Speaker 1 (00:03):
The following.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
He's a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the
Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
This is Cowboys storyline presented by Gillette, the official shave
of the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Here's Nick Eatman. What's up? Welcome to the Cowboys storyline
presented by Jellett. It's Thursday, October twenty third. I'm Nick Eatman.
Chris doesn't think we can go with twelve calls today,
so we're gonna go to callers right now. We're gonna
see we can prove them wrong. Dylan, north Port, Florida.
(00:42):
Let's just get going on this thing. Dylan, what's up?
Speaker 4 (00:45):
Oh hey man, how's it going good?
Speaker 5 (00:46):
How are you?
Speaker 6 (00:48):
Dude?
Speaker 3 (00:48):
That was quick.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
I wasn't expecting that to be on so soon.
Speaker 7 (00:51):
Okay, cool.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
Just first off, big hand, I just want to say,
awesome job as the Cowboys front office dude, because you know,
a lot of people blame for a lot of things
and we don't hear that.
Speaker 7 (01:02):
Yeah, yeah, I know.
Speaker 8 (01:04):
That's well.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
I got to give him a round up, Applaus here
because first and foremost shot in Hummer, Shott and Timer Higher,
a lot of people had beef with the process and
I've always been on the mind, well, if you like
to hire, then to hell with the process. Got who
you wanted, and it's it seems to be working fine
right now, especially offensively. They got Jake Ferguson lost up.
He's the seventh highest paid tight end right now, so
(01:26):
that was a phenomenal choice to go ahead and get
him done early and pay him off of their expectation
and get him kind of low ball, honestly. I mean,
that deal looks great right now. They trade it obviously
a pick ins for a threat. It's a grand slam
to pick up for Jamont Williams, even the Mica thing.
Man they offer him next up money and he he
got greedy and leaves for the next man up on
the next, next, next man up, and so you know,
(01:47):
they walked away and they stuck to their guns, and
you know, if they can make I know there's a
lot of rumors about trade right now, but if they
can turn that Mica thing into somebody else, big name
guy that everybody's talking about, plus Kenny Clark, plus keeping
all their PI, I mean, that's out of this world
maneuvering at that point. So we'll see how that goes.
But that's all I wanted to say today, on this
Thursday night.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
I appreciate it, right a right, good stuff.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Thanks for the call. You know, you don't hear a
lot a lot of people talking about that front office stuff.
You know, great job, front office all that. I still
think it's I mean, you're pickings Javonte's that's just big time,
you know, editions. The Ferguson thing, like you said, Now,
you know what's interesting is I think he gets a
million dollars bonus. You know how you always say it's
(02:32):
like it's fifty million. It could be as much as
fifty three or whatever. You know, you don't even think
about it. Well, one of those one of those caveats
there for Ferguson's deal is if he gets eighty five catches,
he gets like a million dollars. So what's he like
a fifty five right now? I mean, so looks pretty good.
(02:52):
I mean, eighty five seemed like a big number there.
But as he's catching, you know the same thing about yards,
he might catch it. So looking good. I'll say this though,
I mean if not to be you know, the downer
of this or whatever, because it was a great call.
But I'll say this, if they don't make the playoffs
and the defense continues to be what it is and
(03:12):
you see Michaeh Parsons leading Green Bay to the playoffs
and he's got fifteen sacks or whatever, you're always going
to be like, you know, was that a good deal?
I mean, did they make a good move. Then they're
not stopping the run. So it's not like getting Kenny
Clark is helping them. They're not stopping the run either.
So time will tell on this. But you know, if
(03:33):
they missed the playoffs because they couldn't they couldn't get
off the field and their defense was a liability, and
then you see what Mike is doing, you're always going
to be able to say that. But again, the trade
was for two picks and we have to see down
the road just to kind of see. But still great call.
Appreciate the thought process there, because you're not wrong. The
(03:55):
front office has been really, really good with some of
these moves in the off season. With the big one, Mike,
that's always the one that we're going to be talking
about for this year. Daveon and Illinois next, Davion, what's up?
Speaker 9 (04:07):
What's up? Big guy was going on man doing good. Man.
Definitely been listening all we couldn't really get on because
of work and stuff going on. But excited to get
on this morning with you.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Yeah, for sure, for sure what you got question or
common or both?
Speaker 9 (04:25):
Well, you know me, I got always got to, always
got something in my head. I'm thinking that, uh this week, really,
this game really, I think it is one of the
ones that airmarked this for this year to kind of
see where we kind of be, where we're at, kind
of a where we at kind of game, but to
see where we can if we probably can possibly do something.
(04:46):
I think and you mentioned earlier this week when you
said that the last time we wanted Denver with the
with the ninety two seasons, I believe yes. And I'm thinking, like, man,
that's ninet two seasons, one of them good sea for
the Cowboys. So we can after we can actually go
gets repreat and go win the game, and I think
we can do something. I probably baking on the Mars
(05:09):
and my score prediction gonna be thirty eight thirty. I'm
always gonna pick of Aubrey Field going up somewhere somehow,
and since we and mile high, it might be the
boom one from like break the record, it'd be great.
But I wanted to also thank you for getting Woody on. Man.
That was that was a good conversation. That was a
(05:30):
I love with him.
Speaker 10 (05:30):
Man.
Speaker 9 (05:31):
It's one of my favorite players of all time. And
look forward to tracking on next week.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
All right, all right, Davion, thanks appreciate the call. Yeah,
I mean having Woody on was was awesome. Man, always
always good. Yeah, you mentioned Aubrey in the record. I
believe it's still sixty six, right, sixty. We've seen some
we've seen seventy in in a preseason game. Jacksonville's kicker
(05:59):
cam little did that. But you know it's it's gonna happen,
you know, and it and it very easily could happen
in in in Denver. I don't know about about this week,
but you know, it's it's just so it's so tough.
It's got to be right for the half. Gotta be
a perfect situation, you know, And and I think warm
(06:19):
ups will will tell. I'm very interested to watch the
pregame warm ups just to kind of see what Aubrey's
able to do. And and you know, because you always
get a you always get a good read on, you know,
kicking this way, this way, you know what. You know,
that's what the special teams coach has to figure out.
And so you get in the game, it's like, hey,
well you know where's he where's his range? You know,
(06:40):
for for this particular game. All right, let's go to
j R. In Avondale, Arizona.
Speaker 11 (06:46):
Good morning.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Everything's good. How are you?
Speaker 11 (06:50):
I'm great. Hey, not gonna Aubrey's not gonna break the
record this week because they're just gonna score touchdowns. So
we're going to just go up and down the field.
Speaker 12 (07:00):
Sounds good, So don't have to worry about that. I
had just a couple of clarifications. Now, the bye week
has nothing to do with the twenty one day window, right,
because I was in an argument on the online.
Speaker 11 (07:10):
With you guy yesterday. So that's just part of the
twenty one days, right, because they do practice.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Twenty one days is twenty one days, gotcha. I'm not
sure what you're asking, but but the bye week is
part of it. I mean it's twenty one days yesterday.
Speaker 13 (07:26):
Yeah, I just argue.
Speaker 11 (07:27):
I just argue in that point pretty hard, and I
started thinking, I hope I'm right about that. So I
the clarification, but then hey, we can just on George Pickens.
We can just franchise him, right, We not to really
work about except for the twenty five mil hits all
next year, right if they franchise it.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Yeah, I mean there's you know, not everybody loves the
franchise tag. So I mean you're you're dealing with It's
not just oh well, I'm the franchise tag. I mean that,
you know, I don't know how he'll take to that.
I don't think think that's what he wants. And so yes,
yes they can do it. And what it does is
you tag him and then it gives you a little
(08:06):
bit of time to negotiate even more in the offseason,
and if somebody wants to sign him to an offer sheet,
then they're probably gonna give you two number ones. So
you know, I mean you it buys you some time.
I don't know if he's just going to play off
the tag though, I got.
Speaker 11 (08:23):
You, and I want him to sign a long term
I'm just looking at it to make sure we can
keep them anyway. That's all I got. Step For my prediction,
I say it's going to be thirty five seventeen Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
All right, Wow, you know that's kind of what I'm in.
The range that I'm in. Maybe not that that much,
but I forgot the caller yesterday, our caller that said
that I was stealing his point for sure. I was like,
thirty three?
Speaker 5 (08:48):
Was it?
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Casey in La I'm like, he talked about thirty all
to thirty three. Door set with thirty three? Now, Davante
thirty three. It's been thirty three years since Cowboys have
won there. So I love it. Whatever my score is
going to be, he's gonna have thirty three, and then
I'm sure all right, Steve in New York is next?
Speaker 8 (09:06):
Hey, what's up next? Hey? How are you good man?
Just a quick question and trivia. So I asked this
pretty much to a few people asked we's I'm gonna
ask it again November fourth, trade deadline? How much if any?
Because look, the Cowboys have always struggled here, This is
a this is a tough game, tough spot. How much
(09:29):
do you think the chance if they win this game
increase the chances of them doing something? Yeah before November fourth,
as opposed to listen, it is possible if they lay
an egg where you know, maybe the front off is
just going to say, well, you know what, let's kind
of go with what we have in stam Pat. You
know how much of that, how much emphasis you put
(09:51):
on this game as far as asking.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
You know, not a lot, honestly, Steve. And the reason
why is because I could see the logic going both
ways here, you know what I mean. I could see saying, man,
good good win, good win, we could be even better,
you know, or tough loss. And it's like, man, if
they just had this, I think we could kind of
(10:14):
get over the top. And again, every move that I
think they would make would be for more than just
this year. So if it makes sense, it makes sense.
You know, it has to make sense, and so I
think any move that they make is gonna make sense
past this season. So whether or not you're four to
three and one or three four and one, I don't
(10:35):
know if that necessarily matters. That's just my take on it.
But I still think we're early enough where one game
is not going to swing whether or not they need
to make a smart.
Speaker 8 (10:44):
Move, right, No, I agree, it's just that there's only
one more game before the deadline. Yeah, you're right, Yeah, true,
that's the only part that you kind of unted the
gun there. But now I'm with you. I'm with you. Okay,
So I'm going twenty seven to twenty four. This has
to end seven straight losses. I think it spans four stadiums.
I'm pretty sure. Yeah, it's a pretty scary way to
(11:05):
look at it through. Yeah, okay, So the seven straight
losses to Denver the tribute question. Denver beat US with
actually seven different starters in those seven games. Wow, how
many could you get?
Speaker 11 (11:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (11:19):
I came up with this.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
One'd be crazy. Seven different starting quarterbacks.
Speaker 8 (11:25):
They beat him from from ninety eight to twenty twenty one.
It spans seven games and there were seven different quarterbacks starts. Man,
I could they'll get the Hall of Famers out of
the way.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Yeah, I could try. But the thing is that we
sit here all day long. So right, yeah, yeah, so
Manning Manning and uh and uh no it's not Lway,
is it? Oh?
Speaker 8 (11:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Yeah, so Lway Manning I have greasy written down.
Speaker 8 (11:54):
Yep, correct, Plumber correct. This is where it gets bad.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
What about the Orton?
Speaker 8 (12:03):
Y Orton?
Speaker 11 (12:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (12:04):
Yeah? What about the Jay Cutler.
Speaker 8 (12:11):
Not Jake all right, but the ones that you have
two seventeen and twenty twenty one.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
Go for it, go for a finishing off, because I
don't want to sit here all day.
Speaker 8 (12:18):
And Teddy Bridge one, we would.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
Have been here all day. We would have been here
all day long. Okay, yeah, I have a good one man, sure,
all right, thank you, good stuff. Oh wow, Trevor Simeon. No,
I wouldn't have got that one or Bridgewater. That's right now.
You know. I look back at that game and uh,
one of the trivia questions for Today's thing for for
we have on our website. You got to make sure
(12:40):
and check that out. And there's some good ones. The
wide receiver who caught both touchdown passes in that game
in twenty twenty one. The Cowboys lost thirty to sixteen.
It was just a bad game all day, all day long,
but they scored too late touchdowns. What wide receiver? I
asked this question to a few people that that are
(13:01):
that were here, that watched the game. Nobody had a
clue for that. I mean, so you can look it up.
It's easy if you look it up. But what wide
receiver cop both touchdown passes in that twenty twenty one
game for the Cowboys. I haven't found anyone that would
get it without without cheating. So anyways, we'll answer it later.
Paul and Vancouver's next. Paul, what's up good? How are you?
Speaker 14 (13:27):
I'm bewhipping? Was it Wi them?
Speaker 1 (13:29):
No, it was not, It was not Cric Wilson. It
was nobody anyone remembers. It's it's crazy. It's crazy, all right. Sorry, Paul,
Carolina Man, Me and Chris were there, Carolina looking for
something to do. Wasn't that you that was hanging out
with us at the at the hotel bar two years ago?
Speaker 14 (13:51):
Two years ago?
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 14 (13:53):
Anyways, Yeah, it's pretty far from here.
Speaker 8 (13:55):
I know.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
I'm just kidding. How you doing?
Speaker 14 (13:57):
I'm whopping. So I'm gonna put it out there, gonna
we're gonna get. We're gonna like the Bronco okres, so
we're gonna win thirty three twenty seven, like how Dak
is playing. So we're gonna win.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
It sounds like an overtime score right there.
Speaker 14 (14:10):
They'll be high scoring.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
But I think we got this, So I got no
go ahead, go ahead.
Speaker 14 (14:16):
Uh, So it's just got two quick things. I'll try
to be quick. So you know, one of my favorite
players of the Cowboys, Randy Gregory, I know he didn't
meet you on good, good terms, But I kind of
think to what happened with the big offseason move. Do
you think that the senior management with the Cowboys kind
of thought the same thing? Because what I remember is
we could have captain Randy on his terms, But I
(14:37):
think that the team maybe thought about it and I know,
we don't really need to do this more better often?
Do you think it was the same type of thing
with Micah where they thought about Derek No, we're good?
Speaker 1 (14:48):
Uh I what do you asking again? I'm sorry what
to ask?
Speaker 11 (14:53):
Are you?
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Are you asking specifically? Was the was the Miket thing
the same as Randy?
Speaker 6 (14:57):
Well?
Speaker 14 (14:57):
Do you think that it was pretty similar in the
contact that you know, I think that they could have
kept Randy if they wanted to, But I think they
thought about the problem, we don't need to do this,
and they learned from that work out for us that
we didn't need to keep him, and maybe that kind
of influenced this decision.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
Maybe. I mean, I mean, they again though they were
trying to sign Micah, let's not let's not you know,
let's be clear about that they were trying to sign him.
I think if you want to put a parallel and
put both of those. I think there were other factors
involved for the player that that were more important than
just being here with the Cowboys, you know. And the
(15:38):
Randy thing was was tough. I mean, I I that
would hurt Jerry. That wouldn't really hurt Jerry because he Uh,
Jerry did a lot for Randy Gregory to stay in
the NFL, to be relevant, to to be able to
to keep playing football. Uh, he stayed by him for
for many years when most people wouldn't have and and
(16:01):
then for for them to have a deal in place.
I know Jerry was going to a funeral that day
for his assistant who passed away, and when he was
there and that's when he got the call that Randy
decided to go to Denver and out hurt him. It did.
Now they spun it with, well, you know, now we
(16:22):
have more money to do other things, which is true.
It's always the case. It's like with Michael, you have
more money to do other things, and they have done
some of these other things, but little different situation. But
I don't know, I mean, I think you learn from
all of it. But you know, let's let's not forget
the part that the Cowboys were trying to keep Micah Parsons.
That just went into other things. A lot of other
factors involved with both of those decisions. All right, Brian
(16:44):
and Kansas City his next Good.
Speaker 14 (16:47):
Morning, Nick, how are you?
Speaker 1 (16:49):
How are you?
Speaker 3 (16:50):
I'm good man, I'm good.
Speaker 11 (16:52):
Hey. You know what I was thinking the other day.
Speaker 5 (16:53):
We always, you know, wonder what happens when sometimes we
lose track of people.
Speaker 9 (16:58):
Huh.
Speaker 5 (16:58):
I hadn't heard them from here to they and my
me in a while, so I just I just want
to throw that out there, Anthony, we hope you're doing
great and call in and sing us a couple of
bars or something.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
That's true. It's been a little bit. I'm kind of
going back on my notes. I haven't seen him in
a little bit. But you're right, you know, I got
a few that that have called for for, you know,
a couple of years, and that I have heard from
in a while, so I always kind of worry about.
But yeah, it has been a little bit for Anthony.
I got him. I have October sixth I think that
(17:32):
might be the last one. I'm not too bad, but
October sixth, I do have Anthony from Miami. Here might
be another one, but that's the one I see.
Speaker 15 (17:40):
So that's how far right, that's just he He captured
my imagination when he's saying dandy Don Meretith closing to
Monday Night Football that one time, I'm.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
Like, God, I took me back to being whatever, seventy
years old right here in that hearing that in person.
So hey, so I'll go with in honor of Zach
in Atlanta's double agent idea. I don't know if you're
going to have a story about this guy because he
didn't play during your time, but obviously we all know
(18:11):
that that TD finished his career over there. Maybe you
have a story just because you know, association with the
organization and you got a chance to meet him at
some point or whatever. And then for this week, you know,
I think, I do think we're going to finally break
(18:31):
the snap snap the streak. I'm going to go. I
guess I'll stick with that thirty three thing too. I'll
go thirty three twenty five. And I think the thing
we have to really watch out for is I watched
the condensed version of the Giants game with them, and
they're a heavy blitzing team. I think the announcer said,
(18:54):
they're number one statistically, number one in the NFL in
rate of blitzing, and what that did to the Giants
early and they figured it out, but early in the game,
the Giants offense just couldn't get moving and it was
because of that. So that's I think they're going to be.
The key is how fast can we settle in and
(19:17):
offset the blitz. That is great against the blitz, but
but you know, I think that's going to be the key.
So thirty three twenty five and any Tony Dorset story
you got, brother.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
I did not hear. Okay, I didn't hear the name.
I was like, who what what story? Tony dor set?
I mean, it's pretty awesome. I mean like he was
my favorite player. I mean, without a doubt, my favorite player.
Uh growing up as a kid, you know, got to
yell at him one time right before a game when
I was six years old, and he kind of gave
me a little was up, you know, and but uh,
(19:52):
you know, it was really weird. And I'm this is
kind of a bittersweet story because I don't have the
picture anymore. But but when I was a kid, my
dad ran into him at some show. You know, I
don't know. He was. My dad traveled a lot and
he saw him somewhere and got an autograph picture of
black and white picture of Tony dor Set, and he
(20:14):
made it out to me and he said, you know,
take my place in nineteen ninety eight. So this was
like in the mid eighties. You know, I was seven,
eight nine years old, and he was like, when I
mapped it out, it's like, uh, take my place in
nineteen ninety eight, you'll be you know, about twenty twenty three,
twenty four years old. And I'm like, you know, obviously
didn't turn into an NFL running back, but I did
(20:36):
start working for the Cowboys in nineteen ninety eight. That
was the first year I was an intern, and then
that ninety nine full time. So pretty cool piece of
irony there, I think, And I wish I still had that,
but but I know he said that, and you know,
so I even I even told his son that we're
working on something maybe maybe another the next documentary with
(20:58):
Tony dor Set, working on that with his so that'd
be a really cool thing to do. Anyways, That's kind
of my story there, and love love Tony Dean man.
He was, He was the best all right, let's go
to Michael Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Speaker 16 (21:11):
All right, man, I know you'll know this, but somebody listen,
HI might not Who what what number is the rarest
for Dallas Cowboys hasn't been used very much legue least he's.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
Number seventy four, yep.
Speaker 16 (21:28):
I mean you just want to think I think he
was the only one that wore.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
Yeah, he is. I mean in the regular season. I
think there's a couple of guys they've thrown in there.
If you get seventy four, if you're a rookie and
they give you seventy four, man, they they're not expecting
major things from you, at least not right away because
you're not going to keep it. So anyway, Yeah, seventy four, Uh,
just once. I think Bob Lilly's the only guy that
(21:53):
that's ever wonted. Yeah, so there's not there's a couple
other numbers that've been worn. I mean, there's not a
lot of I know that, but yeah, seventy four for sure.
Speaker 16 (22:04):
All right, So it looks like we got a group
coming back after the bye yep, which is very encouraging.
We didn't get don't think this trade that everybody's talking
about it's gonna gonna happen, but maybe there'll be something
else and then that group coming back. I mean, I
mean it's looking very very promising. I want to give
(22:26):
my score. It's pretty similar to what yours was. I
don't remember exactly what yours was. But I'm gonna go
Dallas thirty five, and then I'm gonna go Denver twenty one.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
All right, all right, sounds good, Thank you. Michael. Seventy
four is the only jersey number that's been worn just once.
There's been another number. Number eight has been worn twice,
and twelve has been worn three times, and that those
are the fewest. You know. Number four has only been
(23:02):
worn five times. It's kind of interesting that Mike Sachson,
the punter, was the first player to wear it in
nineteen eighty five. That's it's weird. Twenty six years of
the twenty six years of the franchise, and or twenty
five seasons of the franchise, nobody's ever worn it. So
until nineteen eighty five. All right, let's go to break
(23:24):
real quick on Cowboys storyline and be right back.
Speaker 17 (23:28):

All right, go back to the phone lines. Here. We've
(25:33):
got Shelby in Virginia. Shelby, what's up?
Speaker 12 (25:38):
Hey?
Speaker 7 (25:38):
Good morning, Nick? How you doing?
Speaker 1 (25:39):
I'm great? How are you doing?
Speaker 7 (25:41):
I'm doing great. I'll I've got a question or a comment,
question and a score prediction. Okay, so I'll roll right
in comment is I agreed with your that two point
conversion was super important and I like watching it. There's
something about the way Drawn Bland tackles that is so
unique that, like, without THEE his jersey number, I saw
how like technical and clean that tackle was. I was like,
(26:04):
that was one hundred percent drawn Bland.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
You're better than me. You're better than me. Because I
was up in the press box and I just that
spot on the field kind of in the middle of
the field like that, I was thinking that was more
of a linebacker's spot to make that tackle where he did.
I just wasn't surprised. I was surprised to see the
corner make the tackle, so I didn't. I wasn't thinking
that was Drawn Bland. I mean, and I even had
(26:28):
I think I even had the binoculars on that. I
was like, you know, I just didn't think a corner
would be right there in the middle of the field anyways.
Speaker 7 (26:35):
Yeah, watching him just like square up and turn and
the length of his arms side, there's just something distinct
about the way he plays that is so impressive. That
kind of bridges me into my first or into my question,
which is, I'll warn you it's a little ridiculous, but
Wizard has granted you the ability to create eleven carbon
copies of all time Dallas Cowboys, one for offense and
(26:58):
one for defense. They can't be injured, and they will
have to start all eleven at the same time, filling
every position in a game. You know, any team in
the league, you're playing against them, so eleven you know,
Tony Dorsets versus another team, et cetera. For me, if
I was doing it with the current Cowboys, it would
be Javonte Williams offense all offense and Dron Bland all defense.
(27:23):
I'm so as curious what you would how you would answer.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
That one all time or just for you all time?
Speaker 7 (27:29):
That was my current one as an example. But I'm
sorry if you've got your I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
I'm a little bit behind here. Is So, Javonte Williams
is doing everything right that that body type is doing
everything right.
Speaker 11 (27:42):
That's right.
Speaker 7 (27:43):
He's snapping the ball to himself, he's throwing a screen
to himself, running out wide. You know, he's all eleven positions.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
Playing quarterback, left tackle, everything.
Speaker 7 (27:53):
And on defense, Durron Bland is rushing, the quarterback, is
dropping into man coverage, and he's playing all all positions
for both of them. So for your for you, I
want to hear your all time one one defensive player,
one offensive player, and okay, great, curious see where you
go with that. And then my score prediction is I
love the Cowboys thirty three. I manya Cowboys thirty three,
(28:14):
Broncos twenty eight.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
Okay, all right, thirty three, twenty eight, We're all over this.
Thirty three. Man, that's such a unique question. But it's
gotta be some somebody that could do everything. I mean, okay,
I know I just said Tony dorris Set was my guy,
(28:36):
and he was until you know, they brought in a bigger, stronger,
faster Tony door Set, which is herschel Walker. Herschel Walker,
I don't know. I mean like I don't know if
he could pass it, but I know he could run it.
I know he could catch as big as a house,
Like like, I'm sure he could block if he if
he needed to. And herschel Walker, that would I mean,
(29:00):
he just he was like a superhero. So yeah, that
would be my guy on offense and then on defense.
I mean too soon. I mean, like I could do
kind of everything. I mean, he would be in that category.
DeMarcus Ware, I'll just say DeMarcus Ware, Bronco DeMarcus Ware.
(29:21):
I don't know if he could just jam the guy
off the line and he wouldn't really get back into coverage.
I'll just go with a bunch of DeMarcus wars and
herschel Walker's Hersha Walker fun question. I like it all right,
and the line's open here eight eight eight eight five
five to two ninety seven. Chris, we don't we have
a caller?
Speaker 19 (29:40):
Nope, yeah, I was on the phone Shelby in Virginia
as your next caller.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
I just talked to Shelby. Did we not talk to
did we just talk to Shelby? The phones must be
going going crazy back there, for for Chris, just talk
to Shelby. He asked the cool question. I think that's
I'm sorry, it's Casey Joe. My bad, Casey Joe. Okay,
all right, let's go to Casey.
Speaker 14 (30:06):
Good morning, Nick.
Speaker 1 (30:07):
Are you good, sir?
Speaker 18 (30:09):
How are you doing this fine morning?
Speaker 1 (30:10):
I'm good.
Speaker 11 (30:11):
Hey.
Speaker 18 (30:12):
Let me give you my prediction for tomorrow. I got
thirty eight twenty one Cowboys, okay, And then I was
going to ask you it's kind of an odd question,
but do you remember the Michael Urban rule when back
in the.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
Day, Michael headslap.
Speaker 18 (30:30):
Well, they used to. They actually nicknamed the rule after him,
the penalty. John Madden was up in the booth, and
I guess he asked Michael how he had, you know,
got the separation when he went to go up, and
he told John, and then after that the penalty became
(30:52):
the Michael Urban rule. I didn't know if you remembered
that or not.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
No, not necessarily. I mean there's some other players that
had their own rule, but but not not really that one.
But yeah, I mean I knew he was. He was
kind of you know, he was definitely an aggressive receiver,
so that that doesn't surprise me. But I don't remember
it necessarily being the Michael rule. But yeah, I know
Emmitt Emmett's rule was taken the helmet off. That was rule.
(31:18):
Roy Williams rule was the horse caller.
Speaker 9 (31:21):
Yeah, I just I tell you about that one.
Speaker 18 (31:24):
But anyway, uh, and then I think I can't wait
to for James and Overshown and Leah Foul. I think
he's thirty five, isn't he. I can't wait for them
guys to play together.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 18 (31:36):
I just they're all have massive speed and it will
be interesting to see that in the linebacker corps when
overtone gets back.
Speaker 8 (31:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (31:45):
Yeah, well I didn't have much today.
Speaker 18 (31:47):
I just wanted to say hey, and we'll we'll talk
at you later.
Speaker 11 (31:51):
All right.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
Appreciate it, Joe. Yeah. I mean you make a good
point there. I mean the speed of those linebackers. Uh,
that's that. That's impressive. I mean that that will be impressive. Now,
there's more to play in the position than that. Awareness
is a big thing, but getting there, getting to the
ball and then and then also delivering the pop. You know,
that's the thing I like about Leah Falley. Doesn't look
(32:13):
like a big time hitter, but he is. I mean
he definitely doesn't. And Shamar James as well, and you
know Overshown can can bring it. I mean, I just
don't think there's anybody that I can remember in a
long time that you've been pulling for as much as
Demarvin Overshrown. I mean, you just you just want him
to be great because he says all the right things,
(32:35):
his attitude is perfect. You feel bad for him all
these injuries that he's had, and he's just such a fun,
unique player to watch that. I mean, I think everybody
you know other than the opponents of the NFC East.
Maybe everybody wants this guy to succeed, so, uh, you know,
we're certainly hoping that he that he does. All right,
(32:55):
Rob in Vegas is next? Rob? What's up?
Speaker 11 (32:58):
Hey?
Speaker 8 (32:59):
Next?
Speaker 1 (33:00):
You doing?
Speaker 13 (33:01):
I'm good. It's funny you talk about Herschel Walker. He's
the greatest running back I've ever seen. When he played
in the USFL, I used to watch him because he
plays for the New Jersey Generals. Yeah, and he was phenomenal.
I mean, you're right. I mean the man could do
it all. I mean he fought m m A.
Speaker 16 (33:21):
I think he was in assistance.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
Yeah. Yeah, I'm curious. Am I missing some somebody on that?
I mean that that was such a unique question. Caught
me off guard by Shelby and and I'm not you know,
I'm not much of the sci fi type and thinking, like,
you know, I don't I don't think that well when
it comes to these kind of things. But it's a cool,
fun question Herschel. I was just trying to think of
somebody that that I know can do a little bit
(33:44):
of everything and Herschel and d Ware. I'd love to
see the other answers though that who am I missing.
Speaker 13 (33:53):
But maybe maybe Dion, you know, I you.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Know, I thought Dion too, But it's d On stop
of the run, me stopping the round on the outside.
I can't imagine tackle.
Speaker 13 (34:04):
He tackled once for a while that everybody, we would
all be surprised. Yeah he was.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
He would bring he would get the guy down, he
would he'd get him down. I I'm never one that
jumped on all that with Dion couldn't tackle. He he
he make the tackle if he needs to, but that's
not as that wasn't his thing. But yeah, I mean Dion,
you know Deon. If we're if if we just get
one player for for both sides of the ball, then
I would then I would probably say Dion. But now
(34:30):
that's cool.
Speaker 11 (34:32):
You know.
Speaker 13 (34:32):
I was talking to Chris and I said, you know,
here in Vegas, everybody's talking about Max and Dallas, and
the fans are on board, uh trading him.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
The Raider fast? Okay, are they really?
Speaker 16 (34:47):
Because?
Speaker 13 (34:47):
Oh yeah, because they they want a quarterback, that's all.
Speaker 16 (34:51):
You're here.
Speaker 13 (34:51):
And let's say if they get a quarterback he picked,
they could you know, yeah, you know this team needs
more than just him, and I know he's you know,
mister Raider. But and I know they said something like
they won't do it, but then again we said we
wouldn't trade Michens. You know, the deal with the deals
are that, you know, Mike. I think Michael from Bowling
(35:11):
Green is called and that's what scares me because he said,
he said what Jerry has said, And that's why I
have no faith in Jerry making a move like this.
Is we have help coming, No, no, you don't. You
got overshown coming. And let's be honestly, we're hoping the best,
(35:34):
but you can't count on this guy. You know, we
don't know if he's going to be eighty percent of
what he was this year.
Speaker 10 (35:41):
Revel.
Speaker 13 (35:42):
I don't even think he's ever going to play this year.
I think this is a sitout year, red shirt year.
I think he'll get in maybe a little bit here
and it, but he's not going to just walk on
the field and Gates is going to sit down. So
and then Mingo's never done anything here, And honestly, do
I want Mingo catching the BA over Pickins or lamb. No,
(36:03):
So the help isn't coming. Bodies are coming, and you know,
everybody's putting a lot of pressure on this game. Like
if we win this game, and I agree with you,
if if we score thirty again and let's say we
lose thirty four to thirty, that's got a light of fire.
(36:24):
I mean, if we all see it, it's like we
just need to. If we had Micah with Kenny Clark
right now, everything else is the same, we'd probably be
undefeed for one game. We'd have one loss. You know,
so don't get you know, the pass rusher. You have
(36:49):
to affect the quarterback. The whole game is based. If
if I was in a meeting, but if I was
going to call, I was gonna ask Dan Woodson that
I said, what's the most you know, that's the biggest thing.
Speaker 11 (36:59):
The big thing is.
Speaker 13 (37:00):
You have to speed up the quarterback. Worries me about
this game this week is is not him throwing, it's
it's bonus running and they run the ball. They run
the ball just period. But we've seen mobile quarterbacks hurt
this team.
Speaker 16 (37:17):
So and he's the whole thing.
Speaker 13 (37:19):
We haven't won in ninety that's meaningless. Some of these
kids weren't even born, so it doesn't even to me.
That never factors in is the you know, the air
and yes, that's a that's a factor.
Speaker 1 (37:30):
Well, they've been better, that's the thing. The Denvers has
been a better team. And it's not just there, it's here.
I mean, so yeah, it's been thirty years since they've
won here, you know.
Speaker 13 (37:40):
So yeah, all right, but I think we squeak it
out by about four thirty four to thirty, you know
something like that.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
Okay, all right, thanks for the call. You know, I
think you make a good point. I'm looking at some
of these scores. Most of them are pretty close for
five point games. But the Michael from Bowling Green in
Casey Joe and Casey the have thirty five twenty one.
That's the kind of game that might take the trade
off the table, you know what I mean, Like, oh,
defense is coming around, and now we're getting a little
(38:08):
bit more help there. If it's if it's thirty five,
thirty four, or you lose or win, whatever it is,
your defense is just continuing to give up points that
I think that's when you're like, we've got to get
some help here. We've got to get somebody that can
help us get off the field. But you win some
of these games thirty five, seventeen, thirty eight, twenty one
just like they did last week. Then it's like, wait
(38:29):
a second, do we really need the help? I mean,
offense is scoring great, defense has finally coming turning the corner.
So but we'll see. All right, let's go to break
one more time on story and I'll be right back.

I can wait with starting off Joe in Fort Worth. Joe,
what's up? First time caller?
Speaker 21 (40:13):
Hey, Nick, Yeah, I've been listening to you guys for years.
Speaker 20 (40:16):
Uh.
Speaker 21 (40:16):
I actually just moved out here from Tucson, Arizona. I
moved to Withtaga, okay, like thirty minutes from the stadium.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
So yeah, it's it's uh yeah, that's cool. That's Dallas
Fort Worth ish, I mean, that's kind of out there.
But hold on, hold on, Chris. Chris did it. But
I want to make sure we do here we go
because we were talking, all right, Joe, what you got
for us?
Speaker 21 (40:38):
All right? So I got two things. Firstly, is there
anything outside of like going to a game that you
recommend is like a must do for a Cowboy fan
in this area. And then second, I saw that the
Cowboys offense is number two one points per game. Normally,
when you have a defense who's you know, suspect you know,
I would say we say that they typically try to
(41:00):
run the ball, keep the defense off the field as
much as possible. Obviously, Cowboys have an explosive offense. Do
you expect and hope that iber Flus is going to
continue to send more blitzes the last couple of weeks.
I think we're a fit in the league in blitzes,
And obviously it's played a huge impact because we just
we don't have the pass rushers without blitzing. We're not
(41:20):
getting the pressure without the blitzes, and I don't think
we can unless we continue to see blitzer. So it
makes it would make sense, you know, with our offense
being so explosive, that we can at least take some
more risk on defense to try to generate pressure and turnovers.
Speaker 1 (41:34):
There's no other way. I mean, you're right, there's no way.
What you can't happen is another Bears game where Caleb
Williams and those guys go what fourteen eight were nineteen plays?
Just the entire quarter just have a ten minute drive.
You can't have that. And you got to get them
to make get them uncomfortable to make a decision. And
I think the best way right now is the blitz
(41:54):
because these guys just are not getting home with four,
so got to send more. And I think the corners
actually bland and then if Diggs can come back those corners,
I think and can hang in there. Manda Man, Uh,
you don't have to you don't have to go forever
if you're if you're blitzing typically.
Speaker 21 (42:08):
Yeah, I want Agent zero sent every third down, just
split them every third down.
Speaker 1 (42:14):
Yeah, yeah, for sure. All right, Well, Joe, thanks for
the call, and I'm gonna answer your question off off
the air, but thank you, uh for the for the call,
first time caller. Good to have you with us. Uh,
he said, must must things to do for a Cowboy fan. Well,
I'll go to Dallas Cowboys dot com every day and
listen to as many podcasts as you can, uh, starting
(42:36):
with this one, and then from then on, you know,
whatever else you can you can get to. Uh, you know,
the the tour here is is pretty good. I mean,
and they do a lot of them. Uh and and
I've come up here on a Saturday before and and
uh I've seen tours there, you know. And so you're
not gonna run into as many players, of course, but
uh or coaches. But uh, the the tour here at
(42:58):
the Stars is worth it. And you know, it's it's
really interesting of the stuff that you get to see,
some of the behind the scenes stuff, war room, maybe
the locker room just kind of depends on the day.
You see the practice fields, the Ford Center, all that
good stuff. So that's the one thing that I would
I would say, or or you could just come back
(43:18):
here on certain days when and Chris just lets people
sit next to him and punch buttons all day long.
Speaker 12 (43:24):
You know.
Speaker 1 (43:24):
He lets one fan a day come and do that.
So you have to apply for that, but he he
loves having fans come in there to help him with
with all that. All right, Lester and Minnesota's next Lester.
Speaker 9 (43:38):
Good morning, next morning.
Speaker 1 (43:39):
How are you.
Speaker 9 (43:41):
I'm doing well?
Speaker 3 (43:42):
How are you man?
Speaker 1 (43:43):
I'm great.
Speaker 3 (43:45):
Hey, I wasn't gonna call in today, but I liked
the little trivial question. My all time defensive guy would
be Randy White, okay, and then offensive guy be Mike
Orvan Yeah.
Speaker 1 (44:00):
Yeah, And so yeah, I mean Mike, Mike, you know,
I guess he could block, you know what I mean.
I mean he uh, he's pretty feisty, so I'm sure
he could block, and I know he could run it.
I don't know about Randy White there on the corner.
Speaker 3 (44:16):
But then again, oh but but he was a heck
of a a heck of a path rusher man. Yeah,
I mean he was really good on that line, and
he could play minebacker because he sat as a mindbacker,
so you know, yeah, on the corner, I don't know.
And then as far as Michael irving Man, to me,
he was the heart of that team. I mean he
(44:38):
was always pumping everybody up and talking everybody, come on,
come on, come on, come on. And I heard stories
about he would be practicing that night time when no
one else was there. Yeah, by himself, was just Mike
irving Man. And then my score this week would be
thirty eight Cowboys thirty three to Denver to go with
(45:01):
the thirty three club. And as I always say, that
run the ball, that play action pass, that throw the
ball CD and picking go Cowboy, all.
Speaker 1 (45:17):
Right, good stuff. You know, I'm thinking about more of
those of those guys that could do you know, both things,
and you know, it really comes down to just like
great athletes, That's that's what it comes down to. It's
like who could who could do so many things? Kind
of freaked players. You know t O was kind of
a freak player back in the seventies, Hollywood Henderson. You know,
(45:41):
I mean, this is a linebacker that haven't has a
ninety seven yard kickoff return for a touchdown and then
spiked it over the goalpost. Linebacker man. Pretty good stuff,
all right, Chris Chris uh is putting his foot down here.
He said there's no way we'd have twelve calls. We
got twelve, but he said no more. After that, it
(46:02):
is time for us to wrap this thing up. Been
a fun show, a lot of good stuff, talking potential trades,
talking about the front office, talking about hypothetical superhero guys
that could do a little bit everything. And then but
one thing that's pretty consistent though everybody's everybody's got this
thing in the thirties for the Cowboys thirty eight, thirty five,
(46:24):
thirty three, thirty three, thirty five, thirty eight, thirty four,
thirty five. There was maybe one here. Steve had a
twenty seven, twenty four, but everybody's got it in the thirties.
That doesn't always mean a win for the Cowboys, but
on the road you can get get up there. You
should give yourself a chance. We'll see what happens. We'll
talk about it all tomorrow, though. We come back and
wrap this thing up with more score predictions and see
(46:45):
about some injury updates and news and news and notes
things like that. All right, for Chris Beam, I'm nick
eating to see tomorrow on Cowboys storyline.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
