Speaker 1 (00:14):
Coming to you live from the Cross Country Mortgage Campus
in Barrie, Ohio. This is Cleveland Browns Daily, presented by
Bally Bett, an official sports betting partner of your Cleveland
Browns on a fifty ESPN Cleveland. You are your hosts,
Bo Bishop and Nathan Zegura.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
All right, let's do it live on a first Friday
Miracle edition of Cleveland Brown's Daily. I am merely Bo,
be careful, let's go. Yesterday, there was a screen graph
made its way around. That is great, young Brock may
never get a lot of recommendation from you again. But
then in addition to that, then the Hoff cartooned it
(00:57):
in whe way which was perfect, and then in another
way that you were less fond of.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Correct.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
So now you gotta be careful with with all of this. Gibbet,
it's your pl You look great. You look great, Thank you,
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Minus, I'm wearing red at least I didn't wear orange today,
so it sucks into the walls. All you see is
my head. We always had university hospitals up there. You
get a little bit of red up here, you go,
so it all works, It all works. Yeah, yeah, it
was a It was a fantastic job by the hoff
and then I noticed there was a slight descript and
(01:30):
I on the second one and I was like, excuse me, yeah, no, wrong,
it was very good. My wife found that very entertaining. Yeah,
I think I think everybody had a nice little laugh
last night. You are welcome. What's those on that text change?
What is the line from?
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Uh from an old school I think everybody knows you
had a great time last night. Frank vonn hits hits
Frank the tank with that after that, I had a
great time last night. I think everybody knows you the
great Yeah, last night.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Listen.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
It's quite around the league. The Baltimore Ravens are doing
their mandatory mini camp, and so there's a little bit there,
but not much.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
It's basically like, hey, we got to go.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
There's one other team that's doing mandatory mini camp this week,
but I have I'm not.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Having sure who it is.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
I know there are two that are doing it. The
one I saw a little bit is Baltimore. That Baltimore
is doing their mandatory mini camp. So I have seen
a little bit of that. Other than that, it's quiet,
and it's quiet because this is truly the only downtime
in the National Football League that is available, and so
you get things like, for instance, what ESPN. I don't
know if you saw this what ESPN did this morning.
(02:35):
By the way, it is a mail bag edition of
Cleveland Browns Daily. And we will get to that coming
up in the around the two thirty mark of.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Maybe a little earlier, because Bobby has forty questions. Good
job out of Bobby. So this is how this happens.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
That's how you end up on like on the front
page of ESPN right now, Ultimate NFL team from the
past twenty five years. So they put together an all
time NFL team in the last twenty five years and
position by position kind of where they stand. If you're curious,
are we well represented?
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (03:06):
In fact, we have the starting left tackle on that team,
and that is the great Hoff and he is on
that team, I believe. Now I do have a player.
I assume it's Miles. Yeah, yes, yeah, there he is.
So Miles is one of the edge rushers as well.
So they went to Marcus where Jared, Allen, Miles, and
Julius Peppers are the four edges.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Did we have this later in the show. We did,
So that's Okay, I didn't mean to jump on No,
you're fine. It just came out. It was a big deal. Yeah.
So anyway, this is how this type of thing happens.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Is your there's there's a downtime in the league, and
that's how you have like what happened on Monday, for example,
Get Up was on and they were doing like what
is Dak Prescott's legacy?
Speaker 3 (03:47):
Well, this is why. Because there's not a.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Whole lot going on around the league, they know that
everybody wants to talk about football, So how do we
do it? So all of a sudden, we're twenty five years,
twenty five seasons, although twenty five seasons into the into
the end of the year, although this would be the
twenty twenty five season, obviously this fall we played twenty
five seasons, two thousands. That's how you get there. So
that's how these things happen. But other than that, it's
very quiet.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Lots of lists, we love lists. You got to I
was saving it for next week, but Pete Prisco has
this top one hundred out. Yeah. I think Miles was
number two in the entire NFL. For Pete Prisco.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
That's pretty good. It's got to be the highest we've
ever had anybody on here.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
I would say yes, considering you've never had anybody serious omissions.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Well, he blew the Nick Chubb thing a few years ago,
and then we had the trial of pre Pete Priscoe,
which we all remember so well.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Pete hasn't been non since. Pete Gibbs, I'm good.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
I'm good. I don't think I'm on. I don't think
I will come on and suffer the slings and arrows.
And z knew him, knows him him well from the
Old City yesterday.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Hugs at the combine. Yeah, had him on a mind. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Yeah, it is a first Friday, it's gonna be warm
this weekend. I'm going to give you my officially endorsed
right now. And and honestly, you have a prop that's
needed for if you're watching on the YouTube stream. Gibbe
always has his giant orange jetty. Is that is that
a thirty two or sixty four?
Speaker 3 (05:06):
I think it's a thirty thirty two. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Perfect.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
So you're gonna take a big yetty like the one
or something like that, an insulated glass like that. I
will be in Montana next week, So this is your
rodeo beers. This is what we call them. We call
these rodeo beers.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
Ye.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
So you take a yetti like that, you fill it.
We always fill it with two yellow jackets, but you
can fill it with whatever American lagger of your choice
would be. You pour two of those in there. You
take a half scoop of like we would just take
it out of the igloo cooler that the beers are
being held cool in, and you put a handful of
that in.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
You could do a scooper if you want.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
You put a handful of that in and then a
heavy lime squeeze on top.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
And we call those rodeo beers. So the beer followed
by a scoop of ice.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Ice and then the heavy lime on top. And that
will might you a little golf this, oh you, it'd
be great for the hooligans. Yeah, rodeo beers like a
rodeo use. Here's the deal there there, it sounds pretty
damn cool. What are you drinking little rodeo beers?
Speaker 3 (06:08):
That's gonna it's a conversation starter. That's a win.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
That's so that that'll be your officially endorsed because it is,
I mean officially. Summer is here in the next couple
of days. But also it appears we're finally gonna be hot.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Yes, exactly, and we're off tomorrow for the Juneteenth holiday. Yeah, Friday,
we have a taped best of Yeah, getaway day for
everybody on the on the show a little breather, Yeah,
and then we've got a few more shows to get
to and then fourth of July break, and then.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yeah, I don't want to think about that.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
It just comes.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
It's funny, you know when you're in this. You and
I were talking about this the other day, like when
when you do this, and this is an incredible profession
to be able to do, but the football season just
keeps getting longer and longer. There was a time when
you and I first got into this where I mean
in covering college football, like it kind of you do
a little bit with the first practices, but then the
rest of August was still oh, that was game.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
It was media for sure, that was it.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
That was it, and then you would you know, you'd
ramp up that week of the first college football games
heading into Labor Day weekend, and then it was it
was all done by the first of the year, and
you had another big break in December because it was
always you would play up until Thanksgiving and then you'd
be off for a month and you play a bowl
game and then you're done.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Well.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Now, on the college side, they have open practices because
they can create revenue for selling tickets for them in
late July and early August, and then they play until
end of January. Now, and on the NFL side, you
were saying, our rookies report like January eighteenth or July eighteenth,
I'm sorry, July somewhere in there, eighteen twenty twenty one,
(07:39):
whatever it is. Yeah, somewhere in that mix. Feels early.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
It sounds really early. I mean it's around a month
give or take.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
None of those dates are official, just just kind of
the idea of where you think it would be. And
then the veterans are going to be shortly thereafter, usually
three or four days after. Yeah, so it's like it's
man away. You go like you're going to be well
into this thing. But you get into that first week
of August and then the season ends, and it's going
to end even later. Eventually it's going to end President's Day,
but right now it ends the weekend before and that's
(08:06):
end of February. Yeah, it's a huge chunk of the
schedule of the year.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
I was just working on radio network schedules and whatnot
today and I'm like, oh, not ready, No, no, no,
this I need another month. Yeah, you're not going to
get one. No you're not.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
We had last night in the sports world. You had
the Stanley Cup awarded to the Florida Panthers. They've won
back to back Cups. Now it was over. You could
tell it was over for me. I watched the first
period and I'd seen enough. I knew that they were
gonna win. The worst game of it was, but it
was trending this way because of what happened in Edmonton
in the previous one, and so they didn't really get it.
(08:45):
The Florida's now went back to back cups they have.
It's interesting the other sports because we're dealing with this
on the NBA side a little bit with Oklahoma City
and and Indiana playing for the final. It's it's very,
very possible, and it's issue because the guy used to
be the general manager of the Monsters when they won
the Calder Cup as Bill Zito. He came up through
the Blue Jackets organization that he was the GM of
(09:07):
the Monsters when they won the Calder Cup. He's the
general manager of Florida, so he's been the boss there
since twenty twenty.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Monster's former play by play guy Doug Plague. That's is
the play by.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
And that's probably why. That's probably how it all worked out.
So anyway, so he's down there, he's been down there
for five years. They've won back to back Cups, and
it does seem to me like what they have done
down there is awakened a sleeping giant because there are
advantages that they have in roster building that it's apples
(09:41):
and avocados to the NFL, because in the NFL, a
franchise quarterback almost never gets traded or never gets to
free agency. You think about the circumstances surrounding Deshaun. I mean,
they never would have other become a free agent or
become available.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
They just don't.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
And that's kind of the rule of thumb. But in
that sport you do, and in the NBA you get
free agency. Baseball you get free agency, you get trades.
Florida has a couple of things. They have incredible weather. Yeah,
so you're gonna play a sport that's primarily played in
the winter. If you can live in an area where
it's eighty degrees every day, that's a win. Yeah, that's
(10:17):
a win. So they have incredible weather. Yep, they have
no state tax. That's the key that's really big. That's
the combination of the two because there are other states
like Tennessee doesn't have a state tax. I don't think
Texas does, Nevada doesn't. But the advantages so you have weather,
no state tax. And then the other thing that the
players down there they get is anonymity. They can live
(10:39):
their lives in peace and nobody bugs them because quite honestly,
most people don't know who they are. So there's that
part of it too. And now the way that they're built,
they've won two, they're gonna win more, and they're gonna
be They're gonna get at bats, a lot of at
bats to try to win it all, and they're going
to be a destination for players because of all of
(11:01):
the things I just mentioned, the same way that Tampa
Bay was when they won a couple of Cups here
in the last decade or so, Like, there are incredible
advantages to playing in those markets that it's really hard
to overcome.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
If you're these other markets in the in the in
that sport. Yeah, well it's the worst weather in the
country for three quarters of the country, yeah, December, January, February. Yeah,
and instead you're thriving in Florida in South Beach.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Yeah, I mean you're they're in Lauderdale. The stadiums in Lauderdale,
so they can live everywhere. Really, Fort Lauderdale all the
way down to Miami Beach keeps game wherever they were.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
Yeah, you go all the way up there.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
Yeah, so's it's kind of it's actually strange when you
think about it, and I assume the only reason the
Heat haven't been able to take similar advantage is just
because Riley's grip on the franchise and just how kind
of iron fist and the fact that Lebron left. But
there's no reason that the Miami Heat weren't this haven't
been doing this exact same thing, and they really haven't
(11:57):
attracted a free agent since Bosh Lebron. That's kind of
the last big time one that they that they did,
so that part's pretty pretty interest. But I think they
could win a ton of them. It's also thirty two
years now since Canada has won a cup, which is
pretty wild. Yeah, put yourself in if you flip that.
Imagine if the NFL was in both countries, and much
(12:23):
like in Canada, Canada provides the majority of the players
to the NHL. What I was going to ask is
that's still the case for sure? Okay, majority of the
players in the sport are from Canada. It is their
national sport. They invented it. So flip it and imagine
if the NFL was in both countries, if the majority
of the players are from the United States, and a
team from the United States hadn't won in thirty two years,
(12:46):
and you had to watch as Toronto Montreal like all
these teams from Canada. Sure, we're winning the Super Bowl
every year. That's basically what's happened. I mean, it's thirty
two years without a cup for them, which is hard
to wrap.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Your head around. Yeah, I don't know what the problem is.
Is it market size? Is it?
Speaker 2 (13:02):
I think I think it's a well, I think weather
is a part of it. Like, if you have your choice,
I'd prefer better weather, you know, And I get that.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
The taxes probably aren't so hot. I don't know, back
and forth. Aren't you getting taxed coming into America. I
don't know what the that would be.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
I'm not smart enough to know what exchange rate like
in terms of, there's your dollar worth more up there
than it is here.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
I'm headed there this weekend.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Oh you are, so our dollar's worth more than significantly
more than or theirs is worth more.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
So when I was a kid, a nice exchange rate
right now? Oh so there, their dollar is worth more
than our dollar. Okay, so you speak.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
When I was a kid, it was the other way, Bigley, Like,
you go up there with American dollars, you're killing it.
You could buy anything you wanted. It was crazy. So
now I didn't. I haven't been to Canada a while,
so I can't speak to that. But that's good to
know because you're headed there this weekend, right yeah, yes, yeah,
so it.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Just hasn't happened.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
And then the other thing that's kind of interesting about this,
and there's an NFL side of this too, is Connor
McDavid is the best player on the planet. He was
identified at thirteen fourteen, like most of these Canadian superstars
are identified, and he was picked number one. He's won MVPs,
he's done all these things, but he hasn't won the Cup.
(14:16):
And Gretzky won the Cup at twenty two. Same thing
identified at thirteen fourteen, number one, all of it delivered
right away. He won the Cup at twenty two. Mario Lemieux,
same thing, wanted it twenty five, Sure, Sidney Crosby wanted
it twenty one. Okay, So all of those guys won it.
McDavid's twenty eight. He has not won it, and he's
(14:39):
he is without question, And the only thing that keeps
this from being a bigger topic is because of how
far hockey has slipped in our country. He is the
most accomplished. He's the most accomplished current athlete to not
win a championship on the in the planet. I mean,
there's just no everybody else that's in that conversation, whether
(15:01):
it's Lamar or Josh Allen two MVPs one for Alan,
two for Lamar, Luka Doncic, like.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
All of that. He's the one. Sure, he's the biggest star.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
He's been the best player on the planet for a decade,
and he hasn't won it. And he's lost in game
seven last year, and he lost in game six this year.
I better team well, I think it speaks to how
hard it that one guy. Now, he was pretty he
was pretty passive in this in this series, he wasn't
(15:35):
he was He did not impose as well the way
that you want.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
I don't know, maybe trying to do too much. I
don't know.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
Sometimes you just got to throw it on net and
see what happens. And I don't know what I mean.
He's also going up against kind of a super team, honestly,
but yeah, there is there is this incredible mounting pressure.
And he becomes a free agent next year, So there's
that part of it. I don't feel like if you
do the best athlete, like best best athletes all time
(16:02):
to not win a championship, the top of that list
is usually baseball players, like Barry Bonds is on that list,
sure Ted Williams is on that list. Ty Cobb's on
that list, Mike Trout's on that list. There's a lot
of best baseball players ever, Like you could argue bab
but you could very much argue that Barry Bonds is
(16:22):
the best baseball player of all time.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
You very easily.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Could, and he's he's not on that list. You could
do the same thing if in the in the NFL.
I mean, you think about the Hoff, you think about
Barry Sanders, you think about Randy Moss. There's a lot
of guys who you could argue are the best to
ever play their position that didn't win super Bowls in
the NFL. But you can't do that at quarterback. At quarterback,
(16:47):
the best ones win it. Yeah, like without there's really
no exception. Marino's the best to not win it. Lamar
and and Josh will get there. They're young right now.
The most accomplished not to that are active. But it's
if you're a quarterback and you're great, you win one.
(17:08):
At least one. They all do. I mean Marino is
really the outlier. Like almost all the other ones who
you would consider the best to ever play the position
have won it at quarterback.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
Looking Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
It's it's it's really just Marino's because I mean Brady's
got seven, Montana's got four, Manning's got two, Elways got two.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
Yeah, they said Jim Kelly four super bowls, Yeah, lost
all of them. Frank Tarkington, Dan Fouts, Warnman and Marino
and Marino.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
Yeah, but nobody walks into any bar conversation and says
Dan Marino is the best quarterback ever. Nobody makes that.
You could do Brady, you do Montana. Some people might
be fanning because he's regular season. He's the most accomplished
for sure with all the MVPs. But it you never
have anybody going in because one of the entry points
into that conversation is did you win a Super Bowl?
(18:01):
How many Super Bowls you win? And if the answer
is none, then you can't be in that conversation. But
you can't the other sports. It's more difficult because one
person can't have It's so hard in baseball, it's so
hard in hockey for one person to have that type
of impact.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
Hoops it's easy.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
In fact, you would argue, if you do the ten
best players in NBA history, you can make a list
of the tip you might be able to get to
the best player in NBA history not to win a championships,
probably Elgind Baylor probably the one. He's a top twenty
player all time, but he's not top ten. Everything in
the top ten has won multiple multiple championships.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
Yeah, I mean the NBA. I start right off the
bat with Barkley.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Yeah, and he's a top fifty player all time. Karl
Malone's a top fifty player all time. I mean, it's Stockton,
it's Nash, it's Barkley Malone. Yeah, Alan Iverson. But none
of those would you walk in and say they're a
top ten player of all time. Everybody who's in the
top ten has won it. And that's the thing that
McDavid is now in this spot of the amount of
(19:11):
pressure that's now going to be on him. And the
only thing that I think he benefits is he plays
in Edmonton, which is so remote that it's not something
top of mind. Like if he was in Toronto would
be a much bigger problem. But Edmondson, I just I'm
sure they probably just so appreciative that he's there that
they don't they're probably not burying him and they don't
want him to leave. So that's but he's that type
(19:31):
of talent and to not do it, it's a nothing
list in the NHL.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
So if Dan Marino wins a Super Bowl, yeah, is
he one of the top ten best quarterbacks at that time?
He might be anyway, He might be anyway.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
When he retired, he was the NFL's all time leader
in yardage and touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
First quarterback, threeach five thousand passing yards in a year,
fifty thousand career passing yards, and forty plus touchdown passes
in a season. Yeah, I mean sixty one thousand passing yards,
four hundred and twenty touchdowns to just two fifty two interceptions.
Efficiency rating of eighty six point four six all Pro
(20:12):
selections nine trouble bro.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
Yeah, I mean he's top ten anyway. He's top ten
anyway to me. NFL quarterback Brady Montana gap, then Manning,
and then I think it's kind of another gap. Then
you get into like Rogers, Farv, Marino, stop Ac. I mean,
(20:37):
because you're gonna have to have some of those guys
Unitis United would probably be there with Manning. Honestly, he'd
probably be in that realm.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
Our Gay Otto, Yeah, yeah, I mean he would be
there with He's he's such.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
A tricky one because he's so accomplished. I mean, it's
crazy what he did in a ten year period, but
it's it's so long ago it's hard to like put
it into perspective. But yeah, like Otto would definitely be
in that group. He definitely would make the top five.
I still think Marino's top ten.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
Though Marino MVP in eighty four. Yeah, three time first
team All Pro eighty four, eighty five, eighty six, Yeah,
made it at a time where you're up against Montana. Yeah,
I mean yeah, oh yeah, the quarterback press. Yeah, and
(21:28):
he's first team All Pro. He was a three time
second team All Pro eighty three, and then jumps to
ninety four ninety five. So from eighty six to ninety four,
not he was a He was a pro bowler, but
he wasn't an All Pro. And then on the back
end of his career, five time NFL passing yards leader
(21:51):
eighty four, eighty five, eighty six, eighty eight, ninety two.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
I mean, he's definitely top ten, but he can't get
into that top echelon because there's.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
No there's no there's no Super Bowl. Yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
Lebron made some headlines this week about tying. He's trying
to redefine greatest of all time. So one thing that
he's doing is he's trying to eliminate the team component
of it, because that's the Jordan tiebreaker is Jordan has
the championships, He's got the six titles to Lebron's four,
and Lebron's is the thing he's going for is like
(22:27):
Corse Hilly. It's a team of deave accomplishment versus an
individual accomplishment. Here's what I would say to the from
the He's never going to win that argument. It's always
going to be Jordan. I don't see any scenario how
it's not. But the one thing I will say is
he's better longer than anyone's bet at anything in the
history of sport. No one's been better longer than he is.
(22:50):
I mean it's not not even Brady, No, not like that. No, No,
And Brady was incredibly he won a Super Bowl forty five,
but like to still make like all NBA teams twenty
some years into the league.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Yeah, I'll give you that. Yeah it is. It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
Uh, you guys want to pick one of these to watch?
What you need you watching?
Speaker 3 (23:09):
Why? Game seven of an NBA Finals, Game seven of
a Stanley.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
So like, oh, if it was all had gone to seven?
Speaker 3 (23:17):
Yeah, oh that's easy.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Yeah, I'm going to Edmonton for that, Okay, because it
would have been in Edmonton, which would have been the
city would have been. It would be like a Canadian
hockey game seven, would be like us hosting the AFC
Championship game. Yeah, like the city would shut down done.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
Yeah, like, no way, man, I mean it's yeah. I
think it's that one Stanley Cup Game seven of the
NBA Finals this year, or the Indiana fever Connecticut son.
After last night's little melee, I'm going w NBA ten
Brocks given me a evil eye. The NBA is number
(23:59):
three right now. Oh, I don't care about this final
at all. I don't don't care about it, don't I
don't care. Had I know.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
We had Jake on yesterday and I had him on
this morning, and he and I were talking about he
goes and he asked me, so, well, why do you
think this is? And he goes, do you think it's
small markets? It's not small markets. It's it's stars. It's
it's they have not done a good job of setting
the agenda that the masses in this country who consume
sports need to pay attention to. Shay Gil just Alexander.
(24:27):
It's not market size because the reason I can tell
you it's not market size is the one entity in
sport right now that moves the needle all by itself
is Caitlin Clark. And she's from Iowa. Yeah, she played
college basketball at Iowa. She's from Iowa, and then she's
in Indiana Indiana and rates double when she plays versus
when she doesn't.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
So it's star power.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
And they didn't do a good enough job of building
up Why we should care, not us correct the public
at large, why they should care about Shay gil Just Alexander.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
They didn't do a good job. Gil j Just Alexander
played on a team. Does that change no? Well, does
the league promote him more? Is what I'm saying. Maybe.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
I think maybe if it's the Lakers, maybe, But I
think the Lakers are kind of the only ones because
it's not even Boston. Last year it was Boston and Dallas,
and the ratings weren't great.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
Boston was just workman.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Like, it wasn't the and it was I mean, Dallas
is a top five metropolitan area in this country and
it was them against Boston, the most winning franchise ever
and those it didn't rate Bonanza no. So it to me,
I think they've done a really poor job. I think
that league has failed miserably in regard to knowing when
to get off of this steph Lebron train they keep.
(25:44):
And you understand it because they were great in the
Olympics in twenty twenty four. They've been the faces of
the league for fifteen years, Lebron for twenty and they
just were unwilling to pivot off of it in any
way and prop up some of these other stars. And
that's Jason Tatum, at Shay Gill, Alexander, It's Anthony.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
Edwards, it's all of it. It's our guy, it's our guy.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Yeah, Yeah, they just have they haven't done a good
job of getting the casual fan to care about those players,
which stinks.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
Yeah, stinks for them. It's going it's going to hurt
them down the road here.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
It's gonna hurt a big time because Oklahoma City is
not going anywhere like they're gonna win is.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
It tomorrow night? Yes, tomorrow night.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
And Haliburton's probably not. He's limited at best, that is
very limited at best. So yeah, I mean, I think
that's kind of where it is. Is is you're gonna
be looking at You're gonna be looking at this OKAC
team for a while, and they need to do a
better job of of of making sure people are the
casual fan is aware of who he is at at
(26:45):
a very very high level. So that's the other thing
I said to Jake too. He and I had this
conversation about you know, I mean, he grew up in
Oklahoma City. Boomer Sooner Norman is a suburb. The sport
that he grew up paying the most closest attention, that
was the most regional sport has become national and all
the rest of this stuff has become regional and really
(27:06):
hyper local. You really only care about your team. Yeah,
it's kind of what it is. You don't care about
whatever else is happening around the league other than the NFL.
The NFL is the one thing that's out there. The
Caitlin Clark stuff's pretty interesting how obviously the book's out
on her to try to be physical. Do you know
who was involved in that was Jace Sheldon. She's a
(27:27):
Dublin girl, Dublin, Ohio. She played at Ohio State, first
team All American at Ohio State, All Big Ten player
I think two or three years so that was between her.
So they go back to Ohio State Iowa. So that's
kind of where some of that chippiness comes from. But
clearly the book on her is to be ultra physical
with her and try to bully her. I don't think
what jac did was that at all. She accidentally poked
(27:48):
her in the eye, as inevitable would happen, and then
a player for Indiana. Is that I had heard brought
Young Brock, I heard that that you were dating Sophie Cunningham.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
Is that correct? Yeah, it's okay, that's what I thought.
I thought that that was congratulations on all of his successes. Cool.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
Okay, you just cruising over from Butler took in?
Speaker 4 (28:08):
Did you get you?
Speaker 3 (28:09):
Do you? Guys?
Speaker 2 (28:10):
You rebound for when she gets some shots up?
Speaker 3 (28:13):
No, I have a lovely girlfriend.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
Be a hell of a better story. I mean, I'm
sure she's lovely, but I'm sure she's great. Sure she's great,
Young Brock. It would have been a hell of a better.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
Story if it was the other way. I just liked that, soone.
You know how she works. Actual team came to her
defense last night. Well do you know who?
Speaker 4 (28:32):
So?
Speaker 2 (28:33):
Did you know who Sophie Cunningham was before last night?
Speaker 3 (28:35):
I did? You had seen her? Yes? She's around? Yeah? Yeah, yeah,
there you go.
Speaker 4 (28:40):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (28:40):

Speaker 5 (30:20):
So you're excited about your Pacers.
Speaker 6 (30:24):
Yeah, I am definitely excited to see the Pacers, you know,
hopefully close this series out. And you know, it'll be
nice to see if the patients bring a championship to Indianapolis.
You know a lot of people was there in the
A V eight days, but you know this is like
a you know, for real thing. You know, we have
vinsus Reggie, So I think it'd be good.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
For us, just the recovery.
Speaker 7 (30:44):
He's you know, to talk about it and just you
know where you are and how you know, health wise,
how do you feel right now, maybe even compared to
a year.
Speaker 6 (30:50):
Ago this time health wise, I feel, you know better,
you know, I should say I feel like I took
care of my body a little bit better than offuly.
You know that was the main thing. Just you know,
just make those little small adjustments from last year to
this year and just you know, work on and you know,
get better. You know, I lost a l I lost
a lot of a lot of body fat and then
you know, I pride myself on that and so you know,
(31:11):
I'm I'm happy about that.
Speaker 7 (31:12):
You say, changing diet, changing regiment, what what what specifically
do you think?
Speaker 4 (31:17):
What what can kind of contribute into that? Uh?
Speaker 6 (31:19):
I had just said Kelsey, which is our nutritionness And
so you know, we worked all off season together and
you know, we came up with a great plan and
it definitely came together and you know it was worked.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
Out for me.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
Was it was it mostly the injury last year that kept.
Speaker 7 (31:32):
You from maybe being in the shape year gonna be
in or did you just sort of have to learn
what what it to it? Nah?
Speaker 6 (31:37):
And for sure, you know the lingering injury, you know
with my knee and it it sucks, you know, like
like I wouldn't be out there. You know, i'm'a do
as much as I can, you know, but you know
I can only go as far as my body goes.
And you know, uh, like y, like I said, I
had to have surgery last year, and you know I
feel better now, you know.
Speaker 5 (31:52):
You know it was only those three games we got
to see you start at left tackle, but I know
Andrew and Kevin have been really complimentary of what you
were able to do over there in that small sample size.
Just how would you assess what you did last year
and how ready are you to try to show that
that starting job to be yours this year?
Speaker 6 (32:09):
My main thing is just to take a challenge on
you know. Uh, you know I kept it as really
as possible. Ab you know, I I personally don't like
playing left tackle like that, but you know I I
don't care like I'm an athletic, you know it. It's it
comes with the nature of the game, you know, uh.
And you know I think it worst can do it,
and you know he went from right to left and
you know he struggled too, and you know, if he
can do it, I know I can, you know, cause
(32:29):
he's he's a black enough, he's big enough, just like me.
Speaker 4 (32:32):
And you know, I, I uh, I.
Speaker 5 (32:33):
Feel that what made you has made you like the
right side so much, like it's early on.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
I mean, something that you play your whole life. I
think you can't.
Speaker 6 (32:41):
You know, it's hard to adapt to something else. You know, uh,
I have like a big strong like you know, right
hand punch. You know I'm right handed, so it's easy
but function youre right, but you know, left side, I
feel like it's more finess. And you know the game
it's like, you know, it comes to you a little
bit slower and you know, sometimes faster at times.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
It just depends.
Speaker 6 (32:57):
Well, but how much you wait, that's a lot of
body fat, you know, kind of same weight it's from.
I would say I lost probably twenty pounds more last year.
So you know, no range or nothing, but you know,
for sure loss of live body fat.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
From one side and the other.
Speaker 8 (33:14):
It's so good the first So like I I, for
some guys you can do it, you always see another
that you can't from cause for uh, I think you
can kind of assuming it's make it easier.
Speaker 4 (33:21):
It's cause it's us a ship player performs.
Speaker 7 (33:23):
It's just why isn't pretty?
Speaker 6 (33:24):
It's just different just cause of the angles. That's the
main thing for me. You know, I'm still trying to
figure that out. It's just like you know, the way
to shave or something, and you know it's just it
just comes to you more naturally.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
You're right handed, and you know, it's just like doing
everything with your left is like right in your hand
with your left. You know.
Speaker 6 (33:40):
Uh, I feel like I'm start to start doing that
stuff in life, you know, just start doing everything in
my left. And I'm already trying to do that, and
so I feel like it's working for me.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
I need time to go about losing that weight, that
body fat and like how would that make you a
better player?
Speaker 4 (33:52):
Uh? L.
Speaker 6 (33:53):
Like I said, I am playing left tackle. Most of
the left tackles are a little bit more leaner, and uh,
you know, I feel like that would help my game,
you know, being lean and be able to.
Speaker 4 (34:00):
Go with the ball.
Speaker 6 (34:01):
You know, I got not going against Miles all the
time on the right side, left side, you know Miles
there every time, and so you know, lighter off your
feet and you know you can get to block Momsy.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
What can you lear What can you learn from from
his Blockstom Miles or from Canti?
Speaker 7 (34:15):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (34:17):
Probably patience. He has a lot of power. I think
that's the main thing.
Speaker 6 (34:20):
I'm more uh in his finesse, his finesse at the
top of the rush, or you know, just shock and shedule.
I think that's where I can really learn a lot
of you know, figure out my hands or put 'em
and you know, I think he'll he'll help me.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
Out a lot. Are you studying certain puts?
Speaker 5 (34:33):
I remember last year I said something, I'm running Stanley
and really like him when you studying out.
Speaker 6 (34:36):
There, like certain guys like, yeah, I think I did
uh Trent Brown this this off season? Uh yeah, I
would see you peop that. Uh I did Trent Brown
this off season off Uh he had a real good
year when he went to left from uh left to
right or right to left from the Patriots when he
was on their team, and uh, I think he did
a real good job or and they kind of played
similar opponents we did cause they're in the FC, And
(34:56):
so I really like, like like that about him, and
you know, he wanted to get my miles and he
you know, he has something for males and I I'll
just take that and try to put it in my game.
Speaker 5 (35:04):
You wanna just considering the injuries you've dealt with the
first two years of your career. I know the broken
bone was kind of a free thing, but changing your
body composition, doing all those things, how much of that
is kind of inspired by wanting to, I imagine, play
all the seventeen regular season games.
Speaker 6 (35:19):
Yeah, that's a you know, that's one of my major
goals that I made, is just a finish out the
whole season, you know, and you know I just wanna
live to that.
Speaker 4 (35:27):
I wanna uh.
Speaker 8 (35:28):
I know Joel's wanna out there on the stay with
you guys right now though.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
Know he's been around and you.
Speaker 8 (35:31):
Kind of s that shit that how much can you
or will you lean on him to just out be
on that west side and just tell you how to
play next to to.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
I lean on him a lot. You know, he he's
right next to the means now you could rock.
Speaker 7 (35:45):
And now.
Speaker 6 (35:48):
I lean on Joe a lot though he he's right
next to me, it means, and I think he helps
me out just cause you know, he knows him a
young guy I haven't put on that side, and so
he kind of like you know, gives him the T sheet.
But you know, I kind of try to figure is
on my own, which you know, it's football.
Speaker 4 (36:02):
Whatch you got? G got you?
Speaker 8 (36:04):
When you watch guys like Ronnie Tran's uh Tristan works,
what do you what are you specifically to watch what
you're trying to take a.
Speaker 4 (36:12):
Front of me.
Speaker 6 (36:12):
Just the way they move in space. You know, I
think I sometimes struggled up, you know, just moving in spaces,
me as a big guy. And you know Trent Brown
to Williams, uh, Tristan they all move well in space
and uh, you know in the past game, you know,
their feet is always in sync with each other. You
know sometimes like I've seen Trim could beat you know Trump,
I obvious. You know he used to got beat by
my house. He's got you know, he's got be by Michael.
(36:33):
But you know it's very rare, and you know, I
wanna be in that very rare category. And you know,
I I it's good watching them and you know, getting
that you know filming cause you know you see it
and then you like we're doing the field and it
helps out so much.
Speaker 8 (36:47):
What was your recovery like from the looking leg When
did you basically get back to like any like or
and actually versus cost?
Speaker 4 (36:55):
Uh the recovery was long. Uh you know that was
the main part.
Speaker 8 (36:58):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (37:00):
I just you know, I just put my head down.
You know, I f like I said, I I feel
like I didn't I could've really attacked. They years past
pribor uh treatment a little better. And you know, I
feel like I did that this year.
Speaker 7 (37:11):
You know.
Speaker 6 (37:11):
It definitely is that times is sore, and you know
it's stuff I can't control, you know, but uh, I
definitely took a good approach.
Speaker 4 (37:17):
You know that the trainers, the training share got me
right for short. Hey, the wine.
Speaker 9 (37:20):
You a basketball player in high school, and a lot
of times people say when you cross train in other
sports it helps you in football or other sports. You
think that the footwork you had to use playing basketball
helps you, d uh help help you develop as a
tackle when you were able to play both sides and
this flawless man.
Speaker 6 (37:37):
I think that's the main thing, you know, as well
as my like I said, my footwork and you know, yes,
playing basketball help a lot, you know, whether from shuffling
like I said, I have to turn this way or
shuffle from right to you know, and it's just like football.
You know you're gonna shuffle on defense and you know
it just got can't let the guy get to the basket,
you know. So that's what I mean, goes, Don't let
the guy get to the quarterback. Don't let the guy
get to the basketball.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
I work with Coach Kumbrean and and everything.
Speaker 6 (38:02):
Huh uh, it's been well, you know, he just came
from Bill and you know, got some good stuff from
Coach Callahan and you know, I I love that.
Speaker 5 (38:08):
I know, Joel said he's been good with developing the
young guys, especially already earlier.
Speaker 3 (38:12):
Consider you in that group.
Speaker 5 (38:14):
Do you feel like that that you're gonna take a
next step with him?
Speaker 3 (38:17):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (38:17):
Yeah, yeah, you know hopefully you know, uh, like I said,
we've been had three in the past three years. But
hopefully Coach blow him gets to stay and you know,
you know, I would let it hap him here for
a long time.
Speaker 8 (38:26):
But Joel Joe also kind of said that coach drums
great and use a different world, but he called him
like a jerk sort of and how he thinks like
offensive oneman kind of need that is that sort of
the same style that you kind of appreciated the coach
you room where they can sort of be tough on you.
Speaker 6 (38:38):
That's with a tough lolove Uh. Sometimes you know, I
I you know, I check it at the door. You know,
I just tell him, like, you know, I gotta keep it. Really,
how you wanna be coaching, how you don't be coaching
And you know I tell him at the beginning, and
w everybody finds their own landing path, you know, like
Callahan coached me different the way he coach White, And
you know everybody knows that.
Speaker 4 (38:57):
And you know it's just that just out of a coach,
are you know?
Speaker 3 (39:01):
All right?
Speaker 2 (39:01):

Speaker 3 (40:00):
Plus this in the National Football we were saying there's
no news. Well now there is, of course there is.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
Ex Packer corner JayR Alexander signs a one year deal
to join the Baltimore Ravens, coming off of consecutive injury
plague seasons during which he played a total of fourteen games.
But he is a two time Pro Bowler. Now joins
a raven secondary that includes Marlon Humphrey, second year starting
quarter Nate Wiggins.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
And mean, they're pretty loaded up.
Speaker 4 (40:26):
This is what they do.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
And he'll be great. There, I just book it. He'll
be great. So here's this is clearly the Ravens. We're
all in. Yeah, right now the window is now. There's
gonna have to be another extension for Lamar that's gonna
come sooner rather than later. And you know how well
all of those negotiations have gone with Lamar because he
represents himself. Yeah, so that always becomes a stumbling block.
(40:52):
It's a one year, six million dollar deal. Lamar basically
called this yesterday in his press case. He did now
our Jire Alexander played together at Louisville. Yeah, so when
Lamar started hinting around, you knew there was something on
the horizon, and sure enough today he's a Baltimore Raven.
(41:13):
They are loaded. You know we did did we do
last week? The over under? Like best rosters? I think
we did best rosters in the year. We could have. Yeah,
we could have. I don't know how they're not.
Speaker 2 (41:26):
It's yeah, I mean that I think you know, we've
been talking about this all spring. I think you know
them and them and Buffalo have a pressure that is
just different than everybody else. And I think those two
teams have more pressure on them than the rest of
the league combined. But yeah, and Baltimore might have the most.
Like you got a two time MVP. Yeah, you are
all in, but probably you're right, probably should have been
(41:49):
a three. And you have how much longer is Derek
Henry going to be this effective? We've been saying that
for a couple of years and then last year's great.
So but at some point it will stop. And when
it stops, you're not replacing him. So yeah, I mean,
I think they are as leveraged as can be to
go make a run at this thing.
Speaker 3 (42:09):
You have, Lamar, Your backup is Cooper Rush, who's won
games when he was with Dallas, Like He's a proven backup.
They have backups at every position. It's disgusting. Henry Justice
Hill is a good running back. Yep Za Flowers Bateman.
They brought in DeAndre Hopkins. I don't know what's gonna
what he's got left in the gas tank because he
didn't show Muchigan Kansas City, But Mark Andrews Ricard, your
(42:34):
offensive line is really good. I mean defensively is mattabk Vanoi,
Rokwan Smith, Oway, Kyle Hampton, Oh, Malachi Starks, the rookie
now JayR Alexander, Marlon Humphrey is now coming off the
bench for them.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
What I think is pretty wild. What happened there is
they they have over the last twenty five years become
a really cool franchise in the eyes of the folks
in the league and fans and so forth. They become
a place when that you will play there for discount.
I mean, this is something historically that years ago, like
(43:14):
the Cowboys would get this, the forty nine Ers would
get this. Usually it was reserved for like the teams
that won a lot would be able to get this,
the Raiders because people like the idea of the silver
and Black, so you'd get a guy, you know, maybe
in the Twilight playing.
Speaker 3 (43:26):
At discount for the Raiders. That's what they are.
Speaker 2 (43:29):
They've been doing this for a long time where guys
will paratroop in there and play and it's a very
desirable place to go. And it sucks because they're in
our division and we have to deal with them all
the time. But no, yeah, it's a very Ravens move
in my view. Speaking of the NFL. The NFL. Today,
CBS pregame she'll be hitting the road this upcoming season
(43:50):
on SLEX. Sunday's previously show aired from CBS Studios in
New York. The cast consists of James Brown, Bill Cower,
Nate Burlson, JJ Watt, Matt Ryan, and Jonathan Jones. They'll
broadcast from lambeau Field. When the Packers hosted the Lions.
So Fox tried this with Joe Buck. Do you remember
this when Joe Buck was actually hosting. So when Pat
summer All retired, Joe Buck took over to the Pat
(44:13):
summer All role, but he was also hosting because JB
used to be on Fox, and there was a time
before Menefee got promoted up. So for in the very beginning,
Joe Buck was a team and he hosted the pregame
show and it maybe only happened for a year, but
it was very brief, and then Menefee came in.
Speaker 3 (44:32):
It was a lot.
Speaker 2 (44:32):
Then Menafie came in and did it. They've tried this before.
It worked on the show. Hoff was on the NFL
Network show on Thursday Night. Sure worked there. I don't
think it works at one o'clock.
Speaker 3 (44:46):
I don't. I think you can do it when there's
a big four o'clock game. They did that late last year.
I think they were in Buffalo, Is that right? Were
they in Buffalo? I think CBS was in Buffalo because
Nance even said, you guys should do this more often.
You guys got to come out to some of these.
(45:07):
Maybe it was Detroit. It might have been Detroit. It
might have been Detroit, Minnesota. Yeah, either way, I think
you could pick and choose. But the NFL pregame shows
aren't college game day and you're not getting the college
audience you also have to have. Yeah, so it works
in college for one kids.
Speaker 2 (45:31):
Yeah, lots of kids correct that want to be on TV.
So that's part of it. That's a big reason that
it works. There is almost always either a they're either
in a quad or a square or out front of
a stadium, so all of those things, those are all lamps.
It's just a totally different feel like a college morning
(45:51):
versus I mean, we as close.
Speaker 4 (45:53):
I tell you.
Speaker 2 (45:53):
The one thing that if they're going to do it,
then they've got to go to places in the north.
And then the other thing is you need somebody on
that panel who will play TV. Yeah, because all those
guys take themselves really seriously and they act like what
they're saying has never been said before in the history
of football.
Speaker 3 (46:10):
You have to have somebody. In the old days it was.
Speaker 2 (46:12):
Herb or foul or not corso, and in the last
four or five years it's been McAfee.
Speaker 3 (46:17):
Sure.
Speaker 2 (46:17):
You have to have somebody who will play to the
audience that's behind you.
Speaker 3 (46:21):
You're you're doing too.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
That's what's so hard about remote television. I did it
a lot when I was in the TV game. It
is so hard because you have to play to the
audience that's behind you, while also the more important thing
is the audience through the screen. Yeah, Because that's so
you have to have both money, right, So you have
to do both a little bit because you do need
the audience behind you to be engaged. They got to
(46:42):
be loud, they got to be having a good time. Like,
if you were going to do it for our games,
you'd have to go to the Muni Lot, but then
you're going to run into all sorts of stuff with
the FCC.
Speaker 3 (46:51):
Sure, so.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
You know, the better place would be somewhere around the stadium,
but we don't have tailgating currently there around the stadium,
so there's there's no real way to do it there.
Like the place to do it would be the Muni Lot.
When we get the dome, then it'll be different. You'll
be able to be in those.
Speaker 3 (47:05):
In those Yeah, I think I think the Thursday Night
crew was outside. They were on dog Pound Drive. The
Pound Drive. Yeah, that's not bad. But again, now you've
got to get people to leave their tailgating to come
to dog Pound Drive, which we want them to do.
Speaker 2 (47:18):
But right, but at the same time, like they're setting
their way, Yeah they're walking, you're not. That's the thing
about the college experience is like everyone's just kind of
there and they stay and the only people crazy enough
to do that typically are people in their eighteen to
twenty twos. Correct yeah, people who don't read dms from
Sophie Cunningham, just saying, just saying, yesterday, boy, yesterday mark
(47:41):
the thirty first anniversary.
Speaker 3 (47:43):
I just I saw this this morning as well. You've
seen the thirty for thirty on this right. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (47:48):
So for the kids like young Brock and young doctor J.
Yesterday in nineteen ninety four, Arnold Palmer was playing his
final round of a major championship at the US Open
at Oak which is his home course. The New York
Rangers were celebrating a Stanley Cup, their first Stanley Cup
win ever, with a ticker tape parade in.
Speaker 3 (48:11):
New York City.
Speaker 2 (48:13):
It was game one of the NBA Final or game
it was some game in the NBA Finals that the
Knicks were involved correct against the Rockets. Yep, so that
was happening in New York as well. Ken Griffy Junior
hit his thirtieth home run faster than Babe Ruth hit
his thirtieth. This is before people hit seventy. This was
trying to get sixty one, correct and he was the
(48:35):
fastest ever to thirty.
Speaker 3 (48:37):
And on that same day O. J. Simpson got in
a white brown also a World Cup game part of
the World Cup. The voice of the Browns was calling
the World Cup. That's exactly right, the great Jim Donovan,
So that's right.
Speaker 2 (48:48):
The World Cup was kicking off all in the same.
The coolest thing if you haven't seen that documentary, it's
a thirty for thirty. That's amazing if you haven't seen it.
My favorite part of it is they show Justice and
Berman because Berman's doing the US Open. I believe he's
doing the US Open at that time, and Costas is
doing the NBA. You hear them talking to their producers
(49:09):
about how to handle it. What are we supposed to
do here? Yeah, and there's also in it there's a video.
I'm pretty I think I remember this right. There is
a video that shows Arnold Palmer and OJ Simpson making
a Hurtz commercial together in the seventies.
Speaker 3 (49:25):
Yeah, because all the commercials you can't you couldn't pull
them in time.
Speaker 2 (49:29):
I think that the apples to apples for the OJ thing. Now,
the athlete to me that would be that would probably
be Peyton Manning. That's how shocking it was.
Speaker 3 (49:38):
It was well, and that's you're watching the NBC stuff
because of the NBA Finals game. I mean, he's their
friend and colleague. Dude. He was on the NBC forever,
he was in the Naked Gun. He was in a
thousand ads.
Speaker 4 (49:54):
For these kids. They have milk.
Speaker 2 (49:56):
It looks kind of it might be okay with Liamba,
so it might be okay. It's hard because if you're
of a certain age and you weren't around at that time,
it's impossible to understand. But I mean, imagine if Peyton
Manning were being charged with murder of his ex wife
and her boyfriend and driving through the streets of Denver
(50:17):
being chased by police, because that's probably.
Speaker 4 (50:20):
What it would be.
Speaker 3 (50:21):
I don't Oh.
Speaker 2 (50:22):
J was everywhere he was, He was everywhere popular, Yeah,
and we had. The other thing is is there was
no Internet, so you didn't know about the previous domestic
violence stuff that had happened in the eighties.
Speaker 3 (50:32):
You didn't know any of it.
Speaker 2 (50:34):
So the first time you heard any of this was wait, what, Oh,
he's on the run, miss Nuts.
Speaker 3 (50:42):
And then you're like, are we sure he's in that car?
Are we sure he's in that in that bronco.
Speaker 2 (50:48):
One of the highlights of my entire time doing this,
it will be this as long as I do. This
is when we had al Michael's in here, and he
did and we asked him about I asked him about
farcical because he used that. He was called in and
with Peter Jennings yeah too, because he knew OJ and
lived in the same neighborhood. He's sitting there with Peter
Jennings on ABC News and trying to break all this down.
(51:09):
And they took a Howard Stern prank caller I remember,
and and Michael's had the great line about farcical and
all of that. I mean, that's where that came from.
So yeah, that's that's wild.
Speaker 3 (51:21):
That was a wild day.
Speaker 2 (51:22):
If you have not seen that documentary, I couldn't recommend
it more highly enough. It's crazy that all those things
happened in the same day. The great Bill Bender of
the Sporting News is going to join us. We are
going to pick the best college football games each week
for the upcoming season. We'll have a little fun doing that.
Coming up next, the mail bag is open as well.

Speaker 3 (52:28):
Great. He is Bill Bender, and he joins us in Gibbe.
We have a task we do. Hi Bender, how are you?
Thank you first and foremost because I went to him
at eleven like forty with this idea. I'm here.
Speaker 7 (52:41):
Thanks for having me on.
Speaker 2 (52:43):
Hey buddy, uh do you are you lacrossing this weekend
or what are you? What's your youth activity this weekend?
Speaker 3 (52:49):
Weekend?
Speaker 7 (52:49):
We did the boys did this weekend. My daughter's team
as a tournament this weekend, and then we go to
Indianapolis next weekend. So you know, it's fun, as you know,
And I think you're a guy that spends quite we had.
We were blessed by the weather this weekend. It wasn't
quite as sunny and hot, but I know that's coming
at the next couple.
Speaker 3 (53:10):
Yes, it is, it is.
Speaker 2 (53:11):
I was, we're going to be in Annapolis this weekend
and I looked at it looks like it's gonna be
mid nineties on the turf. So that'll be nice, nice
and nice nice weather over there. My friend, it's good
talking to you. Go ahead, Gibby.
Speaker 4 (53:20):
What do we have?
Speaker 3 (53:21):
All right, gentlemen? Your task today?
Speaker 4 (53:24):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (53:25):
I sent this to Bender already, he's got a copy
as well. You have a list of the best college
football games each week for the upcoming season.
Speaker 4 (53:34):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (53:35):
Your assignment. If you can only pick one game to
watch slash cover yep, which one are you taking? And why? Okay,
so Week one we've got this is the August twenty third,
September first window. We've got a couple of yews. You
got Week zero as zero.
Speaker 2 (53:56):
Iowa State the game, and yeah, I always like Dublin.
Yeah I probably don't know for that.
Speaker 3 (54:00):
Ioways stayed at Kansas State in Dublin, Texas, at Ohio State, LSU, Clemson,
Notre Dame Miami.
Speaker 2 (54:10):
Bender, why didn't let's just pretend that you and I
are the bosses of college football. Why in the hell
I'm going to stay away from the Fox.
Speaker 3 (54:17):
Noon thing with Ohio State. Have done enough of that
in the last few months.
Speaker 2 (54:20):
But if you were to say, why wouldn't somebody take
a Notre Dame Miami or LSU Clemson. I guess they're
both television partners on ABC. That's why I guess My
thing is there's al much too much good stuff this
first weekend because this is these I would love to
be at LSU at Clemson. I think the clear answers
Texas at Ohio State, right Bill, But at the same point,
(54:42):
like atmosphere, it's probably gonna better at Clemson.
Speaker 7 (54:45):
Yeah, I'm going to Texas Ohio State, even though I
think LSU Clemson's probably got a little more impact in
some ways because you know, the quarterbacks, the acc SEC matchup,
but you know, getting the windows right, I mean, Miami
Notre Dame a good one too, But you know, arch
Manning's debut defending national champion. The shoe should be at night,
(55:07):
but we'll leave the go that's the game.
Speaker 4 (55:09):
I'm going to yeah.
Speaker 2 (55:11):
And the other thing Gibby about this is l s
U at Clemson is the only one of these matchups
where returning quarterbacks are returning quarterbacks for both teams. So
it's not Smyer and club Nick in that one. Notre
Dame's probably gonna be Lloyd Carr's grandson, Miami's Carson Beck.
I mean, they forget about that. But Carson Beck is
gonna be Miami. And then obviously it's gonna be Julian
saying and in Arch. So that's that's That's the game
(55:33):
of the year in college football, and you might get
it twice onward.
Speaker 3 (55:37):
We go to the following week. Gentlemen, there's a one
option and this is what we talked about, like they
just how about how about we push one of the
games from week zero back? Uh, it's Michigan at Oklahoma.
Not it is what it is.
Speaker 7 (55:52):
I'm okay, I'm going to the other O you that weekend,
the real one, and I'm gonna go watch him play
West Virginia. West Virginia at Pedon. That's the game of
the week. You know, West Virginia's coming down to the
Mac and uh, that's the game I would go to
and part of the reason, as you see with my picks,
(56:13):
I'm only wanting to go to places once or in
the Ohio States case twice, I'm trying to get to
as many places as possible.
Speaker 3 (56:21):
I love that thought.
Speaker 2 (56:22):
I all think it's really cool that Ohio and West
Virginia made this happen. What's the distance between those two campuses?
Speaker 3 (56:28):
Bill, it can't be far.
Speaker 7 (56:30):
No, And I remember watching West Virginia way back with
a guy named Amos Zaraway. He played for the Steelers.
He ran all over the Bobcats, I think the last
time we played him, So a little payback in Peeden.
Who knows rich Rod will be there? I mean that's
one thing.
Speaker 4 (56:45):
Point.
Speaker 7 (56:46):
How does he do in Morgantown in year one?
Speaker 3 (56:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (56:48):
I like there over by the way, I think it's
four and a half. I think I like they're over.
I like that game of well that's a two for one,
two games in West Virginia for one at Ohio. I
think it's really cool that they did that. I would
love to see. I think Oklahoma's gonna be goo. Johnny
Meters the transfer from Washington State. He's now at Oklahoma.
I think Michigan's gonna have some big time growing pains
in year one with Bryce Underwood. I like them they
(57:10):
under I think it's like eight and a half. I
think of them under that, and I like that OEU
game a lot. I've not been to a game in
Norman either, so that that's an easy one.
Speaker 3 (57:18):
Morgantown to Athens is two hours and thirty five minutes.
Speaker 2 (57:21):
Yeah, just because there's not an easy way to get there,
crow flies, it would be nothing.
Speaker 3 (57:24):
I bet correct. Onward? Do we go to the following week?
Plenty of options here, gentlemen. I give you Wisconsin at Alabama,
Georgia at Tennessee, Florida at LSU, Texas A and m
at Notre Dame. Bill Benner, what are you taking or
are you going off the board on me?
Speaker 7 (57:42):
I'm not going to go off the board anymore. And
that was the only one, and it was selfish. But
Florida LS for you. I think Florida LSU early in
the season, depending on what LS she does. Did I
lose you?
Speaker 3 (57:54):
Now you're back. You're back, You're back.
Speaker 2 (57:56):
You're going to LSU at You're going to Georgia. I'm sorry,
Florida LSU. I think he was going Florida LSU. This
is what I Florida LSU, That's what I got, Okay, perfect.
I've been to that game. I was there when Tebow
went there in Baton Rouge. It was the loudest, as
loud as any CD I've ever been in. It's electric.
I love that one, but I've already seen that game
at its very peak. With Florida at LSU, I think
(58:17):
I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go Rocky Top. I'm gonna
go Georgia at Tennessee in week three, but it's it's tough.
I like the look at that Notre Dame game too,
but I'm gonna go Georgia at Tennessee. I'll take Georgia Tennessee.
Tennessee had the swap. Their quarterback went to Ucla, then
Ucla got the transfer I think from app State. Now
he's at Tennessee and Georgia. What does that look like
(58:40):
with all of those guys. So I'd like to go
to Rocky Top.
Speaker 3 (58:43):
For that one. Up next guys. The following week. The
week of September fifteenth through the twenty first, Florida at Miami,
Michigan at Nebraska at three point thirty on Paramount CBS.
Speaker 2 (59:00):
Let's see, I'll go Florida, gonna say yeah, I got
this one. I'm gonna go Florida at Miami. Beck they
should be undefeated at this point.
Speaker 3 (59:09):
Well, no, that I don't know that. Notre Dame game
is tough for them, but it's South Florida.
Speaker 2 (59:14):
It's except DJ Legway at Florida has a chance to
be a really special player the quarterback there.
Speaker 3 (59:20):
I go Florida at Miami. That's my game, Bill Bender.
Speaker 7 (59:22):
I'll go Michigan Nebraska Underwood Rail another road test for
the Wolverines early in the season, and we'll see if Nebraska,
if they can get that one, they're more for real.
So Bo and I are on different different flights so far.
Speaker 2 (59:37):
We'd really have it covered though, if we did this.
You know, if you United a college football show and
we did this, we'd really have it covered. You would
the following week, mister Bender, the decision is up to you.
LSU and old Miss Ohio State at Washington, Notre Dame
at Arkansas, Emma at Georgia, Oregon at Penn State at
night for a white out.
Speaker 3 (59:58):
What say you go on Bama Georgia.
Speaker 7 (01:00:00):
I'll keep that one short. So we can keep it moving.
You know, it was an awesome game last year. It's
consistently national title picture. Georgia hasn't lost at home at all.
I believe they have the longest nation's longest home winning streak.
Will stay there.
Speaker 2 (01:00:17):
I would have bet anything this is where we would
be doing the same. I'm going to Penn State. I
think a white out at Penn State is the best
environment in the entire sport Oregon going in there. Both
those teams should be undefeated at that point. Dante more
high profile recruit, local guy Drew Aller. If Drew can't
get it done, I don't know who's going to get
it done at Penn State.
Speaker 3 (01:00:36):
That's a big game. I'll go there. Fascinating that Bama
Georgia is that early awful. They moved it way out
in the season. Following week, the final week in September
into the first weekend in October. The Browns will be
in London. Your options, mister Bishop, are Miami at Florida State,
Texas at Florida, Wisconsin at Michigan.
Speaker 2 (01:00:59):
I'm going straight a Tennessee Street in Tallahassee, Old School, Miami,
Florida State. I thrived there just thrived. I haven't been
back since I left.
Speaker 3 (01:01:08):
I'd love to go.
Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
I don't know if that game will be great, but
i'd go to that one because at this point I've
already seen Florida and I'm not going.
Speaker 3 (01:01:14):
To the Big House for anything unless i'm paid. Bender.
Speaker 7 (01:01:18):
Yeah, I'm there too, and we haven't talk about that tomorrow.
That you guys is timing is impeccable, because tomorrow I
think we're running this piece of Sporting News about the
twenty five best rivalries in college football right now, not historically,
but right now, and as Bo will tell you, and
we have talked about this in the past, Miami Florida
(01:01:40):
Miami in Florida State's spot on that list is shocking
when you grew up and you're our and the three
of our age. Oh, like you're like, there's no way
that game used to be number one, But I still
would like to go see it this year. That'd be great.
Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
Yeah, uh up next Week six, because we're Week zero
was at the beginning, so this is tech thinklely. Week six.
Your options, mister Bender, Michigan at USC Oklahoma at Texas
for a three thirty star Texas. Yeah, same, so easy Oklahoma,
(01:02:13):
Texas been there, have done it before.
Speaker 7 (01:02:15):
Amazing, they split up the stadium. You can make the
argument that's the biggest game in the SEC right now.
Speaker 3 (01:02:22):
I'm I like ou.
Speaker 2 (01:02:23):
I think I think they're gonna be a little bit
A couple of times. It's like five and a half
or six is all. I don't think they're gonna be
win like ten games, but I think meters really good.
I think they'll be good. I'd love to go to
that game in Dallas.
Speaker 3 (01:02:36):
Week seven, we go and bo, you have the selection
here Tennessee at Alabama, Old Miss at Georgia, Washington at Michigan,
Ohio State at Wisconsin, USC at Notre Dame Early Mighty.
Georgia's schedules crazy, isn't it again?
Speaker 1 (01:02:53):
It is.
Speaker 3 (01:02:54):
I'd go to South Bend. I'd go see that team.
Speaker 4 (01:02:57):
Now this one.
Speaker 2 (01:02:58):
I'd want to see what the records were before I pay.
But right now I go to USC Notre Dame. Historic
rivalry i've never seen.
Speaker 3 (01:03:04):
I must win for their coach over there, he has
done at some point, he's got to win games. I
don't know if it'll be this year for Lincoln Riley,
but that's what I'd go to mister Bender.
Speaker 7 (01:03:14):
Rivalry's on the endangered species list too, with USC maybe
not renewing that, but so you better go now. Notre
Dame USC is the pick of those games. I like
one compromise. If they're going to try to move forward
is I said.
Speaker 4 (01:03:29):
If USC really.
Speaker 7 (01:03:30):
Tries to push that off the schedule, why not just
open the season with it? You know every year USC
Notre Dame. You could open the season, make a really
good tradition out of it. Not the same, but that's
what I'd do, Bill.
Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
You and I have talked about this a million times.
I've said it in the mornings in Central Ohio forever.
The Big Ten should just bully Notre Dame into joining CO.
Just say, USC is not playing you, Michigan's not playing you,
Ohio State's not playing you, produ'ce not playing you, michign
State's not playing you.
Speaker 3 (01:03:56):
None of them are playing you.
Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
So if you want to play the ACC, fine, If
you want to play the teams that are you have
traditional rivalries with, then you're gonna have to be in
this league.
Speaker 3 (01:04:07):
Uh up next Yeah? Up next week? Number eight mister Bender,
Texas A and m LSU Michigan Michigan State Kansas State, Kansas.
Speaker 7 (01:04:20):
I'm trying to get around and be fair. Michigan. Michigan
State would be the normal pick there. I think that
rivalry has gotten so nasty that it's taken away from it. Honestly,
all the off field stoffs and you know, the tunnel
fights and those things. So I'm going to penalize them
and go to Kansas State, Kansas instead and see if
Kansas can actually beat Kansas State. That is a fun
(01:04:41):
game to watch on TV, and I got to I
got to go to a couple of Big twelve games here,
so if I miss Farmageddon, I'm going there.
Speaker 3 (01:04:49):
Yeah. I love the pharma good and drop out of you.
Here's the other thing.
Speaker 2 (01:04:53):
If you go to Kansas Local Boy Darren Peterson, that
could be around midnight madness for the basketball team. So
maybe you get to watch a little bit of that
with Bill self and the boys. That should be right
around that time. I wouldn't be surprised if those two
things were linked up. Doesn't that seem like a natural
Bill do like Midnight manis Midnight at the Fog or
whatever on Friday night and then have Kansas State Kansas
on Saturday. That seems like that seems like how they
(01:05:13):
would roll that thing out. So I'm with you on
that one, Lawrence.
Speaker 3 (01:05:17):
Yeah, Week number nine, we go Bishop. You have Penn
State at Ohio State. Sure, it'll be a noon game.
Georgia and Florida. Yeah, it's gonna be new. Penn State,
ohioh State.
Speaker 2 (01:05:27):
It's gonna be new because they have the first three picks,
and Fox took all the Ohio State games, so that's
a great game. I'd have more fun at the Florida
Georgia game. Well, yeah, that's that's as much fun as
you can have in the sport. But no, I'm gonna
go to Columbus for Penn State, Ohio State, mister Bender.
Speaker 7 (01:05:44):
Penn State, Ohines State. And you know, one of the
things in that rivalry article I mentioned for tomorrow, Kirby's
kind of killing some of these rivalries because he's winning
too much. You know, Florida, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia Tech Georgia
fans aren't gonna be real happy with me tomorrow. I'll
just leave it at that.
Speaker 3 (01:06:04):
Up next guys, Week number ten, mister Bender, you get
to pick from LSU, Alabama, Washington, Wisconsin, or Navy at
Notre Dame.
Speaker 7 (01:06:15):
I'll go to l Subama and by the way, Michigan
Ohio State. The last ten years seven games where both
teams were ranked LSU Alabama eight. It's the only rivalry
where it's that. I think the actual game matches Ohio
State Michigan. This is the one and we'll see if
(01:06:36):
it stays that way without Nick Saban involved, But for
now it's there.
Speaker 3 (01:06:40):
I'm with you. I go here too.
Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
I think it's a monster season for both of the coaches.
Brian Kelly at LSU, he really hasn't won much. He's
won ten games, he won a Heisman Jayden Daniels as
but in terms of like they haven't even played like
a major bowl game since he's been at LSU, which
is pretty crazy. So he really needs to get going.
And then Klein to Bore year two at Bama. You
better start, We better start because he had a bad
(01:07:01):
loss last year at Oklahoma, so I think that game
would have.
Speaker 3 (01:07:05):
A lot of juice to it. Uh. Week number this
is week twelve, Week twelve, but technically week eleven.
Speaker 2 (01:07:12):
I guess you could say, well they go week zero,
So yeah, it's it's I think it.
Speaker 3 (01:07:16):
I think it's Week twelve. All right, Bishop, you get
to pick from Texas Georgia, Oklahoma, Alabama, or UCLA Ohio.
Speaker 2 (01:07:22):
Texas Georgia the only game in the country that might
have more talent than Texas Georgia, and it's arguable it's
Texas Ohio state.
Speaker 3 (01:07:29):
So yeah, that's a heavyweight tilt Texas Georgia. Mister Bender again, Yes,
it was awesome.
Speaker 7 (01:07:35):
They did it twice last year. Arch Manning versus Georgia
probably going to be a key piece of the puzzle
at that point. So that's where I'm going as well.
Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
The Calmn before the Storm the week before Thanksgiving Duke
North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Bill Bender from the Sporting News.
Speaker 7 (01:07:54):
Well, I gotta get one stop to see Bill Belichick.
So I'm going North Carolina, Duke here a little bit
of an upset, and uh, you know, one of my
college roommates lives down there, so I can visit him,
and I can go see Belichick and see how that's
working at North Carolina. And you know, the game, Like
you said, this is always that week where most of
the time the games are appetizers. Anyway, for rivalry week,
(01:08:17):
that's not a bad one to go.
Speaker 2 (01:08:18):
To seven and a half wins for him there. That's
the number I think he's under. I think the coverag's
pretty bare, Bill, and they weren't active in the portal either,
so I think that's trouble. I would go to Tennessee.
Florida is really fun. They really hate each other. I'd
go to games I've been a games with a long
time and go to Gainesville for that.
Speaker 3 (01:08:36):
One final week rivalry Week's Bill Bender.
Speaker 2 (01:08:40):
Pick one other than Ohio State Michigan, because I think we.
Speaker 3 (01:08:42):
Both would go to that one. Texas and Texas, UCLA,
USC Clemson, South Carolina, Florida State, Florida, Bama, Auburn.
Speaker 7 (01:08:51):
If there's one. So I've covered every Michigan Ohio State
game since Harball arrived essentially, so since twenty fifteen. I've
bend all those so and there's no substitute for it.
It is the best rivalry in college football. There's nothing
I you.
Speaker 3 (01:09:06):
Know, we don't.
Speaker 7 (01:09:07):
I'm preaching to the choir here, but if I have
to go experience something else, I'm going to Texas, Texas,
A and M I kind of want to feel it,
I kind of want to understand that. I do think
those two fan bases hate each other. The game was
intense last year. It is in Austin. I think over
the next ten years, if A and M can win
a couple it could really develop into the best, one
(01:09:28):
of the best. You know, consolation prizes to Ohio State
Michigan as the best rivalry in college football.
Speaker 2 (01:09:34):
It's I'm like you, I think that that when you
talk to folks down there, the amount that Texas A
and M hates Texas is crazy, crazy, So I think
that that would be palpable to just be a little
different here. I'm gonna go Clemson at South Carolina in Columbia.
Leonora Sellers, the quarterback at South Carolina, is a stud.
This is kind of dabbos. If he can do it,
(01:09:57):
it feels like it's got to be this year with
Club Nick, I think both those teams could be in
the mix for the for the playoff as well. So
I'm gonna go to Clemson at South Carolina. But I
think that that last weekends loaded obviously, gentlemen.
Speaker 3 (01:10:08):
I appreciate your time, Bill Benner, thank you as always.
Hey that drops tomorrow, Billy, when's that dropped tomorrow? Your Yeah,
that drops tomorrow.
Speaker 7 (01:10:15):
I'll share it with you guys tomorrow. You'll enjoy it.
There's some good tidbits in there. And hey, we got
I didn't know if we would get through all fourteen weeks.
You guys are always great talking to you.
Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
Oh hey, do me a favor. Release it before nine am.
Speaker 3 (01:10:28):
You do that? Funny.
Speaker 4 (01:10:31):
I think we can do that.
Speaker 3 (01:10:32):
Oh yeah, I know why.
Speaker 4 (01:10:33):
I know what you're got.
Speaker 3 (01:10:35):
You know I'll get I'll get it.
Speaker 2 (01:10:36):
It's the middle of summer, buddy, throw me, throw me
a bone. Let's see what we could do here. Good
talking to you about it?
Speaker 4 (01:10:42):
All right?
Speaker 3 (01:10:44):
There, he goes Bill Benner. The sport of us uh
joining us. It's so.
Speaker 2 (01:10:49):
There are certain times when what I do cross is over. Yes,
and I was about ready to send a break in
a different way than I should have sent a break because.
Speaker 3 (01:10:56):
Of kicksaving a beauty. Sometimes world's kali. It happens.

Speaker 3 (01:12:12):
Hello, Gibbe, Hi, Yeah, I got it. We have a
ton here. Uh, let's see h J Mac. We'll get
right to some of the questions on YouTube, and if
you get more, pass them along, buddy. Uh from the complainer,
all right, what is the most difficult DIY project you've
ever taken on?
Speaker 4 (01:12:36):
I've taken on.
Speaker 2 (01:12:38):
So I don't take on many, because I believe a
man's got to know his limitations one percent. Yeah, so
probably the most difficult thing.
Speaker 3 (01:12:50):
That I've taken on. My wife takes on all the
DIY projects. He does that. My brother in laws all
make fun of me. They're like, do you even know
what a hammer is? I was like yeah, I do
know my way around that, but right I don't have
I have no interest in learning anymore about those things.
Speaker 1 (01:13:06):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:13:07):
There's a great many things that my wife is completely
surprised that I'm able to do, because I think she
forgets I grew up where I did, and then I
had to do all of these things growing up. Probably
a difficult one. I had a drainage and I still do.
I have a drainage issue in the lawn that I've
tried to do myself a few times in terms of
where water is spilling off the driveway into the into
the lawn and I can't get it right, and I've
(01:13:29):
gotten like knee deep into it, and I just it's
I know it's not right, and there's a math component
to it in terms of the right angle to get
the drainage right, and I'm not laying the pione on it.
Speaker 3 (01:13:38):
Yeah. So that's anytime water's involved, most difficult. Do it yourself.
If water's involved. Top of the list from Lyle Miller.
How many times does Gibbe say correct on a typical show?
Speaker 2 (01:13:54):
And that's that's a fine Montana. Lyle's a fine Montana.
And I'm pretty sure that I'm pretty sure.
Speaker 3 (01:14:01):
Yeah, the price is wrong, incorrect, that is correct? That
was I want? What was it?
Speaker 4 (01:14:11):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:14:12):
It is Craig Killboard, who the kids don't even know
who he is. But at one point he hosted the
Late Late Show and he used to do five questions. Yeah,
and one of the what he would say he would
be like, that is correct, like when they got one right,
And he always started with geography.
Speaker 3 (01:14:24):
His social media is a fun follower. Oh the number
of great people that have hosted that show. Yeah, really talented. Yeah,
uh dog pound Cleveland Brown. Hypothetical question. Would you rather
give up one of next year's first round picks and
we get Joe Thomas at his prime for the next
four seasons only, or give up a third rounder next
(01:14:47):
year and we get a clean and responsible Josh Gordon
at his peak for five seasons? What was it gonna
make again?
Speaker 2 (01:14:55):
It's next year's one for half for four? Yeah, or
a third.
Speaker 3 (01:15:00):
Rounder for a clean and responsible Okay, Josh. Josh Gordon
was a lot in today's day in h he would
not have been in what he was in for a
different climate. With that type of thing, you would get
him for five seasons.
Speaker 2 (01:15:14):
I'm going to tell you right now there is the
list of human beings who I adore who played professional sports. Uh,
the Hoff is at the top. But this is just
weighted in a way that so next year I give
up a third, I still have two ones and I
get prime Josh Gordon for five years.
Speaker 3 (01:15:33):
And there's nothing to do with the best wider.
Speaker 2 (01:15:36):
Then that's the answer. That's the answer the Hoff. But
I mean, I mean, that's it's the question. The flaws
in the question should be a one. Then it's a tougher,
then it's a difficult conversation. Plus I'm getting five years
versus four. So it's just a value in terms of
of of that.
Speaker 3 (01:15:55):
Uh, let's see what Jaguar player does Prisco have it one.
That's what Brown's backers North Jersey said, I don't remember
what Prisco's number one player was.
Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
I assume it's Allen right stand by I had he
won the MVP, like, I would think that he's the one.
Speaker 3 (01:16:20):
MM, what if I had told you know, he's got
Miles two, he's got Allen four, Lamar one. Now, oh,
he's trying to do something that'll make people talk about
Lamar is sixth. Burrow is seven. By the way, Okay,
(01:16:41):
there's one quarterback you haven't guessed yet. Mahomes. He's got
him one. Yeah, okay, that's right. Number one is Mahomes.
Number two, Miles three, Saquon four, Allen five, Justin Jefferson six,
Lamar seven.
Speaker 2 (01:17:00):
Okay, I mean it's hard to I'm not going to besmirch.
Speaker 3 (01:17:04):
Mahomes. I mean kind of speaks for itself. But he's
not been a best form of late correct. Yeah, let's
see what else am I?
Speaker 2 (01:17:13):
You know what I stumbled into last night while watching
uh after the intermission, I watched the first period of
the hockey and then it was the intermission report, and
I flipped over to find a little program called Trading Places.
So when people tell me like, oh, you got to
get off cable, what do you I wouldn't have had
that that fun huh huh. I mean I showed up
right at the time with beaks is uh is pinching Winthorpe?
Speaker 3 (01:17:36):
I mean, how do you?
Speaker 2 (01:17:37):
I'm in now for twenty minutes I'm watching that.
Speaker 3 (01:17:40):
What a win? So come on? Still good? It holds
in like last year in Philly, Like you know, we're
on the bus early, we're on the Yeah, we're on
you know, the radio crew. We're on seven AM bus,
the girls all sleeping in his cozy confines for a
couple hours. At that point, I'm on a bout us.
(01:18:00):
We're head of the stadium. It's quiet because everybody's you know,
they're still waking up. You're getting your routine together for
what's coming when you get to the stadium there, because
it's a full day in Philly. Yep. Uh. We go
by the building, did you and I literally stand up.
I'm like, yes, that's it, right, that's it, and everybody's
(01:18:22):
looking at me. I'm like, none of you have and
they have no idea.
Speaker 2 (01:18:25):
These guys have seen the great Clay Weiss new You
guys haven't even seen trading places?
Speaker 3 (01:18:29):
Have you?
Speaker 4 (01:18:30):
Have you have?
Speaker 3 (01:18:31):
How who introduced you to that? Dad? Oh? Dad?
Speaker 4 (01:18:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:18:34):
Thank god? Did it hold up for you? It was funny? Yes?
I love Dannakroy. Blues Brothers is one of my favorites too,
Doctor J.
Speaker 2 (01:18:41):
Doctor J loves the Blues brother Has he seen trading places?
Speaker 5 (01:18:44):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:18:45):
No, no, no, Well it's on your to do list.
It's on your to do list. You're gonna have some
days off coming up. Maybe on the flight out west.
Speaker 2 (01:18:52):
There you go, well, make sure there's no kids around.
Speaker 3 (01:18:57):
Or do and then make it awkward. I lived for that. Uh,
mister fantastic. This is my final question for Top Gun.
Very sad that it's your final question. Uh, do you
think that Iceman should be on trial for not relinquishing
the shot to Maverick? He feels responsible to me? All right?
Speaker 2 (01:19:18):
So this is this is where this kind of ties
into the whole idea that that actually I think it's
the other one. Is it the it's the one at
the end, isn't it because he asked the he asked
the goose one last week how he wouldn't leave, and
that he got in the jet jetwash. I think it's
Iceman both times. Is the reality of it? I think
(01:19:39):
it's Ice both times. Fault lies, Yeah, that there should
be some fault.
Speaker 3 (01:19:43):
I'm gonna tell you this.
Speaker 2 (01:19:45):
Whoever, whoever asked this question, whatever happened back at Miramar
in eighty six or seven, whenever that was made, and
wherever they were at at the Top Gun at Navy
Wider Fighter Weapons School, whatever happened, it led to one
of the great one of the great final scenes between
(01:20:07):
two characters ever, when Maverick goes to visit him and
he's about ready to die at his house. So whatever
happened water under the bridge, baby, because you got the
great scene in Maverick.
Speaker 3 (01:20:19):
And the iceman saved his career. Yes, I don't know
how many times according to the movie, according.
Speaker 2 (01:20:24):
To now, but I do think he's got a point
that maybe Ice should have been looked into a little bit,
because maybe he was a little negligent too.
Speaker 3 (01:20:31):
Yeah, here's my fun note of the day. I stumbled
upon this and I didn't even tell these guys, I said,
I'm not saying anything to anybody. Okay, did you know
the Chitty Chase was the drummer in a band that
would later become Steely dannn No, how about that? I
(01:20:52):
did not know that. No, he was in a college
band with Donald Fagan and Walter Becker called the Leather Canary.
After Chevy left the band, the remaining two members formed
Steely Dan. No, I did not know. Just for the record,
I hate Steely Dan. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, now,
I did not know that. I didn't know he had.
(01:21:13):
I didn't either. You can keep your questions coming. Uh,
there are six What.
Speaker 2 (01:21:19):
Does that one mean? I just saw that, and I
don't know what that means. Na, what does that mean?
Speaker 3 (01:21:23):
Do you know what that means? John Brown? North American?
I believe, oh, North American. Team names shared across MLB, NHL, NFL,
and NBA. Can you name them? This is from Giants,
horn cl Fannin. It says Chi at the end, but
we're going to go fan in because it's yea Harold
fan all right?
Speaker 2 (01:21:43):
Uh, Giants, Cardinals, Cardinals in the NBA. No Cardinals in
football and baseball. Yeah, but no, he's using Major League Baseball, NHL, NFL,
and NBA. You can use any of the four leagues
(01:22:03):
to get two of them that had the same name.
Speaker 3 (01:22:06):
Okay, I was so I got like all six and
this was gonna oh no, no, no, no.
Speaker 4 (01:22:09):
No, no, no no.
Speaker 2 (01:22:11):
I think it's it's Giants, it's Cardinals. And then it
starts getting a little bit interest.
Speaker 3 (01:22:20):
Are the Eagle no not Tigers?
Speaker 2 (01:22:23):
Be helpful if you if you had Jets, Jets, good
job at you, keV Winnipeg Jets, New York Jets. It's
a very sound job of Panthers. Yes, Panthers, Florida, good
job at the My job here is done. Carolina and Florida.
Speaker 3 (01:22:44):
Are there two?
Speaker 4 (01:22:46):
All right?
Speaker 3 (01:22:46):
This is going to get a little tricky. Oh, there's
no two. There's not two Bulls, Kings, King, Lions. Who's
the other Lion other than de Who am I missing? Detroit?
And who? Oh? Never mind? La King, Sacramento, Ca job Bruck. Yeah,
(01:23:11):
crushing it. Thanks so fine. I don't think there's two.
Speaker 4 (01:23:17):
That sucks.
Speaker 3 (01:23:20):
Because it's black Hawks, so that doesn't work. Who are missing? Guys?
Speaker 2 (01:23:24):
Kings, Jets, Giants, Cardinals, Panthers.
Speaker 3 (01:23:26):
Who we missing? I'm looking through teams right now. That's
kind of cheating.
Speaker 7 (01:23:36):
Oh what?
Speaker 4 (01:23:37):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:23:38):
Rangers?
Speaker 7 (01:23:38):
Rangers?
Speaker 3 (01:23:39):
Yeah, Rangers? How is that cheating? I was doing the
same thing you were, I know, but I didn't acknowledge it.
Speaker 2 (01:23:45):
Nobody knew I was the kid in class who cheated,
and nobody knew you were the kid who got caught.
Speaker 3 (01:23:51):
Never got caught. Just so we're clear, and if the
boys are out there listening, never cheated ever? Yeah? Those
are it?
Speaker 2 (01:23:59):
King's Jet, Giants, Cardinals, Panthers, and Rangers.
Speaker 3 (01:24:03):
That's a good one, Bobby. A little rapid fire in
the final. How many ten year olds could you fight
at once? It's Bootsy's age.
Speaker 2 (01:24:15):
I mean, like if you were to detach humanity and
just to fight him, I think I could easily beat
upwards of thirty easy. I mean I had twenty of
them in basketball every night. I could have absolutely annihilated
them at any point. So I think thirty easy all right, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:24:36):
Hoody and the Blowfish or Blues Traveler Hoody all day,
although both of the I do love John Popper, They're
both great.
Speaker 2 (01:24:44):
I think that I saw I saw Darius Rucker perform
on the on the main deck of the Buckeye Cruise
for Cancer.
Speaker 3 (01:24:55):
Okay, and which was a crazy moment.
Speaker 2 (01:24:58):
It's a nice moment, but he so he's got obviously
all the hoodie songs, and he's got wagon Wheel, and
he's got his country songs. But then the other thing
that he did, and I never knew that he did this,
he annihilated Purple Rain, annihilated it. And I was like, wow,
I didn't know that he that that was like something
(01:25:19):
he covers, but he smoked it.
Speaker 3 (01:25:23):
So I've heard Purple Rain once when I've seen him,
and I've seen him a lot, and it was amazing.
But he does Mustang.
Speaker 2 (01:25:31):
Sally okay, and it's that's strong.
Speaker 3 (01:25:34):
You want to bring the house down. Yeah, that'll do it. Yeah,
it's it's on. When that song starts, it's yeah. So
do you know what?
Speaker 4 (01:25:42):
You know?
Speaker 2 (01:25:43):
How he how they got him on the Buckeye Cruise.
How they he wanted to play golf. He's a big golfer.
He wanted to play golf with Urban. So he and
Urban they flew. They flew him into the Bahamas. Was
a day at port or whatever. Flew into the Bahamas.
He and Urban played the Ocean Club on the other
end of the island, which was very nice. I actually
(01:26:03):
we played Royal Blue which was awesome, and but it
was down at the other end. He played Ocean Club
course with Urban and then did like a meet and
greet with everybody and then he put on it like
a forty five minute concert.
Speaker 3 (01:26:15):
Was unreal, great, really cool. That's pretty awesome. If you
could join any band in history, which would you join?
Speaker 2 (01:26:25):
H I feel like I feel like any band, any
rock band in the late sixties early seventies would be undefeated.
I think that would be good. You don't actually, you
know what, I'm gonna amend that. I think any like
rock band in the mid eighties, because sixties and seventies
you got. You gotta deal with a lot of heavy stuff.
(01:26:45):
You're coming out of Vietnam, you got some all sorts
of things, some many eighties. Like I think it's just like,
how could it be better than being in like being
in Motley Crue in nineteen eighty six.
Speaker 3 (01:26:55):
By the way, still going strong and still going, Like,
I think that might be. It might be mid eighties
like Motley Crue, Poisoned bon Jovi, one of those before
You imagine the look on their faces when they saw
Kurt Cobain and smells like teen spirit and they went,
oh god, it's over.
Speaker 2 (01:27:14):
It's such a great run, such a great run. We
were so carefree, unskinny bop. This guy's steeking about these
heavy We don't need this heavy stuff. Can't we just
live girls?
Speaker 4 (01:27:23):
Girls?
Speaker 3 (01:27:23):
Girls? Nope, nope, kids, Why we can't have nice things?
Speaker 4 (01:27:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:27:29):
Uh, if you could transform into any animal, what animal
would you transform into?
Speaker 2 (01:27:34):
It's easy, very easy eagle. And I hate birds, but
I feel like apex predator. Nobody's coming at you. Be
fun to fly, which is funny. Get worried about how
I hate them, but like I have respect for the
big ones. Yeah, and like I think golden eagle, bald eagles.
Speaker 3 (01:27:51):
Pretty. I mean, who's who's messing with you? Nothing? No,
no threat, Apex predator. If you had one million dollars,
would be the dumbest thing you would buy?
Speaker 2 (01:28:07):
I mean probably an automobile. I mean that would be
the most. I mean they depreciate immediately. In most instances,
they depreciate immediately. They're in large part frivolous.
Speaker 3 (01:28:17):
So yeah, probably that. I don't know if i'd buy it.
I take my crew on a excursion. That'd be fun,
and that would get where would you got? What golf trip?
Would you do? That's a great question. I mean, if
I can buy my way onto Augusta for the day,
you can't. But maybe I can't.
Speaker 2 (01:28:38):
Maybe I don't think that's enough. Bobby needs more like
a billion to buy your way onto Augusta. You got
to you need more like a billion. You could do here, though.
You could do the Pebble Beach one.
Speaker 3 (01:28:47):
I was thinking that was going to be the other one.
Speaker 2 (01:28:50):
The Saint Andrews one would be a lot of fun.
You have a soft spot for spotted cow. I believe
that's the beer you enjoy. You could do a whistling
straight Aaron Hills combo. It would be a lot of fun.
You could do a little bandon dunes Oregon one you
could do or you could do the ones in across
the pond, you do the old course and all that.
Speaker 3 (01:29:09):
