Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're with proud of the Jaguars running back Fred Taylor
once again. Preseason week two, Jaguars Saints coming up with
a Superdome and another week of training camp. Fred coming
off preseason week one, a good week of work and
the first chance, I guess for the guys to take
a look at the mistakes from last week and some
good things they did and try to get better from

(00:21):
all of it, right.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
You know, JP first and foremost, just getting right to it. Man.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
We said last week injuries injuries for me were you know,
the primary goal to get everybody out of the game
clean an injury free so that they can continue to
get back to practice and build reps with the guys
that they project that's going to be here to help
build a successful team this year.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
And that happened, you know.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
I think the next thing you look at is the operations,
the communications. How can we clean that up? They jumped
off start. They had a false start on the very
first player game. You know that's a no note. Now
you're behind the sticks is first and fifteen. You got
to come off script. The other that was big maybe
didn't cost them this preseason or I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
If it's gonna cost them a game because we have
a kicker and Cam Little that can bang them from seventy.
But jumping off sides on fourth down when you're attempting
the field goal is total Well, no, my apologies. Twelve
men in a huddle on fourth down. That's a disaster
because those are opportunities you get to put three on

(01:25):
the board and five yard difference can be the difference
in deciding if that kicker is gonna miss or make.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
A field goal.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
So just cleaning up the operations, cleaning up the coverage
defensively on the back end, I think those probably were
the things of emphasis throughout the week of practice. And
here we are as they prepare to take on the Saints.
We want to see those departments a bit cleaner.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Yeah, And to your point on the defensive side, especially
William Cohen, this week had a period of practice where
it was alignment, assignment and communication. It was literally just
that there was no let's just get to the line
and then not snap it and do it again and
again and again, and you have to wrap it and
you gotta nip it in the butt now because that

(02:08):
can fester as you move on.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Right and again, that's the standard. You know, they're going
to have a standard of just doing things. Let's get
back to the basics, right. We can't play on an
advanced level if we can't maintain and take control of
just the simple basic things, the things that the snap
that starts to play, right, So you have to be
able to understand the snap, understanding progression and what it

(02:33):
takes in that department. So I love that concept. Get
back to the very basics football, one on one. Let
us have walkthroughs, let us get our alignments properly, let
us get our assignments, have those handle and then that way.
Now you don't have to think. You can just get up,
get up to the line, you know, and play fast.

(02:55):
So visualization techniques, you see. I close my eyes as
I say this because I can see all the different
moving pieces. And that's what I enjoy about football so much.
Is it's not just the physical game. You have to
be mentally sharp and focused at all points in time
so you can execute on the highest level.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Brett Taylor with us our weekly Travis Hunter update. Last
week eleven offensive snaps officially eight defensive snaps, but not
you know, not right next to each other. He wasn't
running off the field offensive right back on on defense.
That could be the next step though, right, I mean,
at some point he's going to have to do that
if he's going to play both sides.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Yeah, you know, Travis, it was a good start.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
It was great for you know, every Jaguar fan across
the globe to be able to see him get in
there and do what they said they were going to do.
They made a commitment on draft night that they will
continue to play him both ways.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
He was able to get out there, have some.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Snaps on offense, have snaps there on defense, and they're
going to find a way to utilize him. I mean,
he's such a gifted athlete and he's to play on
the elite level. So they just got to find a
way to dial in, you know, those reps so they
can maximize his opportunities, opportunities on both sides of the ball.

(04:11):
And I'm sure they're gonna have some gadgetry and some
deep shots and a few things so that they can
utilize him and crunch situations, because that's what it's gonna
boil down to. Yes, he can do it on first
first down and first and ten. You know, to start
the game and get three, four or five yards on
the hitch or slant. But we want to be able
to see him come to life as a big time

(04:33):
playmaker on you know, those third down situations or even
the first down go balls. You know, even something as
simple as clearing out for another guy to get someone
else open. And then on the flip side defensively, obviously
he needs to be in there getting those big time PBUs,
getting those interceptions to give the offense the ball back

(04:53):
as well as you know, I'm a little greedy because
I love Travis, so a pick six here and there
wouldn't hurt Fred.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
One of the kind of the oddities of the way
college football is operated now is that players can transfer
multiple times without penalty. Trevor Lawrence is now entering year
five in the NFL. But on the other side today,
New Orleans Saints rookie quarterback Tyler Shuck is the same age.
In fact, he's a week older than Trevor Lawrence and

(05:23):
he's a rookie in the NFL. It kind of tells
you some of the differences right in the way college
has played these days.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Yeah, the big difference.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
You can see a lot of these guys, especially in
that window, that age group, when they come out that late,
most of them are taking.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
A pay cut to come to the NFL.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
They stay back in college and they secure the bag,
so there's no urgency ready to leave.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
But they used to just make fun of Eric Dickerson
for that, but now you know they don't.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Do that anymore. They don't do that.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
But you know it's a new day and age that
we kid a lot more ninety four class guys. We're
still on the group chat University of Florida guys that
ike Healers and retail Anthony jacqu west Green, those guys. Uh,
you know, we kid man like we're twenty years too
early or too late. I'm sorry, but college football landscape,
what a time to be alive. But either case, those

(06:18):
guys are getting the opportunity to fulfill their dreams. You know,
they're blessed and fortunate to be able to you know, earn.
They make these colleges as a ton of money, so
you know they're able to earn and rap share and
now go on to the next level in the NFL.
No matter the age, they still get an opportunity to compete.
So you're gonna look out there. You know, you're gonna

(06:40):
see a guy who was drafted number one overall and
you're going to see a guy who you know, just
happy to be out there getting opportunity to you know,
create a name for himself, you know, in the NFL
on that on this level, so you know it'd be interesting.
But obviously at the end of the day, we're going
to need Trevor Lawrence to go out there, uh and

(07:02):
just operate and show them mechanics and be a leader
and you know, point this team Jaguars in the right direction.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
Fred always a pleasure. We'll call it a day and
we'll do it again next week.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
JP always going to go, man and the hustle and
the bustle, and you know, you know, I love you
and I'm sorry we had to cut it short today.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
It's okay, man.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
I appreciate you making time in your busy schedule. You're
pivoting everywhere.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
You know, I got a shirt over there and I said,
never too late to piot, are never too early to pivot.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Yeah, well, so we're always pivoting.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
Man, You too, You're in a perpetual You're in a
perpetual pivot.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Very much so very much so.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
But and I'm going over to enemy territory too, so
I'm gonna say if I can spy a little bit
coach camp a little later in the day, so we'll
see what I can get. If I can get some information, I.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Kid, I kid, you know, we get it. Wink wink.
I'm just kidding. See your friend take
