on the
outside along with Derek Johnson. I got Spaine in the
middle at the mic, but I got I brought back
(14:40):
all those guys. Yeah, I love it. Albert Lewis, Kevin Ross,
Ron Cherry, Lloyd Buris. You didn't think you'd ever see
him all together again. You've got him now, everybody, So
chiefs Kingdom love it. As episode four is done, We've
been doing deals. We've been talking to actors and actresses.
We got, I got the Delaware Alumni Association calling me
for money and people doing deals. That means the deals
can because you know what we do, Matt. Everybody turns
(15:02):
out of the draft on the last day, right, they
go golf or ghosts, Paris sailing or whatever. That's when
the money happens. We love to get those later rounds. Yep.
One more round here and it's defensive tackle one. Defensive end.
Football is won in the trenches, and we're gonna see
who's gonna win between our two teams. Really in this
final week. Remember what we did last year. Every thought
we were done. Seventh pick, right, every's done. You and
(15:25):
I shut down, packing it up? What what? What little
pete keys? Seventh rounds? What we do? So hey, here
it comes, Episode five. Don't miss it.
