Speaker 1 (00:01):
The following is a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
This is Girls Talk Boys Talk, presented by Invisilne, trusted
by over five hundred NFL players for their winning smiles,
and broadcasting live from Dallas Cowboys World headquarters at the Star.
Now your host, Nicole Hutchison.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
Good morning, Cowboys Nation. Welcome to Girls Talkboys Talk, presented
by invisi Line. Here in the SWBC studio, joined by
Brianna Aldridge, Haisha Morrison. I'm Christy Scales. Nicole Hutcheson is
doing community service work today. Thank her for doing that.
She's at one of the local high schools. And ladies.
It is a very very good morning. We are nine

(00:56):
hours and twenty minutes removed from uttered feet in overtime
at Sofi Stadium in La, the Philadelphia Eagles go down
twenty two to nineteen. First reactions, Ayisha, I know that
you were loving last night.

Speaker 5 (01:14):
Huh.

Speaker 6 (01:15):
I enjoyed it.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
I I was watching Philly and I mean again like
they've had their issues this year, but I mean the
game overall, just seeing justin Herbert's toughness, them being able
to battle out that went. It's an overtime. It was
an overtime game.

Speaker 6 (01:29):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:30):
It was irritating for me because I feel like the
Cowboys keep like pulling us in, because I feel like
I was tixed. I was like, they should have took
care of business on Sunday because they will be in
an even better position. But and it's encouraging because it
gives the guys something to continue to play for, obviously,
but also too, it makes me feel happy inside to
see Philly's downfall, regardless of what.

Speaker 6 (01:51):
Day it is.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
So that's how I felt about it. I can't wait
the time on Philly Radio when.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
I get curd a little dose drive in early this
morning on one oh five to three of the Fan,
which is our station here in Dallas, the flagship station
for the Dallas Cowboys Radio Network, and the postgame show
from the Whip. Last night for up there in Philly
and Brie. It it wasn't kind. It was they were

(02:16):
not tossing bouquets.

Speaker 7 (02:18):
I got to get a little I think we listened
to the same thing good. I've turned it on the
perfect I said, let me just see what's going on. No,
it was hilarious because the Super Bowl MVP.

Speaker 8 (02:29):
They want to draft a QB.

Speaker 7 (02:31):
Just in case you haven't tuned into Philly radio, they
are over Jalen Hurts. They're over his to himself vibes
on the sidelines, which, to be fair, when.

Speaker 8 (02:42):
You look, he is by hisself.

Speaker 6 (02:45):
I saw that on the what is it hard knocks?

Speaker 7 (02:49):
Yeah, He's like, I don't know, Like it's so crazy
because this isn't the first year that you've heard about
what's going on internally, but they just haven't bambady together.
And I think you're just starting to see it coming to,
you know, existence, because unlike you know, when you're looking
at what we.

Speaker 8 (03:07):
Have, you have two number one wide receivers who you
thought there was going to be all this conflict and
their buddy buddies.

Speaker 7 (03:14):
Yeah, and even when Pickens has this off games, Dak
is up there, like you know, it is what it
is like.

Speaker 8 (03:20):
He's still a great player.

Speaker 7 (03:21):
If you ask him. I'm sure he wants some things back,
as we all do. But we move forward.

Speaker 8 (03:26):
They don't have that over there, even the with the OC,
like everybody seems like they do.

Speaker 7 (03:31):
Not like it, and it just doesn't work when you're
trying to win football games. And it's crazy because if
you look at what we were talking about the beginning
of the season, this was one of the best still is,
in my opinion, one of the best stack rockters. But
it doesn't matter if you're not in sync, Like this
is not a one man type of game.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
Five turn that's five giveaways. Hurts had two turnovers on
the same play. Throw it's an interception. The guy who
intercepts the ball starts to return it, gets him, fumbles it.
Jalen Hurts grabs it, so Eagles have the ball back.
Then he fumbles it and then the Chargers recover it.
So yeah, it was it was. It was three three
takeaways on the same it was the same play, but

(04:10):
it actually counts two against Hurtz. But yeah, I tell
you though, the Eagles defense, who oh yeah, they play
some oh lights out sacked Justin Herbert seven times. You
referred aisha to Herbert's toughness. Of course, he's playing with
a broken bone in his left hand, non throwing hand,
but just to take a snap and just to try
and defend yourself, let's just say that. And he did

(04:32):
run quite a bit. His legs. Herbert's legs were a
factor in the fourth quarter and over time to extend drives.
But he was not stiff arming with that left arm
for sure. But there there. I just want to say
that there's one kicker in NFL history that has a
better average than Brandon Aubrey and he's from University of

(04:54):
Texas and he plays for the Charger Chargers, Cameron Dicker.
Dicker the kicker. Yeah, field goals last night, money money
money at the end of the game, descend it to overtime,
and then kick the fifty plus yard field goal in overtime.
So the Chargers got the ball first, and no, not
everybody could stay up late to see the end of
a Monday night game. The Chargers got the ball first

(05:15):
in overtime, drive down the field, but have to settle
for a field goal, get it to Philadelphia. Philadelphia's facing
fourth and four, just beyond right at the edge of
field goal range for their kicker, and so they decide
to go for it on fourth and four and get
an off sides call a penalty. Jalen Hurts uses the cadence,

(05:38):
draws Charger defensive linemen off sides. They get a fresh
set of downs and I'm like, dang it. The Eagles
are gonna do it against Chargers penalty and then what
four or five plays later, interception at the two yard line.
So it was glorious, and it was glorious. But the
main thing is it's not just reveling in miss for

(06:00):
Eagles fans today. It's the fact that the lead in
the NFC East for the Eagles over the Cowboys is
cut down to one and a half games with four
games to play, and more importantly, if the Cowboys somehow
can come back, they do have an edge in division
games and things like that. But I think the way

(06:23):
into the postseason for the Cowboys is not through the
wildcard because there's just too many teams in front of
you with superior records. I think the best way in
the postseason is to actually win the division. So you're
going to need the Eagles to lose a couple times.
First they host the Raiders, then they've got the Commanders,

(06:45):
and then Buffalo, which is going to be a tough
game because Buffalo is going to be playing for their
playoff lives, and then the Commanders again. So, Bree, what
do you think do you have faith that the Cowboys
might be able to catch the Eagles? Based on and
I'm talking about no from the Eagles play. Yes, from
what they have remaining on their schedule and what we've

(07:07):
seen in their skid. They're losing skid.

Speaker 7 (07:10):
I will say, before I watched last night, I was like,
I didn't really, it just seems.

Speaker 8 (07:17):
Too far out of reach.

Speaker 7 (07:18):
But I mean, if the Eagles just continue to shoot
themselves in the foot and just fall apart, And it
wasn't that long ago that they ended their season with
five straight losses, so it's it's possible. That's why I
tweeted after a girl was like, so you're saying there's
a chance.

Speaker 8 (07:33):
I saw that.

Speaker 7 (07:34):
It's just fun to go out there and still have
a little glimmer of hope, even though I know some
of the YouTuber content creators have already started to shift
away from the Vikings into the draft. I'm not there
yet one hundred and ten percent. But realistically, the Eagles
have to drop two more games, the Cowboys have to

(07:54):
win out for it to go. Is it possible. Yes,
But then I'm looking at the schedule, looking at them
facing the Commanders, who might be without Jaden Daniels again.

Speaker 8 (08:05):
They have them twice the Raiders.

Speaker 7 (08:08):
Now you guys know, I grew up a Raiders fan,
not by choice, I grew I was born into that life.

Speaker 8 (08:13):
We've seen what the Raiders have been doing. So really, the.

Speaker 7 (08:16):
Bills I think will be one and then it's like,
where do you get that other loss from?

Speaker 8 (08:21):
Are they that bad?

Speaker 4 (08:23):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (08:23):
The Commanders are a division opponent. You got to pay
them twice. There's familiarity here.

Speaker 8 (08:27):
Say it's hard to be the team twice, even in
three weeks.

Speaker 6 (08:31):
Yeah, in three weeks.

Speaker 5 (08:32):
And then also too, I mean when you talk about
the Commanders, I mean they are trying to find some
confidence coming off and we're gonna have to talk about it.
I'm sure coming off this huge loss to the Vikings
where they shut them out, you know. So, I'm sure
with dan Quinn was here for quite some time. I'm
familiar with his attitude and stuff. I wonder if he's
able to rally those guys and get behind those guys

(08:55):
to finish the season on a good note after having
kind of a rough year.

Speaker 6 (08:59):
So that's it. That's what it is for me.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
And with Philly, you said it like when I hear
when I think about Philly, I just see post alone
with the microphone tats on his face, and fuck, that's
what I think about every time, Yes, every time.

Speaker 4 (09:15):
I was singing sand superch I know they moved to La.

Speaker 6 (09:22):
But every time I see something bad happen with them.

Speaker 5 (09:25):
I just hear that little I fall a part of
my head. But their offensive line has struggled this year.
In Philadelphia. You mentioned the defensive defenses played phenomenal football,
but that offense is just abysmal and it's been like that,
and I think it has a lot to do with
what you said. We heard the broadcast said multiple times
last night. They their timing's not in sync. They seem
out of whack. They don't have a rhythm. And at

(09:48):
the same thing we're saying about the Cowboys about like
the defense and different stuff where you like, dang, like.

Speaker 6 (09:53):
This has been going on all year.

Speaker 5 (09:55):
Should we expect for it to just change and over
the course of four weeks.

Speaker 6 (09:59):
I feel same way about Philly.

Speaker 5 (10:01):
They've been like this all year and now it's starting
to catch up. It's been catching up with them this
last three games. They're inconsistency and their inability to sustain
drives on the offensive side.

Speaker 6 (10:11):
Of the ball.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
I don't care, Yeah, It did scare me. When Saquon
had the fifty two yard touchdown run, he looked at me,
So yeah, he finished with over one hundred yards, and
I'm just kind of surprised that they didn't stick with
the run a little more late in the game, But
all right, hey, that's their problem. It is odd, ires,
but the bottom line is it's a little glimmer of hope,
little more of a glimmer of hope for the Cowboys

(10:34):
to hopefully catch them in the NFC East. And then
the Chargers with their big win are They're still second
place in the AFC West, but they are tops among
the wild card contenders, so that it's a big thing
for them, great win. So I tell you what, one
of the things that I like about Tuesday morning and

(10:56):
the opportunity to come in and be here with you, ladies,
is the chance to review what coach Schottenheimer had to
say in his Monday press conference, because it's the first
time he did with a Thursday game at Detroit. He
did have a conference call on Friday, wasn't too long.
The conference call is just strong as good as the
in person. So Monday you can be even a little

(11:17):
more reflective and actually spend a little more time looking
forward to the upcoming opponent rather than reviewing what happened
four days before. So, Brit, let me start with you,
and what were some, if anything, among Shotty's comments that
stood out to you.

Speaker 7 (11:34):
I'll just say, listening back to it, everything that we
pretty much discussed and what stood out to us. I
like how he just stood out there and said, you know, Nate,
Nate Thomas and his second start. Yeah, he struggled. You know,
there's some stuff that he has to do better. He
has to stay square longer. This is a three hundred
and thirty pound guy. He can't be moved out of

(11:56):
his spot, like he was, Like, he's just straight up
like that can't happen. But he knows there's going to
be bumps and bruises. I like that he gave his
credit to Flinoy about where he's come, how he's improved
as a route runner going into his second season.

Speaker 8 (12:10):
I believe here as well.

Speaker 7 (12:11):
And then he mentioned gutting in Clowney talking about their
games and how their's possibility kind of seeing where they
could be this week. I think you really missed them
last game. I know there's some people with gout In.
I think you want gutt In back.

Speaker 6 (12:25):
Yeah, which sure.

Speaker 7 (12:25):
Also, let's we could wrap that one up and then
Clowney He's he was a huge piece to not only
your pass rush, but your run game or your run defense.
So I think having those two back and seeing where
they're at the Digs thing, I'm like, I want to
see what happens with I want to see if Diggs
makes his way back.

Speaker 8 (12:43):
I think that.

Speaker 7 (12:43):
I know a lot of people are kind of brushing
that off. He's gone for six games, but I think
if we're talking about the Eagles falling down and the
Cowboys making this big run at the end and they
got to win out, I think Diggs is going to
be a big part of that as well. And also
we talked about yesterday special teams. He did not hide

(13:04):
away from the special team. Love that, Yeah, I was honest.
The accountability, I think that's what I respect about Schottenheimer.

Speaker 8 (13:11):
He doesn't try to say like.

Speaker 7 (13:11):
Oh, like we got to look at this or I
think no, He's straight up like it's not good enough,
like the coverage is good enough. And what stood out
to me is when he said there could be some
personnel changes.

Speaker 4 (13:22):
Yes, yeah, that was like little little flash bulbs going
off there.

Speaker 8 (13:26):
Yeah, Like I was like, that's when they started, the
puzzles started.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
So yeah, what stood out to you? Well?

Speaker 5 (13:33):
Can I ask some questions about the special teams see
ladies really quickly? Do you think that obviously new coach
Sorenson all those things like losing bones fossil was a
huge deal. I think that that's something that like we
haven't talked about enough. But in regard to the special teams,
you think because you're having to allocate some of these
guys that would normally be full time special teams guys,

(13:56):
but they're now playing defense like you now need them
on defense. We think about someone like Ryan f Illinoy
who now, especially in this past game, is becomes a
focal point of the offense with Ceedee Lamb going out.
Do you think it's because of you know, some of
those guys having to be involved elsewhere or do you
think it's just this is just how it's falling.

Speaker 6 (14:13):
Does that make sense?

Speaker 4 (14:13):
Yeah? No, I think it's a it's a great question,
but honestly, the personnel part of it and guys getting
pulled off to teams because they're playing more on defense
or offense or becoming starters whatever. You face that every year,
every year, and it does have an effect though not
an excuse, but but but a reason. I you know,
c J Goodwin did speak yesterday. He was one of

(14:34):
the few Cowboys that that spoke to the media yesterday.
And poor CJ, captain of the special teams along with
Brandon Aubrey. People only go to CJ when there's problem,
and so the media went to him yesterday and he
was straight up with it and then and he said,
it's about leverage and it's about staying in your lanes.
Leverage just means, you know, he said, he said, we

(14:56):
got to stay lower, We got to keep our pads lower.
We can't give up leverage, and we can't leave our lanes.
And so, Ayisha, when you say, is it personnel and
guys getting pulled off, that's a reason, But the main
reason is the fundamentals of coverage, which is leverage and
staying in your lanes. Yeah, okay. So and we'll get

(15:20):
a chance to talk to to more of the guys
throughout the week. You know. In the return game, I
still say, you know, Cavante just hasn't had the season
that I think we were all hoping for that are
up to the standards that he set in the first
few years. So it's not just kickoff coverage that you
can you can kind of pick on. But the reason

(15:41):
why it was left a shoddy to talk about it
is that Nick Sorenson, he and the other coordinators will
speak to the media on Thursday. It'll be the regularly
scheduled time, so I'm sure he'll be peppered with questions then,
So tell you what.

Speaker 8 (15:55):
We're gonna take.

Speaker 4 (15:56):
Our first break, and then when we come back. Ayisha

Friday and Saturday evenings, weather permitting. All right, here we go, Ayisha.
We promised everyone some breakdown film from you regarding the Vikings,

(18:55):
and let's start with their young quarterback JJ McCarthy, who
had a real good game and they're win on Sunday,
but overall, I guess an uneven season. But what do
you see on film with McCarthy.

Speaker 5 (19:08):
Yeah, I know we're keeping a short and suit when
it comes to just kind of talking about the quarterback
a lot. But you know, I think it has a
lot to do with their offensive line kind of being
in limbo. I mean, Darris Saul has not been out there.
It's one of the best tackles in football, and I
think that that matters.

Speaker 6 (19:22):
When you look at their offense.

Speaker 5 (19:24):
I think the loss of Cam Akers to his injury
has played a role.

Speaker 6 (19:27):
Their lack of.

Speaker 5 (19:28):
Run game efficiency has been huge. Mason is a gentleman
that has been toting the rock for them. Jordan Mason
has been toting the rock for them the most sixty sixt.

Speaker 6 (19:37):
Ds on the year. When you look at J McCarthy,
he's always been like this.

Speaker 5 (19:40):
It's so funny to see people talk about him and
stuff because you will watch him. I remember watching film
on him in college.

Speaker 6 (19:45):
You'll watch them one game and you're just like, dang,
this duke's laying no rap.

Speaker 5 (19:49):
He'll take chances. He's you know, he's very confident. But
then when you look at like as he gets into
the NFL, he's having to read defenses, He's having to
pick up on you know, tendencies, he's having to pick
up want blitz, navigate the pocket. And I think that
he is still learning how to play under control ladies,
which is why you know, he has ten interceptions on
the year and only nine touchdowns. So when you look

(20:10):
at him, it's really the processing and also to be
overly confident in his arm what do they call it
arm arrogance is a guy that thinks he can.

Speaker 6 (20:18):
Make every throw.

Speaker 5 (20:19):
I think he shows and again you see him this
past week. He showed he can do that. He showed
he can deliver the ball all over the field on time.
But are you gonna get that consistently with him? Fundamentally,
I think that's been a huge reason why he has
not been able to consistently, you know, get the ball
to these amazing receivers on the outside. Obviously, you have

(20:40):
a Justin Jefferson, you have a Jordan Addison that you've added.

Speaker 6 (20:43):
TJ.

Speaker 5 (20:43):
Howkinson, to me, is one of the underrated tight ends
in this game. But their offense is heavily predicated on
the pass, and you're putting so much responsibility right now
on a young quarterback. And I think that that's kind
of what you've seen with the up and down with
them this year.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
Yeah, heavily predicated on the pass. But they've got the
best wide receiver in the league and Justin Jefferson. So
you mean, you can argue for Jamar Chase and Cde Lambs,
you can, you can argue, but Justin Jefferson get in
the last two games has it combined four catches. But Breeze,
he's not He's not a guy that's complaining or anything.
They got the win and he's saying the right thing.

(21:21):
But it must be frustrating.

Speaker 7 (21:23):
No, Yeah, and I think I know, I think they
know what they have in their QB.

Speaker 9 (21:27):
Right.

Speaker 7 (21:27):
This is a guy who didn't even get to see
the field in his first season because yes, you know,
in the preseason he was hurt, So they know what
they have, and I think the question is when those
those first six starts right, ten interceptions, that's insane stat
there already think he's like literally dead last in the
league when you're talking about interceptions. But they they got
rid of you know, they went out with the old,

(21:48):
got this fresh, and it's just not working out. Sam
Donald's having He's thriving in Seattle, right, and so they're
looking like, oh damn, they make their own decision here, right.
But I also think that listening to you know, they
just shut out.

Speaker 8 (22:05):
They just thirty one zero.

Speaker 6 (22:07):
They're watching commander.

Speaker 8 (22:08):
Why I forget that commander.

Speaker 7 (22:09):
But when I was listening to the radio people, they
were showing snippets of what coach was saying and what
they did. Differently, and ironically enough, when they were at practice,
they went away from the fundamentals and they just focused
on more of what they wanted to do in this
game and got that didn't put a lot of emphasis

(22:32):
on fundamentals, and I think that just allowed him to
play free. I think he was thinking a little bit
too much, and like you said, going back to his
college tape, it's kind of like that risk reward type
of thing, and they just let.

Speaker 5 (22:41):
Him be fine last week and that's that's exactly what happened.

Speaker 7 (22:45):
And they're talking about, you know, don't let the score
fool you. This wasn't a perfect game. There was some
times where he could have thrown that ball away more
than once. But I think the difference is that they
weren't nitpicking. Like we know, fundamentals is a part of
the game, right, but I think when you focus so
much on it and you're still making the mistakes, well
let's try something different. And I mean the Commanders didn't

(23:07):
help themselves out in that situation either.

Speaker 8 (23:09):
It wasn't perfect.

Speaker 7 (23:10):
Like I said, the score doesn't really reflect everything that
happened in there. But I think he's got I think
he gave the Vikings a little bit of hope. And
then they're kind of in the same situation, like they're
not out of it, but they know.

Speaker 4 (23:22):
Well they have a less than one percent chance. Yea,
are they mathematically eliminated, No, but literally by the.

Speaker 7 (23:29):
The flyer from NFL hasn't been released, but they pretty
much know what it is. But there's so much life
over there because again they had this quarterback who they
think is going to know be the franchise quarterback in
the future and they finally saw what they what they
got him for because they couldn't get you know, he didn't.

Speaker 5 (23:46):
Play that Yeah, and he's and he also dealt with
injury this year, so he's also too, just.

Speaker 6 (23:50):
Trying to get into a rhythm, just trying to get
in sync.

Speaker 5 (23:53):
I want to also miss and Aaron Jones is a
part of their run game too.

Speaker 6 (23:56):
I mean, seventy six yards on the game that hurt.

Speaker 5 (24:00):
Yeah, and he's been banged up, but he's he's just now,
like I mean, he's trying to. I think he's trying
to get back. So I'm trying to I'm just looking
at their run game. When I was looking at their
run game, it's not very creative, it's not very flashy.
It is more straight up and they're really relying on
those guys Mason and Aaron Jones, like when Aaron was
healthy to kind of break through and stuff.

Speaker 6 (24:19):
And it's just not enough to me to really support
what they're trying to do in the past.

Speaker 5 (24:23):
The offensive line, although they have their issues, there's still
one of the better units, I guess you want to say,
but he runs himself into so a lot of these
sacks he has, he's running himself into because he doesn't
want to give up on the play, which works to
me in the Cowboys favor. And when you talk about
what comes to mind when you talk about the Justin
Jefferson thing where he's not getting the ball as frequently,
it's because people are allocating they're allocating resource to stop him.

Speaker 6 (24:47):
And a young quarterback.

Speaker 5 (24:48):
One of the things you'll see with a young quarterback
is that anticipation, throwing guys open, learning how to place
the ball, all that stuff. And I think that there's
times on film, well he'll see him it's not open
enough to where he's I don't think he's confident to
place the ball where he needs to place the ball.
For Justin Jefferson, they're both still obviously trying to get
on the same page, but they have had games where

(25:11):
they have.

Speaker 6 (25:11):
Looked a little bit more in synct to me.

Speaker 4 (25:13):
Yeah, and boy, that wide receiver corps still scares.

Speaker 2 (25:16):
The heck out of me.

Speaker 6 (25:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (25:17):
And all this, although McCarthy's been at least with the
win over Washington, relied more on the tight ends, certainly
in the red zone. All three of the touchdown passes,
by the way, McCarthy and that win. We're actually tight ends.

Speaker 5 (25:31):
And they're eight the eighth in the in the NFL
in red zone touchdown. So this is something that they
are able to do when they get down there, is
that they're able to actually punch it in and score
points when they get down there. It's just in between
the twenties. Sometimes there's so much inconsistency.

Speaker 4 (25:47):
Yeah, that's where you know, they had a ninety eight
yard drive that went nineteen plays, a ninety eight yard
touchdown drive against Washington. So but again, I think part
of that. You mentioned that the line overall has played
pretty well well considering that they had only had two
games where all five of the starters were together and

(26:10):
had twenty three different line combinations.

Speaker 6 (26:13):
It's been the first crazy weeks.

Speaker 4 (26:16):
So but anyway, but they're, you know, they're feeling a
little better about themselves. Coming in on Sunday night, we'll
tell you what we're going to take our next break,
and then on the backside, Josh is going to come
in for me. I'm sorry that I have to excuse myself,
but going to get to hang out with Brandon Aubrey
and DeMarcus ware in a little bit for an event
our friends with Bank of America and a couple of

(26:37):
soccer stars Clint Dempsey and Kroy Bethune. So we've got
some really cool things coming up with some local school
kids that I'm going to run to. But Josh is
going to join Brie and Ayisha. They'll be together right
after this.

Speaker 2 (26:52):

Speaker 16 (30:20):
Yeah, he's talking cowboys.

Speaker 6 (30:25):
You're multifaceted.

Speaker 16 (30:26):
Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
I love that.

Speaker 6 (30:27):
That's exciting.

Speaker 5 (30:28):
I love that.

Speaker 8 (30:29):
Dang guys, you guys both have cowboys stuff on. I
just realized this is.

Speaker 16 (30:32):
Well, this is uh Dallas Cows podcast after all.

Speaker 8 (30:36):
Listen for certain reasons.

Speaker 6 (30:39):
Right now I'm pointed to the wrong side of my star.

Speaker 8 (30:43):
It's okay, girl, but I can I correct myself.

Speaker 6 (30:45):
I wanted to say that Christian.

Speaker 5 (30:47):
Dere Saw, I think is having a not his best
year at left tackle, coming off of the major injury
at last year.

Speaker 6 (30:55):
I think you just kind of getting in a rhythm
and stuff.

Speaker 5 (30:58):
He's not as powerful right now, and I'm sure you're
still trying to get faith in all that stuff. But
I don't know if Dallas can take advantage of that.
But that was something that I also noticed when it
came to their offensive line, is that they've had a
whole bunch of different rotations and stuff. But him in particular,
I think he's still trying to find his legs, which
is normal. We've seen it with Chance Still, We've seen
it with other players, like coming back from a major injury.

Speaker 9 (31:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 16 (31:18):
Absolutely, there's a lot to come back from. I have
to ask you, guys, because I don't know if you
talked about it necessarily in the first two segments, because
I see it a lot in the comments and a
lot of people are asking about your thoughts on the
Eagles game last night.

Speaker 8 (31:30):
Oh yeah, we did talk about it this morning after that.

Speaker 7 (31:33):
I was like, Josh, I don't know if you heard,
but there was a lot of smiles here happening. And
I love Twitter, by the way, during anytime the Eagles
play and they're losing, it's hilarious.

Speaker 16 (31:41):
Nobody hates their own team much like the Eagles, but
the Cowboys fans are pretty close. They hate their own
team as well.

Speaker 7 (31:48):
Okay, well, I'm glad you asked that, Josh. We want
your insight because you missed our first segment. We went
in a little bit. Yeah, but Christy left us this
question to ask her way out, so we're gonna do this. Yeah,
she wants us to finish this sentence. I'll start with, Josh,
the Cowboys can run the table and stay in contention

(32:09):
for the postseason. If you got to fill in the blank.

Speaker 16 (32:13):
If yes, they win every game. If well, the Eagles
have to lose two more, right, that's the goal. Yeah,
and they're playing Buffalo. Buffalo is on their schedule, and
they have two Washington games on their schedule upcoming.

Speaker 6 (32:29):
Yes.

Speaker 16 (32:31):
Simply put, I feel like as long as the Eagles
continue on their current trajectory, I think that the Desk
always have a chance to make the postseason. Another big
thing with that that was you you really cannot drop
any more games, and you have some tough opponents on there.
I mean, one of the teams that won last night,
the Los Angeles Chargers, are on your radar. That's probably
the toughest matchup that you have forthcoming. Not that you

(32:54):
can scoff at the Vikings who just shut out the command.
So to me, you have to be playing sound football.
You cannot beat yourselves. That is the through line for me.
A lot of what you saw against the Lions wasn't
necessarily what the Lions were doing to you, but it
was what the Dallas Cowboys were doing to themselves. And

(33:16):
the tackles have to play better. That is where I'm at.
The tackles have to play better.

Speaker 7 (33:21):
I like the fact that Josh kind of did what
I did. I at least mentioned the Raiders. He said
they got the commanders.

Speaker 5 (33:27):
They through.

Speaker 8 (33:29):
Yeah, we know what the Raiders can do. What are
they two and nine? I don't know.

Speaker 7 (33:35):
Yeah, you kind of agree with that though, I should just.

Speaker 5 (33:39):
Yeah, I think a lot of the Cowboys success to
you Josh's point, Well, first of all with Philadelphia, they.

Speaker 16 (33:49):
I mean, like I said, as long as there can
continue on that trajectory like.

Speaker 8 (33:53):
Cool, yeah, because it's just so there is.

Speaker 5 (33:55):
A lack of like you can see it in their
body language and stuff. It's not just Okay, these guys
are more talented than the other guys that they're lining
up across. It's not just about that, like the defense
balled out yesterday, for them, it is offensively them not
being able to sustain drives and there being so many
issues especially to what is this man's uh is landon
Dickerson because we were just talking about dicketr kickerro but

(34:20):
he's been playing banged up all year. I mean I think,
I mean they he went out yes Shay with a calf.
Like I know, I've been listening to their fans like
this offensive line for Philly is also banged up too,
and so I'm just like, yeah, I think that they
could drop two games, one being to the Buffalo Bills
and another being to a division opponent that's maybe trying
to get their last win of the season and just

(34:42):
end on a good note. I'm sure dan Quinn, like
I said earlier, is going to have those guys ready
and inspired to play with the Cowboys. The Cowboys success
is very much predicated. I know, we want to talk
about the defense, and everything is very much predicated on
how well this offensive line plays. They have not been
as efficient as a run blocking team in this last
what six weeks, even though they have been able to

(35:04):
put yards on the ground and things like that, the
efficiency has not been there For me. And obviously Josh
mentioned the tackles playing better to get the Cowboys want
to If the Cowboys want to run the table. If
the Cowboys want to win these games, it is heavily
predicated on this offensive line and this run game getting
going and being a little bit more. I feel like

(35:24):
the run game has been a part of the game,
but it is not like you're not winning the game
because of the run game.

Speaker 6 (35:30):
Right now, does it make sense?

Speaker 5 (35:31):
Like, don't I haven't feel like han't felt like they've
taken over a game and just dominated on the ground,
which we did see in certain instances during the year.

Speaker 6 (35:41):
So anyway, Yeah, the tackles, the offensive line.

Speaker 5 (35:43):
Dallas will win out if the offensive line plays better football,
and Philly will lose out if they keep doing what
they're doing right now, which is looking dusty.

Speaker 8 (35:52):
Concur about looking dusty. I mean, I'm sitting here.

Speaker 7 (35:56):
I never really prayed for another team's downfall. I don't
know if it's because I'm just I'm linked, I'm locked
into Cowboys Nation or what, But I mean, you are
hoping the right The Eagles keep doing what they're doing
to themselves, self inflicted wounds throughout the defense though it's
so good now, it's just I mean, we're the opposite,
So I understand that, understand it we've been dealing with

(36:17):
the same thing. We had a little three game flash
where it's like and it's back you know to.

Speaker 16 (36:21):
But their defense is a championship caliber defense. There's no
doubt about it.

Speaker 6 (36:25):
It's that good.

Speaker 7 (36:25):
But the thin is it, the run game isn't what
it was last year, and that's the that's the piece
that's what's hurt him. Why Jalen Hurts is looking is
and they're not running him, so they're.

Speaker 16 (36:34):
Having to rely on Jalen Hurts to throw the ball.
And when you do that, it's four interceptions and a fumble.

Speaker 7 (36:39):
It's really crazy to have a quarterback. You know what,
that's not my business, it's not. As Dak said after
the loss, Okay, they have to focus on what's in
front of them as we secretly pray on somebody else's downfall.
Christy's brings me to Christie's second question that she left
for us. The player who has exceeded my expectations this
season and can be the key reason the Cowboys stay

(37:01):
in contention is.

Speaker 6 (37:05):
Wait, can you repeat it?

Speaker 7 (37:10):
The player who has exceeded my expectations this season and
can be the key reason the Cowboys stay in contention.

Speaker 8 (37:18):
Is focusing on our side what we can control.

Speaker 7 (37:21):
Who is the player who's exceeded expectations and can be
the reason why the Cowboys.

Speaker 8 (37:26):
Stay in contention.

Speaker 6 (37:27):
That's a good one.

Speaker 8 (37:29):
I know I have me thinking too, because I'm.

Speaker 16 (37:31):
Like, I'm desperately trying to think of somebody on defense
and it's not necessarily coming to me. Uh, that's really tough.
I mean, because the guys that you that are having
a good season, you always expect from that that it's
the expectation because of the resources that you put into it.
Of course you're thinking of Dak and CD. I mean,
I would say George Pickens. I don't think we necessarily

(37:52):
knew he was going to have this big of an impact.
That's a good one on the offense and on the
team as a whole. And you know, the the highs
have been super high and the lows have been super low,
and I don't think necessarily that the lows need to
be quite like that. But he has never had the
spotlight on him like he has now. And when the
Cowboys lose and you're looking at the tape and seeing,

(38:13):
you know, a lack of effort or but it's like
it's those same things that you were seeing in wins
as well. It's just didn't go for the Cowboys way
that time versus this time. So at least for me
now seeing the impact that George Pickens has and like
arguing for it, because it wasn't a question when the
season started about his role with the team. It's CD first.

(38:34):
It's CD's team, and George Pickens is a great weapon
to have. But at a certain point in this season
you've said, like, I don't know who the best wide
receiver is on the field because of how motivating and
intense and lively George Pickens is. But he's just making
the guys around him better. And if there are instances

(38:55):
where he has not performed to that same level, I
think he has the guys around him that are going
to help him get there. I think not only is
he making this team better, but I think the Dallas
Cowboys organization has made him a better player.

Speaker 4 (39:08):
Really.

Speaker 7 (39:09):
I like that, you know, when she wrote this to us,
I was like, okay, and I know defense, You're like,
who can I think of? And there's been some times yes,
But I think if I had to pick, it would
be Kenny Clark because I just feel like he has
been again, There's been some games where like, hey, like
that play, but I think even when he loses a couple,

(39:31):
he gets right back in and I think he's what
has kept this thing afloat until you got Quinnin Williams
to come in here. And even though they lost to
the Lions. I had a defensive coach text me and
he was like, he was like, who was ninety five?
And I'm like, you know, I'm like, I'm like, oh,
that's Kenny Clark. He was like, man, that man was
getting bleep off the ball like every single play. And

(39:54):
I think, like trying to, you know, get into my
film bag this season and like hearing some the conversations,
it's like that position is so hard to get out
of the draft because in college they're taught to just
go after the ball to just penetrate. But when you
come here, and especially in an eber Fluss scheme, you're

(40:14):
asking guys to come off the ball and then react,
and that's two different types of games. And talking about
like a Mossie Smith, why that worked. You asked them
to do two separate things than what he was doing
in college. And I just think Kenny Clark again even
though it was it.

Speaker 8 (40:30):
Was a loss. If you really like sit there.

Speaker 7 (40:31):
And look at the film, He's someone that was standing
out to other coaches in the league.

Speaker 8 (40:36):
To me, and that's a big deal.

Speaker 7 (40:38):
And I just think, not only I know it's cliche,
but I love talking to Kenny Clark after a win
or a loss like he's so he takes accountability, He's
boosting the guy next to him, he's excited.

Speaker 8 (40:47):
It's gotta be a little again for the shine.

Speaker 7 (40:49):
You bring Michael Parsons in and no one's talking about
Kenny Clark at that time, and I think he handled
that situation great. You've been quinnin Williams and out our
shiny new toy like Kenny down and he's still praising
Quentn and talked about how Quinn's coming in making himself better,
is making u OSA already better in those four games
that we've seen all click. I think, you know, this

(41:11):
is a guy you want in your locker room and
up there fighting for you.

Speaker 8 (41:14):
So I'm gonna give it to a Kenny Clark. I
think he is a big part of what this Cowboys
team can do.

Speaker 5 (41:19):
That's such a good point that he kind of gets
overshadowed when we talk about all this other stuff and that,
you know, the defense of the defensive rotation, that interior
has been a big reason why. You know, even last week,
you know they Gibbs, they killed you in the air
with Gibbs, but on the ground, you know, they they
were able to hold Detroit kind of and check in
that sense, except for when Montgomery decided he was just
gonna do what you want to do.

Speaker 6 (41:39):
But the defensive tackle play has gotten better. It's really
the linebackers.

Speaker 5 (41:43):
And we're not gonna so uh to answer your question.

Speaker 6 (41:47):
To answer your question, I'm gonna go offense.

Speaker 5 (41:51):
Okay, it's Rian Flinoy I think has changed.

Speaker 6 (41:55):
First of all, his he was one of the last
guys to make the fifty three. We were incredibly worried.

Speaker 5 (42:01):
I felt like Flinoy making this team was the start
of me taking Brian Schottenheimer and the competition conversation seriously,
because we saw Flinoy work his tail off special teams
in preseason, being a good receiving threat when he was
asked to be. He has really worked himself up the
ranks and he's really earned the opportunity. And that's what

(42:22):
we talk about football being a meritocracy, it being you
gotta earn your spot, and he is the embodiment of
what I think that Shady wants to implement, which.

Speaker 6 (42:31):
Is you gotta compete for your spot.

Speaker 5 (42:33):
And I want to say, in regard to this offense
and moving forward, if they are gonna win games, people
are I mean Ceedee Lamb here in the news about
Ceede Lamb with Shoty is like he's progressing. Well, that's good,
but people are gonna be obligated to take out pickings
are Ceedee Lamb. Jay Ferguson has had some some wonky
stuff going on.

Speaker 6 (42:51):
You need another reliable target Turpin.

Speaker 5 (42:54):
Turpin has had some wonky stuff going on, but Flinoy
to be the number three and to be efficient when
the ball comes to you, you're catching that. I know
he had an interception at the end of the you
know he had the deflection or whatever at the end
of the game. But the efficiency in the fact that
he is available and he's ready to go. He's always ready.
And not only that, the yack ability, the yards have

(43:15):
to catch, the reliability. I think it's very intricate for
this team to have a third receiver that's not only
going to go out there and blocking the run game
bust is tailed on special.

Speaker 6 (43:25):
Teams, but also too, he has been sure.

Speaker 5 (43:27):
Handed for the most part. We only have the one
y'all just let him go. And also too, he's been
short handed and just a reliable target for Dak Prescott.
I feel like he's going to be an important part
next year of which you start offensively.

Speaker 16 (43:38):
And to your point about being competing for that spot, right,
I mean, you consider everything that Dallas put into that pick,
and he's coming from a coaching staff that didn't necessarily
want him. I mean, I don't know if that's arguable,
but Mike McCarthy was not. You know, his coaching staff
is they just weren't using Flinoy. They drafted him and
then whatever things happened to where they were like, our

(44:01):
best bet is with Jalen Tolbert. That is on them,
that's their feeling about it. But for a guy to
ultimately usurp Jalen Tolbert and his role on the team,
while also considering that this team traded for Jonathan Mingo
last season as well because they felt they did that's
enough bodies at wide receiver, So for him to surpass

(44:23):
both of those guys and solidify that number three wide
receiver position and not to mention the additionally like paying
Camante Terpin yeah and expecting yeah.

Speaker 7 (44:34):
Like here's a lot of people that he's faded out,
including a Jalen Brooks that's not here anymore.

Speaker 10 (44:39):
Yes, that was who was.

Speaker 8 (44:41):
I didn't even think about y'all going deep.

Speaker 2 (44:45):
But Ryan Floyd was.

Speaker 16 (44:46):
Cut at one point during this season.

Speaker 8 (44:47):
He was they had to bring him back.

Speaker 5 (44:49):
They had to bring him back, and even in that
that risk because I thought that he was somebody that
you know, again he went to a smaller school, but
you looked at the profile and what he's capable of doing.
I feel like he does a good mix of what
CD Lamb can do, like the again, the speed, the athleticism,
the hands, the yak ability. I just think most teams
don't have a three receiver that can give it to

(45:11):
you and also be consistent. And he if he's becoming
a consistent target for if they.

Speaker 6 (45:17):
Do take out of it, if they are able.

Speaker 5 (45:18):
To navigated pickings, okay, well then if I gotta work
with Illinoy and Lamb, we can still get Jiggy. This
is a threat. He's threatening. That's what I'm saying is like,
you have a three receiver who's threatening, which in past
years you haven't had that really, So I really feel
like the landscape moving forward, especially people watching that tape
from last week, they're like, Okay, yeah, we can bracket,

(45:39):
we can bracket Pickings, we can maybe shut down CD,
but this guy can still get first downs, this guy
can still keep the change moving. How are we going
to allocate resources to shut all those guys down as
too much?

Speaker 8 (45:50):
Yeah, and it's not a fluke. He's done this again.

Speaker 7 (45:52):
Early in the season when CD went down, he had
a nice hundred breakout games. So you can't even call
this last week a breakout game because no, he's consistent.

Speaker 16 (45:58):
Yeah, and that was a game where they schematically said
we're gonna take away ceed Lamb, which they did not
do until he actually was uh, he had the concussion.
He had to go out. But then their plan is like, okay, well,
George Pickens is not catching another ball in this game.
And then flow eight.

Speaker 8 (46:13):
We're big flow fans here.

Speaker 7 (46:14):
Basically I should have I should have ended with this
or ended with that question.

Speaker 8 (46:18):
It's a little more positive, but we're gonna end with
this question. Okay, so real quick.

Speaker 7 (46:21):
The player or position group I was expecting more of
this season has been I feel like.

Speaker 8 (46:28):
I already know who you're gonna pick.

Speaker 6 (46:30):
Huh, we're the player or a.

Speaker 8 (46:31):
Position group you are expecting more out of this season?

Speaker 6 (46:36):
Player or position group.

Speaker 8 (46:38):
Mm, let's see how well I know you.

Speaker 5 (46:39):
I got a thought in my hand, and I think
I'm gonna I'm not gonna go what you think I
was gonna go with.

Speaker 6 (46:44):
I'm gonna say Jada on Blue.

Speaker 5 (46:46):
You didn't okay, Yeah, I'm gonna say Jaed on Blue.
I mean, I'm not sure. I'm not gonna sit up
there and say that I had uberly high expectations for
a fifth round pick or whatever. But I was just
hoping you got something because you need an explosive guy,
like we've gotten to see a little bit of Malik Davis,
but I just expected for him to be more involved
in this offense. And I just feel like, as we

(47:06):
see this run game kind of get to a point
to where it's okay, but it wasn't as dominant as
it was last year. I would have loved to have
another guy be able to, you know, kind of be
the speed option, the receiving option do some of the
stuff that you see them do with Gibbs in the
receiving game in Detroit. That's the probably one of the
most disappointing things in running back position outside of Javonte.

Speaker 16 (47:26):
Low hanging fruit here. But I think you have to
go with linebackers.

Speaker 6 (47:29):
She thought that's where I was going.

Speaker 8 (47:30):
I mean, I'd be dragging them all the time.

Speaker 6 (47:32):
So I figured I ain't gonna do the dragon today.

Speaker 16 (47:34):
No, I mean, there was a lot of expectation, especially
coming out of training camp when and it's just so
hard to evaluate evaluate linebackers. And I've said it NonStop
doing the talking Cowboys, but I just feel like it
is really hard to evaluate that position because they're not
able to tackle fully at practice at camp, so you're
just not necessarily seeing if that is indeed a tackle,

(47:56):
if they're indeed at the right spot. And I think
you saw a lot from from certain guys out there
that you're just simply not seeing. I mean, you traded
for Logan Wilson and he's not getting very many snaps,
and I think that part of that is having to
learn the defense now. But the fact that Flus kind
of is a linebacker coach and then has now changed
the scheme to include five down linemen and two linebackers.

(48:18):
Yet you're still seeing Kenneth Murray out there for a
large predominant role on the defense. To me is not
that it's questionable. I don't know what he's seeing that
I'm not seeing. I'm not a defensive minded coach, so
clearly there's something there that he feels like this is
the best case scenario for what the team currently has
right now. But I think you have an opportunity to

(48:40):
improve on that, and I think consistency will help in
that scenario. And when you're able to bring different guys
or maybe you draft different guys to kind of fill
those roles that are going to modernize your defense, I
think will help. But I don't think a guy like
Kenneth Murray's necessarily the right person for that spot. I
think he's being he's himself out of the position, but

(49:01):
I don't think he's also being set up in the
best scenario right now. But they know more than I do,
so yeah, I think that's where I'm.

Speaker 6 (49:10):
The linebacker floor has killed me.

Speaker 16 (49:12):
And I want to see more mareslefoul and for whatever reason,
that that is not a part of their game plan.
For whatever reason you're.

Speaker 5 (49:18):
Not seeing, they don't trust him, And I know what sucks?

Speaker 16 (49:25):
Why why?

Speaker 5 (49:26):
I just think that Marius at this point is like
even on film and I know we gotta go, but
even on film, Washington in college just this explosive hair
on fire player.

Speaker 6 (49:35):
But I always was like, can he play under control?

Speaker 5 (49:38):
Is he going to be able to get control of
his body and really set into his feet and you know,
be more surehanded when he comes well short short, a
better short tackler and stuff like that, and attack angles better.
And I just think like he hasn't gotten the time.
I agree, he hasn't gotten the consistent time on the
field to take from a veteran learn the position and everything. However,

(49:59):
I do you think the fact that when he's on
the field, he's probably so juiced up that he plays
a little bit out of control is a reason why
maybe they have so.

Speaker 16 (50:07):
He's getting out of position, is what you're saying. Which
that so no other linebackers are doing that.

Speaker 6 (50:13):
Well, no, they're they're all looking they all.

Speaker 5 (50:15):
Look crazy except for Demarion. Most of the time, he
had a couple of times where he kind of got
washed in a couple.

Speaker 6 (50:22):
Of plays this week.

Speaker 5 (50:23):
For the most part, he seems to be reading the
field pretty decently.

Speaker 16 (50:25):
But yeah, Shamar James is still there.

Speaker 2 (50:27):
I don't know.

Speaker 16 (50:27):
I think there's better.

Speaker 8 (50:29):
Sounds like a draft situation that's gonna be talking.

Speaker 6 (50:32):
Is it draft or is it I don't know.

Speaker 7 (50:34):
But they need at least too, And that's what I'm
gonna say about. Oh God, not to I don't care
where you get them, but you need.

Speaker 8 (50:38):
At least at least too.

Speaker 7 (50:40):
I would have been Cavante interfin just because and I'm
not even going outside of what we've seen the last
two weeks with the weird plays on special teams.

Speaker 8 (50:47):
I just think this is a guy who got paid.
He made us the highest.

Speaker 7 (50:50):
Paid special teamers at some point in the off season
talking to him, seeing what he was able to do
last year, thinking they were gonna utilize them more in
different ways, and they went away from it. And I
see why they've tried them, you know, in that running
back scheme type of thing.

Speaker 8 (51:05):
Just I just don't feel like anything has worked consistently.

Speaker 7 (51:08):
You've seen a couple splashes here and there, but nothing
to what I was expecting from come out dator best.

Speaker 16 (51:13):
So when you switch your special teams coordinator from probably
probably the best in the league, I think it's hard
not to expect to drop off there. But I don't
think they're necessarily helping him in coverage or blocking.

Speaker 6 (51:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 16 (51:28):
So uh, Granted he hasn't had the best here, He's
been a lot of there. He's been inconsistent, but I
don't think his hard is not in it. It's just been.

Speaker 6 (51:36):
Yeah, banged up, and he's been banged up.

Speaker 16 (51:38):
I think he misses his old coordinator.

Speaker 8 (51:40):
I think a lot of them do. But that's neither
here nor there.

Speaker 7 (51:42):
