Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good evening everybody, and welcome to Giants Schedule release Special
presented by United Official Airline of the New York Football Giants. Hello, everybody,
hope everyone's having a great Thursday.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
I am John Schweldt, joined by Paul Datino, talking Giants
before with you for the next two hours. Guys, big
show coming to you today. Well of Bob Papa, who
is at a golfa bank currently, but he'll join us
on the phone to talk a little bit about the Giants.
Will break down everything with the schedule, and we'll also
give you a look inside what happened at Rookie Mini
camp last weekend when we got our eyes on the
rookies for the first time.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Paull Theatino. Good evening, How are you, sir. I'm doing
very well.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
John. We've got the Shakira concert across the street at
YI Stadium. They're rocking it as loud as they possibly can.
You cannot hear the base from here, though, I think
when we go outside you might be able to. Oh
indeed you can.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
It wasn't going on with I couldn't hear it from
Route three driving in. I'm not sure if you could.
From seventeen Uh yeah, I came in through Munaki Road
and you could hear it from there, could hear it?

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Yeah, I'm not surprised. I've never been to a Shakira show.
Imagine she puts on a good show.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
Do you know who.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Shakira is, Paul, Yes, I do. How HEPSI commercials.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
She has been on TV okay lot, She's done a
lot of guest spots off color me impressed. Well, that's
legit good, really terrific talented crossover artist.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Wow, what's her got her?

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Greed?

Speaker 1 (01:22):
On the other side, I can't believe Paul's breaking out
Shakira here.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Uh but let's get to our schedule breakdown, brought to
you by Ryder University, an official higher education part of
the New York Giants. Uh So, Paul, we obviously knew
who the opponents for the Giants we're going to be
since the end of the regular season, So the schedule
and the release of that schedule has to everything to
do with how those games are lined up on the schedule. So, uh,

(01:46):
just to kind of set the stage for fans that
might not know this, the Giants have the toughest strength
of schedule heading into the twenty twenty five regular season.
You might ask, hey, John, in the NFL, aren't the
teams with the worst're supposed to have the easier schedules.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Yes, that's the design. But here's the problem with the
Giants this year. Only three games.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
On each year's schedule are determined by record. So you
play one division in the NFC, your own division in
the NFC if you're the Giants, then you play one
AFC division, and then you play the team that finished
in the same place that you did in the other
two divisions in the NFC, and then one AFC division
that rotates every year. So the giants three strength of

(02:31):
schedule determined games this year are the Saints, the Patriots,
and then, believe it or not, the San Francisco forty
nine Ers finish in last place last year, so those
are the three strength of schedule games. So the reason
that the Giants have the toughest strength of schedule is
quite simple. The NFC East is really good. The Eagles

(02:52):
and the Commanders both finished with double digit wins last year,
and the Cowboys, even though they had a down year
seven is still not terrible, so they were right in
the mix two. And then you're playing what you could
argue was the best conference in the league and the
best division in the league.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Easy to argue best division in the NFC.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
That's the NFC North, with three teams that made the
playoffs last year and a fourth in the Bears of
the new head coach and a first overall prick quarterback
and a lot of talented people on the roster. And
then in the AFC, the Giants at least are avoiding
the AFC North, which is probably the best division in
the AFC, but they got the second best division in
the AFC instead, they got the AFC West, which, as
Patrick Mahomes went to another Super Bowl last year, had

(03:31):
won the two previous The Chargers are very good, the
Broncos had a very good year last year, and then
you have the Las Vegas Raiders, who should be better
this year with Gino Smith as their starting quarterbacks. So
that's why the Giants had the tougher schedule. The reason
they buy last year's winning percentage have a tougher schedule
than both the than the Eagles and the Commanders is
that the Giants had to play those two teams with

(03:53):
better records. The Eagles and the Commanders have the Giants
in their schedules that drags they are winning percentage against
down the Giants gets raised.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
So that's where we're at. So Paul, people, I'm not
going to read the schedule.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
You guys can go look at Giants dot com, you know,
wherever you go to get to check out your NFL information.
But Paul, I kind of separate this in the pose,
and I think there are a few things that are interesting,
but we can go look big picture first here, eight
out of the first thirteen games on the road, and
the first two games road division games at Washington at Dallas.

(04:26):
Only twice since the merger have the Giants opened this
season with two consecutive divisional road games. And that was
all the way back in nineteen seventy five and nineteen
seventy six. I had not been born yet. I think
Paul's around thirty five. At that point he was he
was rock and roll, and I think I was his
twelve year covering the team in seventy five, Paul, so
he is a good recollection of that. I do not,

(04:46):
but it's been a long time since you've seen two
road division games to start the season.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
Again, Eight out of the first thirteen on the road,
which is certainly a challenge.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Actually, I do want to correct that. What's that nineteen
eighty four the Giants started with two road division games
the NFC East.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
I s stats and the stats that people told me
it was seventy five and seventy six.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Yeah, and in fact, who are the two games? Might
have to go back and look at eighty four.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
I had it.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
I'll look it up. You go ahead, I'll take it out.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Good look. Also, it's the first time they've got NFC
East battles in weeks one and two since two thousand
and nine, that's correct. I so that, and just the
third time since the year two thousand. Also, it will
be the first NFC East road opener since twenty nineteen.

(05:33):
And if Washington and Dallas seem to be very familiar
to you in September, that's because the Giants will have
played Washington and or Dallas within the first two weeks
of the regular season twelve times since twenty ten. And
do the math, this is only twenty twenty five. They
constantly stick them with either Washington or Dallas in the

(05:56):
first two weeks of the season. In this case, they
got both.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
How about that, you said eighty four, Paul, go back
to eighty four. They start with two home games in
the division Philly home versus Philly home versus Dallas. Then
at Washington is week three, So three divisional games to
start the year.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Yeah, the first two are home games. That's that's where
I messed up. That's I'm glad you caught me. No worries,
thank you.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
But again three straight and then you go back then
that thing it's about seventy five to seventy six. That
was just a fourteen game schedule, correct, No, seventy five
to seventy six. So obviously there are a fewer games
to choose from, but a difficult start.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
But I think what's.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Exciting about it is that one you hope you might,
you know, catch Washington before they get rolling Dallas as
a new coach, young offensive line. Two with the Giants passers,
maybe you can catch them a little bit early. Washington
also a lot of new pieces on the offensive line.
Larrymy Tunsel comes in, Brandon Coleman's probably going to be
moving changing positions.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
You know.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Sam Cosmy is coming off an injury too, we'll see
if he's gonna be back. So things to keep an
eye on in those first two weeks. But you know,
it doesn't get much easier. You get Week three home
versus the Chiefs, Week four home versus the Chargers.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Yeah, then you get a little bit of a reprieve.
You have you travel to New Orleans and the Saints.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Obviously they're a really good franchise, but they have an
issue a quarterback right now. Derek car announced its retirement
last week. You could have Tyler Shook there, you could
have Spencer Rattler there. It depends who that ends up being.
So that's a little bit of a reprieve. And then
which I was really surprised by Paul, because usually the
NFL likes to try to set up these games against

(07:28):
division opponents later in the year.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Correct, you set up two out of three against the
Philadelphia Eagles with a game at Denver in between. Very
strange to see in your first eight weeks four of
your divisional games out of your six. You do not
see that very often, and I actually think that's a
very bad thing for the Giants, see because when you're

(07:53):
a team that's trying to climb up the ladder, you want.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
As many of your divisional games as possible. Later on
in the season because you hate to scoreboard watch. You
don't know what's going to happen in the beginning of
the year. But as you're in the middle of the
schedule and then coming down the home stretch, you'd at
least like to play games where you know you can
impact the standings and the tie break.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
You want to control your own destiny without a doubt.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Correct, yes, you know. I had a big argument with
Matt on the show today on Giants dot Com on
big Wood kick Off Live Herd every weekday from twelve
thirty pm till one thirty pm Eastern Time. I had
a big argument with him today about it. If he
did not understand that concept. I said, Matt, please take
a seat here for a second and understand that if

(08:36):
you're trying to make a stretch run, you're trying to
make up ground. You don't want to have to scoreboard
watch every week. You'd rather beat the teams in your
division knowing that you were automatically making up ground. He
didn't understand that concept.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
I do kind of like those first two division games,
you can kind of set the tone for the season
if you can just split and get one of that that's.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Where he was countering with. And if you lose those
first two games, not only are you owing two, but
you're row and two in the division at ure is
a big hole.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
With your next two divisional games against the Eagles not good,
it makes winning one of those first two games pretty important.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
How about almost mandatory.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
So once you get past that great stretch. Oh, by
the way, it's not just three tough games in a
row home versus Philly on the Thursday. And that's by
the way, they're primetime games.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
It's Kansas City Sunday Night, September twenty first, Eagles October ninth,
the Thursday I mentioned, that's at home.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Those are two of the primetime games.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
The last prime time game is attempt December first, Monday
Night at New England. You got at Denver on the nineteenth,
October twenty sixth at Philly. Then you get to the
host of the Savages go forty nine ers on November two.
Oh and then, by the way, you get to play
three consecutive games against NFC North teams at Chicago home
versus Green Bay at Detroit. So in seven consecutive weeks
you get teams that made the playoffs last year except

(09:55):
for two. Chicago we expect to be a lot better
this year and San Francisco, who have not for injuries
last year, been a perennial Super Bowl contender for the
last four or five years before that.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
Yeah, and let's kind of throw in there. The Giants
don't have a bye till Week fourteen. We're getting there,
so s means you're gonna have to go through the
gauntlet first.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
After that stretch.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
I mentioned the Monday night game on December first. They
get a bye week December seventh, so you get a
late bye. No holiday games for the Giants this year
for people like Paul and I, well, at least more
for me. I think Paul's wife likes to get him
out of the house and doesn't have to deal.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
With She wishes they played every day, Yes, correct, she.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Does, but happy to have the chance to be with
the family.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
We've played on either Christmas or Thanksgiving each of the
last three years, so I'm happy that schedule makers. Thank you,
Mike North and all the guys over there at the
league office for not making us play in the holidays.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
And then you close the season.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
Paul with three out of four at home home versus
Washington December fourteenth, home versus Minnesota December twenty first, who knows. Again,
it's tough to really predict these types of games. You
don't know what these teams going to look like late
in the year. At Las Vegas on the likely potentially
Saturday or Sunday between Christmas and New Year's and then

(11:04):
you have Dallas to be determined. Obviously, you never know
that last week has always get scheduled on the fly
at home for the Giants to close out the year.
So you do get two out of the final four
games against the NFC East.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
So it's funny you get in the middle of the.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Year, Paul, six weeks five games without a game against
the NFC East, which is a pretty long stretch.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
It really is. Now on the other side, some of
the positive things about this deal is that three of
the first four games are at home. Yep, and that's
kind of nice place.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
Three of the first four, no, three of the first
three of the final four, three of the final four
yes first yes, yes, yes, yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
First four, final four I'm thinking NCAA tournament. Three of
the final four games are home. So that's a good
thing for the travel purposes, right, You don't want you
guys to be kind of legging and Dragon at the
end of the season all banged up.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
And Vegas won't be a weather game either, because that's
a dome.

Speaker 3 (12:01):
The only bad weather implication on the road is New
England on December first. It's a night game, yes, but
the three be nasty.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
But the three games in MetLife Stadium in December and
January could also be nasty. You can't control that, you cannot,
but but the road games you can.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
Well.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
Lee controls that by sending you to a place that
might not be very good. And Foxborough on December first
at night has the potential of being nasty. Yes, that
could be bad, but that's it.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
But yeah, you don't have the Bears at the end
of December, which is a game that you know could
really be Washington. Washington can because even Denver can get
really coold when you get into the Cember.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
So that's kind of good, all right. I kind of
like that, all right. I also wrote down here eleven
games set for the standard start time of Sunday at
one o'clock pengdit flex scheduling.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
And they are very liberal with flex scheduling. Now, and
what I was surprised by Paul. You bring a good
point with that. The Cowboys game is at one o'clock
in the Tumber fourteenth, not for twenty five. The Eagles
game on October twenty sixth is one o'clock, not for
twenty five. And the two West Coast teams coming to
the Giants actually two and a half. I don't know

(13:12):
how you want to count the Hey yeah, no, no,
no two, the Chargers and the forty nine ers that
are coming east to play the Giants, they have to
play at one o'clock Eastern time. A lot of times
they try to put those West Coast teams at four o'clock.
So those are some of the one o'clock games that I,
frankly was a little bit surprised about. Usually Eagles and
Cowboys with the ratings those games do a lot of

(13:33):
times they're either primetime or they're four to twenty five games,
So maybe those move willf to wait and see.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
Yeah, remember the flex scheduling doesn't only affect the primetime,
but it also can move on one o'clock or to
four to thirty.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Well Week two, no that Week two Dallas game of them? No, well,
say week week two, there's no flex scheduling yet, so
that'll be locked in noon Dallas time one New York Times.
Philly can move on October twenty six. That's correct, yes,
and so could San Francisco on November two.

Speaker 3 (13:59):
In theory one thing the.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
NFL tries their very hardest not to do, and even
Green Bay Bay is also one o'clock, which is surprising Bay,
New York. That could be a four o'clock game.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
Too, anyway, it depends on how good the Gypts are.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
Correct.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
The league always tries to avoid giving a team three
game road trips, and the Giants did not get one
of those. It does happen sometimes they try really hard
not to hand those out.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
They do have back to back road games three times though,
that they do, which remember too, it's an unbalanced schedule now,
so they have nine road games only eight home games,
so you're gonna.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Have more road games on the schedule now.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
One other item that I really liked was simply put
three primetime games, which, as John and I have discussed
on other shows, they can really discombobulate your schedule. We'll
love the three primetimers. Two of them are home, which
makes life a lot more easier for the players and
the coaches, and the road primetime game is only in Foxborough,

(14:56):
it's not across the time zone.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
More importantly, it's the Monday game. And you know what,
the week after that is the bye.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
Yes, so that you do not have a short week
after your Monday night game, which is a huge advantage
that that people talk about the Thursday game and how
that's inconvenient. The Monday night game with the travel and
you get back on a Tuesday, you don't feel right
again until like Wednesday, Thursday.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
Especially if you have to go out west. That's correct,
And the Giants do have remember two West Coast games,
Denver and Las Vegas. That goodness that the Giants didn't
have to get stuck with one of those games as
a primetimer.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
I think Denver considering Denver West Coast, has a little
bit of liberal.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
You're crossing time zones, correct there.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
Well, if you're not on the Pacific times though, And
I'm not gonna call your West Coast all right.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
That's fair, that's fair, that's fair. But the coaches will
still tell yes, any they lose stinks.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
What is that like a four hour flight to Denver?

Speaker 3 (15:50):
You know what, I can't remember we haven't been there
with a long time.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Probably similar to Dallas, I would imagine, right, it's probably
around the same at long post.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
Maybe a little bit long.

Speaker 1 (15:58):

But in the meantime, let's go to the phones at
eight eight eight eighth eight one zero one nine.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
Let's go to Jimmy in Newton. He's gonna leave us
off today. Jimmy, what's going on?

Speaker 5 (17:02):
Yeah, Hey, how you guys doing a big fan first time?

Speaker 4 (17:05):
Long time.

Speaker 5 (17:07):
Not conducive to the time, you know at twelve thirty.
I just wanted to Paul double down today. He's all
about not having too you know, divisional opponents. First, I
totally agree with sidetecking the podcast. I mean, on the
huddle the other day, Schmelkad took you two minutes to
you know, kind.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
Of see his perspective.

Speaker 5 (17:28):
But I mean, they got a scheme for a brand
new defense. You know, you never know what's going to happen.
You don't think, you guys, you don't think they could
steal one.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
I think, let me put it this way, generally, speaking Jimmy,
I don't like playing division games early.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
I like to have just in general, just around the league.
Giants put aside, this is.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
A philosophical point.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
I like to have.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
Both the divisional teams playing their best, having already discovered their.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
Identity when they play.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
But from the fine specific perspective, the one thing I
will buy what Sytak was selling in he's mentioning our
show Big Book kickoff live on the Giants app and
the Giants YouTube channel every weekday A twelve thirty that
I do like catching Dallas early this year. Whenever you're
catching a team that is a new coach and two
new coordinators, I think it's better to catch them early

(18:20):
in the year. I don't like week one because then
they can surprise you a scheme stuff. At least you'll
have one week of video on them and they're still
figuring things out. So I do like getting Dallas in
week two. I don't see much of an advantage in
getting Jayden Daniels and the Commanders with Cliff Kingsbury and
everyone coming back for the Commanders in week one, they're
really good. You're in their building. It's a tough game,

(18:42):
but I do see the advantage in getting Dallas earlier
in the year because you hopefully they will still be
trying to figure things out when you get them.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
On this gut yeah, no doubt and carl it. What
you have to remember is the Willington Marrath theory was
always expect the worst and hope for the best. So
if you go buy that theory and again generally fillosophically speaking,
you are better with your division games later on in
the season. There's no question about that. I told Matt
today he was into the forest way too far and

(19:09):
he couldn't see the trees. And in all honestly, that's
the case here. Because you can talk all you want
about the individual games in the matchup specifically right now.
You can if you want to, But this is a
philosophical point. And what it comes down to is this,
if you go into it with the Wellington Marath theory,

(19:30):
which is always below the most reasonable theory you could have.
You go in here and you lose those first two games. Okay,
you are now not just going too, but you're always
too in the division and that is a hole that
you do not want to have to crawl out of.
That is a bad, bad recipe for disaster.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
And of course jammybe all say this, we have no
idea who's gonna be healthy for these things at the
start of the year. And this is why judging the
sched and I should have said that the opening segment,
judging this, and I will quote our cohort Lance Meta
on this one. You don't though who's going to be
healthy and who's gonna be on the field when you
play any of these teams. And that's all luck. I
go back to oh man, I forget what year was.
This must have been back in like twenty fourteen. There

(20:09):
was this terrible stretch of games, and it turns out
that Aaron Rodgers hurt, Scott Tolzen was starting a quarterback
with the Green Bay Packers, and you play played a
couple of these backup quarterbacks and the schedule and them
not being that bad because these guys weren't on the field.
So until we know what these teams look like when
the Giants face them, you're not gonna know.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
And there's so much change from year to year. Some
teams are good one year, not so good the next. Now,
the funny thing is last year, for the first time
all the division winners had made the playoffs the previous season,
which is something that really had not happened very often,
so it was more consistent. But look, one of these teams, Jimmy,
that we think is gonna be really good, the Giants
are gonna face They're gonna end up being bad. One
of the teams we think are gonna be bad, they

(20:48):
could probably end up being good. That's just been unpredictable
to the NFL.

Speaker 3 (20:51):
You know what I mean, the season to start, you
could have somebody hurt in the preseason or training camp
that immediately impacts one of these early.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
Who is the player he popped? As are Darius Washington
for the Ravens, the safety popped his achilles in conditioning, Right,
go ahead, Jimmy.

Speaker 5 (21:07):
I was just saying, excuse me, you don't think like
catching Daniels, Prescott, Mahomes, and Herbert. Those guys don't play
preseason games. Those guys are barely ramping up at the point.

Speaker 1 (21:18):
You know, Andy Reid is pretty good about getting his
guys ready early.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
He plays them and he gets them ready.

Speaker 2 (21:25):
You know, it's a good question about Jayden, it's a
good question about Jade and Daniels. My guess is that
Cliff Kingsbury is gonna have some new stuff in week
one that you're not going to expect. Is because he's
such a good offensive. Mind the Chargers, you get the
week four, you're kind of flowing at that point. I
wouldn't consider that. I mean a week four.

Speaker 1 (21:42):
I think by week four you're doing pretty good. Are
you there yet? Maybe not, but I think you're getting
pretty close. I see what you're saying.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
But again, you could put other good teams in the
fourth four weeks and not have two of the mean
division road games. I just don't like the two division
road games.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
Like if you want, if you know this, switch Chavi,
if you wanted to switch out Commanders in Dallas and
slide in the brought the forty nine Ers and the
Bears or something like that, like that would have been fined. Again,
it's just more of a philosophical.

Speaker 4 (22:11):
Oh, I gotcha. Well one more thing, And.

Speaker 5 (22:13):
What do you think about the uh they're playing five
out of the six quarterbacks drafted last year? You know
in the first round, right that you know someone's gonna
have a sophomore slump in there?

Speaker 3 (22:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (22:26):
No, they could. And look, I think you go back
to what se.

Speaker 4 (22:29):
And the ones. A rookie, you know pretty much, Karthy excuse.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
Me, no, no, no, absolutely, And look you go back
and two years ago everyone thought and I was one
of them. I thought he could be possibly the offensive
player of the year CJ Straud last year and he
ended up having a step back year in year two.
So you could have that for any of those rookie quarterbacks. Jimmy,
you're absolutely right and appreciate the call. You look at
those young quarterbacks. You don't know what Caleb william is yet.

(22:55):
You don't know what he's going to be with a
new coach and new cornet, new weapons. I think he's
gonna be good, But you don't know Dak Prescott in
the new system. But you do have Justin Herbert on
the schedule with the same coach. You have Patrick Mahomes
with Andy Reid, who they've been together forever. You have
Jalen Hurts with Nick Sirianni. They're still there rock and roll. No,
Kellen Moore, I get that he left, he went to

(23:16):
the Saints, but Sirianni is still there.

Speaker 1 (23:19):
You still have BONICKX with Sean Payton with the Lions.
You have Love with Lafloor. You have GoF with Campbell
but new offensive coordinator. Yes, so that's a little bit different.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
And then you have you mentioned McCarthy, but Kevin O'Connell's
really good coach. And you have Pete Carroll with Gino Smith,
who obviously you are very familiar with each other. So
the thing that kind of and then I didn't even
mention Kyle Shanahan and Rock Purty.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
I's got that one by accident. Yes, I think what
jumps out to me about the schedule is, my goodness, Paul,
the level of head coaches on this schedule.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
It's ridiculous, is off the charts. And this is I've
never seen anything like this. Look, folks, Dan Quinn good coach.
You don't know about Shottenheimer yet, Andy Reid hall of famer.
Jim Harbaugh potential to be a Hall of Famer. Not
there yet, he isn't one yet, but a chance. Then
you go to Syrian who's won a Super Bowl, Sean

(24:13):
Payton who's awesome, Shanahan who's terrific. You don't know Ben
Johnson yet. Lafleur's proven to be a really good coach,
Dan Campbell really good coach, and then you have Kevin O'Connell,
who's a really good quarterback guru, Pete Carroll in Vegas.
My goodness, the level of coaches on this schedule is
it just so happens what the divisions are playing.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
It's crazy, very reminiscent of the late eighties when Parcells
was coaching the Giants, Oh with Gibbs, and you had Gibbs,
you had wallsall Dick. I mean, it just kept the.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
List of coaches and he didn't go back, go back
to eighty sixy of Landry still with Dallas at that point, right,
I mean, you know every week.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
Parcells was going up against a mastermind, and of course
he was on his way to becoming a mastermind, no question.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
But you do get a couple of rookie coaches in
there too, the Patriots obviously with their rookie coach, and
Dallas with their first.

Speaker 1 (24:58):
Time head coach, and the Saints with Kella Morris. You
do have rookie coaches along the way.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
And for Ben Johnson Ashleys, it's funny either like top
of the market potential Hall of Fame coaches or new
bore or newbies, which which is kind of funny, all right,
let's welcome in the voice of the Giants, Bob Papa,
who's working a golf tournament Birmingham, Right, Bob?

Speaker 1 (25:15):
Is that where you're at?

Speaker 4 (25:17):
We are here in Birmingham, Alabama for the first major
of the year for the PGA Tour champions and the
region's traditions. So yeah, it's pretty excited to be here.
We had an unbelievable day yesterday because they have the
pro am. He had Bo Jackson, Charles Barkley, Hugh Freeze,
Nick Saban, Kellen de boor, Kirby Smart, you name him.

(25:42):
They were all here, Greg mclroy, Larrol much John.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
Why the Howard Cross? Come on? Howard Howard in Alabama?

Speaker 4 (25:50):
Yeah, he loves golf, but I'm not sure he's a
big enough name to play them.

Speaker 1 (25:55):
It's Fuddy Bob.

Speaker 2 (25:55):
I was wondering why Barkley was on inside the NBA
two nights ago. Now I don't wow.

Speaker 4 (26:01):
Oh yeah, he never misses this event. I mean, they
had ten thousand people on property yesterday and it was
absolutely insane. And you know, it's a PGA Tour champions
event on the week of a major championship on the
regular tour. But this thing is it's insane here in Birmingham,
and they were off to a really good start because

(26:23):
we've got tremendous leaders on top of the leader board,
so it's gonna be a lot of fun. So we're
enjoying our time here in Birmingham.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
Our interview with Bob Papa is brought to you by
Slumman's The Difference is Human. All right, Bob, you saw
the schedule like the rest of us coming out on
Wednesday night. Your thoughts on what you saw on what
kind of jumped out at you?

Speaker 3 (26:43):
Oh my god.

Speaker 4 (26:44):
The Giants have to play two road games against this
Commanders and Cowboys to start the year. They're gonna be
owing two and then they got the cheese. They're gonna
be owing three, and they're gonna be owing four when
they played the Chargers. Shut up, listen. The Giants were
a Elik Neighbors drop pass and an injured ticker away

(27:06):
from beating the Commanders last year. And do we know
what kind of head coach Bryan Schottenheimer is gonna be?
We know what the Cowboys are gonna be. The Cowboys
that much better than the Giants. I don't know. They
might be, but they may not. Be new coordinators too, right,
new coordinators Matt eber Flus. I know he's a good DC,

(27:26):
but whatever, listen, it is what it is. We can
all worry about it right now. And for all those
Giant fans that keep adding me on x about how
could Tina had three wins last year have the hardest
schedule in the NFL, dude, go to Giants dot com.

(27:46):
I can tell you what the Giant schedule. They can
tell you what the Giants schedule is going to be
in two thousand and thirty. It's a rotation. Okay, it's
a rotation. It's it just so happens to be your
your straightest. Is really difficult because the Commanders made the playoffs,
the Eagles won the Super Bowl, and they had an
unbelievable record. You're playing the North, which had two fourteen

(28:10):
win teams last year, and you're playing the AFC West
that had playoff teams last year of them, so like relax,
it's based off last year. It has nothing to do
with what's going to happen this year. So you take
them as they come and you knock them down them.
You see what you see and you have no idea

(28:30):
what the injury levels are going to be of teams
and who's going to get hurt and whatever. So yeah,
it looks hard on paper, but you know, there's a
reason why every season we spend most of December talking
about the teams that made the playoffs last year that
won't and the new teams that make the playoffs every

(28:51):
year in the NFL, So they get for what it is.
It is what it is, But I wouldn't worry about
it too much.

Speaker 3 (28:58):
In maydd. The one thing that a lot of coaches
do worry about is where they're going to get their
buy The Giants wind up with a bye in Week
fourteen this season. Far for me, that's a little late,
to be honest. I kind of like it to be
like week ten if I could get it and had
my druthers your thoughts on the fourteen that's terrible.

Speaker 4 (29:19):
I was talking to John marrat two nights ago at
the Boys Hope Girls Hope of New York event in
New York City, Division of Hope, and you know, the
buye is coming way too late. I mean, no one
wants to buy where their bye is. I mean, you
have four games left in the season before you have

(29:41):
your bye. It's it's not ideal. Nobody, there's nobody in
the world that would sign up for that.

Speaker 3 (29:47):
But it's too late to make an at that point,
you know, it's really late.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
No, it is what it is.

Speaker 4 (29:52):
But if you're a Giants fan, I don't know what.
I don't know what this season is going to bring.
But I think if you're any Giant fan at this
point in time, with four games to go in the season, right,
so that means you've played thirteen games of your seven
gen games. If you're sticks and seven through thirteen games,

(30:17):
and you have a buye and you have four games
left to play, and you have a chance at that
point in time to insert yourself in a wild card race,
whether you make it or not, I think any Giants
fan would sign up for that. And I think yeah,
And I think if the Giants go into those into
their buy a game below five hundred, a game above

(30:41):
five hundred, and you say, Okay, we're gonna roll the
dice now and see how these last four games turn out,
which are not the worst four games, you could possibly
have three home games down the stretch, Yeah, three of
the four home games, and say, hey, if you win
three of these you're gonna make the playoffs at nine
and eight. If you win all four, you're going to

(31:02):
definitely make the playoffs. I think any Giant fan would
sign up for that. I think John, you and I
have talked about this off the record. I think the
Giant organization is just hoping that when you go Christmas
shopping and you're planning tor the holiday parties, that you're

(31:22):
at a Saturday night holiday party and you're excited for
the game the next day, saying that, man, if we
can win this one, to give us one step closer
to maybe making the playoffs, that's all you want. You
just don't want to be eliminated before you go trick
or treating, and you don't want to be eliminated before Thanksgiving.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
Yeah, you want to be sitting there with your turkey
leg in your hand, talking about how the Giants can
make the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (31:46):
So that's what you want, Yeah, and.

Speaker 4 (31:48):
Guessing about how they can and and if you get
to that buy and you get to those last four games,
and however it shakes out, you win two of the four,
but maybe it's it's not good enough to get in.
At least every Giant fan on the planet will feel like, Okay,
we're trending in the right direction. And here's the one

(32:09):
or two eras that have to be tightened up via
free agency in the next draft to elevate us to
become like a force in the division and start challenging
in the division. Everybody will sign up for that, all right, Bob,
somebody will sign up for that, no question.

Speaker 2 (32:24):
Put your play by play man headset on. You could
take all of the circumstances into consideration here, selfishness, wherever
you want to look at in terms of like what's
good for you anything? What game are you most looking
forward to calling, Bob, Papa Giants play by play guy
looking at the schedule, Well, it's the home opener.

Speaker 4 (32:45):
Okay, you got the Kansas City Chiefs and you've got
Spags coming in and boom, here we go. Like you know,
like everyone's like, oh, the Giants will be going too,
Like how.

Speaker 1 (32:56):
Do you know, No, nobody knows.

Speaker 6 (32:58):
How do you know?

Speaker 4 (32:59):
Like, is Dallas that much better than you based on
what I mean? Yes, they have owned the Giants, and
they have owned the Giants in Dallas and Washington will
be tough. Okay, I got all that, but it's not
like it's completely out of your reach because I think
the Giants are a way better football team now than

(33:22):
the team that left the field in the final game
of the regular season last year. But look, you got
Spags coming back, you got the homes, you got Sunday
night primetime game is gonna be awesome. Then you have
that Eagles twice in three weeks. I mean, that's going
to be intriguing, right, But who knows? I mean, who

(33:44):
knows what Philadelphia. I'm not saying that they're not the
class of the division, but let's take our chances with
all that, you know. I'm looking forward to it, man,
I want to see the Giants play the Chargers. I
want to see what that looks like. I don't know.
I'm just I look at the schedule as an opportunity.
I don't look at it as a negative.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
Oh yeah, yeah, how about this bother. Let me follow
this way.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
Of all the road games. You know, we've been to
all these stadiums at this point, we've been in every
one of these boots. I'm not I don't travel every
week anymore. The game i'd be excited about is going
to Denver, just because we only get to go there
once every eight years. We were recently in Vegas, we've
been there before. I'd be punted about going to Denver.
You know, it's just a state. We don't get to
see a lot. It's a really good atmosphere. It's a
good place to call a game. They got a good team,
showing Payton that that's a game that I think, just

(34:30):
travel wise and doing a game in a fun place
like that at four o'clock in Denver, that should be
a pretty fun atmosphere.

Speaker 4 (34:38):
Yeah, that should be. Look, I'm looking forward to that.
Sean Payton, you know, bone Knicks, they got a good team, Dots.
You know what, here's how I know that there's people
in the media that follow what you say and what
we say. Okay, Pauli Dotts and I were sitting in
the Giants Cafeturea the day before the schedule came out.
He was doing bb he was doing VBK Live and

(35:01):
he goes, all right, what do you think, Bob, what
do you think? Gut feeling, I said, I believe the
Giants going to open up the season on the road
at Denver against the Broncos on Monday night. Really because why,
I said, Well, think about it. Sean Payton has ties
for the Giants. They're coming off a playoff year. You
got bone Nicks, and then you have Russell Wilson, the

(35:25):
former quarterback of the Broncos who projected to be the
starter for the Giants, said that would be a sexy
Monday night matchup. Paul's like, can I use that on BBK? So, Paul,
I'm assuming you threw that out there on V I
sure did.

Speaker 3 (35:39):
I sure did. I concurred with your logic. It made
a lot of sense to me.

Speaker 4 (35:42):
Well, by the way, how many writers picked up on
saying sources, I'm hearing the Giants are going to open
up at Denver.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
Funny.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
A bunch of them did, but a lot of them.

Speaker 4 (35:56):
So that means they were watching BBK and they were listening,
and you and I were just kind of spitball on it.
I know, and I also and I also said I
would not be shocked if the Giants play the Patriots
on Thursday Night Football. Early in the season, I thought,
like Week three, Week four, at the Giants in primetime,
Giants Patriots, the Super Bowls, the whole thing, Drake May

(36:18):
year two. Now we are getting them on Thursday Night.
But it's later in the year. I really thought that'd
be earlier in the year. I was.

Speaker 1 (36:26):
Close enough. Monday Thursday, same deal.

Speaker 4 (36:29):
Yeah, but it's a primetime game.

Speaker 3 (36:30):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (36:32):
I thought it would be an early season Thursday night
game because we don't know what the Patriots are going
to do, and we don't know what the Giants season
arc would look like. And I thought Amazon Prime would
want a New York game early. So I was wrong
on that one. But it's amazing how many of the
people that cover the Giants listen to Paul Datino on

(36:54):
BBK and started connecting dots and suddenly reporting hearing Giants
Bronco was week one.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
And that was not only was it spitballing, Bob between
you and I when when we were throwing it out
there on the show, we were just talking about things
we'd like to see. We weren't even telling people that
we have a gut feeling or that, you know, we've
got some crumbs that indicate this could be happening here.
That that was just what I got right exactly. My
gut feeling was that made up.

Speaker 4 (37:24):
I thought there'd be two Monday night games to start
the season. I thought the Giants and Broncos would be
a perfect fit for the second Monday night game.

Speaker 3 (37:31):
They're all closet fans, and that probably wrong. That's all.
It comes down to, the closet fans.

Speaker 4 (37:35):
I was I was wrong. I was I was wrong. Hey. Look,
you know, like look at the Saints game later in
the year, right, I mean so going going in New
Orleans has been a all you've lived it, smelk, you
were producing most of these broadcasts on site. Going to
New Orleans has been an absolute disaster for the Giants.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
Night before it is fun. The games have not been
very fun though, correct.

Speaker 4 (38:01):
But you look at this, You look at this Saints team,
and you look at their quarterback room right now. You
can't wait to get to New Orleans to play the same.

Speaker 3 (38:13):
Drew Brees walking through that door.

Speaker 4 (38:16):
That is true. Yeah, yeah, so you know, listen, I'm
I'm intrigued by it. I'm fascinated by it. I can't
wait for it to start. I can't wait for the
Week one game in Washington against the Commanders. They're a
good team and Jayden Daniels is a good player, and
he's one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL. But like,

(38:39):
I'll take my chances against Washington. You know, let's go,
let's let's let's bring it Bob.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
In our second hour, we're gonna focus on the rookie class.
You have sixty seconds. Just give me your feel seeing
the giants, rookies in the building for the first time,
putting the helmets in uniform on.

Speaker 4 (38:56):
Oh, you guys can co sign this. I mean, we
around for a while and it's been a long time
since they were A rookie class has energized the building.
I think you got to go back to Saquon when
they even though that look. I know there's a lot
of giant fans that are saque the haters as far
as why they took him where they did, and probably

(39:18):
was a mistake to take them when they took them.
But Take One brought energy. Odell brought energy, and this
rookie class has changed the dynamic and that building. Not
it's Carter, it's a quarterback. It's what they drafted in
the third round, it's what they got in the fourth round.

(39:40):
This is the first time in a long time that
the draft class has energized the building, from the people
that sell suites to marketing to everything in between. And
I think it's I think it's really cool to what
they've done with the draft, and it really feels like
for once the draft fell there. And we all know

(40:01):
about the Kadarius Tony draft where and other drafts where
the drafts have gone sideways for the Giants or it
didn't fall the right way, it feels like it fell
in their direction. And I'm bringing this perspective from people
that I've talked with that do not work for the Giants,
that works for other teams. Because I do a show,
I'm serious, so I speak to people around the league,

(40:22):
and unanimously there's a lot of people that work in
the front office of other teams around the NFL that like, damn,
that draft fell perfectly for the Giants.

Speaker 2 (40:32):
Yeah, a lot of times it takes some luck. Bob,
enjoy the tournament, my friend. Good talking to you is
always stay safe. To see up here in a couple weeks.

Speaker 4 (40:38):
See soon, all right.

Speaker 1 (40:40):
Pauli Dott.

Speaker 4 (40:41):
Next time we talk in the cafeteria, We're gonna send
those beat writers in the wrong direction again. I love it.

Speaker 1 (40:46):
Voice of the Giants.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
Bob Poppa coming to us from Birmingham, Alabama, joining us
on the Giants schedule. Release special. That interview with Bob
was brought to you by Sloman's. The Difference is Human.
All right, let's take a quick time out right here
on the show. We'll come back, and we'll come back
have a little roundtable feature before we wrap up the hour.
Right here on the fan, we're back on the Giants

(41:10):
schedule at Least special presented by United Official Airline of
the New York Giants, johnsh Belt, Paul Thattino, if you will,
taking your calls at eight eight eight eight h eight
one zero, one to nine, it's time for our roundtable discussion,
brought to you by Sloman's. The Difference is Human, Paul,
I got three Factor fiction questions for you here.

Speaker 1 (41:25):
You're ready to go, Let's do it all right.

Speaker 2 (41:26):
Next hour, we're gonna do a lot of rookie minicamps,
so stay tuned for that as well and more of
your calls, Paul, Factor Fiction. The toughest four game stretch
in the Giants schedule is the first four games of
the schedule.

Speaker 1 (41:37):
Fact or fiction.

Speaker 3 (41:39):
I've got to go fact here, you're talking about three
playoff teams from last year with the Commanders, the Chiefs
and the Chargers and the Cowboys. Well, let's face it,
even if you want to talk about them being a
sub five hundred team, we know they had a lot
of injuries. They've got more talent than that. And oh,
by the way, over the past decade, John, they've pretty
much owned the in the rivalry. So for those reasons, yeah,

(42:03):
I'd have to go there. I will say you could
make a somewhat good case if you wanted to for
the Eagles, Broncos, Eagles and forty nine Ers. That's where
I'm going to stretch. That's where I'm going. And look,
I understand that two of those four games are at home,
same in your row. I think the forty nine Ers
is gonna be a lot better this year, So I

(42:24):
think that's a really tough game. I think they're probably
gonna be better than both the Commanders and the Cowboys,
to be honest with you, and we know how good
the Eagles are and the Broncos. We'll see about Bonnicks
if you can have a continue the success at the
end of his rookie year. But he's got a great
situation around him with an offensive line and wide receiver,
So that to me is the toughest four game stretch.
You can make the argument too for Packers, Lions, Bears

(42:46):
the problem and forty nine ers that's another one. But
you just don't know what the Bears are gonna be,
So I think that's why I could not include that
particular stretch, all right, Statement number two, Paul, the best
game if you're a fan to attend MetLife Stadium to
see this year is three the home opener against the Chiefs.
I'll go back to what Bob Papa just said about
the game he wants to really call this season, and

(43:06):
that is the home opener against Kansas City. It's Patrick Mahomes.
You and I talked about this during the week. The
Chiefs will not be back here unless there's some kind
of scheduling situation where they finish on the same slot
as the Giants. You know, we know about those three
games that are always the question mark on the schedule
outside of the rotation. We may not see Patrick Mahomes

(43:27):
in this building for.

Speaker 1 (43:28):
Another eight years, or you might never see him in
this building at all.

Speaker 3 (43:31):
And we won't see Kelsey in this building.

Speaker 2 (43:34):
Again, Ohae correct, or maybe Chris Jones. So so again,
I'm with you. Just the fact that you might never
see Patrick Mahomes here again. You know, Paul is gonna
be lined up at the tunnel the way for Taylor
Swift to walk into the building. He's very excited about that.

Speaker 3 (43:47):
So it'll be you believe that, folks, I'll sell you
a bridge.

Speaker 2 (43:50):
And Brooks, Hey, you were just you were just breaking
Shakira down forty five minutes ago. So I'm not gonna
pry anything past you at the Tino. But look that
that has to be it for me. If you want
to go to a game, it's met Life Stadium, it's early.
If you win one of those first two games, there's
just great energy in the building. You're feeling great about yourself.
For shure, I know primetime games can be tough. It's late.

Speaker 1 (44:10):
It's a little bit difficult with that, I understand. Don't care.

Speaker 2 (44:13):
You get to see Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelcey to
future Hall of famers and person and frankly Chris Jones
gonna be Hall of Famer two, let's be honest and quickly.

Speaker 1 (44:19):
And Andy Read's gonna be Hall of Famer two. Go
see it.

Speaker 3 (44:22):
Really good news though, because if the Giants don't have
a great season and this game was later on in
November or December.

Speaker 2 (44:30):
You probably have a lot of people giving up there, right,
and you also have good weather. You're gonna have good
weather in September two, so that's gonna be very very
packed Giants crowd. And by the way, if you want tickets, guys,
to go to Giants dot com slash tickets, single game tickets,
season tickets. Become a season ticket member of Giants dot
com slash tickets to find tickets to any of the
Giants home games this year.

Speaker 1 (44:49):
Go check that out.

Speaker 2 (44:50):
Final statement, Paul, before we got to break here, very quick,
give me fifteen seconds. The NFC North is a tougher
matchup than the AFC West.

Speaker 3 (44:58):
I'm not buying that. I'm going to West. And part
of the reason is, as you know I am, we're
gonna agree again.

Speaker 1 (45:05):
Well I'm sorry sometimes we do know how you know,
But you know I'm gonna be wrong about all of
these now because we both agreed on it.

Speaker 3 (45:13):
That's the way.

Speaker 2 (45:14):
And here's why I have more faith. And I think
the Bear's gonna be pretty good this year. But I
like Pete Carroll with Gino Smith in Vegas. I give
them a little bit of an advantage over Ben Jhonson
and the Bears is because I think he's gonna be
a good coach.

Speaker 1 (45:26):
Is just his first year.

Speaker 2 (45:27):
Yeah, you don't know what Kayleb Williams is quite yet.
You know Geno's pretty good. So that's why I'm giving
the Raiders the edge over them. And then you, I
mean yes, and then Jami McCarthy on he's.

Speaker 1 (45:38):
Gonna be either.

Speaker 3 (45:38):
I'm with you quarterbacks. Is the difference for me?

Speaker 4 (45:40):
All right?

Speaker 2 (45:41):
That roundtable segment was brought to you by Slowman's. The
difference is human, all right. That's our first hour here
on the Giants Schedulely Special presented by the United Official
Airline of the Giants. Rookie Mini Camp Talk coming up
next to our number two stick with us all right,

(46:02):
Hour two of the Giants Schedule Release Special presented by
the United Official Airline of the New York Giants. John
schmulc Pauldatino with you taking your calls votes, get on
the line. Eight eight eight eighth eight one zero one
nine eight eight eight Italy one zero one nine Big
Sports Weekend schedule release last night, of course coming up,
we have Nick Celtics tomorrow. It looks like the Nuggets

(46:24):
are about to extend the Western Conference Final to seven
games in Oklahoma City. They lead by ten one o nine,
nine to nine with just over two minutes to go.
This has been a heck of a series.

Speaker 1 (46:35):
The NBA plus has some really nice games, and you
hope the Knicks can play as well at home as
the Nuggets are tonight against the thunder What a few.

Speaker 3 (46:44):
Times in recent memory, I think where you know, a
lot of people criticize the NBA, and I get it,
the regular seasons really long, but these NBA playoffs have
been better than the NCAA tournament this year.

Speaker 2 (46:55):
Then you got the Subway Series over the weekend as
well with the Yankees host of the Mets. So a
lot of fun stuff come up this weekend in the
world of sports. Hope you guys check that out. A
lot of coverage of course, right here on the fan
check out the Yankees right here on the fan. All right, Paul,
the time for a Rookie Mini Camp wrap up, brought
to you by Slowman's The Difference is human. I'm gonna
start by saying this, what happens on the field of

(47:18):
Rookie Mini camp Pump the brakes. The large majority and
when I say large majority, I'm talking like seventy percent
of the players on the field are tryout players that
might never play it down in the National are good chance.
I've never play it down in the National Football League,
So how these guys perform. There's no pads. None of

(47:39):
the draft picks did any of the seven on seven
drills except for Jackson Dart. So it's good to see
him out there, good to see him run around, see
him put the helmet on, see him put the jersey on. Exciting, awesome,
But I saw some people putting up like what Jackson
Dart's completion percentage was through two days of practice.

Speaker 3 (47:57):
By the way, only through seven on sevens. Goodness, there's no.

Speaker 2 (48:01):
Pass rush, no real plays, so it was full speed.
But still, like, don't take that seriously, guys, it doesn't matter.
I thought Jackson dor threw the ball well. I thought
in person, the ball popped out of his hands pretty good.
I was down at the Senior Ball and Mobile. I
saw him throw down there. I thought there was some
a little bit better pop, to be honest with you,
throwing the ball here in the practice facility up close

(48:22):
to what I saw down in Mobile at the Senior Bowl.
So you're happy about that ball, but this isn't work
trying to get a feel for these players and kind
of what they're all about.

Speaker 3 (48:30):
I think the most important thing that I got from
watching Dart was that on the second day of the
rookie Mini camp, the wins were fifteen to twenty miles
an hour on a consistent basis, with gusts up to
thirty Now, anybody who's been to the Meadowlands knows how
nasty those windy conditions can be out on the feet.

Speaker 1 (48:50):
Yeah, I was not.

Speaker 2 (48:51):
I had my daughter's first communion on Saturday, so I
was not at practice. I was at the indoor one
on Friday in the rain, right.

Speaker 3 (48:57):
And so this, to me was the most impressive thing
I can say about Jackson darn physically. What I took
from his seven on sevens is that he was mostly
not on every throw, but mostly very accurate, spun the ball,
terrific spiral in terms of cutting through the wind, and

(49:17):
had no problem at all even throwing the ball thirty
forty fifty yards downfield despite really really strong Meadowlands wins.
And just as a comparison, and folks don't go nuts
now on this because I remember when Pat Hanlin.

Speaker 1 (49:32):
Don't make these slappy bats out of that. What are
you gonna say?

Speaker 3 (49:35):
Pat Handlin, the Giants VP of Communications, he still to
this day bust my horns because I was here the
first day that Eli Manning came to Giants rookie mini caos.
What did you say? He practiced out on the grass
field and it was a disaster. Everybody knows it. It
was reported everywhere. It was a disaster. Wounded ducks left

(49:57):
and right of the target, in the ground, overthrown, he
couldn't hit the side of a barn. You wrote him
off career over And I was reporting as a beat
guy for another sports radio station and I flat out set.

Speaker 4 (50:11):
On the air.

Speaker 3 (50:12):
He reminded me of Dave Brown on that first rookie
mini camp pract.

Speaker 1 (50:19):
So after the first tew World, did Pat yell down
the hall? Hey, diddata does he still look like Dave Brown?

Speaker 3 (50:24):
He has probably come back and haunted me over that report,
which by the way, was very accurate at least ten.

Speaker 1 (50:32):
Or twelve mins back then.

Speaker 2 (50:34):
Paul was a young and impressionable forty five years old
back then, so yell yeah, yeah, right, like fifty five
years old.

Speaker 1 (50:40):
He had learned to that yet back then, so it's fine.

Speaker 3 (50:42):
So you know, obviously Eli rebounded from that day very well.
And who knows, maybe Jackson Dart will do really really
well in his career, or maybe it will not. It
doesn't really matter, but it was impressive how he navigated
the wind.

Speaker 2 (50:57):
Okay, And we'll get to Mara Jackson Dart in our
next segment, but let's get to Abduall Carter. We talked
about trying to get a feel for these players over
the course of rookie mini camp. We've talked to them
on conference calls and on zooms on an interviews, but
the first time we kind of got them in person
with the New York media in a more of a
conversational setting when the guys are not just like flying
because they just got drafted in the NFL for the

(51:19):
first time. So it was a good and you know,
they had the little press comments of the day after,
but they're still kind of basking in the glow.

Speaker 3 (51:25):
This is more like Questria.

Speaker 2 (51:26):
Talking about them as a player for the Giants, not
talking about them as a player that just got drafted.

Speaker 1 (51:31):
So let's hear from Abduel Carter. He did speak during
Rookie Mini Camp.

Speaker 7 (51:35):
I would just say pulling more people to like like
just getting extra working, Like after price today, we just
got all the guys that was there in the room
with me to got some extra working after practice like
things like that. Just not only making myself better, but
pulling people to make them better too comfortable. Yeah, I
just I like having fun out here. When I'm out
here with the paths on, with my helmet on, I
feel like that's why I'm at my best. I don't know,

(51:56):
I just fit in the most, want to feel just
being out here having fun.

Speaker 8 (52:00):
What kind of line background Giants fans gonna see on
some afternoons.

Speaker 7 (52:06):
I an't warning about Sunday right now. I'm just focused
on Rookie Minie Camp singing everyday, one day at a time.

Speaker 8 (52:11):
The Giants released their behind the scenes video of you
on your like thirty visit here. Yeah, and one of
the coaches said to you, like can you learn all
five positions? And you were like, I learn more if
you want to learn that is that something you expect?
Like I'm gonna have to learn all eleven positions, Like I.

Speaker 4 (52:27):
Need to know the entire I don't know abouhore eleven.

Speaker 3 (52:29):
But just what everybody's doing on everything.

Speaker 7 (52:33):
I was talking to you can want to line up
at full back tight and blocks and said, so, whoever
they need me, i'ma line up at and.

Speaker 2 (52:39):
Look, I think what you got, Abdul car this press
comments is the same thing that you got. And the
that was Ryan Dunleavy. You asked that question for the
New York Post. And the behind the scenes video is
talking about the Giants released Giants Life, which is their
documentary series. It came at us on the Giants YouTube channel,
Part one, which focuses on Abdul Carter, part two, which
focuses on Jackson Dart. You guys should go check that
out again Giants YouTube channel, Giants dot Com app.

Speaker 1 (53:01):
And he just is He gives short, serious, to the
point answers, but he has a level.

Speaker 2 (53:07):
Yeah, this is not gonna be a guy that I
feel like is gonna be like doing a bunch of
like extracurricular activities. He is just all about football. There's
gonna be no extraneous nonsense. This guy just wants to
go out there and punish opposing offenses. And look, you
can see him just moving out there. He moves a
little bit differently when you see him next in looks.

Speaker 1 (53:24):
All he did was DROs. He didn't do any seven
on seven, nothing competitive.

Speaker 3 (53:28):
He just his burst.

Speaker 2 (53:29):
His get off was just different than anyone else that
was out there on the practice field.

Speaker 1 (53:33):
Over the course of those two days.

Speaker 3 (53:34):
Two things to note off of that John Number one,
it's kind of weird to talk about a college guy
coming into the NFL and saying, Wow, we're amazed. He
kind of looks and sounds like a pro because the
Nils have kind of made them pros in college, so.

Speaker 2 (53:49):
The cornor Still he's a younger guy too. He's not
one of these guys that have been in school for
five or six years.

Speaker 3 (53:53):
No, no, he's not. But certainly at Penn State, sure,
you know that's kind of a pro situation, and so
he certainly has adapted to that type of environment and
it shows. The other thing is you remember about the
stress issue, the distress reaction issue, about the weakness in
the bottom of his foot that was discovered at the combine.

(54:14):
He did all the drills at the Giants rookie mini camp.
He didn't do seven on sevens. Coach said only Jackson.
Dart's gonna do seven on sevens because we want to
get him familiar with the snaps and the cadences and
getting familiar with throwing the ball and doing the dropbacks.

Speaker 2 (54:30):
And the reason for that, by the way, is that
all these other prospects have been so into doing like
the Olympic style training for the combine and stuff. They
want to make sure they're conditioned for football before they
have to do football things do on ovoid injury that way,
And so we got to look.

Speaker 3 (54:44):
At Abdul Carter, who was able to do all of
the positional drills, including the quick step, the high step,
and the stop and start the back pedals. He did
every drill that every one of the other linebackers did.
And so I think anyybody who still has some concerns
about that foot situation. Look, his agent had said Drew

(55:04):
Rosenhaus during the second checks before the draft that it
wasn't going to be a problem. Joe Shane said it
wouldn't be an impediment to draft him. Well, clearly those
guys were telling them the truth because they didn't hold
him back during the rookie minicamp. He did everything all
of the other linebackers dated by the way. That's the
other point I should make. He is working at this

(55:24):
time with the outside linebackers in that room, yeah.

Speaker 2 (55:27):
Which is where we expect him to be. You know,
you watched him in Giants' life. He was with Charlie Bowllen,
the Giants outlinebacker coach. That's where Brian Burns is. That's
why kveon Tibbetts.

Speaker 3 (55:36):
Over time they may expand.

Speaker 1 (55:38):
Well, yeah, and those guys are different now.

Speaker 2 (55:39):
And those guys do do some pass rushing stuff with sure,
with Andre Patterson and the defensive lineman, so you can
get mixed in and there a little bit too.

Speaker 1 (55:46):
So that was our mini caamp wrap up, brought to
you by Sloman's. The difference is human eight eight eight
eight oh eight one zero one to nine. Hey, Connor,
if do we still have Ben in Connecticut? If he's
still on the line, Let's go to Ben.

Speaker 4 (55:57):
Ben.

Speaker 1 (55:58):
What's going on?

Speaker 4 (56:00):
Hey?

Speaker 3 (56:00):
How's you going? Guys? Great show? Thank you? What do
you got?

Speaker 4 (56:04):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (56:04):
So, Reson, I want to talk about a couple of
things here. First of all, I think even though obviously
this is a tough Giants draw of the schedule, I
think it's will have been a little bit overblown.

Speaker 4 (56:13):
Another couple of reasons.

Speaker 6 (56:15):
Why here Uh, First of all, here are nine games
on the schedule. We have the Cowboys twice, who are
projected to, you know, and these are the betting odds
to win nine games. You have the Commanders twice seven wins,
Taints nine wins, Bear seven wins, Raiders seven wins, Patriots
four wins, and even the Chargers.

Speaker 4 (56:33):
At home nine wins.

Speaker 6 (56:35):
That eight or nine games on the schedule of teams
that are basically protected to be five hundred.

Speaker 3 (56:40):
Wait, man, Ben, I know what, Ben?

Speaker 1 (56:42):
In real place, the Commanders over under are seven and
a half? Really seven and a half, right, Commanders? That
can't be true.

Speaker 6 (56:51):
You're not true.

Speaker 4 (56:51):
That's what I just saw.

Speaker 1 (56:52):
Are you well? Con Or check that for me.

Speaker 2 (56:54):
I would be very surprised coming off an NFC title
appearance that that they had a that they they seven
win total.

Speaker 1 (57:00):
There.

Speaker 3 (57:01):
I don't know where that one's coming from. But hey, look, look, look,
there's there's no doubt that anybody who strongly believes in
the previous season's records and thinks that the same thing's
going to happen year after year is making a mistake.
So that's why we always preface. Every time we have
this conversation, it is the strength of schedule based on

(57:24):
last season's winning percentage. And you know what, it doesn't
mean a whole lot. It's just a nice topic for conversation,
but don't try to digest it like a piece of
prime rate.

Speaker 1 (57:35):
And Connor, it's not gonna work.

Speaker 4 (57:36):
Connor checked that one more thing if you don't mind it,
you know, listen, I just uh, I just checked the
stat on that, and you're right. I was wrong. It's
nine and a half. So that that's that's my fault
through right, But you're right, you're right, that's wrong.

Speaker 6 (57:48):
But I but I wanted to say one more thing
about that because I think, uh, there's been a lot.

Speaker 3 (57:54):
Of calls about how it's like we're.

Speaker 6 (57:56):
Almost assuming the Cowboys are gonna beat us twice, because
I've beaten us twice for.

Speaker 4 (58:01):
A long time now, and I understand that.

Speaker 6 (58:03):
But we'll also you can't put that against us and
then not give us any credit for the fact that
we've owned the Commanders. No great point, Commanders is out
better than Octor. We're not gonna give ourselves any credit
for our history against the Commanders, but we're we'll be
against ourselves with the Cowboys. We're not very good.

Speaker 4 (58:18):
But I don't know, I feel like it's kind of
like a.

Speaker 6 (58:20):
Double edged stored being used against the Giants, especially in
a lot of the national shows. You know, you watch
the ESDL and they fill up to hammer the Giants
about that.

Speaker 2 (58:27):
You know, No, Ben, look and I appreciate the call, man.
I think you make some really good points. You're right,
the Giants have played well against the Commanders.

Speaker 1 (58:34):
And Bob brought this up.

Speaker 2 (58:35):
If you know Graham Ganoa doesn't get hurt that game,
who knows how that goes. The two point conversion fiasco.

Speaker 3 (58:41):
Is a mumble at the Washington thirty five, all.

Speaker 1 (58:44):
Of those things.

Speaker 2 (58:45):
So the Giants played the drop, The Giants played the
Commander's tight last year, So there's no these are not
impossible games. And I'll just say this too, if we
were blessed enough to be doing this show on May fifteen, eighth,
twenty twenty two, you know whatever, we'll be saying about
what the Giants record was gonna be in the first

(59:06):
year of the Shane and davel Era not very good. No,
And I bet you if you gave those guys truth serum,
they were probably realistic about, you know what their first
year was gonna be too. They talked about being a
long term rebuilding process.

Speaker 3 (59:19):
They were trying to puck the brakes right out of
the box.

Speaker 2 (59:22):
So you never know how a season's going to go.
And by the way, that's why the NFL is the best.
That's why it's the best. The Pirates were never gonna
be good this year. They had no chance, zero chance.
There were a half dozen teams in the NBA that

(59:44):
were more worried about getting lottery positioned at the start
of the year than they were making the postseason.

Speaker 1 (59:51):
I don't have to list them, look it up, you
know who they are. That's not the NFL. There are
worst to first teams in division regularly in this league.
Let's pull out that regularly.

Speaker 4 (01:00:03):
Do you have it for me?

Speaker 6 (01:00:04):
What do you?

Speaker 1 (01:00:04):
I do?

Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
I do have that number? Okay, let's see here.

Speaker 4 (01:00:08):
Do do do do?

Speaker 3 (01:00:08):
Do?

Speaker 1 (01:00:09):
Do do do?

Speaker 3 (01:00:09):
It's a very interesting number.

Speaker 4 (01:00:12):
All right, here we go.

Speaker 3 (01:00:16):
In terms of teams that have gone worse to first.
In fact, at least one club has gone from worst
or tied for worse in their division to first place.

Speaker 1 (01:00:29):
The following year.

Speaker 3 (01:00:30):
In twenty of the past twenty three NFL seasons three,
twenty of twenty twenty four.

Speaker 1 (01:00:36):
That's crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
And again we're not saying that team is gonna be
the Giants this year. We sure hope they are. But
the problem is that you cannot predict what these teams
are gonna.

Speaker 1 (01:00:43):
Do year to year.

Speaker 2 (01:00:44):
It's very, very difficult. So just keep that in mind
as you move forward here. Then you make really good points.
You don't know what teams are gonna be good, what
teams aren't, who's gonna be healthy when you play these teams?
All those things put together, And again I go back
to twenty twenty two. I'm done making any definitive statements
about how I think a season is going to go,

(01:01:06):
because no one in there ryan mind. Heading into that
twenty twenty two season, we're like.

Speaker 1 (01:01:10):
Oh yeah, what a playoff game? Absolutely think about it
this way. That year, Paul, you would back to back
games against the Ravens and the Packers or was that
we four and five? That year it was five and six?

Speaker 3 (01:01:25):
Was surely it was right around there.

Speaker 1 (01:01:28):
I promise you that every Giant fan that may we're
saying those are two losses, not for those two teams.

Speaker 3 (01:01:38):
Until Leonard Williams got that Lamar Jackson fumble at the
very end of the game.

Speaker 1 (01:01:42):
It d On Thibodeau with the he had the strip.
He had to pick late in that game, right, wasn't
it the deflection for the interception?

Speaker 9 (01:01:48):
Know?

Speaker 1 (01:01:48):
It was Julian Love with the pick. Keve On thibdo
had the strip and Leonard Williams.

Speaker 3 (01:01:51):
Had recovery correct.

Speaker 1 (01:01:53):
So no one felt the Giant's gonna win those two
games that year. No everyone assumed they were gonna be losses.
So you just don't know. You don't know. Things happen
in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (01:02:02):
Maybe a couple Giants take huge steps, they turn into
Pro Bowlers that you're not expecting.

Speaker 1 (01:02:06):
Who knows. There's just no way to know. And that's
why again the NFL is the best. All right, let's
take a quick break.

Speaker 2 (01:02:12):
We'll be right back with more on the Giants Schedule
release presented by the United Official Airline of the New
York Giants Gun Online. Folks will take more of your
calls at eight eight oh eight one zero one nine
as you continue talking Giants football.

Speaker 1 (01:02:23):
And NFL with you right here on the FED. Well
back here on the Giants Schedule release special presented by
the United Official Airline of the New York Giants, John
Schmunk Paul Deatino talking Giants Football with you. Rookie Mini
camp as well. That was last weekend, and now the
rookies are in the building and they are in uniform,
meeting with the vets. They're integrating into the rooms with

(01:02:45):
the rest of the offseason roster, which is a lot
of guys as the rookies try to figure out what
it's like to work and live and NFL life. All right,
let's take a look.

Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
Listen rather to another one of our mini camp press conferences,
brought to you by Ford Official Truck and be of
the New York Giants. Here is Giants first round pick
and rookie quarterback Jackson Dart addressing the media last Friday.

Speaker 10 (01:03:08):
I just think I'm really confident my preparation every day
and I feel like anytime I step on the field,
like I don't have doubts on my play. And I
think that that comes from taking the time to really
understand the scheme and what I'm doing and what's why
is a play called to execute a certain way? And
now that's something that I take pride on. And then
you know, as a quarterback, you know you're only as
good as the guys around you, So you know, you

(01:03:30):
want to make sure that everybody's on the same page
and everybody has that same preparation aspect of making sure
that everything's down to a t and has done the
right way. And you know, our coaches did a great
job praying for us, and I kind of wanted to
continue that because you know, at times you're kind of
limited with time, and you know, everybody kind of has
a little questions, so just wanted to answer that and
get everybody on the same page.

Speaker 3 (01:03:49):
What kind of feedback were you getting from coach table
on the field today?

Speaker 10 (01:03:52):
Yeah, he coaches me up like every second I'm around him.
He's the guy that will walk in a room say,
you know, go bye and whatnot, and thentle come back
thirty seconds later because he has an idea. So he's constantly,
you know, coaching me, and I think that that's just
that's what I want to be around.

Speaker 4 (01:04:07):
You know, I want to be the coach.

Speaker 10 (01:04:08):
I want to be coached the hardest, and you know,
I feel like that's going to help me excel the
highest level and help me reach my potential. So there's
not another coach I'd rather be playing for. It seems
like you're allowed to say your last brow that's unspecific
about that read that play or is it just more
just the entire theory right after you through that last
bat like writ in your ear.

Speaker 1 (01:04:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:04:26):
No, he was just kind of you know, asking what
I was seeing, kind of explained it to him and
making sure that we're just on the same page.

Speaker 11 (01:04:31):
It became very clear some of the clips that have
come out during the draft process that he wanted you
that you were Daples guy. What does that mean to
you to have a coach that that really really wants
to work with you and sees the potential in you
and and is better as invested as you as you
can get. Yeah, I'm blessed to be here. I'm blessed
to be able to, you know, be coached by him.

Speaker 10 (01:04:50):
And I think that we just kind of collect, you know,
personality wise of how we handle things and kind of
just like our competitive nature, our toughness, and our great
about how we go about things.

Speaker 4 (01:04:58):
I think that that just helped us connect.

Speaker 10 (01:04:59):
And you know, he sees football the same way that
I see it, and you know, we see it as
a physical and tough sport, and you know, I think
that a lot of times you don't really see that
a time with quarterbacks. And you know, for me, you know,
I I kind of play like a defensive player a
little bit, just you know, the way that attack each
and every.

Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
Everything I do that Jackson Dart he did his dad
was a defensive players. That's where he gets that mentality from.
And Paul with Jackson Dart, I think it's important that
a few things. One, I think watching him address the
media and I interacted with him a little bit in
the facility afterwards. He is like Captain Charisma man like,
you know, he just has a manner and way about

(01:05:40):
him that brings energy and positivity to whatever situation he's in.
And you know, we talked about how his defensive teammates
at ole Miss considered him the leader and he interacted
with them. He interacted with both sides of the ball.
And again, none of this I shouldn't say none of
it matters, but it doesn't matter nearly as much unless

(01:06:00):
he plays extremely well too. But again, you don't want
to take too much out of what happens on the
field of rookie mini camp. But the personality you can understand.
And you know Dan Brugler, who's been on you know,
a lot of our programming here, he said this, when
this guy got into NFL buildings around the league, it
was gonna be tough for head coaches and offensive coordinators
to not want this guy in their building because of

(01:06:22):
his intelligence, his personality, his charisma. And you certainly saw
all of that on display when he addressed the media
locally here for the first time face to face at
rookie minicamp.

Speaker 3 (01:06:31):
A lot of maturity, to be honest, another magical word
that you love to see from one of your rookies.

Speaker 1 (01:06:38):
But also just charisma, gravitas, like he just has something
about him where it's like, all right, eh, I think
this guy can do it.

Speaker 3 (01:06:44):
He's a very positive and assertive kind of guy. And
I thought one of the examples that we heard was
that you know, Dable was very impressed with the fact
that he prepared extremely hard for this rookie mini camp.
I mean a lot of these guys understand like, all right, well,
we're here to try out. Who knows it's a one

(01:07:05):
in a million shot or whatever. This kid was drafted
in the first round. They traded to get him. He
understands that responsibility and he accepts it and is willing
to run with it and prepared like a first round
pick needs to prepare. And then you know, we were
told that he was given some some plays that they
were going to run the seven on sevens and the

(01:07:27):
next day when they went on the bus to get
to the facility a hotel.

Speaker 2 (01:07:31):
It was actually going back to the hotel from the
facility on Friday night, I think, right, yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:07:35):
And then but then back the next morning, he went
over some of those plays with the offensive players to
make sure that they'd be on the same page during
a seven on seven who, by the way, are get
a tryout?

Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
Guys that he's probably never gonna say. Well, a lot
of the guys were actually udfa's that he were throwing
the ball. They were the three wide receivers at a
tight end. Yeah, there were all the skill position guys
that were udfa's.

Speaker 3 (01:07:56):
Total of thirteen udfas and undrafted.

Speaker 2 (01:07:59):
Rookie free And for the folks that don't know, those
are signed undrafted rookie free agents, guys that are under
contract and will be with the team. They'll a couple
of them to get let go after rookie Baue Camp
on the both on the defensive side of the bar room.

Speaker 1 (01:08:10):
Yes, correct y. So anyway, tilling to make sure fans
do it, no, no question.

Speaker 3 (01:08:15):
And so you know, for Dart to take on that responsibility,
that role, that leadership kind of quality, uh, you know again,
he's not gonna see most of those guys who he
was probably talking to much at all, if if at all,
once the season starts. And here he is doing what
he can. He's a number one draft pick. These kids

(01:08:36):
are just crossing their fingers that they may get a shot,
and he's doing everything he can to try to help
them out.

Speaker 2 (01:08:42):
So I've done I've tried really hard to get some
good guests on our Giants Little podcast, which you could
find on the Giants app, giants dot com, slash podcast
to search for Giants Podcast, Network of Giants, Uttle on
your favorite podcast platform. To get some former NFL quarterbacks
to talk about Jackson Dart and what he brings to
the Dani Rolotski went up this week, guys, and go
check that out. But I'm gonna play a couple of

(01:09:04):
snippets from two other ones I did. Kurt Warner from
NFL Network Form for Giant and Chase Daniel, longtime NFL
backup quarterback. When I start Chase Daniel, he was a
huge fan of Jackson Dart watching him in college. Thought
he was one of the steals of the draft. Here's
what Chase had to say about Jackson darn and what
he saw from him at Ole Miss.

Speaker 12 (01:09:21):
Toward the end of the season, Lane I wouldn't say
runs in NFL offense, but I started seeing some NFL
concepts where I'm like, okay, and I sort of rewatched
some of the early stuff. I'm like, Okay, I can
see how this is working.

Speaker 4 (01:09:33):
I can.

Speaker 12 (01:09:34):
I thought Lane did a hell of a job last year,
and and and you know, Jackson is a really competitive guy.
But he put up a lot of stats and people
are like, well, stats don't tell well, this is the
best conference in the world right now in college in
the SEC, so you definitely want to see production.

Speaker 3 (01:09:51):
And when you're watching it, you're like, Okay, I can.

Speaker 4 (01:09:53):
See what he's seeing.

Speaker 1 (01:09:54):
I would say.

Speaker 12 (01:09:55):
The one thing, I'm sure we'll get into it. But
the one thing about the offense is it's a a
lot of single like one one reads, meaning like hey,
you're just working the left side of the field.

Speaker 3 (01:10:06):
You have option one, you have option two.

Speaker 12 (01:10:08):
Let's take off and run. And he is a hell
of a runner, like I would say, one of the
best runners in this class at quarterback. I mean, he
averaged almost five hundred yards rushing as he's in the
three seasons it'll miss and over double digit touchdowns he averaged.

Speaker 4 (01:10:23):
I did this the other night.

Speaker 12 (01:10:24):
He averaged like one hundred and twenty one carries a year.

Speaker 4 (01:10:26):
That's a lot.

Speaker 12 (01:10:27):
So you have to go back, how much is that
called runs verus how much is that scrambling versus how
much is that is the offense And it's a little
bit of everything. But for me, I would have loved
to see through the duration of his career, and he
got a lot better from year to year. Like these
full field reads in the NFL, they're so vitally important. Yeah,
you know, you can't have half field reads on under

(01:10:48):
center play action stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:10:49):
You didn't see him do that a lot.

Speaker 12 (01:10:51):
But if he can get to that full field reads,
I liken it to what Jayden Daniels did two.

Speaker 3 (01:10:56):
Years ago at LSU.

Speaker 12 (01:10:58):
People are like, oh, he's an amazing right, dude was
a pocket passer and he got through his progression so quickly.
I think Jackson can do that. I just think the
offense didn't really allow for him to do that, if
that makes sense.

Speaker 3 (01:11:08):
When you look at cam.

Speaker 12 (01:11:10):
Moore, because I'm I'm just trying to not compare the two,
but when you look at cam Woard, cam Moored gets
out of the pocket better than probably anyone in the class.

Speaker 1 (01:11:17):
But he doesn't run.

Speaker 12 (01:11:18):
He gets out of the pocket to throw, and so
he's always got his eyes on the field. That's like,
that's hard to teach. With Jackson. He just trust his
athletic ability and his running ability so much that I
don't fault him for that because he's a lot faster
and he's a lot more athletic than you look.

Speaker 1 (01:11:35):
I like him to like he's a more athletic bow Knicks.

Speaker 12 (01:11:38):
But if you watch Bo Nicks in his last year
in college two years ago, he was running a lot
and he was running away from people, and it's like
sneaky athletic like comes to mind.

Speaker 3 (01:11:47):
So I don't mind it.

Speaker 12 (01:11:48):
I do think the way the game's go and really
the past three or four years, really five years.

Speaker 4 (01:11:53):
I would say half a decade.

Speaker 12 (01:11:55):
You gotta have someone to get out of trouble when
the pocket collapses, Because nowadays you have maybe two seconds
to make a decision. I would say, like a decade
ago when I was playing, it was like two and
a half. That extra half second gets on you quickly,
especially with how good defensive lines are getting. And I
wouldn't say that the Giants offensive line was bad lest year,
but you have to be able to have a guy.

(01:12:16):
And I think that's sort of what sold Brian Dable
on him is not only is he really good in
the pocket, good mechanics when he's pressured, but also can
get out of trouble, which is so vitally important.

Speaker 2 (01:12:27):
All Right, now, let's go to Kurt Warner from NFL Network,
former Giant quarterback, Super Bowl champion, Hall of Famer. I
think those are all the Aquids I can listen to,
really are not bad. Former worker at High Ve out
in Iowa. That about that arena football superstar. I can
go through any more of them. Here's Kurt Water talking
about Jackson Dark.

Speaker 13 (01:12:43):
I'm not a trades guy, you know, and maybe it's
because I didn't have those trades and was able to
be really successful. I mean, you guys know, Eli Manning
didn't have those trades. Nope, was able to be really successful.
There's Tom bra Like, there's a lot of guys, and
I know the trend is moving towards athleticism. I get that,
but I still believe when you watch in critical moments

(01:13:04):
of games, you have to be able to play from
inside the pocket. And it's not about traits. It's about
the mental ability to make decisions, get the ball to
the right guy, and then having good enough traits to
make the throws that you're going to be asked to
make or to make, you know, a five yard run
when you have to make a five yard run like

(01:13:25):
and Jackson Dart to me, has all of you know,
the skills to be good enough. Like he's got good
enough arm strength, he's got good enough mobility, he's got
all of that stuff. To me, is good enough to
be a really good quarterback in the National Football League.
So it's not anything that I'm concerned about, you know,
from a skill standpoint.

Speaker 1 (01:13:45):
You mentioned his mobility. The one thing I was kind
of impressed by Curtent. We see some college quarterbacks and
they get pressure, they'll roll out, they'll run backwards. Jackson
Dart tends to step up and through the pressure, which
I really like.

Speaker 2 (01:13:56):
Now a lot of times he just runs off of
that which, by the way, if you can get ten
twelve yards on the right, that's great. But I thought
his pocket presence in that way was actually pretty good
for a young player.

Speaker 13 (01:14:05):
Yeah, I mean, I think he does a nice shot.
You know, he's willing to run, and a lot of
people have made the comparison to a Jalen Herds and
I should like that comparison. You know that Jalen isn't.

Speaker 3 (01:14:15):
Off the charts, you know, skill set wise, you know.

Speaker 13 (01:14:17):
Whether that's athletically or speed or arm strength, but you know,
but he's good in all of those areas. He's got
enough in all of those areas. And you know when
he runs, you know, very seldom is it going to
be a forty yard run. But he does a great
job at picking up eight to ten yards. He's got
a nice feel when the pocket opens up, and a
big body to be able to run through somebody if

(01:14:41):
he needs to score down in the red zone and
do those things. And I think Jackson Dard is very
similar to that. Maybe not quite as good an athlete
as as Jalen, but I think in the same vein,
you know, of what he brings to the table. And
so I think when you watch Jalen play, I look
this and say, I think Jackson Dart could be a

(01:15:02):
very similar type player within that offense to what Jalen does.
You know, Jalen's a big time thrower and big time
moments and those things, and I want to see that
from Jackson.

Speaker 3 (01:15:14):
But just skill set wise, those.

Speaker 13 (01:15:17):
That I think that's a pretty accurate comparison when we're
just talking about the physical skills of Jackson to somebody
that's playing in the NFL. Yeah, you know, I actually
know Russell, you know, quite a bit. And actually I'm
really close with Janis as well. And I think both
those guys will be great for Jackson, you know, in
terms of of their willingness to help him however they

(01:15:40):
can help him. Now, those two guys are two different
kinds of quarterbacks. Again, Russell less of the more traditional
drop back, you know, read play on time type quarterback,
you know, But there's things that he's really good at
seeing and throwing and the way he throws things that
I think he can really help Jackson.

Speaker 4 (01:16:00):
That stuff.

Speaker 13 (01:16:00):
I think Jamis is really good mentally at processing information
and reading coverages and getting to the right guy. And
so I think combination wise, they could be, you know,
a great combination for Jackson to help him with the
two facets of his game.

Speaker 2 (01:16:17):
Those interviews are brought to you by Bob's discun Furniture
official furniture store and Mattress, partner of the New York Giants. So, Paul,
they talked a lot about the physical traits of Jackson
Dart there and look what and Kurt mentioned this at
the beginning of his first answer and that clip and again, guys,
both those full interviews, they're almost a half an hour
each and it's all Jackson Dart from both guys and
the one from Rolosity that's up there too on the

(01:16:38):
Johns Totle podcast. If you're a Giants fan, I really
really suggest that you go check him out. It's definitely
worth your time. But how is he going to mentally
process the game right? How quickly can he get used
to the NFL all the different things the defense shows you,
all the things that the quarterback is responsible for. You know,
there's no looking for the guy to pull up the
card with the big pancake on. It's to tell you

(01:17:00):
what no adjustment is nope. You know you gotta do protections.
You gotta be able to read changing defenses. Defenses switch
completely post snap versus pre snap. They're a lot more complicated.

Speaker 4 (01:17:09):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:17:10):
Chase Daniel talked about how the reads you're reading off
one guy, well, you get to do more than that
in the NFL. You gotta get to one to two,
to three and things of that nature. So those are
things that are gonna take some time from to figure out.
Who knows, We don't know how quickly he's gonna figure
this out. Maybe it's gonna be really fast, maybe it's
gonna be slower. Only Ryan Dable's gonna know. Only Mike
Kafick is gonna know. Shay Tierney, the Giants quarterbacks coach,

(01:17:31):
is gonna know, and they'll determine when he is in
fact ready to go. But I think I warned fans
about this when we did our post draft show. Don't
lose your mind about what he does and.

Speaker 1 (01:17:43):
Can't practice is or preseason games.

Speaker 2 (01:17:45):
Guys, the coaches are gonna know when he's ready, and
they'll put him out there when he's ready and.

Speaker 1 (01:17:52):
If they feel like they need to. Russell Wilson could
be playing great, and he could be playing seventeen games.

Speaker 3 (01:17:57):
Is year fall.

Speaker 1 (01:17:57):
We know so well the way and see how the
season goes. No way to predict when that's going to
happen today.

Speaker 3 (01:18:02):
John, you know I can't go through this show without
making a food analogy true. And the bottom line is
think of Jackson Dart as the Sunday sauce. It's going
to be on the stove and you're gonna throw the
ingredients in there and then it's gonna start the simmer.
And you don't serve it with the pasta until it's time.

(01:18:25):
You don't do it before, you don't do it after.
Just like when you boil the pasta in the water,
you don't let it boil too long or it becomes soggy.
You still have to have some firmness and texture and consistency.
You don't want to serve it too early because now
it's too hard and it's clumpy, and you don't want
to serve it too late. You want to serve it

(01:18:47):
just right. This coaching staff, whether it's your Turney, Mike
Kafka or Brian Dabele, all three of these guys together
have to determine what is the right time clock to
serve that Jackson dart Meal, and they're not gonna do
it before it's time.

Speaker 1 (01:19:04):
And we're not gonna know when it's time. Only they
are gonna know when it's time. And again, the circumstances
the season are gonna help determine that as well. So
I wollop to wait and see what goes on with that.
All right, folks, we got one more segment coming your way.
We're gonna try to dual calls.

Speaker 2 (01:19:21):
If you want to get on the line, feel free
eight eight eight eight eight one zero one nine eighty
eight eight eight one zero one nine. We also have
some sound from the Giants third round pick Darius Alexander
and their fourth round pick.

Speaker 1 (01:19:33):
Camp Scatabuy. So stay tuned. We'll take a quick break.
We'll come back with more of the Giants Schedule Release
Special presented by the United Official Airline of the New
York Giants. We're back on the Giants Schedule Release Special
presented by the United Official Airline of the New York
Football Giants.

Speaker 2 (01:19:51):
John Schmelt, Paul Theatino. Your calls eight at eight eight
oh eight one zero one to nine. You're from Abdul
Carter and Jackson Dart. Let's pull up the giants third round, Connor,
let's go to dari X Alexander all calling audible on here,
Sorry about that. He also spoke to the media at
Midiicamp last week for the rookies.

Speaker 1 (01:20:07):
Here's Darius Alexander.

Speaker 14 (01:20:09):
Just trusting my coaches and the veteran guys out there,
believing in them, taking coaches from them while they're helping me.
So next day after that, it'd be just efforts going
out there, running fast to the bar, everywhere to go.
So I'll say that's a cute success right there. Going
to the coaching play. What are your first impressions of
Andre Patterson's fresh and Presents is wonderful, cool, laid back
to coach, but uh, once you get fired up, he
there and he all the way there. But it's good

(01:20:31):
to have him around. Great communicative coach, gas about anything
that you need help with on the f off the field.

Speaker 4 (01:20:36):
So it's great. You had a long tenure in college,
right and you improved every single year.

Speaker 3 (01:20:41):
What do you attribute that improvement.

Speaker 4 (01:20:43):
To and how do you think that's going to transition
as you go to the next album For me?

Speaker 14 (01:20:48):
So, I had four different D line coaches back in college.
So for me, it was just been able to buy
into what my coaches is teaching me. Whatever I did
learn before, don't bring.

Speaker 8 (01:20:58):
That to the table with them.

Speaker 14 (01:20:59):
Learn their learn their learn their work at how they
want me to work, pursue my things out there, and
then maybe I could go back and add those little
things that ahead of my game before. Adamants of my game.
But more than anything, just believe in your coach and
trust him to playing a big ot for you.

Speaker 1 (01:21:12):
He's going to be twenty five this summer.

Speaker 2 (01:21:13):
You can tell by listening to a mature guy, Cam
Scatabu the Giants fourth round pack.

Speaker 1 (01:21:17):
Let's see what he had to say.

Speaker 9 (01:21:18):
Getting the end zone. I mean, you know, it feels
good when you run somebody over and then get in
the end zone. I mean, it feels good when you
get in the en zone. But imagine running someone over
and then running another person over and then getting in
the end zone.

Speaker 4 (01:21:29):
It's not much better, you know.

Speaker 9 (01:21:31):
So it just shows that, you know, when when you're physical,
it shows the work you put in, you know, the
weight room, and how much you do to make your
game better.

Speaker 15 (01:21:39):
So I feel like people sleep on your ability to
make guys miss in the open field.

Speaker 9 (01:21:43):
Maybe a little bit this past year. I didn't do
it a ton, you know, I more so hit people
or attack their one shoulder. But I mean people want
to sleep, they can sleep, you know.

Speaker 4 (01:21:53):
I have no issue with that.

Speaker 9 (01:21:55):
It's been something I've had to deal with my whole life.
So I'm going to continue to do what I need
to do to be successful and play as long as
I can.

Speaker 15 (01:22:01):
In this league, we talk about being physical and attacking
at one shoulder. It's about angles. How often does that
get lost in terms of how folks view the running
back position, like you alwa's taking on too much contact,
but not that every contact contact is the same content.

Speaker 1 (01:22:14):
Yeah, exactly, And that's right.

Speaker 9 (01:22:16):
I mean head up contact is that's that's real contact,
you know, and shoulder to shoulder isn't as much contacts
people think, you know. And uh, I have a good
balance underneath my feet. So if I can get half
a body, you know, I feel like I'm in a
good shape to go past them.

Speaker 14 (01:22:31):
So with all you accomplished, how do you keep finding
the chip on your shoulder to prove people that you
could still do more?

Speaker 3 (01:22:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (01:22:39):
How many snaps of the NFL. Have you seen me
play zero? Right, I've proved nothing. I've you know, I've
proved what I am in college, but I've proved nothing
at this level. So what now Where I'm at, I
have to prove myself. And if that's for five years
or if that's for ten years, I'm gonna continue to
prove myself. I'm the best do it for the longest.
So continue to do that and just work my butt

(01:23:00):
off until you know, till time comes.

Speaker 1 (01:23:03):
Paul Fan's gonna love Campskataboo. He is a blue collar kid.

Speaker 2 (01:23:06):
He has the right approach, right personality, right thought process
of succeeding in the NFL. It's gonna be fun watching
him in Tyrone Tracy Split those backfield terras.

Speaker 3 (01:23:13):
He's the kind of guy who will not only energize
the crowd, but he will energize the guys in the huddle. Yeah,
I've likened him to Brandon Jacobs when he.

Speaker 1 (01:23:22):
Plows somebody over about half the size. But yeah, I'm
talking about yes play style absolutely, with the pact he.

Speaker 3 (01:23:29):
Can have on his teammates, this is a guy who
is just gonna light a real fire under folks every
time he barrels somebody.

Speaker 2 (01:23:38):
Over, kind of like how Marshaun Lynch used to run
right that that that that type of thing. Again, I
don't think he quite has that type of punch that
that Lynch ad. I think Lynch is probably heavier than
he was that to look at him not might have
been a little bit heavier.

Speaker 3 (01:23:51):
But let's see, don't put anything by like that.

Speaker 2 (01:23:54):
That type of way to energize and just bring a
physicality to the game that I think will energize everyone else.
All right, we gotta come minutes here, Paul. So we
mentioned it before Nick's playing the Celtics tomorrow in game
six up three games to two. I had a rough
time heading into game three. I could have went to
that game, but I had to coach my seven second
grade daughters flag football game. Look, I had to do

(01:24:17):
I was the other coach wasn't there.

Speaker 1 (01:24:18):
I had to do it. It was a good left
lesson for her. Your team comes first. We knocked that
out on Saturday. Nix ended up losing. Worked out, okay.
I went on Monday night. It was fine. So I'll
be there tomorrow night.

Speaker 4 (01:24:29):
Paul.

Speaker 1 (01:24:31):
You apparently, though, are not going to be in front
of your TV what are you going on?

Speaker 3 (01:24:35):
There is a a Chicago tribute band, Leonid and Friends.
They are a Russian rock and roll band that does
this absolutely incredible, incredible mimicry of Chicago, which is a
Hall of Fame rock and roll band from the seventies
in the eighties. My wife got some tickets for their

(01:24:56):
show tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (01:24:57):
And that was a while ago before you knew what
was going on. Yeah, and the show is at eight
o'clock and you have not been able to exit stage left. No,
I'll be at center stage, and so I will be
keeping track of the game as best as I can.
I'll have to dim the brightness on the screen of
my cell phone as I hold it down between my knees.

Speaker 3 (01:25:20):
Do you know how to do that?

Speaker 4 (01:25:21):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:25:21):
Yeah, okay, And I will make sure that I am
hooked up to the game properly, and with any luck,
the show will let out with some time left in
the game.

Speaker 2 (01:25:29):
As long as the show suposed to be, I don't know,
but it starts at eight, and so is the tip
off right? That's I mean, bet not be much more
than two and a half.

Speaker 3 (01:25:36):
I would think they'll be done by two hours, So
