and broadcasting live from Dallas Cowboys World headquarters at the Star.
Now your host, Nicole Hutchison.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Good morning, Welcome in to Girls Talk Boys Talk, presented
by invis Line. Here in the s WBC studio we
live baby, bring you the morning. Wake up. We got
Nicole Hutcheson, Brianna Aldridge, Aisham Warrison. Ladies, what's up? What's bobbing?
Speaker 4 (00:49):
Morning? Happy Wednesday? Yeah, great day, little one day close
to the game day.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
What you need? I am executing, Yeah, I'm away. It's fine,
all right, ladies. Cowboys Giants kickoff at noon in at
and T Stadium. Want to breakdown offense. Giants offense, Cowboys defense.
How they kind of match up. And we saw the
Giants struggle in every category. But we're gonna start the
(01:22):
run game. You talk about the Giants only being able
to rush for seventy four yards, their quarterback Russell Wilson
rushing for more yards than their entire running back committee.
But you know what did Washington's front We'll start with
the front, defensive front. What did Washington's front do so
well to kind of bottle up the Giants run game exists? Okay,
(01:43):
I know they didn't.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
They didn't have to do much, to be honest.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Wait, cool, and that's just fact I was.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
I mean, I've watched a little bit and it didn't
really take long to see. I thought it was one
of the stats I thought was pretty interesting. So the
Commanders last season, they typically like their blitz stats is
like a little bit over forty percent. Like if you
look at twenty twenty four in this game, under twenty
(02:10):
seven percent on Wilson's drop back passes and then uh
for forty eight percent. That's how they pressured Wilson. And
that's just what they're front, their regular front for. And
they didn't really have to blitz, they didn't have to
do anything special. But when they did it ate up
Russell Wilson, like ate him up. But the biggest thing
all game is that they were bringing the pressure and
(02:34):
Wilson looked very uncomfortable because he could not hang in
that pot. He had no time in the pocket. It
didn't matter what they threw out him. And we'll get
into it, I know, very here soon. But that O
line is shaky. Like I know, you opened the shows
saying that they struggled everywhere, but the O line is
going to be the death of that team. Giants fans,
(02:57):
let's be thankful for the boys. I know both these
teams are coming in looking for their first win of
the season, but I think walking away from Philly, you
kind of saw from the Cowboys some optimism and it
wasn't like one group was just getting tainted. There was
some things from certain areas and you're like, okay, and
you saw adjustments. The Giants never had adjustments. I think
(03:20):
that Giants really went cold after that second quarter, the
red zone issues. I think they opened their offensive drive
with sixteen plays and they came up with three points,
didn't get a single touchdown. We didn't even know who
a couple days ago who the starting quarterback was going
(03:40):
to be because Russell Wilson struggled so bad. And I'm
not even going to just tank everything on Russell Wilson.
I think there was some things he could avoided to
make things better, but he was literally running for his life.
Most of the game, and I know a lot of
Giants fans want to see dark going there and take
things over. But also I understand the other side. If
you have an old line that's struggling, do you want
(04:02):
to throw in your rooky QB.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Well, I think it's also wanted to make sure we
do point out there they were without their starting tackle
Andrew Thomas.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
I don't know if that would have made a difference,
but that was a factor. And the Giants last year
used the fifth most combinations and offensive line in the NFL,
so that has been a struggle for them. Mm hm
definitely advantage the Cowboys, do you have?
Speaker 4 (04:26):
But are you sure what you guys are?
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (04:27):
No, No, that that's that was That's where I was going,
Is that you know, Andrew Thomas is the best offensive.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Lineman on that on that line, and he.
Speaker 5 (04:35):
Was absent, had a foot injury last year, still trying
to find his way back from that. Also to Lord,
I mean Evan Neil, who is not that great of
a right tackle and hasn't been for a while. He's
been out with the ac joint spring. So they have
really almost a full backup offensive line outside.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
Of outside of their center, uh playing.
Speaker 5 (05:01):
And starting for that offensive line right now, and it
is that there's just no push. There is no I
mean when they was running the ball, y'all, it's just
non existent. And Tracy is a is a pretty good
running back. Got to see his college tape.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
He has some.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
Decent runs in that game. But it's just when you
when your offensive line can't run or pass black Baby,
you gotta pick a struggle. You gotta be able to
do one, and they can't do neither one. So offensively
they are very pigeon held. And I think you make
a great point for you just like it right now
at this point with this offensive line, it don't matter.
It don't matter if they put Jackson Dart back there.
(05:41):
And I even though I do think that some of
Dackson's darts, I think his ability to get the ball
out a little bit quicker would help him.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Right now.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
I think Russell Wilson holds onto the ball a little
too long for my liking at this point in his career.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
It still would be rough.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
And there's not enough on their offensive side like I
think they have like Slayton. We got a lot of
respect for Slaton neighbors We got a lot of respect
for him. It doesn't matter because the quarterback, if he
sit back there too long, is spending and running and hopping.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
So that's really it is. This offensive line is poor, y'all.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
So what is it that they do if they do
anything well in this run game? Do they do anything well,
you shouldn't break it.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
I mean, really, the only thing that I can say
that they do well, quote unquote is that they have
a nice receiving corps.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
They do.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
They have a pretty good receiving corps. We know what
Malik Neighbors is capable of. We know that Darius Slayton
is a guy that's been there for a long time.
Good route runner, has a good feel. He is a
fantastic security blanket Wandelle Robinson. He's kind of their Swiss
Army knife that they get involved, kind of like how
the Cowboys use Cavante Turpin, being able to use him
(06:50):
in the slot, out the backfield, all these things. And
then also to THEO Johnson, they're tied in like they
have a decent receiving court, they just can't use it
when this offensive line is this poor. So it's like
if he does get time to block it, up. I
do think he'll I think, do you think Russell Wilson
will be able to move down the field and get
(07:10):
some efficiency from the offensive side of the ball, But Beabey, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
I guess it's more clear why may Lavers was crashing
out in the first half of Week one by and
it's hard to even really get what they can do because,
I mean, for the Cowboys, Brian Schottenheimer preaches every week
it starts in the trenches. The offensive line for the
Giants gave up thirteen pressures. Eleven of them came from
(07:36):
the interior offensive line. If you want to talk about
the weak spot, I know as a unit obviously they're
not playing on one accord. But if you want to talkbout
the weak spots that in tier line, Greg van Bruton Brotin.
I should know that because he was in Buffalo in
twenty twenty two briefly when I was there. He is
(07:57):
arguably the weakest point. He's also a veteran, which is
kind of surprising that he can't at least be serviceable.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Very slow off the.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
Snap always seemed like a half second behind a lot,
allowed a lot of early inside pressure, and he was
on the ground a lot compared to some of the
other guys. That's never good. That's never good when your
right guard's on the ground. But the guards are definitely
the weakest point of this their center. He's actually John
(08:27):
Michael Schmid. He's actually had a lot of promise coming
out of the draft.
Speaker 5 (08:32):
Absolutely did. It's a unit. Yeah, but it's a unit.
And when the rest of the people, to your point
like this is the rest of the people can't block
around you, but you look a little worse.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
Yeah, what you got they have, they have nothing like
if you compare it to and I'm just thankful for
what we got because.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Honestly, that's that's that's crazy saying that this year.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
Wow, right, that's crazy. Even this unit last year, Like
I mean, Zach Martin hires. What do the Cowboys do?
They go draft Tyler Booker Like they don't mess around.
The Giants have drafted five O linemen in their last
four draft classes. One of them is on the field
Thursday night and the other one wasn't a starter. H
Bo is his last name. He went in there and
(09:15):
I felt he's actually like if you listen to Giants man,
he has like the most promised Why can't I remember
his first name, mister bow At first, he came in
at left tackle for two snaps and they set him up,
Uh not for success.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
That's my Poyler.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
No, No, that's step Chart.
Speaker 6 (09:35):
No.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
His last name Bo, Marcus, Marcus, Marcus bo. The silence,
the silent.
Speaker 7 (09:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Yeah, I'm was like looking like, I know, I'm not
crazy looking at this, now, got it.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
But I was bringing up to the point that they've
drafted five O linemen in the last four years. Two
of them made the field. One of them is the starter.
So they are literally counting on free agency bring in
betteran guys in rotation, and there's no real foundation for
that offensive line. And that is something again why I'm
thankful for the Cowboys because they've been able to hit
(10:09):
the jackpot a couple times when you look at who
are starting all lineman when it comes to draft and
developing guys. Two snaps that both came in and played
the left tackles. We know, like wh Nicole said, the
left tackles out. But when they kind of switched things
up and brought him in the first one, they declared
him as a eligible receiver and it was when they
(10:29):
got to the red zone and Russell Wilson targeted the
offensive tackle overthrew it, and you're just like, why would
you if it's not if it's not working, It's like
they tried to do like a special play trick play
if you will, and it's like they tried to be
a little a little of last year's Detroit Lions and
it went so bad. I'm like, why would you do
(10:50):
that to this kid who's like okay? And then the
second snap he had at left tackle, he was moved
off and got punched a little bit off line of
screen and he ran into his own running back and
it's kind of like a joke on Twitter. I'm just like,
they're just not setting these the young guys up for success.
Speaker 5 (11:07):
I mean, coming into this season with this offensive line,
to me is it was was not setting them up
for six start And honestly, to like, let me say though,
like this is indicative of a lot a lot of
what the NFL is to be honest, you know, like
good offensive line play is a luxury development.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
Hitting on the draft all that stuff.
Speaker 5 (11:28):
So like when you say you grateful for what the
Cowboys have, like that, the Texans were like a word,
It's it's a lot of teams in the NFL that
are going through this exact same thing where they got
a couple of guys that can play and the rest
of the gentlemen on the offensive line struggle and it
really makes things harder. Now running is a guy that
I'm very I am familiar with their left guard.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
He will give you some at all their offensive line.
Speaker 5 (11:54):
He's great at the highest but more than anything, he
will give you some efficiency in the past game. But again,
like I said, the run game, it is a collective effort.
And if these guys aren't moving.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
Nobody off the ball, babe, it's nobody well. And there
was a lot of optimism about Scattabu and I saw
him make a play and he was able to He's
very physical. He had a really good block that allowed
Neighbors to get that really good play down field. I
wonder if that's something I just feel like. I liked
(12:27):
his tape in college. I did do with somebody that
I was like.
Speaker 5 (12:29):
But the problem is that they don't move people off
the ball enough for him to be He's he's somebody
that literally looks for contact.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
He's already being contact. He's being contacted off the line.
Speaker 5 (12:38):
So kind of like, so they need people who can
make people miss in the in the backfield, and that's
not even Tyrone Tracy's game either.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
He's not super like shifty.
Speaker 5 (12:50):
I'm going to uh, you know, yeah, I'm not gonna
just well Tyrone brother, Tyrone my bad. But yeah he's
he's not somebody's gonna make a whole bunch of people
missing the open. Feel he is an efficient running back,
but that's not his game.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
So they don't even have the runner.
Speaker 5 (13:05):
And that's why Wandell Robinson last week was able to
kind of get going because he is kind of shifty
at the backfield, so he can make people miss even
though your offensive line is missing.
Speaker 7 (13:16):
Let me tell you, no, he not. And hopefully we
see some more Turpin this week.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
It would be nice, right, I would be nice.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
Yeah, talking about this interior defensive line where Brie, you
hit it on the nail. You know, their interior on
their offensive line is their weakness. So this could be
some opportunities again for Kenny Clark man, I mean.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
Can't wait to talk to Yeah, we're so excited to
talk about this defense again.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Right, It's great, but no, Also the Yazua Solomon Thomas
obviously backing up osa Ja Thoya getting some more opportunities
because I don't know, Jerry Jones hinted to possibly, uh
Mazzie Smith, you know, going on in actives less again,
but just talk about that interior defensive line. How much
of an advantage do they have coming in?
Speaker 5 (13:59):
Oh well, I mean, well, first of all, after you
go after after you go up against the Philly.
Speaker 7 (14:06):
Offensive line, little drop off, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (14:09):
You might feel like you can conquer the world after that,
especially then. So I mean, I think that this will
be a good game for Dallas, this defensive line to
carry over what they did in the second half of
Thursday's game and continue to do that.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
I felt like the throughout.
Speaker 5 (14:25):
The game, even though the linebackers struggled in the first half,
the defensive line was setting those guys up to be
able to run the alley and to be able to
come in and field gaps. So I do think this
is a good opportunity for Osodigi Zuo, like you talked
about Kenny Clark Jay Toya, for them to settle in
and to be able to stop the run and be
(14:47):
able to gain the opportunity to rush the pastor I
think Dallas could come out of this game with multiple
sax this game. Go ahead, Yeah, go ahead, pat the
stats because yeah, dude, you gotta.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
Do you got to wait. We're taking calls. By the way,
call us beat us if you want to reach us,
because we up eight fifteen am. Please call us ask
some question. All right, eight five five to two nine seven.
I'm gonna say it one more time, just because I
feel like it was a eight eight five five two
(15:22):
two nine seven. Yeah, all right, what you got.
Speaker 7 (15:28):
I agree with a lot of what I used say.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
I mean this is if you look at what they
did against the Eagles, even the not so great first half,
the Cowboys interior against the Giants interior. I like the
matchup for obvious reasons. Uh, Kenny Clark, guys, let's not
let's not forget this man played his entire career nine
(15:53):
seasons Angry Bay, came out here and did some damage
within days of learning the playbook with Dallas. I think
that's why impressed me the most.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
Days.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
Imagine what he can do with the full week preparing
for another team in this system. It's it's something to watch. Obviously,
Osa even Solomon Thomas, oh I did that, he didn't
get enough credit. I went very It was a silent
game for him stat wise, but if you go back
(16:24):
and watch the film, he made a very big impact,
made some big stops in the red zone.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
He his game because of Kenny Clark.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
To me, because what Osa can do, Like everybody's game
just went up a little bit more excited to see
what Solomon Thomas can do in there as well. But no,
the cowboy should eat like you said, this should be
this should be kind of cake. It's there if it's
their home opener, Okay, Like, I don't know what else
you could want. This is like a perfect game to
(16:54):
get going, get out the kinks, work on the mechanics,
all those things.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Oh you want to work on the mechanics. But is
this a game where you can possibly matt Ibra Flues
try some new things defensively? Are you just like, hey,
hold up, let me let me just try to clean
up what we didn't do last week locking this week?
What are you doing?
Speaker 4 (17:11):
I'm on the fence. I don't think that so Eba Flues.
Speaker 5 (17:15):
In the second half of that game, he elected to
uh to blitz a little bit more off the edge.
Uh durn blind Trayvon Diggs and then durn blind again,
so he brought a nickel.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
He brought a nickel blicks and listen, both they were
so y'all, they were so open.
Speaker 5 (17:33):
They were so surprised that Philly, who is the offensive
line that people loving the door and all that stuff,
Philly just let them run free. And I feel like
they got too happy, like did you see? And then
also to setting setting your feet, you know, getting your
body like. I think there's an acclamation period too. But
those are two guys that don't blitz that much, and
(17:53):
I think they was like, I'm just free, Ain't.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
Nobody gonna chit me? And nothing?
Speaker 5 (17:58):
And so they completely with So I say all that
to say, I'm not sure we'll see earlier in this game.
If Dallas feels like they need to coach baby the
way we're talking, they may not need to.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
Washington didn't need to like that.
Speaker 5 (18:11):
So I wonder if Dallas even feels like doing those things.
What I'm looking for for this edge group to get
off to a better start as well, and to and
I understand the difference in playing. I know that Russell
isn't as mobile as he used to be, but he
will run if he needs if he needs to.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
And I really want to.
Speaker 5 (18:30):
See how this edge group and a Fowler and Sam
Williams and those guys, how they are able to rush
contain early to start this game again far better in
the second half of the Philadelphia game. But how they
come out and rush contain is going to be important
to me, and hold their blocks well and get off blocks.
It's going to be important to me to start this game.
(18:51):
So to answer your question, I would be looking for
this defense to do some of the basic stuff that
they didn't do super well at the beginning of this
game and just continue what they do it on the
second half of the game and play with that.
Speaker 4 (19:02):
Urgency that they play with as well.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
All right, there's a lot of I'm sorry to something.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Yeah, I was just gonna agree with you with Russell Wilson, Like, yes,
he's not going to be the Jalen Hurts, He's not
a Jade and Daniels. But he will run. He's actually
running for his life, like literally he he is. He
is abandoning the pocket quite early and he is running.
Ain't no pocket. There's a lot of scre normally is
(19:26):
me I feel like, thank you give the.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
Door y'all send them to the door.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
Oh my goodness, you're sick, so expect a lot of scrambles.
Long story short, not that part.
Speaker 3 (19:36):

Talk about lit? Who's gonna be lit on the sideline?
Speaker 4 (23:19):
Answer?
Speaker 3 (23:20):
Mad Hoving? A cookup against this Giants offense. We talked
run defense for the Cowboys against this run game from
the Giants. Let's break down the Giants passing attack. You
talk about the you know Russell Wilson in the first segment,
Bree good point there with just running for his life,
but he struggled with that offensive line breakdowns in pretty
(23:44):
much everything. Seventeen of thirty seven, one hundred and sixty
eight yards, no touchdowns. Giants were four of sixteen on
third downs and of course failed on multiple red zone trips.
But just what what do you like from this Giants
passing offense? And what are some opportunities that the Cowboys
have that they feel like they could take advantage as.
Speaker 4 (24:06):
They're about to have some fun. That's what was about
to have Mattie Fus. Yeah, that's what he's doing watching film.
Giants were in the red zone for thirteen plays. Well,
they could not score four and sixteen on third down.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
That's like how many points a lot.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
Left on the field. I mean you had some opportunities, right, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (24:23):
They moved the ball down the field in spots in
that game and they just couldn't, which was surprising.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
And despite the offensive line.
Speaker 5 (24:29):
And I don't think if you have don't have a
Russell Wilson, you don't even get that efficiency because he's
able to move outside the pocket and stuff.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
Yeah, I don't. I don't like the Russell Wilson slander
that was happening. I mean I know that. I will
say there was so he was sacked twice. There was one.
I was like, Okay, you probably could avoid that one.
Probably didn't have to take that one. I think the
middle of the field did not exist when you have
a Malik Neighbors. That's tough. But I think everybody can
(24:56):
agree Malik Neighbors is the biggest start on this team.
It's not a secret. Everybody else there was flashes, but
Malik Neighbors got himself open was the thirteen targets for
Malik twelve twelve he come, he was five for twelve
seventy one yards. So when we were let's just again
(25:17):
thankful when we're going back to CD's bad game. Okay,
so that's so bad anymore, you're gonna lose it over there?
Speaker 7 (25:23):
I do? I do?
Speaker 4 (25:24):
You brought up THEO Johnson. I was surprised. I felt
like when he got the ball, he was impactful. If
you will, only got a few targets there, But that's
a six six, two hundred sty five pound guy like
fourth round coming out of Penn State. Three hundred and
thirty one receiving yards ranked as the fifth most by
(25:45):
a rookie tight end that was last season. Surprised that
he not surprised because the O line. But I would
expect if you can get it to one of your
bigger targets, you do. Wandelle Robinson. I didn't see a
lot from him in this game. He's your slot receiver,
go guy on this offense. But if you find a
way to shut down Malik Neighbors, I don't think this
(26:08):
team is doing much. The run game is not going
to improve because of the O line in a matter
of a week. Malik Neighbors is gonna do what he's doing.
He's hungry, but man, that man is fighting for her
his oh like as well, he gets he gets open.
But the window is so it's this much to get
(26:28):
that ball there. And there was even one play he
managed to get it. Russell I don't I don't even
think it was a blitz. I think it just got
to him. So Russell Wilson's throwing the ball as he's
going down and the ball was literally like a lollipop,
and Malik Neighbors still was able to get it. But
it's just bad.
Speaker 5 (26:46):
It just don't look good well, and you know what
makes it worse is that, you know, Mike Kafka system
is a kind of push the ball down the field
vertical route type system.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
They don't got enough time for that. They don't got
enough time.
Speaker 5 (26:59):
To really attack down the field that they want to do. Now,
one thing that they do want to do is set
up the screen game. Like you mentioned THEO. They want
to get their tight ends involved. They want to get
some of their receivers involved. Like we talked about with Wandell.
He's a guy that literally is as of right now,
he might be the most efficient weapon that they have
(27:20):
offensively because of what he does in motion, what he
can do out the backfield, what he can do in
the flats. He's to me right now, just based off
of the fact that they don't have enough time to
throw the ball, I am more concerned with Wandell and
I'm more concerned with him and who's the other gentleman
in THEO more than anything. And I know that, like,
(27:41):
because if Russ can't get the ball downfield, he's going
to try to keep it.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
In the intermediate to short.
Speaker 5 (27:46):
Game, they're trying to they were trying to establish some
and there were times that they were able to establish
some to create some gaps just because of the motions.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Kafka's not going to do a whole whole.
Speaker 5 (27:58):
Bunch, but he does enough to move guys out there,
to move guys off their spot. I think they the
tight ends do have some blocking ability. THEO Johnson that
was his goals when it's calling cards from college.
Speaker 4 (28:09):
So they will get some push from those guys.
Speaker 5 (28:11):
And I think that's what you saw in the game
when they were able to get downfield, they were getting
some help from their tight ends. They're getting some help
from those guys, and Kafka is trying to scheme it up,
but yeah, it's limiting because so much his scheme is
to create mismatches and to really try to exploit downfield,
and you can't do that right now, so they're limited.
So I expect a lot of screen game and them
(28:36):
trying to keep.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
Everything kind of in the intermediate game because that's all
they got time for a quick game.
Speaker 5 (28:40):
Maybe they might go quick game as well. Yeah, a
lot of slants, a lot of quickouts. Cowboys are gonna
have to come up and tackle.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
I believe.
Speaker 5 (28:47):
I think it's gonna be important for them to come
up and tackle early in this game because this is
an offense that, because of how it is, they're gonna
be relying on Yak and they do have guys that
can go get it if they get the chance to
get it.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
So yeah, that's what I was gonna go to is
Corner is gonna have to come back and come and
tackle everybody in the second day. But also the linebackers,
they're gonna have to do some things as well. With
what y'all saw last week, the hesitation in terms of
helping in the run game. Also the hesitation and kind
of helping in the past game as well. Where do
(29:20):
y'all feel like they need to kind of improve against
the giant.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
Chris can you hit the button?
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Stop what it was?
Speaker 7 (29:27):
Hit the button of the car?
Speaker 4 (29:30):
Can you do to wake up God? There you go
like yeah, like we God, that thank you. That's what
the linebackers need to do.
Speaker 5 (29:37):
And I will say again, I'm trying to make sure
that I preface by saying that they this is a
They went up against arguably one of the best offensive
lines in football last week, but the linebackers struggled early
in that game to Number one Murray. This was one
of our first time seeing him. I think he struggled
and coverage. I think some of the decisiveness and this
(29:59):
instincts weren't there where he was kind of waiting for
things to happen, and that's when those blockers were able
to get up on him.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
Samborne, he saw.
Speaker 5 (30:08):
The place, he read the place, and he was missing tackles.
There was like three or four tackles where I was like,
he's right there, he read it. He's just overshooting or
he's not making He's not setting his feet and making
the tackle. And then demon Clark he got lost in
the scrum as well. So for me, I want them
to trust their keys, trust their eyes, and to short
tackle and to and if you see it, to go like,
(30:30):
not to be super like, and not wait.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
You can't wait with these guys.
Speaker 5 (30:34):
Just get up on these guys, go tackle, because the
defensive line is setting them up. The defensive line is
getting double teams, it's doing what they need to do.
These guys just gotta feel and do their part and
do their part help that defensive line out. It ain't
nothing worse, I'm sure as a defensive line. And then
making sure that you hold your gap and then you
waiting for your linebacker to come through, and you just like,
(30:55):
all right, brother, you.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
You gonna You're gonna come through it.
Speaker 5 (30:59):
No, So I'm looking for the linebackers to be more
certain and to come up and short tackle, to just
not let these blockers get up on them.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
They barely can't anyway.
Speaker 5 (31:08):
So and more maris right, we hope, now, ladies, any
info on that, any info on what is going on
with that. I know that he grabbed somebody by the
face mask and was dragging him like a puppy. Early
in the game, But did that play a role in him.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
Not be on the field? What are we talking about here?
I don't feel like Brian Schottenheimer directly addressed that. I
feel like that's kind of like the speculation because from
what we saw in training camp, from what we saw
in the preseason, because he was getting quite a few
reps and that was confusing as well in the preseason.
But Brian Schottenheimer said, kind of similar to what he
said to about the Jaden Blue situation, is that this
(31:48):
has to be earned. So that confused me because I
think we can all agree it felt like from our
standpoint could be earned. So I think that's where the
speculation about. Okay, well he got a little feisty. We
know very much how Schottenheimer was about discipline, and maybe
that may see the early planalty was just like and
kind of thing. So I'm interested to see how it
plays out though in week two. I think that will
(32:09):
be more telling because Brian Shoanheimer isn't really just really
given that one away, if you will.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
So, well, we got a caller, we have two callers.
First caller we're gonna take is Mike out of Jersey. Mike,
what's so what you got for us?
Speaker 11 (32:24):
What's going on, ladies? How a y'all doing this morning?
Speaker 12 (32:27):
Good?
Speaker 3 (32:27):
Are you?
Speaker 11 (32:28):
I am okay. I had a late morning today. Took
kids the daycare about five minutes ago. But yeah, otherwise
pretty good. I mean we got all the energy for me.
We're good.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
Sorry, I know, No, No.
Speaker 11 (32:43):
Don't be sorry. I appreciate it. This is what I
this is what I get up for. We appreciate you.
I think I think you're onto something. I think that
is why we didn't see Marist much in that game.
It's because of that situation. Now, Shoddy has preached playing aggressively.
He wants violence, he wants physicality, but total line, I mean,
(33:07):
don't cross it, and the fact that that line was
crossed probably cost them cost him some playing time. Now,
if you ask me, I think Maris Leophile doing that
was in response to what Jalen Carter did. You know
what I'm saying, that's if you ask me then. But
(33:29):
I think we'll see a lot more of Mares this
week coming. And as far as the defensive line and
the linebackers go, from what I'm seeing, from what I've
seen from that Washington game, I don't think we're gonna
be using a lot of our linebackers as far as
getting pressures this week, because I don't think we need to.
(33:50):
I really don't think we need to. I mean, you
know Andrew Thomas, who would something. Smith's that kid. Yet
there's gonna be a bad time for those guards. I
think it's going to be a real bad time. But
there is something I wanted to expound on. So last
week we saw a lot of CD, a lot of
CD targets. I think I think that was in I
think that was in the design, you know what I'm saying.
(34:12):
So I think this week is going to be more
a lot more George Pickens, a lot more George Pickens,
you know what I'm saying. So it's for George. I
think it's just all about being patient, you know what
I'm saying. I just need him to be a little patient.
But I know last week was probably a little shock
for him because he really wanted to get it going.
But I don't think that was the design.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
That's fair.
Speaker 5 (34:32):
Yeah, I agree, No, yeah, and I think I think,
you know, I do think that. Again, this is our
first time seeing Deck and Pickens play together in real time.
I mean, we had to practice the Rams practice would
us to be real here, it's not the same. So
I do think that there's some confidence and acclamation that
has to be built with those guys as well. So
(34:52):
I agree with you, like I think it's I think
it's awesome that you mentioned being patient, But I do
I do think that they can be intentional with getting
him in involved in how they do that, especially in
a game like this where you should be able to
attack their secondary to again again Yeah.
Speaker 11 (35:07):
Yeah, because I'm going to be honest with you, it's
not looking good. Who's the pulse of the debo? Is
his name? Apparently? Apparently he was pretty good? And where
was he at the Saints? But CD was cooking him
there too when it was Jeff c D. So yeah,
I don't I don't see much coming from this Giants
game as far as as far as complications aside from
(35:30):
their front four. Their front four is not something to
you know, look away from, because that Dex to Lawrence man, like,
let's be honest, like it's Deck to Lawrence. So I mean,
but we shall see. Yeah, I'll just go back to listen.
And I appreciate you, ladies, No, we appreciate thank you.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
So so so much. You did make a good point
of needing to get you know, this could be a
game for GP, and hopefully it is. You know, he
is one confidence up because I mean I don't think
it's down, but you know, just to kind of get
him involved, Like yeah, you mentioned I think that's huge
for him. But we're going to go to our second
column because we got another one. Sorry to zoo in
for it worth which you get.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Hey one ladies, I got doing he out doing well,
doing well. Hey y'all may have touched on this already.
You know, I apologize if I had. But one thing
that you guys did touch on that you know, I
want to I want to chime in on is ebra
Flus and how we're gonna play this week. I do
think that, like I shared the sentiment, I think it
was Ayisha that was basically saying, like, you know, this
(36:30):
is a week for him to He's playing, you know,
a less pfordable opponent, so this is a week for
him to really try to clean up the things that
Cowboys you know, messed up on last week regarding keeping containment,
staying in your rush lanes and things like that. So
that's one thing that I'm looking forward to him doing
maybe he doesn't have to pull out all the blitzes
and the stunts and stuff. He can kind of stick
to the fundamentals and see if we can get that
cleaned up this week. The second thing that I wanted
(36:51):
to talk about was Diggs. I know he only played
I think it was less than like forty five percent
of the snaps and the fact that you know, Hurts
and all those weapons didn't have a dynamic game. To me,
it's just a testament to how well the secondary hold
up held up because the past rush wasn't there in
the first half. So I'm looking forward to him, you know,
being more healthy this week and seeing what they what
(37:12):
they could bring. So, yeah, I appreciate you'all taking my call.
Usually I'm a storyline guy, so I didn't even know
you guys took calls. I gotta start listening a little
bit more and I'll start calling in.
Speaker 11 (37:21):
I appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
I've enjoyed the show so far.
Speaker 5 (37:23):
I've definitely gotta listen. You definitely gotta come through. So
now we appreciate the call.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
Uh yeah, they made some they made some good points.
I just wanted to touch on. I know our first
caller was talking about and you mentioned poll Ball, getting
George George Pickens more involved. Similar to the defense, this
is the time for the offense to try some things.
And the first thing that comes to my mind, Lipky.
We've been talking about getting Lipky and VERSI. That would
be nice to see Cavante terror. I know we mentioned
(37:47):
a little bit of getting him more involved as well,
but yeah, I thought I was going to see a
little more, a little more Lipky. Yeah, and Fergus and
and Fergus.
Speaker 5 (37:55):
Well, that's one thing that coach Schottenheimer said in his
presser is that they didn't get enough opportunities on the
ground Philly was playing. Philly was very aware that the
chair offense was cooking their defense because they played keep away,
which is what's something that they do.
Speaker 4 (38:11):
They do ball control.
Speaker 5 (38:12):
They will hold the ball long, long drives, and that's
what they opted to do. So Dallas didn't even get
a whole bunch of opportunities from there, specifically from the
running back position, like in out the backfield to run
the ball. I think Javonte Williams that had fifteen touches
right like, and then Miles Sanders had a couple like
it wasn't a lot.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
Yeah, it wasn't a lot.
Speaker 5 (38:30):
So that was something that was a sentiment that Shoddy shared,
was like, hey, we didn't even have the ball enough,
so time possession is gonna be important in this game,
so you can get those guys involved, like you was
talking about, it's so funny to me.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
No, it's just it's funny.
Speaker 5 (38:44):
To me because Dallas and you look at that game
offensively and you just walk away like dang, Like there's
so I say all that to say, there's so much
they still got in the tank. There's so much that
they didn't touch on it. It's so many things that
I know they have not even done exactly.
Speaker 4 (39:02):
And I like the second callers point about Trevon Desck's.
Speaker 5 (39:04):
Oh yeah fantastic, No, no, no, fantastic. And the secondary was
the coverage was good on the back end. That was
why you saw Jayleen Jalen Hurts having to escape and
he decided to run number one. They did ebra flues
did do some disguising on the back end sometimes or
he just or Jalen just didn't like what he saw
and you didn't see them, you you didn't see him. Uh,
(39:26):
oh my bad. Yeah, oh my bad. Sorry I lost
trade th No, but yeah, like that's why Jalen was escaping,
because Ebra Flues was knocking him off his first read
and making them second guess. I was surprised they didn't
go at Elon as much as I thought they would, though.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
I think Tyvon just because his injury.
Speaker 4 (39:45):
I think they're gonna continue.
Speaker 5 (39:46):
I think teams are going to moving forward test Elne
because if you gotta pick you, probably I thought that
they would try Trayvon a little bit more, but after
a while, after seeing him out there for a little bit,
a quarterback can.
Speaker 4 (39:58):
Be like, oh he he could still break on the ball.
I ain't got to do all of that.
Speaker 5 (40:02):
So I'm really curious that who they decide to test
from the secondary.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (40:09):
I do think that they're gonna probably try to test Elam.
If you have to pick one of the two, you know,
Trayvon he didn't worked on you years at this point,
and then Darn Bland has as well.
Speaker 4 (40:19):
So if you're gonna pick one, you probably gonna pick
Elam though.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
Yeah, and Elam. Actually, I think the one target that
they did one of that was a long view. There
was a long one forty plus your reception to her Dawson. Yeah,
that was the that was the big play. But other
than that, the secondary did cover well.
Speaker 5 (40:35):
Like I Usul mentioned, but four targets, four targets between
A J.
Speaker 4 (40:39):
Brown and A J.
Speaker 5 (40:41):
Brown and Devonte Smith, they shut them down. They'm only
putting up twenty four points is insane. And one thing
I will say, and I'm not trying to take away
from the secondary, I'm just saying that I do think
that that Hemmy and that growing was bothering uh those
wide receivers for Philly a little bit more than what
was talked about, because those guys were not when you
look at them in the game, when you look at
(41:01):
the film, they're not.
Speaker 4 (41:03):
They at half speed almost, So.
Speaker 5 (41:05):
I do think that, like that's something to factor in.
But yeah, the Dallas secondary cover well for Georgia the game.
Speaker 3 (41:11):
We're gonna take our second break here on Girls Talk,
Boys Talk. Oh next, we have a fun game.

is an unforgettable phone call. We have lesser in Minnesota.
What you guy for us? Lester?
Speaker 12 (44:04):
Good morning, ladies, Good morning. I'm a storyline caller as well,
but I just wanted to make a comment on the
running game. I really appreciate, uh the new coach being
committed to the run because I believe that running the
ball is the foundation of of football in my opinion.
(44:28):
I played in high school, so I understand the concepts
or anything of everything because I mean, because then now
Dak can do play action paths.
Speaker 11 (44:37):
And we got two.
Speaker 12 (44:39):
Really good receivers out there, and Chickens and CD and
and and then the rest of them, but those two
are the main two, so we can do the play
action path and I just think we are on our way.
And I love to play at the offensive line. I
watched them and they play really really well. I like that,
(45:01):
And and the defensive line performed as well, pretty good as well.
I'm in the offensive and defensive line type of guy
and running guy. I mean so, but that's all I got. Ladies,
Go Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (45:15):
Go Cowboys. Thank you Lester out of Minnesota. Ladies, what
do y'all feel like this Cowboys run game can rank
against them amongst the rest of the league. I do
like what he mentioned giving the run game a shout
out a little bit, So yeah, let's talk about that
a little bit. Now.
Speaker 5 (45:31):
Potential, well, I think I think the potential lies in
obviously Javonte Williams maybe obviously getting more touches. If he's
gonna be like that dude and that dude, that dude,
that dude, then he gets more. We're gonna wait and
see what happens with Jayden Blue because I do believe
that they will be a good like one to one
two type of punch. I think that they kind of
(45:52):
balances each other out. But I do think you need
some explosives.
Speaker 4 (45:56):
Not and Harry.
Speaker 5 (45:57):
I'm not trying to be mean to mind Sanders because
I don't think the I always have had.
Speaker 4 (46:01):
I mean, that was one of the longest runs I've
seen in MC.
Speaker 5 (46:03):
Ever, so I want to say, like, don't want to
just completely discount what he was able to do in
that regard, but with this offensive line in the run
scheme and adding in like you know, turp and touches,
CD touches, all that stuff. I do think that the
run game can be efficient and explosive when.
Speaker 4 (46:22):
It needs to be. I just it just needs to
be consistent in a sense.
Speaker 5 (46:25):
It doesn't have to be mcflashy, because the passing game
is where you're gonna butter your bread for real, but
it just needs to be supplemental to what you want
to do offensively. We'll see what they do with the
running back position and how it shapes up as the
year goes on.
Speaker 4 (46:41):
What you got, ladies, agreed with a lot of what
you said. Brian Schoanheimer said it himself. Javontay Williams is
a clear running back. One that's obvious. Fifteen carries he
got in week one. I expect that number to go up.
My only thing is he's not the guy who's going
to get those explosives.
Speaker 5 (47:00):
No, he's not gonna run away from nobody. That's not
what it is. He's he's your yards after catch.
Speaker 4 (47:04):
He's gonna push Bbie says, he's the guy that's gonna
get you four every time. He's gonna move the chains.
But the bursty guy that is who we believe what
we saw in Oxnard, what we got to see glimpse
in the preseason, that is going to be Jaden Bloom.
And we talked about a little bit about learning the playbook,
(47:25):
learning the blocking scheme, a little bit things he wasn't
having to do in college. It takes time and even
though you want it to snap like that, it's not
so understandable why he didn't go against the super Bowl
champs in week one, the Giants. I mean, there's a
drop off. This would be to me a reason, a
(47:46):
way to get him out there, get him acclimated. Maybe
he doesn't start, but you know, get him into the rotation.
I think he deserves that. Again, there's stuff that's being
seen at practice. Schottenheimers also said he needs to earn it,
So we're assuming that's being watched at practice. How he
earns it.
Speaker 3 (48:04):
Did he earn it this week?
Speaker 4 (48:05):
You would hope.
Speaker 11 (48:06):
So.
Speaker 4 (48:06):
I know Christy made the point about the special teams
and areas, and that's kind of why, you know, if
Illinois was elevated and what have you. But I think
at this point you find a way, there is a
way that you can get Blue out on the field.
Speaker 3 (48:19):
Well, it'll be fun to see if he's out on
the field on Sunday at noon against the Giants. We're
gonna be talking about the offense Cowboys offense against Giants
defense tomorrow, that is Thursday. Make sure to wake up
with your girl at eight am here on Girls Tar
Boys Talk presented by in Busy Line for Breonna Aldridge,
Ayushan Morrison. I'm Nicole Hudgerson. We'll see y'all tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (48:42):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
