Speaker 1 (00:07):
The following is a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
This is Girls Talk, Boys Talk, presented by Invisile Line,
trusted by over five hundred NFL players for their winning smiles,
and broadcasting live from Dallas Cowboys World headquarters at the Star.
Now your host, Nicole Hutchison.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Sich Welcome to Girls Talkboys Talk, presented by Invisi Line.
Aisha Morrison, Brie Aldridge, Jessnavars. Here's filling in for Nicole
as she takes a very well deserved day off. Ladies,
you know what I love. I love walking in here
and seeing the guys on the field.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
Yes, it does make me look happy.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
It doesn't feel so empty around here. So guys officially
still back at it, the boys, and we're just gonna
kick things off because last week we didn't get to
hear from George Pickens right until after our episode, right after,
literally right after, So I wanted to jump right into
that because it was a very interesting interview. Bree, you
(01:21):
were there, What was the vibe that you got from
George Pickens? Because again, still a very hot commodity.
Speaker 5 (01:26):
I feel like you, guys, I'm going to be a.
Speaker 6 (01:30):
George Pickens advocate like he was so in his demeanor.
I guess the passionate player, right, that's what we're talking about.
How this huge personality, but like when he's answering questions,
like he's so mellow and like he kind of reminds
me of Ceede Lamb because Cedeing Lamb has that energy
(01:50):
on the field. But when you talk to him, you know,
in the locker room or at the podium whatever, he's
very like in control, calm. This is he catches your attention,
and Pickens is very much the same, and he's given
all the right answers. Is everything you want to hear
from a guy who's coming into a new environment, who
is willing to be learning under guys like Ceedinge Lamb
(02:12):
and Seeding Lamb's answers to a lot of the questions. Also,
I was impressed by because somebody had asked straight up,
like do you feel like you can learn from Pickens
even though obviously you're the top dog here and you
have the upper hand.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
We're talking about experience and what have you. He was like, oh,
without a doubt, He's like already.
Speaker 6 (02:27):
I'm learning from you know him and what he can bring,
and then Tolbert's answer was also I asked him specifically
in the locker room, Dak said, I asked, asked Tolbert
what Dak said about how he feels like the wide
receiver room is unselfish. And I think that's that's the
that's the narrative that I want the national people to
(02:48):
pick up on this year, because that is the vibe
that I'm getting from everybody who's talking in that room.
And Tolbert was saying, you know, you have to be
in selfish in this room, and we are. He joked
about Pickens. I believe he's he played against Pickings in
high school, which I did not know.
Speaker 5 (03:02):
That that's cool.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
A little tidbit he actually said he lost to Pickens team.
Speaker 6 (03:06):
In a championship. Yeah, so that's how he remembers Pickings.
But he has there's a lot of respect there, a
lot of respect. He says, you know, this is an
unselfish group, and that what that means is I'm opening lanes,
I'm blocking, I'm giving the next guy next to me
the extra yards. It's gonna make them better, it's going
to make me better, and that it's it's all positive
(03:27):
vibes like it really is. Like I know, it's all
we get a little cliche at this time of the
year because we haven't seen anything, and I know, what
is it days?
Speaker 7 (03:33):
What is it for?
Speaker 5 (03:35):
I don't know because media was only here that one day.
Speaker 6 (03:37):
So for me, eyes, I only got one, you know,
a day on the field. But now, guys, I'm excited.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
I like it.
Speaker 6 (03:43):
He's calm, cool and collected and ready to go, ready
to prove himself.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
That's what you want.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
Yeah, I mean the scout that I spoke to said
a similar thing about him is that, you know, the
passion really just comes out on the field and sometimes
you know, after games and stuff like that. But we
talk about this all the time, and I think it
is important to remember that these are are what picks
twenty four?
Speaker 5 (04:01):
How is he baby?
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Yeah, I think he's twenty four A nugget. I mean, listen,
twenty four year old. I usual it was a miss,
you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 8 (04:10):
So it's like, so it's.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
Everyone deserves growth, reserve, everyone deserves time. But I also
think that this echoing of the selflessness is something that
when you look across the league and you see, oh god,
I hate this.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
I'm tired to say it, but.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
When you look, when you when you see a team
like Philly or you see it like these teams. Again,
the successful teams have that selflessness to how they operate,
and that's why they're hard to gain plan for, because
at any point in time, you could be planning for
Saquan and then you got Davonte Smith carving you up,
you got aj Brown carving you up, you have Dallas
(04:47):
Garter carving you up. So it's like that. That is
to me how football should be, is that you can
touch every blade of grass with different guys, and it
makes you harder to gain plan against. Now, don't get
it twisted. There's gonna be you need Pickens and CD
and Jake Ferguson to step up in these games and
be the big dogs that they are. But the fact
that this is kind of the thing, and I think
(05:08):
Shadi has said something similar to this last year. He
said he wants an offense that can touch every blade
of grass. He said that verbatim last year. And if
that's what they have to do, if that's what they
want to do, they're going to have to understand a man.
Some days, I'm gonna have it, some days you gonna
have it, and that's just how it's gonna work. And
I appreciate them having that mindset moving forward. I think
it's gonna make them a better football team.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
And to your point, A should they haven't had a
room full of guys that have the name, that have
the dog behind it, because let's face it, there's still
so many unknowns within this Cowboys offense now. But when
you get a guy like George Pickens, it's like, oh shoot,
you're ready to take a step back because now it's
not just ceedee lamb. You have to gain plan for now.
(05:49):
They can get creative. Now, they can have those special
packages with four with Turp included, like they can do
everything they said they wanted to do last year because
they have that extra guy. But I really liked when
to your point about JT talking about him, You're right,
there is an unselfishness. But there's also the word energy
(06:11):
going around everybody in their uh in their interview set energy.
It was George Picken said energy. When I asked about
the culture, was Shody, Dak and CD and JT. Everyone
used the word energy. And so, ladies, I'm gonna pose
this question to you, going with the Shoddy culture and
the energy, Why do you feel like it was necessary
(06:32):
to press the reset button? Say everything still happened. You
got the same kind of draft picks, you got the
same guys, Say you didn't have a coaching change. Why
do you think Shoddy's energy is going to be impactful?
Because again, we hear it every year, drink the kool aid,
everything is great, and then the results don't show that.
(06:54):
So why yeah, why sell me up?
Speaker 6 (06:58):
I think I think Dak was asked a very similar
worded question, like, yeah, I think it was Clarence. Actually
it was, of course, it was, hey, I don't mean
to be that guy.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Doak?
Speaker 6 (07:08):
Like, it's a vast question, and so when you hear
the same thing for years and years years, yes, I agree,
And Dak's answer just kind of to piggyback up what
the question was. He was like, He's like, I realized
that I kind of say this year after year. But
he was just like, he was like, it is cliche,
but he's like, I feel like in years past it
(07:28):
was okay, I'm focused on connecting with my wide receivers.
You know, the running backs are with them, the O line,
you know, it was offense, and then it.
Speaker 5 (07:40):
Was defense, and it was separate. He says, this year.
Speaker 6 (07:45):
We're kind of being intentional about involving all phases. There's
no group or position that is more important than the
other when it comes to me connecting with them and
being intentional. And I think we last week we talked
about Shoannenheimer talking about the activities that we're doing from basketball.
Apparently the guys are very good the ping pong table
(08:07):
that we all had to give video of, you know that.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
They're having shy he was calling them by name. I
just I guess athletic everywhere is that. It's not it.
That's fine, that's fine.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
They have time to pract That's not what I need
them to be good at.
Speaker 6 (08:24):
Yeah, right, but no, I think that the I mean,
like I said, it's it's I feel it's the cliche
talk is early, right.
Speaker 5 (08:32):
These boys don't even got pads on or nothing.
Speaker 6 (08:34):
But it's it feels like Shoddy is starting the right way,
Like at least if they go in and God forbid,
it doesn't go the right way. I feel like he
did everything to start correctly, and sometimes you got to
hit reset and just have fun and remember why why
are you doing the day you're doing? Like even in
our business, I'm sure y'all be at home like.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Who what? I like, you need the reset.
Speaker 5 (08:59):
You gotta have fun and the boys are having fun.
Speaker 6 (09:01):
And I was in that locker room y'all when there
was going another game losing my double digit can get
a touchdown like it's a field goal game. Like they
were not having fun in there. I wasn't having fun
going till I'm like, man, they're about to look at me.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Only you know having fun? Was that special teams unit,
that kicking unit specifically because he was Britton Aubrey was
keeping you in games.
Speaker 6 (09:19):
Literally the MVP, And that's not good, So I honestly
would I always I heard this and somebody asked us,
I'm kind of like pivoting and going off the track.
Speaker 5 (09:28):
We talked about a Mario Cooper for you know, potentially
bringing him.
Speaker 6 (09:31):
Market whatever his value is goes down, possibility of him
wanting to be here, Like someone asked me, like, does
that is that in the back burner?
Speaker 5 (09:40):
Like I was like, you know what, I'm getting greedy,
y'all because say it.
Speaker 6 (09:44):
I know this team has other needs, but I feel
like I'm looking at dak as this duing his prime,
and I'm looking at what he was doing last year
mobility wise, and I'm looking at what we're going against. Commanders.
They got a young fresh legs over there. We know
Jale can run the ball.
Speaker 5 (09:58):
What have you those right now?
Speaker 6 (10:00):
In our division? That is who in our realm, that's
what you're looking at. And I just I want Dak
to be prepared with so many freaking weapons that he
cannot lose. Just put him in his comfort zone. I
don't I don't want to force or see him trying to.
We know it's gonna take some time already with the injury,
But how do y'all feel about that?
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Like? Are we over over? I was never over the mark.
I I was sitting there waiting for it to start again. Honestly,
I was waiting for that train to go to uh
the Star. But to answer your question, I know I'm
not do I realistically? Do I see it happening?
Speaker 5 (10:38):
No? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (10:39):
But am I still on it?
Speaker 5 (10:40):
Am I still gonna be hopeful?
Speaker 4 (10:42):
So you rather have another wide receive it than a
That's what I'm the defense of that.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
That's what I know about a quarterback, run back, cornerback, yes,
corner a quarter.
Speaker 9 (10:54):
Yeah, I mean, yeah.
Speaker 8 (10:56):
I agree.
Speaker 5 (10:57):
I can't have it all.
Speaker 6 (10:58):
There's I'm just saying, if somebody gets cheap enough, we
know we like to save coins in this let the
math just BRANCHI I'm saying, I think.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
I want to see what he's doing on Friday.
Speaker 6 (11:10):
Andy, you up, and you up?
Speaker 4 (11:16):
Y'all need help?
Speaker 5 (11:17):
Y'all y'all crazy?
Speaker 6 (11:21):
Wait? Wait, But to answer your question, jesz, I I
could be I'm living, but could we Would it be
out of the ordinary to say.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
That I looked into those lights almost died. What if
y'all have the ordinary to say that maybe they wanted
Shoddy more involved last year?
Speaker 8 (11:47):
Anyway?
Speaker 5 (11:49):
I can see that. I can see that.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
I mean his energy, I mean even with the pressers
and how detailed he was, how much he he talks
about knowing the players.
Speaker 8 (11:58):
This is stuff he was talking about last year.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
Yeah, Like, could it have been that this energy was
something that they felt from him and wanted more of?
Speaker 3 (12:07):
Any Way, to your point, Dak mentioned how he didn't
realize that the culture and this is my word, it's
not his. I'm just spouting it, but how the culture
didn't span two the other rooms. He was like, I
was fine on the offensive side, which would make sense
to what you're saying that Shody was doing shoddy things already,
but not to the full extent.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
Yeah, So I mean talking about the reset button and
the changes where you mentioned. We can only go off
of what we see right now and the information we have,
and the information we have is that they were intentional
and building this coaching staff. They're intentional on how they drafted.
They were intentional. He came in here and was like, hey,
bab listen it that wide receivers who Anglena.
Speaker 8 (12:48):
Cut it and they got to it.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
So all we have right now is seeing that him
putting things into action and they're happening. Yeah, And that's
what I'm gonna go with. Furthermore, don't discount yourselves, ladies,
discount these folks that are in this room. Like we
read body language, we can feel energy, we can feel
we can feel that stuff. And you feel the difference.
And I think there's something to be said about that.
(13:11):
It's not as sluggish, it's not as it. Don't feel fake,
That's what I'm gonna say. It don't feel fake.
Speaker 8 (13:18):
And I think that we, like I.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Said, give you give yourself some credit as reporters, ladies
like you. Can you know some of these guys, and
if they're telling you this feels different, I feel like
I'm more involved in all those things. I'm gonna believe
them at this point because we do hear the political talk.
We do hear that the you know, you know, this
don't feel like political talk. It feels legitimately genuine in
(13:43):
the fact that they really believe in what he has
going on. And I wanted to mention to your point,
jes about energy. I thought you made a great point
about that. Jama Shoda from the New York Times, he
posted a little clip of his article and he said
that Kayr Elam, who you're familiar with, cornerback from the bulls,
the bulls, the bills.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Dang, we're really talking about that.
Speaker 4 (14:02):
They ain't doing nothing. So he said, I feel like
the energy here is something I've never been a part of. Love.
I just love the enthusiasm and energy from the coaching staff.
They actually make you feel like they care. And I'm
just gonna go on record of saying, I wait, when's
the last time we heard a player talk about the
(14:23):
energy here?
Speaker 8 (14:24):
Yes, they've talked about.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
Ooh, the building. Ooh, there's I've never seen this a
facility like this.
Speaker 8 (14:29):
Ooh, this is so like.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
This is new and fresh, but never talked about to
me the coaching staff in this way besides Dan Quinn.
And also the energy. We only heard that on the
defensive side of the ball when we had defensive layers.
So that's I think that that's something to be said
about what they're trying to do now, is that I
haven't heard a player say anything like in that realm
(14:51):
for a while.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
And you know what I really like too about this
energy is it starts these rookies off on a very
high note that maybe not all all of these players
got their rookie season, and it sets the standard and
the tone for what this team is going to be
in the long term of it. And what I really
like about it is this gives them one less thing
to worry about. They already moving here, new city, new people.
(15:15):
George Pickens talked a lot about that he was ready
for a refresh, right, But it's a lot that goes
into it for these guys. And what I really like
is that they're embracing not just you know, being cowboy
everything tails, but they're embracing the actual city itself. Can
you hear me?
Speaker 5 (15:35):
They went out a little bit, but I.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
Can hear you because you touch Oh.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Can y'all hear me now? Hello?
Speaker 4 (15:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (15:42):
There is Wow? She is commercial.
Speaker 8 (15:44):
Hey can you hear me?
Speaker 7 (15:45):
Now?
Speaker 6 (15:45):
Good?
Speaker 4 (15:46):
God?
Speaker 3 (15:47):
So, what I was saying is they've really embraced, like
the High Chris, the culture of Dallas. And that shows
me like going to Stars games, going to the playoff
games Tyler Booker probably the biggest recently, really fun and
even just like the team bonding that they're taking outside
(16:08):
of it. I know, the offensive line guys went to
a Stars game together. And yes, obviously I'm a little
biased towards the Stars, we know this, Uh, but it
is cool to see the guys going and embracing just
their city around them too, and you know, not having
to worry about how they feel when they come to
work because they're already doing that now. So anyways, to
that point, ladies, let's take our first break when we
(16:30):
come back. I want to talk about the defensive side
of the ball with you guys. We're going to talk
about expectations for Micah, what they are and how we
could see them play out stay with us. This is
girls talk, Boys talk with Berret Beck.

That's my favorite? All right. Welcome back to Girls Talkboys Talk,
brought to you by Invisaline, Aisha Morrison, bri Aldridge, Jessnavars
here getting you guys more Cowboys Talk here on this
lovely Tuesday afternoon or whenever you're listening to this. Ladies,
(19:38):
let's switch gears. Let's talk defense, because I think if
anybody or any group needed a little bit of a
reset culture wise. I think it was the defensive side
at the ball and we're starting to see that come
to light a little bit more. That's no knock to anybody.
Sometimes things just are what they are. And you know,
(19:59):
I I'm excited to see what happens for this team
to come together in that way. How are they gonna
come together? Ladies, Well, Micah Parsons is gonna be your
lion leader. Happy belated birthday to Micah by the way,
it was yesterday. What do you guys need from Micah
or what pieces I should say is needed for him
(20:21):
to not only be that successful on the field leader
but off the field leader that they want him to be.
What missing pieces are there still missing missing for him
to I said missing too uh too soon? But what
needs to be done for Mica to be successful?
Speaker 5 (20:41):
Start us?
Speaker 4 (20:43):
No, no, I guess I can. I believe that a
lot of MICA's success is going to be obviously on
Eberflus and what he decides to use with do with him.
We know that uh, Matt Ebraflus is known for, you know,
wanting to rush for and and stay true and all
that stuff. But he does have a tendency to bring
five man blitzes and things like that. I wonder if
(21:04):
we see depending on what this linebacker room looks like.
And I know we're gonna get to that later, but
the linebacker room, I believe is important because I wonder
if Micah is going to be doing if we're gonna
get back to seeing him move around and be like
that chess piece. We did see some of that last year.
Not gonna take that away from Zimmer. I thought that
he was able to do some of those things. I
hope that's something they continue what we see him play
(21:27):
more linebacker. I don't know, he.
Speaker 8 (21:28):
Looked a little light in the butt right now. We'll see.
Speaker 4 (21:31):
But I think this linebacker room and how it shapes
out is going to play a role in what we
see Michael Parsons do and what his role is gonna
be moving forward. I think he is gonna take a
step because what is this his fourth year? Third year,
fourth year, Mike fo fourth fourth, Oh my god, I'm
I feel like he just got crabby. So he's going
(21:52):
into his what fourth year? He should be taking a
step into what we can expect from him moving forward.
His grown man body, He understands the game, He understands
how things were. I think Eberflus is gonna enjoy him
in this system. So anyway, I just I think it
depends on what they want of him, because I know
eber Flus typically likes bigger edges and guys that can
(22:15):
really stop the run as well, similar to Zimmer, So
maybe we don't see him always rushing from the edge
again like we see him rushing up the middle and
stuff like last year and things like that. So yeah,
that's kind of what I see from him schematic wise,
But other than that, I think as a leader and
as a person, I think he's already taken steps to
be more involved. And even now he's handling the contract
(22:38):
situation and showing up and being around. I think that
says like a lot about him as a player as well.
So there we go.
Speaker 6 (22:45):
That's that's literally, and how you ended it is literally
what was going through my mind because I feel like
Shoddy we talked about this little bit when he's like,
is Mike have been around because Micah's made a known
you know, I do certain things and it's not like
I'm not sitting at home chilling, I'm working.
Speaker 5 (23:02):
Out, but I'm doing things my way.
Speaker 6 (23:05):
And I like that already he's not doing things his way.
On the contrary, I'm not looking for Micah to do
anything spectacular. I'm looking for Mica to come in and
be Michael. I'm looking for Micha to come in here
first week and tell us that he is like he
did last year. I believe I am the best at
(23:25):
this position in this league, and that's how I play.
That's how I face week by week. Obviously, like the
man needs to get paid.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
We know that.
Speaker 6 (23:34):
We talk about it every week. So that'll be a
very interesting story line. His training camp comes around. He
wasn't here when media was availability.
Speaker 5 (23:43):
What was that was that it was a Tuesday.
Speaker 6 (23:45):
Yeah, so he wasn't here that day. But it sounds
like he's been around, yeah, doing stuff. But yeah, he's
not too.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
Like Michael will say what he wants to say, like
without needing a media scrum, like he's gonna get his
point no further.
Speaker 5 (24:00):
Yeah, it's very much so.
Speaker 6 (24:02):
Yeah, I'm not like, I mean, schematically, he's what is
this his third different defense?
Speaker 4 (24:09):
It don't matter. He's gonna get a lot, That's exactly.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
It's going to be interesting to see if they're going
to get a little bit spicy, moving him around, like
he said.
Speaker 5 (24:18):
What did he what did he say? He was like
the the not the wild card? He mad made a joke?
Is that what he said?
Speaker 3 (24:25):
He was a joker.
Speaker 5 (24:26):
I don't even remember.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
No, it was either rainbow Uno card.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
Why the rainbow card because he could throw that one
out and it change up everything.
Speaker 6 (24:34):
Man got someone I like the old Bason, regular card sense,
but gets competitives. And that's what I hope we see
out of this defense come.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
On transition, health of competition. But I wanted to point
out too what I need for Micah. What I want
to see is and I have no doubt because you
have eber Flus, who's you know, matured. Well, well we'll
say it. I don't want to say old, right like, yes,
we're not saying that, but he's matured. He knows how
to help these players mature. I want to continue to
(25:08):
see this growth from Michael on the path of becoming
a more mature player and a more mature person. And
ultimately that happens when you're in the NFL. You come
in as a young and like you get to grow
and learn and mature. So I think them being able
to help Mica do that and become the leader that
he wants to be is just a vital part for me.
(25:28):
But let's go into our favorite conversation guys, the corner
back room. Yeah, we're still worried about it. That's not
going to change. But I wanted to throw out there
because John Machoda you mentioned him earlier, great work he
had pointed out on Twitter or I believe it was
(25:49):
on his podcast. How it might be m it will
be too late to pick up a cornerback, a good
solid cornerback if you wait until training camp, and I agree,
I agree with that. So ladies, if you here's the thing,
obviously we know if you were in charge, you would
(26:09):
go pick up a cornerback that would have already been done, right,
say they don't. Let's talk about the what ifs in
this situation, because this is worries summon. This has to
be something we discussed because of the reality of it.
Doron Bland, I see him having a good camp all
as well. It seems like with his healing journey, he
seems to have his uh, his his little spunk back.
Speaker 5 (26:31):
So that's good.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
Josh Butler still injured, Kayln Carson coming back from that
shoulder injury. Trayvon Diggs still injured as well, and I
think with Trey I'm the most worried for obvious reasons.
It's Trayvon Diggs. But how long do you have to
wait to see Trayvon Diggs come back furthermore to be
Trayvon Diggs that you need him to be? Ladies, what
(26:54):
do you do with this cornerback situation as it stands?
If you if you have you can't add it any pieces.
Obviously we're not in charge of here, But what do
you do with what you have? You pray, You.
Speaker 6 (27:09):
Pray and fast and this is I'm gonna handle at church.
Speaker 5 (27:14):
You gotta go to church. The the reality is people
get hurt. That's what it is.
Speaker 6 (27:22):
This group is very much hurt come back from all
the Injurgyes just said, we've seen him struggling.
Speaker 5 (27:26):
Uh, Kaitlin Clarson was playing on one shoulder last year.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
Right.
Speaker 6 (27:31):
The problem that I or the concern that I have
is so what I saw.
Speaker 5 (27:38):
Briefly when I stepped out there.
Speaker 6 (27:39):
Who was taking the reps with the ones Sterron Bland,
Kyrie Limb now Ka Kaye has I think a lot
of potential, but he never peaked in Buffalo, right, And
I said last week he had three different people calling
the plays defensively, like, that's tough coming for any young
(28:00):
player who's trying to get gripped.
Speaker 5 (28:02):
They had a bunch of injuries with their.
Speaker 6 (28:04):
Top two, and Kyrie had to step in during This
is a team that goes deep in the postseason, right,
and it was tough to watch.
Speaker 5 (28:11):
I'm not gonna lie. It was getting cooked just a
little bit.
Speaker 6 (28:15):
But it wasn't like he would He'd be there on
one play and he'd make a good play and then
the next play would get beat out. So it was
it wasn't like he was getting cooked every single play,
but it was very much inconsistent. So I'm hoping that
something transferred here. So right now, I feel like what
they're looking at if we had a game today, you're
looking at dram Band, you look.
Speaker 5 (28:31):
At Kyri like that's that's the reality, right, Hopeful for
one we know what the other can do.
Speaker 6 (28:37):
And like you said, obviously I would be putting more
my house had to go.
Speaker 5 (28:41):
I would put my house on durn Blair right now.
Right What Duran gets hurt, What durn blank gets hurt,
That's what I'm concerned what we're gonna do.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
Please, well, I can tell you the depth, but that
wouldn't make you feel any better.
Speaker 4 (28:53):
I mean, just gonna that's the issue. I mean when
you talk about.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
You need bodies, but you need helpful plug and play bodies.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
You were talking about, that's where I want you to
be greedy at. There's two positions that I think there's
two guys in those positions that can make or break
those positions. And I think what the cornerback room is
kyer Elon. If he comes in, he plays well, it
gives time for ravel to to you know, be ready
to play, and then also to I think Javonte Williams
(29:23):
out of the running back room is really important to
whatever the running back room is going to become. And
those two gentlemen are who I'm looking at moving forward
to see like okay, and I think the Cowboys are
doing same, like do we need to add someone or
whatever the case would be. Now, b you mentioned being
greedy earlier, and this is the position I would be
greedy at. How many times have we gotten to I
mean maybe the last three years, maybe two years like
(29:46):
that you got too close to the postseason and you
did you had to go pull cornerbacks off of practice squads,
like over correct this, over correct this. If you have
the ability to do it, I would overcorrect it. And
this is not to say that Elon can't gain that
confidence and play well here. It's not to say that
Ravel is not gonna come on later in the season
(30:06):
and be a player.
Speaker 8 (30:07):
Or whatever the case may be.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
It's not to say that, Kayln Carson, baby, who's your
nickel corner?
Speaker 8 (30:11):
You don't even know? They rotating dudes out like it's
popped the balloon.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
If I gotta look at the sheet, and I'm like this.
Speaker 4 (30:18):
Like, I'm just saying they're rotating gentlemen out of that corner,
that nickel cornerback position, specifically because they're trying to figure
out who can handle the responsibility of it. That that nickel
corner spot requires a lot of responsibility and communication. And
so it's this is a weird spot to be in, y'all.
And I'm definitely worried, and I think just I think
(30:39):
your feelings are valid as well. It was just like,
I don't know what this is gonna look like, and
we don't we have no idea what's gonna look like
now this.
Speaker 8 (30:46):
This is front four, front seven.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
They're gonna have to come on with us to help
these guys out. If this is what you're gonna run
with what.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
You got, I was just about to say, like, the
only solution you have is you put it on the
D line, and that's that's not right. It's not fair
for them to have to feel the pressure for what
they're lacking. I'm worried. I mean, if any position group
I'm the most worried about, and I think we're pretty
much all in agreeance, it's cornerback. And it sucks because
(31:16):
if they were healthy, you'd be like, if they were healthy,
you'd be.
Speaker 4 (31:19):
Like, ouepat.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
But that's the problem is that, yeah, if this is
a great set of cornerbacks, if they're all healthy at
the same time, the problem is is you're on different
schedules here too. You have Deron Bland, who, yeah, just
barely started feeling like himself again, and you saw that
the last couple games that he played. But then you're
gonna have Trayvon Diggs come back. That's great, but we
all know how long it takes for somebody to feel
(31:42):
themselves again physically and mentally post injury. You know, so
I keep that in mind. Kaylan Carson. I'm just not
sure what we have in Kaylan Carson only because you
saw very I don't want to say very. You saw
a depleted version of Kalen Carson because of that shoulder entry,
just bugging and bugging and bugging and not being able
(32:02):
to do what he needed to. Yeah, guys, I'm I'm
worried about it. It's like, see what comes about it?
Speaker 4 (32:11):
Is it like the only I will say that, I
think it's the only position. I'm just worried about it.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
It's the top position.
Speaker 6 (32:17):
It's I think I think it's on most people's list
when you're looking at depth health.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
Yes, all of it.
Speaker 4 (32:24):
I agree. It's jinkies like it's it's it's the flash
is on. You understand me? Like, I'm I don't know.
I would like for them to go out and handle
it sooner than later.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
I have a question too, because we're basing what we
saw off of last year's performance from Kayln Carson. What
do you ladies need to see from him this year
to and even in training camp. We'll go as far
as training camp. What do you need to see from
him in order to feel a little bit more confident
in what he can bring to this room.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
I just want to see him jam on the line.
I want to see him put his hands on people,
how he extends, if he's if he has any power
behind it, And I also want to I'm really looking
at his body language, his temperament. Like Kayln Carson, you
look at his college tape. I still have my scattered
report on him. This was a feisty, I'm in your
face all game type of player, not afraid to come
up and tackle, very good in the press, and so
(33:18):
we didn't see that confidence last year. We didn't see that,
you know, ferocity that he can play with, and he
wasn't as sure tackler as he normally is. Is that
shoulder going to be something that he is timid about.
Is he gonna come back and be that guy because
Ebra Flush is gonna ask these guys to come up
and tackle. It's a requirement. He's not gonna let you slide.
So if you can't do that, then you know, don't
(33:41):
I don't know if you're gonna see the field and
with Kaylen, with especially with if he is in a nickel,
which I don't know, is gonna happen. But if they
do play him in the nickel, he gotta get through trash.
He got to deal with all these freaking picks. He
got to be able to communicate. So it's a lot
to ask of him. But we'll see, Like I guess
we'll have an idea of if he's ready for it
or not sooner than later. But yeah, I need to
(34:02):
see it quite a bit from him, not that he's
not capable.
Speaker 5 (34:06):
Yeah, I want the same.
Speaker 6 (34:08):
Like if we're just talking about Oxnar, like you know,
it's right around the corner, it's going to be the tempo.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
Because he is a like if you ever just talk
to him, he's super chill, so chill.
Speaker 5 (34:18):
So I'm like, what do you say? He talks very quiet,
And yes.
Speaker 3 (34:25):
First the first time I talked to him, I was like, what.
Speaker 6 (34:30):
In college, I was very I was very quiet catching myself.
When I'm on that court, I was turned up, you know.
And I that's the that's what I want to see
from him. We're talking about just without schematically what he
can do, but I also I want to see him
with the ones and what he's doing with the ones,
Like we.
Speaker 5 (34:46):
Got two big targets. Yep, they can get in the
open field and do some damage.
Speaker 6 (34:53):
I want to see what he does against Oh yeah,
and that's right though, like talking about competition, and he
wasn't right last year.
Speaker 8 (35:02):
That's a great point. And so yeah we did kind
of get.
Speaker 5 (35:05):
A little now we got two.
Speaker 6 (35:07):
Yeah, so this Halin Clarson was going against the Jalens,
no shade to them at all. Like Tolbert was the
guy he was getting, you know, because CD was contract stuff,
so he never really from from from the from jump
when the not. I'm not saying there's no pressure at camp,
but I feel like that's the time where you get
to it's mad out and stand out, make the mistakes
(35:28):
if you weren't, and learn the reps. I feel like
he never got that in that era where you're supposed to,
you know, shine out. You're shining out against two, three,
four down the depth chart.
Speaker 3 (35:41):
But last year he was a rookie, so it's like, okay,
get that his grace, but this year you're too.
Speaker 6 (35:45):
Jump.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
There's a reason that that continues to be such a
vital football term is because you've been here, you've done that,
you're around it. Yes, new coaching staff, we understand that,
but you know, how this works. Now you understand the schedule,
you understand going to Oxnard like you don't have the
other little worries of being a rookie anymore. All you
have to do is do your homework, do your studying,
(36:07):
and go play. And to me, Caln has always been
one of those guys. One of the conversations I had
with him in locker room a while back was how
he knew at a little like young age, he wanted
to play football, like this was always his calling and
he knew it. And for me, when a guy like
that is like I want to do this, I need
(36:28):
to do this. His whole life revolved around this. You
have your shot. Now this is your time. It wasn't
necessarily last year because you had that rookie grace, But
now I feel like whatever happens year two for him
can define how often he's used. If he's your two,
if he's your three, because guess whose contract comes up
(36:49):
next year? Uh Duran planned. So you have to start
defining yourself to make a position for yourself if things
don't work out in the way that Cowboys fans like
it too. Now's the time you start doing that and
you make early impressions. So with that being said, ladies,
there's a couple other defensive positions I want to get
into after the break. Stick with us. We're talking safeties.
(37:11):
When we come back to Girls Talkboys talk, We'll see you.

Welcome back to Girls Talkboys Talk. Our last segment today
I Usha Morson Frey Aldridge, Chest of ours here ladies.
Safety first, oh and transitions are thanks thanks girl, And
in this case we're talking safeties first. We were just
kind of talking off break. Let's get back into that conversation.
The safety room general thoughts overall disappointing last year. Nothing great, right,
(40:14):
but the issue becomes when they're becoming a problem, not
so much helping with the solution. Thoughts on your safety
room right now.
Speaker 4 (40:22):
Ladies, it's a safety room. Dang oh No, No, I
wasn't try to be shady.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
I was just saying, unbrolla.
Speaker 4 (40:35):
No, I'm just saying that they are they're healthy there present.
I don't believe that they should be a reason why
you lose games this year. I would pray. I mean,
they just you have an experienced, pretty experienced group at
this point. You got Marquis Bell coming back from what
was it, It was it an elbow. It was a
baby see, I remember seeing it. He's his little elbow.
(41:00):
Marky's Bell coming back from his injury. Obviously, jan Ye Thomas,
we've been wanting to see more of him for a while.
We actually saw him get some reps in the nickel
in practice. Even know that that was interesting to me.
I didn't expect it. I unexpected. And then obviously and
now Zion Childress is someone we talked about last week.
But Elijah Clark out of Syracuse, the Rooky Safety he
(41:23):
was one of the highest if not, I think he
was the highest undrafted free agent on this roster. This
is a guy that is not afraid to come up
and tackle. He's very rangey, he's a big and physical
I think he's gonna do things on special teams. But
he's a gentleman as well that I think adds healthy
depth to this safety room as well.
Speaker 5 (41:44):
So it's it's a safety room.
Speaker 4 (41:47):
We know what to expect from Donovan and Lee Cooker
at this point.
Speaker 3 (41:50):
And that's that's it. Okay, Well to get them out
of that, it's just a safety room. What do they
need to do to raise that bar barnacles?
Speaker 4 (41:58):
I mean, well, I guess play that role because they're
gonna be running a whole bunch of covered three.
Speaker 5 (42:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (42:03):
And to your point though, like I feel like I
think if it's kind of like the on line, if
we're not talking about the on line, in my opinion,
they're doing okay. Like some both for keep talking about
the online every week, and I just feel like that
wasn't a conversation last year. So like when you were
like the safety room saving room, I kind of like, I.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
Just like we just talked.
Speaker 6 (42:22):
We had a whole segment about the corners, and you know,
I know we're gonna get to light backers, but I
feel like.
Speaker 5 (42:27):
There's other stuff that's more pressing.
Speaker 6 (42:31):
Yeah, so I think it's gonna be more of a sitback,
but it's a I think I feel a little comfort.
It's because you're looking at guys like Donald Wilson. Is
that seven years when we cook her five?
Speaker 5 (42:41):
Like I will cry, I'm not.
Speaker 3 (42:44):
Like we Cooker's nine nine, nine years. There's a lot
of experience in between just those two three and everybody
three is signed there inked up.
Speaker 4 (42:56):
Yeah yeah, and they re signed one they resigned.
Speaker 3 (43:00):
So they like it.
Speaker 5 (43:01):
Yeah, yeah, sure, depth, it's sure depth.
Speaker 4 (43:04):
You get a mix of Obviously, you know, Marquise Bell
can help you in the run, you know that Wayya
Thomas is a guy that can help you in coverage,
and again, like we talked about, do some nickel things,
whatever the case may be. You got the two rookies
coming in depth wise from a zion in Zion Childress
and Elijah. I just think that room is kind of
set and and they I'm assuming they have a vision
we had. You know over Street, David Overstreet is the
(43:27):
new dB coach from Chicago, and he did a great
job with Jayalen Johnson when he was out there. So
I think that we we should be encouraged by you
know what the room is right now and most safe
room in room.
Speaker 3 (43:41):
That's good safety room. It's a safe it's a room.
One more, one more piece of the puzzle. Here your linebackers.
We've talked about this group a lot as well, Ladies.
What concerns you the most? What are you the most
(44:02):
positive about? Just general thoughts on linebackers right now and
where the where the room stands, lots of for grabs,
green dot, question mark, communicator, question mark, leader of the room,
question mark until Uh who's team leader of the room
until until Demo?
Speaker 5 (44:19):
He was a leader in right now.
Speaker 3 (44:22):
That's what I'm saying, question mark demo, Demo. We know, yeah,
we know that, we know that you've seen that we're not.
Demo is excluded from this conversation because we don't worry
about him.
Speaker 4 (44:34):
I think that Jack Sanbourne out of uh Chicago, right, yeah, yeah, Chicago.
I believe that his signing is going to be very underrated.
I think it's kind of gone underrated. Uh again, he's
he'll set the tone for the run game. Paring him
with mayors Leah Foul and Marian Overshown's absence, I think
(44:55):
is very healthy. I thought it was very forethinking of
them to do this. I don't know what to expect
from and as Murray junior, at this point, I need
to get my eyes on him a little bit more.
And then with Damon Clark and Schamar James, both of
these guys are kind of fighting for a spot, specifically
I think at the will linebacker position. So there's some
competition in this room. The depth is there, We're still
(45:17):
not sure about it. I guess you want to say,
but if your starters, I will say, if my starters
are merely a Foul who I always thought was gonna
be your MIC anyway, and then Samborn, he is considered
a MIC, but I would assume they would have him
doing some will stuff or maybe flipped the two if
those are your two starters, which it kind of feels
like it might be, I'm not gonna die. And then
Kenneth Murray, you know, however they decide to use himself. Yeah,
(45:41):
it's it's a cheer, is still a cheer. I mean,
I don't know. I just it's his linebacker room.
Speaker 8 (45:47):
I don't do you feel better about it this year
than you did last year?
Speaker 4 (45:51):
Ladies at this because I didn't know what to say
about them, because I don't know.
Speaker 6 (45:55):
At this point, I would say no, And that is
just because it was very clear that Zimmer Kendricks was
Zimmer's guy, and Kendricks knew this new defense that was
being implemented and he was going to take the reins.
Speaker 5 (46:08):
Which he did. He was the voice and obviously he's gone.
I feel like, is he still a free agent?
Speaker 6 (46:14):
Who?
Speaker 5 (46:15):
Yeah, I've been seeing him on social media?
Speaker 3 (46:17):
I think, yeah, yeah, you haven't seen his social media
posting about his cars.
Speaker 5 (46:20):
He's doing on Friday too, Call him to to see what.
Speaker 3 (46:23):
He's posting on social media.
Speaker 5 (46:24):
Maybe if his value goes down, I think they're.
Speaker 4 (46:27):
Gonna give Marist that shot.
Speaker 6 (46:29):
I actually have so personally, I have a lot of
faith of what Mary Cleafoul can do.
Speaker 5 (46:36):
But again, it's okay, it's a.
Speaker 6 (46:39):
Not a it's like the it's the hopeful. Yes, so
it's like cool, if it don't work out, then what
So that's that's the issue. But I'm going into this
season and I think this is why linebacker necessity when
we're corners is above it because I feel like I
have the most faith in him when we're looking at
(47:00):
that player that's going into year two, because I feel
like when he was.
Speaker 5 (47:04):
Asked to step up, he did agree.
Speaker 6 (47:07):
Like I don't feel like he went out there with liability.
There was times he went out there and I feel.
Speaker 4 (47:13):
Like he's on short in some spots.
Speaker 6 (47:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (47:15):
Yeah, I feel like.
Speaker 6 (47:16):
Year two, the coaches who can are proven that they
can develop. But if you think about somatically, it is
supposed to be I don't want to say easier system,
but it's supposed to be simple, simplified than what they
were trying to do early on in the season last year.
Speaker 5 (47:32):
So I think all those things come into play.
Speaker 6 (47:34):
But I feel like the peak or the ceiling for
this player is going to be significant for this team.
I hope it's this season. I do feel like he's
not plateau, like he's going to keep doing this. I
just don't know if it's going to be at this
level and speed that you need when you don't have
an overshown in there, when you're used to having that
(47:54):
guy in there who I still don't like, I just
the tape bro. I'm like, he's going to get through
and then he doesn't like overshown is like plays with
his head on fire. We saw it was exciting, but
I think I feel like Mary Sleefol has a lot
of that in him as well. I don't know about
Kenneth Mary like reading about him and listening to people
(48:15):
who've covered him. I just feels like he struggled from
where he came from in recent years. So if he
can get on, if they can unravel the best out
of him, like that would be great. I do agree
with Ayisha about Sanborn. He he in my mind, he.
Speaker 5 (48:30):
Is the the eber flu.
Speaker 6 (48:32):
Sclu kind of how we saw with Zimmer Kendrick. I
think it's exactly what that.
Speaker 3 (48:37):
Is so and he seems like he seems for real
with the spare of other passionate players.
Speaker 5 (48:41):
So I'm excited to see what he does as well.
But again it's a little bit of the unknowns.
Speaker 3 (48:47):
Right on a scale of one to ten, ten being
like the world is ending, we are in the state
of our corner back room right now, one being I'm
a chill I'm just a chill girl. How do you
feel about the linebacker room right now?
Speaker 6 (49:00):
I would say I'm a sick I was saying, I'm
a six.
Speaker 4 (49:04):
I was gonna say I was a six. Chier like,
I can't. I can't say five because I don't want
to discredit them that much and whatever, But I'm a
six because I don't know. But I know that Chris
has told us that ibra Flus is known for his
ability to coach linebacker and that he's like a whisperer
of some short less his thing. So maybe we'll see
some development from a guy like DeMont Clark or some
(49:26):
of these yeah men who are not been and even
with a marist right, like, yeah, maybe he knows how
to speak to them, how to teach them in a
way that they get this information. And we see somebody's
gonna take a jump, we just don't know who yet.
Speaker 3 (49:38):
And you said it like E was gonna he's like
you gotta tackle how many mistackles? This don't get a
start last year?
Speaker 5 (49:45):
And I was like, what is going on?
Speaker 6 (49:46):
But I remember Micah saying specifically after one game, and
it wasn't that this dude can tackle or you know,
it's it's not the athleticism, right he's saying. He was like,
the problem is the dude on my right doesn't trust
his guy.
Speaker 5 (50:03):
And the dude on my left doesn't trust his guy.
Speaker 6 (50:05):
So when you don't have the trust that that person
is gonna cover his gap and he's gonna be where
he's gonna be, that leaves holes in our defense.
Speaker 5 (50:13):
Looks a mess. And like it made like.
Speaker 6 (50:16):
So much sense, because I feel like sometimes you're like
watching film, You're like, has this There's no, there wasn't.
They didn't have the trust in each other that that
person was gonna do their job. So that person was
over emphasizing, trying to cover more and it went to hell.
Speaker 3 (50:30):
Well we are gonna go. We're not going there, but
