Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
This is Cowboys Storyline, brought you by Gillette, the official
razor of the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Here's Nick Eatman.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Good morning, and welcome to Cowboys Storyline. Thursday, August twenty eighth, Thursday.
That's right, that's one week away from the Cowboys taking
on the Philadelphia Eagles. We will be in Philly one
week from today. There won't be a show obviously that day,
not as a storyline show or another podcast. So there's
(00:46):
going to be a show obviously at the link later
that night. We'll see how the Cowboys perform in that show,
but certainly going to be a lot of fun. And
I know that we're going to be talking about that
and how the Cowboys match up and how they closed
the gap from what we saw last year and they
take on the defending champions eight eight eight five five
(01:07):
two two nine seven. I know you guys have a
lot to talk about. So last few days, we've got
ten callers right on the dot. Let's see if we
can get better than that. So that means you guys
got to go in and out. But try to get
your point across. We'll have good conversation, but we'll try
to move it along the best we can. Let's go
to Michael Colton, California. Michael, it's been a while. What's up.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
What's going on? Nick? And shout out to the whole
Cowboys nation? And how about them Cowboys man. I'm just
very excited to have football back. And sometimes, you know what,
I'm gonna keep it real. This team frustration me. But
but I'm not even gonna bring all that up right now.
I just I love the Cowboys and I'm glad the
season is back, and I just I just wanted to
want to make two bold predictions. I think that Dadamn
(01:50):
Blue is gonna go for a thousand yards this year,
and I think we're gonna pull off ten winsday And
I'm gonna go ahead and leave it at that. God
bless you and the whole Cowboys nation, and shout out
to all the captains and have a great day everybody.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
All right, nice couple of bold predictions there. Jayden blew
a thousand yards boy that that would be great, uh
for the for the Cowboys if if that is the case,
because he's gonna have to you know, he's gonna have
to do it early to to kind of show okay,
he's the guy, and then they's gonna have to get
you know, get more carries, get more carries. But he's
(02:23):
got to do everything, you know, to be on the field.
You gotta you gotta be the guy that they trust
for everything, not only blocking, not only you know, running
the right routes and lining up. We're supposed to line
up and hang on to the football and all those
kind of things. So, you know, I think he's a
dynamic player. I I don't know if he's gonna get
(02:43):
enough touches to get that thousand yards, but I think
that he's going to be a player that is gonna
kind of be a game changer. And I see a
lot of the Tony Pollard stuff with him when they
had Zeke and Zeke was still productive and Pollard would
come in and kind of have a different role. And
I think that there's a there is a good role
(03:04):
for that. So all right, good, good way to start
us off. How about Anthony and Miami's next Anthony.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
Nick the quick? What's up, my guy?
Speaker 2 (03:13):
How you doing?
Speaker 5 (03:14):
Man? You know what time it is with me?
Speaker 6 (03:16):
Baby?
Speaker 5 (03:16):
He's always positively, always inspiration. Gonna get a people a
little positive and inspiration the beginning of the season. Point baby,
I gotta have the entertainment section now, nigga haven't done
anything in a while. So let's go ahead and let
me let me get these five bars in. Do you mind?
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Go for it?
Speaker 5 (03:33):
All right, ladies and gentlemen, Cowboy fans all around, get lit,
get hyped for the best football show in town, our
Boys versus the Eagles to start the twenty twenty five
NFL season. Anthony's gonna stay down hard cowboy. Don't need
no rhyme, don't need no reason be it picked six
(03:53):
pass run from a return on Arby's foot. As long
as we got the dub, I don't care what it took,
ain't pick and that that offense is scored enough to
be a MoMA leaders of the pet So stop complaining
about what we don't have and who ain't here. Let's
cheer our Cowboys to a happy, healthy, super Bowl year.
That's what I'm about, all right, all right, you know
(04:16):
what I'm saying. Yeah, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yeah, all right, man, that's pretty good. I like it.
If you had a little music. All right, Anthony, appreciate that.
Uh you know, if that had a little music to it,
a little beat, I think that could have been something
that wasn't terrible, That wasn't terrible at all. That's that's
pretty good stuff. I like that, you know what, especially
(04:38):
somebody that that you know, brings the passion like that
and takes the time and energy to do that. I
bet I bet it wasn't. I bet we didn't have
to rehearse that long. You know, he probably flowed that
out pretty quickly. Good stuff, though, I like, like these
two callers, all right, let's go, let's keep it rolling though.
Lestern Minnesota, Lester, what's up?
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Hey?
Speaker 7 (04:57):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (04:58):
And next?
Speaker 7 (04:59):
Hey, I just got a couple of things to say.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Anny, are you going to sing your rap or anything? No, No,
it's kind of hard to follow that, you know.
Speaker 7 (05:11):
I know I'm gonna come with a little a little
It may sound comedic, but I believe that this would
would stop it. But first thing I want to say
is I love to practice squad List, especially Eliza clark
on back. Glad he's back on the list. Yeah, now
that the second thing I want to say that is
gonna sound comedic to some people or whatever. But I
(05:34):
know how you could. What does the push push rate
of success have probably over ninety I know how you
can bring that down to fifty percent? Of Lord, here's
what here's my suggestion. I know it's funny, but whatever.
Go over to Japan and get two big Suma wrestlers.
(05:58):
Suit them up. I know, gon't waste your you know,
your your your money and your spots on the on
the team or whatever. Suit them up, and that's their
only purpose is to go in on the Toush push
and shop it. Seven hundred pounds sumer wrestler. Two of them.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Stop.
Speaker 7 (06:16):
But that's all I got, go cowboys.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Okay, all right, thanks thanks for the call. The fact
that you're laughing at your own statement, though, it is
pretty much all I need to know on that one. Yeah,
that that would sound cool if that's all you had
to do, you know, if it's just you know, this
isn't like college football where you can have ninety players.
So if you can do that and put them out
there and they don't have to do anything else, sure,
(06:42):
But the one thing I've noticed about the Toush push
is once you start figuring out what's going on. Then
they can fake it, and you've seen other plays around it.
You've seen some passes that come from it. So you know,
as soon as you start putting big guys in the
front to say we're gonna stop that, that's where they
(07:02):
can leak out and do some other things. So it's it's,
you know, I hate the play. I think it's it
should be illegal. I've said it many times. It has
nothing to do with the Eagles or whatever. It's just
that I don't agree with it. It's a hypocritical because
you're basically leveraging other people to move you, and you
can't do that in other other spots on the field.
(07:24):
Leveraging is actually a penalty in blocking a field goal.
You can't jump on someone's back to block a field goal,
So why should you be able to push someone in
the back to get to get yardage that you're not
going to get otherwise? That just doesn't make sense, I mean,
one way or another. If that's the case, then let
me stand on someone's shoulders right and you know, and
then block field goals back from you know, sixty five
(07:46):
yard field goal. Just have some couple of people standing
on the shoulders down there, by the by the goal
post and they you know, and then so when the
kicks come and just just block it, just goaltend. I mean,
can't do that either. So that's my point is that's
why I don't really like the tush push. I just
don't think you should be able to do that. And
it's not even that I don't even like it. When
the guy gets six yards down the field and then
(08:09):
the defense stops them and they're all there, and next
thing you know, four linemen come flying in and shove
it four more yards. You know, if the defense did
it and shoved it four yards back, they wouldn't the
ball wouldn't be back there. So I just feel like
they it's hard. It's a hard play to to to,
you know, kind of legalize, but but I just think
(08:31):
it's a hard play to officiate. Really, what I'm trying
to say is the fact that, like four, progress is stopped,
so why should other people allow that progress to start up? Again?
I hate it, but it is what it is. They
haven't changed it, so that's that's it. And then you know,
the Cowboys, the best way to do it is that
don't put them on the one or two yard line.
You know, and that's you got to stop them before
they get to that point. All right, let's go to
(08:53):
Dell in Northport, Florida. Hey, how are you hey?
Speaker 8 (08:58):
All right?
Speaker 9 (08:58):
So I listened back to the show yesterday. I didn't
call intill later on the show, so I missed the
Rob's cousin in New York talking there. Or maybe it
was Rob with a voice changer, I don't know, but
they're like the same guy, I feel like. And he's
talking about LT and Mike right, and it's like, Mike
is not LT. And I'm not going to sit here
and say he is LT. Right Lawrence Taylor, but we
(09:18):
forget right, Lawrence Taylor is like the Saint of edge
players or dns or whatever. And he played for thirteen years.
His team's made the playoffs six times, so less than
half of his season's played. So does he suck now
because the team missed the playoffs all those years in
the third of those playoff runs, right, So yeah, third
of those playoff runs ended with the Giants getting blown out?
(09:40):
So does that mean Lawrence Taylor sucks or that he's
not the guy that he is? Like, it's easy to
sit here and look at the team losing or getting
blown out and being like, well, your highest paid player
didn't have any sacks in the stat sheet, so you
know it's his fault. He sucks when you can literally
just turn on the film, go look at the AL
twenty two and it's easy to see what he does
(10:00):
even if he's not showing up on the stats sheet.
I mean, I'm watching him in the Green Bay game.
He takes on a tight end on a ship block, right,
takes on the right tackle, goes and takes on the
running back, still gets a quarterback pressure. This is all
less than three seconds. And then Jordan loves backpedaling and
just chucks the ball down the field on a Hail
Mary looking throw and there's not a dB within twenty
yards of the receiver. Now has that on? Micah Parsons like,
(10:21):
it's more than one guy. And I'm not saying Micah
is is the end all be all here all for everything.
But you look at the stats and all the advanced
analytics and everything. You see the EPA, which is I know,
you know, but it's expected points at it. It's an
advanced analytics stat They're the number one ranked team in
the NFL. Since he's been in the league in that
particular stat, which is it just measures success per play,
(10:42):
and without him on the field, they're dead last. So
like every stat, every piece of film you can look at,
everything indicates that this team is light years better with
Micah on the field and without. And I can understand
if people want to trade him and get the draft
capital and rebuild and all. That's all logical. It makes sense.
But I won't understand for the life of me, the
passion some these fans have in trading him because they
think he's not good enough. That's where it kind of
(11:05):
rupts me the wrong way.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Yeah, I mean, he's he's phenomenal. You're right about that.
The stats show that when he was here last year,
the last what five or six games, when he came
back from the injury, I think they led the team,
led the league in sacks, not just him, but the
other guys.
Speaker 9 (11:18):
All of a sudden, they couldn't even get a pressure
on the quarterback right without him there, And all of.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
A sudden, Carl Lawson has five, you know, five sacks.
You know he's not in the league, right, I don't believe.
And so that's you know, that's kind of the point
so you're right. I agree with you one hundred percent.
It's just now, are they going to put up with
with everything? Are they willing to to, you know, take
it to the next level, Because that's that's the key
(11:43):
I think with with Micah is trying to figure out
and I think what the Cowboys are trying to figure
out is based off of, you know, based off of
his body tie, based off of how he takes care
of himself and all these kind of things. As he
gets to the next wave here from what twenty five
to thirty, is he gonna still be the same? Is
he gonna be the same player? I mean, it's hard
(12:04):
for me to say that he's not, but history shows
that typically you're not so.
Speaker 9 (12:11):
Right, and you're gonna pay the guy based on what
he's done and what you expect him to do. But
I mean, this is his first big contract and I
think he's got at least another four years worth of
big money in him. At the end of night, he's
rusts to tail off, figure out, then trade him whatever
whatever you're gonna do at that point, but to not
pay him now. Again, if you're a rebuilding you want
to pick that's fine. But as Cowboys fans. I just
(12:32):
think we've got to do better and giving him credit
where credits due, because a lot of us are disassociating
ourselves with him and how great he's actually been for
the sake of well, maybe they just don't like the guy,
his character, whatever it might be, when in reality he's
been like the elite of the elite in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Yeah. I think that's a great point, Dylan, and I
appreciate you calling and throwing that in there. You're right
and voice or reason there. And you know, I is
he gonna get traded? I don't know. I mean I
at this point, I couldn't tell you. My heart says
I hope he isn't because and yeah, I see the
(13:09):
draft picks and all that stuff, but I don't think
they're going to be great.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
Now.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Do you package those up? Sure you can do that.
And if you feel like you needed to get a
quarterback in the next few years, then having multiple first
round picks, regardless of where they are, that can probably
help you get get to where you want to go.
But I'm with Dylan on you know, when he's on
the field, he's he's an absolute badass, and I think
(13:39):
he makes your team so much better. We've seen that.
I mean, when he's played most of the season, you know,
they win twelve games. Now, last year he missed her
i think five games and they were seven and ten.
It's not just because of that. I don't know if
they would have been you know, a lot lot better
if he was out there, but he missed some key games.
(14:00):
You know, I guarantee Detroit's not beating them forty seven
to nine. They're not beating them like that. If Michael
Parsons is out there, no, they were a better team.
They're probably gonna win the game. But I just think
he makes everything so much better. And sometimes you got to,
you know, figure out is it worth it? And you know,
(14:22):
if you've watched the documentary, the Netflix documentary, you know
the Gambler and America's Team and all that. I mean, well,
there are a lot of guys that Jerry was like,
well he's worth it, Michael Irvin being one of them,
all the stuff we have to do, all of these things,
is he worth it? And so that's why we just
haven't seen that if they'd make this trade, if they
(14:45):
decide that Mike is not not you know, going to
be on the team. It would be really the first
time since like herschel Walker, that they've said, all right,
let's go the other way, because it's usually Jerry on
the other end of a player like this and saying,
all right, he's got problems, so he's got issues. All right,
well I'll deal with that as long as he's going
(15:06):
to do this. And we've seen that happen Charles Haley,
Terrell Owens, Pacman Jones, a lot of other players. Some
worked out, some some it didn't. But we just haven't
really seen it much from from this and uh this point.
So if it happens, it'll be be one of the
biggest biggest moves ever. So all right, let's go to Uh.
(15:28):
I'm a in Napa, California. I'm a what's up?
Speaker 10 (15:32):
Hey?
Speaker 11 (15:32):
What's going on? Nick? How are you today?
Speaker 2 (15:34):
How are you?
Speaker 11 (15:35):
I'm great, I'm great. Thanks for rapking, just really quick
on micas since it's you know, it's being thrown out there.
I mean it's the head headlines, man, I why would
you get rid of approving commodity, you know, for draft
draft picks. I get that, like you know, but you
don't know what those picks turn into. I mean, they
(15:57):
could turn into other steads, they could turn into the flops,
you know. Uh, but Mike and Mike has proven and
you know with the pieces that they've kind of added,
I mean, or as far as more defensive ends and
stuff like that. Again, just think, you know, when he's
on the field, you got to see what he is
(16:17):
with with the players that we have now and again,
he's a proven commodity. Like you said before, you prove.
It's not that we win these games when he's for
sure there, but you know, we like our chances better.
I think, you know, just kind of you're saying, I think,
are you know, maybe you add another win or two there,
maybe we make it in the playoffs or not. But
(16:37):
at the end, once you put the pieces around him,
he's the next factor that's going to change the game.
But yeah, I just you know, it's it's it's a
par for the course with Jerry.
Speaker 6 (16:48):
And the team. You know.
Speaker 11 (16:50):
He's getting you know, things are just going to be happening.
It's never going to be settled. But you know, I
just hope he sticks around.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Man.
Speaker 11 (16:57):
I want to see him out there. I want to
see him in the Cowboys uniform plan. But more so
I was calling in to ask about you know, now
that the rosters kind of settled, is there anybody that
you felt like was a big surprise to you? And
do you think that with like Geiton.
Speaker 6 (17:14):
Being hurt and like missing so much a preseason, do
you think he's just like a plug and play guy
or do you think that they give Jones a chance
at that? And then same with Sanders, like it's kind
of surprised he made the team. Do you see him
getting any carries at it at all?
Speaker 11 (17:33):
I'd rather than just go with them with Williams and
then Blue is the third guy, the third down guy,
as long as he can block and just mixing some turp.
And I just don't see a place for Sanders. I
don't want them wasting any carries on him, like, give
give Blue a chance, you know Williams, Like, I just
(17:56):
don't see any reason why Sanders should be out there,
unless you know, Williams gets hurt or something like that.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
And who do you want to play at left tackle
instead of guiding or or maybe they might play What
are you talking about, Nate Thomas?
Speaker 11 (18:11):
Yes, yes, yes, sorry I think I said I don't.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
Know, right, Yeah, Robert, Yeah, Nate Thomas. I mean, good
luck with either one. Thanks for the call. I mean
good stuff, good things to think about. As far as
left tackle goes. That's a great question. Is guiding to
the point where you're like, oh, plug and play. You know,
you haven't practiced in a month since you got hurt,
(18:37):
come on back. But that's the key is when he
comes back to practice. And so it was a good
sign the other day that he was doing some things. Uh,
tomorrow is a big practice day for them, and kind
of this kind of starts the week of practice. So
I think if he can get out there and and
he you know, he did some some good things, So
I think he's already kind of in that in that
(18:58):
uh kind of in that transition back. I think he'll
have a couple of practices under his belt. And if
that's the case, then I think, yeah, they'll they'll they'll
put him out there. You know, Nate Thomas has got
a lot of work. But I still I think their
goal was to try to get Tyler Guidon in there
to to practice some so he could be ready to
(19:21):
play that that first game and then ask for Miles Sanders.
That's a little bit of a surprise too. You know,
Miles was a surprise, but as far as keeping all
the backs there, you know, I didn't think that they would.
I didn't think they would keep Williams and Sanders and Blue,
(19:41):
but or I really thought they might bring somebody else in,
but it just didn't materialize. So you never know something
might might happen. You know, we haven't seen a ton
of Miles Sanders yet. We don't really know how that
all that's gonna work. I kind of thought he was
the favorite for me going into the season, that he
would be the guy that would start. I'm not looking
at what he did in Carolina. I don't think anybody's
(20:03):
gone to Carolina and had success in the last few years,
so I don't I don't even think about that. I
thought he was a pretty productive player for the Eagles,
and I thought, you know, based off a good situation,
he could be that guy here. And maybe he can be.
So we'll see what kind of role that is. I
I think we're putting a lot of a lot of
eggs in the basket of Jayden Blue. I really do.
It's a fifth round pick. A lot of teams passed
(20:26):
on him, including the Cowboys a few times, so he's
got some things, some growing you know, pains that he's
gonna he's gonna experience. You know, he's he's a dynamic
runner as far as you know athletic ability. But I
still think there are some things about him and I
just have a hard time thinking he's going to come
right in and be great. Now, is he Kyrin Williams
(20:49):
from the Rams fifth round pick? That would be that
would be awesome. But remember this, though, I did a
study just a couple of years ago about or just
last year, just about you know, the last six years
of all the running backs that make the Pro Bowl,
it's about eighty five percent of them or first or
second round picks. Now there's a couple of there's some
(21:10):
third rouders like Kamara's made it a couple of times,
you know, And I think most Sturt from Miami was
a fifth round pick, and Karen Williams is a fifth
round pick. So and then there's been an undrafted player.
Maybe most was the undrafted player, but there's only a few.
And so the point is is that, you know, it's
it's it's rare that a guy could come right in
(21:32):
like like Blues. So let's just be careful by saying
why is he taking his snaps and all that. I
think there there's a lot more to it. Let's go
to Zach in Atlanta here before we take a break.
Speaker 12 (21:42):
Oh oh, let's go.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
Okay, oh, let's go.
Speaker 13 (21:49):
In the words of Jason Garrett, it's what Monday right now?
Speaker 2 (21:53):
First of all, those weren't the words of Jason Garrett,
so I love how you did that. And then say,
in the words of Jason Garrett because those two things
didn't mix. Sorry, in the words of Jason Garrett.
Speaker 13 (22:04):
What on game week when it was an off schedule game.
It's like he said, well, it's it's Monday right now? Yeah, yeah,
happy Thursday. Yeah?
Speaker 2 (22:16):
What is this?
Speaker 13 (22:18):
Yeah? And I'm also clapping at the same time right now?
Hey quick, I mean, yeah, super stoked. Let's go, man,
it's game week. What what do you make of the
roster moves? We we let go two of our corners
and then we brought in two guys off of waivers
or something like that. I mean, what do you make
(22:38):
of what we're doing week one? At corner? I assume
kyer Elam and then Jern Bland of course, but what
else are we doing? Because we let go Booth and
Zion Childress, if I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
So well, they added to boys that they felt were better.
I mean, that's that's that's what it was. I mean
that they feel like they feel like this guy was
ready to play. That's his name, Ready, Ready Stewart and
then uh, I think it's Chequeasy I don't know, good
luck with them, Chequeasy Bridges. Those two guys now, Ready
(23:17):
Stewart has been with the Bears and and I guess
ebra Flus knows him. But Stewart and Bridges, those are
the guys that they added to the roster and basically
replaced Childress in Booth. So that's they went with more
experience there. Then it wasn't going to take much to say,
all right, anybody out there that we feel better about
(23:38):
than these two guys, and so they found a couple.
Speaker 13 (23:43):
I got to do it. It's going to be a shootout,
I think it is. This was our offense. That's the
only way we're going to be able to keep up.
So I'm excited. Corners got to be ready, Yeah, definitely.
All right, man, Well, I'll talk to y'all later.

All right, let's uh, let's go to the phone line,
Sebastian and Savannah. What's up, Sebastian?
Speaker 3 (26:08):
Listen here?
Speaker 10 (26:08):
Nick I'm not gonna hold you along because I know
you're good. I'm doing Fineokay, you guys are busier than
I've ever seen. It's amazing. It's fantastic. Shout out to
all the guys who won the award, the Emmy, the
Double Emmy, which was amazing.
Speaker 5 (26:21):
By the way.
Speaker 10 (26:21):
I can't wait for you to be up again next year.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Thank you.
Speaker 10 (26:24):
And here is my questions. I want to pick your
brain about two uff USFL players. Number one, happy Perryan
Winfrey made the team. This team has showed you that
Jerry Jones and Will McClay no stone is left unturned.
So the USFL is actually becoming a pathway kind of
like the minor leagues to baseball to get to the NFL.
So for the guys who don't make it in this
training camp, keep your head hell high, go play for
(26:46):
that USFL and see if you can make it next year.
Which brings me to Cavante Turpin. Clearly, Cavante has grown
some reverence with the coaching staff and the fans, and
it seems like he's a big part of what's going
to be going on this year. But I have a question,
do you think he's going to be facing a suspension
from the arrest down in Allen, Texas earlier this year,
because you know, the commissioner loves the sneaks on us
(27:08):
right at the beginning of the season. That's all I
want to know. You have a great day, love the
popularity of the show. Talking next time, all.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
Right, appreciate it, Thanks Sebastian. As for Turpin, I don't
think that's going to happen, you know, with again, every
every you know, the NFL can do what they want,
Goodell can do can do what he wants. But just
based off precedents, I don't I don't know. I don't
think Sam Sam Williams didn't didn't face that. Every every
(27:37):
situation is different. But I just don't feel like that
that Turpin is gonna I mean I've asked that question
a few I guess it has been a couple of months.
I mean I asked that question. I just I didn't
get the sense that that wasn't going to happen. And
that's usually something that they throw out there in training
camp or a little bit before that. So yeah, you
can go to camp and then you'll you'll you know,
(27:59):
you'll still have that hanging over your head, but usually
not not at this point in the season. I don't
think that that would would be the case. And you're right,
the I think it's the UFL now right, it's not
the USFL anymore, but the same same thing. You're right.
I mean, there there's been some some good players the
(28:20):
last few years and that that have come out of there.
And and the thing about it is is that you know,
they they you gotta be you gotta be careful with
them because they've been playing football all summer. But that's
part of the thing that helps them when they get here.
They have been playing football, so they're they're they're in
football shape for sure. And you know, a guy like
Perry and Winfrey took advantage, and obviously Turpin did as well,
(28:42):
and Brandon Aubrey too. So you know, some of the
cowboys best players, especially on special teams, have have come
from from the other leagues. All right, let's go to
Ali in Florida. It's been a little bit Ali.
Speaker 17 (28:54):
Good morning.
Speaker 8 (28:56):
How are you pretty good, buddy?
Speaker 17 (28:57):
How about you good? Just got home a couple of
days and tried to catch up, but I'll make it
very quick. Thank you for my ad And I've been
traveling with it, and if you and family or Chris
some family want to come to Tampa or throw a
red carpet for you. And then also I think I
(29:22):
was told that maybe you're writing a book. I can
help you with the cover if you need it. And
as far as the game is concerned, I know, on
the paper ego looks great, but I have a gut
feeling Cowboys is gonna win the game. And the last
question I have for you is this, do you think
(29:44):
Michael Parson getting a second opinion on his back is
disguised for a team that might want to trade him
taking a physical And I hang over and listen.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
All right, at this point I said this, It was
the title of our show. At this point, everything is
on the table. That so, I don't know that that
sounds like a good theory. I don't know that. I
don't know anything what's going on with that. I know,
you know. I think the thought about the second opinion
(30:19):
was maybe, you know, see if there is something wrong there,
maybe that's the reason that you don't play the game.
I don't know, but I think at this point, like
I said, all those theories could be true. All right,
let's go to Robbie Coco Beach, Florida.
Speaker 12 (30:35):
Hey, Nick, it's hard to compete with Ali Man, he's
such a cool dude. Yeah, it's funny. So everybody kind
of asked my questions today, but I've got two that
I'll run up on the fly because I only heard
part of what you said on one that was calling in.
So who all there won Emmys? And two of you
got any stories about Bill Bates? And I really liked your,
(30:57):
uh your presentation of guiding versus I want to say
Robert Jones to Yeah, I liked.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
What you said about that. It was gonna be my question.
Speaker 11 (31:08):
So okay, if you don't mind talking.
Speaker 12 (31:09):
About Bill Bates and all of you any good stories and.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
Their Okay, thanks, thanks for the call. I mean, I
don't know if we have time for list all the Emmys.
I mean, they had twelve different categories and all kinds
of things, so we had we had twelve different categories.
It's probably about twenty people. You know, most of the
most of the people that you know, I mean a
lot of them are behind the scenes. I'm not going
(31:34):
to go through all of them, but a couple of
our documentaries made it this last year, and then it's
just just I'm not going to go through everyone because
then I did not forget some and I'm not gonna
do all that. But it was it was a good
a good haul of trophies once again, and just kind
of goes to show, you know, the work that a
(31:56):
lot of our guys do behind the scenes and then
some of it in front of the camera as well.
And then Bill Bates, Uh, you know, I'm I mean,
you know, when I was a kid, I mean, my like,
my dad loved Bill Bates. You know, he was he
was a fan favorite from the very beginning, you know,
and so you know, I had a shirt that I
(32:17):
wore I think when I was seven years old that
to a game and it was made. But it was like,
here comes the next Bill Bates. You know. I mean
that that's how much you know, I was a little
kid in Oklahoma, and that's how much that that that
he had an impact on people just because I think
that they loved his his grit and just his story
and overcoming adversity and overcoming the odds of a guy
(32:39):
that you know, wasn't very fast, he wasn't very big,
but he was tough as nails and and there was
a role for him, and then they made a role
for special teams on that. So yeah, I mean, Bill
just it's it's amazing. His story is is awesome, and
you know, just for us, just hope that you know,
he is doing well health wise. I know, you know,
it's been a little bit of a challenge for him,
(33:00):
but you know, just always been a fan favorite for sure.
All right, let's go take one more break here on
Cowboys storyline and we'll be right back after this.

He's in Massachusetts. Rick, what is up?
Speaker 5 (34:32):
Hey?
Speaker 20 (34:33):
Nick Cale? You do him?
Speaker 2 (34:34):
I'm good? How are you?
Speaker 7 (34:36):
Okay?
Speaker 20 (34:37):
But I say I had a couple of things. I
agree with what Rob said earl Rob Dylan said earlier
and everything I agree with all of that.
Speaker 2 (34:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 20 (34:45):
Also that guy from Georgia, from New York, when he called,
we were talking about, Oh, we got a tough schedule.
We got to face all these people here while the
Eagles and the Commanders and the Giants have to face
the same teams and Eagles have to place the first
place teams. Well, we only have to place the third
place teams on those three extra games. So's you got
(35:07):
to look at both sides. They got a tough schedule,
We got a tough schedule, so to go either way.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
Yeah, I mean, I think that what makes it tough too.
It's just that, you know, the divisions that you match
up with are the divisions that had three teams and
make it to the playoffs, you know, So, I mean
you have to take on the AFC West, I believe
(35:33):
the Chiefs, the Chargers, and the Broncos maybe made made
the playoffs. And then on the NFC North, the Lions,
the Vikings, the Packers, they all made it. And the
Bears are a team that's supposed to be better too.
So I mean that's one of those things. You're right
third place, first place, but still these teams were playoff teams,
and so I think that's what makes the schedule. It
(35:54):
doesn't seem to forget the Eagles. It's not a traditional
third place schedule because the Cowboys are facing third place
teams that made the playoffs.
Speaker 20 (36:04):
Yeah, the other question I had was he heard on
Isaiah Land or zeon Trail? Just going back and practice.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
One Isaiah Land. That's what I've I've heard. I've heard that.
I know Patrick Walker was working on that story last night.
I believe that is the plan, uh, that he would
he would be back here. You know, that seems so
long ago. It's only been a couple of years. I
know that he was a fan favorite for sure, but
(36:32):
I didn't I didn't know that, you know, kind of
where he had been. I think I know he went
to the Colt. I'm not really sure, but yeah, he
was a guy that that you know, made a little
waves of training camp. They just couldn't find a spot
for him. They thought it could get him on the
practice squad. It didn't work out. But anyways, Yeah, he
does seem like that that is the going to happen.
But this is one of those times where they're just
(36:53):
trying to figure out who all's here and they claim
some guys and they cut Childress and both and maybe
they're gonna put both of them on the practice card.
So there's a there's a few moving parts here, all right.
It's going to Cowboy Nico. He's in Colorado, Springs.
Speaker 3 (37:10):
Hey, what's about Nick? How are you doing? Man? I
hear that it's a great show so far. I truly
enjoy it. You know it's hard to get in, but
I appreciate you taking my call and Chris doing all
the work back there real quick. I just wanted to
touch on something Nick. I Man, I'm nervous. I think,
honestly we're gonna go seven and ten this season. I
(37:32):
just don't believe in Schottenheimer. I told you that when
he got hired. I just don't believe in him. I
know we haven't seen anything, but I don't believe in
him until you do something I don't. I don't have
a choice not to believe in you. And the last
thing I got is that documentary is fantastic. I highly
recommend all Cowboy fans watching it. It brought me back,
(37:54):
you know, a couple of years, and I enjoyed that.
But I want that Jerry Jones back. I don't know
where he's been, I don't know what's happened, but I
want that Jerry Jones back, that fire that I will
buy a super Bowl if I have to, I will
(38:14):
throw the NFL system and go with PEPSI and Miller Lite.
I want that, Jerry Jones, not as an owner, I
want it as a GM Jerry, get us a super
Bowl because this year this ain't it. Nick, That's all
I got.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
I'm out, all right, appreciate it. Uh, you know, I
don't know. That's just a matter of opinion when it
comes to, you know, just saying I don't trust this guy.
I don't believe in him. I don't know anything about him,
but I don't. I just don't believe in him. You
know that. Yeah, you don't have to. I mean, that's
(38:49):
totally fine as long as that's kind of consistent that
that's kind of the way it is. You don't believe
in the coach for the Bears, you know, you don't
believe in any of those first year coaches or anything
like that until they do something, which is fine, you know,
and that is totally within your right. I mean there's
probably people that didn't believe in Andy Reid, you know,
and then he's he's one of the best of all time.
(39:10):
I mean that Bill Belichick, you know, didn't didn't really
work out his first his first place, Pete Carroll, those guys,
I mean, Jimmy Johnson went one in fifteen. I mean,
there's a lot of guys, you know, you don't believe
in them, these people early on. So and I'm not
saying he's gonna be one of those. I'm just saying
I like what I've heard and seen from him so far.
But yeah, we all know this was gonna happen. He
(39:33):
could win the offseason because they don't keep score. But
if they don't, if he doesn't do push the right
buttons here this week against Philly or next few games
or whatever, then yeah he'll have He'll have the you know,
fans hot and upset and stuff like that. I mean,
everybody loved Jason Garrett. Everyone loved Garrett as a player
(39:55):
and then first year interim coach, he did pretty good job,
turned some things around. He had the right attitude, all
that stuff. But then he went eight and eight three
years in a row, and then everybody's kind of changed
their tune and they call them names, and he's got
you know, memes and stuff like that. So you have
to win. That's what it is. It doesn't matter. You
have to win. We all know that. All right, Let's
go to Brian and Fresno.
Speaker 8 (40:17):
Hey, Nick, thanks for taking my call.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
Man, oh problem, how are you doing?
Speaker 8 (40:21):
I'm doing well, watching a long time, my first time
coming on the show, and that's kit you okay? Really
just that remained positive going into the season. Longtime Cowboy
fan forty three years here, I'm not giving up on
the team, but I will say I'm half to my
doubts about this Cowboys team. Yeah, you know the main
(40:45):
I think, you know, we haven't done enough to address
the run games. Still a lot of questions there on
the back end. Safety spot in particular, got from my
play going into this year's play, I just don't trust
those safeties. Quarterback you know, be a toss up. I
think we have the work. Really, my question to you,
Nick is what's your confidence level? And Dak going into
(41:08):
the season, just from the last interview I watched him,
he looks scared to me, he doesn't sound very confident,
and I know he's probably worried about the running game,
so most Cowboy fans are. I'm hoping that that area
will improve this year from last year. Maybe we have
somebody there blue or somebody that can show up and
(41:30):
make this thing work. But my question to you is
is what confidence do you think you have in Dak
this year moving forward, you do you see him returning
to for him and playing well, I know a lot
of things right on that, especially with this offensive line.
But what's your gut telling you this year with Dak?
Speaker 2 (41:48):
All right? Well, I think I don't know what interview
you saw or you know, I guess it was the
last one he did, and I don't know which part
of it got you to say that, or you know,
he might be a lot of things. I don't think
he's scared. I don't think scared is going to be
one of them. I don't believe that. I just that's
something that I've always thought when you when you've dealt
(42:10):
with things in your personal life much bigger than than football,
that that isn't the actual mindset that that you have.
So maybe he's not as confident about some areas or whatever.
I don't know if scared the right word, but you know,
maybe just unsure, if that's what you're what you're saying.
(42:33):
I think he's going to be confident. I think he
thinks that they they've got some weapons here that they
haven't had before. So I think I think he's actually
probably got more confidence about this offense than we've seen
and I think, you know, as long as he can
find a way to play football, you know, play football,
Run when you have to run, slide when you have
to slide, get rid of the ball. But you know
(42:55):
you can't. You can't do this, you know, read options
and not ever keep the ball. You have to you
have to do that or that. That stuff's not going
to work. So I think if you can get into
the flow, don't think about injury, don't worry about that,
just go play football. I think that's when he's at
his best, and I think this team can can have
some success. All right, let's go to our last caller today,
Irene in Falls Church, Virginia. Irene, what's up, hey.
Speaker 21 (43:18):
There, I'll make it quick. So I just wanted to
say I liked the way they constructed the roster this year.
I know people were freaking out about wide receiver six.
But if you have three guys who you think can
make it there, get rid of them and see who
comes back, it's all good. I like them going short
on tight end. You know, whatever that shoulder injury is
(43:38):
with our running back, maybe it's like somebody else's back.
I don't know, but I love how they did it,
and I love, love, love that they rewarded Houston and
win Free to get on the team.
Speaker 13 (43:48):
They deserved it.
Speaker 21 (43:49):
They worked their way on.
Speaker 18 (43:51):
You know.
Speaker 21 (43:51):
That's about it for me. I just like the way
they did it. We didn't get pressed about wide receiver
six and whatever, tight end seven.
Speaker 2 (44:00):
Yeah the show, thanks, Irene, appreciate it. Yeah, I thought, yeah,
they they did rewards some players, but they also you know,
think that they can help them and I think winfreaking
can help them. I think Houston can help him out.
I think he's a guy that could be active because
of what he can do on special teams. So all right,
great show, guys, at thirteen calls. That's the best we've
(44:21):
had in a while, really really good stuff. You guys
were awesome in and out. I got to hear from
some people we haven't heard from in a while, so
that's always a good thing. So I know it's tough
to get in you guys. I really appreciate the dedication.
And this is a shout out to all the ones
that called, called and called and didn't get in. Hopefully
you can get in later on. Remember we go every
single day. Next week's going to be a different schedule
(44:43):
obviously with the game, but for the most part, we're
going to go every single day at ten o'clock. Will
do it again tomorrow. So for Chris Beam, I'm Nick Keatman.
See you next time on Cowboys storyline.
Speaker 1 (44:52):
This has been a production of dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
