Speaker 1 (00:03):
The following.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
He is a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and the
Dallas Cowboys Football Club Cowboys. This is Cowboys storyline brought
you by Gillette, the official razor of the Dallas Cowboys.
Here's Nick Eatman, What is up?
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Welcome to Cowboys storyline presented by Gillette. I am Nick
Eatman at his game week Cowboys and Eagles finally squaring
off Thursday night, September fourth in Philly. This is the
first show of the week, is the last show before
that game, so we'll make sure and get all the
calls in, get your predictions in. You guys can sound off.
(00:50):
Some of you haven't called in since the Micah Parsons trade,
so we can still talk about that. But we are
definitely moving forward. I'm gonna talk cow Boys and Eagles,
Gonna try to get as many calls in as we can.
Have kind of a different format for you for this
day and usually you know, well, we'll try to talk
(01:11):
as much as we can about you know, all the
stuff you guys want. But hey, we're gonna keep it
quick in and out for this game and for this show.
All right, let's start it off here, Gary in New
Mexico's first Gary, what's up, hey?
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Nick? Keeping it quick? This cowboy defense is gonna surprise people.
They've heard all the talk. They've heard they can't be
as good without Micah. I think they're going to be better.
I think Dallas goes out and shocks the world. Jerry
gets the last laugh. The defense plays much better than expected,
and we come out of this game one to zero.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
All right, all right, what's gonna be the biggest thing
as far as that defense goes?
Speaker 4 (01:46):
What are you?
Speaker 1 (01:47):
What are you thinking as far as stopping filling.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
I think they're gonna be better against the run. I
think Kenny Clark's going to make a difference, and I
think the pass rushers are going to surprise. I think
they're hearing all this talk. These guys are proud. These
guys are more cultivated. You can scheme a lot of stuff.
We don't really know what we're gonna see because they've
kind of been hiding stuff. I'm just I'm excited. I'm
excited about the coach, I'm excited about the defense, I'm
excited about I'm excited about everything. The fact that Mike
(02:12):
is gone has made me more excited. All right, So
we'll see all right, all.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Right, Gary, appreciate that good way to get us kicked off.
He's excited. I don't know if I'm the I mean,
I'm excited about football starting. I mean Micah Parsons, though,
I mean, I'm not gonna sit here and be that
kind of guy that's like, oh, good, good riddings go
some people. Are some people in the building that had
to deal with him more or are that way? You know,
(02:39):
from my standpoint, I watched him play football. You guys
watched him play football, and that's what he was really
good at and great at that, and it was a
lot of fun. Didn't have to deal with some of
the other stuff, So my perspective is different than people
that did have to deal with them. But I still
wonder if it was to the point where, you know,
you couldn't get it done. There's a lot of factors
(03:00):
here and it's over now. The Cowboys have definitely moved on,
and like Gary said, I think that, you know, he's excited,
there's a lot of people here that are excited as well.
All right, let's keep it going on. Irene and Falls Church,
Virginia is next.
Speaker 5 (03:14):
Hey, good morning, Okay, So Micah, I had them at
nine at eight before the Mica trade. Now I went back.
I only could take away one game. I gave us
eight and nine, but it did make me feel shaky
on about three of the games. So we'll see how
it pans out. And I was curious if you think either.
Speaker 6 (03:32):
The threat of filing the grievancepot negotiating the agent, or
this back injury fake or not fake was a factor.
And sadly I have thirty one twenty one Eagles, all right, bye.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
All right, all right, yeah, I mean I think that
there's a lot everything was a factor here as far
as why it got done. And and yes, Jerry has
had a history of dealing with players directly. You know,
this one was different. Myka Micah was you know, he
(04:02):
not only did he throw a trade request out there,
but it was very lengthy. He's very detailed him and
how in what he said in his social post. And
you know, I think at the end of the day
it looked like, you know, they were taking great steps
to to to neither not play hold out. I mean
(04:25):
it was hold in until you start missing games unless
there's an injury involved. And you know, I saw some
clips of him practicing, you know, didn't seem like there
was a back injury. And in fact, let me just
say this, that's not the first time that a back
injury has been threatened and mentioned to not play football.
(04:46):
That's not the first time that that's happened. I'm talking
about with Micah parsons career. Not the first time he
mentioned it. I believe it was last year or two
years ago of that. I mean, it came out I
guess from sources that a back injury was possible if
he didn't get his way. So when we heard about
the back injury, it's not the first time that that's happened.
(05:07):
Either way. Let's uh, let's let's keep it going. We
got Casey Joe. He's in Kansas City. What's up.
Speaker 7 (05:13):
Hey, how are you.
Speaker 8 (05:14):
Doing, Nick?
Speaker 1 (05:14):
How are you?
Speaker 9 (05:15):
I'm doing good.
Speaker 7 (05:16):
Hey.
Speaker 9 (05:16):
First, I want to say thank you to Michael Parsons
for what he gave us during the time. A little
sad about him going, not happy about it, but hey,
you know, it is what it is. And but I
think our defensive ends I'm very excited about him. I
think they're going to do well. I'm happy with him
and our offense. Of course, you know, we got the
three wide receivers Pickings turping and you know out there,
(05:41):
you know, and.
Speaker 7 (05:41):
So I think I think we're going to look good
this year.
Speaker 10 (05:44):
Still predicted a lot of wins.
Speaker 9 (05:47):
I'm just excited for the season.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
I'm ready for Thursday, all right, And.
Speaker 7 (05:50):
That's all I got.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Brother, Thanks appreciated that. You know, talking a little bit
with with Dak yesterday earlier this week in the locker.
But you know, Dak was saying just about how teams
are gonna have He's not sure how teams are going
to try to to play this offense, but you could
tell that he was excited about he hasn't had this
(06:12):
many weapons in a long long time. And when he did,
when they did have CD, CD wasn't at that level
that he's at now. But but still CD Amari. I
mean they they they had some some guys there, but
I don't think Dak said he didn't think his game
was is as good as it is now. So you know,
(06:32):
the last few years of the stuff that he's picked
up and and and now he's got the receiving help
and just he just he's excited about it. And he
was just excited about even being in third and long.
They they have the confidence they can pick that up.
They're not worried about it as much. So he's excited
about how shot he's gonna call the plays and call
(06:52):
the runs. So it's it seems to be a positive
atmosphere with offense, and I think that's what's going to
have to win some games. Has go out there and
just keep scoring points. Let's go to Sebastian and Savannah
and Georgia.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
Good morning, sir, I'm doing well. I can tell from
the video here that you're doing well. I have a
fifteen second scott and report for the Eagles. While we
lost one player, the Eagles lost many players, including big Play,
Big Play Sleigh and Josh Sweat. So that line that
helped them get to that thirty four to zero lead
over Kansas City is pretty much gone. As you heard
from Dak Prescott, we got a real man and a
(07:26):
real leader in Ken Kenny Clark. I'm very excited to
see what they can do how we win this game.
Keep Jalen Hurch contained, he plays shotgun majority of the time.
Pressure him down the middle with Donovan Wilson, because I
think that that safety blitz is going to be a
big help in this game, but I don't believe we
get it. My honest prediction is thirty one to twenty
four Eagles. I think it's a very close game, but
our secondary needing the help that it needs, we can't
(07:48):
get it done. But guess what, we beat them in
the second and third game, which are more important. You
have a great day, and I'll hang up and listen.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
All right, I like that second and third game. Yeah,
definitely caught that, all right. I mean you're right. Offense
is going to have to do their thing and but
the big question is this the defense, especially without Micah,
question is is how they get pass rush. We had
a mailback question earlier this week about you know, who
replaces the sack production twelve and a half sacks? You
(08:14):
can do that two or three here, three here, four here,
But it's the pressures for me, who replaces the pressures?
One guy that you can count on to go out
there and get pressures and get sacks. That's what you
don't have. And I think that that that can be
and now you can develop that, but right now that's
not what they have. And let's see if somebody emerges
(08:36):
as to be that guy. All right, let's take our
first break here on Cowboys storyline. We'll be right back
after this.

The Cowboys storyline.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Back here on Cowboys Storyline where we get a chance
to listen to the fans. See what you guys have
to think, have to think about the Michael Parsons trade,
which you want to talk about the Cowboys Philly game.
Cowboys leave for Philadelphia on Wednesday afternoon and game is
Thursday night, and you guys know that has been circled
(10:41):
for a while. September the fourth, the NFL kickoff as well.
Saw stat where the defending champions are twenty one and
four in the last twenty five years. Coming back and
defending the title, of course, the you know, the ring ceremony,
the banners, all that stuff. Twenty one and four. Now
they have lost two out of the last three. And
(11:01):
one of those other losses was by the Cowboys to
the Giants back in twenty twelve, so you know it's
happened before. But you know, tradition suggests that the defending
champs are still pretty good and they come out and
they take care of business. We'll see if that that
is the case on Thursday night. All right, let's go
to the phone lines. Lesser in Lakeville, Minnesota, Leicester, what's up?
Speaker 8 (11:27):
Good morning?
Speaker 1 (11:27):
Next are you?
Speaker 8 (11:30):
I've been better man. I stood upset about the trade
and all, but I'm not gonna do my grievance this
morning because we're gonna be a positive. We've got a
game Thursday. Dak is four and one against Philadelphia when
he starts and finishes the games, so we're gonna look
at that. And as I always say, we need an
(11:53):
offensive and defensive line. We did it addition by subtraction,
but I don't understand that. But anyway, got a run stopper,
so we should be able to stop the run now,
and I predict the Cowboys win twenty one twenty No Cowboys,
all right, it's.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
The first prediction of the Cowboys that we've had a
lot of pressure on. Kidding Clark, you know, I mean,
it's a really good player, but I mean I just
feel like the first time Sakuon Barkley goes up the
middle for fifteen yards or something, I mean, the whole
press box, everybody's got a joke, everybody on Twitter will
(12:32):
have that all stop the run. I mean, like he's
not He's not the savior when it comes to stopping
the run. I mean's he's been here a couple of days,
He's I think he's going to help. He's certainly going
to help over time, but you know, he's gonna have
to learn that the whole system, and they're gonna have
linebackers are gonna have to learn, you know, how they're
(12:53):
playing behind him and Osa and those guys working together.
I mean, I just don't think you're gonna see, you know,
Barkley's stat line of eight carries for twenty four yards.
You know, I mean, it's not going to be like that.
But you know, overall, they're going to have to do
their part and get provides and push up the middle,
and those pass rushers are going to have to do
their thing on the outside too. So yes, I think
(13:16):
he will definitely come in and help. He'll be better
than what we've seen from a tandem of defensive tackles.
But I just I don't think it's all all's going
to be fixed stop of the run just because getting
him in here. All right, Brian and Kansas City's next.
Speaker 10 (13:32):
Good morning, sir, How are you. I'm doing good? Thank you? Hey.
I wanted to say my prayers are with Leroy Jordan's family.
You know you've had a career. When your college coach
was Bear Bryan did your professional coach was Tom Landry?
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Yep?
Speaker 10 (13:49):
I mean wow, really so yeah. The I also wanted
to say the Coach Joe documentary that you guys did, yeah,
I thought was extorted. At six decades to watching football documentaries,
that was as good as anything I've ever seen. Nick, congratulations,
really well done, brother.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
I appreciate that I worked pretty close with a guy
to Thomas Blakey, he was outstanding. And Tony Avazano, Joe's son.
I consider him a friend. We went to college together,
which said it was shown in the documentary and it
was it was an honor to be able to tell
that story to him. So I appreciate you you watching
that and saying that, Thank you absolutely so.
Speaker 10 (14:33):
For the game. Yeah, I'm going to go with you know,
statistics are there for a reason, and boy that we
are just not quite caught up to them, and they're
the defending champs until somebody knocks them off the mound.
I'm going to say thirty one to twenty Eagles, but
I think by October our team will gel and we
(14:53):
will be a different team the next time we face them.
Speaker 14 (14:56):
Thanks Nick, all right, thank you?
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Yeah. I mean I haven't even thought about a score yet,
but I don't. I don't predict the cowboys of victory here,
And I mean, and I don't feel bad about that.
I mean, why why would we say that? Why what
have we seen to say that they've closed? The gap
was seventy five to thirteen and the two losses last
year combined. Dak didn't play in those games. But is
(15:20):
he that much different? Is he gonna be? Is he
gonna make up that much of a difference? Is Pickens
and this whole offense We don't know because we haven't
seen it, and that was by design. That's something that
Shady definitely wanted to do. They didn't want to show
anything at all with their star players or any kind
of wrinkles in the offense. So we haven't seen what
we're going to see. So that's fine, that's the way
(15:43):
we want it. But as it stands right now, what
we have to go off of is the Eagles won
the Super Bowl last year. They were the best team
in football by the end of the year when it
counts the most, and they won it, and they're gonna
they're gonna get the rings to prove it. They've lost
some players, a lot of their key players though that
made them so good or still back and the Cowboys
have some new new faces as well, but they lost
(16:04):
their best player too. So nothing that we've seen really suggests, yeah,
they're going to go at now. Weird stuff happens. Well,
my man Brian brought Us always says football's a crazy lady.
She sure is, and maybe she's gonna be crazy on
Thursday night. But as it stands right now, what we
have to go off of them is that Cowboys have
to make up a lot of ground on Philadelphia, all right,
(16:25):
Robin Vegas. Okay, Nick, how are you doing?
Speaker 15 (16:31):
I'm doing good? How are you?
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Ah good?
Speaker 16 (16:32):
Good?
Speaker 17 (16:34):
Uh?
Speaker 15 (16:34):
On the MiCT thing. Yes, As for entertainment purposes, I'm
gonna miss him. Like you said, he was fun to watch,
exciting as a Cowboys friend. You know, we weren't. We
weren't winning with him in the sense of getting, you know,
past the first round of playoffs. And I felt that
if they paid him, they still wouldn't be able to
(16:56):
win because he wouldn't build around him. Obviously. Now I
look at it like, maybe he'll take that money like
you just signed Bland, and he'll sign some more players, right,
maybe make some moves with these picks, and overall we
will be a better team. It's all on Jerry and Stephen.
Now I agree with you. I don't think we're gonna
be Philadelphia. I think it's a double digit loss. It's
(17:20):
hard to win there. But like you said, they're gonna
hang the ban at the place is gonna go crazy.
And I don't know what this cowboy teen is yet.
So I know Dak has a lot of success. I
think the outfits baby could do something. I'm just a
little leary on the defense, but I think Kenny Clark
is definitely gonna help. You know, if we're honest with Michael,
(17:40):
were always weak in the middle. Our strength is the
pass rusher. So go Donovan as a.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Rocut all right, all right, Rob, appreciate that. Thanks for
the call. You know, if you haven't, if you haven't
watched the show a lot, and we get some new
follow allowers, viewers, listeners. Robin Vegas is the he's the
captain of the all storyline team, which we've had for
(18:08):
the last couple of years, and and he one of
the captains. I apologize he's one one of the captains,
but he's the guy that I think a lot of
people want to hear from on any kind of move.
So the last show we did, he after the trade,
I don't believe he was able to call in. So
thanks for doing that calling in. Yeah, And you know
we mentioned it about what what the Eagles have and
(18:29):
what what the Cowboys have and the Thursday night the
smoke and the banners and the and all that, all
the fireworks. But Dak said something interesting earlier this week
when he said we have to go throw the first punch,
and and he says, you start with the jab.
Speaker 7 (18:44):
You know.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
He always you got to start jab jab and and
and keep swinging. He knows that it's got to be
more than just one punch. But I think that's very
important though. I mean it's it's a nice cliche thing
to say, but it's very important for him to go
out there and have that mindset and say we're gonna go,
We're gonna attack them. Let's attack them early and jump
on them. That'll help the confidence. That will also maybe
(19:07):
quiet the crowd a little bit and also show the
Eagles that, hey, last year's last year. This is this year.
All right, Let's go to Robbie and Coco Beach, Florida. Robbie,
what's up?
Speaker 10 (19:15):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (19:16):
Nick?
Speaker 16 (19:16):
How you doing today?
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Good Man?
Speaker 14 (19:17):
How are you?
Speaker 1 (19:18):
What you got for me?
Speaker 15 (19:19):
I'm great?
Speaker 10 (19:20):
Hey, sold to keep it quick, so I'll definitely.
Speaker 7 (19:22):
Run through it.
Speaker 10 (19:23):
A shout out to Gillette for being our new sponsor.
Speaker 15 (19:26):
Thank Gillette.
Speaker 16 (19:27):
A shout out to Yetti for our beautiful cups from
last year.
Speaker 7 (19:29):
I never so thank you for that.
Speaker 15 (19:31):
And I'll ask you one question though, listen off the air.
What three things we have to do to beat the Eagles?
Speaker 1 (19:36):
All right? Three things to beat the Eagles? First, thing
I think that they have to do is get off
to a good start. I said it a second ago,
and I definitely believe that they can't be playing from behind.
They can't be thinking all last year is last year.
You know, the same old Cowboys, new coach, same old stuff.
They need everybody. I think it's important to establish something
very early in the game. Then doesn't mean you have
(19:58):
to be up fourteen nothing, just means you have to
show them that you're here to play an early touchdown
and early defensive stop, sack, that kind of stuff. Second
thing I think that they have to do. I mean
this is basic, you know, cliche football, but you have
to establish a running game. You have to figure out
a way that you can be balanced here and show
That's the one thing we don't really know is how
(20:18):
they're going to run the football. That's a key thing
is showing that they could run it and then on
you know. The third thing they've got to do is
definitely stop it. I mean stop that run. Stop Barkley
and Hurt. Figure out a way to put them in
passing situations and then you know, we'll see who gets
off the edge. So getting off the field, I'll just
say getting off the field on third down. However you
(20:38):
do it, whether it means stopping a short run or
that means blitzing off the edge or getting there with four,
whatever it takes, there's gonna be third down situations you've
got to get off the field. And so if you
can put your offense up, you know, out there, keep
Philly at bay. I think that that's going to be
a huge, huge mark for the Cowboys. All right, let's
take another break here on Cowboys storyline, and we'll be
(20:59):
right back after this.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
To Cowboys Storyline.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
All right back here on Cowboys Storyline presented by Gillette.
And if the show kind of looks like a little
different format, it's because it is just so y'all know,
this is why we've already take taken a couple of
breaks already. We we do it on Tuesdays. We have
a TV show that that is taped and it's played
on Fan Duel used to be Bally's and Fox Southwest
(22:33):
and all that. So, uh, you can you can see
that in the I guess a five state area in
different locations, but they play that on Wednesday, so we
tape it. We have to kind of do a few things.
That's why we have to get a few breaks in there,
and it'll be the first part of the show. So
if you call early in the show, you'll you'll you'll
make the TV show. This part it's just for you
(22:55):
guys on on the on the web and on the
on the app, and kind of like we always do.
But still I want to hear. I want to hear
from you guys. The show doesn't change. We got another
i'll say, twenty minutes or so with no break, So
let's get it rolling. Do we still have Chuck d
Is that right?
Speaker 7 (23:11):
That's right?
Speaker 1 (23:12):
How you doing, Bud Good?
Speaker 17 (23:14):
Hey, I want to talk about the running game. Don't
really know much about Javonte. We didn't see much of him.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
No, we didn't.
Speaker 17 (23:21):
We can just look at past the film. It seems
like he's more of a bruiser. But I just want
to see how guard see against him. I know they
got some studs over there. We can get that rolling.
That can lead to so many other things, and I'm
just excited to see that.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
Yeah, I'm excited to see Javonte Williams. I think that
he's got more speed than I than I thought he
had for his size and in the in his running style,
and he is kind of a bruiser. But as it
stands right now, I think he's he does all of
the things, you know, probably it added all up. He's
(24:00):
better all the way around than anybody else that they
have at the moment. And we'll see if Jaydon Blue
can can take that that leap or how Miles Sanders plays.
But I think he's your best option on third and one,
Chavonte Williams. I think he's your best option on third
and nine as far as picking up blitz and then
also sneak out of the backfield catching the ball. He's
(24:20):
had fifty catches in a season with the Broncos, so
you know he's he's a threat out there as well.
And I just think he's your all around best back
as it stands right now. So we'll see, we'll see
what what he has Thursday night.
Speaker 17 (24:34):
All right, thank you Nick.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
All Right, Chuck, appreciate that. You know, the running running
game is just it's just a mystery, and it's one
where I don't know what Miles Sanders is going to
be able to do. And Jayden Blue as well. I mean,
I like the quickness that we saw just in a
few carries, but I definitely think he's he's a guy
that's going to get better and better. Want to see
(24:57):
him out there. I want to see him on this
stage on Thursday night, you know, with the world watching.
Want to see what happens when he runs right up
the middle there and there's you know, was a Zach
Bond a linebacker. Of course, he got the big boys,
Dalen Carter and Jordan Davis. I mean they they they
still have those guys in the center. But that's what
(25:20):
Jayden Blues got to do. I mean, he has he
can run to the outside. He's not gonna make a
living there in between the tackles, but he's but he
has to do it. I mean, as a running back,
you want to be a starting running back, You've got
to be able to run the ball and you know,
in between the tackles and and show what you can
do as as a you know, with the entire running game,
I mean, Miles Sanders, you know, Hunter Lipkey's gonna get
(25:42):
some some carries. I would imagine he's gonna play on
the field some you know, I thought, as we as
we wait to I don't think we have any more
phone calls right now, eight eight eight eight five five
to two nine seven lines are open. We still have about
twenty minutes of show. So definitely, if you get a
chance to call in, do so. But but I'll say
I'll say this about, you know, the the injuries. I'll
(26:06):
say this about the injuries. Yesterday, looking at the injury report,
it was it was good news for the Cowboys. I mean,
Tyler Guyton at left tackle has been practicing. He looks good.
He was in full participation. Trayvon Diggs was in full
participation and that that was a surprise to me that
he was able to do that. I think he's gonna play.
I don't think he's He may not start, but I
(26:28):
think he's gonna play enough. They don't have a lot
of options at corner. I think he's gonna be out there.
He may not play a ton that may he may
be on some kind of a pitch count, but I
do think he's going to be out there good to go.
That that was a good sign. Brevin span Ford tied
end also on the injury report, but but at full participation.
He hasn't done anything since early in camp, first padded practice.
He had a high ankle sprain. So for him to
(26:50):
come back that helps things. The only guy that did
not practice was perry On Winfrey, defensive tackle. He's missing,
he'll miss some time, and it may be it's tough
for him to get back and playing this game, especially
just a couple of days before kickoff. All right, let's
go to Rick. He's in Massachusetts. Rick, what's up, bud?
Speaker 17 (27:09):
Hey doing?
Speaker 8 (27:09):
Nick?
Speaker 17 (27:10):
I was the weekend?
Speaker 1 (27:11):
It's good? Pretty good? Ready, it didn't It didn't feel
like a weekend. It felt like a Wednesday and the
Thursday and all that. You know, that's what these weird
games do. They kind of mess up your schedule. You
never know what day it is. It doesn't feel Labor
Day and all that. It just it feels like a
Friday around here because we're leaving tomorrow.
Speaker 7 (27:26):
You know that.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
That's what it feels like, which is good though. Let's go,
let's do this thing.
Speaker 9 (27:30):
Yeah, I would just say it.
Speaker 15 (27:33):
In my heart, I think Cowboys.
Speaker 10 (27:35):
Wins, but my brain says are gonna lose.
Speaker 17 (27:38):
So I'm to take gagles like thirty one, twenty four
something like that.
Speaker 15 (27:43):
So have a good day and talk to you later.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
All right, thank you. Smell a theme here with you
with the fans that I think the Cowboys are going
to lose. We've seen it from Irene, Sebastian, Brian and Rick.
And the scores are Eagles thirty one, twenty one thirty
(28:06):
one twenty four thirty one to twenty thirty one twenty
four thirty one. Huh maybe and and and that that
seems about right. I think for this team to be
you know, if the Cowboys just be able to surprise anyone,
they're gonna have to get there. I mean that that's
they're gonna have to get to thirty or or you know,
in this case more than thirty one. But but there,
(28:29):
that's what's gonna take for this team. I think to
kind of open some eyes and surprise people and be like, oh, yeah,
they're better than I thought. It's this offense. The offense
has to be, you know, better than we're we're giving
it credit for. That offensive line is going to have
to hold up, has to hold up. And I think
the one thing that's going to be very interesting here,
(28:50):
and I'll say this as we still wait for some
more callers, but this is the cat and mouse game
that that that that the Cowboys are going to have
to play h to their advantage. Is so the Eagles
vic Vangeo. That defense is always he's always been really
good at attacking. We've seen it when he was with Denvers,
with Miami, with Philadelphia. I mean, he's always a really,
(29:11):
really good defensive mind. He's given this team some some fits.
But the cat and mouse part of that I'm talking
about is, Okay, so are you going to blitz? Okay,
do that blitz. They got to get the ball out quick.
They're gonna get the ball out quick. Guys like CD Pickings,
They're gonna have to make plays, catch the ball and
and make plays and and you know, basically break tackles
(29:32):
because you're gonna have to get the ball out quick.
So that being said, the Eagles secondary gonna gonna cheat in,
gonna play close to the line of scrimmage, is gonna
contest those those quick throws and make the tackles. Okay, great,
Now what happens when the Cowboys say, all right, we
are max max protecting, we are not letting you get home,
and the Eagles are playing right there at the line
(29:54):
of scrimmage, That is where I think that they're gonna
have to take advantage and go deep. We just haven't
seen it a lot in recent years. I think you're
gonna see it more this season. I think you're gonna
see it more Thursday Night. If I could say one
thing that Dak has done better than you know, any
other thing that I've seen in recent years, the one
(30:16):
improvement that I think I've seen the most this training
camp and is his deep ball.
Speaker 8 (30:22):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
Not only is he connecting more, but it's in stride.
I think I've seen that at least ten to fifteen times,
and it's usually it's both of them. It's it's Pickings
and and CD. And I'm I'm, I mean, that doesn't
mean that the Cowboys secondary has been that great and
they've been beating guys that that aren't aren't the best.
(30:43):
But you know, there's still there's still gonna be CD
and Dak are still gonna be better at receivers than
the Eagles are gonna have at corner. So they're still
gonna be able to beat those guys. And that's gonna
be a key element is can they throw it deep
when the Eagles are playing close to the line scrimmage
and making sure that you know, because Pickens is a
guy that on third and six, third and seven, he
(31:05):
can catch a one or two yard pass. If he
gets an angle, I mean that long stride of his
is gonna be ten yards right off the bat. So
he's a guy that you have to kind of get
in his face, and by doing that, good luck because
if you miss on the jam and he gets to
the outside, He's got a step or two on you.
He's a big play, big catch, radious guy. And I
think that's gonna be the the kind of the back
(31:27):
and forth, a little bit of the are they eagles
gonna jam? Are they going to have guys over the top?
And then with all of that, what does the middle
look like? Is Ferguson is turping Tobert? Are those guys
going to be able to work it there in between?
All Right, we've got a couple more callers here, case
in Los Angeles? What's up?
Speaker 14 (31:45):
An happy kickoff week? Trying to get stoked, need to
move past the Micah feel, you know, just to feel
better about it and kind of totally leave it behind.
I feel like we could have gotten a little bit more, maybe,
but everybody's been talking about the culture of this team,
and not to blame all that on my cup, but
(32:06):
if that was the cause of not having the culture
that everybody wanted. This is a cohesive move and I
think collectively with the new start, with Shoddy and doing
what they want to do, hopefully they can move forward
and have everybody on the same page. That being said,
it's going to take a while to make up for
the loss of him, but stopping to run has obviously
(32:30):
been a huge issue with this squad, and if this
moves us towards that, I really know what's going on
on offense, I think it's going to take some people
by surprise. And just to add on what you were
talking about, Pickings, if this dude gets in the right
mind frame, he can be one of the top receivers
in the NFL. So I'm actually super stoked to see
(32:51):
what these guys do on Thursday, and now having a
bigger chip on the shoulder, How great would it be
to see these guys take the Eagles down in front
of every buddy?
Speaker 1 (33:01):
Yep, all right, I appreciate it. Casey, You're right, you know,
talking about Pickens, you know he he looks and I
don't know because I didn't, I didn't we obviously didn't
know him when he was at Pittsburgh, and just kind
of the stuff that you hear about and and and read,
and you know it's it's everybody's different, you know, when
(33:22):
when when they get to a new team, and that's
the same. Like I know, there are people in Green
Bay that are covering you know, Micah Parsons and fans
that are watching him, and they paint the picture of
this guy, this this diva that you know, cowboy, even
the Cowboys of all teams, Jerry couldn't keep him. I mean,
this guy must be he must be crazy. So then
they watch him and they's you know, it's like, oh,
(33:44):
he seems like a good guy. Well yeah, I mean,
of course the same with Pickens, same thing. You know,
it's like, wow, I wonder what happened in Pittsburgh this guy,
you know, he does seem more mature. He seems like
he's in a better place. And sometimes that happened. You
just that's what you need. So Pickings specifically, I think
that he is just happy to play to play football
(34:07):
here with the Cowboys and in this offense, this pass
happy offense. He's just happy about it. Pittsburgh just wasn't
the style as far as the ground and pound and
also the defense mentality. This is a little bit more
wide open, and I think that, you know, he's just
excited to be here. Now. The question I always have is,
and this isn't just with Pickens, It's not even with CD.
(34:28):
We've seen CD have some tantrums on the sideline. They
We've seen guys that wore eighty eight that had tantrums
on the sideline. It's gone on forever. And the reasoning
is is they think that they need the football to
win and they're not getting it. And a lot of
times a good way to shut that up is to
give them the football because they're not wrong, so to
(34:51):
have you know, CD wants the ball, Pickens wants the ball.
Let's see what happens if the Cowboys don't win a
game and they don't really get the passing game going
like they thought, and you know, let's see how how
great things are there. It's a great connection right now
between CD and Pickings and Deck. You know, if it
(35:11):
doesn't go like they wanted to, then you know that
that's where some of those those issues come up. But
I think that they're going to get the ball. I
think that that's the game plan is to get those guys.
That's how the Cowboys are going to have to win
this game, in any game, is to get their playmakers
the football. All right, let's go to we have first
time caller Gerald port Allen, Louisiana. Is that right?
Speaker 16 (35:32):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (35:33):
What is up?
Speaker 16 (35:33):
Mann to sign again and something?
Speaker 10 (35:38):
All right?
Speaker 1 (35:40):
There we go first time. Yeah, I can see how
you kind of laid it out there.
Speaker 14 (35:46):
I love it all right.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
I don't know where port Allen, Louisiana is, but you
know what, we don't have time to figure out the map,
so it's Louisiana. It's somewhere in that boot. Gerald, what's up.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
Real quick?
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Uh?
Speaker 16 (35:59):
I'm glad the situation where Michael got got taken care of,
so we you know, leave that alone. My question is
what do you feel like we need to have more
the linebackers you have more focused on going into this
first game. I mean, obviously it's a ring game, but
do you think they will be more beneficial to help
more in the ring game or we need to, you know,
have somebody focus on like the tight end and you
(36:22):
know that intermediate past game as well. That's my question.
Glad to get the chance talk to you and I'll
listen it offline.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
All right, thanks Carl, Uh you know what makes the
Eagles the champs. I mean there they were the best
is There isn't one thing. I mean, that's what makes
them good. That's that's what I mean. Hurts is A
is A is a runner. He can throw it, he
can throw it deep. I mean A J. Brown is
(36:50):
a possession guy that can get you the ball in
third and five, third and sixty, also can go fifty
to sixty. Same with DeVante Smith. Dallas Goddard's pretty good blocker,
He's pretty good down the seam as well. Barkley is
a good runner. He's a good pass catcher too. It's everything,
It's it's everything, and that's why that's why they they
won it last year. That's why they've been one of
the best teams for the last few years. And that's
(37:12):
not to be you know, it's not to say, wow,
there's no way you can win. But that's what makes
them great. And so linebackers, good luck. The focus is
all of it. You know, when you were taking that
test and you're like you're sitting there and going, all right,
is it A that looks like a pretty good answer.
I think A B. It could be B C. It's
(37:35):
definitely C. D all of the above, d that's the answer.
That's the answer. With the Eagles, it's all of the
above on that when it comes to their offense. So
I'm not trying to dodge the question. I'm just saying,
you know that Jack Sanborn and Kenneth Murray can't just
sit there and go Barkley all day. No matter what Barkley,
we're gonna stop him because that's where the pass goes
(37:57):
over his head, That's where Goddard goes down the seam.
So it's gonna have to be a game of them
dictating things as well. It's not just it's not just
gonna be well, we gotta They're gonna have to be
all right, we're blitzing. We're blitzing here all out or
this thing. You know, we're fake blitzing. We're coming back
this time. We're gonna roastwo rushers off the edge here,
We're gonna go corner blitz. They're gonna have to do
(38:18):
things that the Eagles haven't seen. That's the one advantage.
It's not a great advantage, but the one thing they've
got is that I think people know what the Eagles
are going to do for the most part, and as
far as what eber flews and this scheme's gonna do,
and definitely on the offensive side, it's the one thing
that they don't really have, so the Cowboys are gonna
have to take advantage of that. That's why scoring early,
(38:41):
getting early stops is big, because after a few possessions,
teams start figuring it out. When they figure it out,
it's nice if you're already up ten points or seven
points or whatever. All right, Aaron in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Aaron,
what's up?
Speaker 7 (38:54):
Not much?
Speaker 1 (38:55):
How you doing something good?
Speaker 16 (38:56):
Good?
Speaker 1 (38:56):
How are you?
Speaker 15 (38:57):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (38:58):
Doing great?
Speaker 4 (38:58):
Man?
Speaker 7 (38:58):
Doing great? Beautiful day here, sunshining, wonderful day. Hey, just
a couple of quick things. One, I'm all okay with
the whole Micah Parson's trade. You know, I think he's good.
I think he's a very good player. I don't think
he's great, though, because I think all the great players,
you know, they have all the intangibles, and there's just
definitely some things, you know, with how how it all
played out, and just some of the rummas we're hearing.
(39:20):
But but you know what, I'm perfectly fine with that
because I think you know, from what I've seen, you
know here right now, and recently he's some of the
best actual football decisions I think our front office has made.
And I know we gave up a good player. But
one thing I kind of agree with what everybody's saying is,
you know, we lost our best player. We did Zach
(39:41):
Martin retired because I think he was probably the best
player on our team the last you know, last big run.
But but other than that, you know, I'm excited for
the season, man, I'm ready for Thursday night. I really
like the vibe that I've seen from the entire time
since we named coach Schottenheimer as our head coach, just
his whole approach to everything, the coaching staff, you put
(40:03):
together all of that, and I think that's going to
wind up paying dividends for us. You know, it might
not early in the season. I think somebody earlier said
there might have men you you know, some maybe October
this thing will start to gel and then I think
we're going to see that show up in the win
column as we get through the year. And about the
game on Thursday, man, it's a division game. As we know,
(40:24):
anything can happen between NFC East arrivals, and I can
very easily see us going up there and spoiling their
little party Thursday night. So I don't have a score,
but I think we're going to win it on a
late Brandon Aubry field goal and the quote Nate Newton,
we only got to win by one, that.
Speaker 1 (40:41):
Would be great. All right, thanks for the call, Aaron.
I can promise you this. If that happens and the
Cowboys win this game, we're going to come in here Friday. Now.
I'm just so you know. I just saw the itinerary.
It says we're supposed to land at four am. And
I don't live that close to the airport. And that's
just landing. That's just wheels down at about four am.
(41:03):
That's not getting taxing, getting down, getting your bag, getting home.
I mean, it's it's it's sleep at five, and it's
it's waking up at seven. Take the kids. It's gonna
make yeah exactly, yeah no, but listen, listen here the
When that happens, though, like the Cowboys win this game,
(41:25):
it won't matter. It really won't matter. One hour sleep,
two hours sleep, no sleep, won't matter. The energy level
for that show is gonna be off the chart if
it happens. Now, the Cowboys have to do their part.
But I can promise you this though, it will be
one of the one of the best shows of all
time if the Cowboys can do that. Not to say
if they don't win, it's not gonna be a great show.
(41:46):
We're still gonna have fun, We're still gonna talk about
it and break it down. But I'm just saying, man,
it won't matter how much sleep that that you have
or don't have, because I know this, I have to
do one show. Chris Bean has to do seven shows,
so he's gonna he'll be ready to roll. All right,
Let's go to Sergeant Sues and four Worth. What's up?
Speaker 3 (42:03):
Addis everybody?
Speaker 20 (42:04):
How you doing?
Speaker 17 (42:05):
Nick?
Speaker 1 (42:05):
Good? Bud?
Speaker 20 (42:06):
All right, man, so check it out. I was listening
to uh Dak's you know interview, you know, the press
was asking him questions and stuff, and somebody asked a
question about like how do you what do you say
to the guys that haven't experience, you know, like the
hanging of the banner and all this and all that,
and Dak kind of like smirked a little bit, almost
as if he was like, what kind of question is that?
Because he said, you know, I don't know if you've
(42:27):
been to our games. But you know, we got the smoke,
and we got the loudness and the fire. We have
a lot of distractions too. So you know what, man,
that kind of pumped me up because Dak prescoffs like
Eagles who Super Bowl?
Speaker 16 (42:38):
What?
Speaker 7 (42:38):
It don't matter.
Speaker 20 (42:39):
I'm picking the Dallas Cowboys. Brother, this is every day
for us. And that made me feel like bro, I
forgot that Dak is daddy.
Speaker 4 (42:45):
I forgot that Dak.
Speaker 20 (42:46):
Is the Eagles daddy, And it don't matter. There's no
more vanilla. Pickens is back. I mean, Pickens is here.
I think Pickens gets involved early and often. Fergie Ferg
gets the first touchdown and the Eagle and the Eagles
they fall the Eagles. The Eagles fall to the Dallas
Cowboys thirty to twenty seven. Look, I know, you know,
twenty seven points is a lot. They're gonna run the
ball up and down. They're gonna they have great wide receivers.
(43:07):
They got all kinds of stuff going on. But you
know what, man, I just think when Dak Prescott is back,
you know what I mean, Call Dak what you want,
but he's the leader of this football team. He's not
afraid of the Eagles. Never been afraid of the Eagles,
you know what I mean. And hey, when he's healthy,
it's hard to take him down. So hey, I got
Dallas winning thirty twenty seven. I'll how that challuys Friday.
Speaker 8 (43:25):
Thank you, Nick?
Speaker 1 (43:26):
All right, see it man, good stuff. You're right, Dak.
He's confident. There's no doubt about it. I sensed that
yesterday and just talking a little bit off the record,
but he was just kind of, you know, just just
chatting a little bit. You can kind of you you
can feel the energy. You could also see like the
confidence there. So all right, let's go to a last caller.
This will be a Josh in Chicago, real quick, Josh.
(43:48):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (43:49):
Hey, Nick?
Speaker 21 (43:49):
Last time I talked to you was right before training
camp started. Right when he started training camp. I said,
the biggest thing I was concerned about was whether you would.
Speaker 7 (43:55):
Get a hat.
Speaker 21 (43:56):
Yeah, I tell you, I got a lot of concerns
about this football team right now. But I'm gonna quick
Thursday night. I'm not concerned. This team's ready. They're hungry,
they're gonna go out, They're gonna be chilly. I don't
care about the score. They're gonna win, all right, all
I got for you?
Speaker 1 (44:07):
All right, that's all we need. I love it. I
got a text from Joe and Stamford and he just
said he wanted to let me know the Cowboys are
gonna win twenty eighth to twenty four. I couldn't call in,
but he definitely wanted to contribute as well. So start
it out with a lot of Eagles picks. It's kind
of been half and half now, and you guys are
picking the Cowboys as well. All right, let's go one
(44:28):
more very quick break. We'll be right back here on
Cowboys storyline.

Definitely the guys in the back, Kevin and Chris doing
a really great job for this show. It's a little
different format, but you to get fifteen callers in. I
know Chris warrened it. It warned you guys like, hey,
(46:03):
let's go quick. You guys did, but still provide it's
a very very good content, so I appreciate that, guys.
It was a lot of fun to break this thing down.
We're here, it's football season. It's here. The next time
we talk, we'll be talking about a game. No more vanilla,
