It's time to get inside the Giants. Let's go, Let's go,
Let's go out on the Giants. Moblo give Me So
June part of the Giants podcast.

(00:32):
Amani Tumor. The Giants went down to Philadelphia fell to
the Eagles thirty eight to twenty as the final score.
Big storyline though in this one Amani is of course
the Giants losing the battle of attrition. Cam Skataboo carted
off the field early in this game with a gruesome
dislocated ankle. He was taken to a local hospital for
further evaluation. Remains to be seen how severe that injury is.

(00:53):
They also came into this down several players Paulson, Adboat,
Javon Holland out, Cordial Flott was injured on the day
he left. The defensive backfield was so depleted. We saw
Corey Black getting his first NFL action, the player, the
seventh round draft pick who was just signed off of
the Jets practice squad earlier this week. When you look

(01:14):
at how banged up this Giant's team was, how significant
was injuries in this game, it was very significant.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
But this is why you have have to have a
deep roster, especially in the NFL this deep end of
the season, and it's only going to get worse in
terms of there's going to be more plays. There's like
ten nine or ten weeks left of this season and
there's a lot of football to be played. There's a
lot of people that are going to get opportunities to

(01:40):
show that they belong in the NFL. And if you're
on this team and you're sitting on the bench and
not in this situation that you want to be in,
I just wait a couple of weeks. That's how the
NFL works, and just be ready when your opportunity comes knocking.
And that's what That's the only thing I'd say to
these guys is like, you know, you got to keep fighting,

(02:01):
You got to keep paying attention.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
You can't check out.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
This is a it's a marathon in terms of the
length of the season, and you know this is this
is this is uh. You know, these are opportunities that
everybody needs to take advantage of.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Yeah, next man up mentality. And when you think about
taking those opportunities, first of all, you think about facing
the Philadelphia Eagles, one of the first things that comes
to mind is a tush push. Imani, we got to
talk about this toush push today. We saw a significant
moment in the game where the Eagles ran the tush
push on fourth and two. It looked like they were
trying to draw the Giants off side a little bit
that go for the play hurts kind of leaps over

(02:36):
the pile, the ball comes out. Kevon Thibodau comes up
with it, but the officials say that the whistle was
blown the play was dead due to forward progress. After
some conversation on the sideline, Davil throws a challenge flag.
You're not able to challenge the forward progress, but you
can challenge whether the ball came out on initial contact.
The place stood. The Eagles got the first down and

(02:59):
that train one Barkley's second touchdown of the day, but
that play continues to be one that is scrutinized for
a myriad of ways.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Yeah, I think as the NFL starts to see this play,
and you're going to start to see as it plays
itself out, you're going to start to see the inequality
amongst this play, the fact that the offense can can
get the momentum stopped and then the push part of
the tush push is what gives you the extra yards.

(03:27):
Most of the time, usually the quarterback stopped and then
you got players behind him pushing him, keeping his momentum forward.
But this momentum is already stopped. So you can't have
it both ways. You can't have the push part of
the tush push and not have the consequences of the
push and being and the ball security of it.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
So it's it's a complicated play.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
And I think as these types of rulings come down,
they already tried to take away They're already taking away
the off sides that the offensive line has been doing.
But now they're gonna have to start taking away the
forward progress. Think that will be ultimately be what kills
this tush push play. And it's just by the rules
of the game.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
How to get in here?

Speaker 3 (04:08):
If you're lined up here, you gotta go over the
middle with at the score great.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
How do we make that happen? I don't know, but
Citizens does?

Speaker 2 (04:17):
It makes sense of your money with Citizens Official Bank
of Eli Manning. It's tough too, because when you look
at the way the play was unfolding, Jalen Hurts isn't down.
He's on top of a pile of players, so he's
not down by contact. He's not down on the ground
when the ball comes out. It's a tricky one to
officiate and a moment that the Giants wish they could
have gotten back. Another one that the Giants wish they

(04:38):
could have gotten back later in the game. Fourth and eleven,
Jackson Dark goes deep hits Darius Slayton for what would
have been a sixty eight yard touchdown. Slayton making his
return after missing a couple of weeks with a hamstring injury.
Coming up with some big plays that were nullified, including
this one, they called it back for offensive pass interference
and money. As a Giants all time leading wide receiver

(04:59):
in this franchise, I need you to make it make sense.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
I don't know if you can call an offensive penalty
when the defender is grabbing your jersey, That to me
just doesn't seem right. So you're so if you're the
offensive player, to not be penalized, you have to let
the defensive player grab your shirt and pull himself back
into coverage position.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
That doesn't make sense.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
If somebody's trying to pull me, I'm going to push
them and then you're gonna That's why most of the
time when there's chicken fighting, they just let it go
because I don't think there was much of an advantage
that was gained by Slayton by putting his hand on
his on the chest on the on the defender's chest,
but the defender grabbed his arm initially, which prompted him

(05:45):
to put his hand on his chest to kind of
create some separation so he doesn't get grabbed even further.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
To me, I think it was a foul that should
not have been called.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
But you know, that's why they pay the rest the
big bucks, and I believe that. You know, when you
look over the play, maybe in real time you couldn't
really see it, but when you watch its slow motion,
you could tell that it was definitely a no call.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
It's a tough moment for the Giants. Indeed, as they
were trying to battle back, they were down in this
one early and the moments that they tried to press
it seemed like things weren't going their way. Another thing too,
I mean, these two teams just faced each other two
weeks ago Thursday Night Football. The Giants got an emphatic
win over the Philadelphia Eagles. And one point of success
for this Giants team is that they just allowed three
point eight yards per carry in the run game for

(06:30):
the Eagles. Eagles ran the ball in Week eight. They
had two hundred and seventy six rushing yards. They had
not one, but two different players with over one hundred
yards rushing. Saquon Barkley had one hundred and fifty yards
on the ground, Tank Bigsby one hundred and four. Saquon
had one hundred yards on the ground before halftime. This
was an impressive so the first time the Eagles have
seen two running backs over one hundred yards since twenty

(06:52):
thirteen when Shady McCoy and Bryce Brown did it together.
It's been a while since they've seen a running approach
from Philadelphia in that we haven't seen this kind of
execution in the run game from Philadelphia, and part of
that too. I think, you know, the Giants defense banged up.
You think of the run game, you think, okay, well,
the front seven, but it is an entire eleven man
defensive operation. When you consider the gap integrity required when

(07:15):
you've got some young guys playing in the backfield there,
how much does that affect the run game.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
There's the first level, which is usually the front seven,
the people that play inside the box. But then the
open field tackling of these safeties is why they're here.
They're there to kind of make up for any holes
or anything, and their tackling wasn't the same. And once
Saquon got through that first level of defense, it was
a very He had so much room that it would

(07:42):
be tough on that these defenders to kind of bring
him down. So I just felt like the team was
just a step off today and the Eagles, who probably
were embarrassed for the loss that they had earlier, were
not going to let wanted to emphasize the running game.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Especially with aj Brown being out.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
The Giants defense was still able to get pressure on
Jalen Hurts four sacks on the day, including one from
Brian Burns. Burns has had ten sacks on the season
through eight games. For perspective, his career high is twelve
and a half on a year. This man is on
pace to double up on that right now. But when
you look at the way the Giants pass rush is
working and it has become such a strength of this defense,
what have you seen there?

Speaker 1 (08:21):
I just see these guys are.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
I think the way this team is set up is
this team is set.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Up if they have a lead, they're dangerous.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
So you know, when these pass rushers can pin their
ears back and just go after the quarterback and not
have to worry about the run because of you know,
the Giants are ahead, and they become that much more effective.
I think last time when we played the Eagles that
once the Giants got the lead, it kind of played
into the hands.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
Of the Giants.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
They weren't able to run the ball because the Eagles
were so far behind on that Thursday night game to
and that the defensive line was really able to unleash
all their best pass rush moves.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
And today they had to worry about the run, and
the Eagles ran the balls more than effectively.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
It was a dominant almost three hundred yards rushing is
You're not going to win many games in the NFL
by giving up three hundred yards rushing. And plus you
have two running backs at average over ten yards of
carry and the whole team averaged eight point four yards
of carry.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
That means every time you get the ball, you're almost
at a first down.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
So that has to change in the future, and hopefully
the Giants will get more healthy and will be able
to be more assignment sound to not let those big
plays happen.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
If you want to know how to manage two minutes
of crunch time football on your match.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
But if you're wondering about a long term financial plan,
you should talk to Citizens.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
Hey, I can also talk long care. I'd like to
learn about an Mollia routine. Yes, I knew I could
help makes sense of your money with Citizens.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
We heard from quarterback Jackson Dart after the game, talking
at the podium to the media in Philadelphia. It was
perhaps the most dejected I've heard Dart after a game.
You know, a loss is not something anyone wants to see.
A loss when you know one of your best buddies,
Cam Scataboo's cart off the field is definitely an emotional
one thirty eight twenty is a final score in Philadelphia.
But also he heard him talking about how, you know,

(10:18):
I don't want to lose. I want to find ways
to win. And you know, for a young quarterback in
the National Football League who's had so much success at
the collegiate level, at the high school level, like this
is something that's new for him. Head coach Brian abele
Con praised how much fight and effort he's seen from
Dart and how he is continuing to make plays downfield
and give these receivers a chance. But when you look

(10:41):
at the position that Jackson Dart is in right now
and the development and the growth that we're seeing from
the rookie quarterback, what are your words for him?

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Everybody hates to lose, Like everybody hates to lose. Now,
you got to get over the fact that you're losing
because you're in the situation that you're in. This team
has deficiencies, this team is trying to find his identity.
This team is getting better, and so what you have
to do is work on things to help your team win.
Focus on the little little things that make you win

(11:11):
games as opposed to lose games. Everybody Nobody wants to
lose any in the NFL. Nobody wants to lose anywhere.
So I would say focus on learning all the nuances because,
like most people say, more games are lost in the
NFL than one, especially the game last week versus the Broncos,

(11:32):
that game was lost, not won by the Broncos. And
so learn the little intricacies that can like staying in bounds,
staying out of bounds, you know, saving your timeouts, not
taking a sack, throwing the ball away. All those little
things are going to be stored. It should be stored

(11:54):
in his memory banks to learn and grow from. So
there's gonna be a lot of new situations that you've
dealt with that in college don't mean anything in the
pros are everything.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
You know, getting in field goal range.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Those are the types of things that I feel like
he needs to focus on that and learning how to
adjust from the college game to the pro game.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
And one of the things that Tom Brady mentioned on
the call of this game on the television broadcast is
how beneficial he is to have Jackson dart is, to
have Brian Dable as a coach in this process because
of the way that Davill coaches the way that he
coaches a philosophy rather than a playbook. Hey, this is
what our goal is. This is the type of football
we want to play. Here are some plays. But if
this doesn't feel comfortable to you, let's find something and

(12:34):
curate something that does feel within your wheelhouse, that fits
our philosophy. A strong relationship between the quarterback and the
head coach. That is brewing. And as we heard from
Dexter Lawrence say, after this game, you know, listen, the
Eagles are headed into the by week. The Giants don't
have a buye until week fourteen, but Deck says the
benefit of a late season by is that the one
thing you want to do after a loss is get

(12:54):
back on the field, get another shot at playing another team.
The Giants are returning home playing and the San Francisco
forty nine ers at MetLife Stadium next week week nine,
and that's what they're going to be turning the page
two this week as they continue to look ahead. We'll
