Speaker 1 (00:00):
Time for a week. In conversation with Pride of the
Jaguars running back Fred Taylor ahead of the Packers Jaguars matchup, Fred,
let's rewind quickly to the Jaguars Patriots matchup at Wimbley
and the best performance overall of the year for this team.
All three phases got the job done last week in London.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Yeah, all three phases executed on a high level. Started
out a little slow, but that's okay. They finished strong,
walked away with a thirty two to sixteen victory. I
believe it was the most point sport this season by
our offense, and they did it in a different sort
of type fashion. Thirty nine times they ran the ball
I believe it was eighteen in a row consecutive runs
(00:41):
and only attempted twenty passes, in which Trevor was pretty
effective on that. They asked some deep shots to Brian
Thomas Junior. The biggest play of the game obviously the
ninety six yard point return that almost gave everybody a
heart attack before he brought it in.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
The PJ.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Washington ninety six yard point return the eleventh longest return
in the history of the NFL, the longest in the
history of the Jags and the London game was a
huge play, and I think that just gave the guys
the confidence and the momentum boost that they needed to
propel themselves, you know, ahead of the Patriots to get
(01:22):
the win. So much needed win, especially looking ahead at
the next four games.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Needed to bring that one home, no doubt about that.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Fred, you mentioned the next five games in factor against
teams with winning records the next four or against NFC contenders.
The next one is against the Green Bay Packers and
a team that's playing really well right now. Jordan Love,
big contract guy. He's throwing it all over the field.
He's got a long streak of games with two or
more passing touchdowns. So you know what they're going to do.
(01:53):
They want to move this and spread this football around
against the Jaguars defense. Let's be honest, before last week
wasn't played well at all in the passing game. They're
still thirty first in the league in past defense, so
they might have some.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
Guys back this week.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Maybe that's a boost of the defense as well, Luikan,
maybe wingers, But how do you slow down Jordan Love
and the way they're throwing this football round?
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Just to answer to those guys that might be back.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
It was good seeing Tyson Campbell in some spot duty
last week there and in London, so he's sort of
working his way back in the lineup. It's gonna be tough,
you know. Obviously the Packers are five and two ball club.
They play some close games and went to played a
thrilling matchup against the Texans last week. But it's not impossible.
(02:40):
The Texans were able to get after Love. You know,
they got two interceptions off of them, they sacked him
I think three or four times, and that those picks
came by way of pressure and good secondary play. So Jacks,
if they can continue Trayvonon Walker what he's been doing
in these last three games, but he's been a se machine.
He's actually coming into his own and just sort of
(03:04):
he has a sack streak going here. So and he's
also playing well against the run, So they're going to
have to continue to be very disciplined against the run
and managing not allowing Josh Jacobs to get going because
if he gets going then it makes it an easier
job for Jordan Love. So Jay and j Josh and
(03:25):
Jordan will definitely be on the hunt but if you
can maintain the run game, which I think the Jags
have done a tremendous job of this year, you'll give
yourself an opportunity to get the packs into third and
manageable or third and long, which will then give you
an opportunity to rush the passer and potentially create turnovers
on the back end for your secondary.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
That's the formula from a defensive standpoint.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
I love the formula in which the Jags used a
week ago to beat the Patriots by running the ball.
Tank had tremendous output his career highs across the board
and carries and yards and potential I think touchdowns as well.
So Tank had a tremendous day, and they took pressure
off of Trevor. You know, they took their shots and
(04:12):
those shots were let mean, they took their shots, and
those shots were orchestrated, I think, manufactured perfectly for the
players to go in and make the play. So I
like to see more of that play action off the
run game. Take your shot, throw it to mister Baccherode
(04:34):
I like to call them nowadays. Brian Thomas Baccarade is
fifty fifty, so it's a fifty to fifty ball. So
my nickname for him is mister Baccarat because we gotta
take shots and give them a chance to bring it home.
And that's what I believe the formula is for success
for the offense.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
I gotta tell you, I've never played baccarat in my life, but.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
From what I hear, wink wink. From what I hear,
it's the best odds.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
You know.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
If I could say to work on this show, I
don't know. Yes, I don't want the league to start crazy,
you know how it goes. But Rocker Ride is like
fifty fifty his heads and tails, yes or no. Du
a little player, so you know he's the player and
the quarterback is the dealer's a It's a fifty to
fifty shot. So just throwing the deep ball is what
I'm trying to say. Give him a chance, give them good.
(05:22):
It's a good way to say it. Fred Taylor with us.
If you're Travis et and Jr.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
And you saw what happened last week and you're off
on the side with what a hamstring injury? Yeah, I
mean obviously you're motivated to get back anyway.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
You want to get back on the field sooner. Take's
gonna run away with this thing, right, Well, you got
to continue to root your guys on.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
You know, I spoke on the show with with with
the Guys earlier and we talked about you know, I
think competition. I think winning is a byproduct of competing.
You know, you want to win, and how do you
do that? You have to compete, Like we all want
to win, but the competition, like what do they say,
(06:04):
the cream rises to the top, right, I've always wanted
to compete. I've been in this situation many many times
where I was the starter and then I get injured,
and then guys go out there and they have these
sort of performances and you go, okay, But what usually
the league or the team rules are. You're not going
to lose your job to injury. You still get an
(06:24):
opportunity to go out there and compete. And I believe
Travis is in position where he has a strong mindset,
he's strong will, he'll continue, He'll return from his injury
and go out there and compete and let the coaches
make the decision and who gets the reps, who gets
the carries, because they're doing that anyway, right. The beauty
of it all is being able to have a two
(06:46):
headed monster and Travis and Tank let's call them TNT.
That's dynamite, right. So I like my TNT and my
Jay and J's I'm working this morning, JP, what we got,
I don't know what that is.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
I don't know, man, well I do, but I.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Can tell you off air because you know so. So
I like the fact that they do have a dual threat.
They have a two headed monster. Two guys are very
much capable of getting it done as well as the
team now has an insurance blanket, and that Tank is
a younger player. Tank will not be asking for a
(07:26):
contract in a couple of years, whereas on the flip side, Travis,
he potentially could have been, you know, in position to
go in there and say, hey, I saw what you
paid my college teammates. You got a little left for me. So,
I mean, this slows that down a bit. But still
it's not in his control. It's never in his control.
(07:46):
Still got to leave that up to the team in
the front office. But these are the things that you know.
Now management gets an opportunity to kind of use his
leveraging kind of player around with as they look at
their roster or the roster of a two and five
ball club.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Bred Taylor with his final thought here, the Packers lead
the league in takeaways, so you know what they're going
to be about. I mean, they do a lot of
things defensively. They have great personnel all over the field.
So you know, how do you approach this defense? Is
it like you just said, right, run the ball, hang
on to the football, or do you take some chances
(08:24):
down the field. Because there have been some opportunities for Trevor.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Lawrence, I mean I think you you stand a better
chance possibly JP of of of of running the football.
Here you have Xavier McKinney who they got over from
the Giants a year ago and he's leading the league
in interception and takeaways. A guy who is more athletic
(08:48):
and his defending more so than I believe. Being a
strong hackler, get the running backs an opportunity to set
your offense up, and then you have have to pick
your part point when you want to take your shots.
H So the ball and if the defense, if the
(09:09):
defense can play as well as they played a week
ago where they went out there and they forced some
third downs, they were able to maintain and not let
the Patriots get too far away, so the Jaguars could
run the ball and that all worked out. You know,
So stop the run, try and get you know, three
and out situations, or manage the scoring opportunities for the Packers,
(09:35):
and then on the flip side through out there and
run the ball, set up a deep shot, be a
play action, and you got to score. The guys got
to catch the ball this week and and and score,
because that's sort of been a theme when they make
the mistakes.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
The Jacks play bad.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
When they go out there and execute the place that
they are simply supposed to execute, they're actually a really
good team and they could be a better team if
they just do that and.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Don't get behind ten nothing. That's hard to make a
living in this league. Yeah, they did it last.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Week, and you can't get behind ten Packers. Yeah, you
got to come out, you got to try to play faster,
but went in doubt though, however, you still got to
play hard for sixty minutes. You got to go out
there and not show any quit down. They could have
easily took their tests, you know, especially after hearing the
(10:29):
whole quit message a week the week prior to versus
the Bears. They could have said, here we go again,
we're down, that's quit, be ready to go back to
the States.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
They didn't do that.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
They continue to fight through, they continue to find a way,
they build some momentum.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
They only allowed another touchdown.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
After that, and they found a way to win thirty
two to sixteen in a much needed win, and they
have an opportunity to do that back in Jacksonville in
front of the own fans.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Well done as always, and we'll talk to you in
the post game. Hopefully the momentum carries back over the Atlantic.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
We'll talk to you a little bit later.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
We certainly that momentum. We'll see. I'll be on a
standby
