Speaker 2 (00:11):
This is Cowboys storyline presented by Gillette, the official shave
of the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Here's Nick Eatman, good.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Morning, Welcome to Cowboys storyline presented by Gillette. Thursday, December
the eleventh. A lot of birthdays rolling around here today,
including Mickey Spagnola. Make sure and hit him up on
mix shots if they take calls. I don't know if
they take calls over there, but make sure and wish
him a happy birthday if you want to. But we're
(00:46):
gonna talk Cowboys football, not the weather here today. Cowboys
vikings eight eight eight eight five five two two nine seven.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Let's get after it. Davion and Illinois. You're first.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Under God. What's going on happening?
Speaker 5 (01:04):
Man?
Speaker 4 (01:04):
I'm good.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
I just want I just want you just say what
it do? What it do?
Speaker 4 (01:10):
What it do?
Speaker 6 (01:11):
What it do?
Speaker 4 (01:11):
My boy? What it do? What it do? Man? A
couple of things in the core prediction first phase. First,
this is my plea to our d C. Can you
please now let JJ McCarthy look like a better quarterback
than he has shown up to this point. I just
(01:32):
could you, please, for the love of God, do not
let this dude have a career day on our defense.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
I mean, like like Jakobe Brissett, bow Nicks, Bryce Young, Russell.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Wilson, Bruh.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
It's it's ridiculous how I.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Mean, they made Smith look like Geno Smith.
Speaker 4 (01:53):
That's what they need to do, right, Just this guy's
he's struggling. This is rookie season. Just just do what
you gotta do to make him struggle so we can
get through this when we get to the next week. Secondly,
the Tray Diggs sake shouting in press covers has some
interesting words for saying that we're really gonna bring them
(02:17):
back if it's a good thing for us at him.
The choice of wording is kind of interesting there. I'm
not sure what's going on. I kind of wish we
can kind of have some kind of finality to this
because it's started to look like more like a tank
situation from last year, but something, because I think the
(02:40):
guy can help but apparently they don't really think he
can help en much. So I don't know, but it's crazy, crazy,
how just getting down. I think the score of the game.
I'm gonna stick with my thirty one thirty one I think, well,
actually thirty four seventeen, thirty four seventeen and we got
(03:01):
a space tonight. Been by jump on on Twitter later on.
But yeah, man, what.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Time is what times the spaces start?
Speaker 4 (03:12):
They started? Seventh Central eight Easter.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
All right, seven.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Go for a couple hours, Yeah, go for a couple
of hours. I just please lose. Don't make it. Don't
make it, don't make don't be don't be there. Please.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
All right, sounds good, Thanks Dave y'all. Good, good stuff.
Good way to kick us off. You know I've said
this before. Remember the the NBA Finals when Michael Jordan
just kept hitting threes. I mean, he just he was
surprising himself. He just you know, the famous like shrug.
That's what this dig situation is. That's where I am.
(03:49):
I'm just I don't know every I don't know. I
don't know what shot he was saying when he was like, well,
it's got to be good for us, gotta be good
for him. You know, he's got to do the right things.
I don't I don't know, I don't know what's what's happening.
I wish I wish we knew, but you know, you
(04:11):
want him to play, but you also want him to
play and you know play well. So it's kind of
like that coworker who shows up and they're sick or
they're not you know, tired or whatever it is. It's like, yeah, okay,
you can be here, but if you're not gonna be
worth crap, then just go home. And I'm not saying
that's the thing with Trayvon Diggs, but if he's not
(04:32):
doing the right things to to be on the field
and to be good when he's on the field, then
doesn't really matter, you know what I mean. So if
he's not prepared at all, that again, we're all speculating,
and that's the thing. That's that's what you know, we'll
probably get ourselves in trouble here because that's what they've
left us to do is just kind of speculate on
this whole thing. It's it's weird. It's a weird situation.
(04:55):
Don't know what's going on. And I'm with you, Davion.
I'd like to see I'd like for it to end
one way or another, but it probably will when the
season's over all. Right, let's go Casey Joe in Kansas City. Man,
we think we got problems in Dallas.
Speaker 7 (05:07):
Good morning, how are you doing this morning?
Speaker 4 (05:09):
The good?
Speaker 1 (05:09):
What's going on?
Speaker 4 (05:11):
Hey buddy?
Speaker 7 (05:11):
Hey, I a few weeks ago, people were talking about
how we should resign Davis, you know, the running back
right away. Well, I'd like him to give MafA and
Blue a little bit more of a chance too. I
don't think i'd want to race out and resign Davis
right away. I'd like to see him maybe go to
camp and see if he could come back, but not
(05:32):
resign him.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Yeah, I don't know if you have to resign him.
I mean, I again, you know, he was he's in
the NFL because the Cowboys put him in the NFL,
and that's it. That's the only reason. I mean, he
wasn't with another team. He did have a nice touchdown run,
and he's doing some good things, and he's a good
special teams player. You know, there may be a spot
for him someway, you know, one way or another. But
(05:54):
I bet you from a priority list standpoint, he's not
really up there. But yeah, I mean he's out aid
those guys and outworked them and and and made himself
more valuable as a player. So that's why he's on
the field right now and those other guys aren't.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Yep, that's true.
Speaker 7 (06:10):
I mean, he is doing his part, and I think
Shoty really likes him. Yeah, but hey, do you think
we can put Rob in Vegas and Jerry in a
room and let him work at their their situation out well?
Speaker 3 (06:21):
I bet I bet Rob would would like that more
than Jerry, you know, as far as like a questions
and stuff like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's funny. It's funny.
Speaker 8 (06:30):
You know.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
It all kind of goes back to Jerry. You know
it is, and that's just the way it is. Doesn't
matter what it is, what happens. It doesn't matter if
if you're talking about Shotty, it doesn't matter if the
sun gets in Pickens' eyes.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
It's always about Jerry.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
And that's say, when you own the team, you're the
general manager, you're the president, you're everything.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
That's what happens. That's what happens. It's come from the dinner.
Speaker 7 (06:51):
I'm really happy with Jerry this year because he's went
out of his way to bring in Pickens, and he
went and got Quinn Williams and you know, and he
went and got Logan he he's trying to improve the team.
I mean, some owners will be like, hey man, that's
the team, that's the way it is, and I'm not
going to replace him during the year, you know, but
Jerry's trying real hard.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Yeah. Well, hey, I don't.
Speaker 7 (07:13):
Have much, but hey, my score for this week is
twenty seven Dallas twenty seven to twenty four. I think
that's I think that's what it's gonna be.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
All right, sounds good. Twenty seven to twenty four Cowboys
over the Vikings. You know, going back to what Daveon
had said about about JJ McCarthy, and we've just seen
it too many times.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
We've seen it so many.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Times this year where you know, the Cowboys have have
you know, faced a quarterback that just isn't what you
would isn't one of those guys that you you'd be
scared of, and they go out and they have their
best games.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
It's funny.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
It's like the guys that you are afraid of that
are going to play well. Mahomes Mahomes played played well.
I mean in Hurt played pretty well too. But Jared Goff,
those guys, they you know, they they they heard him
at times. The Cowboys still figured out a way to
win two of those games. And really, Jared Goff wasn't
(08:12):
the guy that was killing you as much as the
running back was. But yeah, but these other quarterbacks have certainly,
certainly had had their their best games. I think at
one point five of the nine quarterbacks had played their
best games against the Cowboys. I'm not sure where it
kind of stands right now. All right, eight eight eight
eight five five two two nine seven. I think the
(08:34):
lines are open right now, unless Chris, do we have
a call?
Speaker 1 (08:39):
We do? Yes? All right, Anthony and Miami. All right, Anthony,
what's up man?
Speaker 9 (08:44):
What's what's going on? Nick the Quick?
Speaker 4 (08:46):
What's up?
Speaker 8 (08:47):
My guy?
Speaker 1 (08:47):
I'm good? How are you doing?
Speaker 9 (08:50):
I'm pretty good man, I'm pretty good man. This has
been a crazy week. You know. I'm in Miami, and
I do shot somewhat of a science security world high
profile will say, Okay, he's an entertainer's an athlete. It's
a it's a knowledgeable lover of the Cowboys. Now my
(09:12):
call is basically kind of what he said, two things
on what he said, and then my score. So I
don't want to go on and want to bore you,
but he this has so knowledge. We said about the
defensive backfield. He said, man, we could have won two games.
This is his lineup. He said, these are our guys.
He said, he wants laying in the slot.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Time out, time out, because you're your phone cut out
probably at the at the at the most important part
of your call.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Who are you talking about here?
Speaker 9 (09:40):
I'm a high profile celebrity and I don't want to
say the name that loves the cowboys. You can hear
me now, I'm moving around straight enough in the house.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
Okay. Is he over seven feet tall.
Speaker 9 (09:53):
Pretty much? Quarters? Yeah, something like that. And my boss
knows him real well, so you know, it's one of
them things, you know. We two brothers. We're talking and
he just said he gave a lineup on the defensive backfield.
Speaker 8 (10:09):
Man.
Speaker 9 (10:09):
He said he wanted Rebel, the little kid with the knee,
And I say Rebel, and I don't know if he
was ready, but he said he wanted him and Digs
at the corners playing in the slot. Carson and he
said that guy we picked up, he's like a good
slot and ready. I said, ready, store it right kind of.
I agree with him on that. And I'm gonna tell
(10:29):
you where this is going. This is what I'm saying
when it comes to football in this it could have
if that would have worked in a perfect world right,
could have saved us and partly could have got us
two games with that solidarity back there. But what you
have to do moving forward is just get what you
have right now. You got to get your best stuff
on the defensive field. I like Kenneth Murray. I think
(10:50):
he's a downhill thumper. So I think he's in the
wrong defense and a lot of people don't like him.
He's in the wrong defense. He's a great line he's
a good linebacker, but he's just in wrong And so
get the best you can and then going forward next,
sure you build on your defense. Your defense has to
be a focus. Now you've seen where you lack on defense.
Qewis help you. She will help you, and Clark has
(11:12):
helped you. Now what you need with great defensive tackles
any football in my nose, a great pass rusher, a
good pass rusher, and a good solid linebacker. So work
on that and you'll be all right. So by him
saying that, it kind of made me figure you're right.
So we got a hope and pray that we can
win these last four and flip. Okay, all right, Anthony,
(11:38):
win the damn.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Warm thanks for the thanks for the calls or your
phone was cutting in and out. But I think we
got the gist of it. You said you talked to
a high profile celebrity cowboy.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
Fan in Miami. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
I was going with Shaq. That was my prediction on
that one. I can't see Shaq breaking down the defensive.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
Back to the line. Maybe.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Anyways, what you're saying, Anthony is right, fix the defense,
of course. I mean, that's that's what a lot of
people are saying, and it's something to build off of.
I mean, it's not like you got to fix like,
you know, six or seven positions you need. You need
another linebacker in here that that's that's pretty good, another
pass rusher. You need some cornerback help too. So you
(12:22):
know that that should be the focus, and there's no
doubt about it. But I do think offensive tackle is
still going to be a spot where you need to
look at, even if it's in the first round. I
think offensive tackle is not solidified at the moment. All right,
Ronnie in New Jersey is next, right.
Speaker 8 (12:37):
How are you doing, Nick Good?
Speaker 10 (12:38):
How are you running not too bad?
Speaker 8 (12:40):
He nick? Yeah, No, I don't think we're that far off.
I'll be honest you. I think the defensive coordinator is
the problem. Dan Quinn came in. When he came in
and took over. Uh that that disaster of a defense
that we had under McCarthy's boys, his coach, his friend whatever.
(13:01):
And you didn't let Shoty take out his defensive coordinator.
So what do you expect every guy and not get it.
He was a brand new coach, but every guy shot
he brought in has made a difference with the offensive line,
with the running game, with everything he has touched so
far he has made, not gold, but he has way
(13:22):
better than when McCarthy had done. I'll give him that.
And the defense I think now that we have finally
have defensive tackles. Yeah, a pass rusher would be nice,
you know for next year, and then just whatever, you
get the best best available. I will get a linebacker.
But aside from that, I think this this defense is
not that far off. You just need the right defensive coordinator.
(13:45):
That's all. That's how I see it. What do you think?
I want to get your opinion? What do you think
about the defensive coordinator.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
Well, you're only as good as your last game, is
what sounds like running thanks for the for the call,
and I doing knowledge that you had the right score.
I think it was the Chiefs game. He hadn't called
since then, but I think he had the right score.
Thirty one twenty eight on the Chiefs doesn't happen a
lot A lot of people throw the score out there,
but just to hit it right on the nose, good
job on that one, you know, I say.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
That is you know, three wins in a row.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
We're not talking about flues because you know, other than
the fact that, hey, things are turning around, give him
some players. Maybe he's got a good defense. That was
the narrative. And then they go give up forty four
points to the lines. It's like, well, new defensive coordinator,
and I get it. That's that's the way that it goes.
I think you have to look at the whole thing,
and the whole the whole season so far has.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Not been good.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Now, the Micah situation is always going to linger there,
and it's going to linger when dan Quinn. I mean,
we want to say how great dan Quinn isn't And
believe me, I think he's a great coach, but he
only coached here with Micah, and I think we're seeing
that Micah makes your defense better or worse if he's
(15:01):
there or if he's not. Go back to last year
as well. Last year with Zimmer, they weren't you know,
they weren't good at all without Micah. Mike comes in
the last few weeks of the season. The last half
of the season, the Cowboys led the NFL and sacks
and he was a huge part of that. Another guy
started to get more sacks too. We're seeing it in
(15:21):
Green Bay as well. So he great players make you
a great coach as well. And I'm not saying that
dan Quinn isn't. But what we saw was was with
you know, obviously with with Micah here and now what
we're seeing with Fluis is he's not here. They don't
have a pass rush. They did add some other players
later in the season to a trade, and it's gotten better,
(15:42):
but but not to the point where you know it's
been it's been really good.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
I mean this this was in.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
The training camp when you're looking at it and you're like,
all right, you know, Overshrown's going to come back at
some point. I think people thought it was going to
be a little earlier than he did. And Mike is
going to sign at some point before the season, and
Trayvon Diggs is going to to come back and he's
going to play, and Bland's going to get back to
the level that you expect, and all of these things,
and you just signed Osa and and Fluce wanted them,
(16:08):
and he's going to take off and have a career
year and all these great things, and it hasn't hasn't
materialized for a lot of little reasons.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
So I I'm not.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
Saying to replace him, but as I said yesterday, I
think Schottenheimer's got to be. Shottenheimer's got to feel comfortable
with that guy. And if he is, great, but you know,
it's been documented that he was hired before, you know,
with what Schottenheimer before Schottenheimer and or at least put
(16:39):
in place, and so you know, maybe maybe maybe that
was his number one pick, who knows, but that has
got to be.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
They've got to.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Be better there, and there there's no doubt about it.
So you know, make sure and with free agency and
draft and all that that that the pieces are in
place to make them better. And and I think that
they can be, but it's it's slowing down the offense
for sure. I mean slowing down the team because you're
just forcing the offense to be absolutely perfect. And you
(17:09):
know that they've had a couple of games this year
of twenty seven thirty points and didn't win, and and
and you should be winning games like that. Let's go
Jr and Avindale, Arizona.
Speaker 8 (17:19):
How you doing, Hey Jr?
Speaker 1 (17:20):
What's up?
Speaker 8 (17:21):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (17:22):
Hanging in there? Hey? This game. I'm talking about this
game a little bit. And then I got a question
for you, a little story and a question. But really
cares me about this game? Of course, I said the
other day Aaron Jones, he just wears us out and
I hope they have a plan for him. But kind
of when they played the Cardinals, I was on the
call and I said that that Marvin Harrison Junior has
(17:43):
not played well for the Cardinals and they would focus
on him, and they did, and we didn't really do
anything about it. That but the Cowboys and Justin Jefferson
hasn't had a lot of targets, so they're gonna they're
going to feature Justin Jefferson. I just hope they don't
put drawn Bland out there all by himself ten yards
off at Lina Scriviage. It's gonna kill us. They armon
(18:06):
Saint Brown. I'm on Ron Saint Brown. He was hurt
when the first play the game. They go target him
and get him the ball. So I hope they have
a better plan for Justin Jefferson because he's gonna get
a lot of targets in this game.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
Yeah, who's there? Who's the other guy? Addison? Is his name? Addison?
Speaker 5 (18:23):
They got They got Addison and their tight end they
feature him a lot. But yeah, Justin Jefferson is going
to be the guy.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
No, there's no doubt.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
But what I'm saying is is maybe maybe this week,
you've had ten days prepare, Maybe maybe Bland follows Addison everywhere.
Speaker 5 (18:41):
That's what I'd like to see it happen.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
And then and then double team Jeffersons is what I'm saying,
or at least shade the safety out. Yeah, I mean,
I haven't really seen that that style before.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
I know that used to be back in the day.
Dion would do it.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
He'd shut down Harper and then they would try to
double team Michael. Didn't always work well. But I mean
it's a it's a strategy. It's probably a better strategy
than Bland. Sorry, Bland all over? Jefferson, All right, Jay,
are you still there? You have anything else?
Speaker 5 (19:10):
Yeah? No, you know my concern is. You know, I'm
not a brain surgeon. I don't work on rocket ships.
But everybody knows that Marvin Harrison was going to get
thrown to him and they didn't do anything about it.
They just let it happen. And that's what my concern
is on for this week. And the last thing I got, well,
let me give you my score real quick. I think
(19:31):
it's going to be thirty one twenty Cowboys, okay, and
I just got one one question, see what you think
about it, and I'll try to hurry. I was watching
the Carolina film the other day and my daughter walks
in from shopping with her mom, sitting there with their starbucks,
and she points, She goes, what's that guy doing? I
which guy? Shows that guy? She doesn't no football at all,
(19:52):
she said, when he was go over and chase that guy,
he went and caught a ball, and of course it
was Channce Murray not doing anything in doubt, will catch
in a pass and running for thirty yards. But my
question is, at the end of the day, why isn't
I just want to see where Schottenheimer is on this
Kenneth Murray saying, and at some point you're you, You
(20:16):
sit in that seat and it's your responsibility. Why isn't
I don't think Kenneth Murray should be out there, and
you know, my opinion doesn't matter, but I'd like to
Schottenheimer get involved in that, even Jerry get involved in that,
because you traded for a guy, so play him. That's
all I got. Nick, Thanks a lot, have a great day.
I'll tought you soon, all right.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
Thanks.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
I think the elephant in the room here about why
is Murray playing? Why is Murray playing? And nobody wants
to hear this, but what if?
Speaker 1 (20:44):
What if?
Speaker 3 (20:45):
The answer is is when the guys that are over there,
and I'm pointing to the coaching side and the scouts
really not the coaches, not the scouts, the coaches, the
defensive coaches, your head coach, all that, at the end
of the day, when they value wait situation is Kenneth
Murray is the best option that we have at this
(21:06):
position to do these things.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
And he's not good enough.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
Okay, But he's the best one that we have, better
than these other guys. I think that is the answer,
And that is not good because you guys don't want
to hear that because it's not good enough. That I
think is the reality of this thing. Is the guy
that you don't want to see because he's not making
(21:31):
enough plays is the best that you have. I've seen
it here before at this position. I'm not gonna name names,
but I've seen it at this linebacker position, where the
guy that you want to be better than he is
is the best one on the team. So you better
fix that at some point. It may not be a
(21:51):
fix right now, but you know, it's what Indianapolis is
dealing with.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
A quarterback.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Their best option is a forty four year old who
out of retirement. I mean, that's what does that say
about the NFL and then the quarterbacks? You know, and
maybe that's who they think is the best option. But again,
I don't necessarily know that. I'm just I would like
to think from what we've seen, they're not afraid to
make changes. They're not afraid to shot. He's not afraid
(22:18):
to bench players. So if Kenneth Murray is still out
there doing and playing. I think that that's who they
feel like is their best option. So let's go to
break real quick on Cowboys storyline.

The Cowboys Storyline presented by Gillette, the official shave of
the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
All right, welcome back to Cowboys Storyline presented by Gillette.
You know, we didn't do a Precision Player of the Week,
but if we did, should be Ryan Flinoy. Ryan Flanoy,
I thought it stepped in nicely for the injured CD
Lamb and he might have to play some this week
as well. But remember, with Gillette, precision isn't just for

your morning shave. It's how the Cowboys compete every day

was Ryan Flinoy. Remember go to jellette dot com slash

let's go to the phone lines, Josh and Chicago next.
Speaker 14 (24:55):
Oh man, how you doing?
Speaker 1 (24:56):
What's up? What are right here to?
Speaker 5 (24:57):
Right here?
Speaker 1 (24:57):
A kid in the background.
Speaker 14 (24:59):
Yeah, we've got the flu running through the house since
last Thursday, so I'm coming through it. But now my
wife has it, so I'm home.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
Still the gift that keeps on giving, huh.
Speaker 14 (25:08):
Been one of those those weeks, man, you know how
it is.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Well, we've been talking about eber flus, so now we
can talk about a different kind of flu season.
Speaker 8 (25:17):
Oh yeah, there you go.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
What's up?
Speaker 9 (25:19):
Man?
Speaker 8 (25:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 14 (25:19):
Hopefully thanks man. Hopefully I know the players get it.
That's a big thing too, right, Hopefully they all stay
healthy because there's still a chance of this thing. That's
the only reason I called, And I've been listening all
week trying to figure out a way to get up
and make a call. But you know, hopefully we the
players can stick with this because we we're stilling it right.
Philly's broken and we still have a shot at this thing.
So that's my biggest thing. Hopefully the defense bounces back.
(25:39):
I know the defensive line is going to bounce back.
Minnesota's got some weapons. But we've got a chance here,
So let's go out and get it.
Speaker 4 (25:45):
All right, Happy week, Nick, All.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
Right, thanks for the call. Still got a chance, that's right.
That's you know that old Jim Carrey line and uh,
dumb and dummer. Yeah, it's like you're saying, there's a chance.
Phi Philly is leaving the door open for you.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
I mean, Philly, Philly's doing what your parents would yell
at you for in the summer, you know, close that door.
I don't want to have air condition of the whole neighborhood.
Well that's the Philly's doing. They's got the door open,
like anybody want to come in, Come on in. We
don't feel like shutting it. Give everybody some air. And
that's uh, that's what's happening. And so until until that,
(26:25):
I mean, I keep saying it, until you see that
asterisk that says eliminated. Got to keep fighting. So all right,
let's go to Katie Henderson, Nevada. Katie, what's up, Pink?
Speaker 1 (26:38):
How are you? I'm good? How are you doing great.
Speaker 15 (26:41):
I'm gonna apologize if I'm a little repetitive. I'm out
walking my dog. So while I was calling, I wasn't
able to hear every caller, but I had to respectfully
disagree with you a little bit about the flue stuff.
I totally understand what you're saying, where good players make
good coaches, and we see not you know this Belichick
and Brady, but I just think about Aaron Glenn and
you know, all the issues they have last year with
(27:03):
their defense and all the injuries and him missing some
of his best players, and he still was able to adapt.
And I'm just concerned that Bluth, you know, hasn't consistently
been able to, you know, have the adaptations, get creative
when things break down. So I'm still a little concerned
that he's just not the right fit. Thank you so
much for taking that call.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
Thank you, and he thanks Katie. He may not be,
I mean, he might not be.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
And I'm really talking more about dan Quinn than I'm
talking about anybody else as far as as what we've
seen when a guy is here and when he's not here,
and we all know that players may make you better.
I mean there's no secret to that that they started
playing better against the Raiders, the Eagles, and the and
(27:47):
the Chiefs after they they got Quinn Williams and after
they got Logan Wilson, the Lions figured out a way
to kind of expose.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
That a little bit. So we'll see if that was
just a small sample size or not.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Don't think anyone would argue that players make these guys better.
But but I'm not coaches can make the player better too,
which is I think to your point. And it's and
it's true. So there's a give and take here. You know,
when we talk about the phrase, you know, coaches are
supposed to adapt to their players, and the players are
supposed to adapt to.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
The coaching too.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
So it's got to be a give and take and
and and it hasn't been.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
It hasn't been. I think when you overall at the
end of the year.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
When you look at the defense, when when one side
of the room and Jerry's sitting there going all right,
what what's what do we need to do to fix this?
And say there's ten twelve people, coaches, executives, whatever, and
they say this half says we got to get better players,
and this half says, yeah, the voice in the room
isn't isn't right. It's Jerry's job to say, well, both
(28:52):
things might be true, both things could be true. Coaching's
got to get better, players got to get better. This
isn't a black and white situation. I think it's a
lot of great in this one. All right, let's go
to Amarillo, Texas.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
Troy.
Speaker 7 (29:05):
What's up, hey, man?
Speaker 4 (29:07):
How's it going? Man?
Speaker 3 (29:08):
Good?
Speaker 1 (29:08):
How are you doing?
Speaker 6 (29:10):
Doing pretty good? I was nick, I was talking about
a friend of mine to day and I was talking
with him and he were saying, I said, did you
listen to the conversation that Jerry had? I think he
was on one oh five to three of the fan
It's been maybe a game or two ago. But I
don't I don't think this coordinator or any of these
coordinators are going to go anywhere, really, to be honest
with you, because he said in retrospect, I think he
(29:32):
said that I goes That's the one thing that I
really would like to take back is the continuity that
we've had. Our lack of continuity, man, you know, at
the coordinator positions, having different coordinators all the time. So
I think that they're probably going to hold onto these
guys you know and stuff. But I think it's nick
I really. I mean I've been watching this team, and
I know a lot of people get mad and everything.
(29:52):
I think, you know the way they play at times,
but I think they're a little closer than than what
people think they I mean, they just need a few things.
And I just remember this defensive coordinator. He's one of
those guys that went from worse to first in like
a year or two. I mean, if you look at
his uh, you know where he was at before. So
I'm just kind of giving the benefit of the doubt
(30:13):
then and then plus what Jerry said, I don't think
the guy's going anywhere.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
Yeah, that's a great point, Troy.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
I appreciate the call good stuff, good insight, and paying
attention to what Jerry said. He exactly did say that.
It was about a week ago. That that and a
lot of it too. I mean, it's kind of what
I'm talking about with like players and coaching, like they
kind of have to help each other. I don't I
don't even know what's going on with Mozzie Smith. I mean,
(30:40):
I'm not sure if Mozzie's playing well or playing at all.
With the Jets. I really don't know, but Mozzie's one
of those examples. And the reason why I bring him
up is is, you know he's he was here, this
is his third year. He had three different coordinators. You know,
is say they do move on from Flus looking at
it Overshown Overshown. This could be Overshown's fourth year here
and over and would have four coordinators. Continuity is needed.
(31:04):
Uh did it bother Micah? No, not really because Mike
and Mike's got another coordinator in Green Bay and and
and you know, I've never coached the defense before, but
if I was the defensive coordinator and I had Micah Parsons,
I would be like, hey, rush from over here.
Speaker 5 (31:21):
You know.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
I would be like what Bill Kawer said to Greg
Lloyd in that old NFL film's clip where you've seen
a thousand times where he goes up to Greg Lloyd
in the middle of the game and he says, rush
the quarterback. That's what I would do. That would be
my job if I was the coordinator. So my point
is is that if you have really good, badass players
like Micah Parsons, not that hard throw out there, if
(31:43):
you have to really do coaching. Some of these guys
actually need a little bit more than that. Then having
three different coordinators in three years or what a lot
of people are asking for four and four years, it
is tough to have some continuity there. So I thought
that that's a really good point. And I think if
(32:03):
the defense can show some improvement here, these last four
games are probably important for for others, you know, and
important for the staff. Go out there and shut some
people down, because if it looks a lot like the
Lions game for the next month, then you might see
some some big changes. I don't think Jerry wants to
(32:23):
make a change. But if you play like if you
keep playing like you've played, and and you have some
games where you're you're letting these these quarterbacks that aren't
so great just just light you up and up and
down the field, then could be a problem.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
I'm telling you this.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
I mean the Chargers, I mean Herbert if he's if
he's spending it and and and you know, the Cowboys
have no answers there. That could be a long long
day as well. So they they definitely have some weapons,
and they got a lot of different guys, and he
can throw the ball around, so they're gonna have to
figure this out now. Obviously Minnesota's first. I'm not trying
to skip ahead, but I'm saying is that Cowboys defense
(33:01):
needs some really good games here down the stretch, all right.
Michael in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Speaker 16 (33:07):
Hey, I got a question if David's is our best
option next year for the draft. We don't have a
second or third. We're not going to draft running back
with a first round pick, So what are we gonna
do about that situation?
Speaker 8 (33:23):
Oh?
Speaker 16 (33:23):
By the way, Dallas twenty eighth, Minnesota ten.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
I don't see it. I don't see it that much
of a blowout. I think this is gonna be one
of those games that comes down to the to the end.
I just I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't
see that.
Speaker 16 (33:39):
You know, Like yesterday I said, you know, we got
to get the running game going. I think we will,
and we got to shut down Jefferson. I think we will.
So that's why I'm going twenty eight tens. But I mean, yeah,
if this is the best we got, I mean, what
are we gonna do? Trade it is? You know, trade
for another running back? You're an offseason toy.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
I think this would be the year that you draft
somebody I mean I I and not in the fifth
round and not someone who was a backup in his
on his previous team. I'm talking about a guy that
that could run run the football. Second round, third round.
That's that's I think it's time to do that. And
I know you need to help on defense. I mean,
I get it, I mean you I. I really think
(34:23):
the Cowboys are going to have to move some picks
backwards more than anything because they need some better quality picks.
They have a lot of picks. They're gonna probably need
better quality picks. And I you know, no second third
round pick right now, so I would imagine that one
of those first rounders gets moved back.
Speaker 16 (34:39):
If not both, well, I'll be looking forward to watching that.
Then I'll be thinking about your comments when I say it,
I hope, I hope you're right.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
M Well, I appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
You know, everyone talks about the Notre Dame running back,
which you know, I'll be looking forward to see him
in the playoffs. Oh, I mean or in the Oh no,
I guess not. I guess I'm not ever again, But yeah,
I have.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
Thoughts on on the college football playoff.
Speaker 3 (35:08):
But not really for this show. Ole Miss running back.
I don't know where he stands as far as draft
prediction and all that. I haven't really looked at that
Ole Miss running back. I think his name is Lacey.
He looks good to me. He looks like a good
NFL prospect type.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
Again. He could have a sixth round grade or no grade.
I really don't know.
Speaker 3 (35:29):
But when I watch him, and I watch SEC football
a lot, I see him and I think he's he's
pretty good. He looks like a good NFL type back.
Let's go to break here on Cowboys storyline. I'll be

Hey, mister Nick, how you doing, buddy? I'm good, I'm
doing well. Thank you.
Speaker 9 (37:12):
Hey.
Speaker 19 (37:13):
I just have a couple of things. I'm gonna as
far as this game goes, I'm gonna go ahead and
pick the Cowboys to win this twenty eight to twenty four,
just because I think that JJ already had his breakout game,
so maybe it won't happen against US. Okay, So that's
that's my reasoning there. Now I have a question for you.
(37:34):
It's like an all timer question, and you've probably been
asked this before, but anyway, just humor me, I guess
the Mount Rushmore of Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks? Who were your four?
Because I think that there's two no brainers, But I
think depending on how long you've been watching the Cowboys,
(37:55):
it can get really dicey.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
Yeah, after that, who's yours? I mean, let's just say, Okay,
Troy and Roger?
Speaker 1 (38:02):
Who else?
Speaker 19 (38:03):
Okay, it's really tough. That's almost why I asked you.
But I'm going to go with Danny and Dak and
I not don't really have a reason except Danny was
the catch away from probably becoming a super Bowl winning
quarterback in my opinion, and Dak mainly on the realm
(38:27):
of you know, he's got you know, he's holding some
records right now. But there, you know, there's like my
dad would say, he would tell you he would fight
you about Don Meredith. Yes, I mean that was his guy.
He used to say, Well, obviously, if you knew anything
about Don Merrithy, you know how you know he's how
(38:48):
likable he is. Yeah, my dad, My dad would have
argued that guy was tough as nails too, and he
was a drake QB in his time. But anyway, I
just wanted to see what you thought.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Now, that's a great question.
Speaker 3 (39:03):
I'll say this, and and Chris, before you hang up,
let me ask you this. The ball, the ball's on
the twenty eight yard line. Your on twenty eight yard line.
You have two minutes and twelve seconds to go. You
gotta score a touchdown. You got seventy two yards, you
got some time, got some weapons, seventy two yards to
(39:23):
go score in a couple of minutes.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
Who do you want?
Speaker 19 (39:28):
That's a well, that's almost no. It's gotta be Rogers, Okay,
Roger and Troy.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
We already put them on the list. Now the other
guy is who do you want?
Speaker 3 (39:36):
Because I'm gonna tell you right now, give me Tony,
give me Romo. That's in that scenario with the game
on the line, I'll take Tony. And so for that reason,
when I look at that, because O, there's you know
you can do different eras, different different times, different awards
and records and all that. But I when the game's
(39:58):
on the line the fourth quarter, I'll take I'll take
Romo to drive him down the field.
Speaker 19 (40:02):
Okay, yeah, you're right, Yeah, already Roger saying, but who
so clearly, who are you for?
Speaker 1 (40:08):
I'll go with I'll go with Roger, Troy, Romo and.
Speaker 9 (40:12):
Dak Okay, really all right? Great question, good man.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
Great question. I have I feeling people are going to
throw in theirs as well. Good stuff, Chris, Let's keep
it going. Let's go Dylan, Northport, Florida, Dylan something.
Speaker 10 (40:26):
Man, Hey, how you doing. I'm good, you, I'm good. Listen,
Christ from San Angelo and I got beef now because
how is he going to disrespect my boy Tony like that?
Speaker 1 (40:36):
Well, I mean, it's a great question.
Speaker 3 (40:38):
I kind of wish it was earlier in the show
because I have a feeling and it's one of those
you can just kind of throw in there quickly, you
know what I mean, like like who would be here for?
Speaker 10 (40:50):
Well, you know, I wasn't around during during the older years,
but obviously, I mean, I guess you got to put
stollback and Akman in there. I didn't get to see
them play. But if Tony is the quarterback I grew
up with, you like, that was my first time, you know,
I was I was in I don't know, third fourth
grade something like that when Tony got to start, so
uh not even that, No, I was even a little
(41:11):
old than that. Anyways, he was the first quarterback we
had where I was watching the game and I'm like, wow,
that you can have a team that's actually like good.
This is crazy, and the quarterback has a lot to
do with it. But that's the guy I grew up with.
And I think he got a raw deal of injuries.
I know, he was the glue team together, you know
all those years, eight and eight years without him would
have been a worse team, you know than that. But
I think he was.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
He was the diaper. I mean that, You're right what
I always called him, the diaper. He take the diaper off,
doesn't look so good. He covers up a lot of crap.
Speaker 10 (41:40):
So yeah, there's so many instances where he just got
kind of screwed. The Creighton stopped running his route. I mean,
he threw the game when he touchdown pass against the
Giants and O seven and Creighton stopped his route at
the corner.
Speaker 8 (41:50):
So that was the game.
Speaker 10 (41:51):
The game was over at that point.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
So he's right, it's the It's not the Creighton drop
that hurt this team.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
It was the Craton back shoulder of the zone and
stopped running, stopped stopped running.
Speaker 10 (42:06):
It's sickening.
Speaker 1 (42:07):
Yeah, now you have got it.
Speaker 3 (42:09):
Yeah he would have because ironically enough, Creighton had absolutely
great hands.
Speaker 1 (42:14):
Yeah he did. That's what sucks about it.
Speaker 10 (42:16):
Yeah, and just think about I think about it all
the time. How like the NFL history, it would have
been changed. Eli Manning might not be a Hall of
Famer because we all know he's getting in because of
the Super Bowl wins, but he might not be a
Hall of Famer without Creighton stopping his route like it's crazy,
well and catching it and all.
Speaker 1 (42:32):
That good stuff. All right, So I guess you're putting
Rabu in, but go ahead ahead, was my.
Speaker 10 (42:39):
Dude, Romos, my guy, So he's in. I only just
tuned in I hurds and talked about eber flu. So
I just want to call in and just real quick,
you know, I don't want to ever like root for
a guy to lose his job or anything, because that's
just kind of a crappy thing to do. But to
be fair, you know, we're in operation max stack mode.
We talked about it all the time to twenty twenty eight,
you got you got a small window, so I guess
(43:00):
you got a way out. Is it better for the
continuity's sake to try to get this thing righted next year?
Or is it quicker to bring in a guy who
who might be available to write the year. I want
a DC or coordinator who elevates the bad players, like,
of course you're bringing twenty Williams. Of course you're bringing
better players. You're going to be better, like I would
be better as a coordinator with better players, Like I
want the guy who's going to elevate the worst players
(43:21):
to be average players, and the average players be you know,
good players and all that. So that's that's my only
kind of beef with him, is I'm not sure he's
done that this year?
Speaker 1 (43:28):
Yeah? No, I'm with you.
Speaker 3 (43:29):
And I think you can always make that argument too
about about you know, older coaches. I mean, the game's
changing all the time and you want to I mean,
you got to roll with it. You can't just say,
well this worked ten years ago. This worked fifteen years ago.
I mean that's not what's working on offense now, so
you have to kind of adapt with it as well.
Speaker 10 (43:50):
Yeah, and if I have seen any more Campus two
with Kenneth Murray run down the field and going to
pull my hair out, and I'm baald as hell Man
trying got your hair.
Speaker 3 (43:56):
But yeah, all right, all right, so I gotta keep it,
all right, Dylan, all right, we got to repeat. Caller here,
Ronnie in New Jersey's calling back.
Speaker 8 (44:05):
I'm sorry, Nick, listen, Oh.
Speaker 3 (44:08):
You gotta have a score. If you're the last one
to have a pick, you gotta have a score.
Speaker 1 (44:11):
What's up?
Speaker 8 (44:12):
Yeah, that's what Actually. I was like, oh man, I
forgot to call him. I give him my score. But yeah,
I was, as I heard you saying about Kansas City. Yeah,
I was like when I hit it, I was like,
oh wow, I got it right. Yeah, And I was
trying to make it to the next game, but to
give you the score. But I knew it wasn't going
(44:32):
to be good, So I was like, you know, I'm
not calling here for that one, all right, but I
think it's gonna be there's going to be a low score,
I mean low scoring for what we usually scored, but
I think it's going to be thirty one twenty four Cowboys. Okay,
all right, and thanks for taking my call again.
Speaker 1 (44:52):
All right, sounds good?
Speaker 3 (44:53):
All right, we have one more caller. Yeah, let's do
it one more Sergeant Sue, let's do this thing.
Speaker 5 (45:00):
He's everybody.
Speaker 20 (45:00):
How you doing, Nick, I'll be quick. Hey, I was
gonna ask, And I guess people can enter on the
next show what players that they feel has been playing
okay but needs to take that next step to really
help us make a push. One player that I feel
like is playing okay but can take the next step
is Revel. He's been playing not bad. He had a
bit of a hiccup game, but I'm hoping that he
can grow from that. He could watch the film, he
can gain a.
Speaker 9 (45:20):
Little bit more confidence.
Speaker 20 (45:21):
And I think something that will be really smart is,
like you mentioned earlier, putting him across from Jefferson and
having safety help, giving him that like tough challenge not
so great quarterback to kind of give him some confidence.
I do think that that will help him grow going forward.
And I think that a final score will be thirty
one twenty four Dallas. I'll hang up thank you so
much for.
Speaker 4 (45:40):
Scooking me and brother.
Speaker 3 (45:41):
All right, man, good stuff. That's two in a row
from thirty one to twenty four scores. Can you imagine, like,
let's say that that does happen. Let's say Revel's the
guy and he goes up against Jefferson, and then he's
gonna have some help at times, but sometimes he may not.
Speaker 20 (45:57):
You know.
Speaker 3 (45:57):
It's just like I like your offensive tackled, you know,
going up again. It's a great rusher. Every now and
again the guy will chip, but sometimes he's not. So
you're gonna have to be out there on an island
at times. Imagine if that happens, where Revel goes up
against Jefferson and the Cowboys win the game and he
has a couple of nice plays, Jefferson doesn't really go
(46:17):
off and maybe, who knows, maybe Revel gets a pick
or something. We would talk about that game all off season,
you know, all off season going into next year. The
talk on Revel would be injured. Halfway through the year,
he comes in, he plays a little bit, They threw
him out there.
Speaker 1 (46:34):
He had some good moments.
Speaker 3 (46:36):
Remember that game against the Vikings when he played really
well against Jefferson.
Speaker 5 (46:39):
You know.
Speaker 3 (46:40):
I mean, it'll be those type of things that we
talked about. This is an opportunity for Revel to do
that kind of stuff and to have that and that's
what to me, that's what I look at for the
final month of the season. Yes, I want the Cowboys
to keep winning or to win and maybe you know,
ride this thing up all the way and get a
chance to get in the playoffs and then you never
know what happens. That doesn't happen, then you know, what
(47:02):
else are you looking for? But we're still doing the show.
We're gonna do it every day, so we'll be talking
about things like that. And so who's playing Okay that
can take that next level?
Speaker 1 (47:13):
Revel?
Speaker 3 (47:14):
Who who else? How about Overshown? Overshown's come back from injuries,
done pretty good, made some plays here and there. Let's
take that next level though, I mean it's it's the same.
They both were injured. Now they came on, you know,
four games ago or so. Now we'll see if Overshown
can take that next leap as well, because they really
(47:36):
need it and they obviously need him to do that.
And I'd like to see Shamar James kind of get
back into you know, making some plays that as well.
Now he's not playing as much because Overshown's taking snaps.
It's just like Logan Wilson is. They're taking snaps from
some of these guys. But I'd like to see Shamar
James kind of, you know, as a rookie year, maybe
(47:56):
do a couple of things sort of the end to
kind of get his arrow moving forward as he moves
into his second season. All Right, good show, guys, another
thirteen callers. We'll do it again tomorrow and do more
score predictions and kind of wrap up the week as
we head into the Sunday night game against the Vikings.
All Right, guys, for Chris Beam, Nick Heatman, we'll see
you tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (48:15):
On Cowboys Storyline.
Speaker 2 (48:16):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
