Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're with Pride of the Jaguars running back Fred Taylor
ahead of preseason week three. Boy, it's coming to it
ahead quickly.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Here.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
The regular season is coming fast. Fred, here we are.
How are you, man?
Speaker 3 (00:13):
I'm good. I love it.
Speaker 4 (00:15):
I think I tweeted the other day it was sixteen
days until the kickoff first game, you know, And I
asked everybody who they got this year, and don't do
the bayas. Oh I love my home team. I got
a root for my home team because I'm sure the
Cowboys fans somewhere ready to hang themselves. They got to
be sick and tired of that. Even maybe some of
(00:36):
our fans jp like it's part of the game. You know,
we want it now as football fanatics, much like this season,
we want it now. I hope I wish the season
had already started, and so many instances sometimes it feels
that way, but it's here, you know.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
It's preseason is about the rap.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
We get one more shot to see the guys and
then we're off the cuts and we'll get final, final rosters.
We'll be able to do our fantasy football thing. You're
hopping in with Mike this year.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
What's going on I'm not gonna be in with Mike.
We've got an internal one. Of course we can't do
it for money, that's against the rights, but just for fun.
I haven't been in one in years, so right, I'll
need your advice.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
I think. How about an invite? Yeah, yeah, I don't
like me. What's going on? I couldn't get an invite
to your your league.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
I'm not in charge, man, I just work here, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
Okay, I'm internal, or maybe I'm just a contractor.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
But your name's on the wall, Brad. We could probably
get you in if you wanted to play.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
Yeah, but uh yeah, no, preseason is gonna wrap man,
and all those things I just mentioned, uh you know, uh,
final cuts, you know, sorting out the roster and and
really saying who we're gonna you know, go to battle
with for the duration of the season. Of course, they'll
make some moves, as you know. They made a trade
there after the last preseason game, so they'll make moves
(02:02):
as we go. But you know, they've been doing well
so far.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Fred Taylor with us.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
This team seemed to bounce back last week, you know,
going into the Saints game. They had the lineman assignment
practice where they literally just get to the line, snap
the ball and stop and do it again. I mean,
and then they have a scrimmage that outside of the
first drive, the offense didn't play well at all.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
So there's a lot of adversity.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
It felt like last week and just still but you
know what, they come in the game and the starters executed.
So that means it went from the practice field to
the game. Now they are playing backup to the Saints.
Take that out. The response has to be a good
sign for Liam Cohen.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
You still got to play regardless who's out there back up.
Even on air, guys dropped ball against air. So if
you have second team, third team, it does not matter.
You want to go out there and be efficient. You know,
going back to the alignment assignment. You know, we talked
about that last week and you're bringing up today. I
(03:04):
think it paid off. You know, for me, it's about
quality reps. Whether they're you know, against air, whether it's
physical against you know, your teammates, or even they're just visual.
You want to be able to get make that repue
as efficient as you can. And one of my coaches
used to coach Kennedy Pohler, who always coach, says, I
told I took notes my entire career. You will see
(03:25):
some guys come in the room and not take take
a single note. They try to remember it up here,
he said, if you write it, you remember it because
your brain is something in your brain that can always
go back to that little piece of paper. It can
even see you performing the act of writing the note.
You can know exactly where at on that paper. If
(03:47):
you had to go back now, you can know exactly
where you put it. Your key points. Just like taking
quizzes or tests or what have you. Football is no different.
You want to be aby capture that note taking then
have a visual you know note, so you have something
to go back on. And I think the guys all
did well because they came out and they executed with
(04:08):
position precision.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Trevor should have been nine to ten.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
BT dropped the ball earlier in the game a nice
crossing route. Trevor was able to come back next play
third down and they were able to continue that momentum
and go down and sustain the drive. So they played
well last week offensively, I thought. Defensively, they got after
the Saints up front right. There had some good pressure
(04:36):
winger where the safety blitze off the edge, you know,
he did well, and gathering a quarterback there for a sack.
So I think as a unit they played pretty good.
Certainly a big improvement from week one, where we saw
them jump off in a false start the very first
player of the game, we saw a you know, twelve
(04:59):
men in a huddle on a field goal to the tenth.
This week versus the Saints being tied first quarter, we
didn't see a single penals. So even that in itself
something that's not gonna well, it is gonna show on
a stat book, but when you commit the crime, but
when you don't, they don't show on the stat sheet.
But this was a huge improvement and I'm sure the
(05:20):
coaches were happy. Day I had an opportunity to see it.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Fred Taylor with us so coming up this week, the
Jaguars have a joint practice. It was Thursday down in
Davy against the Dolphins. Really kind of the last chance
to get a look at the starters against another team
because it just feels like a lot of these guys
are going to rest on Saturday night, and you know,
it's really coming down to only the final few roster spots.
(05:46):
So this has got to be a different feel for
guys who've been fighting on camp, trying to find a
way up the depth chart. This might be their last
opportunity to put something on tape. As we always say,
not only for the Jags, but there's thirty one other
two as well.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
Yeah, I totally agree, and I've always agreed with the
notion that it's thirty one other teams and you want
to just try and put your best foot forward. I
posted some on my Instagram the other day. I said,
you know, you got to put the work in. You know,
God God will handle the results. That's his business. The
(06:21):
results are God's business, and guys have to have that mindset.
You know, as long as I work hard, I've studied hard.
You know, I gave myself a great opportunity. Then how
do you tips lay or how do they fall? You
have to deal with it, and if it's not in Jacksonville,
then it's not in Jacksonville. But you know, based on
this week's practice, as you just mentioned, I don't believe
(06:46):
the starters are going to get many reps. But you know,
again going back to the very first week when we
talk pregame we talked inside the stadium. My entire focus,
especially with the guys that you know are going to
go into the seat, let's get them out of preseason healthy.
You want to be able to hit the ground run
in these first couple of weeks healthy, so you can
(07:08):
start to create momentum and hopefully that momentum can carry
you into some good looks. Some teams you never see injured,
you know or never see the many injuries. This team
a year ago was decimated by injuries, just a lot
of inconsistencies, guys.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
In the lineup. One we got of the lineup.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
So my entire main goal, I'm sure the coaches are too,
is to get the guys. After they excuse me, my
main goal is to well. The coach's main goal is
to once they sought the roster, it's just to make
sure guys are healthy and ready to go.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
So again it's a good preseason for him.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
Hopefully they can finish out strong and get the cuts
done and see what our roster looks like. Man, be
ready for your twenty twenty five twenty twenty six Jaguars football.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Final thought with it here, Fred, you mentioned the trade
earlier Luke Fortner goes to the Saints. Colin Saunders, defensive tackle,
comes back from the Saints. After the game, he said
he was at home playing Fortnite when he got the
phone call after the.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Game, where are we trading?
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (08:14):
We just played these guys tonight. It's funny how the
league works sometimes, right.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
Yeah, I mean, but that's the beauty of it.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
Man. Guys don't know, some players don't always agree with
it because we you know, the business part of it.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
We figure that part out last. Right. You love football.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
You just want to play your work hard, and that's
what your focus is. And then this thing that's called
the business of the NFL kind of disrupts, you know,
the fun and the real joy you.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
Get to have.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
But the sooner you learn that it's the business, you know,
and the sooner you learn that it is your job,
and the priority of that is to, you know, make
these two teams look good.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
That the better they look, the more money you make.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
And like any other job, it's about earnings and profits
and all of that and entertainment.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
So you know, he's he made the trip.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
He's a Jaguar now, and you know, if he doesn't
play well, he'll be getting shipped out and maybe traded
somewhere else.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
That's just the way the game goes.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
It's the way it goes. Fred.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
You know what, though, we're not trading you. Fred, I
got news for you. You're staying here from Yeah, I'm
locked in. I'm a forever Freddie tea forever a Jaguar man.
And you know that's why I get in my feelings
sometime when these guys go off on these you know,
Rampai's about my team, and I got to hear Channing
Crowder talks trash. We got a friendly push up wager
(09:51):
that the Jaguars will have a better record than his
former team of Dolphins this year for one hundred and
fifty push ups, and you have to do them inside
of ten minutes.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
I can do that. He can't do it.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
I was gonna say he might as well go ahead
and do him now.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Because that's happening.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
I believe it is. I believe so too, Fred. We'll
talk to you in a couple of weeks. Week one
is the next time we'll catch up on this.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Conversation, ma'am. I'm looking forward to it.
