The following.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
He's a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the
Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
This is Cowboys Storyline presented by Gillette, the official shave
of the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Here's Nick Eatman. What's up.
Speaker 4 (00:25):
Good morning everyone, Welcome to Cowboys Storyline. It is Thursday,
September eleventh. I'm Nick Eatman. It's time to do this
talk a little bit about Cowboys, football, cowboys and giants.
You know what, let me just say I don't like
the gloss over that just to say, oh, it's September eleventh.
Obviously for anybody my age and you have to you know,
(00:49):
even people that were really young, everyone remembers where they
were September eleventh, So to just kind of pass over that,
like we moved on. Obviously, we'll never forget that, our
lives changed forever. I know my kids bring that they've
brought home. My son has something they had to fill
out and wanted to interview me on that, and it
kind of brought back some memories. But yeah, certainly did
(01:12):
want to just pass over that. I think that'll be
a time we'll always remember and as sad as it was,
so I just want to mention that especially playing New
York Cowboys Giants not in New York, but still, that's
that's obviously going to be a big moment for everyone.
It always is every time September eleventh rolls around. All right,
(01:33):
let's get to the show, Brian and Kansas City's first off,
So let's go right to it.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Brian, what's up?
Speaker 5 (01:39):
Good morning, sir, How are you good?
Speaker 1 (01:40):
How are you?
Speaker 5 (01:42):
I'm doing all right, man, Yeah, it's a yeah, it's
definitely a day that anybody in our generation, like you said,
you just will never never forget where you were when
when that on this day.
Speaker 6 (01:56):
Definitely we're.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Anyway, Yeah, how you bring down the show, we can
we can move on. But but ye, and we don't
have to keep bringing it up.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
But I just said, when you throw the date out there,
I thought it had to be mentioned.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
So anyways, all right, yeh.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
Suir, Yeah, absolutely. Hey, you know the I was thinking
about for this game people that had played for both
teams and wondered if you had a story on Martellus Bennett.
And I'll give my prediction. I don't think I'll be
able to call in tomorrow. I'm going with Cowboys twenty
(02:34):
five Giants twelve. I think the Cowboys have this one
in the bag. We're gonna we'll play up. We'll play
up to our level instead of down to the competition
this time.
Speaker 7 (02:44):
Huh.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
All right, sounds great.
Speaker 5 (02:46):
That's good for me, man.
Speaker 7 (02:47):
I'll talk to you.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
Later, all right. Thanks tell us. Bennett. You know.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
One of those guys that I thought early in his
career loved what football gave him more than he loved football.
It's not a bad thing. It happens more than you think,
I think. But but I think over time he got better.
(03:16):
I think he's, you know, the older brother. Both you know,
played for the for the Cowboys too for a little bit,
Michael Bennett, and I think they you know, I think
he grew up and matured and he became a pretty
good player.
Speaker 8 (03:27):
I know.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
One time I was at the Pro Bowl with this
is the year the Cowboys coaches were there. It might
have been twenty fourteen, and I remember he was with
the Bears made the Pro Bowl, I believe, but he
was hanging out with the Giants people because he was
with the Giants, like you said, and so he was
(03:47):
with the Bears wearing a Bears thing, and he was
with the Giants and then he walks by and he
sees me and he's like, hey, what's up. He's like, man,
I've been on a lot of damn teams.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
You know. It was just kind of a funny moment.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
But yeah, it's good for him to be able to
kind of you know, he grew his career and he'd
be a pretty good player. I'll to this day, I'll
never back down from it. If he if he would
have gained twenty pounds, he could have been an all
Pro left tackle, and he didn't want to do that
because they don't get the ball, but they get the money.
I think he could have been I think it had
(04:19):
been great left tackle. I mean, he's not that much
different really looking than Tyler Geyton. He could have gained
a little bit of weight and I think he could
have done it. But anyways, he was good. He was
a good player. He probably he probably put about five
more years into Jason Witten's career because Jason Witten was
not going to let him come take his job and
(04:41):
that kind of drove him there too, all right, Gary
In New Mexico's.
Speaker 9 (04:45):
Next, Hey, Nick got a trivia question for you? Now?
Speaker 5 (04:49):
Uh oh, yes, Okay, here we go.
Speaker 9 (04:51):
All right, Cowboy Giants week, I'll give you an easy
one for your wheelhouse here. Nineteen eighty six season opener,
Giants at Cowboys. Cowboys win thirty one twenty eight herschel
Walker's debut. You remember the game?
Speaker 4 (05:03):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (05:04):
So?
Speaker 9 (05:04):
Herschel Walker scores two touchdowns, including the game winner. Tony
Dorsett scored the first one. The trivia question who scored
the other touchdown for the Cowboys in that game?
Speaker 7 (05:13):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (05:13):
Man, God, I knew I would get you.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Yeah, Yeah, I'm just gonna this is going to be
a guess. This is straight. Yes, Doug Cosby or Mike Chirard.
Those are the only two I could think of, now,
I mean.
Speaker 9 (05:30):
You were close on Cosby. It was a tied end.
Speaker 7 (05:32):
It was Thorn.
Speaker 9 (05:33):
Chandler, number eighty five, rookie year. Yeah, later changed his number,
but yeah, Thornton Chandler out of Alabama, probably one of
Bear Bryant's last recruits. He played all four years in college.
Don't know anyway, So got.
Speaker 7 (05:47):
The trivia out of the way.
Speaker 9 (05:49):
I'm no less excited about this team after last week.
I'm just as excited. There's a lot of good stuff
I saw last week, and the things I didn't like
I think are correctable, so we'll see where they go.
My question to you is who are you rooting for tonight?
Because I've got two favorite teams, Dallas and whoever plays
green Bay? But green Bay's play but green Bay's playing Washington,
(06:11):
So I'm kind of torn about who to root for.
But that aside, give me your thoughts on this week's game.
What do you realistically think they can do against the
Giants this week? And I'll hang up and listen.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
All right, thanks? Great, great call, got me on the
on the trivia question. I can remember middle of the game,
you know, I mean I mean I mean into the
game and maybe first of the game, but I didn't
know about that other touchdown.
Speaker 8 (06:34):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
It was always the Herds for Walker play. That's the
one that that kind of mattered the most. And and
uh had a couple of touchdowns in that one. This
this game coming up, and I think we should, you know,
got to point out the injury news that that happened.
If you haven't already seen and heard about Deron Bland
out again or he's not officially been ruled out, but
(06:55):
it does look like he's going to miss this game
and maybe a couple more with a foot injury, we'll
see if it's going to be enough to put them
on injured on put him on injured reserve. I think
he's the type of player how good he is that
if it's a three week injury, I'm not putting him
on injured reserve because that means he has to be
(07:17):
out four because just getting him for one game is
worth it for me, especially how close these games are
going to be and how good I think he is.
So he could be an active for three weeks and
you don't get another roster spot. You can figure it
out with the practice squad guys and move them up
and all that. But if he can play in the
(07:38):
fourth game, it's worth it for me to keep him there.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
That's my opinion.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
I don't know if the Cowboys feel the same way,
but I just think that's how good he is. So
to answer the question Gary about what they can do,
you know, I think it starts with that part of
the corners. Who's going to play corner for them? Now,
if you could pick a game, this could be a
kiss of death. But if you could pick a game
where you're gonna be a little bit shorthanded at corner.
(08:03):
Not gonna have your best I mean, maybe it is
the Giants. They don't throw the ball well that they
didn't in that first game. They don't, you know, have
elite neighbors. He's a really good player, but you're gonna
have to, you know, figure, you know, you have to
cover him. But you saw it last year and they
didn't have darn Bland. I remember it was over Warrier
had a game winning, in clinching interception at the end
(08:25):
of the game. So I think, you know, I think
they can get it covered. This isn't one where they're
playing the Bengals where they got you know, two great
receivers with the Eagles for that matter. But that's gonna
be the big key. I think it's just just how
the cornerback situation goes and who plays in there. I think,
you know, do they go with Ready Stewart Stewart inside?
As as the nickel guide, do they bring up Zion
(08:47):
Childress put him in there, and maybe a combination of both.
They both could actually be active in this game. All right,
let's go to Sebastian's and Savannah Georgia.
Speaker 10 (08:56):
Sebastian, what's up good morning, sir. I am on fine.
Speaker 11 (09:00):
I hope you're doing well.
Speaker 10 (09:01):
Also, I need to make a quick correction for my
predictions of the playoffs yesterday. It goes the first round
we win, the second round we beat the Eagles, and
then the third round we played Green Bay. But as
far as the game predictions for this week goes, I
got this going thirty eight seventeen. In the fourth quarter
for four minutes, we're gonna be pcing Joe Milton and
Dak on the side with a hat on. They're gonna
(09:22):
put him in and let him get a cup, a
nice little drive in there.
Speaker 11 (09:24):
It'll be thirty five to.
Speaker 10 (09:25):
Ten at the time. Go go ahead, put a nice
drive together, get three points. We'll see some confidence inspiring things.
Move on to the next week's game. I think that
they scored that last touchdown because, like you said, d
ron Bland is down and when our fourth ring cornerback
comes in, they'll get that last second garbage touchdown to
make it not thirty eight to ten, it'll be thirty
eight seventeen.
Speaker 7 (09:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
A great day, And I like, get a listen, okay,
I mean, I mean just the specifics of everything. Everything
is exactly how how you got it mapped out. I
like it, boy. It would be nice have a game
like that. It really would to be able to play
some younger guys and get them in there. And everyone
(10:07):
wants to see Illinois and you know so, but this
is a seven to ten football team last year and
right now they're oh and one. So I think for me,
I I think that you know they'll win this game,
but it's I'm uncomfortable by saying they're going to blow
(10:28):
them out and let's play young guys. And you know,
this isn't This isn't college where you know, Alabama's taking
on Louisiana and Roe or something like that. I mean,
this is not this is the Giants. This is a
team that that played them well, almost beat them the
first time around. Second game, you know, maybe not not
as close, and I understand Dak's success against them, but
(10:49):
at the same time, I you know, we'll we'll just see.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
I have to believe it.
Speaker 8 (10:53):
First.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Yes, I think the Cowboys will win.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
And it's fine that you guys called in to do
that and that's your prediction and you probably will be right,
but you know, until we've seen I mean, we haven't
seen the Cowboys win a game. We haven't seen this
team win a game, and so let's let's see. Let's
see what happens. They're gonna have to go out there
and get the job done. I think that they will.
I thought it was very encouraging from what they saw
last week. But I'm just I'm just not there to
(11:18):
be talking about backups and all this kind of stuff
because it could very well go into the fourth quarter.
Is a very tough game. I'm not sure this team.
We'll see if they're good enough to be blowing teams out.
I mean, they were good enough to score two touchdowns
against the Eagles, but then the Eagles figured it out
and they didn't score anymore touchdowns. So let's see. Do
the Giants have it figured out too? Do they know
(11:40):
how to play them? Can they do that?
Speaker 7 (11:43):
Well?
Speaker 1 (11:44):
We'll see.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
Every game is different, but I'm definitely excited about it.
I know you guys are too. Let's go to Blair.
He's in Newport News, Virginia.
Speaker 9 (11:53):
Hey, Nick, I.
Speaker 12 (11:54):
Want to go a little bit of different directions. So
I'm trying to work myself off to practice squad and
back onto the roster for the storyline team. In terms
of storyline. I mean, the biggest storyline for me is
the play calling of Shoddy. During the entire preseason, it
was all vanilla. We didn't know what to expect. We
(12:16):
got a little bit of a glimpse of what we're
going to see last week, but the real question is
how much are we going to see each week based
on our fifty three and the team we're facing until
we get an idea of what kind of play caller
Shoddy really is. And to me, that's exciting to see.
And yeah, I don't know about the score this week.
I'm like you, I'm a little bit more cautious because
(12:38):
it's a division game and we really are facing some
unique challenges each week. So I have for like a
twenty twenty seven sixteen. I know that doesn't sound close,
but I kind of feel like we can score. But
I think the Giants are formidable and I just hope
we come out with a win.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
No, I'm definitely with you on that one, because I
think I didn't watch the Giants Washington game, but I
think it was one of those games where twenty one
to six, but going into the fourth quarter was still,
you know, relatively close, so it could be a game
like that, for sure, their defense is going to keep
a minute.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
I mean their defense.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
I mean, I still think that that they've got some
really great talent there, some great pass rushers. So that's
going to give the Cowboys some problems.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
It has to.
Speaker 9 (13:31):
I agree.
Speaker 12 (13:32):
And as far as the Mica storyline, to me, I
know you mentioned earlier this week that he has time
to put kind of move on from that. But because
that game is so close in basicly basically you know,
three games where two games away, you can't help but
have it in your mind how he's going to perform
(13:52):
and are we going to be ready to face him
and is he going to.
Speaker 7 (13:55):
Be back to his.
Speaker 12 (13:58):
Back to full health, full strength. That makes me nervous,
but it's still on the horizon, and I guess it'll
be a luxury if we can worry about that. I mean,
I hope we I hope we're competitive, and I hope
we play strong all the way up through that and
into the postseason.
Speaker 4 (14:13):
Yeah, okay, all right, Blair, Well I appreciate that. I mean, uh,
you know, you you've got your eye on the prize
there with the Giants, there's no doubt about it. But
we all know that game's there. I mean, everybody knows
it that that Mike and the Packers are coming in.
But I mean, you know the Bears. They play the
(14:34):
Lions this week. Both teams are oh and one. Surprisingly
oh and one, one of those teams is going to
be oh and two. And then that that game's at Detroit,
so very good chance that Detroit wins that game. Now
you're going to be facing regardless of what you are,
you can be facing an oh and two Bears team.
(14:54):
That would be a huge challenge I think, to go
and try to and win that game. So there's all
lot here in front of this game. I mean that
that Green Bay game is going to be it's gonna
be huge. And it's not just Micah. I mean, look
at their defense. I mean those other guys played really
really well, So I think they they've got they've got
(15:14):
it going on over there. So that'll be fun. And
you know that atmosphere is going to be crazy and
there'll be a lot of green, a lot of yellow
in that stadium. It just they just will. But first
things first, you got to take on the Giants. Take
it on a team that that you know they they're
they're wounded as well. They didn't play that that great
(15:36):
that first game and going on into in the division
is is.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
I mean, it's it's horrible. You can't do that.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
So somebody's gonna it's gonna happen to somebody, and so
the guy, we's got to make sure it's not them,
all right, Josh, And Princeton, Texas is next, Josh?
Speaker 1 (15:51):
What's up?
Speaker 11 (15:53):
What's going on?
Speaker 13 (15:53):
Nick?
Speaker 1 (15:54):
How are you doing? Man?
Speaker 14 (15:55):
I'm going good. It was definitely a coincidence that I
brought up run blocking after Dylan, because I definitely didn't.
Speaker 10 (16:03):
Hear that call.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
I never remember that.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
I was like, you know what, that's I love the
show because everybody watches the same football game, everyone sees
the same stuff and all the news and all that
their interpretation of it is different. That's what's making that's
what makes sports so up so unique and and well,
I guess you could say the same about movies and
music and all that. Everyone has different tastes, everyone views
(16:25):
it differently. But I thought it was ironic that both
of you guys had different different thoughts on the same thing.
Speaker 9 (16:30):
Yep.
Speaker 14 (16:31):
And just to clarify what I was saying, obviously, you know,
if a run players called, you want to rip receivers,
say at least getting the way and block. Like, I'm
not saying that they don't need to, they need to
disregard it. What I'm saying is, if at the end
of the day, the run game is a failure or
it's not good, I'm not looking at the wide receivers
they weighed down on the list before I start to
(16:52):
try to diagnose the run game problems. That's that's all
I was saying. But I mean, obviously, if a run
players call, you have to, you know, at least do
your right. So what I want to call it about
today is that I'm hearing a lot of deep philosophical
takes about Jayden Blue versus Miles Sanders. To me, it's simple,
(17:13):
you know, don't overthink it. Play the young guy. Miles
Sanders doesn't hurt you on the salary cap. I mean,
he's insurance for sure, But see what you got in
a young guy, and just don't overthink it. And that's
all I ask for today.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
All Right, Well, thanks for the call, Josh. You know what,
you do have to overthink it a little bit because
it's not it's not just running the football. If if
it was just that, then sure you put him in there,
but it's it's not just trusting him to hang on
to the football and make the right cut and all
(17:48):
that kind of stuff. If he's thinking that the blitz
is coming over here, but it's actually coming over here,
and Dak expects him to pick it up over here,
but blues over there and he throws a pass and
he gets hit and get gets up looking out his
(18:09):
ear hole. That's a problem. And so and I've seen it, like,
it's not just something that could happen. We saw it,
and I like throwing a guy under the bus whatever,
But we saw it in two thousand and ten. Okay,
it's been fifteen years, but they had a rookie fullback
named Chris Gronkowski, the younger brother, not as good as you,
(18:29):
brother as his as his Hall of Fame tight end brother,
Rob Gronkowski, And he got the wrong guy and the
Giants guy came through, put Romo down, broke his collar bone.
The season was over, and the whole season was over
as well there as well. So my point is is
that rookies, it matters, and so he's got to make
(18:51):
sure that the Cowleys have to make sure that he
knows everything he's supposed to do, not just sit there
and run the ball and try to get touchdowns and
things like that. That's why if you remember, Tony Pollard
played some, but he didn't play a lot, and he
and he played mostly there at the end of the
game when they were gonna run the ball and all that.
But his rookie year, they had to figure that that
(19:12):
part out too, because Zeke did everything better than Pollard.
You know, he ran short, short yardage, he could he
at that time, he still was pretty good, you know,
home run hitter type guy, could still get twenty thirty
big explosive runs, and he was certainly the best pass blocker.
And it got to a point where Pollard had to get,
you know, almost just as good at that and then
(19:35):
he was, you know, he was a better runner and
some other things. So right now, all I'm saying is is,
you know, I think Javonte Williams is still your best
guy in a lot of your areas. Miles Sanders can
come and give him a break. Let's see if Jayden
Blue has done the necessary things to kind of get
to that level too. Let's go to a Sergeant Seue
and Fort Worth is next?
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Good? Good? What's up?
Speaker 8 (19:57):
Okay, I'm gonna say this seriously this time at ease,
every buddy, because I feel like a lot of people
are like, may maybe we're confident, and y'all know me,
I'm a positive guy and I always want to be positive.
But we can't just completely overlook the giants. Not that
they're amazing or anything like that, but there's a lot
of stuff that we have to clean up, you know
what I mean? And I think it's Sebastian and correct
(20:17):
me if I'm wrong making And I do want to
say Sebastian is one of my favorite callers if that
is his name, the one with the crystal ball. But man,
if there is a scenario where there's four minutes left
and Dak is on the sideline, Milton, you know, that's
a scenario that I can't imagine because as a coaching staff,
you have to look at your last game and realize, like, hey,
we had drops, we had a fumble, we had containment issues,
(20:40):
we had rush rush lane issues, like we have we're
down in a corner now like we have we have
to take this. If there if there is a scenario
where you're doing well and you're controlling the football game,
and then maybe you start working on things that you
didn't do well last season. I mean, I'm sorry last game.
You know we've mentioned that, you know, three minute offense
was something that I don't feel like was executed well.
So I feel like as a coaching staff, if you
(21:02):
do find yourself up, you know, significantly, maybe your mindset
doesn't shift to let's evaluate these young players or let's
get these guys of rest. I think the mindset should
be in my opinion, Who am I I'm just some guy,
but I think the either the mindset should be, you know,
let's evaluate how we handle certain scenarios and situations that
we didn't handle well last week, you know what I mean.
(21:23):
And again, that's that's if we put ourselves in the
situation to have that luxury. Because you know, the Giants
are still an NFL team. You know, they still have weapons.
I think they have sneaky good wide receivers, you know
what I mean. So with us being a little bit
weak at corner. You know, I'm not saying that we're gonna,
you know, not win the game. I'll call tomorrow hopefully
and get my prediction in. But I'm just saying at
ease everybody, And that's all I got to say. Nick,
appreciate it, brothers.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
All right, thank you for the call.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
Yeah, I would like to see, you know, a lot
of those different scenarios. I think one thing that that's
good for the Cowboys as far as the offense is.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
You know, it is one one game.
Speaker 4 (21:58):
But we did hear, you know a little bit about
Pickens like why didn't he get the ball more and shot?
He said, well, it's it's every game. You know, it'll
be week to week. Dack will talk today, He'll he'll
say that, you know, I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm not
gonna go out of my way to try to get
anybody to the ball, but you know, I'll go with
my reads. But you know, and then you so I
do think though they say that, but I still think
(22:19):
you'll see Pickings more involved.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
There.
Speaker 4 (22:21):
You got a receiver on the other side that is
probably pretty pissed off. You know at the narrative of
here he is dropping passes. He's better than that.
Speaker 8 (22:32):
He knows.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
I mean, he's one of the best wide receivers in
the game. Everyone knows that, and he's got to go
out there he's gonna have something to prove as well.
You know, he's gonna he's gonna want he's gonna want
the football. He's not gonna want anything to hit his
hands and not be a catch. So I think you
got both receivers. They're gonna try to make some plays.
That's a good thing, you know, that's a good thing.
I think this offense can can really uh, you know,
(22:55):
move the ball, and if that happens, I think that
they'll score more than the Giants. E. I just think
that Johns will have a hard time keeping up. But
we'll see. That's just kind of what I think right now.
Let's go to break real quick on Cowboys storyline. We'll
be right back.

Speaker 4 (24:54):
This segment is presented by Yeti officially licensed Yetti Cowboys gears,
now available at Stadium pro shops can Yeti dot com.
All right, back here on Cowboys storyline. The storyline right
now for for this team is doron Bland. Looks like
he's going to be out for a game or two,
(25:15):
maybe a little longer.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
It's got a foot injury.
Speaker 4 (25:17):
We're gonna know more about it but right now, and
I think that because of the injury rules and the
i R, we'll find out exactly kind of what they
do based off of We'll find out sorry, how severe
it is with what they do, because if they if
they say, well we'll put him on IR, then we
(25:37):
know looks like a four week injury or so if
they don't do that this week, then that means they
think like he could probably get back before that window,
which is obviously a good thing. All right, Lester in
Minnesota is next up?
Speaker 18 (25:54):
How you doing that?
Speaker 1 (25:55):
How are you doing?
Speaker 18 (25:57):
I'm doing well?
Speaker 7 (25:58):
Man?
Speaker 18 (25:59):
Hey, I agree we shouldn't take any team for granted.
So my score for the the game this week would
be twenty seven seventeen Cowboys. Okay, but I have a
question about our cornerback situation. I know Bland is out
(26:20):
for the game or two or three? Are they're gonna
put them on I R or just gonna be out there?
And who who's gonna take? You know, what's what's our
lineup gonna be like? And uh, I know Clowney one
more thing. I know Clowney was in the building yesterday.
Are we in up viewing anyone else or looking at
(26:41):
anyone else as far as D N and d D
tackle And that's.
Speaker 7 (26:47):
All I have.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
Okay, all right, thanks Lester. Let's go to cornerback first.
You might not have heard exactly right before the right
before you got on the air, I just kind of
mentioned that we'll see if they're going to put them
on IR that they haven't made that decision. That will
let us know just about how severe things are. I
I from what I've been told, they're not there yet
(27:10):
to do that with Bland. They don't think it's going
to be that severe, which is good news. They have
options inside. They could go with Ready Steward. He played
He's played two games once last week with the Eagles
against the Eagles. Sorry the one last season with the
Bears for one game with Eberflus, But he's a guy
(27:33):
that could play in the slot. They also could bring
up from the practice squads Ion Childress, so that that
would be another another option there. And you know the
other cornerbacks on the team, I'm obviously Digs and Kyrie
Elam would be starting. You got Trey quiz Bridges who
(27:55):
they picked up last week as well, So that would
be their their options if they want to do that,
go internally. And then as far as Jadevian clown he goes, Yes,
he was here yesterday. He left. I actually saw him
leave and I was like staring at him, like which
(28:16):
way is he going? And he went to the left,
which is where the hotel is, So maybe he's maybe
he's staying there.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
Maybe maybe he was going to the pro shop they
could be, or maybe it was just going to go
out on the Tolsto's plas out there and run run
routes and like a lot of the little kids do
and other people do.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
Hopefully he's at the.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
Hotel and from what from what I've heard there is
that it looks promising that they will sign him. That's
the last I've heard. Money's going to be a factor here.
And maybe it's a situation too of you know, he
he's on the team, it's probably just gonna be for
one year, which means every week that's going to be
a pretty sizable hit on your on your roster, on
(29:00):
your salary cap. And if he's not gonna be ready
to play this game, which probably won't be, then why
sign him and make him inactive and pay him that,
you know, so, it wouldn't surprise me if they maybe
got it done Monday. But we'll see again. Who knows
what his other options are. But last I heard that
(29:20):
it's trending like he will. He will join the team.
It's got to be a good fit for the Cowboy's
got to be a good fit for him. It seems
like it would be on both sides. We have a
text line question. Yes, text line is still open eight
one seven two nine zero three two, it's still alive.
And Jeff in Oregon, his question is do you think,
(29:44):
unlike Michael Irvin, CD's drops had to do with the
fear of getting hit? Yes, those drops, those drops over
them and fear is maybe not the right word, but
there were there were two of them. There were guys
right right there. He was about I mean he was
(30:04):
right over the middle. On actually three, if you want
to say that very last one, the deep ball in
fourth down, was a drop. Go ahead, call it a drop.
It's a catchable ball for a guy that is the
number one receiver on the team and he makes thirty
four million a year. It's definitely a catchable ball. It
would be a great play. It'd be on ESPN's Top
(30:24):
ten plays, maybe if they would have won the game.
But it was a great play but still catchable. The
other three I would I would say were drops, and
all of them were slants over the middle or you
know deep deep en routes or you know that.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
There's that third.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
One that was a weird play where two receivers in
the same either way looked like there was another guy
that he was about to hit him, so his eyes
were probably looking at him. So I don't know about
fear of getting hit, but expecting a hit, expecting collision,
trying to make a play before you you've secured the ball.
You know, those those things happen, So that that's what
(30:59):
I would say to that, to that answer, I don't
think CD lamb Is is scared of getting hit.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
Mean, he's he's a.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
Slender guy, but he's not afraid to run the football
in between the tackles. We've seen him play running back
for this team. He would seeing him go over the middle.
I don't think that's the right word. I just think, yeah,
he was, he was anticipating collision and and it didn't
have his eye on the ball.
Speaker 1 (31:22):
Uh. Greg, and Sacramento is our next.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
Caller, Hey, Nick Morn, how are you doing?
Speaker 1 (31:28):
Hey? Greg?
Speaker 8 (31:30):
Hey, So just two real quick things.
Speaker 7 (31:32):
I'll keep the short.
Speaker 18 (31:33):
The first one is I didn't get to connect with
you and training cap unfortunately, but I wanted to know
how can.
Speaker 11 (31:38):
I buy your book?
Speaker 3 (31:40):
I wanted I wanted to get your book at sees
walls to talk and I want to, you know, buy
it from somewhere and hopefully eventually get it get it.
Speaker 7 (31:45):
Signed by you.
Speaker 9 (31:46):
But but anyway, how how can I get How can
I do that?
Speaker 8 (31:49):
And then my football related question.
Speaker 12 (31:51):
Is what what player or.
Speaker 18 (31:54):
Position group do you think he needs to have the
most success in order for us to really eat the Giants.
Speaker 8 (32:02):
Week?
Speaker 7 (32:02):
And that's all I.
Speaker 4 (32:03):
Got all right, greg U, thank you for the call.
Let me you can there's different ways that we could
do that with the book.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
I will.
Speaker 4 (32:15):
I'll tell you what in the text right now on
the text line text the show text your your information
where we can contact you and h and I'll contact
you and we can discuss that. You can use that,
especially if we know it's coming. Use the text line
eight one seven two nine zero three two nine eight
your information where we can contact you and then I
(32:36):
can help you with That was as far as the
book goes.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
As far as.
Speaker 4 (32:40):
Position groups this week, you know it starts with corner
I mean that that's one that's banged up, and it's
it's just crazy how they just can't catch a break
that position. It's always one or the other.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
You know.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
It's like tag team wrestling, like the well, if you're out, okay,
then it's my turn to be. How about battle royal?
Like we want them all out there at the same time,
all the corners, all the healthy cornerbacks, please. So that's
the position, even though the Giants maybe don't have, you know,
all world receivers that when Elite nighbors is really good.
(33:17):
Robinson still the guy man I think he's still there,
and he caught ten passes last year against them, So anyways,
I think that's that's a position group for sure. And
then you know your offensive line has got to play
really well in this game because it doesn't matter what
matchup it is, you're gonna be facing a talented person.
(33:38):
You're gonna be facing a really good first round pick
type of guy or an all pro whatever. Dexter Lawrence
is as good as it gets a defensive tackle, so
that those guys are gonna have to be on point
in the middle. Obviously, Thibodeau is great, Brian Burns is great.
Abdul Carter young guy, He's gonna be great.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
We know that.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
So that offensive line and cornerback, that's as simple as that.
All right, Jeremy and Salt Lake City is our next caller.
Speaker 6 (34:09):
Hey, what's going on?
Speaker 7 (34:10):
Nick?
Speaker 6 (34:12):
I'm doing all right. I'm doing all right. Kind of
a rough day yesterday. I don't want to get a
pot of call. I just want to say, rip Charlie Kirk.
I know he's a Cowboys fan, is the biggest thing,
and it's always sad when the Cowboys fan goes down
that way. But anyway, onto football. I'm excited for the
game this Sunday. I think I think there's been a
(34:33):
lot of good points a lot of people are making.
I think our biggest I think our biggest test is
going to be obviously that defensive line, but our I
think our offensive line is kind of built for these
I think we've kind of went out and built this
offensive line to get past these teams, you know, Eagles.
(34:54):
I mean, as good as we looked against the Eagles,
I know they didn't have Carter in the middle, but
they still w toe to toe with them, and so
it gives me a lot of hope. But I also
feel like this is the game. This is a good,
get right game to where we get everything kicking on
all four cylinders and I'm forty to nothing. That's that's
(35:16):
what's going to be, just like last year. Man, We're
gonna have a good game. Often, everybody's gonna show up,
special teams, defense. I'm excited for this game because I
got a lot of Giants fans friends. But yeah, I
just I just don't see him losing this game at all.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
But all right, thanks, thank you.
Speaker 4 (35:35):
J appreciate the call. I don't know about forty to nothing.
But I never would would expect that. I would never
expect forty to nothing. That's why made that game so great. Yeah,
I mean you've said everything that you know that the
other guys that have said and we'll see if it's
(35:58):
a good right game or not. I mean it, it
could be has the makings of one. But they've got
to go out and if I've said it once, I've
said it a thousand times that that you know, today's
the day that you dominate the Giants Today, Thursday, that's
how you beat the Giants like you're supposed to beat
them yesterday. That's how you beat the Giants. It's it's
(36:22):
not about just going out on Sunday. It's about making
sure that they know exactly what to expect there when
they're facing the Giants D line. They know what kind
of routes that that Russell Wilson wants to throw, and
what receivers can do this and when the tied end
goes in motion, here this is what this means. It's
kind of hard to do that with just one game
(36:43):
under their belt, but you know you can. You can
figure out what preseason concepts and some of the routes
that are getting called and all that stuff. But it's
the middle of the week that you take care of
business and you get as prepared as you can be
to go out there and play, because I think if
the Cowboys play their best game, and I think if
the Giants play their best game, then you, yeah, these
scores of thirty eight seventeen, twenty seven, sixteen, twenty seven
(37:04):
to seventeen, all that makes sense, if not worse than that.
But when you're not as prepared, that's when games like
that happen. The text line is blowing up here. I
love it.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
It's like it's.
Speaker 4 (37:17):
Reborn Mike g from Corpus Christy. What are the thoughts
on picking's not going one hundred percent every play? I
don't have thoughts on that because I don't I don't
know that to be the case.
Speaker 1 (37:31):
I don't. I don't if that's if that's a thing.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
If that's something that's they're thrown out there on the
social media. I don't know if I've necessarily seen that.
Just uh, go make place, I mean, go go go
make plays.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
Get the ball.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
I mean, it's it's important to kind of keep those
receivers happy, both of them get it, because when they're
both getting the football making plays. I think this offense
can be really, really special. So I really don't have
thoughts on all that. Let's go to the phone lines here,
Chris and San Angelo.
Speaker 11 (38:04):
Mister Nick, how are you doing today, Budd?
Speaker 18 (38:07):
I'm doing well, thank you.
Speaker 11 (38:10):
As far as this coming game, the Cowboys should be
favored and this one, but I think it's going to
be a good test to come in under those circumstances
and then hopefully they won't get that wake up call,
you know, sometime in the second quarter that says, oh,
by the way, these guys were playing or you know,
professionals too, and the coach is probably on the hot seat.
(38:35):
So I'm guessing, and I'm guessing they're gonna if they
have to come in with some kind of fight in them.
And I mean, they're playing the Cowboys, and I've always
said there's two teams every year that have a target
on their back, one of them missed last year's Super
Bowl winner and the Dallas Cowboys for some.
Speaker 18 (38:56):
Reason, So no doubt I will.
Speaker 11 (39:00):
With all that being said, I still think they'll win.
I'll go ahead and pick the score to be thirty
two to twenty one, okay, and then I just oh,
and I just looked down saw that it is September eleventh.
I was going to ask you, I don't think i've
ever heard you say what you were doing when that happened,
(39:22):
and then I will hang up and listen.
Speaker 4 (39:24):
Okay, all right, sounds good. I don't know why I laughed.
It's not funny at all, but I just remember that story.
I'll say it before I go to break. It was
so obviously two thousand and one. It was like my
third year working for the Cowboys, and I remember we
had an intern that was as a college kid. He
(39:47):
was from U SMU and he called me and it
was like I was trying to like get ready in
the morning whatever, and he called me and he hit
me just like playing playing the abilding to ring to
come in. And I was like what. He's like, we're
plane at the building in New Yordy. Do I need
to come in?
Speaker 1 (40:03):
I was like, I was like, yes, just come on in,
let's see.
Speaker 7 (40:08):
You know.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
It was like not even sure what was going on.
And it turned on the TV.
Speaker 4 (40:11):
So I was just getting ready for work and turned
on the TV and uh, I can't remember if it
was I don't remember all the coverage. I don't remember
if you know, if if we had already seen the
second plane or not. I know when the first plane,
That's what I feel like was the first plane had hit,
and then that was enough to kind of get the
(40:32):
news going.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
And then and then I.
Speaker 4 (40:35):
Think I remember watching live the second one, and that's
when you knew that, you know, it was a different situation.
You know, it wasn't an accident or what or what happened,
this is this was something that was that was. It
was you know, horrific obviously, and I've seen I've seen
(40:55):
some you know, documentaries on it and things like that.
There's there's there's a couple that I've watched that are fascinating,
but you know, it's just heartbreaking and as uh as
I said, and to my son had to quote me
on it for his little paper, but I said, you know,
that day we became a much safer nation. It's unfortunate
(41:17):
that it took that to get there. But you know,
when you're thinking about travel and things like that, I mean,
it's obviously a much safer, but you know, too bad
that it got there. Again, I'm not trying to get politically.
Everyone has their own thoughts on that kind of stuff,
and I really don't want to go down that road,
but as far as that goes, And then I remember,
I remember the game. You know, we were supposed to
(41:37):
play the Lions that week, Week two, and that game
got moved to the end of the season, and so
it was the very very last game of the season.
But so they didn't play, you know, the game in
week two, and then week three they played the Chargers
and remember George t coming out with the with the
flag and they lost that game. But it was a
(41:59):
great year for the Cowboys. So that's this kind of
some of the memories that I have there. Let's let's
take a last break here on Cowboys storyline. Be right
back after this.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
All right, Cowboys fans, this one's for you.

Speaker 4 (43:21):
All right back here on Cowboys Storyline. Got a chance
to get a couple more text lines and a couple
more calls. Let's get Let's get a text line.
Speaker 1 (43:29):
Question.
Speaker 4 (43:29):
Alan and Phoenix wants to know if a reunion with
Cornerbacks Stefan Gilmour would be anyway possible? Yeah, possible. I
don't think the Cowboys feel like he his speed is
where it was even a couple of years ago. He
can still make plays. But I mean there's watch them
(43:54):
go ahead and sign them and then you know that'll happen.
But you know, he's an older cornerback, and I mean
that it's that's that's gonna be the issue there. He's
a very smart player, crafty, but you know, I think
that from an athletic standpoint, that there's the reason why
they haven't gone that way. And a lot of a
lot of times too, it's money for these guys, and
(44:14):
Bean Gilmore Clowney like, yeah, they'll come back and play,
but not not for this. It's gonna have to be
this money. And so that that's why you don't just
take a flyer on these guys. You gotta you gotta
pay him. And he asked the cowboys have the money
to do it. And but I think it's more about,
you know, is he is he the right fit for
what they're they're trying to do? Do they feel like
(44:34):
he can still play? Those are questions I'm sure that
they're asking themselves right now. All right, let's go to
Joe in Paradise, Texas.
Speaker 18 (44:43):
Hey, Nick, are you doing good?
Speaker 1 (44:45):
How are you doing?
Speaker 7 (44:46):
Man?
Speaker 18 (44:47):
You're prod of the show man I've been a f
thirty plus years and uh I even named my all
of a sudden.
Speaker 5 (44:54):
You know.
Speaker 14 (44:54):
So I'm a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys and.
Speaker 3 (44:59):
About this game on Sunday, I have feeling it all
comes down to the churches.
Speaker 7 (45:04):
You know.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
As a former coach, I always talk about the defensive line.
Speaker 18 (45:08):
You know, we win that line of scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (45:09):
We win this game on Sunday, And uh, I think
you know every you know, the defensive line will make
all those guys in the back, you know, the corner,
I mean, the linebackers, the safety, the corners, that the
defensive it all wints in and in that defense, that
that line.
Speaker 18 (45:24):
Of scrimmage we we make.
Speaker 14 (45:26):
The defensive line makes everybody looks everybody looks good. So
I believe that.
Speaker 3 (45:32):
We win.
Speaker 18 (45:33):
We win that line of scrimms to win this game.
Speaker 3 (45:34):
And I think we have the offensive line the way
they played against Philadelpia this past weekend.
Speaker 18 (45:40):
Uh, just watching film and watching.
Speaker 14 (45:42):
The city of our offensive line.
Speaker 18 (45:46):
We uh we got this game on Sunday. It's you know,
then Mart Games, I can never say thirty something to
zero or forty something because this Mart Games.
Speaker 3 (45:55):
It doesn't matter the record when when it's when, when
it's game time, it's the record don't matter or.
Speaker 18 (46:01):
Who's good or who it's a rivalry game.
Speaker 3 (46:04):
And I remember his rivory games back in the late eighties,
you know during out you know that all comes down
to that defense, defense win championship and offensive cell tickets.
So I believe in in our defense and our defense
will win that game.
Speaker 4 (46:19):
Plus, Joe, what did you name your your your son? Again,
I didn't hear that part. Okay, yeah, no, I'm familiar
with him. I didn't hear exactly what you said. All right,
sounds good. Well say hello to Emmett and uh, you're right,
thanks for the call, Joe. Yeah, I mean I believe
all of these games come down to that. I mean
(46:40):
I I really do. I think every game played tonight
in a high school stadium, Tomorrow night, Saturday, and then
Sunday if if you know when when you look at
these games, that's why you know the six A high
school team doesn't play the one A team because of
the line. Yeah, the one A guy, this small little school,
(47:02):
you know, they played both ways and they don't even
have a basketball team yet because all of them are
playing football. Those schools they still have athletes, but the
big guys they don't have that. And and and that's
that's what makes the difference in these games. That's what
makes the difference in every game, including the the NFL.
That if you're gonna just keep running the football, run
(47:23):
the football, then you won't ever throw. And so it
all comes down to that. And I believe that. I
think the All Cowboys offensive line has got to be
good enough to stop them. They're gonna have to be
good enough to run it and be balanced. The defensive
lines got to get after Russ. They got to you know,
they put the pressure there so the cornerbacks don't have
to cover long. If you think about that that game,
(47:45):
how much cover they didn't have covered sacks. But they
had a lot of games at a lot of plays
where the coverage was really good. You know, the line
just wasn't there, but they held up. I mean, for
for not getting home that much and not get a
lot of pass rush. The thing that DeVante Smith had
what two catches and aj Brown had won all of
it for like under twenty yards, that wasn't the problem.
(48:07):
And Goddard caught seven, but it was for forty you know,
So the secondary. I thought I did a good job.
That's gonna be an issue there, especially with a Bland
not playing. Another text line question, Mike from Houston, what's
the latest on demo Overshown looks pretty good in his
rehab stuff that we've seen, not even wearing a brace.
Speaker 1 (48:29):
Looking like.
Speaker 4 (48:32):
You know, so he's gonna he's gonna miss this game
and then the next two. That's what happens when you're
on PUP. You'll be out for the first four games
for sure. Then after that they can start the twenty
one day window if they want to. They don't have to,
they can wait on that. But whenever they start the window,
then then he'll start practicing and then they'll see where
(48:52):
he is. But they don't have to start it right out.
They don't have to do anything. He's on injured reserve
or PUP. He's on PUP for he could be on
there for the entire season. But it looks like just
looks like that after these four weeks, I could see him,
I could see the window being open, and I could
see him practicing maybe for another couple So you know,
(49:14):
this is what it looks for me obviously not a doctor,
but that's I would think he's I think he comes
back in plays before the halfway point of the season.
I think that that would happen. All right, let's go,
let's go one more call real quick, David from Browne.
Speaker 1 (49:30):
What's up man? How you doing?
Speaker 7 (49:32):
I'm doing great, brother. I've been a cowboy since sixty seven,
watching them with my dad as a kid. And we're
lose or draw or anything, I'll be a cowboy to
the day I pass on. Let me get to the
Let me get to my three observations quickly. Number one
on offense. When you're on offense, the Cowboys cannot be
(49:54):
just standing around not blocking if you're not getting that
play onto like like see he was getting the ball constantly.
You know the defense was going to be hoarding on him,
try trying to not let him catch the ball, which
they did. You know, Dallas and the offense coordinator, they
(50:14):
need to start targeting the rest of the players. You know,
if they're targeting one and not being able to do it,
they need they need to start getting the pieces that
they got and start running the ball.
Speaker 3 (50:25):
Better.
Speaker 7 (50:25):
Get those people on there, they're the best running backs,
and start the offensive the right way and go forward,
not a right.
Speaker 4 (50:35):
Okay, let's get those other two observations quickly, Sorry.
Speaker 7 (50:38):
David, Okay, no problem. The second one on the defense,
coach Vince Lombardi said, what you're doing out there? Why
are you tackling a two hundred and fifty two hundred
and sixty pound running back on the upper part of
the body. If you kick out of his legs, his ankles,
his knee, that man is going down. And why are
they waiting? We got safeties, we got linebackers. If you
(51:00):
the quarterback moving for right to left, why are you
standing to see where they're gonna run? And why do
you stand back there looking for those people offense to
come to you. No, you attack, just like Jimmy Johnson
used to say, you attack. Don't sit on your laurels
waiting to see what's going to develop. No, you attack,
you disrupt. And the other thing, the other observation very
(51:22):
quickly is the players is not a violent game. It's
the way the game is played. The thing needs that
players are getting old, they need to get regenerated. It's
called t cell regeneration. This regeneration starts within the body
with your own cells, and they reproduce what you're missing.
And what your body is degenerating. That's why we got
(51:43):
so many people on injured Reserve because their bodies are
getting older. Those are my three observations.
Speaker 4 (51:49):
Brother, and thanks all right, David, thanks for the call.
I don't even know how to touch that last one.
I'll say this, And Vince Lombardi was talking to a
guy that's two hundred and fifty pounds. I mean he
was probably talking to is like guard or center. But
I understand your your your point there, good stuff. Appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (52:07):
It is hard.
Speaker 4 (52:07):
We had to rush you on your on your first call,
but that's kind of where we were. We got Cowboys
break coming up and good good stuff. Twelve twelve calls
for text. Uh, we'll do it again tomorrow for Chris Beam.
I'm Nick Eatman. See you next time on Storyline.
Speaker 2 (52:19):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
