Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
He's a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the
Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Cowboys.

Speaker 4 (00:12):
This is Cowboys Storyline, brought you by Gillette, the official
razor of the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Here's Nick Eatman. Why do I get the feeling we're
gonna have a fun show here today? I think we
are Cowboys Storyline. It's Friday, August twenty ninth. I'm Nick Eatman,
and yes it happened. Micah Parsons was traded. Shocking, shocking

(00:41):
news for sure. I still it's been hasn't been twenty
four hours, but I'm still it's hard to process. I've
written an article, I've been on a couple of different
radio calls, podcasts, this one, of course, we're about to
get started, and I still don't know what I feel
about it. I see some of the reasoning and why

(01:03):
you had to do it, and why the Cowboys did it,
But at the end of the day, one of the
best football players this team's ever had is not on
the team, and it could have been avoided probably, but
it wasn't. So we'll talk about all that, and I'll
try to sprinkle in my thoughts here, you know, now
and then between the calls. But I do want to
open things up and let you guys kind of do

(01:24):
your thing. Let's not rant forever, Let's not you know,
let's not go too long. Let's just let's kind of
get in and out at the best we can, knowing
that we got to share the ball here today, A
lot of people want to get in, a lot of
people have things to say. It's a huge, huge news,
and you know, we'll see what this means for this
team this year and in upcoming years. All right, let's
start Gary in New Mexico is first off? Gary, what's up?

Speaker 4 (01:44):
Man?

Speaker 5 (01:45):
Hey man? It is a great day to be a
Cowboys fan. I haven't been this excited since Jerry bought
the team in nineteen eighty nine. What I saw from
Jerry Jones last night was the closest thing I've seen
to what I saw as a junior in high school
when he bought the Cowboys. I think he got tired
of all the bs.

Speaker 6 (02:02):
He's tired of.

Speaker 5 (02:02):
Paying money to players that don't want to be there.
Here's the I love Michael Parsons. He's a great talent,
but the bottom line is this, He's an undersized defensive end.
He's worn down at the end of each of his
first three seasons. Last year he missed significant time with
an injury. That's a trend. He doesn't want to be
there in the offseason. They have one playoff win with
him over the last four years. We had that without him.

(02:25):
This was a good move. If we're going to get
back to where we want to be, it's going to
take a bold move. It was bold to move off
the Landry and bring in Jimmy. It was bold to
trade herschel Walker and Jerry got trashed for both of those,
and he's getting trashed for this one. But I firmly
believe and I disagree. I think they're better now, I
really do, and I think when this is all said

(02:46):
and done, Jerry Jones is going to get the last laugh.
I am all in with Jerry on this move, and
I am as fired up for a season as I
have ever been. Thank you for taking my car, all.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Right, Gary, appreciate that. All right, that's how we get
it started. I don't know if you're going to if
you're gonna share, if everyone on here is going to
share those thoughts, But that's fine that you don't have
to do that. That's that's one way of looking at it.
And and all I'm saying that when I say better today, tomorrow, whatever,
I just I just feel like, you know, it's it's
the game's played right off the edge. And to lose

(03:16):
an edge rusher like that and gain a run stopping
defensive tackle, you know, where's the passport is gonna come from.
These other guys are are solid, They're they're pretty good.
They were pretty good with Micah as the number one guy.
Let's see, we're about to find out. I mean if
if they they feel like they've got something else in
Ezeraku and some of these other guys. But I see

(03:36):
your point from the long term. And yeah, you know Jerry,
Jerry didn't hold back. Really he never does, but uh
he didn't hold back of course yesterday. All right, Chuck
d Bridge City, Texas is next, Chuck, Nick, how are
you doing.

Speaker 7 (03:51):
I'm good, h I just wanted to chime in on
this mic stuff, like everybody else is. I'm sure.

Speaker 8 (03:56):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (03:57):
With Micah, I felt the talent was there. It was
very to me. He came off as very Uh, he's
kind of full of himself. He always thought it was
the fastest play running back. Uh, he was.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
More sweet to say, kind of well he said he's
kind to me.

Speaker 7 (04:15):
He was more about himself than than the team. Right, Yes,
he had too much of a big head. In my opinion,
talent was there, but it was just time to move.
And Uh, another thing I want to say, it seemed
like they kind of botched this deal and the McCarthy deal.
Is this something that maybe Jerry's just Is this more

(04:36):
of a Steven taking over? Is Jerry just kind of
he's not he don't have it like he used to.
I'm not saying that, but just seem that way.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
What are you talking about? Botched? What deal?

Speaker 7 (04:48):
Well, didn't he want McCarthy and then they couldn't come
to an agreement, and then McCarthy ended up leaving a
similar deal where we want him.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
And then I I mean, I think what it came
down to was, hey, you could beat the head coach,
we need someone else to call the plays and he
didn't want to agree to that. So okay, well if
we can't agree, we can't agree. I mean, like, I
don't know about it botched. I wouldn't say the McCarthy

(05:17):
getting McCarthy back or whatever is anything in the same
neighborhood as this one. But well we'll find out. I mean,
you don't really know about botching any deals until later.

Speaker 7 (05:27):
Right, I guess I'm just I don't know. I seem
that they're not as able to get stuff done like
they used to, And in a way I'm glad they didn't,
but in a way I am a little bit hurt.
You know, I did have his jersey and now what
I'm I gonna do with it type deal? But hey,
let's see what we got and let's just trust in

(05:47):
them and hopefully we do something with these picks in
the future.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
All Right, That's all he can hope for. Really. All Right,
thanks a lot, Chuck. Let's keep it going here, Dylan
one of the captains. Let's see what he has to say.
Dylan North for Florida and it.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Yeah, I want to talk about the big news yesterday,
you know, Ryan Flinoy was released and just kidds.

Speaker 9 (06:06):
Yeah, MIKEE.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Parsons right, still processing a little bit. We had a
space last night, a lot of emotions, a lot of positivity,
which was was a little surprised, but there was a
lot of positivity last night. And really, the big problem
that I have with this trade is, first off, you
don't get better immediately. Your team just got worse, and

(06:28):
that's not really debatable. You got worse in the immediate future.
And you traded your maybe best player to a team
that has you whooped your ass and twenty twenty three
in the playoffs and you played them more than any
other team in the playoffs in the last second and
they won every single game. And so you just gave
them more ammunition ammunition, And what was the return. You
got a couple of draft picks that will be I

(06:49):
would assume twenty four to thirty two. And you know,
you go through the list of guys that you took
the last five times you were picked them into the twenties,
it was the only one that's any good or you know,
at a level that's acceptable. When you're looking at Michaeh
Parsons for comp would be like a Tyler Smith, Well yeah,
I want so you got a twenty percent success straight
in potentially getting guys a similar talent level to Micaeh Parsons.

(07:12):
I don't like those odds. And so are they gonna
there's a lot of variables. Are they gonna package it
and move up? Are they gonna trade for the player.
There's a lot to see. They also open up some
cap space so that maybe they can play in free
agency that they haven't historically. But that opens up a
lot of space. Maybe they can intend pickings. There's a
lot of variables to consider in this, but when you
look at who they traded it to and the potential
return on that from that team, you also got a

(07:34):
DT who maybe in the back half of his career.
You know, he was sart it last year. So I
don't love it. I thought they could have got more back,
but it is what it is at this point, and
just real quick, I want to throw in because I'm
not gonna be able to call it extra come on
vacation at I spump thro all. My prediction for the
score for next week with the Eagles, We're going to
go twenty seven to twenty four.

Speaker 10 (07:52):
Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
I don't really think they're gonna win, but let's have fun.
Brandon Aubrey win's on a sixty nine yard field goal.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Thanks, Okay, awesome? That that would be That would be
great if if you know, I'm not saying that the Cowboys.
I think they'll I think they'll they'll play well keep
it close. I really do. I I then they they
may win this game. I don't even know whether I'm
not even there yet. You know, we're we're still we're

(08:19):
less than I mean, we're less than a week away.
I mean, the next Friday show will be sitting I'll
be sitting right here talking about last night's game in Philly.
So that that's that's how real this is getting you're
right about yeah, I mean, if you're picking in the twenties, uh, yeah,
we've seen the success. Some of it's been good, some

(08:40):
of it hasn't been good yet. But you like you,
like you said, and you allude to you could pack
it to this up if you if you want to,
and and and and maybe you know they trade one
of these picks this year. That's one thing that Jerry said.
Steven said it as well, is that they could maybe
make a trade and get another player, but I'd be
careful with that. Didn't have to be a player that

(09:01):
I could get for a couple of years here, not
just you know, not renting players here. And and I
think it's safe to say I would trade Green Bay pick.
I wouldn't trade my own. I mean, that's just that's
just being logical. All Right, let's go to uh Lewis
in Langston, Oklahoma.

Speaker 11 (09:18):
Say what's going on? Good to start get good? Good
to start the year off with y'all. All Right, I'm
gonna just go ahead and give him a little two
tents out. I'm not even really too mad about the
the Michael trade. I mean, I want him to be
on the team, but hey, it's done, it's over with.
So and I was listening to you earlier, maybe we
packaged one of these up and bring in another body

(09:39):
or something like that. But at this point now he's
not on the team. So I'm just waiting for Thursday.
I'm making plans now. And I was really wondering, uh,
because I started my little fantasy league. I'm the commissioner,
and I was wondering, if you had to start you,
if you had to have you a first round draft pick,
who would you pick first?

Speaker 1 (09:56):
And I'll listen, hold on clarify that a little bit
for me. If I had are you talking fantasy football?

Speaker 11 (10:04):
Yeah, if you was doing fantasy football, whould you drafted first?

Speaker 9 (10:08):
Well?

Speaker 1 (10:08):
I play it differently. I mean I'm taking Barkley first. Yeah, OK,
for different reason. I mean because I mean, I've done it.
That's that's how I operate. I'm I'm I headed my
bets all the time. I think he's a great player.
He's gonna catch, he's gonna run, he's gonna score touchdowns.
And you know what if he has a really bad
day and screws over my fantasy team, well maybe that
means that those that team in Green lost and so

(10:31):
you know, hey, I'm gonna win one way or another.
Or or if he goes off and has two hundred
rushing yards, like well that sucks for the Cowboys, but
you know he's got fantasy. So yeah, I take Eagles.
I take you know, I think I think my team
has Barkley and Jayden Daniels on it, so that, yeah,
that's how I operate. So I'm different than everybody else,

(10:52):
but from a Cowboy fans, I think they can understand that.

Speaker 11 (10:55):
Okay, all right, Okay, well well I might draft his
old Sunday, so I'm taking that indvisement.

Speaker 6 (11:01):
I didn't even think about it like that.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
That's that's why I look at it like I'm gonna
If I'm gonna lose something, maybe I'll try to win
on the other end.

Speaker 11 (11:08):
So all right, I go hold you too long.

Speaker 6 (11:11):
I know a lot of people want to talk about
it later.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
Thanks that being said, Lewis. I'll say this off the air.
I mean I'm not I'm not saying go go draft
the Daniel Jones from the Giants. He's not even the
quarterback anymore. But I mean I'm not saying go do that.
It doesn't work for everybody for every situation. Don't. Don't
go get zach Ertz as you're tied in. But I'm
just saying in certain cases that makes sense. That's kind

(11:33):
of the way I look at it. All right, let's
go to Aligue in Florida. Ali. You might have been
onto something yesterday. What's up?

Speaker 12 (11:39):
Good morning, sir.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
How about you? I'm good? How are you?

Speaker 12 (11:42):
First of all, I want to tell you we love you.
Thank you Today storyline podcast. What I said today is
the day we all need the storyline podcast.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
Oh yeah, So I have a.

Speaker 12 (11:59):
Different First of all, I Cowboys organization. I'll watched the
Netflix last night, all of them. We love the Cowboys.
So I'm not gonna bash Michael or mister Jones. But
I have a different take this agent David Malaga cannot

(12:22):
pronounce his last name. He represents four Green Bay Packers.
Now he has it George Pickens as well. I'm saying
when they I remember Michael the whole time he says,
I'm gonna give me Jerry Jones do that. First of all,

(12:42):
you have agent when you signed the contract as the man,
you're gonna honor it.

Speaker 10 (12:48):
That's number one.

Speaker 12 (12:50):
Number two, if the handshake was done, then he can
finish it off. But I think this agent and new
way in advance muddy the water with the Green Bay
so lure that Mie michaeuple better contract. But this is

(13:12):
my take. But I'm gonna get off the line and
thank you very much for being you.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
All right, Thank you, Ellie, appreciate that. Thanks for the call.
I mean you said yesterday, I remember you saying, and
I and I I agreed with you. I didn't agree
with you as much verbally as I did. When you
know inside, when you said maybe him going to get
a second opinion is actually getting a physical. There was
something definitely there because Jerry had said basically they had

(13:42):
agreed on a deal with the packers. Now they had
to just work on a on a contract. And there's
something I don't know if fish's the right word. But
it took a long time for the Cowboys to figure
out how to get this contract done, and yet green
Bay gets done in three days. Not sure about that one,

(14:05):
But you could also say that, you know, it wasn't
as much about the parameters of the deal. Once you
know that, once green Bay is willing to go, you know,
five years or four years, the money's not as much
of a difference as people think. I really, I think
that there's a lot of people that think it's forty
seven and forty one. It's really not. It's pretty close.

(14:26):
This thing's more. It's it's a little bit more than money.
But you know, I there's something changed, something changed between
April and now. You listen to Jerry's press conference, and
you know, and Jerry and Stephen were up there and
they're talking about how they have to stop the run
and the playoffs and and all these things. But nothing's
changed since April. Because April you were gonna sign them.

(14:47):
He had a handshake deal that you would sign him.
So now you know, there there's something that I don't
think the Cowboys were willing to say, and I and
it's that that when he decided that he didn't want
be here. He had not only said it with the
trade request on social media, but then he showed it

(15:08):
in his in his actions at training camp, his actions
at the game of course, and all of that. He
said it, he showed it. And somebody told me last
night that no, him laying on the table is not
the reason that they traded him. Him laying on the
table is what you guys finally saw that we've seen

(15:28):
for four years. That's what I was told last night.
So that that that you know, his actions, this is
not anything new as the way he kind of went
about himself and and and you know, cared about what
he cared about and great football player, and so that's
the that's the thing. And I know I said I would,
I'd kind of let you guys talk, but I want

(15:49):
to mention this because we all a lot of you
guys have seen the Netflix show that you know that's
been out all eight episodes probably and Jerry tolerate a
lot of things. I mean, the whole show was around
basically the nineties Cowboys, and Michael Levin was front and center.
When you're a great football player, you tolerate a lot

(16:11):
of things. They tolerated the things that Hayley would do.
They tolerated some of the stuff, the offensive lineman, even
Nate all of and of course Michael and I think
it comes to a point where you know, you tolerate this,
But when when you don't want to be here and
you're making and you're showing that you're above the team
and you're causing problems, then then how much do you

(16:32):
really want to want to tolerate that? And then when
the next contract comes, is it worth it? And that's
what they think had to figure out. I think in
April that money was worth it. I think as they
and I.

Speaker 12 (16:46):
Who was it?

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Was it? Josh Josh Rodriguez was on the last show.
He probably said it on the last show because it
was a great line about they put his his leadership
to the test and and and and he didn't pass.
Now he's still winning because he got he got the
deal that he wanted in it. Now he's in Green Bay,
he's out of there. And then now that they'll deal
with them. So it's it's, it's it's it's a tough one.

(17:08):
It's a tough pill to swallow. I think I said
this on the radio earlier. This is like going going
to the to the doctor, you know, and you've got
to you've got to take your medicine. You gotta get shots.
I mean, it's for the greater good. It's going to
be good for you down the line, but right now
it hurts like hell. That's that's that's really what it
comes down to. All right, let's go to Lester and Minnesota.

Speaker 13 (17:32):
Morning.

Speaker 6 (17:32):
Mack Hey, Lester, Hey, man, let's go.

Speaker 13 (17:39):
I don't like I don't like what happened, but you know,
it was probably it was the best choice that Garry made,
but he put himself in this position. I don't want
to get into it. How just that part is to
be continued?

Speaker 1 (17:54):
Are you are you saying by not signing him earlier,
is that kind of what you're alluding to?

Speaker 13 (17:59):
Like, yeah, oh yeah, but I got a lot to
say about that. So let's okay, we'll do that. We'll
do that next week, okay, but you know, until we
get an offensive and defensive line at the same time.

Speaker 10 (18:13):
This is what we got and we've improved.

Speaker 6 (18:16):
For the long term.

Speaker 13 (18:18):
So that's all I'm gonna say today. Go Cowboys. Continued.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
All Right, I appreciate that, I know, and I know
a lot of you guys have things to say, and
I'm you know, I'm with you, and this is this
is a good example of sharing the ball and being
good team players. Is kind of the theme of all this.
That's what we want on the storyline. Team. We want
to be a team player. You want to you know,
go in, get in and out. Let's so we're keeping

(18:43):
We're gonna keep up with that Robbie in Coco Beach, Florida. Robbie,
how you doing fine?

Speaker 8 (18:50):
Outstanding man? Okay, I wasn't last night. I was a
little stressing, you know, trying to digest this because he's
a phenomenal talent. But like you just had a couple
of minutes ago. In the long run, I think this
is going to turn out better for our team. I
wish we could have got a little better compensation. I
wish we didn't trade them to the dang Packers who
have whooked our I don't know if I could say

(19:12):
a whooked our butts for the last couple of years.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
Did you see that game two years ago, the last
playoff game? I did they beat their ass? I'm sorry,
I mean, no other way to say there's no other
way to say it. I think it's the worst loss
since I've covered the team. It's the worst loss that
I've ever covered experience for the Cowboys. Expectations were here
and you were done. You were you were defeated in

(19:38):
the first quarter ye at home.

Speaker 8 (19:40):
So that's the only thing that pisses me off about
all of this is that we traded them to the
dang Packers, and I wish we could have gotten a
little bit more, maybe a third round pick. And Josh
Rodriguez might have said that too.

Speaker 10 (19:52):
I agree with that.

Speaker 1 (19:53):
I agree with that, and I probably would have done that,
you know, because what they have to figure out out
is can they sign this guy for the for the contract,
you know, and then once you get that done, that's
where I think you squeezed a little bit. That's I'm
The movie is ridiculous, the Draft Day movie with Kevin
Costner and all that, But that's where you just say

(20:13):
put him on hold and say what else do we want?
Let's get David Putney because I freaking feel like it.
That's what I think they should have done. Let's let's
get a guy like that. And they didn't do that.
But for the most part it was it was fine,
But yeah.

Speaker 8 (20:27):
All right, I'll let you go. Man, We'll talk to you.

Speaker 10 (20:29):
Assume man, talk to you.

Speaker 8 (20:31):
We're gonna beat the Eagles.

Speaker 1 (20:32):
I agree, all right, cool, all right, Robbie, all right,
Well so far man, that's seven calls, and everyone's kind
of in. I think everyone's about the same. Where if
we would have done this show, and I know they
did the spaces uh podcast last night, if they would
have done the show last night, probably would have been
a little different. Uh, But I think now you're kind

(20:52):
of letting it sink in a little bit. I just
met Kenny Clark upstairs. I mean, uh, if he's if
he's as good a play as he is a nice guy, great,
we just got a star. He's a super nice guy.
But but then again, I've met a lot of nice
guys in the locker room before that weren't the best player.
So I know that's not that's not what it's all about.

(21:15):
I'll say this, you know, let's not forget that part
of it. Guy was there nine years. I mean that
guy was there as long as Dak has been here.
Same draft and uh, you know he's actually been a
little bit longer, like a day or two, because he
was a first round pick. But I mean just think
about that. I mean, you know, it's like Tank Lawrence
was here for that long. You know, it's it's a

(21:36):
big deal. So for him to leave Green Bay, him
and his wife and his kids, I mean, they were
just ecstatic, like like crazy. Uh, you know this is
this is a big deal for them. And let's see.
I know that, you know he yeah, he's on the
back back end of his career. He's still but those
defensive tackles, you know, they take care of their body.
I mean, they can still play at a high level
up until mid thirties. And we've seen it. We've seen

(21:58):
it in the last few years. We've seen Hankins play
like that. We'll see Lynn Vald Joseph. This guy's better
than both of them, So that could be the case.
All right, let's keep it going. Chris and Saratoga Springs,
New York.

Speaker 10 (22:09):
Hey, Nick, how are you good?

Speaker 1 (22:11):
How are you doing?

Speaker 10 (22:12):
I woke up this morning eating a lot of Crow
because yesterday I called in I said there was a
one percent chance he was going to get traded before
the season. So I had myself from Crow this morning.
For sure.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Let me see, did I write something down on that
because I was trying to see there was a call
there might have been you where I was like about that.

Speaker 10 (22:31):
It was it was like, I just me perfectly.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
You were right. I was hoping you were right.

Speaker 10 (22:38):
I didn't want me to happen.

Speaker 1 (22:39):
I did not want this happen. And I think when
I started the show a few minutes ago, it might
have sounded like I was like joyful or anything, not
at all, like I hate that they traded Michael Party.
I hate that it didn't work out. That's what That's
what I hate, not about the trade, all that. I
hate that it didn't work out because Jerry wants these
kind of players, and Mike a phenomenal player, and that

(23:01):
he could help your team. I was hoping he would
get mature enough to kind of, you know, get to
that point where he sees it and it's all. It
just didn't happen. And that's it's just sad because it
shouldn't have led to this. It shouldn't. This to me
feels like what the Falcons must think when they lost
Dion Sanders, because Dion was outstanding and then he's going

(23:22):
to be outstanding for five to six more years somewhere
else and probably beating you a few times. That's what
this kind of feels like to me.

Speaker 10 (23:31):
I one, I one hundred percent agree with the comparison
with Dion. I just I just feel awful. I mean,
Parsons a generational player. I really didn't think trading him
right now we would get the best value. I think
if we trade him at the end of the year,
when we knew what we would get for the picks
would be a little bit better. Or even if we

(23:51):
traded him before the season, before this year's draft, he
probably could have got more for him. So that part,
I really, I really wish we could have waited. But
I do love I mean, if you had to ask
me what our weakest point of our team is is
defensive tackle, and we just completely upgraded the defensive tackle
side of the ball. We could never stop the run.

(24:11):
Even with Michael Parkers, we couldn't stop the run. So
hopefully the young guys step up. Sam Williams comes back
off that ACL injury and has a big year because
we need him, and then stopping the run is going
to be huge for us. And I really think Clark
is going to help us. He immediately upgrades our defensive
line position. Immediately, and that's where I think we needed
the most help, for sure.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
No doubt about that. I agree with everything that you
just said. You get acknowledged that. I just think last
night the fans didn't want to hear we need to
stop the run. I mean, just that's that's not and
I don't think we even wrote that in our articles.
We're like that, that's not what this is about. In
my opinion, it's to me, it's the pros and cons

(24:52):
when you're doing the list, and so you're like, all right,
what are the pros of this? Like, well, we saved
some money here and this and this and that, and
you know, now he's now he's not as disruptive in
the locker room, and you know our run defense is
gonna be better too. I mean, you know, but those
aren't the ones. I mean, you wouldn't you wouldn't take that.
And and and just look in the draft, I mean,

(25:13):
the who's who gets taken in the top five those
pass rushers off the edge, not the ones that that
that eat up a lot of you know, blocks on
the inside. And the guy that did that and did
both was Aaron Donald. And you know, and there were
some times last night where I was like, you know,
we're talking about Aaron Donald here. I mean, just the
way that the Kenny Clark stuff was. But you're right

(25:33):
about that. He's a big upgrade and you know for
defensive tackle for sure, for.

Speaker 10 (25:38):
Sure, for sure. And the last thing, do you do
you honestly think the needle with Jerry Jones was the
fact about the leadership of Parsons because he always pays
his players, especially leaders on his team. I've never seen
him in my whole entire life of being a Cowboys
fan not pay a player like this, and and and
that's a leader like Dak He's the highest paid person

(25:59):
in the NFL, He's a leader like Do you think
that was a big aspect of he saw his actions
and and that that was a tipping point?

Speaker 1 (26:06):
Do you think one thousand percent? Yes, And Chris, we're
going to keep it rolling. I'll finish this point after
thank you for the call. One thousand percent. Yes, Do
I think that it's more than football? Because you're right,
the proof is out there. This guy was. You know,
I'm watching the highlights. That's making me sick actually because
you see how how really really dominant he is and

(26:27):
from all over the place, and so that's why. And
I tweeted this and fans didn't like it, But that's why.
It's like, it's got to be more than this. There's
more than what you what you know, I'm gonna I'm
gonna make this point. Some people in life, they're they're
good at everything. You know, They're they're good at at

(26:48):
different things. Okay, the best thing you do, maybe the
best thing I do, I don't know, is throw out
random cowboy trivia in facts and stuff like that that
that don't really matter or whatever. Chris Beam, well, I
mean the best thing he does is is these podcasts
and he can fix a problem in like five seconds.
But playing cornhole is probably the best thing that Chris

(27:11):
Beam does. You know, from what I've seen Micah Parsons,
the best thing that he does that I see is
is rush the passer. That's the very best thing that
he does. Now, other guys they do other things. Well,
they're they're they're great in the community, They're they're great
on camera. They they watch film better than anything. Good player,
But man, do they they can study this and that,

(27:33):
or or they bench press four hundred pounds or whatever.
It is the best thing Micah does is rush the passer.
And that's what you see every Sunday. It's what I
see is what we see. So we see the best
thing he does, and so therefore that's what we're going
to miss. What you don't see is some of the
other aspects of it that make this thing what it was.

(27:57):
And and and that's that's what's so hard to grasp,
like what they couldn't make this work. You're gonna watch
these highlights. You're gonna see Micah get two sacks, and
you're gonna be like, we couldn't figure this out, and
and you're you're gonna be right about that. It has
to be more to it, and and it is. I
I don't think anyone in the locker room is upset.

(28:19):
Maybe Trayvon Diggs. I don't think anyone else in the
locker rooms too upset by this. I really, I really don't.
I don't think the coaches are. I think if you
really knew everything that Micah was the he is a
pain in the ass for the left tackle. I think
he's a pain in the ass for everyone else over there.
And that's just what is Kudos for being consistent, but

(28:41):
that's that's where these things. I have to take a break. Guys.
I'm sorry. I'll take a break. We got two collars
on the line. We'll be right back here.

that's gonna work his way in here. How about Thomas
in DC? How you doing it?

Speaker 6 (30:48):
How you doing? How you doing? Thank you? I'm doing fine.

Speaker 1 (30:51):
You I'm great. Thank you for holding I know you've
been holding for a little bit and first time call.
So what you got?

Speaker 6 (30:57):
I agree, I'm happy with the trade, all right, I'm
not just what Jerry Jones did. We have a good
no tackle? I could mean, remember since Russell Maryland. Yeah,
so I can see what Jerry Jones trying to do.
A lot of people might don't like it, but from
watching the documentary, I can see that my owner haven't
really made a bad decision. He might have made a

(31:21):
decisions that we don't like as fans, but.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
Yeah, Jay, he was, I mean he was a those tackle,
as Chris Bean just pointed out.

Speaker 9 (31:31):
To me, but we moved him over.

Speaker 16 (31:35):
Yeah he was.

Speaker 1 (31:37):
He was not your prototype type. No, you're right, I mean,
and neither was leon Lett. I mean they played tackle
different schemes. But you're you're right. I mean, you know
Hankins was was was good, but but not not to
this level. So you have this And and to be fair,
I mean, Russell Maryland was a one time pro bowler.
I mean he was the first pick in the draft,

(31:59):
but he but he probably shouldn't have been even then.
I mean even then they knew he wasn't going to
be number one. It was just that that's that they
they picked him there because they signed him before Uh
he was probably a top ten player. But you're right,
you're right on all this. You're this is this is
one of the better defensive tackles that that the Cowboys

(32:19):
have had in a while at that nose tackle position.
All right, what else you got? What else you got from?

Speaker 6 (32:28):
I'll figure we to get to the pass rushing. I
think there's a lot of other things that we can
do with a nod ticker that helped us get to
the pass rushing, that allowed us, you know, a couple
more feats.

Speaker 1 (32:40):
I'm fine with that. I understand that, Yes, you can
scheme for that if it's okay, if it wasn't defensive
tackle that worried you. What other position worries you on
this team right now like this today? But what other
position do you look at and say, eh, I'm not
that comfortable.

Speaker 6 (33:00):
A running back?

Speaker 1 (33:00):
Running back? Okay, that wouldn't be mine, but but but
I that would be close, that would be but but
that wouldn't be one. What's what's your next position?

Speaker 6 (33:09):
I can say a solid safety. Okay, we have I
would been a solid safety and the guys we got
coming along, but we haven't had a solid safety.

Speaker 1 (33:19):
You're not playing along with me here, Thomas. I wouldn't
what I wanted you to say. The one that I
that I think, if it's not the tackle is probably corner. Okay,
in the corner, just because you got injured guys and
bland here. We don't know the reason why I say
that about generating. You know, scheming for past rush that's great.

(33:40):
But with Michael Parsons, you just said go rush and
and and he would get there and your cornerbacks just
look better because of that. So he was a guy
that was going to help you. So now if you're
you don't have him and you're scheming for it, that
means you might have to cover a second longer and
that doesn't look good right now from what we've seen
in training camp, you know, especially with A. J. Brown

(34:01):
and DeVante Smith sitting on the other side. So that's
what worries me a little bit. I don't love the
scheming for it. They better get there. They got to
get there, They got to get home quickly because your
cornerbacks are going to be on islands and I mean,
they could have a field day if they don't. So
that's that's only my my issue. But I mean that
that's going to be that's gonna be a problem. And

(34:21):
I think cornerback can get good when when Trayvon gets
back elm Bland revel at some point it could be
a strong position, but it's not that strong at the moment.

Speaker 6 (34:33):
What about the one that we picked up that was
hurt last year, well, the one that we drafted.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
Yeah, he's not there yet. He's not ready. He's going
to probably be. I mean I think it's for at
least four weeks that he'll be. He won't be on
the you know, on the roster yet, so uh, he's
still rehabing, you know. And then when and when he
does get there, I mean, he's still a rookie. He
hasn't ever played before, so I don't know if we
can expect much from him this year. I think everything's

(35:00):
bonus if end of the year he starts to play
plays well. I mean, I think he'll play before the
end of the year, but I just mean that'll probably
be the time we'll start to see him maybe you know,
what he really can do.

Speaker 6 (35:12):
So all right, Okay, I appreciate you, thank you.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
Heyd it Okay, Thomas, I love it. I love it.

Speaker 8 (35:20):
I know.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
Hey, as I say to a lot of fans that
are in other areas in New York, the fans in Philly,
for you in Washington, d C. You know, thanks you
for doing what you do. I mean, it's not easy.
It's not easy being a Cowboy fan in general, just
in general days like this. But it's not easy being
a Cowboy fan in other places, especially in Washington where
they've had some success finally for a while. And then

(35:41):
when that happens, you know, you have to sit there
and and and kind of listen to that and deal
with it and fight with coworkers and friends and all
that kind of stuff. So keep doing what you do.
Glad you're a part of our storyline family. Keep calling back,
all right, who's next? Michael and Bowling Green? He's part
of the family. Michael, what's up.

Speaker 17 (35:57):
Well, I've went through all the stages of grief in
the past twelve hours, and uh, where are you now?
I think I'm an acceptance. I'm an acceptance.

Speaker 1 (36:09):
Acceptance because I believe because your choices are what I mean, like,
that's the thing.

Speaker 17 (36:14):
Well, exactly, I had I had the phone a friend,
three different Cowboy fans, you know, and talk it out
with different people that I know, and yep, well, I
mean I look at like, okay, forty seven million dollars,
that's two million dollars more than my homes makes. I mean,

(36:35):
we couldn't do that.

Speaker 1 (36:39):
Now.

Speaker 17 (36:39):
Now, now Michaeh probably would have. He's probably gonna bring
home the same thing. You know, they're in Green Bay
that he would bring home in Dallas at like forty one.

Speaker 8 (36:49):
Man.

Speaker 17 (36:49):
But I mean, I you know, I had to look
at the negatives. Okay, you know you got you got
you know the static you get from Micah the podcast.
You know, he he he kind of wears out near
the end of the season. He uh you know he
uh uh you run at even you know, he.

Speaker 1 (37:08):
Just had to.

Speaker 17 (37:09):
I had to find all the negatives so I can
be like, Okay, we're gonna have four drafts, four to
one draft picks the next two years. We got he's Statistically,
Clark his rateds is the third best uh defensive tackle
in the NFL. So, you know, I'm just we've got
some good defensive you know, we got some good defense.

(37:32):
I'm just hoping that it won't be terrible. That that's
that's what I want. And I don't think it's gonna
be a bad bad Now we can sign you know,
we can sign uh uh Tyler. We can be able
to easily sign uh, you know, a kicker uh Blad.

(37:52):
I mean it's probably a lot easier to sign these
guys now with the cap space and everything. So I
I've been spending now. My initial when I thought, I
was like, oh, this isn't real. There's not what you know.
My initial was was, you know, the oh my gosh,
I'm not going to watch football this year. But I
had to go through everything, and I'm good and that

(38:15):
all right, And I just I wanted I called one
hundred I was gonna call it one hundred and twenty
five times today I got to one twenty three and
I got through. So, uh, I just wanted to vent
a little bit to you. So I'm glad I was
able to get through. But I'm sure this is the
single only topic you're going to have today.

Speaker 1 (38:33):
I would imagine that, and I don't think we need
anything else.

Speaker 9 (38:37):
I No, I agree.

Speaker 17 (38:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (38:39):
Oh and one more thing, what's up on the.

Speaker 17 (38:43):
Uh on the the on the UH the Cowboys show
on Netflix? When Dion got signed by the Cowboys, they
asked Carmen policy and saying, you know, did you think
about trying to match it? He said, it would be
irresponsible for us to match that off for the same thing.
I mean, we can't be in one hundred and seven

(39:06):
million with dak and and Parsons alone a year.

Speaker 1 (39:11):
Yeah, that's that's part of it. That that was that
was part of it. Is what what they already had,
what they already had had here with CD and Dak
and then him. I mean they could have done the
deal obviously, but it hurt. Yeah, it would, it would hurt.
But but then they're like, all right, is this worth it?
That's what they came down to. Is this worth it?

(39:32):
All right? Michael appreciate the call they had to decide.
You know, of all this things, this is going to
really chew up our cap space. Is this guy going
to be the difference maker? Is this everything that we
want for him to be? And you know, there's some
questions on his work, ethic and all that kind of stuff,
and does he take care of his body, does he study?

(39:53):
And uh, you know, for the first four or five
years he was the best athlete. He could just do it.
He could just he could just it didn't even make sense.
He didn't even look like a guy that was super strong,
but yet he was bull rushing people. I mean, is
he going to continue to be that guy? Probably? Like

(40:14):
that's the thing. Probably it's this. There was just so
many factors here. There was just so many factors, and
Micah said, hey, I don't need this. I don't need
forty million, I don't need all these things. He lied,
I mean he did or something changed. I mean he
said that. I mean he basically said, I don't have

(40:36):
to be that. I want to be here forever. He didn't.
He didn't want to be here forever, or he would
have or he would have done some of those things.
I know Jerry's taken a lot of a lot of
hits nationally, not so much here. But you know, I mean,
Jerry offered him a contract of the highest paid defensive
player or highest paid non quarterback in the history of

(40:56):
the league. And I don't think people even on the
show would say he's the best pass rusher in the league.
Is he better than what? Is he better than Miles Garrett?
It's close, It's all right there, it's close. But but
Jerry offered him as the most and he wanted him
here and with five years, which would help them because
they had a quarterback, because they had a receiver, that's

(41:17):
what worked the best for them. And that didn't matter
because he's like, hey, help me, I know what you want.
Here's what's gonna help us. That's what two way negotiation does,
because we've got that. We've got some offensive players for you,
so to get you the lead so you can go
rush the quarterback. But this is what we're gonna need
in the term. You know, we probably need a five

(41:38):
year deal. But still you're gonna get your money. You're
gonna get more guaranteed money. And he didn't want that.
And that's the thing. And let's before we get too
far down. Dak was the same way. Now, Dak was
sticking point on the five and four year deal because
they are thinking about the next contract, not just that one.
And so when you're thinking like that, and it's you know,

(42:00):
that's what you have to do, and that's what you
have agents to look out for you. But they certainly did.
All right, let's go to uh Zach in Germany.

Speaker 18 (42:08):
Nick, what's going on?

Speaker 7 (42:09):
Man?

Speaker 10 (42:12):
Oh good?

Speaker 18 (42:12):
You know figured out to call in. I want to
talk about Isaac Alac and I saw he's on the
San France practice squad.

Speaker 10 (42:18):
Now I'm just kidding.

Speaker 18 (42:19):
Uh, Tuesday, when I called in and I asked you
about Aaron Donald, I should have asked you about Kenny
Clark in two first round picks. But you know, yeah,
it looks it looks like the world has been set
on fire. I think I think you're making some good
points there. I also think, like you said, it takes
two to tangle man. And the question that I have
here is what what are the repercussions down the line

(42:41):
of in particular Jerry dealing with this went out and
then obviously you know, agent got involved, kind of fell apart,
and this is this is a you know, big move.
But for the people that are panicking, I mean, Mikeael
was a great player. Nobody's gonna not that. But I
would I would also say, we don't know what this

(43:02):
is going to lead to. That I was sitting on
my couch last night watching the documentary and it happened
to be right on the herschel Walker trade I was.

Speaker 12 (43:12):
But yeah, the question I have.

Speaker 18 (43:17):
For you is out defensive end. We'll take defensive event
off the board. If you were to have one of
these picks. Either we go and get a guy, or
we draft a guy and it becomes another top end
talent outside of defensive end. What position would you want
it to be?

Speaker 1 (43:33):
Yeah, all right, thanks, thanks for the call, Zach. I
appreciate that. It sounds like you're from Germany right now.
The call, the line was the best. But I heard it.
I heard what you're saying, and thank you so much
for calling and and like you always do and holding
for a little bit. Uh, you know, that's that's a
good question. I mean, if if if I could get

(43:55):
a player, if I could trade for a player that
that I could get for a couple of years, I
mean no, not not just a couple of years. Where
I can get more than than than a couple of years,
then there's five positions of that, you know. I mean,
it wouldn't really matter. I mean, pass rusher, like you said,
But if you're taking that off the table, if there's

(44:16):
a corner that's like, hey, this guy is a great player,
let's trade for him. I mean, most most teams aren't
willing to let go of that guy. That's that's the problem.
But if you know, if you find another Amari Cooper
situation where you got a twenty four year old and
he's you know, he's he's a great player, but but
also this team is ready to move on from him.

(44:37):
Then if you find that situation, sure corner would be
one left tackle, you know, it would would be another
running back. You know that that would be an I mean,
I guess there's probably not five, but you know, another
defensive tackle, linebacker you could convince me if he was

(44:57):
that good. No, I don't know about first round picks though,
so you know there's there's I would say the cornerback,
maybe maybe a left tackle, I mean, or or a tackle.
I'd be okay with that. You know, anything that kind
of makes your makes your team better. So but I
just don't think that's gonna happen this year. I know
that they could do it, but you know, this move

(45:20):
was for the future. This is what it what it was,
and they're gonna they feel like they're trying to compete
and they're gonna they're gonna do it. But you know,
if they made a move, it would have to be
for a player that you're going to sign long term
and keep here. If you're going to trade a first
round pick then you got to get something for it.
So you've got to be could be a guy in

(45:41):
the last year of his deal, but you better they
better be a negotiating thing, just like Micah, where it's like,
all right, we'll trade for him, but we're gonna negotiate
and try to get a get a deal done. All right,
let's go to Paul in Wisconsin.

Speaker 9 (45:56):
Hey, Mark, how are you doing good?

Speaker 1 (45:58):
How are you?

Speaker 9 (45:59):
I'm doing all okay. So a couple things about this
deal with Micah. I think what you're seeing in the
NFL is a little bit of a shift away from
the passing and more to the running game, right right,
And Micah that's not necessarily his strength. Having said that,
they do, as you have said, give up a generational

(46:21):
talent and a guy who just can in an instant
change a game. So that's the tough part of this.
But the other part of the NFL I think that
needs to be really thought about here is the teams
that are successful are the teams that stay focused.

Speaker 13 (46:38):
Right.

Speaker 9 (46:39):
And Micah has you know, his podcast. He's not afraid
to get on social media and talk about, you know,
his little spat with d Law, which I find so ironic.
Now right, you know that, And that's that's all distractions.
And I think it also has the negative effect of

(47:02):
really affecting a locker room. Right, we don't that's the
stuff we don't see. We don't see the inner workings
of the locker room. And I think that's for those
are the intangibles that I think really will in the
long run. I think hurt Micah more than anybody. And frankly,
the packers are in that kind of wind now, Bode.

(47:25):
I gotta believe after this move, there's a ton of
pressure on Jordan love Guda Koun, you know, to get
over the hump, much more than the cowboys. So this
isn't this isn't the herschel Walker thing, but it's it's
a and I wish they would have gotten more. But

(47:45):
in the NFL, I think you just can't have all
the distractions. And I just don't know where Michael was
coming from. Neck It's like, on the one hand, last
year he's talking about I can play the least, you know.
I remember Jesse Howley saying I'm hanging with the like no, no, no, no, Son,
you don't do that. You don't make that public. And
he has this weird way of just making these weird

(48:07):
statements that kind of blows everybody's mind. And then I
think the ultimate disrespect was what he did at the game.
I mean, Jerry, Jerry Eyes pays this player. Even DLAs
said that, right he, you know he they eventually get
paid by Jerry.

Speaker 1 (48:22):
All right, thank you, thank you, Paul. I appreciate it.
We are pushed up against it right now. Thank you.
And I know you're there in Wisconsin, so you're going
to be dealing with that. But We're gonna take a
break real quick and I'll come back and get one more.

Speaker 1 (49:40):
All right, welcome back here real quick on a storyline.
Just got time for one more call. I don't apologize
to Paul in Wisconsin. I had some great points and
I just we had to kind of keep it moving.
You're right about a lot of the things that you said.
There one more caller here. We're going to Casey in Denver.

Speaker 16 (49:55):
Casey, how's it going?

Speaker 1 (49:57):
You're like half of the AFC West right there, Casey?
What's that man?

Speaker 16 (50:03):
Quick question? So I know Jerry likes to use the
superstars and their contracts in the offseason to keep the
Cowboys being talked about. Okay, and it seems like it's
not paying off. I mean, besides getting the Cowboys talked about.
But the contracts seems to kind of bite him in
the end, and kind of it seems like he stumbled

(50:24):
this one here at the end as well. Do you
think he's gonna try and change up a little bit
and try to get these contracts done sooner to help
with salary cap and maybe not get the player so
upset with him. I'll hang up and listen.

Speaker 1 (50:39):
Okay, thank you. First of all, I mean, I think
the Cowboys do. They would love to assign players early.
The problem is is that, I mean, in this particular case,
just remember the Cowboys offered Micah Parsons the best contract
in the history of a non quarterback. That's what they want.
They want to that That wasn't good enough for Mike

(51:02):
and his agent. They didn't want to just be a
little bit more. They wanted to be a lot more.
They wanted the next couple guys to be like, WHOA,
I don't know if we can get to that. That's
what he wanted here Green Bay, wherever didn't matter. Priority
number one was that, not let's build this thing. I'm
gonna tell you this real quick. I have a time
for a quick story. Against New England his rookie year.

(51:25):
The Cowboys win a game in the rain, CD touchdown
and overtime to win is a great game. Afterwards, interviewing
him in the locker room, you would have thought a
family member passed away. He was so upset, so distraught.
Even admitted that he holds himself to a higher standard
and he didn't get a sack, so therefore he's not
happy yet. I have seen him pretty bouncy, pretty okay

(51:50):
after two sacks, three sack game, they didn't win. I'm
just saying, that's what it is, okay. So this is
the priority for him. Everyone's got priorities. Everyone gets motive
their own thing. You're talking about a guy that wants sacks.
He wants to make the stats because that's what gives
you money, and that's what he was looking for. He

(52:10):
wanted that more than anything else, and he was willing
to kind of act his own certain way in the
locker room or whatever to get there. Guys, great great show.
I love getting thirteen calls. Everyone had stuff to say.
I appreciate all you guys for calling all the ones
that didn't make it in but you know, they were
in and out. They could Everybody could talk for forty
five minutes on their own on a topic like this,

(52:31):
And we're gonna be able to talk about it some
Not on Monday, it's Labor Day. We'll talk Tuesday, so
it's not gonna be a whole lot of time to
talk about it. We'll eventually talk about that Philadelphia team
that we play on Thursday. For Chris Beym I'm Nick Eatman.
We'll see you next week on Cowboys Storyline.

Speaker 14 (52:46):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
