It is Friday, April twenty fifth, and we've had the
first round of the NFL Draft already here. It was fun,
it was long, certainly, what do you think you like it?
You hate it? Not sexy enough? That seems like that's

the word we hear a lot when you drafted offensive lineman.
You know how I feel. I love it. I was
talking about the offensive line for what last few weeks.
I just feel like it makes you better, quicker. And
you know, Tyler Bookers that it was the pick. You

(01:02):
guys all saw it and we'll talk about it here.
But you know, it's like if you play fantasy football,
which I do, and I kind of have a thing
like I like to be the first one to draft
a position tied in what you know, defense, whatever, it
is like, all right, I'm gonna get I'm gonna get it.

(01:24):
I'm gonna get the best one. And that's kind of
what I think. It's definitely what the Cowboys did. You know,
with with guard, it was a need obviously because they
lost Zack Martin, so it wasn't just you need a player,
but you need a special player and that's what this
team has been used to, and so that's what they're
hoping they're getting. And Tyler Brooker, we're gonna have to

just call him Booker. It's unbelievable all the Tylers that
they've drafted here, Tyler Smith, Tyler Goiton, Tyler Piottish a
few years back. So Tyler Brooker, we're trying to call
him booker. Right guard looks like he's he's gonna be
penciled in as the starter day one, and that's what
you do when you draft the guy twelfth. Overall, I
like to pick a lot and I think it is

symbolizes what they're trying to do, what Broughton, Brian Schottenheimer's
trying to do running the football. So all right, we'll
talk about that. I know we already have callers on
the line. It's gonna be a busy show. Hopefully you
guys got the word that we're doing it, not just
this this part talking draft and then also what they
might do tonight second and third round. But we also

have the announcement. We figured this would be a good
time to announce the all storyline squad from twenty twenty
four twenty five. Got about thirty five forty names to
throw out there. It's been fun. First, second, third team,
got some honorable mentions, got some other awards and announcements

this or not, but you said Michael Williams in the
interview with Ambar, and I'm wondering if that was you
doing a smoke screen thing or was their genuine interest

I think that there's interest there. I was always interested
in a pass rusher. Kind of just got caught off guard.
It was just trying to name some people. But yeah,
I wanted different different names to be thrown out there.
But you know, I wasn't. I wasn't one hundred percent
sure until you know, nobody's a hundred percent sure of anything.
But I knew that they liked the you know that

they wanted offensive line, but you know, I didn't know.
I think like Membo from Missouri Campbell LSU, those guys
were probably rated higher because they have more position flex.
But you know, when it got right down to this
this spot, it's like, well, let's just take the guard.
And that's what he is. He's like the guard. So yeah,

I mean all of it was kind of smoke screen,
but I was just kind of throw out names there.

It's good there, cool, well, good for you, yeah, so
so for me. I mean it's obviously like a boring
but same pick. But I'm thinking about like those proverbial
socks for Christmas. Right, So you look at the socks,
at least the not anklet socks that are then or
something neither. It's like thermal hiking gear. It's going to
support your hobby of hiking. Right, This is going to

support the running game and hopefully protect Dak from injury, right.

The cool news is that they're like tons of great
names still left at wide receiver, running back, and quarterback.
So I know he met Jerry mentioned some trades. Maybe
something lines up there too that takes up one of
those slots. But there's great names out there, so I'm
kind of excited for pick forty four.

And then one last thing, just because I promised Joe
from New Jersey if I got on the show would

when we get to announce the all storyline team. All right, I,

you know, going back to the pick again and uh,
you know with with the booker and and and other
other players that they had. You know, I was told
they had thirteen first round grades. I was told that
yesterday and then now it's gone down to twelve. So
with no first rounders still on the board, that's interesting

to me because twenty four hours ago I was told
a different number and a player on the board that
is still on the board. That they like at least,
you know, if as the first round grade, maybe his
grade has been changed. I don't know. I don't know
how that that happens. But my point is I think

that there's some players still left on the board that
the Cowboys would be very, very interested in getting here
at forty four and maybe and I don't know this,
I'm just speculating because I've seen it before, maybe even
to the point of trading up to get But you know,
we have seen it, and I say that it's been

(06:32):
what eleven years de Marcus Lawrence was the guy that
I remember that they moved up into the first round
to get, which is interesting because we're talking about drafting
Zach Martin. You know, that was what eleven years ago,
twenty fourteen, and here's bookers very similar in their grades
and all that. Well, then in the second day of

(06:53):
that draft, they actually traded their third and their second
to move up high into the second round to get
to Marcus Lawrence. Do that today, I doubt it, but
but they could. You know, they could do that, could
move move up if there's a player that they want.
I would think it would be a skilled player offense
or a receiver or a running back, because I do

think they're still looking for that type of guy. All right,

of I hope you're right about at least one other player,
Hugh Robinson from Alabama. I said, Man, we are on
the same wavelength. I hope, I hope you're really. At
first last night, I was, like everybody else, kind of
disappointed we didn't get Tet. But you know, considering the
fact after I thought about it and all the defensive

lines we have to face in the division, really Booker
was a no brainer and I'm glad they made the
same pick.

Well, if you get.

The top player at any individual position.

Speaker 11 (08:17):
I don't think it's ever a bad.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
Thing, right right, I mean you're not drafting the kicker early.
But but yeah, I mean a position that you're playing
all the time. And you're right, I mean that that
was a factor, that was a factor in of who
that who they face, what the Eagles have on the
defensive line, what Washington has, what the Giants have, you know,
I mean it's it's that's what this division has turned into.

(08:39):
So you have to match it. And and that's I thought.
I thought, you know, looking at it that way was
a really smart way to do it.

Yeah, but I like, I like your seven round, malk
And I tell you what, I hope you're right about
a lot of especially Q. But I know if I
got a lot of other people wanting to get through.

And I was watching the press. I saw the press
conference when Jerry Jones and all of them were speaking,
and it almost seemed like Steven Jones if you saw
their faces when Jerry Jones started talking about back in
the day when we you know, it was the offensive
line that did this. It was the offensive line that
did that. And I was like, oh man, he's giving

it away.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
Yeah, yeah, they but yeah, they always cringe when Jerry
starts talking to those prey No one likes those pre
draft press conferences because nothing is really getting said at
all unless Jerry goes on like a tangent there, and
which sometimes he can go down that road.

Speaker 6 (10:21):
Yeah, and for everybody that's uh, you know, I know
a lot of people are gonna call, They're gonna try
and complain, Hey we needed a receiver. Hey you can
still get a receiver in the second round, a third round,
second round probably most likely. Hey they could even trade
for a receiver. But you need to fit your offensive
line and defensive line because right now we look at

the defense, look at the conference, and look at the division.
Forget about the conference, look at the division. Everybody's great
in the interior. You gotta fix your interior. You gotta
fix your offensive line before you could be a contender to.

Speaker 7 (10:57):
Even win the division.

Speaker 6 (10:59):
So this, this was a great building block, and I
hope they continue and and hopefully somewhere in the draft
where a trade they get a nose tackle because we
really need to stop the run. Also, so so competition
for MASSI or or an upgrade.

it comes to the Cowboys drafting offensive lineman, especially if
their name is Tyler, this is certainly how the Cowboys

I'm gonna I'm gonna change it up a little bit.
I'm gonna pivot a little bit. We're gonna do the
Cowboys storyline team. I'm not gonna do all of them,
but I'm going to kind of do this as the
show goes on, I'm going to kind of progress. And
the reason why I'm making this change is we've got
we got about so we got thirty three spots for

a second third team, and then I have some other
other like I don't know, exceptions that I'm making exception spots.
And I felt like we had to have an international team,
an international aspect of it, because we do have some
callers that call in on a regular basis, I think overseas,

so we want to kind of honor them as well.
We know it's difficult to do that or even if
it's not overseas, just out of the country. I felt
like there was three names that we should put on there.
They should be on the team. Not only do they call,
but they you know, they it's a little bit harder
for them. And of those three people, and Chris with me, Chris,

or do I have to get them on the line.
They do, Okay, so I want to say this, so
we do have one of the callers. That's why I

Nate's like, get me offensive lineman, offensive lineman, you know.

So I don't know if for sure if he was
he just wanted an offensive lineman, but the one that
would make sense for where they were picking was was Booker.
And so it's fine, you know what if I'm sharing
that pick with the one of the greatest offensive lineman
to ever played for the Cowboys and play that position guard, yeah,
I'll take that all day. If it's me and Nate

love it, love it. But but no, it's I. You know,
I love the pick. I really do. And I think
I think just because he comes in and he starts tomorrow,
I mean, he's that's that's what it is. There's no,
there's no question about that. And I think that's what
this team needs for sure when you think about having
you know that, just the line, you know, looking the

way it does in the middle, it's pretty exciting.

So yeah, because I don't remember the last time the
cow was actually picked the very best one on that
position that particular year. Yeah, and this is the best
guard for sure on this draft. So I really like it.

Tyler Smith just turned twenty four years old just earlier
this month, like in April. It's twenty four, so one
of the one of the only only think only two
players in NFL history guards that have been All Pro

before twice before they even turn twenty four years old.
That's that's pretty impressive. Uh So twenty four years years
old for Tyler Smith is you know, entering his fourth year,
and you've got Cooper Beebe who's twenty I think he's
twenty three, and then Tyler Brooker's twenty one. So you
got you got these guys in the middle that they

should be here for a long time. So that's that's
an exciting thing too. Kind of building the house from
from within that that protects your quarterback, helps your running game.
Got to get those tackles to play to play well,
for sure. But I really like what they're doing there
in the middle, so uh, definitely love the pick. All right,

so happy we got an offensive lineman. Yeah, I want
you know, you know, I kept saying I was, I
was hoping for maybe Simmons, and then you know, my
backup plan was, Hey, if we had to bail out,
I'd hope for Grant. Well, you know, last night I
hear Wolchuck say that Simmons has character issues. I had

never heard that at any point in the build up
to the draft, just just had never heard that, you know,
heard about his knee, his knee issue. But Booker, you know,
as it turns out, is the exact opposite of a
character concerned. He's a captain, he's you know, he's everything
you want in a football player on your team. And

what's been our problem apparently the last couple of years,
maybe some of our guys don't love football as a
way of life, and that is not true for Booker.
Booker loves football.

Yeah, he loves football, and he loves when people that
play against him don't love football anymore. I don't know,

a bad thing. I mean, this was a guy that
was a staple in their team for over a decade

honest that that would have been my pick. I know

I just think for us the tackle was was a

then also Schamar Stewart from Texas A and m Those
three for sure were on the on the board that
they had first round grades on. And Stuart's name wasn't
really mentioned a whole lot, but but definitely Walter Nolan was.
And I really think, honestly, Chris, I think it came

down to character, character concerns, character issues. You can. You know,
I don't like to lump these guys in together because
because they went to the same school and all that.
But I mean, you know, Sam Williams an Ole Miss guy,
but he was kind of like that, you know, he
had some of that, but that that's the second round,
second round, and we know that Jerry loves doing that.

But in the first round, you know, you've you've got
to be uh, you've got to check almost every single box.
And I think that was somewhat the knock on on Nolan.
But you know, and you're right though, he's a plug
and play. I mean, that's a guy that probably comes
right in and plays immediately. But it's a little different

on the defensive line with the way they rotate. But
I you know, just think at the end of the day,
more boxes were checked, with Booker now.

That's just personal opinion. Again, I'm an Ohio State junkie.

tell you about Arkansas players. There's actually be a lot
of them. But I mean, like I watch every game

like that that they they both play and they're both good,

guys obviously, it's almost like they won the national championship
or something like that. There's just so many of them.

lumped in there with you guys a lot. They have

Ohio State, Like you could tell you know that that
rivalry is fierce because they're putting guys in the league.

worry about this guy, because it will make everybody better.
As great as CD is, it will make him better,
