Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following He is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot
Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
This is Cowboys Storyline, brought you by Gillette, the official
razor of the Dallas Cowboys. Here's Nick Eatman.

Speaker 4 (00:24):
Hello and welcome the Cowboys Storyline. I am Nick Eatman.
It is Monday, August the fourth, beautiful Auxnard, California, and
we are coming to you live here to talk to
some Cowboys football. So much has happened, even though nothing
has really happened officially, but they're sure. I've been a
lot of talk out here, and it's this perfect show

(00:45):
for you guys to sound off and talk about it.
I want to hear from you, guys. I want to
see some of you guys.

Speaker 5 (00:52):
I mean this.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
I'm a little a little bit concerned on how the
calls are going to come through here because so much
of the of the the regular fan base for this
show is actually here. We got to see them last night,
Chris Beamon, I some of the other writers got to
see uh. I think it was seven of them out
here in Oxnard. Three of the captains over there, of

(01:17):
course Rob in Vegas, Irene Dylan. But we'll talk about
the whole group that's here. Can't forget Uh, let's see
Sergeant Sue David, he was here, daveon, Paula, Jontay so
at a lot of good fun last night talking about things,
talking about the show. Of course they're gonna be here

(01:38):
talking practice. We're gonna have them on on another show
as well. Should be a lot of fun. All right,
let's start with another guy on the phone that that's
a that's so much a regular he probably would love
to be here too. With Brian in Kansas City's First Brian,
what's up morning? How are you walk?

Speaker 2 (01:57):
I can't believe all we want to get in now,
I know.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
Well, that's that's not see, there's no competition to get
in today. Everybody's out there. There's nobody calling.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
Yeah, well call back, I guess.

Speaker 6 (02:11):
And yeah, no kid, no, it's share to hear that.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
It's the show difference. I mean, this is the first
time we've actually been on a Monday. We had these
Tuesday Thursdays. Now we're on Monday. So it's one of
those things that you guys have to adapt to the
to the different times. I don't doubt that that will happen.

Speaker 6 (02:32):
Yeah, well, plus you know, five or six of the
people that call in every week being out there with
you in person, that probably makes a.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
Difference, right, for sure, for sure, so's time let's talk.

Speaker 6 (02:43):
Well, you know, I was just thinking thinking through obviously
this happened after your last show, all the hubbub and everything,
and I don't really get upset about the contract stuff
anymore because it's just I've seen so many of them, right,
you know, the I'm an older guy. I can remember
Clinton Merchison famously duck and Roger stallback. And the old

(03:06):
story was Roger had to climb out onto the window
to get his attention. You know, I don't know that
that ever happened, but that was a story that somebody wrote,
you know at one time, you know, you think about Yeah,
just a crazy story, right, he had to climb around,
He climbed out onto the window because he kept ducking him.
Yeah he wouldn't, you know, just kind of and then

(03:27):
you know, take back in after week two in ninety three,
Charles Haley just losing it in the locker room, supposedly
saying we can't win with a blank and rookie running back.
You know that contract, you know, with that contract stand off,
and I guess I just don't worry about it until

(03:48):
something actually happened. You know, from what everybody said, the
companies have no intention of trading him. I don't know
any of the parties involved. I don't know whether that
was bluster, you know, as a negotiating point, or that's
how he really feels.

Speaker 7 (04:04):
And you know that he really doesn't.

Speaker 6 (04:07):
Want to be there. And obviously there's a ton of
people have pointed out somebody else on the Cleveland Browns
just did this a couple of months ago, said I
don't want to play here anymore. I want out of here.
You guys trade me and then find the deal, you know,
a month later or whatever it was. So I figured
I just thought it back in your lap, give me

(04:29):
your your whatever, your favorite contract negotiations stand off story
that you could remember in your time there, that that
you got to see kind of more up close and
personal than the rest of us do.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
And I a batman, you're to talk to you.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
I mean favorite contract stand I mean it's like what's
your favorite trip to the doctor. I mean, like, I
don't know, they're not fun. I mean, I know this
is fun, but I get it. I mean I it's
probably I think a better way to say it is
what's the most interesting, and it's probably this one. I mean, like,

(05:09):
I can't there's been nothing like this when you think
of On one hand, it sounds worse than it's ever
been with anyone else, because he is vocal, he's here,
he's done an interview, and then he has his own
platform to talk and do what he did on Friday.
On the other hand, he's here. You what kind of

(05:32):
stances he really taking. He's showing he's not gonna get
fined for missing practice. You think he's gonna miss a game. No,
no one thinks that. So on one hand, it sounds
as worse as it's ever been because I mean, Miles
Garrett did that in theory. He didn't. He didn't do

(05:54):
it the same way. He certainly didn't write like a
three chapter book on Twitter, you know. So, so I
say all that like this was this has been the
most interesting because it's it's things that are actually happening
in a hold in situation. Do I think that it's
not going to get resolved, No, I I I I

(06:16):
think it will. I'm sorry, let me say that the
right way. I think it will be resolved for sure.
All right, uh but when before the season maybe out here,
maybe when we get back. That's what happened with CD
when they got back. That's kind of what I would
would would guess. All right, let's go to Armando in
Mexico City. Armando, how are you doing? Well? It's nice.

(06:44):
It's it's it's uh cool when it needs to be cool.
It's kind of hot when it needs to be hot.
It's a little bit of both. But you know, we're
not complaining about the heat. But it's fun. It's good weather,
good weather out here. Practice goe go ahead, go ahead,
go ahead.

Speaker 8 (07:00):
Yes, I see some of the gangs there for the
for the practice and to meet you write some great
stuff from the storyline team.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
I mean, oh, yeah, it's been it's been cool that
last night Chris and I got a chance to chat
with him and and and uh hang out for a
little while and tell some stories and talk bad about
all the people that that weren't here, you know, all
the other callers and uh no, but it was it
was it was cool. It was it was good to
put a face with a voice, you know.

Speaker 8 (07:30):
So yeah, so if and when there's again a cargo
in Mexico City. I'll take you and Chris to get
some nice tackles, real tackles, not that weird stuff you Texas.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
Oh, it would like real stuff. Yeah, oh man, we'll
be up for that because we like to eat, so
that would be that would be cool. And uh, I
think there was a It sounds like that, you know,
maybe that maybe next year that that could happen.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
So no, So, Nick, who's yours?

Speaker 8 (08:03):
From this training timp?

Speaker 2 (08:05):
There's always one?

Speaker 4 (08:07):
Yeah, there is who's yours? I mean, I mean, I
know you're not here watching practice, but from the stuff
that you're reading and all that, who who? Who stands
out to you that you're intrigued about? That that I
guess others have been intrigued about.

Speaker 8 (08:23):
Well from the firing from.

Speaker 4 (08:27):
The welsha uh oh, I don't think we lost Armando
here for the call? Why don't we? He's are you there? Armando? Now?

(08:47):
He's off? Okay, all right, Well is in christ you
get any other caller on the line? All right? Sorry, Armando?
If hopefully you can call back, I'll try and I'll
answer that question as well. For me, the guy that
I'm really excited, I'm intered interested in who's running the football?
I mean, who the starting running back is going to be,
who the backup running back is going to be? And

(09:10):
something's got to give here. And I just have this
sneaky suspicion that Phil Moff is going to do enough
to be around. You know, Jayden Blue is going to
be here, Javonte Williams, probably Miles Sanders. They haven't cut
Deuce in two years. I mean, are they gonna really
part ways with him? So I'm interested in all the

(09:30):
running backs for sure, but Phil Moff is the one
I just keep coming back to you because I just
think now it was Brevin span Ford and it still
is because he got hurt. He's gonna come back. Brevn.
Span Ford is the one I really want to keep
an eye on. So that's that's my Those are like
my kind of pet cats, if you will. I think
that they they've got something to it. All Right, let's

(09:50):
go to Richard and Allen Texas. I'll go on good morning,
first time caller.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
First pound caller. But I've been listening to you guys
for a long time. I wanted to tell you something.
So in like eight oh nine, you had a fantasy
football league that you did with the listeners, and I.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
Was on that with you and dere if you to
tell Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think I finished last in
that one. I didn't do so hard. Yeah, it's a
long time ago. Yeah yeah. How'd you do in that league?
Did you do? Did you? Did you do well? I
didn't I got very yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
You know, if there's all if there, if there's no
skin in the game, you know, for when it comes
to fantasy, I mean I'm I'm the guy that might
might you know, start with an empty guy on the
roster or something like that. Now, if there's something to
be one at the end, believe me, I'm I'm at
the you know, I'm twelve oh one. I'm getting guys
on on Wednesday night off the waiver wire. But if not,

(10:46):
I'm like, you know, so whatever, Yeah, all right, well
what do you what do you got for us?

Speaker 2 (10:52):
I want to talk about, you know, I honestly, you know,
I've been a Cowboys fan like everyone else, the biggest
Cowboys fan forever, holding that way. But I feel change, right,
I feel like Shoddy is bringing change, yep. And the
contract talk is kind of just weighing it down. So
I'm working my way around that because we all know
it's just negotiations. He ain't going nowhere, But I just

(11:13):
want to say that, man, for the first time in
a long time, I feel like something's going to be different.

Speaker 5 (11:18):
Now.

Speaker 7 (11:19):
Does that equates to a Super Bowl?

Speaker 5 (11:20):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
I hope so. I mean, I'm a fan that's going
to be positive no matter what.

Speaker 7 (11:24):
But I do feel the change.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
And I was wondering, do you guys out there feel
that way? Do you feel like they we're going to
run this motion offense where you know, I heard someone
where it was like, you know, all the plays had
some kind of motion and we're doing different things on
offense and the defense is going to be different.

Speaker 5 (11:39):
What do you see?

Speaker 4 (11:40):
Yeah, I mean, this is the time of year where
you're going to you feel that kind of stuff, you
know what I mean, It's just you got a feeling.

Speaker 5 (11:47):
It is.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
My friend Chris, one of my best friends, would always say,
you like, I have a feeling, Well, you know, it
could be gas. You know, that could be a feel,
or it could be it could be this, it could
be what you're seeing. And I agree with it does
seem like there's some there's more to this. There does
seem like this is going to equate to success. Maybe
maybe that's just first year coach stuff. We'll find out,

(12:10):
that's the thing. We're about to find out sooner than later.
But I think the foundation was still good. I mean, like,
I don't think you go twelve and five, twelve and five,
twelve and five and then all of a sudden you
just suck. I Now, in this league, parody hits, and
it hits quick. But I still think there's enough great
players on this team that that they can be good.

(12:31):
They have to kind of tweak some things, and sometimes
it is smaller little tweaks. Do I think it's gonna happen? Yeah,
I mean I think this is good. This is going
to be a very competitive team, but there's gonna be
so many tough challenges that it's gonna come down to
the little things. Do they get the turnover, do they
make the field goal? Did they get that that fourth
down stop? And they really needed to get off the field.
So these games are are are gonna be so tight,

(12:55):
and you know, are they good enough to uh to
you know, win those close ones. That's what's gonna come
down to. So all right, yeah, yeah, what about.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
You want to make one call up, go on call
out real quick. I think we're going to go into
Philly Week one, punch them in the mouth, run the ball,
playing tough defense, stopping the run, and win by a go.
I really feel that way.

Speaker 4 (13:18):
Well, I think you know that would set the tone
for everything. Thank thank you for the call. I mean,
you do that, then you know you got everybody's attention now.
But that being said, uh, and I know you know
that that's what they want to do. They want to
run the football, they want to be aggressive, and that's
how you're going to have to do it.

Speaker 5 (13:36):
Now.

Speaker 4 (13:36):
Philly's got a tough defensive line. But but you certainly
can't be scared of it. And uh and so I
think if they if they did that and play even
win or lose, whatever, but show that what type of
team that they're going to have. But like I always say,
in week two is so important as well, because you
got it. You got to show that. Yeah, all the
emotions and the Thursday night and trying to spoil the

(13:57):
party and all this kind of stuff. But now when
it's regular week again. Now you have to come back
the regular week and do this in seven days or
in this case would be ten days. But whatever, go
back in, what happens in week two, what happens in
week three, start to stack some wins together. And so
that's that's what's going to be so important for this
team to be able to do that. Establish something early, uh,

(14:18):
and show that there's change, but then build off of
it as well. All right, let's go John, he's in Delaware, John,
what's up, Bud?

Speaker 5 (14:30):
So next year?

Speaker 9 (14:39):
I do like, I really like, because I feel like.

Speaker 5 (14:47):
Doing for.

Speaker 4 (14:54):
So they do, uh, not really, I mean unless somebody
just would call in and say, I mean, call him
and say we would offer the moon and then to
something where you'd have to be you know, you'd be
silly not to entertain it. But I don't think that's
what they want to do. I think that that they

(15:16):
view him as a player that can change the game,
wreck the game. And you can draft those guys and
and the first second pick, first pick overall, and he's
not going to necessarily hit the way Michah Parsons has.
So you know these guys, these guys are are difference makers,
and they don't come around very often. And then you know,
you just gotta get him signed. And there's no different

(15:38):
than some of these other guys that that that have
that have happened. And and you know, I just I
disagree with you when you say that that that Jerry
and Steven are kind of dragging down the team by
doing that. And I mean, do you don't know what
he's asking for? You don't. And the thing is is
that Micah isn't trying to break the record here for
like thirty minutes. He's not trying to be the highest

(16:00):
paid no quarterback for just a week or two. He's
putting it out there so far that that he's going
to be the standard and and and he doesn't want
to just be jumped by the next guy, and that's
usually the way it works. But but he's that's what
they're asking for so much right now. They're just trying
to get getting meet in the middle. And they will
they always.

Speaker 9 (16:20):
Move, yeah, you know.

Speaker 4 (16:34):
Yeah, And and it's no different. I mean Zach Martin,
I mean Jack Martin got shots thrown at him, So
did c D, so did Zeke. You know, they all
they all do and this is this is really no
no different. But but you know the difference is is
Mike is taking shots back or at least he's he's
not being quiet about it. But I still think it's

(16:54):
all a game. It's all about leverage, and they'll they'll
get done. All right, John, thank you for the call.
Trying to step his game up to be on the
all storyline team. I love it. Let's go to Rick
in Massachusetts. Rick, what's up?

Speaker 5 (17:08):
Man? Then? Probably doing good?

Speaker 4 (17:11):
What's up with you? It's been good, it's been it's
been good. It doesn't nothing feels like the weekend. You know,
you have your work on Saturdays, you're off sometimes on
a Wednesday. I mean, they all there's there's just twenty
twenty one, twenty five days together, just just all together.
So it's funny when you say that. I don't even
know what day it is. Sometimes it is Monday. I know,

(17:33):
if you got to.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
Meet somewhere up, I willed to be out there, but my.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
Plans all right, well, yeah, it's yeah. It was a
good time and and I have a feeling this is
one of those things where it starts out this year
the good, good number, good solid group, and then it's
just gonna it's just gonna build and build and build
it hopefully. If so, that would be awesome it'd be
uh an annual thing. We're getting more people than that, didn't.
You know who knows. I mean maybe there's people in

(17:57):
the area right now that are like, oh, I'm coming
out and if you're if if you're out and you
listen to the show and you want to kind of
uh be involved with the group, I bet you can
certainly get in there as well.

Speaker 10 (18:08):
So all right, Uh yeah, any uh update on any
injuries the people coming back and you know, the ones
that are slightly injured or whatever.

Speaker 4 (18:21):
I can't sit here and tell you I've got a
ton of injury updates for you today.

Speaker 5 (18:26):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (18:26):
That is one thing when you're coming off of a
day off, you know, that's what really important to listen
to to Shoddy here today here in a few minutes, uh,
because he'll he'll have some of those you know. The
one that kind of watches is Tyler Smith. I don't
think they're too concerned with him, uh with the knee injury.
Uh kind of been in and out of the lineup some.

(18:46):
But but again, this is the time of year to
keep you know, your your best players and to and
to keep them healthy. So I you know, he's one
that I wouldn't worry about. You know, Terrence Steel did
come back from an ankle injury. You're gonna see us,
Scoonmaker span Ford. He'll he'll be rehabbing. He's out of
the of the boot that I saw he was. He

(19:08):
might be in and out of the boot, but he'll
be a few weeks. But uh, you know, for the
most part, there's not a lot of major changes when
it comes to injuries. All Right, thanks a lot, appreciate
appreciate the call. How can we take our first break
here on Cowboys storyline and we'll be right back after this.

He's in Midland, Texas. Larry, what's up? Hanging up?

Speaker 2 (21:11):
And how are you doing?

Speaker 4 (21:12):
I'm good? Is this first time called?

Speaker 5 (21:14):
No? No?

Speaker 2 (21:15):
This is my second time?

Speaker 4 (21:16):
Oh, second time caller. That's all right. I still get
to here we go. How you doing well?

Speaker 5 (21:22):
I'm doing good?

Speaker 4 (21:23):
How are you doing great? Good?

Speaker 5 (21:26):
Well?

Speaker 2 (21:27):
The question I have for you is, we haven't heard
a whole lot about the safety position. So how's the
safety position looking?

Speaker 4 (21:41):
You know, it's probably a good thing, you know, I
mean you're not hearing a lot from it. I mean
I think it's it's going well. I mean, Malie Hooker
has had a pretty nice camp. Uh, he's been very
physical around the ball a lot. Don and Wilson seems
to be flying around doing doing some nice things. So
you know, likely any position, it's it's still it's one

(22:03):
that you can only kind of judge so much. Awareness
is the is the really big thing when it comes
to safety. And you know, you've got guys that have
been around, I mean think about I mean the backups
at safety are guys that still play a lot, you know,
I mean Marquis Bell and one Yer Thomas. I mean,

(22:23):
I think Elijah Clark has done a pretty nice job
as well as as a rookie. So you know, these
it's going to be a very competitive battle.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
Awesome. Well, another thing that I'd like to bring up,
and this is this is my opinion. Okay, this is
only an opinion, but my opinion of the Michael Parsons
deal is I think that the fans are making too
much of it and blowing it up too big. I
don't think that the players on the field are thinking

(22:57):
that much of it. They have what they have to
worry about, and uh, I think we need to stop
worrying about it, and I think we just need to
basically look at the team. What is happening with the team,
not so much of Oh, Micah should do this and
Jerry Jones should do this. Let them have their their

(23:18):
little piff if if that's what you want to call it,
or if it's not even that, that's what Jerry seems
to think it is. I think Micah's building it up,
blowing up into a fit, thinking that he can get
them to move faster on their money issues and things
like that. So that's just kind of some of my
opinion of the whole deal. I would like to hear

(23:40):
more about football than I worried about Micah being on
the sidelines and a hoodie.

Speaker 4 (23:44):
Yeah yeah, well you know that's that's that's part of
the of the game. I mean, that's what happens. Thank
you for the call. Larry, And you know, I don't
think the players are as worried about it as you
might think. I mean, yeah, are they posting about it,
and some on social media, okay, But if they're not
post about that, they're posted about something else. I mean,
does that mean they're not focused? I mean, I don't
think so. I think I don't think it's affecting the

(24:06):
team that much. I think it's getting blown up a
lot because of some of the things being said. Jerry's
saying stuff, Mike is saying stuff. And this team, you know,
the national media covers the Cowboys, that's what they do.
This is he's a star player, and he's a star
you know figure, and he's he's here and he's not practicing.

(24:27):
It's different. It's just a unique situation. And I think
that it's like who's gonna blink on this one? And
and they're negotiating every day. Are they talking to each
other all the time? Is Jerry talking to the agent?
Is Steven talking to the agent on the you know,
like on the phone. I don't know, but they're negotiating.

(24:49):
They are talking to each other. It may not be
on the phone or may not be in a text message.
They are definitely talking to each other through the media,
and that's what kind of makes this kind of an
interesting thing. You act like the media is just the one.
I mean, Jerry walked right over to the cameras, and
Micah's sent it out on social media, so it's not
like they're the ones still doing it. Jerry walked. I mean,

(25:11):
Micah's is the one that said I want to be traded,
and Jerry the very next day walked right in to
the where all the cameras are and all the reporters
and said, what do you want to talk about? So
who's blowing it up here? I just think it's a
situation where it's being blown up. It's okay, all right,
let's go to Zach in Atlanta.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
What's up? Nick in Frisco? By way of Oxnard. I'm
pitching it up every time, all right, all right, I
don't know why it's phrasing it Oxnard by way of Fisco,
Frisco by Oxneard. You're the journalist, you.

Speaker 5 (25:46):
Got the degree.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
So man, I want to make a statement. I'd like
to be traded from the fandom of the Cowboys. Can
we just I just want a quiet team that goes
to work and you know it isn't in the headlines.
But I've done this before as far as you know,
declaring I'm done and fed up and I'm back every season.

(26:08):
I'm on the line with you, man.

Speaker 13 (26:09):
What are we doing?

Speaker 5 (26:11):
I'm brought in, you know.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
But it would just be nice to have a quiet,
quiet off season. It was quiet until last week. But yeah,
that that stuff will sort itself out. Two comments and
then I'll hang up. Well three comments. One shout out
to the Storyline group in Oxnard. They recruited me.

Speaker 13 (26:33):
But my wife's birthdays this week, so happy resive to
my wife. Hoping to join next year, but I know
it's gonna be a good time for them, all right.
So two players.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
One, we've got the training camp hero, tray Shawn Holding.
You know, we've heard receivers over the years who make
a splash and then fizzle out or don't make the team.
Is there anything you see different up till now with
Tray Shawn Holding and then film offa. I think the
Jayden Blue and Sol MafA tandem could be something, but

(27:06):
you know, I haven't really heard a lot from MafA,
so before the preseason games could going before the joint practice. Uh,
any comment on those two players, that's all I.

Speaker 4 (27:15):
Got for Yeah, I appreciate it. You know, I've been
talking about film offa. I mean I think I think
he looks pretty good.

Speaker 9 (27:22):
Now.

Speaker 4 (27:22):
Running backs don't get tackled, so when they make you know,
a thirty yard run out in the open field, I
mean sometimes the defense thinks he could be a two
yard loss, you know, depending on who was there, you know,
and and they get their hands on him or not.
But but he's a big runner, physical, you know, speed.
Both of those guys really, I mean one was a

(27:43):
seventh round pick and then the other one was undrafted.
Holden was undrafted. And remember his college coach to junior
Adams was at Oregon, so, uh, he knows how to
coach him and knows what what kind of player that
they're getting. But I think anytime you're talking about running
backs and wide receivers that don't get drafted high, and
you know, in this case, seventh round and undrafted, usually

(28:04):
with a running back and receiver, there's a reason why,
and it's speed or a lack thereof. That's pretty much
the case here. And separation is gonna be big for Holden.
He's made some nice catches. He made some nice plays.
Separation is gonna be big, and the same with with
with MafA quickness. First step, get to the get to
the whole when you know, can you make that five
yard run into a twelve yard run? Can you make

(28:25):
that that one yard loss into a three yard run?
Just because of you know, your your elusiveness and your
quickness and your awareness and uh to to you know,
see see the hole and and and see the defenders
and all that kind of stuff. But I think, I
think how they act, you know, how they play in
the games are gonna be very very big. They've shown

(28:45):
both of them have shown something out here, but you know,
just like with anything, you have to take it to
the game. And we've seen countless examples of five to
ten players that that did you know more than that
twenty players is that we're great out here practice and didn't
show up at the games. And we've seen some that
weren't so great in practice and were great in the games.

(29:05):
Deck Prescott, So are you a gamer? We'll find out.
All right, let's go to Corbyn Corbyn in Stamford, Texas.
What's up man?

Speaker 5 (29:18):
Hello, how you doing?

Speaker 4 (29:19):
I'm good? What's up with you.

Speaker 5 (29:22):
Nothing, just getting ready for school.

Speaker 4 (29:25):
Getting ready for school? How old are you?

Speaker 5 (29:28):
Eleven?

Speaker 4 (29:29):
Eleven? So do you know my nephews? I mean it's
a small town. I mean they they called last week.
You know you'reyah Jeremiah, Eliah Marino and Jeremiah.

Speaker 5 (29:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
I'm actually the one of their best friends.

Speaker 4 (29:40):
Awesome, Okay, I wondered how this this connection was here
that they called last week. Uh So, anyways, what do
you got? Who's your favorite player? I know, your first
time caller. Who's your favorite player?

Speaker 5 (29:52):
I'm the Cowboy?

Speaker 4 (29:53):
Yes, yes, preferably of the Cowboys.

Speaker 5 (29:59):
Uh huh lamb or at that spot?

Speaker 4 (30:07):
All right? CD or Deck? So what what question do
you have a question about the Cowboys or a comment
or anything?

Speaker 5 (30:16):
What is your favorite player in your opinion?

Speaker 4 (30:19):
All right on the team right now or ever all time?

Speaker 5 (30:26):
Right now, right now.

Speaker 4 (30:32):
I'll be honest. I mean, my favorite player to watch
is Michael Parsons. I mean, no, no doubt about it.
Michael Parsons is the is the player that on defense
you have to you have to watch defense. He's made
it must watch. A lot of people love the offense
and the touchdowns, but he is so he's been so
great on defense that you have you have to if

(30:52):
you want, if you have to go to the bathroom,
I have to get something to drink. You don't do
it on defense because something big is going to happen.
So so for me, that's why I hope this thing
gets done sooner than later. So I like to watch
the number eleven out there. All right, Well, do you
have any other questions? We'll just keep it moving for
other callers.

Speaker 5 (31:14):
Not really, I don't have any questions about the Cowboys.

Speaker 4 (31:17):
Okay, Well that's probably all I can give answers for
I barely know what about this team, much less than
any other team, So I'll have to keep it at Cowboys. Corbyn.
It's good talking to you. Say hello to my nephews
there and a lot of my family members there in Stanford, Texas.
You guys have a good one and good luck in
school coming up. All right? All right? Thanks? All right,

(31:39):
that's awesome. So we have another caller here. You have
no huh last third Minnesota? Last? What's up?

Speaker 5 (31:47):
Man? I going on?

Speaker 4 (31:53):
Oh? He can answer, but I'm Nick, So I'm doing fine.
I think he's doing fine, but he always all right,
all right, don't worry about it. It's all right, let's
get to some football.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
Man.

Speaker 5 (32:07):
Let's go. Let's go with this, Michael Parsons sing. Come on, now,
every year we go through this, let's get a little.

Speaker 6 (32:15):
Bit boring, a lot boring.

Speaker 5 (32:18):
I mean, let's let's pay the man and let's keep going.

Speaker 4 (32:22):
How much do you want to pay him? How much
do you want to pay him?

Speaker 5 (32:24):
Just well, whatever whatever he's asking for. Okay, And I
don't mean literally that, but I mean, within the margin.
I understand this negotiation. I get it. But there's always,
like I said, I I went to school Point County,
there's always a way to do things and to get
everybody to be mostly happy. Okay. And this has been

(32:46):
going on for a year or so. Come on now,
you can't tell me that within that year. I mean,
come on, this is a Cowboys thing. They do this
every single year, almost every year. That is a potter
and that's not a uh uh. I mean we can say, well,
this Tame Remembers just got held out in Cleveland. That

(33:06):
guy over there in Baltimore or whatever. Yeah, that's that
happens every once in a while with the other teams.
But this team is like every year almost that's the
kind of it that's not a well this is that.
But let's get this done, man, And I understand negotiation.
I get it. Well, let's get it done. Letter.

Speaker 4 (33:28):
Let me ask you this. Yeah, Jerry Jones and the
and the Cowboys, and then and and a lot of
these big, big companies they get sued a lot. Why
do you think that is? Why do you think people
try to soothe big companies?

Speaker 5 (33:44):
I mean because they foul some sort of loopholes somewhere,
but but they can get get in there, and uh.

Speaker 4 (33:53):
Why not why not sue? Why not sue small companies?
Why not sue a small person that's that you know,
barely has any money. I mean, that's what it comes
down to. It comes down to that. You see someone
with the money, then you're like, you know what, he's
got it, and I'm gonna go for it. And it's
the same with the players too, Like the players see it.
They see what happened last year, and they see what
happened the year before and all that, and they're like,

(34:14):
I'm gonna hold on. This is how I get my money,
This is how I get what I want. And and
maybe there's something to it. Maybe CD got more money
because of it. I know that that didn't hold out though.
That's that's the thing. So but but I just think
you have to remember that there's two sides to it.
And if you say you should just pay him, just
go ahead and pay whatever he wants. Just in December,

(34:36):
when the team is signing players off the street that
haven't played in three years and here having to start
in the game and go because they have no money
and they have no depth. Just remember that the Cowboys
caved and they paid Mike exactly what you wanted to
pay them four million dollars more on the salary cap
this year. How many players could they they have gotten
that could actually play, But now they're playing with guys

(34:57):
that probably should be in the CFL because they don't
have any depth.

Speaker 5 (35:00):
So you gotta remember, give me, let me give you.
Let me give you a quick summary. This this is
what I've never been to gym. Okay, but this is
what I would do if or or something like this,
because I've never been to gym, so I maybe have
some holes in what I'm gonna say. This is what
you do you think of a philosophy or what what?

(35:22):
However you want to run your team or whatever team
you want. Then you look at the colleges and you
you pick out the players that you that will fit
that system that you want to run. You get those
players or some if you can't get them allket you know,
close to all of them. Say it says nine or
ten of them, you you you give them and you

(35:43):
lock them up, okay, and then you you sprinkle players
around them. I'm blowing real fast because it's more to
what I want to say than that. But sprinkle players
around and you always looking for those replacements. Of those
ten players. You put them in the room. You say, hey,
you're my core players. Everybody's gonna get paid. Let's let's

(36:04):
get it done.

Speaker 4 (36:05):
Now, hold on, hold on, hold on, this is really
important question. You put them in a room. Is their
agent present in the room.

Speaker 9 (36:16):
Well, yeah, I don't mean I'm going hell pairs.

Speaker 5 (36:19):
You may put them all in the room together, or
you may just do one by one, but you let
them all know all ten of those that hey, you
are by players. Y'all gonna get paid. Some players may
get up front money, some players may get up back money.
But whatever you want, for the most part, you'll get.
And that's how you do it? Man? Come on, now,
is there players around them?

Speaker 4 (36:41):
What do you what do you think they're doing?

Speaker 5 (36:44):
Is that?

Speaker 4 (36:44):
How is that not what they're doing? How's that not
what they're doing?

Speaker 5 (36:48):
Because what you just said, you you just said that
they end up paying them too much. But you pay them,
you pay them beforehand. You let them know. Look, if
you want to be part of this, this.

Speaker 4 (36:59):
Is the don't you Yeah, don't you think the agent?
Don't you think No, I'm just saying that the agent.
They're not the Cowboys would love to do that. They're
not all Jake Ferguson. Jake Ferguson wanted to sign. Now,
a lot of players don't. A lot of players are waiting.
I mean there's a contract there, there's a number there.

(37:21):
CD didn't want it, Micah didn't want it. I mean,
you know, Trayvon Diggs wanted it. Trayvon wanted it. You know,
So it happens. They they they've done both, they've done
they've done both.

Speaker 5 (37:32):
You may have to overpay a few of them, or
you just say hey, it's a competition. Like I said,
you always looking for their replacement. Anyway, you just let
them know, say hey, if you like with this a fine,
and you know we'll go from there. But you're looking
for their replacement because this is a philosophy you want
to run, so you can always look for a replacement

(37:53):
anyway so you can keep it going.

Speaker 4 (37:55):
That's exactly what this team has done. They drafted who
do they draft in the second around? Azaraku? Is he
gonna replace Micah? Probably not, but that's kind of what
they're doing. I mean, that's kind.

Speaker 5 (38:08):
Of no, no, Nick, because yes, yes, yes, yes, we
get players. We get players that that hurt, and you're
not gonna play them anyway. Man, you can't do that.
Get hurt. We get more hurt players in the second
and third round than anybody, I think. I don't think.

(38:29):
I'm not saying no one else does that, but we
get more of them than anybody. And those are your
premium picks, man, those are potential starters. You get hurt
players if you want them, you get them down the line.
Now every once in I should, but not not, not
not every three years. You're getta hurt player. Got too much?
That's too many?

Speaker 4 (38:48):
Okay, all right, thanks for the call, Lester. I don't
I just it's hard. It's it's hard for anyone to
try to understand what's happening when you don't know any
of the sides. And I'm putting myself in two. I
don't know the side. I don't know the conversation that's
being had, We don't know that, we don't know exactly
what's being said here and there. I think if everybody

(39:08):
kind of knew what it is, then you know, it'd
make a lot more sense. I mean, if DAK agreed
to sixty million a year and if CD went to
thirty four, what do you think they were asking for?
You know, do you think it was always that? I
doubt it. I doubt it. This is what negotiation is.
And nobody's going to negotiate better in any deal, better

(39:31):
than Jerry. So he's not just going to say, Okay,
this is what you want and then we'll do it.
It doesn't happen that way. So you got to remember
where it must have started here and must have started here,
and this is where they ended up. All right, let's
go to break here on Cowboys story and I'd be
right back.

Speaker 7 (41:14):
Hey, Nick, what's going on? I'm doing great? First off,
I want to thank you and Nick for that offme
coming that you guys sent me a really great addition
to my mug collection. Thank you very much for that.

Speaker 4 (41:29):
What's going on today? I don't understand. I'm Nick and
that's Chris. But that's all right, all right.

Speaker 7 (41:35):
You know I know that.

Speaker 5 (41:36):
That's why I say.

Speaker 7 (41:37):
That's why I'm saying, Nick, I want to thank you personally,
you and Nick for getting those things out to us.

Speaker 4 (41:41):
Sounds good, okay, all right, what do you got.

Speaker 7 (41:46):
So that last call? It was extremely frustrating hearing them
talking in. I agree with you one hundred percent. You
just can't cave in to players and just pay them
what they want. To Understand, they have agents, and the
agents will everybody knows agents. They're gonna want their money too, right,
They get paid for representing these players. So the agent's

(42:06):
definitely gonna try to get as much money as you
can for the players. But I mean, I think you
hold the convoy fantasy. To keep in mind, we've been
the Cowboys have been stuck in this dishous cycle for
like almost thirty years. Paying you know, your top players,
what is it like four or five top players? They
take up what fifty sixty percent? Maybe not quite that
much of the captain? Where is that leaf for else?

(42:28):
How do you build a team for backup players when
your starters get hurt? This is exactly what happens to
the team every year. You get these big time players
like Digs and Parsons, not so much Parsions, the other
players offensive line, they go down and then you know
they end up, you know, not making the playoffs or whatever.
I just want to get your thoughts on that.

Speaker 4 (42:48):
Yeah, I mean, it's you're right. I mean, the depth
is so important and you can't just give them, Like
you said, you can't just give these guys what they want.
It's it's it's part of it. And those players and
agents are they're no different than your kids. I mean,
you ask your kid, hey, hey, it's time to go
to bed. What time do you want to go to bed?

(43:08):
I think you should go to bed at nine. What
time do you want eleven thirty midnight? You're like, no, no,
let's talk about this and maybe maybe nine thirty. I'll
deal with that, you know, and then you can negotiate.
But if you just give them what they want, they're
gonna be eating chips and candy and pizza all day
and going to bed at midnight, you know what I mean.
So I'm just saying you can't get it. It's no
different than what happens here. I mean, it starts here

(43:30):
and that's how you negotiate. But if every player got
what they wanted, you'd have sixteen players on your roster
and you wouldn't even have like a half of defense.
I mean, it's just you have to be smart about it.
So I think you get it, and I just know
there's frustration. I mean, Lester in Minnesota, he gets it.
He's frustrated. You're frustrated with it? All right, thanks for

(43:53):
the call. Let's go to a case in Casey Joe,
he's in case morning. How are you doing. We started
with Kansas City, We're gonna end with Kansas City.

Speaker 5 (44:04):
Hey, The one thing that nobody's talking about is the kicker.

Speaker 7 (44:08):
I've heard of anything about the kicker.

Speaker 5 (44:09):
How's he looking?

Speaker 4 (44:10):
It doesn't matter because kickers out here and ox start
don't get evaluated well because it is a tough place
to kick. Wind is always going one way. I mean,
your extra points barely even make it over the line.
But he seems to be making the ones that he's made,
and I think he's gonna be totally fine. Yeah, nobody's
talking about the kicker, but I think that's a good thing.
In this case, that is a good thing.

Speaker 2 (44:31):
I just was scarious because you know, everybody's about everything else.
I just hadn't heard about the kicker.

Speaker 4 (44:37):
Kickers doing great. The head coach is doing it outstanding
as he's as he walks by into his press conference here,
which is which means it's about time for us to
get out of here. Uh as well. No, No, he's
he's doing. You have any other question, Joe.

Speaker 2 (44:50):
No, thank you, Chris, I have wonderful day.

Speaker 4 (44:52):
Okay, I'm Nick and I'm Nick. Yeah, it's all right, Nick,
I know who you are. A biologize It's okay, all right.
That's three times in a row. That's a trend. I mean,
I don't even know what to say about that. All right, Well,
for Nick Eatman, I'm Chris Beam, and I'll see you
next time on Cowboys storyline. We'll see you on Wednesday.

(45:13):
But hey, but before I get out, just stay tuned
to the website. We are gonna have a special show
probably tomorrow. We're gonna have it. We're gonna put all
the guys that are here up here on the set.
We're gonna talk to them as well. That'll be a
cool thing. We should be doing that tonight. Look for
that tomorrow. All right. We'll see you on Wednesday for
the official show and Cowboy storylines here then.
