Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to our Draft reaction show presented by Kreshtron, John
Schmunk Paul Theatino with you. We don't have a pick
to react to yet on this Saturday of the NFL Draft.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
We'll get to that shortly.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
The Giants select here, Paul, at pick number one oh
five in round number four, so it's just two selections,
much like they pick third overall in the first round.
The fourth round mimics round number one. Yes, so they
picked third in this round of the draft. We're here
in the Hackensack and Meridian Health podcast studio.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Keep getting better, Paul.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
The Giants have walked away with Abdul Carter, the i'll
say top edge rusher in this draft class, Jackson Dart
one of those quarterbacks in that tier after cam Ward.
And then in round number three they get Darius Alexander,
a player that a lot of people had going in
round number two. We get to the Giants in a
round three a good value picked there, a long rangey, athletic,
(00:50):
big three technique defensive tackle out of Toledo. So we
get here in round number four, and we've talked about
the Giants needs. They've certainly addressed the defensive front. I
don't think they're going back into that bucket over the
course of the rest of this draft. I would by
that maybe a plugger at some point if you want,
but I don't think you have to. So we're talking
(01:12):
now offensive line or some type of weapon on offense.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Yeah, I think so. John. To me, you still have
to address the offensive line trenches and get another shot there.
But running back has got to be a consideration. I
would think right now we're talking about the juice of
that running back class right here. I think this is
a good spot for it.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
I'll say this, Paul, I think running backs in the
equation just because of how good the players are like
to be. The Jacks went the war next year at
Singletary and Tracy, they be fine. But the thing is
that that's where the strength of the class is right now.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
No question, it's the heart of the running back course.
So I think you're looking at running back, you're probably
looking at a consideration of an offensive lineman. And then
I think the other consideration may still be cornerback. And
I'm not saying that it's a heavy consideration, but I
think it's going to be on Joe Shane's mind because
the GM just told us a week or so ago
(02:06):
that he thought there were, you know, latter day cornerback
prospects who could enhance the depth of your team. We
know the Giants have had injury trouble at cornerback for years,
So are they going to keep an eye on the corners? Yes,
they will, sure, But I do agree with you. I
think right now, if you still want to get an
offensive lineman who can compete for a job, you're running
(02:28):
out of time very quickly, right you are. If you're
looking for a running back who can be part of
a rotation, this is a perfect spot to get one.
And again, if you're looking for a corner who's only
going to be a depth piece, you could probably even
wait around because they're kind of flatlined at this point.
(02:49):
I don't know that there's much of a difference between
the backup grades of the guys who are still on
the board.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Yeah, and look, I think you also look at this
offseason as a whole, Paul, coming off of a year
where the Giants two years, to be quite frank with,
the Giants have not just scored enough points, they have
not scored points even with the addition of the league neighbors.
Last year, they did not score enough points. Really, the
only additions besides some depth of offensive tackle that they've
(03:19):
added to this team have been on defense and a quarterback.
They have not added one weapon really at running back,
wide receiver, or tight end. So if you're going to
try to score more points this year at whichever position
you want a pinpoint to try to add a player at,
(03:39):
you could always use more speed, explosion, big plays to
go after players at those spots to help you at
those specific positions, just to try to score more points.
And look, the defense needed help too. I'm not saying
they did the wrong thing, but giving this offense a
little bit of a boost would not be a.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Bad thing either.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
No, not at all. I mean, look, there were still four, four, five, six,
and seven three more rounds to go. Actually, well four five, six, seven,
four more rounds to go. I gotta get my math right.
Giants do not have a sixth round choice, but they
do have two in the seventh. Again, I know that's
on the back end, so there's less significance to those,
(04:17):
but they've got picks here, and the fourth round and
fifth round choices are very critical. You know. You can
talk about the two guys in the seventh who are
kind of shots in the dark to some degree. But
I think the fourth and fifth rounders. You have to
be very, very careful and really thoughtful about making these
(04:38):
two picks because these guys could potentially still be rotational players.
There's a chance given the depth and the depth of
the draft and the thin spots on your roster. We
just mentioned the three areas of concern where I think
they could get guys who may earn snaps as rookies.
It's possible lesser at corner than the other two spots,
(05:01):
but but it could happen. I mean, heck, we also
know the Giants O line constantly gets hurt too, and
they're going through those guys like like pancakes at a
breakfast See, I'm gonna I'm not gonna use the name
at a breakfast place. Very good.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
We're making progress.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
And this is when your mind's half shot on day
three of the draft and actually pretty impressed. There you go,
So you have the Titans, then you have the Browns,
then you have the Giants. The Titans. It doesn't look
like the pick is in yet, that that is not
flashing on there yet. So you know, we'll see where
that goes as we move forward here, as the Giants
are getting ready to pick. All right, so let's go
(05:38):
through some names here, Paul, Yeah, Zoe, so fans can
can talk about exactly who we're looking at here. Okay,
at running back, The top running back I've left on
my board is camp Scattabow. In fact, he is only
one of two players with a second round grade that
I had on my board, him and Jack Sawyer. Then
(05:58):
I have in that next tier Dylan Samson and Damian Martinez.
I think any one of those three would be really
good picks here. If you're looking for more of your
your speed, fast, explosive guy, it would be Samson. If
you're looking for more of your maller, it would be
scatter Bow, or it would be Damian Martinez. And I
think any one of those three picks or players would
give you good value at this spot.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Yeah. I would add Oli Gordon that to that place.
The Oklahoma State guy, I know there have been some
off field issues with him.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
I have him Moore as a round four guy, but yes,
he is a banger.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
He qualifies as a banger. And you know Trevor at
Tien for not being the necessarily the biggest guy. He
does play like that. He is a forceful downhill runner.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
You think so.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Much power, but we can disagree with that.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Well, you know why, because he's low, he's slow. Center
of gravity is that so he does get to run
some downhill stuff even though he's not necessarily physically imposing,
doesn't have a large frame, and doesn't necessarily bowl people over.
He gets low and he's got some MCE to him,
so he's kind of in that category. I'm not necessarily there.
And by the way, I'm definitely scatter both though I
(07:04):
could throw Devin.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
I mean, I know he's I wouldn't consider him a banger,
but Devin Neil is a between the packles two hundred
and fifteen pounds running back.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
He's a good player.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
He does some of it.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Jordan James runs with force even though he's a smaller guy.
And then if you're looking again, you're looking I already
mentioned Dylan Samson. You're looking for a guy that's really
good as receiversh Brashard Smith at a SMUs around. Bachelle
Tuton is another guy that has some long speeded running back.
Those are the guys that you can keep an eye
on here for the Giants at running back.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
All right, let's jump over to wide.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Receiver than Paul. Where we've had let's say one, two, three, four.
We've had six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven receivers go
off the board already, including a couple guys that I
had a little bit later on, Savian Williams and Isaac Tesla.
But they're both big and super athletics, so they will
(07:53):
have an upside. So the receivers I have leftier Paul.
If you're looking for more of a speed, stir, quick,
all around wide receiver, I think he'd be Jalen Royals.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
He's the next guy for me.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
If you're looking for two bigger wide receivers that I
think would be good value, here is Elik i am
an Or from Stanford, Ye. And then I like Tory
Horton from Colorado State. I think that's a guy that
would look really good at the spot because he's big,
but he's also a pretty good athlete. So those would
be the receivers I'd be keeping an eye. And if
you're looking at that position here at the top around four.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Did you you mentioned Royals a second ago?
Speaker 2 (08:28):
He was the first guy I mentioned.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Here's here's what I wrote down for him, though I'm
not so sure if I wouldn't play him in the slot.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
I think you can play in both. I think he
can go both, just like Neighbors. So I think that's
a guy that you can then rotate back and forth right.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
And so, you know, the question becomes, are you looking
for one of those types of guys or do you
want somebody who you think is strictly a boundary guy? Yeah?
You know, and that's that was my only question about Royals.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
See, I'm trying to think ahead here a little bit.
As Wanda Rominson hits the end of his contract. Are
you looking for a guy that you can play in
the slot.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
Yeah, that's an interesting thought. That's a very interesting a.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Yeah, who knows. Tomorrow the Giants get signed to a
contract extension. I look like an idiot. I don't know
what their plans are in that regard, but just thinking
about the room, Slayton just resigned to a nice contract.
Neighbors is obviously here for the long term. Hyatt is
a speed perimeter guy, so it'll be interesting to see
where they go in that way.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Well, I owe my noors six to two okay, And
and you know, I wrote down physical instincts and Jukes
doesn't have that extra burst though, and and that's you
know again, it comes down to what flavor are you
looking for.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
He's more of a linear wide receiver to me.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
Yeah, so anyway, but I didn't have I that's it.
I only did the twelve wide receivers.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
I really I really like Tory Horton, I think, and
and by the way, Isaiah bonds in this mix too.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
But given the off the field.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
Stuff down there, yeah, I'm not going to go there.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
I decided to go there.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
Oh and a wide receiver goes but not one of
the ones we talked about. I think it's a time.
I believe Dyke out of Florida, I do not know
he was one of these guys that he's six foot,
one hundred ninety six pounds. His testing at the NFL
Combine it says four to three four off the charts.
It was really really strong. So that's a guy who
(10:16):
I didn't think when I watched him, and he was
at the Senior Bowl too, like you watched him, he
didn't look like he was that fast, but that's what
he tested at. So you're obviously trying to I think
teams are trying to shoot for some upside here. We
talked about Savion Williams, We talked about Isaac Tesla, Savion Williams,
really good athlete. Tesla tested off the charts as well,
and so did Dyke out of Florida, So Tennessee. Trying
(10:38):
to get a wide receiver there to help out there
on new quarterback camboard.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Well, typically when you see some of these spectacular numbers
for a guy who was not necessarily projected to go higher,
or maybe was projected to go lower because they just
thought the traits were really sexy, this is kind of
what winds up happening.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Yeah, I did not do a full write up on him.
Speaker 1 (10:59):
I just know from what I saw the Senior Bowl
and his testing, But you know, I think I thought
he was a Day three guy. The guys that I've
talked about, I like them a little bit more. But again,
talented player runs really well. All right, you want to
take a couple of calls here post or do you
want to go through two other positions?
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Real quick?
Speaker 1 (11:13):
Offensive line, real fast, all gonna go fast, all right?
Offensive line? Marcus Mbo is really the guy that stands
out to me like a like a sore thumb. No
one else really, I did not go super deep on
offensive lineman, but to me it would be Mboo would
be the guy that that stands out here. I have
a third round great on him. Uh, this would be
(11:34):
a really good time to pick him.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
You don't like Miles Frasier, then, oh you know what.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Yes, I didn't do a full write up on him.
I just know I had for him at at the
Senior Bowl. But yes, he he's more of a fourth round.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
Guy for me.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
I would have him below Mboo on my yea on
my list.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Flexibility, Fraser strictly your guard. I would not put him
a tackle, yes, but he plays very very angry, comes
from a great program, big, large frame, powerful, got some agility.
I really like Miles Frasier Mbau, of course, I definitely think.
And now Jalen Rivers out of Miami is interesting to me.
Now you saw him at the Senior Bowl, didn't you.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Yes, Okay, I think he's he's a stiffer guy.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
Yeah, but guard, tackle, flexibility and they worked him out
at center at the Senior Bowl, which kind of intrigues
me a little bit.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
I think he's more of Yeah, I agree, I would
have him below Mbow, but I think that's the guy
that is now in the conversation.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
I would think this pick.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
I agree with you.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
I think you would be in the conversation at this pick.
I'm absolutely with you on that. And then finally, tight end,
if you're looking for a move tight end, Gunner Helm
and Thomas Fadoni out of Nebraska, Helm's out of Texas.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
And then I think if you're looking for more of
that blocking tight.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
End, Mitchell Evans at a Notre Dame, would would would
would be the three guys at that position group that
I'll keep my eye on. But I think the other
guys probably have at those positions running back, wide receiver,
offensive line, probably have a little bit more value. You
are not a fan of Luke Luche not this high? Okay,
with all that injury history and a lack of proper
I know I can't take them.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
The injury history is a big deal, There's no question
about that.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
And I'll tell you what, pull most of the corners.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
And Gotchin's the other guy from Q's I would possibly
think of at some point if you really.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
Wanted to talk Quincy Riley at corner would probably be
the only corner that I would consider.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
At the spot.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
So yeah, I think that's what we're looking at all, right,
two to one nine three, nine, four five one three
and by the just head, what heads.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Up, folks?
Speaker 1 (13:22):
A little bit after the pick, I'm gonna have to
step out for probably like ten twelve minutes or so,
and then I'll come back. Paul will take your calls
in the meantime. But let's go to Hugo in New Jersey.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
He's up next. Here you go.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Well, hey, good good morning, I guess guys, or good
afternoon now since we're past nude boy, I was, I
was sweating it out yesterday when there was a mini
run on defensive tackles.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
There was.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
It was right right at the end of round two, right.
Speaker 5 (13:54):
Nine pick I went out for Collins when I was
really yeah, I know, I know, but I'm happy, you know,
I'm happy with the guy we got and things are
looking better, certainly for our front seven.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
And you know, I think the objective should be having
six quality guys in the defensive line room. Uh, and
maybe we're four or five right now, so would not
mind it at all if they think Farmer is the
best player on the board, taking him with the next pick.
(14:30):
And the reason why I say that, I mean, I
know people are feeling a lot better about our front seven,
but we have a little problem in that we play
in the NFC East, so we really need to be
exceptional off front because we're playing the Philly offensive line.
One thing Dallas has shown is that they will not
relent in putting resources into their offensive line. Just when
(14:52):
you think, oh, you know, Tyron Smith's retired out, they
draft Guide and just when you think, oh, you know,
Zach martinsers now they drafted Booker, and they got the
other Tyler Smith and Cooper Beebe and then quite very
very quietly, Washington sent a tremendous job of rebuilding their line.
I didn't think Sam Cosmy would be a great player,
(15:14):
but he's turning into a great player. And they got
Jeremy Towns the kids, the kid they drafted out of
Oregon in the first round. He's like perfect for their
scheme because he could really move. And Tyler biaddish. So
we got the problem that we have three what's looking
like three very strong offensive lines, and I'd like the
(15:37):
Giants d line to be the type of d line
that can play well against really good offensive lines, not
just make hay against mediocres of our offensive like it's
a requirement of the NFC East.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Well, you remember, now, for the last two months, I've
been saying to John, I'd have no trouble taking two
defensive tackles in this draft.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
I was all on board with that.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Now here's the problem, right The problem for me right
now is that you still need to address I think
the power running back and this is the sweet spot
for it.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
I agree with that, So.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
I'd have to push off the DT behind that priority.
I probably again it's getting fit at the offensive line.
If you want someone who's really got anything left, you're
gonna have to do that. And then the other thing
is a corner depth. So I guess I agree with
your point. I just don't know thank you to address it,
(16:31):
you know, especially since they lost the draft pick in
the Dart deal.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
So Bachelle Tune went to the Jaguars at pick two
that was in the Browns trade, and now the Giants
are on the clock Victor Cruz and Brand in London.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
Brand is not gonna like Victor talk, is he.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
I think he's just gonna keep going pretty much?
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Is that what we're looking at it. We're never gonna
get to Brandon's got the.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Victor's going now. He's doing this also with a bunch
of Germans. It's very awkward.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
It's great, but the Giants pick is in and Paul,
I think you might be happy here the Giants, and
I'm gonna be happy too, because I think think both
of us were excited about it. Oh oh yeah, it
is Skev's skataboo. The running back out of Arizona State. Whoa,
you have your power running back. Let me give my
(17:14):
schpiel first, and I'm gonna have to run out for
a minute and then you can come back here. Awesome balance,
plays with a low center of gravity, runs with power,
has a quick drump cut breaks second best tackle breaker
in this class after Ashton genty finishes his runs, pushes
the pile, has quickness, really thick, good vision to hit
the hole. He just doesn't have great top speed. He
(17:36):
ran in the four sixes, right, whatever, that's fine. He also,
by the way, is a great receiver out of the backfield.
He can catch the football too, so to me he
is a and look Tyron Tracy is awesome.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
I love Tyron Tracy. He's still gonna be a big
part of this offense.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
But if they needed Scataboo too, he could be in
every legit, every down back in the National Football League.
So I think they got a really nice combo now
with him and Tracy, that both guys, frankly, can do
it all.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
So I think it's great.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
Yeah, this is such a great fit. And the thing
about him too, and you mentioned the hands, John, imagine
this force of nature. You get him out there against
a linebacker or even against the safety or anybody out
on the perimeter, and you get him a short pass
and he gets up some steam, They're not gonna be real,
real happy or anxious to take him down. This guy
(18:24):
is a force. But more importantly, he is the type
of guy who can electrify your lineup, your bench, your huddle,
and your crowd. Scataboo is a guy who will not
only excel in your four minute offense as you try
(18:44):
to bludgeon your opponent into submission. He's also the guy
who will light that stick of dynamite under your offense
and even your whole roster, much like Brandon Jacobs did.
He is an emotionally charged, impact kind of guy who's
presence will draw out better things in his teammates. It's
(19:04):
not just about his numbers for me, it's about what
he brings as a complete package. So, yes, got to
be thrilled with that pick. If you're the Giants, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
I think you have to be. And he's a good player.
I had a second round great on him. I think
he's that good of a running back just because he
can do it all. Except again, he doesn't have the
long speed. That's the only thing he's resting with him,
and not great jukes. He's not gonna like dancing juke
you either, No, I know. But he can make people
miss in the whole.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
He can make people miss, but not with the kind
of jukes we're talking about. He's not a Scot back
kind of jukes.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
So he's not a Scot that he is, But he
can make people miss. He'd rather hurt people. Yeah, but
he he is the second highest. He is the second
most broken tackles in college football last year, set to genty.
So he is not just a run into people and
fall down.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
No no, no, no, no no no. He would run
through people.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
You can't tackle him.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
You just can't. So, Hey, great pick, great pick. Wow.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
All right, let's get reactions to the fans to one.
James and Georgie's up next.
Speaker 6 (20:03):
Hey James, Hey, what's going on? Guys?
Speaker 7 (20:05):
Thanks for taking my car. Y'all doing a great job.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
What's up?
Speaker 7 (20:08):
I really appreciate it. Uh yeah, the Giants stole my
thunder with picking camp Scatiboy before y'all could bring me on.
And I say, you know what, I think they should
choose the scataboo right here. But I know, uh, y'all,
I think John, you had him on your board.
Speaker 6 (20:24):
Now about that about.
Speaker 7 (20:25):
Sampson because he was uh you know, watching TV broadcast.
Daniel Jeremiah still had him on his board. But uh,
the Giants are doing a great job. How many picks
do we have left?
Speaker 8 (20:39):
Three?
Speaker 2 (20:40):
Yes, one in the fifth and the seventh correct?
Speaker 6 (20:43):
Okay?
Speaker 7 (20:43):
And uh like I was saying, uh, yesterday's gonna bring
it up just because you know, I know, I tweeted
y'all in the fifth round or later. There's no risk
at choosing to do or saying, get to have another
quarterback in the room. And I would keep four quarterbacks
(21:04):
and figure out the fifty three man roster because you
only have the other two on your on your year
for this year, and when Will Winston's gonna be your
back up and you can release them after next year
if you think you're good to go with the two
rookie that you got, and they did kind of just
(21:24):
make James.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
James, James, James James James, stop enough. I'm tired of
hearing about your Sanders. I'm done with it. He hasn't
gone in the draft. I get it. I feel bad
for him. I hope he gets picked in those two
good teams.
Speaker 7 (21:36):
It's not happening, right, But what like you know, how
like I was gonna man yesterday when r G three
and Kirk Cousin both went. I mean, there's not It's
not unheard of that you can pick two quarterbacks in.
Speaker 6 (21:48):
The same draft.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
Yes, I understand it's not.
Speaker 7 (21:51):
You know, it's not like an illegal move here. But
the guy that put up four thousand yards had the
highest completion percentage, albeit a lot of it screams and stuff.
You're not asking them to start tomorrow or next year?
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Well, real quick, James, and and then and then were
and then we're gonna drop this. But real, there's not
a real, real question for you if should or Standers
comes here? When when the when Washington drafted r G
three and Kirk Cousins, was there any question with the
fan base who the starting quarterback between those two.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Guys, was.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
No, No, if you do stand and then let me finish.
If you do Standers got started, got got drafted by
the Giants, would there not be half the fan base
that is screaming for one guy and half the fan
base that's screaming for the other.
Speaker 7 (22:38):
So just like, let the best man win, who's gonna win?
Speaker 9 (22:41):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (22:42):
You gotta let it play out.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
I know, but that does not always play into this.
But James, that is not healthy for the quarterback position.
You want to have a guy that the team do.
You want to split locker room and half the locker
room wanting one guy is a starter and half the
locker room one the other guy.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
You're letting your own personal emotions kind of guide your
words here, do yourself a favor and just kind of
put that to the side and understand that from a
football and business perspective, it does not make any sense.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
James. If he was playing a different position, you'd be right,
you pick the best player, but at the quarterback position,
it would open up such a can of worms of
conflict within the locker room and the team, where I
just I think it would be more counterproductive than what
you're giving you credit for. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (23:32):
But I also think that you still have to one,
we're going with Russell Wilson this year, that's already been aside,
and then we have a quarterback.
Speaker 10 (23:40):
What's wrong with a quarterback competition?
Speaker 1 (23:42):
I just explained to you what's wrong with the quarterback competition.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
It's going to cause unbelievable distraction. You don't want to
do that to yourself.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
And again you're in James. The problem is that you're
going to split the locker room. I don't care about
the fans. You don't want the locker room to split
on who you want to play.
Speaker 7 (24:00):
You think, well, I think we have veteran leaderships that
that will be in place to say.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Hey, James, James, I I appreciate your opinion. I appreciate
your opinion, and I and there's and and and.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
There's validity to it.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
I appreciate the call, thank you, but it's not gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
Sometimes okay sometimes, and I appreciate again your perspective and
and depending upon what angle you're looking at, you can
come up with all kinds of reasons to push forth
any kind of idea that you choose. Okay, I understand
that you're free to have whatever thoughts you want to have.
I'm simply telling you from a foundational perspective, it just
(24:46):
doesn't make enough sense. And I will see you later.
Enjoy the conversation with the scouts.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Thank you, two one nine three nin I didn't say
why I was going, but okay, okay, well you know
one nine four five one three is our number here
on the Giants Draft Reaction show, Paul Tatino with you
will get John back in here just a little bit.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
But in the meantime, we are reviewing Camp Scativo from
Arizona State, taken with the Giant's fourth round choice. Uh, Pearson,
why don't we go to a coach Marvin and he
is next on the program. Coach, very glad you had
a chance to call in. We haven't heard from you
the first couple of days.
Speaker 9 (25:26):
Yeah, I've been kind of How you doing anyway.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
Paul, very well? Thank you? How you been.
Speaker 9 (25:32):
I'm doing. Okay, I've been listening. I've been listening. I'm here.
When John come back, tell him, I said, all right, okay,
I think this was a good pick. I kind of
I kind of yelled out a little bit when his
name came up. It was Scatabool's name came up. They
did an excellent job in this draft, as they did
(25:54):
last year. I thought about the offensive guards.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
But is it Membo Membo Purdue? Correct?
Speaker 9 (26:04):
Yeah, I thought about him. If they could have it,
would they want to go down in the trenches like
you always say, and I can I agree with you.
You know you winning in those trenches if they would.
Speaker 6 (26:16):
Have went that way.
Speaker 9 (26:16):
But it was a few guys I did like the
receiver side got a boo. There was a few guys
still on the board that they can get. So they
did a good job. I'm impressed with what they did.
As far as the guy that was just calling uh,
I just let the encourage him. You're not gonna change
his mind. No, your door. I loved your door. He
(26:39):
was you wasn't in on last Wednesday, and I was
looking for you last month. But I talked to John,
and what I thought they were gonna do. They weren't
gonna take him at three, but I said that some way, somehow,
I feel they're going to go back and get your door.
They did go back and get a quarterback, but it
wasn't your door. So my heart broken for him. But
(27:01):
it's done. As far as the Giants, he's not coming here.
And you guys are totally right. I mean, I was
on a coaching young kids that's volunteering to come play,
they pay to come play, and they think they can
play quarterbacks. And what happens if I got two of them?
It's just a big problem coaching wise. You got him
(27:24):
on the sideline. You may even have another coach that, yeah,
you think we should put him in. It's just it's controversial.
You're divided no matter how you did it, and you
can't play this game divide it.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
They all got to be won, no doubt, coach, no doubt,
because no matter what do you think you can rationalize
on paper, in real situations, dynamics are often very different
than what's on paper.
Speaker 9 (27:52):
Yes it is, it's definitely different. Even right now I'm
looking at it. We look good right now, but I'm
not going to get over enthusiastic about it. They got
to go out and perform, and they it looks good
on paper, but you don't play this game on paper.
It's played on the field. So my thing that him
(28:13):
is very it's very difficult to have two of those
guys on the field and you definitely not the whole
locker room would be divided, the whole fan base to
be divided. You may even have we have two owners,
and those two owners may be divided and who should
be played. It just runs right through the organization and
(28:34):
you don't want that. And unfortunate for schedule or hope
he does get picked up and you know they're doing.
Speaker 10 (28:42):
A good job.
Speaker 9 (28:43):
Oh one thing I want to say, I hope mister
Mara kind of listened to these My thing is and
I can't tell them anything because they've been an excellent family.
Might plead to them. Give these guys another two more
years to coach this team, regardless of what the rect
I just want them to compete. If they compete, I
(29:04):
think they're gonna need time to build this team. To
give them one year, it's not gonna do it, and
then bring a whole new step in. But from one
of the fans that appreciated this team, I asked mister
Mara and mister Tish, you gotta think about giving them
more than one year. I think they need not just
(29:25):
this year, two more years on top of this year
and then make that decision. What you're gonna do, well.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
Coach, I think the offseason acquisitions and thanks for the call,
Please get back to us again during the course of
the week. I think there's no doubt in my mind
that between the free agent acquisitions and now these draft picks,
and again there were still a couple more to go,
for sure, three more to go. Actually, the Giants are
an improved team. It's quite clear on paper they are
(29:52):
an improved team from last year. And that's the mandate,
right The mandate is feel much better about the team
at the end of this seas then they did at
the end of last season. Well, the arrow is certainly
pointing in that direction, and pretty strongly in that direction.
How much still remains to be seen, but the odds
(30:13):
are pretty good that that's going to happen based on
the roster moves that this team has made to this point.
Let's go to Maurice and Montclair. You're next on the
Giants Draft Reaction Show.
Speaker 11 (30:24):
Hello, Hey, what's going on, Paul?
Speaker 3 (30:26):
How are we doing very well? How are you?
Speaker 11 (30:29):
I'm doing pretty good, man, pretty good.
Speaker 8 (30:31):
Listen.
Speaker 11 (30:32):
I love what the team is doing so far. I've
had my own a teens, but I'm not going to
go there. Congratulations to everybody, especially the guys that we selected.
But Paul, I wanted to talk about something specific. Yeah,
explain to me. Now, how do you see the Giants
linebacking core sort of the atmosphere around it, the projections,
(30:55):
what the hope is, who's projected to do what?
Speaker 10 (30:58):
Because I like what.
Speaker 11 (31:00):
The team is doing addressing all the other areas. I
feel like we've got stronger cornerback.
Speaker 6 (31:04):
Safety, et cetera.
Speaker 11 (31:06):
But like, are we just looking at the linebacker position like, Okay,
we're good, sort of like we've did with other positions
in the past, you know, or are we still looking
to add to that? And is there any player available
that you deem, you know, worthy to come in and
like sit in somehow and possibly be like the main guy.
(31:26):
And then I got one more.
Speaker 8 (31:27):
But I'll take this one.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
Okay, First of all, are you considering the edge rushers
part of the linebacking corps or are you just talking
about the inside linebackers.
Speaker 11 (31:36):
Yeah, sorry about that, I want to be more specific. Sorry, Yes,
the inside linebackers. You know a lot of these kids
do profile the linebackers, but they're.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
Just edge I know. The nomenclay sure, and the semantics
have changed so much over the years, you know, technically,
you know, Burns and Thibineo and Carter, they're edge guys.
Now they're not outside linebackers anymore because we've changed the wording,
so we're gonna go inside linebackers. I believe the Giants
believe that they will get better production out of o'kara
(32:05):
Kea and out of McFadden. And quite honestly, if Carter
winds up playing some in the two linebackers set inside
in place of McFadden, I think they think right there, okay,
that they're going to get a tremendous boost in production
from those guys because of what they've done to enhance
their defensive line up front. Keeping the laundry off of
(32:28):
those guys.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
I think that's number one.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
That's point number one. Point Number two to add to
that question is that I think they like Muissau as
a guy who can be a competent reserve, you know,
he did play some last year and showed some flashes.
I think they believe they got some depth in terms of,
you know, the ability to at least hold the fort
(32:52):
if they need to go there. Deantay Johnson is still back,
and you remember when he when he busted up his knee,
you know, was he was looked like it was gonna
be something, and then he got hurt. And now he's
still on the team to compete. So I think he'll
compete with Muissal, you know, and quite honestly, Chris board
(33:12):
who was signed from the Ravens primarily because he's a
special teams demon, he also has the ability to place
some inside linebacker. So you put that together with the
fact that the class of inside linebackers is not particularly
strong or deep, I would suggest that maybe you don't
see any inside linebackers during the course of the rest
(33:34):
of the draft.
Speaker 11 (33:36):
Right because the only thing I'm worried about, and I'm
gonna switch gears real quick and I'm gonna take everything
off there. Sure, the only thing I'm worrying about is,
you know, God forbid, we all know it comes with
the sport, but injuries because it happens to us, so
many times once our lead guy goes down and then
you know there's really not not you know that that
great of an insurance behind him, you know, to.
Speaker 6 (33:57):
To really keep things together.
Speaker 11 (33:59):
But I'll know this one that you bought. Everything that
we've done up front on the D line is amazing.
I think that's a major upgrade. But hit me with
this one. What's the thoughts on Elijah Chapman and who's like,
how is the number is gonna break down? And is
he even is he on the bubble? Sort of the
what's you know, what's going on with Chapman? Do we
(34:20):
still look at him as you know, I mean one
of these guys that could possibly become like a you know,
a significant guy in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
Well, thanks for the call, Maurice, And the answer is,
as I said last night, somebody called up with the
very same question. It's competition. You know. The Giants know
that they needed to improve not only just defensively as
a whole because the secondary gave up a bunch of
big plays. They went and spent some money to do
that in free agency. But now what have they done here? Okay,
(34:51):
they have now added Carter to the front seven. They've
added Alexander to the front seven, and that ignores the
fact that they also signed Goldston in free agency off
of the Cowboys, a guy who's just now getting into
his prime. So they've added three important pieces. And there
are a couple other guys like Ledbetter and so forth
and so on who I don't know exactly how they're
(35:14):
going to fit. But in terms of the more more
key editions, three guys to the front seven, this is
going to be a dramatically improved defense. I don't see
any other way to explain it other than if injuries
do decimate them, that's always the wild card. But on paper,
(35:35):
this is a dramatically improved defense, not just a little
bit better, a lot better. Now, in terms of Chapman specifically,
Andre Patterson, the Giants defensive line coach, is a huge
fan of his, and we saw how he was able
to get him into the rotation last year as an
(35:56):
NFL player. Now, what Chapman does for from here in
terms of his improvement during the offseason, whatever it is
that he's doing with his offseason workout program, and then
how does he work out when he gets to spring drills.
How does it play out during the course of the
summer camp. That's all on him. He's going to be
(36:17):
part of a very, very heated competition for the backup
lineman on this team. You got to remember something, there
are some other guys too who are going to be
chopping at the bit and try to take food off
of his plate. And that's just the way it goes.
We know Riley's here, we know Davidson's still here, Nacho
(36:38):
is still here. I mean, there's only so many forks
at the dinner table, and these guys are going to
be fighting for every bit of BP's and carrots and
mass potatoes that they can get their hands on, and
so Chapman will have an uphill battle. I don't think
there's any doubt because the competition increased dramatically in that
(37:02):
defensive line room. And if he wins a spot, it
will be well earned. And of course, whoever wins the
spot is to the betterment of the Giants, because the winners,
in theory will improve your football team. Let's go back
to the calls we have. I believe it is adjacent
in New Haven, Pearson and good morning, You're next on
(37:25):
the Giants Draft Reaction show.
Speaker 10 (37:27):
Hey for how you doing, Buddy?
Speaker 3 (37:28):
I'm wow, how are you I'm good?
Speaker 5 (37:30):
Good?
Speaker 10 (37:31):
Uh yeah, I'm loving it so far, man. I mean,
of course, you know, these things have to be played
out on the on the playing field, of course, but
you know, so far, so good. I think Shane's done it.
Think I thought he did a good job last year
in the draft. I think he's had a knockout of
the park rere agency period in the draft so far.
You know, granted these guys.
Speaker 9 (37:50):
Pan out, you know.
Speaker 10 (37:51):
Uh, I think he's doing a really good job. Cam
was kind of unexpected in my opinion, but he's a
you know, I told you guys, I'm a Longhorns fan.
And watching him play us in that semi final game,
I mean, he pretty much was their offense. It was.
It was pretty impressive, uh seeing the long runs, had
(38:13):
a pretty good defense, and he pretty much gashed him
the whole game, whether it was receiving, running the ball.
I think he threw a pass in the game, if
I'm not mistaken. So, I mean, he's a he's a
real tone setter, in my opinion, Yes, a real opposite
of Now Tracy runs hard too. I don't you know,
he's he's a he's a pretty he runs pretty hard
(38:34):
for his size, but Cam gives us this different dynamic
in the backfield. So you know that running back competition
in the summer is going to be really really interesting,
you know, because Cam and Tracy are making the team.
I would you know, oh yeah, yeah, those two are
making the team. So it's going to be interesting to
see how many running backs we carry. And uh, you know,
(38:56):
and that is concerned Abdul, of course, you know, I
have no complaints with that. The pick of Dark was
at I won't say shocking, you know. I know I've
called and said I was your door fan. I'm not
even gonna go down that path because he's not on
our team, so I'm not even gonna comment on that,
but you know, and you know, good luck to him. Hopefully,
(39:18):
you know, hopefully a team takes a chance on him,
because I think he has talent. But Dark, hey, they
would like him, so that's good enough for me. He
thinks he could work with him, you know, I'm I'm
I'm fine with it. And then the Darius Alexander kid,
and you just mentioned Paul. The the d line is
really shaping up to be a really really nice looking
(39:41):
looking part of our team. From Dex to Kvon to
that dude, to Burns the Ghost and you know, I
know people don't know too much about Letbetter, but he's
a really really I think he'll be the backup nose guard.
He's a real I don't think people realize he's a
really good run defender.
Speaker 6 (39:57):
In the league.
Speaker 10 (39:58):
I know he doesn't have like a big name. People
don't know about me right right, the really good two gapper,
you know. So I think he's going to really give
some good snaps Jason.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
I love the versatility that they've added to the line.
It's not just the talent that they've added, but Goldston
has the ability to be a run setting end or
a three technique, and Alexander, who's primarily a three technique,
could also do some of that. I see. So I
see the additions as not only giving them numbers of
(40:29):
quality players, but the versatility and the opportunity to change
things up depending upon the matchup if you're playing a
power rushing team or not. You might even see guys
with Ford down linemen. You might see Ford down linemen
this year at times.
Speaker 10 (40:44):
Yeah, and the thing with that duel is he played
off ball line backs. Yes, so you could you can
move him around. You you can spy him for the
likes of Hurts and the young man in Washington and
dak You know, you have a lot of you know,
you have a lot of weapons.
Speaker 6 (41:00):
Qus, you know.
Speaker 10 (41:01):
And I don't want to put the cart before the
horse here because these things have to be played out
in training campst season and in the season. But on
paper we're looking good. And a few more names before
I let you go, because the yeah, sure, the I'm
with the other Cailler. I think I would like to
see another linebacker taking It doesn't have to be the
next pick in the fifth round. But to me, there's
(41:22):
some interesting interesting names. Stutsman from Oklahoma, we got Chris
Paul ole Miss. You know, there's some there's some nice
looking linebackers and also the offensive line. There's some interesting
names available.
Speaker 6 (41:36):
You know.
Speaker 10 (41:36):
I don't know what the team thinks about them. Of
course I'm not in those rooms. But some guys are
like Cameron Williams and Texas. You got Jack Nelson from Wisconsin,
Holland Pierce from Rock Rutgers, Jalen Travis. You got some
guards in the mixed you know, Marcus Embow, which I'm
surprised he's still on the board.
Speaker 3 (41:54):
That's the guy who I think has fallen the most
of the offensive lineman that I watch. I think Miles
Fraser from LSU. I've talked about him a lot. I
like Miles Fraser, but I think this is the sweet
spot for him, and the Giants didn't go there. They
went to the running back, which, as we've discussed, we're
both okay with. But I think this would have been
(42:16):
the sweet spot for Fraser. M Bow I think should
have gone around earlier.
Speaker 10 (42:21):
I don't know why he's still there. Yeah, and one
more name, the the dtack. I wouldn't be opposed, you know,
depending on how the draft balls. With Shane and Dable
and those guys, I wouldn't mind taking another look at it.
You know, I know we only have what three more picks.
If I'm my mistaken, It was kind of tough, but
I went on to my you know, the draft balls
(42:43):
and best player available, I wouldn't mind looking at another
de tackle. There's some good, you know, nose tackles still left,
you know, Cam Jackson of.
Speaker 3 (42:50):
Florida, Joshua Farmer, Yeah, you got CJ.
Speaker 10 (42:53):
West, I got Ty Hamilton, Jordan Phillips. So there's some
really good names still fessed on this board. So I'll
let you guys go.
Speaker 6 (43:01):
But so far, so good.
Speaker 10 (43:02):
I have no complaints, and yeah, go Giants, Thank you.
Speaker 2 (43:05):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (43:06):
Jason. You know, as we discussed with John a little
bit earlier, and I've said this a number of times
in the last month or so, Pierson can vounch for me.
I was all on board with taking two defensive tackles,
you know, take a plugger, but also take a three
technique penetrator. But that's when they had their full complement
of draft choices. Once they made the trade for darn
(43:28):
and they lost one of the third round picks, that
now lessened the amount of shots you would have at
the cupboard. Once that happened, it kind of changed my priority.
Now it was like, Okay, if they can get a
really high quality defensive tackle prospect, you might just have
(43:49):
to live with one, because you had to have enough
of picks to also go get a legit running back,
potentially a competitive offensive lineman, and then also the depth
cornerback guy. And that's where we're kind of at now.
They got the fifth rounder. To me, they're going to
(44:09):
have to figure out with the fifth rounder. Is there
an offensive lineman still worth taking by the middle of
the fifth round who can compete for a job given
the line that they have right now and the guys
on the depth chart in the room. That's what the
question is going to be for me as to whether
or not. You know, obviously you still want to go
(44:30):
best player available, but if you're going to try to
match up need with value, is the best offensive lineman
at that point able to compete for a job realistically
when you have some other guys still in this room,
right you have Azudu, and you have Kubas. You know,
you have some guys in that room already, young fellas
(44:53):
who they've worked with Carmen Brisillo for a year and
would like to continue their upset and their opportunity to
be in the National Football League. So you kind of
have to grade that, and we're getting real thin now.
I just don't know there's going to be an offensive
lineman at that point that you feel good about. The
(45:16):
other thing is the corner spot. You know, I like
Burke out of Ohio State. He's got really good traits,
a little bit up and down, a little bit inconsistent.
I totally understand that I think though, he's certainly someone
who you'd want to consider in the fifth round because
I think the value is there based on the pure
(45:36):
toolbox if you were looking to enhance the cornerback spot.
And then excuse me, Dorian Strong out of Virginia Tech
is the other one who I kind of like in
that spot. Potentially really good ball scales physical, he wraps up.
I think that would be another guy you might want
to talk about in the fifth because once you get
(45:59):
past that pick the fifth round, there's no sixth round
choice here, right, They've only got two sevens. After the
fifth round pick, you're not going to get an offensive
lineman in all likelihood who has a chance to compete
at seven In all likelihood, anything's possible, for sure. Heck,
(46:20):
Richie Cybert was an undrafted rookie free agent. Kubas undrafted
rookie free agent Nick Gates some years a couple of
years ago, a few years ago now, undrafted rookie free agent.
It could still happen. But if you want to get
one of those guys, for sure, you may have to
do it in the fifth the corner you may have
(46:41):
to do it in the fifth. So that's kind of
why to me, I'm not really thinking insidelinebacker. In addition
everything that I just said earlier to the caller Jerome
and Charlotte, you're next on the Giants Draft review show.
How are you doing?
Speaker 8 (46:57):
AI?
Speaker 6 (46:58):
Yeah, I'm my thunder about the draft. I'm loving it.
I think the team is going to be much better
this year. I see playoff possibilities already and it's not
even over with yet. But one I have my biggest
(47:21):
question or concern is, well, Russell Wilson, Okay, if he
leads us to the playoff, is it possible re resign
him and keep that momentum going and see how far
we can go, or you think that he's be one
and done.
Speaker 4 (47:41):
Well.
Speaker 3 (47:41):
They shigned him to a one year deal for a reason.
It does not include a second year team option, right,
so I think they were being straight with him and said, look,
the way we're looking at this right now, it's in
all likelihood going to be one year, so let's just
commit to the one year. And maybe even Wilson told
(48:01):
the Giants, look, if you guys wind up drafted a
young quarterback, I don't want to be in the same
spot that Kirk Cousins is in. With Atlanta where he
signed a multi year deal, and then they went and
drafted Michael Pennix, And now Cousins feels betrayed and he
wants out of Atlanta because they went and they drafted
a kid.
Speaker 1 (48:21):
So maybe Wilson was.
Speaker 3 (48:22):
The one who wanted the one year deal and not
the Giants wanting to give him a one I don't
know the answer to that. I was never in those negotiations.
They took eleven days of negotiations to get that thing signed,
so there must have been a lot of give and
take and different ideas on both sides of that fence
before they came to an agreement. My simple logical answer
(48:44):
to you is that Russell Wilson's going to be thirty
seven by mid season, not fifty seven thirty seven. So
if Russell Wilson has a really good year and the
Giants do something with this season and become a postseason team,
I don't think it's totally out of the question that
they might want to talk to him and ask him
(49:05):
if he wanted another year. At the same time, Russell
Wilson may say I have now re enhanced my value
to the league because after that slump with Pittsburgh. Maybe
my stock was down a bit, and now if I've
raised it with the Giants, maybe he thinks he can
go somewhere else and get an even better deal. So
I think all doors and possibilities are open. But I
(49:29):
think as we sit here today, you're probably looking at
the odds. Are Wilson is a one year deal? Does
that answer your question?
Speaker 6 (49:38):
No, yes it does. I was feeling that, but I
wasn't sure y'all. You know, y'all make me look good
because I take what y'all say and tell her all
my friends and colleagues and other people. It almost seem
like I should be an analyst. But I just repeat
(49:59):
what y'all i'll say.
Speaker 1 (50:01):
And do we get any royalties on that time?
Speaker 3 (50:05):
You're a really good fan.
Speaker 6 (50:06):
I'm like, well, you know, I just do my homework
and steady. You know, I watched stuff. Well mostly I
just repeat what y'all say, and you know, y'all make
me look and feel good.
Speaker 3 (50:19):
Well, we we appreciate Not only do we appreciate your listening,
we also appreciate you for for for spreading the word
and UH and calling into the program. So thank you
so much, And John is back. Did you have a
good time.
Speaker 1 (50:32):
That was really really good. I don't know how we're
going to use that, and and and when we're going
to use it, and hopefully it will get used.
Speaker 2 (50:38):
But yeah, what what I did was very interesting.
Speaker 3 (50:41):
I'm glad. We will talk about it later. Yes, in
the meantime, you should know the fan base.
Speaker 1 (50:46):
It just ate lunch, the barbecue and the cookies.
Speaker 3 (50:50):
Oh so this whole thing was a scam. You just
wanted piercing and out to starve. Well, you fed your face.
Speaker 2 (50:58):
I was hugly, can I tell you?
Speaker 5 (51:00):
All right?
Speaker 1 (51:01):
So I have no idea who even went. So we
had Coule Woodson, Jack Kaiser, Dante Thornton, Deon Walker went, Okay, yeah,
Ty Robinson, CJ. West, Trevor atn went, Cody Simon. Any
trade ups here from NFC East teams or anything, all
the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (51:13):
You have to Ty Robinson.
Speaker 3 (51:14):
Yeah, and I know that so far. I would say
you certainly we got some calls on Scatti bow and
there's positive response for sure.
Speaker 2 (51:23):
Good, That's what I like to hear.
Speaker 1 (51:24):
All Right, let's go to Tony in Arizona, who was
up close and personal with Cam Scattaboo this year.
Speaker 6 (51:29):
Yes, Hey, thanks for taking my call.
Speaker 3 (51:34):
Guys, preach Tony tell Us watched.
Speaker 8 (51:36):
I watched this kid play every game. This kid plays
with heart, he plays with respect. What I like about
what the Giants have done with this draft is they're
bringing in a changing mindset and they're really going to
stamp up the competition in camp with the guys who've
been there. I mean, this is my own I've been
a Giant fans in sixty eight when I was a kid.
I think Shane took the hit signing uh the the quarterback.
(52:00):
I think that was Mara that did that. Shane's going
to take the hit if you look at what Shane
has done. Yeah, I didn't want to give up Barkley,
but what was Barkley going to get twelve hundred yards?
Speaker 6 (52:09):
We don't have a we.
Speaker 8 (52:10):
Didn't have a line. We're getting better at the line.
We're not going to be able to fill all the
holes in this draft. We're probably gonna, you know, as
Paul said, an offensive lineman is not there, which obviously
I think they took Scataboo because they knew he went last.
Even though they might have won an offensive lineman. I
think they're really changing the mindset and dark look Phil Simms.
One thing about Phil was his accuracy, but he had
(52:32):
a strong arm and a giant stadium with those crosswinds,
you need a strong armed quarterback, and I think they
saw with Jackson Dawet this is a kid from a
mentality standpoint, a respect standpoint, a talent standpoint. He is
the type of quarterback that's going to do well and
fit in the Gable system. We all know it's about
(52:52):
the system. If you know, you may do well in
another place because the system fits better for you as
a player. So I think the Giants I've taken a
major step forward here. If they played five hundred this year,
it's a win. I hope Marred does the right thing
and gives these two guys contracts because as players, you
want to know that you have your coach is going
to be there, your GM is going to be there.
(53:13):
This isn't going to, you know, solve all our problems overnight,
but I think they took a major step in the
right direction. And I truly appreciate what you guys do.
I enjoy listening to the show and I feel good
about the season ahead.
Speaker 1 (53:25):
Thank you, Tony, appreciate the call. Two, one, nine, three,
nine three. I'm not going to get into the ol
Daniel Jones resign anything. The ownership would not force the
GM deside a player he doesn't want him to study.
Never just putting that out there and coming off a
playoff ye, or you're just not going to get.
Speaker 2 (53:39):
Rid of your quarterback. That's just not a realistic situation.
Speaker 1 (53:41):
We're not going to dive into that whole situation again.
Speaker 2 (53:43):
It was what it was.
Speaker 1 (53:44):
It didn't work out, and especially quarterback correct. I will
say this, the level of like intensity and competitiveness from
I'm not having been up close with with Alexander, I'm
assuming he has it too. I just don't have a
feel for him like I.
Speaker 3 (54:00):
Do the other guy he comes off the tape.
Speaker 1 (54:02):
But in terms of personality, like Jackson Dark is a competitor,
Oh yes, Abdul Carter has an edge to him. Just
walking around the facility, you get to feel that there's
always like an intensity to him. And then camp Scataboo,
my gosh, the way that dude plays. He just plays
like a bulldozer where he plays with a force of
(54:23):
personality and force of will where I really think you
did add to some you know, really tough, physical, competitive
guys with that play with an edge to this roster.
You know, you don't need that. You don't need everybody
in a boy scout. Some guys can be jerks, and
that's okay. I'm not saying these guys are jerks, but
you want the guys playing like that on the field
(54:44):
where they get under the skin of opponents. These they
play with a certain ferocity and a certain energy. That's
a good thing.
Speaker 2 (54:50):
I like that.
Speaker 3 (54:52):
Well, on Big Blue Kickoff Live, you have the cut
from Lawrence Taylor about going play like a bunch of
crazy way And that's the thing. Like, like you talk
to these guys, they're all very nice. Like they came
into our The guys came into our studio and did stuff.
Darden and Carter, they were awesome. You know we we
we talked to Skytaboo at the combine. He was like
a really nice kid.
Speaker 1 (55:09):
Oh, really nice kid. But when they get on the field,
it like a transformation where like these guys are our animals,
which is which is good. You like that, and you have.
Speaker 3 (55:17):
To understand for guys who are in that huddle and
on that sideline who maybe don't have that extra shot
of adrenaline or that extra spark that day. When they
see a teammate go out there and do that kind
of thing, it takes them with him.
Speaker 1 (55:32):
I mean, it's like Dexter. Dexter is a good dude,
but he has on the field, he's a killer.
Speaker 3 (55:36):
Yes, and when he makes a play and he does
his little you know, stomach shake and everything stone shake. Well,
I guess that's the stomach right. Yes, everybody gets into it.
It's an inspiring kind of thing.
Speaker 1 (55:48):
Looks like he's kind of like winding something up with
each other. Yeah, I've never I'm not gonna try to
imitate that.
Speaker 3 (55:54):
I was gonna say, no one has anybody ever asked
him what that's called.
Speaker 1 (55:57):
No, I don't think we need to do that.
Speaker 2 (55:59):
The sexy DEXI I guess it is, all right, I guess
that's what it is.
Speaker 1 (56:02):
Okay, all right, we got two more calls. Let's get
to them.
Speaker 2 (56:05):
Let's go to Richard, Virginia. First. Pierce and rich what's
going on?
Speaker 6 (56:08):
Hi?
Speaker 1 (56:08):
John?
Speaker 12 (56:09):
And Gottsard actually in Florida. Now just I concur with
almost all the callers. I like what JS and Bead
have done here, But bol I want to go back
to your comments on the A line. That is exactly
my concern. JS brought in all these free agents, I think,
and you'll probably agree that most of those guys are
(56:30):
for depth. My concern is, you know what our lousy
injury history. You know last year at went down and
Luminora went down. You know he had coop Us in
there and Stenny, But can you know, considering the schedule
we play, plus the NFC East, that's my concern. It's
just we You know, d line has been improved tremendously,
but that old line. You gotta protect Russell Wilson. So
(56:54):
I couldn't concur with you more. That's still my concern.
Speaker 3 (56:57):
Understood. It's getting really, really thin though, in terms of
what's on the shelf of this draft, and.
Speaker 2 (57:04):
I don't think.
Speaker 1 (57:04):
I don't think at this point you're drafting anyone that's
gonna challenge him.
Speaker 3 (57:08):
Doesn't seem like it to me.
Speaker 1 (57:10):
Even though like Mbau, who is a good player, he's
a little he's more of like a raw developmental guy.
Speaker 2 (57:16):
He's not a guy you're gonna plug it right away.
I don't think.
Speaker 3 (57:18):
Here's the thing, we.
Speaker 1 (57:20):
Don't all the running backs are coming off now, by
the way, Wow. Well, we talked about the running back
sweet spot in the fourth round right the heart of
the beef steak, right by the way we talk about it.
So you've had Bachelle Toton go off the board in
this round. We talked about camp Scattaboo go off the board.
We had Wood he marks from us. He come off
the board. Jarquez Hunter just came off the board. So
(57:43):
I just listed all these running backs. Well, guess what,
Dylan Samson, Damian Martinez, Devin Neil, Jordan James, DJ Giddens,
and Pashard Smith are all still there. That's how good
this running back class is.
Speaker 3 (57:56):
Oh sure. I think all the way back at the Combine,
we people telling us you could probably go early, third
round and not third.
Speaker 1 (58:04):
Fifth round, then still get a guy. And I think
that's gonna be the case here.
Speaker 3 (58:08):
Yeah, But there's only I'm sorry, no, no, there's only
one Scataboo, though there is a hand one and the
truth and the truth is I remember telling John I'd
love to get him in the fourth, and you convinced
me you probably got to get him in the third.
Speaker 1 (58:21):
You can't get him in the fall, And I was wrong,
And no, but and.
Speaker 3 (58:24):
So I think we settled at ninety nine.
Speaker 1 (58:27):
But yeah, we might have we did, Yeah, we might have.
Speaker 3 (58:29):
We settled at ninety nine and that okay, that's realistic.
Maybe at ninety nine, and then the Giants traded ninety nine.
Speaker 1 (58:36):
Well luckily one oh five was only six off of
ninety nine, thank goodness, thank goodness. Absolutely yeah, I thought
he would go between sixty five and ninety nine. That's
where I thought the range was going to be for him.
Even though I had him great higher, I thought he
was more of an early third, you know, mid thirdeen.
Speaker 3 (58:48):
No, I got it.
Speaker 1 (58:49):
It worked out all right. Final call the show is
Cliff in New York.
Speaker 2 (58:53):
He will wrap us up today. Hi, Cliff, folks.
Speaker 1 (58:55):
Another reason we're getting off we have to The NFL
limits our streaming time on Saturday to an hour. So
we just were just doing we have to do. We'd
love to be on longer. Pearson begged for it. He
called the league himself and said, I just want to
keep working, but unfortunately we're not. Goamaility.
Speaker 3 (59:07):
Yeah, but we'll be back tomorrow morning.
Speaker 1 (59:08):
Yes, on WFN from eight to ten am. That is correct, Paul,
Good call Cliff, what's up?
Speaker 13 (59:13):
Okay? Obviously we've accomplished a lot. I have two questions
on the front seven. On defense, Have we accomplished an
upgrade for when Dexter Lawrence leaves the field for a series?
Speaker 2 (59:28):
Well, I think when Dexter Lawrence leaves the field for
a series, it's going to be led better the nose
tackle you got from Jacksonville.
Speaker 3 (59:35):
At this point, that's the only guy I think who
could possibly take those snaps adequately.
Speaker 1 (59:40):
And frankly, he was probably going to be better right
away than whatever unless you were picking a nose tackle
on day two, he was going to be better than
whatever nose tack you got in the draft.
Speaker 3 (59:48):
Yeah, because you know what, Cliff, in all honesty, this
was one of the reasons. In fact, it was the
premier reason why I said to John, I would like
to try to get too a plugger and a penetrator.
But as I discussed earlier, once they traded that that
pick in the Dart deal, now you had fewer picks,
you had the same amount of holes to fill. You're
probably gonna have to go with.
Speaker 13 (01:00:08):
What you got, okay. And then the other thing is
you've mentioned a number of times about Okara, Kay and
McFadden benefiting greatly from improvements up in front of them. Absolutely,
what about what about when they leave the field like
they did last year because of injury? Can do we
(01:00:28):
have Do we have an upgrade to it looked like
we didn't have an upgrade sufficient to replace them last year.
Speaker 3 (01:00:35):
Well, you're not going to get anybody at this point.
I don't think. I just saw Simon went off the
board by the way, Ohio State. He just went off
to oh the linebacker, Yeah, okay, he just went off.
He was about well, he was about the only guy
who I kind of in the back of my mind
thought like, if he drops, you might want to consider him.
Speaker 1 (01:00:52):
Jeffrey Bossa Vassa from Oregon is a good player. Danny
Stutsman went off the board, right, he's gone. Demetrius went on,
He gone, it's thin, it's really fair. You're you're you're
starting to thin it out.
Speaker 6 (01:01:05):
Now.
Speaker 3 (01:01:05):
What I said to the guy before, Cliff, I don't
know if you joined us while the other callers were on,
but look, they've got what they've got, right. You got Moso,
you got Bored who came in from Baltimore who's a
phenomenal special teams player but has played some inside linebacker.
I mean, your depth is going to be a little
thin there. That's just the way it's going to be.
You know that in sub situations you got the ability
(01:01:29):
to also play Carter as an off ball linebacker, and
if you're playing in a dime, he's gonna be one
of the two linebackers on the field. I don't think
it's that much of a concern.
Speaker 13 (01:01:40):
Well, that's good. The thing I noticed about Carter when
I just saw his picture for the first time, he
has the neck of a linebacker.
Speaker 2 (01:01:46):
Oh boy, yes he does.
Speaker 1 (01:01:48):
He looks thick. Cliff, we got a run. We're hitting
our hour a limit here, Paul. This is fun all
three days, man.
Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
Really good.
Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
You got a John. We'll do it tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
That's our Draft Reaction show, presented by Crestron from the
Hackensack Mariney Health Podcast studio Keep getting Better. As Paul mentioned,
eight am tomorrow, Wfan, Paul and I will be with you.
