Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
This is Girls Talk, Boys Talk, presented by Invisi Line,
trusted by over five hundred NFL players for their winning smiles,
and broadcasting live from Dallas Cowboys World headquarters at the Star.
Now your host, Nicole Hutchison.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
Good Morning, Cowboys Nation. Welcome to a Girls Talk.

Speaker 5 (00:35):
Boys Talk presented by invis Line. Here in the SWBC studio,
I'm Nicole Hutchinson alongside Brianna All, just Christy Scales, Aisha Morrison.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
Ladies, good morning. What's up? My god? It's that way.

Speaker 6 (00:46):
I know.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
I just said this feels unreal at his game.

Speaker 7 (00:48):
Week I literally put that in the group check it
is here, it's here, Well, it's here, It's upon us.

Speaker 5 (00:57):
Literally two days Thursday, Yes, Thursday Night Football. The Cowboys
kick off against.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
The Philadelphia Eagles.

Speaker 5 (01:06):
In Week one for the first time since two thousand
infamous pickable. And I'm going to go to Christy because
what Christy do you remember for that game.

Speaker 8 (01:15):
The pickle Juice game. I remember that the air temperature
was one hundred and eight but on the field at
Texas Stadium, it was one hundred and thirty degrees, so
it's by far the hottest game, even just the regular
temperature one O eight is like eight degrees hotter than
any other. And I remember Troy Aikman got knocked out

(01:36):
of the game. I remember Donovan McNabb and Do Staley.
Do Staley ran for over two hundred yards. I remember
that Joey Galloway. We had traded two draft picks for
two first round picks for Troy to have Joey Galloway
as a receiver that year, and he tears his acl.
It was Dave Campo's first game. But it's called the

(01:58):
pickle juice game because as it was so dang hot,
and the trainer for the Eagles suggested to his players
that they drink pickle juice to stay hydrated and keep
from cramping up. And so the interlopers, the Yankees who
came down from up North, handled the heat better than
the Cowboys, and on sidekick to start the game successfully

(02:24):
done by the Eagles, and it was downhill after that,
so an absolute thrashing at the hands of the pickle
juice drinking Eagles.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
It wasn't public knowledge then.

Speaker 8 (02:36):
I'm from Texas, and I'd never heard of pickle juice
to drink as a I guess was for the trainer
for there's another.

Speaker 4 (02:43):
Round with that.

Speaker 7 (02:44):
I was just I'm surprised that wasn't something because like
in the military, that was something that we knew very early,
Like well, that was something I knew very early, So
I thought that there would be something that would But
that's interesting.

Speaker 8 (02:54):
Yeah, one hundred and thirty degrees on the turf, been there?

Speaker 5 (02:58):
No, thank you, well, Phil, It's gonna be on Thursday
eighty three degrees.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
Hopefully the term is not football weather boy.

Speaker 5 (03:08):
What all right, ladies, Let's go through the practice report
real fast. Perry On Winfrey the only guy on that
list who did not participate. Trayvon Diggs was a full participant,
Tyler Guiden a full participant. Revn span Ford a full participant.
I just feel like I needed the extra the you know, Piat,

(03:30):
because it's like, wow, these guys are well potentially back.
No news confirmed yet if we will see Tyler, Trayvon
Diggs or Rerevan span four. But Trayvon did say yesterday
that he's about seventy percent to eighty percent sure that
he might play on Thursday.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
Against the Eagles.

Speaker 8 (03:46):
Just talk about the practice report.

Speaker 5 (03:48):
You know, how big is that just seeing guys like
Guiden and span Ford, back ladies anybody.

Speaker 6 (03:55):
Well, I think obviously it's a positive trend in the
right direction. And you want to hear like we haven't
seen Tyler Guyen, you know, all throughout that first bit
of training camp. Of course, Trayvon Digs having the season
and injury. I think those are the two that stand out.
Reverencepan Ford was in a boot just a couple of
weeks ago, so all those things are great.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
But I think unfortunately for this.

Speaker 6 (04:17):
Team going into Week one, like even if they do
hit the field, you know, it's gonna take some time
for them to get to where they need to be.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
So I as much as I want to see Trayvon Diggs,
I want him.

Speaker 6 (04:31):
To take his time to get back onto the field
because that is a group that I think will desperately
need him when you're getting deeper into the season. I
rather see a healthy Trayvon Digs and of you know,
week four or five, when we're getting into that mix,
whether than just trying to force it to get them
the Eagles and then we run everybody down. And now
our practice report is longer than what we got right now,

(04:53):
so definitely glad to see those guys trending by. Like
I said, I just feel like there's just so many unknowns,
like because because when you don't play your starters in
the preseason and now you're going against the Philadelphia Eagles
in Week one on the road, I just think there's
just so much I don't know. I just can't see
everything just starting off in bliss, especially when this is
a team when you're talking about offensively who kind of

(05:15):
trends to coming off to slow starts.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
Well, I think we can expect a slow start.

Speaker 7 (05:19):
To your point, I think we can expect a slow
not necessarily a slow start, but it is very normal
for teams to need time to acclimate. I don't expect
for this game to look super clean at the start
on either side of things. Because Philly, although they are
bringing back most of the same staff, they do have
a new offensive coordinator and Kevin patul and he has

(05:41):
worked within that building for a while as the pass
game coordinator has been promoted now to OC so if
really curious if we see changes with their team. They
also have some offensive line pieces that aren't there, so
you know, on.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
Both sides of both sides of.

Speaker 7 (05:56):
The spectrum, there are some unknowns when it comes to
guys filling in and taking up roles from last season,
things like that. So I do think that both offenses. Obviously,
Philly has their identity, they've been what they are. They're
gonna want to run the ball and that is what
it is. They're gonna play off of that. But with Dallas,
with the injuries and some of the guys coming back regardless,

(06:17):
I understand what you're saying, Brie.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
I am with the Trayvon Digs thing.

Speaker 8 (06:21):
It is.

Speaker 7 (06:22):
This is a curious thing, this secondary and us not
really knowing who's gonna pan out there or who's gonna
get the star specifically at the nickel spot.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
Depending on what they do there is going to be
ready Stewart. Yeah, they threw us a curve ball.

Speaker 8 (06:36):
I honestly think that it'll be spot play for Trayvon
unless he's had some kind of setback in practice this week.
The good news was that he was able to do
a full practice Monday. That's big after doing a full
practice on Sunday, because because the Sunday and Monday this
past week were the heavy practice days the regular Wednesday Thursday,

(06:58):
if this were a Sunday game one, and so you
could if Trayvon doesn't you could start with Deron and
Kyer on the outside, and when it's time for Nickel,
you move Deron inside and have Trayvon play outside. So
you could you could spot it that way, and then
with with a guyton coming back from his injury, I

(07:20):
wouldn't be This is just an educated guest, but I'm
thinking that he's probably going to start. But I wouldn't
be surprised. I know previous regimes coach coaching staffs would
have probably approached it where they might give Nate Thomas
a couple of series in the game, right, So I'll
be interested to see if this current staff takes that

(07:43):
same approach. So, you know, it's kind of gutten out
there to start, but then given Thomas some work and
given Tyler a little bit of a break, and maybe
not expecting him to have hopefully sixty five to seventy
plays on offense if the Cowboys can control the ball
that much. But I wouldn't be surprised if Thomas gets

(08:04):
a couple of series.

Speaker 4 (08:05):
Hey, I feel about that.

Speaker 7 (08:06):
How do y'all feel about the idea of there being
you know, obviously it makes sense because of the snap
count and having to kind of interget guys in, But
how do you guys feel about a rotation almost you know,
as they're trying to slow play guys, are you guys
comfortable with that?

Speaker 8 (08:21):
Well, it's it's not normal for offensive line, right, I mean,
it's usually you're five guys and you stay there, but
because of the injury situation and try not to do
too much. But hey, Nate Thomas got more snaps with
this group than Tyler Guidon.

Speaker 7 (08:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
I told say that's the that's the what.

Speaker 6 (08:40):
That's the crazy stat going into the game, is that
our offensive line hasn't taken any you know, live game
reps together. But I think what like Chrissy saying, makes sense.
And honestly, I think it takes a little pressure off
Nate Thomas because I mean, he was on this team
last year, but he was you know, he was injured
the whole season, so he's really a rookie essentially, So
I think it's I think it's smart. I wantn't be

(09:01):
surprised because either way, it's like, welcome back Tyler guy
and wam you're facing the Eagles on the other side,
and then the same thing for who I'm saying is
essentially a rookie, the same thing.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
So yeah, I'm schem scheme is the name of the game.

Speaker 6 (09:15):
For a Thursday essentially because it's going to be I
don't know.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
It's just like I love the NFL for scheduling. Well,
there's just a lot of uncertainty with this game.

Speaker 7 (09:25):
I mean, I think I have an idea of what
Philly is, how they like to do things. They've had
the same identity for all in ten purposes on the
offensive side of the ball for a while. Defensively, Big
fan Die is going to do his thing. He's gonna
boogie on both. For both teams, you have new players,
new rookies having a stand up. I mean, when I
look at Philly, there have been some significant changes over

(09:46):
there with their offense and with their defense. They lost
Sweat to Josh Swt to Arizona. Brandon Graham retired, CJ.
Gardner Johnson went to Houston Williams Silton Williams, who's huge
for the defensive tackle depth and what they like to
do there.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
He moved on as well.

Speaker 7 (10:04):
They lost Isaiah Rodgers, who was Darius laces backup who
is now with the Pittsburgh Steelers. I mean, so they
have seen some loss as well. Do you look at
their defensive line, their defensive in room, They've lost some guys.
So they're in this weird place too where they have
guys in the secondary. Sydney Brown's gonna be getting the
start now. Called him swiper, doing the doing the draft

(10:24):
process because sometimes you won't see him coming. I think
he has a little bit of a Hufunga from San
France kind of vibe and the way he plays, yes, ma'am.

Speaker 4 (10:35):
Yes, ma'am. A Cooper Degene is gonna man the slot
of course.

Speaker 7 (10:38):
But yeah, they have some areas as well to where
they're probably looking at their stuff right now.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
Like, yeah, they the champs.

Speaker 7 (10:44):
They about to put that ban rup, but that roster
has seen some turnover as well, and they are, like
you were just saying, breed, they have not seen their
young secondary with some of these starters in real time.
They haven't seen their offensive line that is gonna be
a little bit different now. I'm not sure about Landon Dickinson.
Didn't play, didn't practice yesterday.

Speaker 8 (11:03):
We'll camp a Nye and it's for a back, yes,
And he got hurt during camp it was for a knee,
So this is for a.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
Two different things.

Speaker 7 (11:09):
So yeah, so is he a little irritated? Is his
body a little irritated? You got Tyler Steen stepping up
at that right guard spot, You got some slow feats sometimes,
you know, like they have some changes too, So we're
gonna be I think both teams are going to be
in a light. Let's go out here and save.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
There's so many different story lines.

Speaker 5 (11:26):
A thing you can say for you know, both teams,
like you I already mentioned Naisha, I do want to
make sure we touch on this run defense first, Cowboys
run defense because there's a lot of changes. Of course,
no Michael Parsons, but you have brought in Kenny Clark,
who will probably be one tech start over Mazzie Smith.
But just talking about that defensive front and front seven overall,

(11:48):
what kind.

Speaker 8 (11:48):
Of tests do they have?

Speaker 5 (11:49):
There's this one yeah like won't fly away, But yeah,
what kind of tests do you feel like they have,
because I mean, you look at this Eagles offense who
finished second and rushing offense Withquon Barkley making history last year.

Speaker 4 (12:03):
But I mean, what kind.

Speaker 5 (12:04):
Of tests do you feel like they have starting on
Thursday action.

Speaker 7 (12:08):
I mean, it's it's tough. I mean, this is a
team that baby you're talking about that it's a it's
they're a tough team because they really are an offense.
They can touch every progress, They really can attack you deep,
they can attack you in the intermediate game. They'll work
the middle. And then also too, I do expect for
Saquon Barkley to be We got to see a little
bit more sprinkles of him in and receiving capacity last year.

(12:32):
So not only can they run the ball, then they
gonna go and add aj Dillon, who, first of all
like he gets on my nurse because he's one of
those bowling ball continuously going downhill, got your guys tired
in the fourth quarter type of players.

Speaker 4 (12:46):
So I think also too.

Speaker 7 (12:48):
What Philly does with mixing the RPO and with the
play action and being deceptive, it is gonna put a
lot of stress on your linebackers to trust what they
are seeing when it comes to Philly likes to do
because say what you want to say about Jalen Hurts,
but he will change plays at the line of scrimmage
if he sees you slacking. One big thing that the
cowboy is gonna have to do is rush contain, rush contained,

(13:11):
and to And I'm really curious about how eber Fleu
schemes up his blitzes because Jalen will catch you in
some of these blitz situations and he will run, he
will pass that, he will hand that ball off and
that's where you see some of these big runs by
Saquon Barkley. So for me, I think the linebackers I
feel more comfortable than I than I I feel like
I did before about this linebacker core. We're gonna see

(13:34):
them tested, but yeah, there's gonna have to be a
lot of discipline from your edges to trust what they're
seeing espressed with the r p O, and for these
linebackers to also come forward and rush contain, to deal
with what they how they like to like and how
they like to sneak up the A gap and do
things like that on their side of the ball.

Speaker 8 (13:52):
Yeah, I think though I was like, yeah, no, no,
you just asked what kind of fest Like I go
off brow. It's like you skip the quizzes in the midterm,
you go straight to the finals, you know. I feel
like we're just starting with the most difficult one. And
the other thing is you mentioned a Ushua did the

(14:15):
new offensive coordinator Kevin Petullo. Well, it's his first time
to actually call a game. He's never done that at
the NFL level, So it's not like you can have
any kind of track record to know what to expect
or what he may try to do.

Speaker 4 (14:29):
Same thing, same, same, same thing. No, really, they're doing
the same thing on this item.

Speaker 8 (14:34):
Here for sure. And it's interesting because Sirianni, the Eagles
head coach, and Patullo were at Indianapolis together when Matt
Eberflus was the defensive coordinator for Indianapolis. So those guys
used to sit around the table and talk football all
the time, you know, and who knew that what four
years later they'd be facing off on Thursday Night football

(14:56):
with a banner hanging well five years later. So yeah,
And the other thing is with the linebackers, I think
you're right, what a huge test for them, and they
hadn't all played together. Sanborn got work in preseason the
first couple of games, but Murray didn't.

Speaker 4 (15:13):
We ain't seeing him.

Speaker 6 (15:14):
Yeah, hopefully he's of that hot Yeah, I know, taking
a lot of chances here.

Speaker 8 (15:19):
And you're unsure what you're going to do with your
defensive backs because even if Trayvon plays, and I do
think he's going to play, but it probably be situational
and pitch count. So and the one thing that Philly's
good at establishing that run game is in possession and
just these long drives is you know, that's a lot

(15:42):
of plays that and you know how long are your
guys with the spot duty going to be able to
last before their pitch count is up? So yeah, long drives.

Speaker 5 (15:52):
They finished tenth in the NFL and third down defense,
so they obviously do a good job of extending drives.

Speaker 4 (15:58):
Will be.

Speaker 8 (16:01):
Day.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
I hope that it might not be.

Speaker 5 (16:04):
It's I to be fair, to be fair, I mean,
I can just go by the track bringing Kenny Clark here.

Speaker 4 (16:11):
Like it's God.

Speaker 6 (16:12):
I have more faith less the Lord than I did
before he was on the team.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
Amen, Because who you were.

Speaker 6 (16:18):
Kind of almost for that for that one tech, you
were almost just trying to make it sound better. And
now somebody had mentioned it and somebody said, y'all was
trying to tell me that, uh, Solomon Thomas was gonna
come in here and save the day and I was
I was believing in it, and now Kenny Clark like,
I'm ready to kick him to the curl. I was like,
that's crazy. But that's really how big of a difference

(16:38):
it is there. But obviously now you're looking at the
past rush because we're not going to act like Michael Parsons,
even though this is a defensive end room that is
you know, has been deep. We're not going to act
like that doesn't change the scope if you're asking multiple
people to basically.

Speaker 4 (16:56):
Make up for what one person does.

Speaker 5 (16:58):
And then when we're talking about stopping the run in general,
I don't even want to say stopping the run, just
contain the run, right, You're not stopping This is a
team who last season ran the.

Speaker 6 (17:09):
Ball over fifty percent of that that this is. This
is their scheme, is what they do. It's not changing.
Like you said, you know, they have a new OC
in the building or what have you, that's not going
to change. I'm looking forward to Jeff Stoutlin, the Eagles
O line coach, because that man, if you're talking about scheme,
he's going to be looking at all, right, well, now

(17:29):
his game plan has changed. Obviously there's no, Michael Parsons, Well,
I'm he's gonna he's going to be looking for the
weak part of that D line and he's going that's
going to be a test for Aaron Wycon. So I'm
looking at That's really what I'm looking at when we're
talking about coaches things like that, because that is the.

Speaker 8 (17:46):
Key to their run game.

Speaker 6 (17:48):
You mentioned long run Saquon Barkley last season seven runs
over sixty yards. I hope he doesn't warm up on
us that.

Speaker 4 (17:55):
Way, right.

Speaker 6 (17:55):
I hope he saves those for other teams. Him alone
in the backfield is a task. But I think if
you're if you can just contain them and they don't
just completely disrespect the Cowboys right up front, I think
it's there's some upside because this is this is I mean,
this is a challenge. I mean, this is there, this
is a known Cowboys weakness and this is literally the

(18:18):
Eagles offense what it thrives around. So don't let them
get too comfortable in the beginning, established in the run,
make them throw the ball. And I like a lot
of people, uh the stats of the Eagles finishing twenty
ninth in the league in pass offense, that's not because
they don't have a good pass office. Because they didn't
have to throw the ball out and when they did
it was short distance.

Speaker 8 (18:36):
It almost just meant rushing yards as they had passing
yards this year they had over six thousand, sixty two
hundred yards. They had three thousand and forty eight rushing
yards three ninety four passing yards.

Speaker 7 (18:48):
Of that, we don't know nothing about that and one
of the toughest things that well, I'm hoping we can
find out something. I'm hoping we can't get some of
that because when you I'm so glad that you mentioned
Jeff Stoutlin, one of the better offensive minds when it
comes to a run game as a ring game coordinator
in this game and what he is able to do.
Cowboys got one of them too, and we're gonna get

(19:11):
to see him come out and play a little bit
with Clayton Adams. Got to hear from him a little
bit yesterday, and I do think crazy enough, I'm expecting
to come out of this game and say, oh, Okay,
there's some similarities in how the Cowboys run game wants
to evolve and be multiple, which is something that Clayton
Adams also talked about yesterday.

Speaker 4 (19:32):
Philly is very multiple.

Speaker 7 (19:34):
It can give it to you in a lot of
different ways, and they always keep you guessing with what
they're doing on the ground. One of my biggest things
as well is the RPO. This is something that Dallas defense,
the Dallas Edges has struggled with. Even Michael Parsons when
he was here, struggled with how are these defensive ends
going to read what is going on in that backfield

(19:54):
with Jalen Hurts, because sometimes he'll keep it, sometimes he'll pass,
sometimes he'll pass it. Sometimes there's pick plays for the
tight ends to get open in the flats they got.
They got an option for an option for an option
for an option.

Speaker 4 (20:06):
Another thing, ladies, are we.

Speaker 7 (20:08):
Gonna see and because of that and because of the
RPO we didn't see it that much last year, is
gonna spy?

Speaker 4 (20:16):
Are we gonna see a spy in this game?

Speaker 7 (20:18):
Because I do believe that it it might be conducive
to do that with the Jalen Hurts and how he
escapes and how he can hurt you with your legs.

Speaker 4 (20:26):
Is that something that's something that doesn't.

Speaker 8 (20:28):
Have to be Leah foul out there? Could you do
that with Donald?

Speaker 7 (20:31):
You could do it with a safety. You could do
it with a safety, or you could do with a linebacker.
I will say that I feel like for how they
man Jay Leens is.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
A big boy. I feel he is. He's a big dude.

Speaker 7 (20:43):
Not saying that the safeties can't handle it, but I'm
trying to.

Speaker 4 (20:46):
I'm really curious to see if eba Flus.

Speaker 7 (20:48):
Does decide to go with having a spy in this game,
because that's one of the biggest things about Philly that
when you look at what they're capable of doing, and
especially in the short yardist situations like you ladies were
talking about, Man, if they get in third and short, baby,
you might as well. Just at this point the officials
need to just give them a first down, like there
needs to be a collective.

Speaker 8 (21:11):
Do not see Ohio State against Texas on.

Speaker 4 (21:15):
Christy. Don't do that with the morning show. People are
trying to get over it. They're stressed. They still stressed.

Speaker 8 (21:21):
I'm an aggie. I thought it was the greatest defensive stands.

Speaker 5 (21:25):
Of all shade from Christy to Shade.

Speaker 4 (21:28):
This is a shade tree.

Speaker 7 (21:29):
But no, no, seriously, guys, like that's something that I'm
very curious about and then when you talk about these edges,
who is going to uh, there's no more DeMarcus Lawrence
on this team. There's and and there was a respect
for DeMarcus Lawrence a lot of time. Baby, they was
running that Mica because they was running away from DeMarcus.
So for me, I'm like, who's gonna step up and
be that guy? Is it gonna be Solomon Thomas that

(21:51):
they put on the edge sometimes to help out. I
know he's a guy they trust and run support in
that way. Is it going to be a Marshawn Kneeland
that takes another step into being.

Speaker 4 (22:01):
The run defender that we think he can be.

Speaker 7 (22:02):
Sam Williams, I mean, it's a tall task and again
to stay disciplined as a young player going up against
a Philly team.

Speaker 4 (22:11):
Is going to be hard. So I'm I don't know.

Speaker 7 (22:13):
I think that they're capable, but it's a lot to
ask if these guys going into this game, especially with
no Michael.

Speaker 4 (22:18):
As you lady said before.

Speaker 5 (22:19):
Fell a lot of questions specifically around this defense as well,
and especially around the secondary. We're gonna break down the
secondary against the Eagles offense and talented to our receivers
up next to young girlstalg boy stock.

Speaker 9 (22:33):
When you're on the field, you know what it takes
to lead your team and play with confidence. But that
confidence shouldn't just stop in game time. It should follow

Boys to Men?

Speaker 6 (25:11):
Really, I'm even more excited. Love me some Boyso men
don't make me upset? Why because you look emotional?

Speaker 9 (25:19):
You are?

Speaker 4 (25:23):
Yes, I love I'm sad.

Speaker 8 (25:26):
They're actually from Philly, so that I.

Speaker 4 (25:29):
Did not know. Actually kind of like, yeah, I'm gonna
be in my feelings. That's gonna put me in my feelings.
That might get me bumped up.

Speaker 5 (25:35):
Have you ever heard that Boys to Men song with
Justin Bieber at all?

Speaker 4 (25:40):
What it sound like? It sounds so great? Just listen.

Speaker 7 (25:42):
I feel like I have I thought you, Oh, I
thought you called to do a.

Speaker 5 (25:46):
No, I wasn't that not that this might be the
high it is. I think I have heard it it's
just I listened to it all the time.

Speaker 4 (25:54):
It's great.

Speaker 5 (25:55):
All right, ladies, welcome back work. Cowboards Eagles talk breaking
down a secondary. You talked about, you know, just the
injuries that the Cowboys have right now and the uncertainty
of if Trayvon Diggs will be back or playing on
a pitch count. But you know, the Eagles do have
a talented wide receiver corps also tight.

Speaker 4 (26:16):
In Hello Dallas Goddard.

Speaker 5 (26:19):
Just talk about, you know, the pressure that is possibly
on this secondary.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
Ladies go ahead, Well, it's just.

Speaker 8 (26:27):
So tough because their run game is so good, you
have to respect it. And so with the play action pass,
it totally sets it up. And you've got two fantastic
wide receivers. Both of them are home run hitters and
certainly different body types and styles, but either one can

(26:47):
get down the field. So yeah, I'm just kind of
interested to see how they're going to play it in
the slot if Trayvon isn't going to play as much
as he hopes or we hope that he is. And Deran,
you know, I think to start the game he's going
to be flipping from outside the inside, depending on when

(27:08):
Trayvon's available. But if Doran's having to play the outside,
then it's likely going to be a player that none
of us have ever seen before, unless we were there
with the Bears for the one game last year to
see Reddy Stewart. They just picked up off of waivers
from Minnesota last week. But he's a guy who has
played slot and his one NFL career game came with

(27:32):
Chicago two years ago when Eberflus was I'm sorry last year,
when Eberflus was still with the Bears. So yeah, that's
what has me concerned. Because their receivers are multiple, they
can move them around, and they can try and create
those mismatches in the slot.

Speaker 7 (27:51):
Yeah, I mean, and then you know you talked about
Reddy Stewart listening to ebra Flus, that sounds like he
considers him kind of like a plug and play guy.
He's another gentleman that understand his scheme, understands what he
is asking for. But another edition that I think is
a little understated is John Dodson, who is a little
bit more of a shifty runner guy as well. To

(28:11):
add to that mix of that wide receiver corps. Nicole,
I thought it was great that you mentioned Dallas Goddard.
He spent a lot of last year injured and they
felt the impact of him not being on that field
because he does benefit from you know, the guys they
have on the outside and aj Brown and Devonte Smith,
but he also is a guy that they they they
focus on.

Speaker 4 (28:32):
This guy does tight end screens.

Speaker 7 (28:34):
He's a huge part of their blocking game as well,
and so getting him back I think makes a difference.

Speaker 4 (28:40):
Really curious to see how eber Flus decides to.

Speaker 7 (28:44):
What he feels like is the most important because just
like we're talking about George Pickens and CD Lamb and
Jake Ferguson, Philly's talking about the same thing, they're going
to we'll see very early on if they're going to
who was gonna be, who they're gonna look like, Who
who they're gonna look at as most important? Also too,

(29:04):
how early are they gonna test Trayvon if he's out there,
because they going to.

Speaker 4 (29:09):
Brother, you feel you feeling me?

Speaker 7 (29:12):
See you said you're feeling all right, let me see
what we're gonna see. So I think that's something to
keep an eye out on. So I believe that it's
gonna be important for this Dallash. This Dallas past rush
who we've we've been talking about and hoping to see
some things from that. They get after it to give
their secondary a chance. And I also too, I believe
that ebra Flus. I wonder what he's gonna do on

(29:34):
the back end. If he's gonna disguise some looks. Is
he gonna try to slip He's gonna try to slip
up Jalen Hurts because again I think Jalen Hurst doesn't
get enough credit for how he's involved as a quarterback
and some of the decisions he can make at the
line of skirmmers. They give him more freedom than what
people think when you are looking at him and can
you trip up this guy? Can you have him make
some mistakes? Can the Dallas defense force some turnovers?

Speaker 4 (29:57):
I mean, we'll see. But yeah, that's that. This this,
this secondary.

Speaker 8 (30:01):
It's just also tied together. We're talking about stopping the past,
but it's so tied to the run because you need
to have them in a second and third and long.
You can't be giving up four or five six yards
on the ground. They average four point nine yards to carry.
You've got to get them in longer down in distances,
or you're gonna get eaten up right.

Speaker 7 (30:22):
Which is another part of that is tackling because a
lot of their offense, their receivers yards after catch is
something that they take advantage of as well. So it's
gonna be important for the Dallas defense to also tackle
well in this game because this is a team that is,
to me, is a momentum based team.

Speaker 4 (30:39):
Yeah, and once they get on you and they're at home,
failed they're hyped up.

Speaker 6 (30:42):
They just got their banner come down like, it's gonna
be everything.

Speaker 4 (30:45):
That you don't want.

Speaker 6 (30:46):
Yeah, in game one, the NFL knew what they were doing.
They put this schedule together. But I agree one hundred
percent with what Christy said. You know, it really depends
up front, Like if you think about it, I mean,
this was a scheme where you had confident that you
could rush before with Michael Parsons, and the reality is, well,
now how does that look?

Speaker 4 (31:07):
Do you like? How many more people like who's coming
down to help?

Speaker 6 (31:10):
That creates one on ones in other places, And unfortunately,
right now, the secondary is a little bit of that's
the most I'm not call it the weaker.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
Spot, but it's the unknown spot.

Speaker 6 (31:20):
There's a lot of unproven talent, even you know the
Kaye's the training camp, you know stories, it's still unproven talent.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
We're talking about live game actions, and that's it's.

Speaker 6 (31:32):
Gonna really has some people that they could attack. So
who who are they gonna come for first?

Speaker 9 (31:38):
Right?

Speaker 6 (31:38):
Like you said, is it gonna be Trayvon Diggs come
off the injury? Is kaye Eland? Like I said, it's
just the unproven player. At this point, Doron blanched out
to him. He got paid, he got his extension. I
think it's well deserved, and I think it's a little
bit of an ease for this group because you don't
know what the future looks like. But it's I think
I think that might the motivation or that he might

(31:59):
need or this group, because I think it's well known
that he prefers to be on the outside. It's also
well known the outside corners get paid pretty well in
this lead. And now he doesn't have to worry about
his tape. Now he can just go out there.

Speaker 4 (32:12):
You want to play.

Speaker 6 (32:12):
Inside, outside, whatever, I'll do whatever you want. So I
think I think that actually makes a difference. I agree
as well.

Speaker 5 (32:18):
Let me ask you something or anybody all y'all, sorry,
does it make y'all feel a little bit more confident
though in the secondary, considering what you've seen from the safeties,
Emily Cooker, Donovan.

Speaker 4 (32:29):
Wilson, that's fair. I mean if I'm if I'm Philly.

Speaker 7 (32:35):
And I'm looking at you know, Red blanken Ship and
Sidney Brown, do I feel better?

Speaker 4 (32:40):
No, Dak be with respect, I mean Dak.

Speaker 7 (32:44):
If you've watched the games between Philly and Dallas, there
is a consistent battle between that between Dak and blanken Ship.

Speaker 4 (32:52):
He looks him off. He he he's very deceptive with
his size.

Speaker 7 (32:56):
There's a matchup there. But also with Sidney Brown, he's
a nugget. This is gonna be his first time, this
is gonna be some of his first starts. So I
think on both sides of the ball, I think Dallas
safeties have you know, are sound enough to make you
feel a little bit better about what's going on now?
Are they gonna roll coverage or they're gonna have to
help because this is a team that if baby, if
you gotta help, then somebody else probably need help to.

Speaker 6 (33:19):
And Jayleen doesn't get enough Jalen for what he does
with this offense, doesn't get enough credit like that man,
it don't matter where we're at in the game, how
close it is, even in the Super Bowl. Like hel
he looks composed through all times. He only had five
minuterceptions last year. And I think if the if the
pressure is not on him, he's gonna have a field day.
That twenty ninth offense ranking I was talking about pass

(33:39):
offense last year, it's not gonna You're gonna see why
those numbers don't matter because that man is composed, He's
in control. And I just hope that the upfront I think,
I think just everything just starts upfront.

Speaker 7 (33:52):
I'm uh, Christy, Uh, do you know who who is
gonna be starting for Landon Dickerson if he doesn't play.

Speaker 4 (33:59):
I'm trying to.

Speaker 8 (33:59):
Figure, Yeah, is it to Brett Brett Tooth or Toth
Bret Toath?

Speaker 4 (34:07):
I want to pronounce I want to pronounce it correctly.

Speaker 7 (34:09):
So obviously their offensive line is Jordan Mylotta. Sounds like
Brett Toth might be starting at left guard.

Speaker 4 (34:18):
Will keep an eye on it.

Speaker 11 (34:19):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (34:19):
You got Kim Jurgens who stepped in very nicely after
Kelsey left last year. Taylor Stein again getting his first start.
If I'm Dallas, you are where and then obviously we
ain't even We just know he's there. We know whoever
he's block and it's probably not names, probably not gonna
get called.

Speaker 4 (34:38):
Let's just let it go.

Speaker 7 (34:39):
Uh But but if I'm looking at if I'm looking
at this offensive line that's a little retooled for the
Philadelphia Eagles, I'm looking at Brett Tooth, I'm looking at
Tyler Stein. There are some places also too, where Dallas
should be able to attack. I think, uh ohso Diggie's
is gonna be huge in this game.

Speaker 4 (34:57):
I think that his.

Speaker 7 (34:58):
Pressure, his presence, and his pressure and ability to give
pressure on the interior, it's gonna be important. Perry on
Winfrey keeping an eye on what's gonna happen with him.
I think that's where I would want to attack Philly
on this defensive line, whether that's with twists, whether that's
with stunts.

Speaker 4 (35:13):
You got some too, You got two young guys on
the interior. Confuse them, yeah, stress them dudes.

Speaker 7 (35:18):
Out, like you know, bring some stunts, some twists, whatever
you need to do. But you know that's where I
would be trying to attack to apply pressure. Also, too,
are we gonna see any blitzes are we gonna see
any safety blitzes, maybe Donovan Wilson, because this is another
team too that if you are gonna get there, you
better get there quickly.

Speaker 4 (35:34):
Because they're gonna make you pay.

Speaker 7 (35:36):
So I if you are blitzing, maybe it's not so
much linebacker blitzes.

Speaker 4 (35:40):
Maybe it's nickel blitchers.

Speaker 7 (35:41):
Maybe it's safety blitzer because those guys can get there
just a little bit faster.

Speaker 4 (35:45):
Let's see what happens there.

Speaker 8 (35:46):
But yeah, this is where I wish Jordan Lewis were
still a cowboy to have him blitz. But you see,
if Freddy Stewart is a good blitzer, yeah, yeah, you know.

Speaker 7 (35:57):
Yeah that that might be something that we see. It
might be something that's necessary. But yeah, this this Philly.
I've kept my ears loaded a ground with some of
the Philly folks, and they are a bit about some
of the stuff. Well, the one guy Steen who's so
Makai Becton, he oh yeah, they didn't bring it back.
He left in free agency and got a pretty decent

(36:18):
contract with the Chargers. But this guy Steen, he still
had like over three hundred and fifty snaps last year,
so so you know, it's not like he's totally green
and getting thrown out there. But if Toth is over
on the other side, then yeah, that would be two younger,
less experienced guys in the interior in place of two
veterans who've been through it all before.

Speaker 5 (36:39):
I hope the defensive line that I hope, I hope,
I hope this defensive line makes this offensive line from
the Eagles pay because y'all see where Jordan is.

Speaker 4 (36:49):
It my lotta lot uh huh high relief.

Speaker 8 (36:54):
Yeah, and Michael Parsons ain't there.

Speaker 4 (36:58):
Well I'm not too. Yeah, everybody, I'll say that. Yeah, yeah,
I don't like that.

Speaker 7 (37:02):
I have a love hate relationship allowed because I'd be
liking you be seeing them.

Speaker 4 (37:06):
Christmas Styns, He's saying, I'm.

Speaker 8 (37:09):
A great singer. He should go out there with boys
to men. Christy's Australian, so does he know the words.

Speaker 4 (37:17):
Get away better? Not Christy?

Speaker 7 (37:20):
Please for the but not. It's weird because I'm gonna
ask you ladies. Coming into the season, we were talking
about the.

Speaker 4 (37:28):
Edge Room and we were like, come on, edge room. Yeah,
I was acting funny.

Speaker 7 (37:32):
Do you still feel heavy like I feel like that
about the droom or do you feel like there's you
gotta see it. Do you feel less confident? Maybe not
less confident, but just not as like Biggie you chest.

Speaker 8 (37:43):
Do you feel less confident that one of the top
three defensive Chris is I know, I'm just being real,
of course I'm less confident. Yeah, but and yeah overall production,
But am I confident that Dante Fowler is going to
have a good season? And you know, is he gonna
have what did he have thirteen thirteen and a half

(38:03):
last year for Washington? Don't know that he's gonna match
that necessarily twelve and a half?

Speaker 6 (38:09):
But yeah, no, really, it's a lot of everybody has
to do a little more now, so it's not necessarily like, yeah,
I'm not I'm not doing the hair flip when I
see the defensive end, uh, like I was before. Like
Christy said, like this is one of the best, if
not the best player in that position group and he

(38:30):
is gone.

Speaker 4 (38:31):
So that is gone.

Speaker 6 (38:32):
So everything, like literally everything changes. When Micah hasn't been practicing.
All we talked about was like, you know, this is
a defense that's built around him, and you just took
that piece. Now we'll say we don't know what's happening
closed doors like, obviously, you know it came to our
at tension. We saw the things trending the last week
or so. But ebra Flus might have been just planning
ahead this whole time without Micah.

Speaker 7 (38:53):
I would have, you know, I would have so even
when they were talking to him in the presser and
they were asking what is I feel like?

Speaker 4 (39:00):
What is it? Again respect to our beat, but asking like,
well is it a how is it?

Speaker 9 (39:05):
You know?

Speaker 7 (39:06):
Not having micro like I haven't had them, Maybe I
ain't never had him before.

Speaker 4 (39:10):
I'm I'm trying to see what that like.

Speaker 7 (39:13):
He's never experienced using microp parsons within this this defense,
and because he was not present at camp, looking back
at it, maybe they have been doing you got to
you can't just you can't wait for a guy to
be there. So that might pay dividends for them to
already have some planning in place and guys have their
assignments and have you know, packages already designed for some

(39:37):
of these guys like Izak who like oh so Diggyzu
like a Dante Fowler of these guys. So for me,
I don't know, I do think that that might be
a big portion of it, is like we might be
paying but they might be like we already was ready
for it.

Speaker 8 (39:50):
Yes, I think Thursday could be a real coming out
party for Sam Williams.

Speaker 4 (39:54):
I agree, Oh yeah, so pumped.

Speaker 8 (39:56):
He is so pumped. He's like the one you got
it kind of down there. He was, man, he got
Tampa down. But the thing, you know that the skill
is there. We saw it from you know, before he
heard his knee last year. It's there. But the consistency
and to be able to be able to do it

(40:16):
through a full eighteen week season including the bye, you know,
that's going to be the issue for Sam.

Speaker 7 (40:22):
Yeah, he was in the in the locker room where
you ladies. I'm sure y'all was in there. But he
was like, He's like, I'm excited, but I'm being patient.
He kept correcting himself. He kept saying, like, I'm so excited,
but I want to.

Speaker 4 (40:35):
Forget all that. He's like, he's like a nine.

Speaker 5 (40:38):
That's why.

Speaker 4 (40:40):
Well, I.

Speaker 7 (40:42):
Like, you own it, but I just but no, I'm
He's He's a huge factor to this this puzzle as well.
I think Sam Williams and Marshaw Kneeling are the ones,
like we know James Houston gonna get after it. But
Sam Williams and Marshaan Kneeland. If they can give you
some passion rush, that's going to be huge going into

(41:02):
the rest of the seasons.

Speaker 5 (41:04):
The success of this defense starts up front, but also
the success of the Cowboys in general starts with the
chess matches that they plan to hopefully win with Shoddy
Matt Eberflus. We're going to break that down in our

chess match that will be happening Thursday night in Philly.
Shoddy You got Vic Fangio, U Batulo, Matt Eberflus.

Speaker 4 (43:52):
Which one has the bigger desk?

Speaker 8 (43:55):
I think it's shoddy because you have to establish the run,
and that's a big question mark for the Cowboys right now.
That's the strength for the Eagles on offense. So yeah,
I don't I think you want to establish the run
so that you're not dropping Dak back the whole time.
Fangios graded adapting at things on the fly, arguably the

(44:19):
best in the league at that. So yeah, let's let's
get things going on the ground and make life easier
for DAK.

Speaker 6 (44:26):
I agree, Showenheimer if you try on TV right now.
It's Shoenheimer's first game as a head.

Speaker 4 (44:32):
Coach, and everything he was.

Speaker 6 (44:35):
Saying in the preseason, you know, keeping a vanilla, the
advantage of you know, no one really ever seeing what
this team can do under him, like this is the advantage. Okay, Well,
now you've been saying this. Why we've been kind of
like sitting here like this for the whole preseason. Now
I feel like show us what you've been talking about.
And then you got to think about on the other side,

(44:57):
head coach of the Eagles, Nick Sirianni. He's proven it himself,
like you know, he's he's good to go.

Speaker 4 (45:03):
So now I think I think all eyes are Okay,
what is this new head coach.

Speaker 6 (45:06):
Going to do for this team who's coming off a
seven win season, whose offense was very plateau. He has
all the weapons so offensively at least, there's really no
excuse why I can't get up and running.

Speaker 7 (45:18):
So are you sure?

Speaker 8 (45:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (45:19):
For me, it's gonna be obviously the same thing as you,
lady said. I think it's gonna be the biggest task
is going to be for a Brian Schottenheimer. Man, listen,
one thing about Philly uh and Fangio. I love one
thing I love about fangioe. He like, Hey, either you
can do it or you can't, and we're gonna do it.
And they're not gonna do anything fantasy schmancy. He even
heard some of the players talk about it, like they're

(45:40):
not going to do.

Speaker 4 (45:42):
A whole bunch of disguise and stuff.

Speaker 7 (45:43):
They're gonna play straight up and they're gonna put those
two safeties up there and they're gonna try. They're gonna
tell you to beat it, or they're gonna tell you
that you have to methodically go down the field and
not have penalties, not make mistakes, not mess up, and
if you do, they're gonna take the ball the way
to So Yeah, for me, I do think it's a
with Schrottenheimer, he's a new play caller, new head coach.

Speaker 4 (46:05):
Patients.

Speaker 7 (46:06):
This system that Fangio runs requires patients and also to
taking advantage when you can.

Speaker 4 (46:12):
I heard yesterday listening to George.

Speaker 7 (46:15):
Pickens talk about finding our spots, finding our soft spots,
and to me that resonates as they are going to
run the ball to keep them honest. But boy, if
I'm looking at I'm looking at this secondary, and I
should be They should be thinking the same thing, Philly
thinking about you should be trying to attack the secondary
because it's there's some young guys, they have some other
stuff going on. They're gonna try to make you keep
everything in front of you. They're gonna try to keep

(46:36):
everything in front of them, and so how can they
manipulate with I think Jake Ferguson is gonna be huge
in this game attacking the middle of the field. I
see a guy like Turpin being somebody that can break
that shell.

Speaker 4 (46:47):
So to me, they're either gonna have to.

Speaker 7 (46:48):
Be he has to take their spots, be explosive when
they can be patient, try to sustain drives.

Speaker 4 (46:54):
How does the Cowboys handle penalties this year? You know,
that's a big start.

Speaker 7 (46:57):
So for me, it's it's it's it's the play caller.
It's the play caller trying to get through this. And
this Philly defense carried the Philly offense for a portion
of the season last year. They have the ability to
do that. That's how good they are. If you can
score some points on these folks, I think it'll help you.

Speaker 4 (47:13):
On the other side, it is a.

Speaker 5 (47:15):
Eight twenty Eastern kick in twenty Central Time and Lincoln
Financial Field should be a lot of fun for Thursday
night football, the Cowboys kicking off against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Speaker 2 (47:28):
That's a wrapped though.

Speaker 5 (47:28):
For today's show, Nicole had to send Breonna Aldridge, Christie Scales,
Aisha Morrison.

Speaker 4 (47:33):
Will see all back here next week.

Speaker 5 (47:36):
Friday, Friday, Friday morning.

Speaker 4 (47:39):
We can do it, hopefully.

Speaker 5 (47:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (47:41):
We'll just come straight from the plane straight here hopefully
with the.

Speaker 1 (47:46):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
