of the Dallas Cowboys. Here's Nick Eatman.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
What's up? Everyone? Welcome to Cowboys storyline presented by Gillette
Nick Eatman. It's Thursday, December eighteenth. Maybe you hear Chris
and Fasika and Josh in the back. I don't know,
but you'll definitely hear me here for the next forty
five minutes to an hour. We'll see how we'll see
how how you guys behave on this show today? Should
(00:46):
be should be some fun. I know you guys are
frustrated because of the way this season is gone. We
are a little bit frustrated. But it's Christmas, right man, Throa.
It sounds worse than I thought it did here on
the headset. That's all right. Let's power through here. Eight
A A eighty five two two ninety seven. Davion's on
the line, Davion, what's up?
Speaker 3 (01:07):
What to do?
Speaker 4 (01:08):
My boy?
Speaker 5 (01:08):
What it do going on?
Speaker 2 (01:10):
How you doing?
Speaker 6 (01:11):
Man?
Speaker 5 (01:12):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:14):
I'm all right, but you know, man, this summer we
came out, we kicked it half the fun up and
ox Or I had my hope really high. Yeah, and
then flust it hold my beer ruined everything for me.
Well hold on, now, I.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Mean there was also a trade in there too, like
you know what I mean. Let's yeah, I think I
think I think Flu's got the beer spilt for a
little bit there too, Like, let's not let's they poured
some of it out, like a really big piece of
the beer. So yeah, let's let's not forget that part.
(01:55):
Not saying, you know, we're bore one out for the homies,
but yeah, it was there.
Speaker 7 (02:00):
Yeah, it's rough.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
It's rough, man. I just I just I'm so distraught
over how the defense. I thought we had a solid
defense and we will just not get because we talked
about it last week. Do not let JJ McCarthy look good.
Just don't do it, and they just oh man, So
(02:24):
last three weeks, I'm just hoping, really just prayer for
my Christmas gifts. It's just nobody get hurt, no serious injuries.
Just uh, let's get to the next year and uh
with everybody pretty much healthy. Because you know, this past
week with Parsons and Paddy going down, just so it's Uh.
(02:47):
I don't want to see anybody on one of our
one of our good players go down like that. So
hopefully with everybody be good. I want to say this
week is if I don't get in tomorrow, I'll try
again tomorrow. But I won't get in tomorrow. This week
got the charge game should be. I don't big of
the win, what the hey, just will win it out
(03:07):
and see what happens. So big of the win, I
ain't even really got to score because with with Foof,
I just don't know. He might may just Herbert Loo
like Prime Patty out there, so I don't know.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Yeah, he is pretty good on his own, so yeah, right,
going for win thirty four thirty win, going for a win, man,
but let's get it okay, all right? Yeah, that's like
the epitome I think of all all the fans right now,
just just kind of defeated, still trying to be optimistic,
(03:47):
but just still defeated at the same time. It's being
a cowboy fan has been for a while now, all right.
Paul in Vancouver, Paul, what's up?
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Many are you good?
Speaker 2 (04:00):
How are you doing doing well?
Speaker 8 (04:02):
Thank you?
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Seen since Vegas?
Speaker 9 (04:04):
Yeah, barely made it an out of there to bed.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Darren Woodson's not here, thank you. We could show them
the video of the of the jersey, your Woodson jersey
that I devalued.
Speaker 9 (04:18):
No, I know you. I actually haven't prominently displayed anytime.
I don't mean to make bad radio, but you put
an inscription on it, and anytime somebody sees it in
the office, they're like, why would why would you write that?
And I tell them the actual story. The eighty percent
of people will see if they find it funny, about
twenty percent of their eyes.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
But I'll take that cool, We'll take eighty twenty.
Speaker 9 (04:38):
Yeah. Well, at first, I just want to wish you
a merry Christmas and everybody too, And you definitely made
my Christmas. And you know, I'm really enjoying the second book.
So I'm going to have to go for the hat
trick next next year, all.
Speaker 10 (04:51):
Right, with the bailor one.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Thank you. I appreciate that. So what you got me?
What are you feeling about this team?
Speaker 9 (05:00):
I'm mostly upbeat. I'm really happy with how Schottenheimer date
is first year, given everything, the issue of obviously, you
know four hundred there's a lot four hundred points with
three games up, which isn't good. So I'm not trying
to get into off season talk, but you guys have
talked a little bit on the show about, you know,
trading one of the draft picks. I'm just like, when
(05:22):
I think about it, I love the documentaries you guys do,
especially that five draft class. I'm like, if you got
two first round picks, you had two starters to this team,
and you have a plan on defense for next year,
feeling good about it. And yeah, even with two thousand
and eight when we had Felix and Mike Jenkins, I'd
argue that was a success because you had two starters,
(05:43):
one of them made the Pro Bowl for five years.
You know, add that to this team. You know, I'm
feeling good about it.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Yeah, No, I'm with you, you know what. Thanks, thanks Paul,
and thanks for the for the call. Mery Christmas to
you as well up north of the border Vancouver. But
you know, I'm kind of with you on that. Like,
without a second and a third round pick, you're sitting
here thinking, well, you know, surely they're going to do
something and have a pick on Friday. We're not just
(06:11):
gonna take Friday off in the draft. But two first
round picks. I'm with you, like draft use them, you
know what I mean, because when you think about the
second round and what they've done in the second round,
it's kind of always been a kind of a crapshoot,
you know, trying to steal value a little bit. I mean,
(06:35):
just look at the last few second round picks. Of course,
I'm why am I doing this? Oh? I wish I wasn't,
But all right, Donovan Azaraku could be a good player.
Marsha and Neeland rest in peace. I think was going
to be a good player for sure. Luke Scoonmaker hasn't
lived up to expectations. Sam Williams's playing okay this year,
(06:57):
but still hasn't hit those high marks yet. Kelvin Joseph Nope,
Drayvon Diggs, well, yeah he did. It was a good
That was a good pick. But now you know, obviously
he's not. He had a second contract, so that was
definitely a good pick. Connor McGovern, Connor Williams, cheatoh o'woozier,
Jaylen Smith, Randy Gregory. Now I'm back to DeMarcus Lawrence
(07:22):
twenty fourteen, so at Gavin Escobar before that, I also
rest in peace. So second that's second round. Now the
third round is probably about the same, it maybe worse.
So my point in that is, and you can make
the case for a first round, but that the first
round you have better chances to have a better player.
So I'm not sure if I really want to just
(07:43):
move back like that. You know, Now, now, maybe you
move that first pick back a little bit and then
add something. You're still getting two number ones. But let's
just say you're sitting at twelve and twenty two. I
don't know, I just made that up twelve and twenty two.
Maybe you moved back to nineteen in twenty two or
you know, something like that, and then whatever you did
to move back, you get a few more as well,
(08:06):
you know, maybe a second or third round from from there,
still picking two in the first round, but also getting more.
So either way, I mean, they'll, they'll, they'll definitely figure
it out. But I'm I'm with you about maybe, you know,
quit trying to take all these chances with second, third
round and stuff like that. This is already a pretty
young team. Why why do you get some some value?
I mean, because you lost some and Micah Parsons at
(08:27):
least get that back with a first round pick. All right,
Zach in Atlanta?
Speaker 5 (08:33):
Hey, what's up? Nick? And Frisco?
Speaker 2 (08:34):
How you doing?
Speaker 7 (08:36):
Okay?
Speaker 5 (08:37):
Man, I'm a longtime caller, but a first time listener
had no idea you had this whole show with Beam.
I thought we were just kind of catching up from
time to time throughout the week. But apparently there's a
whole storyline nation.
Speaker 11 (08:48):
Is that right?
Speaker 2 (08:49):
That is right? That is right where we're going with this.
Speaker 5 (08:53):
Here's where we're going with Tony Romo? Color blind? Because
why did we wear white uniforms and it still seems
like we wear white reforms all the time. I thought
he was colorblind when I was a kid. I was like,
can he not see the blue uniform in the end zone?
Speaker 12 (09:05):
Like?
Speaker 5 (09:05):
What was going on?
Speaker 8 (09:07):
All about?
Speaker 5 (09:07):
To say, Nick, this is kind of what I'd rather
talk about. This team is frustrating. I feel deflated. Like
all the other storyliners the bit aside, it's still keep Jeep.
I do want to make it work, but it's just
it's kind of it's kind of frustrating. Deck has been
healthy this whole season, and you just needed the defense
to be somewhere around the middle of the pack to
(09:29):
carry them for three or four wins, you know, So
it's just it's frustrating. We all feel it. But we've
got a few more games. I'm going to enjoy it
technically not eliminated. Anything can happen. This is the NFC East,
right There hasn't been a repeat winner in twenty something years,
So maybe that trend I think, yeah, yeah, But but
(09:53):
kind of on you know, draft picks and all that.
Do you have any idea of what our comp picks
are going to look like? I'm trying to think of
who we lost last year, where they're at now. I
know you're not yeah jazz about talking about the draft,
but I'll leave with that. Man, let's let's get a win.
Cowboys win thirty one twenty seven.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
All right, sounds good. I think it's out there. I'd
like it's projected picks. I don't know if they're always right,
but I think if you search that right now, Cowboys
comp picks for twenty twenty six, I think they have
projections based off of the players that they lost. The
(10:33):
max you can get is four, and I would imagine
the Cowboys are going to be close to that. When
you think about DeMarcus Lawrence, because they because what they
brought in. It's also the formula is kind of it's
always confusing, but it's it's about who you lost, and
then how much money that they signed for, and then
what what they kind of what they did as well,
(10:57):
and then also what you brought in off set that.
And you gotta remember, like Pickens and some of these
veterans are not free agents that they were trade so
I don't think they equate in there. I would imagine
Jordan Lewis, Rico Daddle, the Marcus Lawrence, I'm missing somebody.
(11:20):
You probably have a good shot for four, all four
of the compics, and I don't know exactly which round,
but you know, depending on what Rico Daddle does, and
you have a shot there. And Chris in the back said,
I just threwbout twelve and twenty two. Right now it's
fourteen and twenty three, that that would be them the
(11:40):
draft order as of right now fourteen and obviously Green
Bay's at twenty three. But that we'll see what you know,
you gotta see what they do in the playoffs and
all that. All right, Albert and Philly, what's up? Albert?
Speaker 6 (11:53):
Hey next? Hadaen and him Fuffy long long time hey, then.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
First time caller on the storyline. I know, I know,
here we go, man, how you been?
Speaker 6 (12:02):
But but I hope you hear them there.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
Well Cowboys fan of Philly. That's not easy, especially.
Speaker 6 (12:08):
This year since nineteen seventy six. It's never easy. But
it's life, it's it's life blood. What can I say?
You know, and well I'm about to say will probably
be proof of that. In regards to you, I could
sit here and talk about the past and what's going
on right now, but kind of will look a little
bit towards the future. And I'm thinking that for the
(12:28):
first time in forever, which shouldn't be. If Jerry really
knew our history, maybe a dream of mine could have
a shot by Shadi because my lifelong dream for a
long time now has been bringing home number thirty two.
Dennis Thurman is our defense coordinator. That would greatly help
(12:50):
Trayvon Diggs because he's great. You know. Burman comes from
the Landry era, Rex Ryan's secondhand man, whether it be
in the Jets Land or Ravens Land, so he brings
those concepts place pressed man coverage. I think letting digs
go out of this building would be huge because in
my opinion, it doesn't matter if you have our greatest
(13:10):
two corners that ever play for our franchise, better people,
no ran for Everson Walls. If your free safety is garbage,
which it has been for the past two decades since
George teg Where are you going, it doesn't matter if
we need to get that. I believe it's Caleb Downs.
He's a free safety, right the best free safety come
out of dress a little while. I think, and look
(13:32):
at the name I'm wearing Michael Down's jersey right now.
Look at that name. Kind of irony?
Speaker 2 (13:37):
All right, all right, yeah, no, I hear what you're
what you're saying, all right, yeah, I mean a lot
of a lot of moving parts there and and nothing
has moved yet. That's kind of the the thing we
got to be careful, you know about. I really don't
even know where where Dennis Thurman is as as it
(13:58):
stands right now, and who I don't really keep up
with other coordinators and stuff like that unless Cowboys have
played him or where college I know he's been in
college or whatever. I don't really know. It doesn't matter.
We can't really talk about that anyways. And Cowboys have
a coordinator and Treyvon Diggs is on the team, So
all all these things are here, and that's what makes
this show tricky. And that's why I'm sure that it's
(14:18):
you know, we're gonna not gonna have as many callers
here in the next few weeks or so, because what
people want to talk about is we're really not not
there yet. So I understand, I get all that, Uh well,
we'll we'll fight through it here, but uh, you know,
I like, I like what you're thinking and and and
I do think this they've got to figure out in
these next three games or so, who's who's here, you know,
(14:41):
who's who's gonna be here, and and and what they have,
you know, and then from there and why not say
what they have, what these players are like, kind of
get a better feel for them. And so then when
you get to the offseason and coaching staff and if
you're making changes and all that, understand your personnel, probably
better than than than you did. Understand the personnel and
(15:04):
figure out what they can do, what they can't do,
and and the scheme's gotta gotta be tweaked for that.
I think the scheme is what it is from the coordinator,
but you can obviously tweak it. So that's that's something
that that has to happen. But you know that they
got to make sure these guys are here in the offseason.
That's that's a big part of it, you know. But
(15:26):
I think the Cowboys knew what Trayvon Digs was. He
wasn't here this offseason. He was, he was banged up,
but they knew what he was. And you know, again,
I'm not trying to get into the Trayvon thing because
it's just a it's just a mystery. And I'd be
shocked if he was here next year, just because I'll
be shocked if he plays this week, you know what
I mean, Like he's not playing and he thinks he's healthy,
and he says he's healthy and he's not playing. So
(15:47):
I can't imagine next year it would be, you know,
anything different than that. All right, let's go Robin Vegas.
What's up?
Speaker 13 (15:53):
Rob?
Speaker 8 (15:54):
Hey?
Speaker 13 (15:55):
Nick?
Speaker 2 (15:55):
How are you doing?
Speaker 11 (15:57):
I'm doing good? It's great. They just just like sixty
fives nice.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
What does Christmas morning look like for you? For you?
Speaker 11 (16:07):
Now? Yeah, I mean my kids obviously thirty so it's
they come over and no, no, we do it on
Christmas Eve, because we have a big thing where all
my kids come over and brother in law and we
do everything Christmas Eve.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Do you wear the Santa hat? I feel like you do.
I feel like no.
Speaker 11 (16:33):
Honestly, my wife would usually buy everybody Golden Knight's pajamas
or something like that every year, and everybody would put
those on. We take a picture and we'd hang out.
But no, I don't. I don't think that I.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
Could just I could see you doing that, you know,
You're like I could see you being like borderline scrooge like,
but also like, all right, I'll play along. I'll wear
the hat. Open your dama.
Speaker 11 (16:57):
Oh no, no, I'm I'm the fun one. We do
all the games we do. We Yeah, No, I'm definitely
the fun uncle, the fun you know. I don't have
any grandkids, but that'd be fun.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
You see what I'm doing here. I mean, I'm trying
to like talk about Christmas and all that bring some heat,
and I'm.
Speaker 11 (17:15):
Trying to it's it's it's not heat. We we have
these conversations and I hear the fans talk about it,
and I don't know if it's because the fans have
just been beaten down over the years or when we
talk about Shotting and I hear people, you know, he's
(17:38):
changing the culture, and he's it's like we're treating him
like he's the backup quarterback. You know, everybody loves the
backup quarterback because they have hope, Oh maybe he's.
Speaker 7 (17:48):
Going to be this.
Speaker 11 (17:49):
And then when he comes in uh and wins a
couple of games, we always give him a pants because
he's the backup. Well, what did he expect? He's the backup?
And that's what we're doing with Shotty. You know, he
got six wins and everybody, you know, and I hear
people talk about he's changing the culture. We're on the
right pack. They got six wins. It's a big downgrade
(18:14):
from Mike McCartney. You could say what you want about
Mike McCarty. The man went twelve to five three years
in a row. We're not even in the vicinity of that.
And I just don't I don't know why we treat
him like that. If if he was hired, you know,
you would never hire a guy that you don't think
could do the job. It's like it's like we're talking
(18:35):
about Shotty, like we didn't expect him to be good. Well,
if you doesn't expect him to be good. He has
no business being head coach of the Dallas Cowboys because
you hire a guy you expect to take you the
next step. Well, the next step is second out of
the playoffs NFC Championship game. And I know the defense
is garbage, but that was we talked about it. That
(18:57):
was Jerry ibra Fluse. If here's my biggest thing with
the coach. And it's not just him, it's been coaches.
If you thought Iba Flush was bad at what he
was doing, he should have fired him. But he doesn't
have the power to fire because that wasn't even his guy.
Jerry hired him. And that's what that's why I don't
want it. I never wanted to coach a first time coach.
(19:20):
They just don't have the power because they don't have
no skins on the wall. And Eba flu should have
been let go. So the caller said it, if you
would have had an average defense middle of the pack,
you probably have three three role wins at least.
Speaker 7 (19:39):
So I don't know.
Speaker 11 (19:39):
I just sit here and I'm saying maybe I'm old school.
I just see the fans like giving him a participation
trophy and I'm like, no, I don't do that. It's
been a failure. Now that doesn't mean he won't be better,
he can't get better. But I'm just talking about right now, right.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
I get it well and and and and totally totally
justified on the on the things that that you said, Rob,
We're gonna keep it rolling. Hey, if I don't talk
to your grand merry Christmas, hopefully call next week. We
got two shows before Christmas next week, all right, Rob,
the one thing I'll say to this and and you
know we could go back and forth all day long
(20:22):
and all that, and it would eat up most of
the show. I mean, I'll just point out because I
don't necessarily disagree. I mean, I think when we look
at what what Shoty's year is, it's it's been you know,
he's had a couple of things that have gone against
him a little bit. When you think about, all right,
(20:42):
maybe he didn't pick this defensive coordinator. I'm sure he
signed off, but that doesn't mean you know, at that point,
it's you know, it is what it is, and and
why wouldn't you get Ebflus, I mean, e Reflus was
a good defensive coordinator this year hasn't been good at all.
But you know, so he didn't he didn't pick that.
He probably didn't. I mean, he didn't trade Micah Parsons.
(21:04):
And either way, they switched out the best player on
their team for two first round picks that are obviously
not here yet. And then they kind of then they
took one and made got Quinn Williams and they got better.
And so players matter, We know that. I think when
you look at what they did in the middle of
the season, you know, going through the worst tragedy that
(21:28):
you could think of from it for a team and
figure out a way to keep them together, keep them strong,
go win three games in a row against some good teams.
That's pretty impressive too. Now you're gonna compare him to McCarthy,
you know, like Rob said, three to twelve win seasons
in a row, and he's right. They did go seven
(21:49):
to ten last year. They went six and ten back
when they played sixteen games his first year. And if
you want to throw Covid in there and defensive coordinator
and all that stuff, fine, because it was a different year. Challenges,
not the same challenge as Shot. He went through with
challenges and he got better and they figured it out,
and they drafted Michael Parsons and they got better. You know,
(22:11):
so I think I don't know if people are giving
him a pass, but but you got to have a
little bit of patience, just like the Cowboys had and
maybe the fans and Jerry Jones had with Mike McCarthy
after that first year. Let's go to break Cowboys starting
on to be right back after.

So support from my guy Danny McCrae. Out there doing
good work, doing the most good. All right back here
(24:31):
on Cowboys Story, i'npresented by Jillette. I got two guys
on the line that have been holding. One of them's
the captain. I'm gonna get to him, but let me
just say this real quick. So I thought, you know,
Rob was making some good points. He was talking about
McCarthy in twelve and five last year, I mean a
lot for three years in a row and all that.
And I pointed out that they went six and ten
his first year, and I remember Dak did get hurt.
That changes everything. That was the COVID year. So weird,
(24:53):
weird stuff happened there. But you know, I also say
this too about culture, and culture is going to take
a little bit change. But if you would have seen,
i mean practice here in the last couple of years
has got it got out of control. It really did
you see guys that you're veteran players kind of jacking
(25:16):
around off to the side playing catch because they were
supposed to be hurt and injured but not out there
but still distracting all that. Of course you say that now,
and there's games this year where that don't look like
they practice that well either. So every team's got its challenges.
Every everything it's different. I think shoddy in season one.
(25:41):
I'll say this. I think I'm interested to see how
this thing continues to build and what happens next year.
Dylan is up, he's in north Port, Florida. What's up doing.
Speaker 9 (25:52):
You?
Speaker 17 (25:52):
Thanks for holding Yeah, no worry. That's fitting that I
go after Rob. I was hoping I get in performs.
I wanted to address what something you said yesterday, but
I'll start with what it's called today and then just
quickly pivot to yesterday. Sometimes like and Rob, you know,
I love you. I'm not gonna have to you a
big dog. But like man, sometimes my guy says things
and I'm like, what the hell is he talking about?
And I don't say hell, Nick, you know, it's another
four letter word, but I can't say.
Speaker 5 (26:14):
It on air.
Speaker 17 (26:14):
Like Mike McCarthy did so well all those years because
his defensive line put more pressure on the quarterback than
any other team in the NFL for three years in
a row. He had Micah Parsons. Okay, they forced a
bunch of turnovers and the offense fed into that and
it fed more stuff to the defense.
Speaker 9 (26:31):
Was a cycle.
Speaker 17 (26:32):
That was a great, great relationship. The Cowboys don't have
that right now. Their defense is is but cheeks. There's
no other word for it's terrible. Their defense is terrible.
Some of them has to do with the defensive coordinator.
Some of us do with the personel And and Dave
jan I wish you had listened to me before the season, man.
I tried to warn you these linebackers, corners, there's all
you know, defensive interior. Now I kind of flip floped
the defensive in tiers better the edges and no question
(26:54):
mark after the trade. But like there were there were
holes and question marks all over the defense, and you know,
and got enhanced by the DC. So it's kind of
an unfortunate situation there. But the two things Rob said,
you know yesterday, he said that a team building and
team and reloading. Right, he said, you don't rebuild when
you have a big money quarterback. Well, the Chiefs are
(27:14):
about to be in a two year rebuild. And that's
what the best quarterback in the league, who's making eighty
million next year or his capit is eighty million next year,
like what you have windows in the NFL. The NFL
is built to be cyclical. You get three four years
and then you got to you got to rebuild a
year or two. And that's just that's what's that's what
it is. You don't have the Patriots, you don't have
a ten year dynasty with the Chiefs. That's not a
(27:35):
normal thing. The lead's not built for that. And so
right now, the Cowboys are in the year and I
don't think you'll send the next year. I think this
year they did a good job at adding some pieces
and hopefully next year they get a different DC like
everybody wants and adds some more defensive pieces. I don't
I think they'll open the start to open the window
again next season, right and I think the next two
three years will be really good for Dallas. But that
(27:56):
goes into the Schottenheimer. I think he's building a culture.
He's building towards something. You can't just get instant results
every single season. Every time you make a big change,
like a new coaching staff, new coach, it doesn't work
that way, my dude. And like one more thing, and
I don't taking a lot of time, but one more thing.
He also said that you don't you build through free
agency on the draft. You got that backwards. You one
hundred percent built to the draft and not free agency.
(28:18):
You wenthand through free agency. Your draft picks are cheap
that you get them for four or five years, and
that's your fuel for your team, your rocket fuel.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
Right.
Speaker 17 (28:27):
The thing that boosts you over the top is your
free agency, your big high end money guys, high end
contracts that you get as mercenaries. Those guys in hands
your roster. But that's not your foundation. Your foundation is
the draft. So that's all I got bro about to say.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
So yeah, thanks, Dylan, kind of hated man, a little
fired up. You know what, I agree with you there.
Here's the problem that they they really haven't drafted well,
I mean like they when you when you go back
and look at the last four drafts or so, I
mean five drafts, I mean really, I mean twenty twenty twenty.
(29:01):
I guess twenty twenty to now it's six drafts and
I'm looking at the middle because your first round picks
are supposed to. You know, we already went through the
second round picks and they they they're I don't think
they met the standard. But fourth and fifth round, the third,
fourth and fifth round, I mean, you've got to hit
on some of these guys. These guys have got to
be good, good players for you. And when I look
(29:24):
at this, you know, I look at the Neville Galamore,
Reggie Robinson, Tyler Biottish, Bradley and I Biattish made the
Pro Bowl. Good player that didn't resign him, uh Osa Golston,
Nashaun Wright, Jabril Cox, Josh Ball, Simmi Fajoco, Jalen Tolbert,
(29:44):
Jake Ferguson, Matt will lets Go, Den Bland, John Ridgeway.
So you got a couple of Pro bowlers there in
twenty twenty two. This is all third, fourth, you know,
fifth round overshown. I think I think it's going to
be a good player. Junior Fojoko, Sorry, some Richards not awesome,
Eric Scott, and then you got you know, Cooper Beebe
(30:05):
starting mayslea foul hasn't hasn't turned that corner yet, uh
Kaylin Carson, Ryan Flinoy is a sixth round pick, maybe
something there. So I mean, those are the guys that
you've got to you know, you've got to. That's how
you really build through the draft. I mean the first
second or third, first second pick is supposed to be good,
but third, fourth, fifth, you're not. They're not all going
(30:26):
to hit. But I think more than that need to hit,
need to be starters. That's how you, I think get
over the top is you have cheap help that the
guys that are good players. And then there's a couple
in there. I mean Bland and Ferguson and and and
be Odish. We're good. We'll see about overshown. But for
the most part, I don't. I don't think it has
been as good as it needed to be. Lester in
(30:47):
Minnesota's next, come on and next.
Speaker 10 (30:53):
Hey man, I want to just piggyback on something you
were talking about earlier, when you were talking about when
you change coaches. You know, in this case, you were
talking about the defensive Well, I don't know if you're
talking about defense crudure, but anyway, we'll just say coaches,
you have to evaluate the talent you know for the
next coach to make sure it's fit. But also I
(31:14):
want to piggyback on that. When you're getting rid of
players Jordan Lewis, the Marcus Lawrence, the players like that,
you have to also you look at the salary, of course,
but you have to also look at the impact that
those particular players have on the locker room, those particular
players as leaders. Okay, you're getting rid of them, find
(31:36):
the salary, et cetera. But who's going to replace those players?
Speaker 8 (31:39):
See?
Speaker 10 (31:40):
So, you you become what I call and I don't
mean it as a you know, I'm not trying to
be funny or anything, but it's called leaderless armies. You
have all these talents, but you either lost all your
leadership and you didn't replace them, or you didn't look
at the replacement for them. Yes, the salary and all
(32:01):
of that, Yeah, we need to replace he need to replenished,
but you have to look at who's going to replace
that leadership. And that's part of the problem, I believe,
from my opinion, I think that's what happened to Diggs.
Part of what happened to him. He's a leader on defense,
a defensive backs. He probably I don't know this for sure,
(32:21):
but he probably had the cachet to go to the
coaches and say hey, we you know, in private, we
don't do this, or let's try this or that. And
again I don't know this for a fact. I believe
that's what he did. And someone got offended. Maybe, and
now you know he's but he was used to doing
(32:42):
that because I've been a part of a team where
I was a leader and then they changed the feat
personnel and I went to the new personnel, and then
people got offended. But I was always doing that for years.
You see what I'm saying. I'm understand that that's what
happened to him, But I'm just getting back to my point.
When you replace these players, get rid of them or
(33:04):
trade them or whatever, you have to look at who's
if they're leaders. If they are leaders, who's going to
replace that?
Speaker 3 (33:12):
Yeah, and that's all I got to say.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Cowboys, all right, thanks Lester. Yeah, I don't really know
how to respond to that. I mean, I know the
guys that they lost, Yeah, they lost to Marcus Lawrence,
Jordan Lewis. You know there were veteran players, Brandon Cooks,
they lost him. It's a veteran player and a leader.
(33:35):
Just because you're a veteran doesn't meet your leader. I don't.
I don't see Trayvon Diggs as a leader. I don't.
I don't see that. But then again, those are things
you don't necessarily see. I mean, and leadership isn't just
about the guys screaming in the middle of the huddle,
like ray Lewis saying where my dog's at and all
that kind of stuff. That's not necessarily just the leader.
Now I'm saying ray Lewis is, But I'm you know,
(33:57):
I don't. I don't think you Just because you are
the guy that does that doesn't make you a leader.
And just because you're a quiet guy a little bit
more reserved Amari Cooper like, doesn't mean you don't lead
in your own way as well. So those things are
always hard to quantify, and they're easy to say about
that this team has no heart, no leadership, you know,
(34:18):
no focus, no discipline. You know. Those are things you
just can't see, and they're easy to say, and you
can't really be wrong because nobody can approve you, you know,
prove it either way. All right, Irene false Church Virginia, Irene,
what's up y, good morning? How are you good?
Speaker 11 (34:33):
You all right?
Speaker 10 (34:35):
All right?
Speaker 18 (34:36):
You know a little sad about the state of our team,
but it is what it is, I guess.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 18 (34:40):
Yeah, So when I talk about something that heard it
on air but also really a lot on Twitter, this
idea about the offense letting the team down, right, and
I had to look into it. They are the number
four scoring defense in the league, and yeah, okay, if
they got up to number three, maybe we don't tie,
(35:01):
and maybe we beat the Panther, so maybe we have
two more wins. Great, But I don't know. When you're
looking at a team, if you're thinking at the beginning
of the year, oh, we're going to have the top
five all scoring offense, you're thinking we're gonna be in
pretty good shape, right, So then you look at the
defense and they are the number thirty one team in
points allowed. They have they have given up four hundred
and twenty points, right. So and then also with the
(35:26):
I looked it up with the with the Vikings, they
we had the fourth tie for fourth on the most
amount of points scored against them. So you know, yes,
we didn't get the job done, but we let It's
a bigger issue to let McCarthy have time to carve
us up than it is not to score and maybe
(35:48):
if we go for it more on fourth down, we
would actually score less or we would have won the game.
I don't know's if it's always yamble, right, that's the thing, right,
So yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (35:58):
I just wanted.
Speaker 18 (35:58):
To say, hey, top five offense, something we want, And
then I just a quick comment on mister Giggs. Just
I don't know what that non report report was that
Jane said that, hey, we got to be sensitive about this,
and Trayvon wants to clear it up to some extent,
like there's a really easy way to clear this up.
But anyway, I'll leave it at that. But that's all
(36:20):
I got. Take care.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
Yeah, I think everybody saw that coming. They saw that
conversation happening in the locker room with she was talking
to him while he's sitting on top of a trash can. Yeah,
and I just I had a feeling that there was
gonna be kind of this weird, you know, cryptic message
(36:42):
that said stuff, But not really, because those conversations are
they're always interesting because the players saying a lot of stuff,
and if he really wanted it all out, he'd probably
say it in front of the cameras. So when you
don't do that, then it's up to the reporter to
kind of figure out what they can say and kind of,
(37:02):
you know, you gotta get something here for this exclusive conversation,
but without burning the player and all that, so that
that's sort of what happened. I didn't see all the
tweets and all that or messages or whatever she does,
but I did. We did see that conversation happening, and
knew that there'd be something out of it. And I'm
sure he's got a lot on his side of the
(37:23):
story that he wants to tell and he probably will
at some point here. All right, let's go to break
again on Cowboys story and on and be right back.

Speaker 4 (39:07):
I'm good?
Speaker 8 (39:07):
Thanks?
Speaker 4 (39:08):
Just struggling with all the fans, with our with our season.
But I just just want to say I'm a big
supporter in Shoddy. I think he's done a great job
with what you know, he's had to deal with this year.
So I want to squash the the people say that
we need.
Speaker 8 (39:23):
A new coach.
Speaker 4 (39:23):
He's he's done a great job. Respect what he's done.
The culture is building there. I like the Neeland scenario
that came up that you know, the Parsons getting traded
Rick for the season. A lot of stuff this guy's
had to deal with, and I think he's done a
great job. Can he improve yep, just like the rest
of these players and the team that can improve as well.
We all need to improve and get better. I don't
(39:46):
agree with the offense letting us down. I mean we're
one of the best offense in the league. I do
think we can get better on the tackles, the right
tackle especially, and you know, hopefully the left hout comes
back and show some some progress as well. But defensively,
we need to do a better job. Against the Vikings.
It wasn't just offense, it wasn't just defense, it was
all three phases of the game. We need to get better.
(40:07):
But offensively, I like what we have on offense. Again,
I think we should in the draft, focus probably on
the tackle and then defensively, I would like to move
on from Matt to be honest and look look elsewhere.
Defensive coordinator next year, and definitely as far as draft,
linebacker and probably you know, corner. Definitely those are the
(40:28):
two positions I would go after. But again, I don't
think this is not a successful season. I think it's
you know, we got to show improvement. I think we
have and I think the last couple of games are
going to go a long ways and showing some more improvement. Yeah,
and that's all I got for today.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
All right, appreciate it. Yeah, I'm with you on that
defense is going to be the top priority there. But
you know, offense isn't perfect, and I don't know if
it's going to be. It goes back to Irene's call
to like, you know, offense struggle at times. You know
this is you do have a you know, first year
coach and figuring out the play calling and all that.
(41:05):
I thought I thought it was. It was good from
an offensive standpoint, remember too, like you know, they got
a lot of yards and a lot of points because
they had to keep scoring a lot down a lot,
you know, and and or you know, just because you've
got twenty four points on the board doesn't mean that
the game's out of reach. So that's part of it.
But then then the flip side too that if the
(41:27):
defense was better, you probably get the ball a lot
more more turnovers, you probably score even more points, You
have more you know, drives that start in positive territory
or you know, close to midfield. So the defense obviously
let this team down. And there's there's and it starts
at the top, and you know, all the way at
the top, and and and trading away the best player
(41:48):
and then just not having enough to replace them. They
just don't have any pass rush on no outside rush.
They get some interior rush now and again, but they
just don't have consistent pass rush on the outside and
it affects the entire team. All right, let's go Ronnie
in New Jersey. Ronnie, what's up?
Speaker 3 (42:06):
Hey?
Speaker 7 (42:06):
How's it going?
Speaker 9 (42:06):
Nick?
Speaker 5 (42:07):
Good?
Speaker 14 (42:07):
How are you?
Speaker 2 (42:07):
Bun?
Speaker 7 (42:08):
It's not too bad. I was listening to you and
and everybody on the on the calls, But I I
kind of disagree when when Rob mentioned about McCarthy, I'm
glad McCarthy's now there. McCarty was such a great coach.
How come nobody else picked him up. I'm sorry, McCarthy,
I got lucky he had a good team whatever this
(42:30):
and that he did a few good things. She can't
just dump on McCarthy. But he wasn't gonna take this
team anywhere. I'm sorry. I don't care who says what.
I didn't see McCarthy ass or the guy, the savior
that was going to make this team that much better.
It was going downhill with him.
Speaker 2 (42:48):
To be fair, I don't think. I don't think Rob
does either. I think what he's saying is is that
that you know, this guy is replacing a coach that
won twelve games three years in a row. So why
is he getting a pass for having a six win
season when the guy that most people wanted was better
than that. That's I think what he's saying. I don't
think he's saying should have kept McCarthy. He's just saying,
(43:09):
if that's the standard that wasn't good enough, then why
aren't we you know, why aren't we holding this guy
to the same thing. But so I I understand both sides.
I just I think that's what he's what he was saying.
The point he was making.
Speaker 8 (43:22):
Verry Switzer won a Super Bowl.
Speaker 7 (43:23):
But that was Jimmy Johnson's team. He built it. He
created that. He created the atmosphere, the players, the work
ethic like, he created that. You know what I'm saying.
Jimmy Johnson created that.
Speaker 8 (43:35):
Not not.
Speaker 2 (43:37):
Very Switzer, very switch.
Speaker 7 (43:39):
Very Switcher came in. He had it for one year
and then after that it went downhill.
Speaker 2 (43:43):
So I mean, you know, ring, you know what I'm saying,
not exactly, but yeah, yeah, he you know, they were,
they were They were pretty good for three years in
a row. They were pretty good.
Speaker 7 (43:52):
And so so I don't like, I don't want to
continue on the defensive coordinator. But his then was that
his defense is built on defensive tackles, the interior and linebackers.
What's this team doing with defensive tackles? They got some
really good defensive tackles, you know, in the rotation starters
(44:14):
from other teams that are legit players, and you haven't
seen much aside from the first two three weeks that
you saw out of both players when they were first
traded for you've seen them going downhill. Linebackers, you chose
those two linebackers that you have. So the linebacker whisper whatever.
Linebackers are like worse than the NFL playing the worst
(44:35):
in the NFL. So what does that tell you? I mean,
it's not always going to be the players. Yeah, the
players have some fault. But you're supposed to be this
genius for defensive tackles. Your schemes are based around defensive
tackles and linebackers. When remember when we first traded for
Quinny Williams, I was like, Nick, well, now you get
to evaluate ebra cluis and see well evaluations over them. Yeah,
(44:58):
so I know you don't want a tendency it's according again,
but you might.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
Have to might have to do I'm at the point
where you might have to. I mean, like I get it.
I don't. I don't know if we saw a lot
of progress there, but but you know, there's a lot
of things involved and things happening behind closed doors. They
got to figure that out. But you know, if it
makes sense to make a change, then then they need
to do that. Let's go JR and Avondale Arizona to
(45:23):
wrap us up. JR. What's up?
Speaker 7 (45:29):
JR?
Speaker 2 (45:29):
Are you there?
Speaker 8 (45:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (45:31):
Good? How are you doing?
Speaker 8 (45:33):
I'm doing great? How about yourself?
Speaker 2 (45:34):
I'm good?
Speaker 8 (45:36):
Hey, so I'd fly my Dallas Cowboys flag from the
day of the first preseason game till the Cowboys are
done playing. The reason my flag won't be flying at
the end of January versus the beginning of January, it's
because of Matt Eberslus and I don't give him. I'm
generally greatly positive. I don't give him a pass at all.
(45:57):
You lost, Michael Parsons, I get it, But it's called
manufacturing pressure. How do you not blitz to get pressure?
You can't just say, well, I lost Micah. Oh, well,
I'm not going to be able to rush the passer
and get destroyed in the back end of the defense.
How do you not blit? Guys like JJ McCarthy, how
(46:18):
is that? That would been my whole plan? Fourth and
three at the most pivotal point of the game, and
you basically rush one guy and give up a twenty
three yard pass. You lost the game right there, because
if you get the stop and go down and score
it up by thirteen points, you're going to win the game.
And you don't. You can't just not rush the passer.
And if you don't have Mikey, you got to find
a way to rush rush the passer when Brian Schottenheimer
(46:42):
took the job, and I think Brian's doing a great job,
he said in this one thing I liked in his
introductory conference, he said, the mark of a good coach
is a coach who adjusts his schemes and his philosophy
to the skills of this players, not the other way around.
And Matt Eberfluss is not done that because you still
got guys running down the middle of the field uncovered,
(47:05):
just like you did at the beginning of the season.
How does Taylor Williams the first time in his career
he didn't get sacked. How does JJ McCarthy two for
one hundred and forty eight yards in the first half,
the most yards he's ever thrown, four and a half.
Bryce Young, you make it.
Speaker 2 (47:22):
Yeah, whatever you're about to say, I agree with. So, yeah,
your call cut off, understand the call. You're you're right,
and uh, that's the what's what they said? Remember what
they said in the press conference that Micah was traded.
Jerry said it, Steven said it maybe shoddy about you
(47:44):
can generate pass rush. You can't really do that again
stopping the run either. You guys, you got the guys
that could do it, or you can't, but you can
always generate pass rush, that's what they said, and they didn't.
They did not. They could not. They did not generate
pass for us this year. With the guys that they have,
and even adding Quinn Williams helped some from the from
(48:06):
the middle, we saw some better games out of the
guys on the outside. Dante Faller maybe played better with
him here, Osa played better, of course, you know, and
and and Jendavian Clowney a little bit better too. So yeah,
that that helped at times. But but for the most
part now they did not not on a consistent basis,
and not against quarterbacks that that weren't good, you know,
(48:27):
against against the Blitz and they just didn't attack them
like like I think they should, like JR. Thinks they should,
and a lot a lot of people did. So, you know,
they said they could generate pass rushing, that they didn't.
And that's that's I think the biggest downfall of the season.
And in the defense there. All right, guys, we'll be
back tomorrow to talk about the Chargers game. I don't
even think we even mentioned the Chargers, but we're talking
(48:48):
about next year. Schemes, all that good stuff. All right,
we'll do it again tomorrow for Chris Beam. I'm nick
even see then.
