Speaker 1 (00:05):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
This is Cowboys Storyline, brought you by Gillette, the official
razor of the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
Here's Nick Eatman. All right, welcome to Cowboys Storyline. I'm
Nick Eatman. It is Wednesday, August something. I don't even
know what day it is, August twenty seventh. I know
this is the first day of the new schedule. So
ten am. From here on out, on every day that
(00:47):
we have podcasts, there's gonna be holidays and things like that,
travel days where we don't have one, but when we
have an actual podcast day, we're going this time ten
a m. Dallas time. All right, let's talk about the
Cowboys and Eagles, because we're about a week away. We're
a week away from traveling to Philadelphia. The game will
(01:08):
be obviously a week from tomorrow, and I know you
guys seem pretty confident about it and at least excited
about you know what could happen when the Cowboys take
Philly take the field there in Philly. I know that
you know they're the defending champs. There's going to be
the rings and all that stuff. But you know, this
team would be better if it has Mic on the field, obviously,
(01:30):
but still I don't think they're going to be scared
of the offense. Should be ready to go. And then
we're all excited about seeing that the Cowboys cut down
the roster yesterday and fifty three players are still going
to be some moving parts there. You would imagine Schottenheimer
called it the second draft, I think, and talking about
different players that they may add today. So not everybody
(01:51):
that made the fifty three is going to be safe.
They're going to make a few changes. I'm sure we'll
have all that for you covered as the day goes on.
All right, eight A eight, eight, five, five to two
ninety seven is the number to call. And let's get
it started here. I think we have Michael and Bowling
Green as he first.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
Michael, yep, yep, yep, yep. Let's say, all right, we
got to get the least ten callers, so I'm gonna
make it quick. Okay, all right, mister sportswriter extraordinary, I
got a question for you. I want your opinion. After
the Cowboys start off by beating the Eagles for the
rest of the season, what does Shody need to happen
(02:31):
to be considered a successful season for him as his
first year his head make the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Got to make the playoffs. I mean, I think that
would be a successful season. That would be better than
what you did before. I don't think just having a
winning record. I don't think at nine to eight record
and not making the playoffs is considered that successful. But
I think if he makes the playoffs, I think that
would be very successful for him.
Speaker 5 (02:57):
So what about winning at least at least win in
the first game or is it just making the playoffs?
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Do they are? They making the playoffs at at at
ten and seven as the seventh seed and they go
to us on the road and play a number two
seed in Minnesota and lose, I mean I did. We'll
see what happens. I mean, I think I think right now,
this is a team that a losing record and didn't
make the playoffs, and therefore they needed a change. So
then they got Brian Schottenheimer. They've come in here, and
(03:27):
let's see what happened. We don't we don't know what
the season is going to look like. We don't know
what the injuries you're gonna have to to deal with.
You know, there might be a situation where they start
out slow and get hot and sneak into the playoffs.
And you know, we don't necessarily know all that stuff,
so it's hard to say what a success is. But
I would think if you do better than what happened
last year, especially making the playoffs, that would be considered successful.
(03:51):
It's not the standard, but it's still a successful season
for to me, a first year head coach.
Speaker 5 (03:57):
Hey, I would use to get the right answer I
had to.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
It's not a right answer. It's not a right answer answer. Seriously,
some the callers might have a different opinion of what
they they call successful. But I I think when you
when when you don't make the playoffs and you make
a coaching change, you don't like the direction that you're in,
so you need a new guy to come in and
change the direction. And if you get a better record
than you had before and you make the playoffs, that
(04:24):
to me is the step that that's needed.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
Well, Robin Vegas calls today. I want to hear his opinion.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
Okay, all right, have a go see you later. All right,
let's roll. Let's go to Zach and Germany. Zach, what's up, Nick.
Speaker 6 (04:39):
What's going on?
Speaker 4 (04:40):
How are you doing?
Speaker 6 (04:42):
Good? Brother?
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Good?
Speaker 6 (04:45):
First, we made it, We finally made it to the
beginning of the season training over here in Germany, but
the Senate shine, we have football right on the horizon.
I want to talk to you about today is Micah
Do you think he might be getting some bad advice?
And the reason I say that normally Jerry's not the
one that's typically holding the cards. If you look at
(05:06):
the DAK deals where Dak really had the leverage, you know,
Micah doesn't have the leverage in this. And the longer
that this hold in kind of goes I think for me,
the more that Micah has to lose. Right, he's likely
going to start the season a little slow, one without camp,
and two if he's going to be playing limited probably
rushing downs to start the first week or two, he
(05:27):
might not have the stat line. But I think when
you also look bigger picture here, if he was offered
what they're saying he was offered, you know, he's a
young guy. He's going to create this generational wealth on
this contract. But he's got more contracts coming down the line.
So I want to get your perspective on that. And
then Since we're on the Micah topic, if you had
(05:48):
to choose with the makeup of this team, would you
rather have a Micah Parsons in his prime or maybe
a guy like Aaron Donald. I was watching the pre
season and Mazzi almost got pushed through my TV screen,
so may have probably leaned towards Donald.
Speaker 7 (06:01):
But I want to hear your thoughts.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
On in his prime, in his prime? Yeah, yeah, Aaron
Donald in his prime. And and there's not many. I
mean we're talking about Lawrence Taylor and who else. I
mean we're I mean, we're talking about like a three
time Defensive Player of the Year that played the defensive
tackle position where you actually got sacks. Most people just
(06:23):
kind of, you know, hold their ground, but he was
a guy that was able to be a dominant past
rusher from the interior.
Speaker 8 (06:31):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Yeah, I'd go with with him than just about any player.
That's not just about Micah. I can't think of many
players that that I thought were as dominating as as
Aaron Donald. So yeah, for sure. But as far as
the Micah getting bad advice, I mean for us, you
and me and everyone listening and all that, of course,
(06:55):
we we nobody would understand uh, oh, fort million a
year not enough, you know, or whatever it was. I
think it was in that neighborhood of forty one million
a year, two five for five years and not taking it. So, yeah,
that's hard to grasp. And of course there's more details
(07:16):
involved there, but it seems like they weren't the big picture.
You know, when anybody, anybody gets a new deal, Terry
McLaurin gets a new deal, or Henderson gets something or
whatever it is. Every single time, ninety nine percent of
the time, when someone says, oh, did you see the
deal so and so got, they don't say, you know,
(07:38):
what was the language, what was the incentives, what was
the fifth year option? They said how much? How much
was it? How much was the deal? That's the question.
So that's the biggest part. And when you get that part,
if the story is told correctly, and it seems like
this is true that if that part is, you know,
(07:58):
five years and two and all that, we'll work on
some of the other stuff. The other stuff should not
be holding up the deal. Now, again, this is somebody
that wasn't in there, and we don't know all the
details of it. But usually the big, the big things are,
you know, guaranteed money, and and and what's the you know,
what's the overall you know, annual salary and and and
(08:20):
how long is it? Those three things right there, that's
about it. And if that thing gets settled, it's hard
to think that this thing is going to keep going on.
There might be other factors involved. So I can't tell
you the advice he's getting. All I know is it
sounds like there was a deal on the table for him.
He didn't take it. And you know, now, I don't
know what that deal looks like now. And there's been
(08:41):
a lot of things that have happened since then that
that that aren't favorable for him and aren't favorable for
the Cowboys. So all the way around this this hasn't
been a great situation. All right, let's go to Robbie
Koco Beach, Florida. Robbie. What's up?
Speaker 1 (08:55):
What's up, buddy?
Speaker 6 (08:56):
No talk?
Speaker 7 (08:57):
Man, It's good to be bad.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
Yeah, how are you doing.
Speaker 7 (09:00):
I've been trying.
Speaker 8 (09:01):
I've been good. I've been trying to get in man.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
My daughter's turning six tomorrow, man, fed that's awesome.
Speaker 4 (09:06):
I have a birthday to her.
Speaker 7 (09:07):
Great appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
I know we're trying to keep things quick todays, let's
keep things rolling. What do you think is gonna happen
with the sets stack of one technique?
Speaker 8 (09:14):
Are we going to get somebody?
Speaker 4 (09:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (09:17):
And I know nobody can make any assumptions about Micah,
So what are we gonna.
Speaker 7 (09:20):
Ask about that one man? Other than that, have a
good one.
Speaker 6 (09:23):
Good to hear your voice.
Speaker 7 (09:24):
We'll be back on soon.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
Appreciate it. Yeah, I'll just say, I mean the mic
apart is just a roller coaster that you know it. Yeah,
I feel like we're all on. You know, There's there's
times of this where I think one way and then
it goes up and down and around and I'll go
backwards and you know, I don't know, I've had different
(09:46):
thoughts about how I think this is going to play out. So,
you know, and you see the stuff that's being reported,
and I don't know if some of these rumors are
starting to get a little you know, start and they're
definitely surfacing and they're starting to get some legs to it.
But I don't know, it's hard. It's hard to tell
(10:07):
what what what could happen here? It's all a game,
It's a game of leverage back and forth. Uh sure, sure,
we're listening to trade offers and all that all the
while less get this thing done. And you know, so
there's different tactics here and and and it's hard to
to know what game is being played when you don't
know the rules. And that's that's that's the way it
is in life. So it's hard to understand this game
(10:30):
when you don't know exactly what what's being said behind
closed doors and all that. As for defensive tackle, well,
what Schottenheimer said about Perry and Winfrey makes me think
he's going to be here. I mean it's hard to
it's somebody's not going to be here. You know, someone
makes the fifty three man roster and then there I mean,
Shoty just said it. There's a second draft. Well someone's gone.
(10:52):
Then you know someone's getting cut. When when when that happens?
You know, And so there there are some guys, there
are some guys that they can move, you know. There
I think like Kaylen Carson will probably go to I R.
Phil MafA I think is going to go to I R.
Both of those ir to return. But you know C J.
(11:13):
Goodwin is was was cut, should should be coming back.
He could be on the practice card. There's a lot
of different things to to to figure out here, so
there's different ways they can do it. But they are
probably trying to bring a player or two in here,
which means they're going to have to create a roster
spot somehow, some way. What position that is? It could
be defensive tackle, if there could be corner. Those are
(11:35):
the two that I would think it's probably about it.
I mean, maybe maybe an offensive lineman that you'd like better,
maybe a tackle or so, but we'll see. All right,
let's go to William in West Virginia and William, what's up?
Speaker 6 (11:48):
Nick?
Speaker 4 (11:49):
Good? Good to hear from some of you guys, haven't
heard from in a while. How are you doing?
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Man?
Speaker 10 (11:53):
Well, I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
I said. He you hanging in there.
Speaker 10 (11:59):
I'm hanging in there. Life happens. But I try to
get in as often as I can. But you know,
I'm unfortunately working stuff, so but I do listen and
I try to get in as much as I can.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (12:09):
I as will say.
Speaker 10 (12:10):
I had one question in one comment, the comment I'm
gonna wait on this Micah thing. I'm not worried about it.
I've watch I've been a Cowboys fan for over forty years.
Jerry has never lost anybody he's wanted to keep. If
he wants to keep Mikeah, he's going to be here.
When he said Cowboy fans don't lose sleep over, I
believe that. So I'm not worried about it. And that's
(12:30):
just my take on it. And secondly, I'm really glad
that kept til MafA. Can you explain to me how
the hour to return thing works because I know that
Mingo and Peyton Turner were put on their initially. Does
this mean he MafA could come back sooner or how
that works?
Speaker 4 (12:44):
Okay, well, they did change your rule this year that
you can keep two players. You can put them onto
injured to IR to return. He can be back in
four weeks. It could be six weeks. I get that
one confused with a pup, but they I think it's
four weeks. They could be back. That they have two spots.
(13:04):
Anybody else that you do that with. They have to
be on the roster for one day. So Mingo and
Peyton Turner, they they already did that. They're going to
go to I R to return. They could be back
after the fourth game. Then today MafA and Carson. They've
been on the roster for a day, they can now
get placed on that and that will free up a
(13:26):
couple other spots, so that any other player that you
did that had to be on the roster for at
least one day.
Speaker 10 (13:32):
So does that mean for four weeks for them too?
That how that works as well? Okay, so thanks for
paring that for me. Yeah, I appreciate it and great shows.
Speaker 7 (13:40):
Always keep it up and I'll talk to you.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
Against appreciate it. Thank you. All Right, we're rolling here,
let's keep it going for it worth go Sergeant Sue,
what's up?
Speaker 11 (13:49):
What's going on?
Speaker 12 (13:50):
Nick?
Speaker 7 (13:51):
Everybody?
Speaker 4 (13:51):
How are you doing?
Speaker 7 (13:53):
Well?
Speaker 6 (13:54):
Good?
Speaker 4 (13:54):
We got for me?
Speaker 7 (13:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (13:56):
Man, real quick, I just want to say, Man Brooks
getting let go yesterday was kind of tough.
Speaker 7 (14:02):
Man.
Speaker 11 (14:02):
I got to watch him and I wasn't a big
fan of his before training camp, but getting to see
him and just how he developed and become such a
deep threat, I was really poor for the guy.
Speaker 9 (14:10):
It is really unfortunate.
Speaker 11 (14:11):
You know, people get cut, you know, all the time,
and it's just one of those guys. So I just
wanted to send a shout out to him. But one
other thing I want to touch on is a lot
of times, like we've heard Dak say it already, and
of course we heard coach Shott. He said, talk about,
you know, the vanilla offense and how things have been vanilla.
And I kind of feel like saying that stuff kind
of set sets you up to I mean, I guess
(14:31):
it can go both ways, but it kind of sets
you up to kind of look look bad week one,
you know, because you know this is all going to
be brand new, and if things aren't clicking this all
this vanilla talk is gonna sound kind of dumb, you
know what I mean. And I just wish they would,
you know, stop saying it to me. It's kind of
like when someone's like, oh, you know, I wasn't even
trying that hard, you know, out now I'm gonna try
for real. It's like, all right, brother, like whatever, you
(14:52):
know what I mean. I don't like to bring the negativity.
You know, I'm usually the positive guy, but that's just
something that's been rubbed me the wrong way. And I
had a question for you about the running back room.
Speaker 10 (15:01):
I really wish.
Speaker 11 (15:01):
Because obviously the running game is going to be something
that we have to uh that we're gonna be able
to that we're going to see for the first time
really under this new offense. So, with Davonte not playing
any of the preseason, do you feel like maybe the
injuries to like Deuce and Blue and Sanders kind of
aided to them kind of bubble wrapping him because they
didn't want him to get injured as well. And then
now you're dealing with, you know, inexperience or just a
(15:23):
very stand running back room or do you feel like
that was the plan all along? So that's just my
question to you.
Speaker 7 (15:29):
Brother.
Speaker 11 (15:29):
I'll keep it quick. I know that we want to
go through and I appreciate you for taking my car.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
Brother, appreciate it. Uh you know the Yeah, I think
that Davonte Williams was was the guy from the start.
I mean, as the lead runner. I kind of thought
maybe Miles Sanders could come in and and and be
a better option, but I don't think they felt that way.
I think it was Davonte's job from the very beginning. Now,
(15:54):
Miles Sanders getting banged up, do is Vaughan getting banged up,
Jayden Blue get hurt for a little bit? I mean, yeah,
that that that probably aided in that. But you know,
if you're not going to play your quarterback, you're not
going to play most of your offensive line, your starters.
Then you know they weren't going to play the running back.
(16:16):
So I think that that's kind of what's what's going
on there with the with the running back situation and
kind of why they they did what they did. But
you know, I think overall, you know, as far as
being vanilla, and it kind of goes both ways. You know,
do you do you want to show your hand or not?
You want to go out there, you want to see
(16:36):
some some basic things from your players, but you're not
going to show all of your best stuff. And I
think you know, the Cowboys versus the Eagles, Okay, one
team won the Super Bowl, the other team had to
miss the playoffs, had a coaching change, and when they played,
I think it's seventy five thirteen. Is that the combined
(16:57):
score of the two games. Now, I understand Dak didn't
play either one of them. Jalen Hurdzel and played in
one of them, but seventy five to thirteen that's where
you are in two games against Philly from Lester, So
there's a huge gap there, and so talent wise, no,
I don't think the Cowboys have the talent that the
Eagles do, especially at some of the skill positions and
(17:17):
things like that, defense and all that. But the one
advantage that they kind of have is that Philly doesn't
have a great read of what the Cowboys are trying
to do. Now, maybe it'll take a two series to
figure it out. Maybe you know, it's not gonna be
that big deal. But all I'm saying is that's one
little thing the Cowboys do have in this situation, and
so you want to keep it, you know, so you
(17:39):
don't you don't want to go out and throw some
things out there and and and put those things on tape.
You don't need to do that. So you know, you
got to take every little advantage that you have, and
that might be one that the Cowboys do have. Again,
I'm not saying that the Eagles can't can't figure it out,
and you know they'll they'll they'll know right away what
the Cowboys are trying to do. But you know, maybe
(17:59):
it's nothing, Dallas, maybe it's ten nothing. You know, maybe
it's they're enough where they can hang in the game
for a little bit. And that's where I think we
we are. I mean, you know, there are zero and
zero like everyone else. But I mean, all we're going
off of is what we saw last year. And I'm
sure Philadelphia is going to be a really good team
and that place has always been tough to play, so
it's going to be rowdy and exciting for them, so
(18:21):
it's going to be a great atmosphere. But I'm saying,
you know, I like the fact that the Cowboys have
some things that they haven't shown yet that maybe you know,
some packages that that that can that can help them
once we get out there. All right, let's go to
Joe in New York.
Speaker 8 (18:35):
Hey, Matt cow are you sir?
Speaker 4 (18:37):
How are you doing? Man?
Speaker 8 (18:38):
I'm doing great, Man. Another year upon us. Cowboy football
always a good time of year. I got you know,
you just mentioned something. I was going to mention something else,
but I just want to hit on real quick what
you mentioned. We're hoping the Cowboys could stay in the game.
And you know, when you have a franchise quarterback that
you paid sixty million dollars to right open for more
(19:00):
than hoping that they could stay in the game, that
what leads me to this. I don't know where you
stand on Micah Parsons. I've been a Cowboy fans in
nineteen eighty Okay, I go back.
Speaker 7 (19:11):
I'm in New York.
Speaker 8 (19:12):
Last time your commented on my accent, and I appreciate that, sir.
I'm a huge Cowboy fan. I've been this for a
Cowboy fan eighty I'll always be a Cowboy fan. My
question to you is this, if we're at the point
now and usually every year when we were twelve and
five for the last three years, throw out last year
because a Dak, we always had a great record against
(19:35):
the nfseas, right, we always usually we split with Philadelphia,
we would sweep the Giants, and we mostly would sweep
the Commanders, Okay, And that's where we had the advantage
having Dak. Was that advantage. If you're saying our talent
gap is that great between us and say the Eagles,
(19:56):
is it for a defense of player? And that's why
I'm asking you for Micah, Right. I think Mike is
a great player. I don't think he should transcendent player.
Speaker 5 (20:06):
Okay.
Speaker 8 (20:07):
If they're talking about getting two three number one picks
for him, right, and the talent gap is that far,
why would we pay him without trading him? I just
want to get your opinion on that, because if you're saying, like,
based on what you see now, we're going to be,
say five hundred or less.
Speaker 4 (20:27):
I said, I didn't say that. I said the talent
between the Eagles, the world champions, and the Cowboys was
seventy five to thirteen. I don't know. I don't know
if they've closed the gap on that. I don't know
if thats the gap because I don't know the best
players on defense, Parsons and Diggs. I don't know if
they're going to play overshown those three guys, I don't
(20:48):
they all three might not play in this game. So
I can't tell you that they've closed the gap that much.
I didn't say anything about what their record was going
to be now don't here.
Speaker 8 (20:56):
I was going to ask you then, but there, if
you look at who they're playing year, right, they're playing
other than which I think you would agree that the
division's better.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
Okay, how much better?
Speaker 8 (21:08):
I don't know, but they could finish fourth in the division,
right they could. My question to you is who they're
playing is probably one of the toughest schedules in the NFL.
Starting now. You don't know about injuries, and all that
other stuff. So my thing is if they moved on
from Parsons and got what is portrayed or what is
(21:32):
talked about, Yeah, would you have a problem with that?
Based on what you're saying? We got to get better?
Speaker 12 (21:38):
Right?
Speaker 8 (21:39):
So if we've got to get better, is he enough?
Just having him that's going to get us where where
all caby fins won't eventually get to.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
I'm going to ask you this question, Joel, gonna ask
you this question, and this might be a loaded question,
but since you're the one on the line and you're
kind of asking, I'll throw it to you. Would you
trade Micah? I understand these players are on your team,
but would you trade Micah for the equivalent of Tyler Smith,
Mazzi Smith, and Tyler Guidon? Those three? You're getting those three?
Speaker 6 (22:11):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (22:11):
Yeah, of course not right, You're you're okay, okay, you mention.
Speaker 4 (22:15):
It, But you know what I'm going You know, I'm
going with that because that's the that you're going to
get if you if you trade for that right now,
you're going to get something. You're going to get picks
in the twenties.
Speaker 8 (22:27):
I agree with that, And what you're telling me is
I go by, then I go by this. What can
you do with that forty to forty five million? I
understand the draft picks. I'm under I'm asking you that, yeh,
would you rather load up on offense? And let's be candid,
this is an offensive league, okay? Or would you rather
(22:48):
pay a defensive guy who's and I love them, but
he ate Lawrence Taylor? Okay, but hey he's but he's
not him.
Speaker 4 (22:59):
Okay, Lebron. Lebron's not Michael Jordan's, but he Lebron.
Speaker 8 (23:04):
Let's come on, Nick, You've seen the games, and I
think I speak for a lot of Cowboys fans and
I could be a face and call me out on it,
but I seen him disappear in big games. And the
last time that defense played a big game, they got
smoked by Green Bay and he's nowhere.
Speaker 4 (23:19):
To be found.
Speaker 8 (23:22):
So that's you got to call it where you see it.
Are you telling me if you if he's Taylor, you
write the check. I'm not saying he shouldn't get pained.
And I think what Jerry does is, after a while,
it gets to be tiresome and I'm done with the
nonsense and the theatrics and the bs But what I'm saying
(23:42):
to you is, are you you have to be confident
in Will McClay and the scouting department. And if you're
telling me, for the most part they've drafted, well, yes,
they had some couple of bad players with Masie and stuff,
and I agree with that, and I agree with what
you're saying in that regard. But would it be better
(24:04):
to have pickens or it's a pickings tight, not just
in per se, and load up on offense when it's
an offensive league than to pay you defensive player and
just have Dak and Seed Lamb and a prayer on
offense without the skill.
Speaker 7 (24:21):
Guys.
Speaker 4 (24:22):
That's all I'm asking, okay, and I'll answer it. Thank you, Joe,
appreciate that.
Speaker 8 (24:27):
They have great talking to you man.
Speaker 7 (24:29):
Keep up the good work.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
Man too, Thank you. Yeah. I mean those are questions
that cowboys are probably asking themselves. And I bet you
if you take the ten to fifteen highest ranked people
over there, the front office, you know guys, and the
scouts and all that, I guarantee you have different answers there.
I mean they are probably split within that group. There
(24:52):
are some that are like this, do it. I'll take
the picks especially the ones probably in the scouting department
because they like having the picks. I don't have to
deal with some of the other stuff, you know, as
far as from when the coaches might me personally though,
I when I watched the games, it's an offensive league.
(25:12):
Like like you said, Joe, Yeah, watching offense, that's where
the touchdowns are. It's exciting. If you're gonna have to
go and run to the restroom real quick, you probably
don't do it when you're on offense. Well, for me,
Micah made defense and must watch, must watch because it's
outstanding when he's out there, just how he can get
to the quarterback. He can change games. And they got
(25:35):
lucky by taking him when they did at with twelve.
I guess they got lucky there that he was still
around that nobody really thought he was a pass rusher.
If they did, they wouldn't have waited that long to
get him. And I'm not even sure the Cowboys thought
he was that until Week two of that rookie season
against the Chargers when they had to do it and
they realize, oh man, we have something here. I don't
(25:58):
want to trade them. You can say, oh, the forty
two million, forty three. It could go somewhere else, sure,
but I think that kind of player makes your cornerbacks better,
makes your linebackers better, makes your team better. And yeah,
they lost games. They lost games with him. He's not perfect,
but you know, and you say, he's not Lawrence Taylor, Okay,
(26:20):
But the fact that you're even mentioning it, and the
fact that we've been talking about Lawrence Taylor since the
moment he got here tells me that it's the same
thing that what I say about Lebron and Jordan. I mean, okay,
it's always not the same, It's always not. But damn
I'll take it. I'll take someone that's pretty close. And
that's just I just don't want to trade. I wouldn't
trade him. I just don't think you can get the value,
(26:41):
especially right now. If I'm have to trade Michael Parsons,
it would be after the season and before the draft,
where I know this team that wants him their pick
is in the top ten, top twelve, that's one of them,
and then next year's pick. We'll see. But I mean,
I'm not I'm not taking them to a team that's
been like the Packers, that's been in the playoffs for
two straight years that they're a better team than the Cowboys.
(27:04):
That they've shown that the last two years, that they're
a better team than the Cowboys. So why would you
trade them? There? And now your picks, if you get
first round picks, are going to be in the mid twenties. Yeah,
you can pack it to them, but I'm not interested
in doing that. That's me. Now are the Cowboys That's
another question. And we'll see how serious things are getting here.
We'll see what the laying on the table and the
(27:24):
preseason game. You know what kind of feathers that ruffled?
Because it sounds like it did. We got to take
a break here real quick on Cowboys storyline. I'll be
right back after this.

What's up man? Hello? No, No, Chris, No, I'm here,
I'm here. Nick, All right, what's up man?
Speaker 7 (29:50):
Let's just put this Micah Parson stuff to refs. He's
not getting traded. There's no way, no, there's no way
Jerry's gonna trade him right now. This is all business,
it's all game, all tactics. He's gonna he He's either
gonna he's probably gonna play on the franchise tag is
my guest, or they'll sign him at the last minute.
He's not going anywhere. There's no way we're gonna trade
(30:11):
a generational player. When his value is kind of at
the lowest point right now. One hundred percent agree with you.
If we're gonna trade him, it's gonna be at the
end of the year, before the draft, when we know
exactly what we can get, where that pick's going to be.
There's no we have a team in my opinion right now,
if we can stay healthy, we have a chance to
compete in the playoffs with Michael Parsons. There without Michael
(30:36):
Parsons very little chance in my opinion, we can compete
in the end of playoffs without Michael Parsons. So let's
there's there's I say, there's like a one percent chance
that he gets traded before the season starts. I'm just
I'm just excited to see, you know, the new offense
and what we're gonna we're gonna have, and how exciting
it's gonna be. But Michael Parsons isn't going anywhere. I'm
(30:59):
telling you right now, You're not going anywhere, all right.
Speaker 4 (31:02):
I I I don't know. I wouldn't. I don't think
so either. I'd be shocked if it happened. But you know,
I think there's a better chance today than I would
have thought in yesterday show, and so if that thing
keeps going like that, then yeah. But I mean I
think the fact that maybe the Cowboys are at least
(31:26):
listening that right there tells me that you know, they're
at least entertaining the thought. Now again, I I don't know,
Like you said, it could be all just just business
strategy here and trying to to one up each other
with leverage. There's a lot of moving parts here. There's
there's a lot of different scenarios that can happen, some
things that I don't even know I could even talk
(31:46):
about that that that that could happen here could be
on the table. So it's it's wild. I wish I
had better answers here. You know, you don't like that
thing hanging over your head as you're about to play
the game that everybody's question marks, but most of them
don't have. Is your best player on your team going
to play for you or not? That's where the Cowboys are.
Speaker 7 (32:08):
I think he I think he suits up against against
the Eagles, I really do. I think will he play
the whole game? Probably not, but he's gonna play enough
where he can be impactful. I really think he's gonna
play I just I don't see a scenario where he's
gonna want to sit. You know, he's pretty loyal to
the teammates. You know, he loves those guys. I don't
(32:31):
think he's gonna fit. I really think he's gonna play.
Speaker 4 (32:36):
What makes you say that, though, I'm just gonna put
that back on you. What makes you say loyal to
your teammates.
Speaker 7 (32:42):
All the report if you talk to Diggs, you talk
to the other other.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
Guys more than Diggs. I need more than his buddy
he is.
Speaker 7 (32:51):
I just think he's always wanted to be a cowboy.
I think it's just it's just the way the game.
I mean, look at look at the guy in Cleveland,
So I don't want to be in Cleveland anymore, trying
me and then and then like a week later. Times
it's what they do. It's the business of it, leverage.
He wants his money. I don't blame him, you know
what I mean, It's all just a game.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
Only reason I asked you about that with the teammates
is I just say that. I'm just going to say this.
Laying on the table in the middle of a preseason game,
I think has has a bigger effect than people realize.
I think that was a bigger deal than people think.
I don't.
Speaker 7 (33:28):
That was not a good look. That was not a
good look. And I think that maybe a little bit
immaturity in my opinion, a little bit on his ead
on his part. That's not a good look.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
I agree, right, I still And then with anybody in
the world when you talk, when you're talking to somebody
that says, man, some of your issues are immaturity. Here's
two hundred million dollars, you know, so that that that's
part of it. I'm not calling him immature, but I
mean he's young. He does some things. That was You're right,
that wasn't a good look. But that didn't look good
(33:59):
as a the leader of players that you that you
want and and and I'll say this off the air,
you have anything else? Are you good?
Speaker 7 (34:08):
Just one more? What do you think about that defensive
tackle that the Ravens released Waved? Any chance you think
we signed somebody like him for defensive See?
Speaker 4 (34:18):
I didn't see that. Is that was that cut recently?
I don't. I haven't seen who's out there? Are you
talking about waved a few weeks ago?
Speaker 12 (34:27):
No?
Speaker 7 (34:27):
They just waved them.
Speaker 4 (34:28):
No, I don't. I don't know. I wouldn't I wouldn't
know that. I haven't looked at some of those guys.
If he's if he can help this team, if he's
better than Mazzi and Perry On Winfrey, and I think,
I think you gotta you gotta look at that. And
I think the Cowboys are looking at players like that. Okay,
all right, all right, man, let me say this real
quick about about the Parsons thing. You know why I
(34:52):
think that that that didn't sit well. What happened at
the game the other day is is just when you
think about if you know, if you had an older brother,
you know I have an older brother, but if you
have an older brother, and and and you know he
was at at your little league game and sitting in
the stands, I mean, you want to do well for them.
And think about all the young players on defense. There's
(35:13):
Micah Parsons there, he's not playing, he's in street clothes,
but but you know he's out there, and you want them,
you want to show out for them, and and you
want to make a big play. You see some of
these guys make it, make a big play. Andrew Booth
got an interception two weeks ago and here's Darn Bland,
and there's there's you know, all the defensive guys, you know,
giving them high fives and all that you want to
(35:34):
do that James Houston's making a sack here in the
middle of the game, and and and Michah Parsons did Micah,
did you see that? No, he's laying down, you know.
So that's that. That wasn't good at all. And uh,
I think it. I think it's been more telling than
then people think. I'm not saying the Cowboys have totally
(35:54):
changed their stance and said, all right, that's it, that's
the last strong I'm not saying that. I just think
that what they've wanted to see out of him, they
haven't seen it all the way as far as you know,
they know we can rutch the past, but there's other
elements involved, and I think this whole process hasn't been good,
you know, to see some of those things. Let's go
to Dylan in Northport, Florida. How are you doing?
Speaker 7 (36:19):
Hey?
Speaker 5 (36:19):
All right?
Speaker 14 (36:20):
So it was CJ.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
Koy was the guy that was released from the Ravens.
Really good there, So I think, I mean, they'd have
to be interested and honestly, if they were to move
on from somebody, I would keep winfree and I would
I don't know if they would do it, but I
would get rid of Mazi. I think Winfrey is better
than Mazi. He can play one three and five technique.
He had a nice pass rush move in the preseason
at five off the edge, so he gives you a
(36:43):
lot of flexibility there. And then you have a stout
one tech with with both Toya who looks like he's
going to get some snaps.
Speaker 6 (36:49):
And then uh, this.
Speaker 1 (36:50):
The cj Okoy guys. So that's who That's what he
was talking about. Hopefully they'd be interested in that.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
Well, they'll they'll be interesting. I mean, you know, they
got that. I have to figure that. I get that
he's not a player that's on my radar. Again, I
kind of like, would this show right here? This show
is gonna air, most people are gonna watch it, like
after the three o'clock stuff like that too, So like,
I don't really get into what's gonna happen. They're gonna
make some moves today surprise me the way I always say, like,
(37:17):
who is it? Are they better than what you've got?
The Mazzie thing? You know, I don't think he's he's
super safe as far as on the roster. I think
it was close, but I just because they go bring
a defensive tackle and I don't think that they necessarily
will cut a defensive tackle. I think, let me just
put it this way, I was told Mazzi's not fifty three.
(37:40):
He's not the fifty third guy on the roster. Now,
is he in the fifties? Maybe, but I don't think
he's fifty three. And I think you could go with
other positions there again, and going back to the Jalen
Brooks thing that someone just mentioned, you know, Jalen Brooks
might have a better shot of playing in the game
against the Eagles than Ryan Flinnoy and he's not on
(38:01):
the team. You know, that's part of the practice squad thing.
If you can get a guy to the practice squad,
you got to remember, out of your fifty three, seven
of them can't play. Out of your fifty three, seven
are inactive. And I know I'm talking not to you, Dylan,
because I think you know the rules more than me.
What I'm saying is is to everyone else, seven of
them have to be inactive. So that means you go
(38:21):
and keep forty six now you can take two from
the practice squad and they play in the game. So
there are some guys that they cut that have a
better shot of playing in the game than some of
the guys that they kept. And that's what's weird about
the whole situation.
Speaker 1 (38:35):
Sorry, yeah, that's all numbers games. They got to play
around and stuff. As far as the Michael Parsons stuff, And.
Speaker 14 (38:40):
I'll go quick.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
I got the people waiting.
Speaker 6 (38:42):
You know, they just.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Got to tell themselves this, Mischelle, I say, did he.
Speaker 6 (38:45):
Get better or worse?
Speaker 1 (38:46):
Are you close to a super Bowl run with this
team or are you not? Because if you think you're close,
which they made a move for George Pickens on a
one year deal, which tells me they think they're close.
If you move Michael Parsons off this team, fit's red
bull time to me, because you're you're telling your your
guys that listen, we can see more people, more people
than one or two guys at this point to compete.
And I've called twenty twenty five or building block here
(39:09):
for a long time. Here, I've been with that for
a while. I think if they had a really good
off season this year, good draft, I think we'll see,
but one more successful offseason with another good draft, I
think they could be contenders again, a top maybe three
or four team in the NFC. So if you trade
Michael Parsons away, you're not going to be that and
you're just hoping that these picks hit. So that's my
thoughts on that whole thing.
Speaker 4 (39:28):
Yeah, I agree, and thank thank you for the call, Dylan.
And this is why I think if the Cowboys were
to do a trade, I think that the key is
not going to necessarily be you know, the who you
trade it to and who you're trading them to, and
you know, wouldn't know where they're picking. I think the
(39:49):
biggest thing is going to be what player that you
get with them. You got to get a player in
two ones, and if the player can help you now,
a significant player that can help you now and maybe
offset what you have what you're losing. And I'm not
saying that you have to get a pass rusher. I'm
just saying, you know, another player, an impact player plus
(40:11):
two picks. I mean, I think if they get a player,
then they're interested. But and that's and that's that's a change.
I didn't never I never thought they might even entertain
and again, this all could be for not I mean,
it could just be the game that's being played. All right,
let's go to Irwin in Colorado.
Speaker 10 (40:32):
Hey, Nick, how are you doing good?
Speaker 4 (40:34):
How are you doing doing great?
Speaker 7 (40:36):
Hey?
Speaker 14 (40:37):
I just wanted to touch bases a little bit with some
folks have been talking about and you have one call
around there who was saying that absolutely wasn't going to happen.
I absolutely think that it possibly could happen. I'm not
saying that it will, but it could happen. And there's
a couple of scenarios that I was kind of looking
at that think about a team like I'm just saying,
maybe the Raiders who happened to have a player who
(41:01):
I believe the Cowboys kind of wanted, and we all
know the Cowboys that kind of been wanting a running
back for a while, So why not go and try
to look at the possibilities of trading to the Raiders
for a draft pick, also a high draft pick, first
round pick, and then possibly that running back that they
picked that everybody knows about impact running back. And I mean,
(41:25):
that was such a bad look that Parsons did the
other night against the Feltons when he was laying on
the table with his eyes closed while the players were playing,
and I know he said it was just a split moment.
The perception is reality, and everybody saw that, and it
almost actually looked a little koish, you know if you
(41:47):
think about it.
Speaker 5 (41:48):
And kind of wanted to get.
Speaker 14 (41:49):
Your thoughts on that.
Speaker 4 (41:50):
Yeah, and I've said it, honestly, I've kind of I
think I've said enough on that part, but you know,
I agree with you there. And then on the trade,
it's possible. I mean, I didn't think it would be.
And I still I'm just gonna let me, let me
just read it. I still think I would be shocked
if it happens. I was still not just surprised. I'll
(42:13):
be shocked if Jerry Jones trades Michael Parsons, I'll be shocked.
Is it Is it something that could happen. Let's just say,
let's just be cute here. I think it's on the table.
So that's That's kind of the theme of the last
week has been on the table. Let's go to our
another break here on Cowboys storyline and be right back

To Cowboys storyline it all right. This segment is presented
by Yetti Officially licensed Yettie Cowboys Gears now available at stadium,
pro shops, concession and on YETI dot Com. Let's go
to one more caller, Robin Vegas. What's up, Hey, Mack,
(43:57):
Hey Rob? Are we from New York? Yeah?
Speaker 9 (44:02):
Going good? I thought Joe from New York was pretty
much spot on. When you got a quarterback like Dak
paying them sixty million, the playoffs should be a given.
If everybody stays healthy, this team should be shooting for
more than that. And unfortunately Jerry didn't. You know, he
goes to the edge. But the days of pushing the
(44:23):
chips in the middle to are over.
Speaker 3 (44:26):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (44:27):
This team the only you know, the only thing they
really upgraded was Pickens. Everything else is a mystery. The
running game, the offensive line. And that's why, unfortunately, I
think Philadelphia is is going to be a beatdown. And
it's only because what they do really good. We don't
do good. We don't stop the run, and they're gonna
(44:49):
they're gonna rush to pass like crazy, and they're.
Speaker 7 (44:51):
Going to run the ball.
Speaker 9 (44:52):
And and this Mike is barely out there. If he's
out there at one hundred percent, I didn't like our chances.
If he's barely out there. I really don't like talking
about Micahah, Michah. I think he he thought he was
friends with Jerry. You know, they hung out in the box,
and I think he thought, now Jerry's going to take
(45:13):
care of me. And I think what he he blew
it in a way where Jerry made him an offer.
You know, I'm just gonna go by what I heard,
and Mike said, there, that sounds good, and then his
agent somehow said no, I think we could do better.
That rubbed Jerry the wrong way. And Jerry's like, dude,
(45:34):
do you understand I got you for three years. You
keep hearing Jerry say that, right, He says it all
the time. I have you for three years. And Michaeh,
laying on the table looked foolish. I don't want to
hear loyalty. He sat out a full year in college
because he didn't want to get hurt to go in
the draft. So there's no loyalty. It's all about money.
Speaker 7 (45:56):
He's got.
Speaker 9 (45:56):
Nobody's loyal to nobody anymore with this kind of money.
But I just think Micah just blew it with that
trading him. You know, I go back and forth. Sure,
if Jimmy Johnson was here, I trade him tomorrow because
I know Jimmy would build this team because they off
a couple of pieces away, but it's not Jimmy's not here,
(46:20):
so I don't trust if they got the picks, even
though it sounds great, give me two number ones, a
number three of a starter and the money. You know.
So I think Joe said, well, they'll say forty five million.
What do you think they're gonna do it. They're gonna
do nothing with it. They got thirty something million dollars
right now that they haven't spent. This team is a
(46:40):
few people defensive tackle away from being a really good team.
In my eyes, you cannot get that now. The time
to build a team was months ago. Whatever you're going
to get now is going to just be a guy
of bodies. Maybe a little better than Mazzi, who knows,
(47:00):
but unfortunately, well stuck where we're at. I think we're
probably looking at a nine win season. I just don't
see them, you know, I agree that everybody seems like
they've gotten better.
Speaker 6 (47:12):
The Rams.
Speaker 9 (47:13):
I just think that everybody's better, and I don't know
if we have better. We have so many injuries to
start the season off. We got some of our best
players are not going to be on the field and
pickings as great as he looks, I don't know if
you could beat Philadelphia, Like you said, how do you
close that gap with one wide receiver?
Speaker 7 (47:37):
You know, I just don't.
Speaker 9 (47:38):
I just don't see it. And but listen, we're here
for the ride. See what happens. You know, I'm I'm
a Cowboys fan time.
Speaker 4 (47:48):
Right, and I'll say this, you're you're you know what
the Cowboys are, and you're like, I don't know if
we're better. But you look at these other teams. I mean, honestly,
you don't know if they're better either, Like, we don't
really know what some of these other teams are.
Speaker 9 (48:00):
I hope that Philadelphia has the Super Bowl hangover. You
gotta you gotta hope that they got a new offensive
coordinator and maybe he wants to make Jalen Hurts a passer.
That would be that would be great for us. But
if they if they're going to play like they did
last year, run the ball, then we're in trouble because
we have not fixed that. I don't know what all
(48:21):
linebackers are going to do. I don't know. You know,
Winfrey looks good, but come on, he came out of nowhere.
So how good is he you know, preseason?
Speaker 7 (48:34):
Yeah, I mean that's what you.
Speaker 4 (48:35):
Hope, that's what you hope.
Speaker 6 (48:39):
We we got all.
Speaker 4 (48:39):
Right, But let's just not say that UFL guys can't
can't contribute. We've seen it, We've seen it happen.
Speaker 9 (48:44):
No, no, no, no, I'm not saying he can't contribute.
Speaker 14 (48:46):
But he's gonna be.
Speaker 4 (48:48):
You know, now, you I get it.
Speaker 9 (48:50):
You're in the big You're in the big leagues.
Speaker 10 (48:52):
Now, I get it.
Speaker 4 (48:53):
He's not the savior. He was close. He was close
to not making the team. I'll be honest. I mean
there were there was a report minutes before the draft,
before the deadline that he was cut. So it was
all it was all there, Rob Plaid.
Speaker 9 (49:05):
I'm glady, good, I'm glady.
Speaker 4 (49:06):
Yeah, we got it. We got a roll, man. I
appreciate you calling getting in. I know the fans love
to hear from you as well, so your opinion definitely
matters and I appreciate you calling. That's a good way
to wrap up the show. We got to get it rolling.
Remember this is our first day of all the shows,
so it's just one after another Cowboys break. We'll be
coming up here after this so we got to get
in and get out. But again we'll be here tomorrow
(49:28):
ten am and do it all over again. Hope to
hear from you, guys. It was good to hear some
of these names that I haven't seen in a while.
