Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
This is Cowboys Storyline presented by Gillette, the official shave
of the Dallas Cowboys. Here's Nick Eatman.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Good morning, and welcome to Cowboys Storyline presented by Gellette.
I am Nick Eatman. It is Monday, October the sixth,
and the Cowboys are now two two and one all
year long. I'm going to say a record that I've
never said before. There's another one. There're not many teams,
I guess are exactly five hundred. I believe the Bears

(00:48):
are because they're two and two after four games, but
the Cowboys two two and one and five games, they
are back to five hundred with a impressive win. It
was to me at least thirty seven to twenty two.
I think it's a big win. I mean because it
was I must win, and because and we said this
all the time about you know, the early in the year,
these are the games you have to have. You've got

(01:09):
to go into New York and beat the Jets. Underdogs
are not and I believe by the kickoff the Cowboys
were slight underdogs in the game, but they dominated the game,
and they were not only the better team, but you know,
I think this is important to say they made a
team look worse than they are. We say it all
the time, man, why do we always play to our

(01:31):
level of our competition. Well, they didn't this game. They
exceeded that and they made a bad Jets team look worse.
So and I don't think the Jets are terrible. I
looked at their schedule. I bet they win two games
out of the next you know, two of the next
four games. I bet they'll win here pretty soon, as

(01:52):
long as they stick together. But I thought, you know,
give the Cowboys credit for how they played the game,
with all of the injuries that they have to do
what they did on the offensive line and put up
that many yards and that many points. Again, I mean,
they scored thirty seven points now three three games this
year in regulation, thirty seven right on the dot. A

(02:12):
couple of times they've got the forty in overtime. That's
the third time that they've hit thirty seven. That's pretty impressive.
And they're now right over thirty points a game. So
when you think of all the injuries that you had
on the line, the receivers and everything missing some very
key players. To keep doing that. It is really good,
all right' go to the line Lester and Minnesota's first.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Good morning, Nick.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
How you doing?

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Hey, I'm doing good man. First of all, I want
to give kudos to the offensive line and the offensive
line coaches. I think they've done a sensational job. I've
never really known someone to come in with four backups
on the line and play that well like that, So

(02:57):
I want to give kudos to the coach just and
the offensive line. Wow, I'm just so happy. Man. We
had five sacks yesterday for the defense and the defensive line.
And you know, I'm an offensive leade and defensive line guy,
so I'm really feeling good. And again, I love the

(03:20):
coaching that Shottenheimon is doing. And I look at little
things like all the time out when it looks like
looked like, you know, they weren't organized or whatever was
going on, but he called the time out in the
first half. I'm an advocate of using your timeout in
the first half if you look like you need them,
and sometimes got no coaches don't do that. They save

(03:42):
them for some reason and you can't use them after
the first half anyway, and I just all right, I'm
just happy, man. I just just want to say one
more thing. The foundation of this seems to be running
the run the ball, play action pass, and throw the

(04:03):
ball back. Go Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
All right, thank you for the call, Lester. Let's go.
Let's keep this thing going. Let's try to get quicker
in and out of here. So Anthony and Miami, what's.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
Up, Nate the quick? What's up my guy?

Speaker 2 (04:17):
How you doing?

Speaker 4 (04:18):
I'm doing all right, man, took a little break. I
had to check in with the boys. So we're gonna
make it. We're gonna make it quick. You know. I
gotta show love to you first of all, like to say,
to do a flashback. You know, I predicted ten six
to one. So the tie for me, let's get back
on that was excellent. And I think that tie is
gonna help us sneak into the playoffs. So I did
predict that time. Okay, So that's what's gonna happen on

(04:41):
that now for this right now, the number one thing.
Everybody's gotta realize what's happening with the team. Dak's playing
out of his mind, showing true leadership with all the people.
He's missing and we have depth. We keep that up,
keep the depth with the injuries and how good they
are playing. We got a shot, so I'm making fast
man mission.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
All right, all right, appreciate it. You're right about that.
Dak is playing really good football right now. And you
take his best receiver away, take his fastest receiver away,
take the best offensive lineman, maybe the best guard in
the league take it away, Take your other strong guard away,
your starting center. I mean, everything is being taken away

(05:20):
and nothing is changing really, so it's and that is
the constant right now. He's playing really really good football.
He's taking what's there. The running game. Got to give
a credit to the running game because they've they've been outstanding.
Javonte Williams. You know, it's it's better than you would
have thought for him, and I have a point on that.

(05:41):
I'm sure we'll talk about running backs later on in
the show. Jeremy and DC is our next caller. Jeremy,
what's up man here?

Speaker 5 (05:48):
Yo?

Speaker 6 (05:48):
Nick?

Speaker 5 (05:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (05:51):
Yes, all right man, that's what's up man? Yeah? I
like how they given j dub the ball man. He's
running that thing. He looking like there when I'm saying that,
I'm talking about like the more curries he get, the
better he getting. You know what I'm saying. It isn't
not like he or either they getting tired or something.

(06:11):
And you know GT. Three came through with another assists,
and then old Boy were did Royn Floyd?

Speaker 8 (06:19):
No, he come from.

Speaker 7 (06:22):
You know what I'm saying. But it was a fur
delicious day. And I like how Evil Flew was mixing
up that defensive line had he was bringing them he
was It looked like he learned how to play with
his new toys now, you know what I'm saying, learning
when to get a man on which downs and stuff
like that. And I like how he moving with them,
you know what I'm saying. And I'm loving how Shoddy

(06:46):
and Dark is.

Speaker 9 (06:48):
Oh my goodness, it's looking so good.

Speaker 7 (06:50):
It looking so good. Remember I called last year and
I said, please lest shot. He called the place for
Dak since him and you know, everybody was comparing Dak
the rusted Wilson and better. And it looked like Russey
Wilson had a little flashback when he's met up with
Shy again. Yeah, true, yeah, but that that's really it.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Nick.

Speaker 7 (07:12):
I just don't hurt nobody.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
All right, obviously it'll be a fun day. It's good day.
We don't hurt anyone today. It was a great, great game,
great win. And I'm not one thanks for the call, Jeremy.
I'm not one that thinks that that, you know, oh well,
it's just the Jets. I mean, you're you're supposed to
take care of business there. You're supposed to win those games,
and and they dominated that and and you know, Jeremy

(07:35):
just mentioned five or six different players. You could talk about,
the running back and the tight end. And Ferguson's playing
really good, and you know, it's complimentary to what he's
that safety valve for Dak. He's really really you know,
in the right spot there. And I mean this is
not a disrespect to to Ferguson. It's really more of

(07:57):
a compliment to them. But that's like a extended running play.
When they're passing the ball to Ferguson, it's not it's
a it's an easy pitch and catch. And while it's
a quarterback to a tight end and it's averaging I
think seven yards six yards seven something like that for
the season, but you know, think of it almost like
a running play because that's how safe it's it's become

(08:20):
that's you know, that's and it also can extend to more.
So it I'm not calling it a run, I'm not,
you know, I'm just saying it's a it's a safe
play that's getting them six seven yards and sometimes more,
and so that that's really helping the offense even more.
All right, Travis and san Antonio's next.

Speaker 10 (08:41):
Nick Happy victory Monday.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Yeah, for sure, great win.

Speaker 11 (08:45):
Yep, I know you were.

Speaker 10 (08:47):
I kind of heard the end of what you're just
talking about there about you know, everyone's saying it's the Jets,
but we did have some meal. It's to me, it's
we can do both things right because the national media
says own now cowboys stands are gonna be sitting here
saying we're going to the super Bowl, which is completely
non sensing, which is why I don't listen to it.
But you can also appreciate that. Yeah, they had four
offensive linemen out, two of the best receivers out, and

(09:10):
the question was where they going to pass this taf
could they keep the momentum going on offense? The answer
is yes. So that is an achievement. So you got
to give big ups to Shottenheimer. I think I said
multiple times in this game, Nick, like good play, good play,
call like it was good rhythm, it was well timed.
And then I'm going to say this again this week.
I don't know what we got to do. Everyone's saying
pay this guy, pay that guy. I don't know. My

(09:31):
biggest fear is is that we lose Clayton Adams because man,
Clayton Adams and Count Riley, I can't say enough, like
I've been saying since San Francisco last week, if you
want to see the best Dack, let's re establish and
reinvent the running game. And I think that support for him.
I think that's an under appreciated thing Nick, where I
think it also frees up back too, because he knows, like, Okay,

(09:52):
if I don't have my best stuff, we have a
change up. I can hand this ball off it, we
can go dominate. So I think that's a huge thing.
And then the last thing, I think Brian and Lakeland,
who was in Lakeland he moved back to San Antonio,
wanted me to tell you. He wanted to shout out
the basically end of the halfs the cowboys being greedy,
you know, which turned out to be a really good thing.

(10:13):
Using the timeout to get the ball back, he goes
on that long run they score again. So I'm just
doubling up there. And that's the advantage that we talking
about about receiving right or kicking first and then being
able to double up.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
So yeah, I just.

Speaker 10 (10:24):
Wanted to point that out and tell you guys, it's
awesome that they got to win and looking forward to Carolina,
let's go, all right, kick the dattles.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
But thanks Travis, they didn't. That's the thing you're talking
about deferring and getting the ball to start the third quarter,
and that's how you double up. They didn't double up.
Then they doubled up twice before the half, which is
very rare. Once the Jets threw the ball on first
down to come out of the break, I'm sorry, after

(10:51):
the Cowboys had scored to make it I guess they
made it seventeen to three, and with fifty seconds to go,
the Jets could have just run the ball and got
out of here, but they threw it on first down.
It was incomplete. That changed everything because now the Cowboys,
with two timeouts, could stop it twice. What happened they
got a sack, which they called timeout. Then there was

(11:13):
another short play short of the first down, another timeout.
Cowboys get the ball back, but you know they were
going for a field goal, and that's what should have happened.
But then Javonte Williams ran the ball sixty six yards
and nobody couldn't get to sixty seven, but you know,
he ran it, and then that led to another touchdown.
I think the Cowboys scored twice in forty two seconds,

(11:35):
and that's the second time that's happened in two games
now where the Cowboys have scored two touchdowns in less
than a minute. Right before the half, Sergeant Sue and
fort Worth is next. Sergeant Sue was up.

Speaker 12 (11:46):
Eddie's everybody, how you doing it?

Speaker 7 (11:47):
Good?

Speaker 2 (11:47):
Good?

Speaker 12 (11:48):
Hey man, I'm feeling really good man. One thing that
I want to say right now is culture. Culture.

Speaker 5 (11:53):
Culture.

Speaker 12 (11:54):
A lot of us, you know, weren't really excited about
the shoddy Higher. Some people will call him, you know,
a puppet, or some people call him whatever they call him,
you know, but you know, I saw something with him
that I haven't seen in a very long time. That
compete every day, all day, every day to the wheels
come off, that thing that he's been preaching this whole time.
We're seeing it. I mean we're down to you know,

(12:15):
six seven, eighth, ninth offensive linemen, linebackers are out, safeties
are out.

Speaker 5 (12:19):
Wide receivers are out.

Speaker 12 (12:20):
We lost one of the you know, top three wide
receivers in the league, top three pass rusher went to
a different team. It doesn't matter. He's preaching every single day.
You go out there, you compete, You're a grown man,
you could fight, you could make plays, and we're seeing that. Man,
that's something that I really think that he deserves a
lot of kudos for.

Speaker 11 (12:37):
You know, he has a lot to prove.

Speaker 5 (12:39):
Still going forward. Consistency is what's going to be key.

Speaker 12 (12:42):
But I think that that's something that you could really
you know, you have to salute him for that, you know.
I mean, so I think that's really something that's exciting
going forward. We got a couple of games coming up
that we should be able to clean up as well,
and let's get this thing going. Man, I appreciate you
for taking my call.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
Brothers, Yeah, thank you. You know, after the game against
the Packers, I believe that you know, the cameras NFL films,
cameras that might have been our cameras that got shot.
He talking about that game and he said, you know,
that was tough. It was to tie, but he said,
we're going to go on and run. You know, we're
going to do this. We're about to go on to run, guys,
And you know that's I know it's one game, but

(13:16):
that's what it looked like. You know, it looked like
that they're kind of ready to do this. And when
you look at the schedule, there's nothing on this schedule
that you would think, all right, you can't go win.
And now I saw you know, everyone's happy that Denver
beat the Eagles. I get that, and then you got
to go to Denver. It's a place you haven't won
since nineteen ninety two, so it's been a long time,

(13:37):
and that's going to be a really tough game. But
every everything is winnable, you know, with the way the
Cowboys are scoring points right now, everything's everything's winnable. And
going back to the Travis question about Clayton Adams and
Connor Riley, both of them on the offensive line. You know,
when when they hired Clayton Adams, who was the old
line coach for the Cardinals, it was like, okay, he's

(13:58):
he's an O line guy. He's not going to just
coach that. Then they got Connor Riley, who is the
old line, So a lot of resources there to this
offensive line, and it's showing. I mean that they look
how well coached these guys are because they're stepping right
in and they're playing and you know, no one's mentioning TJ. Bass,
but he plays really, really well. And if it wasn't

(14:20):
for an offside penalty on Quinn Williams, they're all Pro
defensive tackle. He got called for offsides. I don't know
if he would have really heard his name. I don't
think he did much. Sauce Gardner, you know, he's there,
All Pro corner and he didn't do anything. He lost
a deep ball, you know, one on one and some
hand fighting with George Pickens. He did not win that

(14:40):
hand fight, and you know, a great you know, great job.
So those two players right there are the best two
that the Jets have, and they were neutralized, especially on
the offensive line. All right, let's go to Brian in
Kansas City. Good morning, sir, How are you doing?

Speaker 6 (14:56):
Good man?

Speaker 8 (14:56):
Good? It was so nice to see a game where
for most of the game, once we had it. You know,
once we got up by two scores, there was no
real angst. I know, there was no like you know,
biting your nails like god, now what you know it was?
It was really it had been a while since I

(15:18):
could remember a game like that. So and you know,
the thing that that really crossed my mind as and
you touched on how well the backup offensive lineman played.
But when I looked at at kind of towards the
end of the game, the thing that really, you know,
the thing that I thought about was how valuable especially

(15:41):
knowing that we won. You know, in hindsight, how valuable
is it that so many of these players who are
not normally going to be who are not starters, they
are not going to be big contributors in the future.
You know, got time, got first team reps in a
live game, and we won, you know, like like Flornoy,

(16:07):
like you know, you look at how his performance when
everybody's healthy, that guy is so deep on the depth chart.
He's not going to have a game like that again,
not in the near future, you know, except for injury.
But now you look at the value of this and
James and and you know, all the people, you know,
all the four backup offensive linemen and all these guys.

(16:33):
You look at the value of this if if Flournoy
had to come into a game late in the year,
big big, you know, whatever, the playoffs are on the line,
or maybe maybe we make the playoffs, and you know,
Dak would have absolute faith in him because he's seen it.
He knows he can do it, and Flornoy knows he

(16:54):
can do it. And that's so valuable to these guys
that don't get much playing time.

Speaker 4 (17:00):
That's it.

Speaker 8 (17:00):
That's it, man, what a great game. Go Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
Thank you. You know, it's funny. There's two sides, as
Parcels would say, there's two sides to that pancake when
he was when everyone says, well, why don't the starters
play more in the preseason and things like that, where
you know, I mean, you'd like for them too, but
at the same time, they're also, uh, you know, risking injury.

(17:24):
But what's happening is is if they're not playing, then
you have a lot of young guys that are playing,
and so you know, you you can now you can
look back and go, man, I'm kind of glad they
did that. I'm glad that that Nate Thomas got a
lot of snaps. TJ. Bass brock Hoffman, they got a
lot of snaps. They're in the in the preseason games.

(17:46):
You know, Identity played some there. Flinoy played a lot
in the preseason and so he's just kind of gotten
better and better. Uh as as we've moved along here
all right, Jr. In Avondale, Arizona Jr. What's up?

Speaker 5 (18:01):
Good morning, Mick House, everything in Dallas. Good, excellent, happy
victory Monday. So none of my really predictions of who
was going to intercept and none of that came true.
But who cares?

Speaker 8 (18:12):
Because we won, right right?

Speaker 5 (18:14):
My final score I said would be thirty eight seventeen
and it wasn't. But who cares? We won? Pretty cool anyway,
y'all talked about a lot of stuff that I was
going to talk about, But let's get some a shout
out and some props to Will McClay and his group
and the Joneses for finding these offensive linemen, because these
guys aren't third round picks and stuff like that, right,

(18:36):
these are free agents. And I think Nate Thomas is
up fifth or seven round pick, I'm.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Not sure which, yeah, sixth maybe, But.

Speaker 5 (18:45):
These guys are playing at a level. All you have
to do is watch though the Washington LA game yesterday
and the Chargers had a couple of linemen out and
they cannot protect Herbert and they look terrible. So my
house off to getting the talent, acquiring the talent right.
And then something I haven't heard us talk about is
Shamar James. He had fifteen tackles yesterday. Gots more tackles

(19:10):
than a Cowboy player has had since Sean Lee in
twenty fifteen. So think about that for a second. He
was balding yesterday. I think that he has got himself
a spot. And I'll say the same thing for Ryan Flanoy.
I think he kind of bumped Tolbert right off the
edge of the table. So that's really all I had today.

(19:32):
Great win, go Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
All right, thank you j R. You know you mentioned
Shamar James. You want some ironyou How about this stat
Chamar James. I looked it up. How many rookies have
had fifteen tackles in the game, and it's like thirty
six have done it. So thirty six players NFL history
have done it, So you know that's that's great. Two Cowboys,

(19:56):
the Lton vander esh did as a rookie in eighteen,
and then so did Shamar James yesterday. Also on the
list was Jack Sanborn, who happened to be the player
that Shamar James replaced, So he replaced Sanborn, who's also
had a fifteen tackle game as a rookie against the

(20:18):
Jets back in twenty twenty two with the Bears. So
kind of ironic little stat But yeah, I mean the
way he played and the way he flew to the football,
He's going to continue to get better, and that'll be
one where that's gonna be when you look at all
the decisions. Okay, Guiden comes back, what do you do
with Nate Thomas Nothing? I think you play Guitton. What

(20:41):
do you do with Flinoy he comes back? I think
he does play more. He's got to be in there
in your system more, even even taking some of Turpin's
snaps depending on how they want to play certain things,
because I think Turpin still gadget player, which is good.
That's not disrespect. You need that when you've got some

(21:01):
really really great receivers on the outside. Mingo's coming back,
so they got decisions to make there. But Shamar James
and Sambourne. That's one where you know James is just
going to have to play more. He has to, especially
with the defensive tackles the way you have it here.
All right, let's go, let's go to break real quick.
I don't want to have to rush our next caller

(21:22):
showle's go to break on Cowboy storyline.

Rob in Vegas is next, Hey Nick, Hey Rob.

Speaker 9 (23:43):
The word of the day is opportunity.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
Okay.

Speaker 9 (23:46):
I mean we've seen it in the history of football
with the goat Tom Brady. You you get a chance
to play, it changes, it could change your life, could
change the team. I thought yesterday, you know, Flounoy kind
of reminds me of Dez, a little bit, big body.

(24:07):
He's different than the rest of the wide receivers we have,
and he's a playmaker and I and uh, you know,
there was a couple of plays where he would catch
the ball, he still needed a couple of yards to
get the first down, and he when some guys over
and get it. With our other wide receivers, little guys,
they can't really do that, right. I thought the offensive

(24:27):
line was fantastic. I disagree with you about Geidon Will
They probably try him again yet, But I just think, uh,
Nate Thomas played so good, and I just think Jack
looked so cold. I don't think Dak got sacked the
whole game.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
If he did, it's that one play where he was
rushing again, very similar to the microp player where he slid.
They called that a sack. But yeah, not in the pocket.
I don't believe so.

Speaker 9 (24:53):
No, Yeah, I just think Thomas just a little more
solid right now. But we'll see what happens. And Hoffman,
I'm not sure. Hoffman's not better than BB at center.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
I don't know if I disagree there. I don't think
I'm not. I'm not disagreeing with you.

Speaker 9 (25:10):
He's really good.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
He really is, and he's you know, he's just kind
of what you want in there, right, nothing against me.
I don't know. This is a tough one. Yeah, it
certainly is, because these guys get hurt, they get banged up,
is you know, but you've got ten You've got ten

(25:33):
guys that are that are just playing, you know, together,
and they're going to be needed and you know, Steele
will get banged up maybe or Guidon gets banged up,
and you know Nate Thomas. Let's let's be fair now,
Nate Thomas was a seventh round pig talent wise second
or third, Okay, but the list of his injuries coming

(25:54):
out of college was almost comical, even though injuries aren't funny.
But you wouldn't believe eve how many injuries they read
off in the war room when they were saying, this
is what this guy's dealing with, and so he's had,
you know, so if he helped health wise, he was
a he was a really good prospect, but he just
couldn't stay healthy. So that being said, you know, it's

(26:14):
better to have a bunch of guys here.

Speaker 9 (26:17):
Yeah, and I agree with you know on defense, you
know juan Ye Thomas Uh I think is a good
young player. I think he should be on the field.
Shama James showed up. Uh Luis l made one. I
think one of the biggest plays with the punch out,
no doubt. I just think they found some young guys

(26:39):
and and now you rolle with them. I why not. Uh,
it's not like the guys that are way better, if
better at all. Jak is just on another level. You know,
Dylan said it last week.

Speaker 5 (26:52):
You know, Romo is.

Speaker 9 (26:53):
Always good and then that one year you could just
see Romo just saw the play before it started. Yeah,
you're starting to see that with Dak. Jak doesn't look flustered.
You know, in the in the past, he looked flustered.
Now he's seen it before it happens, and he's doing

(27:14):
it without his best wide receive it. You know, it's
nice that Pickings is kind of you know, we heard
he could be a number one. Yeah, I think he can.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Yeah, he certainly, all right.

Speaker 9 (27:24):
But yeah, no, great, great game, great win, and like
you said, it's time to go on a roll.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
All right, roll appreciate that, you know, And I mentioned
it last week, and I think Dylan's right. Rob's right
when you're talking about that year comparing that year that
Rumo had in twenty fourteen where he really just started
to see it and it clicked for him. Also clicked
because he had an eighteen hundred yard rusher there in
DeMarco Murray who had one hundred yards every single game,

(27:49):
and he might have had a fumble every now and again,
but he also would have one hundred yards or and
score a touchdown and it was worth it that season.
And so you know, Dak, Yeah, he's sixty million a year,
I get it, but he's getting help and he doesn't
have to do everything, and on third and two they
can run it. They can run it here on third
and three if they need to, and they have a

(28:10):
running back that's getting more yards. So and also credit
the offense of play calling and scheme. You know, it's
not like, yeah, the offensive line's done a nice job,
but they're also protecting the line as well. You know,
they're giving it help, you know, help at times when
they're going up against the Packers and Michael Parsons or
in a game like this. They got the ball out

(28:31):
of Dak's hands early, which means these receivers. I mean,
the slant pass is back, and we haven't really seen
it work like this. I mean, should I say Apeman
to Irvin, I mean, like we just that wasn't a
pass romo through a lot and even Dak early in
his career, it just didn't seem like I could be wrong,

(28:53):
but I don't remember the slant as much as I've
seen it this year. And I there were a lot
of big plays in the game, and obviously the fumble
by lea foul was huge, but right after that, okay,
five yard penalty on Cropper, he's got that he didn't
line up right, and it's first and fifteen. You're back
at your own five. They got it back to the ten.

(29:15):
It's second and ten. The Jets called time out. They're
going to get the ball here at midfield and probably
go get a field goal. Second and ten slant to
Flinoy for ten. That was huge. He got that. Now
it's like, wait a second, now we're going to get points.
We're going we're driving to get points. Well, they drove, drove,
and they Illinois with another big catch and then they

(29:37):
scored and then got the ball and scored again. But
that ten yard slant of Illinois was huge because that
opened up the offense to say, all right, now we're
not backing our own end zone. We got it first down,
let's go get points for Aubrey. And they got a
lot more than that. So I thought that was a huge,
huge play in the game. All right, Brandon and Fresno,

(29:57):
it's next.

Speaker 5 (29:58):
Hey Brandon, happy victory.

Speaker 9 (30:00):
Monday Man. Once again, kudos to dak Man. He's playing
his butt off, man. I mean, people say they want
to see him runing. He's running, he's moving, he's moving,
you know, he's picking up picking up the next yards.
But I'm not worried about the office. I was worried
about the running the game. But Jeanty Williams man, he's
a man, a guy he is. He's running with a vengeance.

(30:20):
So kudos to the offense. Offense is great, But how
about this defensive line man, James Houston. You know, I think, honestly,
I think he's got something going. And Dante Fowlers showed out.
I know it's the Jets, but I just wanted to
see what you've seen on that defensive line team, Like
after that Green Bay game, is just they out all
that jitters out about number one over there. But now

(30:41):
it just seems like this D line is moving. Kenney
Clark's moving, like everybody's moving on that D line. That
seem me yesterday it just it looked really good. So
I just wanted to say happy victory Monday. And you
know the score Cowboys was get Carolina and Rico Dawell.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
All right, we'll talk about Rico here. Thanks for the call, Brandon,
You're right, the D line playing as a unit, I thought,
by far Dante Fowler's best game maybe since he has
played for the Cowboys and this will be his third
year with the Cowboys overall, and I thought he played
really good in the game. You know, Kenny Clark played

(31:15):
well osa Osa the last two games. Is starting to
really during the corner. But you know, when you talk
about players that they've added, it starts with Pickens, right,
I mean Pickens has been outstanding, right below Davonte Williams.
I mean Davonte Williams. I mean those two guys together,

(31:36):
So I get it. That's one and two for sure.
I could be missing someone. But where does Solomon Thomas
rank here? Because I mean maybe third, but he's been
very good and he came back. You know, this was
a guy that was third overall. I mean he's the
third overall pick in the draft way back when, and

(31:56):
he's played with the forty nine ers, he played with
the Jets, and he was you know, he was very
complimentary of the Jets all week long and even after
the game. But this game meant something and it showed.
I mean it showed he really played his butt off
in that game. And that's just providing even more depth.
I mean, there's been so many years we didn't have
two defensive tackles that we're playing. Well, now you have

(32:19):
three for sure. Really good stuff. All right, let's go
to Ierwin in Colorado. He's next.

Speaker 16 (32:24):
Good morning, Nick, How you doing good?

Speaker 4 (32:26):
How are you doing good?

Speaker 16 (32:28):
Doing really good?

Speaker 12 (32:29):
Hey, just a couple of things.

Speaker 7 (32:30):
I'll keep it quick. How refreshing is it for the.

Speaker 16 (32:34):
Play calling from a year ago? I mean, I don't
want to bashroom my carts here anything like that, but
you could clearly see the difference between his play calling
and shot he's play calling and the other thing. I
wanted to ask you, have you heard any whisperers or
any rumors or anything about Jerry Jones possibly making some
kind of a trade on an impact defensive player, and

(32:54):
I'll let you go.

Speaker 2 (32:55):
Thanks for taking my call, all right, I haven't heard
that yet. I mean, I mean, they're obviously on the
table that they can do that, but you know, it's
it's also one of those things where you kind of
want to see what you are still in, what what
you need? You know, what are you what are you missing?
You know you have Schamarrow James. Now that's playing something linebackers,

(33:17):
so you kind of want to see a little bit
more what you have there. And then over shown will
be back defensive end pass rush. I mean that that
would always be there that you know, they would probably
always I think I think you kind of know what
you're going to get with these guys used to may
continue to get better and Sam Williams and all that.
But you know, if that if that position opened up

(33:39):
as a possible trade to kind of take them over
the top. Sure, but but yeah, going back to your
question or just your comment about the play calling, Yeah,
the play calling has been really good and and I
I just think it stems all from the running game.
I really do. I believe that you have to respect it.
You the safeties have to come up, you have to

(33:59):
respect and now the play action is working more than
it's ever worked before. And that's why Ferguson is catching
the ball that he's catching. How many times have you
seen him just play action, rolls out to the side,
makes the catch six yards, seven yards, Maybe he breaks
it up field for a little bit for ten or eleven,
but I thought, you know, that was big.

Speaker 5 (34:19):
You know.

Speaker 2 (34:19):
Another key play in the game, and I put this
in my five plays, was on the touchdown drive in
the second quarter, early second quarters, three to three. The
Cowboys are driving. It's third and ten and they throw
a little swing out to It was a dump off
really because he was trying to get down the field
deck with down the field, but he dumped it off
to Tulipke did not look like he was going to

(34:41):
get ten yards, but he went straight north and got
ten exactly moved the chains. That was a really big play.
Then that opened up even more for the offense to
go down and they ended up taking the lead on
their first touchdown. I thought that was a big play
in the game because it's still early, it's three to three.
You know, you're trying to trying to move the ball
and they would have had to punt it back, and

(35:03):
that that one was the play that kind of got
him going here, let's go to break here one more
time on Cowboys storyline. Will be right back after this.

KC in La on the line. KC, what's up?

Speaker 19 (36:57):
Hey A And a happy victory Monday. You know it's
just the Jets, but I don't care about that. It
was a good win. I love this physical brand of
football the Boys are playing. And how about Clayton Adams. Man,
this run game is looking sweet, and it's just I
don't remember the last time we had a team that

(37:19):
was so physical. It's not finess, it's power of football
and I'm loving it. And some of these young guys
on defense are starting to come round. So it just
feels good to feel good on a Monday.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
Zach, I love it. I feel that's well said. Thank you, Casey.
You know I have a point about the Clayton Adams
and this is the second time I've written his name
down here. You guys are talking about him this to me,
and I said this on I do a hit on
the radio one O five three of the fan in Dows.
I said that this morning, and I'll say it again.
This is another example where you know, we love to

(37:53):
judge the moves that are made in the draft and
free agency. And this guy they got him, he's washed up.
He's not any good. He wasn't good at this team
or this team. But remember that coaches have visions for players.
And when Clayton Adams stood up there in his very
first press conference and said, I'm going to be We're
going to be a violent running team. Our offensive linee

(38:15):
is going to be it's gonna be violent. That's the
way we're gonna run, and we are going to play
smash mouth football. Okay, that being said, who do you
want to be your running back? Well? How about this
guy right here, Javonte Williams. He had an injury two
years ago. I don't know if Denver used them the
right way. I'm not saying all that, just I know
the vision I have for him, and when he comes in,

(38:37):
this is how I want to use I need a
back like that, and that's what we're seeing. I mean,
he is the perfect back for what they want to do.
No offense to Rico Daddle. They could have resigned him,
but that's not the back that they wanted. They wanted
a different back, And I think of the thousand yards
you know, probably priced Rico out for what they were

(38:58):
trying to do. Obviously, they play the Panthers this week.
Credit to him two hundred yard or two oh six rushing?
You kidding me? I mean like that? That what? What
an outstanding performance for him? And they got to look
it up. I don't know how many two hundred yard
rushers there's ever been in the NFL for an undrafted player.
I don't I don't know. I'm it might have happened,

(39:20):
but I have not seen that before. And you know,
he's ready. I know he said Cowboys better buckle up,
and you know, I don't know if he's talking smack.
I mean, he's kind of getting himself ready to go.
But is he the starter?

Speaker 5 (39:32):
You know?

Speaker 2 (39:32):
I mean like Juba Hubbard I believe was the running
back there and he and he filled in for him,
and the Dolphins have not been great against the runs,
so that that is, you know, they took advantage of that.
That's gonna be a huge matchup though. But yeah, very
ironic that the Cowboys face the Panthers next. Javonte Williams
running running great, and then Rico o'dweill obviously coming off

(39:53):
of two hundred yard games. So that's gonna probably be
the storyline of the game going into this one next week.
All right, let's go to Chris in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Speaker 6 (40:04):
Chris's had a good week and often had a good weekend.
Took those eleven and twelve year old boys to their
first game.

Speaker 11 (40:12):
Some Cowboys beat the Jets.

Speaker 6 (40:14):
My voice was a little horse because you know what
I mean, yelling at the stadium. They had a fantastic time.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
All Right, that's awesome, glad they Yeah, Yeah, that's that's
a that's a cool experience, especially a fun game like
that where a lot of big plays were made all
over the place.

Speaker 5 (40:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (40:34):
I was telling, uh, Chris, Chris when he answered the
call that at the end of the game, Trevon Diggs
come on the sidelin slap in everybody's hand. My one
boy like squeezed his way down in the front row
and had his hand out and he got his hand
slap by Trayvon Diggs. And I've never seen the kids
smile so much in his life. It was outstanding.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
That's awesome, and yeah, there's nothing like it. And I
could remember, like I remember that experience for me. I
was six and I remember Tony door Set giving me
that that okay with the three like okay, I was
yelling at him and he gave me that like okay
sign or what's whatever? And I'll never forget that. And

(41:10):
you know, I was six years old, so that was cool.

Speaker 15 (41:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (41:15):
I just want to give a shout out to my
boy Finoy stepping up big time yesterday.

Speaker 2 (41:21):
Man that I know, I'm not supposed to say this.
I mean, because it was a different game and all that.
If he would have scored a touchdown or two. I mean,
it had Miles Austin vibes to it, it really did.
I mean, like I guess they both were nineteen, I guess,
but uh, it's just the way he took advantage of

(41:42):
the opportunity and broke tackles and just played physical with
speed that you know, that was just that. I know
he didn't score. It's not the same breakout thing, but
but very similar to the point where he had a
great game. And now you have to wonder, hm, like
he he's gonna be playing more. I mean, he has

(42:02):
to be playing more now, all right, I agree? One, Okay, Well,
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the uh for
the call. Let's keep it, keep it going here, Let's
go to G in Atlanta.

Speaker 11 (42:18):
G what's going on? Nick? Well, Man, I ain't nothing.
My brother ain't nothing. Man happy on this victory Monday.

Speaker 2 (42:29):
First time caller. Yes sir, yes sir, we go, here
we go.

Speaker 5 (42:34):
Here we go.

Speaker 2 (42:34):
All Scott brings some energy. I like it.

Speaker 11 (42:38):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, man, I'm pumped up.

Speaker 16 (42:40):
Man.

Speaker 11 (42:40):
Should be got a good win yesterday after people had
said we would go to lose. We's gonna give up
one hundred and eighty yards to to justin fields and rushing,
and you know, they pick up the lose and then
we win that It's like, well, we should have won.
I just you know, look here, I like what we're doing.
I like the a reckon that we're going in. You

(43:03):
I know you, you are like me.

Speaker 7 (43:05):
I believe more victory.

Speaker 11 (43:07):
I think last week we were supposed to lose the
Green Bay and we we showed up and played a
great game on what side of the ball. Yeah, I
think that kind of it rolled over into this game
where normally, you know, we we we will play down
to the level our competition. But I don't think we did. Man,

(43:27):
So I give a big shout out to to CoA. Sadi,
the offensive line, who we had four new starters in there.
That that's that's a great win. And then the defense
showed up and put pressure on them. Uh that that
that's amazing. I thought we did a great job.

Speaker 10 (43:44):
And I'm taking excite of the man.

Speaker 11 (43:45):
I'm excited for what we're doing.

Speaker 2 (43:47):
Yeah, it was, it was, you know, it was a
really big credit. Thanks for the call. Gee, really big
credit to the coaching staff and and you know, I'm
a believer of the moral victory part and or you know,
whatever it is to keep your morale high. The interesting
thing about the tie was most of the guys say

(44:08):
that it felt like a loss, like a missed opportunity,
because they had chances to win that game against against
Green Bay and it felt like, you know, it felt
like the Packers had to kind of settle for the
tie when the Cowboys were really thinking they got this
to win. So when it didn't happen like that, it
was a little bit more disappointment. So whatever it is

(44:30):
that they took to the field this week, and maybe
the Jets were just the perfect opponent for them. Uh,
They're they're certainly reeling they've got good They've got some
good players. But you know, I, you know, we were
I'm pulling for Aaron Glenn. I mean, I have no
reason not to. You know, I like I remember him
as a player here. I liked him, and I hope

(44:50):
he does well. You know, he's he's a young coach.
I mean there were some times where I just I
just disagreed with a few things that he did in
the game, and you got to learn it from that.
I mean, here's another play. It's first drive of the
game and Justin Fields runs to the five yard line
on second down from the sixth five yards to the one.

(45:11):
It's going to be third and goal from the one.
Cowboys line up off sides, so they take the penalty,
which is half the distance to the goal. So now
it's second and three from the three, second goal from
the three instead of third and goal from the one.
And then Solomon Thomas makes a huge play tackle for loss.
Now it's third and six. They don't get the third down.
They kick a field goal as big as Justin Field

(45:34):
is the ball at the one, Breise Hall or him
two times. I don't think the Cowboys are stopping that.
I think that's a touchdown. I get it's third down,
third down from the one, but the way that the
Toasch pushes and we saw justin field to do it
later on and they didn't stop him. So I thought
that was a missed opportunity for the Jets. I think
they made a mistake with that call, thinking well, I

(45:56):
got three downs for three yards. I don't know, you know,
if that was the case, then they would go for
two all the time, if it was so easy to
score from there. I think scoring from the one on
two plays was the smarter play. We set it up
in the press box at the time. It turned out
to be a tough one for them. All right, let's
go to Dylan in Northport, Florida. He will be our

(46:17):
last caller.

Speaker 6 (46:19):
Heynik.

Speaker 20 (46:19):
I'll go quick here, man, you gotta get out of
there so super fast. I'm calling Clayton, Adams, Connor, Riley,
and Schottenheimer. They're the mcguiver staff because the offensive line
is being called together by glue and duct tape and
they're still dominating getting it done. So that's that's just
a drastic change from seasons past where injuries derailed everything.
Awesome to see Dak's new nickname. I'm calling him twenty

(46:41):
twenty because he's just seeing everything on the field.

Speaker 2 (46:44):
No, no, no, no emotion, no no, he says, no to that.
Please don't say anything twenty twenty with him. It's the
worst year, he says, because of the injuries. Somebody asked
him and he was like no, no, no, no.

Speaker 20 (46:56):
So okay, I'll call him Vision after the Superhero.

Speaker 9 (46:59):
Then let's something.

Speaker 2 (47:01):
Else because he has he doesn't want anything to do
with twenty twenty.

Speaker 20 (47:04):
I didn't even think of that. Yeah, hysterical. And then
this real quick man Schamar James did. I said, last
back calls, and I said, we got to get playmakers
out there, guys that can fly around. You have fifteen
tackles and it's awesome seer linebackers tackling after the catch.
That was a huge difference in this game.

Speaker 2 (47:17):
Yeah, they did, they did tackle. Well, you know you're
right about that, all right, Dylan, thanks for the call.
Dak is seeing it really well. I mean the offense
of the coaches are calling the plays where you know
the ball can get out quickly. I still I think
I think it all stims from are just a running game,
which gives them balance that's what they have. They have

(47:39):
balance and and I know that that's one of the
things that Schottenheimer wanted to do with when you know,
designing the offense was these looks look like runs and passes.
And I think that's one of the criticism that we
heard from McCarthy's offense was that, you know, when it
was a pass, it looked like a pass. Was a run,
it looked like a run. And that's something that that

(47:59):
I think we're seeing a lot more of that that
it's it's just tougher to disguise, and you can do
that when you play action and you run. So you know,
great call, I mean a great, great day of calls,
you guys. Fourteen calls is a lot, at least three
maybe four. Mentioning the offensive coordinator, Clayton's Adams, you know,
really big moment for him because they played the type

(48:22):
of game that that he wanted to play. Be physical,
run the football. When it's time to take your shot,
take your shot. And it all worked and they you know,
they beat a struggling team, but they did what they're
supposed to do in a game like that and dominate,
and they did. And now they'll go to Carolina who
looks like a better team than they've you know, seen

(48:43):
before up in Carolina. But you know, we'll see, we'll
see what happens. Should be a lot of fun. But
we'll talk about it tomorrow on Cowboys Storyline for Chris
Beam Nick eaven See then.
