Aldridge and Aisha Morrison.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Ladies, Good morning Tuesday.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
We got we got, y'all.
Speaker 6 (00:50):
You know what, Like Chris has been, he's been converted.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
Like that, but it's only right.
Speaker 7 (00:55):
I feel like it myself.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
I'll heard that early.
Speaker 7 (01:00):
Ready for a game, Sunday game, let's go.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:03):
I definitely get on a regular schedule.
Speaker 6 (01:04):
It definitely feels like they haven't played in forever.
Speaker 7 (01:06):
Huh.
Speaker 6 (01:06):
It definitely feels like they haven't played in forever and
it hasn't been that long.
Speaker 8 (01:09):
I'm not a fan of the Thursday night games. It
messes up my whole routine. I was just talking about Nicole, like,
I like, let's let's get.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
The routine back. Well, we get it back this week. Obviously,
the Cowboys kick off against the New York Giants.
Speaker 9 (01:20):
On Sunday at noon.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
But that was some news yesterday.
Speaker 8 (01:25):
Here she goes, sorry, I gotta get in here she go,
she go, there's sick of my stuff, all right.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
Uh, Perry all Winfrey being.
Speaker 5 (01:31):
Moved to injured reserve obviously kind of putting a little
damper in some depth there at the three tech position. Uh,
you got Osa Solomon Thomas, then you move over to.
Speaker 9 (01:41):
Uh the one type position.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
Kenny Clark, Hello, Jay.
Speaker 5 (01:45):
Thuia, Mozzie Smith, and Mozzie Smith that we're gonna get
to him as well, because he was in active four
week one, former first round pick.
Speaker 9 (01:52):
But ladies, Perry all Winfrey, what does that.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
Do for your defensive line? The impact that that loss
could pick could.
Speaker 8 (01:59):
Make well, coming out of a training camp, I thought
Perry on Winfrey was one of the stronger rotational guys.
So it was when he saw he was inactive week one,
hoping he was gonna get back healthy.
Speaker 7 (02:12):
Hasn't practiced since August thirty first.
Speaker 8 (02:15):
Joe Hoyt from Dallas Morne News reported that day at
practice he was needed help by two Cowboy staff members
to get off the field, but then he was moving around. Okay,
so that's something you thought he would bounce back from.
But the back injury, I mean, that's there wasn't too
many details on what it actually was. But anytime you
hear a back injury, that could be like spasms. I
(02:35):
hate to bring him up, but Michael Parsons had, you know,
back injury, and he had to get that like a
weekly thing, but he worked through it. So I was
hoping to see the same thing from Perry on Winfrey.
But he's gone for at least four games. But first
thing I saw that immediately opens up a roster spot.
So in my mind, do they go add another guy
to get that rotational rep.
Speaker 7 (02:55):
I know you'll talk about Mozzie Smith.
Speaker 8 (02:57):
It kind of feels like he would possibly get the promotion,
But then I'm looking at week one and he was
a healthy scratch.
Speaker 7 (03:03):
So a lot of.
Speaker 8 (03:05):
Questions in that room right now. But definitely lost a
rotational guy who's proven he can stop the run. I
helped stop the run, i should say, and had some
really good more than really good flashes during training camp
in the preseason, and we just talked about how great
his story was, right like, coming from the UFL, having
some off the field issues but working through all that.
So kind of a bummer not to see win free
(03:27):
out there, but hoping that he can get back on
the field after he sits those four games out.
Speaker 7 (03:32):
Yeah, it's a bummer.
Speaker 6 (03:34):
It's a bummer just because of all the work that
he put in in the preseason. I obviously think he's
the most consistent defensive lineman you had through the preseason
outside of James Easton this James Houaston. But yeah, I
mean the defensive tackle room needs depth, and what we
saw last week is that ibra Flus elected to he
had different fronts, he was rotating guys in. I think
(03:56):
having a mixture of guys as something that he wants
and so it's it is a bummer. I'm really curious
to see what happens after because you know you mentioned
you just mentioned the roster spot.
Speaker 7 (04:08):
Hey, somebody else in your division that is doing.
Speaker 6 (04:11):
Stuff doing stuff because they've seen one game and was
like talking about it.
Speaker 7 (04:17):
I don't like that talk about it.
Speaker 6 (04:18):
So if this does open up a roster spot, like
pre said, who gets elevated, who gets or if it.
Does anyone get brought in, you know, does Dallas be
proactive about some of the things that they see and
try to get get ahead of it, or do they
just elevate somebody in house.
Speaker 7 (04:34):
We'll see, But at this point, who is there elevate?
Speaker 6 (04:38):
Like I mean, depending on if you're talking about a
defensive tackle, there really isn't anyone.
Speaker 7 (04:43):
So it is a weird place to be in.
Speaker 6 (04:45):
And I feel for perry On because he put in
so much work during training camp in the preseason for
him to not be able to play for the first
four games.
Speaker 7 (04:52):
We wait.
Speaker 5 (04:53):
Yeah, there's a couple of guys as of this week
actually that we're available. Christian Wilkins, a former Cowboy, Neville Gallimore,
you got Linval Joseph Carl Davis's on this list as well.
But yeah, I mean, we'll see what the Cowboys decided
to do there. But I do want to make sure
we touched on Mozzie Smith because.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
I feel like we have to Mozzie.
Speaker 7 (05:18):
Oh, Mazzi Mozzi.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
You know someone who Brian Schottthheimer mentioned, you know, yesterday
and plenty times before, where he's needed to see a
lot more consistency out of him with him in active
four week one. I'm Jaythya getting a lot of those
reps behind Kenny Clark at the one tech position. Is
there a reason to panic if you're Mozzie Smith.
Speaker 7 (05:44):
I don't think Mozzie Smith panics please the doors, right,
I'm just saying, and it doesn't.
Speaker 8 (05:52):
I think that's the frustration I get added a lot
when I do some Mazzie content Danny training camp, and
I think that's a lot of frustrations coming from social
is just the passion of Mazzie Smith hasn't really been
seen consistently, to Nicole's point, and that's why when I
saw Perry on Winfrey, it seems like Tysha's point, like
(06:14):
who else is there?
Speaker 4 (06:15):
That's who there is.
Speaker 8 (06:17):
So another reporter mentioned they feel like Mazzie Smith is
a guy you break the glass on an emergency, So
does this count as an emergency?
Speaker 7 (06:24):
Possibly.
Speaker 8 (06:26):
It's a little hard to watch the Eagles making all
these moves one injury, even no injuries. They just didn't
like what they saw against us where they won, and
they're making moves already. It's something is the cowboy? Are
the cowboys going to get in that? I don't know,
but I don't know how much you lays get into
the PFF grades, but Mazzie Smith has been one of
(06:47):
the NFL's lowest greatest defensive tackles for two seasons in
a row.
Speaker 7 (06:52):
Last year he.
Speaker 8 (06:53):
Ranked among two twenty interior defensive linemen.
Speaker 7 (06:57):
He was at to eight.
Speaker 8 (06:59):
So when you're talking about frustrations on fans about making
a possible trade, well that stat I just read you.
You also, another team has to want him. That's another
thing there, Christy. I know last week talked about the
money wise, it wasn't just hey, the glossy. He's a
first round pick. We got to keep trying and developing.
It's also costly.
Speaker 7 (07:20):
They'll have to.
Speaker 8 (07:21):
Eat some money there. He's guaranteed thirteen million on this
rookie deal. But yeah, obviously not living up to expectations
as a third year first round pick. You guys, you
have other people like Joe Tooya coming in and it's
showing some more jazz if you will, not necessary to
saying he's better.
Speaker 7 (07:40):
That are showing better than Mazi Smith.
Speaker 8 (07:42):
But it's just that he's hanging with someone who's been
here in this system for going on his third season.
So I don't know Aisha, Do you break the glass?
Is this an emergency? Do you just give the man
a chance? They are going against the Giants. We talked
about how weak. That's probably their weakest point looking at
the Giants film is their own line.
Speaker 7 (08:03):
So is this the confidence? Huh, it's fixed, it's fixed. Listen.
I want.
Speaker 6 (08:17):
I want the I want the best guys on the field.
If the coaches don't feel like he's ready for that,
and they feel like he's not ready for that. As
far as what uh Mazzie should feel like, I would
hope he would want to play. I would hope he
would be ready to play if they call upon him.
I don't necessarily feel like the Giants offensive line requires.
Speaker 7 (08:37):
You to go get somebody like come save us, help out.
Speaker 6 (08:43):
I don't really think I don't feel that way, but yeah,
I mean, just in regard to him being a healthy scratch,
they say what you want to say that, and I
think I'm gonna go back and forth with it all year.
In fairness, is that Brian Schottenheimer and this coaching staff,
they are not gonna put you out there if they
don't feel like you're ready.
Speaker 7 (09:02):
To be out there.
Speaker 6 (09:03):
Because we feel like Jada and Blue is somebody you
could have used last week, and they was like, we
need to see him be more consistent too, And so
I think, you know, obviously these coaches know more than
what we know. And then also too, there's a standard
that's being set, and I'm really curious to see like
how you know we're gonna get into it more like
(09:24):
how that translates through the season if you need guys,
because you could have used Jaydaen Blue last week. However,
these coaches head coach, Hey, they don't believe he's ready.
They want to see more consistency from him. They are
really he earned. It's something that Schottenheimer is continuously saying
(09:45):
he doesn't and he and what they buy him, he
gonna say it, Yep, he don't sugar coat.
Speaker 7 (09:50):
He'd be like, he has to earn it.
Speaker 6 (09:55):
So I'm at a point to where I'm gonna trust
the coaching staff at this point and hope that Masi's
ready if his number gets called.
Speaker 7 (10:02):
And that's all I've got.
Speaker 5 (10:03):
And I want to make sure we're clear on the
word consistency with in terms of what it means from.
Speaker 7 (10:09):
The coaching staff.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
They had mentioned that it's not just about how you
are in terms of your production, but it's how you are,
how you show up every single day. You can't have
no good Wednesday practice, show up Thursday and slack off.
That's what they're saying. You know, you come to meetings,
you prepare, you ask questions. That's what they're expecting out
of those guys. And if you are not doing that,
(10:31):
that means you.
Speaker 9 (10:34):
So yeah, Jayden Blue as well one of those guys.
Speaker 5 (10:37):
But a guy that they did talk about, Brian Schottenheimer
did talk about is Marshawn Kneelan in that press conference.
You know, you know, Aisha, you and Brie, y'all have
had his chance to see you know, Kneelan from last
year to this year, his rookie season, he had some flashes,
but then of course the injury kind of set them
back a little bit.
Speaker 9 (10:55):
But what have y'all seen from him in terms.
Speaker 5 (10:57):
Of his past rush and how it's improved and his
run stopping ability.
Speaker 6 (11:01):
Aishah, well, yeah, one of the highest graded defenders against
the run this past week, Part p pff Man. Listen,
Marshawn nieland I remember watching him in the draft and
being and.
Speaker 7 (11:14):
I said it out loud.
Speaker 6 (11:15):
I said, it's actually sad this year and I said, actually, actually,
and I said, I'm not in the mood to have
to see someone like him twice a year, and because
I felt like he was the type of player that
Philly would pick up and you would have to see
it or someone in the division. One thing about him
is that he is extremely powerful, very violent hands. He
(11:39):
wins on effort and motor and just constant pursuit. However,
I do believe that he is starting to develop more
of an awareness as a pass rusher. Got to talk
to him at training camp about it as well, just
some of the things that he had been working on
to disengage. But and so I think he's still working
the hands. I think he's still working the speed off
(12:00):
the line and not just rushing down the middle of
guys cause he can't do that. He's powerful enough to
just drive guys back and he did that with Lane
Johnson a couple times in the game. So from a
pass rush standpoint, I think he is just learning how
to win off the snap more consistently, and also to
using those violent hands with a purpose and setting himself.
Speaker 7 (12:21):
Up with his pass rush.
Speaker 6 (12:22):
Also too, he's playing off the run this is probably
I think, well, I think when it's all said and done,
this is gonna be one of your your best run
stopping edges.
Speaker 7 (12:31):
That's what he was brought in for. In my opinion.
Speaker 6 (12:33):
I think the pass rush is a plus obviously, but
this is a run stopping edge who is physical y'all
the way he stacks and gets people's hands off of
them and is able to disengage grown man.
Speaker 7 (12:44):
You understand me like grown man, And so I think.
Speaker 6 (12:48):
His his pass rush as it gets better through the year,
you needed to get better through the year at this point,
you needed to get better through the year. But the
run defense is so important and I don't want that
to get overshadowed with the pass rush, and wanted him
to be a pass rusher. If he is a steady
run stopping edge, that is also a good thing for you.
(13:08):
So I'm enjoying seeing him develop. And I was really
hoping after last year we had the knee. He didn't
look hisself all the way last year after he came
back from the knee. Coming back this year seems like
he did some things, went to the lab, and hopefully
he just continues to grow as the season goes on.
Speaker 7 (13:24):
With you gotta grow. Yeah, I mean a lot of
what you just said.
Speaker 8 (13:27):
He's someone I was been excited to see in his
second year. Thinking about Merri Cly if I'm on the
fop of my head, but this player in particular, I
got to sit down when he was a fresh rookie
in training camp, just talking about the vibe, voxnard and
what have you, and he said basically what I usually
just said, Like I came in to, you know, stop
the run, but I want to prove to this coaching
staff at that time talking about Mike Zimmer that I
(13:48):
can be a pass rusher as well, and you're seeing
that now. And I think when you're talking about that
group in general, I think he's one of the stronger
ones I want to see more as much as Marshawn
Neeland as we can get on the field, I think
he makes a great impact with that group overall. And
this is what you're going to need with this team
we've been talking about. Sorry for all the viewers who
(14:10):
are tired of hearing about Michael Parsons, but Michael Parsons
does count for two people, sometimes.
Speaker 7 (14:14):
Three, and so we're back and about people who.
Speaker 8 (14:17):
Have to avoid that now marsha Neland is someone you
want on the field because he I think a lot
of the people that we have right now, they can
do one or the other, and I think that is
the problem.
Speaker 7 (14:26):
Is it fair?
Speaker 6 (14:28):
Do you Lettis think it's fair that we're putting I
mean again, Micah, you know, going to Green Bay was
abrupt to some extent. Do you think it's fair that
we're putting Divan Azaraku as a rookie in a position
to where the expectation is that you need him to
be a viable pass rusher right away? Or do you
(14:48):
think it's fair that we're putting this amount of pressure
on Marshawn k Neeland. I mean again, it's his second year,
so I think it is a little different. But do
you ladies think that it's it's reasonable to try to,
like to try to push these guys to measure up
to the production that Michael Parson had.
Speaker 5 (15:06):
I think I think that it's natural for us to
put that type of expectation on those guys because I mean, you.
Speaker 9 (15:14):
Have to look at what he did here, right, double digit.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
Sackson four of his five seasons, right, So I mean
it's just natural.
Speaker 9 (15:22):
But realistically it's just not gonna happen. It's not gonna happen.
Speaker 5 (15:26):
And I think that the coaching staff, and that's no
shot to you know, Donovan Azarako, he's a rookie, still growing.
He's a great player so far just for being a rookie.
But I mean, I don't even think these the coaching
staff is even putting those expectations on them. I think
that they're trying to find ways to make up for
that production as a whole, which is why you're seeing
all those different personnel groupings. And yeah, I think I
(15:49):
think it's just natural for us to do that, just
because we've had Micah in the building.
Speaker 8 (15:53):
Yeah, and to brief you, go ahead, good well, kind
of feeding off what Nicole just said, I'm thinking about
what Shottenheimer just said last week, going until we go on. Hey,
my model is, go out there, You're gonna make mistakes,
have fun, play the game that you love, and play free.
Speaker 7 (16:05):
The mistakes are gonna come.
Speaker 8 (16:07):
But if I tell you have to, you know, when
he do his little impression, Oh, we're playing me like
I can't even do it. It's too much. But the
mistakes are gonna come. This is a young group and
everyone is talking about Dak Prescott. His age of thirty
two is windows closing. Yeah, but the guys around him
are very young. This is a young team overall.
Speaker 7 (16:26):
Very much. So no, no, no, You're one hundred percent correct.
Speaker 6 (16:29):
And I think as the season goes on, I'm gonna
say this, somebody got to get some respect, like somebody.
Speaker 7 (16:36):
Like You're going to have to.
Speaker 6 (16:38):
This defensive line is going to outside of oh Sodigi
Zoo and Kenny Clark, because who got.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
Your respects so far?
Speaker 7 (16:44):
People who? I think Ny Clark has the entire lot.
That's what I was about to say. I mean, who
has sorry pass rushers?
Speaker 6 (16:55):
Pass rushers right now, James Houston, I say, there's nothing
like you. You're gonna have to like Obviously, the defensive
tackles are drawing double teams. You're not drawing any double
teams outside of that, really, And that's the difference to
your point, Pree, That's the difference is that Michael would
sometimes be getting triple teamed YEP. So if they trying
(17:17):
to help over here, it ain't no different than any
other sport. Like you got a double team, you got
a triple team. Somebody open and I know that I
know that Eraflus and some of these lineups, like you
ladies were talking about. What he is trying to do
is create one on ones because teams are just gonna
double team your guys to death if they can't get
off blocks, if they get pinned inside, if they're not containing.
(17:37):
And so for me, this Edge group has a lot
of growing to do. I think they have the potential
to do so, but it is somebody's gonna have to
step up and really show themselves as like a rusher
that is threatening. So teams have to allocate a tight
end or something out there just to you're trying to
dictate matchups, and I don't know who on the Edge
(18:01):
at this point dictates matchups or dictates a double team,
or are teams having to change around things they're just
doing on the interior, which is great, but I think
somebody's going to have to step up.
Speaker 5 (18:14):
You need somebody like Dante Fowler, which you were expecting
to show up in Week one but really struggled against Philly.
But you need a lot of other guys to step up,
like Jaden Blue. We did briefly mention him in the
first segment, but I do want to take a look
at him in this second segment here on Girls Talk,
Boys Talk, presented by a Visical Line.

Nicole hutcheson alongside Breonna Aldridge and Iiha Morrison ladies. Jaden
Blue was giving everybody the blues throughout training camp in
the preseason.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
But I got a big butt there.
Speaker 9 (21:35):
Not that was it'sn't blues.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
It thet That's all right, it's fine, we got the point.
Speaker 5 (21:40):
But Ron Schoenheimer with some comments yesterday and stating that
you know, obviously Jayden is very talented, but there's a
way that you have to reform and it's sticking to
that culture I issue was talking about and the emphasis
this coaching staff has on showing up every day.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
What did y'all take away.
Speaker 5 (22:01):
From Shaddy's comments and was that kind of like that
tough love.
Speaker 7 (22:04):
Or just a reality check for Jayden Blue.
Speaker 8 (22:06):
He opened up my eyes a little bit. I was
on the Jayden Blue wagon. Just put him in there.
Speaker 7 (22:12):
Why not? Like he's our birthday guy. He brings something different.
We can all agree.
Speaker 8 (22:16):
Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, the two veterans have more
similarities than differences, and I think Jayden Blue is the
sparkly shining toy.
Speaker 7 (22:23):
We just kind of want to see that happens.
Speaker 8 (22:24):
But then I kind of thought about what Schottenheimer said
about him having to earn a spot on the field
and having consistency. Like Nicole said that consistency are things
that people can't see. It's outside of training camp, it's
outside of the games. It's what he's doing on Wednesday practice,
and what he's doing on Thursday practice and Friday practice.
Maybe all those things going to effect that we don't
(22:46):
necessarily see, you know, even the media, we're only allowed
to be on the field at a certain amount of time.
You don't know what's going on in the classroom. Personally,
I think the classroom has a lot to do with it,
because this is someone coming from a system in college
where he he wasn't the one two running back.
Speaker 7 (23:03):
We forget that.
Speaker 8 (23:03):
And there's also a reason why he was taken or
was available in that fifth round he had. He comes
with a couple of struggles as well. Miles Sanders. I
know we're getting on him about that fumble, but that
was an issue for Jaden Blue in college as well.
And then talking about getting involved as a blocker, that
(23:25):
is something if you go back in Texas, that's something
that Jade and Blue wasn't asked to do a ton of.
Speaker 7 (23:29):
That's probably gonna be something he's going to be asked
to do more here.
Speaker 8 (23:33):
So those things start to settle in and I said,
let me take a deep breath, and then do you
want Jayden Blue to go out there against the Eagles
and having to block and things he hasn't really been
asked to do a lot. And I was like, all right,
So I still feel like, I want to see.
Speaker 7 (23:49):
What he can do. I think he deserves that opportunity.
He was injured, so we.
Speaker 8 (23:54):
Didn't see him in those first two preseason games. He
didn't make his debut to the final one too, so
that might have another factor to do with it. But
I'm still on the Jaden Blue wagon. But I understand
where Schottenheimer's coming from, and he seems like a player
who's going to put the work in.
Speaker 6 (24:10):
So yeah, no, I agree with everything that she said
in regard to just him, you know, us not knowing everything,
us not seeing everything that's going on, and you know, uh,
and and them trying to make sure that he's in
a place to where he's ready. But also to I
do think that past protection we mentioned, this special teams,
all that stuff has something to do with it. And
(24:31):
I do also think, like, yeah, that he that that
that little ankle thing he's been dealing with, maybe they
did want to give him a little bit of extra time.
And and I'm not saying that we know that nobody
said anything. I'm gissing to say it was it was.
It was the same ankle, So maybe they're just trying
to give him a little bit more time to rest
that ankle as well. And it's a it's a culmination
(24:53):
of different things, and that's cool with me. I think, uh,
the biggest thing is, and I'm gonna say this, like
going back watching this game, this offensive line has the
potential to be very talented, y'all. And even so looking
within with the Clayton Adams and O'Connor Riley, I mean,
these guys played pretty efficient for the most part. There
(25:14):
were some hiccups even on the Miles Sanders fumble. There
was some hiccups from your left guard spot, you know
what I'm saying. Like, so there's there were missed assignments
and things like that. But this offensive line, specifically this interior,
these athletic tackles. We thought that Tyler Goiden had a
pretty good game, thought that Terrance still had a pretty
good game. This team has the ability to feels like
(25:34):
they're gonna have the ability to run the ball.
Speaker 7 (25:37):
And you can run the ball, but if you got
a guy.
Speaker 6 (25:42):
That can get explosives and take it to the house
and doing things like that, then you it's not only
that you can run the ball, you can back, you
can you really hurt people's feelings when you run the ball.
You can be devastating when you run the ball with
explosive plays.
Speaker 7 (25:55):
We've been on the.
Speaker 6 (25:56):
Other side of that, hello, So for me, So for me,
I'm looking at Dallas has to maximize this offensive line.
If this offensive line is gonna continue, that was our y'all,
that was our first time seeing this offensive line together.
And they can run, block and they can pass block,
(26:18):
bless the Lord.
Speaker 7 (26:19):
And so I want I am.
Speaker 6 (26:21):
I am at a place to where I understand that
we want to make sure that Jaydan Blue is ready
and things like that, but I'm also like, let's let's
try to maximize what this offensive line is right now.
And if this offensive line is good and you got
okay running backs, fine, But if your offense on line
is good and get a running back like an extra one,
(26:43):
then it would make a heck of a difference. So
I'm kind of in between, if that makes sense. I'm
playing offense.
Speaker 8 (26:48):
We heard from Sorry, you heard from Tyler Guyon and
Cooper BB yesterday after practice and just listening to what
they were saying, you can you feel like just being
in their last year this year, there's a different type
of excitement when they're talking about their own group.
Speaker 7 (27:03):
Last year, it was like we have to work on this.
Speaker 14 (27:05):
We have to work on technique and da da da.
Speaker 8 (27:07):
This time, like Cooper BB is like, I have to
give a lot of credit to Clayton Adams and Connor
Riley because this he they just the scheme is so different.
And that's what's the first thing. One of the first
things Cooper BB said. And then Tyler Guyden, who's not
very strong, not strong, he prefers not to do all
the talking, if you will. But one thing I wrote
down from what Tyler Guiton said, he said, it feels
(27:28):
good to run with the running backs this year. That's
something you did not see last year. And they both
had a lot of praise for Javonte Williams. And I'm
just excited to talk about a.
Speaker 7 (27:40):
Run game because I don't like when the national media
is coming for the Cowboys run game every week.
Speaker 6 (27:46):
It was weird coming into this game and I ain't
I ain't hold Joab was losing it before the game
because in my mind I kept hearing some of the
you know, pregame shows and stuff and people was like,
I just don't think the Cowby's gonna be able to
run the ball.
Speaker 8 (27:59):
Told you that you did say that you were staying
on they was going off last year, but they I
guess forget.
Speaker 7 (28:04):
I mean, no, no, And I understand the skepticism.
Speaker 6 (28:07):
My thing is is the coaching staff, like the run
game coordinators that have been brought in, and the Clayton
Adams and a Connor Riley got a track record. Why
do we believe everybody else's track record or toil it's
our own? Why do track records matter except for when
it is your oc These coaches what Connor Ridley was
one of the best, Clayton Adams was one of the
(28:30):
best with the Cardinals, you have them on this roster,
So I don't mean you have them on this team.
Speaker 7 (28:35):
So I was just kind of curious.
Speaker 6 (28:36):
I was like I consistently was excited about now and again,
I understand fans got to see it, like people got
to see it.
Speaker 7 (28:43):
I'm not taking that away from you.
Speaker 6 (28:44):
I'm just saying, how do we go so far left
without any information because we hadn't seen anything to that point.
So I'm just like, I think that to the original point,
I do believe this. To your point, the scheme plays
into what these guys do well that in tiar is
able to be powerful. That interior is able to trap
and do some things and pull, and those tackles are
(29:07):
able to be the athletes that they are.
Speaker 7 (29:10):
Terren Steel and.
Speaker 6 (29:11):
Tyler Guy are not the most powerful tackles. They are not,
but they are very athletic. And getting them out in
space and giving them the opportunity to get upfield and
stuff like that, I think it's gonna play to their benefit.
And I believe these coaches see that, and that's why
we saw that in this game as well.
Speaker 8 (29:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (29:29):
Actually asked Javonte Williams yesterday at Cowboys Hour. Great interview
by the way, he did so cool. He was so nice, cool,
great guy. But no, I asked him, you know, did
your trust in this offensive line? Like how has it
changed since you first got here until now? And he
was like, you know, I've just been impressed with the
way that these young guys played together. But you know,
(29:51):
they all five of them like really put in the
work off the scenes. We don't really see what they
really do. And so that was good to hear from him.
But I want to touch on something that Shotty had
mentioned in the press conference yesterday about the offensive line,
and he had basically said that there's the willingness there
to want to run block and you know a couple
(30:11):
of those runs that Javonte had where he was kind
of carrying five six guys around him, it was that
offensive line that was there helping, and so that was
something that you didn't really necessarily see last year or
really the year before either. So, uh, yeah, this offensive
line has certainly taken a step, but something that you
do obviously want to see as well is more see George,
(30:34):
see a little bit more George Pickens.
Speaker 9 (30:35):
We did not see that in Week one.
Speaker 5 (30:37):
Thoughts on that, ladies, I got two thoughts, I said,
I got, I got two thoughts.
Speaker 6 (30:51):
First thought is Schottenheimber described this offense as a progression offense.
I want you all to know that, y'all was first
the first read is ceedee lamb. And if he's cooking,
this is where the quarterback's gonna go. That is typically
he's a progression quarterback. That's what he has been for
the majority of his career, and so it's there for him.
(31:13):
If it's there for him, he's gonna go there.
Speaker 7 (31:15):
He will. He even said it early in his career.
Speaker 6 (31:17):
If it's not there, not giving you the ball, brother, like,
I'm just not gonna do it. And I think that
that's why we saw so much of Ceedee Lamb. They
went out of Dorry Jackson as they should have, as
they see no offense to Dory.
Speaker 7 (31:29):
I'm sorry, I hated for him. That baby was on
the Giants cooked, that man was on it like, and
then he go to Philly still struggled. So anyway they.
Speaker 6 (31:40):
Saw Dorry Jackson, there clearly was a there clearly was
That's a weakness that they saw and they went at
that last game. I will say my second thought is
there does have to be and they do have to
figure out how to integrate pickings into the offense. But
even at that it it is important that he stays engaged.
(32:02):
It is important that he stays locked in to what
is happening in the game because, unfortunately, watching back some
of that tape, I was like, brother, he was strolling
around and sight seeing and stuff like that on the field.
(32:26):
So there were times where he was disengaged. You could
tell he was not finishing routes. You could tell that the.
Speaker 7 (32:32):
Effort wasn't there.
Speaker 6 (32:33):
We're blocking and these are things that people have talked
about with him before he got a clean slave with me.
So that's my first impression of you in an end
game right now. And also to the penalty, that penalty
was huge. The Cowboys were in first and goal that
turned into first and twenty two something like that.
Speaker 7 (32:52):
Like that that also hurts you.
Speaker 6 (32:54):
So with with George Pickens, I my two thoughts are,
this is the progression offense.
Speaker 7 (32:59):
That's how gonna be. However, figure out how to get
him involved.
Speaker 6 (33:03):
But he also got to stay involved when he's not involved,
because his job is to not his job. But in
some of these plays, him running his route keeps the
defense honest.
Speaker 7 (33:13):
It keeps the defense honest.
Speaker 6 (33:14):
And if they see on film you not running your routes,
that's gonna be a problem in the future. So I want,
I just I hope that this isn't something that is
like a regular thing and he's able to bounce back.
Speaker 7 (33:24):
From uh you know, because yeah, yeah, I hate having
to talk about it.
Speaker 5 (33:30):
How do you balance that though, balance balance the fact
that you need to keep him involved, engaged, and yeah,
I mean how do you balance that also trying to
keep him in this off involved in this offense.
Speaker 6 (33:42):
I mean, I just think you dak is a quarterback
that even can evenly distribute the ball. It's very difficult
because if the matchup is there, if a Dori Jackson
is getting is getting whooped out there, why would I,
you know, start changing course or whatever. But I also
think also too, And I know we've seen it in practice, ladies.
Speaker 7 (34:01):
And I'll ask you, I know we've seen it.
Speaker 6 (34:03):
In practice and pickings and that connecting and stuff like,
do you think they need some in game chemistry?
Speaker 7 (34:08):
Maybe they need some time to trust. I think it's
a trusting too.
Speaker 4 (34:12):
You said there was no trust factor when the postgame.
Speaker 14 (34:15):
But it's gonna say like gonna say I trusted more than.
Speaker 7 (34:22):
It's not gonna help that situation.
Speaker 6 (34:25):
Like when they sit and watch that tape and post
up and eat they snacks and put their feet up
in that film room. It's not gonna help that you
see in number three not finishing routes and the quarterback.
Speaker 7 (34:37):
Say what y'all want to say about the quarterback.
Speaker 6 (34:38):
I know he seemed like a h Well, the quarterback
will cut you out, and the quarterback wants you to
be in your place, so like be in the spot
that you're supposed to be in. Rather so I I
do think there needs to be some in game trust,
and I do think there is gonna be a little
time for them to kind of integrate him into the offense.
Speaker 7 (34:55):
I think you gotta be in to your point in
the code.
Speaker 6 (34:57):
I think you just have to be intentional about it,
in how you set him up and how you're setting
things up for him to be involved.
Speaker 7 (35:04):
I don't know what that looks like.
Speaker 6 (35:06):
Well, baby, you're gonna have to do something, because I
don't want it to become a big deal.
Speaker 8 (35:10):
Because I mean it's telling that Ceedee Lamb thirteen targets,
Pickens four, and then Jake Ferguson has more targets than
Pickens at six. That was the first thing that jumped off.
Now Pickens, he was saying all the right things. The
chemistry's there, but everyone has to remember Pickens has no
contract next year. He is trying to get paid. And
(35:33):
I came up in the press conference, and I'm glad
it did, because essentially that isn't Brian Schottenheimer's job to
think about pickens contract, right, But it is Brian Schottenheimer's
job to get Pickens involved because you knew the type
of receiver you were getting. No shade to him. I'm
very excited to see what Pickens does in this offense.
But there's also a reason why Mike Tomlin was ready
to say goodbye to someone who had.
Speaker 7 (35:54):
A lot of potential. And I think we saw some
of that.
Speaker 8 (35:57):
Ayisha have tested to I saw it too, because I
thought when you're sitting in the press box you see
things differently, and then when you go back and watch,
like you're seeing the people who are getting the targets.
So when you go back and watch, the one player
stood out to me when you're talking about route running
was the miss to Jake Ferguson, because.
Speaker 14 (36:17):
If you look on if you look at the tape,
it was.
Speaker 7 (36:20):
George Pickens doing a half route.
Speaker 8 (36:23):
If you will, as as a receiver, you need to
sell to the defense that you're going to you're going.
Speaker 7 (36:30):
For that ball.
Speaker 14 (36:31):
He gave up so quickly that the safety was able to.
Speaker 8 (36:34):
Jump out to Jake Ferguson, and you saw he had
no chance of catching that ball, a catchable ball. And
I think that's what i YSH was talking about. Those
things matters, and those could have changed the game because
what came next, it got We saw what came next,
and that changed the game.
Speaker 7 (36:51):
It was pivotal. The Sanders fumble doesn't happen if that
ball is caught. That's just the reality.
Speaker 8 (36:56):
So, like you said, the first thing these guys are
doing is going back there watching film, and Dak Prescott
is going to hold all of his receivers accountable because
effort matters. How many y'all been in group projects and
there's one person who's not really holding up in the
new like you don't want them to get hated it.
That's what I'm saying, Like this, this is a effort,
(37:17):
and I think Pickens is going to have to come here,
get humbled it a little bit and do some of
the dirty work. When you're talking about path projection, it
was clear that that's you know, and I saying like
he doesn't want to do it.
Speaker 7 (37:30):
I can't speak for Pickens. He can block, but block.
I see got the tools he can block. Does he
want to maybe.
Speaker 4 (37:38):
Not sat it?
Speaker 6 (37:39):
With my own two eyes, I know he can block
if he wants to blog. But yeah, yeah, you you
you're one correct because even if even let's talk about.
Speaker 7 (37:48):
Next week, you want to get the giants, giants turned.
Speaker 6 (37:51):
On this tape and they see you not finishing routes,
you can't even sell that route because that's another thing too,
it's the game within the game. These route concepts are
setting other route concepts, they're setting up other instances in
the game because Dallas can hit like.
Speaker 7 (38:05):
They could hit CD, hit CD, hit CD.
Speaker 6 (38:07):
But that nine route that that Pickens is running, that
you know you want him to continue to run. If
it's when it's there, I'm gonna hit it. Like sometimes
play callers are setting things up for next weeks or
next games or whatever the case may be, or next drives.
And if you're not selling it, if you're not running it,
not gonna get it. And I think that that and
(38:29):
I wonder if the quarterback scene.
Speaker 7 (38:30):
You have half yeah, half run well.
Speaker 8 (38:32):
Coach shot it yesterday in the press conference he said,
in my opinion, there was one or two instances that
we probably should have went to Pickens. And that set
out too, because then that means you know, that's that's
that's Dak's choice, as he should. I mean, he's been
in the system with CD for six years, like Pickens
has only been here for a short amount of time.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
See.
Speaker 6 (38:53):
But but I do have a question for y'all though,
h with CD, and it's weird and maybe like it's weird.
So with CD in the in the drops that he
was having, would I do wonder, like with the coach,
at what point in time do you say, you know
this he's struggling right now, or like.
Speaker 7 (39:12):
Does that make sense? Because you know, even in basketball,
like I.
Speaker 6 (39:15):
Know, people will like continue to spand players and continue
to give them the ball. You tell Steph Curry keep
taking shots, keep taking shots, even if he's in a low.
But it's like, at one point in time, do you say, baby,
he ain't got it today?
Speaker 4 (39:28):
What was that?
Speaker 5 (39:29):
That's what I feel like he did though on that
final I think it was the final drive they finally
throw the ball on the outside to George Pickens, but
it was before that last.
Speaker 7 (39:37):
Drop that CD had.
Speaker 5 (39:39):
But that's where it also goes back to did shoddy
see you know what I'm saying, the inconsistency with Pickens
throughout the entire game, because yesterday he did like this,
he said, I went.
Speaker 4 (39:52):
To the CD. This was a play call sheet, Pickens
this play call sheet, So it seemed like he had the.
Speaker 5 (39:58):
Intentions of balancing out the play calls between the two
of them.
Speaker 4 (40:03):
But you just never know if he saw in game like, okay, c.
Speaker 5 (40:07):
D struggling, but we're gonna We're gonna just keep going
to him because GP ain't doing.
Speaker 14 (40:10):
It and in a normal day like it was.
Speaker 8 (40:13):
The word uncharacteristic is what was used to describe Ceedee
Lamb's game against Ceede Lamb had seven drops last.
Speaker 7 (40:21):
Season a seventeen game. Well, I think he didn't play
a little bit for one of them. Let's gay seventeen
ish games. Yep, he had four Thursday night.
Speaker 8 (40:30):
I'm not a betting woman. It's against the NFL rules.
By the way, that part finished.
Speaker 4 (40:35):
Better here.
Speaker 8 (40:35):
But if I did, I'm betting on c your dating.
I'm betting on Ceedee Lamb every single time a big moment.
Speaker 7 (40:44):
That's fair.
Speaker 8 (40:45):
I'm not going to Pickens, I'm not going to Tolbert.
You know, that's just the reality.
Speaker 7 (40:50):
I could see.
Speaker 8 (40:51):
I could see CD drop five balls and I'm still
gonna go to him if it's the game winning drive.
Speaker 7 (40:57):
That's just the reality.
Speaker 8 (40:58):
Now, if we're having this commonversation, which I don't think
we are week three, then that's a different conversation. But
I just I just think it's so unlike CD and
I don't even I don't think anyone like hearing guys
have been playing the game retired receivers. You know, some
people are talking about the preseason reps.
Speaker 7 (41:17):
You know if they would have had those, all that
kind of stuff. You know, people have theirs on that
Dak is on.
Speaker 14 (41:25):
So I can't put on Dak. So it's like CD
butter on the hands.
Speaker 8 (41:30):
I don't know what's happening with him, but I just
don't see that being a problem.
Speaker 7 (41:34):
I don't need I don't need that.
Speaker 6 (41:35):
But that's just a it's it's it's a curious thing.
Like maybe it was, like I said, maybe it was
just a matchup to like that's that's kind of how
I feel too, is maybe it was just a matchup.
Speaker 7 (41:45):
Dallas was taken with the defense was.
Speaker 6 (41:47):
Giving them, and the defense was given them, giveing CD a.
Speaker 7 (41:50):
Lot of space. Maybe Pick has had some space.
Speaker 6 (41:54):
CD had a lot a lot of space, lots of
lots of space.
Speaker 14 (41:59):
So that's it's just he still had a great game,
like the stats, Oh he was.
Speaker 7 (42:03):
Yeah, he had a strong game.
Speaker 6 (42:05):
Like it was some of the catches he made earlier
in that game, coming back to the ball, helping out.
Speaker 7 (42:08):
The quarterback helping out the quarterback. Yeah, but it's yeah,
I am.
Speaker 6 (42:13):
I will say I expect for them to be intentional
about trying to figure out how to get Pickings involved early,
like yeah.
Speaker 8 (42:20):
That would be not I think that'll be a difference,
and that that is next week. That is going to
be shoddy job. That is his task going forward because
you have all these different personalities. You brought him in here.
You gave it a their round pick We done hyped
up Pickens to the fullest. So now this is bring
us the playbook.
Speaker 7 (42:41):
Bring us the playbook.
Speaker 5 (42:42):
All right, we got to take our second boys talk,
were back with more conversation.
