The following.

He is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
This is Cowboys Storyline with Nick Eapman. What's up? Welcome
to Cowboys Storyline. It's Wednesday, April the thirtieth, Almost done
with April here last day before we get to May
and keep this thing rolling. Cowboys have had their NFL
(00:37):
Draft this past weekend. The draft has coming, gone, and
let's talk about it. What do y'all think? What you
Obviously we've had one show since the first round pick,
Tyler Booker from Alabama. I think that mostly people were
okay with that. With that pick, I think I think
there was some thought there was going to be a
wide receiver or maybe a running back. But you know,
(01:00):
after the pick and listening to people talk about it,
I think more people have gotten on board. And then
listening to his press conference on Friday was amazing. If
you haven't, if you haven't seen it, I recommend you
you go back and you watch that. It's impressive. But
I'll say this, and I've said to a few people,
(01:21):
I do remember being very impressed by Tyler Geyton as well,
and his his first press conference and then Obviously that
doesn't mean you're going to have a great season or
going to be a great player or whatever it is.
But you like what you hear. But but Tyler Booker,
that was on another level. That was another level. That's
up that he was saying. You got to go back
and watch it if you haven't seen it. It was
(01:41):
It was really impressive. It's the only time I can
remember a guy speaking like that where even the guys
around him, Shottenheim or Steven Jones, everyone's looking at around
with their eyebrows up like you're hearing this, like this
is this is this is not normal? But it was.
It was awesome. There's a couple of things about what
he said that that I really were impressive. Really, everything
(02:02):
he said was impressive. But it was good stuff. All right,
we can talk about all of the other picks as well.
I'll see if I can remember them all. I had
to print it out and then I left that on
my desk. It's okay, I think, I think I know
for the most part, I can remember where they were.
We could talk about it. I do want to give
one update though, for for the listeners for one of
(02:26):
our storyline family members, Randy and tex Arekana. You know,
he's going through cancer treatment right now. He had surgery yesterday.
He's in recovery now. He sent a video message to
Chris Beam. It looks like he's in recovery. Okay, I'll
just say this, like, you know, he's not. He's probably
(02:49):
not ready to run a forty times right this second.
But he sent the message and he said he's doing
he's doing okay, and he said he's going to try
to call. I don't know if I recommend this or not,
but you know, he's a grown man. If that's what
he wants to do, if he could do it, that
would be amazing. If we if he can, we can
get him on the line, that would be awesome. I
(03:10):
know you guys would love to hear that, but but
I wanted to pass that along that he's he's alert.
He sent a message to Chris. He wanted it. That's
important for him to let us know. So I'm letting
you guys know as well. We're all praying for Randy.
All right, let's keep it going now, let's go. Chuck D.
Bridge City, Texas will be our first caller. Chuck D.
(03:32):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (03:33):
What's up?
Speaker 5 (03:34):
Nick?
Speaker 6 (03:35):
There's so much stuff I want to say, but I'll
go short. I was talking to Bean and I asked
him about getting the phone calls if he gets to
listen to him, and he said that he does and
he actually it's one of the first guys that started
doing that, and he has other teams calling him. I
thought that was pretty cool talking to him. Uh, but
more on this draft. Listened to the audio MafA and
(03:59):
they said that the coach, the running backs coach, said
I know you were hurt this year and we can't
We're excited to see what you can do. So I
didn't even know he was hurt.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Yeah, I don't know a whole lot about him. About MafA,
I watched some of the tape of him and it
looks pretty good. But again I don't know. I don't
know all the other details of why he fell to
the seventh round or whatever. But not not bad, you know,
like like just what I saw. I mean, I saw
(04:29):
forty fifty yard runs against North Carolina State Florida State,
you know, I mean, I saw big, big, powerful back
with some breakaway speed. So that's impressive, you know, But
again I don't know his whole story. I really don't.
Speaker 6 (04:44):
Yeah, he's big, he's like two twenty something.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
Yeah, it's big, powerful back.
Speaker 6 (04:49):
Doubt Clinton's a big school. So I'm like, man, this
could be still maybe it is.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
It could be, you know, I mean, it definitely could be. Now,
he wasn't the first back drafted. Obviously they got Blue
Jaydon Blue from from Texas. But yeah, you know, you're
just just adding that that was one that they were
really excited about getting in the seventh round. So that's
what I love about this show. We got set, we
had what nine picks, and when we're talked about almost
(05:17):
the last pick here in the seventh round. But hey,
it's always somebody that kind of catches your eye and
MafA for you. That's great.
Speaker 6 (05:26):
And last thing, any rumblings the big trade that he
had talked about alluded to is that maybe a receiver.
And have you all heard any buzz around there? And uh,
that's all I got.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Okay, thanks for the call, Chuck. Yes, it sounds like
some of that trade talk was for a receiver. Has
there been a buzz around here? Yes, yeah, there has been.
Do I get to share the names of potential trades? No, not,
not not at all, just because that would be considering
(05:57):
tampering from a team standpoint on a guy that's with
another team. If it happens, it happens, But you know,
I can't really get into all that. Now that there's
been talk of some other players that aren't free agents,
and those names have been mentioned as well, so it
seems very obviously they are going to add a receiver
(06:20):
in some capacity through a trade, which would probably be
next year's picks, or you're just in free agency, so
something will probably happen. Obviously, the Cowboys did not pick
up a wide receiver in the draft, even though they
had a shot in the first round, and I'm sure
if Ted McMillan was there, he was probably going to
(06:41):
be the pick, but he wasn't there and they went
with Booker. That just goes to show what they had
grades on for the other guys, Abuka and then Golden.
I believe they had second round grades, so they weren't
going to take a reach there. Many people think that
Booker was a reach, not for them, not on their board.
They did not reach for him. That that was exactly
where they had him slotted in and that's where they
(07:04):
picked him. So was he overgraded? We'll find out. I mean,
there's a lot of guys that have been overgraded, but
certainly wasn't a reach. They weren't sitting there going we
have to take a guard. We'll just take the best guard.
Because we lost Zach Martin. We're just gonna take the
best guard. That was absolutely not what happened at all.
All right, let's go to Sebastian Savannah, Georgia. What's up.
Speaker 7 (07:24):
Good morning with seven.
Speaker 8 (07:25):
How you doing good?
Speaker 1 (07:26):
How are you?
Speaker 7 (07:27):
I'm doing great. I appreciate the invitation to the second
year second team of well all storyline. I was very
excited to hear that.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Huh, that's right, that's right.
Speaker 7 (07:36):
Let's say you put it like this, right, we got
big Robin Vegas. He's a head coach. Sometimes he gives
your heart love. He seems a little grumpy sometimes, but
you know what's coming from a place of love.
Speaker 8 (07:46):
Right.
Speaker 7 (07:46):
You got my boy Dylan down there, he's the quarterback
of the team. He leaves the franchise right now. And
then you got the lovely Irene in the dream. She's
the captain and the leader of the special team. So
she makes everybody know that they're important. So I appreciate
everybody who's involved in thing, right, But I'm on defense
this year, so I'm like, I'm feeling good, you know,
while I'm at corner, which is happened to be my
favorite pick of the draft because you know, I wanted
(08:07):
that first round corner and we got him in the third,
say Von red Veil, that was my absolute favorite pick
of the draft.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
Obviously, Why do you like.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
Him so much? I mean, have you have you watched them?
Speaker 9 (08:20):
Yes?
Speaker 7 (08:20):
So if you if you remember, I'm from I'm from
an Auburn, Michigan, so Michigan's my hometown team. And I
watched him play Michigan in one of those games where
like it's kind of a pick on me team, and
he was like, you're not picking on me. He almost
picked off JJ McCarthy twice. He's got great, great instincts.
I'm talking about borderline clairvoyants. The way he flows to
the ball. He finds that ball like DV does, like
(08:42):
Trayvon and.
Speaker 10 (08:43):
Is heyday Dead.
Speaker 7 (08:44):
He's a great ball player, and he's got good size
and he's not afraid the tackles. That's the difference between
him and Trayvon. This guy will go out there and tackle.
He's a much better player than the school. What happened
was he decided to be loyal to the school who
was loyal to him. And I respect that, mister h
I one respect that. But you guys have a great day.
And that's it for me. Oh that first round picked off,
(09:06):
Oh that was divisive. I was in the comments cracking up.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
What was that?
Speaker 7 (09:11):
Oh, there, we're going back, They're going back and forth.
They were all they were going back to the lineman
guys and the people who wanted a wide receiver or
cornerbacker or like basically a more effective player on the
team who could score points or take points off the board.
And uh, you know, I was out there instigating and
having fun. But it was it was a good time.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
The draft was.
Speaker 7 (09:28):
They had a very good draft. I give them an
a overall. Uh, And I like Booker. Don't ever be mistaken.
I love to pick a Booker. But you know how
I sought. It's about cornerback or wide receiver in the
first round.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
You guys have a great day, all right, all right,
thank you appreciate that. And and Sebastian is what he
was alluding to, was was the all storyline squad that
we announced on Friday, We tried to give heads up
as much as we can put it on social media
that we were having the show had a pretty good engagement,
but I'm sure there are some that are still listening
(10:01):
that are like, wait, I didn't know we were having
a show, and what my name was called? And and
and yes, so I have I have the list later
on in the show, I'll do a quick rundown on it.
But we had Yeah, we had four captains as as
Sebastian was kind of referring to their irene, Rob, Dylan
and Randy uh where the are the captains? And he
(10:22):
was he was on the second team. We had eleven
on each, just like offense defense type thing. First team,
second team, third team. Excuse me, I had an international squad.
Had some honorable mentions as well. But again as and
and the and the first second third teamers and the captains.
Of course, get this awesome yetty storyline Tumblr, This is
(10:46):
pretty awesome. I don't even know what to put in
it just yet. I I don't know. I haven't figured
it out yet. I still got my bottle of water here.
All right, let's keep rolling here, let's go branded. I'm
not even going to try to pronounce this Brandon and Idaho?
Where in Idaho? Are you at?
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Brandon Quarterlin in Idaho?
Speaker 11 (11:06):
Sir?
Speaker 1 (11:08):
It just seems so when I've reading that down here,
just seems so much difficult to pronounce them that. All right?
Can I just say Idaho?
Speaker 2 (11:17):
That's perfectly fine?
Speaker 1 (11:18):
First time caller? So that means Chris, That means he's
on the phone. Brandon. What's going on?
Speaker 12 (11:27):
Man?
Speaker 1 (11:27):
How you doing?
Speaker 2 (11:29):
I'm good, good, Nick? How you doing this morning?
Speaker 1 (11:31):
I'm good, good, good good talk to me.
Speaker 12 (11:34):
So.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
I think a lot of people have been given the
Cowboys heat for their draft picks, but I think they
hit home runs in their first four picks. Big fan
of Jayden Blue. Yeah, he fell off a little bit
last year with Texas. Weisner kind of took over there,
but he is durable, he's fast. Love that pick Booker.
I think he can be a maller in that line.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Got Yeah. I mean that's that's that's why you take
him at that at that spot in the round, is
that he's going to have to move people off the ball.
Speaker 6 (12:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
I watched that podcast whatever Micah was doing, and you say,
I got me hyped. My question is with the running backs,
they took, do just mean the end of Deuce Vaughn
in that backfield, I.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Don't see a spot for him. I mean, honestly, he's
going to have to do He's gonna have to be
Kansas State Douce Fun. But then again, he's got some
Kansas State ties. He's got his coach back, his offensive
coordinator is coaching the offensive line. So maybe this is it.
Maybe this is the turn the corner year for him.
And if so, then that creates a fun problem. But
(12:47):
I mean, as it stands right now, if he keeps
doing what he's gonna what he's been doing, and he
because because he's only doing things in the preseason, that's
really the only time we've seen this. And they're going
to give the ball the blue and MafA. I mean,
they're going to get opportunities in the preseason. So I
don't know, I don't know where where it fits for
(13:08):
for Deuce Fun Malik. They've is still on the team
as well, but we'll see.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Oh, I appreciate the time, Nick, all right, have a
good one.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
Thank you. Appreciate that Brandon from Idaho. First time caller
Chris didn't give him these flowers. There we go, all right,
all right, thanks Brandon, appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
I mean, just like with any with all of these picks,
because they started the draft with seventy seven players on
the roster, you can have ninety at the end of
this week whenever the free agents come in. And so
they had seventy seven, they had ten draft picks, what
they ended up with nine. But so it only you
(13:52):
know they were only going to get three rookie free agents.
Well they've signed nine free agents, so you do the math.
They've added eighteen players for the team spots. You can imagine.
I can promise you between now and Thursday, there's gonna
be five players on this team released. And you know,
I have a decent idea of who they are, and
I mean they're they're probably you know, they're guys that
(14:14):
have been around for a little bit and just haven't
haven't done anything, haven't haven't done what they're supposed to do.
Look at a running back position, you know, I mean,
they they've added in free agency Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders,
and then in the draft they average Jayden Blue and
Phil MafA. So would you throw that in with what
(14:35):
is here with Deuce Van Malik Davis. I mean probably
seems a little crowded. I would imagine they make it
the decision here. I mean, Davis has been here for
three years now. I mean like it's you know, it's
just we just haven't seen a lot of improvement there
to the point where they're they're obviously adding four backs
in free agency. So I mean, I'm sorry in the
(14:58):
off season two free agency to in the draft. All right,
Michael and Bowling Green, Kentucky's next, Michael, what's up?
Speaker 13 (15:05):
Well, first, I want to say, Randy, we're all caring
about you. We're all thinking and praying about you, and
be glad when you're back to one hundred percent, which
we know will be soon.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
Sure, And uh, I'm over the moon on the draft.
Speaker 13 (15:19):
Man, I mean I just yeah, I mean, I mean,
you got the guy Booker, the stuff he said. I
mean what he's going to be a day one star.
He's gonna he's gonna pull into Zach spot day one.
I believe the running back Blue from what I understand,
he is super fast. You got from another show I
(15:42):
was watching. They were saying that that cornerback they got
in the third round is before his injury. He was
going to be a top half of the first round pick.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (15:52):
So I mean, I mean, then the defense, I mean
I love it. I mean I got some high expectations.
I'm I mean I want I watched or listen to
the whole draft and then checked everything and and and
then also I wanted to say, the whole storyline team thing. Yeah,
(16:13):
getting the yetty is kind of like the.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
Cherry on top.
Speaker 10 (16:17):
Yeah, it's great.
Speaker 13 (16:19):
Uh, I'll be able to every Sunday wear my storyline
shirt and and my my storyline have my my yetti.
But I mean just you, you know, calling my name out,
say I was I was on the first team and
everything I mean, and talking to you and having all
the uh the Cowboys fans on here with and listen.
(16:42):
I mean that that's the best part to me.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
Well, yeah, I appreciate that, Michael. Thanks for saying that
makes us feel great about what we're doing and what
we've created. And you guys have just taken the ball
and just ran with it. Really we just kind of
lobbed it up there, and you guys have taken it
and to another level. So it's been so much fun
to be a part of it. And and and and
you know, to watch you guys kind of uh you know,
(17:06):
like have friends all over the country, all over the world.
It's pretty awesome.
Speaker 13 (17:11):
So so yeah, just love to fat you and Chris
y'all are doing this. And I mean it's just nice
to be able to you know, get your your thoughts
and stuff in. It's just you know, during the whole season. Okay,
you gotta wait a Wednesday.
Speaker 10 (17:26):
Yeah, here we go, Here we go.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
But that's all I had.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
I appreciate, appreciate that you gotta here we go from Chris.
That's awesome. As as he was talking about in the
first you know, Savone Ravel I think that's how you
say his name. But but he's the East Carolina corner
back got hurt. And every injury is different, every rehab
(17:52):
is different, every everybody that comes back. But you know,
typically there's a there's a window of a timeline that's
about the same and then certain situations depending on how
much you know what the surgery was done, when the
surgery was done and all that. You know, he got
hurt in week three of the of the college season
(18:12):
last year, and he's doing well and then and and
he says he'll be ready for the start of training camp.
I think the Cowboys are saying he'll probably start off
on pop pup, but you can come off with that
at any time. But their goals that haven't ready for
week one, I mean, that's that's the goal. If you
go back to week three of the twenty twenty three season,
(18:38):
that's when remember if that's when Trevon Diggs got hurt
against Arizona before the Arizona game in practice, just like
Ravel got hurt in practice, which is he hate to
see that. I hate to see it anytime, but certainly
in a practice. But so Diggs gets hurt in practice
misses the rest of the year. You know, he was
ready for the first game, and he played the first
game against Cleveland, got an interception, so you know that's
(19:01):
that's the plan is hoping to get him back. Now,
this would be getting him for Week one, which would
be his NFL debut. He's ever played in the NFL before,
so a little different than a guy like Digs that
had played and had you know, played in some preseason games,
played in a lot of games, and so we can
get back into the flow of it. So they're not
(19:21):
going to rush him back, but talent wise, this was
a this was a really good player that was going
to probably be a first round pick. And so that's
that's the Cowboys way. That's that's the usually we've seen
it in the second round. Jerry did it this year
in the third round. It's the Cowboys special though, And
and they're they're trying to get value as much value
(19:41):
as you possibly can, and they they feel like they
have it with uh with Revel. All right, let's go
to Casey Joe. He's in Kansas City, of course. What's up?
Speaker 14 (19:52):
Good morning, miss Treatman. How are you doing today, sir?
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Good?
Speaker 14 (19:55):
How are you doing good? Excited about the draft? I was,
and bringing on mister Blue, those legs and that speed.
I just can't wait to see him on the field.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
Right.
Speaker 14 (20:05):
And then Donovan Raku, is that how you say his
name is?
Speaker 1 (20:10):
As a rock?
Speaker 8 (20:12):
Right?
Speaker 14 (20:12):
That that man right there. I wasn't really excited at
first until I heard the story where he was at
his place and he was among Eagle fans and he
told them all to get that stuff off because now
he's a cowboy. I really thought that was funny, and
I think now his family might become cowboy fans.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
What do you think well, I mean I would they
will see how how much they they love him. I
mean I would think that they would become Cowboys fans.
But because he you know, he's going to get some
money now, He's probably going to see how much they
he wants to, uh, he wants to be a part
of the inner circle. No, I you know, that's always
a tough one. I'm sure. I mean I remember Sean
(20:49):
Lee telling a story about Steeler fans and how you
know he went over to the Cowboys And it's not easy.
I mean, there's no doubt about it if you're you're
a fan of a team but for so long. But
you know what I like about it as a Roku
is the production. I mean, he had thirty sacks in
four seasons at Boston College. Thirty sacks, I mean sixteen
and a half this past year. He lives in the
(21:11):
backfield forty five tackles for losses. That's what I like
is that he knows how to ben to get around
that edge and make plays. So yeah, that I wasn't
extremely excited about that because I just didn't know. I
didn't know much about him. But when you just look
at the production, it's certainly there.
Speaker 14 (21:30):
Right, Well, I didn't have much to say. I just
wanted to tell you good morning, and I'm glad we
got those players. Have a great day, miss Treatman, all.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Right, thank you, you have a great day as well.
Case Joe, he's in Kansas City. So now I'm asking
I'm asking Joe to hand the phone over because he's
probably sitting right next to Brian. Hand the phone over
to Brian, who's also in Kansas City. Brian, what's up?
Speaker 12 (21:55):
Good morning, mister Eatman.
Speaker 5 (21:57):
How are you man?
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Good?
Speaker 1 (21:58):
How are you doing? I don't know why that is,
but it seems like y'all both call like this.
Speaker 5 (22:02):
That's weird.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
It is kind of weird. It is weird unless y'all
are sitting right next to each other. But no, there's
no way, there's no way.
Speaker 5 (22:08):
No, no.
Speaker 12 (22:08):
I never met him, and being started being started laughing
as soon as he realized it was me. He's like, Okay,
this is gonna be funny.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
It is. So anyways, another first team All storyline caller.
I think you called before I announced the team on Friday.
I didn't really want to get ahead of myself, but
congratations on that. Thank you, thank you for all the
support that you've shown. That's two years in a row
for you, Brian, So thank you so much. You're one
(22:36):
of those people that really helped us take this off
the ground, and so I appreciate that.
Speaker 9 (22:40):
Hey man, I've loved it every minute of it, absolutely
every I can't thank you guys enough for making a
show that we can be a part of. It is
just something you're dad.
Speaker 12 (22:53):
If I could, if I'm not Catholic, but if I
was Catholic, I would put him in for a sainthood.
Speaker 6 (23:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
Well I don't know about that, but uh no, he's
he's certainly proud of that, and and uh, you know,
it was a great idea. He watches it religiously. Uh
he's he's you know, he really is excited about it.
And and you know, he he loves the show. He
just thinks it's it's been better than we even both
imagined it could be. And I know Derek has said
(23:22):
that too. Derek was a little lukewarm to it at
first because it's new, it's different, something we haven't done,
you know. But he thought that I could, I could help,
you know, carry this thing. And and I never thought
that that that beam would would be able to take
it to another level like he has and with all
this stuff on his plate. So really we're you know,
we're having a nice off here. But I mean, honestly,
(23:44):
it's been it's been fun, it's been awesome, and let's
keep it going.
Speaker 10 (23:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (23:48):
I was really impressed. Beam did a great job at
making it work during training camp.
Speaker 15 (23:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (23:53):
I didn't think there was any.
Speaker 10 (23:54):
Chance of that.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
Yes, I mean that's why you know, he's like, he
goes to was it there's a convention it every year,
you know, and it called n ab out in Vegas,
and he goes every year. And he went out there
two years ago and says, I'm going out there to
find out a way to get phone calls on the show.
That's what I'm going to do. And he did and
(24:16):
we had we had a call, We had calls last year.
It was it was awesome. I would imagine we'll have
something like that this year, if not even better. So
it's all it's just the show just keeps getting better
and better.
Speaker 11 (24:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (24:27):
Absolutely, man, you guys are done phenomenal.
Speaker 5 (24:30):
That's great.
Speaker 12 (24:31):
Hey, going back to the draft, you know, I already
talked to you on Friday, so you know I'm over
the moon with anything in the trenches. Yea, then give
me Booker. And you know, I wonder how many times
have we heard Nate from Frisco say the offensive line
changed when Eric Williams got there, you know, And listening
(24:52):
to Booker say he wants to see the light go
out of somebody's eyes sounds to me. I never heard
Eric Williams be interviewed.
Speaker 5 (24:58):
You know, this is really notties.
Speaker 12 (25:00):
We didn't have the internet like we do now. I
don't know what he sounded like to you guys, because
you know, nowadays we can watch all this stuff. In
those days, we couldn't you know what he you know,
you know, you weren't working there in the ninety and
in the ninety three season. But but you know, maybe
you've met him since then.
Speaker 5 (25:17):
I have no idea, but.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
I've got I got an Eric Williams story of the
year I was here in ninety nine. But I'll let
you finish and then then I'll tell that.
Speaker 12 (25:24):
Yeah, oh that's great, Yeah, yeah, that's great. You know,
but that's when I listened to him. I'm like him,
maybe this is it because we've got some talent on
the offensive line there, you know, bbe for every every
bit of guff you want to give the Cowboys that
Geyton has not been a Day one starter, Let's remember
(25:45):
that Phoebe was, and those two guys are forever tied
together because of how we got that draft pick. Right,
So remember, you know, the Cowboys have done overall very
well with offensive lineman and this guy. When I watch
the haters, I watched a guy yesterday for like thirty
seconds say oh, you don't take a guard in the
(26:06):
first round, and then right after that he says, but
I think he'll be a Pro Bowl player. Like really, Like,
how do you say those two things in the same.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
Right, right?
Speaker 5 (26:15):
Right?
Speaker 1 (26:15):
If you think if you think you got a Pro
Bowl player, then it was a great first round pick.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
No doubt.
Speaker 12 (26:20):
Absolutely. Now my concerns are two things. I didn't want
hurt guys again, and I had a little PTSD when
they were saying, but doctor Cooper did a surgery, so
we know everything about it because that's what we heard
when we picked Jalen Smith, right, and you know, but
they're two different people. You know, we'll see what happens
with him. The other concern I had with him is
(26:41):
he only has really one year of starting experience, So
you know, we'll say, obviously they love his traits, and
doctor Cooper obviously did give him a glowing report if
they picked him. Sure, so you know we're hopeful there.
I also not I'm not a big fan of little
running packs, so but it is what it is. What
I will say about him is he's got real speed.
(27:05):
I mean, we haven't, you know, other than Cabonte Turpin.
I don't think there's anybody that's even close to him
in speed, So you know, I'm glad for that. And
then the last one I wanted to talk about and
just and maybe you can help me with the pronunciation.
How do you pronounce the seventh round? Pick the big guy's.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
Name, the King King Mesoto, the other one.
Speaker 12 (27:27):
Oh, j Toya Toya?
Speaker 1 (27:30):
I think ktoya.
Speaker 12 (27:31):
Yeah, okay, I've heard a couple of different pronunciations.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
That's what I think it is. But okay, I'm not
I'm not one hundred percent sure. I guess I thought
it was Toya, but again, I don't know. I don't
know one hundred percent yet. We'll see. Uh yeah, that's
one of those questions that might be a question we
ask a lot of these guys. Uh, how do you
pronounce your name?
Speaker 10 (27:51):
We say it right, so don't don't.
Speaker 12 (27:53):
Hey, did you see did you see the call with
him and Zack Waltuck?
Speaker 1 (27:58):
Yes?
Speaker 12 (27:58):
Did do you hear about it? Don't ask him that?
Speaker 1 (28:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 12 (28:02):
So yeah, but that's that's also even though he's a
seventh round pick and I know we have, we ended
up getting the guy back from last year too, right,
Justin Rodgers. Didn't he come back from Cincinnati at some point? Yes,
so I got some hope that you know, we got
some competition for Ozzie.
Speaker 10 (28:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (28:20):
Yeah, let's see what we got. Anyway, I can't wait
to hear your Eric Williams story, brother, And good to
talk to you this morning.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
Thanks Brian. Is you brought up Justin Rodgers and I
don't know what they're gonna do. Just remember that they
are going to release five players from the team and
I don't know where he fits on that, but they
did draft two defensive tackles in the seventh round. So
and he was the seventh round from last year that
they cut, brought to another team, came back different scheme.
By the way, this is not you know a guy
(28:48):
from matt everflus his scheme. So I wouldn't. I wouldn't
think Justin Rodgers is gonna you know, would I wouldn't
go get a Justin Rodgers jersey. But but I don't know,
I don't know, you know, what they're gonna do at
that position, but they do have have a few decisions
to make there. All right, let's go to the Eric
Williams story. What I was going to say, because he's
(29:10):
talking about just you know, he was comparing to Tyler
Brooker just have main Streek nasty player Eric Williams. When
I got here ninety nine, I think he had held
out for a little bit and it wasn't at at
training camp for a while, and I remember I had
a couple of Eric Williams story. But I remember late
(29:32):
late in the evening, late afternoon, it was about time
to go home, and we were in between I think
we'd come home for a preseason game. We're going back
to Wichita Falls for training camp, and Jerry Jerry stopped
me in the hallway and said, hey, I got a
story for you. Eric Williams is in the car right
now driving to wich Darl Falls. Will be a practice tomorrow.
And I was able to like, wow, you know, and
(29:53):
I was thanks, Jerry. You know, I went and wrote
the story and all that and got that out there
because he had been he had been a couple of years,
I mean a couple of weeks where he was holding out,
I guess. But another thing about about him is that
ninety nine season, he would wear his his Pro Bowl
shorts that he got from the ninety four ninety five
(30:14):
Pro Bowl or whatever, and he would wear them around
as motivation for where he wanted to be. Speaking of motivation,
he would always also take the hat of the other
team and put it in his locker all week long.
Cardinals hat, Giants hat, Eagles hat in his locker all
week long. When he would go and change that, he
would sit there and see that that other team, and
sometimes he would wear it. You know, I see him
(30:35):
wearing Eagles hat going around. But that was kind of
his way to kind of get motivated. So all right,
let's go to Matt in Oklahoma.
Speaker 10 (30:44):
Matt, how are you doing good?
Speaker 1 (30:46):
How you doing Matt?
Speaker 10 (30:47):
Thanks for I don't know a problem. Just I'm really
excited about this year's draft. Yeah, I mean everybody's been
talking about, you know, the first four rounds. I want
to talk about a couple of late round guys. The
tackle you got in the sixth round and that Toya
Yeah all right, the tackle on the sixth round out
of Oregon. Dude, the fighter Cornel Cornelia. Yeah, yeah, he's
(31:12):
a fighter. I think if he gets his hand right,
because if like, he'll punch and sometimes he'll miss with
his punch, but he keeps fighting. He finds a way
to He only gave up three sacks in his entire
college career. I think that if Steel gets hurt, he
better watch out because I think that kid could take
his job. And that Toya kid out of U. C
(31:38):
l A.
Speaker 16 (31:40):
Yeah, Mazzi needed some competition. Yeah, I think that that
kid could light a fire underneath Mozzi's you know what,
yeah uh, and probably needs it so we can get
the best out of him, get that first round talent
that they saw.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Yeah, hundred percent that they've got to They've got to
figure out a way to get Mazzi Smith to that
next level whether and that that should be something that
would be a big priority for Matt Everflus and his
and his staff and his d line staff to get
get these guys playing at a high level. But you're right,
they're real excited about those two seventh rounders. Now they're
they're seventh rounders for a reason, but they they are
(32:21):
happy about the scheme. And that's the thing about defense.
Sometimes these guys have visions for players to be in
their scheme and and it may not be what other
other teams think of him, but they certainly like them.
Speaker 10 (32:33):
I thought I heard somewhere that they had a fourth
round greade on that Toya.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
I think that sounds right. I mean, I know, I
know they stuck to their board, so in the seventh round,
I mean they they had guys that they really liked there.
So yeah, they stuck to the board for sure.
Speaker 10 (32:47):
The entire draft, the entire draft is now that that
was completely different because I watch the draft every year
and it's just like, really, you reach for that guy,
but not this year. This year is like okay, yeah
I agree with that. Yeah, oh wow, okay, you got
him there.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
Yeah. It was the It was the good and bad
part about having so many needs. When you do have
so many needs, that you can just stick to the
board and he's gonna fit somewhere. This guy will fit somewhere,
And that's that's pretty much what happened. So uh. And
they also had a plan. They still have a plan
for a wide receiver, Like they knew that going in
(33:24):
of what they were going to do, and they didn't
do anything beforehand because you're like, what if we get
mc millan, that changes some things on who we might
trade for, who we might bring in. But now that
that didn't happen, and you're starting to get third, fourth,
fifth round, you're like, you know, all we're doing at
this point is bringing in another Mingo, bringing in another
Jalen Tolbert. Let's let's let's wait. And so you know,
(33:47):
it was first or second round. If it didn't happen,
then they're probably gonna go to the plan B, which
is somebody in free agency or trade.
Speaker 10 (33:55):
Yeah, and I keep hearing the MARII coming back, you
know potential, and I would I wouldn't be opposed to that.
I mean the best part of his career is when
he played with DAGs. Yeah, so I wouldn't be opposed
to it.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
But well, it'd be a different you know, if that happens.
Obviously it's a different situation than when he was here before.
Different money, different role, different everything, but probably a different number.
I mean, everything would be different. But but I think
what you want is you want a guy that that
can hurt teams if they're gonna if they're gonna take
away cd uh. You got a guy on the other
(34:30):
side that can do some damage, you know. And he
did have a two hundred yard game last year. He's
not as the most consistent and if you play fantasy football,
you probably know you had him and you didn't start
them and whatever it is, I get it.
Speaker 10 (34:43):
But you know, a lot of people's complaints about him
is he does disappear, and it seems like he disappears
more on the road than he does at home, which
I mean is a valid point. I have seen that,
but I mean, you know, when he's on, he is on.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
Yeah, well, you don't want your number one to disappe
here if you know your number two and three that
that's kind of what happens you take take them out
of the game.
Speaker 10 (35:05):
So yeah, all right, man, appreciate the appreciate you with tanks.

(37:34):
Lake City, Utah. Jeremy, what's up, Harry Nick?
Speaker 5 (37:38):
What's going on?
Speaker 3 (37:39):
Man?
Speaker 1 (37:39):
How are you doing?
Speaker 5 (37:41):
I'm doing great. I appreciate the honorable mention. Didn't get
a tumbler this year, but that's okay. I'm really honored
to be honorably mentioned. Man, Thanks for that.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
Jeremy. You were right there. You were right there. And
I'll tell you this, if anybody doesn't, I'll give you
about a month or two. If you don't send in
your stuff, we have extras. I had extra T shirts
from last year. I have an extra T shirt, So
you know, if it doesn't, if we don't, if we don't,
if we have some extras, you were right there, So
holler at us and we'll see what we can make
(38:13):
something work.
Speaker 5 (38:15):
Right on, right on. Well, I'm uh really stoked about
the draft. You know, we've been talking about it a
lot on the storyliners for them too, you know, on
X or whatever. And we finally got to look at
what this team's gonna look like. We've been speculating, right
(38:35):
because it's a new coaching staff. You know, what's offense
gonna look like, what's defense gonna look like? And I've
been saying all along, until we see what they draft,
you know, we're kind of just guessing, right. But now
now that we've got the draft in, this coaching staff
(38:55):
ain't messing around in the trenches anymore.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
Man.
Speaker 5 (38:58):
Uh. It seems like they're really getting serious about commanding
and controlling the line of scrimmage. And I think that's
been a big problem obviously. We've all know that on
both sides of the ball. Even the three years that
we went twelve and four that was kind of our
Achilles Hill. We were more of a finesse team, I
(39:20):
would say, than a than a you know, hitch you
in the mouth, right, you know, type blue collar team
if you will. So, yeah, I'm just kind of stoked.
I think the best pick of the draft was Revel.
I think that guy from what I've been hearing, you know,
he would have been top ten pick if not for
(39:43):
the knee and I'm excited to see, you know, what
he'll do. I'm kinda scared about the beginning of the
year because we have so many people like him, Diggs
and a lot of our secondary banged up and then
over shown as well. You know, it seems like this
(40:07):
team might not really hit its stride till December, maybe,
you know. And I'm just wondering your thoughts on that
and if we can keep it together and tell some
of these you know, really superstars come back, because these
are some of our better playmakers on the team that
are hurt right now. And so that's what kind of
(40:27):
worries me. And also your thoughts on the receiver looks
like they're kind of like kicking around Cooper or Keyan Allen,
I would say, I mean, I think all of us
would say Cooper if he you know, if he hasn't
lost the step just because of the continuity and everything.
(40:49):
But yeah, just I wonder what your thoughts are there, bro.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
All right, thank you appreciate that. You know, I think
that this team has to get off to a good start,
you know, during the season, So I don't you know
that we we've we've seen a lot of injuries around
this team, and and nobody seems to give them a
pass for that, uh for you know, it never happens.
(41:14):
You don't get excused. You know, there's no excuse for
for the injury situation. So when you think about what
where they are going to be health wise, Sure, there
there's some guys coming back from injury, but I think
they should be able to go win games, you know,
with with what they've got. I mean, if they should
have Mike ready to roll dak CD, that's that's kind
(41:36):
of the core. That's where it starts. And then and
then from there, uh, you know, they'll have some some
other guys now now obviously you know, overshown, digs, revel,
we'll see, we'll we'll see about them. But but I
think this team to be a good football team this year.
They're going to have to get off to a good start,
you know. And this is new, new everything, new coach, uh,
(41:59):
new coaching staff. A lot of times you you see
some success early and they need that, they need that.
This they're all, you know, they got a lot of positivity.
Everybody's excited about what we're seeing out of Shoddy and
everything and and the coaches. But they haven't lost the game.
You know, as soon as you start losing some games,
(42:19):
especially a close game, and people start questioning whether whether
or not you know what you're doing, and then that
that'll change some things. So but right now things are great.
I think they need they have to have some success
early on to really carry this thing through. All right, Uh,
lines are open, I believe here on a story line
eight eight eight eight five five two two nine seven.
(42:42):
Chris is their caller waiting we open lines. Yeah, I'm sorry.
It's Lewis and Langston. Lewis and Langston. Okay, I see him.
Hey Lewis, how you doing?
Speaker 7 (42:53):
Not much?
Speaker 4 (42:54):
Man?
Speaker 21 (42:54):
Like I told Chris in the background, I appreciate you
all for thinking about me. I didn't get to get home.
Speaker 10 (42:58):
Man.
Speaker 21 (42:59):
It's you know how hard it is to get on.
Well you don't because you the hoax, but for the
thing hard.
Speaker 1 (43:04):
To get I hear it, and I see that the
phones are ringing all the time, and and I know
this when when when we'll have two people on the line,
we have two lines, and when I when I when
somebody hangs up, yeah, and then I see another one
pop up. I know how quickly, uh that that they've
been calling so no, I I know, and I appreciate it.
Speaker 21 (43:25):
No, well, I appreciate y'all first off for giving us
a voice, but and I appreciate y'all for vote me
in and and putting me on the first team, and
thank you. Yeah, first appreciate that, and then secondly, I
was trying to call it give a little two cents
about the draft. I watched it. I loved it.
Speaker 10 (43:41):
I enjoyed it.
Speaker 21 (43:42):
Well, the shador thing kind of that's a whole different story.
But I will say I was a big proponent of
trying to get a big receiver.
Speaker 7 (43:51):
I wanted to mc.
Speaker 21 (43:51):
Billy and I'm not going yea act like I did mcbilly,
but as you know, as we saw, he was gone.
And I love the way the Dallas I was pivoted
to Jared Jones and them pivoted. They got the big guard, which, hey,
if you don't got if you don't have the receiver,
at least let let the quarterback be standing enough to
throw the ball to somebody. So I appreciate them doing that.
(44:14):
And then I like the being dn cain't never have
enough rusher, So I enjoyed that. I'm not one hundred
percent sure about the corner I say. I mean, I
see a lot of people saying he would have been
at first round draft pick if he wasn't hurt, and
I mean, hey, I appreciate that. But at the same time,
we only got one corner right now at the point, like,
(44:35):
we need corners that can actually get on the field
right now, so I kind of like, I'm worried about that.
But if he can't get on the field, I'm happy
about that, and maybe you can produce like they say
he can. I did want to running back. I know
we got blue and the field offer. I'm not mad
about that. They're a little later around us than I wanted,
(44:58):
but if they can give us good numbers, I'm okay
with that. Plus the guy that we bought in from
free agency. And then my biggest the one draft pick I.
Speaker 4 (45:08):
Loved was the big boy.
Speaker 21 (45:09):
The big tonguin was Joe Toya. I think, yeah, the
three hundred and forty five. I just need him to
not move just standing there. Don't let nobody move you
out the way, so the run the linebackers can run
around and do whatever. Like I just that right there,
to me was the best draft kick to me, when
you get somebody big like that hopefully and he could
(45:30):
can out. But and I'm I'm not down on my yet.
But if you put those two big boys, that's that's
nine hundred, nine hundred pounds standing there. I just need
them to stand there and not move and let them
don't let nobody run for two hundred yards on you
outside of that, man, I won't hold you too long,
and I'll hang up and listen.
Speaker 1 (45:51):
All right, appreciate it, Lewis, thank you for the call.
And you know, the defensive tackle is it was one
of those those needs were uh, I think when Steven
and when they were making the pick. One of the
things that was said, uh, coming out of the war
room was that it scratches a big itch. Okay, and
(46:15):
that's an old school term there, but but it was
a need. It was a need there defensive tackle. That
and they and they and they asked, they waited later
on to do that. They still followed their board, but
defensive tackle was was a need that they they've been
looking at the entire time. And then they went back
and got it in the seventh round with a King
Besote from Maryland. So they they've got some some some
(46:39):
guys that I think are gonna compete for sure a
defensive tackle. But like you said, Mazzi, this is you know,
this is good. They didn't draft another first rounder. But
but but still there'll be competition for him, as there
should be. All right, let's go to Carolina. He's driving
in Peacoast, Texas right now. Carolina. What's up.
Speaker 11 (47:02):
Going on?
Speaker 1 (47:04):
There? We go? How you doing?
Speaker 11 (47:06):
I'm going good? I said, I made the team. Man,
you made the first team, but I didn't make the good.
Speaker 1 (47:12):
That's okay, that's okay. You were a late bloomer, man,
you started, you started late. But uh, I mean you were.
You were driving that thing pretty close. You'll be there.
You'll be there next year, for sure. I mean just
too much production there, too much production holds you back.
Speaker 11 (47:31):
For sure for sure. How you doing, man? Everything all right?
Speaker 1 (47:34):
Yeah, everything's good. What's your thoughts on the draft?
Speaker 3 (47:38):
Man?
Speaker 10 (47:38):
A couple thoughts?
Speaker 11 (47:39):
Man, I don't know if you remember, we had a
conversation a couple of weeks ago. I said, Man, what
about this scenario with us getting the office and I
mean in the first round and then probably getting as
a receiver and free agency. Remember I said that. I said,
that's a big possibility because I don't think that the
guy that we want is going to be there, so
(48:00):
why not just go get shut up some veteran twnent
to hold down the back end and get what you need.
And I think they did a really good job of that.
I mean with the with the second pick, I wasn't
expected that, but I think that you can never have
too many pass rushes, especially how that guy moves. Man,
he seems to already have the skills. Get in on
(48:22):
day one and go do what he needs to do.
And Booker, I think that was a perfect pick. Like
he's not gonna be Zach Martin. We don't know who knows.
He maybe better who. I mean, that's a high, that's
high still in the weeks, but I think it was
a pretty good overroll pick. And I do have one
thing that I don't see a lot of buzz about.
Speaker 10 (48:42):
Now.
Speaker 11 (48:42):
Maybe it's not because i'm vice for because I'm from
South Carolina, but I don't think people are giving this
guy Ma sat MafA Phil Maufa enough credit to what
he's put down on the football field. I know it's
the ACC, but believe it's not. The ACC is getting
stronger and stronger every year.
Speaker 1 (49:00):
Well, I mean he was a seventh round pick. I mean,
like like, it's not about it's not about where, whether
he was a good player from a good conference, good
team and all that. It's just that that every team
in the league had chances six or seven eight times
to take them and they didn't. So that's any seventh rounder.
But I said it earlier. I mean I watched some highlights.
(49:22):
I've impressed. He looked better than what I would have
thought a seventh round running back looks like. But I
don't know the details of why he didn't why he fell.
Speaker 11 (49:31):
I know why why because last year he played with
the injury and he played the whole season. If you
asked me, we could have beat Texas in the playoffs
if he was one hundred percent healthy. But I mean,
so Dallas injury, he had a souldier injury.
Speaker 5 (49:47):
Yeah, he had a soulder injury.
Speaker 11 (49:48):
I mean he played through it the whole year. That
shows some toughness.
Speaker 1 (49:53):
Right there, man, definitely, And it's a sacrifice. It's a
sacrifice to do that that not everybody's doing, especially and
now with college kids making money and and they also
have a lot of people in there in their ear
like as far as agents wise, because college kids now
obviously have agents and to say, hey, don't ruin your
your your draft stock by playing hurt, putting bad tape
(50:17):
out there. And so for him if that is the case,
and for him to do that, it's a big sacrifice
any any and he got hurt by it, bye, by
falling to the seventh round. But now it's up to
him to to you know, turn that thing around and
show he's gonna get the ball. He's gonna get some
some touches and preseason and we'll see.
Speaker 11 (50:36):
It scares me though, man, because now I'm like, dang, dude,
you got it. You gotta show up to so you're
gonna be out the door man, this this is gonna
be your last year.
Speaker 1 (50:45):
Of course, I hope he.
Speaker 11 (50:46):
I hope he does. You know, put on put put
in some good work to get him in the front running.
But I mean you just never know. And but with
that being said, what do you think about the corner?
I've hurt nothing but good, but he's hurt with there.
What do you think about that?
Speaker 1 (51:05):
Thanks? Thanks for the call, Carolina. You you you drive
safe and I always appreciate it. I'll answer that question.
One thing that I think that fans just kind of
overlook sometimes because it's easy to do, very easy to do,
is that these teams are drafting for their franchise. They're
(51:26):
not drafting for twenty twenty five. They're drafting for the franchise.
They know what's there when they draft as Araku, they
know that Dante Fowler and Sam Williams are on one
year deals and Micah, we'll see what happens. I mean,
I think that everyone thinks he's coming back. I'm sure
he probably will, but they know that this is a
(51:47):
good pick for maybe this year, but also next year
as well. Same with with Revel Okay, is he ready
to play Week one? Maybe? Is he gonna be as
good as we think he is this year? Probably not?
But what's up with Diggs? Duran Bland hasn't re signed yet.
You know, you you you got a flyer that they
you know for Elam jyr Elam, that that they've had
(52:09):
a former first round pick, but you know, they've got
to see what works there. So third round if he
doesn't play much this year or some but they think
they've got a first round type corner for next year.
So that's kind of the plan here. This year might
be a gravy year for him. Anything that he does
would be awesome. But but knowing that you have a
(52:30):
chance to solidify your your your cornerback position and with
a first round type pick with with rebel for next year.
So that's that's where that is, and that's when you
always have to decide what round do you want to
sacrifice that for. I think that was the logic with
Jalen Smith. A lot of these second rounders we've seen
is maybe not ready to go so much this year,
(52:52):
but the next year he certainly will be. So that's
kind of the thought there. All right, Chris, we have
another caller on the line. Is so just passing through?
Speaker 10 (53:03):
No?
Speaker 1 (53:04):
Sorry? Lester le Okay, what's that? Man? Leicester?
Speaker 8 (53:09):
Hey, good morning man. I got a few things I
want to say. First of all, I want to say
my prayers go out and my blessings go out to Randy.
Get well soon, brother. I also want to thank you
guys for putting me on the first team offensive and
(53:29):
defensive line.
Speaker 7 (53:30):
It looks like.
Speaker 8 (53:30):
They're building it up. I'm loving it. I love that guy.
Speaker 21 (53:35):
Toya.
Speaker 8 (53:36):
In the seventh round one question of the U d
f a's did they pick up any defensive tackles in
that that time, because I know they picked up some
some people on the team, but I couldn't. I wasn't
sure if they picked up any dts.
Speaker 1 (53:59):
I'll be honest, I haven't necessarily seen that whole list,
uh for the defensive tackles. I know we we we
wrote that. I can't. I haven't studied it. I've seen
some of the names. Nobody kind of popped out for me.
We do have it up on our website. I can
maybe pull it up. I don't remember if we had
if there was a defensive tackle on there or not.
Speaker 8 (54:21):
Well, I think I think they did her. Hey, they
are building up my offensive defensive line peaple.
Speaker 10 (54:28):
Yes.
Speaker 8 (54:28):
Draft overall, I think they did a job, A minus
a job Okay. And as far as that corner, you know,
I played corner.
Speaker 3 (54:39):
In high school.
Speaker 1 (54:40):
The guy's good man.
Speaker 8 (54:41):
I mean, I know he was hurt last year or
as part of the year or whatever. I've watched a
little bit of his uh technique because I look for technique.
I don't just look for the flashy plays and all that.
He is sound technique, man, He's good A right, that
a p Well, I don't see.
Speaker 1 (54:59):
It, and less I don't see any defensive lineman or
offensive linemen that we're drafted. I mean that we're signed
in free agency after the draft. The receivers, corners, tight end, safety, linebacker,
another receiver, safety, corner, and tight end. So did not
go with a with alignment or a quarterback as far
(55:19):
as that goes. So, but they'll probably bring in some
workout guys for this mini camp. You're allowed to bring
in some of those guys. They may even have a
quarterback coming in just for a workout, just just to
throw the ball to some of these guys. So that
usually happens.
Speaker 8 (55:38):
All right, right, okay, all right, right, that's all I got.
Speaker 1 (55:41):
Appreciate it, and.
Speaker 8 (55:42):
We are building up our offensive and defensive line.
Speaker 1 (55:45):
Go Cowboys, all right, thank you, Lester. All right, let's
go to break here real quick on the Cowboys storyline.

I'm gonna do an update real quick on if you
if you just joined us here, I started off the
(57:44):
show about an hour ago, but I started off the
show with an update on Randy and Texas Canada. He
has talked to Chris in a video. He's chatted with him.
He had surgery yesterday. He is doing okay. He's as
you would expect coming out coming out of surgery. He's
in recovery now doing well. Wanted to call probably was
(58:07):
advised fortunately by people around him that maybe this isn't
the best time to do that, But we're all pulling
for him, uh, and we told him call when he can. So, uh,
we're expecting a call from him next week, Uh, when
he's when he's up and around and doing a little
bit better. So we're excited that he had a successful
(58:27):
surgery and and hoping for the best, obviously from Randy
and Texarkana. Randy was one of our four captains we
put on the all storyline squad. And before this show
is over, I'll read off the list again in case
anyone uh didn't see where they were when we announced
it on Friday. All right, let's go to Ronnie in
New Jersey. Ronnie has been on the team two years
(58:49):
in a row. Ronnie, what's up?
Speaker 23 (58:51):
Good morning, make and best of wishes to Randy. I
listened to all the guys on the on the show,
and yeah, he sounds like a cool guy. So a
bust of voices to him for a quick recovery exactly. Well, Nick,
I was gonna tell you the other day when I
called you on Friday that I loved that first round
(59:11):
pick man. After listening to this guy speak what wow,
I mean impressed the heck out of me. I mean wow,
the way the guy spoke, he's only what, he's only twenty?
This guy's like beyond his years. It reminds me of
Tyron Smith. When Tyron Smith came in, he was like,
what nineteen?
Speaker 1 (59:32):
Yeah, I think it was twenty, but yeah, I mean
it was, And I think I think Booker's twenty one.
But it's amazing his parents have done an amazing a
job with him and trained him for this moment, and
he was so prepared. It was it was awesome when
we when you hang about I'll say some some of
my favorite things that I heard him say in there
(59:55):
that was just it was just awesome. Makes me just think,
what a good person. But then again, he also he
also has that mean streak as well. It was like,
you want to take the life out of you when
he's playing against you. So I mean it's that life
is about balance, right, You want to have you want
to have a little bit of both, and it sounds
like he was able to turn it on and off.
Speaker 23 (01:00:16):
And that's one of my favorite, like one of my
I know when you when we spoke before the draft,
you asked me, Hey, what were you like, And I
was like, I don't know. I had an offensive lineman,
defensive lineman.
Speaker 4 (01:00:27):
You know, everybody wants the receivers or whatever.
Speaker 23 (01:00:29):
But but this was a heck of a pick and
and that's the best part. I think his mentality. Yeah,
I love the guy's mentality. Like if other guys offensive line,
like our back up, the guy that played right guard
last year, if guys pick up these guys mentality and
play with that and and you know, bring up the atmosphere.
(01:00:50):
Everybody else gets motivated and starts to uh because you
know what I like about him, He seems like he's
not the quiet type of captain we got. We have
too many quidt it's we have too many guys that
lead by his sample. No, no, no, we need a
guy that could lead by his sample, but also has
to be vocal. And I love that this guy seems
that he's very vocal, and I think that's just what
(01:01:12):
we needed. So so I hope that with this draft
and with some of the guys, the Nose Tackle, I
hope that nost Tackle really gives the Masia a run
for his money because just from his film alone, he
looks like he's a big, tough guy, you know. So yeah,
I enjoyed this draft. So thanks for taking my call, Nigga.
Continue listening to.
Speaker 1 (01:01:33):
You, all right, Well, thank you so much. Appreciate the call.
Ronnie from New Jersey. You know, we talked about that
that press conference for Tyler Booker, and and you know,
there were so many things that he said that that
were impressive. The thing that I love the most, and
I don't know why this kind of stuck out more
than others. But when he talked about Jalen Milroe, his
(01:01:55):
quarterback at Alabama, who hadn't been drafted at the time.
I think he got drafted later that night, second or
third round, maybe third round. But but he talked about him,
you know, and and and he was trying to pump
him up, of course, but you know, just talking about
what a great player he was. And and he said,
(01:02:16):
you know, I get a lot of credit for because
I haven't given up a lot of sacks. He's like,
but if Jalen wasn't the athlete that he is, I
would have given up some sacks. That number would have
been a lot higher. Just that self awareness of it's
not all about him. And it's a lot of times
the guy sitting up there, he's just been drafted. It's
easy to kind of do that fall into that you've
(01:02:38):
been told how great you are, but but to to say, hey,
it's a team, it's all of us, It's not just me.
This guy back here. You know, I gave up three sacks.
I would have got three sacks and he got away
from him. That's the type of good person he's He's
just a good person. He's aware, he's a good teammate
and and he understands, you know, reality, and and I
(01:03:02):
just loved I love the humility that came from that answer.
And then when he was talking to his little brother
who was sitting there, and he was just kind of saying,
I'm glad you get to see this. Keep listening to
mom and dad, and you'll have a chance to be here.
I mean, wow, I mean what what what a great
what a great moment? That was too so it was
it was touching exciting all at the same time. Now, great,
(01:03:26):
Now you gotta go play. Now you gotta go be
a mean sob out there on this field and be
the guy that that you know that you were describing
that takes the life out of the players in front
of because that's as a listener, that's what you guys want.
You want that guy, great, great person and all that.
Zach Martin's a great dude, Nate great, jolly Daha. Can
(01:03:47):
you go knock numbers seventy eight off the ball and
get a first down? That's what has to happen. That's
what this what Tyler Brooker is here to do, is
to be mean as hell and push people back so
he's done everything, just like Schottenheimer. You know, everything's great
right now, but when the games, when the lights come
on and the game start, you need to go prove it.
(01:04:09):
And that's you know, that's what we're all waiting to see.
All right, Zach in Atlanta's next?
Speaker 15 (01:04:14):
Zach, Hey, what's up making Frisco?
Speaker 1 (01:04:17):
How you doing?
Speaker 15 (01:04:19):
I'm good? And uh, first team storyline? Thank you for
the selection you made it you're on. Yeah, it's pretty.
Speaker 1 (01:04:27):
Cool, well deserved, well deserved for sure, not only you know. Yeah,
and let me just say this before you get started.
I think you're you're a perfect example for this. It's
not just about the amount of calls, but I know
that you know that does help because that means it
shows commitment. But it's also being memorable, being different, say,
adding something to the show that's a little different, you know,
(01:04:48):
a little quirky or whatever, and so and and you
you do that as far as like always keeping me
on my toes, always have something. I don't know what
you're gonna say, but it's something, and uh, yeah, that's
and that's good. I mean, there are people, honestly I'm
not gonna name names, obviously, but there are people that call,
they call a lot. I don't remember a lot of
the stuff that they say. And that can be good,
(01:05:09):
that could be bad. But like you're little, you're a
little I wouldn't say out there, but you're you're a
little bit.
Speaker 15 (01:05:15):
Uh would you say, my friends call me a wild card?
Speaker 5 (01:05:18):
Right? Never know?
Speaker 1 (01:05:20):
That is perfect? You are the wild card because you
do never know. I'm kind of that way too. Man, Hey,
you don't want to be predictable, right right? Right?
Speaker 15 (01:05:29):
Well that's that's my thing.
Speaker 10 (01:05:30):
Man.
Speaker 15 (01:05:30):
You know, there's so many callers who have just deep
knowledge of the game.
Speaker 4 (01:05:34):
Uh.
Speaker 15 (01:05:34):
And I mean, I feel like they should be getting
paid for their inside I'm like, man, Dylan shout out
to him and the others they.
Speaker 4 (01:05:41):
Are in with No, No, they are not.
Speaker 15 (01:05:44):
I'm addicating right now, I'm advocating they are not all them.
Speaker 1 (01:05:49):
Please let's turn this into an n I L thing
for storyline.
Speaker 15 (01:05:55):
But no, like me, like I know, my guy Anthony
and Miami like we try to bring different flavor and
so it's been a lot of fun. But as far
as the draft goes, one thread and I haven't been
listening it may have been brought up, but one thread
is that a lot of these picks were team captains
on their team, and I'm like, Okay, yeah, I just
(01:06:16):
heard you talking about it. Let's let's see it on
the field. You know, everybody likes a nice guy in
the hall, but let's let's see you just be a monster.
But I'm like, man, can this translate to like cutting
down on penalties and sloppy play, because I feel like
ever since Parcels left that's just been a hallmark of
the Cowboys is you're going to get the penalty at
the wrong time, you know. And I feel like getting
(01:06:39):
the culture right in the locker room is a step
towards that. We got to see it play out. But
of all of all the things that could be said
that have already been said, I'm sure that's when I'm
gonna bring to the table. We got some team captains
on the collegiate level, and hopefully that brings a level
of excellence attention to detail that doesn't in the big
(01:07:00):
spots for us. So I got man.
Speaker 10 (01:07:04):
Appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (01:07:05):
Thank you. That's very very good point. And that question
was asked in the press conference to Schottenheimer, and I
think you know, his answer was kind of like, it's
a it's a product of some of the other things.
They didn't go out drafting for captains. What they were
drafting for was really good football players who loved the game,
that that understand that there's more to it than just
(01:07:27):
going and playing on saturdays for college. That there's a
lot of things that go into this to be the
level of a player that could be drafted, and those
those traits, those those characteristics are what made them a
captain on their team. So, you know, I think it
was more I'm not saying that they backed into it.
(01:07:49):
This is the type of player that they're looking for.
And then and then to say, are you surprised that
he's a captain? Oh, no, I would imagine he would be.
So it's it's that it's that type of thing they don't.
They don't they're not just pulling up a roster like
Virginia Tech, who's the captain? What's our great on them?
Speaker 9 (01:08:05):
Now?
Speaker 1 (01:08:05):
They're doing their homework. They're getting good, smart football players
that loved how to love to play this game and
do it the right way. And what do you know
they were captains on their team. Well, of course they were,
because that's the kind of guys we're looking for. So
I think that that's part of it. Very very good question,
and you're onto something there. I don't know. I don't
(01:08:25):
think it's the top priority, but it's a product of
the things that they were looking for. All right, Champ
in Nebraska is next, Champ. What's right?
Speaker 2 (01:08:33):
Hey?
Speaker 4 (01:08:33):
Nick?
Speaker 8 (01:08:34):
How you doing good?
Speaker 1 (01:08:35):
How are you?
Speaker 4 (01:08:36):
I'm wonderful man, Hey.
Speaker 3 (01:08:38):
First and foremost, I.
Speaker 4 (01:08:39):
Want to shout out Randy bro We're still thinking about
you and praying for you, buddy. It's still better get better,
of course, of course, man, thank you so much. I
know you said earlier got into a little bit of
the tank offs. That's our thank you offs and nice.
Thank you so much for the second team all storyline. Yeah,
I'll be honest, I was hoping that. I wasn't thinking
(01:09:00):
I would get in because I don't pull off and
I try to go about once a week just to
get a point for the week and be done. But
I appreciate that. Thank you to you, Chris being Derek,
I do thank you forgotten to mention one honorable mentioned
person that should be on the storyline team every year,
and that's Woody there.
Speaker 1 (01:09:21):
He's like, yes, sir, okay, he scared me for a second.
Comes on, and who did I who did I leave off? Listen,
we just gave We just gave Darren Woodson a big
old lion poster. You know. Now he's there, Darren's on,
always on the team. He's got open invitation for that
(01:09:41):
seat right there. That's right, you're right, you're right about that.
I I like to think that goes without saying. But
you know, you're right. I could have said that. I
could have put Darren honorary Member of all time. Uh,
you know what, You're right. I'll see if I can
give him one of these one of these mugs.
Speaker 3 (01:09:58):
But that's awesome.
Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
Yeah, for sure, go ahead.
Speaker 4 (01:10:04):
Going to the draft, man, I will be honest. Right
off the bat, I was like, dang it, disappointed we
didn't get.
Speaker 3 (01:10:10):
Tet because that's what you've been hearing, you.
Speaker 4 (01:10:12):
Know, receiver receiver receiver got Booker.
Speaker 3 (01:10:15):
And I'm like, Okay, let me kind of see what
this guy's about.
Speaker 4 (01:10:18):
Heard him talk and I'm sold ez A Roku and
Revel Jr. In the second and third rounds. I mean,
I'm drinking the kool aid. Everything I'm hearing, I'm I
appreciate it. Going down to the seventh round. You, I'm
sure you probably watched Chris Berman and Tom Jackson back
in the old days in the nineties. I don't remember
(01:10:40):
what it was. Boomer had a saying where he would
say something and Tom Jackson would reply, watch your mouth
like he was Conda.
Speaker 3 (01:10:49):
Implying a cuss word, but he wasn't saying it.
Speaker 4 (01:10:53):
And I think that that'd be great for MafA. Yeah
that he you know, they'd be like, hey, he's a
bad and then I could hear Tom Jackson going, hey,
watch your mouth, he's a bad mouth.
Speaker 3 (01:11:07):
No, yeah, there you go.
Speaker 4 (01:11:09):
I don't know if it was appropriate to say or not.
Speaker 3 (01:11:10):
I don't want to get benned or anything.
Speaker 1 (01:11:12):
So that's that's okay, that's all right. Uh No, I mean, hey,
he needs to be one.
Speaker 3 (01:11:19):
I mean, that's exactly right.
Speaker 1 (01:11:21):
Because I can promise you this the first time. Speaking
of Chris Berman and Tom Jackson, the first time Mike
all Start took the ball, it was Mike all Start
up the middle for eight yards, four yards whatever. It
wasn't ntil later in his career when when he started
the right right, you gotta you gotta be that guy.
You gotta develop it, and hey, he's a seventh round
(01:11:43):
running back, So whatever that is, if it is shoulder
injuries or what would like like we've heard, this is
a great chance to prove it, get healthy, get ready
to go, and you won't really know until training camp
when the Pats come on if he's going to be
you know what type of player he's going to be.
But you know they're they're excited about Jaydon Blue of course,
(01:12:04):
and you know this is they're gonna get chances to
go do something. But especially if these guys up front,
you get that line up front, Babe Tyler Smith and
of course now Booker pushing people back, you know it
might open up for a guy like MafA or Blue.
Speaker 4 (01:12:20):
Yes, I'm excited.
Speaker 3 (01:12:22):
I'm excited for our running game is coming.
Speaker 6 (01:12:24):
Here.
Speaker 3 (01:12:25):
One other quick questions and I'll take it off there
and listen to your answer.
Speaker 4 (01:12:28):
Is how close do you think or how probable was
it that had Shidler been there, we take him personally?
By that point, I was like, okay, I'm okay with
it if we take him at this point, but I'll
take it off there. I'll let you reply.
Speaker 3 (01:12:45):
Thank you guys so much again for the all story
second Team. I'm grants all of the other guys.
Speaker 1 (01:12:50):
All right, thank you, Champ, appreciate that. I think there
were some Johnny Manziel moments as far as one guy
that that was interested, maybe more than the rest who
had done done the homework there. I don't know, I mean,
(01:13:15):
I'm I'm kind of hesitanted to say. I don't want
to compare them exactly the same because the situation is
completely completely different. But it reminded me a little bit
of a few years ago with Colin Kaepernick, and it's
just like, there's a lot of stuff now that's going
to be around this person. Are are you good enough
(01:13:36):
to be worth it? And and that's that's the thing,
that's what it really came down to, was just is
he good is he good enough for for to be
And even if it's fifth round, sixth round, you know,
he's your second third quarterback, probably your your third quarterback
trying to be a backup, and is all of what's
probably going to be around and listening to people chirping
(01:13:59):
on and and a very vocal dad, I mean very
vocal and invisible dad who's who's a friend of the family.
Of course, there was just a lot to it, and
it just comes down to is this guy good enough?
Is he good enough to do what you're wanting him
to do? And and and we'll we'll see, I mean,
you know we we Doc went to the fourth round,
(01:14:20):
Brady went to the sixth. There's a lot of quarterbacks
that kind of happen like that. Now, you know, now
he's going to have to prove what what he can
go and do, and maybe Cleveland's a good spot. I
think I think most of the room was kind of
sold that this is probably not as good as as
what they had. They just traded a sixth round pick
for Joe Milton to be a backup there for for Doc,
(01:14:40):
and he's got Will Greer, and I just think that
they thought that was probably better than anything else that
they had. All Right, Steve in New York is next, Hey,
how are you doing?
Speaker 24 (01:14:51):
Thank you for the uh for the acknowledgement.
Speaker 1 (01:14:53):
Then got you on the third team, always always throwing
in or not always sometimes throwing in trivia questions always
finally so uh, yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:15:03):
I got one for you.
Speaker 24 (01:15:04):
And I apologize because I couldn't hear that when I'm
on hold the last call, because I was going to
ask you hypothetically, I don't like hypothetic questions. But if
Milton wasn't signed, I picked number seventy six, or are
we even do you think they're even looking in that direction?
Because I heard who you know, you're obviously talking about Sanders.
Is that something that they're even third round? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:15:27):
You mean third round? Yeah, you know, if you don't draft,
if you don't sign Milton, then then yeah, you are.
You are looking differently there at your quarterback position. And
I don't know if it would have been Sanders, you know,
and and Quinn yours also like like you know, Jerry's
getting Jerry's getting I mean he's got he's got a
(01:15:48):
there's people in in the room, in the war room
that played on the same team as him, so you
know there there's there's some messages going on back and
forth and all that. I just don't think that they
were really that interested. But you're hypothetically, if you go
into the draft without a solid backup, then yeah, that
might change some things. But they would have probably drafted
(01:16:08):
one a little bit earlier, and I don't know if
it would have been those guys. It may not have been,
but it would.
Speaker 24 (01:16:13):
Have been interesting. I'll tell you that, Like people ask
me every year, you know, what do you think of
the draft? And I say what I always say, which
is the two things I pay no attention in football
when they talk about. One is power rankings I talk
about I don't even know what that means when they
talk about power rankings, and when they give draft day
report cards, and I'm saying, yeah, I don't know how
(01:16:34):
you can grade a draft based on guys who haven't
played yet. Like, remember when we took what year was
Travis Frederick thirteen whatever, whatever year that was. Remember how
people said, oh, that's kind of a reach. They could
have got him later. You know, how great did he
turn out to be?
Speaker 1 (01:16:52):
Exactly?
Speaker 24 (01:16:52):
And last year with Geyton, who I think is going
to be good, it was okay, now you got your
left tackle, Now we're set there for you know, and
he struggled. So you know, let the guys play. Let
these guys.
Speaker 4 (01:17:04):
Play, well, yeah, and see what happens.
Speaker 10 (01:17:06):
I agree.
Speaker 1 (01:17:07):
I mean, really, those draft grades are really just a
reflection of the of the whoever's doing the grading of
their own grades. To start with, if somebody said that
Shirro Sanders is a top ten, top twenty pick, and
he goes to the fifth round. Then obviously the Browns
are going to get you know, some great value because
where they got him. And if somebody was a reach,
you know on their board. If somebody has Booker twenty
(01:17:30):
fifth on their board and the Cowboys aren't going to
get a good grade, But what does that guy know?
I mean, he doesn't. I mean, nobody knows really anything.
So if grades are just kind of weird, they're just
a reflection of the work you've already done, or lack
of work that maybe that you've copied from other people.
I mean, really what a lot of that is. So
I don't put a lot of stock in that. You know,
who cares other than what.
Speaker 15 (01:17:51):
The Cowboys had.
Speaker 24 (01:17:52):
I'm with you, and of course I can hit you
with the tribute before I go. I don't think I
ask you this one, but Parcell's first year's coach two
thousand and three, first game, okay against Atlanta, this guy
scored a sixty three yard.
Speaker 10 (01:18:07):
Wow.
Speaker 24 (01:18:08):
You know, you know, I think he scored two touchdowns
or three touchdowns his entire career.
Speaker 1 (01:18:14):
Yeah, he went right down, right down the right sideline,
right in front of the Cowboys bench. He sure did
you know who else scored a touchdown in that game.
Speaker 25 (01:18:21):
I believe I think he did. Would he, Danceler, He
definitely played. Actually, he definitely played for Atlanta. He played
for for Atlanta and that game against the Cowboys.
Speaker 23 (01:18:35):
Uh, he may not have.
Speaker 1 (01:18:37):
Scored a touchdown in that game, but yeah, yeah, yeah,
because Parcels didn't didn't keep him on there. But anyways, yeah, that.
Speaker 6 (01:18:44):
Was with you.
Speaker 24 (01:18:45):
You say Danceler, you say dancel. I only think of
one thing, and that's the kickoffs. Oh yeah, that seriously,
because it happened at a bad and the Cowboys weren't great,
that that was still one of the greatest players I've
ever seen.
Speaker 4 (01:18:58):
Ever in the years.
Speaker 1 (01:19:01):
Yeah, you can ask Derek Eagleton will be in this
seat here in about ten minutes with Cowboys break and
he asked him his favorite play of all time, and
he'll say what he Danceler me me as well as
far as just great, great, absolute great play on the field,
just had everything. That wasn't the most meaningful play, but
it was just it was unbelievable. Yeah, it's one of
my favorites of all time for sure. But yeah, yeah,
(01:19:22):
Ayban Tason in that game, Jason Witten's first game, his
first catch ever in that game. But yeah, they lost.
I don't remember twenty three ten, something like that, twenty
to ten, wasn't that?
Speaker 24 (01:19:34):
Twenty three, twenty three, seventeen, twenty seven, thirteen, twenty.
Speaker 1 (01:19:38):
Seven thirty, twenty seven thirteen? Got it?
Speaker 24 (01:19:40):
Okay, Nick, thanks again, man.
Speaker 1 (01:19:42):
Thank you appreciate that. And then let's go. Let's go
our last caller here. We got to get this quick. Robbie,
Robbie Kokobe Floriter. What's up man?
Speaker 10 (01:19:51):
What's up?
Speaker 23 (01:19:52):
How you doing on the last minute?
Speaker 1 (01:19:54):
I know I gotta I gotta squeeze you in here quickly,
So what's up? Man?
Speaker 5 (01:19:57):
All right?
Speaker 4 (01:19:58):
And I'll just say hey, I'll call it next week
and give you my thoughts on the draft.
Speaker 5 (01:20:02):
Yeah, awesome that we got a guard for you.
Speaker 2 (01:20:04):
Because I like that choice too. And uh, thanks you
and all the guys to UH.
Speaker 23 (01:20:10):
And Yetti for putting it together and giving us a
little gift for calling in and talking about our.
Speaker 1 (01:20:14):
Team for sure.
Speaker 23 (01:20:14):
Lastly, yeah, thank wood or Darren Woodson for answer my questions.
They get to talk to him, but he answered the
question I have that's.
Speaker 1 (01:20:21):
Right, that's right, you did have you right there at
the end. But we still were able to throw that
in there. Yeah, Robbie, thank you, First team er, all
storyline squad. We will announce that whole team. I'll do
it next week. I'll start off the show and announce
the whole the whole team. If there's any questions here,
but but yeah, Robbie, you're definitely on it. You call
as much as anybody, and we are always appreciative of you.
Speaker 9 (01:20:45):
All Right, we'll talk to you next.
Speaker 1 (01:20:46):
But now, all right, appreciate that. All right, great, great show, guys,
I'm gonna have to get out of here. A lot
of fun. We'll do it next Wednesday for Chris Beam.
I'm nick even seeing next that one's storyline.
Speaker 17 (01:20:57):
This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
