Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, This is that more and you're listening to the
Dolphin UK podcast on Billip.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Steve take them awad way around.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Hello, Welcome to a heartbreaking edition of the Dolphine UK podcast.
Coming up on the show this week, we review the
last second loss to the Buffalo Bills. We have our
usual pickham and trivia questions and we're going to look
forward to an intriguing matchup against the Rams on Monday
Night Football. Here with me as always, Lee, how are you.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
Doing so much better? Active? After being questionable going into
the podcast felt a little bit poorly, but not because
of the Dolphins over the weekend. So happy to say.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
That excellent, well done, love your commitment. Of course, before
we start going to the Bills game, should we talk
about the trade deadline which came and went Lee, with
no activity coming from the Dolphins, either incoming or outgoings.
What does that mean? Lee? From your perspective?

Speaker 4 (01:30):
Do you think I think it's really telling? I thought
Agent Drew Rosenhaus said the other day that the Dolphins
had been quite active in on the phones in making
inquiries for players. It sounded like that they may have
been more on the buying side than the selling side.

(01:50):
Which means I think they still have hope for the
rest of this season, and that it wasn't based off
the result on Sunday in a negative way, as in,
you drop a game and all of a sudden, it's
a fire sale. I think we saw some teams not
going full firesale, but definitely trying to jetts some some

(02:11):
players knowing that their season may be done, Whereas I think,
especially the last two performances, maybe the Dolphins still think
there is a way to save the season. Is a
bit extreme. Maybe it's not at this point, I don't know,
but definitely a way to get something positive out of
the season.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
The vibes coming out after Sunday's loss was still fairly positive,
wasn't it in terms of they're not giving up on
the season. We as fans shouldn't give up either, and
it would be easy to given the record. But I
think we recognize the fact that there has been a
bit of progress on the field, hasn't there, certainly from
an offensive side of the ball point of view, and

(02:51):
particularly on Sunday, which we'll go into in a moment.
So I think everybody's kind of still looking forward, aren't they,
and hoping that the wins can start to tally up
a little bit.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
Absolutely. I think we mentioned it last week and you
asked me the question, was this a must win game?
And I said, I didn't think it was a must
win game, and it was precisely that reason. I think
if you look at the way the schedule is now
lined up post that game, there is plenty of opportunities
to put a lot of wins on the board here. Still,

(03:22):
it does mean going on on a good run. But
I think we've seen some good performances and we still
have some players expected to return that could really influence
to play on the field as well. So yeah, I
think there's still a lot to play for. I'm certainly
not giving up hope yet.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Absolutely. So let's talk about the Bills game. As we said,
Tyler Bass hit a sixty one yard to cleanse victory
right of the death. I'm kind of going to pose
the same question again, not quite from looking at it
from a must win perspective, because the game is over.
But as you say last week, I ask you if
it was a must win, this week, I'm going to

(04:01):
update the question a little bit and ask you is
the season over?

Speaker 4 (04:05):
I don't think the season over at all. I think
that the back half of the schedule, And anyone who's
listened to us over the years knows how much I
hate preseason record predictions looking at the schedule, because you
just don't know until you get into the year what
a team may be, positively or negatively. You know, we're

(04:26):
people putting the Jets down a Super Bowl contenders, and
at the moment they're sitting on three wins, so we
have to play them twice coming up, so that would
seem like a fairly significant change in what the preseason
thoughts were compared to now. I'd say the same thing
about the Patriots. Again. The Patriots, we've beat them once already.

(04:46):
They don't seem to have got any better. But I
would say our player has improved exponentially in the last
two weeks. So that game. Again, not saying any of
the games the NFL easy. We certainly learned that this season,
but there's definitely going to be an opportunity to win there.
People had high hopes for the Browns. The Browns are
in a little bit of disarroy again, playing with a

(05:08):
backup quarterback who can be streaky to stay the least,
So yeah, he can do a lot of damage, but
he can also that team's not been good enough yet
and he's been part of that as well. So there's
a reason that Jamis is the backup there and not
the starter. So again, there's another one that before the
season looked very hard, now looks very different. The San

(05:30):
Francisco forty nine Ers. Everyone pointed that out as like
that's a huge game because the forty nine ers are
obviously coming off a Super Bowl defeat. They're going to
be one of the favorites in the NFC. They have
really struggled on the road this year. They come to
hard Rock Stadium, we don't go to Santa Clara. So
I think the schedule ahead has changed significantly, and there's

(05:53):
now a lot of places where you don't necessarily say
you can't expect to win, because that's not how the
NFL works, but places where I don't think at the
moment those games are looking quite as scary as you
may have thought heading into the preseason.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
We'll cover off the AFC Conference standing when we do
our State of the Division Frank position lead because I
think it makes for interesting reading in if you look
at the AFC as a whole. But continuing our review
of the Bill's game, what did you think of the
game plan? Tour obviously played really well. It looked as
though they got they were clicking. What did you think

(06:29):
of the game plan overall?

Speaker 4 (06:30):
Yeah? I mean, I having looked at some of the
posts on social media and even a couple of articles
today that came out from the from the local beat writers,
I wonder if maybe I was just going fever crazy
on Sunday when I was starting to get ill, because
I thought the game plan was possibly one of the
best game plans I've seen the Dolphins execute in a

(06:51):
number of seasons. It's easy to look at the seventy
point game and say, hey, look, they obviously did everything right.
They did, but obviously the Broncos that day did very
little right. That's why there was such a lopsided score
this game. They went back and forth with a team
that they have struggled to play against and compete with,
drive for drive, score for score. I mean, it was

(07:14):
decided by the last team that had the ball, and
I truly believe that had they had to kick that
field goal with more time on the clock, there was
every chance the Dolphins would go in and get a
field goal or a touchdown of their own, because that's
the way that second half went. Raheemoster had had the fumble,
but other than that, the Dolphins scored in every possession
in the second half, and the play with the fumble occurred.

(07:36):
The Dolphins were moving down the field while he was
in Bill's territory when that occurred, so there was every
reason to think they would pick up points on that
drive even if it wasn't a touchdown. So, I mean,
I thought it was a really good plan, a steady,
a steady selection of run and pass plays which was
allowing Tour to be incredibly efficient, going twenty five of

(08:01):
twenty eight for two hundred and thirty one yards. So
like the yards are not massive by any metric, But
I mean, what did you He didn't complete three passes,
and we know that one of those is throwaway at
the feet of the running back when the play broke
down and he knew it wasn't there.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
I think two might have even been a throwaway, because
there was one pass that didn't initially look a throwaway
because it was in the direction of Johnny Smith. But
it was my commentary, it was, yeah, it was Trent
Green that said he threw it away.

Speaker 4 (08:32):
Yeah, so, I mean we can credit him with maybe
one incompletion, maybe two at the most. And if you're
being extremer saying exactly what the statute says, there was
actually three incompletions in twenty eight passes. That's you know,
tremendous efficiency. You can play like that every week, You're
going to win a lot of NFL games and probably

(08:53):
put up more points. Because you know, we know the
Bills are a good team. Both running backs were averaging
over five yards to carry. You know, everything seemed to
be firing on all cylinders. I thought the O line
played incredibly well.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
I thought the.

Speaker 4 (09:09):
Gaps were big. They gave up not as much pressure
as you know, the way you would want them to. Thought,
you know, this team is almost especially on offense, is
unrecognizable from the team we saw run out against the
Seahawks or the Titans for instance, even against the Patriots
in a win. I mean, this team is, you know,

(09:32):
streets ahead of where that was.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
Yeah, two is now one and five against the Bills.
But arguably even taking into account that one win, this
was probably his and the offense's best game against the
bills since he's been quarterback, wouldn't you agree?

Speaker 4 (09:51):
Yeah, I think you know. I'm a tour fan, so
you know you can count my bias into it. However
however you fancy. But I think too is just playing
a different level these last two games. He's just looked
more settled and in command. There was no rust coming
back in the Arizona game. He seemed to only improve

(10:12):
in this game. Still more of the you know, the
sleight of hand, handofs to running backs. The parties were
on point. The decision to throw the ball away on
two occasions is the sort of stuff that we need
to praise him for because it was, hey, it's not there,
there's no room to run, throw it away. He went

(10:34):
for it on fourth down with the dive head first,
and I'm sure we all screamed again like we did
in the first week, But he did that because it
was a must get down and it was under It
was the understanding of the situation that led to the
decision making, which means the decision making was absolutely perfect
because he was able to take Himo account everything on

(10:55):
each of those players.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
I'm holding my hand up Lee, because I was one
of these that were shouting slide really loudly like we
did last week when he was running forwards, and my
heart did skip a beat when he dived forwards and
not with his head first, not with his feet, but
thankfully he came out of it unscathed.

Speaker 4 (11:14):
Absolutely, but again it shows his desire to win, something
that I don't think we've ever really questioned. But you know, again,
it was recognizing the situation, I can pick this up
and keep myself safe. That's ticking all the boxes. This
is what we asked for as an improvement when he
got hurt. Was hey, like, don't do that again, and

(11:35):
he hasn't, but was able to keep us in the game.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
I just want to ask you about the waddle touchdown
for a momently in that when I saw it for
the first time, I was convinced it was a no
look past just the angle of the TV camera. I
don't know what your thoughts were, and I haven't really
had a chance to look at any different angles of
the touchdown, but he seemed to be looking one way
and throwing it at the other open receiver.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
I think we've seen that a couple of times in
the last couple of weeks where he's done that where
he's really manipulating especially the linebackers and safeties with his
eyes and not even just his eyes, I think with
the actual placement. If you ever watch like Brian Baldinger
or Kurt Warner break Down Quarterback film and even Travis Wingfield,
you see Travis Wingfeld do it on Dolphin's HQ. He

(12:22):
does it as well. You'll see them refer to how
you can see the stripe on the helmet to let
you know where the player is looking. But I think
it's one of those things where he's able to now
manipulate the head so that the helmet's facing one way,
but he's still looking, do you know what I mean,
so he can still see it out you know, whether
it's in his peripheral vision or you know, he's just

(12:43):
got his eyes looking to one side. He's able to
pull that off, and it's again it's elevating his play
and the offense.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
It's amazing how he can do it, isn't it. Because
if the helmet's pointing one way and you've still got
to look through the visor at your actual receiver, haven't you.
You haven't got that that one hundred and eighty degree
vision that you perhaps might have a view of when
you're not wearing a helmet and put yourself in the
shoes of a defensive back as well, who's thirty twenty
thirty yards away. As the crow flies, they're going to

(13:13):
see the direction of the helmet. They're not necessarily going
to be able to see which way his eyes are pointing,
are they?

Speaker 4 (13:24):
And at the same time, you've got to try and
keep track of Jailing Model what you're doing as a defender.
That's you know, but again that's why they've elevated it
to a different level. And before we move on, it's
a ledge you brought up Jailen Model because part of
this offense returning to the kind of level we thought
it would and I actually think started to show that

(13:46):
it looks like it's ready to exceed what we thought
it was going to be, was the inclusion of more
Tyreek Hill, more Jalen Woddle. You know, didn't see a
lot from Jalen Model. It took a long long time
from get involved in the game. But he's got his touchdown,
got a couple of catches, I know, I know he
ended up with minus yards for the for the player

(14:06):
at the end of the game. But you know, we
just saw more of what you'd expect. Yes, Trent Green
and Kevin Harlan mentioned commentary that teams are finding a
way to slow down those those vast receivers, but the
Dolphins have countered that by now we can run the
ball more more efficiently, and we can run it with

(14:27):
multiple backs more efficiently.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
I think we can see a continuation of Tyreek Kill
and Jane and Wadell getting more involved. Spoiler alert with
regards to the Rams preview later which will come on
to now we have. Unfortunately, we do also appear to
be seeing a swing in fortunes with and ascending offense
and a defense that, on the face of it, appears
to be slightly regressing. Do we need to worry about

(14:53):
the defense lead with the offense having left the field
in the last two games with the lead and not
having an opportunity to then take the field again, do
we need to worry about the defense?

Speaker 4 (15:06):
I don't know if we need to worry. I think
we need to get Zach Seeler back. I think we've
definitely seen his impact. I think we've seen more Again,
how valuable are Clais Campbells? And you saw how many
people were mentioned him in trade talks, like you know
with Kalais Cambell, we've able just shows how well he's
playing this season. So missing Zach Sealer on the defensive

(15:29):
line is obviously a huge miss, not just because of
his play, but I think also because we've spoke about
in the past and we hear hear it in commentary
from you know, people who have played the game, not
not fans like me and you that you know, the
spine of the defense can be so critical to how
it plays. And you know, we know Zach Sealer has

(15:50):
been out and we hope for his return. I know
Mike be Daniel said there is a possibility for Monday night,
and obviously we hope for for his own sake that
he's healthy and ready to But then David Long Junior
didn't get any snaps at linebacker, and in missing Javon Holland.
But that's kind of the spine of the defense right there.
So it's not surprised that that has an impact, especially

(16:11):
when you're going against teams the way they are and
so much has been asking the defense over the last
few weeks. There does seem to be a trend in
they're having more lu like in the first half of
games than the second half, So I don't know if
they're not necessarily adjusting quite as well or what's going on,
or if it's just the games have piled up because

(16:32):
they did a lot of work in that kind of
let's call it four and a half game stretch that
tour was out obviously the game that he got hurt
in and the games he was subsequently on IR So
I wonder if there's a little bit of that that
goes into it as well. But yeah, you know, we'd
like to see them return to form, and I think
the way that's going to happen is with the offense

(16:53):
putting up a performance where they really helped the defense
out by putting up a big no. And I mean,
twenty seven points is not a bad number at all,
but we're talking about the Buffalo Bills and it's one
of the you know, the better teams in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
I think not Coach Mike from on a Callers is
fairly optimistic that Zach Seiler will return next Monday night,
But I did wonder whether we would see him take
the field in a surprising move because Alexa Ingold who
was alec Ingold's wife. She made the trip up to

(17:29):
Buffalo with a lot of the player's wives and they
all had these black jackets with their players with their
name on and number, and she posted on social media
the range of jackets that were going. So you would
assume that the jackets were being worn by the wives
who were traveling, and Zack Seder's wife was in the group.

(17:51):
So I did wonder whether that was a clue that
he may be taking the field, but alas it was
no clue. It was a total red airring.

Speaker 4 (18:01):
Hopefully he is doing better and will be available because
I think he is a huge miss in the defense.
Just because just such a great blur.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
Yeah, just before we move on, we have to talk
about the field goal at the end. When they lined
up for that sixty one yarder, it was slightly outside
his normal field goal range, and having missed an earlier
extra point from obviously a much closer distance, I was
kind of quietly confident that it was going to be

(18:32):
working out in our favor. But obviously it was an
incredible kick to win the game, a franchise record, I
believe from Tyler Bass.

Speaker 4 (18:40):
Yeah, I mean I got im starting to feel like
when kickers missed, that actually the part of the way
to get them out of a little bit of a
slumboll or whatever it is, to actually give them a
really high pressure kick. And you know, I don't think
high pressure means kicking from distance to end the first half.
I don't think it means kicking an extra point or

(19:01):
a field goal. I think it means kicking a game winner.
And it's not really the distance, because we know they
can all kick long distance. That's not really shocking anymore.
I mean, it's obviously a franchise record which is which
is a long kick. But you know, we've seen it
with Jason Sanders where he's missed kicking games only to
step up and kick the game tying field goal, a

(19:22):
game winning field goal, which I believe he's not missed,
he says, crossing fingers and touching wood. But do you
know what I mean. I think it's the pressure that
actually helps them kick those in that situation, especially after
you've missed a couple. So yeah, I mean, it's unfortunate.
It's unfortunate has happened two weeks in a row, isn't it.

(19:43):
Where Like we said earlier, the offensive left the field
with the lead and we've not been able to quite
stop them this time. It felt again like the penalties
really hurt us there on defense and they were avoidable
to be honest.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
Yeah, I shot themselves. I was in the foot, didn't they?
With those two penalties. There was obviously the past the
unnecessary roughness penalty, which we're not here to judge whether
that was or it wasn't a genuine penalty, But and
then there was the Chop Robinson jumping off side. Wasn't
there and I think was on the same drive, So yeah,
you're right they did. They did. Didn't have their cause,

(20:19):
did they really know?

Speaker 4 (20:20):
And the Chop Robinson one's unfortunate because he just got
a sack, I believe, his first one in the NFL.
Obviously hyped and Josh Allen was able to take advantage
of that excitement, and I'm sure that's the sort of
thing that he's never going to forget because it kind
of how quickly the NFL can almost humble you again
after such an exciting moment. But that's on third down

(20:42):
and extended to drive crazy the way it happens.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
But yeah, it was nice to see Chop Robinson get
that sack, wasn't it? And you could see he was
eager to do it again, wasn't he? Unfortunately he jumped,
but you could say Chop was chomping at the bit.

Speaker 4 (20:59):
Chop was trumping at the bit. Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
Okay, enough about the Bills game. We're reached half time
in the show, So Lee, do you want to give
us some trivia? We'll go through last week's question and answer.
Plus we've got a new one to set this week.
Did you want to go through that for us?

Speaker 4 (21:22):
Yep. So the question we posed last week was we
saw the return of number one to action, but how
many players have worn the number one jersey for your
Miami Dolphins. Did you know the answer to this? I
know we had this question that we spoke about this
last week. Did you know the answer to this before
you looked it up and wrote it down?

Speaker 3 (21:43):
No, I admitted last week I probably wouldn't have got
all of them, and I stand by that. Obviously too
is the obvious one. But yeah, there were a couple
of specialists in there, which, to be quite frank, I
wouldn't have remembered, and a couple of the others were
from from history. So yeah, no, where no, I wouldn't

(22:04):
have remembered any.

Speaker 4 (22:05):
Of these, so I would have got two of them, obviously,
Tour and the first on the list, which was Goro,
your premian, Tony Franklin, Matt Turk, and Cody Parker were
your five Miami Dolphins to previously have worn number one.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
Now onto this week's question, Lee, which I'll get you
to read. But have you seen the answer? So you've
got the answer in front of you, But would you
would you have guessed the games?

Speaker 4 (22:31):
I haven't looked or read the question, so do you
want to read the question? I'll give you my answer
before I look down.

Speaker 3 (22:40):
So the question is which is more the Dolphins' largest
margin of victory or their largest margin of defeat? Tricky one.
And to give you a clue, it's not last season's
game against Denver is not the largest margin of victory?

(23:03):
Tricky one. For you and the listeners, you can look
at the answers if you're stuck, Lee, but I might.

Speaker 4 (23:09):
I can't remember the exact number, and I don't I
don't think I want to know the exact number for
the defeat. But I've got a feeling I know the game,
so probably right, So I'm not going to go there.
And no, I don't know the largest margin of victory then,
because that would have been my guest from last season.

Speaker 3 (23:26):
Okay, well we shall reveal the answer next week, he
says he with Lee looking at.

Speaker 4 (23:31):
The Yeah, yeah, okay, I see.

Speaker 3 (23:37):
Okay, weekly pick them then league, very little change at
the bottom of the league. Unfortunately, we had four teams
who failed to register any picks this week, which has
helped your cause, Lee a little bit.

Speaker 4 (23:53):
It absolutely has. I was gonna say, there's a nice
changing position. I hadn't noticed all the Zeros.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
Tom Tommy, JH, Bluey Co All Sport Cards and Brismark
fifty nine, who we've all mentioned on the show before
and failed to register a single pick, which has bumped
you up to twenty fourth place. And you've got eight
out of the twelve thirteen this week I can't remember,
and Rob Ashton got nine to make the bottom share

(24:21):
With the listeners, Lee's who's in the top five this week?
My brother, for instance, he's dying to know, dying to
get a mention on the show. I said, well, you
have to get in the top five. Did he make it? Lee?

Speaker 4 (24:33):
So tied in fourth place with Stokey Dolph Bins, I
really need to write all these down properly. You are
tied in fourth place with ninety two points. Bilto is
in third place with ninety four points. Seventy two equals
Perfection is a second place with ninety nine points, and

(24:54):
the first to hit three digits is Robots seventy nine
one hundred points.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
Looks like there's only a point in it. But now
between him and seventy two equals Perfection, those two have
opened up a little bit of a gap now, haven't they?

Speaker 4 (25:07):
Absolutely five point gap.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
Just want to give a shout out to Stokey Dolphin
eighty six aka Sean, who got in touch to say
that he loves the pod. He also loves being part
of the WhatsApp group and belonging to a UK Dolphins community.
So some really good feedback from Sean there. And hope
he continues to enjoy as and we hope you all continue.

Speaker 4 (25:29):
To enjoy absolutely And just a quick one, did seventy
two equals Perfection get the perfect week? That's thirteen correct
answers that I see on there.

Speaker 3 (25:42):
Keep talking, Lee, I shall just what.

Speaker 4 (25:43):
Was there thirteen games? That is the question, because you
just said there was thirteen games. I wasn't sure how
many games they were, says thirteen points.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
No, he got He got the Texans to beat the Jets,
which of course they didn't, and he had the Seahawks
to beat the Rams, of course they didn't. Close.

Speaker 4 (26:05):
Good score though.

Speaker 3 (26:06):
Yeah, so, Lee, do you want to give us a
state of the division.

Speaker 4 (26:10):
Absolutely so. With the Dolphins defeat to the Bills, that
pushes the Bills to seven and two on the season,
and they head in Week ten to play on the
road in Indianapolis who are four and five, to New
York Jets beat the Houston Texans, as you just mentioned

(26:32):
on Thursday Night Football. And then week ten they had
two Arizona to play the five and four Arizona Cardinals
and the New England Patriots dropped two and seven, losing
seventeen twenty to the Tennessee Titans. And they are also
on the road in Week ten heading to Chicago who
are four and four. So that means the whole divisions

(26:54):
on the road this week. Interesting, it does.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
Yeah, interesting one of those quirks of the schedule.

Speaker 4 (26:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
I did say earlier we should look at the overall
AFC picture now because for the Dolphins. That's probably more
of a focus than looking at trying to clinch the
AFC East and the Dolphins currently ranked twelfth I think
in AFC. Yeah, twelfth in the AFC with a record

(27:26):
of two and six, and interestingly, the team in seventh
and last the last playoff spot at the moment is
the Denver Broncos who are five and four, and just
behind them you have the Colts and the Bengals with
four wins a piece, so the Dolphins aren't too far
off their and the Broncos are played nine games, so

(27:49):
they've got a buy to come. So if the Dolphins
can win their game in hand, there'll only be two
games behind the Broncos with what nine to play. So
it's interesting, isn't it. Yes, retrieving two games in nine
seems easier than winning the AFC East because the Dolphins

(28:11):
are four and a half behind.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
The Bills absolutely don't.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
Have the tiebreaker either, So it does make sense to
look at that wild card, those wild card positions as
that's what the Dolphins are now realistic. You've got to
targetn't they.

Speaker 4 (28:28):
Yeah, there's a lot of football to play, isn't it.
I think there's a lot still to play for, but
I think it does change the urgency with which you
need to start picking up wins now, which hopefully brings
us on nicely to a Monday Night's game. And this
week and many Dolphins play on Monday Night on the
road against the Los Angeles Rams, who were twenty six

(28:52):
twenty victors in overtime versus Seattle Seahawks and currently sits
second in the NFC West. On offense, they rank eighteenth
in total offense, twenty six in rushing offense, and ninth
in passing offense. On defense, they ranked twenty fourth in
overall defense, twenty fourth against the run, and twenty third

(29:15):
against the pass. So silent and the Dolphins now have
some momentum on offense. What can they expect when they
face the Rams defense.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
I've got to admit I haven't really followed the Rams
too closely this season, so I had to do a
little bit of research in terms of how they've been playing.

Speaker 4 (29:37):
Now.

Speaker 3 (29:37):
They've been a bit of a jackal and high team
in terms of how they've played. On the one hand,
they've got a really good pass rush led by rookie
Gerard Jared Verse and Brandon Fisk, who both wreaked havoc
against the Seahawks, and they've got a solid defensive line
where they appear to have done a really stellar job
in in setting a rotation, keeping guys fresh and playing

(30:00):
hard as a result. On the other hand, though, the
secondary has a tendency to give up big plays, with
safety Quentin Lake really struggling of late in deep coverage.
The same goes for cornerback Darius Williams. Kobe Durant just
doesn't seem to play well in coverage, certainly in the
slot and gets beat consistently, and Cam Kurle got burned

(30:23):
badly for a TD in deep coverage last week versus
the Seahawks. So it seems to me as though you
can see where the Jacquelin hyde is and we'll come
onto our path to victory shortly. But that's kind of
the impression I get from the Rams d in that
they've got certainly some strengths up front, but their secondary

(30:43):
does seem to be there for the taking, I think.

Speaker 4 (30:47):
So what about the offense. You mentioned the defense there
with some struggles. They've got some really pretty good players
on the RETMS team, haven't they.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
Yeah, you're right, they've got some real playmakers, of course,
which is led by Matthew Stafford. They've got a really
good running back in Crain Williams, who this year was
a high fantasy pick and he's certainly putting up the numbers.
And they've got a good wide receiver corps as well,
led by Cooper and Pooka. Do you see why did they? Yeah?
I shouldn't be laughing at my own jokes with the

(31:19):
latter two have missed multiple weeks due to injury those
at the same time, which kind of I think probably
accounts for their lowly offensive rankings in terms of yards
per game, because they both have missed a good chunk
of time. And I know that because I've got both
of those wide receivers in various fantasy leagues. They've also

(31:40):
got a good wide receiver three in DeMarcus Robinson who
has been filling in well in the absence. But you
can't literally replace the likes of Cooper, Cup and Pooka
and Akua with with similar players. They just they haven't
got the talent that any other member of that wide
receiver corps hasn't got their talent, so they have been

(32:01):
a big miss. But of course they've now returned from injury,
and of course having I know Pooka and the Kupa
got ejected after a short while against the Seahawks, but
he's returning to full fitness and Cooper Cup is also
back now, so I think they're going to be a
bit of a handful when it comes to playing the
Dolphins on Monday night.

Speaker 4 (32:20):
So that brings us to some Finns facts for this
weekend and side do you want to give us a
couple of the facts for the game. But before you start,
I'm going to ask you do not read out the
second one from the bottom, and I will tell you
why next week.

Speaker 3 (32:36):
Okay, I'll look forward to about that one and I
know which one it is, and this one we've read
out before, so you're right, I'm not going to read it.
So a Dolphins win would improve improve Miami's lead to
thirteen and two in the all time series. A Dolphins
win would be the Dolphins' sixth win against the Rams
in the last seven meetings. It will be Miami's seventh

(32:56):
victory over an NFC opponent and a head coach Mike McDaniel.
A Dolphins win would mark the twenty seventh win in
the last forty two games started by Quarterback two and
Tanga Vlaa, dating back to Week eleven of the twenty
twenty one season. And finally, a Dolphins win would improve
Miami's record to forty five and forty five on Monday

(33:17):
Night football, So their ninetieth game on Monday Night Football,
leag and certainly one of the most popular teams I
think ever on Monday Night football.

Speaker 4 (33:26):
Absolutely, so hopefully we can mark that with a win
and I will share with you the one that I
made Simon skip next week. I'm not saying that superstitious,
but we're going to try something out here.

Speaker 3 (33:36):
So yeah, a piously so understand where you're coming from.

Speaker 4 (33:41):
Amazing. So that brings us on to our paths to victory.

Speaker 3 (33:46):
Did you want to go? Firstly?

Speaker 4 (33:48):
I can give you a pat of victory first, and
I'm going to start off on offense and I'm going
to say just one more of the same. I think
they're progressing. I think they're moving forwards. I think coach
McDaniel has put out a couple of his best game
plans in the last couple of weeks that I've seen

(34:08):
as a coach. They're far more balanced and understand how
hard it must be when you've got Tyreek and Joy
in the world or but almost a silver lining of
the tour injury was this new found ability to run
the ball way more efficiently. I think he's actually helped
the O line. I'm sure Tyreek and Jalen are incredibly
frustrated during those four weeks where they struggled with targets

(34:31):
and receptions, but you know, I think they can start
to really get back on track. And if you want
to get back on track, then facing the twenty third
ranked passing offense, so passing defense from the Los Angeles
Rams maybe a good one to get going against. But
knowing you have the ability to control the game with

(34:52):
the run game, which we kind of saw a little
bit on Sunday with the Bills. You know, it was
less posions, it was long sustained drives, and I'm hoping
you can see more of that come Monday night. I
think it's also a big one that actually before I
go on, I go that you can you give your
first part victory.

Speaker 3 (35:11):
Yeah, I was going to say I'd like to continue
the path the victory and offense if I madely because
very much along the lines what you said, although I
would add and I've highlighted it alluded to it earlier.
I think it's important to protect to her from that
face past rush I mentioned and give him time to
find his receivers downfield when they are passing the ball.

(35:31):
It's almost like fighting against the strength of that Rams
defense whilst at the same time attacking the we point
of that defense with a strength of our own. I
know that Hill and Woddell haven't got the stats to
back it up yet this season, but they are still
good players and this could very much be a breakout
game for the pair of them this season. The Rams

(35:53):
appear to have a lack of talent at the boundary corner,
as I said, and this is a certainly an area
the Dolphins should be looking to exploit.

Speaker 4 (36:01):
Definitely feels like the run game can assist in keeping
that pass Russia play a little bit, so yeah, interesting
to see how that plays out. The second part of
my part of victory, I'm going to stay on offense,
which is weird a little bit and we usually try
and do one of each, but I wanted to just
bring up the match up between coach with Daniel and

(36:21):
Sean McVeigh coming from the same tree and kind of
understanding maybe a little bit more of what each other
liked to do. And I wonder how that is going
to impact the game as a whole, and how they're
going to be able to hopefully deceive, well, hopefully Mike
is going to be able to deceive the rams of
what he wants to do on offense. And again, I

(36:42):
hope that the balance now plays into that and we
continue to see that improvement. But I think be really
interesting to see what the game plan is. Hoping for
Mike to have another super game plan coming this Monday night.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
Yeah, I don't know what his coaching record is against
other coaches that are from that same trees. It'd be
interesting if if somebody could work that out for us.
And I know they beat the Commanders last year, and
and isn't their coach from the same tree. I've got
a vague I can't even remember who the coaches of

(37:16):
the Commanders now is it? Look always at the Packers
with the back of yeah, I was going.

Speaker 4 (37:22):
To Christmas Day? Didn't he was it last year? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (37:26):
And yeah forty nine as well have defeated coach Mike.
So interested to see what his overall record is against
other coaches from.

Speaker 4 (37:36):
He plays them both again this season. Interesting, So, yes,
do you have a part of victory on defense?

Speaker 3 (37:44):
Yeah, I just got one this week. You're right and
knowing saying that a lot of the focus should be
continuing to to improve on offense, but on defense, I
think blitzing Matthew Stafford is going to be key. Make
it make things difficult for their line who have been
suffering with injuries of late, and make things uncomfortable for
the quarterback. I think if you give somebody like Matt

(38:06):
Stafford time to find these wide receivers, particularly now they're
both back in the lineup, it could be a long
day for the defense. So I would suggest get him
under pressure to force early throws and do it often.
I know the Seahawks had a game plan last week
of putting him under a lot of pressure, especially early
in the game, and it largely worked until they came

(38:27):
back late in the game. So I think the way
forward for the Dolphins is to do much the same,
keep him under constant pressure all game and make him
force those early throws.

Speaker 4 (38:39):
Absolutely. So hopefully the Dolphins are able to listen to
our past the victory and execute them free Monday night
football win as I think you're going to be staying
up to watch this time.

Speaker 3 (38:52):
I am indeed yeah this week.

Speaker 4 (38:54):
And I'll be staying up to watch a late finish.
So try and win for us because it's going to
be you know, four o'clock in the morning by sorry,
but yeah, I love I love primetime football.

Speaker 3 (39:06):
So yeah, I just thought I had mentioned that keep
on out on the Dolphins UK social media channels in
the days following the Rams game because I believe they
are going to be releasing some content and focusing on
a fan or two and how they watch that Monday
night football, so should be an interesting watch, So keep

(39:27):
an eye out for that content.

Speaker 4 (39:30):
Absolutely. That being said, so do you want to give
us the weather for Monday night?

Speaker 3 (39:36):
Fairly calm, clear sky's sixty one degrees fahrenheit, so an
ideal night for football. And of course the stadium does
have a roof anyway, doesn't at least, so the weather
shouldn't play, shouldn't have too much of an impact on
the game, but it is even though it's got a roof,
it is open to the elements.

Speaker 4 (39:59):
Yeah, I wonder the wind like goes in there. I
just adding just really more than thinking it's a problem.
Just interesting.

Speaker 3 (40:07):
Yeah. I flew over the stadium, Lee, when I went
to la earlier in the year, and the flight we
took from Vegas flew straight over the stadium heading towards
the airport, and I have to say it was an
incredible looking structure from seeing it from the air as
we descended into the airport, and you even got to
see a little bit of the NFL network on the

(40:29):
NFL offices that are based right next door. And you
know they've got that little mini pitch outside. You could
just get a glimpse of that as you flew over
as well. So fantastic view of the stadium and it
looks amazing. And of course the super Bowl is going
to be there, not after this season, but the following season,
I believe it, or is it? It's certainly coming up anyway

(40:50):
in a year or two.

Speaker 4 (40:52):
Absolutely. So with that being said, Monday night, where are
you going to be able to watch the game here
in the UK?

Speaker 3 (40:59):
I'm going to be what it from my sofa? Lea,
What will you watch it on television? Lee? Not helping
me here, Simon, in all seriousness, No, it's going to
be on you've got a couple of choices, this three
choices this weekly to watch the game. So first of all,

(41:19):
you've got Game Pass, We've got sky Sports, NFL channel
and Main Event channel, but also Channel five are broadcasting
the game, which I've not watched any Channel five coverage
for a while, and it's being hosted by Bridget Condon
and Maurice Jones Drew. So maybe I'll tune into that
this time around, just to see what the coverage is like.

(41:41):
Don't know if they take the commentary from the broad
live broadcast or whether they have their own comms from
another team, but it should be interesting to watch. Nonetheless,
how about you. You're staying up, aren't you, as you
always do for primetime games, as you say.

Speaker 4 (41:58):
Yeah, absolutely, I will be up and I will be
up and watching. I will probably watch it on my
television as well, but yeah, I will definitely watch. The
US feeds are probably I always try and work out
which feed is slightly ahead between my Game Pass and
my sky Sports I must say, so it will be

(42:20):
whichever one I feel is slightly ahead because I just
can't deal with a ten second delay.

Speaker 3 (42:25):
Yeah, I think sky Sports are slightly ahead of Game
pass from what I've seen before, not absolutely one hundred
percent sure, but I think sky Sports are slightly ahead. Okay,
that kind of brings us towards the end of the show.

(42:49):
Last week, I gave you a little story about Stephen Ross.
This week, Lee, you said you'd give us a story
about former owner Wayne Heizenger.

Speaker 4 (42:57):
Absolutely. It's funny that you you were mentioned in how
you know, all of a sudden you're talking to someone
and then they're somehow involved with the team or they
know I was working years ago. They used to work
outside and worked with race dogs. And one day one
of the owners said to me, oh, you're a fan

(43:17):
of Miami Dolphins. I was like yes. He said, well
you might know this guy. He said. I was out
fishing on my boat in Costa Rica, and he said
this boat was very close to us, and they came
over and said, would you like to take part in
a fishing contest? So, thinking nothing of it, said, yep, cool,
I would love to do that because they enjoyed fishing.

(43:38):
And the next day came back and took part in
a fishing contest. And turns out the person who had
asked him and who was running the fishing competition was
Dolphins own Awayne Heisinger, so they spent the day with
Wayne Heisinger knowing nothing about football or the Dolphins or
the Marlins. I believe you're under Marlins at the at
the time as well. But yeah, just funny, isn't it.
How you come across how you come across people in

(44:01):
all walks, just random ways, you.

Speaker 3 (44:05):
Know what a blockbuster of a story.

Speaker 4 (44:09):
That's an amazing one. I like that.

Speaker 3 (44:12):
It just leads me to remember actually that I referenced
the Dolphins UK social media channel and they put out
a clip today funny enough where if you recall, we
went around interviewing some fans, didn't we and asking them
how they got into supporting the Dolphins, and one of
the chaps they showed a clip off today, Josh was
his name. He won one of the Raffle prizes that

(44:34):
Nat Moore gave away. And I didn't realize this at
the time, but Josh's uncle is the dry cleaner for
the Miami Dolphins, so you must wash the kit every week.
I don't know if you remember that.

Speaker 4 (44:46):
I do. I do remember talking to him. It's amazing,
isn't it. Just it's amazing how these things happen.

Speaker 3 (44:54):
So anything else lead before you bring the episode to
a close.

Speaker 4 (44:58):
Nope, that is it from me, other than to say,
don't forget to check out the Dolphins social media channels.
Follow us on all the relevant social media channels. You
will find us. Join the WhatsApp group. If you can't
find a link, I think it's still on our x account,
but just reach out to one of us and we'll
get you included, because it's a great place to be.

Speaker 3 (45:20):
Actually, I just want to say I had to remove
the link because we were getting all sorts of randoms
join the group, which it's there's a risk of obviously spamming,
so the link isn't public. But if you want to,
if you want to join, just drop us a line.
That's fine.

Speaker 4 (45:35):
Does it. Reach out and join the community. It's a
great place to be. I believe there's a watch party
coming up as well. I think there's some details about
that being posted on social media at the moment. I
think at the Hippodrome for the Raiders game to keep
an eye out for that. Obviously, follow dolphins social media
accounts for all of their content, Travis for the Drive

(45:56):
Time podcast and Dolphin's HQ Steph and o J at
the fish tank and until next week. Thanks for listening.
Go fins, fins up, go fens. I'm still not gonna
get that right, m
