Speaker 1 (00:00):
Time part weekly conversation with Pride of the Jaguars running
back Fred Taylor. Week fifteen, Jets Jaguars. You know, Fred,
if the Jaguars win two straight games, that's what they
call a winning streak.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Imagine that. Wow.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Yeah, I mean, you'll take it how you can take
it right, take it as it comes.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Man, win pretty ugly, it does not matter.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
A win is a win, especially for all Jaguars fans
around the world. Last week wasn't pretty, but they found
a way to get it done. This week, you know,
not the ideal matchup we all anticipated or in the preseason.
You know, the Jets were considered a playoff team. The
Jaguars was considered a team that had potential to bounce
(00:43):
back from a year ago. We all thought that was
the case for both teams, and neither team has shown up.
And but you still have a matchup. You know, if
we go back to what is it four years ago,
this was a matchup that they the team that at
one and lost it would get the first pick. And
here we are again with those same potential implications.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
But we'll see how it goes.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
We will see. Last week, the Jaguars defense played well
to give up some yards. But then I had three
fourth down stops. That's a good step in the right direction. See,
young guys played well, that's promising, like Jarion Jones who
had the sack. So that's a good thing on defense.
But this week they're going up against Aaron Rodgers, only
the all time greats, eighth of the all time passing lists.
(01:31):
They've got Davonte Adams, they got Garrett Wilson, They've got
they've got parts. They might not be playing well in
New York on offense overall, but this is still a
group that has the pieces to hurt you.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Yeah, the more I see a Rod, the more I'm like,
come on, pro, you know, come on, go go ahead
and retire, you know, just just shut it down.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
I mean, I love him as a as a player.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
You know, I haven't had a chance to really, you know,
have an extensive conversation with him, but you know, on
the field, I thought that he was always one of
the best to ever played the position. Again these last
two years, well you know, fairness, this year, you know,
it doesn't look great. It doesn't look like the a
(02:13):
Rod that I'm used to see, but he does have
some pieces around him, you know, and young Wilson right there.
He has Davante Adams, some guys who can get it done.
You know, it has a couple of running backs in
the backfield as well. You got Hall and Allen who
also can get it done. Big big backs, strong running backs,
(02:34):
strong downhill type running back. So again, offensively, they have weapons,
they can get it done. The protection has always been
an issue. Can they protect long enough to you know,
allow a rod to feel comfortable. I ain't a many
forty year olds want to get hit JP. So trust me,
you can hit him once and he'll start looking around,
(02:55):
and I think that's gonna be the key. Pressure Josh
Heines Allen has been more probably one of the most
consistent players on the team this year, and it's gonna
take him travon the d li getting after room and
playing good defense, starlid defense throughout the game. The Jets defense,
on the other hand, JP still a pretty solid Grook group.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
You know, they saws guard and saw.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
They have some guys that can get it done. So offensively,
we have to protect. They have to protect Matt. Matt
has to protect the ball and not have those multiple
turnovers as he did a week ago. So he has
to find a way to protect the ball. And how
do you do that? You run it tank out eighteen carres.
I like to see, you know, Travis et and to
get a few more opportunities to sort of help both
(03:42):
their his confidence, but running the ball to help you
win this game.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Brett Taylor with us. You got to do that early though.
They had nine runs to the first half last week
and we can't do that. They threw the ball twice
in the direction of Brian Thomas Junior in the first half,
no catches. All that came in the second half. So yeah,
I get the Texans whoever they played last week was
on the field forever. But I mean when you have
(04:05):
your opportunities, you got to strike the you know, hit
those players earlier in the game.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Yeah, that's been the thing for this team this entire season,
is their first quarter, first half offensive woes. You know,
I don't recall to date of record actually an NFL
team that sort of had these sorts of dismal starts,
you know, to to the ball games throughout the entire
It's been this way the entire season. You know, like
(04:33):
if you're not gonna get out there, you're not gonna
start fast. You're not gonna create this momentum. You're not
gonna win ball games. It's a lot of knots and
that's what happens in the NFL. So if they can
get out there, try to find some sort of big
play early in the game. We've been saying this for
the longest day. Peak just just throw a deep fifty
(04:55):
to fifty ball to Brian thumbas we're seeing that he's capable.
These other teams are doing it. You look around the league,
like Cincinnati is doing it. The Cowboys find a way
to do it. Like these teams haven't played great, but
these teams are finding a way to get their playmakers
the ball. And sometimes it's simply just manufacturing the force
of issue. Play a fifty to fifty gamble play. Hell,
(05:19):
if it doesn't work, put your defense out there and
hopefully they hold up. But sometimes the methodical coach can
be coaching, or approach can be overthinking. But you know,
I digress. I'm not in the building coaching. I don't
know what's going on behind the scenes. I just want
these guys to go out there and be successful.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Of course, the Jaguars played the Titans last week at
the three and ten, they kind of all run together
at this point. Fred Taylor was proud of the Jaguars
running back. You know, there's outside of the building, a
lot of fans are like, oh, you mess up the
draft status for next year with a win last week. Right,
So that's the fan A lot of fan perspective're not
going to speak for everybody right inside the building. If
(06:02):
you're a coach or a player, you know, I mean,
you're not caring about that because this goes on your
permanent record. These the last four games moving ahead, and
a player I'm guessing right Fred, from your perspective, doesn't
care what the draft stock is next year because that
player might take their job.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Yeah, nobody cares about the draft position.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Nobody's thinking about players coming out of college.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
I would like this guy or this guy. I've never
thought that way.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
I've never heard the locker room whispers, you know, anything
to that extent.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
In my entire thirteen years.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
It's about the guys that are in the locker room,
you know, who can help us now. It's always about now.
We have never had conversations about you know, the future.
You know, And again, I don't know how much the
game has evolved guys in the locker room anticipating these
picks or these positions, or wanting the guy from college
(06:52):
to be on his team.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
I still believe that the best players in the world
are the best players in the locker room.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
On the NFL level.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Now, there are some amazing college talent out there, but
they have yet to prove what they can do on
that level. It's still all potential based hoping that these
guys can reach the next level and be you know,
All Stars or you know, all Pro eventually Pro Bowls,
(07:23):
et cetera. So no one, no one cares. You want
to win the ball game. I mean, you have incentives. Yeah,
there's so many reasons to want to win right now.
So yeah, I don't look forward, but I understand the fans.
But what they don't look at all the time is,
you know, draft position, you want to get your player.
(07:46):
You know, if there's not a going number one, who
are you going to pick? Fans, who are you going
to pick? If you have the number one pick. We've
had the number one pick two times in the past
four years. No, who are we gonna pick? So you know,
even if it's three or four I tease Travis Hunter
(08:06):
on the podcast we dropped Tuesday on the pivot, I said,
do ball. I said, you need to learn how to
say that now, and he was like, I would love
to throw to Jacksonville. But again I said, jokingly, but who, Like,
there's so much that goes into it.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
All right, we do we need a dB? Do we
need a receiver? Like? What position is he gonna play? Like?
Speaker 1 (08:32):
The answer is yes to both?
Speaker 3 (08:33):
But yes, well if that's if that's the case, JP,
maybe they can take one player and get a two
for one because he's shown that he can play both.
But again, I like to digress these days.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Hey, well we got all off season to talk about that.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Exactly, and that's another part. So let's just focus on now.
Let's focus on this Jets team and a team that
hopefully well that they need to be and hopefully that'll
be the outcome.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Red great stuff is always pleasure each and every week.
And we'll see you in the postgame coming ye.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
I will be in the post game, and I'll make
sure not to eat any bad Dominican Republic food.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Got you last week.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
It doesn't mean all the food is bad. So for
anyone that thinks I'm talking about all the food. No,
it was just something that upset I had stomach.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Bikers, we don't need all the details. Leave the gory
details out, Fred, We're good.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
All right. Sit in the post game, all right. We'll
be in the post game.
