Speaker 1 (00:00):
Typh Our Weekly conversation with Pride of the Jaguars running
back Fred Taylor. The Vikings are coming to town. Fred,
It's week ten. How are you. What's up?
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Jp?
Speaker 3 (00:09):
I'm good, man, I am so good. I'm just ready
to get back out here. He's the more football, hopefully
for a better ending this time around, but certainly the
excitement is there. Just doesn't really finish the way we
all anticipated.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Yeah, it didn't work out, hasn't worked out for a
few weeks. Obviously, two and seven record, but hey, if
you get one this week against Minnesota, then okay, you
got a little something going at least. There's injury bugs
are creeping in now and Trevor Lawrence has been on
that list this week limited earlier in the week with
a left shoulder issue coming out of the game. So
(00:45):
Mac Jones getting some reps and when the quarterbacks dinged up,
that's always news.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Yeah, it's always news. The good thing is, you know
he was able to finish the game a week ago.
You know, regardless of wet, circling and buzzing out there,
you have to be more safe. I'm sorry, get the backup, guys.
A couple of opportunities just in case or in the
event that something does happen, and it doesn't have to
be anything openly physical. When you have different injuries, you know,
(01:12):
you tend to kind of you want to just be cautious, right,
So everybody has to be be raised always the next
man up mentality, and Mac former first round guy, we
know he's more than capable. I thought he had a
great uh preseason, uh this past this past preseason, So
certainly Matt could could get it done in the event
(01:35):
Trevor is not able to make it happen.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
And they're beat up other places as well. Of course,
you know wide receiver, we know all about that. The
offensive line now dinged up, and it's kind of how
it goes this season. The next man's got to get
up and play, and let's get into this offensive line.
If Ezra Cleveland's not ready, maybe it's Blake Handsett left guard,
and you know they've got they're just they're digging deep
(01:58):
right now.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
And yeah, that's the way it goes, man. It happens
that way when you're still you're sold to be the
best in the world, play on the best stage in
the world, and that's the NFL.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Those things happen.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
You know, we're ten weeks in, as you mentioned, and
that's why the front office guys get paid. You know,
they have to keep bringing players in, keep evaluating, and
keep you soning. Just might just might get lucky and
find someone that can stick and end up being that
diamond and the rough that you need to get the
(02:32):
job done. But first things first, the guys that are available,
they have to go out there and they have to
play well versus you know, this dyke, this Vikings front four,
who's coming in town with twenty seven sacks, so they're
averaging right around three per game or so. So it's
gonna be a real challenge for whoever's out there.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Dnathan Grenard, Andrew Van Ginkole, those guys can get after it.
On the defensive side, Fred Taylor is us, how does
a Jaguars offense get to a faster start? They have
started so slow all season long. And I don't know
how long this interview should be. We can talk for
hours about this, I'm afraid.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Yeah, yeah, you know that's the unfortunate part, man, because
if I knew the answers, maybe I'll be right there
in the building with you, you know, calling the plays directing
the team in some capacity. Yeah, I think Doug said it. Situationally,
they have to get better. You know, over the course
of the season, we've seen several different things pop up
(03:38):
at the most inopportune time, whether it be drops, overthrow,
simple missus, a sack to slow down the drive. But
you have to get an other team's credit as well.
You know, they come in, they have to make adjustments
and make sure they're not exposing themselves because the first
fifteen plays of the game typically they're hoping that that's
(04:02):
gonna be maybe you know two, you know, three series
at best. If you do go three and out and
teams make adjustments, maybe they get better with their sideline
adjustments as well as the players just making the plays
they're supposed to make. You know, it's just not the coaching,
(04:24):
it's the entire group and that group when they take
turns being bad, then this is the result. It's a
slow start that eventually leads to losses.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Fred Taylor with us prout of the Jaguars running back
and let's flip it out of the Jaguars defense, and
we know the issues in the passing game this year
on defense or thirty first in the league in yardage.
They give up explosive plays, and really there's never a
good time for an explosive play, but certainly late in
games and key moments, and they playing justin Jeffers In
(05:00):
this week, he leaves the league in receiving yards. So
how do you slow this guy down?
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Look? You you said it, JP.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
I didn't know if everybody out there knew Jettis, which
is his nickname.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
It enters the room before he does.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
And uh, but you can smell him from a while
away because he's like always burning jet fuel.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
The guy can go. He can do everything.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Everything they ever witnessed th old school Jaguar fans, they
ever witnessed Jimmy Smith doo. This kid can do all
of that and more. He can run every route in
the book, the entire route tree. He can go deep,
beat your intermediate, he can beat your short run after
the catch. But he's more of a deep threat than
(05:44):
anything else. And how you slow him down? You just
you know, you go out there and you play as
much up coverage to have him catch the ball in
front of you as you can, and hopefully throughout that
process you're you're hoping to get some pressure. You know
after Sam Darnell, Uh, to to create opportunity interception or
(06:06):
turnover opportunities for yourself. We try and keep them in
front of you by way of playing very sound discipline
zone which Jack Warris hadn't really been great at this year. Uh,
but you try your best to play those coverages. You
can even try and double team him. And then you
expose yourself to guys like Jordan Addison, who's who's been
(06:29):
back also you know in there in there not just
their past game, but but I mean their their their
run game is doing well with Aaron Jones, but he's
also been great in their past game as well as
their third leading receiver. So you have to play sound
man discipline and not get too antsy.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
And Jalen Naylor is another guy Hawkinson back the title
and yet you know he hasn't played yet, so we'll see.
All right, Let's wrap up Bred with the rematch for
Cam Robinson after the trade. He got a game ball
last week in his first game with Minnesota. It was
the first guy who got one in the locker room.
(07:08):
What kind of emotions will he have? And then Josh
heinz Allen facing off against him most of the day.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
The beautiful things about this is, you know, they have
to do something in Minnesota to get Cam's confidence, to
make sure it's the same.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
You know, Camp can get Camp can play with.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Some nastiness to him from time to time. But in
this particular matchup, these guys know each other really well,
you know, and they can go back to the old
school tricks at the trade.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
We know who you are.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
There's no way you can hide over the past four
years from each other or five years or so from
each other. So it's gonna be an interesting matchup that
I'm excited to see. We gave the Player Network game
ball to Travon Walker. We did and easily two sacks.
(08:04):
Josh heinz Allen. You know, he played a terrific game
last week. He had some other pressures as well, so
I think he's revped up, ready to go, probably be
a lot more excited with this matchup, and he probably
feels that he's gonna have some opportunities to go against
his former teammate and make some noise. So two sacks,
(08:26):
three sacks, a strip fumble, a sack fumble, you know,
two of those two will certainly put you in position
and win this game, and you know, I'm sure every
Jaguar fan again across the globe will hope that Josh
has his best game of the season.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
That will help the team, you know, walk away with
a victory.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Bred great as always as tough stretch continues, but we'll
root for a win Sunday against the Vikings. Man, We'll
talk to.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
You one game at a time. Let's see how it
unfolds back brick by brick, the breck by ain grick,
and let's make sure Tornado ain't nowhere close.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Yeah, no doubt, we'll talk to you.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
At that point, I was just messing round
