Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi everyone. Mitch Holters here, Voice of the Chiefs. A
reminder that our Fantasy Draft podcast is presented by bud Light,
the official beer of the Chiefs Kingdom. Now it's time
for your draft day draft. The Kansas City Chiefs are
now on the clock. The Kansas City Chiefs first round
selection with a fifty and selection with the sixty third pick.
(00:24):
The Kansas City Chiefs have selected. Welcome to our fifth
and final episode of Chiefs Fantasy Draft. Mitch Holters with
your Voice of the Chiefs around my bread beach too.
I've been in the last three episodes. Before that, I
was sunny. We were junior from Draft Day along with
Matt Stadd himself Matt mc roland, Chiefs reporter. This has
(00:44):
been fun and our fifth episode. But your team's put together,
and I'll give you my team yeah after this. Plus
you know, hey, you know me, I like to make deals,
I like to move and shake. I don't sleep. I
think of these things while I'm in some other state.
But yeah, let's go. Yeah, this has been a lot
of fun, and we'll peel behind the curtain here. We
really went into this with a general concept of how
this would go, and we're just kind of running with
(01:05):
it and seeing how it goes. And this has been
an absolute blast wrapping up with defensive tackle and defensive
end here in this one. So I'll run through my
whole team really quickly. Episode one we did quarterback, punter, kicker,
and head coach. So I have Patrick Mahomes as my quarterback.
I got him, Lynn Dawson as my backup. Dustin Colquit's
my punter, Johnston A. Rude is my kicker, and Hank
Stram is my head coach. Episode two it was the
(01:26):
offensive skill guys, so I got Jamal Charles at running back,
Christian Nakoyer running back, and Marcus Allen at running back.
My running back room is pretty incredible. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill,
Carlos Carson, my two burners. Dwayne bow is my big
bodied receiver, and then tight end I got Tony Gonzalez
and Jason Dunn. Episode three was offensive tackle, offensive guard,
and center. I got John Alt and John Tate did
(01:49):
offensive tackle, Will Shields and Brian Waters at guard and
then center I got EJ. Hollob and Casey Wigman. And
then episode four we went to the defensive side of
the ball. At corner, I got Emmett Thomas and Dale Carter,
safety Johnny Robinson and Tyron Matthew and linebacker. I got
Willy Lennier in the middle, Jim Lynch and Derek Thomas.
Fee pretty good about my team. Yeah, you got a
nice team. But listen to this, Okay. My head coach
(02:11):
is Andy Reid. It's like the campon Ohio All Stars here.
My quarterback is Joe Montana, four time Super Bowl champion
Harrison Butker's my place kicker. Watch him win the next
Super Bowl for us with a fifty four yard right hash,
Not that I've been thinking about it. Jerald Wilson Thunderfoot's
my punter. Alex Smith is my backup quarterback to Joe Montana.
Episode two, Travis Kelsey to completely wreck everybody else's defense.
(02:36):
Otis Taylor. That wide receiver should be in the Pro
Football Hall of Fame. Abner Haynes, look him up. One
of the more underrated players in the history of pro football.
Could do it all. I got a runner, I got
a receiver, I got a returner. Priest Holmes, we know
what he did, just amassing all those yards In early
two thousands. Fred arbanis hero Super Bowl four end one
great tight end Joe Delaney. If if Joe Delaney would
(03:00):
have had more years on this earth, he would have
been unbelievable. Chris Burford underratted wide receiver fourteen a half
yards to catch Dante Hall, the human joystick returner and receiver.
Episode three. My offensive line coach Reid wants the trenches.
We gave him the trenches. Pro Football Hall of Famer
or left tackle Willie rof At right tackle, super Bowl
four hero Dave Hill, Jack Rudney as my center to
(03:23):
anchor that ed buddy super Bowl four guard. And then
Moe Mormon who made the trap block on sixty five
TPT that's what he's got. And then Tim grunhard back
and those guys up. Episode four. You mentioned we went defense.
Bobby Bell, Maybe here we go, I mean, incredible player,
maybe the best defensive player of all time in Chiefs history.
(03:44):
I know, I know, bat Here's where're gonna get excited.
If you were like an eighties Chiefs fan, the no
fly zone early nineties that coach Schottenhamer took over, Albert Lewis,
Kevin Ross, Tern, Cherry, Lloyd Burris all on my team,
how did you get them all I still done. Now,
it's me man, Bret Beach. It's well, it's what I do.
I move by shake, I don't you know, I stay,
I go, I am here, I'm there, and so Derrek
(04:06):
Johnson's my linebacker along with Bobby Bell and then Gary
Spening in the middle. I needed a mic that leads
just episode five, where now we go to the defensive trenches.
Coach Read talks about that again. But you've got the
first pick in this right, sure, it is that what
you got? Yeah? First overall? Yeah. Yeah, you know, I've
had Wriggle calling, I've had some others calling, but uh,
you know, hey, we got I'm getting a call here. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
(04:28):
it's it's it's it's Brett Beach too. Hold on, okay,
hey Brett, Hey man, what's going on. How's Allie doing good?
Doing great? It's a little bit busy right now. Yeah,
I know, I say I'm busy too. It's got episode five. Yeah,
Allison's doing good. We've got the kids. We're doing great.
But we're in the middle of this draft episode five. Hey,
I was seeing what you wanted for that number one pick.
I'd like to have the number one pick in episode five.
Just just want to go there and see what you're thinking.
(04:48):
How's Ellie doing? How's things good? You're good? Listen man, Brett. Yeah,
we're doing this. Man, are we doing this? Are we
doing this? What do we got? Brett? You got me
a few weeks ago getting the first overall pick and
what was it episode three? It's not happening today. It's history.
It's like they change in history. It's the Mesopotamians. Hey,
so what are we doing here? Hey? My guy? No
matter what, I'm not trading out of this pick. Yes,
(05:11):
some people just don't listen. All right, all right, here
we go Episode five, pick one. Well, and the reason
I'm not trading out of this pick is because with
the first overall pick in episode five, I am taking
Buck Buchanan. I can't trade him to you. I'm getting
Buck Buchanan on my defensive line. He's gonna anchor my
defensive line. Thirteen seasons with the Chiefs from nineteen sixty
three to nineteen seventy five, one hundred and seventy two
(05:32):
starts six foot seven, two hundred and seventy pounds with
incredible speed. He just don't find guys like that. Just
a monster in the middle of this defense that cannot
be contained. He broke up sixteen passes along the line
of scrimmage in nineteen sixty seven. You couldn't throw the
ball against this guy because he get his big hands
up and knocked the ball down. He's incredible. He's a
pass rusher, batstown passes. He does it all. Buck Buchanan,
(05:53):
Pro Football Hall of Famer, is my first pick. Bobby
Bill might have been the most underrated pick of all
time in the seventh round keeping track there's only EIGHTFL
teams at the time, but maybe the most underrated number
one pick of all time. Buck Buchanan, you've done well.
That's why I wanted to make the trade, but right
couldn't get it done. I couldn't make the trade happen.
Here's what it is, and now you've got me in
(06:14):
a little bit of a pickle. It's also want to
make the trade because this is around a very rich
round where you have him the one, three, five. Makes
it tough on me because now you've got me in
a little bit of a situation where I've got to
move and shake. But I can't let Chris Jones get
off the board. I wanted Chris Jones. Remember, we traded
down to get him. We've got him. But when I
look at this guy, he will be in the Ring
(06:35):
of Honor someday. And if you know, I'm looking at
what he was able to do with his fifteen a
half sex and twenty eighteen. But all you get it
to go watch Super Bowl fifty four. Four straight stops, knockdown, knockdown, knockdown,
three knockdowns there, Chris Jones. I've taken him with my
first pick, first picking, episode five, the second pick overall. Yeah,
you talk about those knockdowns. I was mentioning Buck Buchanan
(06:57):
with the knockdowns. But yeah, Chris Jones, super Bowl fifty four,
I don't know what happened, Seriously, Chris Jones. Buck Buchanan
was Chris Jones before. Yah. Yeah, I was gonna mention
that because you think about Super Bowl fifty four. We
talk about WASP, we talk about all these different offensive
plays in Super Bowl fifty four, but think about the
three final defensive stands for this defense. I mean, if
the Niners go down and score, it's a totally different game.
(07:18):
I still have faith in the Chiefs offense. We would
have won that football game, but the defense stopped him
every single time, and Chris Jones was a huge part
of that. So that's a great pick. Can't fault you
for that one. For my pick, I'm gonna go along
the edge. I'm gonna go with Jared Allen, a defensive end.
So Jared Allen, he didn't have a long career with
the Chiefs. It was only four seasons, but it was
prolific from two thousand and four to two thousand and seven,
(07:40):
thirty nine quarterback hits, forty three sacks, and fifty six
tackles for loss. He led the NFL and sacks in
two thousand and seven with fifteen and a half. Now,
the Chiefs traded Jared Allen, but he was the gift
that keeps on giving because you think about the picks
that they got for Jared Allen. I believe it was
Brandon Albert and Jamal Charles. Those are the picks the
Chiefs got for Jared Allen. So it was a bum
trading him away. But when you trade away players like that,
(08:02):
you hope he can get picks that can turn into
great players. And it worked out pretty well for the
Chiefs getting Jared Allen. So that's my edge rusher there.
As you're getting a call here, I'm gonna go to
Jared Allen at defensive end. I liked it, but I
know that, Hey, it's it's coach on this one. Who's
on this one? This is Keckner on this one. Keckner,
I can't talk to you right now. I got coach
on all right? Who put this phone in my bag?
All right? Team Mobile, I think, so you've left the
(08:26):
door open for me because I just called coach. Because
the door is open for us. Because the number one,
the next guy on the board right there is Neil Smith.
I'm gonna take him a defensive end with the eighty
five and a half sacks. Remember he was the book
in for Derek Thomas. But great guy to match up
with Chris Jones on my defensive front. So I'm going
Neil Smith defensive end because he uh, you know, he's
(08:51):
a he's a bigger. He could hold the edge, but man,
he could get after the quarterback Nebraska cornerusker fans, I
know you love me right now because we took him.
But I like Neil Smith. Chris Jones bang bang bang bang.
In episode five? Can you imagine that defensive front Neil
Jones and Chris Jones or Neil Smith and Chris Jones.
Now I'm in kind of a predicament here, because do
I go Curly Cop or do I go a little
(09:14):
bit outside the box and go don Terry Poe Because
Don Terry Pope can play offense too, right, you can
put him along the goal line than to make to trade.
You didn't want to make the tree, you can throw
the football. You know I'm gonna I think I'm overthinking it, though,
I'm gonna stick to Curly Coop along the defensive line.
Parts of Seven Seasons was the chief parts of seven
seasons with the Chiefs from nineteen sixty eight to nineteen
seventy four. Seventy starts in that span, Pro Football Hall
(09:35):
of Famer and a big part of the Chiefs defense
and Super Bowl for give me Curly Cole my pick
Pro Football Hall of Famer, but I'm gonna stay at
the defensive tackle spot because the next DT on the
board is a guy that won a lot of games
as a Kansas City chief again part of that incredible defense.
Not one of the Pro Football Hall of Famers of
the eleven there are six, but not far away because
(09:56):
Jerry Mays is gonna be my defensive tackle to be
lined up with Chris Jones. To me, there's a little
bit of ying and yang with those guys. I think
they're going to compliment each other very well. So put
Jerry May's famous for like that photo that you see
in front of Municipal Stadium, big motor, good guy. So
we're going Jerry May's defensive tackle. Okay, okay, I like it.
(10:16):
So I believe we each have one more pick left, right,
we do, so I need to fill out my defensive
end spot. I have Jared Allen on one side trying
to think what to do here. You know, I'll go
Art Still, Art Still at defensive end, number two overall
pick in the nineteen seventy eight draft, ten years with
the Chiefs from nineteen seventy eight to eighty seven, huge dude,
six foot seven, two hundred and fifty three pounds, seventy
(10:39):
three career sacks that ranks fifth in Chief's history. Art
Still going to fill out my team? You know how
I do? I try to make it happen in the
late rounds. Everybody gives up on these late rounds and
they go golf for you know, mow the lawn or something. Hey,
we still work. Everybody thought you thought we were done
last year in the round seven, right, you thought you
were done. You and Holts went walking boom bull peak keys.
(10:59):
But let's think about Rashad Fenton in the sixth round.
Talk about all the Super Bowl starts. Who made the
first stops in Super Bowl fifty four? Who made the
first stop on third down to start all those stops?
That makes sense, Yeah, Rashad Finton, sixth round. Think about
what we've done there, right, So we've made some money
in these late rounds picking great guys. So the last
pick overall of this five episode Chiefs Fantasy Draft, you
(11:23):
took Art still off the board. So my next best
defensive end is Tomahali shown to be in the Ring
of honor. Ninety sacks eighty five and a half rounded
up ninety sacks him on one side and Neil Smith
on the other. I like it with Chris Jones and
Jerry Mayson in the middle. So like my group, and
(11:44):
here we go. Let's play ball. Let's play ball. So
let's go over our teams here. This has been a
lot of fun, Mitch, Like I said at the beginning.
We really didn't know how this was gonna go when
we started this journey four episodes ago, but now we
have our squads and also run through it. So my offense,
my starting offense Pahomes at quarterback, Lynn Dawson backing him up.
My running backs are Jamal Charles. The way he picked
(12:05):
first on that go back and watch it. I didn't
get I didn't pass. He didn't pick Joe Montana over
Patrick Mahomes. No I would neither. My running backs are
Jamal Charles, Christian Acquoyer, and Marcus Allen. My three receivers,
Tyreek Kill, Carlos Carson, Dwayne bow Tony Gonzalez and Jason
Dunn are my tight ends. I have John Alt and
John Tate as the book ends of my offensive line,
(12:25):
Will Shields, Brian Waters and EJ. Hollob. He's my center.
That's my interior offensive line, with Casey Wigman backing those
guys up. My defense, I have Emmett Thomas and Dale
Carter at corner, Johnny Robinson Tyrn Matthew at safety. Then
my linebackers are Jim Lynch, Willie Lanier, and Derek Thomas.
And my defensive tackles Buck Buchanan, Curly Colp to Pro
(12:45):
Football Hall of Famers. My defensive ends are Jared Allen
and Art Still. Dustin Colquitt is my punter, and Johnston
and Rude is my kicker. I feel great. You should
feel great. That's a pretty defense that you've got there
all the way through. So my head coach is Andy Reid. Okay,
so just let's just start from there. That's the pebble
in the pond like it was in real life when
he took this job in January of twenty thirteen, like
(13:07):
the first hours of twenty thirteen. All right. My quarterback
is Joe Montana, backed up by Alex Smith. But I
remember how coach loves to have guys that he can
move around, right, It's like bishops and rooks and chests.
They can do so many different things. And my skill
guys include Abner Haynes, look him up, look him up,
Joe Delaney. But I got a power runner in Priest Holmes.
(13:29):
Travis Kelsey is my tight end along with Fred Arbanis.
My wide receivers otis Taylor, Chris Burford and Dante Hall.
My offensive line is stellar. I got Pro Football Hall
of Famers like Willie Rof at left tackle champions like
Ed Buddy at guard. My center is Jack Rudney at center,
backed up by Tim Grunhard. Moe Mormon is the guy
(13:51):
that made sixty five toss power trap trap Block. I
have to send anything more in that Dave Hill Super
Bowl four champion at tackle there. And then on the
defensive side, my backers are Derek Johnson, Bobby Bell, Gary
Spainey in the middle. My defensive line just picked him
across the board. Defensive end Neil Smith and Tom Mohali,
and then my defensive lineman or Chris Jones and Jerry Mays.
(14:12):
And for the secondary, go find that Chiefs poster from
like the eighties or early nineties, because the No Fly
guys are all back together again. Albert Lewis, Lloyd Burris, Deron, Cherry,
Kevin Ross all on my team. My punter, Gerald Wilson, Thunderfoot,
my place kicker Harrison Butker, who will someday be on
the Ring of honor. And there we go. Matt, this
(14:34):
has been fun. Yeah, this has been a lot of fun.
I'm just thinking of matchups now in my head. So
you have Joe Montana looking for Travis Kelsey. Kelsey's being
guarded by who do we think here, Johnny Robinson, maybe
Tyron Matthew covering Travis Kelsey Wall Neil Smith is getting
after yeah, Patrick Mahomes. Yeah, you know, I can just
(14:54):
imagine these things. It would be a lot of fun
to watch it all play out. We gotta get to
EA and talk to them and make this is a
reality and see how this game would play out, because
I mean, we could talk about this for hours, and
these our two best gamers. Ty Reek's gonna be there,
Chris Jones, probably him against Chris Jones. Yeah, Tyreek's gonna
have to take your team because he's on your team.
Chris Jones is on my team. Who wants to see it? Right? Yeah?
(15:15):
The other thing is we close out Matt. It's been fun,
it's been great. Now we get ready for the real draft.
The key to having successful drafts is you can't get
enough phones. Okay, even if you get this little guy,
so there you go. That's the key. Brett Veach has
got phones, he's got them all working. But get ready
for the twenty twenty one draft. Can't wait, Yeah, I
can't wait. And I think what this whole extras hasn't
shown us is I think in twenty years right now,
(15:38):
we're looking back on these teams in the sixties, right
and saying how great there were, all these Pro Football
Hall of famers. I have a feeling we're going to
look back on the twenty eighteen, nineteen, twenty twenty one
Chiefs and go, wow, there's a lot of Hall of
famers on that team. You got it. So here we go,
Chiefs Kingdom. Get ready for the real draft. We've had
fun with the fantasy draft. I
