Speaker 1 (00:03):
The following He is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot
Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
This He's Cowboys storyline with Nick Eatman.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
What's up? Welcome to Cowboys Storyline. It's Wednesday, March twenty sixth.
It feels like it's been forever since I've been on
the air. I know it's only been a week, but
still it feels like it's I can't say a lot
has happened, but still, this once a week show stuff
is it's too much for me. I know you guys
wish we had shows on a regular basis. We'll get
(00:45):
back to that during the season. I kind of like
the break. I know Chris Beam likes the break a
little bit, but it is fun to talk to you guys.
So we'll get a chance to do that today for
an hour and some change before we've got Cowboys Break
at eleven and so we've got some time to chat
with you guys. You already had a couple of callers
on the line. You guys know the drill eighty eight
(01:06):
eight five five to two nine seven. It's the number
to call. Let's get start it. Let's go right to
Brian and Kansas City, Brian, what's.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
Up, man?
Speaker 3 (01:15):
What do you got?
Speaker 4 (01:16):
Good morning, sir? Morning?
Speaker 5 (01:19):
You know I was I was talking to uh. I
don't know if you know this. There's other shows on
dot com. I don't know if you were aware.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
I'm aware I've been on one of them. I've been
on all of them probably at some point.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
At some point.
Speaker 5 (01:32):
Yeah, I'm gonna tell you've probably been on every show
that there's ever been, Right.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
I don't know about Girls Talk, Boys Talk. I don't
know if I've been invited to that. But but for
the for the most part, I think I've been on
all of them. But anyways, what's up? What caught your ear?
And those other shows?
Speaker 5 (01:48):
Well, you know, this week I was thinking, you know,
after we re signed Osa and you know, listening to everything,
and there's always some wild cards the draft, right, there's
always you know, the Raiders always do something off the wall,
right that throws everything, you know kind of yeah, has
that domino effect. But what I think, what happens if
(02:15):
Mason Graham falls to twelve?
Speaker 4 (02:19):
Do you what do you.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
Do if that's if that's the best player on your
board and you just gave Osa and Graham's for people
that you know, maybe don't follow real closely. Graham's a
three tech from Michigan.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Oh no, no, Michigan out, yeah, exactly, no, no, no, yeah, no,
no Michigan defensive lineman.
Speaker 5 (02:37):
Right, he can he can go, he can go sit
on a beach with this taco somewhere. But but you know,
what do you do? You just paid Osa twenty million dollars?
Speaker 4 (02:48):
Do you do you?
Speaker 5 (02:50):
And and this is not a super strong draft, meaning
I don't think there'd be a ton of people knocking
on your door saying, hey, I want to trade up, right,
And maybe if Graham's there, maybe there would be you know,
somebody there, And I know, so I'd be curious for
for other callers, and of course for you.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
What would you do?
Speaker 5 (03:09):
You know it brought us always says we don't window
address our board if that's the best player on the board,
regardless to the fact that you already have a twenty
million dollars three tech.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Yeah, what do you do?
Speaker 5 (03:21):
And I'll hang up with my brothers.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
Good to talk to you, Yeah, good to talk to you.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Good, good question. You know, it's one of those things
I always I always look at best available need I
don't look at best available player, I say best available need.
And as I'm as I'm watching this, I love having
the NFL Network on because of this little scroll down
here that have everybody in the world has their own
mock draft. And so I just saw where the fourth
(03:48):
pick in the in the draft, I mean was the Patriots.
They had Graham. So that would be quite a fall
probably for him. I'm not saying that he would go that.
These mock drafts are the you know, the Gospel or
anything like that, but he is supposed to go higher
than that. So if he falls, are the what the
Cowboys do?
Speaker 4 (04:07):
You know?
Speaker 3 (04:07):
And then so I say best available need? Is that
a big need at that point? Now? Having defensive tackles
that can play in a rotation that's not something we're
used to having a lot of too many of. But yeah,
I mean when when you did pay for Osa and
then could they play together? Sure they could, but but
(04:29):
is that really the style that you want? So I
I would probably pass, and I would maybe maybe wait
for the phone or to ring see if if if
if he's a guy that somebody would uh, you know,
try to trade up for. So I just feel like
there's there's other needs there probably gonna get a really
(04:50):
good football player in him. But but I would probably
go another route. I just I still would go with
an offensive lineman. I mean that's probably if I get
asked again today, that would be my pick. I think
would be an offensive lineman, a tackle, a guard. We'll see,
(05:11):
you know whoever's there is some somebody that can do both,
I'd be That's probably where I would would lean. All right,
let's go to second caller Randy in Texas, Canada. What's up,
my friend, my man, how you doing.
Speaker 6 (05:26):
I'm all right? Uh, I wanted to call in two.
Part of my ask you question is crazy because what
I was about to talk about was what you just
finished with.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Oh ah.
Speaker 6 (05:36):
But the first half I want to talk to my
fellow storyliners, and I need to let them all know
that this year we've got the draft coming up. Let's
please stick with the top one, two, three pick scenarios.
Some of them called last year where they were into
trading their neighbors dogs in the eighth round of four
(05:57):
years from now and all that kind of stuff. Age,
it's too much. You've got a better chance of Jerry
Jones turned the team over to you than for your scenario.
To work, so let's try to keep it up somewhat
took toward the top there to make it fun.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
And time out.
Speaker 6 (06:14):
You get me.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
I just have a question, can you can you trade
the neighbors dog? I mean, is that something you can do?
Because I mean, believe me, there's some scenarios in my
life where I wouldn't mind trading the neighbor's dog. So
is that something that's on the table.
Speaker 6 (06:28):
Anything is possible, my friends, Oh, hold on, listen, there
you go ahead.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
You get on.
Speaker 6 (06:35):
I hadn't done that in a while. Yeah, okay, So
what I'll go get to what you were finishing up
with is I was actually gonna bring up the offensive line,
and I've all I've been all about the wide receiver,
running back, linebacker, blah blah, blah blah blah. Last week
I was listening to uh Hanging with Boys and Jesse
and Nate brought up a scenario that I couldn't agree
(06:59):
with more. And I'm not sure about who's available because
I hadn't really got into it very deep. But left
tackle now, I know we picked one last year and
got but yeah, you know, I don't want to say
Aaron badmouth the guy but give him time to grow.
But everybody says he's more of a right Make him
(07:21):
a swing tackle, Let him grow into his body, let
him grow into his knowledge and all that good stuff.
Have him more of a right tackle future behind Terran. Yeah,
and there a left tackle out there in the draft
that would be a much better trade or not a trade,
but a pick at twelve. Because if we could do
(07:42):
that this year and we've got all of our young
guys in the middle, and then have a number one
top down the right, I mean, we wouldn't have to
sweat our running back as much this year because build
that line this year. Next year, go after top running back.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
And now you're saying I'm with you, I'm yeah, I
like I like the offensive tackle at twelve, you know,
like like better than I liked it at twenty what
it was, twenty seven, twenty eight. I can't remember where
they even got guided because they traded him back, but
they traded back. But I mean, I just like the
offensive any prospect at twelve over twenty twenty eight, you know,
(08:24):
I mean, you're gonna like better, but I'm for that.
And one of those guys is going to fall. One
of those guys that you know is projected a little
bit higher than that. What if it's the LSU guy
Will Campbell, which a lot of people think maybe is
more of a guard. But I'm looking at our draft
magazine that our staff put together. Kyle Yeoman's Tommy Yarish
(08:48):
helped put this together. So I'm just looking at the
offensive tackles there, and it's hard to see because like
the number one guy here is Kelvin Banks from Texas,
and I've seen him all over the first round, so
and some people will project him as a guard. Josh Simmons,
Ohio State. Some of these guys, the guy from Missouri,
I'm not even gonna try to pronounce that one yet.
(09:08):
So anyways, I like, but if the guy that they like,
the cowboys like that sitting there, that they they have
a greade on that that's worthy of the twelfth pick,
I'd be totally fine with that. Though even though you
picked the Guyton Guiden hasn't proven that he's ready to
be a starter in this league left or right. When
he proves that great great problem to have, great problem
(09:30):
to have, we got all these guys, but right now
he hasn't shown that. So maybe that motivates him because
he's got some tools. I mean, he's it's there, he's
just got to got to get it figured out. But
I love that scenario. I don't hate that at all
because that helps your your whole team, your quarterback, your
running back, your receivers magically get better when your offensive line.
Speaker 6 (09:49):
Is better and you and you look at what everybody
says about the Eagles in their Super Bowl winn Oh,
their offensive line. They're defensive line, which is balls right
under your your collar from up doors. I always yeah,
last and give him his props. He I know, he
says it ever done, and he's right. I mean, he's right.
Speaker 4 (10:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (10:10):
Remember last year when I called in, I said, throw
everything at the lines. I mean, and and do you
get those beats up? All the little fellas out there
and looking pretty on the side, they're not gonna do
as much.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
That's right.
Speaker 6 (10:22):
That's right, brother, to get to the next one.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Andy, good stuff. Appreciate it. Yeah, I just that's that
would be a scenario that I would like. Now, I'm
if the running you know, if Genty's there at twelve,
and that would be that would be a fun pick.
And uh and I think that would be worthy of it.
I'm not so sold on the receiver, but let's see
(10:50):
what happens here between now and the draft. I think
if they do anything else in free agency, I would
think it's be a receiver. So let's just see you
if there's anything else in the works ere And I
don't know that specifically, but I would think the Cowboys
would probably have that position a little bit more short
(11:11):
up going into the draft. That doesn't mean you don't
draft the guy at twelve, because whoever you're bringing in
doesn't mean he's going to be here for a long
long time. But I still think there's some more moves
out there. I think backup quarterbacks another one that I
think the Cowboys are still obviously gonna address here at
some point. All right, Oh, my man, Joe, and Stanford
is on the line. Joe, it's been a while.
Speaker 7 (11:32):
What's up, hey, brother? So I'm going over on my
break at work. Because you started ride at nine thirty.
It was like, I'm gonna get in this time.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
So good job.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
It's worth it.
Speaker 7 (11:42):
Though hopefully I don't get in too much trouble.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Hope not.
Speaker 7 (11:46):
Yeah, Now, I'll be all right. So you are talking draft,
I sent you I sent a text on this topic.
But I like drafting best available almost no matter what.
Now there's there's like two or three guys that could
drop to that twelve spot that I think no matter
(12:08):
you know, it doesn't matter that they're what their position is.
They're just straight up studs. Yeah, and studs get drafted
no matter what. I don't care what your position need is.
I don't care if you've got I like to tied
end from Penn State.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
I was about to say. I was about to say, well,
if it's tied end from Penn State, you like it?
Speaker 8 (12:26):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (12:26):
Yeah, I like him.
Speaker 7 (12:27):
He reminds me of Bowers. Now I'm not sure he's
gonna be as good as Bowers, but he reminds me
a whole lot of Bowers. I wanted Bowers last year.
He told me I was stupid.
Speaker 9 (12:37):
I love Bowers.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Yeah, I mean I watched college football and I feel
like I know a lot of the stuff, a lot
of the great players. But did he just kind of
burst onto the scene late? Or was I did I Warren?
But did I just not ever hear about him?
Speaker 7 (12:51):
He had one hundred and fifty three receptions in college
one hundred and three of them last year. So so
he just found a coach that I think it's just
finally some coach said this guy is a stunt.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
Why Yeah, I like it.
Speaker 7 (13:07):
So as I say, I'm best available guy myself. But
if if, if, if all the guys I really love dropping, Yeah,
I'm with you, let's get an off into tackle man.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
I mean, I don't know if they can mess this
one up. I really don't, you know. I mean, even
if you trade back a little bit, there's just so
many needs and so many really good players that I
think that they're going to get in it. And if
they did that and got their third round pick or
fourth round pick back, you know, and the pick that
they had for Mingo, if they if they did that,
still picked up a really good player.
Speaker 10 (13:40):
You know.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
I think I think that that it's hard. It's hard
to go wrong here. So uh, I'm excited about what
they've done because I think they've done just enough in
free agency, just enough to kind of, you know, put
some band aids on a few positions, and then they
should be in good shape and heading into the draft.
There's really not a major like glaring need the like, well,
(14:00):
you've got to get this position but kind of like
they did last year with offensive line. You had to
get an offensive lineman, but this year you don't. You're
not pigeonholed into doing that.
Speaker 7 (14:11):
Yeah, I agree. I want to shout out to storyliners
on X. I don't get on there as much to participate,
but I pay a lot of attention to it, and
I appreciate what those guys are doing.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
Gotta go, brother, all right, thank you appreciate it. Don't
get in trouble at work there. Thanks Joe and Stanford. Uh.
And he's he's thanking the people on Storyline X, the
storyliners that have their own I guess it's their own.
The spaces is what's called a little community over there.
It's pretty awesome. Uh. And ironically, the guy that is
(14:44):
one of the people's spear hitting that is Dylan in
north Port, Florida. Who's next? So Dylan, Joe's doing a
shout out to you.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
What's up next? Up? Joe?
Speaker 3 (14:55):
How you doing good? How's it going over there?
Speaker 4 (14:57):
With?
Speaker 3 (14:58):
I mean, I always mess up how to say it?
Say it? Give me like the cliff Notes version of
what what is that? What do y'all call yourself? A
little community over there?
Speaker 11 (15:07):
Spaces.
Speaker 9 (15:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (15:08):
Yeah, so it's on Twitter, slash x, whatever you want.
Speaker 11 (15:11):
To call it.
Speaker 12 (15:11):
It's the Cowboys Storyliners and it's you just go to
the search thing imajig up in the top right corner
of Twitter and just search the community. It's type in
storyliners or Cowboys story liners. We should pop right up,
and we do. I changed the date of our spaces.
Our spaces are like little hangouts we do. I try
to kind of keep it open, but it gets a
little wild in there.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
As you know.
Speaker 12 (15:32):
Last week that was probably the most intense one that
we've had in sometime. I felt that for Rob. I
let Rob kind of defend himself, but it was like
the last alumo out there. He was like getting hit
from every angle. And yeah, he did a good job.
But yeah, yeah, it's at a certain point you got
to kind of step in and you got to go
to hand raises and all that. But yeah, no, we
have our spaces every Thursday night at nine pm Eastern,
(15:53):
so I guess i'd be eight Central time.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
Yeah. You you do a nice job navigating that. You
have to kind of tell everyone calm down and you
mute everyone. I've said that happened a couple of times
like okay, I'm muting everyone. Everyone, Everyone calmed down, relax,
all right.
Speaker 12 (16:08):
So I tryed to abuse my powers, but it gets
to a certain point where you can't hear anything.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
It's fun. That's I love that that that that's what
this show is kind of ignited. So as long as
you guys don't forget about, you know, this show and
just forget we don't need that anymore. We got our
own community. So no, I love that you guys have
done that and and and picked up friends and you
know along the way, uh, people all across the world.
(16:36):
Really that you guys are able to talk to it's
pretty awesome.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (16:39):
Well, you know, I started this thing because you were
after that first season. You were going on break for
a couple of months there, and I was like, well,
he had a lot of progress as far as the
listener a count and all that stuff, you know, are
doing really well. I'm like, I don't want to keep the
momentum going, so what can I do? So that's kind
of come up with this thing.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
Yeah, all right, what you got?
Speaker 12 (16:55):
Yeah, draft talk? Offensive line, man, I'm totally cool with that.
I know a lot of cowboys isn't. But you got
to remember. I just tell people, think about twenty fourteen,
Think about twenty sixteen. Those teams were really good.
Speaker 10 (17:06):
For what reason?
Speaker 12 (17:06):
It was the offensive line. Okay, you got a rookie
quarterback step in who was a fourth round pick, and
he succeeded. He played very very well, far beyond expectations,
probably because the offensive line are a big part of it.
What was the offensive line and the running game that
you had, So in order to re establish that running
game and get this thing going again, I think you
got to invest in the offensive line.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
Now.
Speaker 12 (17:25):
Doesn't mean you got to pick one of twelve, you know.
I'm kind of hoping for a trade back situation into
maybe the late teams eighteen, nineteen twenty somewhere around there,
maybe a Tyler Banks is available because I think we
have a need at right guard as well. I know
you're talking about left tackle, but I think right guard
is also a need. It's a big question mark for me,
So I'm cool with the scenario. Like I'm also cool
with picking like a Tech McMillan at twelve. I mean,
(17:46):
it just depends who falls. But you're right, dude, Like
whether they trade back or pick a guy unless they
just like really go off the wall and grab somebody
that's like, who the heck is that they really can't
mess this up. There's going to be a lot of
really good players. And I'm seeing mock drafts now where
like Matthew Golden's going in the top ten. So it's
changing up quite a bit here now compared to what
it was just a couple of weeks ago. So I'm
excited to see, you know, where this thing goes. And
(18:08):
I'm hoping that maybe, I don't know, if we can
do something with your show here where maybe the callers
can call in and maybe a couple of weeks and
we can do like a first round mock and to
see the Cowboys are going to take as far as
the fan perspective and get like our official our official
picks in and get it tally and like that's maybe
who the storyliners want for pick number one in the draft.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
Yeah, we can discuss that, we can figure out how
to make that work the best way. But yeah, I
know that the Draft show does some of those kind
of things, but still, yeah, for you guys, that would
be awesome. We we'll figure out how to do that
the best way. You know, our show's on Wednesdays. The
drafts on Thursday, obviously, so that might be a great
(18:49):
show before the day before the draft. We'll figure out
how to be creative and do that where you guys
can be involved. So I love it.
Speaker 12 (18:58):
Sweet sounds good man, Thanks.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Day, appreciate it. Thank you. Dylan in Northport, Florida. I
think the lines are open right now. Eight eight eight
eight five five two two nine seven is the number
to call. We was talking about the offensive line and
and and great players, you know, the you know, different positions.
We've talked about that with the other callers as well.
I mean, I know the Cowboys feel this way and
(19:22):
I'm and I'm fine with it as well. If if
the twelfth pick is an edge rusher, okay, I mean
that's that's great too. I mean, yes, you've got Micah,
and I think that the plan is to is to
keep them in and and trying to figure you know
this out, and contract negotiations continue with him. But but
I you know, if if if having another pass rusher
(19:44):
on the other side is the top you know, fifteen pick,
top twelve, whatever it is, yeah, I'd be I'd be
totally fine with that as long as it's somebody that
can I mean, obviously they should be able to rush
from both sides. I mean, you're not gonna be picked
in the first round if you can't get to the
quarterback and from different ways. But somebody that can understand
(20:06):
how to how to flip spots left side, right side,
maybe through the middle, because you know Mike is going
to do that and that's how Mike is effective. And
so when Mike is flipping from each side, then the
other guy's got to flip as well. So as long
as you've got a guy that can that can do that,
is comfortable playing all over the line, then that would
be exciting you know for me. I mean I that
that that would be a position that I think that
(20:28):
because that that can also help your team. Immediately we
saw that with Micah. Michah comes in he was able
to rush the way he did change that whole team.
And then when Dak went down uh in his rookie season,
that defense was was ready to go and carry Cooper
rushing that team until Dak got back and the defense
was great all year long. Instant impact. I'm not saying
(20:51):
Michaeh would be you know, there would be another Micah
and the strap that there could be I mean there
there could be teams didn't see Micah the way, uh
the way dan Quinn actually had a vision for him,
and so that that was really big. And so what
I'm saying is is pass rusher is another position that
can help your team instantly. There All right, Uh, Chris,
(21:12):
we don't We don't have another call, do we we do? Okay,
just give it to me blind. Then whoever we got
put them on the line. What's up?
Speaker 4 (21:22):
What's up? Gavin? And Oklahoma? What's up?
Speaker 10 (21:24):
Man?
Speaker 3 (21:24):
How you doing? I needed like I needed four more
words than I would have. I would have nailed it.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
Yeah, there's not a lot of people that sound exactly
like you. I would have got it, gat man.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
What's up man? How you feeling?
Speaker 3 (21:37):
I'm doing great? Get this computer restarted here? I Don'm
not getting the messages. What's up with you?
Speaker 11 (21:44):
Well, I'm gonna tell you where I'm at with some
thoughts about where the Cowboys are at right now, and
then I'm gonna ask you a couple of quick questions.
So something tells me the Cowboys are done in free agency.
I think a lot of people get that impression Personally,
I'm happy that they were more active in free agency
(22:05):
this year and added some depths, but I don't think
I'm very comfortable with them not adding anymore before the draft.
I feel like they're setting themselves up, as they have
in the past that really had to knock this draft
out of the park, and even to be honest, even then,
I don't know that that would be enough to get
us to the ultimate goal. I do feel more optimistic
(22:26):
about this year, because I mean I felt like this
last year too. But I'm pleased with our superstars. I
think we have a great trio of superstars, and we
have a few stars mixed in as well, and that's great. However,
I feel like as fans, it gets frustrating when you
get the feeling that the Cowboys aren't doing everything they
(22:49):
possibly can to get to the super Bowl in a
given year. I feel like the front office really tries
to balance the present and the future, which is great.
Every team has to do that to an extent. However,
while you have CD in his prime, Michael and his prime,
while you have Dak Prescott under center, I really think
(23:12):
you have to take advantage of that. I think I
speak for Cowboys fans when I say, I would be
great if we made it to even just the championship
game and then had some years of rebuilding in the future.
I just truly think that the Cowboys need to go
all in on the present, as Jerry said last year.
(23:33):
So yeah, I say all that. I'm so sorry.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
No, man, go ahead, I mean, you're you're right, You're right,
and I understand that that frustration. I actually do not
think they're done. I don't think that they're done yet.
Speaker 11 (23:48):
That was gonna be my question to you. Do you
think they're done? And are you comfortable with where they're at?
Is what I was going to ask you.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
No, I you know, it's hard to know exactly what
they can do money wise and things like that. I'm
sure they can, you know, still still work a few
things out. I think that there's got to be a
backup quarterback, but that that's not that's not something that
anybody's thinking of is going to help them as far
as you know, you don't. You don't expect dak To
(24:16):
to miss a bunch of time. And if so, it's
it's hard to think that you're gonna you're gonna be
you know, just the same or if not better. But
but you're thinking about players that can come right in
and help in the starting lineup, and I, yeah, I
still think that there's gonna be some a move made
at some point. I don't think that they're done. I
just don't think when you lose like Brandon Cooks who
(24:38):
signed with the with the Saints, but when you lose
Cooks and you have Tolbert coming back and then Turpin
with CD, I just don't think that Because if that's
the case, then I think you do have to draft
the receiver twelve or forty four or whatever. I think
you have to. Yeah, that's why I think that they'll
probably uh add a receiver. That's what I believe. I
(25:03):
think they are going to add a receiver at some point.
I don't know if it's going to be the one
that you know, you know that that you love the most,
or whatever whoever's out there could be a trade. I
just think that the Cowboys are going to add a
receiver or you know, another another splash player let me
put air quotes on Splash, but another maybe high profile players.
I know what you mean that you've heard of.
Speaker 11 (25:25):
I mean, if they could add a corner and a
receiver that could come in and start. I would be
as static as far as heading into the draft, because
you still have needs, but you put yourself in a
place where if you do knock the draft out of
the park, you're in a good place to compete. Even
though this team is already competitive.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
Yeah, I mean they're competitive, but I mean last year
showed us that, you know, against the good teams, they
really they really didn't have it, you know, they they weren't.
Speaker 11 (25:56):
That has always been a problem, even in the great years.
The injuries kicked us, you know, last year, but even
while they were healthy, it just didn't look like they
was going to be able to compete with the top
of the NFC.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
Now they're not close to the Eagles right now, So.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Right that was a that's reality.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
And you know, you got to face them twice. So yeah,
that's that's where they got to get better, for sure.
They got to be be able to be on that level.
Speaker 11 (26:22):
So the last thing I'll say before I get off
here is I don't claim to be one of these
fans that knows what's going on in the front office
and between agents and people sign and I've really never
got the sense that Dak wanted to sign before he
signed the or CD. So I'm not ragging on the
front office when I say this, but something tells me
they could have had this mich A deal done. I
(26:43):
really feel like they're just hanging over a million or
two or a detail here or a detail there. Although
these things take time, I feel like if they could
just get him signed, maybe they could make that splash move.
I really would hate to see a player that Dallas
was interested in just just come off the board if
the interest was mutual. Because the negotiation took too long,
(27:05):
I'm not exactly sure what they are with finances on
making stuff happen. Maybe they couldn't make the move and
then sign Michael later.
Speaker 4 (27:11):
And still feel good about it.
Speaker 11 (27:12):
It's just I'm not sure about that. But I feel
like they really need to get that done.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
Yeah, and that's all I'll say.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
I'd like to get things for the call of Govin Yeah,
I'd like to see that that deal done as well.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
You know, you.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
Said some things about DAK and CD maybe not really
wanted to get that deal done. I mean, I think
what you're on your understanding, not everyone does this because
because people don't, you know, it's easy to blame Jerry
and Steven and not necessarily the players or their agents
forget that part, and that that happens a lot. The
(27:51):
player is tired of it too. The player wants to
get the deal done. The player is not necessarily concerned
with as much with what this means to the other receivers,
the other quarterbacks, the other pass rushers, whatever. There's a
game that's played there that you know, everyone kind of
works together and keep these prices moving up and all
(28:13):
that stuff. The player kind of gets to the point,
like a sub ready, get in here, I'm missing work
and all that. The agent a lot of times is
like the one that's the supposed to be the responsible
one of it, but it's also driving the price up
here is as no, no, no, let's you know, let's
let's do the right thing. Let's keep this thing going.
Let's don't cave all that all that stuff. So I
think that's what's happened in those first two cases, and
(28:36):
I believe that's what's happening also with Michael two. The
agent's doing his job like it or not, I mean,
and that's that's kind of what's happened here. So I
think that from what I hear that's that's partly what's
what's happening. I think there were some reports that the
deal was close, and from my understanding, i've heard that
(28:56):
it was. I don't know if it is right now.
So that's part of negotiations. I mean, it's back and
forth and up and down, and we'll figure it out.
Cowboys aren't really that concerned. They'll they'll, you know, they'll
put the franchise tag on Mike if they need to,
and I can let them go. So they'll put the
tag on them and we'll see, you know, in my
And some of this is on Micah too, because Michaeh
talks a lot. When you talk a lot, you say
(29:19):
things and people don't forget it. And when when you say, oh,
I want to you know, I don't need this month,
this amount or this or I don't want to get
the deal done and all that, and then it doesn't happen.
Then it comes back to you and said, what's what's
the deal. So anyways, I think the Cowboys would like
to get it done. Obviously, I think Micah does as well.
But it's got to work for everyone, and that's why
(29:39):
it's taken the time that it's taken Ali and Florida's next. Ali.
What's up?
Speaker 4 (29:45):
Good morning, sir, Good morning.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
How are you pretty good?
Speaker 4 (29:48):
Buddy? How about you good?
Speaker 13 (29:50):
Okay, So coupling draft, see almost a month away and
everybody has a mock draft. I totally agree with you.
Offensive line is the must. But I heard I was
in the group that one of the persons connected to
(30:12):
front office and this guy is legit. I can give
you his name off the off the line, but according
to him, he says, Cowboys gonna do everything possible to
draft gently, gently because they view him as Emmetta Smith.
(30:38):
I'm gonna take your opinion and get off the line.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
Thank you, buddy.
Speaker 3 (30:43):
Okay, I think from a prospect standpoint, yeah, I could.
I could see a lot of the Emmett Smith's stuff there.
He's more of a home run hitter than Emmitt h
or at least that's what it appears, because you know,
even even when emmittt was playing in in the late eighties,
(31:06):
the SEC was still you know, really good good football,
and he was playing against that competition astroon genty playing
in the in the Mountain West. You know, you break
a few more, you know, big runs. But but I
still think he's got that speed to do that, a
little bit more of a home run hitter than But
but as far as just how kind of compact they
(31:28):
are and how they don't really get hit a lot,
just kind of the way that they're able to to
maneuver their their body and and and get those runs.
And you know, a four yard run can turn into
an eight yard run, and and and a in a
zero yard gain can be a three yard run. Uh.
It's that type of shiftiness that that makes them so
(31:51):
clever in the way that they could run and pick
up extra yards.
Speaker 4 (31:54):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (31:54):
Obviously that's the key to everything. You know, you guys
know that second nine you get a draw and it
looks like your stuff and not next thing, you know,
you kind of slip through and get five yards there,
and it's third and four. It changes everything changes, the
personnel changes what you want to do. It might change
if it's four down territory. So those extra yards and
I'm not telling you guys nothing you don't already know,
(32:15):
but those type of runners, that's what made Emmett so
good because he on second down, he could get a
run that would put him in third and one and
third and two and with Stebnowski and Nate two and
a and Eric Williams and Daryl Johnston and EMMITTT. Smith,
like you're getting it, third and one, third and two
(32:36):
you you're gonna get it. So that's the type of
runner that I think Ashton genty can be. And then
you put in a fact that he can go sixty
seventy yards. That's pretty impressive there as well. All right,
let's go to break here real quick on Cowboys sort.
I know you have a couple of callers on the line.
Let me get we get a break, and then we'll
be right back after this.

Tamarra in Iowa is next, Tamra. What's up?
Speaker 9 (35:05):
Hi?
Speaker 17 (35:07):
Hey? You? So I do have something to say. So
I'm trying to get my eis on hold for a
really long time sometime to get it back to together here.
So you said something earlier, Yes, yes, I know. I'm
(35:29):
trying to think about it. Oh okay, So okay. A
couple of things. So so, so I'm gonna lead with
something different. I usually leave with serious and then I
go with uh. I leave with serious, and then I
go with fun. I'm gonna leave with fun.
Speaker 9 (35:44):
Uh.
Speaker 17 (35:44):
So way back when used to say who our favorite
player is Tony Tony Romo, so I so I would
me and my husband we had the hall pass on
friends and I said, if I ever get with anybody
that I've never ever got to meet ever in the world,
(36:04):
it's going to be Tony Romo. And that is and
so he was a really good player. And here's the
other thing. Then, I don't know if this is real
or not real, and I'd like you to try to
confirm it if you can. And that's my second thing
about Romo. So he went to Denver, had the worst
game of his life, broke his He broke a whole
(36:27):
bunch of bones out of his body. And they said,
though later on, somebody said that they broke down on
the road and Tony Romo came over and like fixed
their flat tire. And I don't know if that really
happened or didn't happen. I'd like you to confirm that.
And then the other thing that I'd like to say
(36:49):
that's not so fun, like I usually le was not
fun and end fun, going opposite. So I'd like to
know what you think about what we've done in the
off season. And I don't really I don't pay that
much attention, like I listen. I mean I do, Okay,
if I'm lying, I pay a lot of attention. But
also I don't know these guys, and I don't know
(37:11):
how good they are the draft players they get. I
don't know. But i'd like to hear what you say
when I listen to all the other podcasts as well,
by the way, so it's not just you. You're my
favorite for sure, but I listen to everybody else too,
and I yeah, and I am paying a lot more.
(37:32):
I know, I seem like I don't because I like
to kind of play it off like I'm like, I'm
just out here being a crazy girl, and I am
a crazy girl. But also I pay a lot of it.
Like I think you probably know I pay a lot
more attention than I maybe seem like I do.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
Well, yeah, if you're calling this show, I think people
pay attention. I think you're I think the people that
call the show and interact with it, they know what's
going on, and they want to be as much as.
Speaker 18 (38:02):
Well.
Speaker 17 (38:02):
And I love Rob, Rob, I know, you get mad,
and so that's what I worry about because a lot
of times whatever Rob says is what I agree. And
I'm like, oh, Nick, Rob that much.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
I love Rob, I love I love.
Speaker 17 (38:18):
I love him.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
All right, all right, sounds good, all right, Damn, have
a good thanks for the call, have a great day.
And she loves Rob, so for sure I did too.
He's he makes the show what it is and one
of the people that that makes. But also he brings,
you know, brings the heat and that's that's good. Sometimes
it gets cold and then he got to bring the
(38:42):
heat and uh, and he does that and he does
a good job. Not today, haven't heard from him today,
but no, he But that's for the Romo on the side.
I don't know Romo's history of that of fixing flat
tires and helping people and all that. I'll say this,
(39:05):
I do another story that I do know of his.
They we had a receiver here named Kevin Ogletree who
just for some reason decided for two years not to
get his license renewed and just didn't think that he
needed to do it, and then he got pulled over
and his license wasn't you know, has been like two years,
and so he gets arrested, he gets sent to jail,
(39:29):
and uh who goes and and uh and bails him
out Tony Romo. I mean, he needed him for practice,
he needed him, he needed him out there. So Tony
Romo is the one that actually went up to the
courthouse and got him, you know, bailed out and all
that stuff. I'm sure I don't know how much it was,
but you know it was Romo's. That story is true.
So I don't know about changing the flat tire and
all that stuff, but he did that. He also left
(39:53):
his girlfriend on the side of the road one time,
who I think when they broke up. But that's another story.
All right, Let's go to Robbie and Koco Beach, Florida.
Speaker 9 (40:00):
Robbie, been a minute.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
Nick, How you doing?
Speaker 17 (40:05):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (40:06):
Mostly good.
Speaker 10 (40:06):
We had a death in the family.
Speaker 19 (40:07):
That's I haven't been.
Speaker 10 (40:08):
On very much last week.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
I'm sorry to hear that.
Speaker 10 (40:14):
It was a little hard on my kids. It was
Grandpa and you know, I hope you don't know, but
you will someday. It was rough on the little ones,
for sure. And I appreciate you. Yeah, but we're here
to talk Cowboys man, for sure.
Speaker 9 (40:32):
For sure.
Speaker 10 (40:32):
Right, let's hear it.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
What do you get for us?
Speaker 10 (40:35):
I'm the half full glass. I'm the glass is always
half full. I'm the optimist always. I love my team.
I'm not gonna be mad and stop my feet and go.
I'm never watching another game like some of these people do.
I'm not that guy.
Speaker 9 (40:48):
I know what I like.
Speaker 10 (40:49):
I feel sorry for myself that I'm a Cowboys fan sometimes,
but I'm a fan. I'll always watch call in and
talkers my team. I feel like they have kind of
a blacked off man. I see some of the trades
they've done and some of the old villain of free agency.
But how are we supposed to compete with the Eagles
(41:11):
and these other top teams? Man, it just seems like
we're not doing enough. It frustrates me.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 10 (41:19):
I mean, we're gonna have to have a super draft
to be able to compete with them.
Speaker 9 (41:23):
Don't you think.
Speaker 3 (41:25):
Definitely need to have a super draft. I mean to
compete with with a lot of teams, any team. Yeah,
And I mean you it sucks when the Super Bowl
champion is in your division, and then the team they
beat to get there is also in your division and
they're getting better too, and they have a lot of
money to play with. So yeah, it's a it's a
that's a tough that's a tough situation. I mean, you
(41:46):
know that that they're in. But I think I just
think it's the fans don't necessarily understand. To me some
sometimes when it comes to the Southard Cap, I feel
fans are like kids and teenage of like they don't
know how much money their parents have. They just they
see their house in their car and they're like, we
got money, why can't we get this, this, this, and this,
(42:08):
when in reality they just don't have it. They don't
have it. And yes you can, you can move around
and all that. Just like you right now, you could
go buy a car if you wanted to, You could
buy another car. Do you want to? What's it gonna
take to get there? And do you need it to?
Speaker 4 (42:24):
Yeah, you can do.
Speaker 3 (42:26):
It, but that but in the long run, that's not
a good idea. So to say they could do this,
this and this, and the reality is is they they
don't necessarily want to do that because that A don't
think it's worth it and b it's gonna really mess
them up down the road even more so. You know,
I I like what they've done in free agency. I
(42:47):
think they've done almost as much as they can do.
I don't think that they're finished yet. I really don't.
I think there's gonna be some more, some more moves.
Speaker 10 (42:56):
And I'm not saying I hate the team, man, I
just know I wish they done a little maybe something different.
I mean, I like I like the oh my god,
the defensive end Falor. Glad that we got Valor back.
I think he's a good fit. I'm glad we re
signed ohso Diggie Zua. He's pretty dang awesome. I think
(43:17):
I hope they signed Mica and get that done so
we maybe have a little bit of money to play with.
Speaker 9 (43:22):
Yeah, okay, I wish a little more.
Speaker 3 (43:27):
Yeah, I get it. But you know, I I think
for for the guys that they've lost, the guys that
they've brought in, you know, I like that. I like
the runners that they brought in more than the runners
that they lost, you know, like Rico, but I like
Deonte Williams. I think it's a good back.
Speaker 4 (43:46):
Now.
Speaker 10 (43:47):
You said something great about about Rico. Last year you
said he's a great number two. I agreed with that
since you said it.
Speaker 3 (43:54):
Yeah, and I think they wanted to bring him back
in that role. But I don't, you know, I don't
think where do you go, Denver?
Speaker 4 (44:01):
No, I don't even know.
Speaker 3 (44:02):
I don't even know either Carolina Carolina.
Speaker 10 (44:05):
Carolina new Beam would know. He's so smart.
Speaker 3 (44:08):
He knows everything he does, he does, he knows everything.
I mean, that's not a joke. He knows everything, knows
a lot about a lot. So it's it's it's awesome.
Speaker 10 (44:17):
Yeah, all right, hey man, all right, hey have fun
at the baseball game.
Speaker 18 (44:21):
Appreciate it being told me all about it.
Speaker 10 (44:23):
You guys have a last man.
Speaker 3 (44:25):
Okay, thank you? Uh, I mean you just like throwing
all our stuff out there. No Thursdays, we do have
a work event at the at the Rangers Red Sox
opening Day. Say it's a work event, it'd be a
little retreat for us. That's probably why I'm sure they
need to throw that out there. Some of the shows,
all the shows except for one, will not be on tomorrow,
(44:47):
so we're making some schedule changes there. So see what happens.
Rangers in Red Sox Opening day, a lot of sports
activity happening. There is still March madness, and if your
team is still in it, you know, you chance to
cheer them on as well. All right, Michael in Boyling Green, Kentucky. Michael,
(45:07):
what's up?
Speaker 8 (45:09):
Well, the tar Hills went out in the first round,
So mine'st Yeah.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
I don't know. I mean, you know that they won,
they won a game, they showed that they belonged. Yeah,
I thought I thought, you know, I think it's it's
kind of funny they don't belong, they don't belong. Then
they win by forty you know.
Speaker 8 (45:25):
Oh, yeah, that's true. That's true. I didn't think they'd
make it, and then I saw they getting played in
game and did good. But yeah, you're a good point.
Speaker 3 (45:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (45:32):
Hey man, Uh the other day I was listening and
you were talking about your daughter's birthday. Yes, yeah, my
daughter's birthday was that day too. We were actually going
we were taking we were going to the Louisville Zoo
and I was like, well it though, all right, yeah,
same day. I'm just excited I got through. I mean
I didn't call five hundred times, but I called like
(45:55):
one hundred and fifty. I haven't been able to get through.
Uh I uh, I just want to say, you know
that I'm falling into the trap again. I see these
moves that they're making and and I've been listening to
some Dallas Cowboys mock drafts, and uh, I don't know,
I just like what I'm seeing. I figure Jerry Jones
(46:16):
was the executive of the years several I don't remember
how many years ago it was, but it wasn't a
long time ago.
Speaker 7 (46:22):
I don't.
Speaker 8 (46:23):
I don't think he's forgot how to do that. So
and all the money he's made in his businesses, so
I mean, I think he still knows what he's doing.
I mean, we might not all like it, but I'm
I'm there, I'm I'm I'm starting to fall in again.
Speaker 3 (46:40):
It's this, it's the circle, and that's what happens. It's
this vicious cycle that just happens. And you're just like, no,
I hate football, I hate everyone, I don't want to
watch sports again. And then the next thing, you know,
you're just like, in the sixth round, we can get this,
this and this, and yeah, you're in. That's what happens.
I'm the same way.
Speaker 7 (46:59):
I love.
Speaker 3 (46:59):
That's what sport is it sucks as weekend Sports is
the vacuum cleaner, right, just sucks for me in all
the time.
Speaker 6 (47:06):
Hey, one quick question.
Speaker 8 (47:07):
I'll let you go so you can get some more callers.
Have you done the All Storyline Team?
Speaker 4 (47:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (47:12):
Yeah, no, we did it last week. It was great.
I don't think you made it, but it was great. Kidding.
We have not done it yet. We have not done it, but.
Speaker 20 (47:19):
I think I thought.
Speaker 8 (47:21):
I mean, I've listened to all of them that I
was pretty.
Speaker 3 (47:24):
We're there, We're getting there. I had the piece of
paper on Friday. I was giving it to Chris and
he looked at it and he was like, no, no, no,
out out, get him off there, get her out of there.
I'm just kidding. We had a good we had a
good little discussion about that. We're getting close. I just
got to add another show. I want to add a
second show for the week. Uh, just just to do that.
(47:47):
So I'm trying to figure out the best timing for
all that. We'll see, we'll see when when when that
goes in, but maybe maybe in a couple of weeks.
But yep, you should have a spot somewhere on it.
Speaker 13 (48:00):
By right man.
Speaker 8 (48:01):
Hey, Yeah, y'all have a good one. I'm glad you've
got so many callers that it takes one hundred and
fifty or even five hundred calls to get through. Love
the show, Number one Show Home Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (48:12):
To me, I appreciate it.
Speaker 8 (48:14):
Thank you so much, thank you.
Speaker 3 (48:17):
Thank you. I mean the patience. I mean, if I
call something three times in a row and if it's
busy and all that I come, it's just not in
the cards. So the fact that you guys do that,
like that's that's something that I don't know if I
could do. And I appreciate that, Like that's what makes
the show. So I love the fact that we do that.
And so I say that to all the people that
(48:39):
are calling right now or that called early, you know
you might have to. If you're calling and calling and
calling and you can't get through, then you're not listening
to the show. So if you go back and you
listen later, I appreciate that. If if you've called in
today and you didn't make it, this is for you.
I really appreciate that that dedication and that the fact
that you want to be a part of it, that
means everything to us. So thank you so much. Let's
(49:02):
go to Lewis and Langston, Oklahoma. Lewis, what's up, man,
It's been a little bit.
Speaker 21 (49:07):
Not much, man, just you know, sitting at work listening
to the show. Most of the time. I can't, like
you said, I can't get in.
Speaker 3 (49:13):
I usually just let don't get in trouble. Just don't
get don't get in trouble. But you know, but got
those headphones on.
Speaker 18 (49:21):
He man, you know, just trying to make it.
Speaker 21 (49:24):
You know, Thank god, it's almost summertime spring. I guess
if you want to call it, because I was getting
tired of wearing a thousand clothes and being I felt
like a dagon bear in the cold every other day.
So I'm okay with the I'm okay with the sun
coming out now.
Speaker 9 (49:40):
Man.
Speaker 21 (49:40):
I just was calling, man because I hadn't. I've been
kind of watching the free agency and the coaching stuff.
And last of my called, I was appreciative, appreciative of
the coaching staff that they put together.
Speaker 18 (49:50):
This time, I'm.
Speaker 21 (49:51):
Appreciative of the uh free agency.
Speaker 9 (49:54):
Guiden.
Speaker 21 (49:55):
Now, I'm like most people, I want them to get
like this big name free agent and stuff like that.
But like you said, like to be honest, technically, I
guess Olsu would be their big name free agent that
they fought back, So I'm cool with that. I hate
that we lost Jordan Lewis, but I mean, if they're
not willing to pay that kind of money, we just
gonna have to find somebody to fill the road. But
(50:15):
I mean, there's only one Jeordan Lewis's so hey, it
is what it is.
Speaker 20 (50:20):
That's part of the game.
Speaker 21 (50:22):
But if I had to throw my hat in the wing,
and I really would like them to bring in another receiver,
I mean, somebody. I mean, like I think Lockett's out there.
I was hoping they bring in Digs, but apparently we
wasn't in the market for that neither, because between the
ACL tear and the money he got from the Patriots,
I don't think we were even close to.
Speaker 18 (50:42):
Being in that market.
Speaker 21 (50:44):
And so, like I said, I hope they will bring
in a big name receiver or at least a veteran
receiver that would help out and then you know, draft
you a receiver, maybe another old lineman or so I
would be okay if they bring in another old lineman,
and you know you can you can never get too
many defensive line and bring in as many as you
(51:06):
can at this point because if we got to stop
the run, like they say, just bringing me until you
find one to see it. Yeah, and I'll be okay
with that, but I ain't can hold you too long.
And you know, I don't want to say I always
want everybody else to get in. So I'll talk to
you when I talk to you.
Speaker 3 (51:21):
Thank you so much. Leuis appreciate that.
Speaker 4 (51:23):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (51:24):
Yeah, I mean I could see I could see some
other positions that you know, you'd like to show up
even more, like like slot corner, backup quarterback, maybe another
pass rusher or or defensive tackle, maybe a big defensive
tackle one technique. I don't I mean, they're not sitting
out there on trees, so I understand that, but you know,
(51:47):
I still think that that there's there's moves that could
be made. Uh And a lot of times you get
to the point now where I mean we're still a
month away, so we're not at that point. Yeah, there's
still some things that can happen, but you probably two
weeks away from the draft, then you really don't want
to do anything. A lot of teams were slows down
(52:07):
because why why wait till after the draft at that point,
So then it'll it'll pick back up again a little
bit of like, all right, now what do we need
after free after the draft and rookie free agents? Now,
what what do we need for our team? And so
I think you still got another two weeks or so
until that that period. Then it slows down draft After
(52:29):
that you might see some more that happens here. All right,
let's go to Robin Vegas. Rob, what's up man?
Speaker 7 (52:35):
Hey?
Speaker 8 (52:35):
Nick?
Speaker 19 (52:35):
How's everything good?
Speaker 3 (52:37):
You had some fans on the show, other callers talking
about you, saying how much that they love you and uh,
and I said, all right, well, we haven't heard from
them yet. And then what do you know, Boom?
Speaker 19 (52:47):
I love I love with my ex girlfriend Cloveland. It's
it's awesome that we Wow. I appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (52:53):
I don't know, are we are? Is this the thing?
I don't know if we want to go down this road.
Speaker 19 (52:58):
But honestly, I don't think I've never been to that
part of the country, so it's probably impossible.
Speaker 3 (53:04):
Probably impossible, you never know. Let's leave it at.
Speaker 4 (53:08):
That, right, what right?
Speaker 3 (53:09):
What do we what do we got?
Speaker 19 (53:12):
So you know we're talking about the free agency. I
was going to ask you, what if what grade. Would
you give.
Speaker 4 (53:18):
Them M.
Speaker 3 (53:24):
Overall just overall great a free agency offseason, I'd say
a B B minus would kinda be minus.
Speaker 19 (53:36):
You're generous. Yeah, I have them matter C minus and
it's because they brought in a lot of guys, but
they I don't think they brought in enough players.
Speaker 4 (53:47):
You know.
Speaker 19 (53:48):
I like Dante Fowler and I like the two linebackers,
but they didn't address number two wide receiver spot, which
I think. I think they have to be the dress
that before the draft and cornerbacks. Give me one of them.
I would love for them to go sign Keenan Allen.
(54:08):
Every time I watch this guy play, I don't even
know how old he is, but he still makes plays.
He's still really good, and he is a big body
guy that we don't have. And I just think, you know,
we wide receiver is one of those positions that when
you draft, for some reason, they struggle a lot of times. Yeah,
(54:31):
So I think they have to dress cornerback or white
or the second wide receiver spot before the draft to
have any chance of Like the other caller said, to
compete against Philadelphia because seven we got what how many
draft picks we're going to have this year? I don't know,
(54:53):
lucky you get three starters. If you get three starters,
that's like amazing, And I want him to draft best available.
It's worked out really good for them, you know, CD Micah,
and honestly, you can't mess it up. There's not one
guy that they could draft who's the best player that
(55:14):
can't come onto this team and start and make it
better because they have so many holes. I totally agree
with the outfitsive line. But I don't think they will
draft a left tackle because I don't think they'll admit
that they maybe made a mistake on guiding yet and
maybe they haven't, who knows, but that is the position
(55:37):
that worries me, you know. But I just think I
don't see them putting him on the shelf. I think
they're going to ride it out with him and you know,
see what happens, and just hopefully he hits the gym.
But right now, I and then the micro thing, the
reason why they're in no hurry to sign Michael for
whatever reason, they don't mind overpaying. They've proven that. And
(56:01):
if they were to sign mic and let's say tomorrow,
I think they say like ten to fifty million dollars,
But what's the point if they're not going to spend it.
I think right now they got over forty million available,
closer to fifty and they're going to carry over a
bunch of money the next year. That's what they like
to do. So I think they say themselves that we'll
get Michael done. They'll probably get them done in the
(56:22):
summer like they always do in training camp.
Speaker 3 (56:25):
Just so you know, Rob that whatever you're seeing about
money available, I would it's always about twenty five million,
is what this with the Cowboys and what most teams
take that they need to actually run the season with injury,
you know, with the with the you know, ir with
the practice squad and elevations, stuff like that. You need
(56:49):
about twenty two to twenty five million for that. So
just just know that going in that's part of I
know they carry over, but no, I think that's not
carrying over. That's stuff that you have to you know,
you have to spend draft picks and stuff like that.
That's money you have to have in your on your
you know, bank account there. You have to have that
twenty five million so you can you know, run through
(57:09):
the season. So you know, these websites might tell you
it's fifty million, but they have and still that means
they have money to do other things. You're right, you
are right. I'm just saying it's not fifty it's still
twenty five, that you can still do things. Though you
can still do things, So I'm not I'm.
Speaker 18 (57:24):
Not just saying they have to.
Speaker 19 (57:25):
They have to.
Speaker 18 (57:26):
They have to said, I don't think there are We're.
Speaker 19 (57:29):
Not close to Philadelphia. Even though Philadelphia lost a couple
of defensive players. They drafted so good the prior years
that it's just the young kid. They looked at the
young kids, They're like, oh, young guys are just as good,
and we don't pay them. I would like for them
to get Mike and done as soon as possible, and
(57:49):
then I like them to go get Tyler Smith's done.
Speaker 4 (57:53):
Yeah, you know, those.
Speaker 19 (57:54):
Are the two guys. The rest you know, you got time,
but those are the two guys, especially Micah. Now I'm
sure they're saying to himselves, but we really want a
forty one forty and I don't think it's gonna take four.
I think it's gonna take thirty seven, thirty eight. And
I disagree with the aged guess the agents are gunning
(58:14):
for the most money. But if the player gets if
Michael gets presented a deal and he likes it, he'll
he has the power to say I'm taking it. Yes,
agent is always gonna It's like in a you know,
a realtor. They could say, you know, we could get more,
we could get more. But if the owner's own the
(58:35):
house is none, no, no, I'm not waiting around. I'm
gonna take it. So it's I think Michael would be
willing to take. Out of all the players everybody talked about.
Dak definitely not see the he took. He got what
he was supposed to get, so I don't he was perfect.
Thirty five was the top guy got what thirty four
We figured that Mike, I honestly don't think is asking
(58:55):
for forty two. I really don't. I think he's gonna.
I think he'll take thirty five at thirty eight.
Speaker 3 (59:01):
But we'll see, we'll see. I mean, I thought it
was close, and now I don't know if it's if
it's that close, but then again, you can get close
like that, like you said, if you want to get
to a number in mind, you can just do it
and then, just like with the Daxi thing, you can
get to where it needs to be. The probably the
offers were on the table, whether or not they want
to do it or not. So all right, Rob, good
(59:24):
to hear from you, appreciate it. We'll talk to you later. Uh,
all right, let's go to break. Let's go to break
here on Cowboy storyline, come back, got a few more
calls to answer, and be right back.

Speaker 14 (01:00:07):
There is no eye in Dallas. There is no eye
in heart, either no eye in blue star or a
lone star for that matter. And there's no eye in
how about them cowboys smear enough knows there's no eye
in football. Football is a wee thing and experience that
is best enjoyed together with good drinks and good folks
home or away. We rally together, we cry together, and
(01:00:28):
we always rally cry together because there's definitely no eye
in Cowboys. Fans smear enough we do game days. Please
drink responsibly.
Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
It's the Cowboys storyline.
Speaker 3 (01:00:45):
All right, Welcome back to Cowboys storyline. We're talking about
it here in the break that I think it was
Robin the last call that said, I don't really know
how many picks we had, not in either, but it
looks like right now the Cowboys are sitting with ten
draft picks. They did get the four comp picks, so
they've already traded one of those away, but they they
(01:01:06):
do have ten right now. They have a pick in
the first, second and third, no pick in the fourth,
three picks in the fifth, two in the sixth, two
in the seventh. So that's Saturday as it stands right now,
that's going to be a pretty busy day. Even without
a fourth round pick. Currently, you're still looking at seven
(01:01:27):
draft picks there. So uh, but you know, we'll see,
we'll see what happens. I think the Cowboys will probably
I know they will move around and do some things,
and who knows, they may even make some trades before
we even get to the draft. And so that's where
it stands right now. Ten draft picks. We'll see what
it looks like. All right, let's go to Lester in Minnesota. Lester,
(01:01:47):
what's up? Well, what's it gonna take for them to
get good?
Speaker 9 (01:01:55):
A good offensive? A good it's a very good offensive
and defensive life at the same time.
Speaker 3 (01:02:01):
All right, I love it. I haven't heard it today.
I love that other people refer to it. So it's great.
Speaker 4 (01:02:10):
What he got?
Speaker 3 (01:02:10):
Man, what do you got for us?
Speaker 20 (01:02:13):
I give the grade on our what we're so far
done on the free agent market as C I think
we should go get Keenan Island. And if the Sante
Samuel is still out there, I think we should go
get him. And then, of course I gave you what
I thought the offensive line should be. I think last week,
(01:02:36):
I think we could be okay with that starting the seasons.
I mean, of course I want more, but I think
we could be okay with that, and then I would
work on the defensive line first. Unless someone falls good
offensive line falls to a pick where we don't expect it,
(01:02:58):
like Cede Lamb did, of course take.
Speaker 9 (01:02:59):
Them, but right, that's what I would do, okay.
Speaker 3 (01:03:03):
Yea, yeah, I mean I I I like the I
like the offensive line. I think offensive line is probably
what's needed the most. But I you know, if there's
defensive line, I'm fine with that. If it's a pass rusher,
I mean I said this earlier in the show. I
mean I would be fine with that too. I see,
(01:03:27):
like I said, I heard. I was listening to the
to the talk radio this morning. We're kind of talking
about certain draft trade scenarios and maybe the Cowboys would
move to twenty in a trade with I think the
thing that was Denver. I don't know if I love that.
You know, I like sixteen, seventeen, twenty. You know, you're
(01:03:50):
you're picking up another you know, second round pick, probably
like late second which which that's intriguing as well, but
you're still you're picking late in the second round. I
don't know if I love that as much as you know,
from twelve to twenty you're definitely dropping. So I don't
know how far. I'll ask you, Lester, how far would
you want to trade back, like in the first round,
(01:04:13):
what would be ideal, what would be too far?
Speaker 9 (01:04:17):
I do we're at twelve, right, No, no, no less
than go down no further than sixteen and pick up
that fourth round pick we loss, or or like you said,
if we can get a third or a second or whatever,
let's pick up that fourth round pick though, let's let's
try to get that if we could. Yeah, yeah, let's
(01:04:37):
get it back.
Speaker 3 (01:04:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 20 (01:04:42):
The reason I said keenan Allen because I know he's
hurt a lot.
Speaker 9 (01:04:46):
But he's a he's a really he's a veteran. He's
a really good number two. You those you know the
routes and everything, think that. I think we got so
many holes. That's where I I usually don't fiddle around
with receivers and stuff like that, but we got so
many holes. I'm just in my mind trying to fill them. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:05:09):
Yeah, I mean the receiver thing is interesting because if
if you're bringing in an older guy that that you know,
he's obviously not gonna play special teams. So now you're
looking at you you got Tolbert in there as well,
then you're gonna draft the guy. Maybe, I wonder, I
don't think it can be a Tyler Lockett maybe, I
(01:05:32):
mean Keen Allen.
Speaker 4 (01:05:33):
Maybe.
Speaker 3 (01:05:33):
But I just don't know if it can be somebody
that that is just like your third receiver, fourth receiver,
just because you know you you need a guy that
that can be a number two. And I think Tolbert's
really a three. That's what I would think, so and
I think Keenan Allen could be that guy. But uh,
(01:05:54):
but we'll see. I don't know. I think I think
they're gonna get creative here. I'm just I'm just gonna
leave it at that thing.
Speaker 4 (01:06:02):
They'll get creative, all right.
Speaker 9 (01:06:04):
Well, we like to do the one and two year deals.
I mean you can put Keenan Allen definitely on the
one or two year deal. I mean yeah, again, I
don't know about all that stuff, but I know they
like to do one and two year deals. Yeah, and
then like you said, maybe draft someone and developed that
person or whatever. Right, I'm just looking to fill a hole.
This is so we can compete with these people. And
(01:06:28):
I have to visit.
Speaker 3 (01:06:29):
I get it. No, I get it. I understand you.
I want to compete. That it's not you know, next year,
two years from now. You want to compete this year.
And and we've seen it happen. I mean, we we've
seen things turn around. Thanks for the call, Lester appreciate
that he's already had his tagline in there. We know,
we know what it takes in his mind how to
get things better and and what's it gonna take. So
(01:06:49):
you know, I just feel like things things can happen
in one season. We've seen turnarounds. You know, we've seen
it happen. We saw we saw it with Look at Washington.
I mean, you know, new a new coach, new vibe,
new staff, that can go a lot.
Speaker 4 (01:07:06):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (01:07:06):
It can't carry you all the way. You got to
have good players. There's no doubt about it. This team
has good players. They've got to get a little luckier
than than they they have as far as injury wise,
and so that you know, gotta gotta hope that it's
not going to be like it was last year. I mean,
you're gonna have injuries. But last year, just player after
(01:07:27):
player after player, a great player at that just just
wipe them out. So you know, you can't it's hard
to compete. I mean you can you can argue that
when you look at all the injuries and look at
what happened. I mean seven and ten was just amazing
just to get there, but I think that they'll they'll
be better overall in a lot of areas you can
stay somewhat healthy, also have a little bit more depth.
(01:07:51):
And that's what they're working on now. That's that's what
that's what free agency is about, getting some of those
guys in the back end that when you do have
an injury on your frontline players that you can you
can going there and and and you know withstand that.
Let's go to Ronnie in New Jersey by good morning, Nick,
what's up?
Speaker 18 (01:08:10):
I was just listening and listening to the grades you
guys were giving for the free agency. I can't believe
Rob gave gave them a C plus or or you
giving them a B. I don't think on free agency
it was no better than a D plus. D uh
(01:08:32):
A deep, A D plus D plus. I don't see
how you can give them a better grade.
Speaker 3 (01:08:38):
Than that D is in Dallas or B.
Speaker 18 (01:08:41):
Yeah, d ds in Dallas, D plus.
Speaker 4 (01:08:43):
I don't.
Speaker 18 (01:08:44):
I don't see how you can get even into a
C considering that the guys they picked up, they're hoping.
We're doing that.
Speaker 3 (01:08:53):
Everybody's hoping, I mean everybody, you're hoping on everybody. The
first pick in the draft, you're hoping cam Ward, You're
hoping cam Woard is good. You're hoping. I mean it's
all hope, isn't it? And it all hope? I mean yeah,
I mean it's not like, so, who would get an A?
Who would get an A? In free agency? What team
is getting an A?
Speaker 18 (01:09:14):
I honestly, I'm not looking into what other teams would
I don't either.
Speaker 3 (01:09:19):
Yeah, you're right. My answer to that would be they're
all hoping as well. So, but d what what would
have been.
Speaker 18 (01:09:26):
If they would have gotten at least three starters?
Speaker 4 (01:09:29):
I mean, I know we got.
Speaker 18 (01:09:32):
The defensive tackle, we.
Speaker 3 (01:09:33):
Got Solomon Thomas.
Speaker 4 (01:09:38):
No, we got our guy back.
Speaker 18 (01:09:41):
We got our guy back, and there's one Thomas. We
gotta mess it back up. So everybody everybody else, I
don't see. I don't see what starter we we picked
up that's gonna make a difference in the team. As
you know, free agency from from the guys they traded for.
The guys they traded for weren't even start orders. We
weren't even being that aside from the linebacker, one of
(01:10:03):
the linebackers, it wasn't even that they weren't that productive.
In the other teams where they were at. So I
don't see that, as you know, an upgrade and in
any in any of the guys that we picked up.
I ain't see an upgrade in any of those players.
I mean aside from the aside from the Solomon Thomas
as a as a backup, so that that might be
(01:10:23):
the only one. But aside from that, like and you
got to, like you said, we're hoping, we're like, we're
predicting that these guys were going to hit on every
every pick. How many uh picks you have to hit
on this year in order for this team to be competitive,
because you're gonna have to hit like a four or
five guys.
Speaker 3 (01:10:41):
One you gotta have got it. You got to definitely
get one in the first round, first round.
Speaker 18 (01:10:47):
You better leave the first round.
Speaker 3 (01:10:49):
Yeah, that's the one. That's the one that you have
to hit. And and we and we've seen it before,
twenty twenty one is not that great of a draft.
But Michael was great. You know, Michael was great.
Speaker 18 (01:11:02):
They hit on that on a good team, on a
good defense. He became that that flash and that defense that.
Speaker 3 (01:11:08):
That wasn't a good team. I mean, that was the
six and ten football team. So that wasn't a good
team before that. So all what I'm saying is they
got to hit one. But you know, Ronnie, like we
can just agree to disagree. I mean, like I think
that they they brought in more players than you think.
I mean, like you want I think that's the narrative
you want to say, Oh, well, Kenneth Murray wasn't a
good player. I mean he was. I mean he led,
(01:11:30):
He led two different teams in tackles, so he was productive.
Not saying he's the best, but I mean he was productive.
That's why they traded for.
Speaker 18 (01:11:37):
Yeah, yeah, the linebacker. The linebacker was production.
Speaker 3 (01:11:41):
Samborne was a productive, solid player for the Bears. Solid
and eber Fluce knows them, knows how to use them
and all that. But I mean you ask people, and
I know people. We got people here in the building
that are that follow the Bears, and they're like, good,
solid player, not not great, but you know the moon Clark.
What's the monk Clark doing? I mean you got to
get better than that. I mean, I mean.
Speaker 18 (01:12:02):
Where we we We've had a weakness in our in
stopping the run for the last yeah, the last decade basically,
And and I just haven't seen anything, any commitment to
to to the number one priority where it should have been,
how do we stop the other team from running the
ball down our throats? Because that's what happens every single game,
(01:12:23):
every single year.
Speaker 4 (01:12:24):
Like that's what I'm kind.
Speaker 18 (01:12:25):
Of tired of seeing. I'm tired of seeing us getting
beaten by by just any team whenever they decide, you
know what, let's just run the ball and that's it.
And you know what I'm saying, like what Mafi, No,
I don't have I have no hope on Mafi. I'm sorry,
I don't. I don't know anything about the guy. All
I seen from the guy, he's not productive run on
the field. So that's what I'm saying, Like, you're gonna
(01:12:48):
have to hit at least on three. You're putting too
much on the draft, You're putting too much on on
everybody on the draft personnel to like hit. You're gonna
you're gonna have to hit at least three starters from
this draft in order to be competitive, and not only
in our division, but look at our conference. Our conference
is is going to be really good. It's going to
be hard to make the playoffs. So my thing is
(01:13:11):
from here. It's maybe in two more years if that's
the route that we're going. When I say, uh, the voute,
we're going by getting draft picks. But all right, I'm
just going to see you go with the.
Speaker 3 (01:13:22):
Flow, all right, sounds sounds good running all right? Uh yeah.
You know, teachers are different, professors are different, they grade differently, so,
you know, and sometimes the great off of expectations as well.
I mean, what you kind of expect to happen, and
and you know, for me, a little bit surprised, pleasantly
(01:13:43):
surprised with some of the moves they made. Again, I
don't think they're done, so we'll see, we'll see what happens.
Let's go one more call before we have to end
it here. Let's go to Rebecca in Minnesota. Rebecca, what's
up Hi there?
Speaker 23 (01:13:56):
Take my call?
Speaker 20 (01:13:57):
Good.
Speaker 21 (01:13:57):
I have two thoughts.
Speaker 23 (01:13:59):
One is kind of feel the general consensus is that
they've done a little bit more than they have in
the past and free agency, but they really haven't done
a lot, and I agree with that. That being said,
I don't really know what to take going forward. So
I asked, going in the next year, would you feel
better about the offense being more shirt up, quote unquote,
(01:14:20):
or the defense being more shirt up quote unquote. And
another thought in the back of my head is, I
know this is a very popular opinion, but I would
very much be on board with entertaining training Mica, And
I know it's probably not a possibility, but maybe could
you entertain me and just say, what would it take
for a team or for us to maybe agree with
(01:14:43):
a trait and what can we potentially get for like
picks and just for it or you know, just it'd
be kind of fun to think about what we could
potentially all of sudden get for the draft, you know
how different in drastic That would just change the thinking
the next month coming into the draft, though, I believe
that that to what you have to say and have
a good one.
Speaker 3 (01:15:01):
Thank you, offense or defense? Which one is going to
be short up the most. That's a good one because
you've got you've got some holes a defense with with
injuries some injuries there. When you think about, you know
what's going to happen with Diggs over shown you're replacing
(01:15:22):
you know, DeMarcus Lawrence on another key piece in defensive line.
And then when you look at offense, still got to
figure out the left tackle and you're losing your starting
running back. But I feel like offense is probably going
to be have a chance to be short up the most,
just because I just look at the coaching staff, the
(01:15:44):
resources there. The head coach is an offensive guy. You
don't you know, you're still have two of your top
players or quarterback receiver. I think the running back will
be good. That position will be one way or another.
I think I think we're going to run the ball better,
which I think will make everyone better. I think the offense,
if I had to answer that question, and then about
trading Micah, I don't think they're going to trade Micah,
(01:16:08):
mainly because what they would ask for would probably be
something that just teams wouldn't want to do. But I
think for me, it would be three number ones. So
that's where I would that would be tough to turn
down three number ones. Two number ones and I don't
I don't know about that one and less and unless
one of them is up there really high. But the
(01:16:30):
problem there is it's got to be very high because
you're going to need a pass rusher. Now now you
have a huge need, so you're creating a need. So
if it's two number ones. I mean, it's got to
be the second overall pick, so you can get another
pin state number eleven wearing pass rusher. They're in a
(01:16:50):
dual carter. I mean, that's what you'd have to do.
So at that point you're just kind of hitting the
reset button and moving moving forward, you know, you know,
kind of starting over over again there. And I get it,
but I just don't think that's the route that Cowboys
are gonna go. I really don't. I think they're gonna
keep They're gonna keep Mige, they're gonna sign, and they're
gonna figure it out. But interesting, oh, we gotta have
(01:17:11):
one more caller, Sorry, Troy and Ambarillo didn't see it.
Real quick, Troy, what's.
Speaker 5 (01:17:15):
Up in That's okay?
Speaker 24 (01:17:17):
Two real quick things, Dick Man, I tell you it's
not a sneaky need. I think cornerback corner is a
huge need. You know they're coming back.
Speaker 6 (01:17:26):
That's gonna be a huge ted.
Speaker 24 (01:17:27):
And I have reservations, man, about signing my code.
Speaker 4 (01:17:30):
I really do.
Speaker 24 (01:17:31):
Through a long term contract. I think it's a great challenge.
But I think then you know when he disappears in
the second half, you know, and uh, you know when
he gets double team and stuff like that, and he
goes and pouting on the sidelines. I would have a
serious reservations, man, about the side of my franchise, you again,
you know, and if you can't figure out the team
or something to getting freed up.
Speaker 4 (01:17:48):
Man.
Speaker 24 (01:17:48):
But twelve and a half sacks when he should have
twenty four probably twenty five.
Speaker 7 (01:17:53):
I don't know.
Speaker 24 (01:17:53):
I've had the reservation. It's about that, That's all I got.
Speaker 3 (01:17:55):
Dick, Okay, appreciate that. I mean, I I don't know
about the should have twenty four to twenty five. I mean,
I don't I don't know about that. I mean's he
was hurt a little bit last year and missed some games,
came back played well, you know at the end of
the season, changed the defense. I mean that right there,
to me is why I think he's so valuable, just
(01:18:18):
because of what he was able to do when he
got back last year from injury. They led the whole
NFL in sacks as a team. I mean, everybody was better,
everybody got more pressure just because of him, and he
got sacks. The other guy's got sacks. You know, we're
talking about Carl Lawson's and Chauncey Goldston's and and those guys.
So I believe that, you know. I'm sorry, I'm getting
(01:18:39):
really distracted here. I'm seeing our man Isaiah standback, just
get like like body slammed here for some wrestling moves
on an NFL network. Hope he's okay. I hope we
don't need to have a replacement there on Talking Cowboys.
Looks like he's doing good. Check out Isaiah there, good
Morning Football, doing some stuff, some wrestling. I think he
could be a wrestler for sure. Sorry, Troy, I didn't
I didn't answer the question exactly. But but Corner, You're right,
(01:19:03):
not a sneaky need, it's a need. It's a need
because you don't know what Diggs is gonna do. You
still don't know exactly what deron Bland. I mean, he's
kind of hard to evaluate. He gives up some plays,
he makes some for you in record setting fashion. They
lost their slot corner, uh in Jordan Lewis. So it
did make a trade with with the guy from the Bills.
(01:19:25):
But but for the for the most part, though, it
is still an issue that that they need to fix it. Corner.
Maybe that's the pick at twelve maybe it's it's a
barren from Texas. Be okay with that too, you know,
I mean i'd be I'd be all right. I would
probably tell everyone what you're gonna do moving on at
some point with with with Diggs, and maybe he's not
(01:19:46):
the long term answer, but still, I mean that would
be I would be okay with twelve.
Speaker 7 (01:19:51):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:19:52):
Then, I know we had a story about the Texas
Pro Day. Uh, Tommy Yarsh went down there at Austin,
Uh wrote and he'll have an He had an article
on there about some prospects there and a lot of
guys from Texas could be that pick there at number twelve. Overall,
all right, great show, guys, appreciate you got fifteen callers.
Good stuff. As always, We will be back next Wednesday
to do it all over again. So for Chris being
(01:20:13):
Nick Eatman, See you next time on Cowboys Storyline.
Speaker 1 (01:20:16):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
