Speaker 2 (00:12):
Cowboys. This is Cowboys Storyline, brought you by Gillette, the
official razor of the Dallas Cowboys. Here's Nick Eatman.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (00:29):
Welcome to Cowboys Storyline presented by Gillette. I am Nick Eatman.
It is time to talk Cowboys and New York Giants.
As we turned the page to the second week of
the season, Cowboys or win one tough loss against the Eagles,
a chance to win that game up there in Philly.
Everything everyone sees that knows that, yes, there's some excitement
(00:52):
about this team. Even though there's been one game, one loss.
I still think that the expectations are are still high
for this team, especially after that that first game, and
when you look at the other games around the league
and there's a few teams with some heartbreak. We saw
it in the Monday night game with the with the
Bears and the Vikings. We saw it Friday with it
(01:14):
with the Chiefs and the Chargers. There's some teams that
that we we thought were going to be, you know,
maybe have better starts to the season, and then they did.
So you can't tell a lot about Week one, but
it's the start, and with anything, well that's that's how
we we you know, we start to evaluate things. But
I think that this is a big one. I always
talk about Cowboys and and the second game of the season,
(01:35):
and I think this one will be really big for
the Cowboys to figure out how to get back on,
you know, ondo the winning track and to win a
division game.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
You got it.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
You can't you can't get you know, ten wins, eleven
wins if you don't get the first one. So this
is a big one. All right, let's get to the
phone lines here. We know this show works. We're gonna
start with Kyle. He's in Tacoma, Washington. Kyle, what's up, man?
Speaker 3 (01:58):
How good? How are you?
Speaker 5 (02:00):
It's been a minute, man, I remember talking. I've been
seven or eight years, but yeah, I'm in the United
States Air Force up in tub of Washington. I just
wanted to ask you a quick question. I know I
was told to be quick. Was it more exciting to
see Schottenheimer's play calling or to see how Dak performed
coming off with his injuries?
Speaker 4 (02:19):
I think that's a great question, and we appreciate you
have another you have anything else.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
Kyle, Oh yeah, real quick one. Do you think that?
Do you think the Blue is going to be active
this week?
Speaker 3 (02:31):
Okay, I do, Actually I think he will. Kyle.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Thanks for the call, Appreciate your service. Uh and and
you know, keep calling when you get a chance. Good
to hear from you. I think Jayden Blue will be active.
I think they'll have to figure out some things with him.
He's gonna have to Schatenheimer said it Monday that you know,
some sometimes you have a setback in the week, and
he said, I'm not saying he did, but he did
(02:59):
mention that when.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
He was asked about him.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
So maybe maybe there was something happened in practice. You know,
it's easy to say, well, you know, he scores that
touchdown that Miles Sanders didn't score, but maybe he doesn't
you know, maybe he doesn't even even find the right hole.
Maybe maybe he doesn't get the blitz pick up that
Miles Sanders got a couple of plays earlier than that
(03:21):
was a really nice place. So you know, I'm running
backs just an interesting situation for me because I look
at it like, yeah, you know, you'd like to see
more speed out of Miles Sanders there, but but you know,
when we haven't been seeing a lot of forty nine
yard runs around here, so let's let's not just bench
the guy that got you a forty nine yard run
when the last one to do it was Tony Pollard
(03:43):
like five years ago. So if he's ready, I think
I think he'll he'll play now. Your first question was
what was more impressive Schottenhammer's play calling or DAC's execution,
And I think they go hand in hand. I don't
think it's just either or I think I think the
play calling fits to what Dak's trying to do and
(04:04):
the Dak's style of play.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
But I I.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Guess I would say Schottenheimer's play calling just because I
liked how aggressive it was. There were some times where
I kind of I thought, you know, maybe managing the
clock there in the end of the half could have
been done differently. But all in all, I think both
of That's a great question because they're both true, and
I do think that, like I said, I think they
go hand in hand. Brian in Kansas City's next, Brian,
(04:32):
what's up?
Speaker 6 (04:33):
Good morning, sir, How are you good? How are you
I'm doing great man, Thank you? Hey, And I wanted
to just tell you I'm keeping my eyes open. I
haven't seen anything yet, but appreciated the message on that.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Okay, So.
Speaker 6 (04:48):
I just wanted to say so for two things. One,
what thing surprised you the most? And then for coming
up this week, maybe it's the one we just talked about.
Thing would you want to see done differently going into
this week? So the thing that surprised me the most
I watched in All twenty two for the very first
time in my life this week because watching the game live,
(05:12):
I thought Tyler Geiton had a terrible pass protection game,
and according to PFF, he didn't have a very good game.
But when I watched the All twenty two and I
only watched him nothing else, it wasn't as bad as
I thought when I watched it live. He was a
little bit better than what I thought I saw when
(05:32):
I watched it live, So that that surprised me. And
then going forward, I was just shocked that, you know,
for next week, I just hoped to see Blue on
the field.
Speaker 7 (05:41):
Goo.
Speaker 6 (05:42):
I just wondered what you thought about, you know, did
anything surprise you that you didn't know about the team already?
And Dighton was mine, And what would you want to
see done different, and I'll let you go.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Thank you er, thank you.
Speaker 8 (05:55):
Well.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
The surprising stuff for me was, I mean seeing Cede
Lamb dropped the ball a few times. I mean that
that was surprising, especially in clutch moments of the game.
We hadn't seen that a lot, so that that was
a surprising part. Now you're talking about things like you know, alignment,
I guess, or you know, stuff that we weren't expecting.
(06:16):
But I thought, you know, Trayvon Diggs I thought played
a really really good game. I thought the coverage overall
was good because the pass rush wasn't there early and
it was there later on in the game, but early
it really wasn't there. But I thought that they still
did it a really nice job. So I think, you know,
we said it the other day in this show that
that I do believe that when Diggs is fully healthy
(06:37):
and it looks like he's getting there, and and then
you've got Deron Bland and Kyrie Elam, it's pretty good.
It's pretty good trio of corners and then look some
veteran safeties as well. So so I think the secondary
can be good if the pass rush continues to get
better and they you know, dial up some more some
more pressure. Then I think you have a great combination
(06:59):
there on defense. But surprising, you know, I've just I
was surprised to see Trayvon play so well. I was
surprised to see the drops by CD, and you know,
and I wasn't really surprised that we saw Turpin earlier.
Maybe maybe I thought we might see him a little
bit more later. All right, let's go to Albert in Tucson, Arizona.
Speaker 7 (07:19):
Good morning, Good morning, Nick. How are you, my brother?
Speaker 3 (07:21):
How are you doing?
Speaker 7 (07:23):
It's another beautiful day out here, you know, I just
I'm gonna make it, try to make it as quick
as I can. I guess it's a question or I
guess it's a question when do you think the team itself?
And I don't know if it comes from management or
(07:44):
or or trickles down. Uh, we're going to see some
starters during the preseason that way. I mean, there's nothing
like I know it's preseason, but there's nothing like in
game experience, right like the game moves semi as fast
as it would in a regular game. I mean, the
(08:07):
players need to see the lights, the people, the you know,
the other player of other opponents moving fast. Uh, you know,
there's only so much that the practice and practicing against
your own can do. So don't do you think there's
a benefit.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
No, no, no, I really don't. I mean, okay, okay,
hold on, let me let me change them. Is there
a benefit to playing? Sure, there's a benefit. It doesn't
to me, it doesn't. It doesn't even come close to
the risk of losing a player because like.
Speaker 7 (08:44):
The DOUBLET sword right in.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
My opinion, because how long is your rust? I mean, now,
who were talking about the offense? No offense looked like that.
They played a game three days ago. I mean you
know what I mean, like the way the offense came out. Now,
the defense, sure, you know, may be looked a little
a little rusty. I just don't think playing a preseason
game two weeks before that game is going to change
(09:09):
the rust factor.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
I maybe a little bit. But you would be sick.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
If if if a guy got hurt and towards a
cl and he was out for the season just so
he could he could knock off the rust a little
bit earlier than maybe a series or two, because that's
all it takes is a few series. But an injury
can be the entire season. That to me, the risk
reported just it just isn't there. You know, especially with
(09:34):
how much money these these guys are are are getting
paid and then the backup is getting paid, you know,
significantly less. The drop off is just so intense that
I just I just can't see them the justification there.
This is my opinion. Now, I'm I mean, and you're
not wrong. You're not the only one that thinks this way.
(09:54):
I just I've seen players get hurt in the preseason
and it's just like, for what you know, oh yeah.
Speaker 7 (10:01):
Yeah, I see the ticker you know that you know
in some pieces and games. That's why I was maybe
even thinking like game management to say, hey, you know
you're in for a series, you're in for a quarter.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Yeah you know, you know.
Speaker 7 (10:11):
Certain players, not everybody, but you know, I think it
would have benefit. But all right, right, I mean it
makes sense.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
It's just my opinion on it.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
I didn't hate seeing Tyler Booker when you know, he
was a starter, He's going to be out there, he
played a little bit. I didn't hate to see that.
H didn't seem like a big risk, you know for that.
But overall, I'm just I'm not a big fan of it.
All right, let's take a break here on Cowboys storyline.
We'll be right back after this.

All right, welcome back to Cowboys storyline presented by Jillette.
Let's get right back to the phone lines here. We're
(12:40):
talking Cowboys, giants, maybe a little bit of Cowboys Eagles,
whatever you want to talk about. Lester in Lakeville Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
What's up? How are you doing? Man?
Speaker 12 (12:51):
And I'm doing good man. I just want to make
a comp First of all, I want to say this.
I know that there's no moral victories. I just wanted
to make a comment on the offensive line. You know,
I'm the offense and the defensive line guy. I thought
the offensive line played really well. I like a lot
of the blocking schemes that I haven't really seen as
(13:13):
much of in the last few years, like the trap
blocking and things of that nature. So what do you
think of that? Nick?
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Yeah, I thought I thought the uh.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
I did like what I saw from the offensive line,
especially around the goal line. It's been tough to just
get in and and and run the ball in for
a touchdown at the one now Jalen Carter not being
out there that that helped. I mean, there's no doubt
about that. Let's not forget that parted. And they're they're
(13:43):
gonna face a better defensive tackle this week than they
did last week. Because you can say, you know, some
people might even say Dexter Lawrence is better than Jalen Carter.
He's been he's been better, you know, in his career
is a lot longer. But he's a he's a great
defensive tackle, so he's really good, and I doubt he's
going to be just you know, kicked out of the
(14:03):
game before it even starts, So.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Another big challenge.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
But I did like the way that they ran the
ball in the middle, and you know, I still think
that there's there's gonna be you know, more things to
see what we saw it. Also on the running on
the outside, I mean, you know that that toss pitch
to uh Sanders got fifty yards you know, down the field.
So I thought the blocking was good inside and outside,
(14:27):
and that's a that's a good start. All right, Let's
go to Sebastian. He's in Savannah, Georgia.
Speaker 13 (14:34):
Good morning, sir. I'm doing well, and it's always looks
like you're doing well. I'm gonna get right to the
twenty five seconds. Got to report from the team. We're
facing probably one of the best defensive lines in the
league and one of the worst secondaries. Their secondary gets
turned around and cooked worse than anyone else in the league.
So we should have a lot of success on the outside. Unfortunately,
I do have one player on our team who has
(14:55):
been lacking and been lacking for a long time. I
would like to see more from Jayalen Tobert needs to hit,
for him to hit at least a Terrence William or
a Michael Gallup level. In his third or fourth year.
At this point, he's been a disappointment. But we should
be able to move the ball against him.
Speaker 8 (15:09):
Well.
Speaker 13 (15:09):
If we open up like we did this past week,
we should win this game, no problem. But this game
is a necessity. Do not let those guys come in
here and surprise you.
Speaker 14 (15:17):
You have to win.
Speaker 13 (15:19):
You have a great day, I'll hang up.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
With Listen, all right, appreciate it. Yeah, it's a must win.
I mean, there's there's no doubt about it. This is
this is a must win, must win if you want
to be a team that can compete for the playoffs.
Because the Giants I don't think. I don't think that
they're that team. And uh, you know, I think if
you if you come in and lose this game, then
I think that that's what we kind of know what
(15:40):
this team will be. They'll be maybe competitive against some
but you can't be a team that plays to the
level of the competition.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
You just you just can't.
Speaker 4 (15:48):
It's nice to rise up to it, but it's terrible
when you when you play down to it. And that's
what I think this is. Remember this is only we're
only one week into this. We think this. We think
the Eagles are great like they were last year and
they won the Super Bowl. So going to Philly and
almost winning that game with a chance to win is
a step in the right direction. That's what we think now,
(16:09):
you know. And we think the Giants aren't that good
and they didn't play very well against Washington, who we
think is good. So again, all of this stuff is
just kind of what we think. All we have to
go off of is from last year. But there's no
doubt about it. You can't be going to in the
division start the year. So this this is a big
win for the Cowboys to get. They've got to go
get this game. And you're right that the defensive line
(16:30):
is is stout, you know, and and they're gonna get
better and better that they got young pass rushers, they
got some good defensive linemen and Lawrence. But but I
still think, like you said, they can get the ball
out on the perimeter, so getting it blocked up front
is key. You mentioned Jalen Tolbert. You know, I just
I think he's the fourth receivering option. So if it's
(16:51):
a disappointment, sure, but I mean because you thought after
you know, this is his fourth year, that you know
he would be you know, a better option there. But
you know, Turpin does a little bit more than obviously
pickings on CD as well. All right, let's go to
Chris Saratoga Springs.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
New York.
Speaker 15 (17:07):
Hey, Nick, how are you good?
Speaker 3 (17:09):
How are you doing?
Speaker 15 (17:10):
Not too bad? What position always kills the Giants offensively?
Speaker 6 (17:14):
For us uh in the past?
Speaker 15 (17:19):
Quarterback that and I think tight end Jason Witten brings
back memories of always crushing the Giants. We need to
get more production out of our tight ends in the
middle of the field, and I think khand Lemky could
be involved in that too. Within the passing game. We
just gave him a nice little contract. I think we
should use him a little bit more as well. But
I really think we need to get our tight ends
(17:40):
involved and they need to make an impact in this
game coming up against the Giants.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
Yeah, I feel like I've seen that too, where you know,
whether it be Ferguson or Schoonmaker or whoever, right down
the scene and that's that's there. I mean, it was there.
You know, he threw it to span Ford down the scene.
He threw it to Schoonmaker there. Obviously it's a very
ferguson and almost got killed on the play. But but
you know we did see that, so uh yeah, something
(18:05):
to something to look at those tight ends. Uh let's
see if I can get Lewis and Langston Oklahoma before break.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
Lewis, what's going on this morning?
Speaker 16 (18:13):
I ain't gonna hold you too long.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
All right, appreciate it.
Speaker 16 (18:16):
I just was going to ask you, if you had
to upgrade one position now after watching one game, what
would you go with it? Because me personally, I don't
mind the edition of Kenny Clark, and I was wondering
if we wanted to add another big body and I
don't Mizi's on the bench or whatever he is whatever,
But add another piece like that and maybe another d
(18:40):
N if there's somebody out there, then I'll be perfectly happy.
But like I said, i'll talk more later.
Speaker 17 (18:44):
I'll see what.
Speaker 12 (18:45):
I'll listen to you.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
I appreciate it. You know, that's that's a good question.
I mean, I mean, if you could just upgrade them, Yeah,
you wouldn't mind upgrading a lot of positions. But you know,
as for like player to player, I don't know. I
I think I think, you know, I'd like to see
(19:07):
more production there. I mean, I think I think defensive
end is probably the answer, you know, because you lost
Michael Parsons, so they're really not overthink this. It's it's
defensive end because Faller and and Sam Williams and Azeraku
they're not Michael Parsons. So that that's the answer. That's
the one you would like to to to upgrade. Maybe
you can figure out different ways to do it. But
I think it's a good question. There's everybody you know
(19:28):
on the team you'd like to get a little bit
more production from. But if you could just add a
player in, it would probably have to be a pass
rusher for me. So, uh, because you just lost one,
you lost one of the best ones in the game.
Let's take our another second break here on Cowboys storyline.
Speaker 3 (19:43):

(21:17):
through the first two segments there doing that for TV purposes.
Appreciate you guys for being quick. I know sometimes you
had more things to say, and Chris back there maybe
had to cut you off this part of it. That's
what Tuesday on the storyline is. We appreciate you understanding.
That doesn't mean the next guys that call him can
go crazy. We'll keep this thing moving at a nice pace.
(21:40):
Let's start this segment with Sergeant Sue. He's in Fort Worth.
Speaker 20 (21:44):
Eddie's everybody good, buddy here?
Speaker 3 (21:46):
Are you good?
Speaker 8 (21:47):
But good?
Speaker 12 (21:47):
I'll keep it quick.
Speaker 20 (21:49):
We're rolling pretty quick. So yeah, man, I'm looking forward
to this week. I'm hoping that we see more of
Leofile on defense and I thought that the limited opportunities
that he did get, he shined. And I understand that,
you know, you got to have, you know, the guys
who you brought in. You got to you know, give
him a look and everything like that. But I'm hoping
that Lea fal did enough last week and continued to
(22:09):
do enough this week as shot He always mentioned consistency
to get more more playing time. And I just want
to answer. I think it was Kyle who asked it
may have been the first the first caller about whether
I was more or we were more excited about Dak
or the play calling a Shoty, And I want to
answer that just really quickly. Yeah, I'm more. I'm more
excited about the play calling a shoty Dak. We've seen
him come back from injury. And the thing that keeps
(22:30):
me excited about the play calling with Shoty is I
don't think he's done yet.
Speaker 12 (22:33):
Brother.
Speaker 21 (22:33):
I think he's got a lot.
Speaker 20 (22:34):
More on that back.
Speaker 12 (22:35):
So I'm really looking forward to it.
Speaker 20 (22:36):
Man, thanks so much for taking.
Speaker 4 (22:37):
My call, and uh, you guys win all right, Thank
you appreciate that. Yeah, I mean that's a good point.
You know, he's got more to it as well. I
mean I thought it was a good question just because
I do like what I saw from from Dak, and
the ball placement was was good, and the being, you know,
being the football player and getting out of sacks and
being you know, showing that upper body strength and then
(22:57):
delivering you know, the ball on time and you know,
when it's time to throw it away, throw it away,
you know, or throw it in complete pass. I thought,
I thought you did a nice job. Now again, though,
let's let's let's call it what it is. I mean,
they didn't score a point in the second half, so
they part of it was, you know, a fumble down
there inside the ten. They probably would have scored at
(23:17):
least a field goal there. But that's that's that's part
of the offense. You know, they they didn't they didn't score.
There's some drops. It's not all on deck. It's very
rare that you have a game where you know it's
a close game and and your your offense does not
score in the second half, and you're really not blaming
the quarterback, you know, and so that that's rare, especially
(23:38):
around here because quarterback takes a lot of blame. But
that that's that's what it was. I think that's you know, exciting, uh.
But this is the opportunity to build off that when
when you got the Giants coming up this week and
and you know, we said several times you got to
get him blocked, get it blocked up front, and it
should be a good day for that for that offense.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
All right, Carolina is next.
Speaker 4 (23:58):
Carolina's driving through Kansas. Carolina hear me, Yeah, I can
hear you. Man, How you doing?
Speaker 14 (24:08):
I'm driving through Chans.
Speaker 13 (24:08):
I don't know what's going on.
Speaker 14 (24:09):
My hands did, but I got you today.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
Here you go, Here you go, don't.
Speaker 14 (24:16):
I'm in the country. I don't buy the care.
Speaker 3 (24:19):
You got a different route, you know.
Speaker 4 (24:21):
Usually it's like through Texas and Louisiana and all that.
Speaker 3 (24:24):
They got you going a little bit north.
Speaker 14 (24:26):
No, man, I actually could I quit for that job now?
I'm older operating, Okay, I'm just I'm driving across the
whole world. Man, I'm everywhere.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
All right, we'll good what.
Speaker 14 (24:39):
That's what my schedule get all off? And I did
miss and calling in, but I got time today.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
All right. Well still, let's make it quick if we can.
What you got for me?
Speaker 22 (24:48):
All right?
Speaker 14 (24:49):
Sureley, you know I miss I missed calling in about
the game, man, wonderful game. Like I said, really you
kind of quick with a small thame. I think we're
heading in the right now, racing. I'm just cheerios is
When when did you try the breaking? When did you
give him a shot?
Speaker 8 (25:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 14 (25:07):
Because I think I think you got more speed to
schame PSD. I'm just concern also with how are they're
going to figure out to take the what do you
call it, beef position player? Take the people lies speaking
and CD at the same the same time, like I spell,
(25:28):
he should have got more targets in that game.
Speaker 4 (25:30):
Yeah, well, and I bet he thinks the same thing.
And I'm you know, and a lot of people do.
But but you know, you have anything else, Carolina, We'll
move it on.
Speaker 14 (25:42):
Oh can't wait? Breaks off the giants. They can't see
the offense and touchdown, so that shouldn't be too hard cowboys.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
All right, all right, thanks for the call, you know,
I I that's always the tough part when you when
you've got too good receivers or any any you know,
multiple weapon offense. Where what about this guy? What about
this guy? I mean, you know, I think CD is
the guy that that gets the money, and he's the
one that that has been the playmaker.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
And if he catches those balls and they go down
there and win that game.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
I mean, I don't think anyone's really talking about that now,
you know. I'm sure there were some times where pickets
was open and and and they'll they'll still work through that.
You know, CD and Dack have played several games together
and and that was the first one obviously with Pickens.
So I think he'll be it'll be fine. I think
he'll he'll he'll get going, he'll get involved.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
You know, if c D.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
He kept making plays, you know, he kept getting open
and then you know, and the ball was there for
him to do that. I think Pickens will will be
a factor there, maybe even as early as this week.
And the thing about Blue, yeah, this could be a
good game for that maybe to to get him out there.
Just remember there's other things about the football, you know,
(27:01):
there's there's more to the position than that. There was
a play where Miles Sanders made where I believe I
know they were going right to left. I believe that
was third quarter, could have been second quarter, but where
Sanders Sanders was kind of had his eyes focused in
(27:21):
the middle of the line as blitz pick up.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
He was cheating towards the middle.
Speaker 4 (27:24):
Then all of a sudden he caught the defensive end
rushing off the edge. I think it was a blitzing linebacker,
and he darted up there and made the play and
it was a really nice blitz pick up. That's the
recognition that veterans see. If Blue can do that and
pick that up and be a willing blocker, you don't
have to be tenacious.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
You just get in there.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
Pollard wasn't you know. It didn't knock people to the ground,
but he he made sure that, you know, he stuck
his nose in there. If Blue can do that, then
I think running the ball and hanging on to it
and pass catching and all that, it should be fine.
I would imagine he's probably ready to play this week.
So we'll see how they how they do the roster.
There Rick in Massachusetts next his next Rick?
Speaker 3 (28:05):
What's up? Hi?
Speaker 8 (28:06):
Nick?
Speaker 21 (28:06):
How you doing good?
Speaker 3 (28:07):
Buddy? How are you all right?
Speaker 21 (28:11):
Quick score of the thirty to ten Cowboys and a
couple of things. Anything word on was it winfree?
Speaker 3 (28:21):
Yeah? He's on I R. Yeah, they moved him to
injured reserve yesterday.
Speaker 21 (28:25):
So I only saw a quick thing on it, and
I was from one of the podcasters. I wasn't sure.
Speaker 4 (28:33):
So yeah, he's on injured reserve, so he'll be out
at least four games.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
Probably can come back after the Jets game.
Speaker 21 (28:42):
Yeah, I'm with everybody else people, I would like to
see more of besides Blue is Leo Fio in Houston,
we get some time, so I thank Houston did well.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
Yeah, so yeah, he's always done a nice job. I mean,
like he's kind of the surprise guy that they added.
But he he did a he did a good job.
You know, he played at the UFL last year and
he you know, got in there towards the end of
the game, made a tackle for lost. That was a
pretty big play in the game. So if they were
to come back and won that, I mean, that was
(29:17):
gonna be one of my key plays there, just because
it stops the momentum and anytime you get the five
yard loss on first down that that was big. But
I'm with you on Leah Foul. I thought the linebackers
looked a little like a step slow. But the Eagles
will do that to you. That's kind of what you know,
going up against Hurts and and Barkley, and there's so
(29:39):
much of that RPO stuff that that there's just so
much hesitation there that they'll do that to you. But
Lea Foul I think has a little bit more of
that speed. They certainly missover shown speed there. But but
you know, Samborn and Clark and Murray just they got
to the football, but maybe not as quickly as you
wanted him to. So we'll see what happens here in
(30:02):
this next game. It changes a lot, you know, with
with going up against Hurts Barkley and then going now
going against Russell Wilson and I can't even tell you
right now who the Giants have. Is it Tracy maybe
running back? But but it's not Saquon Barkley anymore. And
it could have been all right, let's go to Zach
in Atlanta.
Speaker 17 (30:23):
Hey, what's up? Nick? And Frisco?
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Are you doing?
Speaker 17 (30:27):
I'm great, man, Hey, I was the first call on
that Friday hangover. I what I'll say last thought on
the Eagles game from me going into the game, you
were like, hey, you know, if we can keep it
single digit spread, that'd be nice. And then you get
in the game situation and like, my sakeaway is like, man,
(30:47):
you got to win that game, Like you got to
find a way to win. The chances were there. So
that's where the that's where the disappointment is. But I'm
not discouraged. I thought the line played pretty well, even
with Jalen Carter out they still have a pretty good
deal line Tyler Gotton looked good. So I think this
coming week. Yeah, we've talked about it already. You know,
the Giants have everybody on d line who can wreck
(31:11):
a game, so this will be a fun test. I
do think the Cowboys win twenty seven thirteen, we'll call
it that. And then you know, during the season, my
thing is going to be hey, who played for both teams?
And I want to see any stories you have like
I did last year. So Dwayne Harris, any stories on
(31:32):
Dwayne Harris And with that, I'll let you go.
Speaker 22 (31:35):
Man.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
Yeah, it's not a good one. Thanks, Zach, it's not
a good story. I remember see was it twenty fifteen?
I believe it was the season when he played with
the Giants his first year he played with the Cowboys,
moved over to the Giants, and I want to say
it was twenty fifteen and going down to the field,
the Cowboys had just scored a touchdown just going to
(31:57):
going down and with about I don't know, four or
five minutes to go in the game to tie the game,
and so we're walking onto the field and right when
you walk on the field, there's a restroom right there,
and I'm like, oh, I'm gonna go to the restroom
really quick.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
Go to the restroom. You can hear a crowd. You
just kind of know what it is.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
It's like, yeah, that's what I was expecting, you know,
kickoff return tackle to twenty and you never it never
went down, and it just kept getting louder louder louder,
and I was like, oh my god, like that sounds
like a kickoff return for a touchdown. So like quickly
he got out washed, the hands got out there, and
it's sure enough, there is celebrating him in the end
(32:34):
zone right there. And so that's all when I think
of Dwayne Harris, I just think of listening didn't see it.
Just listening to that touchdown return, it was like, this
is going on too long. This is about ten seconds.
This is one hundred yard kickoff return, isn't it? And
sure it's sure as how it wasn't it. And I
think the Giant that was the score. They won the game,
something like twenty seven to twenty. I'm not sure there,
but I know he had the game winning one, so
(32:55):
I can't remember some He had some other great plays
for the Cowboys, but the one I think of is
that one? All right, Casey Joe is in Casey. What's up?
Speaker 23 (33:02):
Good morning, Nick? How are you doing good?
Speaker 17 (33:04):
How are you good?
Speaker 21 (33:05):
Hey?
Speaker 23 (33:06):
I see you win this weekend thirty one twenty four okay, yeah,
and I'd like to see Houston in this weekend on
the defensive end. You think they'll put him in, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
James Houston. That's a couple of callers Ago Rick said
the same thing.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
You know, all he.
Speaker 4 (33:20):
Does is just get after the quarterback and make plays.
He did in the preseason, he did it in the
in the game, and so he's not super flashy. I
think you might expect more, but he's productive. And so yeah,
that's that's certainly what you need. You needs productive guys
like that. So I could I could definitely see him. No, Yeah,
he's active. He's going to be active because of the
(33:41):
special teams, and he gives you some depth. But he
might be a guy that that rotates in a little
bit more.
Speaker 23 (33:47):
That'd be good.
Speaker 6 (33:48):
That really be good.
Speaker 23 (33:49):
I like to see him. Like I said, I think
our ends are good. You know, it's a learning it's
the first game. The second half things look better. So
I've seen improvement on both sides of all. You know,
so I was excited about the Running Game this this
last game. I really was.
Speaker 13 (34:06):
I surprised.
Speaker 23 (34:07):
But I think we got a good running corps because
we've got Blue, we got Williams. You know, we got
MafA when he comes back. I think we're solid in
the Running Game.
Speaker 4 (34:16):
Yeah, I kind of think. I think you're right. I
don't know if how much they need Miles Sanders. I
think Javante and then and Blue when he gets you know,
back in there, and then Lipkey. I think can can
serve as that guy that you got to use his value.
He can he played eight snaps. I think he can
play more than that, and I think he can be
(34:36):
a backup running back, short yardage guy if you needed him.
Speaker 23 (34:40):
Okay, well I will let you get some more cars
in there. You have a good day, sir.
Speaker 4 (34:45):
All right, thanks Casey Joe. In Kansas City Chiefs throwing
one over there in Kansas City. I'm sure that you
know they're getting a little restless. They had a tough
loss on Friday night. I'm not loving the Friday night
football for the NFL. I mean, Thursday's cool. I guess Friday, though,
(35:05):
I don't know. Maybe just because I'm here in Texas,
I think that that should be high school all the way.
But you know, I don't even love the college games
on Friday night.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
But they do it.
Speaker 4 (35:14):
Everyone creeps into their own Fridays. All right, Troy and Amarillo.
I've been to some high school football.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
What's up?
Speaker 24 (35:21):
Man?
Speaker 8 (35:22):
Hey Nick, what's going on? Man? Thanks for taking a call, man, problem,
How are you? I'm doing great. I was just gonna
tell you, you know, I really was excited to watch
the line play. You know, in the first game. I
thought that they really really played well, and I was
really pretty impressed. Actually, man with Steel, I thought Steel
was blocking really well. Yeah, you know, kind of cane
and stuff. But I tell you, I watch The only
(35:46):
thing is I'm not saying that they won't be that way,
but maybe it'll take them a while. But man, if
you really want to play football, man, a display of
football defensively was Sunday night. Man, with with those two
teams out there, you know, I was one and I
was like, man, it was they're like they're like machines.
You know that the culture in like you know, in
(36:06):
for Raven Football and in Buffalo too, but more of
the Ravens has been like generational. I mean that team
they nick snap five, you know, they'll be eight nine guys. Man,
you know, nine hats on the ball. Snap seventy five.
There's gonna be eight nine guys on the ball. And
roque one Smith. I was watching him a little bit,
(36:27):
you know, I wish we had that thumper like that guy,
you know, but he just kind of like, you know, man,
the savities will come up for support like Hamilton and
those guys, and they'll make the tackle and then he'll
just kind of like throw a little elbow there at
the end, going you know, hey, I'm still here. I'm
going to be doing this for like quite some time,
you know, But it's it was pretty remarkable to watch
those two guys try.
Speaker 4 (36:46):
Just a second, I'm going to make sure I clarify.
Did you say that was great defensive football? When you're
a game that was eighty three points combined scored?
Speaker 3 (36:53):
Is that what you're tying?
Speaker 8 (36:57):
The pursuit the pursuit talking about, man, when you've got
guys like that, either one of those teams men, I mean, granted,
then they're probably going to be representing one of those
teams gonna be representing they'll play again.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
You know you're.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
Right, and those games take on a life of its own.
I mean, I think they are a good defensive teams.
I'm just making sure I heard that correctly. That was
a That was a crazy game, There's no doubt about it.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
And you're right. And here's another thing.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
And I don't know how long the Bills head coach
has been there.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
I can see his face. I can't even think of
his name.
Speaker 8 (37:32):
Right McDermott.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
Yeah, he's got I mean what this is about sixth years,
seventh years for him and yeah, and Harball has been there,
but as long as anybody I think in the league.
So what my point is is, continuity is is really important.
And every time a team has all they suck and
(37:55):
our coach sucks, get rid of them, get rid of them,
get rid of them. I mean, you keep turning over
that kind of stuff, You're not going to have that
kind of content. What makes Baltimore so good and Pittsburgh,
I'll give them credit to Pittsburgh's kind of the same
way because they have that continuity. Now, they're not as
good as maybe Baltimore, but you know what, you're gonna
get so all I'm saying is is that you got
(38:16):
to let these coaches and this staff kind of fight
through it a little bit to build up some continuity
that their scouting department can say, we know what we
want here, we know what works, and let's let's stick
to it, as opposed to just changing it out every year.
Speaker 14 (38:30):
Yeah, you're absolutely, Rod.
Speaker 8 (38:33):
I was just thinking it was. I mean, granted there
was a lot of points scored and everything, but let's
i mean, let's be honest with each other though. These teams,
these offenses put a lot of pressure on you.
Speaker 4 (38:41):
Yeah, yeah, great, great quarterback plays from both sides of
the ball because they both can throw it and run it.
And that's what the Cowboys face with it with Hurts.
Speaker 3 (38:50):
So all right, exactly, all right, appreciate, appreciate it. Have
a good one. Let's go to Dylan in Northport, Florida. Dylan,
what's going?
Speaker 24 (39:00):
How you doing?
Speaker 22 (39:01):
Man?
Speaker 3 (39:01):
I'm great?
Speaker 17 (39:03):
All right.
Speaker 24 (39:03):
I haven't been listening today, so I don't know what's
been said or how this show's gone.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
Oh we want to hear.
Speaker 4 (39:09):
We want to see more from Jayden Blue, James Houston,
Marius LEA foul, that's what that's kind of what I'm
getting a sense that that's the kind of the theme
of the callers that.
Speaker 24 (39:19):
All sounds good. I'm down with that. Jaden Blue, Sure
mix them in. I don't really know what to expect.
Speaker 6 (39:25):
Lea foul would have.
Speaker 24 (39:26):
Been great last week, but you know they had a
plan with Murray and those guys. I was gonna say,
isn't it funny how before the season starts, you know,
we're all super excited about this linebacker room and like
it's pretty promising, and then one week goes by and
all of a sudden, now the defensive line is a strength,
and the corners are a strength, but now the linebacker's like,
oh god, what do we have there? It's funny has
stuff flip flops from week to week. Obviously, digs coming back.
(39:49):
It helps a lot too with that secondary. But you know,
I want to see lea foul and I heard I
guess just going back to this call, yes from I
forget his name, Alan, I think, or something like that, Yeah,
good call, good call. I would challenge anybody who I
(40:11):
don't have to ask mess with anybody who says anything
like this should be the case or this should happen,
I would challenge you if you haven't already purchased the
All twenty two, get the All twenty two and just
go look at you know, the plays that are in
question that you're saying this person should be open, or
Dak should do this with the ball at this point
in time, or whatever it might be. You're not necessarily
wrong with what you said Alan yesterday as far as
(40:32):
going to Turfin because he was open on a plant underneath.
But his quarterbacks, you know, they have a certain progression
they have to go through. And if your progression starts
from your pre snap read to ceedee lamb on a
vertical route, well that's that's the play, right And so
if you see that he's one on one, he's open,
I mean you're gonna take that. He's your best player,
gonna take it all day. And the ball was there,
forcee We're gonna make a catch. Didn't happen, But I'm
(40:53):
not gonna fault Dak for that and going through his
progressions the appropriate way and all that. But I would
just say, you know, be careful with the theories, be
careful what the should be or should not be. And
you know, if you can go spend some time and
take a look at the All twenty two and you'll
see that you're not wrong, but it just helps you
just maybe solify your point of going on.
Speaker 3 (41:14):
Yeah, that's a good point. I mean, you got anything
else doing?
Speaker 15 (41:18):
No?
Speaker 24 (41:18):
I man, that's it. Just a chill call that.
Speaker 12 (41:20):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (41:21):
Yeah, all right, appreciate that. One of the captains on
the Storyline team, Dylan calling in. Good to see him
in Oxnard a few weeks ago training camp him and
he brought seven people there.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
To watch a few practices.
Speaker 4 (41:34):
It was good to see them and then do a
couple of shows, at least one show with them. I
think that's that's a good point though, for sure, about
CD and the All twenty two and just kind of seeing,
well someone else is open, like all right, well who
you know, like, look at it. Don't just assume all
the time, and so that that's what that that's there for.
(41:55):
It's a really good tool, and you get a chance
to kind of see what the coaches are seeing and
what they evaluate. All right, let's go to our last
caller will be Brandon in Fresno, California. Brandon, what's up, man?
Speaker 22 (42:06):
What's up?
Speaker 8 (42:06):
Nick?
Speaker 22 (42:07):
I'll be tasted real quick. I've been trying to call
it like last week or whatever. But I just wanted
to tell you, like, when it comes to penalty like
holding pendal lease, is it kind of like the NBA,
Like you know when Lebron drives to the to go,
drive to the hoop and get the and one. I
feel like when it comes to Mike, he'll get that
holding penalty as Rocke I held like three or four times,
Doty's holler got held three or four times? Do they
(42:27):
only call it for the big name players? Kind of?
Like do that?
Speaker 3 (42:31):
Brandon? What did you watch any games last year? Like
Mike didn't get the calls.
Speaker 4 (42:35):
I mean he didn't and he and then he kept
complaining about it on his podcast, complaining about it. The
rest are human. I'm sure that that didn't help his
cause at all, But no, I don't I don't believe
that's the case. I don't believe that the star players
get the call because I Michaeh didn't get the calls
last year. He didn't get a holding penalty in like
twelve weeks in a row, like like, and he was
(42:57):
leading the league in pressures.
Speaker 3 (42:59):
That's what I thought. It was crazy.
Speaker 22 (43:01):
I sound like what during this podcast the rest arobably
seen that Andy, They you know, held it toward against
him because like I feel like Miles Gary gets that call.
You know, the big names you get the call. I
feel like the big names you get to call. And
I just seen Azraku get held like two or three
times around and I was like, man, he would have
got home on that one. But him being a rookie,
They're like, yeah, we're not going to give you that call. Yeah,
well then I have a good day, Nick, and look
(43:22):
forward to this weekend and yeah we'll beat those giants.
Speaker 4 (43:25):
All right, sounds good. Thanks for the call, Brendan. And
I said this yesterday on the on the podcast. I
mean he's not the biggest guy in the world as Iraki.
He's going to have to I mean, those those big
offensive linemen, those tackles, they're bigger than he is. His
hands or their hands are strong. They're gonna get you know,
his jersey is passed. He's got to get off of that.
And so that that's going to be part of this thing.
(43:47):
It's not just you know, getting the calls. He can't
just get somebody to get their hands locked in on him.
So but I think he will it's one game. He'll
he'll get better, and he'll he'll figure it out. All right,
let's take our last break real quick on Cowboys storyline.
Speaker 3 (44:00):

Speaker 2 (45:04):
The Cowboys storyline.
Speaker 4 (45:06):
It all right, welcome back to Cowboys storyline presented by Gillette.
We've got time just for a few more minutes here
on the shows. We get ready to see the Cowboys
in Week two against the New York Giants. I think
everyone is certainly wanting to watch that again after that
Thursday night game. You know, there's so many positive things
(45:29):
that come out of it other than the loss. I mean,
this isn't about the moral victory. This is this is about,
you know, trying to get better, taking a step in
the right direction. That only it only counts if you
take care of business for this next game and then
the ones after that. And I think when you look
at the NFL and the scope of it, you're looking
at the schedule, I mean, it's it's here, It's here
for the taking, you know. I don't you can argue
(45:50):
that the game at Philly might be the toughest game
right now on paper that they're going to have. I'm
sure it won't play out that way, but that's the
way it kind of looks. And you know, earlier in
the week, Jerry Jones said on his radio hit one
O five to three the Fan on Tuesday morning, he
talked about the player grades and how Dak Prescott was
the highest rated player they had on offense and Kenny
(46:13):
Clark was the highest rated player they had on defense.
So when you think about you know, Dak's getting paid
the money and he's the quarterback that's what you want.
And then the guy that you just traded, you traded
Michael Parsons away, and the afterthought guy has been Kenney Clark.
Speaker 3 (46:27):
But not to the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (46:28):
Kenny Clark's the guy that they certainly had zeroed in
to be a big part of this trade, and he
certainly was. And I think even that first game you
saw the impact that he could make and I think
he will continue to make. All Right, the Cowboys, We've
got a few more you know, a few more days
to talk about Cowboys and Giants. Is gonna be a
(46:49):
lot of fun as we get leading up to this.
We know the quarterback is going to be for the Giants.
Russell Wilson is the guy. He's their starter, and a
lot of history with Brian Shott and high. So there'll
be a fun storyline throughout the week with their time
together in Seattle and Schottenheimer coach there as the offensive
coordinator for Russell. He was the guy when they said
(47:10):
let Russ cook. He was the guy, you know, he
was the chef in the back letting them letting him
do that. Schottenheimer was with Russell Wilson. So they don't
want him to cook this week though against the Giants
for sure, that that's gonna be. The big thing is
trying to figure out how to get pressure. His stats
the other day seventeen of thirty seven, so a lot
of incompletions, pressure matters.
Speaker 3 (47:31):
Getting home.
Speaker 4 (47:32):
Getting sacked is a big deal. The Cowboys got one,
but obviously want to see them get a lot of pressure.
Speaker 3 (47:37):
All right.
Speaker 4 (47:38):
We'll be back next week for Cowboys Storyline and on
the Daily podcast every day at ten am. So for
Chris Beam, I'm Nick Eatmancy next time on Cowboys Storyline.
