Speaker 1 (00:01):
The following.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
He is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
This is Cowboys Storyline presented by Gillette, the official shave
of the Dallas Cowboys. Here's Nick Eatman.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Let's go. Let's go Cowboys storyline. What's up? When's the
October fifteenth? I just cut off, Chris, Sorry about that.
It's ready. Let's do this, presented by Gillette. We've got
a lot of good reads. We're gonna talk about Gellette today.
We're gonna talk about Cowboys Commanders. Maybe we'll talk about
the Panthers. I think we're done with that, right. We
know what happened when ma Rico, Walter Payton, Dabvill just

(00:47):
you know, went crazy on the Cowboys and they couldn't blitz.
They didn't blitz. They tried not to let Bryce Young
look like a Heisman Trophy winner that he was, but
it looked like he was back to Alabama again. So
we know that the Cowboys lost that game in Carolina.
Let's see what happens as they move forward against the
Washington Commanders. It's that time of the week Wednesday where

(01:09):
you're right there in the middle hump hump day. Let's
go forward. Let's see, let's see we get some some
new callers in here. I think we think we might
have one right off the start. So all right, eight
a A eight, five five two two ninety seven is
the number to call. Let's get right to it. Nate
the Great, He calls himself from Albuquerque. Nate, what's up?

(01:30):
Not so great? Is he not there? All right, let's
keep moving, Irene No, go to night straight again. Let's
go Nate.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
Hey, Hey, Nick, good, talk to you.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
What's up?

Speaker 5 (01:46):
Hey?

Speaker 6 (01:47):
So?

Speaker 4 (01:47):
Yeah, So, I think it's kind of funny how the
Dallas Cowboy fans woul kind of like to overreact when
we lose. It's like the draft show and win. You know,
it's a super Bowl. But I'm with you. I think
this offense is on fire. Dad's playing like at MVP.
When we get CD back, He's in his prime. We
got Pickens, we got the running game that's better than
we thought it would be. I think now's the time

(02:09):
to strike when iron the top. I think Garry Jones
needs to make a trade, and I hope he does
because it would be a shame for this window to close.
These people that say no, we should save these draft picks.

Speaker 6 (02:20):
It's like that's going to.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
A gamble and then you got to wait and they
might have to develop these players.

Speaker 6 (02:24):
I say he needs to do it.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
He talks about he wants to win another championship. He's
not getting any younger. I think now is the time.
I hope he does to make a trade because it
would be a shame. And I guess my question to
you would be, I would like to see a guy
like Max Crosby if we can get him.

Speaker 7 (02:40):
I mean, with that.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
Energy, one guy will make a difference. He might not
make all the difference, but I think we need him,
maybe another player, maybe a new voice of DC and
a new scheme. I think at that defense, if he
can get a little bit better, I think, you know,
the Cowboys got a chance with this offense playing so good.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Yeah, I agree, all right, Nate, thank you so much.
Appreciate you that that was a first time caller. So,
uh here we go to to Nate and and I,
you know, the point you're making is something I definitely
agree with, mainly because you know, you're always asking your
team to to do something really well. You know, if

(03:16):
you're gonna be a difference making team. You're gonna have
to do something just better, extraordinarily better than anyone else.
And and I think right now the offense is doing that.
Now your defense is at a clip that's worse than
everybody else. So fix that. Try to keep the offense
at the same level. You do that, I think you're
gonna win more games. And so to do that, I mean,
how do you get better? How do you get better

(03:36):
in in the middle of October? That's that's the question.
Do you have to go get a player? Do you
change the scheme, do you change your defensive coaches? Do
you change the voices in the room? What do you do?
And and and the answer could be more than one
of those and and then and some of them are drastic.
But you know what's the saying, Drastic times call for

(03:57):
drastic measures. And this is kind of what it is
when you're from the defensive side of the ball. All right,
let's go to Irene. She's next, Irene. What's up?

Speaker 8 (04:05):
Hey, shout out mate, the great new caller. All right,
yea old caller here, But hey, okay, I'll give you
one thing that they could change was going to be
my call anyway. James Houston I'm a James Houston truther.
I have been since the preseason. I noticed because snapcount
went down almost in half. It was fourteen instead of

(04:26):
twenty seven the last week and twenty two the week before.
Both weeks with awtume look better. He god one and
a half secks. Tell me what goes into that thinking.
I do not understand why they, you know, don't have
him out there more. I'm not saying every single play,
but I don't get it, and it was a frustrating game.
So I did want to shout out George Pickens though,

(04:47):
because I feel like that got lost in the shuffle.
I know we talked about his game a little bit,
but he's incredible. He might be my favorite player at
this point.

Speaker 9 (04:55):
He's so fun.

Speaker 10 (04:56):
That hurdle was awesome.

Speaker 8 (04:58):
Maybe put him out to block the last field.

Speaker 11 (05:00):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Maybe, yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 8 (05:04):
I mean, he's incredible.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
He could jump the line. I know Sam Williams jumped there,
but I think he could jump it also, Yeah.

Speaker 10 (05:11):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 8 (05:12):
Maybe in an emergency situation like that.

Speaker 12 (05:14):
I don't know.

Speaker 8 (05:16):
I'm going to try to leave the lines open the
next couple of days, so I'll give.

Speaker 10 (05:19):
My score prediction.

Speaker 8 (05:20):
I actually I had this as a loss. Both of
the Washington games is a loss coming into the season.
I don't know.

Speaker 10 (05:27):
They both look crappy on defense.

Speaker 8 (05:30):
I think we're definitely the better offense. Obviously, I'm going
to give it to US forty one to seventy eight.
It's gonna be a nightmare game anyway.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
All that's all with that, by all right, thank you,
all right, Well thanks for the call, Irene. You know,
I have an answer for you. I think I think
I have the answer. And you're asked about James Houston.
So I was looked up really quickly. You know, you're like,
why why did he play so much before? Why did
he not play before? You know so much there? Well,
what does he do? He rushes the passer. I don't
think he's considered your best runs opper at all. I

(06:01):
think he's one of your top pass rushers. Well, when
you look at third down efficiency, I'm looking at all
of the games and it's weird. Philadelphia, this is first
game of the season. This is how many third down
attempts Philadelphia had in Giants in Chicago and all that

(06:22):
thirteen fourteen, fourteen, fourteen sixteen, that was the Jets Carolina
eight three of eight. That's what Carolina was three of eight,
so sixteen third down attempts, which is typically passing situations
for the most part, sometimes you run, but you know,
third and long and then Carolina down to eight. That's

(06:42):
what happens on first and second down. When you can't
stop Rico o Daddle from six seven eight yards every
single time, then you're not getting in third and long.
That was the problem. They didn't get in situations where
James Houston could really affect the passer in the pass rush.
So that was part of it right there. And then
also I think it's safe to say that he's not
your every down player, so which is fine. You need

(07:05):
you need him to rush or rush the quarterback, do
what he does. But the Cowboys as a defensive unit
did not get in those situations as much. That's why
I think you saw a decline in his in his snapcount.
All right, Cosmo in the in Syracuse, New York, what's up, Hey,
how you doing?

Speaker 12 (07:24):
I listen every day.

Speaker 10 (07:26):
I just can't call because I work in normal nine
to five, so it's hard. I just wanted to say,
you do a great job. You and Chris are awesome,
thank you, and I got a chance to call today.
I just want to say things for everything you do,
and I'll let someone else.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Call in all right, Cosmo, appreciate that. I do remember
when I, you know, I charged all the calls and
writing it down, and I went back and we were
looking at some of the first few calls, and I
do remember writing that down. I remember that that you'd
called way back when. So thank you, and I understood. Yeah,
it's deserving of that, especially when he's like, I don't

(07:59):
have anything. I just want to I just want to
say what's up. We love love that you know always
and and I, you know, I just wanted to kind
of reiterate the fact that that some people do get
to call all the time. It works for their schedule.
Some people probably are listening have never called. Hey, you
guys are just as important as anyone else. We appreciate

(08:19):
that now we do. You know, this is a participation show,
so it's always great. If nobody called, then it wouldn't
be good. But but this is good for everybody. We
appreciate the ones that only text, that only listen, call
every once in a while, call every day, call sixteen
days in a row. We're good with that as well.
Speaking of JR and Avondale Arizona, I don't know what

(08:41):
the streak's at, but it's up there.

Speaker 12 (08:44):
I think it's fourteen fourteen days in a row, so.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
That's pretty awesome. Congrats.

Speaker 12 (08:52):
Yeah, I think it's going to end this week, but
I'm gonna do my best anyway, hopefully doing well today.
I just want to say that I didn't realize how
boring kickoff and punt returns were got a certain without
a certain guy out there, because I would never miss
one of those. And now I stand up every time
he catches it because I anticipated him going all the way.

(09:14):
So I'm glad when he's he's going to be coming back.
I think it's going to change what we do on
on the special teams. Kind of bright side of I
think Lamb being out is it's allowed that to reconnect
with Fergie and to get Pickings going, and I wasn't.
I didn't realize how fast Pickens was until he hit

(09:35):
that slant for the touchdown. Yeah, it got he hit
another gear. Never saw him as really a speed guy, but.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
He's he's really not you know, he's really not a
speed guy. I mean I'm not saying he's not he's
not super fast. I'm just talking about from as receivers go,
but what he is And I saw this at training camp.
I saw this like a few times. He's got the
longest stride you've ever seen. Like like he only he
caught the ball, like what the twenty five yard line,

(10:04):
he took six steps to the end zone. I mean
that's what it was. It was just touchdown, and like
he's he's he's got this A. He's a long stride.
Every time he gets the ball, like over the middle,
he's chewing up you know, yardage there. So I know
it's it's a it's a great situation. I want to
see more of that with him and CD and just
see how and win Ferguson and just see how great

(10:25):
this offense really could be.

Speaker 12 (10:27):
Yeah, one thing about floor Noy, I mean he's not
like the other two guys, not like CD or or GP.
He's got more of a he's more like built like
a running back. So I want to see him. If
you're gonna run someone out in the backfield, let's let's
let it be flor Noy. And my last thing is,
what do they have to do to keep the distribution

(10:49):
up because CD comes back, it's gonna take a lot
of the targets. Just want to keep all these guys
in the game. And that's all I got.

Speaker 6 (10:58):
All Right, have a.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
Great too, all right, thank you, Thank you. Appreciate that.
You know, he's right about the excitement of Turpin just
having you know, just having him back there, you always
feel like he could, he could, you know, break one.
And you know who else thinks that way with Washington.
Washington probably feels that way as well. Lost a game
because of that. How do you keep the distribution up?

(11:22):
Just get open? I mean, that's that's the key. And
I mean, I think Dak has proven over the course
of his career that he's not worried about you know
whose stats. He's not worried about anybody's fantasy football team.
He's worried about getting the ball to the right guy
to move the sticks. And it doesn't really care. And
and sometimes that's a that's a detriment. It really is

(11:44):
because he does trust all of his players. And I
know we've all said it. There's been times where you
look at guys, it's third and nine and he forces
the ball in schoonmaker doesn't get to play or Tolbert
or you know, and you're like, can you force it
to someone else? But that's just that's what it is.

(12:04):
I mean, he's he's going to the read that that
of the guy that he thinks the ball should go
to and whoever that is, and then and I don't
really fault him for that, So I don't I don't
know how the distribution is going to go, but I
think he's going to throw it to the guy that
he thinks is open. All right, Dylan, And what's it off?

Speaker 7 (12:20):
Balls?

Speaker 1 (12:20):
Dylan? What's up?

Speaker 5 (12:22):
What's going on?

Speaker 13 (12:23):
Nick?

Speaker 14 (12:23):
How are you doing good?

Speaker 13 (12:25):
Still still recovering from watching Rico Dabble have his way
with our defense?

Speaker 6 (12:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (12:31):
For sure.

Speaker 14 (12:32):
But I just had a question and an opinion of
yours today. I haven't been at much this week, so
I don't know if it's already been talked about, but uh,
what is the sentiment about George Pickens getting extended?

Speaker 13 (12:45):
Is it likely or is it more that it's unlikely.

Speaker 15 (12:47):
Going to happen?

Speaker 1 (12:51):
I don't know, I really I wish I had a
better answer there. I I just feel like, you know,
like if Micah was here, okay, and if Michael Parsons
was still on this team and this whole thing was happening,
I would say, he's going to be here. When is
the last time Jerry's ever let go of a player
that was that was having a great year, But he did,

(13:14):
he'd let go of Michael Parsons. Different circumstances, same agent,
but different circumstances, And so, you know, I don't know.
I would think the Cowboys are going to do their
best to try to keep him because they're seeing that
it's not a coincidence that Dak's having his best year
and I think him and CD and Ferguson's having his

(13:35):
best year, and I think having all these guys together,
I just think that they'll try to make it work.
I know you have another point of question, so I
only to get to that.

Speaker 13 (13:44):
I was just gonna say, if they can't make it
work after this season and he just walks, it's pretty painful,
and I would That's what I was just going to say, Like,
if there was any possibility we would trade him before
the trade downline, I'm not saying I agree with that,
but I'm just I'm just thinking about it, like there
even be a scenario where Jerry might trade him away
to get a return on investment before the trade deadline.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Yeah, I mean, I guess I guess that's your the
best way. Thanks for the call, Dylan. You know, I
don't I don't know about trading pickings away. You know,
I just said that. I feel like it's it's one
of those situations. Thank you for the call, Dylan. But
I feel like it's one of those situations where you know,

(14:30):
if you've got a great thing going on offense, you
you have we know this is this is the case,
and it's got to be fixing the defense. You know,
you're still six games into this, you still have eleven
games to go. I want to ride the hothand on offense,
see what's happening there and see and see if you
can kind of build off of that. So as far
as trading him away, I don't know if that would be.

(14:52):
That's not that's not where where I would go. And
I think I would try to resign him. I think
you're seeing career seasons for guys around him and including
him and so and I think you know, he's needed
a situation that was you know, that was better for
him and and maybe a team that that was built
more around the offense like this one is. So I
think you're seeing him thrive and and and you know

(15:15):
he might want to stay here as well. I'm not
saying he's going to take less money. Players don't do that.
They really don't take less money. I mean, there may
be a case or two here and there, but they
might take less money in some category. But the way
it's probably spun to them and all that is that
they're getting more of this than this. Like he's going
to get a big contract and and you know, the
Cowboys are going to have to decide if it's worth

(15:36):
of him, you know, having that contract here and and
but they knew that going in. I mean, they weren't
just trying to trade for the for this year. I
mean they they traded for him young player to see
about maybe having him, you know, for for longer than
one year. So he'll he'll be a guy that you
certainly look at all. Right, Casey Joe in Kansas City,

(15:57):
Good morning, Nick, Are you good, sir? Good?

Speaker 16 (16:01):
Good?

Speaker 13 (16:01):
Hey?

Speaker 12 (16:01):
Do you think since we got a surplus of wide
receivers coming back, that we could possibly trade for a
defensive player to another team?

Speaker 1 (16:09):
Yeah? But which receiver are you trying to Well, I
wouldn't trade our top ones, but maybe you know Mingo
or ILLINOI or Tobert, maybe one of them.

Speaker 5 (16:21):
I don't know, Uh what do you think?

Speaker 1 (16:24):
Well, okay, this is this is where two calls, two
consecutive calls to kind of get married into one. If
if you're going to re sign Pickings then and you
need a defensive guy, then then I mean, I don't
like trading young players away. But the only guy of
that group that probably makes any sense is Flinoy. I mean,

(16:46):
I mean or or maybe Mingo. But I wouldn't think so.
I would think you'd have to probably get rid of Flinoy.
He's a young, you know, talented player that needs to
play more. He's a big, fast, strong receiver. I'm sure
somebody it would be interested in him. But if if
you're gonna, if you're not going to resign Pickens, then

(17:07):
then or there's a question about resigning him, then I'm
not trading away young offensive talent either. So you know,
I don't know if you have to trade any of
these guys right now. I mean, I really I don't.
I don't think you've got wide receivers that you would
want to trade or that would get you the kind
of value that you're looking for. So you know, it'll

(17:29):
be interesting to see how it all shakes out. You know,
now you do have Tolbert, Mingo Flinoy, that's you know what,
four five and six right there? Am I missing someone?
After Tolbert? I mean, I'm sorry, after Turpid and then
of course CD and Pickens. So you know, you might
have you might have some guys inactive that that you

(17:51):
haven't seen in a while. But I don't know if
that means trading them, because I don't think the value
that you're looking for is going.

Speaker 7 (18:00):
To be there.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
I think if you're gonna get defensive Van, I mean
you're probably gonna have the trade, you know, a draft
pick in a pretty considerable one.

Speaker 6 (18:07):
With that.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
All right, let's go to Robbie and Cocoa Beach. What
are you saying this, good man?

Speaker 6 (18:13):
How are you outstanding?

Speaker 14 (18:15):
Man?

Speaker 12 (18:16):
So all I hear is trade, trade, trade, blitz. Let's
blitz fire coach. But that's all right, fand away You
want to fan right?

Speaker 1 (18:25):
Yeah? Well, I mean if you did the first two things,
I don't know if you would need to do the
third thing.

Speaker 7 (18:29):
You know.

Speaker 12 (18:30):
I agree with that, my friend, I definitely do. Hey,
how do you think we're gonna do against the Redskins?
Are the Commanders use my language?

Speaker 6 (18:39):
With the weekend coming up?

Speaker 1 (18:41):
I'm sorry, I say it'll come down to the final
four minutes of the game. It'll be it'll be Oh yeah,
it's gonna come down to the very end of the game.
How does it get managed? You know, who hangs on
to the football, who doesn't make a key mistake, who
makes the field goal? Yeah, I think this game will
be able to come down to the very end.

Speaker 12 (19:02):
Boy, all those things you just said. I could see
USA making a field goal.

Speaker 13 (19:05):
I can see us making a mistake.

Speaker 6 (19:07):
I could just do it good. I'll do it back.
And I'm telling you I love this game.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
I'm telling you. If the Commanders had their own storyline,
which maybe they have a show like that, their fans
are probably saying, I could see us doing this. I
could see us making this stake, could you know. So
that's kind of the nature of being a fan.

Speaker 6 (19:24):
But I sure love this game.

Speaker 16 (19:25):
I love my team, man.

Speaker 12 (19:26):
I'm going to root for him every week. And and
let's just hope our guys come back healthy and then
we get a agent. You'll come back in a month
or so.

Speaker 13 (19:36):
We'll see it happens. Man.

Speaker 12 (19:37):
All right, Hey, I have a great day, guys.

Speaker 6 (19:38):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
All right, you too. All right, let's go to Josh
and Princeton before we go to break Josh.

Speaker 16 (19:45):
Hey, Nick, how was going.

Speaker 6 (19:49):
All right?

Speaker 12 (19:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 16 (19:49):
So about a month ago I called in talking about
one of my favorite memories and talking about the two
thousand Thanks game. Yeah, I kind of want I want
to keep that going, and he with another one. So
twenty fourteen season opener I was at the game, had
a standing room only ticket. Cowboys forty nine ers. That

(20:11):
was the year that Jim Jones made the comment, you know,
off season about an uphill battle. So didn't have highest spectations.
Tony Romo had a terrible game. He had a sixty
quarterback rating, threw three picks, and I remember driving home
on thirty sitting in traffic, listening to the post game show,

(20:32):
saying and just thinking, yeah, it really is going to
be an uphill battle. And then lo and behold. DeMarco
Murray went on to have a record season. Romo had
one of his best seasons. Daz Bryant had a great
season and so my whole point is, it seems like
it's an uphill battle now, but things can turn around.

(20:55):
I'm just trying to be positive and have hope.

Speaker 12 (20:58):
Now.

Speaker 16 (20:59):
I get it, that was week one in twenty fourteen,
and we already played we have we've already played this game,
so if you can't really compare. But my point is
that it can it can change, it can turn around. Yeah,
I mean we have the offensive tools for sure.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
All Right, well, I appreciate that. Thank you for the
for the call, and thanks for that reminder. I think
that's good to know. You know, when you look at seasons,
you know the first couple, you know, first game or two,
and even in this case, first we're six games. I mean,
it's still enough time to make changes. I think a
lot of people, even Dak referenced to the twenty eighteen season,

(21:38):
which was three and five at the bye week, and
they you know, went ten and six, and actually they
were three and four at the bye week and then
then lost to Tennessee to go to three and five
and then and then one I think seven out of
eight and and that loss. This is what's crazy about football. Here,

(22:02):
Cowboys go three and five and they They've made a
trade for Mari Cooper, trying to you know, turn things around,
and they win seven of their last eight games, but
the one loss was a twenty three to nothing loss
at Indianapolis where they just just did nothing. You know,
they'd won what six in a row and then go
in there and lose that game. So football is crazy

(22:23):
and crazy ways like that. I laugh when you say
that game because the only thing that I think of
about that game is is a quote that Mickey said
on the on the fan. They were trying to to
you know, just like anytime an opposing team comes into
AT and T Stadium, they have a lot of fans

(22:44):
and they you know, had something to yell about that day,
and so it was very It was very pro forty
nine or in that crowd. I don't know if it
was fifty to fifty, but it was pretty close. And
that color just popped out. And I remember them asking
Mickey there was a lot of red stadium and he goes, well,
define red. And I don't know why. That just is

(23:04):
funny to me because that's that was Mickey. Mickey's got
answer for everything, and that one was well, define red.
I mean, I don't know what was read to you.
It was forty nine or red. That was the definition,
and they won the game. But as Josh's point here
is that Cowboys turn things around, and even though it's
been six games, look at the NFL right now, I mean,
who's who's good? Think about that as we go to break,

(23:28):
Who's really good? Who's a really really good football team
that is absolutely running away with anyone that can can
win every single game and is not gonna lose. You
find that that team that's what makes this this season
is gonna be very interesting. Let's go to break here
on Cowboy storyline. Be right back after this.

Speaker 6 (25:56):
Dylan, Hey, Nick, how you doing? Man?

Speaker 1 (25:58):
Good Man?

Speaker 7 (25:58):
How are you?

Speaker 20 (26:00):
I'm good?

Speaker 7 (26:01):
I'm good.

Speaker 6 (26:01):
Thanks.

Speaker 20 (26:02):
So kind of a big picture call today. A lot
of people talking about and even today people have been
talking about it trades and what to do with Pickens
and all that, and that it's just they're in such
a weird spot right now because of Dak's age and
his contract and how much longer he's potentially got and
so they've got two first round picks. They've got George Pickens.

Speaker 6 (26:24):
I don't disagree.

Speaker 20 (26:26):
If you're not going to sign, that's a decision they
have to make right now. Are they going to do
everything in their power to sign him or not?

Speaker 12 (26:33):
Right?

Speaker 20 (26:34):
Because if they're not going to I don't want to
wait two years for a third or a fourth round
comp pick to come through. I want I want that
second second, whatever you're going to get for him, I
want it now. So if you're not going to do
everything you can to sign him, trade him away now.
If you are, then that's great. I think they really
got to consider finally attacking free agency.

Speaker 6 (26:53):
I know we all want it, but with.

Speaker 20 (26:55):
DA's age, they've really got to attack free agency this
next year and capitalize the last two or three years
they have a good deal because they might not have
him again depending on how the rest of his contract
goes and his age. I know he says he wants
to play into the forties.

Speaker 12 (27:08):
But they're into.

Speaker 20 (27:09):
Such a precarious spot with everything that's going on that
they need to consider carefully today, right now, moving forward.
I know the front office desk, that's how front office
is operate. They think two three years in the vans.
But they need to consider specifically George Pickens what they're
going to do with him right now today, you know,
before the season's over. And I hope they're doing that.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
Yeah. Well, I'm looking at the franchise tag potential franchise
tag numbers. Yeah, and They're all kind of all over
the map because I'm seeing maybe around twenty five million,
and then the projection is twenty eight.

Speaker 20 (27:44):
First, yeah, I was hearing close to thirty. But I
think the bigger issue with the tag is if George
Pickens does everything right on the field, everything right in
the locker room.

Speaker 6 (27:52):
I hate to get.

Speaker 20 (27:52):
Psychological, but psychologically, what does that do to a guy
like George Pickens if the team doesn't say, hey, we
have enough faith in you that we're now going to
get of your contract. If he gets tagged, do you
think that has a potential psychological impact on him moving forward?

Speaker 1 (28:05):
Maybe? I know big money, so yeah, I mean it's
it's it's big time money.

Speaker 6 (28:10):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
You know he'll have a contract offer though, I mean
obviously before all that and and that's that's what he's
gonna have to have to decide.

Speaker 16 (28:19):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
I say that, I would imagine the Cowboys would would
offer him. He's just been too good and and you're
you're looking for for playmakers, you know, you you're you're
looking for guys that can make a difference to a team.
And I just don't see. Yes, you've paid CD, but
you know you were gonna pay Micah Parsons. I mean,
you were going to do that, and I understand that

(28:40):
that's a completely different side of the ball, but it's
not like you don't have money to do it. You're
looking for difference makers on your team, and I think
that that's what one thing that has shown. But what
I want to see, and I think all of us
want to see this too, is let's see more games
when they're both doing that, and if that happens, where
they go and win in a big time game where

(29:01):
one guy's got one thirty one guy's got eighty five,
but the two touchdowns or whatever it is, and they're
both making huge plays and showing wow, what they can
do together, then I think I think that the Cowboys
would be silly not to try to keep him.

Speaker 20 (29:16):
Yeah, I agree, and especially given decks window. I mean,
they're going to have the wiggle room capwise, because you
don't have Micah. You're gonna pay less for him, so
you'll still have the wiggle room to navigate this defensive
rebuild moving into next season. You've got all these draft picks.
I mean, they're gonna if they were smart, in my opinion,
ye as soon as the season's over, man, I'm trying

(29:37):
to sign him immediately, get that done, and then focus
on rebuilding this defense moving forward. There's no Twinston's like
you said that Deck's having maybe the best season of
his career with him.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
Yeah, I mean, thanks for the call, Dylan, And next thing,
you know, I love hey. I love watching CD Lamb
play too. I mean, he's he's awesome, and he's been
great for this team and franchise, and he's you know,
it's funny, he's like three hundred yards away from being
the third third highest, you know, have the third most
receiving yards in Cowboych's history. I still feel like he's

(30:10):
kind of a young guy, you know, yeah, a new player,
but he's not. He's one of the oldest players on
the team. He was here in twenty twenty, and you know,
that's how great he's been. My point is is that
there are some things that Pickens does maybe better than CD.
You know, I think he is a he's a bad
ball catcher. Pickens is I mean, he catches the ball everywhere,

(30:35):
and I just think he does so many great things
as far as underneath stuff, deep ball, he draws pass interference.
I'm not saying this isn't an argument about who's the
better player. I'm saying there's aspects of his game that
I think is better. I think there's things that CD
does better as well. That's why they compliment each other.
It's a great problem to have because I could say this,

(30:58):
most teams don't have a corner back or two cornerbacks
that can that can check them. So I think as
if they keep playing and keep playing together, I think
that you know, and and again there's no coincidence, Ferguson,
there's no coincidence, no coincience. The running game was was playing,
you know, it was running really well. And so you

(31:18):
get all your pieces back, I think you're going to
have an unbelievable explosive offense that I think the Cowboys
are going to try to keep that intact for one
way or another. Uh try to do that. All right,
Let's go to uh Rick in Webster, Massachusetts. Rick, what's up?

Speaker 21 (31:34):
Man?

Speaker 6 (31:35):
Hey? Nick?

Speaker 15 (31:35):
How you doing good? Still recovering from being sipped over
the weekend and everything?

Speaker 1 (31:42):
But all right, physically sick or Carolina sick?

Speaker 15 (31:47):
Physically sick?

Speaker 1 (31:49):
All right, Well that's that's real bad. Then you probably yeah, both.

Speaker 15 (31:55):
Well, a couple of things.

Speaker 6 (31:56):
One is.

Speaker 15 (31:59):
I don't agree with doing anything with Pickens. I would
say just either sign him or franchise m tag and
then sign him. You know, as you said we were
gonna give uh Mike forty, we can give we can
get Pickens thirty. So that saves us ten million dollars
right there, and you've got to still get to want

(32:20):
to But as far as right now, my uh, there's
a odd things going. How about I know they probably
won't do it, but how about a little bin uh
Wilson up to be a linebacker a play like like
your build a ball a couple of years ago and
have being close to the line so he can you know,
do some buy biker blitz or just cover the runner

(32:43):
from Mike Darris. He's going forward and he has, you know,
the mind you look to word of with have to
be in and stuff like that to make plays instead
of being back at a safety position to try to
cover people. Maybe bring Elijah Clark into that position next
to Thomas right now. But you know the last week

(33:06):
that the film I've seen from other people covering it
is that h Kenny Murray looks lost. Every time he
looks like you looking. He's like which side of way,
which way to go? He's standing there not doing anything, Yeah,
but you know the player's going one way, he's going
the other way. Yeah, So that you know, something like that,

(33:26):
I would take him off the field and luve Wilson
up and then play Elijah Clark. But those are my
thoughts there at Florida's score probably gonna be, you know,
a close game. I would think something like probably forty
three forty cowboys.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
All right, thank you. I'll be a fun game. That
won't help beaver Flus at all. But but you know,
if they get to win, I guess it'll be all good.
You know, with anything that you're trying, any kind of
changes that you make, I mean you have to you
have to wonder, you know what, what's the flip side
of that? You know, it's the other side of the pancake.

(34:04):
As Par Sales would say, Uh yeah, I played Don
and Wilson closer to the line of scrimmage. You know,
I'm a physical guy. He can he could play down
there and then when they when they're passing underneath routes
and things like that, he's got the quickness to do
that and maybe get to the ball carry and all that.
Third and five, Yeah, that sounds great, but what if
they run the draw play. What if they decide, you

(34:24):
know what, third and five, we think we can get this.
So what we're gonna do is, we're gonna take this guard.
See number six right there, he's going right at him.
The running back will be there. We're gonna knock him backwards,
and we're just gonna run it on him. And if
if we don't even get five, if we get four,
we'll do it again. We'll just run it again on
fourth down. You know, that's what the analytics say, right

(34:45):
fourth anything under fourth and two. So my point is
is that you know, if you're going to do that
and you want to be quicker with your past coverage, guys,
don't forget they run at you too. And Marky's all
got run on a lot, a lot. And there were
games when they decided, you know what, let's just go

(35:05):
hat on a hat and we're gonna knock number fourteen
off the ball. And they did Arizona game Week three,
that terrible game where James Connor ran for two hundred
yards and you know they I can't even remember the
quarterbacks name that they lost to Jock Dobbs, I think
it was what it was. I mean, it was a
bad game. But Marquise Bell, there's there was a lot

(35:25):
of that going on where they were running at him.
So what he What players give you on one side,
you know, mismatches or mismatches both ways. You got to
you gotta remember that, you know, Dirk Noavinski, Dirk Nevinski
with the greatest players of all time, Dallas Mavericks, couldn't
stop him over here and always cover guys on the

(35:46):
defensive side of the ball. That's my point. Mismatches both
both both ways. Josh in Chicago, next, how's it going good?

Speaker 9 (35:55):
Not too bad? Hey, So I kind of before the
break you asked about one team that just that's really good?
Scared Yeah, I mean, I think the Colts look really good,
but they've also played some teams that everyone kind of
says are bad. Right, So I think every team right
now looks beatable. And I think that's your point, right,
Every every team right now in the league has.

Speaker 1 (36:12):
Had a loss, And no Cowboy fan is going to
go with you on that because who's their quarterback? Yeah,
and I get it, and he might be Daniel Jones
might be playing better than he then he has, you know,
when he was with New York. He's got better guys
around him, but it's still Daniel Jones. And and until
that he comes in there and recks the Cowboys. That

(36:34):
that's what's what you're gonna think, right So, and then
you know, Cowboys don't play the Colts, so that doesn't
really matter. The Lions are a team that that you know,
they they could be pretty good. I mean, they they
look like they are. They They've had some tough losses.
You know, they lost to the Packers and and and
the Chiefs right on the road. But they look pretty good.
But no, I'm just saying, but beatable. I think everybody is.

Speaker 9 (36:59):
I agree, and I it's funny you bring up the
Lions because kind of my big picture look is when
you look at how good this offense really is, they're
the third highest scoring offense behind the Colts and the Lions.
The defense is, you know, obviously terrible. There's only one
team that's given up more points and that's the Baltimore
Ravens and the Cowboys defense. So it really does come
down and that the point differential for the Cowboys right

(37:20):
now is like minus six so if you really do
get just a handful more plays from the defense, this
could really be something. I think the next three games
are before the trade deadline are what becomes really important.
Like go out there and see and beat the Commanders,
go out there and beat the Broncos and the Cardinals,
and you might be getting some players back too, where

(37:41):
it looks like, hey, maybe a trade. I don't want
to give up a first round pick personally, but maybe
that second round pick is somebody you can give up
for a really good defensive player. Still, that's kind of
my big picture.

Speaker 6 (37:51):
Look.

Speaker 9 (37:51):
Other than that, I'm gonna sip some coffee and my
yetti cup. Thanks again, All.

Speaker 1 (37:54):
Right, appreciate it. You know, it's all right there. It's
all everyone there. Nobody's out of anything right now. But
you know, I feel like the Cowboys have a pretty
good team, especially on offense. Got to fix some things
on defense. But you look at the standings. I mean,
there's sixteen teams in the NFC, right sixteen in each conference,

(38:16):
and there's twelve teams that have a better record than
the Cowboys right now, you know, so out of the sixteen,
you know, when you when you look at playoff picture,
if they put a graphic on the screen and all
that in the hunt and maybe Cowboys would be way
over here. I don't even know if they would even
make the screen. There's you know, there's twelve teams better
than the Cowboys, you know, and so you got to

(38:39):
get got to get in that top seven. It's gonna
be tough, There's no doubt about it, especially with this
is the time of the schedule that they you know,
you've got to get wins like that. You've got you
had to get that win against Carolina, but they didn't.
I mean, so you can't harp on it. But those
are the kind of games that you got to beat.
And one of the teams that's that's ahead of you,

(39:01):
you know, is is Carolina at three and three? I
mean because they beat you, so that that that's you know,
there would be another team that you would you would
be ahead of there. So Chicago's as well. All right,
Chris in Saratoga Springs. Let's go to Chris.

Speaker 7 (39:17):
Hey, Nick, how's it going not too bad? I think
we'll be fine. I think we got to win this
game obviously against Washington. Big Game Division. My opinion lasts
like twenty five years as we've had two outstanding quarterbacks
Romo and Dak, and we're kind of squandering their careers

(39:38):
with our terrible defenses, we really got to pick it up.
I think if we can pull out a move next
couple of weeks like the Ravens did when they signed
Ropeland Smith, I think that would be huge for our defense.
We need we need somebody like that. If we can't
get anybody like that, I would I would just keep
the draft picks, and I would an earlier callers set
about trading my boy Illinoy. I would definitely not move

(39:59):
that kid. I think he's outstanding, and I think that
would be a mistake if we move somebody like him.
I don't think anybody's gonna want to look at Tobert
or Mingo for any kind of trade opportunities. But I
think defensively we need a game change around defense. I
know we're getting email back like I said before, but
I think if we can pull off a move like
the Ravens did with Ropeline, I think that would really

(40:20):
really help us. What are your thoughts on that?

Speaker 1 (40:22):
Yeah, but I agree with you. I mean, you're gonna
have to give up a pretty, you know, pretty good
draft pick. Maybe a second round pick, maybe you know,
the late first or whatever. But you know, for a
receiver standpoint, like, that's the reason why I even mentioned
I don't want I wouldn't want to trade him either,
But you know, teams, teams get to decide what what

(40:46):
the trade goes. You know, you have to you have
to both agree. So it's going to have to be
a young player that that somebody else would want, you know,
So to get something good, you're gonna usually have to
give up something and and and you you know that.
That's that's the only reason why I would mention. But
I'm not doing that. If I'm not if I'm not
signing pickings, I mean, I gotta get him signed. If

(41:06):
you're gonna do all that, I mean, you got to
secure your your your future there at wide receiver. All right,
let's take a break here on the storyline and'll be
right back.

you know, I haven't played. While I haven't played in

like twenty kills. I mean I get like a good
two and he get eighteen. But whatever, it's a team, right,
It's a team, and there's about the team. There's no

(43:12):
finger pointing in Fortnite. Okay, you know what got the offense?
I was kind of the defensive side of Fortnite. But
that's that's fine. Chris in San Angelo, what's up?

Hell hey, mister Nick, how you doing shirt?

Speaker 1 (43:27):
I'm good? How are you?

Speaker 5 (43:28):
I'm doing well? Thank you?

Speaker 12 (43:30):
Hey.

Speaker 5 (43:31):
I was thinking about something back when the Cowboys made
the big trade, the mockt trade. Do you know if
they had to be thinking of maybe one person who's
going to really, you know, like take a chunk out
of that production and help. Maybe maybe they're thinking group,
but you know they might have been thinking, Okay, this

(43:53):
guy's gonna surprise, and that still could happen. I'm just
wondering who you think they might have.

Speaker 1 (43:59):
Been thinking as that's who, That's who they were thinking.
They were thinking as a as a Rock who you know,
had some practices, you know, in training camp Ox and
already was doing pretty good and and they thought he
was going to turn the corner and he still might.
I mean, he's a good young player. I think he's
going to be fine. But I think as a Rock
who was one that they were kind of hoping that

(44:20):
he would he would push forward there and kneeling and
Fowler is going to have another good year.

Speaker 5 (44:26):
And yeah, but that was exactly my answer because I'm thinking, well, yeah,
he's a rookie, but I mean he can rush the
pastor right, so there you go. Yeah, but yeah, that
was that was kind of where I was on. That
was was mainly him. I didn't know if you had
anyone else that they're thinking, hey, we got this guy,

(44:46):
just wait and see. It could still happen, Like I said.

Speaker 1 (44:50):
Yeah it could. Uh. I think everybody knew that this
was going they were gonna suffer in the past rush.

Speaker 11 (44:59):
You know.

Speaker 1 (45:01):
I think that they believe that the running game was stopping,
the run was going to be better, but it just
you know, it hasn't happened yet. You know, we've seen
some holes there in the running game the last two weeks.
Of course, the last one was you know, atrocious, but

(45:21):
still had opportunities to win the game. And that's because
of your offensive production. And so you're gonna you need
to lean on that and and try to make these
tweaks on defense to to to get better, make a
few more stops. All right, Emory in North Carolina will
be our last caller. Emory, what's up?

Speaker 6 (45:38):
Good morning, Nick? How you doing? Man? I al'tost remember me, Man,
I was in New York a couple of times with
you when you were out there to see the game.
But anyway, I want to say real quick right that
our right tackle number seveny eight, I'm not really you know,
as far as names or anything, but steel. He They
said that he was a good tackle for running. I

(46:00):
disagree with that. As far as pass blocking, he's I
don't think he should be over there. I think some
of the substitutes that we had replaced a lot of
those guys with over there, they compliment and making him
a little better because he needs to help. But to
have a dominant right tack over there. He's not that
one as far as the defensive backs go, you know,

(46:24):
And I did just found this out that the defensive
back coach we had we let him go. Why did?
Why do we let him go? When he was not
only a motivator, but I mean like he got the
guys ready for every game.

Speaker 1 (46:37):
Yeah, there's a difference of opinion on Al Harris. You're
talking about Al Harris. Uh. Yeah, there's a difference difference
of opinion in the in the in the building about
about how how good he is, how good of a
teacher he was, and also if he if he had

(47:01):
the big picture with you know, with the Cowboys and
everybody else in in in the right frame of mind
as far as you know, being on the same page
with what the organization is wanting. And also, I mean
he was a let me just say this, he's a
players coach, no doubt about it. A really good one
and a really good players coach. But sometimes on players
coaches it doesn't always align with with what what everyone else.

(47:22):
I just think it was it was just him and
Zimmer didn't get along. That that was very evident. And uh,
and I think that it was his time to make
big changes on both both sides of the ball. He
didn't think he was going to get the coordinator's job,
and so when he had an opportunity to leave, he
he did. The players do miss him, There's no doubt
about it, and I think the defensive backs miss him,

(47:43):
but I don't think they.

Speaker 6 (47:44):
Were going to This guy is horrible. He's horrible.

Speaker 1 (47:52):
Yeah, well all right, thanks, yeah, thanks for the call. Imbri.
I'm sorry, I know you you had more to say.
We got to kind of get it moved. I'll say
this though about Elam I mean, I had a conversation
with him right before training game. He was talking about
why he didn't work out in Buffalo, and he was
saying that, you know what what they what he's done
in Florida and what they did at Buffalo, they were surprised.

(48:13):
He was surprised that they drafted him, knowing that he
was a man corner and that's how he's played most
of his career, and then to get to Buffalo and
play in a different scheme, you know, he was he
was a little surprised, and he was happy, he said,
going into to this scheme and just kind of what
they're going to be able to do. And looking with

(48:34):
you know, eyes forward, but also but also covering, you know,
playing a little bit more man coverage. And then ironically,
as it turned out, he hasn't he hasn't done that.
He hasn't really played they haven't played, uh, the style
that that he wants to play. So Jerry Jones said
it on the on his radio show the other day.
Maybe you'll maybe you will see more man this week.

(48:55):
I'd like to everybody wants to see it. You're gonna
give up big plays. You're gonna give up more plays
by doing it, you know, but you also should get
some as well. If if you're gonna you know, blitz
and and and get after the quarterback more. But you
gotta be careful. And this is a different this is
a different animal to blitz with Jayden Daniels because, uh,
you know he's he's a long strider as well, and

(49:15):
he when he breaks free, you know, he's got some
he he'll have some long runs too. But I'm sure
they'll have something for him. It will be an interesting game.
Dan Quinn comes back and uh, you know that Washington
hasn't been great. They've been pretty good, but they're they're
right there where the Cowboys. The other record is very similar,
so I would expect a pretty close game. But we'll
talk about it all tomorrow. For Chris Beam, I'm Nick Eatman.

(49:37):
See tomorrow and Cowboys storyline.

Speaker 2 (49:39):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
