Speaker 1 (00:02):
Draft.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
It's now officially open.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
This is draft season now. I mean, like the guys,
this is really draft season. We're in the middle of
the draft. It's pretty good. It's brought to you by Moody's,
a proud partner of the New York Giants. Decode Rests,
Unlock opportunity, learn more at moodies dot com. And that's
what NFL teams tried to do on Thursday night, Unlock
opportunity and take advantage of those situations. And joining me
has always to talk about it is our draft expert,

(00:29):
Tony Pauline from sports Kita. Tony, we have a first
round in the books. We thought there would be a
lot of surprises in a draft with a bunch of uncertainty.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
I think there was. We did have three trades, I
believe right.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
We had two at the top and then two in
one at the top, two in the twenties. We'll talk
about that a whole lot more. What was your takeaway
walking away from Round one of the twenty twenty five
NFL Draft.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Well, I thought the first half of the draft had
good pace. I mean the first half of the draft
of an hour and a half. The second half of
the draft kind of dragged a little bit. I think
teams in that bottom half of round one, especially in
the twenties, worked the clock because they were talking about
potentially trading down. I thought three trades was all we
were gonna have. I had wrote about that. Obviously, there
was a shocker for trade at the top, which we

(01:14):
thought not too many. I mean, the guys that are
left on the board, which we will get to at
the end when we review the first round, really aren't
shockers because we knew that there was a chance, for
reasons that we will get into, that they could still
be on the outside looking in when the first round
was over.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Absolutely all right, let's get into it. Tony first pick overall,
cam Ward to the Tennessee Titans. We talked about this
a lot, best quarterback on the board. The Titans were
locked into him, and just hard when you don't have
a quarterback to pass any guy with as much talent
as cam Ward.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
I think the only surprising thing, if there was one,
was Tennessee had said that they were going to market.
They were going to shop that first pick. Evidently there
were reports that they received multiple offers, but they were
stuck on ward and go back to the Shrine Bowl.
We said reported that the Ward was the number one quarterback.
They need a quarterback. This is a new regime that
has time, and that's the way they went.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
All right, pick number two, This is where the trade happened.
The Browns were gonna have to be blown away.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Tony.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
I think the trade out of Travis Hunter, and give
the Jaguars credit. They came with the fire man. They
traded next year's one this year's two, and then they
swapped a couple fourth and sixth round picks in there
as well. But to move up three spots for a
non quarterback to get a two and a one the
following year. Look, I understand trading out of Travis Hunter

(02:35):
is a tough spot. He's gonna be a great player.
But given the brown situation where they really don't have
a quarterback, they have all this extra draft capital this
year and next year now to build up their roster
and next year to maybe find the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Heck, maybe they'll pick one of thirty three top of
the second round. Who knows.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
I thought the Browns did as well as they possibly
could have trading out of that pick.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Travis Hunter better be a great player because this is
the type of move that gets general managers and coaches
fired for ever if they can't get him to produce.
I'm surprised, but I'm not surprised. I'm not surprised because,
you know, if you go back to our shows, I
had said when it was talked about Ashton Genty going
to Jacksonville five, their strategy was they were gonna look

(03:15):
to draft as many skilled players as possible to surround
Lawrence Trevor Lawrence with talent to get him to the
position where they thought he should be when he was
drafted all those years ago, we thought he was gonna
be gonna be a franchise quarterback. I am surprised at
the price. I mean, it is a very hefty price.
They better play well in twenty twenty five, because if

(03:38):
it's a Carolina Bryce Young type of situation and they
don't play well and Cleveland is drafting or selecting at
the top of the twenty twenty six draft with the
Jaguars pick, there's gonna be a lot of you know,
looking over their shoulders and should have would have?

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Coold is all right, We'll get to what Cleveland does
at five in a second. The Giants at three, Tony
picked Abdul Carter. The Chalk continued, he was the other
elite position player in this draft besides Ashton Genty, and
the Giant selected him a third overall.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Yeah, and they didn't take too much time before they
got the card up, so obviously everybody knew this pick.
It was talk maybe they could trade down. I think
that they were settled on Abdul Carter. He's the best
player in the draft, or at least the top player
on my board, and he's an impact defensive player. And
then they also it was reported that they're gonna give
Kevon Thibodeau that fifth year, which I thought was interesting

(04:29):
after drafting, after selecting Abdil Carter.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Can't have enough pass rushers, and Joe Shane said at
the press conference after they made the pick that that
was an easy selection for them at number three and
not really a lot of debate about what they were
gonna do with that pick.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Patriots had four more chalk well Campbell.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
They need a left tackle, Tony, they picked the guy
they thought that would be the best left tackle.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
In the draft.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Absolutely, absolutely, I mean they need a left tackle. Was
he gonna be Arman Membo, Armon Membo's a bit of
a project at left tackle. You got Will Campbell. He's
just gonna play hard. He's gotta play every snap like
he did in the second half of the year, rather
than be a little bit soft as he did in
the first half of twenty twenty four. But they fill
in me with a potentially very good player, all right.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
And then the Browns selected number five, Tony, and I thought,
maybe another trade down. You know, the Bears were apparently
hot for Ashton Genty, and if you're gonna move down
to five and cluck Capitol, why not? You know, is
the player you're getting at five and ten gonna be
that much different?

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Why not move down again? But obviously nothing came to truition.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Either the Bears or nobody else was willing to go
up to five, or the Browns who are wanting to
stick and pick, and they got Mason Grant, the defensive
tackle out of Michigan. For me, there was an expex
position player on this board besides Genty, a really good player.
Maybe he doesn't vow you physically and athletically, but his
tape was as as solid as against And the fact is.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
We knew at some point in the draft within the
first day or two that the Browns were going to
look to add another pass rusher. We thought ed rusher,
but what they did was they added a pass rusher
on the inside. So you know what that does is
when Miles Garrett and is double teams on the outside,
that could free things up for Mason Garrett, who is
a playmaker. Like you said, doesn't have the great upside,

(06:08):
but he's quick, he's explosive, he's very intense. He penetrates
the line of scrimmage and disrupts the action. So they
got pass rush, but they got on the interior of
the defensive line.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
And Giants Fanzeway, we're going to talk about the second
pick and more on what they did overall. At the end, Tim,
we want to get through all the picks first, and
we do have a separate video over on our other
feed YouTube channel about full half hour reacting to that
abdul quarter pick.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
If you're a Giants fangle, check that out. Raiders at six.
There are three truths in life.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
Tony death, taxes, and Pete Carroll drafted running backs and
he got the best one in this year's draft.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Actions Heady at number six.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
I mean they had to be happy that. They probably
were sitting in their war room watching what was going
on in front of him. You know, what, was Cleveland
going to make that pick? When Cleveland made that pick,
I'm sure they were jumping up and down. This was
a guy that we had known all along they wanted.
We thought he may not be there because of Jacksonville. Well,
I mean it worked out perfectly for them, as well

(07:03):
as the next team, the New York Jets.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Yeah, and they select armand Membo, a bookend offensive tackle
for oldlu fashioning.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
Absolutely, and this was the guy that I've known that
they wanted for the past month. I mean, they need
a right tackle. He's a big, explosive, athletic guy. I
think he's gonna be a Day one starter. I've said
multiple times I believe armand Membo will be the best
offensive lineman to come out of this draft. May need
a little bit of time because this young guy just
turned twenty one last month, but the upside is incredible

(07:31):
and the tape is really good too. He's not just
an athletic guy who looks good in shorts and a
T shirt. Watched the film from twenty twenty three to
twenty twenty four. He was a masher, he was dominant,
and he showed progress in his game.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Absolutely, then we're gonna go to pick number six year
seven rather no, right eight.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Let me take that back.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
It's getting late, people, it's midnight. He's with John and
Iron tape of this, so you're late.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
I apologize, folks, the Krolin of Panthers.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
I think we kind of thought they were gonna go
defense here Tony because they need defense so badly. But honestly,
Tech mcmill ted, I'm sorry he doesn't like Ted tedor
Rolla McMillan. T mac was the number sixth player on
my board, and the Panthers got him at eight.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
The wide receiver. I mean, I don't think.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
I think if you're looking for value, I think they
got pretty good value there with the eighth pick.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Yeah, I mean, if you're bought into the outside narrative,
he was falling it. But all you know, you asked
me the other night, who was my favorite player in
the draft, I said, I said, Teed McMillan. I mean
he is a big game, controlling receiver. Good for the
Carolina Panthers, blocking out the noise and going with this guy.
He was definitely a top ten talent, always the number
one receiver on my board. Maybe not the fastest guy,

(08:40):
but a natural pass catcher with a long frame who's
also very smart. Again a day one starter. Ryce Young
looks like that he's gonna be their quarterback the way
he rebounded late last year. You want to make bright
Young even better. You want to help him take that
next step. Get him a receiver like Teed mcmiller, the the.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
Big players in the trail, just Tony Ryan Ramschack retired
this offseason. Enter Kelvin Banks. You will slide right in
along with They drafted, uh keep.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
Penning from Northern Iowa a couple of years and.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Penning, but last year they did they drafted not not
Fallow Toney from Washington. They drafted Fuaga did you have to?
So they'll join him on the offensive line down there
in New Orleans. As they spend a lot of cabit
on that offensive line. Man, they just keep spending picks
on it, but they're trying to solidify it.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
And a nice player. They're Kelvin Banks of the Saints
at nine.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Nice player. But I mean, like you said, I mean,
it's it's NonStop offensive lineman, not only in the first round,
but in the second round, and even at times when
you think they're not going to take offensive lineman, they
go with a guy like Caesar Wi So I mean,
I don't know what to say. I like Kelvin Banks. Yeah,
it makes a lot of sense, but at some point

(09:50):
in time, you got to stop the bleeding. You gotta
go with what you have, because what happens is you're
so focused early in the draft on a one unit,
a one area, holes are created in other areas of
the team that really need to be filled.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Absolutely. And then we talked about you know, ty Warren.
There's a lot of heat on his name, Tony, but
wasn't always definitely gonna be the first tight end taken.
And the Bear has proved that out, picking Colston Loveland
that of Michigan instead.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
You know, I said on this art in this show
multiple times, I've written about it multiple times, even on
my board. It was reflective Colston Loveland was the number
one tight end in this draft, and I said till
I was blue in the face. Colston Lovelin is more
Brock Bowers than Tyler. Warren is Tyler.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Now he isn't full block Bowers Let's be clear.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
He's not. But he's more Rock Bowers that exactly. He's
more Sam Laporter than Tyler Warren in a sense that
he's more of a downfield pass catcher to the tight
end position. He will stretch the defense, he can go
over the middle, make the difficult reception. Not surprised by
this pick at all. I did think that Tyler Warren
was going to be selected before Colston Loveland, even though

(10:58):
I was hearing otherwise and reported otherwise. But still well,
lovelym was always the number one tight end on my board.
I had reported it. Good for the Bears for again
blocking out the noise and going with the best player
at the position.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Niner's a number eleven's like Michael Williams edge player out
of Georgia Tony. We know they needed help up front
on the defensive line. This could have been a Walter
Nolan landing spot, but Michael Williams still on the board.
Really safe player, big, long armed, young, really talented.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
And when Mikeel Williams fell to the spot, I think
it was easy for him because Michael Williams was rated
much higher than Walter Nolan. You put him on the
other side of Boza. You know, they still have to
fill some holes on the interior that defensive line. But
Williams is a guy that's got great upside. He's a
great fit for that system, and just as he gets
bigger and physically matures, he'll just improve his game.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
All right, Let's jump over to the Dallas Cowboys at
pick number twelve. I get the feeling if Ted Rowln
mcnoll was on the board, Tony, he might have been
the pick here for them, but he was not. So
instead of going to Matthew Golden, Dallas does what so
Dallas usually does pretty well is draft offensive lineman early.
And they's like Tyler Booker, the guard out of Alabama
who I know checks all the boxes from a personality perspective,

(12:09):
a leadership perspective, Tony, And if Brian Schoenheimer runs to
run a power running system, he's the perfect guard to
run that.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
I mean. Still a bit of a strange pick in
a sense that it was early. I don't think that
anyone had Booker going this early in the draft. I
like the player, I just don't like him being selected
with the twelve pick. You know, this is a definitely
Dallas Cowboy type of offensive lineman. We'll see what happens
moving forward. If it works out for them, great, If

(12:37):
it doesn't, there's going to be a lot of looking
back and saying, why did you take this guy so
early in the draft?

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Tay though, if you want to run up middle, Tony
Tyler Smith, Tyler Booker and Cooper Bebee running up next
to each other, those are three pretty good run blockers
if you want to.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
Run the ball up the middle.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
So we'll see how the Cowboys out run their offense
with those three monsters in the middle.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
All right, Then the Dolphins at thirteen.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Speaking of monsters in the middle, Grant the big defensive
tackle out of Michigan.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
I think when Kelvin Banks was off the board early,
they had rearranged their draft board or they had to
go in a different direction, especially with Will Johnson the
injury to Will Johnson. Listen, I like Kenneth Grant. He
was my number two defensive tackle on my board. He's
got tremendous upside, so we've said all along. When you
compare him to his teammate Mason Graham, he's not as

(13:23):
polished as Mason Graham, but he could be the better
player two or three years down the road.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Yeah, I think he'll fit in on that Dolphins defense. Rember.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
They they lost Christian Wilkins a couple of years ago
and Fresy to the Raiders, So a good player up
front for them. Then the Colts we always talked about
in the pick of a tight end, Tony, this is
one of those things that just a matter of which
one was going to be left, if either of them
were going to be left.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
And it turns out to be Tyler Warren and he's
going to the Colts.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
And they didn't have to trade up to get him.
There was no talk yesterday that they could make a
move up to get him. They didn't. They sat there.
They get Tyler Warren. I think he's going to be
a day one starter, and he fits a need.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
Absolutely, a great all right, and then the Falcons need
a pass rush and Jalen Walker still sitting there, Tony,
he was the guy that fell. This was probably a
pretty easy one for them with Jalen Walker still on
the board.

Speaker 3 (14:07):
Yeah. Absolutely, Now why did Jalen Walker fall? Well, Number one,
he's six six foot one forty five pounds, doesn't have
great growth potential. I was hurt I heard that there
were concerns about his body type, the way he's built
that bodes well with some team or that that basically
that's a concern for some teams, which is why Walker dropped.

(14:27):
But this was a this could be a great pickup
for the Falcons. This was great value as far as
I'm concerned, just more than an up the field guy.
I'm sure they're going to use him all over the place.
Did they get another pass rusher later on, which we'll
talk about the other athletic guy. So they have now
had the freedom to use Walker up the field or
as a traditional linebacker off the ball.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
A Georgia guy stays in Georgia.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
And when you kind of knew this was going to
be the defensive line pass rush kind of cycle. Here
you are three teams in a row that needed him,
and the Cardinals wanted defensive lineup. They go Walter Noan,
a player we mentioned earlier, a good three tech upfield
pass rusher.

Speaker 3 (15:02):
Great fit for their system lineup. He's basically a three
man line but they played one gap type of scheme
up front. He's explosive, he's a playmaker, he's a penetrator.
I thought he may go a little bit earlier than this,
so it's also good value, and he's got a terrific
amount of.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
Upside with the questions around Trey Hendrickson and just frankly
a pass rush of the Bengals that outside of Trey
Hendrickson wasn't very good. Tony, they go Shamar Stewart, the
Boomer Bust, super athletic chisel body pass rusher out of Texas,
A and M that just has trouble getting sacks.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
A lot of risk with this pick. I mean this
is like you said, Boomer Bust. If he's coached correctly
and he learns to bend the edge and do the
little things, well, you know, you could have a double
digit sack guy on your hand. Otherwise you may end
up with your frind in Goolston.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
Seattle Seahawks pick number eighteen. You had them locked into
grays able, Tony. You knocked this one out of the.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
Park, and they tried to trade down, which I knew
they were going to try and trade down to get great.
They weren't able to do it, so they just stood there.
They took Xamble, multi purpose versatile offensive lineman is going
to start off at guard. People think he'll eventually move
the center. I mean, hey, if one of your tackles
goes down with injury, he can even kick out the tackle.

(16:16):
I mean a real good player.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
All right, let's go to the next selection here the
ten day Buccaneers that gay Buka, the compliment Chris Godwin
and Mike Evans, just adding more to the riches of
pass catchers for Baker. Mayfield thought it.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
Was going to be a defensive player safety Malachi Starks.
But you've got to prepare for the future moving forward,
because Evans especially is getting a little bit long and
the tooth there. This may be his last year. Buka
can learn behind both of those guys and then hopefully
eventually become a dominant number one and number two receiver.
I thought it was a good pick, very polished, a

(16:52):
pass catcher who should produce early as a rookie.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Moody is a proud partner of the New York Giants,
uniting the brightest minds that turn today's risk into tomorrow's
oppera tune he's learned more at moodies dot com. Draft Seasons,
of course, is presented to you by Moody's All right, Tony,
let's jump next over to the Denver Broncos at twenty.
I think we all thought that Sean Payton might be
looking for a weapon on offense here, but they decided
to add to a strength and they go with cornerback

(17:17):
Jade Baron or Jaday Baden.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
Baron pardoned me out of the.

Speaker 1 (17:21):
University of Texas to help Patrick stan out there in
the defensive backfield.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
You thought, maybe you're Marian Hampton. You thought maybe Matthew
Golden to add some speed at the receiver position. They
go with Baron, who I think will be a Day
one nickel, which is a position he really played most
at Texas. You line him up in the slot. He's
a talented cornerback. She just got to keep his focus
on the field and again, should be a Day one starters.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
I think he looked pretty good outside in this final year,
That'll be honest with you. But we'll wait and to
see how decided how they decide to use him, and
then the Steelers just picking Steeler type players. Both of
us love Derek Harmon. He was my number two d
defensive tackle on the class after Mason Graham. I know
he had some Nixon bruises. Tony you reported this on
our show on Fan on Wednesday night. But he does
fall to twenty one with the Steelers. But I think

(18:09):
they were very happy to get someone to play next
to Keanu Benton and Cam Hayward and eventually hopefully replace
Hayward once he retires.

Speaker 3 (18:16):
They gotta think of this position for the future. I mean,
I guess the big story here is they passed on
Shador Sanders. The reports were as of yesterday there were
fifty to fifty. Which way were they going to go
a defensive lineman or Sanders. I understand the you know,
I understand Harmon because he's got great upside. He's going
to produce quickly as a rookie. You know, you don't
have to sit him on the bench as you would

(18:37):
with the Shador Sanders, and he fills in need as
you pointed out.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Absolutely Los Angeles Chargers Tony and they took the whole
clock for this one. But I look to our buddy
Paul Detino, I said, Paul, they're picking on Mariyan Hampton
like they signed Naji Harris to a one year doing
the offseason. Jim Harborough wants to run the football and
Amaron Hampton is just like an Adonis deal. Academy's built
the play running back, and he is gonna think, I think,

(19:04):
do really well in that Chargers offense as their number
one bellcout running back.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
You know, I know, I knew they liked him. I reported,
if we can half go, they liked him. I just
didn't know he was going to be available to him
because I thought that the Denver Broncos would take him
two selections earlier. You mentioned Najay Harris on that one
year deal. I mean, this is definitely a Jim Harball
type of running back. I thought maybe Matthew Golden. I
think what also happened is when all the defensive tackles

(19:31):
were off the ball, this is that also pushed them
towards O Marion Hampton.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
And then the Packers finally pick a first one wide receiver,
tony finally, and they do it with the draft.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
Taking places in Green Bay. They select Matthew Golden wide
receiver out of Texas.

Speaker 3 (19:46):
And the way they announced him, you know, the first
wide receiver selected since two thousand and two, because I
mean Green Bay Packer fans have been going nuts screaming
for receiver, especially when Aaron Rodgers is the quarterback, there
and they were taking second running backs and ybrid hbacks,
and I mean, he's the speed guy. This is when
I talk to people about the Packers taking Abuca. They said, no,

(20:07):
they want more of a speed guy. I'm sure the
Packers were pretty shocked, if that's stunned, that Matthew Golden
was still available to them when they were called to
the clock.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
All right, and then we go to the Vikings at
twenty four.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
I think both of us thought, given the amount of
losses they've taken on the defensive side of the ball
and how they've kind of had the patch things together,
they would pick a defensive player here Tony. But I
know the Vikings want to run the ball better, so
they picked Donovan Booker or the guard slash tackle, probably
guard out of Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
The bolster that offensive line.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
Well, you thought maybe cornerback, and Maxwell Harriston was still available,
and well Johnson was still available, so you thought that
that may be the way that we're going to go.
You know. Obviously with Donovan Jackson played tackle last year
or at least the second half of last year at
Ohio State, Guarders's natural position, did a great job coming
back for another year. At Ohio State after disappointing two

(20:58):
thousand and three twenty twenty three. You know, he's a
strong guy who can also play in his own scheme.
So I think he's gonna really fit the that Ski
that system really well if they run in Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
All right, let's go to Then the New York Giants
traded up with the Texans for twenty five, sending pick
thirty four, ninety nine and next year's three for pick
number twenty five, and they select quarterback Jackson Dart out
of Ole Miss Tony.

Speaker 2 (21:25):
Your thoughts, I mean.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
I understand it. They didn't give away a whole lot
to move up and get Jackson Dart. He's not gonna
have to start right away. Most of the focus is
gonna be on Abdul Carter, so they can be patient
with him. You know, they can learn. They still have
that selection early in round three, so thankfully, hopefully there
they'll come away with another player they need, maybe a

(21:48):
defensive tackle. Listen, taking moving back up into the first
round and getting a quarterback and giving away what amounts
to a third round pick is much better than taking
a quarterback with the third pick as people had projected,
or making a bigger move up. I thought it was
a good move for a quarterback that's got upside, but

(22:08):
it's going to need time. And now he's gonna have
time to develop.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
And I think as a Giant fan, for Giant fans
out there, they have to be pretty happy walking away
with a guy that can be an elite pass rusher
and then a guy that, if he develops, has the
potential to be a future starting quarterback for your team.

Speaker 3 (22:25):
And then didn't give away all that much to move
up and get him. I mean it was a third
round pick. It was a late third round pick, and
what else was it?

Speaker 2 (22:33):
And a third round next year?

Speaker 3 (22:34):
Yeah, So I mean that's you know, and if you
get a starting quarterback, it's world worth.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
It, absolutely all right, let's go to the next election, Tony.
The Atlanta Falcons to twenty six.

Speaker 3 (22:46):
Well, James Pearce was the guy who I had them
mock taking at fifteen. They trade, They made a big
trade back into the bottom round of the bottom part of.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
Round one, and that cost them their first round pick
next year. By the way, that was a much bigger
price than what the Giants at pay them move up.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
And so you know, with Walker and with Pierce. They
hope to have their pass rushing duo of the future.
They better have it for the price that they paid.
But the fact is this. You know, Pierce, like Jalen Walker,
is an excellent athlete, except he's three inches taller, He's
ten pounds heavier, He's got more growth potential. He isn't.

(23:23):
He plays like a tremendous athlete. He ran four four
seventh the combine. He plays that fans. He's just got
to get a little bit stronger. You can do a
lot of different things with him. They gave away a lot.
We'll see how it works out.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
I think Walker is probably a little bit bendier than
Pierce's tony, right. I think Pierce is probably quicker in
a straight line maybe, but certainly a really good speed rusher.
James Pierce Junior, All right, pick number twenty seven to
Baltimore Ravens. They just pick good football players. They pick
Malache Starks to go with Kyle Hamilton at safety.

Speaker 3 (23:52):
I don't know that they thought he was going to
be there, but like you said that, it's going to
be a dynamic duo with Kyle Hamilton. I mean, Starks
will see how they line him up. Star is more
of a true center fielder. He goes sideline to sideline.
I think he's got better arrange than Hamilton, but you
never know, they may use him closer to the line
of scrimmage.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
I'm with you.

Speaker 1 (24:09):
I think Starks is best playing in that center fairly
role playing downhill, so I think that's all I'd use
him too, and let Hamilton use his size in those
smaller areas. Detroit Lions a twenty eight piggy, very Detroit
Lions type of player like Dan Campbell probably was just
salivating all over himself watching Tyler Williams play football. Just
a massive man, strong, controls the line of scrimmage, great
against the run, very.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
Athletic as well. You know, if you watch this show
through the college football playoffs, I said continually that I
thought Williams helped himself more than any other player in
the college football playoffs. Jack Sawyer got a lot of
the headlines. Jack Sawyer made some impact plays, but if
you watch down after down, it was TYLERK. Williams that
was getting the double teams. It was Tyleek Williams who

(24:49):
was penetrating the line of scrimmage and forcing the quarterback
to leave the pocket and move his feet or forcing
the running backs to change direction or alter the angles
of his runs. He's massive, but he's also relatively the
Other thing about Williams is he's shown consistent improvement the
past two years, which I thought, which I think is major.

Speaker 1 (25:06):
All right, let's go to the next selection, and that
is the Commanders. Well, I'm not surprised to an offensive
lineman told me. But they just did trade for left
tackle Liarmy Tunsel. Now they select left tackle Josh Connery.
I'm curious to see where he winds up on that
offensive line.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Well, I mean, i've heard right tackle, which I don't
think he's a right tackle. I think he's more of
a stone blocking type guard. Like you said, it'll be
interesting to see where he lines up. But you know,
the fact of the matter is the class of the
NFC East is the Philadelphia Eagles, and they do nothing
but draft offensive lineman. You've got Jayden Daniels there. He's

(25:44):
going to be a steed. Looks like he's going to
be the franchise for years to come. You better protect him.
So I thought maybe receiver. I thought maybe a safety.
They get another blocker who can protect their few their
franchise quarterback understand the move completely. And I mean, I
like Connery. I don't know that he's going to be
a left tackle, wait and see where they line him up,

(26:07):
but he's an outstanding blocker and this was good value
where he was on my board.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
Great value. I totally agree.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
Maxwell harristanding cornerback out of Kentucky, the speedster to the
Buffalo Bills who desperately didn't need a cornerback.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
A Buffalo Bill type of cornerback. He's feisty, he's aggressive,
he quickly rebounds from mistakes. He showed a developing game.
There were some injury concerns, which is why he was
pushed down to the thirtieth selection, but he's a great
fit for that scheme. He's a confident guy, unlike Carrie
lomb who they took in the first round, where they

(26:42):
basically who they traded in free agency to the Dallas Cowboys.
Good selection.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
And then the Eagles take Risks Tony.

Speaker 1 (26:48):
They find talented players that might have some flags on
him red, yellow, red, white and blue, whatever type of
flag you might be talking about, and they pick him anyway.
Johan Campbell, who in a lot of people's mind was
a git. You know, top fifteen player in this class
was sitting there at thirty two, and Howie Roseman grabs
him for the Eagles.

Speaker 3 (27:05):
Well, he moved up a spot, a move he flip
flop with the Kansas City Chiefs. Move up, and there
were reports that he was trying to move up into
the twenties to get you hot Campbell. But the fact
is this. You know, Campbell may have his rookie season
interrupted by the shoulder injury. He may need another procedure,
and he may be out for a bit of time,
but I don't know if the Eagles need him to

(27:26):
play next year. So you gave away a late round pick.
You get a guy who two or three years down
the road, once he's healthy, can be a dominant off
ball linebacker. You know this is this just fits what
Harry Roseman does and does so well year after year,
or I should say draft after draft, give away late
round picks. There's not enough room on your roster for

(27:47):
those guys in the fifth, sixth, and seventh round to
make the roster. Trade it away, move up and get
a guy like Johid Campbell, who you know what if
he's not going to be ready, or it's not going
to be full speed in twenty twenty five. You may
not need him wait till twenty twenty six, and you've
got that fifty year option on them.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
Yeah, and they'll have a bunch of compicks next year
for the guys they lost in for ages, like Milton
Williams and Josh sweating those guys, So there are plenty
of picks next year.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
So sacrificing a late round pick is not a big deal.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
And like you said, Tony, the don't need guys to
play now, So pick a guy if you have to
deal with injury for a while to get a star
later on. I think it makes sense to do that.
All right, Let's take a look at the guys that
are left, Tony, the guys on my board that are
ranked high, not many of them.

Speaker 3 (28:26):
You're sure changed in the Kansas City Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (28:28):
Chief I missed the Chiefs. I'm sorry. Yeah, go with
the Chiefs, Tony, I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
Chiefs took Josh Simmons, who I actually had them in
my earlier Monck dress all the way through taking Josh Simmons,
and I moved away from the the last Monck draft
because of the injury concerns with Josh Simmons. But listen,
as we saw in the Super Bowl when the Eagles
were pounding the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes, they
needed offensive lineman. That's the way they went. As we

(28:55):
talked about with Josh Simmons, if he had not gotten hurt,
and he had remained healthy, you know, throughout the season
and continue to improve, there was a good chance he
was gonna be the first left tackle taken. The Chiefs
get him with the last pick of the first round. Again,
he may not be ready to play for a while
because it was a torn patello injury, but they made it.

(29:16):
They signed a left tackle on free agency, so you
can just ease Josh Simmons in excellent pick. I mean,
the Chiefs have selected some offensive lineman the past couple
of years in the second third round that haven't worked out.
I'm sure they're hoping that Simmons finally breaks that jinks
all right, and.

Speaker 1 (29:34):
Now that look a good The players that are left, Tony,
the only guy with a first a true first round
grade left on my board is Mike Green, the edge rusher,
and I know there's some alf the field stuff with
him that would have knocked him down. I did not
put that into consideration because I don't know the facts
of the case when I went through it. Other guys
that have borderline first round grades that are still around
there Will Johnson, Donovan Azeraku, Nick s Gordon, and Nick Emminwari.

(29:55):
So those are the only guys that I think really
stick it out to me as the best players left available.

Speaker 3 (30:00):
I agree with you about him, an I agree with
you about Scorton obviously. Shador Sanders, you know, you may
not have a first round graded him, but he's still
a quarterback. And you know, I mean literally, for a month,
the airwaves have talked about nothing other than where should
Door Sanders going to go? Is he going to be
a top five pick? Well, he wasn't a top thirty
two pick, so that conversation will continue on tomorrow. Will

(30:23):
Johnson he fell because of because of the injuries he
has in the issue, which is the problem. I was
surprised he was there at the draft tonight, and again
he really didn't play well the first seven games this
year when he was on the field. If you go
back to the twenty twenty three film, he looks like
a top ten pick. It's an iffy situation. Sometimes it's

(30:44):
tough when a quarterback's coming off a bad year goes
into the NFL. So it's going to be an uphill
climb for Will Johnson, who now is going to be
a Day two pick.

Speaker 1 (30:53):
All right, how about the teams now picking at the
top of the second round, Tony. Whenever we, you know,
go through this and you teams have a chance to
sleep on who's left on their board, they wake up
in the morning, they often kind of get obsessed with
certain players and teams are are going to look to
move up. And now the team's stating there in the
top round two, you're the Cleveland Browns at thirty three,

(31:14):
the Houston Texans have the Giant selection.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
At thirty four.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
You of the Tennessee Titans at thirty five, then the
Browns again at thirty six.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
So who do you think some of the guys are
those teams could.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
Target based on their needs and maybe other teams that
might be looking to trade up into one of those spots.

Speaker 3 (31:32):
Well, the Browns still need a quarterback. So the question
is where does Tyler Shuck go? Where does Jalen Milroe go? Actually,
obviously I'm sorry Ansher dor Stander. There you go. We're
just talking Ansha dor Standers. So there you know, there's
a dearth of I'm not at diarth. There's a bunch
of quarterbacks still available to the top round two, as
we thought there would be, because we only thought there

(31:54):
was gonna be two quarterbacks selecting in the first round.
There's some questions whether the second one was gonna be
a dart Or Dors Sanders. Uh, Tennessee, I think you've
got you gotta look at some you gotta look at
pass rushers. New England you got pass rushers. I think
that's whereas a rock roll's going to go. The Bears,
there's no real offensive tackle left there for them. They

(32:16):
could go pass rusher because they went uh, they went
tight in in the first round. Uh. The Browns with
their second pick, wouldn't be surprised if they look offensive line,
because they've had a lot of problems with that unit,
and you know you're gonna have to have you got
to do something to keep Joe Flacco standing up right

(32:38):
next season.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
Absolutely, All right, Tony, give me who are your favorite
picks of the day, and then we'll wrap things up.

Speaker 3 (32:45):
I gotta go with the New York Jets and know
or my Membo. He's one of my favorite players. I
think it's gonna be the best offensive lineman to come
out of this draft, and he feels a need. I
love what Carolina Panthers did with Ted McMillan, only because
I thought he was one of the most underrated and
undervalue players going into the draft. Give Seattle Seahawks credit

(33:05):
for the Gray's Abel. That's the guy they wanted, that's
the guy they came away with. And let's see later
on bottom half of the bottom half first round. I
like Josh Connelly. I think the Commanders did a good
job getting another block for Jaden Daniels. It'll just be
interesting to see where they line him up.

Speaker 2 (33:24):
I'm with you, Tony, good stuff.

Speaker 1 (33:26):
