Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's time to get inside the Giants Hut.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Let's go, Let's go Giants, get out on the Giants bubbling,
give me some job.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Part of the Giants Podcast Network.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Let's roll. Welcome to another tim the Giants Little Podcast,
brought to you by Citizens, the official bank of the Giants.
We are in the Giants Podcast Studio, presented by Hacking
Sack of Brining Health, keep getting better, and we are
thrilled to welcome in, which has become a yearly tradition
for us. When Albert Breer is on his training camp
tour he visits the Giants, he always comes on and
then jumps on our platform. Albert, how are you man?

Speaker 2 (00:28):
I'm good, I'm good. I'm a little tired. But we're
almost done here. So this is actually my last stop.

Speaker 4 (00:33):
It's twenty six in the book, so twenty six to
thirty two.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
That's pretty good.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Yeah, not bad, not bad. Twenty five is usually my target.
So I just got one over it this.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Time and we got to twenty six. That's great. We
appreciate you doing this the worst. If you want to
keep track of what's going on in camp, I love
your little like four or five, Yeah, like little notebooks,
which is great. You can find that on Monday Morning
Quarterback of course on Sports Illustrated and the course also
the host of the MMQB podcast as well. So what's
your kind of feel as you're about the part giants

(01:00):
camped after spending a day?

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Yeah, I mean, I I think that there's a good
positive vibe. But you'd hope you don't want to be
at this point with like less than two weeks to
the opener and and you aren't feeling good about where
you're at.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Like I said, you're a team at August. You better
feel positive now because.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
But I mean you can still you can still like
kind of pick up on vibes. If you've been doing
it for as long as I have, you kind of
get an idea of where of where a team is at,
some of the cues to look for.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
And I you know, I think one thing that.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Like you know, you you do here here is that
I think like so much of it's going to come
down to what they're doing with the lines of scrimmage.
And but they feel really optimistic about where they are
with both with both with both groups now obviously I
think they'll be for the public more optimism about where
the defensive front is versus the offensive front with you know,

(01:48):
with the three rushers they have obviously and Burns and
Thibodeau and Abdul Carter coming in Dexter Lawrence. But the
offensive line, I think it's you know, you hold your
breath that Andrew Thomas can get back on the field
and stay healthy. But if he's back out there, I
think they do feel I thinks could fall into place.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
I will say this. I do feel like if you
talk to Brian Dable and Joe Shane, there is a
lot more I think internal confidence seeing what the first
five and a half games looked like last year before
Andrew Thomas and happened, that you can get a better
level of play and more consistent level of play. They
are a special second year of carn Brisillo. Basically the
same groups back again, which does help on the offensive

(02:25):
line that this offense can function more consistently at a
higher level.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Yeah, and I think, like, you know, one thing that
they did do last year was was brain Carron Brisilla
a board who's obviously got the share background with Brian Dayball,
and I think that that that can be an underrated thing.
You know, a lot of people would tell you that
the offensive line coach is the third most important assistant
on the stat totally agree with that, and you know,
having him completely synced up with what Brian Daball wants.

(02:52):
With the offense, Brian Dable is going to run and
that was a big part of how they played in
the first six games last year. And obviously things went
the wrong way after Thomas got hurt, but I'd say
there aren't a lot of teams that would survive, you know,
left tackle injury that way, right, And so yeah, I mean,
I think that's there's there's a lot riding on on
on what that group looks like coming.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Out of camp, for sure, And I think especially with
the way Russell Wilson plays quarterback, right, because you're gonna
run some play actions where he's gonna have some deep drops,
he's gonna hold the football a little bit, and you know,
Brian Dable, I think is gone to painstakingly to a
point where he's trying to really customize this offense to
maximize what Russell Wilson can do. And I think getting
adequate protection in front of him is really the lowest

(03:35):
bar of things that are necessary to make this work
with him as the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yeah, I mean it's leaning in to what he does well,
and obviously the deep ball is a big part of that.
You know, using him as a runner a little bit
not like you like like it's ten years ago, but
using him as a runner, getting him on the move
and getting him playing off play action and gain the
ball out of his hands.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
You know, like there are gonna be the.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Circumstances like you said, where you're you've got him taking
deeper drops and you've got to protect and you know
you're you're trying to get him to work to get
the ball downfield.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
But you know, I think there's also going to be
an effort to try to get.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
The ball out of his hands fast and get him
playing fast. And there are things that I think you
can go back over the years and you can see
in piece together and I think that's one of the
things that's like probably really really encouraging for Russ is
how they are going to lean into to what.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
He does well.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
And he had a good year last year in Pittsburgh,
you know, when they sort of tailored the offense to
to to what he does well and looked hard at
what he did well. In Seattle, and you know, I
think that you'll probably see more of that, you know,
and how Brian Dave all says things out.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Yeah, we saw a lot of screens and RPOs in
the preseason. I think that's some way to try to
protect the line a little bit.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Get that, by the way, helps you rookie quarterback too,
because there's a lot of crossover there. And that's one
thing that I kind of like about the way the
quarterback room is set up is that, you know, you're
subtly putting in some things that Jackson Dart also has
experienced with from Old miss. So I think we all
presume Dart will be the quarterback in twenty twenty six,
you haven't set up, you know, you have like kind

(05:03):
of an infrastructure set up for the other ten guys
in the huddle that presumably would carry over if that
transition happens.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
I think the interesting to me, interesting thing to me
Albert is that even though this is the fourth year
of this regime, it feels new in a lot of
ways because of I think the way Russell Wilson and
just Darius Layne referred to him as disgustingly consistent today,
and that was the expression that he used, and just
the confidence in him even though again not the player

(05:31):
was ten years ago, and just his attitude in what
he brings as somebody. A lot of these guys who
in there were frankly teenagers, watched win a Super Bowl.
I feel like just just brought a very different energy
to the building.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Yeah, I'd say, like a lot of it is just
setting a bar, you know what I mean? Like, and
I think that's the thing that he doesn't even have
to really, he really doesn't have to speak that, you know,
he can just do that part of it. And like
that part is setting a bar for work ethic expectation.
You know, I'm gonna have some stuff that I'm gonna
write about off of this that sort of illustrate that

(06:02):
a little bit. But you know, he it's it's it's
on the field, it's the training part of it.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
It's taking care of your body.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
It's all of those little things that you know, I
know the giants feel like have rubbed off on some
guys here, and it's stuff that I think you only
get from, you know, being a pro for as long
as he has, and this is fourteenth year, I think
I have that right. It makes me feel old, but
I do that. But I do think, you know, like
there's an element of just the way that he handles
his business for all of his flaws, like the work

(06:32):
ethics never really been questioned, and you know, like I
think that just as far as how he goes about
his business has been good for the younger players to
see that.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
And I think one of the guys you mentioned the
younger guys rubbing off on players, I think one of
those players as my lage neighbors. Right heading into a
second year, we've seen those guys kind of have a
bond and it's been growing a little bit. I'm not
sure if Russ has ever had He's had some great
receivers now, I'm not sure he's never had a number
one that can do all the different type of things
that neighbors can do. What do you think that connection

(07:01):
is gonna look like this year be team those times?

Speaker 4 (07:02):
Yeah, he's definitely a different player.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
I mean, you know, he had George Pickens, who's ultra
ultra ultra talent in Pittsburgh. You know, there were other
questions with Pickens, but talent was never won. Yeah, you're
I mean, like Denver Good, not great the Court and
Courtland Suton, Jerry.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
Judy, Metcalf, lockhart.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Y, Yeah, Lockett like Tyler lock Lockett, Yeah, Tyler Lockett.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
You know, Doug Baldwin, Golden Tate, Percy Harvin.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
So he's had good players around him. He's had talented
players around him. I like, I do think like the
relationship there is important, you know, and elite neighbors. Coming
off his first year, I think has a chance to
be one of the best receivers in football this year.
And you know, a lot of it's gonna come down
again to like what happens with the other ten guys

(07:53):
on offense, and uh, you know, everybody putting him in
a position to do that stuff, whether it's how the
how the line blocks, how the run game produces positive
down and distance situations, how the other receivers are able
to threaten, so you know, the defense can't overcommit to him.
But I like, I think all the talents there, and

(08:15):
it does sound to me like he's been really intentional
about building up his relationship with the Ross, which obviously
is going to be a.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
Big part of whatever success they have.

slash Giants. Let's go to the defense average. You mentioned
building from the trenches out and you're right. There's a
lot of optimism, I think, especially from the fan base,
about what this defensive front can do. How do you

(09:23):
think Abdul Carter is going to get utilized as kind
of the joker rusher. I'll use that, you know, nomenclay
where you can be on the edge, he can be
lined up hand in the their defensive tackle, standing up
the linebacker. What kind of field have you gone for?
How they're going to utilize him.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
There's nothing you can't do with him, I think within reason.
You I mean, this is a guy who was an
off ball linebacker his first two years at Penn State
and then was perhaps the best pass russier in America
as a junior, which is a pretty impressive trick to turn.
And it's I mean, it makes the comparisons to Micah

(09:59):
Parsons pretty seamless because that was sort of what Micah did,
where Michael couldtaggle between being off the line and being
on the line. And so there's a million different things
you can do with him. You can move them around,
and I do think having Burns and Thibodeau gives them
the flexibility to do those sorts of things. You know,
Burns can play off the line as well. Sure, Thibodeau

(10:20):
has less experience doing it than the other two, but
I think you know, you can put him in some
interesting situations and so you know, I sort of view
it as like the inverse of when you have I
mean take like you know, take take an offense that's
got to move tight end and in a great passing
game back like what Detroit can do with Sam Laporta
and Jamier Gibbs when they when you break the huddle

(10:42):
in Detroit, you don't know where those two guys are
gonna line up, yea. I sort of view this as
similar where when the Giants break the defensive huddle, huddle,
they got to figure out where those guys are and
don't forget Dexter Lawrence as part of that equation either,
and you know they're going to be able to, I think,
do a lot to to to screw with offenses based

(11:05):
on what what the.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
What they have in their defensive front.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
And I think you know you you mentioned to me
the ultimate you know, trump card is is Dexter Lawrence, right,
because you have to get four hands on him. You
cannot block him one on one, and then that's going
to limit I think what offenses can do to account
for the moving pieces, right, because you have to have
four hands on Dexter Lawrence.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Right, And it's where's this guy coming from? Where's that
guy coming from? You can drop a couple of them,
you know what I mean. Like so, like Shane Bowen's
defense has always been pretty multiple, and there is definitely
some of like the old New England influence and just
having the flexibility to move guys all over the place.
And I do think, uh, you know, there are shades

(11:46):
of what Wink did a couple of years ago. Where
you're where you're where, You're able to move guys around
and do different things with different guys because different guys
can play different spots. And you know, the other thing
that should help there is what they hope is a
much improved secondary with you Paulton a Deebo and Javon
Holland coming aboard. And you know, it's just that their
defense is a really really interesting group because of just

(12:11):
the the versatility of all the players involved.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
Yeah, you know, I think you took the words out
of my mouth. I was going to say, you talk
about moving guys around up front. I think the additions
of a Deebo in Holland, especially Holland, now you have
two young, very intelligent safeties and Tyler Nuban and Javon Holland.
But I think it's gonna give Shane Bowen a chance
to do the type of disguising that a lot of
NFL teams are leaning into now right, show one thing
pre snap, then going to something else post snap. The

(12:35):
Giants should have the personnel on the back end to
do those types of things. When last year they were
so young, you we didn't want to throw too much
on these guys plates, right.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
You know, so I think I think seeing seeing that
like and seeing what they're going to be able to do.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Yeah, I mean one hundred percent is going to give
give them all, give them a lot of give them
a big library of things to draw from.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
How many times did people mention stopping the run to
you today when you talked about the Giants defense.

Speaker 4 (13:02):
Yeah, I mean, obviously that's a big deal.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
And like so, like all the stuff we're talking about
with Carter and with Thiboteau and with Burns, like that
stuff's not on void if the offense isn't second and five,
if the offense is in third and one, bingo, you know.
Like so it's fun to talk about all of that stuff,
but unless you can get them in those sorts of situations,
there's really not a ton you can do, you know,

(13:24):
so stopping the run is obviously a huge part of
it and unlocking what they're able to do with those
guys in the pass rush.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
All right, let's go around the league a little bit.
As you just mentioned, you visited twenty six camps over
the course of the last month. What's a team that
maybe you don't think enough people are talking about based
on talking to people with those organizations that maybe you're like,
all right, these guys are pretty confident about what they
have there.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
I mean, Denver, everybody's already beating them into the ground.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Just as far as like this quote unquote sneaky team
that could break through, I like, I don't think enough
people are talking about Houston cause I think Houston, if
they can get their offensive it's sort of interesting because
there's some similarity to hear and then if they can
get their offfensive line right.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
Do they know who the starters are?

Speaker 4 (14:02):
He had to know that we're still fighting through it.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Ursery like the tackle from Minnesota, it looks like he's
going to start as at right tackle? Is it left tackle?
Whereas Trent Brown's health, where's Cam Robinson's health? Like there's
a lot of questions. So that's a big if for them.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
But like I think everything else is sort of in order.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
There they have, you know, I mean Nico Collins, the
two kids from Iowa State, Knowle and Higgins, Christian Kirk.
You know, we'll see on Tank Delp. My guesses he
doesn't played this year, you know. And then you know,
Dalton shells a tight end and I think their defense
is maybe the best in the NFL with Will Anderson,
Daniel Hunter, Derek Stingley. Tamari Lasser is a young corner

(14:41):
that they think is almost as good as Stingley.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
So there's that group. Yeah, And then I say, the
other one is the Rams, And I again, it's hard
to kind of.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
Pluck teams that quote unquote no one is talking about.
But I'm not sure the Rams have gotten enough at tension.
And I think when you look at their roster, what's
really impressive about what they've done over the course of
the last you know, couple of years is turning it
over from a team that had a core of Jalen
Ramsey and.

Speaker 3 (15:07):
Aaron Donald and Aaron Donald and.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
You know, on the offensive side of the ball, Cooper
Cup and obviously Stafford's still there.

Speaker 4 (15:15):
But they're actually a young team especially crazy to think about.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
Yeah, but they've got all the guys on their front,
Jared Vers, Byron Young, you know, Kobe Turner, branden Fisk, like,
so you've got like this good, great base of young
talent on their defensive front, which is one of the
best in football, you know. And then on offense, Puganako
is young to to out well, still relatively young.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
Tyron Williams is still relatively young.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
Their offensive line has gotten better over the course the
last couple of years. Now, Alric Jackson is a big one,
just as far as keeping him healthy, and that was
a scary deal he had. But if Stafford is upright
and playing at a Matthew Stafford level, like I have
a hard time not seeing where that team that was,
I mean, toe to toe with the Eagles in a
snowstorm in the Divisional round last year, very easily could

(16:02):
have won that game. Isn't there in the end when
we get down to eight teams, maybe when we get
down to four teams, and I could see the Rams
making the Super Bowl, So that'd be another one.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
And looking I think it's a lot easier to break
through in the NFC, Right, but you stay at the
AFC and look at at Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes
and Lamar Jackson. I mean, you have some behemoths there, right,
And I even mentioned Joe Burrow. You mentioned the Broncos
with their great defense. The NFC, though, I mean, you
could make an argument, I think for a half dozen
teams as the team that's best in the conference.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
After Philadelphia, Yeah, I mean Philly, then you got I
would say, I mean Washington obviously coming off the twelve
one year ANFC title game. I mean, everybody but Chicago
and the North and Green Bays are in Troit, Green.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
Bay, Minnesota. Minnesota's loaded. If JJ can play.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
YEP at a top twelve to fourteen level like now,
that could be a super Bowl team.

Speaker 4 (16:52):
I mean, Tampa's won their division four years in a row.
And then the West.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
The Rams are there, like the Niners, as young as
they are, and they can't afford very many injuries, and
they've already had a bunch, but it's not hard to
vision a scenario where they are a lot better in
November December than they are in September. Seattle won ten
games in Mike McDonald's first year, Arizona's coming. I mean,
so there are lots of teams that are in that mix.
They don't have the superpowers, but there's a good amount

(17:18):
of teams that have reason to believe that they've got
a chance going into the year.

Speaker 1 (17:21):
If you want to know how to manage two minutes
of crunch time football, I'm your man. But if you're
wondering about a long term financial plan, you should talk
to citizens. Hey, I can also talk long care. I'd
like to learn about amuliar team. Yes, I knew I
could help make sense of your money with citizens.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
What's the formula for a team to keep the No
team has won the NFC East for more than point
consecutive year since two thousand and four and knocked the
Eagles off. How does that happen? I think that the
most talented team. They're really good.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
Yeah, I mean, I like Washington will be interesting because
I think Washington feels like they're a lot better.

Speaker 4 (17:56):
A lot of things broke their way last year though.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
And so close games for that, I mean, do you
have the breaks that they got last year? Sometimes that
stuff can swing back around. You have every reason to
believe in Jayden Daniels there's no reason not to believe
that that's going.

Speaker 4 (18:09):
To keep going and keep ascending. The offensive line should
be better.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
They bring in Tunsel and Connory from Oregon, who they
feel like was one of the ten best players in
the draft. They have McLaurin now back. For those who
didn't see it yet, the mclaurin's back now with deebo
and Jalen Lane, the rookie from Virginia Tech, you know,
the the the young running back that they have looks
like he can play, which made Brian Robinson expendable. And

(18:34):
then defensively, you know, the corner situation has gotten a
lot better and Trey Amos coming on board, Mikey Sanders
still coming into a second year, Marshawn Lattimore is healthy.

Speaker 4 (18:44):
Now, Like my one question where they're going.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
To generate the pass rush, So I'm not one like
is that going to be Is dan quinn going to
be able to find ways to generate a pass rush
based on the strength of their secondary, They're going.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
To get creative and doing that.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
You know with guys you know like Daron pay they're
very high and Javon kim Law comes over from the
Jets and was with San Francisco, but they're probably the team.
I mean, if you look at the other three in
the division, probably the team's got.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
The best shot to knock the Eagles off.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
And the Eagles, by the way, for whatever it's worth,
I didn't realize this. It didn't hit me until I
was there. But they're turning over like almost half their
starting lineup on defense, which a lot of people miss
that and think they're just running it back this year.
But there are a lot of new faces there, so
it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
And David they talking about turning over a defense and
turning into a young defense. They have a very young
defense now. They did Cooper dejene Quinea and Mitchell and
Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. No one's smith. They're all
young man.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
That's a good thing, you know. But they are replacing
some guys and they you know, Josh Sweat's gone.

Speaker 4 (19:46):
Brandon Graham's got, Milton Williams.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
Yeah, Milton Williams is gone, and the secondary Darius Slay's gone,
Johncey Gardner Johnson's gone. So there's a good amount of
players that played important roles for them last year that
they aren't there anymore. Again, it'st the Eagles, so I
think they'll figure it out. But that's not nothing.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
Final question, as you go around the league trends on
offense and defense that you've seen teams talk about schematically
in ways the league is turning on both sides of
the ball. What are some of the common threads that
you've heard from DC's OC's players around the league for
maybe what fans can anticipate seeing on the field this
year that might be a little different in terms of trends.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
Yeah, I mean, I think, like with on offense, it's
probably the positionless thing that I was talking about that like,
you know, and you use the word joker, like, I
think the idea of you know RJ. Harvey and Denver
Evan Ingram and Denver Traveon Henderson in New England. You know,
some of these guys that can be Jackson all trades

(20:44):
within offenses Tyler Warren and Indianapolis is gonna be really
really interesting. I think they're gonna snap the ball to
him some. So the idea of like positionless football and
moving guys around on offense, like, I think that's continuing
to grow. I mean defensively, it's just I would say, yeah,
a lot of the good teams, a lot of the

(21:05):
a lot of the best teams are really investing in
the secondary, which I think is interesting. Like Baltimore is
the one that sticks out in my head thinking about
because of what they've got. They got five first round
picks starting the secondary for them, Kyle Hamilton and Malchi
starts at safety, and then Marlon Humphrey, Nate Wiggins, and
Jye Alexander at corner. But you look at the investment

(21:28):
with a lot of the contenders, you know, and you know,
the Chiefs have been really good over the last few
years in the secondary, and now they're replacing Justin Reed.
But they're gonna pay Trent McDuffie. Whether it's this year
next year, I'd say probably next year.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
You know. I like the the you.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
Know, Buffalo is like now they paid Christian Benford and
they've continued to use draft picks in the secondary. You know,
the Eagles obviously, like the two young guys had such
a huge impact there. You mentioned Mitchell and Gene.

Speaker 4 (21:56):
I'd say.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
An interesting trend would be like to have a lot
of the best teams are really investing in their secondaries,
which I mean, I think that there's there's something there
just in it's not just having top shelf players. It's
like the depth across the board, even like Denver, like
they have two really solid I mean, the best corner
in football in Patrick's Houtam, but then opposite him they've

(22:19):
got Riley Moss who they feel great about, and yet
they're still taking Jedai Barren from Texas in the first round.

Speaker 4 (22:25):
There are lots of examples of that.

Speaker 3 (22:27):
Interesting, Albert, the floor is yours. Tell the folks where
to find all your great written audio and video content.

Speaker 4 (22:33):
Yeah, I like all the stuff at SI TV radio
all that. There are a million places you can find
now I'm not hard to.
