Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
He's a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the
Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
This He's Cowboys storyline brought you by Gillette, the official
razor of the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Here's Nick Eatman, What is up? Welcome to Cowboys storyline.
It's Wednesday, August the sixth. It's a day off here
for the players and the practice, not for the mowers,
but for not for us, because we're here to talk
to you guys. It's been fun a couple of days
(00:41):
so far. I want to get you guys kind of
caught up on what's happened here. We've got the Cowboys
storyliners that have been here, not all of all of
you guys, of course, but seven of you and I've
got a chance to hang out. We had a show.
I hope you got a chance to see that show.
It's on the website. We're gonna also post it on
the Twitter x account here in a little bit as well.
(01:04):
It was about a thirty minute show. Got to got
to sit here, got them all on on here. They
presented me a football. They also showed a picture of
a Randy who couldn't make it here. He's the only
captain that couldn't make it, But it's still was really
cool to hang out with Irene and and Dylan and
Rob and and then of course the rest of the
(01:25):
guys that were here, Davian and and John, Tay Paula
and Sergeant Sue. He's a character right there by a
lot of fun. So get a chance to check that out.
Very they were they were very grateful to be here
and and and it was really really fun. Looks like
it's gonna be an annual thing, so we'll see what
happens next year. Maybe more people can join them. So
(01:47):
a lot of fun. Now let's talk cowboys. Rams Rams
came in for a practice. You know, it was a practice.
There was no doubt about it. It wasn't a scrimmager game.
They'll they'll play on Saturday at SOFI Stadium. But for
the starters, there was a chance to kind of get
to see some of them. You know, it's it was
it's still early in this in this process. I don't
(02:10):
think that that Brian Schottenheimer believes that it was the
best practice. I think the offense, you know, it's his
first time to call some plays, and you know, the
offense struggled at times. It's hard to say did they
run the ball, did they not run the ball, because
no one was tackling. But you could tell what's open,
what you know, what hole is there and what isn't
and and for the most part, I thought, you know,
(02:31):
the offense struggled. Some defense. Cornerbacks had had some issues
with with DeVante Adams and Pukko who won't you know? So,
But again, I'm not putting a lot of stock into
it's early wasn't real football. And let's be honest. The
Cowboys defense, you know, they they don't have one of
the best players in the NFL right now lining up.
(02:54):
That changes everything. So you know, we we can talk
about it. But I've thought, you know, it was just
good to see them go up against some other other
other teams, other faces, stuff like that. All right, let's
get to the phone lines. Let's start us off. Jeff
is in Salt Lake City. He will go first. Jeff,
what's up many, Good morning, Nick?
Speaker 4 (03:13):
How are you?
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Good morning? I'm doing great, Thank you.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
Good, I'm excited football is back. Just wanted to let
you know I will be in Denver when Dallas travels
to Denver in late October.
Speaker 5 (03:23):
All right, excited about that?
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Good going to the game. Are you just going to
be there?
Speaker 4 (03:27):
Yep, nope. I'm going to the game with my brother
in law. He's a Bronco fan and I'm a Cowboy fan.
So let's see, let's make it work. I understand we
haven't won there since ninety five, but you know what,
there's a first.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
Maybe it's just maybe it's the year.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
I don't want to correct you and make it worse,
but I think they haven't won there since ninety two.
They've beat the Broncos five at home. Surely that's not
the last time the Broncos, but that maybe that is
the last time they beat them. In general, you don't
play them a lot. That's probably right. But uh yeah,
I haven't won up there since ninety two, so yes, yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Anyway, I'll just got a quick question for you, Nick,
and then I'll get off and I'll listen. I just
got to I know we're all sick of the contract
drama with Micah. I love Michael Micah. I agree with
you don't trade superstars, but I got a question for
you regarding future contract negotiations. For example, somebody like George Pickens,
who shares the same agent, David Mulugeta as Micah Parsons.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
Does this situation that's.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
Taking place right now with Micah could that affect the
front office wanting to deal with any Mulagedta clients in
the future. Similar to like you know, when Gak was
going through contract talks with Todd France. Every time I
heard that a client was repped by Todd France, I
almost was like, Oh, no, this is gonna be this
could be difficult. What are your thoughts on that? And
(04:51):
then I also am hoping with everything that I'm seeing
regarding the team, especially at the running back position, I
just want to see Jaden Blue start.
Speaker 5 (04:59):
He's got juice.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
I say, let's give it to the young guys, keep
a veteran as a backup, and we just go from there.
But I'll listen to your answer, off Aaron. I appreciate
you taking the time, and do you have a good day?
Speaker 6 (05:11):
Nick?
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Thank you, Thank you, Jeff, appreciate that. Maybe I'll get
to see you in Denver when you're there. As for
the future contract stuff, you know, I don't think this
agent is becoming the Scott Boris of agents in baseball.
I don't think it's getting to that point at all.
I think you got to remember that every every situation
is different, Dak With Todd Franz, I mean, we're talking
(05:34):
about the richest contract in the history of the NFL,
sixty million per year. This one with with Michael Parsons.
They are trying to be and it probably will be
the highest pay you know, non quarterback contract in the
history of the NFL. So I think when you're dealing
in that regard, Yeah, these things are different. There's no
(05:57):
way that the agent David mullica is is doing I mean,
this contract sets sets the parameters for all other contracts,
and so now the same now with George Pickens. Yeah,
I mean that that's that's gonna be. That's gonna be
a big deal, There's no doubt about it. But Micah,
(06:17):
what does Micah have to prove? I mean, Mike is
the best defensive player in the in the league. That's
what That's what he he believes, that's what most people believe.
I think the Cowboys even believe that, and so they
know that's what they have to pay for. Pickens has
had a lot of question marks and that's still what
how is he going to handle this for this role
right now, it's been really good. And and what does
(06:38):
it what does it look like when he is the
number two receiver next to CD? What do those stats
look like? So you know it's gonna be it'll be
a good contract. But I don't think you can take
things that are happening here. Maybe with with with what's
gonna happen there. If the Cowboys really want to bring
him back, I think they can do that. You just
gotta remember how tricky this this deal is. And you know, frankly, Jerry,
(07:04):
this one, Jerry, you know that this is where that
they step in. You know, this is one of those
deals where Jerry steps in and he did step in.
He stepped in with Micah and and they kind of
thought they had a deal. I don't know if it
would even get to that point with George Pickens, so
different situation for sure. All right, let's go to Zach
in Atlanta.
Speaker 6 (07:21):
Hey, what's up? Nick? And Frisco by way of Auxnarn.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
How are you doing, man?
Speaker 6 (07:27):
I'm good man. I loved the show with the storyliners.
Shout out to all them. I'm sure that was a
great time. And uh, you know Dylan was talking about
Solomon Thomas. How huge he looks in person. I'm like, hey,
can we get sergeants seeing some pads? Three techniques?
Speaker 1 (07:43):
No doubt.
Speaker 6 (07:44):
I told him that on the chat. I was like, bro, what.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Jack Man? He looks like the rock. He looks at
the rock and and him his arm. He's now he
calls himself to pebble because he's not he's not that big,
but man, he is. And and while you're mentioned Dylan,
today is his birthday. I'm gonna give a shout out
to Dylan birthday. And so we got a chance to
go out to the bar last night. They were there
(08:10):
and it turned twelve o'clock and so it was his
birthday and we gave him shout out there. It's cool.
So anyway, but Zach, I'll say this, you're one of
the top candidates that they're talking about recruiting for for
adding to the to the event next year. I mean,
I've heard your name mentioned a couple of times, so.
Speaker 6 (08:27):
I know I hope to be there next time. It'll
be a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Cool.
Speaker 6 (08:32):
Well yeah, man, uh so just a quick question. Well
two one in the practice yesterday, we're Tyler Smith and
Tyler Booker playing with the ones.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
In and out. I mean, they are the starters, but
they may wrap out because they're not going to play
as much. I'm not sure about Booker. He might, but
I don't think Tyler Smith's gonna play. So it's also
one of those things to getting these guys that are
gonna play more in the game, kind of getting a
little bit more reps.
Speaker 6 (09:05):
Gotcha, Nah, definitely. I know they're trying to work everybody,
especially in a scrimmage, but yeah, I was just curious, man,
because are you know the reports of that our line
was getting worked and the Rams have a great front seven.
But I'm like, dang, we can't be can't be doing that.
But it's early. Guys are rotating in. I'm not too
stressed about it. But the other comment question, and I'll
(09:29):
get off the line, is you know, Shot, He's got
the guys practicing hard. I love it. It just seems
to be like a lot of injuries pomping up though.
You know, in years past we lost Sean Lee to
an ACL and training camp. We lost Sam Williams last year,
so I know injuries are a part of it and
(09:49):
it's unfortunate, but that is that different this year do
you see like more injuries. Obviously nothing catastrophic yet Lord Willing,
we won't have any catastrophe injuries. But I don't know, man,
It just seems like maybe they're exercising more precaution when
there is a flare up or something.
Speaker 5 (10:05):
But yeah, yeah, like the list is growing.
Speaker 6 (10:08):
So is that do you think that's a result of
shoddy and do you think he would adjust anything on
that front.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
I think the list is growing. Thank you, Zach, I
appreciate the call. I think the list is growing because
of what you just said about it's being there, being
cautious about it. It's all precautionary moves. So that's why
the list is growing. Because football, obviously it is physical sports.
So when something minor happens, it's enough to say, all right,
we got ninety one guys out here, let's you can
(10:37):
take today off, or let's take it easy, or you know,
let's let's let's you know, monitor this a little bit
more so you know this is This is why I
think it does seem like there's a lot of injuries.
A lot of guys are banged up because you're not
going to push it as much as you would in
other and other times, this doesn't seem like for a
second it did, But it's kind of it's it's died down.
(10:59):
I mean, obviously the first couple of days, I mean
there was about seven or eight guys. I think it's
slowed down a little bit there. And also, you know,
just because they're still very very cautious that you know,
it's what August the sixth, you know, the games is
what four weeks away from tomorrow, so you're going to
(11:21):
start to see them kind of ramp this thing up
a little bit more. Let me go back to the
previous caller to not answer the guy's question, Jeff from
Salt Lake City. He asked about Jaden Blue wanting him
to be the starter because he's got the juice and
all that sounds great, and I'm not necessarily disagree. What
I need to know, what they need to know and
(11:43):
find out is are you going to do the things
that are starting running back does? And starting running back
can can run inside, he can run outside, he can
pick up the blitz he catch out of the backfield,
and you know what, at the end of the play,
they go back to the huddle and play again. They
hands the ball to the ref and they play again.
It's not a fum bowler or anything. And I know
(12:03):
he's had the issues and it's to the point where
you know that's that's been the knock on him in college.
But but all of those things sort of the things
we just haven't seen yet. Can you run is that
you know that that's obviously a big one. But you know,
if you can't, if you can't get the hole and
you can't break tackles and be a physical runner, we
(12:25):
just haven't seen any of that stuff yet. Uh, And
I don't. I just have a hard time thinking then
he's gonna come right in and be that guy. But
he could, you know, because they just played a team
yesterday h in a running back, Kyron Williams, who smaller
than him, and he was a fifth round pick and
he was pretty dang good and and and he got paid.
So it can certainly happen. There's no doubt it can happen.
(12:49):
But I think, you know, let's let's ease into it.
I think Davonte Williams is taking the lead here. Uh
he's been he's been somewhat impressive to me, But I mean,
yesterday they couldn't really get any anything rolling there running
the ball again. It's it's it's early and it's hard
to kind of tell, but but I'm with you on
Jayden Blue. I just there's a lot of factors involved
(13:12):
being the started running back. All right, let's go to
Brian in Kansas City. Brian, what's up?
Speaker 5 (13:17):
Good morning, sir, Good morning.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
How are you.
Speaker 7 (13:20):
I'm doing good man. So I got a question on
the current Cowboys, and then.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
I got a trivia for you.
Speaker 7 (13:25):
Okay, all right, So, uh, you know, in watching the
I think Brought Us is trying to take over the world,
But then watching it all the stuff that he's on
and some of the other people that I follow when
I see you know, camp Risers and Fallers, unfortunately, I
see Mazie on the wrong side of that coin an
(13:46):
awful lot, not just on the channels that Brought Us
is on pretty much across the board.
Speaker 8 (13:51):
So I was curious if.
Speaker 7 (13:52):
You had an opinion on whether he's you know, where
he is this year. I still think, you know, and
this is what I said in January or February. I
don't think the starting one tech is.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
On the team.
Speaker 7 (14:05):
I think they're going to have to do something there.
And then for my trivia question. So, I just watched
the two thousand and nine Thanksgiving Day game last night.
I missed football when it's not on. I ended up
watching this stuff on YouTube, you know. So anyway, and
I will point out that guess that year they went
(14:28):
with running back by committee and it worked. They produced
two thousand yards across all three guys, so it was
actually an effective thing. Barbara accounted for about half of that,
but Jones and Tashard choice accounted for the other half.
And you know, we don't hear that by committee approach
(14:49):
work a whole lot, but it did that year. My
trivia question is what first round Cowboys draft pick started
for the Oakland Raiders that year?
Speaker 1 (15:03):
Wow? Two thousand and nine Raiders versus Cowboys first round pick.
Speaker 5 (15:14):
I'll give you a.
Speaker 9 (15:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
I mean, I'm trying to think when Greg Ellis was here?
Was it Greg Ellis?
Speaker 7 (15:23):
Yes, sir, you nailed it. I'll hang up and look
for the rest of your rest of what you got offline.
Speaker 5 (15:29):
Man, just a little.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
Nervous about that one.
Speaker 10 (15:30):
You get that was?
Speaker 1 (15:31):
That was a good one. That was a good one.
Speaker 5 (15:33):
I like that.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
I remember that game, if I remember, uh, I think
Felix had a long touchdown run you're talking about. You
know that that's a good point. Thanks for the call, Brian.
And and just so you know, just so you know, Brian,
when I get back to Dallas, which is next week,
one top prior to one of my top priorities to
make sure gets your your yettie and your your shirt.
(15:55):
We have we have the wrong address and feel bad
about that. You're one of our top callers and you
always have been, and I want to make sure you
get you get the swags that the rest of them have. Yeah,
I mean what I would like to know about that
two thousand and nine team, And because you know, running
back by committee is gonna work if if if you're
(16:18):
blocking for them, you know what I mean, like like
if the offensive line is blocking, then it doesn't really
matter who it is. And I think that they could
have had running back by committee here. But you know,
for a while, Zeke was the one that did everything
the best. When you think about that, those three guys, Barber, Felix,
Jones to Shard Choice, they all kind of do something
(16:42):
maybe better. Now I don't know about to shared choices.
I don't know what he was the best at, other
other than in that group talking and being a leader.
I mean, he certainly was. I mean, I mean for
the as much as the their running back could be.
But but you know, Felix had the home run hitting
a speed, and Marry picked up the tough yards and
then and then Choice could kind of do a little
(17:02):
bit of both. So yeah, but that offensive line is
where it starts. So you get an offensive line that
can block for anyone, then Chris and I will go
out there and get a few yards. You know, maybe
maybe not, but I think I think that that's where
it starts. So if the offensive line can give the push,
then sure you you might have to to go that route.
I don't think they want to do that. They want
(17:24):
to have a lead back, but nobody necessarily has emerged
for that. Right now, All right, let's keep going here.
We've got Sam in Edroyd, Texas. How you say it? Edroy? Hey? Sam,
how you doing?
Speaker 5 (17:41):
I'm doing great. I promised I ring that I was
trying while they were all traveling.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
Nice. She was worried about that, and so was I.
You know, She's like, hey, we're the we're the main callers,
and we're not going to be able to call so
we need people to step up. So I'm glad you
did tell me where you're from. Again, do you pronounce that.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
It's twenty two miles more.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Christ Okay, all right, that's far in your first time.
I appreciate that you.
Speaker 11 (18:12):
Get born.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
But before I forget, I've been trying for so long.
My favorite player is Sir John Dray. That's how old
I am.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Okay, and my no one's ever said that, but I
don't think anyone ever said that was their favorite player.
By the way, this guy.
Speaker 5 (18:34):
I actually made him.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
So yeah, that's all. Well, go ahead and keep going.
Speaker 5 (18:43):
My favorite wrestler's whole day.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Pablo got me on that one that escapes me. All right,
what't your thoughts on this team.
Speaker 5 (18:55):
I'm excited to see Tolkien as a receiver. I'm excited
to see what media can do finally, and I'm hoping
that really turns out to being the running back.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Yeah, I mean me too, you know, And what I
just said in the previous caller about him, I mean,
there's just lots to figure out. But can you run?
Can't can I mean, yeah, we know he can run,
but can you block? Can you pick it up? And
and you know, can you beat at every down runner.
That's that's what it takes.
Speaker 5 (19:29):
I'm also I want the question I really had was
what's Martha?
Speaker 1 (19:34):
Who mark O s I said Martha? I was like,
who's Martha? You know, I met so many people here.
I don't know who that is. Uh and you guys
on the Twitter spaces, there's so many people that that
I don't know about these about everyone, Phil MafA. I
tell you what Phil MafA is gonna do. He's gonna
run his ass off against the Rams on Saturday, and
(19:58):
he's gonna he's gonna change a lot of opinions. I
really think so. And I'm laughing because Chris Beam is
coming in with an umbrella. He is like saving the
day for me. He's blocking the shade. That is the
greatest thing ever. Sam. I apologize there's a lot happening
here on your first call, but I always say that
(20:18):
Chris Beam is like mc ivor. He can do anything,
and he's a NASCAR pit crew guy. And he just
gave me an umbrella in like two minutes because I
because I was joking. See he's got a nice little
little umbrella over here for his his stuff. And I
just asked him on the chat, I was like, how's
your umbrella? Because I'm baking in the sun, and this guy,
in like ninety seconds provides this umbrella for me. It's
(20:42):
the best. I love. Chris is awesome. Sam. I'm totally sorry.
Let's keep talking here, So tell me what else he
was looking for? Tell me what else you're looking for?
Speaker 11 (20:50):
Now?
Speaker 1 (20:50):
I got some you know what I mean? Chris is.
I was throwing shade and Chris came back and threw
the biggest shade. Okay, how about that, Sam? What do
you what else you got?
Speaker 5 (21:00):
I'll be there next week. I was supposed to go
with the group, but they's sort of change the date
on them. Well, but I go. I got an aux snark,
so it's gonna be my first script pill.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
Okay, well maybe you can. I'll add Chris down because
I won't be here next week. We'll be doing the show.
I'm going back home, you know, first day of school.
You gotta first week of school. Got gotta be back
and I'll be doing shows for back there. But uh,
maybe you guys can hold down the fort here and
prevent any fires or anything like that.
Speaker 5 (21:34):
Okay, yeah, uh yeah. Last year I talked to Nicky
and to Nick and to Clarence that's probably so. Yeah,
that's always fun for me to go. I'll stay with
the chill. Very nice weather over very nice.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
You can be hot, though, no doubt. I mean, it's
not as hot as everywhere everybody else when you're sitting
in the sun for a while. Certainly can be. But
I'm not sitting in the sun anymore.
Speaker 5 (21:54):
So all right, to you, thanks for the call, and
I'll be trying to get through all right.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
The gang, thank you, thank you, Sam appreciate that. All right,
let's let's let's go to Chris in San Angelo before
we go to break here.
Speaker 5 (22:09):
Chris, what's up, hey, mister Nick, hope you're doing well.
Speaker 11 (22:13):
I am.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
Oh, I got it big time. This is this is great.
I'm because it took it took like, seriously took him
two minutes to do it. I mean, now that he's
on the phone and not listen, I'm kind of wondering
why it took, you know, two and a half weeks
to get this done. But whatever, it's all good.
Speaker 12 (22:32):
He's always gonna save the day. First off, big props
to the Gang, the storyliners there. That was a great show.
Y'all did a great job so today and you know,
those are just really good people.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
So no doubt, it's been fun. It's been a lot.
It was a lot of fun. And I think they
had a good time, and uh it was it was
humbling too, and I and I let them know, just
like I'll let you you guys know, the show doesn't
happen without the callers, doesn't happen without the support, especially
now that you guys are taking it to another level
with the with the you know, spaces and and really
(23:10):
you know, becoming a community.
Speaker 6 (23:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (23:14):
Well, and I'm uscle, I'm glad to see got to
have a little bit. Hopefully behaves for the most part,
but maybe they every once in a while they get
to twist off a little bit, and so there you go.
I get twist off then keyword there before we've been alone.
I was gonna say what I what I was gonna
(23:34):
bring is you're kind of a question and opinion. Do
you think that at some point, like maybe the third
game during the preseason, do you think Shotty might run
the ones out there, I mean the presumed ones at
the time. Of course, we'll know more by then, And
(23:56):
I'm you know, I'm talking about Dak and the first
team for for any amount of time. And if he do,
you think that would.
Speaker 5 (24:03):
Be a good idea.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
I don't think he'll do it, and I don't think
it would be a good idea. I'm I'm, I don't
don't need that. It's just there's just too much risk.
I mean, I've changed my opinion on that over the years,
but you would absolutely just be sick if something happened
in the preseason. And uh, I mean we see it here.
We've seen neck injuries in a non contact practice. We've
(24:27):
seen torn acls out here, other knee injuries and four
to six weeks injury. You just don't need it. You
just you don't. And you have a seventeen game schedule.
I get it, You're not going to be as smooth
as you want in the in the week one, and
they all matter, they all count, But I just can't.
I can't afford it. A sixty million dollars quarterback with
(24:47):
Joe Milton as the backup, can't have any kind of
injury like that in the in the in the pre
you know, in a preseason game, it's not worth it
to me. So I don't think they would.
Speaker 12 (24:55):
Either, right, Well, yeah, I'm right with you on that.
I was going to I was gonna call on Monday
after the same question, and I actually changed my mind
since then, you know, I.
Speaker 10 (25:07):
Was going to give it the whole.
Speaker 11 (25:08):
Maybe they could help with.
Speaker 5 (25:09):
The little from a confidence, Yeah, you know, not what
it is.
Speaker 12 (25:16):
I don't want to make the headlines.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
Go go back and look at at the you know,
the last few years. I mean this season opener, you know,
they they played pretty well against Cleveland. Not the best
on offense, but pretty well. You know, There's been some
games in the openers, you know, Tampa Bay when twenty
twenty one, I mean, they scored thirty points and had
(25:38):
a lot of you know, I had a lot of yards.
They've had some against Tampa at home and it was
not good. So I don't I don't know if there's
a pattern of this team always starts out slow in
the in the preseason, I mean in the regular season,
and they need to have more reps in the in
the you know, preseason. I don't think you can make
a pattern out of that. If you could, you might
have a better argument, or who who ever thinks that
(26:00):
way might have a better argument. But the risk is
just so high, and I still think you're seeing pretty
good success to start the year. So that's why I
just wouldn't risk.
Speaker 5 (26:11):
It ight there with you work out the Kings.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
Yeah exactly.
Speaker 12 (26:17):
Anyway, Hey man, I appreciate your taking McCall nick, and
hope to talk to you again.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
So thanks, Chris, appreciate the call. We're gonna take a

storyline presented by Gillette, official shave of the Dallas Cowboys.
Let's talk. Let's get back to the phone lines. I
know you guys have a lot to say and we
can get to Armando in Mexico City. Armando, what's up?
(28:27):
I'm good. How are you.
Speaker 7 (28:29):
O?
Speaker 5 (28:30):
Fun? So I.
Speaker 14 (28:35):
Got training?
Speaker 8 (28:36):
Yeah, you said, yeah, London, Yeah, I wonder what has
he done?
Speaker 13 (28:49):
Have you seen him?
Speaker 1 (28:51):
He's getting some reps because they don't have a lot
of options. Mazzie Smith's been kind of banged up. He
hasn't been the best. Someone asked them earlier about Mazzi
and I think Brian in Kansas City asked about him,
and he just hasn't taken that leap that that you want.
And so Jaytoya has done a nice job, but I
mean it's it's still early for him. But he's a
(29:12):
he's a space eater, and you know, I think he's
going to continue to get better and better. So so far,
so good on him, considering you know, he's a low
draft picked and uh, he's playing a position of need.
I think he's done a pretty good job.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
I was thinking, yeah, I know, I'm kind of about
new because I really sure that he needed a full training,
So I really he's done.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
He's done a good job, you know. Mingo. When he
got here, he had a couple of things going against him,
obviously still learning the offense, and then he didn't play
with Daki. He was playing with Cooper rush and you know,
and Will Greer, I guess in practice and you know,
not a lot of good passes thrown his way. He
really for some reason, he never got a great, you know,
catchable ball thrown it to him. And so we're seeing
(30:06):
a little more consistency there. I think he. I think
there's a more confident player and uh he so far,
so good with him, you know, I mean the receiver's
got a lot of depth to it. The three, four
and five in whatever orders is Turping and and Jalen
Tolbert and and Mingo and then you got Jalen Brooks
in there. So I would say from three to six
(30:27):
you've got some some pretty good competition. And he's right
there in the mix.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
I don't have an interesting.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
To think.
Speaker 14 (30:36):
Well, thank you much done.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
All right, have a good one. Thank you so much appreciated, Armando.
Let's keep it going here. We've got Chuck D's in
Bridge City. Chuck D.
Speaker 14 (30:49):
What's up man, it's been a while it has been
able to get on. Yeah, it's been hard to get on,
which is good.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
Yeah, that's that's good. That's good. But still want to
hear from from the fellas and you're definitely one of them.
How are you doing? Man?
Speaker 11 (31:04):
Good?
Speaker 5 (31:05):
Good?
Speaker 14 (31:05):
Hey, it ain't from the like of effort.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
And appreciate that.
Speaker 6 (31:08):
I think.
Speaker 14 (31:09):
I think the next story on make a shirt that
said resilient, because you've got to be resilient to keep
calling and calling and calling.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
Uh, I should call you guys good. You know, like
we always talk about diehard fans, there's gonna be a
bad one. What y'all are the dial hard fans? All right?
Because y'all y'all have to dial over and over and
over and man, So that's that's what I there that
there's storyline dial hards. So that's good.
Speaker 5 (31:35):
That's a good bad joke, Thank you.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
Thank you, because I definitely am a dad and I
miss my kids, and so the worse the joke, though,
the better, the better it is for me.
Speaker 5 (31:45):
Maybe.
Speaker 14 (31:46):
Well, hey, look, I really didn't expect me to get on,
so I guess.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
You're just calling and all of a sudden you didn't
didn't Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 14 (31:55):
Well, well I'll say, have you seen anything from taking
a big year two leap? Because I know, having a
good center to go a wrong way on that lineman
and they had Frederick and uh some of these you know,
pretty you know dominant centers, it makes a big difference. Now,
I just want to know if you've seen.
Speaker 9 (32:15):
That camp so far.
Speaker 1 (32:18):
I haven't. I can't sit here and say, boy, he's
looked great again. Offensive linemen don't always stand down, and
especially in practice, and we've just got done talking about
the defensive tackle position just hasn't been that great. So
we're you know, they're not. You know, he's not blocking
Warren Sap in the middle here and they're they don't
have that guy. Now Osa gets in there, and this
(32:39):
has been been you know, good as always, but I
think with him you're gonna have to see it in
the regular season. A couple of things. The shotguns have
to be shotguns, STAPs have to be on point, and
they have been, and I think he's going to be fine.
I just don't think we're there yet. But but with
offensive linemen, especially at center, those those guys get talked
(33:00):
about when something bad happens, and you haven't seen it
a lot, necessarily with him. So that's a good thing.
They could have opened a little bit more holes yesterday
and run the ball better. They didn't do that. He's
a part of that. So let's don't sit here and
say it's been perfect. But I think for the most
part you're seeing that year one to year two jump
and I think he's right on path for that.
Speaker 5 (33:21):
All right, well, I appreciate it, man.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
All Right, Chuck, see you later, man, have a good
and thank you for getting in. I do want to
say this, but I know I'm wearing the kind of
different gear today. If you chance this haul up, I
mean this Hail Mary shirt that you get. They have
it at the Cowboys Pro Shop. And I'm telling you, man,
it's cool because this is the fiftieth year anniversary of
(33:43):
the Hail Mary happened in nineteen seventy five. But like
it is the softest shirt ever. I mean it could
say like the Music City Miracle or even the Catch
with Dwight Clark. I mean maybe that might strike a
nerve to others, but like I don't care, Like I
think I think it still might wear it. It's so
it's so thin soft, it's awesome. I know you can
(34:04):
get it in the Cowboys Pro Shop. So I love it.
And I was like, well, I had to had to
rocket today. All right, Let's go to Anthony and Miami.
Anthony the quick, what's up my guy, how you doing.
Speaker 11 (34:17):
I'm doing pretty good, man, Nick, let me say somethingbout
what you just said. Not to catch Nick, I was
like Ted, I was like, oh I was. I wear
that kid's heart.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
I wear it inside out, all right.
Speaker 11 (34:31):
Well, there's two points, two points none one like an accolade.
And basically to Davyyon the Devyond, I took one for
your mom last night, man, took the old shop for
your mom. Resume. She rest in peach, beautiful queen. She
was a cowboy for life. She cool with me. I
(34:51):
saw so with that being said, I saw you guys
just today.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
Man.
Speaker 11 (34:57):
It filled my heart.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
Man.
Speaker 11 (34:59):
You know what, I haven't been to a training camp,
but I've been to Texas Stadium and all that and
stuff like that, you know, for some part tests and
whatever so many times. So but you guys to fulfill
like sorry said a dream. I mean, damn, that's that's
wild man. I'm happy for you guys. The laby next
year will see that. Kick me up on one of
the YouTube things. Because I don't have the spaces, I
(35:20):
don't have social media. And he was like, Anthony, I
don't know who we're gonna have to do something, so
you never know Nick on that part. But I appreciated
everybody I saw, y'all. I really enjoyed y'all. Man, I
see I see you, Captain Rob, I see you with
the go cheat.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
Yeah, yeah, it was it was cool.
Speaker 10 (35:38):
That was the first point. Okay, second point.
Speaker 11 (35:41):
Wow, this one's tough. And if you've been following me,
you know that's my main guy. Defended him since he's
been in the league. Michael came along and became my
one beast. And I don't really want to get on
their contract thing. But at the same time, I love
Michael man. I'm so proud. When we were debating whether
we should tank or not last year, Remember I was
(36:03):
team no tank, and when I him said and this
and that, and then try to file up guys and
say he's looking out for Whosa Mazy. He wants his guys,
he wants to work with him to help him. I
just want the man on the team. So all I
can say on that one, I whole game won against
the Eagles. Michael's there and plays and and yes, contract,
so that's all I got to finished week, all.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
Right, thanks Anthony, And I really believe that he will.
I think Michael will be here there's no doubt about him.
He's you know, I think he's gonna play with I
mean it's simple. I mean, he's out here in the walkthroughs,
he's here, he's you know, attending. Uh, he's not getting fined.
(36:44):
I mean he could easily do that, and and uh,
he wants to be a part of it. If he's
not getting fined for practice, you're gonna get fined for
a game. You're not gonna miss a game. Check He's
gonna play.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
I But I still think they will get something done
between them. They need to build momentum. They need that,
and I just think both sides will will agree to
do that. As for Anthony, as for the talking about
the team here, you know, I think that in speaking
with them, I think that they feel like, you know,
(37:16):
they're representing so many more. I mean, yeah, it was seven.
You know, that's that's a small number considering how many
callers we have, and I mean, heck, I think there's
thirty five or thirty eight on the on the All
Storyline team, and of the seven, five of them were
made it. But my point is is that I think
(37:36):
they they kind of feel like the ambassadors of the
group and and and we're here in spirit. You know,
so many other people here in spirit, and they're kind
of representing you guys. So now we can I don't
have to speculate on that. I can kind of go
to the next caller and see what they think. This
is Sergeist, Sue. He's from l A X right now, leaving,
(37:57):
leaving the la going back home. Now, what going on?
Speaker 6 (38:00):
Man?
Speaker 5 (38:01):
Correct?
Speaker 9 (38:01):
How you doing, Chris?
Speaker 1 (38:02):
Okay, me like that?
Speaker 5 (38:05):
Huh hey, hey, no, it.
Speaker 9 (38:07):
Was great to see you guys. I'm doing well. Uh
But Derek, one thing that I want to talk about
was watching the practice. Man being there, I thought, you know, you.
Speaker 1 (38:16):
Know, I can play this game too, all right, Ray,
I can play this game too, all right, Chuck and
Anthony and that I could do this too all day
long if you really want to play this game, because
you're the one that actually has called it and has
like three different names. I don't even know what to
call you. Okay, is it Dave? Is it the Rock?
Is it the pebble? I don't really know, but no, no, Ikay,
(38:36):
you it's fun. It's fun hanging out with you guys,
for sure.
Speaker 9 (38:40):
For sure, for sure. Now, But I was gonna say
one one guy that really stood out to me. I've
spoken about it a little bit, but given books, he
did really well. Man, he stood out. He was one
of those guys that I felt like, is like, you know,
I don't think he's you know, gonna be much you
know in that wide receiver room. But I thought he
made a lot of plays and hopan is is somebody
who I'm really really excited to see more often. That's
(39:02):
a guy who you know, it's it's he's getting hard
to cover one on one. So I was watching yesterday
and if I saw turping out there and if I
felt like he was in man coverage, I'm watching him,
I'm like, yo, try to get him the ball on
like a crossing route or something where he's where he
forces that corner, that nickel corner, whoever it is, so
to play to trail him. If a corner's trailing him,
he's already got to beat. So that's only thing that
(39:22):
I was really excited about. Man. But uh, I wanted
to she sid light on that.
Speaker 10 (39:25):
Man.
Speaker 9 (39:25):
Some of the wide receivers that I didn't expect to
really jump out jumped out, and yeah, I thought it
was really it was. It was very interesting. But now
I really appreciate you guys.
Speaker 7 (39:33):
Man.
Speaker 9 (39:33):
Of course I'm leaving, and you know all the storyliners
everybody who's listening to man like, uh my, my best
advice to anybody is just keep calling, man, keep calling.
And if you haven't called yet and you're kind of nervous,
a little bit apprehensive, man like I was the same
exact way. And and genuinely I could say that making
that phone call that one day after the Giants game,
you know whatever, three years ago, however long it was ago,
(39:54):
it changed my life. Man, it really did. So you know,
if you if you're listening, you know, just Nicks the
cool guy. Man, Chris is a cool guy, give him
a call. Chop it up.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
Man.
Speaker 9 (40:03):
We're a community, you mean, I mean, so, I appreciate
you guys so much.
Speaker 1 (40:06):
Man, Yeah, well I appreciate you. Thank you so much.
And y'all be you'd be safe going back. Knew it was.
It was a lot of fun and and uh, you know,
to think where things have, you know, started just a
couple of years ago. This is season three, but it's
been two years ago that we were I was here
and and think about how how different it is when
(40:26):
I did that very first show, which is, you know,
twenty four months ago, I'm sitting here, there's no phone
line as sure as heck it's and an umbrella above me,
and it was sitting out here in the sun, and
I had to I didn't even have a text line.
We just had to do stuff off of Twitter. I
think he was even called Twitter back then. But but now,
(40:48):
you know, now, just look at how things have evolved,
and you guys came out and you guys, it's really
a family. So that's what's awesome about it, really, really
is great. I'm gonna go to break here on the
Cowboys story and I'll be right back after this.

Else Cowboys the Cowboys Storylines.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
All right, welcome back to Cowboys storyline. H I'm just
looking at my umbrella here that we had. Chris has
done an amazing job, and I just I was I
was not. I was kind of playfully joking around. He's
sitting here, he's got this, he's got this cart of
all this equipment over here that can't get hit by
the sun. So it's an it's an umbrella, but he's
(42:28):
in it too, and so I just said, hey, nice
umbrella over there. Hell is it? He's like, you can
join me? If you want. It's gonna be kind of
hard on the show. But next thing I know, he's
running around getting getting like little boxes and getting a
stand and then he comes back with the umbrella. And
then now now it's now it's a little I'm a
little chilly now. Actually no, I'm kidding, but it's it's awesome.
So I don't know what it looks like on camera,
(42:49):
but I think it's pretty cool. All right, let's keep
going here. Let's go to Lester in Minnesota. Leicester. What's up, man,
you're in a good mood today.
Speaker 10 (42:57):
Hey, Nick, I said, you may right.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
I appreciate that. Now we're off to a big start
for sure. How you doing many.
Speaker 10 (43:05):
First of all, I want to say a shout out
to all the people who showed up, the captains and
everyone else. Big shouts out to them. It was a
great show. I watched it the other day, and I
hope I went too hard on the other day.
Speaker 1 (43:24):
It's all right, passionate, that's all good. That's what it's for.
That's what it's for. That's why I had a nice talk.
We talked to Rob about it the other day. I
was like, yeah, Rob, Rob can get get after it.
I'll throw it back. But at the end of the day,
it's all good. And I know where it stems from.
It stems from being a passionate cowboy fan that's frustrated
because it's not where you want them to be. So
(43:47):
I understand that.
Speaker 10 (43:49):
Well, yeah, man, I just it was one of to
just clarify one of the things I was talking about
when I said pay him whatever or you know they want,
I didn't mean it literally. I think I said that,
but anyway, what I meant by that is when I
was saying, get the ten core players, sit them down whatever. Basically,
(44:12):
you tear them off, you say, okay, you know, you
have your little tier, you have your little chart or
I'm talking about to on the gym, and then you know,
you pay them. As you know, after two years, you
sit them down, say hey, I want to pay you
now and get it.
Speaker 5 (44:27):
Out of the way.
Speaker 10 (44:28):
Of course they may say no, no, my agent or whatever,
but then you get another year to kind of you know,
keep poking at them saying, hey, anyway, you had the tier.
Some some some are in a tier where you go
over pay them, is what I mean, maybe one or
two of them and then the rest, you know, if
they don't fit what you're looking for, you let them go,
(44:50):
and like I said, y'allways replacing them. You're always looking
for their replacement anyway. Anyway, That's why I wanted to
verify that. But I have some other things I wanted
to talk about. So how did my offensive and my
defensive line look yesterday?
Speaker 1 (45:08):
Not the best?
Speaker 5 (45:10):
Not the best?
Speaker 1 (45:12):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And there was the line of scrimmage.
I don't think was was won by the Cowboys in
this scrimm, in this practice for Matt. I don't you know,
if somebody had to be a winner and a loser,
I don't think you put a ton of stock in
it because of what it is and what they're trying
to do out here. But I think you could tell
that that you're you're talking with a new you know,
(45:34):
you got a system in place with the Rams that
have been here a while and in a lot of continuity,
and you could tell that there was there was some
some newness going on with the Cowboys.
Speaker 10 (45:44):
Okay, all right? And then the other thing I wanted
to touch upon. I think it was about a year
ago I mentioned, uh something about C. J.
Speaker 5 (45:54):
Goodwin.
Speaker 10 (45:55):
Well, maybe it was two years ago. And when we
were having problems with you know, people getting hurt on
the receiver side or the cornerback side, whichever one. And
I was like, well, why don't you put him in?
Speaker 11 (46:07):
Put him in?
Speaker 10 (46:07):
And then you advise me that they have him on
the depth chart as a CB. But he's really played
wide receiver in college. I didn't know that, yep, but
I heard on another show I think Girls Talk to
Boys Talk or whatever, they were saying that Shody is
actually practicing him.
Speaker 1 (46:26):
At whide receiver.
Speaker 10 (46:28):
That when I made that statement was is that instead
of being all shocked and trying to find somebody else,
which she's still gonna do if someone get hurt, let's
have some people that can step in.
Speaker 11 (46:39):
So even even I know we have.
Speaker 10 (46:41):
Third screenforcing, but let's have some people that can, like
like CJ that maybe he's a sixth screen, but you
can put him in there until you find somebody.
Speaker 11 (46:49):
That's all I was.
Speaker 10 (46:50):
That's the point I was trying to make a couple
of years ago.
Speaker 1 (46:52):
Okay, and there could be there's something to that for sure.
All right, what else we gotta keep it keep it rolling?
Speaker 5 (47:02):
What else you got uh?
Speaker 10 (47:06):
Run the ball, play action pass, throw the ball to
my boy CD and my new guy kickings ninety eight
range catch.
Speaker 1 (47:19):
All right, that's all I got, cowboy, all right, Lester,
I have a good one. Appreciate that. You know, you
talk about getting these guys, these ten core guys whatever,
you know, when you look at it on the tiers,
I mean, you've got guys that are the best in
in in the league, the highest paid in the league
at their position, you know, And and and if they're not,
(47:40):
they're they're up there. I mean, dak is at quarterback,
CD is right there at at wide receiver, second or third. Micah,
when this thing is done, will be the highest paid
defensive end or pass rusher. Tyler Smith's gonna get paid,
and he's probably gonna be the highest paid guard or
one of Diggs is still up there is one of
(48:00):
the highest paid cornerbacks. Osa a defensive tackle. Twenty million
a year. I mean, that's that's not that's not right
at the top, but it's twenty million a year. Still
is Bland's gonna get some money. Ferguson is now one
of the highest paid tight ends. Turpin's definitely one of
the highest paid kick returners. And then and gadget players,
and then Terrence Steele at right tackle is pretty up
(48:21):
there as well. So there's ten guys. Aubrey's gonna get
paid at some point compared for a kicker standpoint, he'll
get paid. So you know, that's kind of what you
what you have that's pretty top heavy, and that's why
it's so important to develop some of these younger guys.
All right, one more caller before we have to go.
Jonathan and Fullerton, California. Jonathan, what's up, Bud? Hey, Nick?
Speaker 16 (48:41):
How you doing?
Speaker 1 (48:41):
I'm great? How are you good?
Speaker 5 (48:44):
Good?
Speaker 17 (48:45):
Well, I was wanting to say, I mean for the cutoff,
but just a few cool questions and then I know
you're stuck on time.
Speaker 16 (48:56):
First question is, isn't common and like all the business
negotiations for like owners to do deals.
Speaker 18 (49:06):
Without the agent, Like I know, there's a whole bunch
of talk I don't only get to maybe I was
just curious on that like specific thing, like that's the
common practice for Yeah, it's the or whoever to do
deals with the just the player slowly because I just assumed,
like all.
Speaker 5 (49:22):
The agents they have to be there.
Speaker 16 (49:24):
And then I'm going to the game, the preseason game
to Saturday what what are you looking forward to the game,
Like there are a chance we get some starters to play.
Speaker 10 (49:34):
I know we haven't for a few years, and.
Speaker 16 (49:36):
We got some slow starts to the seasons. I don't
know what the new head coach. Maybe there's a chance
we can see Deck or anyone do a driver or something.
Speaker 1 (49:44):
Yeah, I would imagine probably not a lot of starters. Uh,
definitely not Dak. You know, I could see maybe on
defense they throw some linebackers or something maybe, but I
just don't see that that's gonna happen a lot that
there's you know, there's three games to play. You got
ninety one guys. There's a lot of guys you want
to see and get out here. I just think that's
(50:07):
why they do it. That's why they put scrimmage the
way they scrimmage and practice here to kind of get
the starters some reps against another team. That's kind of
the first preseason game, if you will. That's the closest
thing you're gonna see to that and then from there
that they're going to play these things out. As for
the other question you said about Micah, you know the
(50:27):
owner does he talk to you know, without the agent.
I cann't tell you that. I mean, I don't think
there's a lot of people that don't even know, you know,
twenty of the other owners in the league what their
name is.
Speaker 7 (50:41):
You know.
Speaker 1 (50:42):
Jerry's obviously in a different category, high profile. He's the
GM also, so to throw that part out there too.
He's the GM and the and the owner. And I
think what he did is it was an agreement. I mean,
that's what they thought, and I think that's sort of normal. Hey,
it's a handshake deal. It's an agreement. We've got one. Now,
let's go draw it up, you know, and get the
people involved to do that. And then in that process,
(51:04):
that's where the bottom kind of fell out. That's where
we are right now. So again, I still think it'll
come back. All Right, we gotta wrap this thing up.
We're gonna have a live press conference here with Brian
Shott and I'm here in just a second, and we'll
have some stories later in the day. We'll get to
talk to some of the assistant coaches as well. All right,
fun show, appreciate all the callers. Be safe to the
(51:24):
people going back home. Happy birthday again to Dylan who
really kind of organized this along with Irene did a great,
great job all right for Chris Bey. I'm Nick Eatman.
We'll see you Friday on Cowboys storyline.
Speaker 2 (51:37):
This has been a production of dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
