Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to the Official Coach Podcast on Jeffrey Gorman, JJ
Stakmitt is here.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Lara Olverton is here. I know we're coming off the
bye week, and it's always fun when you go, oh,
what did you do on your bye week?
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Maybe we'll get into that later because there's a game
kind of bigger fish to fry around here. And before
we start looking at the next four weeks of the
cold season, it is a one week at a time
season here. I will get into the Denver Broncos, but
I want to have a little fun with you guys
if you can double team on this one. Look at
me as a You guys are filmmakers, okay, and I'm
(00:36):
a big money coming out of my pockets Hollywood film producer,
and I want to make a great NFL film about
a team that has to win four straight games to
make the playoffs. There's nothing else you can't in this film.
You can't lose one. You have to win, right, you
know what I'm saying. So you have to win all four,
(00:56):
and not only that, you have to be the attention
of other teams around that league. I want you guys
to sell me and we're going to make this film
together and is that team the Indianapolis Colts four game
winning streak into the playoffs, the talk of the NFL, Lara,
give me your thoughts, Sell me on this, Why this
is the team that's going.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
To do that? Well.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
Part of it is just look at the schedule that
you have ahead. It's a very manageable schedule. Once you
get past Denver, that's going to be certainly your most
significant challenge to this point. The Colts really need some
of those kind of quality wins, if you will, like
the win they got over the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier in
this season. If this is this is what I was
talking to Matt Taylor about this this week. It's kind
(01:40):
of one of those what's there to prove situations? Right,
like the Colts can, should they be able to slay
the Denver Broncos and what they've been doing, especially from
an offensive standpoint this season. This solidifies that you can
put yourself in that conversation to be seriously considered, because
I think people want to poke holes in some of
the other ones. Oh well, you know they barely got
(02:00):
by New England and it was you know, last minute
went over the Jets or whatever. You know, whatever you're
kind of that's from the national standpoints what they're going
to try to do. My standpoint, win's a win and
two none more impressive because of the fashion in which
Anthony Richardson led you to victories in those situations. So
for me, yes, I think that that the Colts should
(02:22):
be atop the conversation. You build the screenplay around this one,
and your starring character is Anthony Richardson, because this is
really his time to shine, his opportunity to prove what
he can do on the road. Hostile environment. I remember
what was it before the Jets game. Everyone was asking him, well,
you know, what's the coldest environment that you've played in,
(02:42):
you know, coming from the SEC, and he's like, I
don't know. It was like thirty degrees when we played
Vandy one year and that type of thing.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
So he wasn't.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
He was very much so kind of downplaying, like playing
in the cold and all of that. Now forecast doesn't
look quite so bad for being in Denver, but going
to be way colder in New England then yeah, exactly.
So really situation off actors considered from that standpoint look good.
It's really just you know, how do you handle the
crowd noise there, you know what that atmosphere is going
to be like. But I do think that Anthony Richardson
(03:12):
leading this team to a victory in Denver would give
him a nod for you know, best lead character.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Is it all? Is it for their sake? It's not.
It's not all on Anthony. But if you're if you're
asking how the Colts can not only make a run, sure,
but then and be fair, be a team that I
don't really want to play them in the playoffs. It's
going to be because of five. That's what it's going
to be. He is the he has the talent to
be a guy who you don't want to face in
(03:40):
the playoffs. Now he's not there yet. He's twenty two
years old, is his second year as a starter. He's
just I think what thirteen starts the same amount he
had in college. Like this is he's got ways to
go for it. But if you're looking to make a
case for why, you say the Colts get in as
a wild card and they go on the road to
Buffalo or Pitts and those teams are like, really, it's
(04:03):
gonna be it. That's gonna be annoying to face this team,
it's gonna be because number five is like you know,
he can come out and make plays in the playoffs
with his legs, with his arm. That's what you're looking
at right there. The flip side of it, your defense
has to be better, Boom. You are not going to
be able to sustain the defense that you had played
for the first thirteen weeks of the season over the
(04:24):
course of this run. If you want to be feared
in the playoffs, Okay, you can make the playoffs, but
if you want to be a team that goes into
Buffalo and gives that team all they can handle, you
can't do what you've done against Buffalo earlier this year. Right,
You've got to be more buttoned up, Like Kenny Moore
the second talked about it. You know, you've got to
be more together on that side of the ball. You
(04:46):
got to make more plays. You can't allow as many
easy completions. I think the Colts have probably spent the
bye week trying to figure out some stuff to get
that defense tuned back up. And the buy comes at
a really good time where you have a lot of
games to self scout, you have a lot of tendencies
to self sk out, how do you kind of grow
off of those now going into Denver?
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Can I just piggyback really quickly with your your mention
of the Bills.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Was anyone else super irritated that we got the other
game instead of like we get one day, we get
one signs, Sparers Niners, we get one Sunday afternoon to
sit around and watch games, and you like, give me
the option, somebody let me go over to that game.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
I don't have red zone because you right.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Have domes every Sunday.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Exactly, so you're not able to take avantage of it.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
So the one situation in which I like went and
got ale Emporium, you know, herman shouts to Hermanaki Wings
and you know, I'm saddled up to watch a little
late Sunday afternoon football, and this is what.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
She got done of a Bear's forty nine ers game.
And instead, you know, it's like being at you know,
like some like lame party where you know, this other
party that you didn't get invited to. There's having a
lot of fun over there, like turning tuning into stuff
and like being like, oh, but you know Bill's rams
Game of the Year.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
And they're doing the game breaks, so you know enough
to be jealous, right.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Yeah, you gotta have valid at this point.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
A sorry, and that was my grievance with the TV
network schedule or whether you're.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Bellied up to the bar or on your couch, you
should be able to watch whatever. Well, but I know
there as you can, you can, but you're we're not.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
We're not. You're tied up on Sundays. You're I get
I'm not. I'm not paying for the extra package because
I'm at the games and like the folks in my
household are going to watch the Colts.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Yeah, okay, it's drastic, and then we'll move out to
the Denver Broncos. Defensively, speaking with this same film script,
we're talking about need to find the team four straight
wins and stuff. What's the difference. Here's what's the difference
from where they've been with this Guss Bradley defense. To
be in that team that people are going to fear
and going on a four game run.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Defensively, it's going to start with DeForest Buckner continuing to
be just awesome. Like I think it's been kind of
quiet how good of a season he's having because he
missed some time. You know that the Colts defense statistically
as a group is not near the top of the league.
But Buck is having another awesome season, Like he is
wrecking stuff in the middle against the run, against the pass.
(07:07):
I think it's going to start with him continuing to
take games over, take moments over in these games, and
then I think you want to see more out of
Layatu Latu. You look at some of his underlying numbers,
like his past rush win rate and it's pretty good.
I think it's the highest on the Colts. More more
growth from him coming out of the BI Can he
make more of an impact. You're getting, you know, decent
(07:29):
production out of guys like Quidy Pey and Dio Dangbou,
you get Taekwon Lewis back. I think it's that D
line that's got to be the engine. That's what this
team was built around. That. So this defense was built around,
was the defensive line being a group that you can
have lead victories on that side of the ball. That's
what I do these last tea.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Yeah, question, guys, is alearro with you is when we're
talking about defensively speaking with the Colts and not not
looking down the line on this, but we are we're
going into the Denver Bronco game.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Now, excuse me, but like.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
The talent level of the next four weeks as far
as offense is speaking, is this the biggest concern of
you guys defensively speaking, as far as facing a passing offense,
because you're talking about Jacksonville, you're talking about the Titans,
and of course you're talking about the Giants on the
other three, is this rookie bow Knicks the biggest one
that we should fear when it comes to Hey, we
(08:23):
need to button up our defensive backfield, we need to
slow this kid down, and more importantly, we need to
get turnovers.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
Well, I think it's not just you know, what he's
done of late, it's how consistently he's been playing.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
You know, like the entirety of the season.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
He hasn't gone through what you tend to sometimes see
from rookies where it's a little bit of a roller
coaster for the quarterbacks that you face. He's by far
been the most consistent, right, I mean I think that's
a factor.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
He started every game. The next three teams have ed
guys in and out.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Yeah, sorry, yeah, started every game.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
But then also just like you know, really good levels
of production, which that's a credit to the group he
has around him, the way that he uses the weapons.
They are game plan to put him in a position
to succeed. So he's somewhat a very unrookie like type
of quarterback.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Makes sense because he's what twenty four years old, twenty five,
He's played a ton of college football.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
Sixty sixty college games, sixty one college games.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
That's kind of what you would expect, right and like
hope to get. And the Broncos are absolutely getting like
the upper bound to what you hope to get out
of bon Nicks as a rookie. I think it goes
to Sean Payton. The job he's done there has been fantastic. Obviously,
the offensive line is really good. They've got, you know,
a couple of playmakers and receiver Courtland Someton's are really good.
Play big receivers too, but yeah, big guys, big targets.
Lately though, that offense has been pretty tuned up. They
(09:35):
have been really good. I think over the last four
games their top ten in scoring, their top half of
the league in a lot of metrics like yards per play,
EPA per play, stuff like that. So they they're starting
to hit that ascent that you want to see out
of a team late in a season. And then, oh,
by the way, like their defense might be the best
in the NFL. I think it's like them and the
Eagles are like right there best in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
What they're allowing only about eighteen points per game on average.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Like this defense they are. They smother you on you know,
they don't allow anything on the ground. They don't allow
anything through the air. Nick Benito's second in the NFL
in sacks and he's got eleven. Jonathan Cooper's got eight sacks.
Their interior is awesome. Jonah Ellis or not, excuse me not,
Joan Ellis. Zach Allen is a really good player. John
(10:23):
Ellis is also a really good players. And then yeah,
by the way, you just have probably the best cornerback
in the NFL in Pat Certan. And if you look
at his numbers, teams don't throw at him. He's only
been targeted thirty six times.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
I saw that stat. This is this is not good.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
I mean not not. I'm not saying it's good right here.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
But this defense is this defense, and we're gonna find
out more. This defense is for real, like, like you
just said, a no name. I don't want to call
him no name with the certains back there and stuff
like this, But like you said, that's the thing, people forget.
This defense of the Broncos is for real. Our second
year quarterback is going to be facing not only the fans,
not only the elements, but a stick good defense out
there on.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
Their home vance. Joseph has done a great job there.
They're aggressive, they send seven man pressures quite a bit.
They they do funky stuff to get guys like Nick
Benito in situations that they can make an impact rushing
the passer. It's a really really like Denver when you
watch them, they're just a really well coached team across
the board. And I mean, like you mentioned, like their
(11:22):
their defense, Like Nick Benito is not a household name.
Jonathan Cooper, Zach Allen, these guys are not. You're like
Bradley when they had Bradley Chubb, right, that's a household name.
They ship him off to Miami and their defensive line
gets better. Because I think they're just really well coached.
They've got I mean, certainly guys with talent. Nick Benito
is a second round pick, but they're coaching them well,
they're developing them well, and I mean Denver absolutely by
(11:43):
the way, they're outperforming expectations this year. This is a
team that I think a lot of people looked at
them and said, maybe they'll maybe they'll sort of be
in the mix, But like, is bo Nicks really the answer?
What real talent do they have? On offense? They were
talking about trading Courtland Sutton, they traded Jerry Judy to
the Brown season. You know that they don't have a
ton of like superstar level players across this whole team,
(12:07):
maybe outside of Certatan, but guess what, they got a
superstar head coach. I think they got a superstar defensive
coordinator in Vance Joseph. And you're seeing this whole team,
like the sum of the parts being just really really good.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
And I think one of the reasons that they were
really overlooked is just because of the division that they're in, right,
I mean, that's part of the reason that they were
and to their benefit, I think that that's worked for
them so far this season. But when you're there with
the Chiefs and the Chargers, you kind of are going
to be, you know, the the not the last to
be thought of. But you're you're gonna be in that
secondary conversation because all the focus is gonna.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
Go on like can the Chiefs do it again? Right?
Speaker 4 (12:44):
And then the expectations with Harbaugh, you know, going to
LA and they.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Haven't made the playoffs since twenty fifteen, and wow, I
think about that, that's the second longest playoff drought. And
you think about like everything that's happened since Peyton Manning retired,
and they have cycled through coaches, they've cycled through quarterbacks.
They traded a bunch for Russell Wilson and then they
ship him off and they take this huge dead cap hit,
but they go get Sean Payton and it works.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
Guys, we're up at Westfield, it's July, it's whatever you
want to say. It's in that era and we talk
about who are the seven teams, eight teams, nine teams
that are gonna make the playoffs? That game we always
play in this stinking offense in the offseason.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
Denver was not up there for me. And that's no.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
Disrespect to the fan base or the football team. You
guys are are going way above and beyond, especially with
the rookie quarterback like that. But I was not talking
about Denver in the mix with four games to go
with a playoff run in front of us.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
So you guys are both absolutely right.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
You bring a guy like Sean Payton and I'm just asking,
do you believe that if Sean Payton had the number
one draft pick in the NFL draft this past spring,
that he would have taken Bo Nick?
Speaker 3 (13:49):
Oh? Caleb Williams.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
Right, Caleb Williams was kind of far and away the
number one guy forever when you.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
Talk to gms and scouts like across the league, that
was the guy.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Like and I know like Drake May, Jade and Daniels
and Bo Knicks have been better this year, but like,
let's give it some time. Let's not. Let's not the
cement has not dried on this draft class at all.
Let's let's give it a little bit of time.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
I would be really interested to go back and like, see,
did anyone you know, prior to the draft, would anyone
have said they'd gone a different direction? You know?
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Was there anyone you would go on record saying that
Nate Tyson, who's I think had Drake May ahead of
Caleb Williams. Oh, it's like a real player, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
Oh, we're talking about that last week for sure, But
at the time, Yeah, I think everyone kind of would have.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
Yeah, I think I think the consensus largely was Caleb
and I think I think if you, if you, you know,
give him some truth serum, I think most people would
probably I've seen even if you're happy with bo Knicks
right now.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
I'll just give my bonex. I saw two throws of
him when he was the last year that he played.
I saw two throws of him where he's running outside
the hash if you will, to the right side and
threw completely across the field and a rope.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
For a completion. Those sort of throws you go, well,
not many can make that throw.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
This kid's gonna be good this upstairs, because he obviously
has the armtail.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
Heck, even in the preseason when we saw him here
at Lucas oyl Ctity and what was he fifteen of
twenty one over one hundred yards passing with a touchdown.
I mean, and yeah, it's it's preseason, and then it's
you know, it's watered down and you know you're not
showing everything, but.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Still it's a decent little look, you.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
Know, when you're talking about a guy who's playing his
first in a like also, I.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Mean think about too, like you were talking about the
Broncos being overlooked. I pulled up bow nicks game blog
this year, and the first four weeks of the season
not very good. No, like, you know, he's a rookie adjusting,
but it's sort of like, okay, he you know, they
lose in ugly fashion to the Steelers. They win that
ten to nine game over the Jets where he throws
for sixty yards, and it's like, okay, is bo Nick's
(15:41):
really the answer? This is a good lesson in not
not making evaluations off h yes first four games of
a guy's career, because lately, I mean, you look at
this game he had against Atlanta where he went twenty
eight of thirty three. That's eighty five percent for three
oh seven and four touchdowns. Yeah, well, like okay, okay,
that's pretty good. And then goes out against the Raiders
(16:01):
he completes almost sixty percent of his passes, so that's
down a little bit, two touchdowns, no picks. And then
this game he had against the Browns that was fun.
That was like Chuck and Duck. I didn't know bo
Nicks had that in him.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
I didn't know Jameis Winston had that in him. Well,
I mean like, guys, no, you're talking about Jerry Judy.
I mean he was that. That was fun watching those
offenses go back.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
It was like the most Jamis Winston game poss YEA
for five hundred yards and two pick sixes. So that
game was awesome. But bo Nicks like that, what was
that the ninety three yard touchdown? He had the mims
where It's like, well, I didn't know we had that
ability in him. That was that was okay?
Speaker 3 (16:34):
Bananas? Yeah, yeah, I remember going back and watching that one.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
Because I just start miss. I really hadn't watched him,
you know. I watched the a little bit of that
game they had on Thursday night against the Saints, which
is another ugly game. They won it thirty three to ten,
but he only threw for one hundred and sixty four
yards in touchdowns point with thirty three points on one
hundred and sixty four yards, no touchdowns, no picks, sixteen
to twenty six. And I was like, yeah, all right,
and then you come back to that game on Monday
(16:59):
night and I'm watching Bonick being like, this kid's got he's
got some moxie to him, like he's pushing the ball
against a really good Browns defense. That I came away
really impressed with Bonix and that.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
Game in the last three games which the Broncos go
into this one having won the last three bo Nicks
three for three hundred and seven yards, two hundred and
seventy three and two hundred and ninety four year.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
Okay, so he's helming just like you said. I love
that thing that both of you guys agreed on. Don't
ever judge anybody in their first four games, especially a
quarterback in the NF.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Don't ever judge anyone in their first like year or two.
You can't make sweeping conclusions about guys.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
On one side, I love that you're bringing up the
stats and what we saw early from bow Knicks to
where we are. Let's flip the switch to number five.
We opened this podcast with him. I went to bank
the Colts Audio Network listeners out there as well as
all the YouTube viewers. Anthony Richardson, Guys, he's from Matt Taylor,
and you know Matt Taylor's vault of stats and stuff.
But yes, I just want to get your your thoughts
on this because We are basing this show based on
(17:53):
we need to win out, you know what I mean.
I know it's a one week you know, one game
a week season. We can't look ahead, but for this
show's purposes we do so. Anthony Richardson, is this straw
that's gonna start the drinker? And I know it takes
more than just one man here, but some Colts passing
games deficiencies that maytay.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Brought up three and three.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
This team is when completing twelve or fewer passes this
season again, three and three this season, when completing twelve
or fewer passes this season, four and three on the
season when they throw for less than two hundred yards
this Colts offense. Okay, my question to you is we're
talking about a four game run that has to change
or that.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Can stay consistently. Right, here's based on a running game. Here.
Here's my take is, what if the Colts make a
run here, what it looks like is gonna be kind
of disorienting. I don't think you can look at priors.
I don't think you can look at you know, they
got to hit this mark in terms of passing. It's
probably gonna look kind of weird. It's probably gonna be
(18:48):
a lot of Anthony Richardson running the football and establishing
it that way, and you know, hopefully you get some
efficiency and not as many interceptions and turnovers. But I
just think it's gonna look kind of weird and we
might get to the end of the Anthony Richardson is
playing in the playoffs with the sub fifty percent completion
percentage as possible, that is absolutely possible. The way this
team can lean into their run game. You gotta get
(19:10):
Jonathan Taylor going on the other part of that more.
You can't just rely on Anthony Richardson. But we have
seen over the last three weeks the kind of weapon
Anthony Richardson is with the ball in his hands, and
that's something I would expect Shane Stychen to lean into
over these final four games as you're trying to make
a push.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Larra concerns about that those stats that we run off
because we on bo Nicks on the one side and
Anthony on the other. But this team's fighting a way
to win. JJ's right, lean on the Jonathan Taylor in
the run game.
Speaker 4 (19:35):
Yeah, it's not overly concerning, because you know, it's kind
of like, don't judge you know, Bo Nicks on those
first four games. Don't judge Anthony just on the last three.
You know, Like, I think that this is finally where
you have seen him establish, like I don't want to say,
like a level of comfortability, because I think he's always
had that, but now being able to be back having
consecutive weeks taking the starting reps, you know, being back
(19:58):
in that role, now you're starting to see those situations
like when he goes to Alec Pierce, you know at
New England, where you're finding that level of uh.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
Maybe like consistency, productivity.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
The trust is being built there now that they've had
a few weeks, you know, back with this whole offense,
roll and move in together. And I think that this
has reinforced how much belief there is in Anthony Richardson.
I think that you're seeing how much this offense, you know,
has confidence in him, has conviction in him to put
him in certain positions or to trust him in certain positions.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
So I think that.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
He's really feeding off of that going into this week.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
Guys, health wise, everything is important this time of year,
and coming off the bye week, let me start with you, JJ,
where are we at health wise. Obviously, Josh Jllens will
be coming back, should be a full go this week,
not gon Wood, but.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
Let's go across the board. We don't know that yet. Yeah,
that's true. That's me doing well.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
No more on Wednesday, Yes, but we'll know more Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
What do you guys think health wise? We're talking like
we can start on the offensive if you're there. But
I think overall, in my opinion, unless you guys proved
me wrong, we're sitting pretty good off health life.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Speaking, Yeah, it would be big to get Ryan Kelly
back this week, that this is the earliest he can
come back off of IR. Getting a veteran in I
think for that environment in Denver, if he's able to play,
that could be really important because that like watching that
Monday night came, that place is juiced up. They have
not had a winner in a long time. Denver's a
great football town. That place looks like a real tough
(21:28):
place to go into and it has nothing to do
with the altitude. It's the crowd. Getting Ryan Kelly for
that I think would be big.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
But from the injury standpoint, to you guys, you mentioned
Josh downs Ryan Kelly from the defensive standpoint, what do
you think outlook for Jalen Carlis or Juju Brant or
two brands those guys are because Shane talked about them
just briefly, just kind of making good progress. But they
were people who were mentioned right before me right right
(21:54):
was that right before the buyer right for the New
England game camera.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
Both of those guys were. It wasn't season ending when
they were not, I are there was a chance both
either or both could come back. So maybe with the
bye week, maybe maybe it's not just Brian Kelly getting
activated to return to practice that I don't know that
I'm guessing. I think, like you, I'm trying to speak
that into existence here, possibility, but getting Carliz back would
(22:19):
be would be a real nice boost for the linebacker room.
And then getting Juju Brentz back, if you're able to
get him at all this year, that would be a real,
real nice little lift for the cornerback room. Just getting
those guys back for depth. At this point, the thing is,
I don't know if either of them are gonna just
pop right back into the starting lineup. Because you've got
decent play out of Grant Steward, right, You've got decent
(22:41):
play out of Sam Womack. I don't know if you're
just gonna say, all right, hey, these two guys are
going to pop back into the starting jobs they were
in prior, but at the very least having those guys
there for depth would be really important.
Speaker 4 (22:52):
It's just the factor of having everything at your disposal
right exactly, having as many assets and as many weapons
at your disposal for when you need them.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
You know, hey, uh, before we get into the JJ
krnacky portion of this thing where we look at at uh,
we're going to be scoreboard watching colts know what, Colts fans,
you just have to you win, you're in you know
what I mean, that sort of thing.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
But people like us scoreboard watch.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
But like, like going into this final four games of
this season, you know what that locker rooms you.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
Spend time in there.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
The veterans that that you think outside of DeForest that
could make an impact on that locker room to say,
I've been in.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
The league for a few years, here's what we're looking at.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Not to hear that from the head coach or the GM,
but to hear that from a veteran, who.
Speaker 4 (23:36):
Is that guy one of the go ahead do you
got one, say, Sire Franklin, I think certainly one of
them Quentin Nelson Yeah too.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
For me, I think it's a lot of guys who
are like Buck Aside, who are on that twenty eighteen team.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
And I just think in general, like CU's a guy
who I don't think is hyper vocal.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
He you know, he uses his word selectively right, like
it's meaningful, like Win.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
He talk what he says, and he does a lot
of lead by example, And I think for this offense
he's certainly one of those integral pieces in terms of
setting that tone I think you have. You know, you
look to those guys defensively. There are not a lot
of names you could toss around. You probably throw Kenny
Moore into that conversation too, along with you know, Buck
and Z. And I think we're going to look to
the offense for Q and the role he plays. And
(24:23):
this is something I talked to him about on COLT
three sixty this week, was what do you have to
do to put Anthony in a position to be successful
in an environment like Denver? And he just talked about,
you know, the communication and harping all the details and
doing things over the course of the week. So my
thinking is those are things that they're going to be integrating,
you know, every single day building up to this. And
(24:44):
I think he is going to be central too, because
we've got to wait to see what happens at center, right,
if Ryan is back, you know, if it's is it Danny?
You know, where is Tanner Bordolini at this point? So
I do do look to Quentin's role. It's always significant.
I think this week in particularly.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
And I think you know, his leadership in that room
will be big for any young guy who might need
to play in that game right where, Hey, you know,
this is a tough place to play. They are gonna
come at you. Like I was talking about with the
edge guys Benito and Cooper, those guys are gonna come
at you in this game. It's gonna be loud, it's
gonna be tough. The other guy who I also think
(25:22):
could be a bit of a help just thinking about it,
is Bernard Ryman. Oh yeah, I remember that first start
he had in the NFL was that Thursday night game
in Denver where it was rough.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
That was his first start.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
That was his first start, and it was it was rough.
He got he got beat quite a bit in that
game redemption time. But well, but the thing with Bernie
is that he came back off of that and he
never flinched. Like, remember what this is? Back in training camp,
Quentin Nelson said that game like, I think I don't
remember exactly what it was, but it was essentially like
(25:54):
do we take Bernie out? Do we keep him in?
And Bernie's like, no, I want to keep playing, and
C's like, all right, I can play next to this
guy like he is in it. He is you know,
you're trying to just keep your head above water, but
he wants to keep competing, he wants to keep fighting.
I think that's a good lesson for anyone in this game,
anyone on this team. Hey, if we're having a little
bit of an issue in this game with the environment,
fight through it. Fight through it like Bernie did two
(26:16):
years ago, and you will come out better for it
on the other side anymore.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
Kenny Moore one of those guys. Yeah, we're in a position,
guys where we hold our own future right in our hands,
and we all know around here how stinking tough it
is to make the playoffs in the NFL. If you're
a Colts fan, I just hope those guys are stepping up.
I was just curious what you thought. We're gonna find
out a whole lot more from Shane Stiken come Wednesday.
It's in a few hours from now, twenty four to
twenty eight, thirty two hours from now, whatever it is.
(26:41):
Plus get a practice under the belt, and it's all good.
But like I said earlier, we're gonna be doing some
scoreboard watching and JJ, if you could start with this
really quick. No help from Cincinnati last night, Well, actually,
no help from Dallas last night, if really long, Wait
a second, I wanted Dallas, who spit the ball up
late and obviously gave it back to Burrow.
Speaker 2 (27:01):
I just wanted Cincinnati out of the pick.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
Oh on a special team's gaff.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
Okay, here's the thing. If the Colts take care of
their business, the Bengals don't matter. Okay, the Bengals. If
the Colts take care of their business, the Bengals cannot
be ahead of the Cults. Okay, there is not a
scenario in which the Colts go nine and eight or
ten and seven and the Bengals finish ahead of them.
But the Bengals can help the Colts out if the
Colts have to go down that break glass in case
(27:25):
of emergency nine and eight path. Yeah, if say, okay,
say this is how it turns out, the Colts, the Broncos,
and the Bengals all are nine and eight to end
the season, Colts make the playoffs. But if it's just
Colts and Broncos and the Colts lose to the Broncos,
obviously Denver makes you introduced that third team, and the
Colts win every three way tiebreaker at nine and eight
(27:48):
or ten and seven, It doesn't matter what teams are
in it, they win every single tie breaker.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
Really, okay, encouraging I like that.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
I just thought, well, Cincinnati, I kind of put my
foot on your throat there.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
I take it back. I mean, also, I would rather
the Bengals have something to play for when they host
the Broncos in week seventeen. Yeah, because if the Colts
beat Denver, they still need Denver to lose one more time,
and you go to Cincinnati and the Bengals are trying
to make a little push here at the end.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
Who who do the Broncos have the last game of
the season, if it comes down.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
To something like that, is the City Chiefs who will.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
Not be playing quarterback for the Chiefs that day in
your opinion, if everything's all sowed and tied up there
in Kansas City.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
Oh, you think the rest of homes.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
I think Carson, Carson Wentz, Carson Wentz.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Thing, Carson Wentz. We need, you want him to redeem
him side.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
We need to get behind Carson Wentz potentially in week
eighteen to up end the Broncos. And I mean, I'm
just saying the possibility.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
Let's let's not, let's not. Let's worry about that when
we get.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
That's right way ahead of myself.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Yes, you do want the Chiefs playing for something in
week eighteen, Yeah, if the Broncos hadn't lost by then.
But the other thing is the pat There are a
lot of different paths the Colts can go down if
they beat Denver. The easiest one is you just be
one game better than the Broncos down the stretch and
make the playoffs. Another one is you are two games
better than the Chargers or the Ravens down the stretch.
(29:09):
And then the other one is your three games better
than the Texans, Yeah, to make the playoffs. So there
are paths. They're difficult, they're tough to navigate, but they
exist and it isn't all just about Denver.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
We mentioned Kenny Moore the second and they're kind of
conversation about you know, those who can draw upon the experience,
those are the voices in the locker room. How about
Kenny Moore the team's nominee for the Walter Payton of
the Year now the second time for Kenny Moore's debserve
so well deserved for Kenny. We were able to surprise
him with the announcement that video went out he's been doing.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
It was great. By the way way that I was
in the car with my wife were running errands during
the bye week, and she started watching it and she
was like, I was expecting to cry at this.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
That was kind of the our overwhelming like reaction being there.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
And he has been doing a lot of work with
Cardinal Ritter High School this year and so went to
Cardial order to help to have their student body, help
surprise Kenny and do some things.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
But just a little bit of perspective.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
There are the off days the Tuesday, which are typically
the player off days. I've been doing some things and
I have seen Kenny go from doing community events from
eight nine in the morning till seven o'clock at night
and going around to different he's a Cardinal Ritter, and
then he's out at you know, another organization, and then
(30:32):
he was you know, one morning he was volunteering providing
coats and shoes to young kids, and then he was
at Cardinal Ritter, and then he was doing another event,
and then he was a I mean, it's just been
non stop. His commitment is just so admirable. And you
can just tell here's one thing about Kenny.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
He's so invested.
Speaker 4 (30:51):
He's so authentic, and it's so much about the connections
that he makes, in particular with these kids. A lot
of his work is impacting the youth around Central Indiana.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
It's just like beyond.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
The thing I respect so much about Kenny is that
it's one thing to give money, and money helps. Money
absolutely helps, right, It's another thing to show up and
showing up and giving a talk that helps, and then
it's another thing to give money to show up and
then to form those authentic connections with the people who
you're you're around like that that right there, That's why
(31:23):
Kenny is such a like a bright light in this community.
It's not just because he donates his money and he
donates his time. It's that he he understands the value
of those relationships and those relationships help him too. Like
he's not just doing it because it's like, hey, this
kid needs help, It's like he genuinely wants those and
you know, he's such a an authentic person and nothing
(31:46):
Kenny Moore than Second does is fake at all at all,
And that part of it is just so cool to
see and like to be around it, like you know,
you and I are lera and to kind of you know,
witness it from you know, a distance sometimes is like
man like he's he is such a pillar in this
community in a way that is so genuine to who
(32:07):
he is. And it's so rewarding, I think for everyone
in this organization to see the kind of impact that
Kenny is making. And then you know, this honor that
he got, he gets the Walter Payton Man of the
Air for the second time is so well deserved, such
an honor for him, and you know, you just like
one of those guys. You just couldn't be happier for.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
Anybody who buys Maamba House Surprises in that video you
want to talk about tear Jerker.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Look that one up.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
Kenny Moore surprising his mom with a house from a
few years back. Congratulations two three. You are great on
the field and you're great off the field, obviously in
a couple of big fans in JJ and Lera as well. Guys,
this has been a good one. I know we're getting
down to it right here. Anything notes, any notes you
guys want to mention before I go into some college
football angles that are coming up in the state.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
So all right, I want to put a cap on
this Broncos game because Denver is a really good team.
I think Denver is a really, really good football team.
But the Colts have an opportunity coming out of the
bye week to raise the raise some of their issues
and turn though not maybe turn them into strengths, but
(33:18):
turn them from being weaknesses to just things you can
you can live with, you can win with. And then
the stuff that you can win with right now has
to become a strength. You've got to have your your
quarterback be a strength. You've got to have, you know,
keep having your offensive line be a strength. Your run
game needs to be a strength. The other thing is,
I hope you know we're talking about health I wonder
(33:39):
how much the bye weekend up with guy like Michael
Pittman JUNR. So it's been his way through this back
injury for two months now, can that help him out?
And you know, can he come down the stretch and
make a big impact. There's a lot of opportunity here.
And just because the Broncos look like they might be
a tier or two better than the Colts right now,
does not mean that we are going to end the
(33:59):
season with that being set like that. This is a
huge opportunity. And then the other part of it that
I just I want to emphasize this game, whatever happens
in it is going to benefit Anthony Richardson. It is
going to benefit him over the course of his career
to play in a game like this and hopefully the
Colts win and hopefully he gets to play in a
playoff game. But regardless this game and the experience he's
(34:23):
going to get in an incredibly hostile environment in Denver
against a really freaking good football team, he will grow
from it. He will be better from the big regardless
of what happened.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
The biggest steaks on the table for his career or
this game, I mean, this is this is the biggest
game of his career. This is playoff implication.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
Talking porterhouse Steak, that's how big the stakes.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
Maybe little bon and ribi, Yeah we're not. We're not.
We're not talking. Yeah, we're not. We're not yet to
the tomahawk. Yeah, that's the one. That's the one you
get when that's when you start making it in another
the playoffs. To get the tomahawk, that's a bigger You.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
Got to follow these two on Twitter x at larra Oulverton,
at JJ Steakovitz, and of course on Colts dot com.
The latest is coming at you every day if you're
a Colts fan, even if you're not, it will be
there Wednesday. It starts the boys are on the practice
field and this march to the playoffs. It's like no
other situation in sports in my opinion, That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
We know what it is. It's win and you're in.
Speaker 1 (35:13):
And by the way, if this team finds a way
to win four in a row, this city is going
to be nuts come around playoff time and we're gonna
need something like that because it's gonna be snowy, it's
gonna be cold, the team's.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
Gonna be on the road.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
It looks like I mean, perhaps for a thing, I'm
just saying the buzz around the city the next four weeks,
Colts fans get fired up, start tailgating now even for
next week's game against It doesn't matter. I'm saying, this
is the big stuff. This is the NFL, the biggest
show in town, and the Colts have an ability to
be the talk of the NFL with a nice stretch
and people are gonna say, oh, well.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Week schedule from here on. I don't care.
Speaker 1 (35:47):
Bill Belichick said it best. You'll want to be playing
your toughest football and your best football after Thanksgiving and
the you know, the situation is set for that. So guys,
great job for that today. Obviously, again, Colts dot com
has all the latest at Twitter X at learra Overton,
at JJ Steak. It's we also have some other football
that they play on Saturday usually around here in this state.
(36:08):
But I want to know both of your you've guys
got ties to both of these. In my opinion, the
college football playoff game, if you look at the big board,
the biggest and best game on that board, JJ, we
talked about it is Notre Dame in Indiana you covered
that program for a few years down in Notre Dame,
you know, South Ben.
Speaker 3 (36:23):
Also, the toughest ticket to get your face.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
Is on the walls of Indiana University. So I'm saying, like,
this is good for me, streight, little Notre Dame field,
little thing. It's the best game on that CFP argue
with me on that. And I'm saying, like, what are
the stakes for both teams?
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Here?
Speaker 1 (36:38):
Notre Dame comes out on top, it looks like this,
You comes out on top. It looks like that.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
Oh, I mean here, here's the stakes for it. I
you as they're playing with house money. Yeah, and if
Indiana goes into Notre Dame Stadium but wins that game
in this state, the Irish, You're never gonna be able
to lift that one down, No, never. But Notre Dame
beats Indiana, It's like, that's fine, That's probably what should have happened. Like,
(37:05):
Notre Name is a powerhouse, this is where they should be.
This is not where Indiana is a football program. The
losing his program in college football history should be. It's
awesome that they're there, but like, if Notre Dame loses
this game, I mean, fans are gonna be apoplectic about it.
I will. I will be tuning into dy Nation the
(37:26):
message boards for us. You haven't been around dy Nation?
Speaker 3 (37:32):
Is this two thousand and nine?
Speaker 2 (37:34):
We got message boards still exist for a segment of
the Notre Dame fan base, And boy are they a
riot when the Irish lose a game they shouldn't lose. Yeah,
I mean you can't. Yeah, boy, you really can't. Before
some of the stuff I read in there about Brian
Kelly when I when I covered the Irish, was I
mean incredible incredible stuff?
Speaker 1 (37:56):
You mean slaying them? Or just like I mean incredible
informative stuff? Are you talking about everything?
Speaker 2 (38:01):
Not formative?
Speaker 3 (38:02):
No, just hilarious entertainment? Yeah, okay, level entertainment.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
Lara, Where was Signetti at this point here in Indiana?
Like where he's up here now as far as like
one of the greatest coaches in Indiana.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
The man got right in votes for the presidential election.
I mean like he is.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
After one season coming from James Madison. Like he's up here.
But here's my thing, and I you fans, you can
boom me all you want. He's up here right now.
But he loses to Notre Dame. He stays here and
it's still successful and he loses in the first round
and boil boy, thanks so much.
Speaker 2 (38:33):
There's seasons of success regardless, Yes, but if you beat
Notre Dame, you go up here and that season.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
You're not saying like moral victories, No moral victories here,
You're not going out if should you lose, you're not
going out there and pattern back, Oh well, at least
we got this far.
Speaker 3 (38:51):
Absolutely not. This is the never.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
Daunted Indiana Hoosiers under the leadership of Kurt coming at
you Signetti. All right, this is what the Hoosias are doing.
They're coming at you. They are out to take it all.
They are not just going into this thinking, oh, it
would be nice to win a game at Notre Dame.
This is a we're gonna punch you in the throat,
you know, biting knee caps to steal one from Dan Campbell.
This is a vicious Indiana football team who knows that
(39:16):
everyone has said, oh, there's all this controversy, did Indiana
deserve it? They didn't play anybody.
Speaker 3 (39:22):
They've heard it all.
Speaker 4 (39:23):
They know that there are doubters in college football that
don't think that they, you know, earned the right like
maybe some other programs in other conferences, you know, may
have who played a tougher schedule this and that. Yeah,
Indiana is not just going in to Notre Dame to
go to beat Notre Dame. Indiana is going in to
prove that they're a team that is positioning themselves to
(39:43):
go try to make a run in this playoffs.
Speaker 3 (39:47):
Because no, no, that will not happen.
Speaker 2 (39:52):
No, I don't think so, I won't.
Speaker 4 (39:55):
I I cannot fathom that would be like the most
un Indiana.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
Like both these games are being played on campus, Like
let's stir it up, baby, give if they win that game,
give Curtis work a flag and be like, go to midfield,
you plant it there, mister Hosier State.
Speaker 3 (40:12):
I would I could just see. I could just see.
Speaker 4 (40:15):
I you a d Scott Dolson, like tearing down the stands,
like rushing out Like that's to me, it's just like
that's your biggest jinx. You know, Like then what happens.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
When you win?
Speaker 4 (40:27):
I know, but then you've got to go and you
play Georgia in the Sugar Bowl and you got like
that you already like without person back, like oh.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
The entire state of Indiana on the Battle don't plant
all red.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
Don't don't plant, don't plan the flag.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
Just don't flag. That's funny, Yeah, don't.
Speaker 3 (40:43):
It's to act like you've been there before.
Speaker 1 (40:46):
They haven't been there.
Speaker 3 (40:47):
You can act like it, I know, like, but that's
the thing, you.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
Haven't been there before. I think it's okay to not
act like you've been there before. Sometimes I plant the flag, baby,
professional and college, I think on the corner. Yeah, I
get it.
Speaker 1 (41:02):
And by the way, I really win.
Speaker 3 (41:03):
You're probably right win with dignity ear in the respect.
Speaker 2 (41:06):
I have a stink with you.
Speaker 1 (41:07):
N C double a Scott Dolson, you mentioned him a
you a d the IU fan base, the IU universe.
They get three thousand tickets.
Speaker 2 (41:16):
That a home field advantage, get a home JJ. I disagree.
It's college football playoffs. This is different.
Speaker 1 (41:21):
You mean to tell me Indiana's getting three thousand tickets
to go to the fans three thousand chances to go
see their team of a huge Notre Dame stadium and
we're in the first round of the college house.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
You can get more tickets. What's that beat Ohio State?
You can get more tickets your host a home game.
Speaker 1 (41:36):
Oh, I see what you're saying okay, yeah, but I
just at that point of the season, at that point
the stakes.
Speaker 2 (41:41):
It's the first year with this twelve team, YadA, YadA.
I thought, hey, if you're gonna give three.
Speaker 1 (41:45):
Thousand normally like they do on a regular game, whether
it's Week seven or week four, it's the college football playoffs,
give them half the stadium.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
No, no, no, give him a quarter of this now,
absolutely no, JJ point of having made it to the
college football No. The point of having the games on
campus is to give those teams a home field advantage.
It's not for fairness. It's because Notre Dame is a
better team than Indiana this year, so they get to
play there in it.
Speaker 1 (42:09):
So you just say, beat Ohio State your host, and
same thing for three thousand.
Speaker 2 (42:12):
I just think it. I just think it stinks. Anyway.
Speaker 1 (42:14):
I want, I want, you know, a bunch of noise
and a bunch of colors and everything in South Bend
in a couple of fridays from now. So it's gonna
be fun. I love it.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
I know the well represent I know a well represent
well the.
Speaker 1 (42:26):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (42:27):
I enjoyed it today.
Speaker 1 (42:28):
Obviously, you guys are gonna be covering this game coming
up in Denver.
Speaker 2 (42:31):
Best of luck.
Speaker 1 (42:32):
It's a four to twenty five kick that means you
guys are gonna be getting home about one to two
